Why I Want To Go To America Essay
When I was told that you were giving me one million dollars to donate to three charities of my
choice, I was honored and surprised. Lately, in America you only see greed. If someone had one
million dollars, they would keep it for themselves. You helped me see that there could still be
kindness in America. This was very smart of you to realize that America needs help. Usually
people only see the good parts in America, but you saw the bad, and want to help. If you look at
the underside of America, there is child labor, poverty, unsafe food factories, and women s
suffrage. Not everyone in America is making it. Average earnings for American workers are less
than $500 a year (BGE). We have gotten some help from muckrakers when they exposed the
situation. However, we now need to come together and help get the underside of America fixed. It
was pretty tough to choose which organizations to donate to, but after careful consideration, I feel
that I have made the three choices that will help America the most. I have decided that... Show more

Jane Addams statement really inspired me especially when she stated, Women would fulfill their
traditional responsibilities for their own children (DOC C). A woman should have the right to do
what men can do; they are no different than men, so they should be treated the same. A woman s
simplest duty is to keep her house clean and wholesome and to feed her children properly, while
living in a tenement house (DOC C). If a woman can take care of her children and she can cook
and clean, then she should have the right to be active in her American citizen community. Women
should be treated the same as men so it is unfair for them to be treated any differently. Women help
to get their children ready for the future, so why can t they be active in their future? After all, the
children are our future and it is highly important to invest our time, money, love and attention to

Apple became a well diverse company with the leadership of Jobs they had 15 product lines
which were slashed down to 4 categories desktop and portable Macintoshes, for consumers and
professionals. (Pg3) Not only did they have 15 different products which placed them in several
different industries but they tried to depict themselves as Worlds greenest lineup of notebooks that
was energy efficient and used recyclable materials (Pg 4)
Rivalry
The rivalry in this industry is high with the four top Pc vendors Hewlett Packard, Dell, Lenovo,
and Acer accounted for 53.6 percent of worldwide shipments. (Pg 5) Even though it was Apple
who founded the first personal computer it was IBM that brought them into the conventional lives
of society. Within this time period there were a lot of mergers and acquisitions making rivalry
amongst firms even greater as every time this occurred these merged companies would have more
market share and more capital to help their business.
Threat of substitutes
A lot of these products were similar in many ways and allowed consumers to do pretty much the
same things. For example a Laptop had a camera as did an iPad as well as a Ultra book, an
iPhone and an iPod. All of these products could also go on the internet and have programs like
Microsoft office. Competitors also had the same attributes so I would say threat of substitutes is
high.

Partnering With The Holy Spirit Essay
Partnering with the Holy Spirit In the book, The Spirit of the Disciplines, Dallas Willard
presents some spiritual disciplines within the eleven chapters, an epilogue, and two appendixes.
He titles Chapter Nine with, Some main Disciplines for the Spiritual Life, and begins the
chapter by saying, A discipline for the spiritual life is, when the dust of history is blown away,
nothing but an activity undertaken to bring us into more effective cooperation with Christ and
his Kingdom. In the next section of the chapter, Willard asks the following questions, What are
the particular activities that can serve as disciplines for the spiritual life? And which should we
choose for our individual strategy for spiritual growth? To answer his own question, Willard
poses that we need not try to come up with a complete list of disciplines. Nor should we assume
that practices will have a strong claim to be on every list. Nevertheless, Willard does indeed list a
few including: solitude, silence, fasting, frugality, chastity, secrecy, sacrifice, study, worship,
celebration, service, prayer, fellowship, confession and submission. He also goes on to say that
there are those who are too used to the better things in life and poses that grocery shopping,
banking and other business in the poorer areas of the city are effective spiritual disciplines because

Alina Tugend Multitasking Can Make You Lose Summary
Alina Tugend is a writer and columnist for the Business section of the New York Times. She has
also had articles featured in the Los Angeles Times, the Atlantic, and Family Circle. In two thousand
and eight, Tugend published an article in the New York Times titled, Multitasking Can Make You
Lose...Um...Focus. In this article, Tugend spends time talking about different types of research and
their impact on today s society to be able to multitask, when instead they should be focusing on one
single taskat a time. She claims that after the nineteen nineties, we all multitask with no regards to
query. We allocate the majority of our time going back and forth between different tasks, and even
worse, multiple tasks at the same time. Tugend s article shows the reader that although multitasking

