Community In The Deaf Community
The Deaf community is comprised of people of a variety of ethnicities and backgrounds, as Deafness
prevails around the world; discriminating against none. The Deaf community grows continually. As a
hearing person learning about the community, it s distinctive culture and how to communicate in ASL,
I am developing myself and discovering my fairly new position within the Deaf community. Firstly, I
feel that the community itself is important in learning societal expectations and background
knowledge. For this, I feel I am beginning to understand the true nature of the community, and why it
is the way it is. For instance, the Deaf community is collective, unlike the hearing community, which
is individualistic. While I understand this as a fact, it is difficult to adjust and truly understand this
idea and the implications it may hold. In addition, I have noticed a sort of hierarchy within the Deaf
community, wherein certain members tend to be cherished to a higher degree, despite Deaf people
generally not bothering to hold a candle to one another s careers, economic ranking, etc. to determine
ranking. I feel that these cherished members are strong leaders and advocates in the Deaf community.
Hearing members of the community do not appear to have much in the way of ranking instead, they
use their position to voice Deaf people s positions, and point the media towards Deaf members of the
community. As well, there are Social Behaviour topics within the Deaf community. While the

shocking, but at the same time hilarious. I think it was meant for Adam to get stuck in New York just
so he could see Mia one more time. Yes, the author achieve her purpose, this writing was powerful and

Describe The Importance Of Electrolytes
Electrolytes are very important to have in the human body. It is very unhealthy to have an imbalance
of electrolytes. Electrolyte imbalance may lead to disease or even death. ( Nate Morrow )
Salt is a very important electrolyte. Humans need salt to survive on the planet of Earth. Salt can also
be called sodium. Low sodium levels are very dangerous. People with diseases are at higher risk of a
low sodium level.Another important electrolyte is magnesium. Magnesium is important for 300
biochemical reactions! Also an important electrolyte is phosphate. Phosphate strengthens bones and
teeth. Bicarbonate is also one of the major electrolytes. Kidneys release bicarbonate when acids build
up through metabolic processes. Also, potassium is a key electrolyte. Potassium is important for
regulating your heartbeat and muscle function. ( U.S National Library of Medicine ) It is also
important to keep your electrolytes balanced. Electrolyte loss is very dangerous. Water does not
replenish the electrolytes lost in sweat. Most sports drinks claim to replenish electrolytes lost in sweat.
Although, not all beverages are made to hydrate, so be aware on which sports drink you choose next.
Hydration is also crucial to live a healthy life. Dehydration can cause electrolyte imbalance.
Electrolyte imbalance symptoms include twitching, weakness, and seizures. ( Healthline )
It is also important to have a healthy amount of salt in your body. Salt imbalances can lead to heart
disease. Eat healthy to

How Did Manchuria Occur
World War II In 1919, at the end of the Great War, the Big Four; the US, Great Britain, France, and
Italy, were trying to figure out where to lay the blame. Great Britain and France wanted Germany to
take all of the blame, which in turn would make it a very weak nation. The United States on the other
hand did not want to blame anyone. The US, Great Britain, and France came up with the Treaty of
Versailles. The United States came up with the League of Nations, but Britain and France were able to
lay all of the blame on Germany, crippling them beyond repair, or so they thought. Since Germany
took all the blame they felt the need for revenge, thus starting the territorial take over in 1936. World
War II began when countries decided to start invading other. The US managed to stay out of the war

On September 18, 1931, eight years before the war began, Japan invaded Manchuria. China at the
time was fighting a civil war; which made Manchuria the ideal expansion ( World War II: Timeline. ).

We Grow Accustomed to the Dark...
We grow accustomed to the dark... Darkness is a recurring image in literature that evokes a universal
unknown, yet is often entrenched in many meanings. A master poet, Emily Dickinson employs
darkness as a metaphor many times throughout her poetry. In We grow accustomed to the dark (#428)
she talks of the newness that awaits when we fit our Vision to the Dark. As enigmatic and shrouded in
mystery as the dark she explores, Dickinson s poetry seems our only door to understanding the
recluse. As she wrote to her friend T.W. Higginson on April 15, 1862, the Mind is so near itself it
cannot see, distinctly (Letters 253). In this musing, she acquiesces to a notion that man remains locked
in an internal struggle with himself. This inner ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, the poem has fluidity despite its apparent scarcity of rhyme. After examining the alteration
of syllables in each line, a pattern is revealed in this poem concerning darkness. The first nine lines
alternate between 8 and 6 syllables. These lines are concerned, as any narrative is, with exposition.
These lines set up darkness as an internal conflict to come. The conflict intensifies in lines 10 and 11
as we are bombarded by an explosion of 8 syllables in each line. These lines present the conflict
within one s own mind at its most desperate. After this climax, the syllables in the last nine lines
resolve the conflict presented. In these lines, Dickinson presents us with an archetypal figure that is
faced with a conflict: the bravest hero. These lines present the resolution in lines that alternate
between 6 and 7 syllables. Just as the syllables decrease, the falling action presents us with a final
insight. This insight discusses how darkness is an insurmountable entity that, like the hero, we must
face to continue straight through Life (line 20). The next seemingly arbitrary decision is Dickinson s
capitalization. The capitalization at the beginning of the sentence must be capitalized; therefore, we ll
focus on the capitalizations that lie within each sentence. In this poem, each of these words is a noun.
Past this simple reading, what may we deduce from these capitalizations? Each stanza presents a
different set of capitalized objects

dealing with issues all females face at a point in their lives, such as self esteem issues, gender
oppression, and rebellion. She faces the struggle of who she wants to be versus living in the reality of
whom she actually is. In various points of the reading, she often finds herself drifting off into her
thoughts with the wishes of being someone she isn t, with references to movie stars , and one of those

