Fun Facts About Lego
There are many fun facts about LEGO. According to Unpacking Lego (62), the LEGO Group will add
to the already gigantic heap of Lego bits: 86 [LEGO bricks] for every person on the planet. Among the
many fun facts is that six 8 studded LEGO bricks can be combined in 915, 103, 765 ways. There are
over four billion LEGO Mini Figures in the world. A LEGO builder was able to build a Braille printer
out of LEGO bricks and a Mindstorms set, LEGO s toy line for building robots (Jacques n.p.). Clearly,
the LEGO Group has become a successful toy company. Because of their success, they have made a
big impact on other toy companies and customers. LEGO can maintain their influential status in the
toy industry by continuing to center their business strategies on the LEGO brick. According to
Lipkowitz (12), The story of one of the world s successful toy companies began in 1916 when Danish
master carpenter Ole Kirk Kristiansen bought a workshop in [...] Billund [a town in Germany] and set
up a business building houses and furniture. The name of the LEGO Group and their iconic toy,
LEGO came from the Danish phrase, leg godt which means play well. Ole Kirk Kristiansen chose this
name to emphasize that everything from manufacturing to playing needed to be done well. This was to

This was needed to avoid the problem of toy phenomena, Beanie Babies and Tickle Me Elmo of
getting replaced by newer toys in the toy industry. They developed the LEGO System, which entailed
them to only produce the LEGO bricks or something related to it. Because of this structured system,
there would be no need to manufacture and develop new products despite the change in children s
preference in toys. The minor changes in toy manufacturing would save the company from spending
more than expected (Robertson

Swot Analysis For Boeing
The Boeing Company SWOT Analysis
1. Strengths
1.1 Global Market Leader
The Boeing Company ( Boeing ) has established itself as the global market leader in the commercial
airplanes industry. It is also one of the two manufacturers in the commercial airline industry to
manufacture 100+ seat airplanes.
As a global market leader, there exists a strong market demand for Boeing s products. In 2013, it
extended its market share leadership with an industry record of 648 deliveries, reaching historic highs
in delivery totals for the 737, 777 and 787 models. Boeing has also managed to secure an additional
1,355 new net orders in 2013, which extended its record backlog to 5,080 airplanes worth $347 billion
. In 2014, Boeing is estimated to have about 43% share of the commercial aircraft market and is
currently leading Airbus in the number of new commercial airplane orders .
In addition, Boeing has consistently rejuvenated its existing product lines by improving and ... Show

The market liberalization in Europe and Asia is enabling Low Cost Carriers (LCC) to expand and gain
market share, exerting a downward pressure on airfares. In European Airline industry, the market
share of LCC has increased from 17% in 2005 to 23% in 2013 . The LCC capacity on departing flights
grew by 6.8% worldwide from 2012 to 2013. The growth is especially remarkable in the emerging
market, with a growth rate of 17.7% in Middle East and 28.7% in Asia .In order to survive in this
competitive environment, many airlines are turning towards drastic cost cutting measures such as
downsizing their fleet size or their planes or cancelling their existing airplane orders. The possible
slowdown in global demand and potential cancellation in orders for commercial aircrafts may hurt
Boeing s revenues and profit margins in the long

Women played a major role in the fight against inequality...
Women played a major role in the fight against inequality and discrimination against female gender
for generations. Throughout the 20th century and up to WWI, most women saw their primary roles as
being housewives and mothers, and less than 30 percent of women worked outside the home. That
was the context for Demi Hansen s life but during WWII she became a Rosie the Riveter. Women had
no self representation other than from their husbands and fathers, until WWII when opportunity s were

Anthony Bourdain s No Reservations
Anthony Bourdain was a chef, a writer, a TV host, and a celebrity. He taught people that brunch was a
scam, that putting pen to paper is as much a noble act as it is a narcissistic one, that you really only
need one outfit when you travel, and that selling out when you don t have to is one of the fouler things
a privileged person chooses to do. But more than that, Bourdain taught people that one of the most
reliably good parts of humanity is getting the chance to learn and succumbing to it. Bourdain, who d
cut his teeth in the frat house ambiance of the kitchen, didn t really begin traveling the world until he
was in his 40s. After decades working as a chef and a struggling novelist, Bourdain found unlikely
fame when a piece he wrote for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After all, the Bourdain who would eventually go on to host No Reservations and Parts Unknown as
the ideal globe trekker is energized by new experiences. He was fearless and generous, and seemed to
be powered by the same thing that so drained him in A Cook s Tour. But his initial reaction to travel
illuminates something about Bourdain s philosophy to life that will later become so instinctive to him
that it ll become invisible: Interacting with the world is not a pleasure, but it is a privilege. The most
honest way to do it is humbly. When it comes to how most people travel and dine Bourdain s two
main methods of interaction passivity is not a popular attitude. Why spend so much money on an
unpleasant experience? When you eat at a restaurant, it s likely that you ve picked the spot from many
options and will pick from its menu to best flatter your tastes. The way we travel is similar: We pick
experiences by what looks most appetizing, expecting to be delighted, catered to, and satiated by what
comes across our table. We are the guests. Foreign lands are our