There is evidence that when we multitask, we tend to lose our focus on the tasks at hand, create
more unnecessary stress on ourselves, and we lose the ability to think properly as the result of a
decline in cognition. Although Tugend has a good case against multitasking by utilizing research
as her basis, she does contradict herself at times. Particularly when she talks about how people tend
to go back and forth from multiple tasks, and how it affects their thought processes and focus.
Tugend says that these people may think that they are handling all the tasks at the same time when
in reality they are not. However, she negates the following. Losing focus is contingent upon what
the tasks might be. You cannot say that multitasking loses focus in one sentence and then turn
around and say it simply depends on what the tasks are. When Tugend discusses the stress
increase, she refers to a study where people who were being impeded upon during the first few

The Mockingbirds in To Kill a Mockingbird, by Harper Lee...
Walt Whitman s 1859 poem Out of the Cradle Rocking Endlessly depicts the mockingbird as a
symbol of innocence that chants or sings of fond memories from the past. By contrast, Harper
Lee s famous novel To Kill a Mockingbird, published in 1960, written almost a century after
Whitman s poem, portrays the mockingbird as innocent but as a fragile creature with horrific
memories memories of discrimination, isolation, and violence. Harper Lee wrote her novel,
which is rooted in the fictional town of Maycomb, Alabama, in the Deep South, during a time of
segregation and discrimination, social issues which can be seen not only in the novel but were
witnessed by Harper Lee in her own life. While Lee does insert bits and pieces of her own life...

She was part of a southern family related to the confederate general Robert E. Lee. Her father
was a lawyer and newspaper editor. Harper Lee attended Huntington College and then the
University of Alabama as well as attended Oxford University as an exchange student for one year
(McGovern 2). Lee entered law school briefly but soon left for New York to pursue a writing
career. Harper Lee s father, similar to Atticus, Scout s father, had defended two black men who
were accused of killing a white storekeeper; both men, father and son, were later hanged (Big
Read). Although the Civil Rights movement had begun and society was making some positive
changes such as Brown versus Board of Education (1954) which held that the racial segregation
of children in public schools violated the Equal Protection Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment
(PBS). While these events were creating positive changes in society and in the government, real
life injustices such as Amasa Lee s case and the Scottsboro trials still remained. It was events like
these which helped to inspire Lee to write a book that brings to light the social issues of the day
such as social class distinction and, of course, racism. However, the novel also establishes the idea
that not all were guilty of heinous behavior and ideology some, like the mockingbird, were
innocent. To understand the importance of the theme of the mockingbird in Lee s novel, one must

Thinking About Diversity and Inclusion
Thinking about diversity and inclusion
1. What are the dimensions of cultural diversity? Identify and briefly explain the dimensions by
referencing both textbooks.
The dimensions of cultural diversity consist of in the diverse cultures in the world. The diversity is
the different race, gender, age, ethical, language, religion, education, and more. The geographic
region and the social roll are the result of the cultural diversity in the world. The diversity is
variable and depends of the human s need and it has changed through human evolution. Countries
that were pioneer on a cultural growth got behind and others countries progressed in art,
technology, and science over the time. The immigration also interferes in the cultural diversity....

The Issue Of International Relations
The issue of (in)security is increasingly present in academic debates and in national and
international political agendas. In the light of this scenario, many different theories in the field of
International Relations aim to explain (in)security in the modern world. One of the most influential
approaches is the theory of securitization , developed by the Copenhagen School , in which the
work of Ole Wæver, Barry Buzan, and others stand out. Moving away from traditionalist views on
security, this theory proposes that an issue will be considered an existential threat to be countered
not because it possess an objective danger in itself but because it was shaped/constructed, through a
process called securitization, to be perceived in that... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After that, an investigation about the development of the construction of the drug dealer as a threat
within the Brazilian context will be held. Finally, the analysis will focus on the security policies
adopted by the government of Rio de Janeiro in relation to the drug issue. Here, it will be given
more attention to the phenomenon of the militarization of civil public space, and particularly of
security apparatus, as everyday forms of state coercion. In this sense, the model of community
policing called UPP (Pacifying Police Units) implemented in slums will be explored, and so the
military invasions that preceded the establishment of these units.
Like many states in Latin America, Brazil suffers from high rates of urban violence and an
ongoing militarized conflict against illegal drug dealing. Influenced by the North American
conservative politics in the 70s, the war on drugs has recycled the internal enemy from the image
of the subversive that is a result of the cycle of military dictatorships to the drug dealer , and has
created conditions for the intensification of a real bellicose security agenda to contain the problem
(Batista and Lopes, 2004, p. 8).
Regarding the security policies, since 2008, the Security Bureau in Rio de Janeiro initiated the
establishment of a Police Pacification Units program (UPP) in the slums. Based on the Colombian
experience of MedellГn, the public security

