We have mentioned the increased importance of B2B branding and the differences compared to B2C.
B2B branding has been shown to factor in emotions as well as rationality and relationships at a greater
extent than B2C (Leek Christodoulides 2011). How should Canon act to successfully brand itself in
this arena? According to Fournier Avery (2011) branding is shifting from differentiation to resonance.
Companies can achieve greater success by embedding themselves naturally in web conversations with
integrated brand messages . Then the question becomes, how can one apply this to B2B branding?
While it is important to emphasize the unique value proposition of Canon s products on mediums such
as the company s website, the emotional aspect could also be emphasized here to a greater

Value of Philosophy Essay
Philosophy is the study of examining and thinking about questionable ethical problems and/or
generally accepted certainties. Philosophy aims at knowledge that combines a variety of academic
fields as well as convictions, prejudices and beliefs.
What is Russell s essay about? Present Russell s position in your own words.
Bertrand Russell s essay addresses many issues concerning philosophy. In the writing, he states
philosophy s nature, value, and criticisms. The essay explains these aspects of the study of philosophy
in relatively different ways. The main idea for establishing value in his essay is by explaining how it is
best obtained, and its effect on other people. The essay continues with his criticisms of those who

It states that even though philosophy doesn t give us a certainty of true answers, it suggests many
possibilities which enlarge our thoughts and free them from tyranny of custom. He also supports the
idea that philosophy is beneficial because it enriches intellectual imagination . The essay brings up the
points of the practical man, and why they are at a loss of intellectual imagination because they don t
explore the unknown by viewing life as simple. As evidence, he uses an example of mass disease and
poverty of a society. The theory is that in those conditions, there would still be much to be improved
to produce a valuable society. Even if the society has the proper food supplies, they need the goods of
the mind (knowledge) to build a well governed society. He believes practical men undermine that
aspect, thereby explaining their lack of intellectual imagination. The next argument is that philosophy
saves us from convictions, prejudices, and cultural beliefs. The affect that that has on a person is to
open up a fresh prospective with very little bias. He believed for this to be beneficial to people
socially, by developing empathy which helps you understand others points of view. That theory goes
hand in hand and gives a fine segway to his fourth and final argument of the freedom and equity
learned from philosophical contemplation reflecting in your personality (action and emotion). The

Riley V. California Case
Riley v. California is a Supreme Court case that pertains to the Fourth Amendment; specifically, the
privacy clause. This case was decided by the Court in 2014 with a unanimous decision for Riley. It
came to the Court after the petitioner, Riley, was stopped for a traffic violation and then arrested on a
weapons charge. The arresting officer proceeded to search Riley and removed a cell phone from his
pocket. After accessing the phone the officer found evidence of gang related activity. The officer took
Riley back to the station and a detective that specialized in gang related crime went through the phone
and found multiple pictures and videos pertaining to a shooting a few weeks prior. They sought to
enhance the charges due to the evidence found on his phone that connected him to the gangs. Riley
moved to suppress the evidence that was discovered on his phone; the trial court denied the motion
and the Court of Appeals affirmed. A number of interests groups appeared as amici in this case
including: EPIC, American Civil Liberties Union, Cato Institute, DKT Liberty Project, Constitutional
Accountability Center amongst others submitted briefs in support of the petitioner. Two groups
submitted briefs in support of the respondent and those include Association of State Criminal
Investigative Agencies and Arizona et al. The Supreme Court held that without a warrant the police

Analysis Of Heroin By The Velvet Underground
The song Heroin by The Velvet Underground is, as the title suggests, about shooting up heroin.
Because of the lyrics, if a new client sang this particular song to a counselor, one could probably
assume that the client had a heroin addiction, but even that would depend on whether the medical,
counseling, or positive psychology model was used.
The medical model would evaluate this patient, and look for symptoms. Once a list of symptoms was
developed, we would find a diagnosis to fit that list of symptoms. In order to treat the patient, we
would need to remove the symptoms (R. Stensrud, lecture, January 24, 2017). Removing the
symptoms would be the primary goal under this model. Because of this, the patient may be put into a
rehabilitation setting where he or she is on medication to help with withdrawal symptoms. This would
take place instead of attempting to figure out why the person was an addict in the first place. Once the
patient completes rehabilitation or their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Stensrud, lecture, January 24, 2017). When using this model, one cannot assume that the heroin
addiction or the barriers in the way of overcoming it were the patient s fault. Within this model, it is
also really important that the patient wants to change. If the patient does not want to change, this
model does not work. The fact that the patient came to a counselor singing this song says that they
may want to change but do not have the means to change their situation. After conversation about
where the patient is currently, and where they want to be, a plan will be put into place to define what
the patient will need to do differently in order to get past the heroin addiction (R. Stensrud, lecture,
January 24, 2017). For example, maybe one of the patient s barriers is that he or she lives in an area
known for high heroin usage. How can we get that patient out of that area so that he or she is not

Soccer! Why is it something that can shape character as an adult?
It was seven o clock in the morning on a Sunday afternoon. The sun was already peeking through my
window. I could feel the warmth of the sun as it was shining on my face. Lying there, I listened to the
sounds that only someone who was up at that time of the morning on a Sunday, could hear. I listened
as my neighbors cut their grass. I heard birds chirping, as if they were speaking to me. Teresa, get up!
Today is the big day . It wasn t normal for me as a teenager, to wake up on my own. My mom was my

Looking back, I remember this moment as if it were yesterday. It seemed as if all my senses were
heightened. I can still remember the smell of the fresh cut grass, the freshly chalked lines, the feel of
the sun beating down on my exposed skin and the sounds of all the younger kids playing in the back
ground. More importantly though, I remember the way I felt when I first saw my teammates. I felt a
great sense of happiness. Additionally, I felt warm inside, a sense of excitement, loved, needed, and
wanted. Even though I had my biological family, I also had a second family in them. This was my
Sunday family. That game, that day, was one of our biggest games! Not only was it against our biggest
rival but the winner went on to play in the state championship. The team we were playing had beaten
us twice and we had beaten them twice as well. We were evenly matched at every level, but still, I felt
nervous, anxious, scared and even excited. As a goalie, I knew that a lot of the important aspects of the
game rested directly on my shoulders, a feat to which I gladly accepted.
Finally, after what felt like a lifetime, the whistle blew. This indicated that the game had begun. We
had ninety minutes to show everyone, including ourselves, why we were the better team. As the game
progressed, it became apparent that I was struggling in my position. I had let two goals go in, that on

1.0 Introduction:
Breast cancer is the most diagnosed cancer in the US for women
(http://www.breastcancer.org/symptoms/understand_bc/statistics). Even though the diagnosis and
treatment of this condition has improved dynamically over the past few decades, it is still one of the
leading causes of mortality among the women in USA and all over the world. There are usually four

Around 25 30% of the total breast cancer patients are diagnosed with HER2 gene amplification
(Vogel, Charles L., et al, 2002). Patients with HER2 gene overexpression also produces a higher level
of protein therefore, the patients with this condition are susceptible to decreased disease free and
shorter overall survival rate(Vogel, Charles L., et al, 2002). The non targeted cytotoxic chemotherapy
has been used as a standard treatment of this condition. However, there are several side effects for
these non targeted therapies; such as vomiting, nausea, headache, fatigue, diarrhea, dizziness, anemia,
thrombocytopenia, leukemia, anxiety, depression, anorexia and so on(O Shaughnessy, Joyce, et al,
2011). Therefore, a lot of patients are unable to use cytotoxic chemotherapy as a standard treatment. It
is necessary to have a safe treatment that can serve the unmet purpose of these patients.
Trastuzumab is a monoclonal antibody that recognizes the p185 site of HER2 (Vogel, Charles L., et al,
2002). As this is a humanized antibody, it reduces the chances of immunological response in the
human body that may occur if a murine antibody was used. At the same time, this humanized
monoclonal antibody initiates the maximum recruitment of patients endogenous immune system to
attack and destroy the overexpressed cells (Vogel, Charles L., et al, 2002). The efficacy of this
therapeutic has been already evaluated with presence of chemotherapy in several clinical