Leonardo Da Vinci Research Paper
Abstract: This is an article on the man of the Renaissance, Leonardo Da Vinci, and his mathematical
works. Leonardo Da Vinci was more than just an Italian painter. He was also an architect, astronomer,
geologist, mathematician, engineer, an even a musician. He is all of this and more. Leonardo Da Vinci
is one of the most fascinating people in history.
Key Words: Leonardo Da Vinci, Geometry, Mona Lisa, Golden Ratio, Platonic Solids
1 Introduction
Leonardo Da Vinci can be described as the man of the Renaissance as he was the one to inspire the
term Renaissance. This expression is derived from the Renaissance ideal of believing that science and
art were intertwined disciplines rather than separate ones. Him along other leaders of Renaissance ...

The drawing however, does allow one to notice Da Vinci s love and interest for geometry. After
Leonardo studied Euclid and Pacioli s Summa, he began his own mathematical research. This research
leads him to finding mechanical solutions of squaring the circle. Squaring the circle was the most
famous mathematical problem during the Renaissance period, which noted that a human body could
be symmetrically inscribed within both a circle and a square. Various artists and architects before
Leonardo Da Vinci attempted to illustrate Vitruvius theory, but it wasn t until Da Vinci s Vitruvian
Man drawing that it was done without failure. The Vitruvian Man drawing (Fig. 6) shows a male
figure adopting two different positions within the same image where the navel falls in the exact center
of the circle. The figure s active arms and legs suggest movement and liveliness, while thin lines on
his form show the significant points of the proportion scheme. Leonardo even went on to writing a

The Pros And Cons Of The GC Blockade
GCC Blockade Qatar recently underwent a huge diplomatic change. On June 5, 2017, Saudi Arabia,
Bahrain, UAE, and Egypt cut their political ties with Qatar and are currently surrounding the country.
Normally, people would assume that the blockade only has negative impacts on the people and the
economy of a nation, but there are many positives of the event that we should also note.
The public was in a nationwide panic when the news of the blockade first surfaced, but the
government quickly assured the people that they had a plan. For example, Ahmed bin Jassim AlThani,
Qatar s economic minister, told CNBC that the blockade was an opportunity that led to opening trade
routes with Turkey, Kuwait, Oman, and others. This was a chance to form new ties and strengthen old
ones; this positive outlook kept the Qatari people satisfied and ready for ... Show more content on

government had to pay 38.5 billion dollars in recovery from the financial attack. Not to mention, the

My Special Place Of Voyageurs National Park
My special place is a campsite called Day Maker 23 located on a small island on Namaken Lake in
Voyageurs National Park. Voyageurs National Park is located in Orr Minnesota just south of the
Canadian border. It is also located on the Eastern edge of the Canadian Shield. An exposed area of
Precambrian stone. My island does not have a specific name, but it appears to be a break off of
Sweetnose island in the Blind Indian Narrows located at 48°26 33.7 N 92°46 33.0 W. Day Maker 23 is
unique in that its location causes a division in current going through the narrows causing stronger
currents towards the west side of the island. This was a phenomenon that we often had to deal with as
the current would push our boat against the only dock on the island located on the western point. The
only campsite on the island was also located on the western point, but was significantly more elevated
than its rocky shoreline. This elevation, coupled with the island s location caused for a constant breeze
to blow over the campsite (Appendix D). Day Maker 23 had a very rocky shoreline characterized by
many of the islands within Voyageurs National Park. These rocks vary in size, with some rocks having
large cracks with small caves (Appendix C). The rocks around the shoreline were typically light grey
in color with some variations in texture and crystal size. (Appendix B) I do not remember the rocks
being particularly sandy, however, I have also not been to the site in four to five years. These

talking about right? We look up to people that we ve known for as long as we can remember, they are
all that we know, all that we have. We don t truly start to see how much someone means to us until
they re gone, my Aunt Belen was my best friend, she s flying high with my uncle right now, they both

Petroleum, The Most Valuable Commodities
Crude oil, also known as petroleum, is among the most valuable commodities in the world. It is vital
to many industries, accounting for just over thirty three percent of the world s energy supply. Crude oil
is a naturally occurring substance that can be refined into several products, including diesel fuel,
motor oil, and gasoline, among others. Though prices of crude oil in years passed were typically high,
they fluctuate daily in response to a host of factors, including world wide rates of production and
consumption, environmental issues, overall global economic health, and sociopolitical developments
in other nations that purchase oil. These are, furthermore, factors over which neither government nor