Each helicopter has its own transport team. The transport team may consist of a pilot, registered

Physicians on fight crews have posed a lot of controversy as to whether a physician as a crew
member improves the outcome of the patient. Each crew member must undergo many education
courses as well as hands on training before being employed by HEMS. Safety is the most important
aspect to HEMS. Emergency medical helicopters have an alarming history of crashes. The National
Transportation Safety Board conducted a study to determine the major causes of helicopter crashes.
Important areas of flight risk are the pilots, the mechanics of the aircraft, crew training,
maintenance, weather conditions, time of day, and landing sites. The study showed that poor
weather conditions posed the greatest risk for helicopter crashes. Since, the study many
improvements have been made to improve the crash rate. It has been said that the sole decision is
set on the pilot as to whether it is safe enough to take the flight or not. The pilot must consider the
weather conditions, aircraft maintainence, and crew readiness. Medical personnel cannot make the
decision to take the call. Medical personnel should not tell the pilot the nature of the call, because

Relationship Between Natural Environment And Human Exchange
The relationship between the natural environment and human exchange is one that has been an
ongoing battle of overconsumption and a regulation on natural goods. Human interaction during the
Industrial Revolution spanning from the nineteenth and twentieth century has several contrasting
principles. In the nineteenth century, the excuse of overconsumption was for industrial economic
profit. Humans believed that over using natural resource was acceptable due to the belief that
natural resources were God s gift to man, and God would replenish the natural goods. However, the
overuse of natural goods results in smog, pollution, and water contamination which has various
damaging health effects. In the 20th century, humans were more than aware of the effects that over
consumption produced, but neglected the environment for their own social status and profit.
Nevertheless, during the end of the 20th century, scientific evidence led to widespread awareness of
the effects occurring to the environment, prompting people to make policies to change and protect
the environment. This caused humans to create a relationship with the government and restrict
overconsumption. Ultimately, the first Industrial Revolutionduring the 19th century, the overuse of
technology wasn t perceived as harmful to the environment. However, in the second Industrial
Revolution during the 20th century, over consumption had external effects that were harmful to the
environment, triggering intrusion from the

Alison Wright s Influence On War
In this essay I am going to focus on how Alison Wright has photographed women affected by war
and conflict and how she has approached, created the story and how she has achieved this.
Wright is known internationally, from California, based in New York, a documentary
photographer, author and public speaker who works for National Geographic and travels the
world for the purpose of documenting endangered cultures, exile countries, people in poverty,
and issues that concern the human condition. After she survived an accident in 2002 in a Jungle
remote road in Laos where a bus she was on at the time was hit by a truck, Wright featured in
Outside magazine , Yoga Journal and National Geographic Adventure which showed her story of
survival. Alison set up Faces of Hope Fund what helps provide medical care and education for
children in the world who are in crisis or poverty.
Wright was influenced by work of photographers such as Lewis Hine, Eugene Smith, Dorothea
Lange, Sebastio Salgado and Henri Cartier Bresson. However, Wright s own documentary style

Who Or What Is The Target Of The Resistance (And How Is That Target/Person/People Depicted);
For the most part, the people who were targeted by resistance were slave owners and people who
promoted white supremacy, which was primarily white southern men. In addition, while these
people targeted by resistance may not start out as being seen as bad men, they usually are depicted
as bad men at the onset of resistance. In Amistad, multiple targets existed depending on who the