Comparing The Three People s Principles And The Future Of...
Sun Yat sen wrote The Three People s Principles and the Future of the Chinese People in 1906 while
China was ruled by a monarch. During the Qing dynasty, the monarch controlled much of the lives of
the Chinese people. This caused many hardships for the population. If China wanted to progress and
grow as a nation, the monarch needed to be defeated. Sun Yat sen worked to improve the lives of the
Chinese people by bettering their government through nationalism, democracy, and people s
livelihood. Yat sen used nationalism as one of his main driving forces to start a revolution. He states
that the people of the Han are a lost nation because they are being discriminated by their monarchial
leaders. By uniting together, the Han should be able to

Haitian Culture Vs American Culture
Strength lies in differences, not in similarities Stephen R Covery. Living in two different countries is
an experience that is likely to open anyone mind. One raised in a smaller country, then moved to a
larger country mixed with multiple culture is an experience not to be taking for granted. Full of
hardships. Yet, despite lacking in the modern luxuries that are readily available in the United States,
they also live a vibrant life full of flavorful food, music, dance, ritual and celebration. There are many

Konpa is a more towards the romantic sides of things where as rap is more about wealth and what the

To conclude I ve been blessed to experience two different countries, although it wasn t easy I ve

similarities as well. Underneath all of our cultural differences, the same heart still beats. Food must be

And Of Clay Are We Created Summary
Omar N. Bradley, a senior officer of the United States Army once stated, Ours is a world of nuclear
giants and ethical infants. We know more about war that we know about peace, more about killing that
we know about living. In other words, our world understands warfare more than harmony. Having
ethical responsibility can contribute a major part in increasing peace around us. In the short story, And
of Clay Are We Created the author, Isabelle Allende described the way Rolf Carle s act of ethical
responsibility effected a little girl s death in a way that she could die in peace instead of frustration and
fear, knowing that an effort was made to live again, but it was in her fate to move on. Ethical
responsibility, according to www.smallbusiness.chron.com , can be defined as the duty to follow a
morally correct path. In your personal life, you might feel the greatest sense of ethical responsibility to

In the narrative, And of Clay Are We Created , Isabelle Allende writes on page 4, The reporter, on the

that although it may have been none of Rolf Carle s business to help the little girl named Azucena, it
was his ethical responsibility, therefore he would attempt to save her life. This is important to note
because if Rolf Carle ignored Azucena, she would have died faster, and in complete distress thinking
there was a slight chance she could have been saved. To sum up, Carle s assistance affected someone s
life positively without Carle harming himself. It is almost never disadvantageous to help

I had never had a run in with any of my managers previously, but did not feel particular close to one
manager. His style was cold and to flat out tell you what to do while picking favorites with some of
the employees who had been at the location for a while. One particular day, the store was mobbed and
I was trying to keep up with folding clothes and telling customers about the deals available at the
moment. One of my co workers came over to me and said that my manager said he was going to run
me over and that I needed to hurry up in what I was doing. He felt that I was moving slow and not
getting enough of my tasks done according to his standards. The manager never said anything directly
to me and I never approached him or my co worker about it after the incident. After it happened, I
became very uncomfortable and insecure in my quality of work. I felt that when I came into work, I

which is sad because I enjoyed working there and loved the clothing.

teens in a negative manner and as a result people who are watching this will think that most teenagers

the younger kid. This makes viewers feel that if teens aren t the best they will use violence to solve

The Dragon Can T Dance Essay
In the novel The Dragon Can t Dance by Earl Lovelace, the character Aldrick faced obstacles in order
to find his purpose, self identity, and guidance. Aldrick journey started to become misleading and even
problematic due to his overwhelming uncertainties. It is very difficult to fulfill one s goal if mixed
emotions and the inability to choose one s opposing choices intervene. Considering these
circumstances, I believe that it is fair to say that Lovelace included many examples that revealed
Aldrick to be an ambivalent character.

On March 19, 2003 a war was waged under public scrutiny, to destroy the Baathist regime headed by
the Iraqi leader, Saddam Hussein. This pivotal point in United States history marked the beginning of
public concern about political corruption within our government as a means to convey personal

With presidential insight overlooking Iraq s government with a fine tooth comb, the Bush
Administration decided to turn to public support as a means to increase the awareness in Iraq. This
attention was based off the defiance amongst Iraq, and the United Nation (UN) ability to provide full
access inside the country of Iraq. As public concern grew on the topic of Iraq, so did the presidential
tone and manner when comparing Iraq to the central front in the War on Terror. This began a political
push from leaders in and outside the U.S. to implement harsher penalties on Iraq or any country that
didn t obey UN weapons inspections (resolution 1441). The resolution 1441 stated that if UN
inspection was ever detoured from leaders in the country would be subjected to war. Another country
siding with the Bush administration to dissimulate and destroy the Baathist regime in Iraq was Britain
and its Prime Minister Tony Blair.
After the invasion of Iraq occurred, documents that were obtained from Mr. Blair s office that depicted

Major General Sherman Outline
On November 15, 1864, Major General William T. Sherman received direct orders from president
Abraham Lincoln to a very rare but devastating tactic. Lincoln ordered General Sherman to march his
troops from Atlanta, Georgia to Savannah, Georgia. The total distance the army covered was nearly
400 miles from city to city. The trek was long and difficult for the soldiers but was even worse for any
family who lived in their path. The purpose of this march was to destroy Confederate supply lines and
split the South in two halves. General Sherman used the tactic which earned the name scorched earth
due to the harsh methods used. Anywhere the 60,000 man army traveled, they destroyed and burned
any obstacle that they encountered, whether it be travelers, families, or even entire towns. Lincoln
knew this would strike terror into the Confederate side and decrease their population by thousands.
The total fatality count is undetermined because of the mass slaughtering and burning. ... Show more

The men continued on to Macon and Augusta, still with ammunition and guns in hand. When ordered
by their general, the troops listened. Money was scarce and men were not payed highly. However, any
small amount of payment they could receive was enough for them.Once done ravaging a settlement,
the soldiers were told to take anything that they may need later on in the march. Men carried meat,
guns, clothing, ammunition, but destroyed wagons and homes. Sherman s soldiers could survive at
first because the men had knowledge of how to live off of the land. Before Sherman s march to the
sea, Georgia was relatively untouched by the war and suffered very little. These attacks came as a
shock to the population and many families were in awe. The Confederate forces were taking a blow

