Goodfellas Essay
Goodfellas
(Goodfellas is the film adaptation of the non fiction book ?Wiseguy?, written by Nicholas Pileggi. The
film charts the rise and fall of Henry Hill?s thirty year career within the New York mafia. The film
was released in 1990 and was directed by Martin Scorsese. Goodfellas stars Ray Liotta as Henry Hill,
Lorraine Bracco as Karen Hill (Henry?s Wife), Robert Dc Niro as James Conway and Joe Pesci as
Tommy DeVito.
The film begins with one of the most horrific and sickening moments to appear in a film, the murder
of Billy Batts. At this point the viewer knows nothing of the background events that run up to this
scene. Additionally, the characters are not yet known, so there is no emotional baggage being carried

The purpose of the narration is to smooth over the various jumps in the story. Throughout the film sub
stories change quickly, narration is the device that covers the holes. Without narration the viewer
would become lost very quickly, and may not fully understand events. At the beginning of the film,
Henry is shown as a young boy looking out of his bedroom window admiring the lifestyle of the local
?Wiseguys?. Here follows a very quick succession of events that show how his character gets involved
with these people and what he does to earn more respect from them and eventually be accepted into
their group. The narration explains why he admires them so much, ?They did whatever they wanted?,
why he wants to part of their group and why he does what he does, ?It was about being somebody in a
neighbourhood of nobodies?.
Within the film there are four main characters; Henry Hill, Karen Hill, Tommy DeVito, and James
Conway. Henry and Karen are the only characters that are followed throughout the film. On the whole,
character development is kept to a minimum. For instance, many characters are introduced to the
viewer during a walkthrough steadicam shot of a bar. Most of these characters will be seen later on in
the film, but will only in the background of various scenes. The viewer may recognise these characters
but they still know no more about them. Even with the main characters there are large gaps in time and

The Methods Of Advertising In The Advertising Industry
The advertising industry uses many techniques to grab the attention of customers in order to promote
products and services. Different products or services require different methods to reach the preferred
clientele. One method, SEO (Search Engine Optimization), is used by large companies to record what
kind of ads interest different profiles of people. Methods vary from large corporations, down to the
mom and pop gas stations. Products and services typically appeal to specific customers and their
problems, businesses know this and offer solutions to those needs. However, some companies create
needs in their consumers, usually through products that cause dependency or by convincing impulse
buyers that they can t live without the product. According to Statista, an online statistics journal with
more than 18,000 sources, America spends more money on advertising than any other country in the
world. The advertisement rate grows every year, as we discover new social media outlets to distribute
information. As companies grow and develop, they target specific audiences by age, gender, location
and more, based on data gathered from social media, television ratings and other forms of responses
like surveys and reviews. Advertising has been around ever since there were products to be sold, or
money to be made. An Irish journalist from 1952 wrote, Wise advertising will preserve the goodwill of
former customers, keeping them loyal to the brand (MacCormack, 138) . This rule is

A Cry Of Players By William Gibson
A Cry of Players is written by William Gibson. The first production of the play took place on July 24,
1968 at the Berkshire Theatre Festival in Stockbridge, Massachusetts. The Repertory Theatre of the
Lincoln Center then presented the production on November 14, 1968 in New York City. Both
productions were directed by Gene Frankel. The songs and incidental music for A Cry of Players
written by Peaslee was written for piano and voice, but written instructions on the first page explain
that the piano part is for rehearsals and also to give the guitarist an idea of the character of the setting.
Also the first song Player Entrance Theme can be played by Trumpet, Piccolo, or both plus
accompaniment of percussion and a bass instrument if available. The first theme can also be used as
exit music at the end of the play for the players. The score includes the following pieces: Player s
Entrance Theme, IF I had been Hanged, Ney Nonny No, And Wilt Thou Leave Me Thus, Twas I That
Paid For all Things, and The Squire is Dire. The original music was composed by Peaslee for the
Lincoln Center production of the play. Dramatic Play Service, Inc sold a five song set for the play for
thirteen dollars plus a ten dollar music royalty fee.
A Midsummer Night s Dream by William Shakespeare was first performed at the Stratford upon Avon
Memorial Theatre by the Royal Shakespeare Company. It was directed by Peter Brook with music by

Part A: INDUSTRY INFORMATION
1. Economic Features
Market size and Growth Potential (as of 2003):
* The video game industry is currently a $31 billion global market. * Market size has tripled in value
over the last decade from $10 billion in 1995 to $31 billion as of 2003. * In five years the industry is
expected to grow approximately 14.8% ($36,042/$31,374), at a rate of approximately 2.96% per year
(14.8%/5). * We feel that the industry is entering the early maturity stage of the growth cycle for the
overall global market. * Some observers feel that growth potential is massive, predicting that the video
game market is on track to rival the movie, music, and television industries * Further analysis ... Show

* Others such as Sega and significantly smaller players have decided to focus on game producing
only. * Some major industry players are increasingly turning to outsourcing some of their game
production to independent licensed game developers.
2. Competitive Analysis
*Due to the vast amount of information regarding the gaming industry, we concentrated more on the
work of independent game developers than on the three makers of game consoles.
The Rivalry among Competing Sellers in the Gaming Industry:
Rivalry is seen as being intense due to the following factors:
Major players in the gaming industry: THQ, Acclaim Entertainment, EA Games, Microsoft, Sega, and
Activision
* Gaming industry has experienced fierce competition due to the presence of three (Sony, Nintendo,
Microsoft) different console manufacturers and several independent game developers. * All three
makers of gaming consoles also develop some of their own games, which are exclusive to their own
console. * Game developers are continually coming out with new games in attempt to improve upon
previous releases that were of a lesser technological quality * The smaller game developers are having
difficulty staying competitive due to a lack of capital, and unpredictable cash flows. * Standardization
is definitely present in the many games that are released; therefore we see many game players switch

Difference Between Reasonable Suspicion And Probable Cause
Chapter 5 1. Answer the Chapter Review Questions 1, 5, 7, 10 and 11. 1. Compare and contrast
reasonable suspicion and probable cause. Reasonable suspicion is a reasonable likelihood that a crime
has been, is being, or will be committed. It is a reasonable belief based on facts or circumstances and
is informed by a police officer s training and experience. Reasonable suspicion is seen as more than a
guess or hunch but is less than probable cause. Probable cause is the logical belief, supported by facts
and circumstances, which a crime has been, is being, or will be committed. The difference between the
two are the fact that probable cause has evidence or is fact based whereas reasonable suspicion is a
hunch. 5. Compare and contrast the Aguilar Spinelli test with the totality of circumstances test in
Illinois v. Gates. The Aguilar Spinelli test states that a magistrate must be informed of the reasons to
support the conclusion that such an informant is reliable and credible. The magistrate must be
informed of some of the underlying circumstances relied on by the person providing the information
which also went by the name of the two prong test. The totality of circumstances cancelled out the two
prong test with the rules suggests that there is no single deciding factor, that one must consider all the
facts, the context, and conclude from the whole picture whether there is probable cause, or whether an