The Black Hearts, By Jim Frederick
The story of the Black Hearts Brigade is a dark and powerful one, but
necessary for leaders to become familiar with. Army Leaders can benefit greatly by
learning from the mistakes of their predecessors and thereby avoid making similar
errors. In Jim Frederick s book, Black Hearts, one of the most tragic moments of the
war in Iraq is brought to light and discussed by soldiers firsthand. Their lessons could
guide a future leader and help him or her prevent an atrocity like this one from occurring
again. The book tells us of the true story of the Mahmudiah Killings committed by
troops belonging to the 502nd Infantry Regiment s Black Heart Brigade. They were
operating in the infamous Triangle of Death, which ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Black Hearts teaches a valuable lesson about the responsibility that leaders
have in today s Army to lead their soldiers on and off the battlefield. The story of these
soldiers is a tragic example of how, if that leadership is lacking, awful things can
happen to members of the Army and members of the population we are operating with.
Communication is an absolutely essential part of leadership. If communication is
poor; leadership will be poor. Leaders must be conscious of the way that their
communication will be seen and perceived by every soldier under their command.
Communication, how a leader interacts with and commands his troops, will trickle
down the ranks and affect everyone s thought process and behavior. It is amazing how
different methods of communication can alter and distort the same intended message
depending on how they are delivered and received. In Black Hearts, the communication
between leaders and their troops was not at all conducive to the success of their
mission. In fact, the lack of effective communication was so prevalent in the Black
Hearts Brigade that it actually contributed to the events that would follow. LTC Tom
Kunk, the commander of the 1 502nd infantry regiment, is the best example in the story
of how this

Classical And Operant Conditioning And The Field Of...
How have studies of classical and operant conditioning contributed to the field of psychology?
In this essay I will outline the main principles of both operant and classical conditioning methods and
discuss what both theories have contributed to the field of psychology and what they have taught us
about the way in which some human behaviour occurs.
Classical conditioning, also known as Pavlovian conditioning (Davis, S. F., Buskist, W. (2008). 21st
century psychology: a reference handbook Page 312 (Vol. 1). Sage.) states our behaviours are
instigated by associating certain stimuli with other behaviours which involves four main learning
principles known as acquisition, extinction, spontaneous recovery and stimulus generalisation and
discrimination. (Martin, G.N., Carlson, N.R., and Buskist, W. (2013). Psychology. (5th ed.). Page 228
Harlow, Essex: Pearson Education. Chapter 7). Acquisition refers to the learning phase in classical
conditioning when the conditioned stimulus increases in strength, extinction refers to when the
conditioned stimulus is no longer linked with the unconditioned stimulus. Spontaneous recover refers
to the resurfacing of the conditioned response after a period in which the response has been less
apparent. Finally, stimulus generalisation and discrimination refers to when a conditioned response
applies to similar stimuli, for example, being conditioned to fear a stuffed white rabbit the same
behaviour will apply to an object of the same variety

Dow Cole (The Best Of Me)
Dawson Cole (The Best of Me) The Best of Me starts with Dawson as an adult, however it gives an
abundant amount of information on his teenage years through multiple flashbacks. These flashbacks
inform the viewer of the rough life that he endured up until the day he left his abusive father, and
breaks into this garage where he meets the man that changes his life, Tuck. Through his hard times
and his good times, he met the girl he came to love, Amanda. Dawson Cole teaches the audience how
to make the best things come from a rough life, from finding an amazing father figure, to finding the
love of a lifetime. When the movie shows Dawson as an adult, he is shown in muscle tanks, flannels,
or just a regular old t shirt. He is also typically seen in jeans. Dawson has short dark brown hair, and
basically a five o clock shadow across his face. When the movie goes through flashbacks and shows
him as a teenager he is typically seen in a t shirt and hoodie with a pair of jeans. As a teen Dawson had
longish brown hair, just past his ears. His appearance going from his teenage years to adult life really
didn t change which kind of lets the reader know that as a person Dawson s morals and the way he
lives have basically stayed the same. Dawson grew up and lived his life in South Carolina. As a child

There is Only One Cleopatra
Almost every pharaoh queen was named Cleopatra, yet only one is ever thought of, Cleopatra Thea
Philopator VII, The Goddess and Beloved of her Father . Every moment of her life from 69 BCE until
August 12, 30 BCE was a story larger than life, epic in scale, and over the top in its grandeur. As the
last reigning pharaoh of the Ptolemaic Dynasty in Ancient Egypt, she is remembered for her ability to
rule as a political genius and a strong female leader living in a male dominated world despite all odds
being against her. Firstly, Cleopatra grew up in the Ptolemaic palace living a life of luxury, yet her
subjects worshipped and even felt connected to her as more than just their queen. Secondly, after
Cleopatra was exiled by her incompetent brother, Ptolemy XII, she came back with an army of
mercenaries and took back Egypt to be its sole and more qualified ruler. Lastly, Cleopatra went to any
means to secure her power and to ensure her nation s financial and political strength; therefore what
started off as a strategic alliance with Rome slowly became her dominance over most of the ancient
world. Pharaohs for centuries had put themselves on a pedestal, those in the Ptolemaic Dynasty rarely
ever connected with their subjects, but Cleopatra defied this ideology. The Ptolemies were
descendants of a general in Alexander the Great s military and therefore were aligned with Greek and
Macedonian traditions. Previously, Greek rulers and Egyptian subjects caused great division among

The Things They Carried The Weight Of Life Essay
The Weight of Life
They carried the sky. The whole atmosphere, they carried it, the humidity, the monsoons, the stink of
fungus and decay, all of it, they carried gravity, (O Brien 114). The Things They Carried follows army
men as they endure the hardships of battle. Through the story, we are introduced to the characters by
what they carry with them. Each object reveals continuously more about the characters that ultimately
brings us to an understanding of who they are. The use of objects in this story relates well with my
life. By looking at what I carry, it can be determined who I am. May it be a driver s license, style
choice, or even the way one carries himself; it can be determined (at least roughly) who someone is.
However, it is the meaning behind what we carry that truly defines who we are. Tangible or intangible,
what we carry tells our individual story ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I personally relate well to a specific portion of this story. Lieutenant Jimmy Cross carried a pebble
with him everywhere he went. It may seem absurd to carry a pebble while at war... what s the use,
right? However, he carried more than just a pebble; he carried his love for Martha through that
seemingly useless rock. I too carried an object like that pebble: something seemingly useless. I
acquired a green wrist band while with my good friend. This was one of the last times I spoke to her.
From that day on, I wore the green wrist band every minute of every hour for two years. Although I
cared very much for her, the feelings only went in one direction. Every time I looked down at the
green band it reminded me of her. One day the green wrist band finally snapped... but I wasn t sad.
When it gave out it was almost like closure for me. When the small weight of that band was lifted
from my wrist, an even larger weight was lifted from my heart. I looked down at the fractured band,
smiled, and threw it

The Importance Of A Well Prepared Environment
Maria Montessori inadvertently created an alternative to traditional schooling. She did this by
allowing her pupils the opportunity to learn through action rather than repetition. Montessori had five
main principles: respect for the child, sensitive periods, the prepared environment, auto education, and
the teacher s role. In this paper I will discuss the prepared environment thoroughly and how a well
prepared environment can positively affect each student in the 3 6 classroom. I will, in reflection,
discuss the negative outcomes that may arise from an ill prepared classroom.
Sensitive periods are blocks of time in a child s life when the child is absorbed with one characteristic
of the environment to the exclusion of all others (Lillard, 1972, p.33). These sensitive periods are: a
need for order, the use of the hand and tongue, the development of walking, a fascination with minute
and detailed objects, and a time of intense social interest (Lillard, 1972, p.33).
The first, and most prevalent in a classroom, of the sensitive periods is the need for order which
begins within the first year of life. Rules and routine are important in a newborn s day; consistency is
key to a happy baby (Knestrict, 2015). Rules and routine in a newborns day gives them the knowledge
that their caretakers are able to be relied on. They know they ll get fed and changed when need be,
they ll be put to bed when they re tired and even get to see new faces routinely (ie. Babysitters,

Summary Of The Life Of Douglas s Life
Everyone feels alive at one point of their life. Douglas felt alive when he went fruit picking with his

His best friend, John moved away and many people died like Colonel Freeleigh and Helen Loomis.
There were a plethora of happy moments too. Douglas felt alive for the first time. The grass whispered
under his body. He put his arm down, feeling the sheat of fuzz on it, and far away, below, his toes