The potential changes that BP should have been scanning for include technological and legislative
changes, changes in the global economy, and changes in the physical environment. BP should have
been aware, for example of any changes or trends in technology. Successful monitoring is then
determined by a company s ability to accurately interpret the data collected from scanning. In this
example, if BP had detected a technological change or trend, it would be important for them to have
an understanding of exactly what the technology is and what it is capable of. Next, the company must
be able to project how the detected changes and trends will impact business. A new technology could
be a potential opportunity for BP or a threat if implemented by a competitor. And finally, once the
changes and trends have been identified, it is important for the firm to determine the significance and
timing of the event. With a change in technology, BP would need to assess whether or not
implementation would give them a competitive advantage. The threat of new entrants to the industry
in the context of the BP oil spill was likely pretty low. Aside from the traditional challenges of
entering an industry as a new comer, new offshore leases were placed on hold, and a moratorium
subsequently placed on offshore drilling below 500 feet by the federal government. This would have

The Political Environment Of The Philippines
Political Environment To begin, the political environment of the Philippines should firstly be
addressed. In the modern day Philippines, they have established a multi party democracy which has an
elected president along with its legislature. Their democracy is set up exactly the same as ours in the
United States. They have the framework of where the president is both the head of state as well as the
government in general. Similarly their system is composed of the three independent branches which
are the legislative, executive, and judicial branches. Under the leadership of the president, the
executive branch makes the decisions for the government/country body as a whole; Congress the
Senate and the House of Representatives, controls the legislative branch; and the Supreme Court, held
as the highest judicial body they have, is vested within the courts of the Philippines. Within their
country contrary to ours, they hold elections every three years instead of our two. These elections have
been held on the second Monday of May since 1992. The winners of these elections begin their time
in office on the following June 30th. Although the Philippines have a democracy, not all of the regions
within it have political power. Within the local government s cities, provinces, municipalities and
barangays, some regions merely exist just for the use of administrative purposes. (Doing Business In
the Philippines, n.d.).

Analysis Of The North American Market Richardson
In the North American market Richardson s has a strength in dominating particular regions such as
Kansas, Texas and Oklahoma where they receive 75% of their companies sales. This allows them to
have lower shipping costs and possibly lower advertising costs in the areas because they have regular
customers who are returning to buy items because Richardson s strong brand equity can bring trust
and low searching costs. Having most of their sales in a particular region is also a disadvantage for the
company because if something were to happen in that region that slowed down income for the farmers
in the area (drought or disaster) Richardson s sales would be in trouble. This is because the company
relies on a particular region for sales and the company is not well diversified within other regions of
the United States, which creates risk within such a specific market. Richardson Manufacturing has
seen a cumulative increase in net sales of 11% (Sheet 1, L4) within the domestic market which is great
because it shows their sales have increased over the past 4 years. At the same time, there is a lot of
volatility in the net sales as the growth percentage goes fro 2% to 19% and eventually back to only 7%
growth. This lack of consistent growth may mean a market that is changing or relying too much on
external factors and so Richardson s team should be aware of the variability. The cumulative net profit
increase of about 50% (Sheet 1, cell L18) shows that Richardson s net profit on

Comparing The Frog Prince By Robert Coover And Joyce Thomas
It has been debated on whether or not the transformation from a slam on a wall to a kiss shows female
empowerment in the various versions of The Frog Prince. Modern writers have expressed their stance
on how the kiss functions within the story to transform characters and deliver them to their happily
ever after. Other implications of the kiss would be it s ability to serve as a means of empowerment for
women and whether it aids to overcome the patriarchy. Robert Coover s and Joyce Thomas s versions
of The Frog Prince offer two contemporary perspectives on the transformation of the prince and
princess and the resulting happily ever after. Robert Coover s The Frog Prince is a reinforcement of
the gender/sex role expectations because the main female character is dependent on the man for her

An Exploration Of Budgeting And Forecasting
Summary
This paper will be an exploration of budgeting and forecasting and how they are determined and why
they need to be re evaluated at the organization I work for. Furthermore, the hope is to uncover some
of the underlining causes that are the drivers that trigger the re evaluations in our organization as well
as discover ways to mitigate those factors.
Background
Like any other business we need to lower our costs, we apparently have difficulties creating a realistic
budget, at least initially, and also have great difficulties with accurately forecasting. Are budgeting
problems for new products could be due to the fact that prospective costs on new parts take a while to
get properly entered into the system, combine that fact with a 12 month projection, times the number
of parts missing cost information from our budget document and there will be quite a difference in
actual costs at the end. By using a bill of materials for as a guide for new products, items with over $5
per item actually cost difference can be off by as much as 80% overall.
We are not any better at forecasting or predicting are sales revenue. It is not as conservative as it
should be, we may be taking only the optimistic view or we do not have a good understanding of our
place it the market. I m not sure what s driving it. However, I do not know that we buy inventory,
ramp up staffing, add plants, and equipment solely based on these projections, so we need to do this
much better. Also, by using a bill of