Nascar Plane Crash
Abstract
This paper will review the July 10, 2007 aviation accident involving a Cessna 310R, N501N, operated
by the National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing corporate aviation division as a personal flight.
The aircraft crashed while attempting an emergency in to Orlando Sanford International Airport,
Sanford, Florida after experiencing an in flight fire. The flight had been released for flight despite it
having a known unrepaired maintenance discrepancy. Safety issues discussed in this paper relate to the
resetting of circuit breakers, the inspection and maintenance of electrical systems in general aviation
aircraft, and the establishment of safety management systems in general aviation corporate aviation
operations. Safety ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At that time the aircraft was roughly 8 nautical miles northwest of SFB and was turning toward the
airport while rapidly descending. Primary radar returns that were recorded for about another minute
and 30 seconds showed the airplane maintaining a heading of about 150° towards SFB. The last of
these primary radar returns was recorded about 0834:45; the Board s study estimated that at that time
the aircraft was about three miles northwest of SFB and descending through about 1,200 feet above
ground level (AGL). The aircraft subsequently crashed in a residential area about 0.7 nautical miles
west of the last primary radar return.
According to several witnesses near the accident site, the airplane was traveling extremely fast, was
very low, and its wings were rocking as it descended. Just before impact, the airplane entered a steep
bank and made a sharp turn to the west. Several witnesses reported seeing smoke trailing from the
airplane, and one witness stated, Smoke was trailing from the port side. (NTSB, 2009) The main
debris path was about 300 feet long and oriented on a western heading of approximately 255 degrees.
The aircrafts initial point of impact was a north south line of trees in a right wing low attitude at a
height of about 65 feet AGL. About 270 feet beyond the initial tree strikes, the aircraft struck a palm
tree at a height

Boleking And Poverty In India
India is home to over 1.2 billion people with 4 percent of the population being orphans.
India is overloaded with orphans and statistics show that the problem is not going to be getting any
better anytime soon. There are many factors that contribute to the reasoning behind the amount of
orphans, like poverty and some kids being forced into sex trafficking and prostitution.
There are over 20 million orphans in in India because the country is very poor, some families simply
can t support a child so they abandoned them, and some children are unfortunately forced into sex
trafficking. There are many reasons that India alone has 20 million orphans in their country but by far
the most dominant factor is poverty. Around 67 percent of India s population lives below the poverty
line (10 Facts about Poverty in India). Parents simply cannot afford to provide for themselves or for
their children. Many children lack basic life necessities like nutrition, shelter, and care from their
parents, not because their parents don t love them, but because most of the time parents cannot afford
anything. (5 terrible causes of the Orphan Crisis). 46 percent of children under the age of 5 are
malnourished. 31 percent of infants are born with low birth weight. All children in India are
underweight by 18 percent or more (Facts on Children in India). Theses truly statistics show how
badly the country is suffering, and even worse how the children are suffering. Although in some rare
cases parents

The Renaissance Er The Era Of The Individual
The Renaissance period started in the 14th century and later ended in the 16th century. Right after the
Gothic era ended the Renaissance period was born. Additionally, people believe that the Gothic era
contained artwork that later evolved in the Renaissance time period. For instance, Gothic art had a
naturalistic representation and so did Renaissance art. However, it was more obvious in the
Renaissance art. During this time period there was sparks of interest in the sciences and arts. Before
many people had forgot about them or either had no interest in them. The last time those two subjects
were at a high note was before the middle ages. This revival of sciences and arts took place during the
fifteenth century and is known as the Renaissance. The word Renaissance is French and means rebirth
, which perfectly describes what happened to the arts and sciences. Ultimately, the Renaissance era
was the era of the individual. Renaissance art included human beings and was a change in the art
world. The last time human beings were being represented in art was during classical antiquity. For
instance, an artist named Donato Bardi created a naked life size sculpture. He named it David and
gave it contrapposto pose, which means the human figures legs and hips are turned in the opposite
direction of the shoulders and chest. Bardi was the first artist to create a naked life size sculpture
during this time period. The architecture artwork created during this time was very accurate in

Effect Of Divorce On Children
Over the last couple of decades the rate of marriages that end in divorce has been steadily increasing.
When a marriage ends children are impacted and it s not only emotional and devastating the couples
but this also has a huge effect on the children of all ages involved. Many parents go through a divorce
disaster with little knowledge of the effects that the children may go through. Some of the most
common impacts that divorce has on children include the fact that children tend to start to blame
themselves for the divorce, adjusting in areas of social relationships, there are behavioral issues that
arise, and there often becomes a challenge to balance the feeling of stability between the separate
parents. These are just a few of the most common challenges that children face when presented with
the reality of divorce in the family. When we understand the negative effects in which children are
impacted by divorce, the hope is that couples will devote time and energy toward any opportunities to
savage the marriage.
Caught in the Middle 3
While there are many people who go through divorce these days, there are also many children who
suffer from the impacts of divorce on their mind and emotions. (McConville, D. 2013 p 4) One of the
most common impacts of divorce on children is the element of the child feeling like it is his or her
fault. In the initial stages of divorce it can be very important to prevent resentment toward the other
parent. Parents should know about the

Breakfast At Tiffany s A Romantic Comedy Essay
The movie Breakfast at Tiffany s is a romantic comedy about a single young woman who leads an
unusual life. She is engaged in an internal conflict about not conforming to the ideals of society yet
she also cannot break free from the chains that hold her back. While the movie is set in 1961, the
ideals of society and actions of women in the 1950s really set the stage for the issues that Holly
Golightly has to face. It was an era of rapidly shifting sexual norms that were contradictory and
contested (Rackley). Gender roles were driven by socially accepted beliefs, behaviors and
expectations (Holt). Women were beginning to feel empowered to take control of their own bodies and
lives even if this meant that they did not conform to social norms of gender roles. They were trying to
break the stereotypes that existed about women and were starting to become more vocal about their
sexuality, their roles in society and women s rights. conform to any particular notion of what a woman
should be unless it helped her own agenda. Women s political activism eventually led President
Kennedy to announce the President s Commission on the Status of Women in late 1961, which was
ultimately charged with the tasks of finding ways to overcome sex based discrimination and allowing
women to work while fulfilling roles as wives and mothers so they could contribute to the world
around them (DuBois et al 631 632). These activities were the build up to the women s liberation
movement later in the

The Industrial Revolution In The Grapes Of Wrath
The Industrial Revolution may have changed the way America functioned all together, but not all of
that change was for the better. The book The Grapes of Wrath is a great example of the negative toll
that industrialization took on poor laborers. The main character, Tom Joad, describes all that is
happening around him after his return from McAlester state penitentiary. During this time the rising of
big industrial farms puts his family out of work. Throughout the story there is a sort of harmful
domino effect towards the skilled workers of this time. Initially, the fatalistic tumble of events
identified starts with the advancing of the industrial revolution. According to chapter five, paragraph
forty one of The Grapes of Wrath it states, Snub nosed monsters, raising the dust and sticking their
snouts into it, straight down the country, across the country, through fences, through dooryards, in and
out of gullies in straight lines. Tom is referring to the tractor that he sees plowing the field he once
tended to and loved. He uses the same word when he describes or speaks of the bank. A monster is
defined as somethings terrifying and harmful, certainly never anything that is considered good or kind.
His descriptions obviously give a very negative connotation considering he refers to them as a
monster. Henceforth, Tom s opposing tone is towards the banks and the bonanza farms that slowly put
more and more hardworking, small town farmers out of work. According to chapter twenty one,
paragraph ten from The Grapes of Wrath it states, And the roads were crowded with men ravenous for
work, murderous for work. It started with the increasing industrialization that then lead to mass
unemployment of skilled laborers in particular. This is due to the fact that production began
demanding anyone who could operate a simple machine when in the past products were made
completely by hand. This angers and saddens Tom because for years he worked hard to provide for his
family, now any dope who can push a few buttons is taking over the farm that he came to care for. The
tone of longing and nostalgia becomes more predominant through his statement in the first paragraph
of chapter eleven But the machine man,