My Work Ethic, Commitment For The Job And Facility, And My...
I will share my work ethic, commitment to the job and facility, and my values. This includes: being
accountable to the job, showing up on time with a positive attitude, willingly take on tasks and
assignments, being proud of our facility and that we are a part of it, treating everyone with respect and
in a friendly manner, focusing on work and leaving personal issues outside the workplace, and seeing
my work as an opportunity for continuous personal growth and lifelong learning. There is a concept
called The Self Fulfilling Prophecy which states that people generally will perform in the way others
expect them to perform. So, if I have high expectations for staff, I will treat them as if they are
capable, competent people and I will expect them to function as such. However, if I micromanage
them, this means I think they cannot function well on their own. This is not the behavior I want. I will
have high expectations for staff and treat them accordingly. I will give credit for successes to coaches,
and take responsibility when things do not go well. As the athletic director it is my job to make sure
staff is well trained, capable, and competent. If for some reason they fail to perform their job in the
expected manner, it is my responsibility to insure that they receive further direction and training so
they will perform up to standards. I can help improve the knowledge and teaching skill level of
coaches by making staff evaluations a positive experience. One

The Energy Bar Industry Essay
Energy Bar Overview The energy bar market grew from a grass roots effort focused on the consumer
base of performance athletes. These athletes usually obtained products at competitive events that were
geared towards the everyday consumer. The build up of this market is attributed to PowerBar, but
there was significant contribution from others.
PowerBar and the Market
PowerBar began as a company seeking to create a performance enhancing food that marathoners
could consume during an energy draining race. Initially, the product was marketed and distributed at
bike shops and events where running and biking were the competition medium. As this new category
began to expand, new entrants began to enter the market. These new entrants began ... Show more

However, this limited view allowed them to miss the concept of creating bars focused on women.
Their close competitor, Clif Bar, built a solid brand for itself. However, Clif Bar recognized that the
market was heavily focused on males and was missing the opportunity to bring women into category.
Clif Bar had major success with the launch of Luna Bar. Luna Bar saw that women were not being
properly targeted and marketed. Luna positioned itself as being created by women for women to
address their needs. Luna s recognized that women have interest driven by several needs and interests.
These needs and interest will directly influence their purchasing behaviors. Balance Bar paired its
approach to go hand in hand with the Zone Diet. The Zone Diet focused on reduced carbohydrates by
balancing them with protein and unsaturated fats. Balance Bar focused more on the fact that
consumers were interested in more than energy from carbohydrates, but more of a balanced approach
to nutrients. MetRx, which greatly influenced the sports protein bar market, became popular with
members of the bodybuilding industry and then with consumers outside of that industry. MetRx
helped drive the market for protein bars. In addition, MetRx marketed the awareness for the need of
high protein supplementation for weekend athletes in addition to current market of

A Study Of A Patient Who Experienced Chest Pain Essay
Introduction 100 WORDS A systematized and precise assessment is a vital tool for a clinician to
identify not only patients who are in unpredictable life threatening situations but also to recognize the
initial signs of patient s deterioration. (Tough, 2004) In order to accomplish a systematic and detailed
assessment, a sound clinical judgment and a strong, clinical based decision making by the clinician
should be done. (Croskerry, 2009) This will aid in formulating a pertinent diagnosis, which is the key
in devising a safe and effective treatment plan for the patient. (Croskerry, 2009) This essay is a case

that would be based on a complete medical history, a systematic physical assessment, and the
utilization of three significant diagnostic tests to rule out other diagnoses. Word Count 141 Presenting

Evaluating Hamlet s Relevance
Evaluation In order for a text to be relevant it must be: easily accessible; have an influential, universal
theme; and the characters and message need to be relatable to modern society. I believe that while the
criteria is no one hundred percent true for Hamlet, he is still relevant to read. While the characters are
outdated in modern society, the theme is universal and applicable today. Finally, all of his work can be
found online for free. For a work to be relevant today, it must first be easily accessible. If a work is not
easily accessible, then it causes disparities in who can and cannot read it. Relevance relies on the fact
that the text applies to modern times, however, if not everyone has access to the material in order to

When people can relate to the characters and message of a text, then they are able to learn from it.
When neither of these two things are applicable to their lives it makes it nearly impossible for people
to internalize them making there no point in reading the text in the first place. Frankly, the
backgrounds of the characters in Hamlet are not very relatable. All of these characters are based off of
the Third Book of the Historia Danica of Saxo Grammaticus. The book conveys the aspect of life of
medieval life, specifically Denmark. It s hard modern day people to imagine what it s like living in a
time where there are not any cars, no Whole Foods, let alone any electricity. However, one of the main
things that people can assimilate with are the social classes discussed throughout the novel. Both now
and one thousand years ago there were social classes, that certain people fell into. While the majority
of Hamlet depicts life of the rich around a castle, there are still aspects that appeal to all social classes.
These social classes allow people to draw parallels between the play and aspects of their lives. This
further allows people to better relate to the characters. While the characters of Hamlet at first glance
may not be the easiest people to compare a modern person s life to, the message of the play is very
visible and

Allowing someone to choose when to die, in the face of intolerable pain, is seen by South Australian
Voluntary Euthanasia Society (SAVES) as the most dignified and compassionate remedy to end
suffering (South Australian Voluntary Euthanasia Society 1995). Therefore, present legislation
allowing patients to refuse treatment does not help them to die with any dignity. 5.2 Life Support
The cost of healthcare has risen dramatically and shows every sign of continuing to do so (Australian
Psychological Society n.d.). The Australian Psychological Society claim that for many, the improper
use of life support systems to temporary lengthen life, without any improvement in the quality of life,
can be used as a good argument for euthanasia (Australian Psychological Society n.d.). Medical policy
and hospital practice means decisions are already being made about who qualifies for life support.
This implies an already covert practice of euthanasia (Chaney 2001). Therefore, some form of
legalisation would acknowledge an already existing practice and extend the decision making to the
patient also.
5.3 Public Opinion
Recent studies and polls in Australia seem to show support from both professionals and the general
public for individuals to have the right to choose between euthanasia as an alternative to a life of
suffering (What is euthanasia? 2006, para 8). If it is supposed that legislation should represent the
views of the public, then