For example, he put his arm down, feeling the sheat of fuzz on it, the wind sighed over his shelled

how Douglas felt that moment tells me that Douglas felt alive. Douglas said he would carry all the
buckets of fruit that they had picked up, he jumped on his brother Tom and rolled down the hill while
holding on to Tom. Also, Douglas laid down and noticed his surroundings and he screamed and
shouted that he was alive about a dozen times. An experience that made me feel alive was when I rode

A Prince By Lao Tzu
Rattling the Cages
The actions of individuals are controlled essentially by one thing, the mind of that individual. The
citizens of this world are able to partake in any actions they desire. People should forget the thought of
limits and restraints and everything should govern itself. Doing nothing will allow everything to
harmonize with each other. These ideas come from the writer Lao tzu in the piece called Thoughts
from the Tao te Ching. Lao tzu presents many idealist ways in his writing. The main focus is on the
idea that people are able to govern themselves and partake in the actions they desire without restraint.
As he wisely states, Practice not doing, and everything will fall into place (206, Lao tzu). This advice

Restraint is an aspect that is required today in order to have a successful government and society.
Without limiting certain elements of culture, such as military and pollution, society would slowly
decay. Society should incorporate both the idealistic ways of Lao tzu and the realistic ways of
Machiavelli in restraint in order to maintain civility. The advice given by Lao tzu is idealistic and
revolves around the idea of practicing nothing. First is the idea that civilians of this world are able to
govern themselves; limits and restraint must not exisit. The government would still exist, but not
present itself in the daily lives of the people; the ability to carry out actions more freely would
increase. The government should be able to rule and the citizens not be aware of its existence.
Freedom on all levels allows true happiness to prevail. People would be content in their own ways and
not want to leave the country and travel. Ultimately, by practicing nothing, all the elements of the
world would simply fall into place and maintain themselves. Sadly, the outcome of pure happiness
would not prevail. With no limits or laws, individuals are free to do as they please. This would not
result in perfect harmony between people, but would create more chaos. Not all humans possess good
morals to discourage them from violent and criminal behavior. Laws and restraints are crucial to have

Healthcare System Is A Fundamental Right For An Individual
Introduction Health is one of the global challenges for humanity. According to the constitutions of
World Health Organization (WHO) the highest attainable standard of health is a fundamental right for
an individual. Healthy individuals lead to secure their lifetime income and hence to increase in gross
domestic product and in tax revenues. Healthy individuals also reduce pressure on the already
overwhelmed hospitals, clinics, and medical professionals and reduce workload on the public safety
networks, charities, and governmental (or non governmental) organizations. To keep individuals
healthy an effective and readily accessible modern healthcare system is a prerequisite. Introduction
With the rapid increase of the older population coupled with that of its life span, the number of
patients who require monitoring also increases. Therefore, it is predicated that the cost of
hospitalization and patient care will rise worldwide. This includes patients who suffer sentinel events
associated with; incorrect medication, dosage inaccuracies, contraindications or critical delays in
interventions resulting in hospitalization. Health monitoring systems (HMS) can play a significant role
in reducing hospitalization, burden of medical staff, Consultation time, waiting lists and overall
healthcare costs. Health monitoring systems can be classified into three categories which are identified
below. Introduction REMOTE HEALTH MONITORING SYSTEMS (RHMS) REFER TO

The pioneer and all his train are now arrived safely in the realm of Romance. His prairie schooner

This can be explained particularly in the case of the Morrill Act signed by the former president himself
in 1862, which established the donation of public lands to various states in order to establish
universities with three land grant ideals: higher education that is accessible to all, the obligations of
universities to teach liberal arts and practical subjects, and to share knowledge far beyond the campus
borders. Iowa was the first state to accept the Act, making Iowa Agricultural College and Model Farm
the nation s first land grant institution. Until today, Iowa State still remains true to the land grant
missions, and continues to strive for excellence as a national leader of modern land grant institutions.
Speaking of which, I realize the first land grant ideal: Open higher education to all regardless of race,
gender and background is closely associated with one of the greatest achievements of Lincoln the
issuance of the Emancipation Proclamation that led to the abolishment of slavery in the United States.
If it were not for Lincoln s contributions, the ideal might have not been made possible. Furthermore,
the incorporation of Lincoln esque figures as laboring men in the mural reflects the former president s

Explain The Steps Involved In A 4x100m Relay
The various aspects when considering movement skill development include body control and
awareness, technique, timing, anticipation and object manipulation. Body control is the ability to co
ordinate movements with precisions and balance and co ordination are key. Whereas body awareness
refers to the awareness and how conscious an individual is when performing an action. An element
that can be claimed as the most important component involved in skill development is technique; as it
is the method used to perform a skill and perform it well. Furthermore, anticipation is predicting what
the impending actions will occur and timing is the way in which parts of a particular movement flow
together. And lastly, object manipulation is the concern of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Object manipulation is the ability to move and control an object used for the particular sport. At the
beginning of the race, especially if starting in blocks and in a crouch position, being able to have a
firm grip of the baton is essential and to maintain this grip until it is passed. Also, the ability to
maintain that strong grip and have successful baton changes is extremely important. Although, if the
baton is dropped at any time due to lack of object control, the team is not disqualified and can retrieve
the baton and continue running, unless it leaves their lane. Without object manipulation when
participating in a 4x100m relay, the team would impair placing and timing and also wouldn t be able
to have successful baton changes and starts which is why it is so

The Effects Of Carbon Dioxide On Our Oceans
Our oceans absorb almost twenty five percent, each year, of all the carbon dioxide that human activity
emits into the air. Scientists originally believed that the idea of our oceans absorbing extra carbon
dioxide that is in the air was a positive idea, because it would deter global warming. But, they soon
came to the realization that this absorption process was having similarly disastrous effects, as global
warming does, and it what happening to our oceans. This phenomenon, of our oceans taking in the
excess carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, leads to ocean acidification; a term used to describe how
our oceans are becoming increasingly more acidic over time. However, just in the past 200 years,
ocean acidification has increased by thirty percent, and this number will only continue to increase due
to our current rate of industrialization.
Carbon dioxide is one of the major greenhouse gases, and is one of the most common gases found in
the earth s atmosphere. Carbon dioxide is released into the atmosphere in mass amounts by human
activities and then absorbed by our oceans. The main way that carbon dioxide is added to the
atmosphere is by the burning of fossil fuels and deforestation. Increased energy composition and with
the industrialization age, beginning in the 18th century, has led to a drastic spike in the burning of
fossil fuels and therefore the release of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. The main emitters of
carbon dioxide are cars, airplanes, and factories

The police arrested him some distance from the scene of accident, at a movie theatre. How could

Conquest And Its Impact On The World
From the beginning of time, every great empire has emerged out of conquest. Conquest has
definitively shaped our current world. Yet, conquest would not be conquest without the aspect of
othering. Othering is simply treating the a different group of people as not human or completely
different, therefore not identifying[a] with them. In order for an empire to conquer another territory,
they must first dehumanize or other the group they are conquering. Empires did this as an attempt to
justify the cruel or unjust acts the would undertak[b]e on these people. Some influential empires that
othered in order to allow for mass conquest were the Romans, Portuguese, Aztecs, and Spanish. In
order for a successful conquest to happen the dominant group must other another group of people. [c]
The Roman empire repeatedly othered in order to conquer and expand their territories. Rome was one
of the largest both residential and territorial empires in the world. [d]Rome became a great power
ruling 60 to 70 million subjects and it consisted of everything that touched the Mediterranean
Sea(256). But Rome did not start as a such a dominate empire; it had to conquer much land to achieve
its high status. Prior to Rome s dominance it was only a single city estate surrounded by many other
unconnected city estates. However, what allowed the city estate of Rome to grow into a massive
empire was through its use of violent conquest. Rome managed to expand so rapidly because

Saturday Afternoon Analysis
The next story is Saturday Afternoon by Erskine Caldwell which setting revolves around the butcher
shop where Tom Denny is a hardworking man who sells meat to his dealers and everyone who buys it
likes it. The setting of the story which is a meat block is described to be dirty, stinky and a lot of
greasy and fat flies swarming around the flesh of the bloody meat being chopped. Moreover, there is
this big man named Jim, the friend of Tom who has a plan to kill Will Maxie, an old, smart and
hardworking Negro. Will Maxie is said to be rich and making too much money because of his hard
work in his business of taking grass out of cotton. Unfortunately, many men poke him with sticks and
since he is getting old, he cannot fight back. Having a wife and grown daughters, he is said to be a

Racial discrimination, abuses, prejudicing and maltreatment to other races were still present anywhere