The Syrian Wars
The Syrian Wars were one of the most devastating in the Hellenistic world; they changed the political
and economic landscape of the region permanently in a way that hadn t happened since the conquests
of Alexander. These wars brought about the end of the Pharaohs, they allowed Rome to come and
seize Egypt and Syria, and Parthia to annex what was left of the Seleukid dynasty. The massive impact
these wars had upon the Hellenic world cannot be understated. Egypt would never rise to its former
glory. It would become another province of Rome, later to be held by the Byzantines, and then
Fatimids, where it would not regain true independence until 1922, shaking itself from British colonial
rule. It is a shame that these wars are not given the rigorous study that they deserve. This paper aims
to explore the Syrian Wars in three ways. It will begin with discussing how the death of Alexander the
Great and his inability to form a sustainable bureaucracy and a proper heir set the stage for his
generals to fight each other for his empire. It will focus upon the actions of Ptolemy and his
successors, and their role in the Syrian wars, and how Ptolemaic power declined as the wars raged on.
It will conclude by explaining how the aftermath of these wars lead to the demise of Ptolemaic power,
and their eventual absorption into Rome. Because of the length of the timeline that will be discussed
here (this paper will attempt to describe 200 years of history in under 15 pages), a narrative

The Is The Party Of God
Abstract
When translated, Hezbollah means The Party of God. However, as we examine the history,
demographics, agenda, methodology and target choices and affiliation assignments and contributions
of Hezbollah, we discover that this organization was established with perhaps one goal in mind and
that is to strike fear into the hearts of those that oppose an Islamic state in Lebanon. Therefore, as the
self proclaimed Party of God, based on the history of their activities and actions, they appear to be
something entirely different.
History
Since the establishment of Hezbollah in 1982 as part of the Iranian government s Revolutionary
Guard, according to Spindlove et al (2010, pp. 249 252), the goal of this organization has since been
the creation of an independent Islamic state exclusive of the nation of Lebanon. Moreover, according
to a compilation of information by Berman (2015), it is widely believed that the Hezbollah ideology
spawned during the Iranian Revolution. During this revolution, the rhetoric called upon Muslims to
over through governments that oppressed them and their beliefs. Within Lebanon, according to
perceptions of the Hezbollah leaders, the United States (U.S.) was ultimately to blame for the
oppression of Lebanese Muslims and their beliefs while, simultaneously, viewing Israel as an
extension of the U.S. and its policies within the region. Led by religious clerics, in addition to their
desire for independence, the Hezbollah organization adopted an

The Important Role Of Heroes In Homer s Odyssey
Heroes are important. We all see heroes as strong, fast, and brave as they embrace the impossible.
Whether they are real or just a cartoon, they inspire us to be brave, strong, and to help the people

trials that make them stronger, and wiser. When their homes were being troubled by the Suitors,
Katniss was troubled by the capitol. Odysseus traveled to go fight a war but got lost, Katniss was put

Why Is Cursive Writing Important
The debate on cursive writing, how important is it?
Although cursive writing seems like a thing of the past, many people debate if it should stay there or
not. Writing by hand does have a lot of benifits, not many of therm do people associate writing by
hand with. Although it has been proven to be good for our minds, there is still a lot of contreversy over
the subject.
I agree with the article supporting cursive writing for the following reasons. Writing by hand,
especially in cursive, is very benificial to our memory. More people who write in cursive remember
ideas better as opposed to those who type. Hand writing verse typing allows people to process the
material given to them better. During a research study, students who took

Catherine Fordham Consomme Essay
A woman fights off an attacker while walking alone at night in Catherine Fordham s Consommé.
(Just quickly, I want to say that this film does deal with sensitive material relating to sexual
harassment and sexual assault, and I don t want this film to have a negative impact on anyone reading
this review.)
Consommé begins with a young woman leaving an apartment building late at night after a fight with
someone. She begins walking briskly through the streets of Brooklyn. The viewer then sees this same
woman slowly waking up in a brightly lit bedroom, which is what reveals that this short film will be
told through a series of flashbacks.
During the woman s flashbacks to her walk the night before, the audience hears lots of loud city noises

Either she doesn t sense his presence or she s trying to ignore it because she s sure she s being
paranoid. However, when the man grabs her, her fear and the audience s fear is realized. He drags her
into an alley and begins attacking her.
In contrast to the dark, foreboding, dangerous night flashbacks, the current shots of the woman waking
up are all well lit, bright with sunshine, and full of light colors. They are quiet and peaceful. However,
the woman s face and body are beaten up pretty badly. She has cuts and bruises on her legs and face,
reminding the viewer of the brutal attack she endured the night before. At this point in the film, the
viewer still doesn t know exactly how the attack will end will the man just beat her up? Will he rape
her? Will she have to go to the hospital?
The final flashback moment I will discuss, so as not to give away the ending, is the moment this
woman realizes she is going to be sexually assaulted. Prior to this, the man had been just beating her
up in the alley. He was kicking her and throwing her around. However, he pins her up against a
vehicle in the alley and the woman hears him begin to undo his belt buckle. When she realizes what is
about to happen, she goes into pure survival and fight mode. That s where I ll leave off with my

Benefits Of Using Pvc Used For An Enterprise Of Pvc Furniture
CHAPTER 5
RESULT DISCUSSION
5.1 RESULT DISCUSSION
It can be easily understood by this paper that there are enormous benefits of using PVC in various
applications. Setting up an enterprise of PVC furniture can give us high returns at low input cost.
Initial set up cost of PVC furniture enterprise is also less as compared to other enterprises of same
level. This project requires less area because of its simple fabrication process and less machines
required with reduced inventory. Dedicating ourselves towards protecting environment it can save
thousands/lakhs of trees which would otherwise be used in making furniture. Also precious earth
metals can be saved for more purposeful use by using PVC in many applications. Polyvinyl chloride
(PVC) pipe are leading the way in replacing the various other materials that have been previously used
in pipe construction; they have only been scarcely used in the past, however over the past 30 years
they have proven themselves to be more than worthy replacements for the conventional materials such
as steel and iron.
PVC has a myriad of advantages over traditionally used materials. For starters, PVC and PE pipe are
very durable materials; they are just as strong as iron, which is crucial due to pipes exposure to both
internal and external pressures. However, arguably two of their most important attributes are that they
neither corrode, nor do they have a

Gangs Of New York Film Analysis
1) Immigration (Irish) Potatoe s were a staple in the Irish diet but in the 1840 s the potato crops were
mysteriously rotting and dying. This spread all across the fields of Ireland causing a famine. The
famine lasted for about six years and killed over a million men, women, and children in Ireland. It also
caused many of the Irish to immigrate to America to survive. The film Gangs of New York takes place
at the five points in lower Manhattan. The Nativists who believed that they were the true native

Negative Consequences of Cigarette Smoking Essay
Negative Consequences of Cigarette Smoking
Everyone has a family member, friend, or co worker who smokes. They have chosen to smoke, but by

think what problems can he face because of it. There are many causes for smoking but effects of
smoking are same. Smoking is a hazardous habit because it leads to addiction, disease, and high risk
pregnancy.
Commercials show that smoking is a way to relax and to be cool by smoking cigarettes; they never

