Government Of Florida, A State Government Essay
This case study will assess the government of Florida, a state government. It will touch on several
important issues such as providing a general overview of how the government functions and what
resources it provides, as well as some current issues the State of Florida is facing in government
administration. Because the State of Florida is a state government, it tends to resemble the national
government in composition and organization of their executive branch agencies (Milakovich, 2013, p.
21).
The work and services provided by the State of Florida include services for children and families, such
as services concerning adoption, child abuse, children with disabilities, food stamps, and
marriage/divorce. They also provide services involving colleges and universities, courts and
corrections, environmental and wildlife preservation/protection, healthcare administration, highway
patrol and safety, utility regulations, transportation, revenue (taxes), and a host of other areas. In order
to pay for all of the services which they provide, Governor Rick Scott has created a budget of $78.4
billion for the state of Florida in the 2015 2016 fiscal year (Scott, 2016, p. 13). This budget also
includes the employment of 113,687 people who compromise the total state workforce (Scott, 2016, p.
14).
A crucial role in the State of Florida is the role of citizen participation. Citizen participation and
community engagement play an extremely important part in a democratic

What Extent Do Liberals Support Democracy
To what extent do liberals support democracy (45 marks)
Democracy is the ultimate political form of ideological liberalism. It refers to the ideal form of state,
and is common to both classical and modern liberals.
In the 19th century, liberals often saw democracy as threatening or dangerous. Political theorists such
as Plato and Aristotle viewed democracy as being a system of rule at the expense of wisdom and
property. The principle that the will of the majority should prevail over the minority may have
negative effects. In Northern Ireland, a very divided religious country, if the 51% get their way, the
other 49% will be in outrage. Democracy thus comes down to the rule of the 51%, as French politician

Therefor although citizens may vote for a leader, they will then make decisions based on a small
number of peoples view for the majority of the people. The minority ruling the majority.
However a reason why liberals support democracy is that it shows each individual is equal one vote
per person, gives everyone equal influence on how countries governed. Since voting is done
individually, it constraints the collective pressures of groups within society.
To conclude, liberals are now staunch advocates of democracy as it provides personal development,
consent and all individuals are equal. Modern liberals embrace democracy, but only in the specific
liberal form. They reject other forms of democracy, which may be less pluralist or more participatory,
as downright

Disadvantages Of Tourism In Kenya
Tourism in Kenya
Introduction
Tourism
Goeldner and Ritchie (1995) define tourism as a short term movement of people to places other than
their normal place of residence and work, including the activities of persons travelling to and staying
in locations outside their places of residence and work for not more than twelve months for the
purpose of: leisure (recreation, vacation, health, study, religion and sport); and business family,
mission and meetings.

Children s Cognitive And Socio Emotional Development
Observation is a way for early childhood teachers to record a child s development or interests. Using
these allows for the information to be reflected on when producing lessons. Therefore, this report will
be focusing on the observations made on a child within an early childhood centre. Focusing on
analysing and discussing the observations made on the child s cognitive and socio emotional
development domains. Also, showing how both the cognitive and socio emotional domains inter relate
with a child s holistic development. 2. Background Information
The child I have chosen for my observations is Sarah, the pseudonym I have chosen, a four year old
girl who attends the early childhood centre where I volunteer. Sarah is a New Zealand ... Show more

Another example of cognitive development is joining other in observing and discussing about
butterflies. According to Gonzalez Mena (2010), teachers should ensure children s cognitive
development is given plenty of opportunities to be nurtured and extended through small collaborative
groups. After the discussions Sarah was still interested in the butterflies, and while in the art area used
her reflection skills to create a drawing depicting a butterfly emerging from its chrysalis. Therefore,
creativity is important in promoting cognitive development and should be either planned or
spontaneous (Gonzalez Mena Widmeyer Eyer, 2012). Thus, ensuring the learning environment
stimulate and encourages a child s curiosity, and allows for free exploration. In Piaget s theory of
cognitive development, it is emphasise that children learn through exploring and creating their world.
The theory viewed cognitive development as stages. Based on those ideas in the theory a four year
olds cognitive development is viewed as the preoperative stage, where a child is able to use symbols
or words to represent objects, places and events through speech and are (Gonzalez Mena Widmeyer
Eyer, 2012). Therefore, both observations three and four have can be used as a reflection of Sarah s
preoperative learning and thinking. For example, in observation three Sarah is able