Nicole Oresme
Abstract
Nicole Oresme, also known as Nicolas Oresme, was born around 1320 in the 14th century on the
outskirts of the Norman city of Caen. Unfortunately, nothing was known of his family. Oresme was
known as one of the most famous scholastic philosophers of the middle age s. He was known for
many different subjects including; economics, physics, astrology, astronomy, theology, philosophy,
and mathematics. Oresme earned his doctorate of arts from the University of Paris between the years
of 1341 1342. In the same year he became grand master of the College of Navarre. He mainly wrote in
the language of Latin but also wrote in French [1]. Oresme was appointed canon in 1362 and later in

He came about the idea to use rectangular coordinates and geometric figures to explain uniform and
non uniform distribution of various quantities. For example, he worked on the change of velocity in
relation to time. More importantly, this helped lay a strong foundation that later led to the discovery of
analytic geometry by René Descartes. Oresme used his geometric figures to give the first proof of the
Merton theorem, shown in figure 1 below. This theorem states, The distance traveled in any given
period by a body moving under uniform acceleration is the same as if the body moved at a uniform
speed equal to its speed at the midpoint of the period [2]. Some believe that this resulted in later
discoveries of kinematics, affecting the later work of Galileo s.
Figure 1 Another mathematical contribution was the development of the first proof of the divergence
of the harmonic series. Oresme s proof had less advanced mathematics then the modern proof today.
His proof on the harmonic series was not touched on until later centuries, and was only replicated by
the Bernoulli brothers [1]. Oresmes proof groups the harmonic terms by taking 2, 4, 8, 16, and so on,
after the first two terms, and noting that each block has a sum larger than a ½ [3]. Resulting

Thurgood Marshall was a great African American Civil Rights activist who changed a lot of lives in
the United States. As a passionate lawyer and prominent Supreme Court justice he fought for Civil
Rights and social justice in the courts and believed that racial integration is best for all schools. Very
early in his professional life Marshall broke down racial barriers and overcame resistance despite the
odds. He then became a role model of the disciplined leader, although he didn t have the religious

slavery in the US. Quite evidently, he worked for the good of American society. Thurgood never
wanted to lead protests but to peaceably pioneer civil rights movements. He found he was achieving a
long held ambition which placed him in the lead of the social revolution to end racial segregation. (4,

many important things as a judge. He fought for individual rights and equality. His efforts helped to
put an end to all racial segregation and discrimination against all African Americans in this country.
Marshall did not only fight for equality in his fellow Africans, but also put important decisions as a

The Marshmallow Experiment
Self control is the ability to subdue our impulses in order to achieve longer term goals rather than
responding to immediate impulses. Instead we plan, evaluate and often avoid doing things we ll regret
later. The ability to exert self control is typically called willpower, which allows us to direct our
attention toward goals. And, therefore, it underlies all kinds of achievement. The Marshmallow
Experiment A psychologist named Walter Mischel, in a psychology experiment in 1970, placed a treat
in front of children and offered them a choice they could either enjoy a treat of marshmallow now, or
wait a brief period of time in order to get two snacks. The experimenter then left the room. He found
on coming into the room after some time that many of the kids immediately ate the marshmallow, but
a portion of the kids were able to put off the urge to enjoy the treat now and wait for the reward of
getting two delicious goodies later on. Mischel discovered later that the children, who had waited for
the treat, performed better academically than kids, who ate the treat right away. Those, who delayed
their gratification, also displayed fewer behavioral problems and later had much higher SAT scores. In
follow up experiments, Mischel found that using a number of distraction techniques helped children
delay gratification more effectively. Such techniques included singing songs, thinking about
something else, or covering their eyes. The children in Mischel s study had the promise of a secondary
reward for waiting just a short period of time. But, on the contrary, everyday scenarios don t always
come with this guarantee and, therefore, it becomes quite difficult to delay gratification.
Unpredictability of future rewards The uncertainty about future rewards makes delaying immediate
gratification a real challenge. And, that is why, many think why not have immediately which is there
in front of us. May be, it may not be there later! Our everyday life is replete with such examples. If on
a diet, many will lose their self control and give in to temptation to enjoy a delicious dish at a party.
They will argue with themselves that even after following a diet plan, they are facing difficulty in
losing weight. So why

Texans were even more determined than most states to recover their past. No other region of the
country had experienced such a convoluted history. (A Line in the Sand: The Alamo in Blood and

The Threat Of Large Scale Information Security Breaches
This paper will discuss the possibility of large scale information security breaches, the hardware and
software hacked, the hardware and software needed to perform a real time attack, and the
consequences with performing such an attack. This paper will first define any related terms, then
describe the information security systems seen in the WATCH_DOGS video game, then discuss the
various hardware and software involved in an attack in regards to the game and real life, and finally
conclude with whether or not the concepts in WATCH_DOGS are realistic and possible today.
Introduction In the information age of today, the information security is one of the more prevalent
issues that drive information security professionals and computer technicians to build smarter and
stronger software and hardware. In the virtual world of video games, where the effects of something as
devastating as a security breach have no real world repercussions, information security can still be a
serious topic.
One of a popular video game publisher s new titles that have been released recently has taken the
realistic fear of information security and made it into an interesting adventure, where the main
protagonist is every credit card owner s worst nightmare: a hacker. Granted, the game s scenario might
be too specific to say it could exist in the real world, but how plausible would it be for a hacker to

another highly successful dynasty in Chinese history it covered over four centuries from 206 BC 220

reasons; they had the city of Chang an which was one of the two largest cities in the ancient world at

It has no easy means of inspection, which has made it difficult to know the condition of the line.
2. The existing utilidor utilizes a single insulated pipe with multiple chases within it. Evaluating its
performance over the decade, we know that too much heat migrates between chases to the domestic
cold water, making the cold water warm at the tap.
3. Assembly of the pipe was challenging. Mating up a 4 chase pipe to one another was difficult for
crews in the field due to slight misalignments in the manufacturing process.
4. The vaults are small, making access for connections and improvements difficult. The square shape
has arguably led to quicker and larger drifting issues.

Negative Impact On Communication
In my life so far, the top three most influential technologies for communication have been e mail,
texting (including group texting), and social media (primarily Facebook). E mail has shaped my life
positively by being able to communicate professionally. Whether I need to communicate via e mail
with bosses, colleagues, or coworkers; e mail has been an essential tool to be able to do so
professionally, especially when face to face is not an option. A way that e mail has had a negative
impact on my life is if I neglect it. Even when you are on vacation, out with family, or sick in bed; the
e mails keep coming and the pile up can be overwhelming to get through. This is especially true when
you are managing multiple e mail accounts. Another negative impact is when e mail is the only type of
communication with someone. Through my experience, I have found that you can only say so much
through written words, especially through email. The best communication with people goes through
multiple mediums, of talking in person (or on the phone) as well as through e mail.
Texting has had a big impact on my life. I grew up without a phone, however, in my last years of high
school my parents bought me one. Since then, texting has been a crucial way of communicating with

Weather it s a major Hollywood blockbuster film with A list actors and actresses or a small

The Success Of Change Management
According to Cialdini, the success of leaders, executives, managers, and salespeople is measured by
their capacity to complete goals. Those objectives are met, more often than not, by reasoning,
persuading and stimulating others to share a vision and follow a common purpose. We live in a world
where those who are the most influential are the most prosperous. Therefore, organizations need to
understand the factors that cause one individual or employee to conform to another s wish or action of
some kind. Our world has become increasingly competitive and unpredictable; especially, amongst
organizations and businesses alike. As a result, organizations are often forced to change their strategic

Moreover, Eisenberg (2015) argues that organizations must focus the bulk of their resources behind an
area in which they wish to compete. Organizations must develop a competitive strategy. According to
Eisenberg et al. Strategy only works when the organization purposefully engages in strategic
alignment, ensuring that employee actions align with the stated aspiration (Eisenberg, Johnson,
Pieterson, 2015). Implementing a new strategy requires a change in technology, process, and people.
The hardest of the three being people. Getting people to adopt a new mind set, behavior or technology
is similar to getting some people to lose weight. The difficulty lies in getting people to eliminate old
habits and build new habits. Building employee support requires senior leadership to inspire a sense of
commitment to the change through communication. Strategic effectiveness is impossible without
successful strategic communication. Organizations must ensure that their strategy is articulated in a
way that employees can easily understand and follow. In other words, talk to employees at their level
because communication is key. Organizations should also consider objections to the new strategy and
develop reasonable explanations. According to Atkins (2014), people will only accept the change as
valid if it is rationale and the resulting benefits are unmistakably clarified. The process of considering
objections is an influential method of marketing a new