Unborn babies who have mothers who smoke are more likely to die of sudden infant death syndrome
(SIDS). The placenta joins the mother and the baby, which is where the baby gets food and oxygen.
When a mother smokes the placenta does not work as well as it should. The babies are also more
likely to be born early. Every time a woman smokes she is giving her child less oxygen. It is very easy
for a pregnant woman to stop smoking when the people around her do not smoke. When a baby is
born to a mother who smokes the baby will not grow well as it should. Many experts agree that
smoking is an unhealthy habit every one specially and for pregnant women and can not only hurt the
mother but really can have negative effect on the baby as well.
Because of smoking, smokers have high risks of addictions, diseases or risks in pregnancies. Smokers
prefer their habit, rather than caring about this terrible problem. They avoid

The Importance Of Classroom Communication Structures
In classroom setting, the interactions to make meaning between teacher to students happen in many
different layered / laminated situations. In class size discussion settings, the dominant interaction
structure between teachers and students have been the I R E ( Initiation, Response, Evaluation)
structures that according to some studies, may diminish teachers classroom communications skills (
Moloney, at.al., 2012), turn teachers as sole knowers ( Robinson, 2011; Lehman Scharer, 1996), and
eventually , for students only to experience low‐level cognitive learning ( Bloome, 2015). Bloome
suggested that rather than employing I R E structures, teachers should have other instructional
strategies that make it possible for students to get engaged in dialogic interaction. Having the
opportunities to talk in a discussion setting is an important process of learning for students. It is an
opportunity for them to share knowledge, exchange ideas and make meanings be them in dyadic,
triadic, or whole classroom discussion settings( Goffman, 1981). In regards to ( informal) talk between
students, Goffman said that it is more loosely connected to the world than other kinds of utterances
like formal or ritualized speeches (1974, p. 502). Goffman is aware that individuals utterances are
shaped by their experience and their social contexts. In accordance with Goffman, Bakhtin , as quoted
by Kaberelis and Scott ( 1992) believed that the experience of talking in the family,

With the above considerations in mind, a total wattage of between 15,000 and 17,000 watts is
desirable, as this will provide enough headroom for a quality audio performance along with a suitable
volume level for all audience members.
Requirement:
15000watts/2000people = 7.5watts per person
In addition, it is also paramount for the audio quality to be consistently audible for all members of the
audience. This will be achieved by utilising a system design configuration that focus on clarity and
direction whilst also rendering itself sympathetic to the sensitive ears of the general public not
attending the event.
The System
With a desired total power being between 15,000 and 17,000 Watts, the (PA) system consists of the
following: * J8 Loudspeaker (D amp;B Audiotechnik, 2010) * Q1 Loudspeaker (D amp;B
Audiotechnik, 2010) * JSub Subwoofer (D amp;B Audiotechnik, 2010)
The proposed Digital Line Array configuration will be flown ; suspended 6+meters above ground.
These DVA s will be located on both sides of the stage. The 4 JSub Subwoofers will be equally spaced
along the length of the stage, 2 Jsubs will sit atop the DVA, 2 will sit on the ground as to maximise the
reach of the low frequency content.

Parallels Between Heart of Darkness and Apocalypse Now
Various parallels can be drawn when comparing and contrasting Joseph Conrad s Heart of Darkness
and Frank Coppola s Apocalypse Now , while taking into consideration Heart of Darkness is a novella
and Apocalypse Now is a film. These differences and similarities can be seen in themes, characters,
events and other small snippets of information including anything from quoted lines to strange actions
of the main characters. Both pieces follow the same story line but they are presented in different
contexts, allowing for many differences as well as the ability to see how Conrad is able to write a
piece of literature that can be transposed to many different settings regardless the time period and still
convey the same message of colonialism. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is similar, for the exception that in one they are on the ship in which the shelling occurs, versus
simply being a bystander. It shows how `fire happy these men were ready to fight and kill without a
motive.
Heart of Darkness and Apocalypse Now both embody the theme of madness and insanity. In Heart of
Darkness madness and insanity come as a result of imperialism, Africa is responsible for mental
disintegration as well as for physical illness. Madness, in Heart of Darkness, is the result of being
removed from ones normal environment and how each person adapts and then re adapts to society.
The same theme of madness and insanity can be seen in Coppola s Apocalypse Now. Many of the
soldier s are just kids, barely 18 or 19, and have little mental stability, since being thrown into a
context that is so foreign to them, where their life is on the line every minute. Men like Chef and
Lance are ready to snap at any moment because of the shock and realization of where they are, what
they are doing, and the fear of not knowing where they are headed. Coppola confronts the insanity of
war through Kurtz and the other young men, he is able to depict what it was like for these men, and
why so many men after serving in Vietnam suffered Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome.
One interesting event that is different is the endings of Heart of Darkness and Apocalypse Now. In
Heart of Darkness, Kurtz is dying of a slow death and indeed

Simplified Evolution Model Of The Genetic Landscape
Figure 10: Simplified evolution model of the genetic landscape in melanoma development and
progression30. In sequence, melanoma formation is initiated by activating mutation in BRAF from the
ERK MAPK pathway, which induces senescence forming a nevus. Mutation of TERT promoter, which
increases transcriptional activity, as well as disruption of cell cycle control that abrogates cell cycle
arrest (elevated levels observed in melanoma in situ) are events that allows the bypass of OIS
mechanism proceeding towards melanoma transformation. Copy number alteration (CNA) is observed
exclusively in invasive malignant melanoma alongside mutations in p53 and PTEN tumor suppressors
suggesting that these alterations are important in the event of cancer cell invasion and dissemination.
Mutation burden, specifically point mutations (indicative of UVR damage) increases throughout
progression. Frequency of the driver oncogenes remains constant throughout tumor progression.
9. Management and therapeutic approach of disease
Surgical removal is the standard treatment for localized primary melanomas. Localized melanomas are
exceedingly curable when removed properly within the recommended excision margins (maximum
2cm according to the National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN) guidelines for melanoma).
However, as melanoma progresses, it becomes increasingly difficult to treat as the disease is likely to
recur and become more resilient to the immune system as well as treatment.

The Black Death
In a time when God was everything, death came among the rich, poor, sinners, and religious people in
western Europe. Could this be retribution for the people s sins and God has a plan, or would this be
the fatal disease that would lead people to question their faith in God? Giovanni Boccaccio saw first
hand what the Black Death did to his country, how disease flooded throughout and death was
inevitable. Everything was changing, people were losing faith, the preservation of food, and simple
customs like burial rituals started to disappear. Health and Religion were the key factors in the
changing and modernization of early western Europe, these reflect on the poor hygiene, social order,
decline in old customs and faith issues that occurred in the late Medieval world. The Black Death had
made its way to the west, people knew by the many signs of sickness that they would only have a
couple of days left to live. The main symptom of the pestilence was a large tumor that would turn into
black or gray spots around the body, which was an infallible token of approaching death . Western
Europe was scrambling to find answers as to what was happening to their people, doctors were unable
to provide medicine or cures for the diseased people. More people becoming ill, it became difficult to
keep towns clean, the smell of dead bodies filled the air, and people began to leave the city with no
hope for a cure. Boccaccio recounts a time when he witnessed The rags of a poor man who died of

Richler s The Apprenticeship Of Duddy Kravitz
The Selfish Madness of Duddy Kravitz The story of Duddy Kravitz reveals that there s more to strive
towards in life than being financially successful. Mordecai Richler s The Apprenticeship of Duddy
Kravitz covers the story of a young man who begins to pursue money and land in response to
misinterpreting advice from his grandfather. Throughout the novel, Duddy Kravitz fights for money
and land, hurting those around him in the process. He breaks the hearts of those who love him and
pushes them away through the horrible deeds he performs for his money. Some argue that Duddy
Kravitz is a modern hero that should be looked up to for doing what the world expects of someone his
age. This idea goes against the very definition of a hero as being someone ... Show more content on