Character Sketch Of Tolstoy
2 Tolstoy s Character. Tolstoy was a multi dimensional man. In his long career he had been a teacher
and educational theorist, a philosopher and social critic, a successful farmer and paterfamilias, a
soldier, and a prophet. Above all, however, he was a great artist, and it is on his fiction that his fame at
present rests. The literary career of this great writer of the Russian land (as his contemporary Turgenev
called him) may be divided into three parts: the early period of literary apprenticeship (1851 63), the
period of the great novels (1863 77), and the later period of preoccupation with the message of his
religious teaching (1878 1910). The works of the early period may be regarded as the school in which
Tolstoy taught himself to write. He isolated the themes and developed the literary ... Show more

His account focuses heavily on both sides tactical successes and failures from maneuvers in battle to
how they handled occupied territory. Before the French surrender, Pierre s brush with execution
becomes a cutting satire of French bureaucracy, which functions so badly that Pierre is nearly
executed simply because a general was interrupted while he was deciding Pierre s sentence. However,
the Russians also become objects of Tolstoy s critique. He depicts disorganization and a lack of
professionalism on both sides. The French failures are not limited to their ineffective bureaucracy.
Since the battle of Borodino and the looting of Moscow, Tolstoy writes, the French army had borne
within itself, as it were, the chemical conditions of its decomposition Napoleon and his generals seem
to have good intentions they order their men not to loot and treat the Russians they meet respectfully.
However, the privation and lack of discipline in the French army means that the foot soldiers eagerly

Examples Of Appearance Vs Reality In Macbeth
Macbeth: Appearance vs. Reality
In William Shakespeare s Macbeth, many characters appear happy but in reality everything is not what
it seems. In the beginning of the book, all the characters acted as if all of them were friends, and
everyone s personalities came out.
Throughout the book the witches acted, doubtful and put forth impressions that changed the book s
setting. The witches victoriously manage to fool, cheat and provoke the bad throughout Scotland. The
witches enter the scene and they start to talk about where they want to meet Macbeth and how they
want to meet him upon the heath. Fair is foul, and foul is fair (20, 1.1.13) What is significant about
this quote is that fair means that things will look pretty and foul means that the ugly will become
beautiful. With the witches referring to themselves they are also referring that they are giving the best

Macbeth is a perfect example for appearance versus reality, because he is portrayed to the readers as
an evil person by planning deaths just so he can be top notch. What some characters see in Macbeth is
leadership and bravery when he stepped up to be King Of Cawdor after Duncan s death. Would it
please your Highness to honor us with your royal company. (158, 3, 4, 51 52) This quote shows that
Ross is being loyal to King Macbeth and also that he respects him. Another statement about this theme
is in Act 5, Scene 5 when the Birnam Woods appeared to be moving, but in reality soldiers were
carrying branches for camouflage, and making their way to the castle to attack Macbeth. I look d
toward Birnam, and anon, methought, the wood began to move. (238, 5, 5, 37 38) This quote provides
the truth that the soldiers were making their way to the