Jamaica is known for its jerked chicken, clear waters, and more notably for Reggae, which makes
Jamaican culture globally recognized. However, despite its mainstream entertainment value of today,
reggae is not only music; however it is a way of life for some Jamaicans. It originated as a political
form of protest against the colonial forces operative in the social context of Jamaican life. Musical
ambassadors like the Abyssinians, Burning Spear, Sir Jimmy Cliff, Bob Marley, Peter Tosh, Bunny

Artists would essentially hit two birds with one stone. The first bird was the ability to simply perform
their music. However the second bird isn t as simple as the first, it is the meaning. The second was the
protest against the Babylon system and oppression. To the Rastafari, the Babylon system is any and all
oppressive and unequal practices in Jamaica. Babylon began to surface throughout reggae music.
Reggae lyrics are suggestive of the reggae protest songs. Bob Marley is a great example of capturing
his strong negative views of Babylon. Reggae protest songs proved to be a force with power, both
socially and politically. Ironically the Jamaican government would use reggae as a vehicle to promote
its views (King, xiv).
Reggae never lost and will never lose its association with music and the Rastafari culture. It remains a
revolutionary form of explanatory art. Music never remains stagnate, it will always evolve. Roots
reggae; a sub genre of Reggae, was dominant in Jamaica in the cohort of 1975 1980. Roots reggae
tackles the life of a ghetto sufferer and discusses truths and rights (Barrow and Dalton, 129).
Dancehall and the incorporation of hip hop rhythms was the new addition of reggae. Dancehall

Generation Gaps in Flannery s A Good Man is Hard to Find
The use of symbolism that emphasizes a major gap between the two generations, as well as religion,
theme, and imagery along with an intriguing story plot make Flannery s A Good Man is hard to Find
one of America s classic short stories. Imagery is widely used in O Connor s story, which makes the
characters and surroundings seem lifelike. In the depiction of the grandmother the reader can visual
see the woman sitting in the car waiting on the others to arrive. Her collar and cuffs were white
organdy trimmed with lace and at her neckline she had penned a purple spray of violets containing a

They both agreed that a good man is hard to find. The children and the ways of the grandmother
symbolized the division between the generations in the story. The children, June Star and John Wesley,
represent a new generation of unruly and disrespectful people. On the other hand, the grandmother
represents the strong, southern heritage and stubborn godly beliefs. The two conflict when they
discuss going to Tennessee rather than go to Florida, which is what the grandmother wants to do. June
Star, who can read the grandmother like a book, remarks after John Wesley told his grandmother to
stay at home if she did not want to go to Florida, She wouldn t stay at home for a million bucks.
Afraid she d miss something. She has to go everywhere we go. This is a prime example of the loss of
respect the children had for the grandmother. The grandmother does nothing but reply, Alright, Miss.
The generation gap creates a stir, but the outcome of the two coinciding might be positive. Religion is
a crucial point of the story. Coming to the end of the story, The Misfit and the grandmother are alone
together talking. The Misfit s responses to the grandmother s prayers advice reveal that these two
individuals are on two very different levels with concern to religion. The Misfit has a much deeper
understanding of religion and his belief system than does the grandmother. As the two continue in
conversion, the Misfit asks the grandmother if it seems right that Jesus was

Intellectual Humility And The Education World
Intellectual Humility in the Education World Every teacher has their own bias. The people who write
state standards and state tests also have biases. Students are biased on what they think they need to pay
attention to in class. Teachers, state governments and students each believe that they know what is
most important in their separate fields. None of these groups like to be told that they are teaching,
writing, or learning wrong. However, it is still necessary for people to remain open to criticism
because criticism may lead to an improvement down the road. But each group needs another group to
be able to call them out on these issues. This is called staying humble. Intellectual humility is
admitting to not knowing everything in a field of interest but still being willing to accept criticism in
order to further knowledge of a subject and become more capable of doing a job better than before.
Intellectual humility is combination of two things: common sense and critical thinking. Common
sense is a characteristic that people sneer at. Speaking from experience, humans are prone to not
listening to advice and doing what they think it is the best option. When peers and teachers start listing
off x, y, and z reasons for why what they are doing is a bad idea, people without common sense will
refuse to listen. Common sense requires us to look at the big picture and think carefully through all the
possible options and go with the option that is most reasonable. This

The Health Care System Of The United States As A Whole Essay
The primary focus of this article was to inform its readers of the multiple aspects of the health care
system in the United States as a whole. Within this article, the subjects of health care that are reviewed
are a) the US government s position as the insurer for roughly 60 percent of the healthcare spending in
the US via the public sector, b) the analysis of the funding for government health care programs such
as Medicare, Medicall, and Medicaid and c) the programs in place for the health care of children and
program administration for war veterans. The author discusses health care policy being at the forefront
of world economics and modern medical science as it sets in motion governing policies and procedure
associated with the financial funding and pharmaceutical appropriation of health care insurance. In the
article, Totic presents the notion of health policy in the US and abroad as an irrefutable necessity as
well as for health policies to be simple and in many ways effective when it came to proper execution
of health procedures and proper distribution of both health information and other resources used in the

this in terms of fairness in sentencing?
Judges allocation of outcomes is constrained by a diversity of factors; race has no weight on
sentencing. What is taken into consideration is the severity of the crime and the individual s criminal

sentencing procedure in that given jurisdiction.
When considering procedures for sentencing, it is important to know that the outset that sentencing is