There is of course, the time when Duddy sets up a deal between Calder and Cohen that works out
positively for both of them. They are both his friends and he does them a favour. Later on, he also
does a seemingly nice deed for Virgil by giving him a few hundred dollars saying it was money that he
had gotten back from the truck he bought Virgil. He did this after cheating Virgil out of the $1000
Duddy originally owed him and instead giving a truck he was getting for free. Regardless of this
however, Duddy s misdeeds still outweigh the good he has done. In regards to him being altruistic, it
is often the case that he is altruistic for a selfish reason. The deal he set up between his friend Calder
and Cohen he did so for money, which he made clear from the start, If I can get [the deal] for you
what s in it for me? (205). He also reveals later how little he truly cares about his friendship with
Calder. He asks Calder for help multiple times but only seems to keep him close to get help. When
Calder finally stops helping him, Duddy turns against him immediately, That king among anti semites.
I ll see him strung up from a lamp post yet. (309). Duddy s generousness is quite nonexistent as well,
which is evidenced by the fact that the money he gives Virgil was not given to Virgil for any of the
reasons it should have been. Duddy cheated Virgil out of $1000. He did this by

Execution Poem Analysis
In this poem Execution written by Edward Hirsch tells a philosophical reflection expressed with
sadness about a sicken high school football coach who is extremely passionate. The overview of this
poem is centered around his favorite word execution. Execution is expressed in multiple ways in this
poem. Life was about football for the coach, he would pour in his blood sweat and tears to the game.
There was no that he received every inch of effort from his player. Countless hours of preparation,
practice, and energy was devoted. You would think working this hard would bring upon serious
exhaustion, but the coach was like an energizer bunny, he would keep going. Unfortunately this
lifestyle caught up with him, the speaker says he developed cancer. I believe that he spent too much
time on the game of football. Ultimately this is what lead to his illness, the neglection of his self for
the game that he loved. Details from the poem will be used to argue my claim. These details are
relevant to how the coach acted and his philosophies. The significance that we get out of my claim is
thought provoking. The type of execution he was preaching to the team went into full effect in the
form of cancer towards him. Let me start off by saying that the coach had great intentions for the way
he coached. Hardnosed, no nonsense guy, who taught discipline. Learning the art of discipline helps
you on the field, but the results are even more notable off the field in everyday life. You cannot go
wrong with being a disciplined individual. Real big on fundamentals, a perfectionist at teaching them.
The speaker states, And had perfect unquestioning faith in the fundamentals of blocking and talking,
the idea of warfare without suffering or death, the concept of teammates moving in harmony like
planets. An architect at work piecing together a formula to prepare his team the best way he can.
Losing was not an option, the speaker says that the coach despised losing. I personally hate losing
myself so I can relate. Losing to me is like getting stabbed in the back. It hurts tremendously to not
come out victorious. I do not fault the coach for putting the team through strenuous drills or drilling
formations and plays in their head.

Essay about The War of 1812
The War of 1812
On June 18, 1812, the United States declared war on Great Britain. The peace treaty to end the war
was signed in Europe, 1814. The war lasted from 1812 to the spring of 1815 because there was a delay
in communications. It was fought along the Canadian border, along with several sea battles. By the
time the war was over the United States lost 2,260 soldiers, and the British 1,600 soldiers. The war of
1812 was a very significant event that took place in the U.S. It did in fact confirm America s
independence. That is why it is often referred to as the second war of independence or the second
revolutionary war.
The United States had been upset with British for several reasons. British failed to withdraw from

The British maritime policy was influenced by it s jealousy of America s commercial growth. Even
though both France and Britain violated the United States neutral rights on the seas, the United States
resented Britain maritime policies more because they dominated the seas. The U.S. tried to peacefully
change the policies of the European powers. There would not be a British maritime policy if it had not
been for the war with France. The policy was intended to destroy Frances economy.
During the Napoleonic Wars the Royal Navy expanded to 175 ships of the line and 600 ships overall,
requiring 140,000 sailors. The Royal Navy turned to impressments when it didn t have enough able
bodies to man the ships. The Royal Navy went after Royal Navy Veterans or deserters who had left
and became sailors in the United States merchant navy by intercepting and searching U.S merchant
ships. Britain also considered any U.S. citizen born in British liable for impressments. The inability to
distinguish Americans from non Americans due to a wide spread of use of false identity led to frequent
impressments of Americans that had never been British. This became a major grievance.
The United States attempted to change the European policies by the Embargo Act of 1807, after the
Chesapeake affair of 1807. The Embargo Act banned all American ships from foreign trade.

Ignorance Is Eyewitness
The Second Law of Thermodynamics states that in an isolated system, there will be a natural tendency
towards a more disordered state. When things or ideas are separated from each other, they are
perceived to be organized. On the other hand, when things or ideas are all mushed together, they are
deemed unorganized. The proverb, Ignorance is bliss , represents a very orderly state where opposites
are separated. In contrast, the proverb, The truth shall set you free , signifies a disordered state where
opposites are mixed together. Therefore, according to The Second Law of Thermodynamics, there is a
natural tendency for opposites to combine. The Book of Job features many instances of the mixing of
opposites, which leads Job to see the world differently. The first time opposites combined occurs
during the very beginning of the book. Job begins with a large amount of animals and plenty of
children, however a few moments later, Job loses everything that he had and suffers. This already
changes the way Job thinks, which could be seen when Job said, We have accepted good fortune from
God, surely we can accept bad fortune too (8). Before Job loses everything, he does not know what

The prophecy that Oedipus is the man who should marry his own mother shows opposites combining
since he would be producing children with the person who made him. Even though Oedipus runs away
from his family to prevent this from happening, it still happens anyways because he cannot evade fate.
When Tiresias tells Oedipus, You are the murderer whom you seek (20), Oedipus rejects the idea that
the murderer and him are the same person by saying, Now twice you have spat out infamy [...]
Whatever you say is worthless (20). Later on in the story, Oedipus finds out that he is the murderer of
his father, which also demonstrates how fate and the combination of opposites is