Edward Taylor And Anne Bradstreet
Throughout this class we have read different types of literature from many different authors. Some of
the material I truly enjoyed and some of it not so much. I really enjoyed the Native American literature
that we started out with in the beginning of the semester. I think the Native Americans are beautiful
people who appreciated the land more than most. The Native Americans were smart people who used
short stories such as The Chief s Daughters and Coyote and Bear to warn their readers of dangers or
teach them moral lessons. I also enjoyed authors such as Edward Taylor, Anne Bradstreet, and Thomas
Paine. I did not like reading William Byrd s material, chiefly because he was rude and spoke nastily of
the Native Americans. It personally offended me that he thought their belief of afterlife to be gross and
sensual .
I have read material from many different authors and although I enjoyed most of them, I have to say
that my two favorites were Edward Taylor and Anne Bradstreet. Both of these authors are Puritans,
and it is easy to tell when reading their pieces. Puritans typically write in simple language, and always
refer to God. Edward Taylor created a powerful analogy in his piece, Upon a Spider Catching a Fly.
The analogy that he describes is an analogy between people and Satan. The spider represents the devil,
who is manipulative and wants to trap people in his web of sin. The wasp represents someone who is
strong in their faith and does not let themselves get trapped in

Reality and Illusion
Postmodern literature draws attention to its status as fictional to break down barriers between reality
and illusion. The boundaries between real and fake are no longer clear, because identity is socially
constructed. In White Noise and Nights at the Circus, characters such as Sophie Fevvers and Jack
Gladney have fabricated personas, and they exaggerate these roles so that their audiences cannot tell
the difference between what the characters perform and their true nature. There are many Matryoshka
principles in Nights at the Circus, adding many layers of fiction to the story. This emphasizes the
constructed identities of the characters by the authors and the characters themselves. This essay will
examine how performance, mise en abyme, fabulation, and hyperreality all indicate how identity is
constructed. In Nights at the Circus and White Noise, the audience is not supposed to be able to tell

How To Write A Personal Narrative Essay
Personal Narrative Living for God
As I was driving into the church parking lot I had to take a deep breath. After leaving another
frustrating day at school and then going to work right afterwards, I needed to calm myself down. I
looked in the rear view mirror one more time to make sure I looked halfway presentable. I fixed my
wind blown hair by pulling it back in a high ponytail and put on some Burt s Bees lip balm before
exiting the car. I grabbed my Bible and notebook and locked the doors. As I walked towards the youth
building a wave of comfort washed over me.
I love the feeling I get every time I step into the youth room at my church. It s a reassuring feeling

We walk into the room, giggling and laughing at absolutely nothing. Then out of nowhere I hear, Oh,
my gosh in a deep, thick, country accent that carries for miles. I look over and I see a tall, dark and
handsome fellow, with a John Deere hat on the top and well worn boots on the bottom. Jason, I
thought to myself. I turned and had to laugh out loud, even before he says anything, because he always
makes me laugh.
As we goof around waiting for things to get started, Michael, the worship leader of the youth band,
starts playing and that is a sign for everyone to get to his or her seats. We start singing and I realize
that my mind is somewhere else. I stop and ask God to help me regain focus because I know I need to
concentrate on Him. I try to settle my mind, but it just keeps wandering. I take one more deep breath,
and as the last song is ending, I plead with God to be with me tonight and help me focus on Him.
Our youth pastor, Lenny, gets up on the stage and I take one last deep breath and as I settle into my
chair, it happens. As Lenny is teaching, he says some of the most memorable words I have ever heard.
In his most passionate voice he describes a conversation he had with God. I was talking to God one
night, telling Him I wanted to do amazing things. Things that had never been done before. And He
told me that, in order to do that, I would have to

Milton’s Paradise Lost Essay examples
Milton s Paradise Lost has been praised as being the greatest English epic of all time, most stunningly
in its author s depiction of the parents of humanity, Adam and Eve. How Milton chose to portray the
original mother and father has been a focus of much criticism with contemporary readers. One of the
main subjects of these comments is in reference to Eve, who, according to many, is a trivial character
that is most definitely inferior to her mate. Nonetheless, many do not recognize that, after the fateful
Fall, she becomes a much more evolved character. When Eve is introduced to the storyline of the epic,
her character is shallow and extremely undeveloped, meant simply for display. She is quite firmly set
as being inferior to her mate ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He does this because the scene happens in the past and therefore he uses her to discuss it rather than
confusing the reader with a flashback type scene. He also has Eve relate what happened to prove that
Eve must indeed be beautiful if she herself was taken by her looks as she discusses how she pined
with vain desire (IV, 466) for the image of her reflection. In fact, Eve s beauty is discussed repeatedly.
For example, when Satan first sees the human couple, he is overtaken by Eve s beauty and submissive
charms (IV, 498). Milton even goes so far to stress her beauty and charms as to have her stun Satan
himself with it. Actually, as Satan is on his mission to seduce Eve into eating the apple, her beauty
overtakes him.
If chance with nymphlike step fair virgin pass, What pleasing seemed, for her now pleases more, She
most, and in her looks sums all delight; Such pleasure took the Serpent to behold This flowery plant,
the sweet recess of Eve Thus early, thus alone; her heavenly form Angelic, but more soft and feminine,
Her graceful innocence, her every air Of gesture or least action, overawed His malice, and with rapine
sweet bereaved
His fierceness of the fierce intent it brought.
That space the Evil One abstracted stood From his own evil, and for the time remained
Stupidly good, of enmity disarmed, Of guile, of hate, of envy, of revenge. (IX, 452 466)
Thus Milton creates an Eve