Why Did Tacitus Praise The Barbarians In The Germania
Tacitus wrote the Germania as history of the past defeated Germanic tribe the Gaul s. His book begins
with a description of Germanic tribe s customs, religious beliefs, geography and laws of the more well
known Germanic tribes. Tacitus then describes some of the individual Germanic tribes that live close
to the Roman Empire which most information was known about. Then Tacitus talks about the
unknown tribes far away from the Roman Empire and describes them as being part animals, with
horse hooves. Tacitus praises the barbarian tribes and frowns upon certain aspects of Roman life.
Tacitus at times shows his favor to the behaviors of the barbarians in some of their moral practices
such as chastity. Tacitus says Very rare for so numerous a population is adultery, the punishment for
which is prompt, and in the husband s power. Having cut off the hair of the adulteress and stripped her
naked, he expels her from the house in the presence of her kinsfolk, and then flogs her through the
whole village. (19) Tacitus also gives his highest praises to the Germanic tribes for their monogamy
and being satisfied with only one wife. Marriage gave husband and wife an ... Show more content on

They tend to do drink and eat in excess, and was not a frowned upon thing, like in Roman society it
was frowned upon to be gluttonous. Tacitus goes on talking about how the barbarians view hospitality
saying that They treated all people as guests with the utmost hospitality, as rebuking any person in
need was a crime to them. Tacitus goes into that once the recourses from one party are exhausted
without invitation goes to the next house so that the party can continue. They often even give gifts to
their guests, to whom they may not even know, and they feel no obligation to get a return for the gifts
that they give out. No one distinguishes between an acquaintance and a stranger, as regards the rights

National Security Requires a Clear Acknowledgement of the...
Introduction
To succeed, we must face the world as it is (Obama, 2010, p.1). Globalization has resulted in
interconnecting the world in such a manner that was unimaginable even two decades ago. No longer
can any state, nation, or people expect to remain an island. Indeed, as we are interconnected, so too are
our fates. If the United States is to ensure security and prosperity for her citizens now and for future
generations, we must clearly acknowledge that part we play in the continuum of shifting word powers
and peace. We must recognize that although we are the world s leading power, we are not the sole
possessor and arbiter of influence.
The nuclear arms race of the Cold War years has given way to a race for building alliances in this age
of globalization. If we are to be successful in our pursuit of a more peaceful and sustainable world
order, we must be cognizant of the opportunities to help fledgeling democracies take root. As well, we
must be aware of the more nefarious motives of nations for whom state intervention is merely a thin
veil for imperialistic ambitions. With this, we consider the recent events in Ukraine and its impact on
our national security.
Brief History of Ukraine
An independent country embroiled in civil war, Ukraine fell prey to attack from Soviet forces in 1921.
The acquisition of the eastern two thirds of the state by Russia was considered crucial...to the
formation of the Soviet Union (Conant, 2014). Over the next two decades,

Imagery In The Help
Don t you ever wish you could change things? (10). In Jackson, Mississippi during the 1960 s, woman
ahead of her time, Miss Skeeter, proposes an idea to write a book about the lives of colored maids in
Jackson. Aibileen and Minny, two maids, are among the first ones to agree to help Skeeter, despite the
potential danger to themselves. In The Help, Kathryn Stockett creates an engaging and immersive
world that explores racism and social injustice by using well developed writing, the ideal amount of
imagery, and strong characters.
Often times authors, especially new authors, make the mistake of crafting paragraphs that don t flow,
are hard to understand, or don t make sense. In The Help, well developed writing is used often and
well. Early ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In writing, an author should be mindful of what they are trying to accomplish with what they are
describing. Stockett is able to accomplish this when she uses imagery thoughtfully. In the lounge, the
air seems to still. Husbands drinking their whiskeys stop in mid sip, spotting this pink thing at the
door. It takes a second for the image to register. They stare, but don t see, not yet. But as it turns real
real skin, real cleavage, perhaps not so real blond hair their faces slowly light up. They all seem to be
thinking the same thing Finally... But then, feeling the fingernails of their wives, also starring, digging
into their arms, their foreheads wrinkle. Their eyes hint remorse, as marriages are scorned (she never
lets me do anything fun), youth is remembered (why didn t I go to California that summer?), first
loves are recalled (Roxanne . . .). All of this happens in a span of about five seconds and then it is over
and they are left just staring (321). Imagery provides a way for a character and conflict to develop.
Also, since imagery provides a way for the reader to immerse themselves in a story, it is considered a
defining part of what makes a good

Narcissism In The 1800s
Narcissism falls along the axis of what psychologists call personality disorders, one group that
includes antisocial, dependent, histrionic, avoidant and borderline personalities. But by most
measures, narcissism is one of the worst, if only because the narcissists themselves are so clueless
(Jeffery Kluger). Narcissists have high self esteem both on the inside and the outside. They are more
in love with themselves than anything else. Many people are so sure that they are narcissistic, but
narcissism is more than high self esteem and loving oneself more than anything; many people also
fear having a personality disorder because of how mentally ill people were treated in the 1800s.
Two of the traits of narcissism are the person disregards ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Mystic rituals include things like exorcism and prayer. Due to a misunderstanding of the biological
underpinnings of mental illness, signs of mood disorders, schizophrenia, and other mental woes have
been viewed as signs of demonic possession in some cultures (everydayhealth.com/). Cultures thought
that performing exorcisms would relieve individuals and their families and communities of the
suffering these individuals caused because of their mental illness. The Hebrews believed that all
illness was inflicted upon humans by God as punishment for committing sin, and even demons that
were thought to cause some illnesses were contributed to God s wrath...along the same spiritual lines,
ancient persians attributed illness to demons and believed that good health could be achieved through
proper precautions to prevent and protect one from diseases (studentpluse.com). Trephination is
believed to have started some 7,000 years ago. Basically trephination, also called trepanation,
involved opening a hole in the skull using an auger, bore, one even a saw (everydayhealth.com). No
diagnostic manual exists from that time. Experts guess that this procedure to remove a small section of
skull might have been aimed at relieving headaches, mental illness, or presumed demonic possession

