My Career As A Licensed Practical Nurse Essay
Running head: PERSONAL PHILOSOPHY 1 I have been practicing the art of nursing since 1993. I
started my career as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), graduating with a diploma from Long Beach
City College in California December of 1992. Compassion and caring were embedded into my
philosophy during my LPN educational track. While the Registered Nurse population was being
drilled to learn the books and problem solve, the LPN was being taught to learn the books, but to have
an excellent, caring and compassionate bedside manner. In 2007 I received my Associate s Degree
from Cincinnati State Technical School. In 2010 I was accepted into the College of Mount Saint
Joseph Bachelor of Science in Nursing cohort from Saint Elizabeth. In 2013 I graduated with my
Bachelors. My career with Saint Elizabeth began in 2004 on the Orthopedic floor. After graduating
with my Associates Degree I began to look for a career in a specialty area. I thought I wanted the
Emergency Department, but ended up in the Endoscopy Department. I started as a staff nurse and have
worked my way up to Assistant Nurse Manager. Definition of Advanced Practice Nursing The
advanced practice nurse is a nurse with education that has gone beyond their graduate level degree
demonstrating clinical expertise not only in the nurse patient client relationship to achieve optimal
outcomes, but also the ability to problem solve using evidence based research. The advanced practice
nurse will further the scope of practice by

The Moral Dilemma Of By Stephen Covey
MANIPULATED PERCEPTION
Generalising, all of our physical senses are stored as subconscious memories the people, objects (even
apparitions and the supernatural), etc. which may appear in our dreams are comprised of our
knowledge of the external reality. Memory fragments are ubiquitous in all forms of cognitive
processing stored memories enable the brain to construct mental content. As a result, an individual s
perception will vary according to the memories and knowledge accumulated by the physical senses
since birth, and consequently, as Stephen Covey asserts: We see the world, not as it is, but as we are,
or, as we are conditioned to see it.

Whilst in the second dream layer, the emotional trigger I will create something for myself examines
the establishment of self identity, further underpinned by the utilisation of first person and high
modality. It accommodates Fischer s youth and abrupt inheritance of wealth and power while targeting
his emotional proclivity to aspiration and self esteem. Finally, in the third dream layer, the emotional
trigger My father doesn t want me to be him targets Fischer s youthful impulses for self worth and
independence, and metaphorically implies an alternate pathway, unbound by familial expectations.
Fischer has chosen this permanent reality unconditionally and independently, albeit unwillingly, and
this choice cannot be disputed.
Another example, but much more exaggerated, is epitomised by Mal s germination of a relative
reality. The close up shot of the safe with Mal s totem locked inside (01:17:22) is symbolic of her
repressed subconscious, in which she willingly chooses to literally and metaphorically conceal the
object which allows her to discern between reality and dreams A truth that she (Mal) had once known,
but chose to forget. This permanent relative reality which Mal has unconditionally and independently
embraced has become an absolute reality.
Overall, Nolan demonstrates how germinating propagandistic seeds of ideas can be used to

Parental Dominance And Gender Equality
A gender equal society would be the one where the word gender does not exist; where everyone can
be themselves (Gloria Steinem). Gender equality is a substantial problem that is everlasting within the
society of today, and parental dominance is one of the key contributors in this never ending
predicament. Parental dominance is a severe obstacle the protagonists have to overcome as their birth
givers take countless amounts of steps to sway their children into the predetermined route at society
creates for them. These characters within Saturday Climbing and Boys and Girls try their damndest to
fight for justice and to secure what their hearts truly desire. Firstly peer pressure from their parental
figures to partake in activities and society imposes on them leads to rebellion and poor life choices. As
a result of the immense pressure placed upon both Moira and the Farmer s daughter the ladies lash out
and voice their disagreements both physically and verbally. On top of this, the placement of
unnecessary aspirations upon adolescence within society can result in a whole world of problems.
Forcing these children into having such aspirations can lead to negativity and doubt. Both Moira and
the daughter of the farmer face the same predicament through their experiences. Ultimately these
protagonists of Saturday Climbing and Boys and Girls Club to control of their own future in their path
of destiny. They do not allow others to control what they should say or do.

Characteristics Of Cultural Awareness In Africa
Cultural Awareness is a fundamental part of the NCO community and even the Commissioned
Officers community. The level of awareness is vital to one s survival if presented with the situation of
going into an area of the unknown. The country in which is going to be discussed is a vast area with
many different cultural anomalies. This country is Algeria. Culture and what it stands for is of many
meanings. The one that will be discussed is what most will find in any location that they search. The
definition is in short, the manifestations of human intellectual achievements. There are also
characteristics involved in culture as well. These can be defined as the following: Learned Behavior:
which is developed over time, some examples can be standing in line, chewing gum, going to a
concert, and even combing one s hair. Super organic: this implies that culture is superior to nature .
This word is useful when it implies that what may be quite a different phenome from a cultural point
of view. Pervasive: it touches every aspect of life. Idealistic: it embodies the ideas and norms of a
group. Variable: it varies from society to society, group to group. These are just some of the many
characteristics of culture. The cultural characteristics of Algeria are language, demographics,
government, economy, and military. The first thing that is going to be looked at is the country s

Specific Qualities That Make Your Business Successful
2. Literature review.
2.1 Introduction
This literature review will be focused on specific qualities that make your business successful. We will
name both personal (entrepreneur s) and company qualities that could help us to achieve our goals.
This literature review is divided into 3 parts: Be in the Right Industry, Character (personal qualities)
and Company qualities. We will introduce in details content of each of these parts. For this report we
have chosen only relevant information and reliable sources.
2.2 Be in the Right Industry
The first step to a successful business is a right choice of an industry. This is a start point for any
entrepreneur before starting business itself. First of all, we should look on this choice in two ways: 1)
do you see yourself as part of this industry, will it be interesting for you and do you see yourself
successful in this industry, and 2) how successful is this industry nowadays. According to Mintigo
President John Bara, Successful companies tend to be geared towards rapidly growing industries like
software and Internet, computers, financial services, and healthcare. Twenty four percent of the
companies on the list (talking about the 5000 list of the fastest growing companies according to Inc.
magazine) in America are in business services, while 20 percent are in software and Internet.
(Rampton), but in the same time you should remember that it does not matter how successful industry
is, if you do not see yourself as part this industry.

Sully Film Analysis
When Warner Bros. released Sully earlier this year, I thought it looked decent. I assumed Tom Hanks
would give a reliably good performance as the titular pilot. I guessed Clint Eastwood would tell the
story effectively. I even speculated that the film might garner some attention from the Oscars. While I
cannot yet speak to that less assumption, my other feelings about Sully proved true.
This film, billed as the untold story behind the miracle on the Hudson, stars Hanks as Captain Chesley
Sully Sullenberger, the pilot who landed his aircraft on the Hudson river after a freak accident in 2009.
Rather than simply telling the story leading up to the forced water landing, however, the picture
chronicles the tumultuous aftermath of what ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I specifically think of the passengers calling their loved ones, finding their fellow passengers alive
after the landing and thanking Sully as moments that made me choke up a little. Another highlight is
the simple reaction shots that Eastwood shows us of businesspeople in the skyscrapers as they see a
plane hurtling toward the city. That was as a simple and understated way to underscore the heroism of
Sully s action by making us visualize the alternative.
With all that being said, the storytelling here wasn t flawless. Sully takes a somewhat unconventional
approach by showing the aftermath of the crash and focusing on the investigation, but for the most
part the film felt safe and predictable. Every plot beat and character action, even the effective ones,
felt generic and familiar, but in a bad way. I m not sure what I would have wanted the filmmakers to
do instead, but they should have done something to switch things up a little.
Nevertheless, Sully is still a very good movie. Hanks is quite good and Eckhart does well in his role.
The story is economical and moving, even if a little too safe. Sully probably isn t going to be most
people s favorite movie of the year, but it has earned a spot on top 10 lists for 2016, even if it s in the
lower