Yes, most of the people who resisted were African Americans, but these African Americans were
mostly either running away on the underground railroad or were freed slaves who joined the
abolitionist movement to advocate for slave freedom and aid the underground railroad.
Additionally, there were whites that aided African Americans in resisting slavery but these men
and women were few in number. In addition, while people did run away from slavery on the
underground railroad in the south, slavery didn t only exist in the south like these movies
portrayed. The north had slaves just like the south, and while it may not have been as brutal,
slavery and its cruelty lived in the north just as it did in the south. Before most of the northern
states outlawed slavery, most of the resistance either happened in the area of Florida (or other
Spanish and/or Native American owned areas) towards the beginning of slavery and it wasn t until
later in the timeline of slavery that Africans began running to the north. Even once in the north,
former slaves/ runaway slaves still constantly feared that they would return to slavery, as a result
of the Fugitive Slave Act, so resistance would also continue in the north, eventually causing the
resistant slaves to run all the way to Canada for freedom. The targets of resistance was slavery. In
the real world analysis of the slave era, many of the whites who were resisting weren t fighting to
rid the united states of white supremacy, only the oppressive and inhuman actions that occurred
under slavery. Even Abraham Lincoln, the man who is frequently attributed with legally ending
slavery, didn t do so to promote equality of the races or even for the purpose of freeing slaves.
Lincoln did so in order to gain allies in the civil war in order to increase their armies numbers to

Essay about The Diagnosis- Personal Narrative
The Diagnosis Personal Narrative
One fateful day at the end of June in 1998 when I was spending some time at home; my mother
came to me with the bad news: my parent s best friend, Tommy, had been diagnosed with brain
cancer. He had been sick for some time and we all had anxiously been awaiting a prognosis. But

The ceremony was to take place at Baiting Hollow Boy Scout Camp. Everything was coming
together and the next weekend the healing would take place. We were all anxiously awaiting the
day. It finally arrived, and as my mom and I drove down the small, dirt, boy scout camp road,
you could almost slice through the tension in the car. I walked up the path, my heart echoing the
faint sound of a beating drum. As we came upon a clearing I began to feel nervous and a bit

His head is nearly bald with a few patches of the deep, dark hair I remembered that the

What Role Does Gravity Play In The Formation, Structure,...
Gravity plays a very major role in the formation, structure, and evolution of stars and their
planetary systems. Planets are kept in their orbit around a star rather than falling into the star due
to gravity and their velocity. In Earth s case, the pull of the sun s gravity and Earth s velocity keeps
it orbiting around the sun. The planets are traveling at a velocity that is perpendicular to the starthey
are orbiting. Therefore, if the star (sun) was not pulling them in using gravity, the planets would
simply continue in a straight line. This is where Newton s first law come into effect that states that
an object will remain in uniform motion unless acted on by an external force. The star pulling the
planets in is the external forces acting

Biographical Summary Of Bram Stoker s Dracula
Biographical Summary
Abraham Stoker was born on November 8, 1847, in Clontarf, Ireland, although when his name
was to appear on the front cover of the critically acclaimed gothic horror novel, Dracula, fifty
years later, he would have long since adopted an abbreviated version of his name, Bram. When
Stoker was born, he had two older siblings, and would later get into the habit of living with four
younger ones. (Novels for Students 23). During his formative years, he came down with a
serious illness, and was confined to his bed for the first seven years of his life. He read a great

While in the company of Henry Irving, Stoker met with some intriguing people, one of which
supplied him with Eastern European vampire lore. Over the next several years, while he was
working on Dracula, Stoker conducted a decent amount of research in order to make his literary
masterpiece more authentic. After its publication in 1897, Dracula was generally well received,
but it never earned much money within Stoker s lifetime. He failed at his attempts to turn it into
a theatre production, and the book was not adapted into successful films until over two decades
later. After 1997, life for Stoker and Irving started to go downhill. They lost Lyceum Theatre,
and Henry Irving died in 1905. Stoker became gradually lamer and sicker over the years, but he
did not concede his writing career. His 1903 novel, The Jewel of Seven Stars, achieved
popularity and success. He also wrote The Lady of the Shroud, published in 1903, and Famous
Imposters, published in 1910. The Lair of the White Worm was published in 1911 when Stoker
was very ill, and hence, this became one of his stranger novels. On April 20, 1912, Bram Stoker
died, supposedly of general paresis, but his legacy of Dracula lived on, well into the twenty first