Keats Use Of Figurative Language
In the poem When I Have Fears That I May Cease to be, John Keats reveals his overbearing fear of
dying young. What if he never gets to feel the passions of true love? What if he never gets to write the
mountains of books that he wishes to write? What if he never gets to experience the fame that he so
desires? Fear of not being able to complete our goals before we die is a fear that lurks in the dark
crevices of all of our minds. We must all find a way to fight this fear. Most people do it by blocking it
out completely, but not Keats. Keats confronts his fear full force by announcing it to the public.
Through the use of figurative language, such as repetition, imagery and personification, Keats leads us

Readers of Keats s story begin to realize that the fear of a young death is a demon that haunts us all.
This was Keats s goal as a romantic writer: to connect with the reader, to portray his ideas in the form
of art, and to make the reader see from his point of view. With his use of colorful figurative language,
such as repetition, imagery, and personification, Keats accomplishes his goal. The reason that Keats is
so successful in painting a clear picture is because he uses his imagination to write (King). By writing
his poem in the form of a Shakespearean sonnet consisting of three quatrains (King), Keats, like any
great artist, clearly states the point he is trying to make. Apprehension of a young demise is a plague
that haunts us all. In When I Have Fears That I May Cease to be, Keats takes our hands and reassures

The Wife Of Baths Tale And Prologue And The Franklin s Tale
In The Wife of Bath s Tale and Prologue and The Franklin s Tale, the central theme is the relationship
between man and woman. There are different views of this relationship or marriage in these two tales:
either the woman has the power in the marriage granted from her husband, or the husband and wife
grant each other power in the marriage so neither dominates. The Wife of Bath begins her prologue by
explaining that she considers herself an authority of marriage due to her experience ; the Wife of Bath
says, Experience, though no authority/Were in this world, would be enough for me/To speak of woe
that married life affords;/For since I was twelve years of age, my lords,/Thanks be to God eternally

could have in a lifetime (20 23). The Wife of Bath goes on to say that God gave men and women

What Is The Validity Of The Turing Test
Alan Turing was a famous British mathematician and computer scientist who was determined to prove
that machines at some point (possibly sometime in the future) would be able to surpass humans in
intelligence levels. In order to prove this true, he created what became to be known as, The Turing
Test. This test was basically to see if a computer could trick a person into believing that it was human.
It would be asked a series of questions, which would be compared to responses of the human. It was
designed so that one could judge the intelligence level of the computers responses. Turing believed
that if a human could not tell the difference between another human and a computer, then it served as
proof that a computer is equally intelligent as a human. Due to a large ... Show more content on

This objection basically states that there is no machine out there that can feel or think in the way that
humans can when it comes to emotions, feeling pleasure, depression, embarrassment, and other
similar qualities, feelings, and emotions. Therefore due to machines lacking these feelings there is no
way that they can be more intelligent than humans. It is explaining a rejection of the validity of Turing
s test. It takes it a step further by saying not only can these machines not express its thoughts and/or
feelings, but that one can not even be certain that a machine thinks, unless you can be that machine
and feel oneself actually thinking. Basically the only way that we could possibly know if the machine
has these thoughts or feelings would be if one could be the actual machine itself. Then it would
require some form of self consciousness. This is following the solipsist point of view, which is the
theory that the self is all that can be known to exist. However, this would not only hold true for
machines, but for humans as well. Then, the only way to be certain that a particular person is thinking,
would be to be that particular

Budgeting Within the Business Organization
The budgeting process and the end product, the budget, comprise two essential elements of
multinational management: planning and control. Planning is the primary function of the budgeting
process and the result, the budget, provides the basis for subsequent monitoring and control of
activities. For a multinational firm, with geographically dispersed subsidiaries to coordinate and
control, an ineffective planning and control system can be disastrous.
For the typical multinational firm, the budgeting process is the primary period of planning at both
corporate and subsidiary levels. During the planning phase, the subsidiaries establish short term goals
and objectives, devise appropriate operating strategies, and prepare a budget document for ... Show