Evolution Of The 1920s
The 1920 s were a time of change. New ideas were becoming more readily experimented with and
even accepted by large portions of the population. Some of these included jazz music and the fight
against the alcoholic prohibition. The radical idea I will focus on in this paper, however, is Evolution.
It is a theory that had been around for over half a century before the 20 s but had only more recently
caught on in the US. It contradicted the Christian theory of Divine Creation as described in the Bible.
This caused many religious fundamentalists to fight against it. They took their battle to the law books,
and they were challenged by pro evolution modernists in the Scopes Monkey Trial of 1925.
The theory of Evolution was developed by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) was on the forefront of the challenge against the Butler
Act. The ACLU is a non profit organization founded in 1920 whose stated mission is to defend and
preserve the individual rights and liberties guaranteed to every person in this country by the
Constitution and laws of the United States. It posted an announcement in a Tennessee newspaper
saying that it would offer its services to anyone willing to challenge the anti evolution statute. John T.
Scopes accepted the offer, after townspeople like George Rappleyea argued that a trial would bring
publicity to the small town of Dayton. Scopes was a 24 year old science teacher and coach of the local
high school football team. He was indicted by a grand jury for violating the Butler Law on May 25,
1925 and the stage was set for Case Number 5232, Scopes v. State.
The main player for the prosecution was William Jennings Bryan, a three time presidential nominee
and former Secretary of State. He was a devout Christian, a prohibitionist, and fighter of evolution. In
a way, Bryan embodied the traditional way of life that many fought to keep during the twenties. For
the defense, there was Clarence Darrow, an agnostic lawyer who was famous for defending the
underdog in a trial. He, in a way, represented

Mental Rotation of Images
Abstract The idea of mental imagery has always been a controversial subject in the field of
psychology. Many psychologists have argued that such a concept is impossible to measure because it
can not be directly observed. Though they are right about this, it is not impossible to measure how
quickly mental rotations of images are processed in our brains. Subjects in this experiment were
presented two shapes simultaneously, via computer screen, and asked to make judgement, as quickly
as possible, as to whether the two shapes presented were the same or mirror images. Two different
shapes were used in this experiment, each given as often as the other. During each trial one shape
remained stationary and the other was rotated with varying ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Overall, when comparing the reaction times of pictures to letters, picture reaction times are said to be
generally greater. In conducting this experiment 20 right handed subjects were used, 10 male and 10
female. Subjects participated in this study either to earn course credit, or for payment of ten dollars per
hour. Three things were concluded from this experiment. First, picture rotations took longer to
perform than letter rotations. Second, there were no sex differences in reaction times for either
stimulus presented, and third, there was a linear increase in reaction times as angular disparity of both
stimuli sets increased (Desrocher, smith Taylor, 1995). As predicted this study did replicate some
previous findings. However, based on the data from this experiment sex differences did not yield a
significant difference in reaction times when presented with the different stimuli. Concurrent with our
data, both of the previously mentioned experiments concluded the same thing; reaction times
increased as angular disparity increased. Although the objectives in each experiment were somewhat
different, there has been a sufficient amount of evidence to support the hypothesis, that reaction times
will increase as the angular disparity of objects increase. Method Participants Ten St. Johns University
undergraduate students participated in this experiment to fulfill their Research Method

Inside Out Theory
The origin of the eukaryotic cell is a concept that is widely debated in the world of science. In 1970,
Lynn Margulis proposed the endosymbiotic theory. More recently, Baum and Baum (2014) came out
with the Inside out theory for the origin of the eukaryotic cell. They refer to the endosymbiosis theory
as the Outside in theory. These two models propose that the eukaryotic cell arose from prokaryotic
origins. Only one of these theories is more parsimonious.
In the endosymbiosis theory, Lynn Margulis proposed the origin and evolution of the mitochondrion
and the chloroplast, two eukaryotic organelles (Bergstrom and Dugatkin, 2016). She hypothesized that
these two organelles were not originally internal components of a eukaryotic ancestor, ... Show more

The inside out theory is more parsimonious than the outside in theory in that it can explain eukaryotic
cell organization by the formation of extracellular blebs that enveloped the proto mitochondria. This
theory describes the whole process of eukaryotic cell formation including the formation of a nucleus
and ER. The endosymbiosis theory lacks the explanation for the formation of any of the other
organelles. It only describes that bacteria was phagocytized and became the membrane bound
organelles seen today. The endosymbiosis theory is not continuous; it makes a lot of jumps in the
formation of the eukaryotic cell in its

Internet Censorship Essay
America Needs Censorship of Cyberspace
In June of 1998 the country was horrified to learn of the death of James Byrd Jr. He was a 49 year old
black man who had been found horribly mutilated after being dragged to death. Authorities have
charged three men with murder and violation of civil rights ( A Fatal Ride in the Night 33). Obviously,
if convicted, these men are guilty of a horrible crime, but what if this crime had been committed after
viewing a racist website? If a person reads an emotionally charged, hate filled website and then

However, those who are against censorship on the Internet believe that it violates their right to free
speech. Because the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) regulates radio and television,
Internet users believe this is the only available forum that guarantees the open exchange of ideas. The
freedom of expression is a right guaranteed to Americans and therefore should not be restricted by the
government.
The First Amendment states, Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or
prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of
the people peaceably to assemble and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.
In fact, Americans have a limited form of free speech. Several types of speech are not protected
including fighting words, commercial speech, libel and slander, and obscenity. The Supreme Court has
three tests for determining what is obscene: (1) whether the average person, applying local community
standards, would find that a work, taken as a whole, appeals to a prurient interest; (2) whether the
work depicts in a patently offensive way sexual conduct specifically defined as obscene in law; and

Essay on Herbert Hoover
Herbert Hoover
Herbert Hoover called it a noble experiment. Organized crime found it to be the opportunity of a
lifetime. Millions of Americans denounced it as an infringement of their rights. For nearly 14 years
from Jan. 29, 1920, until Dec. 5, 1933 the manufacture, transportation, and sale of alcoholic beverages
was illegal in the United States. The 18th, or Prohibition, Amendment to the Constitution was passed
by Congress and submitted to the states in 1917. By Jan. 29, 1919, it had been ratified. Enforcement
legislation entitled the National Prohibition Act (or more popularly, the Volstead act, after
Representative Andrew J. Volstead of Minnesota) was passed on Oct. 28, 1919, over President
Woodrow Wilson s veto.