Courage In Finding Forrester
Having courage to accomplish a new task may not only be extremely difficult for most, but also
harder for one to apply that courage to go out of their way to an unfamiliar place. In the movie Finding
Forrester, both of the main characters, Forrester and Jamal, portray the idea of courage throughout the
entire movie. Finding Forrester is a classic movie about a forgotten author, Forrester, and a teenager,
Jamal, with a hidden dream. Jamal and Forrester create a special bond between the two of them
through their love of writing. This bond between the two allows for each of them to gain courage.
Through this courage, Jamal is able to share his dream with his peers and Forrester is able to
overcome his fear to help Jamal with a conflict with his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Since Forrester gained a new sense of courage from his friendship with Jamal, it enables him to go to
professor Crawfords classroom and to stand up for Jamal. Jamal is accused of plagiarizing a paper that
he wrote for Crawford s class, but the catch behind is that the beginning of the paper is actually
Forrester s work. This accusation on Jamal creates a new conflict not only for Jamal, but also for
Forrester. Jamals conflict is to either break his promise with Forrester or risk being accused of
cheating. For Forrester, his obstacle is to either overcome his fear or let Jamal suffer from his mistake.
Forrester builds up his courage and goes to read one of Jamal s writings to the class, and prove that he
did not actually plagiarize. Since Forrester secluded himself from all of society because of his self
guilt, it takes a tremendous amount of courage to go out into an unfamiliar place, especially to a
classroom with a professor who attempted to tear him down by criticizing Forrester.Movielocity
(2000) stated, It comes down to a moment of truth for both men; for Jamal, a choice between
following his dream or betraying a friend, and for Forrester, a decision to remain closed off or to look
at the world through new eyes (p.3). Here, movielocity is saying that because this conflict occurred, it
gave both of the men another conflict within themselves. For Forrester, it was to either remain
secluded or to see the world through new eyes and to help his friend. Since Forrester gained
confidence from Jamal, it helped him to make the right decision with his inner conflict and go to
Crawfords classroom and see the world through fresh eyes. Jamal also portrays courage when he
transfers to a new private school. Jamals previous school is a normal public school while this new
private school is prestigious. Since this is a big change in atmosphere, courage plays a key role in
helping Jamal make the transfer from one school to

International Student Transition Paper
The United States has always been a main attraction for international students to gain intellectual
knowledge, technical skills, cross cultural experience, and better opportunities for professional
development (Han, Han, Luo, Jacobs, Jean Baptiste, 2013; Zhang Goodson, 2010). According to the

Marc Lepine and the Montreal Massacre
On December 6th, 1989, the Ecole Polytechnique engineering school in Montreal would unbeknownst
to everyone in the building become the backdrop for one of the worst mass murder incidents in
Canadian history. 14 women were shot and killed at the hands of a shooter named Marc Lepine, and
13 others were gravely wounded in the process (Maser, 1987). No outright reason was apparent other
than the letters left on his suicide note, but it marked a troubled life that began from his troubled
childhood. Factors that may have led up to this incident needs to be examined in further detail, using a
psychological explanation and a criminological theory. This paper will use the social learning theory

Eventually, he ended his rampage in a third floor lecture hall where he shot and wounded several more
people before ending his own life. Suicide notes found on him revealed that his motives were based on
his hatred for feminists, stating that they have ruined his life . It also revealed a hit list containing 15
public figures, probably found through news media sources, but stated that he was unable to act upon
it. Instead, all his victims turned out to be strangers that were unfortunate enough to be caught in the
killing spree (Maser, 1987).
Family Background
Details about Marc Lepine and his life began to surface after the initial incident, uncovering an
unpleasant childhood and a broken home. Born with the name of Gamil Gharbi, he had an Algerian
father and a mother of French descent. The father was a relatively successful businessman that did
most of his work overseas; the mother, Monique, was a nurse with a good family background (Weston
Aubrey, 1990). The family was well off due to their career success, but what looked like a perfect
marriage on paper was horrific for the mother and the children behind closed doors. Described as a
very brutal man who did not seem to have any control of his emotions (MacDonell et al., 1989, para.
3), Marc s father treated his wife like a servant and often physically abused her for the most minor
nuances. The kids were subject to similar treatment and the mom was forbidden to comfort

Robert E. Lee s Life During The Civil War
The Civil War was not only a time of regional tension, but of personal tension, especially for
Confederate army leaders. The constant pressure from needing to defend and protect Southern
independence contributed to the rise of anxiety and stress related medical disorders. Robert E. Lee, a
brilliant Confederate general and skilled tactician, was such a case. General Lee s health during his pre
Civil War years was without blemish. However, with the beginning of the Civil War, Lee s health
experienced noticeable decline. Later in his life, doctors diagnosed Lee with pericarditis, but more
modern clinical evaluations of Robert E Lee s symptoms conclude that his condition was more likely
attributed to stress induced ischemic heart disease (Mainwaring Tribble 244). Lee s condition was
accelerated by the wartime stress and contraction of malaria in 1863, leading to pains on the battlefield
which impaired strategical judgment. Robert E. Lee s first year as commander was impressive in
military accomplishments, but his confidence was shaken after a devastating loss in the family. The
general assumed his command of the Army of Northern Virginia in May of 1862 after the Battle of
Seven Pines wounded Joseph Johnson. Lee was 54 years old at the time and led the Confederates at 3
major battles that year Battle of Seven Days, Second Bull Run, and Antietam. The Battle of Seven
Days began on June 25 and lasted until July 1. The overall outcome of the conflict was that the Union

