The most important part of the Charter of Rights and Freedoms is the Equality Rights, which states
that everyone is equal in the eyes of the law and is entitled to the equal benefit of the law (Canadian
Charter of Rights and Freedoms, s 15). This is commonly interpreted to mean that all citizens are
entitled to the positives of Canadian law. Unfortunately, this is not the reality of the legal system.
Quite frequently certain citizens are allowed special benefits after being found guilty. The reality is:
police officers, at any level, receive lesser sentences than regular citizens for the same or similar
crimes. This preferential practice is proven when cases are examined and compared to the Criminal
Code as well as comparable cases. Cases ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Robinson, a then corporal in the RCMP, was off duty at a party where he consumed multiple beers.
After the party, Robinson decided to drive home, despite his intoxication, and on his journey, he hit
and killed a twenty one year old motorcyclist named Orion Hutchinson. Robinson then drove off and
when he returned home he consumed two more shots of vodka, in order to skew the breathalyzer
results. After an investigation, Robinson was charged with obstruction of justice for consuming the
shots. He was never charged with anything relating to the death of Hutchinson, even though,
according to the Criminal Code, Robinson committed Impaired Driving Causing Death; which is
described as [operating] a motor vehicle...while the person s ability to operate the vehicle...is impaired
by alcohol or a drug (Criminal Code, s 253). When one causes death whilst impaired there is a
maximum sentence of life in prison. Again, this is a maximum, and it s unreasonable to expect the
maximum every time a crime is committed. However, in a similar case where a man hit and killed a
pedestrian whilst intoxicated a sentence of five years imprisonment for Impaired Driving Causing
Death (R. V. Junkert). A similar sentence for Robinson is not unreasonable. Regardless of the logical

Importance of Financial Ratios
Important Financial Ratios in Investment Analysis
Introduction
Financial ratios are derived ratio numbers from the financial statements of a company. Depending on
the task, financial ratios can serve to various purposes in accounting, legal, M A uses, etc. For
investors, financial ratios are very powerful in two ways: indentifying the company s unique
competitiveness and evaluating its stock price level. The first part helps investor find a truly valuable
company and the second part helps investor buy the stock at a bargain price.
Comparison of Financial Ratios
With few exceptions, a great company must have strong competitiveness in its products, operation or
management. Financial ratios are a valuable and easy way to interpret the ... Show more content on

In general the more liquid the current assets, the less the margin needed above current liabilities
(Graham, Meredith, p.34, 1998). The quick ratio is more descriptive than the current ration since it
excludes the inventory. For example, Apple, Inc. at the end of Sep 2010 has total current assets
$41,768m with cash and cash equivalents of $11,261m and total current liabilities $20,722m. The
current ratio of Apple is 2.02 and quick ratio 0.54, which are quite superior compared to other
industrial players (Table I). Obviously, we will have no wonder about Apple s profitability when we
are playing with an iPhone 4.
Profitability Ratio
Profitability ratios are direct signs of the company s business strengths. Return on equity is perhaps
the most important goal in operating a company is to earn net income for its owners (Wild, Shaw,
Chiappetta, p.697, 2008). A stable and higher than industry average ROE affirms that the company has
long term competitive advantage in its products or services over competitors that will ensure its future
earning and growth prosperity. The ROE of Apple is 35.28%, which win the top place in the personal
computer sector. It is worth mentioning that professional investors widely employ the so called
DuPont model, which is the net margin times total assets turnover times equity multiplier to compute

Josiah Wedgewood s Life And Work
Josiah Wedgewood (1730 1795) Potter, Craftsman, Entrepreneur His early contribution was a process
of making creamware which was more refined and cheaper and local than the preferred luxury
alternatives. He was a friend and later business partner with Thomas Bently who connected him into
the luxury ceramics market. After securing work for the Queen of England at the time Wedgewood
was able to create the popular Queensware products of ceramics. This caused him to look at
expanding and reimagining his manufacturing process. He created a new process that saved time and
ensured uniformity and high quality in his products. Batch Production was a division of labor that
used small standardized shapes of all his products and used mold over potters wheels to make his
ceramics. Adam Smith (1725 1790) Economist ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His views became popular because of his pin factory analogy which described the process. In it, he

Taylor (18 1915) Engineer Frederick Taylor was an engineer who ran experiments in the 1880 s on the
common manufacturing process of his time. His goal was to increase the productivity of the workers.
The experiments measured the time to perform different tasks. He created recommendations for the
workplace that became business standards and were enforced in the workplace. Businesses used these
as a measure of productivity and rewarded wages and other rewards on a basis of performance. These
changes created a shift in the workplace and a demand for higher compliance became the norm. Taylor
helped create the need for standards in the workplace. Henry Ford (1863 1947)

Film Babies Documentary Analysis
An Analysis of Film Babies within Different Cultures
Thomas Balmes s documentary Babies focuses on four babies born within four different countries.
The babies are from Japan, United States, Mongolia and Namibia and each of the countries have a
different culture. Japan and United States are developed countries; while Mongolia and Namibia are
developing countries. Developed countries have advanced economy and the people have access to
good education and technology. On the other hand, in developing countries, the economy is based on
farming and manufacturing and people lack access to education. Balmes s documentary focuses on

Ponjao stuffed rocks and old bones in his mouth; however, he appeared to be quite healthy though out
the film. This was refreshing because Americans and many people in developed countries coddle their
babies and stress the use of hand sanitizer before picking up a baby. Therefore, this drastic difference
seems to stand out. Furthermore, BayarJargai, baby from Mongolia, also spend time in close
proximity with goats and he appeared quite healthy. BayarJargai was also climbing an empty barrel
when a herd of cows came towards him in the film, but the child did not appear to be frightened at all.
BayarJargai ignored the animals surrounding him while he sat on the barrel. This appeared significant
because many children at his age would scream when they see an herb of farm animals coming his/her
way. BayarJargai most likely appeared unaffected because he had previously seen his family members
with the farming animals and he was mimicking his parents emotions. One unique cultural
information about BayarJargai parents was that they tied him to the bed as he played with toilet paper
to prevent him from causing trouble. This might be considered okay in Mongolian culture, however if
parents in American culture tied their child to the bed, they would get their child taken away. As a
result, there is huge cultural variation between the two