This stage s effectiveness I believe is equal to the planning stage. The company has to be realistic in
examining the separate departmental budgets to look for discrepancies within the budget. If a
company does not successfully identify all problem areas then the company may have less capital than
aware of. On the other side of that coin if the company does not evaluate the different units correctly
and has overlooked capital, there could be more capital that can be utilized for new programs and
units.
#61656; Evaluation – is the stage when the company monitors and assesses the budges performance.
The budget committee should be taking a look at variances and impacts internal and external to see
effects on the budget. This is the stage for reflection.
(FMBP, UN, 2002)
I believe that this stage can be effective but usually is not. This occurs generally when upper
management examines the prior budget for how well the company did as a whole. In my experience
this is when upper management overly criticizes departments for coming in over budget making the
unit leaders fix the issue next time to prevent getting chewed out (Mayberry, 2006). This phase can
contradict the control phase by pressuring unit managers to doctor their budgets to stay out of trouble
or gain a certain bonus. Overall I deam hindsight is always 20/20, and when looking back at what was

Aeneas Definition Of Justice Essay
Plato, in the Republic, seeks to define justice while showing how justice is worthwhile and good in
itself. To him, justice is mainly centered around the idea of fulfilling appropriate roles. He describes
what justice is like in both the city and the individual, and appeals to human psychology through this
analogy. In Book IV, Plato completes this analogy by introducing justice within the individual. He
claims that justice in the city parallels justice in the individual. Justice for the individual, according to
Plato, is about the fulfillment of appropriate roles and the relationships among them. The question is if
Aeneas lived a justly life or was he unjust. The focus I will have will be how Aeneas was considered
just off the battlefield by not being distracted and progressing his people into the golden era . ... Show

Plato s definition again reuttered says, Justice as an individual is about the fulfillment of appropriate

that his people died but again it shows here that he in modern terminology, sucked it up . In Book I it
says, So, ran the speech. Burdened and sick at heart, He feigned hope in his look, and inwardly
contained his anguish. (Aeneid I). This quote showed that even though Aeneas was saddened by the
falling of his people that he had to hold it in and keep strong to continue to guide and comfort his
people in this time of disbelief and discomfort. There is clear evidence that Aeneas was just in his
actions but there are reasons that he could be considered unjust but the evidence is substantially

due to illness , Stanhope sees straight through his act and describes him as another little worm trying
to wriggle home . Stanhope a true war veteran believes it s wrong and cowardice to fake illness in an
attempt to get out of fighting It s a slimy thing to go home if you re not really ill isn t it . This shows
us how good of a leader Stanhope really is as nobody else managed to see through Hibbert s pretence

An Analysis of Political Elitism Essay
An Analysis of Political Elitism
It is easy to believe that the middle class working individual, whether he or she be white collar or blue
collar, wields little political power except for during an election. It is also easy to think that we don t
have true democracy; political representation elected by the people, for the people, and controlled by
these people. This is an ideology that is often worn out. Instead, these elected representatives are
controlled by political élites: high ranking political gladiators , the media, lobbyists, and, though it
may not seem evident, big business. It is, in essence, commonly believed by most. Some reasons why
political élites at times dominate government and who these groups are will be examined in ... Show

From a sociological point of view, elitism deals with class structures. Marx describes these class
structures and what makes certain individuals High Class or important . The separation of ownership
from the management and control of industry (Penguin Books, 1994, p.58). Marxists see political
élites as bad guys theoretically, it is because they represent a small portion of the population and are
believed to control most of the political power and money. However, Plato s Republic offers a
different standpoint. In his work, political élites are seen as good guys wise, virtuous, and
knowledgeable. It is difficult to define elitism, however. The above definition, first and foremost,
deals with financial status. What s more, Plato s opinions and definitions of elites are blatantly out of
date. Though political élites are predominately high class and wealthy, it does not explain interest
groups and lobbyists. The men and women in these groups are, on the whole, not particularly rich or
important . What makes them truly important or powerful is that they alter public opinion (The media
works in the same way, however this will be discussed later). The idea that elites shape public opinion
applies to all elites as well. Not to mention the fact that the majority of Canadians have negative
attitudes toward political elites. As a common sense definition we see the actual people who are elites
as fat cats : Rich, privileged, with no concern for the

Restorative Justice Examples
The video clips expressed countless examples of Restorative Justice in various situations and its
benefits.
The first video clip talks about the acknowledgement of victims. It asked the question of whether the
justice system was interested in rehabilitation or punishment. In addition, there was acknowledgement
of the social connection. Restorative justice makes the criminal face the victim , to possibly allow the
families of the victims get peace.
The video clip that entitled the Continuum draws much of its attention to the concept of respect and
disrespect. The speaker stated that he believed respect or lack of respect was at the heart of victim
trauma. He stated that victims want vindication by revenge. Furthermore, this video clip