The Strengths And Weaknesses Of Alexander The Great

all the wars he won. Alexander had lots of enemies that tried to kill him. Alexander made many
decisions, but some of them were mistakes. Alexander led multiple wars to victory and conquered lots
of places which lead him to being a good leader because of it. Alexander must have been a very brave
man for going to war a lot. Alexander s troops was thought to be unbeatable. In 333 the troops of
Alexander and Darius went to battle because Darius lost in a battle a year before with Alexander, and
Darius wanted to win. Alexanders army was outnumbered. Even though Alexander s army was
outnumbered, he used his flair for military strategy to create formations that defeated Persians and
caused Darius to flee. Alexander declared himself the king of Persia after capturing Darius and
holding him a fugitive. (LLC, 2015) As you can see, Alexander had a strong army. He also became

Negative Effects Of Celebrity Life
Imagine living the life where every step and move you take are controlled by the world. Some people
lead their lives where they are watched around the entire world, which means that, all actions that
these individuals took are judged by society and communities. People around the world are expecting
excellent result and perfect decision from these people. Well, this is how celebrities lives are and their
expectation. They do all they can to stay on top and to make differences in their everyday lives. Most
of the time the world has the mindset that being a celebrity is all about happiness and wealth.
However, there may come time of rejoicing as well as sadness.Celebrity life has negatives effects in
people s lives in numerous ways and those who choose to become celebrities they should be aware of
these effects before they choose this fuel.
Additionally, celebrities do not have private life. Every step and action they take are watched.
Apparently, when one is a celebrity his or her life is not theirs any more. One may go through
difficulties situations in life, no matter how hard the person can pretend to not share his or her
problems; it will be still known in public. For example, Moise Mbiye, one of the Gospel musician in

The Narrator In Ralph Ellison s Invisible Man
The book Invisible Man by Ralph Ellison begins with a narrator describing his current living
conditions and his view of himself as an invisible man. It soon becomes apparent that the book will be

college to an invisible man who lives in a basement, stealing electricity. We see in the beginning, how
the narrator transformed from being hopeful and eager to a self proclaimed invisible man. Invisible
Man is told from the point of view as the narrator as he looks back to the past events of his life, and at

narrator is still focused on giving his speech. While being forced onto his knees to fight for money on
a rug, he wonders if this rug will be where he gives his speech. Finding himself facing off with the
biggest boy participating in the battle, the narrator only thinks about what the watching white people
would be happiest to see. He stopped fighting back against the brutal beating he was getting for the
amusement of racist, rich people because he believed that his defeat would please the watching crowd.
Even when the narrator was embarrassed and forced to claw for fake money, he was disappointed with
the thought that he might not be able to deliver his speech. Even after disrespect, racism, and even
outright violence, the narrator was still very eager to please the white men in the room. The older
narrator recalls an incident in which he bumped into a tall blond one night. That man called him an
insulting name and in retaliation, the narrator began beating the man and eventually pulled out his

The Traditions Of Rituals By Nicholas B. Dawe Essay
The traditions of rituals is strongly examined by author Nicholas B. Dirks in Ritual and Resistance:
Subversion as a Social Fact, where he attempts to persuade readers of the drawbacks of ritual practices
through an anthropological point of view. Dirks explains to his readers of the fundamentals of rituals
as: brimming with resistance , opposed to [everyday] , along with the centrality of the subject of
power (Dirks 1994, 483 503). Continuing to state his supporting arguments through the article, Dirk s
concludes that too much of regular (daily) ritual practices creates a normalization in the ritual itself
(Dirks 1994, 483 503). Understanding the perspective of the creation of ordinarity of the practices,
one could argue that the repetition of a curtain act of a tradition can become a normality such as Dirks
states in his writings; however, if the act of tradition is not conducted daily, yet instead semi
annually/annually, there would not be a normality. Dirks presents his thesis as [focussing] on everyday
forms of resistance, critiquing both anthropological assumptions about ritual and historical reifications
of [the] assumptions (Dirks 1994, 483). Dirks finds the negative components of ritual practices, and
continually supports his facts through other scholars opinions as well, however in a separate article of
ritual subject matter, Niels Gutschow writes about the respecting aspects of ritual. In Ritual Chariots