Visual Analysis Of Into The Wild By Ryan Harvey
When I looked through the TCC NW student collection, I got to appreciate a lot of art that I had never
paid attention to before. There were a lot of great pieces, but the first one that really spoke to me was
Into the Wild by Ryan Harvey. This painting, featuring a scared young boy has a very clear mood and
theme, and I feel like there are many meanings that can be taken from it. Ryan Harvey uses light and
color to really push his message, and he makes the viewer really feel the emotion in the painting.
From an objective standpoint, there are two main focal points. The first one is a young boy, maybe 4
years old. He has a blank expression on his face as he looks straight out into the lens. The boy is the
only part ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I think that the author does an amazing job portraying his idea without having to tell us very much.
This is not to say though, that I agree with his message. Harvey seems to be saying we are born pure
and are corrupted by the world as we grow, but I strongly disagree with this. As we go on through life,
we meet new people and learn new things. Even though there are times where things can be going
downhill, generally people will move up throughout their life, rather than falling back. Although I don
t agree with his message, I can definitely understand where he comes from. There are some ways in
which the blissful ignorance of childhood is better than knowing the truth, but as you grow you learn
to become a part of the world, and whether you choose to go down the light or the dark path is your
own choice to make. In conclusion, Ryan Harvey s Into the Wild, is a great example of how a picture
is worth a thousand words. Harvey tells us a whole story, of a young boy and his purity along with
foreshadowing his inevitable descent into the gloomy world around him. Into the Wild seems to have a
pessimistic viewpoint on the world, which I personally don t agree with, but the message in itself is
powerful; and the use light and color really do their part in pushing the message, making the viewer
really feel the emotion in the

Abortion Is A Legal Medical Operation
Abortion is a legal medical operation which the government cannot control a woman s private health
care decisions. Since abortion was legalized in 1973, nearly 1,500,000 babies have been aborted each
year. In the last year there have been attacks on organizations that provide health care services and
abortion care or abortion as part of counseling services. Around the country, states have passed laws to
defund planned parenthood and to prevent them from participating in public health care programs.
Politicians manipulate laws from federal family planning funding organizations to tax credit programs
to subvert an organization that even mentions abortion. Legislation is willing to sacrifice domestic
violence shelters as collateral damage ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
During the late 1960s and the early 1970s, the United States performed reforms that made abortions
available. Abortion was defined as a health right and it allowed the procedure when doctors concluded
it was medically necessary. The supreme court appointed for life issued sweeping rules that shocked
the lawyers for expanded abortion rights. The public opinion defined abortion as a privacy right and
open abortions at the request of a pregnant woman. Opponents of abortion came back with strong
complaints that assumed the power of democratically elected legislatures. There are six main ways to
abort a baby. The first is RU 486, it is a drug that promotes abortion taken after the mother misses her
period. It can only be used up to the second month of pregnancy by blocking progesterone from
developing the baby. Then a second drug is taken to stimulate the uterus to contract and the baby is
then expelled. Women who choose this procedure will experience severe cramping, bleeding, and
vomiting. The second is suction aspiration paralyzing the cervical muscle and the abortionist inserts a
plastic tube with a knife edge into the uterus. The baby is busted into pieces then sucked out through
the cut opening of the uterine wall into a bottle. With very heavy bleeding dilation abortion is the third

The Corruption of Downloading Music
Digitally illegal music file sharing is now mainstream. But should it be legal to those who have broken
the law against the music industry and its artists? More specifically by RIAA the criminal can be
charged by up to five years of jail time and fines up to $250,000. Some people agree that music files
should be digitally shared, so everyone can have easy access to their favorite music without spending
a substantial amount of money. But not everyone agrees with this idea. Some people believe that
music file sharing should be illegal since record companies and artists have lost an enormous account
of income because of the drops of the sales. There is a variety of different points of aspects on if
digitally music file sharing should be illegal or not. There are many people ,including artists and
people related to the music industry business, that they are totally against music piracy because of
morals and economic related issues.
The first massive strike on the record industry (RIAA) reports that music sales in the United States
have dropped 47 percent since Napster came out in 1999. The availability of free music has cost the
music industry $12.5 billion in economic losses. To regain some of these losses, the record industry
has filed lawsuits against individuals who have been found to own downloaded music files. In some
cases, some of those individuals have been sued for thousands, if not hundreds of thousands of dollars.

The Impact Of NCSAAnd The Native Corporation System On...
In considering how Natives have been treated in American history, it can be surmised that NCSA and
the Native corporation system have been good for Alaska Natives. For the most part, ANCSA and the
Native corporation system have had a positive impact on Alaska Natives. For example, in that era of
American history, ANCSA was the largest land claim settlement. And for another example, the Native
corporation system was set up in a way, that it safeguarded the land and cash settlement, so it would
profit future generations of Alaska Natives and nonnatives as well. Nevertheless, ANCSA and the
Native corporation system have had a negative impact as well. Such as, ANCSA was not seen as a
good deal for all the Alaskan Natives. Because ANCSA caused confusion over governing structures of
the tribes, many Natives believed that ANCSA made their tribes weak. Furthermore, during their first
twenty years, the Alaska Native regional corporations endured huge profits losses in their effort to

Fine and his team to travel to Newark to examine the children s health. The study design for the
longitudinal study of AA was to assess Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans carriage in relation to
the initiation of LAP in healthy children from Newark. For the analysis, some samples were retrieved
from the initial visit and prior visit, which included saliva and plaque. After collection of samples, the
sites were evaluated for any bone loss and evaluation of any healthy remain in some patients. The
diseased patients were matched with AA positive and healthy patients were matched with AA
negative. The time frame for this study was to follow the patients every 6 months and have a new
study every 3 months to obtain more clinical samples. A healthy patient would have 5 mm pockets or
less while a diseased patient would have radiographic evidence of bone loss plus a shadow showing an
interproximal bone loss. The goal of this study was to find biomarkers (microbial and host) that occurs
in early stages of the disease and was divided into three stages: selection visit, screening visit, and
follow up visits. Selection visit was to evaluate 2500 children (11 14 years of age) and collect the
BECs and saliva for AA carriage assessment (in classroom) and assessment of host factors (for the
lab). During the screening visit, 250 AA positive and 250 AA negative adolescents were determined to
see if they were periodontally healthy; this included a collection of BECs (bacteria) and saliva (host).
For the follow up visits during the longitudinal phase, there was 170 AA positive and 210 AA negative

disease to who remains healthy and to examine for host and microbial markers in these two groups of
subjects during several visits prior to disease