Called the 15 gallon law, it prohibited the sale of alcohol in amounts of less than 15 gallons (57 liters).
This limited the sale of alcohol to the wealthy. In 1846 Maine passed the first state Prohibition law. By
the mid 1850s 13 states had such laws, but by 1863 all except Maine had repealed them.
Two major temperance organizations emerged in the decade after the Civil War. The National
Prohibition party was founded in 1869 and the Woman s Christian Temperance Union (WCTU) in
1874. Partly through their efforts six states adopted Prohibition by 1890. The strongest force behind
the movement for national Prohibition, however, was the Anti Saloon League, founded in 1893.
Unlike the Prohibition party, it did not put up candidates for public office. Instead it worked for or
against Democratic and Republican candidates, depending on their attitude toward drinking. The
league was successful in getting 33 states to pass restrictive legislation by 1920.
Forces favoring Prohibition represented a reaction against changes that were taking place in the
United States. Rural and small town values were being challenged by rapidly industrializing cities.
Millions of new immigrants mostly Roman Catholics from Eastern and Southern Europe were viewed
as a threat by the Protestant majority. Prohibition was an attempt to reassert what were considered
traditional American values and to force newer members of the

Jesus Legacy
Life to Legacy of Jesus
Jesus, born from a virgin astonished people with his understanding at a young age. He would go on to

Before Jesus was born, he was a miracle Mary was a virgin when jesus was conceived and that she

Pros And Cons Of Dependence On Technology Essay
Technology surround us. Like water in the cream, people are swimming in technology each and every
day. From the radio playing a favourite song to a text received about the results of a game, people use
technology constantly. However, there is a point at which people are overtaken by technology; when
he wave engulfs us and there is no way out. People are becoming more and dependent on technology.
Ever since technology began heavily integrating itself into society, many major uses have developed,
but at a cost that brings on dangerous side effects, both mental and physical, as shown by the potential
Y2k bug, that will continue unless active measures are sought out by those so dependent on
technology. Outside of the classroom and the office, technology is still omnipresent. The internet, like
most advancements and perhaps the best known example of modern technology, began at a military

The Tradition Of The Century Viking Wars
1. Many of the Air Force s customs, traditions, and procedures are traceable to the earliest warriors.
The dining in is one such military tradition that has its roots in the distant past. The pre Christian
Roman Legions probably began the dining in tradition. Roman military commanders frequently held
great feasts to honor individuals and military units. These get togethers were victory celebrations
where past feats were remembered and loot of new conquests paraded. The second century Viking war
lords stylized the format of the victory feast. With the exception of the lookout, or watch, the entire
clan attended these celebrations. Feats of strength and skill were performed to entertain the members
and guests. The leader took his place at the head of the table, with all others to his right and left in
descending order of rank.
2. The dining in custom was transplanted to ancient England by Roman and Viking warriors, and King
Arthur s Knights of the Round Table practiced a form of dining in in the sixth century. The tradition
eventually spread to non military groups, such as the Saxon nobles of the tenth century and the
medieval monasteries. The monks, who followed a more rigid regimen, had their form of dining in as
an integral part of monastic life. The clergy spread the custom to the academies and universities. The
British officer corps, with many graduates of these centers of learning, carried the tradition back to
military units. The dining in became increasingly

Job Plan For A Career Plan
A career is defined by a sequence of positions, opportunities and windows that open and close says
Alain Gosselin, Professor and Associate Director of Executive Education and leaders at HEC
Montreal. This is why it may be useful to have a plan and update it if necessary. Often absorbed in
their everyday life, students have trouble taking time to breathe and plan their week, not to talk about
building a career plan. However, it is necessary to not wait until you are limited to think about it. Even
though it was not appreciated in the past, the issue of labor mobility has now become an asset for
executives. Today, someone who has acquired multiple experiences in several industries will be
valued for his skills. Similarly, someone who has lived in many countries will be the resource person
to support the implementation of a local agency. Contrary to what some may think, having a career
plan does not betray an inordinate ambition. In some cases, it is even the trigger to find a better
balance between family life and professional life. In this sense, a career plan has become necessary

main reason, there were many others. Economic, political, social and moral standards seemed to be
threatened by these newcomers. The immigrants were unfamiliar of the language and customs that we
take for granted in our everyday lives. The fear that gripped the nation was why people reacted so
strongly against immigrants. The people feared change might distort the course of our prospering
country. We did not want to become what those immigrants were fleeing. Many economic changes

This was not a single view, but a reflection of how the entire nativist nation felt. Many political
changes were also being made during this abstract time period. Immigrants were new to our elaborate
and tangled web of politics. In fact many nativist Americans didn t understand our political system all
to well. Many people had the conception that immigrants were too half witted to follow American
politics. After all they were not even born here. Immigrants tended to vote in blocks together. In
document 7, according to magazine writer, E.A. Ross thought that foreigners were underhanded and
corrupt. They polluted everything good about our pure and honest political system. Ross gives a clear
exaggeration on how the foreigners managed to change the outcome of an election. From intimidation
at the polls, ballot frauds, vote purchases, and saloon influence. Also the support of the vicious and
criminal. This is clearly a stretch on the reality of the situation. He contradicts himself at the end by
saying its root is the simple minded foreigner . With all this criminal masterminding to change an
election outcome, its foundation are immigrants who do not completely understand our political
system. Thats fails to make any sense to me whatsoever. Most immigrants wanted a better future for
their families and that was all. Social changes played a huge role in the nativist campaign against
immigrants. Many changes were occurring in our social

Introduction Among various nutritional problems prevalent in India, deficiency of vitamin A is quite
severe and is affecting mainly malnourished children and women. Efforts have been made from time
to time to combat vitamin A deficiency (VAD) using various food stuffs. Vegetables oils are an
essential ingredient in cooking and are the chief source of dietary fat, which is one the essential
nutrient required by human beings. A wide variety of edible oils are available in the market
viz.groundnut oil, soybean oil, mustard oil, safflower oil, sunflower oil etc. under various brand
names. However, these oils are devoid of β carotene and can contribute a little to alleviate VAT. Crude
palm oil, which is an excellent source of β carotene, can be used for blending with commonly used
cooking oils and can help to overcome the deficiency of Vitamin A. Palm oil is extracted from the
mesocarp of the fruit of oil palm (Elaeis guineensis) and the oil is derived from the kernel seed of the
palm (Poku, 2002). Palm oil has a characteristic dark red color because of a high amount of beta
carotene (Lai et.al.,2015; Ng and Choo,2016).Palm oil is commonly used as cooking medium in
Africa, Southeast Asia and parts of Brazil due to its lower cost (Behrman et al, 2005). and its
nutritional and health attributes have been well

My Religion Essay
My Religion
What religion am I? In my life, I have been told many things about my religion. My mother is a
Roman Catholic, while my father is Jewish. I have learned about both religions, and I have tried to
practice both as best I could, but I am now faced with the decision; which one am I? Christians believe
that Jesus is both God and man, incarnation of God, and man gives man two natures, physical and
divined that they are united in one person. Thus the mystery of God becoming a human being, Jesus,
and suffered and died, and Mary (Jesus mother) was the mother of God. God resolved himself to
mankind in 3 ways, as God the father, God the sun and the Holy Spirit. From this we can see that
Christianity is based on the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Judaism is the complex expression of a religious community, a way of life as well as a set of basic
beliefs and values, which is separated in patterns of action, social order, and culture as well as in
religious statements and concepts. The ideal is to remember God in everything one does, through
prayer and keeping the commandments. There are many spiritual practices that the Jewish people
follow as a reminder of their faith and as a way to engage all the senses in awareness of God. Some of
these scared practices include: circumcision, Sabbath, eating kosher foods, and Bar Mitzvah. Of all of
the commandments in Judaism, the brit milah, is probably the one most universally observed. It is
commonly referred to as a bris. Even the most seculars of Jews, who observe no other part of Judaism,
almost always observe these laws. Boys are ritually circumcised when they are eight days old, to
honor the seal of God s commandment to Abraham. A person who is uncircumcised suffers the penalty
of kareit, spiritual elimination. Sabbath is the most important ritual observance in Judaism. It is
primarily a day of rest and spiritual enrichment. The Jewish Sabbath runs from sunset Friday night to
sunset Saturday night. Observant Jewish families begin the Sabbath eve with a special Friday night
dinner. The woman of the house lights candles to bring in