The Sauron of Santo Domingo
The many references by Junot Diaz to J.R.R. Tolkien s universe in The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar
Wao prove to be more than just an allusion to the fantastical works. The recurring comparisons of the
Trujillato to the power of Sauron are more than just metaphors. They are descriptions. Diaz uses his
references to describe people and situations, in real life, that have no other way of being described.
The first direct quote of Oscar de Leon is, What more sci fi than Santo Domingo? What more fantasy
than the Antilles? (6). Diaz gives direct meaning to this statement through Yunior s knowledge and
love of the speculative genre, which he picked up from Oscar, and parallels the world we live in with
the fantastical world of Middle Earth, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although Shelob lives in Sauron s domain, he does not have any direct control over her. Also, just as
Shelob never hesitates to prey on both man and orc, so too La Fea cheated everyone she did business
with, including her brother (139). Diaz uses the allusion to explain even what the sister of Trujillo
thinks, knowing that Shelob does not like to kill her prey right away, instead stinging them and leaving
them paralyzed before she actually kills them. This method is used against Beli as well; when La Fea
orders her orcs to capture Beli, she is beaten to the brink of death, but not killed. The perfection and
detail of Diaz s allusion goes much deeper than a simple metaphor, and actually defines who this
character is.
When Tolkien originally wrote The Lord of the Rings, he did so as reference to World War II, which
was ongoing at the time. For him, Sauron was a representation of Hitler; the gaze of His Eye, the
spread of industrialization and destruction from the war. For Diaz, Sauron is Trujillo, the gaze of His
Eye, the domination he exerted, as well as the anonymity of his secret police. It was one thing for Diaz
to make the comparison of Trujillo to Sauron, but he now affirms his argument by adding figurative
subtext to it. Diaz writes that Trujillo s beloved Morgul Lords [were the

Montresor Capital Punishment
In the short story The Cask of Amontillado by Edgar Allen Poe, Montresor murderers Fortunato by
leading him into the catacombs after getting him drunk one night. Montresor takes Fortunato down
into a small room, chains him up, then builds a wall where he suffocates. Although Montresor
murdered Fortunato, Montresor should not be sentenced to death. Capital punishment is the penalty of
being put to death after committing a crime. In this way, capital punishment can be incredibly cruel to
the criminal. In the article Capital Punishment in the United States by Robert W. Taylor, Professor of
Criminology and Public Affairs, adds, Many people oppose the death penalty because they believe it is
cruel. Just like others who commit crimes, Montresor would have to face death penalty. In the other
article, 5 Arguments For And Against The Death Penalty by FlameHorse, agrees that capital
punishment can be ineffective, painful, and slow which could make the death penalty crueler than the
actual crime committed. That can mean that if Montresor were sentenced to death then he could face a
much crueler death than he caused ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Dr. FlameHorse, from the second article, also argues, It is strange that a nation would denounce the
practice of murder by committing the very same act. By doing so, we re essentially championing the
right to life by taking it from other. It can be hypocritical because the death penalty is intended to
teach people not to kill people. So why should Montresor be killed just because he committed a crime,
if the purpose of the death penalty is to teach people not to commit crimes? Also in an article put
together by Arbiter s staff titled The way we see it: Capital Punishment irresponsible, hypocritical
emphasises that people are given the basic human rights from the government and that taking them
away would be hypocritical. Montresor has his rights and if the government takes his rights then it

Competitive Tactic Of Walmart
WALMART
The ultimate way to define itself in a competitive market, a corporation must have a competitive tactic
to survive. A competitive tactic is a tool that the firm can use to compete with rivals and succeed
eventually. Examples of competitive tactics are price leaders, product differentiation, price and
differentiation focus, timing tactics, and market location tactics (Mitchell, n.d.). Today this essay will
analyze the competitive tactic of Wal Mart Stores Inc., the retail giant of America. Furthermore, a
SWOT analysis will be performed on the company to understand its internal and external
environment, and finally a new competitive tactic that it should attempt will be formulated.
Wal Mart Stores Inc., created by the business tycoon Sam Walton, is a giant corporation providing
retail services to the American population. From hypermarkets, to regular grocery stores, Wal Mart
has been able to open its doors to even the remotest location in USA. With many competitors lagging
behind such as Target, Alders, Kmart, and Costco, Wal Mart has been able to maintain the lead in the
retail market. As a matter of fact, as a competitive tactic, Wal Mart focuses on maintaining lower
prices with their motto being Everyday Low Prices .
Wal Mart has been able to maintain a price leadership strategy due to the vastness of the corporation.
It is said that within a 15 miles range, there must be a Wal Mart for almost every customer in USA
(Walmart, n.d.). With around 4,700 stores in USA alone, it has been able to become the routine
shopping place of numerous households. Since the very beginning, Wal Mart adopted the low price
leadership strategy and gradually started making profit based on the volume of sales (Hyde R., n.d.).
From tires to electronics, Wal Mart Supercenters are premises selling almost everything and in great
varieties. After having been able to capture a vast number of customers and leading as a retailer with
suppliers relying on Wal Mart for more than 20% of their sale, it started leveraging its bargaining
power against suppliers and pressuring them to keep lowering their prices. They are reputed in
minimizing overhead and cost, especially when it comes to employees wages and utilities (Hyde R.,