I will first address the impact of music and sound effect in a movie. A movie is typically only 2 to 3

emotion. From the characters outfit to the lighting and the location, these are very carefully thought

African American Power In The 18th Century
From the 15th century to about the 18th century there was a struggle between European powers for
control over the American continents. These struggles were faced by the French, English, Portuguese,
and the Spanish Empire. The European powers forced cultural and religious ethics into the Native and
African societies. By decimating native population with famine and war, while forcing western
Africans into immigration. The Jesuits, French missionaries, unlike other European powers they first
tried to understand the ways of the Natives before they forced their customs on them. British settlers
right away were determined to change the ways of the Natives, they heavy forced Christianity on the
Natives. In the 14th century, a few Portuguese ships ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At first, it started off with labor and compensation for the labor. This was known as being an
indentured servant, they would work for about 7 years farming and doing another task in return for a
share of land, which was usually a small piece. They also became indentured servants to pay off debt
as mentioned in the primary source Gottlieb Mittelberger On the Misfortune indentured Servants,
When they have come to an agreement, it happens that adult persons bind themselves in writing to
serve 3, 4, 5 or 6 years for the amount due by them, according to their age and strength. Usually, the
debt that they acquired was for the ship ride from their land to the Americas. It was better to be an
indentured servant versus what was to come which was slavery and cheap labor for little to nothing in
return. In the primary source document Virginia slave laws it mentions how slavery began, Historians
now know that small numbers of Africans lived in Virginia before 1619, the year a Dutch ship sold
some twenty blacks (probably from the West Indies) to the colonists. With the introduction of slavery
was the main source of cheap labor, indentured servants were no longer needed. It soon became very
common and normal for The English and other European powers to own slaves. Such as the Spanish,
the famous conquistador Hernan Cortes who created the encomienda system. This was a grant of
Native American labor and he received about 1000,000 to work on his estate. This lead to the creation
of haciendas which were large plots of land that provided food for the colony and they were worked
by Natives. The slaves were as well transported overseas usually from West Central Africa and
Nigeria they as well as some of the indentured servants had to endure the poor living conditions on the
ship. Slavery was the biggest form of a cheap labor system which benefited the European powers

Essay about The Death Penalty
The most severe of all sentences: that of death. Also known as the death penalty, capital punishment is
the most severe form of corporal punishment as it is requires law enforcement officers to kill the
offender. It has been banned in many countries. In the United States, an earlier move to eliminate
capital punishment has now been reversed and more and more states are resorting to capital
punishment for serious offenses such as murder. In this essay, I will elaborate on capital punishment
and on the cases of Joe Guy, Tommy Zeigler, Leroy Orange, and Charles Munsey.
The Bible mentions that one should not take another s life and people have been violating this for
centuries. We use it in reference to burglary, adultery, love and many ... Show more content on

Consider those jurisdictions that eschew capital punishment altogether. What sanction can such
jurisdictions really apply to those who have already been sentenced to life in prison without parole?
Sentences of this sort may take more lives overall by increasing the number of essentially
unpunishable within prison homicides of guards and fellow inmates.53 Many murderers are killed in
prison even in states that lack the death penalty.54 And if murderers are eventually paroled into the
general population, some of them will kill again. Overall, it is quite possible that the permanent
incapacitation of murderers through execution might save lives on net. A finding that capital
punishment deters and deterrence is our focus here is sufficient but not necessary to find a life life
tradeoff.
With this being said capital punishment is serving in a positive way. If capital punishment spectator
would look at it this way, and publicize it in a manner to get a message across to the violent offenders
these corrupt crime wave would drop dramatically.
In the case involving Joe Guy, he was convicted for his role in a 1993 convenience store robbery in
Plainview, TX in which the store owner was killed, and his elderly mother wounded. Guy, alleged to
be the unarmed lookout, received the death sentence; the alleged mastermind and shooters, in separate
trials, received life sentences. Here a man is a lookout and is getting ready to be put to death, because

A Common Trope Within International Relations That Is Often
A common trope within international relations that is often discussed by analysts and average
individuals alike, is the inevitable decline of American power. Delving into this trope in his book, IS
THE AMERICAN CENTURY OVER?, Joseph S. NYE, JR, argues that the period of American pre
eminence in military, economic, and soft power resources is not over (116). In structuring his
argument, Nye first analyzes Europe, Japan, Brazil, and India and their potential role in challenging
America s ability to maintain an international order. Then, Nye turns his attention towards China, and
comparatively analyzes its military, economic, and soft power to that of the United States. Conversely,
Nye explores potential American responses to China s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Within these terms, Nye contextualizes his argument. For example, Nye explains that though China s
economic and military power allow it to be a more of a potent threat than other challenger, it has a
host of domestic issues, ranging from an underdeveloped countryside to rapid industrialization (50).
Even if China were to overcome its domestic problems, which would translate to an increase in
Chinese economic power, a preponderant role for China in the world economy would not equate to a
Chinese hegemony. It s political and military actions would still have to account for the United States.
Through dissecting how any economic advantage China has over America is negligible, as it comes at
a price for it as well, Nye makes the argument that interdependence constrains China into working
with America in maintaining the international order, rather than working against it. As the United
States derives power from the dollar, much has been said about China s massive holding of dollars,
and how it could potentially use it as a bargaining chip in its relationship with the United States.
However, Nye claims that in the interdependent relationship between the nations, power depends on
asymmetries in interdependence (54). Thus, if China were to dump its dollars on world financial
markets, it could bring America to its knees, but it would also bring

Ghan A Global Village, Every Country Has Its Own Currency
1.0 INTRODUCTION
1.1 Background Study
Though the world now is a global village, every country has its own currency. In Ghana the currency
used is the Ghanaian cedi. There are several Ghana cedi exchange rates but the GHS to USD rate is
the most sought after. The currency symbol and code for the cedi are GHC and GHS respectively. The
faring of the exchange rate has a great influence on economic growth and businesses in the country.
Over the previous couple of decades, various specialists and academicians have expressed that the
exchange rate is essential not just in light of the fact that it encourages worldwide exchange, however
it likewise impacts asset portion in different divisions of the economy. Aron, Elbadawi, and Kahn,

However, the Ghanaian cedi (GHS) reinforced to some degree against the U.S. dollar in 2015. On 5
October, the currency was exchanged at 3.71 GHS per USD. The cedi reinforced impressively after
the nation finished up the offer of a USD 1.0 billion Eurobond. The Ghana Cedi, which was initially
settled in 1965, has been experiencing thrill ride periods, performing unequivocally against significant
exchanging monetary standards at a few focuses while slipping in worth amid other periods. In late
circumstances, the Ghana cedi has been slipping in esteem. One of the advantages of money related
progression and developing of the monetary area is the narrowing of the interest rate spread. The
imperative point deserving of note is that interest of whatever kind should in any event safeguard the
worth of money after some time. The worth of money normally decreases with time thus of various
components, vital among which is the inflation rate. The fundamental purpose of banking is to serve
as a financial intermediation from surplus units of an economy and loaning to shortfall units of an
economy. At the point when banks take deposits from clients, they pay interest on these deposits to
guarantee that the deposits don t lose worth over the period that the money is kept with the bank. The
interest on deposits is named borrowing rate in acknowledgment of the fact that deposits are

Preface
The Impact of Information Technology on the Workforce of the Future
To determine the impact of information technology on the workforce of the future, I conducted a study
using an historical perspective on the use of information technology in the workplace and by the
workforce.
This study also considered recent trends in workforce management such as telecommuting,
globalization, outsourcing, and off shoring activities. The results of this study revealed that
technological advances in office equipment over the past thirty years have enabled organizations to
improve operating efficiencies, improve communications, reduce costs, increase their global presence,
and gain competitive advantage through the implementation of information ... Show more content on

Computers loaded with word processing, spreadsheet analysis and presentation software programs
have become standard fixtures on each employee s desk. Some of the workforce became mobile,
conducting business outside of the traditional office settings through the use of Personal Digital
Assistants (PDAs), cellular phones and laptop computers. The initial users of mobile technology were
salespeople and executive management; however, easier access to the Internet allowed more
employees to become telecommuters, who conducted work related activities either from their homes
or from some other remote location.
Technological advances in electronic communication may continue to decrease the need for traditional
office setting while increasing the number of telecommuters. Electronic capabilities will also continue
to affect outsourcing, off shoring and globalization efforts by many organizations.
Collaboration technologies, currently being enhanced by Microsoft and IBM, may enable companies
to conduct virtual meetings in the near future. In a virtual meeting, employees from remote locations
conduct real time meetings from their own computers using peer to peer software. Participants can see
one another on computer screens, share computer space and make changes to product designs or
contract documents via a virtual whiteboard.