Edgar Allan Poe Is A Well Known American Author. His Pieces
Edgar Allan Poe is a well known American author. His pieces are remembered by their innovative and
ground breaking plots and characters that left readers more disturbed than previous works of literature
did. Poe is often called a pioneer when it comes to his stylistic pessimism and darkness. The people
and hardships that filled Edgar Allan Poe s life leave their mark on many of his greatest works such as
The Oblong Box , The Tell Tale Heart , The Cask of Amontillado , and The Narrative of Arthur
Gordon Pym of Nantucket. The unique life lived by Edgar Allan Poe heavily influenced his short
stories and novel. He used themes, ideas, and concepts in all of his writing that he experienced first

One theme frequently used by Poe in his writings is love. Although he was a dark person, Poe still
loved many people in his life. Before their relationship turned sour, Poe was incredibly grateful for
John Allan (Biography Edgar Allan Poe). Allan had taken Edgar in at a desperate time, and Poe loved
him as a father figure. Poe also loved his wife, Virginia, immensely. He loved Virginia so much that
when she died, he never recovered (Poet Edgar Allan Poe). His bad habits worsened and new ones
developed after her passing (Biography Edgar Allan Poe). Poe gives nearly all of his main characters
someone or something to love. So even though they are murderers or mentally unstable, they have
something that readers can relate to; they love. In The Oblong Box , Cornelius Wyatt loves his
deceased wife so much that he goes to every length possible to allow her casket to stay in his cabin
aboard a ship. Mr. Wyatt is seen sobbing over the box that holds his wife (Poe, The Complete Works
of Edgar Allan Poe 85). Poe understands this love and this pain, because of Virginia s death. In both
The Tell Tale Heart and The Cask of Amontillado , the narrators are murderers who claim to love their
victims. Their victims are described as friends, but something about them leaves the

Interpretive essay for Euthyphro
Euthyphro, a priest in Plato s dialogue, strives throughout the reading to teach his religion to Socrates.
Since Euthyphro portrays himself to be the most intelligent human to mankind, Socrates believes that
he must know every words meaning and that guides Socrates to ask him about a word he is curious
about; piety. Piety is something he is very curious about and asks Euthyphro many questions about it.
Euthyphro gives five intricate versions of piety, but one of them is peculiar and brings to my attention.
On page 7 line a, Euthyphro states that what is dear to the gods is pious, what is not is impious. This
definition poses a valid argument and an invalid argument. The implications I gather from it is that

Feminism in Sor Juana Essay
Feminism in Sor Juana
In Estela Portillo Trambley s play Sor Juana the main character Sor Juana Ines de la Cruz was
considered to be one of the earliest feminists. Sor Juana s eternal struggles to study and unshakable
craving for knowledge and wisdom, from whatever source it may be, support this attribute. In my
opinion however, there are also significant elements of the play that suggest that Sor Juana would not
be considered a true feminist. Of these reasons, there are three major ones that I will analyze. The first
reason is that Sor Juana gave up her struggle for the acquirement of knowledge from books and settled
for reading from religiously accepted writing, essentially giving up what she had been originally
fighting for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This whole progression of events is evidence that Sor Juana was never a true feminist. Although she
was an assertive and determined young woman earlier in life, Sor Juana learned to accept the way the
world was, abandoned what feminist ideals she had had, and devoted her later life to pleasing God and
being a good nun.
Sor Juana Ines de la Cruz, as portrayed in Trambley s play is only concerned with her own desires.
She never shows interest in other women s rights and she never speaks to other
women about the idea of equal rights. She does not encourage her fellow females to fight to attend
colleges and learn. It is like to Sor Juana, there is no such thing as another woman who desires the
same things as she. To me this limits the extent to which Sor Juana could be called a feminist. She
never, in any way, attempted to fight for the rights of anyone beside herself, and for no thing besides
the freedom to study and become learned. It is much more applicable to refer to Sor Juana as one of
the first in a sort of evolutionary linearity of what finally became feminism. At the low end of the
evolutionary spectrum are characters like Sor Juana. She was forthright and assertive about what she
desired, but she lacked the ability or means to organize or extend her struggle to any topic area that did
not directly interest her. When Sor Juana says, My journey

Essay On Athenian Democracy
Is Athenian, Greece s Democracy Truly a Democracy?
Democracy is the government plan that everyone is truly equal in power, no matter what you are like
compared to other people. The creation of democracy is usually credited to ancient Greece, more
specifically Athens, where it was known as demokratia. And yes, they may have not had much in the
way of a leader, as they had a giant political debate with five hundred men instead, (and Pericles l
guess) but today I m going to show you why l think this is wrong.
To begin, when you think democracy, you think that everyone, regardless of race, age, gender, et
cetera, is equal in power, obviously. Well, that may not be true in today s government, children can t
vote till there eighteen, and immigrants have to wait at least ten or so years to vote even if they re
already old enough. Now, that may be hypocritical, but in Greece, it gets better. In ancient Greece, not
only can children not vote till there eighteen, sometimes older, (More on that later) and metics (Fancy
speak for foreigners) couldn t vote at all, even if they were from the same country, as long as they
weren t from Athens, same goes for women for no real reason, and Greece made people who couldn t
pay for others goods become slaves, oh how equal, which couldn t vote. So bringing that all together,

Should Athletes Use Performance Enhancing Drugs Essay
Should Athletes be able to use Performance Enhancing drugs? Shirley Babashoff, is a female
swimmer who participated in The 1976 Montreal Summer Olympic Games. She had won seven gold
medals in total at the end of the games, but she was denied all seven of them as a result of a
government sponsored doping program. Consequently, she is in one of the worst clubs nobody would
want to be in: athletes who were denied a medal at all because they got caught doping. It is important
to make sure kids are looking up to these athletes as role models and not doing the wrong things. The
health risks behind the drugs could possibly be anywhere from a cramp to a heart attack. Using
performance enhancing drugs makes the game unfair and it kills the integrity of the game. Athletes in
all levels of play should not be allowed to use performance enhancing drugs, they will affect the long
term health of the player, damages the integrity and fairness of the game, and endangers others
associated with the person who uses them. Anabolic steroids are artificial hormones that resemble

Minority entrepreneurs have many barriers they have to...
Minority entrepreneurs have many barriers they have to overcome in order to be successful. Some
typical problems they face are limited access to capital, lower equity investments, and less exposure to
entrepreneurship. Minority entrepreneurs are twice as likely to be turned down for traditional lending,
which can discourage them from even applying for a loan. Not only that but they are less likely to be
considered by traditional or angel investors. They also generally live in run down areas, with poor
schooling and less access to successful people. One entrepreneur who has hurdled over all the barriers

There hasn t been a label whose fortunes have been so intertwined with hip hops fortune. However,
they were not the first label to put out rap and not as many revolutionary artists as one might think. So
why do they have an almost mythical status? Def Jam got its status because Simmons recognized the
worth of hip hop music, and saw how it could expand into a cultural revolution. Def Jam s started in
Rick Ruban s NYU dorm, with each Simmons and Rubin only investing a few thousand dollars each.
Their first official release was LL Cool J s I need a Beat. It sold more than 100,000 copies giving
Simmons the leverage he needed to cut a deal with CBS Records for distribution. This deal was the
first of its kind for hip hop. Simmons secured Def Jams future by making clever decisions that seemed
insane at the time, such as pairing Run D.M.C. with Aerosmith on the cover of Walk This Way. The
video of this duo finally got hip hop onto MTV, which had a negative view on rap at the time. Rubin
left Def Jam in 1988, making Simmons the sole head of the company. Simmons also tried his hand in