Black Boy Language Essay
The entirety of the novel Black Boy by Richard Wright is composed of scenes that are meant to
strike the audience. Whether it be through a stark use of pathos or a technical use of logos, each
scene is calculated. However, two scenes tend to stick out in the mind s eye. They specifically
offer an extra sense of reality to the already raw story that is presented. As a well known author,
Wright employs language in order to get his stories across. And considering that language can
take many different meanings, I found two instances or scenes in which language played a vital
role. It impacted the author as a child in ways that may have led to his writing style as it is in this
novel, therefore it helped to shape him as a writer. These scenes also... Show more content on

Each experience had a sharp meaning of its own (45). Wright continues to explain how every
experience he has from this point onward has a deeper meaning that he would have never seen
before. Just as there are negative consequences that come with experience as seen in the tale of
the noisy kitten there are just as many positive outcomes. In this case, Wright sees the world
from a different angle and can, therefore, interpret it from different sides. Learning from his
mistake of speaking poor language to his grandmother, he vowed to learn the meaning of all the
words he would speak. As a writer, each word choice is then a reflection of his new outlook. He
utilizes phrases such as breathlessly anxious , flitting fireflies , pervading smell , pitying chuckle ,
and saliva stimulating smell (45) immediately following his resolve. Each of these holds an intense
imagery that is able to connect the audience to the author. By spending time outlining the clarity of
all the experiences around him it is clear to the reader that the author experienced a change in
thought and view. As an individual he had the power to decide which language he chooses to
employ in his writing, but he knows that without knowing its true meaning it holds power over
him. His writing style in this instant stands to show that he has followed through with his word and
has learned to use language in a way that evokes emotion and

How I Can Become An Ideal Project Manager
Since I have no experience as a project manager, according what I have collected from above
literatures and what I have perceived in my own point of view, I have the following ideas of how I
can become an ideal project manager.
1. To be a leader
During the past years of working, I have always played the role of team member but never tried to
lead a team to actually accomplish a project, so the most challenging trait for me to learn as a
project manager is to be a leader.
I now know that a project leader should do a lot more than plan, organise, control, coordinate,
monitor and closure. While such activities are all very important and must be correctly done, those
functions are not enough for a good leader to accomplish. That is to say, ... Show more content on

3) Leadership means dealing with risks
During the process of a project, various kind of risk is inevitable because of uncertainties. There is
always possibility for threats which may harm the success or completion of the project.
As a leader, it is best to eliminate the risk before it really cause any loss of the project, which
requires prospective and forward thinking. They are always looking for better ways to take actions
on potential risks. And when risk really happens, leaders should be able to take the procedure to
minimize the adverse effect of a possible loss, which requires fresh information at any time. The
leader should be competent to abstract useful information and find the most efficient ways to deal
with risks.
4) Leadership means the ability to motivate those around you
To motivate people to realize their maximum potential, a good leader can is get all the team
members to perform enthusiastically, confidently. As people around you are from different cultures,
motivating implies listening, trusting, empowering, coaching, enable them to work discreetly and
creatively.
2. Capable of continual and effective monitor
Control and monitor are an important part of every project manager s job, in this part, the project
manager should always think about how to keep the project on track, on time and within budget.
To be honest, I am not a very persistent man, so keep

The Surface Stress on the Microcantilever
Mapped meshes are made according to requirements as it gives user control over size and shape
and deformation of the mesh in all regions The surface stress on the microcantilever surface can be
calculated from the observed microcantilever deflection using Stoney s equation Where О”Пѓs is
the differential surface stresses on the surface of the microcantilever, is the Young s modulus, is
the Poisson s ratio r and h are the radius of curvature and thickness of cantileverbeam
respectively. For a two layer piezoresistive microcantilever, the relationship between the surface
stress and the relative change in resistance ∆R/R for a piezoresistor is given by Where 1, 1 are
the Young s modulus and thickness of the polysilicon while 2, 2 are the young s modulus and
thickness of piezoresistive, whereas T is the distance from bottom to top of the microcantilever
beam that contain the piezoresistive and is the gauge factor of piezoresistive sensor, although
above equation applies when polysilicon and piezoresister both are different here [4]. The surface
stress associated with the deflection of micro cantilever is commonly calculated using Stoney s
formula, which is simply relates an induced substrate curvature to a surface stress. Piezoresistive
microcantilever deflection process involves the embedded of a piezoresistive material such as
doped polysilicon on the top surface of the microcantilever to measure the stress change, while the