College Debt And Student Completion And Attendance

English 102
20 April 2015
College Debt and Student Completion and Attendance In mid 2010 higher education debt surpassed
credit card debt at $830 billon dollars(Clemmitt 877 900). Debt has become an increasing problem for
students who want to attend college. As more students try to further their education, tuition rises and
so does the amount of loans taken out each year. According to Belkin, Students attending public four
year institutions this academic year are paying an average of $12,620, up $220 from last year, for
tuition, room and board, meaning that tuition is only growing not decreasing from previous
years(Belkin n.p.). Many people debate over whether they should attend college and be in debt or if
they should get a job somewhere that allows them to live a comfortable life debt free. Two thirds of
college graduates have to take out loans in order to get through college(Dwyer, McCloud, Hodson
1133 1155). Many people question, Does rising college debt limit who attends and completes college?
, while many people have different opinions on this particular subject, I believe that it depends on the

This diversity means that solar power is an option different power systems important food worldwide.
In fact, interest in solar power systems has been increasing in recent years worldwide. This interest to
several factors, such as environmental awareness, effort should be to minimize the dependence on non
renewable fossil fuels countries and international agreements that require the reduction of greenhouse
gases in the atmosphere of the earth. Heat storage technologies, systems and applications are studied
in the field of solar energy. One way to collect and store solar energy by using solar ponds can be used
to provide thermal energy for various applications, such as process and space heating, water
desalination, refrigeration, drying and power generation. Thermal energy storage has always been the
most important energy storage option. Solar ponds are a classic application of thermal energy storage
and efficiency essentially depends on the storage capacity of the fluid, Thermo physical properties of
pond conditions and surroundings. Recently, attention has been paid to friendly sources to the
environment, sustainable energy, such as solar energy. In this respect, solar ponds seem to be a
potential for the application method. In this respect, solar ponds seem to be a potential for the

Not only do the women feel the pressures of dowry, but their parent s and families feel the brunt of the
formidable pressure as well. Because of this, parents view their daughters as a burden (Kishawr,
2005). Increasingly families in India have more of a desire to birth sons instead of daughters. Umar
(1998,) explains this dynamic further saying, Indian social system give considerable importance to the
birth of a male child. Unlike a daughter who must change loyalties after marriage a son is considered
to be a good investment and insurance for the future . In an instance where woman who is already
pressured by inadequate dowry, does not birth a son, she will oftentimes be murdered, and if not
murdered, compelled to commit suicide. There are several concerns that breed bride burning. In his
vigilant study, Umar (1998) examines the causative factors leading to harassment, violence and
ultimately bride burning of Indian women in their matrimonial homes. He discusses three main causes
of the issue, the rigidity of the divorce law, maintenance of socioeconomic status for Indian families
and economic inequality in relation to poverty of husband and In laws. In India, marriage is
considered the foundation of social formation and is heavily based on Hindu religious traditions.
According to Umar (1998), Shastric Hindu Law considered marriage to be unbreakable and eternal.
The belief that divorce is unacceptable stems from this religious tradition. There have however,

Olaudah Equiano Influence On Slavery
Influence of Religion on Equiano s View of Slavery
Religion can be viewed as a key factor in The Interesting Narrative of the Life of Olaudah Equiano. It
played a substantial role throughout Equiano s life, especially during his slave years, as presented
through the writings of his experiences. More specifically, one can argue that his religious conversion
to Christianity meant a type of liberty equally significant as his own freedom from slavery.
To achieve freedom, Equiano used hard work, education, and his faith in God. His quotations and
assertions of Christianity during his life, especially throughout slavery, showed how much he
increasingly relied on the Bible during his unpleasant journey. He increasingly became to believe that
freedom could be achieved through God. Religion strongly influenced Equiano s negative viewpoint
of slavery, and with the help of his faith in God, lead him to achieve freedom.
Equiano describes the relatively benevolent conditions of slavery in the small district of the Kingdom
of Benin in Africa, where he was born. He was raised in an upper class family that owned a large
number of slaves. Therefore, Equiano was accustomed to the system of slavery. Even though they had
their freedom take away from them, he believed that the slaves were treated humanely in Benin, which