The Pros And Cons Of Valley Forge
There s a part on a word doc. for the conclusion.
Valley Forge
I am a soldier at Valley Forge, sacrificing myself for my suffering country so that we all can be free
from Britain s control. I am in tatter d clothes and have barely enough food to survive, but I ll go
through this just so my country doesn t have to suffer any more. The war started on December 1777,
me along with the rest of the army camped out at Valley Forge (Roden 141). A few young women
developed scarlet fever, a fascination with British soldiers and their bright red coats (Roden 141).
My nine month term has ended for serving in the war and I have the option to re enlist or not to re
enlist. Furthermore, after putting some thought into it, I have decided to re enlist because more people
will suffer if I leave. Britain, with an army to enforce her tyranny, has declared that she has a right (not
only to TAX) but to BIND us in ALL CASES WHATSOEVER, and if being bound in that manner, is
not slavery, then is there not such a thing as slavery upon earth (Paine 153). I m fighting for my
country s freedom, if I leave George Washington it s less likely we ll win, and Britain will have
forever control over us and they will tax and makes us slaves if we do not cooperate they could even
put us in jail . Congress came to help because of the bad conditions (Powell 149). Many of us have no
shoes and tatter d clothes if I leave more people will have these conditions even with congress help.

But more important question is whether this really led to better quality and transparency of
accounting. 4. Conclusion Main focus of IASB for introducing new standard for business
combinations was that financial statements of companies became more realistic and to represent real
economic position and value of a company. Therefore restriction to acquisition method as the only
option for business combination is the advantage of new standard since using this method, companies
do not have a choice whether to recognize goodwill arising from business combinations. Amortization
was changed with impairment because amortization of goodwill can lead to arbitrary accounting
according to IASB (Shinhan Financial Group n.d., p. 4). Problem arising is that impairment test and
determination of recoverable amount require an active market with homogenies assets and available
prices which is hard to determine as far as intangibles are concerned. Consequently, this leads to more
subjective decisions regarding measurement and leaves a lot of space for management impact on
goodwill. Therefore aim of IASB for transparency and full fair value model is not realized. Although
IASB and FASB are making a lot of efforts, universally accepted treatment of goodwill still does not
exist. Therefore this will remain controversial topic among economists until creators of financial
standards find better solution for goodwill accounting. Reference

Compressions In Geoffrey Chaucer s The Canterbury Tales
Geoffrey Chaucer wrote The Canterbury Tales to communicate moral lessons of his time that still
influence society today. The Canterbury Tales is a story of a pilgrimage of twenty nine characters to
the Canterbury Cathedral. On the way, each character had to tell two tales as well as two on the way
home. These tales provided entertainment for the characters on their trip. The tales are told by the
narrator, and his viewpoints on the characters reflect Chaucer s opinions towards the characters. The
tales that each character tells are each unique to each person, but through analyzing them further it is
seen that the tales share many similarities. In both tales, the main character has a different outer
impression which hides the Pardoner s and the Wife of Bath s true inner characteristics from society.
Chaucer reveals their inner characteristics through the characters tales and how they present them. In
the Canterbury Tales, Chaucer conveys a theme that although individuals set first impressions based
on appearance, the reality of their true character is often masked by how they appear.
The general and character prologue in The Canterbury Tales gives initial physical descriptions of the
Wife of Bath and the Pardoner which helps reinforce the theme that appearance often masks reality. In
the general prologue of the Wife of Bath, she is described at first as somdel deef which gives her a
negative outer appearance which follows her throughout her description as an attractive and

Thesis About Snow Treasure
Have you ever thought about your country having a war with other country?? Snow Treasure by Marie
McSwigan is a sad and memorable story of children carrying gold in Norway(Norway is their country)
and adults fighting with Germans. This story is important to people who think war is nothing. Because
in this story, they show how they are having a hard time during the war. I really admire character Jan
Lasek, who is a Pole but he was once German solider. Then you ll ask me why. Because he risked his
life to save Peter from German army.
This story takes place in Norway during a war with Germans. The protagonist is Peter, a brave young

It s important because it shows how much hard time they are having during the war and it teaches you
how people get hurt by war. In the war between Norway and German, children always have to pull
gold on the sled because Germans can take them. They carry more than 100kg. It will be really hard.
And by hurting, sure it can be like shooting gun hurting, but if our heart hurts, it really hurts. Like
with war, when people pass away, think about it. How will their family feel?? Really, really sad. So I
think like war, we shouldn t make it happen.
I was able to identify with Peter who was afraid at first to be the leader but later on he did a great job.
I strongly recommend this book because it is touching and it shows how children has done a great job,
with very responsible actions. I was very moved with Jan Lasek because even if he can die, he risked
his life for Peter. How touching and amazing is that?? I think I can t have done it. I was inspired with
Uncle Victor s idea. If children is around, who would think they are carrying a gold?? It was a great
idea. It taught me that if we really want something, they risk their lifes to. Like for example, if my
mother is sick, than I ll do anything to fix it. Won t you?
It s a interesting story. It really made me sweat some times. And you ll be moved with what Jan Lasek
has done for Peter. I really loved this book. I recommend to all my

This piece of art work is so eye catching and really shows many characteristics of the Romantic
period. Just from the first glimpse of this piece of artwork, one can be filled with unbridled, deep felt
emotion. This piece of artwork has some very emotional extremes. The bodies of the people that are
laying on the raft, most of them are dead, but others look as if they are in pain and are suffering. The
facial expressions of these people are are not good. Some look as if they are being tortured, some look

Use Of Technology For Preventing Drowsiness At The Time
Various investigation show that driver s drowsiness is one of the main cause of road accidents. The
development of technology for preventing drowsiness at the time is a major challenge in the field of
accidents avoidance. The advance in computing technology has provided the means for building
intelligent vehicle system. The purpose of this study is to detect the drowsiness in driver to prevent
accidents and to improve safety on the highway. The aim of this project is to design an Accident
Prevention System which helps in preventing or avoiding accidents.
A real time face detection is implemented to locate driver s face region. A method of detecting
drowsiness in drivers developed by using a camera that points directly towards the driver face and
capture for the video. As a detection method, the system uses image processing technology using
MATLAB to analysis images of the driver face taken with the help of video camera. The captured
video is done, it is converted into numbers of frame of face and monitoring of the face region and eyes
in order to detect drowsiness. The system is able to monitoring eyes and determine whether the eyes
are in an open or closed. This detection system provides a non contact technique for judging various
level of alertness and facilitates early detection of a decline in alertness during driving.