  • 2. Goodfellas Essay Goodfellas (Goodfellas is the film adaptation of the non fiction book ?Wiseguy?, written by Nicholas Pileggi. The film charts the rise and fall of Henry Hill?s thirty year career within the New York mafia. The film was released in 1990 and was directed by Martin Scorsese. Goodfellas stars Ray Liotta as Henry Hill, Lorraine Bracco as Karen Hill (Henry?s Wife), Robert Dc Niro as James Conway and Joe Pesci as Tommy DeVito. The film begins with one of the most horrific and sickening moments to appear in a film, the murder of Billy Batts. At this point the viewer knows nothing of the background events that run up to this scene. Additionally, the characters are not yet known, so there is no emotional baggage being carried with the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The purpose of the narration is to smooth over the various jumps in the story. Throughout the film sub stories change quickly, narration is the device that covers the holes. Without narration the viewer would become lost very quickly, and may not fully understand events. At the beginning of the film, Henry is shown as a young boy looking out of his bedroom window admiring the lifestyle of the local ?Wiseguys?. Here follows a very quick succession of events that show how his character gets involved with these people and what he does to earn more respect from them and eventually be accepted into their group. The narration explains why he admires them so much, ?They did whatever they wanted?, why he wants to part of their group and why he does what he does, ?It was about being somebody in a neighbourhood of nobodies?. Within the film there are four main characters; Henry Hill, Karen Hill, Tommy DeVito, and James Conway. Henry and Karen are the only characters that are followed throughout the film. On the whole, character development is kept to a minimum. For instance, many characters are introduced to the viewer during a walkthrough steadicam shot of a bar. Most of these characters will be seen later on in the film, but will only in the background of various scenes. The viewer may recognise these characters but they still know no more about them. • 4. The Methods Of Advertising In The Advertising Industry The advertising industry uses many techniques to grab the attention of customers in order to promote products and services. Different products or services require different methods to reach the preferred clientele. One method, SEO (Search Engine Optimization), is used by large companies to record what kind of ads interest different profiles of people. Methods vary from large corporations, down to the mom and pop gas stations. Products and services typically appeal to specific customers and their problems, businesses know this and offer solutions to those needs. However, some companies create needs in their consumers, usually through products that cause dependency or by convincing impulse buyers that they can t live without the product. According to Statista, an online statistics journal with more than 18,000 sources, America spends more money on advertising than any other country in the world. The advertisement rate grows every year, as we discover new social media outlets to distribute information. As companies grow and develop, they target specific audiences by age, gender, location and more, based on data gathered from social media, television ratings and other forms of responses like surveys and reviews. Advertising has been around ever since there were products to be sold, or money to be made. An Irish journalist from 1952 wrote, Wise advertising will preserve the goodwill of former customers, keeping them loyal to the brand (MacCormack, 138) . This rule is ... • 5. A Cry Of Players By William Gibson A Cry of Players is written by William Gibson. The first production of the play took place on July 24, 1968 at the Berkshire Theatre Festival in Stockbridge, Massachusetts. The Repertory Theatre of the Lincoln Center then presented the production on November 14, 1968 in New York City. Both productions were directed by Gene Frankel. The songs and incidental music for A Cry of Players written by Peaslee was written for piano and voice, but written instructions on the first page explain that the piano part is for rehearsals and also to give the guitarist an idea of the character of the setting. Also the first song Player Entrance Theme can be played by Trumpet, Piccolo, or both plus accompaniment of percussion and a bass instrument if available. The first theme can also be used as exit music at the end of the play for the players. The score includes the following pieces: Player s Entrance Theme, IF I had been Hanged, Ney Nonny No, And Wilt Thou Leave Me Thus, Twas I That Paid For all Things, and The Squire is Dire. The original music was composed by Peaslee for the Lincoln Center production of the play. Dramatic Play Service, Inc sold a five song set for the play for thirteen dollars plus a ten dollar music royalty fee. • 7. Difference Between Reasonable Suspicion And Probable Cause Chapter 5 1. Answer the Chapter Review Questions 1, 5, 7, 10 and 11. 1. Compare and contrast reasonable suspicion and probable cause. Reasonable suspicion is a reasonable likelihood that a crime has been, is being, or will be committed. It is a reasonable belief based on facts or circumstances and is informed by a police officer s training and experience. Reasonable suspicion is seen as more than a guess or hunch but is less than probable cause. Probable cause is the logical belief, supported by facts and circumstances, which a crime has been, is being, or will be committed. The difference between the two are the fact that probable cause has evidence or is fact based whereas reasonable suspicion is a hunch. 5. Compare and contrast the Aguilar Spinelli test with the totality of circumstances test in Illinois v. Gates. The Aguilar Spinelli test states that a magistrate must be informed of the reasons to support the conclusion that such an informant is reliable and credible. The magistrate must be informed of some of the underlying circumstances relied on by the person providing the information which also went by the name of the two prong test. The totality of circumstances cancelled out the two prong test with the rules suggests that there is no single deciding factor, that one must consider all the facts, the context, and conclude from the whole picture whether there is probable cause, or whether an alleged detention is really a detention, or whether a citizen acted under ... • 9. Boleking And Poverty In India India is home to over 1.2 billion people with 4 percent of the population being orphans. India is overloaded with orphans and statistics show that the problem is not going to be getting any better anytime soon. There are many factors that contribute to the reasoning behind the amount of orphans, like poverty and some kids being forced into sex trafficking and prostitution. There are over 20 million orphans in in India because the country is very poor, some families simply can t support a child so they abandoned them, and some children are unfortunately forced into sex trafficking. There are many reasons that India alone has 20 million orphans in their country but by far the most dominant factor is poverty. Around 67 percent of India s population lives below the poverty line (10 Facts about Poverty in India). Parents simply cannot afford to provide for themselves or for their children. Many children lack basic life necessities like nutrition, shelter, and care from their parents, not because their parents don t love them, but because most of the time parents cannot afford anything. (5 terrible causes of the Orphan Crisis). 46 percent of children under the age of 5 are malnourished. 31 percent of infants are born with low birth weight. • 10. The Renaissance Er The Era Of The Individual The Renaissance period started in the 14th century and later ended in the 16th century. Right after the Gothic era ended the Renaissance period was born. Additionally, people believe that the Gothic era contained artwork that later evolved in the Renaissance time period. For instance, Gothic art had a naturalistic representation and so did Renaissance art. However, it was more obvious in the Renaissance art. During this time period there was sparks of interest in the sciences and arts. Before many people had forgot about them or either had no interest in them. The last time those two subjects were at a high note was before the middle ages. This revival of sciences and arts took place during the fifteenth century and is known as the Renaissance. The word Renaissance is French and means rebirth , which perfectly describes what happened to the arts and sciences. Ultimately, the Renaissance era was the era of the individual. Renaissance art included human beings and was a change in the art world. The last time human beings were being represented in art was during classical antiquity. For instance, an artist named Donato Bardi created a naked life size sculpture. He named it David and gave it contrapposto pose, which means the human figures legs and hips are turned in the opposite direction of the shoulders and chest. Bardi was the first artist to create a naked life size sculpture during this time period. The architecture artwork created during this time was very accurate in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. Effect Of Divorce On Children Over the last couple of decades the rate of marriages that end in divorce has been steadily increasing. When a marriage ends children are impacted and it s not only emotional and devastating the couples but this also has a huge effect on the children of all ages involved. Many parents go through a divorce disaster with little knowledge of the effects that the children may go through. Some of the most common impacts that divorce has on children include the fact that children tend to start to blame themselves for the divorce, adjusting in areas of social relationships, there are behavioral issues that arise, and there often becomes a challenge to balance the feeling of stability between the separate parents. These are just a few of the most common challenges that children face when presented with the reality of divorce in the family. When we understand the negative effects in which children are impacted by divorce, the hope is that couples will devote time and energy toward any opportunities to savage the