Current assets and current liabilities are the two major players in working capital management.
Items that can be converted into cash quickly are called current assets. These would include, cash on

that the organization owes. For example, short term notes payable; loans that come due in less than
one year and accounts payable; money owned for goods and services provided to the business.
An unsecured loan, like a credit card is one that is obtained without the use of something valuable like

Borrowers typically must have a good credit score to be approved for unsecured loans like a personal

When a secured loan is taken out, the lender holds the title or deed or places a lien on something of
value, like a car or a home until the loan has been repaid. If the loan is defaulted on, the lender is

The Endurance Of The Human Spirit Essay
African American Endurance

The endurance of the human spirit is always able to be seen through the eyes of the less fortunate. Not
to discredit any other race or say that any race is superior to any other, however the enduring spirit of
African Americans could be seen during the 1800 s and still can be seen shining brightly today. When
one thinks of endurance, one tends to think about sustainability. In this case I am talking about how
long it would it take for the human spirit to broken and be conformed and molded. There are a
plethora of pivotal moments in history that led up to African Americans having the ability to have a
voice in America today, however I think there are four events that shows the progress and that show
how life in the United States changed over time for African Americans. The events are the
Compromise of 1877, Jim Crow, First African American being signed to major league team, and the
end of Jim Crow.
The Compromise of 1877 was a deal made by Republicans as well as Democrats secretly made to
resolve issues stemming from the presidential election of 1876, when both parties came to a
realization that the outcome of the Presidential race hinged largely on disputed returns from Florida,
Louisiana and South Carolina which are at the time the only three states in the South with
reconstruction era Republican governments still in power (Miller, 2013). It

The Lack Of Accessibility Of The American Dream
Imagine living in a perfect world where people can do what they want with their life; a world without
discrimination, where art is just as important as math. Well, it s not going to happen. At least not in the
next century. The lack of accessibility of the American dream is especially apparent in the essay by
Kesaya Noda, The Four Freedoms by Franklin Roosevelt, Veterans Day: Never Forget Their Duty
from the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, and an excerpt from The Newsroom . The American dream is
inaccessible to the majority of people in America. In the story, a hyphenated American, a Japanese
American girl is segregated due
To her race: I can see myself today as a person historically defined by law and custom as being forever
alien. Being neither free white, nor African, our people in California were deemed aliens, ineligible for
citizenship no matter how long the intended to stay here. Aliens ineligible for citizenship were
prohibited from owning, buying, or leasing land (Noda). Due to the stereotypes and racism caused by
being a minority in America, she is limited in what she can do and therefore cannot achieve what is
perceived to be the American dream. Noda expresses how her parents were discriminated against, how
they never had the opportunity to achieve the American dream because other people didn t view them
as equals when she says our parents were painted as hard workers who were socially uncomfortable
and had difficulty expressing even the smallest opinion. Clean, quiet, motivated, and determined to
match the American way; that is us, and that is the story of our time here (Noda). Nobody saw her
parents as fellow humans and because of it, they didn t even have a chance at living the American
dream. What is the American dream? The American dream is what the founding fathers wanted for our
country. That perfect life where nobody had to worry about personal and economical safety. When
Franklin Roosevelt wrote The Four Freedoms , the American dream is what he was writing about. In
his article, Roosevelt states the basic things expected in America: Equality of opportunity for youth
and others. Jobs for those who can work. Security for those who need it. The ending of special
privilege

An Efficient Way Transmit Codes
Throughout time the need for an efficient way transmit codes were essential to success, after World
War I and into the start of World War II American forces was running out of ideas for codes. The USA
had always used the white s soldiers for the code talkers because there were easy to train, and a
abundance of them to choose making them the practice choose for code talkers. Until Philip Johnston,
he was an initiator that worked for a Marine Corps program. As a kid and into his teens he grew up on
a Navajo reservation and his dad was a missionary. Whit all the time that Johnston spent of the
reservation he became familiar with the people and their language. With the use of the Navajos it
grained equality for Native Americans which was not found in the late 1800 s, and soon it gained them
a greater respect by the whites into today s age. In the late 1800 s Indians were seen through the eyes
of the settlers as pests, people who occupy the land that rightfully belonged to the whites. They were
thought of as savages. However this was not true, the Navajo Indians and many other tribes were only
willing to fight for their land, families and the property that they have inhabited for hundreds of years
(Robert A. Roessel, 1). In this time of lack of control, Navajos were overpowered by Americans who
were in position of authority and control. This is because Americans lacked the understanding of the
Navajo way, leading to be fatal for many as they were being transferred, resigned,

A Woman Pouring Milk Essay
A Woman Pouring Milk
In Ways of Seeing by John Berger, the way we have been taught to observe, learn and analyze art is
criticized. Berger describes static images are an appearance that has been taken out of context, out of
its original time and setting. He states that any image encompasses a way of seeing. The way we see a
specific image is based on perspective. A piece of art can be interpreted in various ways; it is relative
to every person. Throughout the text, Berger illustrates the different types of arts. Each one is a perfect
example of the phrase
Use your own interpretation. If looked at closely, one gets different ideas and understandings than
others of the same image.

There are many ways to analyze this painting. One way is to ask why the woman is doing all of the
cooking. Why is she the only one in the room, as if she is isolated specifically so that she may
complete the task at hand? Another way to look at the painting is that she is performing the everyday
duties of a woman s life. A woman s role in society has typically been to take care of the home and
whatever entails. With this view, we see the woman cooking with all her love to satisfy her family. We
cannot understand the painting for a few reasons, we do not know her intentions, why she is cooking
or for whom. Berger talks of reproductions and how it affects different aspects of art. Reproductions
are sometimes different than the original. This poses an immediate problem because the message that
is revealed to us could be altered from intended message because of the differences.
Reproductions pose another problem. The value of viewing art has been lowered. [I]images of art have
become ephemeral, ubiquitous, insubstantial, available, valueless, free. Art is not being valued for its
authenticity and rarity. We now can walk into a corner shop and purchase a copy of A Woman Pouring
Milk. However, this does not allow for the feeling the painter wanted us to feel while viewing the
original; the [E]ffect of closing the distance in time between the painting of the picture and one s own

How Can Rubbish Protect Australian Marine Life
research Journal
Australian Marine Life
Script:
Introduction
Throughout Australian s seas lurks a silent killer. In Australia, rubbish is getting worse with plastic
pollution, it is not only heavily used beaches that get affected with so much rubbish floating in the
water but everywhere else in the world.
The predator is plastic and it s floating in our ocean and it is coming from the coast. This constant
barrier (the equivalent of 136 billion milk jugs each year, estimates a study published in the journal
Science) poses a serious danger to marine life. Animals can get tangled up in this trash or consume it
either because the animals mistake it as prey or because the plastic has been broken down into tiny
particles by seawater.
Research has shown that there is 5.25 trillion pieces of rubbish floating in the ocean and all that
pollution is coming from the shore. Plastic bottles, caps and straws, grocery bags, plastic wraps,
disposable cutlery, coffee cup lids are the main items ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In more recent times, policy changes in many countries have reflected the view that the ocean does not
have an infinite capacity to absorb our waste. However, marine pollution remains a major problem and
threatens marine life in the ocean at all levels. Micro plastics is another issue to our environment as it
is killing and polluting the environment. Micro plastics are bathroom products such as facial