William Blake William Blake was born in 1757, the third son of a London hosier. Blake lived in or
near to London, a city which dominates much of his work, whether as the nightmare London of the
Songs of Experience, or the London which Blake saw as the New Jerusalem , the kingdom of God on
earth. As the son of a hosier, a generally lower middle class occupation in late eighteenth century
London, he was brought up in a poor household, a preparation for the relative poverty in which he
would live for most of his life. He also received little formal schooling, which is all the more
remarkable given both the depth and range of his reading of the Bible, of Milton and Greek and Latin
classic literature, evident throughout his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
From 1779 he was employed as an engraver for a local Bookseller, and Blake continued to earn an
often precarious living from contracted engraving until, with the help of his friend John Flaxman
(1755 1826), he was able to set up his own engraving business at 27 Broad Street, which proved not to
be a successful enterprise. It is from this point, 1784, that Blake s career as an engraver poet prophet
began in earnest. Working with the help of his dedicated wife Catherine Boucher (the daughter of a
market gardener, whom he married in 1782), Blake divided his time between composing and
engraving illustrated poetry, and eking out a precarious living as a contract engraver. His first works in
illustrated painting All Religions Are One and There is No Natural Religion (1788) followed on from
the satirical verse of An Island in the Moon (1784 5), but it was in 1789, the year of the French
Revolution and the Storming of the Bastille, that saw Blake s early masterpieces, The Book of Thel
and Songs of Innocence. Between 1789 and 1800, when the Blake s moved to Felpham, Blake was
ferociously active, composing The Marriage of Heaven and Hell (1790 93), The French Revolution
(1791), America: A Prophecy (1793), Visions of the Daughters of Albion (1793), The Book of Urizen
(1794), the Songs of Experience (1793 4), Europe: A

Gibbs Bridge Myths
Introduction:
Gibbs Bridge is nothing more than a small, slightly spooky bridge in the middle of nowhere. Yet
stories are spread stating that it is haunted. Stories about Gibbs Bridge have been making their way
around the city of Sylvania for years, being passed down as a local legend of sorts. At first glance, this
small bridge may seem inconspicuous but with some digging, it is revealed that this bridge has many
stories attached to it. The bridge itself was built in 1923, and is located on Gibbs Road in Sylvania,
Ohio not too far from the Michigan border. A picture of where exactly the bridge is located can be
found in appendix A. Aside from the year it was built, not much else is known about the bridge yet if
the legends are consulted ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to the story, there was a nasty car accident that occurred on the bridge during that time in
which some local students were killed. Now it is said that those who lost their lives in that horrific
crash haunt the bridge, if you visit the bridge at night the sounds of screeching tires, breaking glass,
and oddly enough laughter can be heard. Also, dark, shadowy figures are said to chase people off the
bridge if they walk across it. Another quite popular legend that is often told is called Xanadu. This
story claims that a young man was decapitated by two of his friends who attempted to play a prank on
him. The young man s friends strung fishing line across the bridge and waited for the man on the
motorcycle to cross. His body ended up crossing the bridge, but his head did not. He was decapitated
by the fishing line and is now said to haunt the bridge. In keeping with the legend if the participant
goes to the bridge at night and flashes their headlights three times a motorcycle headlight will appear
out of nowhere as well as the sounds of a motorcycle followed by a man screaming. Many other
stories are told about the bridge, including; a girl hanging herself due to an unrequited love, a young
girl getting hit by a car, an angry farmer chasing people off the bridge with his truck or shooting at
them, and like any good haunted location the bridge is a popular site among Satan

Street Vending
Abstract
Various factors influence people s choice of trading location. This paper analyses why street vendors
despite the provision of formal market infrastructure still decide to trade from the streets. Theories of
the informal economy were adopted to get insights into the issues of street vending. Based on survey
results the study establishes that for street vendors accessibility of customers is a key consideration
and they strategically locate on the streets to avoid formalisation costs such as rent, taxes and licences.
Whereas for market traders selling from the formal market, a secure and clean environment is
important. Therefore, policies of the informal economy should take into account the nuances and
heterogeneity of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There were designated places where one would litter and refuse collection was order of the day. With
wonderful vegetation in the city s river banks that made the towns look green and beautiful, it was
everybody s wish to stay in town.
As years went by, the situation slowly changed, the beauty dramatically lost and the cleanliness
completely gone. Today, litter is everywhere, and surely an eyesore. The available rivers in our cities
that people used to be proud of, now have no water and are a source of pungent smells following piles
of waste, which is quite hazardous to the health of humans as well as plants and animals.
There could be many causes to this change and different people would give different reasons.
One reason had been the coming in of street vending. Though it would be difficult to tell how vending
slowly became part of our living in cities, it must be acknowledged that this trend led to unplanned
expanded settlements. Many people trekked from the rural areas to settle in towns and cities with a
belief that an available occupation was on the street.
The streets were therefore full of people and activities, which resulted in lack of proper sanitation
facilities and overcrowded conditions. This also posed a high risk of communicable diseases and
caused additional pressure on management of waste. Our towns and cities today

The Core Values Of Zappos
The holacratic model has, already, been adopted by for profit and non profit organizations in several
countries. For the purpose of an incubation chamber, Zappos.com has been the first organizational
reality to deploy it. Zappos is an online shoe and clothing shop founded in 1999 and owned by
Amazon since 2009. During the negotiations with Amazon, internal management s primary concern
was to maintain the company culture intact throughout the acquisition process, because a culture that
embraces the idiosyncrasies of each individual is what keeps the firm alive and healthy. Such an
emphasis on employees manifested itself in drawing up the ten core values of the Zappos family:
deliver wow through service;
embrace and drive change;
create fun and a little weirdness;
be adventurous, creative, and open minded;
pursue growth and learning;
build open and honest relationships with communication;
build a positive team and family spirit;
do more with less;
be passionate and determined;
be humble.
The company has, even, its own consulting unit to help others emulate the Zappos way and folklore.
In 2015, Zappos formerly adopted Holacracy. One of Holacracy s most significant innovations is
making governance something that happens at every level of the organization. Governance becomes