Essay On William Herschel
I studied the topic from Astrology Discovery of Uranus by William Herschel in 1781 . This was a very
interesting topic to me. Astrology has always astonished me and I have been interested in space, stars
and the Universe. So too was William Herschel. At his time people were familiar with a few planets,
the ones up to Uranus, but nothing more. William Herschel was interested in astronomy and read a lot
of books about the subject. He used to star gaze but he only had weak telescopes, so in an interest to
see more, he worked towards building a more powerful telescope. William Herschel spent time at
night after his musical career building telescopes, and after a while, along with his father and brother,
was making the most powerful telescopes around, and seeing further and further into the unknown.
One of his first projects was mapping the different planets and their positions and movements.
During one of his nightly star gazing rituals, he discovered what he thought to be a new comet. He
returned four days later to find the comet to have moved, thus increasing his certainty that it was. He
shared his discovery with others, who despite having a hard time confirming his discoveries at first, ...

Their limited telescope technology had peaked and they were unable to see any further. With the new
star being found, new telescopes created, it was opened up for more discoveries and open mindedness
towards astrology. The discovery of Uranus sparked a renewed interest and search for more planets
and other things in our solar system. This was the beginning of the second phase in the search for
more planets. Most people agree that the discovery by William Herschel was a check point in
discovery, with the planets before Uranus being the first phase of discovery and the ones after that
being the second

Examples Of Fire Escape In The Glass Menagerie
Have you ever felt like just running away from all of the things that worry you, scare you, and make
you shiver? In The Glass Menagerie the characters only way out of the house is through the fire
escape, it also symbolizes the ability for the characters to escape their daily lives and have some time
to themselves. The movie theatre is a way for Tom to escape his home life, this place feeds Tom s
hunger to escape. After Laura left the University she used to go to the museum, it seems as if has a
deeper meaning than just her hiding away from her mom, but it is a place where she used to escape
from everyone and the the world around her. The need for the characters to escape in the play The
Glass Menagerie by Tennessee Williams, he gave them these locations like the fire escape, movie
theatre, and the museum which he created for their escape. The only way for our characters to get out
of the house in the book is through the fire escape, there is no real front door it is just a fire escape.
Fire escapes are used as way to escape from a building s danger hence the name fire escape . But it ...

The way it is perceived is that it is his place to watch these movies and feel like he is somewhere else,
away from his mom s constant nagging. In the book he talks about these films as if they are grand
adventures to new unexplored areas. His urge to just get away from everything is powerful, all he
wants is to see the world and not just his house and town. Watching these movies offers him a peek at
what the world could look like. Without these movies giving him an urge to explore it seems as if he
would be fine with his current life. Watching these movies seems to just make him even hungrier for
adventure because they are showing him what he does not have and so he feels like something is
missing in his life. It is almost like in Tom s life he has different windows to look at the world but he
cannot yet get to

We have mentioned the increased importance of B2B branding and the differences compared to B2C. B2B branding has been shown to factor in emotions as well as rationality and relationships at a greater extent than B2C (Leek Christodoulides 2011). How should Canon act to successfully brand itself in this arena? According to Fournier Avery (2011) branding is shifting from differentiation to resonance. Companies can achieve greater success by embedding themselves naturally in web conversations with integrated brand messages . Then the question becomes, how can one apply this to B2B branding? While it is important to emphasize the unique value proposition of Canon s products on mediums such as the company s website, the emotional aspect could also be emphasized here to a greater ... • 5. Value of Philosophy Essay Philosophy is the study of examining and thinking about questionable ethical problems and/or generally accepted certainties. Philosophy aims at knowledge that combines a variety of academic fields as well as convictions, prejudices and beliefs. What is Russell s essay about? Present Russell s position in your own words. Bertrand Russell s essay addresses many issues concerning philosophy. In the writing, he states philosophy s nature, value, and criticisms. The essay explains these aspects of the study of philosophy in relatively different ways. The main idea for establishing value in his essay is by explaining how it is best obtained, and its effect on other people. The essay continues with his criticisms of those who opposed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It states that even though philosophy doesn t give us a certainty of true answers, it suggests many possibilities which enlarge our thoughts and free them from tyranny of custom. He also supports the idea that philosophy is beneficial because it enriches intellectual imagination . The essay brings up the points of the practical man, and why they are at a loss of intellectual imagination because they don t explore the unknown by viewing life as simple. As evidence, he uses an example of mass disease and poverty of a society. The theory is that in those conditions, there would still be much to be improved to produce a valuable society. Even if the society has the proper food supplies, they need the goods of the mind (knowledge) to build a well governed society. He believes practical men undermine that aspect, thereby explaining their lack of intellectual imagination. The next argument is that philosophy saves us from convictions, prejudices, and cultural beliefs. The affect that that has on a person is to open up a fresh prospective with very little bias. He believed for this to be beneficial to people socially, by developing empathy which helps you understand others points of view. That theory goes hand in hand and gives a fine segway to his fourth and final argument of the freedom and equity learned from philosophical contemplation reflecting in your personality (action and emotion). • 6. Riley V. California Case Riley v. California is a Supreme Court case that pertains to the Fourth Amendment; specifically, the privacy clause. This case was decided by the Court in 2014 with a unanimous decision for Riley. It came to the Court after the petitioner, Riley, was stopped for a traffic violation and then arrested on a weapons charge. The arresting officer proceeded to search Riley and removed a cell phone from his pocket. After accessing the phone the officer found evidence of gang related activity. The officer took Riley back to the station and a detective that specialized in gang related crime went through the phone and found multiple pictures and videos pertaining to a shooting a few weeks prior. They sought to enhance the charges due to the evidence found on his phone that connected him to the gangs. Riley moved to suppress the evidence that was discovered on his phone; the trial court denied the motion and the Court of Appeals affirmed. A number of interests groups appeared as amici in this case including: EPIC, American Civil Liberties Union, Cato Institute, DKT Liberty Project, Constitutional Accountability Center amongst others submitted briefs in support of the petitioner. Two groups submitted briefs in support of the respondent and those include Association of State Criminal Investigative Agencies and Arizona et al. • 7. Analysis Of Heroin By The Velvet Underground The song Heroin by The Velvet Underground is, as the title suggests, about shooting up heroin. Because of the lyrics, if a new client sang this particular song to a counselor, one could probably assume that the client had a heroin addiction, but even that would depend on whether the medical, counseling, or positive psychology model was used. The medical model would evaluate this patient, and look for symptoms. Once a list of symptoms was developed, we would find a diagnosis to fit that list of symptoms. In order to treat the patient, we would need to remove the symptoms (R. Stensrud, lecture, January 24, 2017). Removing the symptoms would be the primary goal under this model. Because of this, the patient may be put into a rehabilitation setting where he or she is on medication to help with withdrawal symptoms. This would take place instead of attempting to figure out why the person was an addict in the first place. Once the patient completes rehabilitation or their ... The fact that the patient came to a counselor singing this song says that they may want to change but do not have the means to change their situation. After conversation about where the patient is currently, and where they want to be, a plan will be put into place to define what the patient will need to do differently in order to get past the heroin addiction (R. More importantly though, I remember the way I felt when I first saw my teammates. I felt a great sense of happiness. Additionally, I felt warm inside, a sense of excitement, loved, needed, and wanted. Even though I had my biological family, I also had a second family in them. This was my Sunday family. Patients with HER2 gene overexpression also produces a higher level of protein therefore, the patients with this condition are susceptible to decreased disease free and shorter overall survival rate(Vogel, Charles L., et al, 2002). The non targeted cytotoxic chemotherapy has been used as a standard treatment of this condition. However, there are several side effects for these non targeted therapies; such as vomiting, nausea, headache, fatigue, diarrhea, dizziness, anemia, thrombocytopenia, leukemia, anxiety, depression, anorexia and so on(O Shaughnessy, Joyce, et al, 2011). Therefore, a lot of patients are unable to use cytotoxic chemotherapy as a standard treatment. It is necessary to have a safe treatment that can serve the unmet purpose of these patients. Trastuzumab is a monoclonal antibody that recognizes the p185 site of HER2 (Vogel, Charles L., et al, 2002). As this is a humanized antibody, it reduces the chances of immunological response in the human body that may occur if a murine antibody was used. Army Leaders can benefit greatly by learning from the mistakes of their predecessors and thereby avoid making similar errors. In Jim Frederick s book, Black Hearts, one of the most tragic moments of the war in Iraq is brought to light and discussed by soldiers firsthand. Their lessons could guide a future leader and help him or her prevent an atrocity like this one from occurring again. Black Hearts teaches a valuable lesson about the responsibility that leaders have in today s Army to lead their soldiers on and off the battlefield. The story of these soldiers is a tragic example of how, if that leadership is lacking, awful things can happen to members of the Army and members of the population we are operating with. Communication is an absolutely essential part of leadership. If communication is poor; leadership will be poor. Leaders must be conscious of the way that their communication will be seen and perceived by every soldier under their command. Communication, how a leader interacts with and commands his troops, will trickle down the ranks and affect everyone s thought process and behavior. It is amazing how different methods of communication can alter and distort the same intended message depending on how they are delivered and received. In Black Hearts, the communication