Additionally i used the room to practice my presentation utilising the actual equipment I would use on
the day to make sure a was familiar with the it and how it worked.
Be able to deliver a professional presentation
I pitched my presentation knowing who the audience was and preconceived assumptions of their
knowledge and understanding, as mentioned above. Feedback from the audience at the end of the
presentation suggested the content level was appropriate. I used multiple sources of data (ILM
Handouts / Internet) to verify that the presentation was factually correct.
I ensured whilst I made my presentation that I spoke clearly and steadily. I have a tendency to talk
quickly so I paid particular attention to controlling the speed of my voice. I also ensured I maintained
eye contact with my audience and tried not to focus just on one individual.
Please see attached Presentation.
Be able to evaluate own ability to make a professional presentations
The feedback I received was varied. The planning, structure and content of the presentation was good
and well structured. Based on this feedback I was happy with the flow and how the presentation came
across from this perspective. As a result I don t think I would change how I went about creating the
presentation. I do a lot of planning and project work as part of my day to day job so structuring it I

This allows them to have lower shipping costs and possibly lower advertising costs in the areas because they have regular customers who are returning to buy items because Richardson s strong brand equity can bring trust and low searching costs. Having most of their sales in a particular region is also a disadvantage for the company because if something were to happen in that region that slowed down income for the farmers in the area (drought or disaster) Richardson s sales would be in trouble. This is because the company relies on a particular region for sales and the company is not well diversified within other regions of the United States, which creates risk within such a specific market. Richardson Manufacturing has seen a cumulative increase in net sales of 11% (Sheet 1, L4) within the domestic market which is great because it shows their sales have increased over the past 4 years. An Exploration Of Budgeting And Forecasting Summary This paper will be an exploration of budgeting and forecasting and how they are determined and why they need to be re evaluated at the organization I work for. Furthermore, the hope is to uncover some of the underlining causes that are the drivers that trigger the re evaluations in our organization as well as discover ways to mitigate those factors. Background Like any other business we need to lower our costs, we apparently have difficulties creating a realistic budget, at least initially, and also have great difficulties with accurately forecasting. Are budgeting problems for new products could be due to the fact that prospective costs on new parts take a while to get properly entered into the system, combine that fact with a 12 month projection, times the number of parts missing cost information from our budget document and there will be quite a difference in actual costs at the end. Some of the material I truly enjoyed and some of it not so much. I really enjoyed the Native American literature that we started out with in the beginning of the semester. I think the Native Americans are beautiful people who appreciated the land more than most. The Native Americans were smart people who used short stories such as The Chief s Daughters and Coyote and Bear to warn their readers of dangers or teach them moral lessons. I also enjoyed authors such as Edward Taylor, Anne Bradstreet, and Thomas Paine. I did not like reading William Byrd s material, chiefly because he was rude and spoke nastily of the Native Americans. I have read material from many different authors and although I enjoyed most of them, I have to say that my two favorites were Edward Taylor and Anne Bradstreet. Both of these authors are Puritans, and it is easy to tell when reading their pieces. Puritans typically write in simple language, and always refer to God. Edward Taylor created a powerful analogy in his piece, Upon a Spider Catching a Fly. The analogy that he describes is an analogy between people and Satan. The boundaries between real and fake are no longer clear, because identity is socially constructed. In White Noise and Nights at the Circus, characters such as Sophie Fevvers and Jack Gladney have fabricated personas, and they exaggerate these roles so that their audiences cannot tell the difference between what the characters perform and their true nature. There are many Matryoshka principles in Nights at the Circus, adding many layers of fiction to the story. This emphasizes the constructed identities of the characters by the authors and the characters themselves. This essay will examine how performance, mise en abyme, fabulation, and hyperreality all indicate how identity is constructed. In Nights at the Circus and White Noise, the audience is not supposed to be able to tell whether the characters are performing a certain role. Instead, they tend to step into a role, as if this is their true nature, but they know what is adorned. In Nights at the Circus, when Walser meets Fevvers, he runs through diverse processes of belief and disbelief as he talks to and observes her. Milton’s Paradise Lost Essay examples Milton s Paradise Lost has been praised as being the greatest English epic of all time, most stunningly in its author s depiction of the parents of humanity, Adam and Eve. How Milton chose to portray the original mother and father has been a focus of much criticism with contemporary readers. One of the main subjects of these comments is in reference to Eve, who, according to many, is a trivial character that is most definitely inferior to her mate. Nonetheless, many do not recognize that, after the fateful Fall, she becomes a much more evolved character. When Eve is introduced to the storyline of the epic, her character is shallow and extremely undeveloped, meant simply for display. She is quite firmly set as being inferior to her mate ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He does this because the scene happens in the past and therefore he uses her to discuss it rather than confusing the reader with a flashback type scene. He also has Eve relate what happened to prove that Eve must indeed be beautiful if she herself was taken by her looks as she discusses how she pined with vain desire (IV, 466) for the image of her reflection. In