The effect of constant dose of sevin (3.0mg / KgBW) on whole and five different parts of rat brain
AChE (2a) and NOS (2b) at various time post injection
DISCUSSION
The analyses demonstrated extensive contrast in ChE and NOS activities in the different parts of rat
brain. The most astounding action was distinguished in the brain stem and cerebellum, bring down in
basal ganglia and the least in the frontal cortex. The high NOS activity in the cerebellum is in
concurrence with the outcomes portrayed by other authors.(13,14,15,16) In the present work, the i.p
infusion of various dosages of the carbamate sevin brought about the inhibition of both ChE and NOS.
Moreover past reviews demonstrated that the organochlorine and organophosphorus mixes attributable
to their lipophilic nature, tie to the hydrophobic area of CaM and in this way impede CaM subordinate
NOS activities like Ca2+ATPase phosphodiestrase.(16)
The present work demonstrated that the restraint of ChE and NOS activities expanded with expanding
the concentrations of sevin i.e. dosage reliance. The

Difference Between Starbucks And Tata
Process of Negotiation
The negotiation between Starbucks and Tata began in January 2011, this carried on for a period of one
year where they both discussed the terms and conditions of the agreement. During the period of the
negotiation, both the parties had discussed their interests.
The Government of India at that time had loosened the regulations where foreign single brand
companies could start investing in India, but, despite the norms being more relaxed, Starbucks had
decided to use other ways of entering into India. Starbucks had met up with Tata Global Beverages

Never Let Me Fate
Most people plan their future out for themselves, getting the education they need to grow up to do
what they love. However, in the novel Never Let Me go by Kazuo Ishiguro, things are uniquely
different for the children at Hailsham. The children who attend Hailsham are clones, who have had
their entire future planned out for them by society, to donate their vital organs for humans who need
them. Even though this may seem like a terrible situation to be born into, the clones do not try to
change their fate, and accept it with little resistance. One of the reasons that they accept this as their
fate, is that they are simply raised with the idea, therefore it is all that they know, it is normal for them.

Due to the fact that they have been raised with this mindset they have no outside perspective on how

may have no problem knowing that this is their fate, because they don t have any idea of what they

as regular people to give them the most normal life possible, by reassuring the children that their

Essay on Leonardo Da Vinci
Leonardo Da Vinci
Most people probably think of Leonardo Da Vinci as just a painter but in reality he was actually also a
expert drawer, an ingenious inventor, and a marvelous scientist. Over a period of twenty five years
Leonard dissected around thirty human bodies as well as cows, birds, frogs, bears, and monkeys. Of
these bodies he made over two hundred tedious drawings. Another thing to remember is beings the
process of drawing took so long the bodies would start decomposing before he was finished with all of
the drawings in which he intended to make. Leonardo Da Vinci was born on Saturday April 15, 1452.

As most people know Leonardo was a magnificent artist however some people don t realize being an
artist doesn t always mean you re good at painting and drawing. Leonardo was originally brought to
the Moor who ruled the duchy of Milan by music not art. The Moor became Leonardo s patron after
Leonardo painted an altarpiece for the Church of San Francesco Grande. When the Moor decided to
make a bronze statue of his father on horseback Leonardo stepped up to take on the task. Leonardo
planned to make the horse first then make the rider separately and add it on later. He studied horses
drawing the best the Moor had in his stable he also measured them even dissecting horses to make
sure he had the plans just right. In 1493 Leonardo displayed his clay model that was full size. He still
had to cast the enormous statue, which could prove to be the hardest part of making the sculpture. He
invented a new way to get all the molten bronze into the mold quickly so it didn t crack when it
cooled. When all the bronze required to make the statue (more than seventy tons) was gathered and the
molds made the Moor used the bronze to make cannons. The would be eighth wonder of the world
was never cast and when the French captured Milan in 1499 the soldiers used Leonardo s clay model
for target practice. It eventually crumbled so even the model of the would be eighth wonder of the

Cancer Is A Disease Of The Cells
Cancer is a disease of the cells, Inside all cells are coded instructions for making new cells and
controlling how cells behave. These coded instructions are genes. Abnormal changes in genes can turn
normal ovarian cells to cancer cells. Normal cells grow and divided to make new cells. New cells are
made as the body needs them to replace injured or dying cells. When normal cells grow old or get
damaged, they die. Cancer cells don t do that. The changes in genes causes cancer cells to make too
many copies of themselves (National comprehensive cancer network,2015).
Cancer cells make new cells that aren t needed and don t die quickly when old or damaged. Most
times cancer cells grow and divide enough to form a mass or tumour. The first tumour formed by the
overgrowth of cancer cell is known as the primary tumour.
Ovarian cancer is the most deadly type of gynecologic malignancy in the United States (Morgan et
al.,2013). While there are multiple histological subtypes of ovarian cancer, epithelial cell types are the
most common variant and therefore contribute greatly to the morbidity and mortality attributed to
ovarian malignancy (Quirk and Natarajan,2005 ). Serous epithelial tumors have the highest incidence
noted to constitute about 70% of tumors of epithelial origin, while other subtypes comprise the
remaining cases, most commonly mucinous, endometrioid, and clear cell (Irving et al.,
2006,McCluggage, 2011). Demo graphically, white women have the highest incidence of

Of Justice In William Shakespearer, Hamlet, And Thomas...
William Shakespeare s King Lear, Hamlet, and Thomas Hardy s Mayor of Casterbridge each examine
both the search for and the effects of justice. King Lear is a case study of a failed monarch and his
remorse for not having been a better king. Hamlet tasks a teenage boy with avenging his father s
death, prompting questions about morality and righteousness. The Mayor of Casterbridge is a man s
attempts to reconcile his shortcomings with what he feels is right. Tragically, in each of these works
the search for justice, or the character s flawed understanding of it, is ultimately unsuccessful,
resulting in injustice towards others. King Lear is defined by the figurehead monarch s quest for what
he sees as justice for himself. After Goneril and Regan betray him by refusing to house his nights,
King Lear calls upon the heavens avenge him and punish his daughters with a storm. O heavens, he
implores, If you do love old men, if your sweet sway Show obedience, if you yourselves are old,
Make it your cause. Send down, and take my part (2.4.217 220). These lines, uttered in the raw
emotion of a man who feels wronged by those he loves, are representative of Lear s temper and
distress when things don t go his way. His daughters perceived insult to him spurs a helpless call for
justice from the gods, a justice Lear no longer can carry out because he has divested himself of power.
Lear s inability to forcefully delve justice This hearkens back to his overhasty reaction towards