These characteristics are not just desirable to the young girls who want to be as powerful and

Identity And Morals Throughout Adolescence And Young...
Just like how one must discover and establish their identity and morals throughout adolescence and
young adulthood, one must find their voice through writing as well. It is a difficult feat to find the
proper sum of humor, seriousness, casualness, pretentiousness, or satire. This is something that
everyone struggles with as they routinely take pento paper. Of course, this is all extremely
subjective, but until recently my writingvoice sucked. As I climbed the academic ladder, clumsily
bouncing from teacher to teacher, I heard many varying opinions about my writing. It is not light
hearted enough , this is too light hearted, Emily , this needs more commas , use less commas and
just shorten the sentences , this is awkward , this is eloquent , and try harder next time. I
questioned every word that I used, contemplated every sentence structure that I wrote, and second
guessed every idea that I had. I eventually became a writing robot that would methodically piece
together papers that were well received, but I was never proud of. I promised myself that as I
entered college, I would change my writing practices, no longer consider only my teacher as the
audience, and use my voice. The following that ensues is my initial attempt, successful or not, at
following through with my promise.
For the first project of this class, I faced a familiar foe: rhetorical analysis. This was a juncture in
my writing path, where I could continue down the path of mechanical meticulous

The Pursuit Of Happiness In The Contemporary Era
The pursuit of happiness is a common zeitgeist feature that occurs across all of the humanities.
The way individuals pursue this happiness varies depending on how the time period has
influences them. This zeitgeist feature is especially apparent during the Contemporary era.
There are many advancements in the area of technology, causing one to detach from reality. The
entertainment industry allows for seriousness to be critiqued. There is a sense of paranoia
stirred up by the Cold War. The contemporary era also deals with the idea of fragmentation,
which stems into different areas of life. Each of these elements relate to one s pursuit of
happiness during the contemporary era, as well as past and future eras. Cinema in the
contemporary era symbolizes the area in which it is born because of the high dependence on
technology (Kuhns). The film 13 Conversations About One Thing provide visual evidence of
this idea the pursuit of happiness and how disconnectedness plays a role in this pursuit. In the
beginning, Troy is very confident and lives in the moment. He makes a comment about having
to earn happiness, and he says that he has indeed earned happiness. Troy considers his pursuit of
happiness to have stemmed from hard work and success. This relates back to the drive for
economic prosperity within the corporate world is from the previous era. However, after hitting
Beatrice with his car, he is riding in a cab, and the cab driver tells him to smile because he looks so

Linda Loman
Being successful takes on so many different meanings to a variety of people. Some people may
see success as how wealthy one is, where others view success as happiness. In Arthur Miller s play
Death of a Salesman, Miller implies, through Linda Loman, the human understanding of being
wealthy and popular equals success; however, this view is completely arbitrary to what success
actually is. Miller hints that the Lomans see success as being well liked and rich; having this
mindset is the Lomans downfall. Linda explains to Willy, her husband, I think if [Biff] finds
himself then you ll both be happier. Willy then remarks, How can he find himself on a farm? Is

Linda tries to explain to Willy that a job like a farmhand is a way for Biff to find himself, that
there is more to job that makes less than just $35 dollars a week. Ironically Biff would feel
content with a farm job if Willy did not push for a job in town. Similarly, Linda chastises Biff for
not settling down. In the time period that this play takes place, the stereotype was to live out the
American dream; have a family, get rich, own a home, something Biff has not done. Miller
makes this evident when Linda proclaims that Biff cannot look around his whole life, Biff
replays that he cannot take hold of some kind of life, Linda remarks, Biff, a man is not a bird, to
come and go with the springtime, (39). With the idea of success of having wealth and binging
well liked, being the complete opposed can cause some issues. Biff is a wonderer and a outdoors
type of person, where Linda and Willy believe in having a steady job in town. Biff is trying to
find success but is not finding it because he is trapped in the mindset of his parents. Being popular

Indeed, he advises that Athens was a much more developed powerhouse, where today s democracy

participated in politics. However, Brand also acknowledges elements of democracyin both city