  • 2. Community In The Deaf Community The Deaf community is comprised of people of a variety of ethnicities and backgrounds, as Deafness prevails around the world; discriminating against none. The Deaf community grows continually. As a hearing person learning about the community, it s distinctive culture and how to communicate in ASL, I am developing myself and discovering my fairly new position within the Deaf community. Firstly, I feel that the community itself is important in learning societal expectations and background knowledge. For this, I feel I am beginning to understand the true nature of the community, and why it is the way it is. For instance, the Deaf community is collective, unlike the hearing community, which is individualistic. While I understand this as a fact, it is difficult to adjust and truly understand this idea and the implications it may hold. In addition, I have noticed a sort of hierarchy within the Deaf community, wherein certain members tend to be cherished to a higher degree, despite Deaf people generally not bothering to hold a candle to one another s careers, economic ranking, etc. to determine ranking. I feel that these cherished members are strong leaders and advocates in the Deaf community. Hearing members of the community do not appear to have much in the way of ranking instead, they use their position to voice Deaf people s positions, and point the media towards Deaf members of the community. As well, there are Social Behaviour topics within the Deaf community. While the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I think how it was set up for them to meet up again was shocking, but at the same time hilarious. I think it was meant for Adam to get stuck in New York just so he could see Mia one more time. Yes, the author achieve her purpose, this writing was powerful and interesting, the strengths are that it had alot of sequences and amusing details and events, I can t say this book has any weakness. • 6. How Did Manchuria Occur World War II In 1919, at the end of the Great War, the Big Four; the US, Great Britain, France, and Italy, were trying to figure out where to lay the blame. Great Britain and France wanted Germany to take all of the blame, which in turn would make it a very weak nation. The United States on the other hand did not want to blame anyone. The US, Great Britain, and France came up with the Treaty of Versailles. The United States came up with the League of Nations, but Britain and France were able to lay all of the blame on Germany, crippling them beyond repair, or so they thought. Since Germany took all the blame they felt the need for revenge, thus starting the territorial take over in 1936. World War II began when countries decided to start invading other. • 7. We Grow Accustomed to the Dark... We grow accustomed to the dark... Darkness is a recurring image in literature that evokes a universal unknown, yet is often entrenched in many meanings. A master poet, Emily Dickinson employs darkness as a metaphor many times throughout her poetry. In We grow accustomed to the dark (#428) she talks of the newness that awaits when we fit our Vision to the Dark. As enigmatic and shrouded in mystery as the dark she explores, Dickinson s poetry seems our only door to understanding the recluse. As she wrote to her friend T.W. Higginson on April 15, 1862, the Mind is so near itself it cannot see, distinctly (Letters 253). In this musing, she acquiesces to a notion that man remains locked in an internal struggle with himself. This inner ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, the poem has fluidity despite its apparent scarcity of rhyme. After examining the alteration of syllables in each line, a pattern is revealed in this poem concerning darkness. The first nine lines alternate between 8 and 6 syllables. These lines are concerned, as any narrative is, with exposition. These lines set up darkness as an internal conflict to come. The conflict intensifies in lines 10 and 11 as we are bombarded by an explosion of 8 syllables in each line. These lines present the conflict within one s own mind at its most desperate. After this climax, the syllables in the last nine lines resolve the conflict presented. In these lines, Dickinson presents us with an archetypal figure that is faced with a conflict: the bravest hero. These lines present the resolution in lines that alternate between 6 and 7 syllables. Just as the syllables decrease, the falling action presents us with a final insight. This insight discusses how darkness is an insurmountable entity that, like the hero, we must face to continue straight through Life (line 20). The next seemingly arbitrary decision is Dickinson s capitalization. The capitalization at the beginning of the sentence must be capitalized; therefore, we ll focus on the capitalizations that lie within each sentence. In this poem, each of these words is a noun. Past this simple reading, what may we deduce from these capitalizations? Each stanza presents a different set of capitalized objects ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

We know more about war that we know about peace, more about killing that we know about living. In other words, our world understands warfare more than harmony. Having ethical responsibility can contribute a major part in increasing peace around us. In the short story, And of Clay Are We Created the author, Isabelle Allende described the way Rolf Carle s act of ethical responsibility effected a little girl s death in a way that she could die in peace instead of frustration and fear, knowing that an effort was made to live again, but it was in her fate to move on. This is important to note because if Rolf Carle ignored Azucena, she would have died faster, and in complete distress thinking there was a slight chance she could have been saved. Considering these circumstances, I believe that it is fair to say that Lovelace included many examples that revealed Aldrick to be an ambivalent character. With presidential insight overlooking Iraq s government with a fine tooth comb, the Bush Administration decided to turn to public support as a means to increase the awareness in Iraq. This attention was based off the defiance amongst Iraq, and the United Nation (UN) ability to provide full access inside the country of Iraq. As public concern grew on the topic of Iraq, so did the presidential tone and manner when comparing Iraq to the central front in the War on Terror. This began a political push from leaders in and outside the U.S. to implement harsher penalties on Iraq or any country that didn t obey UN weapons inspections (resolution 1441). The resolution 1441 stated that if UN inspection was ever detoured from leaders in the country would be subjected to war. Another country siding with the Bush administration to dissimulate and destroy the Baathist regime in Iraq was Britain and its Prime Minister Tony Blair. After the invasion of Iraq occurred, documents that were obtained from Mr. Blair s office that depicted President Bush already mind set on invading Iraq. • 21. Major General Sherman Outline On November 15, 1864, Major General William T. Sherman received direct orders from president Abraham Lincoln to a very rare but devastating tactic. Lincoln ordered General Sherman to march his troops from Atlanta, Georgia to Savannah, Georgia. The total distance the army covered was nearly 400 miles from city to city. The trek was long and difficult for the soldiers but was even worse for any family who lived in their path. The purpose of this march was to destroy Confederate supply lines and split the South in two halves. General Sherman used the tactic which earned the name scorched earth due to the harsh methods used. Anywhere the 60,000 man army traveled, they destroyed and burned any obstacle that they encountered, whether it be travelers, families, or even entire towns. Lincoln knew this would strike terror into the Confederate side and decrease their population by thousands. The total fatality count is undetermined because of the mass slaughtering and burning. ... I believe that while the criteria is no one hundred percent true for Hamlet, he is still relevant to read. While the characters are outdated in modern society, the theme is universal and applicable today. Finally, all of his work can be found online for free. For a work to be relevant today, it must first be easily accessible. If a work is not easily accessible, then it causes disparities in who can and cannot read it. It s hard modern day people to imagine what it s like living in a time where there are not any cars, no Whole Foods, let alone any electricity. Both now and one thousand years ago there were social classes, that certain people fell into. Allowing someone to choose when to die, in the face of intolerable pain, is seen by South Australian Voluntary Euthanasia Society (SAVES) as the most dignified and compassionate remedy to end suffering (South Australian Voluntary Euthanasia Society 1995). Therefore, present legislation allowing patients to refuse treatment does not help them to die with any dignity. 5.2 Life Support The cost of healthcare has risen dramatically and shows every sign of continuing to do so (Australian Psychological Society n.d.). The Australian Psychological Society claim that for many, the improper use of life support systems to temporary lengthen life, without any improvement in the quality of life, can be used as a good argument for euthanasia (Australian Psychological Society n.d.). Medical policy and hospital practice means decisions are already being made about who qualifies for life support. This implies an already covert practice of euthanasia (Chaney 2001). Therefore, some form of legalisation would acknowledge an already existing practice and extend the decision making to the patient also. 5.3 Public Opinion Recent studies and polls in Australia seem to show support from both professionals and the general public for individuals to have the right to choose between euthanasia as an alternative to a life of suffering (What is euthanasia? 2006, para 8). The people who write state standards and state tests also have biases. Students are biased on what they think they need to pay attention to in class. Teachers, state governments and students each believe that they know what is most important in their separate fields. None of these groups like to be told that they are teaching, writing, or learning wrong. However, it is still necessary for people to remain open to criticism because criticism may lead to an improvement down the road. But each group needs another group to be able to call them out on these issues. This is called staying humble. Intellectual humility is admitting to not knowing everything in a field of interest but still being willing to accept criticism in order to further knowledge of a subject and become more capable of doing a job better than before. Intellectual humility is combination of two things: common sense and critical thinking. Common sense is a characteristic that people sneer at. Speaking from experience, humans are prone to not listening to advice and doing what they think it is the best option. When peers and teachers start listing off x, y, and z reasons for why what they are doing is a bad idea, people without common sense will refuse to listen. Common sense requires us to look at the big picture and think carefully through all the possible options and go with the option that is most reasonable. This ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