Christian Teachings on Poverty and Wealth Essay
Christian Teachings on Poverty and Wealth
Ever since the beginning of the Christian faith, poverty and wealth have been a big issue. Before Jesus
was born, the rich would use religion to keep the poor away from them. The wealthy thought their
riches were a blessing from God and that their faith and dedication was a reason for God bestowing
them with wealth. They believed that the poor were not true followers of God and therefore suffered
with poverty. They thought that the poor were not as important in the eyes of God. However, Jesus
himself was born in a poor family and he was born in a stable where the animals were kept. For you
know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, ... Show more content on

This was what Jesus was particularly against and believed that this was what would prevent a select
few from reaching heaven. Blessed are you who are poor, for yours is the kingdom of God. But woe to
you who are rich, for you have already received your comfort. Luke 6: 20 and Luke 6:24. He believed
that, You cannot serve both God and money. Luke 16:13. All men and women were equal in God s
eyes regardless of status and wealth: There is neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, male nor female,
for you are all one in Christ Jesus. Galatians 3:26.
In the Bible, Saint James said that the most important people in heaven were the outcasts of society
making them one of the most loved people of God: Has not God chosen those who are poor in the
eyes of the world to be rich in faith and to inherit the kingdom he promised those who love him?
James 2:5. In 1Timothy 6:10, Saint Paul said that For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil.
Through this quote, Saint Paul emphasizes that monetary problems lead to most wrong doings such as
stealing, corruption and gambling. Saint Paul did not condemn money or wealth and neither did Jesus
but said that the love of money was wrong and this is what kept a rich man from entering heaven. He
also said that, Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will
also reap generously.

Social And Social Impact On Human Diversity
Social workers must be able to discuss the human behaviors of different groups of people. The
differences of mankind are what is called in social work human diversity. Council on Social Work
Education states that human diversity can be grouped in subgroups that consist of age, color, class,
culture, disability, ethnicity, gender, gender identity and expression, immigration status, political
ideology, race, religion, sex and sexual orientation; (Zastrow Ashman, 2013, p.11). There are social
systems set up by every country. These systems consist of certain subsystems and social structures.
Social Systems Theory is human behavior in it s most complete terms. This theory is set to create a
membership between the members of society. It works to form a union for families, organizations and
others members of society to work together to solve problems. In some parts of the world the social
systems are not alike but still fall under classes. For example the United States has what is called a
class system. In the United States our classes s are set up based upon your financial status. It is based
upon three levels rich, middle class and poor, but some argue it consist of more. There are the
subsystems that is the rich, the upper middle class, middle class, the lower middle class and the poor.
These systems work together to supply what is needed to the different system that make up the whole
systems. In China there is also a class system of government but it works a little

Flon Disenfranchisement
There are currently only 2 states in the United states of America that has no restrictions on felon
voting rights Maine and Vermont and there are ten states, which includes Florida, Arizona, and
Delaware to name a few that does otherwise. A crime as little as theft can result to a person having one
less human right, which is the ability to vote. However, these laws are unjust; felon
disenfranchisement violates the eighth amendment and the Voting Rights Act of 1965. Some felons
serve for a great amount of time that when they come back to the society a lot has changed to the
extent that they would be clueless on how to go about in it, such that new policies and norms are being
enforced. Voting can also be a helpful coping tool for felons. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