In the case of Sparta, the ecclesia , or the apella were the eligible voting public (Larkin, n.d.) Only
Spartan free men of adulthood were able to vote, and adulthood was granted on the Spartan s
30th birthday. Additionally, women, immigrants and unequals such as Helots were ineligible to
vote (Brand, 2010.) In this instance we see the basic semblance of a voting public, but, as Brand
(2010) states, whilst the apella met once a month to discuss issues, their scope of influence was
severely limited. The Spartan political model was a hierarchy of two kings (historically from
two ancient ruling families) whose balance was kept in check by three (later) five Ephors who

Mark Whitfield Essay
Mercurial guitarist Mark Whitfield got the jazz world s attention during the 90 s, when the NY
Times considered him The Best Young Guitarist in the Business . Despite speaking a vocabulary of
his own, his style is still influenced by his mentor George Benson, the one who recommended him
to the organist Jack McDuff.
Mark not only has collaborated with jazz legends such as Art Blakey, Dizzy Gillespie, Ray Brown,
Stanley Turrentine, Ray Charles, and Jimmy Smith, but also with recent stars like Sting, Chris
Botti, Diana Krall, and Roy Hargrove.
Incursions on soul jazz, hard bop, and fusion can be easily spotted in Mark s style. However, he
doesn t stick to a particular style, also venturing himself in the rock music territory with sporadic
performances with Dave Matthews Band. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
and Verve. Released on the latter label, his 1994 album True Blue got critical acclaim and
displayed an all star lineup composed of Branford Marsalis on saxophones, Kenny Kirkland on
piano, Nicholas Payton on trumpet, Rodney Whitaker on bass, and Jeff Tain Watts on drums. Prior
to that recording, he had the privilege to be joined by jazz monsters like Kenny Barron, Ron
Carter, and Jack DeJohnette in Patrice (Warner Bros., 1991).
After sharing the stage so many times with his two sons (also Berklee graduates), Mark decided to
record his 12th album, Grace, with them. The Japanese bassist Yasushi Nakamura, who won the
title honorary Whitfield family member from the patriarch, joins the pianist Davis Whitfield and
the drummer Mark Whitfield Jr. The brothers names were announced for trumpeter Freddie Hendrix
s upcoming concerts and the drummer was summoned by pianist Orrin Evans for his latest album
#knowingishalfthebattle.
Just like his previous Songs of Wonder, a softhearted celebration of Stevie Wonder s hits, Grace
was released on his own label,