fact, Eve s beauty is discussed repeatedly. For example, when Satan first sees the human couple, he is overtaken by Eve s beauty and submissive charms (IV, 498). Milton even goes so far to stress her beauty and charms as to have her stun Satan himself with it. Actually, as Satan is on his mission to seduce Eve into eating the apple, her beauty overtakes him. If chance with nymphlike step fair virgin pass, What pleasing seemed, for her now pleases more, She most, and in her looks sums all delight; Such pleasure took the Serpent to behold This flowery plant, the sweet recess of Eve Thus early, thus alone; her heavenly form Angelic, but more soft and feminine, Her graceful innocence, her every air Of gesture or least action, overawed His malice, and with rapine sweet bereaved His fierceness of the fierce intent it brought. That space the Evil One abstracted stood From his own evil, and for the time remained Stupidly good, of enmity disarmed, Of guile, of hate, of envy, of revenge. What if he never gets to feel the passions of true love? What if he never gets to write the mountains of books that he wishes to write? What if he never gets to experience the fame that he so desires? Fear of not being able to complete our goals before we die is a fear that lurks in the dark crevices of all of our minds. We must all find a way to fight this fear. Most people do it by blocking it out completely, but not Keats. Keats confronts his fear full force by announcing it to the public. Readers of Keats s story begin to realize that the fear of a young death is a demon that haunts us all. This was Keats s goal as a romantic writer: to connect with the reader, to portray his ideas in the form of art, and to make the reader see from his point of view. With his use of colorful figurative language, such as repetition, imagery, and personification, Keats accomplishes his goal. The reason that Keats is so successful in painting a clear picture is because he uses his imagination to write (King). By writing his poem in the form of a Shakespearean sonnet consisting of three quatrains (King), Keats, like any great artist, clearly states the point he is trying to make. There are different views of this relationship or marriage in these two tales: either the woman has the power in the marriage granted from her husband, or the husband and wife grant each other power in the marriage so neither dominates. The Wife of Bath begins her prologue by explaining that she considers herself an authority of marriage due to her experience ; the Wife of Bath says, Experience, though no authority/Were in this world, would be enough for me/To speak of woe that married life affords;/For since I was twelve years of age, my lords,/Thanks be to God eternally alive,/Of husbands at the church door I ve had five (Lines 1 6). • 26. What Is The Validity Of The Turing Test Alan Turing was a famous British mathematician and computer scientist who was determined to prove that machines at some point (possibly sometime in the future) would be able to surpass humans in intelligence levels. In order to prove this true, he created what became to be known as, The Turing Test. This test was basically to see if a computer could trick a person into believing that it was human. It would be asked a series of questions, which would be compared to responses of the human. It was designed so that one could judge the intelligence level of the computers responses. Turing believed that if a human could not tell the difference between another human and a computer, then it served as proof that a computer is equally intelligent as a human. Due to a large ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This objection basically states that there is no machine out there that can feel or think in the way that humans can when it comes to emotions, feeling pleasure, depression, embarrassment, and other similar qualities, feelings, and emotions. Therefore due to machines lacking these feelings there is no way that they can be more intelligent than humans. It is explaining a rejection of the validity of Turing s test. It takes it a step further by saying not only can these machines not express its thoughts and/or feelings, but that one can not even be certain that a machine thinks, unless you can be that machine and feel oneself actually thinking. Basically the only way that we could possibly know if the machine has these thoughts or feelings would be if one could be the actual machine itself. Then it would require some form of self consciousness. This is following the solipsist point of view, which is the theory that the self is all that can be known to exist. However, this would not only hold true for machines, but for humans as well. Then, the only way to be certain that a particular person is thinking, would be to be that particular ... Planning is the primary function of the budgeting process and the result, the budget, provides the basis for subsequent monitoring and control of activities. For a multinational firm, with geographically dispersed subsidiaries to coordinate and control, an ineffective planning and control system can be disastrous. The budget committee should be taking a look at variances and impacts internal and external to see effects on the budget. This is the stage for reflection. In my experience this is when upper management overly criticizes departments for coming in over budget making the unit leaders fix the issue next time to prevent getting chewed out (Mayberry, 2006). To him, justice is mainly centered around the idea of fulfilling appropriate roles. He describes what justice is like in both the city and the individual, and appeals to human psychology through this analogy. In Book IV, Plato completes this analogy by introducing justice within the individual. He claims that justice in the city parallels justice in the individual. Justice for the individual, according to Plato, is about the fulfillment of appropriate roles and the relationships among them. The question is if Aeneas lived a justly life or was he unjust. In Book I it says, So, ran the speech. Burdened and sick at heart, He feigned hope in his look, and inwardly contained his anguish. (Aeneid I). This quote showed that even though Aeneas was saddened by the falling of his people that he had to hold it in and keep strong to continue to guide and comfort his people in this time of disbelief and discomfort. However, Plato s Republic offers a different standpoint. In his work, political élites are seen as good guys wise, virtuous, and knowledgeable. It is difficult to define elitism, however.