marriage. Caught in the Middle 3 While there are many people who go through divorce these days, there are also many children who suffer from the impacts of divorce on their mind and emotions. (McConville, D. 2013 p 4) One of the most common impacts of divorce on children is the element of the child feeling like it is his or her fault. • 12. Breakfast At Tiffany s A Romantic Comedy Essay The movie Breakfast at Tiffany s is a romantic comedy about a single young woman who leads an unusual life. She is engaged in an internal conflict about not conforming to the ideals of society yet she also cannot break free from the chains that hold her back. While the movie is set in 1961, the ideals of society and actions of women in the 1950s really set the stage for the issues that Holly Golightly has to face. It was an era of rapidly shifting sexual norms that were contradictory and contested (Rackley). Gender roles were driven by socially accepted beliefs, behaviors and expectations (Holt). Women were beginning to feel empowered to take control of their own bodies and lives even if this meant that they did not conform to social norms of gender roles. They were trying to break the stereotypes that existed about women and were starting to become more vocal about their sexuality, their roles in society and women s rights. conform to any particular notion of what a woman should be unless it helped her own agenda. Women s political activism eventually led President Kennedy to announce the President s Commission on the Status of Women in late 1961, which was ultimately charged with the tasks of finding ways to overcome sex based discrimination and allowing women to work while fulfilling roles as wives and mothers so they could contribute to the world around them (DuBois et al 631 632). • 13. The Industrial Revolution In The Grapes Of Wrath The Industrial Revolution may have changed the way America functioned all together, but not all of that change was for the better. The book The Grapes of Wrath is a great example of the negative toll that industrialization took on poor laborers. The main character, Tom Joad, describes all that is happening around him after his return from McAlester state penitentiary. During this time the rising of big industrial farms puts his family out of work. Throughout the story there is a sort of harmful domino effect towards the skilled workers of this time. Initially, the fatalistic tumble of events identified starts with the advancing of the industrial revolution. According to chapter five, paragraph forty one of The Grapes of Wrath it states, Snub nosed monsters, raising the dust and sticking their snouts into it, straight down the country, across the country, through fences, through dooryards, in and out of gullies in straight lines. Tom is referring to the tractor that he sees plowing the field he once tended to and loved. He uses the same word when he describes or speaks of the bank. A monster is defined as somethings terrifying and harmful, certainly never anything that is considered good or kind. His descriptions obviously give a very negative connotation considering he refers to them as a monster. Henceforth, Tom s opposing tone is towards the banks and the bonanza farms that slowly put more and more hardworking, small town farmers out of work. According to chapter twenty one, paragraph ten from The Grapes of Wrath it states, And the roads were crowded with men ravenous for work, murderous for work. It started with the increasing industrialization that then lead to mass unemployment of skilled laborers in particular. This is due to the fact that production began demanding anyone who could operate a simple machine when in the past products were made completely by hand. This angers and saddens Tom because for years he worked hard to provide for his family, now any dope who can push a few buttons is taking over the farm that he came to care for. The tone of longing and nostalgia becomes more predominant through his statement in the first paragraph of chapter eleven But the machine man, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 14. The Syrian Wars The Syrian Wars were one of the most devastating in the Hellenistic world; they changed the political and economic landscape of the region permanently in a way that hadn t happened since the conquests of Alexander. These wars brought about the end of the Pharaohs, they allowed Rome to come and seize Egypt and Syria, and Parthia to annex what was left of the Seleukid dynasty. The massive impact these wars had upon the Hellenic world cannot be understated. Egypt would never rise to its former glory. It would become another province of Rome, later to be held by the Byzantines, and then Fatimids, where it would not regain true independence until 1922, shaking itself from British colonial rule. It is a shame that these wars are not given the rigorous study that they deserve. This paper aims to explore the Syrian Wars in three ways. It will begin with discussing how the death of Alexander the Great and his inability to form a sustainable bureaucracy and a proper heir set the stage for his generals to fight each other for his empire. It will focus upon the actions of Ptolemy and his successors, and their role in the Syrian wars, and how Ptolemaic power declined as the wars raged on. It will conclude by explaining how the aftermath of these wars lead to the demise of Ptolemaic power, and their eventual absorption into Rome. Because of the length of the timeline that will be discussed here (this paper will attempt to describe 200 years of history in under 15 pages), a narrative ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 15. The Is The Party Of God Abstract When translated, Hezbollah means The Party of God. However, as we examine the history, demographics, agenda, methodology and target choices and affiliation assignments and contributions of Hezbollah, we discover that this organization was established with perhaps one goal in mind and that is to strike fear into the hearts of those that oppose an Islamic state in Lebanon. Therefore, as the self proclaimed Party of God, based on the history of their activities and actions, they appear to be something entirely different. History Since the establishment of Hezbollah in 1982 as part of the Iranian government s Revolutionary Guard, according to Spindlove et al (2010, pp. 249 252), the goal of this organization has since been the creation of an independent Islamic state exclusive of the nation of Lebanon. Moreover, according to a compilation of information by Berman (2015), it is widely believed that the Hezbollah ideology spawned during the Iranian Revolution. During this revolution, the rhetoric called upon Muslims to over through governments that oppressed them and their beliefs. Within Lebanon, according to perceptions of the Hezbollah leaders, the United States (U.S.) was ultimately to blame for the oppression of Lebanese Muslims and their beliefs while, simultaneously, viewing Israel as an extension of the U.S. and its policies within the region. Led by religious clerics, in addition to their desire for independence, the Hezbollah organization adopted an ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Although it has been proven to be good for our minds, there is still a lot of contreversy over the subject. I agree with the article supporting cursive writing for the following reasons. Writing by hand, especially in cursive, is very benificial to our memory. More people who write in cursive remember ideas better as opposed to those who type. Hand writing verse typing allows people to process the material given to them better. During a research study, students who took ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 18. Catherine Fordham Consomme Essay A woman fights off an attacker while walking alone at night in Catherine Fordham s Consommé. (Just quickly, I want to say that this film does deal with sensitive material relating to sexual harassment and sexual assault, and I don t want this film to have a negative impact on anyone reading this review.) Consommé begins with a young woman leaving an apartment building late at night after a fight with someone. She begins walking briskly through the streets of Brooklyn. The viewer then sees this same woman slowly waking up in a brightly lit bedroom, which is what reveals that this short film will be told through a series of flashbacks. During the woman s flashbacks to her walk the night before, the audience hears lots of loud city noises ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Either she doesn t sense his presence or she s trying to ignore it because she s sure she s being paranoid. However, when the man grabs her, her fear and the audience s fear is realized. He drags her into an alley and begins attacking her. In contrast to the dark, foreboding, dangerous night flashbacks, the current shots of the woman waking up are all well lit, bright with sunshine, and full of light colors. They are quiet and peaceful. However, the woman s face and body are beaten up pretty badly. She has cuts and bruises on her legs and face, reminding the viewer of the brutal attack she endured the night before. At this point in the film, the viewer still doesn t know exactly how the attack will end will the man just beat her up? Will he rape her? Will she have to go to the hospital? The final flashback moment I will discuss, so as not to give away the ending, is the moment this woman realizes she is going to be sexually assaulted. Prior to this, the man had been just beating her up in the alley. He was kicking her and throwing her around. However, he pins her up against a vehicle in the alley and the woman hears him begin to undo his belt buckle. When she realizes what is about to happen, she goes into pure survival and fight mode. • 19. Benefits Of Using Pvc Used For An Enterprise Of Pvc Furniture CHAPTER 5 RESULT DISCUSSION 5.1 RESULT DISCUSSION It can be easily understood by this paper that there are enormous benefits of using PVC in various applications. Setting up an enterprise of PVC furniture can give us high returns at low input cost. Initial set up cost of PVC furniture enterprise is also less as compared to other enterprises of same level. This project requires less area because of its simple fabrication process and less machines required with reduced inventory. Dedicating ourselves towards protecting environment it can save thousands/lakhs