Lately, in America you only see greed. If someone had one million dollars, they would keep it for themselves. You helped me see that there could still be kindness in America. This was very smart of you to realize that America needs help. Usually people only see the good parts in America, but you saw the bad, and want to help. If you look at the underside of America, there is child labor, poverty, unsafe food factories, and women s suffrage. Not everyone in America is making it. Average earnings for American workers are less than $500 a year (BGE). We have gotten some help from muckrakers when they exposed the situation. However, we now need to come together and help get the underside of America fixed. Partnering With The Holy Spirit Essay Partnering with the Holy Spirit In the book, The Spirit of the Disciplines, Dallas Willard presents some spiritual disciplines within the eleven chapters, an epilogue, and two appendixes. He titles Chapter Nine with, Some main Disciplines for the Spiritual Life, and begins the chapter by saying, A discipline for the spiritual life is, when the dust of history is blown away, nothing but an activity undertaken to bring us into more effective cooperation with Christ and his Kingdom. In the next section of the chapter, Willard asks the following questions, What are the particular activities that can serve as disciplines for the spiritual life? And which should we choose for our individual strategy for spiritual growth? To answer his own question, Willard poses that we need not try to come up with a complete list of disciplines. Nor should we assume that practices will have a strong claim to be on every list. Nevertheless, Willard does indeed list a few including: solitude, silence, fasting, frugality, chastity, secrecy, sacrifice, study, worship, celebration, service, prayer, fellowship, confession and submission. He also goes on to say that there are those who are too used to the better things in life and poses that grocery shopping, banking and other business in the poorer areas of the city are effective spiritual disciplines because [it] has an immense effect on our understanding of and behavior toward our neighbors both rich ... Although Tugend has a good case against multitasking by utilizing research as her basis, she does contradict herself at times. Particularly when she talks about how people tend to go back and forth from multiple tasks, and how it affects their thought processes and focus. Tugend says that these people may think that they are handling all the tasks at the same time when in reality they are not. However, she negates the following. Losing focus is contingent upon what the tasks might be. You cannot say that multitasking loses focus in one sentence and then turn around and say it simply depends on what the tasks are. Relationship Between Natural Environment And Human Exchange The relationship between the natural environment and human exchange is one that has been an ongoing battle of overconsumption and a regulation on natural goods. Human interaction during the Industrial Revolution spanning from the nineteenth and twentieth century has several contrasting principles. In the nineteenth century, the excuse of overconsumption was for industrial economic profit. Humans believed that over using natural resource was acceptable due to the belief that natural resources were God s gift to man, and God would replenish the natural goods. In addition, while people did run away from slavery on the underground railroad in the south, slavery didn t only exist in the south like these movies portrayed. The north had slaves just like the south, and while it may not have been as brutal, slavery and its cruelty lived in the north just as it did in the south. Before most of the northern states outlawed slavery, most of the resistance either happened in the area of Florida (or other Spanish and/or Native American owned areas) towards the beginning of slavery and it wasn t until later in the timeline of slavery that Africans began running to the north. Planets are kept in their orbit around a star rather than falling into the star due to gravity and their velocity. In Earth s case, the pull of the sun s gravity and Earth s velocity keeps it orbiting around the sun. The planets are traveling at a velocity that is perpendicular to the starthey are orbiting. Therefore, if the star (sun) was not pulling them in using gravity, the planets would simply continue in a straight line. When Stoker was born, he had two older siblings, and would later get into the habit of living with four younger ones. (Novels for Students 23). During his formative years, he came down with a serious illness, and was confined to his bed for the first seven years of his life. Over the next several years, while he was working on Dracula, Stoker conducted a decent amount of research in order to make his literary masterpiece more authentic. After its publication in 1897, Dracula was generally well received, but it never earned much money within Stoker s lifetime. He failed at his attempts to turn it into a theatre production, and the book was not adapted into successful films until over two decades later. After 1997, life for Stoker and Irving started to go downhill. They lost Lyceum Theatre, and Henry Irving died in 1905. Stoker became gradually lamer and sicker over the years, but he did not concede his writing career. His 1903 novel, The Jewel of Seven Stars, achieved popularity and success. He also wrote The Lady of the Shroud, published in 1903, and Famous Imposters, published in 1910. The Lair of the White Worm was published in 1911 when Stoker was very ill, and hence, this became one of his stranger novels. Whether it be through a stark use of pathos or a technical use of logos, each scene is calculated. However, two scenes tend to stick out in the mind s eye. They specifically offer an extra sense of reality to the already raw story that is presented. As a well known author, Wright employs language in order to get his stories across. And considering that language can take many different meanings, I found two instances or scenes in which language played a vital role. It impacted the author as a child in ways that may have led to his writing style as it is in this novel, therefore it helped to shape him as a writer. These scenes also... In this case, Wright sees the world from a different angle and can, therefore, interpret it from different sides. Learning from his mistake of speaking poor language to his grandmother, he vowed to learn the meaning of all the words he would speak. As a writer, each word choice is then a reflection of his new outlook. He utilizes phrases such as breathlessly anxious , flitting fireflies , pervading smell , pitying chuckle , and saliva stimulating smell (45) immediately following his resolve. Each of these holds an intense imagery that is able to connect the audience to the author. By spending time outlining the clarity of all the experiences around him it is clear to the reader that the author experienced a change in thought and view. As an individual he had the power to decide which language he chooses to employ in his writing, but he knows that without knowing its true meaning it holds power over him. Indeed, he advises that Athens was a much more developed powerhouse, where today s democracy initiated, whereby Sparta was, conversely, a fierce warmongering state where only male warriors participated in politics. However, Brand also acknowledges elements of democracyin both city states. In the case of Sparta, the ecclesia , or the apella were the eligible voting public (Larkin, n.d.) Only Spartan free men of adulthood were able to vote, and adulthood was granted on the Spartan s 30th birthday. In this instance we see the basic semblance of a voting public, but, as Brand (2010) states, whilst the apella met once a month to discuss issues, their scope of influence was severely limited. The Spartan political model was a hierarchy of two kings (historically from two ancient ruling families) whose balance was kept in check by three (later) five Ephors who were elected annually, and who kept the kings power at a moderate level (Brand, 2010.)