Almost never is anything written about the underlying social implications of marriage and
relationships. It is worthwhile to note that this story quietly shows that in the exclusiveness of
marriage, certain outside relationships can either cultivate or destroy lives depending on the
relationship shared by a married couple. A lot of troubled marriages continue to crumble because
spouses fail to try to solve their problems. However, this is not to say that marriages are an easy
undertaking. In the story, Robert acts as a catalyst to bring the couple s marital problems up to the
surface. He is not the root cause of the married couple s disputes as the narrator wrongly thinks. As
Raymond Carver has demonstrated in Cathedral, close outside friendships can threaten marital
relationships by provoking insecurities, creating feelings of invasion of privacy, and aggravating
communication barriers. But the story also suggests that if those who are married share a mutual
understanding of their expectations and boundaries this need not happen. In addition, congenial
relationships outside marriage such as friendships should complement a nurturing and loving

North American and European Airline Industry Essay

The Airline industry is one of the world s largest industries generating over $300 billion in revenues in
2001 alone and additionally has the second highest industrial growth rate, after the computer industry,
with typical growth rates of 3 5% per annum over the last 20 years (Humphreys, 2003; BA Fact book,

For the purpose of this assignment, freight/cargo airline activities will not be considered as freight
travel consists of only 2 % of total airline activity (see figure 3.1 and appendix 1) (BA Fact book,

This has had significant implications for an industry which relies on these passengers for
approximately two thirds of its revenue (Economist, 2001). The reduction in business passenger
numbers has resulted not only in adding to the already existing overcapacity problem but also in
increasing competitive pressures, the resultant effect being a persistent downtrend in airfares. In fact,
after adjusting for inflation airline revenues per passenger kilometre are about half the level of 30
years ago (BA Fact Book, 2002). The birth of the low cost carriers and the increasing market share
they have acquired has further exacerbated this downward trend as passengers become more price
sensitive.
1.2 Political Forces facing the airline industry
The airline industry is also very much in the political frontline (see figure 1.1). The implications of

traffic has since improved, it is nevertheless still below pre September 11 levels. Furthermore, the
knock on effects it has had in other areas of the industry, most notably the vertiginous rise in the cost
of insurance and security, has further added to the economic woes of the industry. Since the attacks

Apothecaries During The Renaissance Era

During this time in history new ideas were being formed. Trade started to flourish and a new banking

Should Children Get Paid For Good Grades Essay
A child comes home from school, crying. She holds her report card in shaking hands, and knows what
will happen to her. She got a C on her report card, unlike all of her friends, who got A s. She knows
now that she will be the only girl in her class not to get paid for getting a good mark. This young girl,
with tears in her eyes, knows that she tried her best, but it still wasn t enough to earn her a cash sum.
There are a few reasons why children should not get paid for good grades. First, they lose out on
valuable life lessons. Second, it is hard to provide the money for all of the children that get A s. Third,
it can become a competition and can cause problems amongst friends and family. Finally, children
aren t mentally prepared for handling the stress of money.
First of all, children lose out on valuable life lessons. Paying for a child s good grades will stop the
child from learning about getting achievements for the pride, not for the reward. It can also enforce in
a child the message that the only rewards you want from life is money. We expect students to get good
grades, so why should we be paying them for something expected of them?
We can also be telling kids to find an easy route to get the best rewards, making them lose the life
lesson of working hard to get what you want. Kirabo Jackson, an assistant professor, says By
rewarding people for a GPA, you re actually giving them an impetus to take an easier route through

The Effect Of Ph On The Function Of The Enzyme Amylase
Discussion Effect of pH on the Function of the Enzyme Amylase
The objective of the lab was to examine the effects of environmental variables on the functions of an
enzyme. To the point, an experiment was conducted to test the effect of pH on the function of the
enzyme Amylase. Enzymes are proteins that act as catalysts and help reactions take place. In short,
enzymes reduce the energy needed for a reaction to take place, permitting a reaction to take place
more easily. Some enzymes are shape specific and reduce the energy for certain reactions. Enzymes
have unique folds of the amino acid chain which result in specifically shaped active sites (Frankova
Fry 2013). When substrates fit in the active site of an enzyme, then it is able to catalyze the reaction.
Enzyme activity is affected by the concentrations of the enzymes and substrate present (Worthington
2010). As the incidence of enzyme increases, the rate of reaction increases. Additionally, as the
incidence of substrate increases so does the rate of reaction. Almost all enzymes need specific
conditions for them to function. The conditions include temperature, pH level, and concentration of
salt. Enzymes have optimal conditions. If they are changed, the enzyme may denature and deactivate.
If that happens, the enzyme would not be able to catalyze the reaction, and the reaction rate would
decrease (Worthington 2010). Amylase is a digestive enzyme. The enzyme is found in the salivary
glands in your mouth

Da Vinci Code Contradictions
In The Da Vinci Code, a controversial novel about a quest for the real Holy Grail, Dan Brown s
historical claims are grounded in many ideas that have been deemed heretical by the Church. The
controversy in Brown s novel is often based on religious beliefs that are subject to opinions, but
professional logicians and theologians have studied Brown s work to see if the objective components
of his writing are logical and consistent. The search for logic includes questions such as whether
Brown s claims make sense as they stand by themselves or not, and if the claims contradict each other.
While much of Brown s writing is carefully combined into a well written novel, readers can find a few
contradictions within Brown s logical sequence. These contradictory ideas can undermine the novel s
overlying theme and leave readers yearning to further research the validity and probability of the rest
of Brown s claims. One of the most significant themes in Brown s novel is uncovering hidden
meaning in works of art by the famous Leonardo Da Vinci. Brown uses three of Da Vinci s most well
known works of art The Vitruvian Man, the Mona Lisa, and The Last Supper as realistic pieces of
evidence to ground the probability of his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Grail. This may come across as shocking to most Christians, yet Brown claims Da Vinci held a
reputation of practicing spiritual hypocrisy. If Da Vinci had a reputation of incorporating heretical
elements into his Christian artwork, then it would make little sense that he found such great success

Analysis Of Lahiri s The Third And Final Continent
Memory and Relationships in Lahiri s The Third and Final Continent
Each piece of diaspora literature is laced with several underlying themes that make themselves visible
in unique ways. Memory and family are two of these themes that seem to take root in several pieces.
These themes enable the author to add dynamics and depth to anything that they write. A prime
example of these dynamics can be found in Jhumpa Lahiri s The Third and Final Continent. Lahiri
flawlessly uses both of these themes to bring her writing to the next level. In fact, the relationships,
both familial and otherwise, formed in The Third and Final Continent are based heavily on shared
memory and routine. Lahiri proves that shared memories play a huge part in ... Show more content on