  • 12. Classical And Operant Conditioning And The Field Of... How have studies of classical and operant conditioning contributed to the field of psychology? In this essay I will outline the main principles of both operant and classical conditioning methods and discuss what both theories have contributed to the field of psychology and what they have taught us about the way in which some human behaviour occurs. Classical conditioning, also known as Pavlovian conditioning (Davis, S. F., Buskist, W. (2008). 21st century psychology: a reference handbook Page 312 (Vol. 1). Sage.) states our behaviours are instigated by associating certain stimuli with other behaviours which involves four main learning principles known as acquisition, extinction, spontaneous recovery and stimulus generalisation and discrimination. (Martin, G.N., Carlson, N.R., and Buskist, W. (2013). Psychology. (5th ed.). Page 228 Harlow, Essex: Pearson Education. Chapter 7). Acquisition refers to the learning phase in classical conditioning when the conditioned stimulus increases in strength, extinction refers to when the conditioned stimulus is no longer linked with the unconditioned stimulus. Spontaneous recover refers to the resurfacing of the conditioned response after a period in which the response has been less apparent. Finally, stimulus generalisation and discrimination refers to when a conditioned response applies to similar stimuli, for example, being conditioned to fear a stuffed white rabbit the same behaviour will apply to an object of the same variety ... Dow Cole (The Best Of Me) Dawson Cole (The Best of Me) The Best of Me starts with Dawson as an adult, however it gives an abundant amount of information on his teenage years through multiple flashbacks. These flashbacks inform the viewer of the rough life that he endured up until the day he left his abusive father, and breaks into this garage where he meets the man that changes his life, Tuck. Through his hard times and his good times, he met the girl he came to love, Amanda. Dawson Cole teaches the audience how to make the best things come from a rough life, from finding an amazing father figure, to finding the love of a lifetime. When the movie shows Dawson as an adult, he is shown in muscle tanks, flannels, or just a regular old t shirt. He is also typically seen in jeans. Dawson has short dark brown hair, and basically a five o clock shadow across his face. When the movie goes through flashbacks and shows him as a teenager he is typically seen in a t shirt and hoodie with a pair of jeans. As a teen Dawson had longish brown hair, just past his ears. • 14. There is Only One Cleopatra Almost every pharaoh queen was named Cleopatra, yet only one is ever thought of, Cleopatra Thea Philopator VII, The Goddess and Beloved of her Father . Every moment of her life from 69 BCE until August 12, 30 BCE was a story larger than life, epic in scale, and over the top in its grandeur. As the last reigning pharaoh of the Ptolemaic Dynasty in Ancient Egypt, she is remembered for her ability to rule as a political genius and a strong female leader living in a male dominated world despite all odds being against her. Firstly, Cleopatra grew up in the Ptolemaic palace living a life of luxury, yet her subjects worshipped and even felt connected to her as more than just their queen. Secondly, after Cleopatra was exiled by her incompetent brother, Ptolemy XII, she came back with an army of mercenaries and took back Egypt to be its sole and more qualified ruler. Lastly, Cleopatra went to any means to secure her power and to ensure her nation s financial and political strength; therefore what started off as a strategic alliance with Rome slowly became her dominance over most of the ancient world. Pharaohs for centuries had put themselves on a pedestal, those in the Ptolemaic Dynasty rarely ever connected with their subjects, but Cleopatra defied this ideology. The Ptolemies were descendants of a general in Alexander the Great s military and therefore were aligned with Greek and Macedonian traditions. Previously, Greek rulers and Egyptian subjects caused great division among the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The whole atmosphere, they carried it, the humidity, the monsoons, the stink of fungus and decay, all of it, they carried gravity, (O Brien 114). The Things They Carried follows army men as they endure the hardships of battle. Through the story, we are introduced to the characters by what they carry with them. Each object reveals continuously more about the characters that ultimately brings us to an understanding of who they are. The use of objects in this story relates well with my life. By looking at what I carry, it can be determined who I am. May it be a driver s license, style choice, or even the way one carries himself; it can be determined (at least roughly) who someone is. I personally relate well to a specific portion of this story. Lieutenant Jimmy Cross carried a pebble with him everywhere he went. It may seem absurd to carry a pebble while at war... what s the use, right? However, he carried more than just a pebble; he carried his love for Martha through that seemingly useless rock. I too carried an object like that pebble: something seemingly useless. I acquired a green wrist band while with my good friend. This was one of the last times I spoke to her. From that day on, I wore the green wrist band every minute of every hour for two years. Although I cared very much for her, the feelings only went in one direction. Every time I looked down at the green band it reminded me of her. One day the green wrist band finally snapped... but I wasn t sad. When it gave out it was almost like closure for me. When the small weight of that band was lifted from my wrist, an even larger weight was lifted from my heart. I looked down at the fractured band, smiled, and threw it ... • 16. The Importance Of A Well Prepared Environment Maria Montessori inadvertently created an alternative to traditional schooling. She did this by allowing her pupils the opportunity to learn through action rather than repetition. Montessori had five main principles: respect for the child, sensitive periods, the prepared environment, auto education, and the teacher s role. In this paper I will discuss the prepared environment thoroughly and how a well prepared environment can positively affect each student in the 3 6 classroom. I will, in reflection, discuss the negative outcomes that may arise from an ill prepared classroom. Sensitive periods are blocks of time in a child s life when the child is absorbed with one characteristic of the environment to the exclusion of all others (Lillard, 1972, p.33). These sensitive periods are: a need for order, the use of the hand and tongue, the development of walking, a fascination with minute and detailed objects, and a time of intense social interest (Lillard, 1972, p.33). Throughout his summer, Douglas was filled with happiness and sadness. His best friend, John moved away and many people died like Colonel Freeleigh and Helen Loomis. There were a plethora of happy moments too. Douglas felt alive for the first time. The grass whispered under his body. He put his arm down, feeling the sheat of fuzz on it, and far away, below, his toes creaking in his shoes. The wind sighed over his shelled ears. Restraint is an aspect that is required today in order to have a successful government and society. Without limiting certain elements of culture, such as military and pollution, society would slowly decay. Society should incorporate both the idealistic ways of Lao tzu and the realistic ways of Machiavelli in restraint in order to maintain civility. The advice given by Lao tzu is idealistic and revolves around the idea of practicing nothing. First is the idea that civilians of this world are able to govern themselves; limits and restraint must not exisit. The government would still exist, but not present itself in the daily lives of the people; the ability to carry out actions more freely would increase. The government should be able to rule and the citizens not be aware of its existence. Freedom on all levels allows true happiness to prevail. People would be content in their own ways and not want to leave the country and travel. Ultimately, by practicing nothing, all the elements of the world would simply fall into place and maintain themselves. Sadly, the outcome of pure happiness would not prevail. • 20. Healthcare System Is A Fundamental Right For An Individual Introduction Health is one of the global challenges for humanity. According to the constitutions of World Health Organization (WHO) the highest attainable standard of health is a fundamental right for an individual. Healthy individuals lead to secure their lifetime income and hence to increase in gross domestic product and in tax revenues. Healthy individuals also reduce pressure on the already overwhelmed hospitals, clinics, and medical professionals and reduce workload on the public safety networks, charities, and governmental (or non governmental) organizations. To keep individuals healthy an effective and readily accessible modern healthcare system is a prerequisite. Introduction With the rapid increase of the older population coupled with that of its life span, the number of patients who require monitoring also increases. Therefore, it is predicated that the cost of hospitalization and patient care will rise worldwide. This includes patients who suffer sentinel events associated with; incorrect medication, dosage inaccuracies, contraindications or critical delays in interventions resulting in hospitalization. Scientists originally believed that the idea of our oceans absorbing extra carbon dioxide that is in the air was a positive idea, because it would deter global warming. But, they soon came to the realization that this absorption process was having similarly disastrous effects, as global warming does, and it what happening to our oceans. This phenomenon, of our oceans taking in the excess carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, leads to ocean acidification; a term used to describe how our oceans are becoming increasingly more acidic over time. However, just in the past 200 years, ocean acidification has increased by thirty percent, and this number will only continue to increase due to our current rate of industrialization. Carbon dioxide is one of the major greenhouse gases, and is one of the most common gases found in the earth s atmosphere. Carbon dioxide is released into the atmosphere in mass amounts by human activities and then absorbed by our oceans. The main way that carbon dioxide is added to the atmosphere is by the burning of fossil fuels and deforestation. Oresme used his geometric figures to give the first proof of the Merton theorem, shown in figure 1 below. Instead we plan, evaluate and often avoid doing things we ll regret later. The ability to exert self control is typically called willpower, which allows us to direct our attention toward goals. And, therefore, it underlies all kinds of achievement. The Marshmallow Experiment A psychologist named Walter Mischel, in a psychology experiment in 1970, placed a treat in front of children and offered them a choice they could either enjoy a treat of marshmallow now, or wait a brief period of time in order to get two snacks. The experimenter then left the room. He found on coming into the room after some time that many of the kids immediately ate the marshmallow, but a portion of the kids were able to put off the urge to enjoy the treat now and wait for the reward of getting two delicious goodies later on. Mischel discovered later that the children, who had waited for the treat, performed better academically than kids, who ate the treat right away. Those, who delayed their gratification, also displayed fewer behavioral problems and later had much higher SAT scores. In follow up experiments, Mischel found that using a number of distraction techniques helped children delay gratification more effectively. Such techniques included singing songs, thinking about something else, or covering their eyes. The children in Mischel s study had the promise of a secondary reward for waiting just a short period of time. But, on the contrary, everyday scenarios don t always come with this guarantee and, therefore, it becomes quite difficult to delay gratification. Unpredictability of future rewards The uncertainty about future rewards makes delaying immediate gratification a real challenge. Whether I need to communicate via e mail with bosses, colleagues, or coworkers; e mail has been an essential tool to be able to do so professionally, especially when face to face is not an option. A way that e mail has had a negative impact on my life is if I neglect it. Even when you are on vacation, out with family, or sick in bed; the e mails keep coming and the pile up can be overwhelming to get through. This is especially true when you are managing multiple e mail accounts. Another negative impact is when e mail is the only type of communication with someone. Through my experience, I have found that you can only say so much through written words, especially through email. The best communication with people goes through multiple mediums, of talking in person (or on the phone) as well as through e mail. Texting has had a big impact on my life. I grew up without a phone, however, in my last years of high school my parents bought me one. Since then, texting has been a crucial way of communicating with my friends, family, and peers. Texting, first of all is very convenient. Most people text back within a couple hours and it allows for informal conversation. Group texting has played a key part in my life as well. Group ... • 40. The Success Of Change Management According to Cialdini, the success of leaders, executives, managers, and salespeople is measured by their capacity to complete goals. Those objectives are met, more often than not, by reasoning, persuading and stimulating others to share a vision and follow a common purpose. We live in a world where those who are the most influential are the most prosperous. Therefore, organizations need to understand the factors that cause one individual or employee to conform to another s wish or action of some kind. Our world has become increasingly competitive and unpredictable; especially, amongst organizations and businesses alike. Moreover, Eisenberg (2015) argues that organizations must focus the bulk of their resources behind an area in which they wish to compete. Organizations must develop a competitive strategy. According to Eisenberg et al. Strategy only works when the organization purposefully engages in strategic alignment, ensuring that employee actions align with the stated aspiration (Eisenberg, Johnson, Pieterson, 2015). Implementing a new strategy requires a change in technology, process, and people. The hardest of the three being people. Getting people to adopt a new mind set, behavior or technology is similar to getting some people to lose weight. The difficulty lies in getting people to eliminate old habits and build new habits. Building employee support requires senior leadership to inspire a sense of commitment to the change through communication. Strategic effectiveness is impossible without successful strategic communication. Organizations must ensure that their strategy is articulated in a way that employees can easily understand and follow. In other words, talk to employees at their level because communication is key. Organizations should also consider objections to the new strategy and develop reasonable explanations. According to Atkins (2014), people will only accept the change as valid if it is rationale and the resulting benefits are unmistakably clarified. The process of considering objections is an influential method of marketing a new ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