of trees which would otherwise be used in making furniture. Also precious earth metals can be saved for more purposeful use by using PVC in many applications. Polyvinyl chloride (PVC) pipe are leading the way in replacing the various other materials that have been previously used in pipe construction; they have only been scarcely used in the past, however over the past 30 years they have proven themselves to be more than worthy replacements for the conventional materials such as steel and iron. PVC has a myriad of advantages over traditionally used materials. For starters, PVC and PE pipe are very durable materials; they are just as strong as iron, which is crucial due to pipes exposure to both internal and external pressures. However, arguably two of their most important attributes are that they neither corrode, nor do they have a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Importance Of Classroom Communication Structures In classroom setting, the interactions to make meaning between teacher to students happen in many different layered / laminated situations. In class size discussion settings, the dominant interaction structure between teachers and students have been the I R E ( Initiation, Response, Evaluation) structures that according to some studies, may diminish teachers classroom communications skills ( Moloney, at.al., 2012), turn teachers as sole knowers ( Robinson, 2011; Lehman Scharer, 1996), and eventually , for students only to experience low‐level cognitive learning ( Bloome, 2015). Bloome suggested that rather than employing I R E structures, teachers should have other instructional strategies that make it possible for students to get engaged in dialogic interaction. Having the opportunities to talk in a discussion setting is an important process of learning for students. It is an opportunity for them to share knowledge, exchange ideas and make meanings be them in dyadic, triadic, or whole classroom discussion settings( Goffman, 1981). In regards to ( informal) talk between students, Goffman said that it is more loosely connected to the world than other kinds of utterances like formal or ritualized speeches (1974, p. 502). Parallels Between Heart of Darkness and Apocalypse Now Various parallels can be drawn when comparing and contrasting Joseph Conrad s Heart of Darkness and Frank Coppola s Apocalypse Now , while taking into consideration Heart of Darkness is a novella and Apocalypse Now is a film. These differences and similarities can be seen in themes, characters, events and other small snippets of information including anything from quoted lines to strange actions of the main characters. Both pieces follow the same story line but they are presented in different contexts, allowing for many differences as well as the ability to see how Conrad is able to write a piece of literature that can be transposed to many different settings regardless the time period and still convey the same message of colonialism. ... It shows how `fire happy these men were ready to fight and kill without a motive. Heart of Darkness and Apocalypse Now both embody the theme of madness and insanity. In Heart of Darkness madness and insanity come as a result of imperialism, Africa is responsible for mental disintegration as well as for physical illness. Madness, in Heart of Darkness, is the result of being removed from ones normal environment and how each person adapts and then re adapts to society. The same theme of madness and insanity can be seen in Coppola s Apocalypse Now. Many of the soldier s are just kids, barely 18 or 19, and have little mental stability, since being thrown into a context that is so foreign to them, where their life is on the line every minute. Men like Chef and Lance are ready to snap at any moment because of the shock and realization of where they are, what they are doing, and the fear of not knowing where they are headed. Coppola confronts the insanity of war through Kurtz and the other young men, he is able to depict what it was like for these men, and why so many men after serving in Vietnam suffered Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome. • 27. Simplified Evolution Model Of The Genetic Landscape Figure 10: Simplified evolution model of the genetic landscape in melanoma development and progression30. In sequence, melanoma formation is initiated by activating mutation in BRAF from the ERK MAPK pathway, which induces senescence forming a nevus. Mutation of TERT promoter, which increases transcriptional activity, as well as disruption of cell cycle control that abrogates cell cycle arrest (elevated levels observed in melanoma in situ) are events that allows the bypass of OIS mechanism proceeding towards melanoma transformation. Copy number alteration (CNA) is observed exclusively in invasive malignant melanoma alongside mutations in p53 and PTEN tumor suppressors suggesting that these alterations are important in the event of cancer cell invasion and dissemination. Mutation burden, specifically point mutations (indicative of UVR damage) increases throughout progression. Frequency of the driver oncogenes remains constant throughout tumor progression. 9. Management and therapeutic approach of disease Surgical removal is the standard treatment for localized primary melanomas. Localized melanomas are exceedingly curable when removed properly within the recommended excision margins (maximum 2cm according to the National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN) guidelines for melanoma). However, as melanoma progresses, it becomes increasingly difficult to treat as the disease is likely to recur and become more resilient to the immune system as well as treatment. The average ... Could this be retribution for the people s sins and God has a plan, or would this be the fatal disease that would lead people to question their faith in God? Giovanni Boccaccio saw first hand what the Black Death did to his country, how disease flooded throughout and death was inevitable. Everything was changing, people were losing faith, the preservation of food, and simple customs like burial rituals started to disappear. Health and Religion were the key factors in the changing and modernization of early western Europe, these reflect on the poor hygiene, social order, decline in old customs and faith issues that occurred in the late Medieval world. The Black Death had made its way to the west, people knew by the many signs of sickness that they would only have a couple of days left to live. The main symptom of the pestilence was a large tumor that would turn into black or gray spots around the body, which was an infallible token of approaching death . Western Europe was scrambling to find answers as to what was happening to their people, doctors were unable to provide medicine or cures for the diseased people. He did this after cheating Virgil out of the $1000 Duddy originally owed him and instead giving a truck he was getting for free. Regardless of this however, Duddy s misdeeds still outweigh the good he has done. In regards to him being altruistic, it is often the case that he is altruistic for a selfish reason. • 30. Execution Poem Analysis In this poem Execution written by Edward Hirsch tells a philosophical reflection expressed with sadness about a sicken high school football coach who is extremely passionate. The overview of this poem is centered around his favorite word execution. Execution is expressed in multiple ways in this poem. Life was about football for the coach, he would pour in his blood sweat and tears to the game. There was no that he received every inch of effort from his player. Countless hours of preparation, practice, and energy was devoted. You would think working this hard would bring upon serious exhaustion, but the coach was like an energizer bunny, he would keep going. Unfortunately this lifestyle caught up with him, the speaker says he developed cancer. I believe that he spent too much time on the game of football. Ultimately this is what lead to his illness, the neglection of his self for the game that he loved. Details from the poem will be used to argue my claim. These details are relevant to how the coach acted and his philosophies. The significance that we get out of my claim is thought provoking. The type of execution he was preaching to the team went into full effect in the form of cancer towards him. Let me start off by saying that the coach had great intentions for the way he coached. Hardnosed, no nonsense guy, who taught discipline. Learning the art of discipline helps you on the field, but the results are even more notable off the field in everyday life. You cannot go wrong with being a disciplined individual. Real big on fundamentals, a perfectionist at teaching them. The speaker states, And had perfect unquestioning faith in the fundamentals of blocking and talking, the idea of warfare without suffering or death, the concept of teammates moving in harmony like planets. An architect at work piecing together a formula to prepare his team the best way he can. Losing was not an option, the speaker says that the coach despised losing. I personally hate losing myself so I can relate. Losing to me is like getting stabbed in the back. It hurts tremendously to not come out victorious. I do not fault the coach for putting the team through strenuous drills or drilling formations and plays in their head. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 32. Ignorance Is Eyewitness The Second Law of Thermodynamics states that in an isolated system, there will be a natural tendency towards a more disordered state. When things or ideas are separated from each other, they are perceived to be organized. On the other hand, when things or ideas are all mushed together, they are deemed unorganized. The proverb, Ignorance is bliss , represents a very orderly state where opposites are separated. In contrast, the proverb, The truth shall set you free , signifies a disordered state where opposites are mixed together. Therefore, according to The Second Law of Thermodynamics, there is a natural tendency for opposites to combine. The Book of Job features many instances of the mixing of opposites, which leads Job to see the world differently. The first time opposites combined occurs during the very beginning of the book. Job begins with a large amount of animals and plenty of children, however a few moments later, Job loses everything that he had and suffers.