Luckily, he did not have to overcome his journey alone. Lahiri incorporates his family life in Calcutta
with his family life in America. His life in Calcutta was not the best that it could have been, he quite
literally watched his mother die. He had to take on a mature role in her passing as he explains that, and
then, because my brother could not bear it, I had assumed the role of the eldest son and had touched
the flame to her temple, to release her tormented soul to heaven, (Lahiri, 5). All of the familial
memories associated with Calcutta seem to be very dark and deep in contrast with the familial
memories the narrator makes in America. Lahiri most likely did this in an effort to show the bettering
and renewal of a life. A very minute detail of this story that resonates deeply would be the narrator s
son. Though he is only mentioned on the last page and not even given a name, he seems to hold a lot
of the weight of the story and underlying themes on his back. The son grows up fully in Massachusetts
and lives life as a Bengali submerged in an American culture. The narrator grows afraid of his son
losing his sense of Bengali pride after the passing of himself and his wife, Mala, and makes it a point
to incorporate Bengali tradition into everyday life as much as possible, as shown on page 14: So we
drive to Cambridge to visit him, or bring him home for a weekend, so that he can eat rice with us with
his hands, and speak Bengali, things we worry he will no longer do

Cecile Fournel The most important part of the Charter of Rights and Freedoms is the Equality Rights, which states that everyone is equal in the eyes of the law and is entitled to the equal benefit of the law (Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, s 15). This is commonly interpreted to mean that all citizens are entitled to the positives of Canadian law. Unfortunately, this is not the reality of the legal system. Quite frequently certain citizens are allowed special benefits after being found guilty. The reality is: police officers, at any level, receive lesser sentences than regular citizens for the same or similar crimes. This preferential practice is proven when cases are examined and compared to the Criminal Code as well as comparable cases. Cases ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Robinson, a then corporal in the RCMP, was off duty at a party where he consumed multiple beers. After the party, Robinson decided to drive home, despite his intoxication, and on his journey, he hit and killed a twenty one year old motorcyclist named Orion Hutchinson. Robinson then drove off and when he returned home he consumed two more shots of vodka, in order to skew the breathalyzer results. After an investigation, Robinson was charged with obstruction of justice for consuming the shots. He was never charged with anything relating to the death of Hutchinson, even though, according to the Criminal Code, Robinson committed Impaired Driving Causing Death; which is described as [operating] a motor vehicle...while the person s ability to operate the vehicle...is impaired by alcohol or a drug (Criminal Code, s 253). When one causes death whilst impaired there is a maximum sentence of life in prison. Again, this is a maximum, and it s unreasonable to expect the maximum every time a crime is committed. However, in a similar case where a man hit and killed a pedestrian whilst intoxicated a sentence of five years imprisonment for Impaired Driving Causing Death (R. V. Junkert). There were a lot of great pieces, but the first one that really spoke to me was Into the Wild by Ryan Harvey. I think that the author does an amazing job portraying his idea without having to tell us very much. This is not to say though, that I agree with his message. Even though there are times where things can be going downhill, generally people will move up throughout their life, rather than falling back. In conclusion, Ryan Harvey s Into the Wild, is a great example of how a picture is worth a thousand words. In considering how Natives have been treated in American history, it can be surmised that NCSA and the Native corporation system have been good for Alaska Natives. And for another example, the Native corporation system was set up in a way, that it safeguarded the land and cash settlement, so it would profit future generations of Alaska Natives and nonnatives as well. Nevertheless, ANCSA and the Native corporation system have had a negative impact as well. Such as, ANCSA was not seen as a good deal for all the Alaskan Natives. Furthermore, during their first twenty years, the Alaska Native regional corporations endured huge profits losses in their effort to parlay control of their land, their natural resources, and their capital. Conclusion Main focus of IASB for introducing new standard for business combinations was that financial statements of companies became more realistic and to represent real economic position and value of a company. Therefore restriction to acquisition method as the only option for business combination is the advantage of new standard since using this method, companies do not have a choice whether to recognize goodwill arising from business combinations. Amortization was changed with impairment because amortization of goodwill can lead to arbitrary accounting according to IASB (Shinhan Financial Group n.d., p. 4). Problem arising is that impairment test and determination of recoverable amount require an active market with homogenies assets and available prices which is hard to determine as far as intangibles are concerned. Consequently, this leads to more subjective decisions regarding measurement and leaves a lot of space for management impact on goodwill. Therefore aim of IASB for transparency and full fair value model is not realized. Although IASB and FASB are making a lot of efforts, universally accepted treatment of goodwill still does not exist. Therefore this will remain controversial topic among economists until creators of financial standards find better solution for goodwill accounting. Reference ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 16. Compressions In Geoffrey Chaucer s The Canterbury Tales Geoffrey Chaucer wrote The Canterbury Tales to communicate moral lessons of his time that still influence society today. The Canterbury Tales is a story of a pilgrimage of twenty nine characters to the Canterbury Cathedral. On the way, each character had to tell two tales as well as two on the way home. These tales provided entertainment for the characters on their trip. The tales are told by the narrator, and his viewpoints on the characters reflect Chaucer s opinions towards the characters. The tales that each character tells are each unique to each person, but through analyzing them further it is seen that the tales share many similarities. In both tales, the main character has a different outer impression which hides the Pardoner s and the Wife of Bath s true inner characteristics from society. Chaucer reveals their inner characteristics through the characters tales and how they present them. In the Canterbury Tales, Chaucer conveys a theme that although individuals set first impressions based on appearance, the reality of their true character is often masked by how they appear. The general and character prologue in The Canterbury Tales gives initial physical descriptions of the Wife of Bath and the Pardoner which helps reinforce the theme that appearance often masks reality. This paper analyses why street vendors despite the provision of formal market infrastructure still decide to trade from the streets. Theories of the informal economy were adopted to get insights into the issues of street vending. Based on survey results the study establishes that for street vendors accessibility of customers is a key consideration and they strategically locate on the streets to avoid formalisation costs such as rent, taxes and licences. There were designated places where one would litter and refuse collection was order of the day. With wonderful vegetation in the city s river banks that made the towns look green and beautiful, it was everybody s wish to stay in town. As years went by, the situation slowly changed, the beauty dramatically lost and the cleanliness completely gone. Today, litter is everywhere, and surely an eyesore. The available rivers in our cities that people used to be proud of, now have no water and are a source of pungent smells following piles of waste, which is quite hazardous to the health of humans as well as plants and animals. There could be many causes to this change and different people would give different reasons. One reason had been the coming in of street vending. Though it would be difficult to tell how vending slowly became part of our living in cities, it must be acknowledged that this trend led to unplanned expanded settlements. Many people trekked from the rural areas to settle in towns and cities with a belief that an available occupation was on the street. The streets were therefore full of people and activities, which resulted in lack of proper sanitation facilities and overcrowded conditions. This also posed a high risk of communicable diseases and caused additional pressure on management of waste. Our towns and cities today ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