If their rivals were the ones who came up with the idea of independence, they are known as loyalists because of their rivalry with the revolutionists. Since the loyalists lost the war, there weren t as many famous loyalists as there are Patriots. Benedict Arnold was a general in the Continental Army who fought for the British. Hello everyone, so this is my third vlog and I think I am getting the hang of it. Today, I am going to answer Taylor s question for this week: How does music impact a movie scene and what would happen if it was different music? I will first address the impact of music and sound effect in a movie. A movie is typically only 2 to 3 hours long; and so with every frame, filmmakers and videographers are trying to convey a specific emotion. From the characters outfit to the lighting and the location, these are very carefully thought out. And music is among the most critical point, certainly a very powerful one also. Usually, the debt that they acquired was for the ship ride from their land to the Americas. It was better to be an indentured servant versus what was to come which was slavery and cheap labor for little to nothing in return. In the primary source document Virginia slave laws it mentions how slavery began, Historians now know that small numbers of Africans lived in Virginia before 1619, the year a Dutch ship sold some twenty blacks (probably from the West Indies) to the colonists. With the introduction of slavery was the main source of cheap labor, indentured servants were no longer needed. This was a grant of Native American labor and he received about 1000,000 to work on his estate. This lead to the creation of haciendas which were large plots of land that provided food for the colony and they were worked by Natives. A Common Trope Within International Relations That Is Often A common trope within international relations that is often discussed by analysts and average individuals alike, is the inevitable decline of American power. Delving into this trope in his book, IS THE AMERICAN CENTURY OVER?, Joseph S. NYE, JR, argues that the period of American pre eminence in military, economic, and soft power resources is not over (116). In structuring his argument, Nye first analyzes Europe, Japan, Brazil, and India and their potential role in challenging America s ability to maintain an international order. For example, Nye explains that though China s economic and military power allow it to be a more of a potent threat than other challenger, it has a host of domestic issues, ranging from an underdeveloped countryside to rapid industrialization (50). Even if China were to overcome its domestic problems, which would translate to an increase in Chinese economic power, a preponderant role for China in the world economy would not equate to a Chinese hegemony. It s political and military actions would still have to account for the United States. Through dissecting how any economic advantage China has over America is negligible, as it comes at a price for it as well, Nye makes the argument that interdependence constrains China into working with America in maintaining the international order, rather than working against it. As the United States derives power from the dollar, much has been said about China s massive holding of dollars, and how it could potentially use it as a bargaining chip in its relationship with the United States. However, Nye claims that in the interdependent relationship between the nations, power depends on asymmetries in interdependence (54). Astrology has always astonished me and I have been interested in space, stars and the Universe. So too was William Herschel. At his time people were familiar with a few planets, the ones up to Uranus, but nothing more. William Herschel was interested in astronomy and read a lot of books about the subject. He used to star gaze but he only had weak telescopes, so in an interest to see more, he worked towards building a more powerful telescope. William Herschel spent time at night after his musical career building telescopes, and after a while, along with his father and brother, was making the most powerful telescopes around, and seeing further and further into the unknown. One of his first projects was mapping the different planets and their positions and movements. During one of his nightly star gazing rituals, he discovered what he thought to be a new comet.