  • 2. My Career As A Licensed Practical Nurse Essay Running head: PERSONAL PHILOSOPHY 1 I have been practicing the art of nursing since 1993. I started my career as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), graduating with a diploma from Long Beach City College in California December of 1992. Compassion and caring were embedded into my philosophy during my LPN educational track. While the Registered Nurse population was being drilled to learn the books and problem solve, the LPN was being taught to learn the books, but to have an excellent, caring and compassionate bedside manner. In 2007 I received my Associate s Degree from Cincinnati State Technical School. In 2010 I was accepted into the College of Mount Saint Joseph Bachelor of Science in Nursing cohort from Saint Elizabeth. In 2013 I graduated with my Bachelors. My career with Saint Elizabeth began in 2004 on the Orthopedic floor. After graduating with my Associates Degree I began to look for a career in a specialty area. I thought I wanted the Emergency Department, but ended up in the Endoscopy Department. I started as a staff nurse and have worked my way up to Assistant Nurse Manager. Definition of Advanced Practice Nursing The advanced practice nurse is a nurse with education that has gone beyond their graduate level degree demonstrating clinical expertise not only in the nurse patient client relationship to achieve optimal outcomes, but also the ability to problem solve using evidence based research. The advanced practice nurse will further the scope of practice by ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Moral Dilemma Of By Stephen Covey MANIPULATED PERCEPTION Generalising, all of our physical senses are stored as subconscious memories the people, objects (even apparitions and the supernatural), etc. which may appear in our dreams are comprised of our knowledge of the external reality. Memory fragments are ubiquitous in all forms of cognitive processing stored memories enable the brain to construct mental content. As a result, an individual s perception will vary according to the memories and knowledge accumulated by the physical senses since birth, and consequently, as Stephen Covey asserts: We see the world, not as it is, but as we are, or, as we are conditioned to see it. Inception explores the moral dilemma of deceiving one s perception via inception ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Whilst in the second dream layer, the emotional trigger I will create something for myself examines the establishment of self identity, further underpinned by the utilisation of first person and high modality. It accommodates Fischer s youth and abrupt inheritance of wealth and power while targeting his emotional proclivity to aspiration and self esteem. Finally, in the third dream layer, the emotional trigger My father doesn t want me to be him targets Fischer s youthful impulses for self worth and independence, and metaphorically implies an alternate pathway, unbound by familial expectations. Fischer has chosen this permanent reality unconditionally and independently, albeit unwillingly, and this choice cannot be disputed. Another example, but much more exaggerated, is epitomised by Mal s germination of a relative reality. The close up shot of the safe with Mal s totem locked inside (01:17:22) is symbolic of her repressed subconscious, in which she willingly chooses to literally and metaphorically conceal the object which allows her to discern between reality and dreams A truth that she (Mal) had once known, but chose to forget. This permanent relative reality which Mal has unconditionally and independently embraced has become an absolute reality. Overall, Nolan demonstrates how germinating propagandistic seeds of ideas can be used to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Parental Dominance And Gender Equality A gender equal society would be the one where the word gender does not exist; where everyone can be themselves (Gloria Steinem). Gender equality is a substantial problem that is everlasting within the society of today, and parental dominance is one of the key contributors in this never ending predicament. Parental dominance is a severe obstacle the protagonists have to overcome as their birth givers take countless amounts of steps to sway their children into the predetermined route at society creates for them. These characters within Saturday Climbing and Boys and Girls try their damndest to fight for justice and to secure what their hearts truly desire. Firstly peer pressure from their parental figures to partake in activities and society imposes on them leads to rebellion and poor life choices. As a result of the immense pressure placed upon both Moira and the Farmer s daughter the ladies lash out and voice their disagreements both physically and verbally. On top of this, the placement of unnecessary aspirations upon adolescence within society can result in a whole world of problems. Forcing these children into having such aspirations can lead to negativity and doubt. Both Moira and the daughter of the farmer face the same predicament through their experiences. Ultimately these protagonists of Saturday Climbing and Boys and Girls Club to control of their own future in their path of destiny. They do not allow others to control what they should say or do. ... • 6. Specific Qualities That Make Your Business Successful 2. Literature review. 2.1 Introduction This literature review will be focused on specific qualities that make your business successful. We will name both personal (entrepreneur s) and company qualities that could help us to achieve our goals. This literature review is divided into 3 parts: Be in the Right Industry, Character (personal qualities) and Company qualities. We will introduce in details content of each of these parts. For this report we have chosen only relevant information and reliable sources. 2.2 Be in the Right Industry The first step to a successful business is a right choice of an industry. This is a start point for any entrepreneur before starting business itself. First of all, we should look on this choice in two ways: 1) do you see yourself as part of this industry, will it be interesting for you and do you see yourself successful in this industry, and 2) how successful is this industry nowadays. According to Mintigo President John Bara, Successful companies tend to be geared towards rapidly growing industries like software and Internet, computers, financial services, and healthcare. Twenty four percent of the companies on the list (talking about the 5000 list of the fastest growing companies according to Inc. magazine) in America are in business services, while 20 percent are in software and Internet. (Rampton), but in the same time you should remember that it does not matter how successful industry is, if you do not see yourself as part this industry. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Sully Film Analysis When Warner Bros. released Sully earlier this year, I thought it looked decent. I assumed Tom Hanks would give a reliably good performance as the titular pilot. I guessed Clint Eastwood would tell the story effectively. I even speculated that the film might garner some attention from the Oscars. While I cannot yet speak to that less assumption, my other feelings about Sully proved true. This film, billed as the untold story behind the miracle on the Hudson, stars Hanks as Captain Chesley Sully Sullenberger, the pilot who landed his aircraft on the Hudson river after a freak accident in 2009. Rather than simply telling the story leading up to the forced water landing, however, the picture chronicles the tumultuous aftermath of what ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I specifically think of the passengers calling their loved ones, finding their fellow passengers alive after the landing and thanking Sully as moments that made me choke up a little. Another highlight is the simple reaction shots that Eastwood shows us of businesspeople in the skyscrapers as they see a plane hurtling toward the city. That was as a simple and understated way to underscore the heroism of Sully s action by making us visualize the alternative. With all that being said, the storytelling here wasn t flawless. Sully takes a somewhat unconventional approach by showing the aftermath of the crash and focusing on the investigation, but for the most part the film felt safe and predictable. Every plot beat and character action, even the effective ones, felt generic and familiar, but in a bad way. I m not sure what I would have wanted the filmmakers to do instead, but they should have done something to switch things up a little. Nevertheless, Sully is still a very good movie. Hanks is quite good and Eckhart does well in his role. The story is economical and moving, even if a little too safe. Sully probably isn t going to be most people s favorite movie of the year, but it has earned a spot on top 10 lists for 2016, even if it s in the lower ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Evolution Of The 1920s The 1920 s were a time of change. New ideas were becoming more readily experimented with and even accepted by large portions of the population. Some of these included jazz music and the fight against the alcoholic prohibition. The radical idea I will focus on in this paper, however, is Evolution. It is a theory that had been around for over half a century before the 20 s but had only more recently caught on in the US. It contradicted the Christian theory of Divine Creation as described in the Bible. This caused many religious fundamentalists to fight against it. They took their battle to the law books, and they were challenged by pro evolution modernists in the Scopes Monkey Trial of 1925. The theory of Evolution was developed by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) was on the forefront of the challenge against the Butler Act. The ACLU is a non profit organization founded in 1920 whose stated mission is to defend and preserve the individual rights and liberties guaranteed to every person in this country by the Constitution and laws of the United States. It posted an announcement in a Tennessee newspaper saying that it would offer its services to anyone willing to challenge the anti evolution statute. John T. Scopes accepted the offer, after townspeople like George Rappleyea argued that a trial would bring publicity to the small town of Dayton. Scopes was a 24 year old science teacher and coach of the local high school football team. He was indicted by a grand jury for violating the Butler Law on May 25, 1925 and the stage was set for Case Number 5232, Scopes v. State. The main player for the prosecution was William Jennings Bryan, a three time presidential nominee and former Secretary of State. He was a devout Christian, a prohibitionist, and fighter of evolution. • 9. Mental Rotation of Images Abstract The idea of mental imagery has always been a controversial subject in the field of psychology. Many psychologists have argued that such a concept is impossible to measure because it can not be directly observed. Though they are right about this, it is not impossible to measure how quickly mental rotations of images are processed in our brains. Subjects in this experiment were presented two shapes simultaneously, via computer screen, and asked to make judgement, as quickly as possible, as to whether the two shapes presented were the same or mirror images. Two different shapes were used in this experiment, each given as often as the other. During each trial one shape remained stationary and the other was rotated with varying ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Overall, when comparing the reaction times of pictures to letters, picture reaction times are said to be generally greater. In conducting this experiment 20 right handed subjects were used, 10 male and 10 female. Subjects participated in this study either to earn course credit, or for payment of ten dollars per hour. Three things were concluded from this experiment. First, picture rotations took longer to perform than letter rotations. Second, there were no sex differences in reaction times for either stimulus presented, and third, there was a linear increase in reaction times as angular disparity of both stimuli sets increased (Desrocher, smith Taylor, 1995). As predicted this study did replicate some previous findings. However, based on the data from this experiment sex differences did not yield a significant difference in reaction times when presented with the different stimuli. Concurrent with our data, both of the previously mentioned experiments concluded the same thing; reaction times increased as angular disparity increased. Although the objectives in each experiment were somewhat different, there has been a sufficient amount of evidence to support the hypothesis, that reaction times will increase as the angular