During the negotiations with Amazon, internal management s primary concern was to maintain the company culture intact throughout the acquisition process, because a culture that embraces the idiosyncrasies of each individual is what keeps the firm alive and healthy. Such an emphasis on employees manifested itself in drawing up the ten core values of the Zappos family: deliver wow through service; embrace and drive change; create fun and a little weirdness; be adventurous, creative, and open minded; pursue growth and learning; build open and honest relationships with communication; build a positive team and family spirit; do more with less; be passionate and determined; be humble. Another thing to remember is beings the process of drawing took so long the bodies would start decomposing before he was finished with all of the drawings in which he intended to make. When the Moor decided to make a bronze statue of his father on horseback Leonardo stepped up to take on the task. Leonardo planned to make the horse first then make the rider separately and add it on later. He studied horses drawing the best the Moor had in his stable he also measured them even dissecting horses to make sure he had the plans just right. In 1493 Leonardo displayed his clay model that was full size. He still had to cast the enormous statue, which could prove to be the hardest part of making the sculpture. • 29. Cancer Is A Disease Of The Cells Cancer is a disease of the cells, Inside all cells are coded instructions for making new cells and controlling how cells behave. These coded instructions are genes. Abnormal changes in genes can turn normal ovarian cells to cancer cells. Normal cells grow and divided to make new cells. New cells are made as the body needs them to replace injured or dying cells. When normal cells grow old or get damaged, they die. Cancer cells don t do that. The changes in genes causes cancer cells to make too many copies of themselves (National comprehensive cancer network,2015). Cancer cells make new cells that aren t needed and don t die quickly when old or damaged. Most times cancer cells grow and divide enough to form a mass or tumour. The first tumour formed by the overgrowth of cancer cell is known as the primary tumour. Ovarian cancer is the most deadly type of gynecologic malignancy in the United States (Morgan et al.,2013). While there are multiple histological subtypes of ovarian cancer, epithelial cell types are the most common variant and therefore contribute greatly to the morbidity and mortality attributed to ovarian malignancy (Quirk and Natarajan,2005 ). Serous epithelial tumors have the highest incidence noted to constitute about 70% of tumors of epithelial origin, while other subtypes comprise the remaining cases, most commonly mucinous, endometrioid, and clear cell (Irving et al., 2006,McCluggage, 2011). • 30. Of Justice In William Shakespearer, Hamlet, And Thomas... William Shakespeare s King Lear, Hamlet, and Thomas Hardy s Mayor of Casterbridge each examine both the search for and the effects of justice. King Lear is a case study of a failed monarch and his remorse for not having been a better king. Hamlet tasks a teenage boy with avenging his father s death, prompting questions about morality and righteousness. The Mayor of Casterbridge is a man s attempts to reconcile his shortcomings with what he feels is right. Tragically, in each of these works the search for justice, or the character s flawed understanding of it, is ultimately unsuccessful, resulting in injustice towards others. King Lear is defined by the figurehead monarch s quest for what he sees as justice for himself. After Goneril and Regan betray him by refusing to house his nights, King Lear calls upon the heavens avenge him and punish his daughters with a storm. O heavens, he implores, If you do love old men, if your sweet sway Show obedience, if you yourselves are old, Make it your cause. Send down, and take my part (2.4.217 220). These lines, uttered in the raw emotion of a man who feels wronged by those he loves, are representative of Lear s temper and distress when things don t go his way. His daughters perceived insult to him spurs a helpless call for justice from the gods, a justice Lear no longer can carry out because he has divested himself of power. This young girl, with tears in her eyes, knows that she tried her best, but it still wasn t enough to earn her a cash sum. There are a few reasons why children should not get paid for good grades. First, they lose out on valuable life lessons. Second, it is hard to provide the money for all of the children that get A s. Third, it can become a competition and can cause problems amongst friends and family. Finally, children aren t mentally prepared for handling the stress of money. First of all, children lose out on valuable life lessons. Paying for a child s good grades will stop the child from learning about getting achievements for the pride, not for the reward. It can also enforce in a child the message that the only rewards you want from life is money. We expect students to get good grades, so why should we be paying them for something expected of them? The Effect Of Ph On The Function Of The Enzyme Amylase Discussion Effect of pH on the Function of the Enzyme Amylase The objective of the lab was to examine the effects of environmental variables on the functions of an enzyme. To the point, an experiment was conducted to test the effect of pH on the function of the enzyme Amylase. Enzymes are proteins that act as catalysts and help reactions take place. In short, enzymes reduce the energy needed for a reaction to take place, permitting a reaction to take place more easily. Some enzymes are shape specific and reduce the energy for certain reactions. Enzymes have unique folds of the amino acid chain which result in specifically shaped active sites (Frankova Fry 2013). When substrates fit in the active site of an enzyme, then it is able to catalyze the reaction. Enzyme activity is affected by the concentrations of the enzymes and substrate present (Worthington 2010). As the incidence of enzyme increases, the rate of reaction increases. Additionally, as the incidence of substrate increases so does the rate of reaction. Almost all enzymes need specific conditions for them to function. The conditions include temperature, pH level, and concentration of salt. Enzymes have optimal conditions. If they are changed, the enzyme may denature and deactivate. If that happens, the enzyme would not be able to catalyze the reaction, and the reaction rate would decrease (Worthington 2010). Amylase is a digestive enzyme. • 37. Da Vinci Code Contradictions In The Da Vinci Code, a controversial novel about a quest for the real Holy Grail, Dan Brown s historical claims are grounded in many ideas that have been deemed heretical by the Church. The controversy in Brown s novel is often based on religious beliefs that are subject to opinions, but professional logicians and theologians have studied Brown s work to see if the objective components of his writing are logical and consistent. The search for logic includes questions such as whether Brown s claims make sense as they stand by themselves or not, and if the claims contradict each other. While much of Brown s writing is carefully combined into a well written novel, readers can find a few contradictions within Brown s logical sequence. These contradictory ideas can undermine the novel s overlying theme and leave readers yearning to further research the validity and probability of the rest of Brown s claims. One of the most significant themes in Brown s novel is uncovering hidden meaning in works of art by the famous Leonardo Da Vinci.