His book begins with a description of Germanic tribe s customs, religious beliefs, geography and laws of the more well known Germanic tribes. Tacitus then describes some of the individual Germanic tribes that live close to the Roman Empire which most information was known about. • 47. National Security Requires a Clear Acknowledgement of the... Introduction To succeed, we must face the world as it is (Obama, 2010, p.1). Globalization has resulted in interconnecting the world in such a manner that was unimaginable even two decades ago. No longer can any state, nation, or people expect to remain an island. Indeed, as we are interconnected, so too are our fates. If the United States is to ensure security and prosperity for her citizens now and for future generations, we must clearly acknowledge that part we play in the continuum of shifting word powers and peace. We must recognize that although we are the world s leading power, we are not the sole possessor and arbiter of influence. The nuclear arms race of the Cold War years has given way to a race for building alliances in this age of globalization. If we are to be successful in our pursuit of a more peaceful and sustainable world order, we must be cognizant of the opportunities to help fledgeling democracies take root. As well, we must be aware of the more nefarious motives of nations for whom state intervention is merely a thin veil for imperialistic ambitions. With this, we consider the recent events in Ukraine and its impact on our national security. Brief History of Ukraine An independent country embroiled in civil war, Ukraine fell prey to attack from Soviet forces in 1921. The acquisition of the eastern two thirds of the state by Russia was considered crucial...to the formation of the Soviet Union (Conant, 2014). Over the next two decades, ... Aibileen and Minny, two maids, are among the first ones to agree to help Skeeter, despite the potential danger to themselves. Tolkien s universe in The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao prove to be more than just an allusion to the fantastical works. The recurring comparisons of the Trujillato to the power of Sauron are more than just metaphors. They are descriptions. Diaz uses his references to describe people and situations, in real life, that have no other way of being described. The first direct quote of Oscar de Leon is, What more sci fi than Santo Domingo? Also, just as Shelob never hesitates to prey on both man and orc, so too La Fea cheated everyone she did business with, including her brother (139). Diaz uses the allusion to explain even what the sister of Trujillo thinks, knowing that Shelob does not like to kill her prey right away, instead stinging them and leaving them paralyzed before she actually kills them. This method is used against Beli as well; when La Fea orders her orcs to capture Beli, she is beaten to the brink of death, but not killed. The perfection and detail of Diaz s allusion goes much deeper than a simple metaphor, and actually defines who this character is. When Tolkien originally wrote The Lord of the Rings, he did so as reference to World War II, which was ongoing at the time. For him, Sauron was a representation of Hitler; the gaze of His Eye, the spread of industrialization and destruction from the war. For Diaz, Sauron is Trujillo, the gaze of His Eye, the domination he exerted, as well as the anonymity of his secret police. A competitive tactic is a tool that the firm can use to compete with rivals and succeed eventually. Examples of competitive tactics are price leaders, product differentiation, price and differentiation focus, timing tactics, and market location tactics (Mitchell, n.d.). Today this essay will analyze the competitive tactic of Wal Mart Stores Inc., the retail giant of America. Furthermore, a SWOT analysis will be performed on the company to understand its internal and external environment, and finally a new competitive tactic that it should attempt will be formulated. With many competitors lagging behind such as Target, Alders, Kmart, and Costco, Wal Mart has been able to maintain the lead in the retail market. As a matter of fact, as a competitive tactic, Wal Mart focuses on maintaining lower prices with their motto being Everyday Low Prices . Wal Mart has been able to maintain a price leadership strategy due to the vastness of the corporation. It is said that within a 15 miles range, there must be a Wal Mart for almost every customer in USA (Walmart, n.d.). With around 4,700 stores in USA alone, it has been able to become the routine shopping place of numerous households.