disparity of objects increase. • 10. Inside Out Theory The origin of the eukaryotic cell is a concept that is widely debated in the world of science. In 1970, Lynn Margulis proposed the endosymbiotic theory. More recently, Baum and Baum (2014) came out with the Inside out theory for the origin of the eukaryotic cell. They refer to the endosymbiosis theory as the Outside in theory. These two models propose that the eukaryotic cell arose from prokaryotic origins. Only one of these theories is more parsimonious. In the endosymbiosis theory, Lynn Margulis proposed the origin and evolution of the mitochondrion and the chloroplast, two eukaryotic organelles (Bergstrom and Dugatkin, 2016). The endosymbiosis theory lacks the explanation for the formation of any of the other organelles. It only describes that bacteria was phagocytized and became the membrane bound organelles seen today. Internet Censorship Essay America Needs Censorship of Cyberspace In June of 1998 the country was horrified to learn of the death of James Byrd Jr. He was a 49 year old black man who had been found horribly mutilated after being dragged to death. Authorities have charged three men with murder and violation of civil rights ( A Fatal Ride in the Night 33). Obviously, if convicted, these men are guilty of a horrible crime, but what if this crime had been committed after viewing a racist website? Because the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) regulates radio and television, Internet users believe this is the only available forum that guarantees the open exchange of ideas. The freedom of expression is a right guaranteed to Americans and therefore should not be restricted by the government. The First Amendment states, Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances. Millions of Americans denounced it as an infringement of their rights. For nearly 14 years from Jan. 29, 1920, until Dec. 5, 1933 the manufacture, transportation, and sale of alcoholic beverages was illegal in the United States. The 18th, or Prohibition, Amendment to the Constitution was passed by Congress and submitted to the states in 1917. By Jan. 29, 1919, it had been ratified. Enforcement legislation entitled the National Prohibition Act (or more popularly, the Volstead act, after Representative Andrew J. In 1846 Maine passed the first state Prohibition law. By the mid 1850s 13 states had such laws, but by 1863 all except Maine had repealed them. Two major temperance organizations emerged in the decade after the Civil War. The National Prohibition party was founded in 1869 and the Woman s Christian Temperance Union (WCTU) in 1874. Partly through their efforts six states adopted Prohibition by 1890. The strongest force behind the movement for national Prohibition, however, was the Anti Saloon League, founded in 1893. Unlike the Prohibition party, it did not put up candidates for public office. Instead it worked for or against Democratic and Republican candidates, depending on their attitude toward drinking. The league was successful in getting 33 states to pass restrictive legislation by 1920. Forces favoring Prohibition represented a reaction against changes that were taking place in the United States. Rural and small town values were being challenged by rapidly industrializing cities. Millions of new immigrants mostly Roman Catholics from Eastern and Southern Europe were viewed as a threat by the Protestant majority. The dining in is one such military tradition that has its roots in the distant past. The pre Christian Roman Legions probably began the dining in tradition. Roman military commanders frequently held great feasts to honor individuals and military units. These get togethers were victory celebrations where past feats were remembered and loot of new conquests paraded. The second century Viking war lords stylized the format of the victory feast. The leader took his place at the head of the table, with all others to his right and left in descending order of rank. 2. The dining in custom was transplanted to ancient England by Roman and Viking warriors, and King Arthur s Knights of the Round Table practiced a form of dining in in the sixth century. The tradition eventually spread to non military groups, such as the Saxon nobles of the tenth century and the medieval monasteries. The monks, who followed a more rigid regimen, had their form of dining in as an integral part of monastic life. The clergy spread the custom to the academies and universities. • 18. Job Plan For A Career Plan A career is defined by a sequence of positions, opportunities and windows that open and close says Alain Gosselin, Professor and Associate Director of Executive Education and leaders at HEC Montreal. This is why it may be useful to have a plan and update it if necessary. Often absorbed in their everyday life, students have trouble taking time to breathe and plan their week, not to talk about building a career plan. However, it is necessary to not wait until you are limited to think about it. Even though it was not appreciated in the past, the issue of labor mobility has now become an asset for executives. Today, someone who has acquired multiple experiences in several industries will be valued for his skills. Similarly, someone who has lived in many countries will be the resource person to support the implementation of a local agency. Contrary to what some may think, having a career plan does not betray an inordinate ambition. In some cases, it is even the trigger to find a better balance between family life and professional life. In this sense, a career plan has become necessary refocus on strategic choices. For a long time, I have been passionate about new technologies. Immigration in 19th and 20th Century America During the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, many American nativist groups opposed free unrestricted immigration. Although racism is a main reason, there were many others. Economic, political, social and moral standards seemed to be threatened by these newcomers. The immigrants were unfamiliar of the language and customs that we take for granted in our everyday lives. The fear that gripped the nation was why people reacted so strongly against immigrants. Sor Juana s eternal struggles to study and unshakable craving for knowledge and wisdom, from whatever source it may be, support this attribute. In my opinion however, there are also significant elements of the play that suggest that Sor Juana would not be considered a true feminist. Of these reasons, there are three major ones that I will analyze. The first reason is that Sor Juana gave up her struggle for the acquirement of knowledge from books and settled for reading from religiously accepted writing, essentially giving up what she had been originally fighting for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This whole progression of events is evidence that Sor Juana was never a true feminist. Although she was an assertive and determined young woman earlier in life, Sor Juana learned to accept the way the world was, abandoned what feminist ideals she had had, and devoted her later life to pleasing God and being a good nun. Sor Juana Ines de la Cruz, as portrayed in Trambley s play is only concerned with her own desires. She never shows interest in other women s rights and she never speaks to other women about the idea of equal rights. She does not encourage her fellow females to fight to attend colleges and learn. It is like to Sor Juana, there is no such thing as another woman who desires the same things as she. To me this limits the extent to which Sor Juana could be called a feminist. She never, in any way, attempted to fight for the rights of anyone beside herself, and for no thing besides the freedom to study and become learned. It is much more applicable to refer to Sor Juana as one of the first in a sort of evolutionary linearity of what finally became feminism. At the low end of the evolutionary spectrum are characters like Sor Juana. She was forthright and assertive about what she desired, but she lacked the ability or means to organize or extend her struggle to any topic area that did not directly interest her. The Endurance Of The Human Spirit Essay African American Endurance Bernard Kenan Ashford University HIS206: United States History II Betsy Anderson 10/31/2016 The endurance of the human spirit is always able to be seen through the eyes of the less fortunate. Not to discredit any other race or say that any race is superior to any other, however the enduring spirit of African Americans could be seen during the 1800 s and still can be seen shining brightly today. When one thinks of endurance, one tends to think about sustainability. In this case I am talking about how long it would it take for the human spirit to broken and be conformed and molded. There are a plethora of pivotal moments in history that led up to African Americans having the ability to have a voice in America today, however I think there are four events that shows the progress and that show how life in the United States changed over time for African Americans. The events are the Compromise of 1877, Jim Crow, First African American being signed to major league team, and the end of Jim Crow. The Compromise of 1877 was a deal made by Republicans as well as Democrats secretly made to resolve issues stemming from the presidential election of 1876, when both parties came to a realization that the outcome of the Presidential race hinged largely on disputed returns from Florida, Louisiana and South Carolina which are at the time the only three states in the South with reconstruction era Republican governments still in power (Miller, 2013). • 40. The Lack Of Accessibility Of The American Dream Imagine living in a perfect world where people can do what they want with their life; a world without discrimination, where art is just as important as math. Well, it s not going to happen. At least not in the next century. The lack of accessibility of the American dream is especially apparent in the essay by Kesaya Noda, The Four Freedoms by Franklin Roosevelt, Veterans Day: Never Forget Their Duty from the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, and an excerpt from The Newsroom . The American dream is inaccessible to the majority of people in America. In the story, a hyphenated American, a Japanese American girl is segregated due To her race: I can see myself today as a person historically defined by law and custom as being forever alien. Being neither free white, nor African, our people in California were deemed aliens, ineligible for citizenship no matter how long the intended to stay here. Aliens ineligible for citizenship were prohibited from owning, buying, or leasing land (Noda). Due to the stereotypes and racism caused by being a minority in America, she is limited in what she can do and therefore cannot achieve what is perceived to be the American dream. Noda expresses how her parents were discriminated against, how they never had the opportunity to achieve the American dream because other people didn t view them as equals when she says our parents were painted as hard workers who were socially uncomfortable and had difficulty expressing even the smallest opinion. Clean, quiet, motivated, and determined to match the American way; that is us, and that is the story of our time here (Noda). Nobody saw her parents as fellow humans and because of it, they didn t even have a chance at living the American dream. What is the American dream? The American dream is what the founding fathers wanted for our country. That perfect life where nobody had to worry about personal and economical safety. When Franklin Roosevelt wrote The Four Freedoms , the American dream is what he was writing about. In his article, Roosevelt states the basic things expected in America: Equality of opportunity for youth and others. Jobs for those who can work. Security for those who need it. However this was not true, the Navajo Indians and many other tribes were only willing to fight for their land, families and the property that they have inhabited for hundreds of years (Robert A. Why is she the only one in the room, as if she is isolated specifically so that she may complete the task at hand? Another way to look at the painting is that she is performing the everyday duties of a woman s life. A woman s role in society has typically been to take care of the home and whatever entails. With this view, we see the woman cooking with all her love to satisfy her family. We cannot understand the painting for a few reasons, we do not know her intentions, why she is cooking or for whom. Berger talks of reproductions and how it affects different aspects of art. Reproductions are sometimes different than the original. This poses an immediate problem because the message that is revealed to us could be altered from intended message because of the differences. Reproductions pose another problem.