From his viewpoint, the slaves were treated virtually like everyone else. He wrote, With us they do no
more work than other members of the community, than even their master; their food, clothing and

property, and for their own use. Since Equiano was born into an upper class family, one could argue
that he was not against all forms of slavery. His early impression of slavery was greatly affected by his
humanity and familiarity of a class

George Washington As A General Essay
George Washington as a General.
George Washington was commander in chief of the continental army during the American
revolutionary war. Although some argue that George Washington was an excellent leader, others argue
that he didn t know what he was doing and that it was out of luck that he won the revolutionary war,
George Washington was without a doubt a fine general, because George Washington played roles in
which he showed exemplified character and leadership, he stuck by his men and led the colonial
forces to victory over the British and became a hero, he and his continental army spread ideals of
freedom, liberty and showed there is hope for new heroes in the world.

General Washington stuck by his soldiers through integrity. As explained in the article, lessons in
leadership from George Washington, by Major Graham H. Bernstein. Bernstein says, integrity is more
than personal honesty and morality. It is also necessary to developing trust between the leader and the
followers. Through this point, Washington and his soldiers developed a friendship with each other.
They either work together or end up nowhere. George Washington like an effective leader,
communicated an inspiring vision to him and his followers and together they choose to live it. His
followers believed in Washington and Washington believed in his followers. With hard work and
devotion, Washington and his soldiers would win the war as a team. The article also explains
Washington s tireless commitment to his troops; he did not leave his soldiers once during a conflict
and he endured the same pain as his men did. Washington shows faithfulness to his soldiers and his
nation. Washington knew his army was under trained and that they were going against the toughest
militia there was at the time, but he still chooses to stick with his soldiers and not flee the scene. His
forgoing observations point the picture of a leader who inspired the confidence of the people he led.
Finally, Washington and his Continental Army, spread ideals of freedom, liberty and showed there are

What Did The Muslim Brotherhood Moderate From The 1980 S...
In early 2011 the world watched as Egypt s youth revolted against their abusive president, Muhammed
Hosni El Sayed Mubarak. This revolution sparked much political and social debate around the world,
about what was next for the Egyptians. With the ousting of Mubarak, the Muslim Brotherhood saw it s
chance to run for political power and therefore began their campaign. Before looking at the Muslim
Brotherhood s role in the 2011 Revolution and the elections that would follow, their moderation as an
Islamist organization must be examined. In order to do so, this paper will examine to what extent did
the Muslim Brotherhood Moderate from the 1980 s 2000 s? In Jillian Schwedler s article, Faith in
Moderation: Islamist Parties in Jordan and Yemen, she explains moderation as, when a movement
moves from a closed and rigid worldview to one that is more open and tolerant of alternative
perspectives and encounters ideological change (Schwedler 3). Although throughout her analysis she
discusses the inclusion moderation hypothesis, I will not be integrating this into my paper. I will argue
that the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt moderated between the 1980 s 2000 s because of their
evolution of ideologies on minority religious groups, women and the diversification of issues. I will be
doing this by discussing their moderation on minority religious groups, women, and the diversification
of issues within the state. The religious group I will be focusing on is the Copts, or Coptic Christians.

Seth Gordon s documentary King of Kong produced in 2007 is a very competitive and tensing video.
It expresses the gamers as very focused individuals and explains the hunger of winning for them. The
director Seth Gordon shows a contrast between ambition and obsession through codes and convection
as well as characteristics. The codes and conventions in the documentary also play a vital role in
portraying different aspects of personalities in different characters. They change your perspective
about certain people or events and make you more aware of what is going on. Billy Mitchell, one of
the players in the documentary, was shown extremely logical and very professional. In disparity with,
Steve Wiebe, another gamer, who was portrayed as a very hardworking and ambitious man. Having

Business Intelligence ( Bi ) And Business Analytics
Business intelligence (BI) and business analytics (BA) (sometimes used interchangeably) has
revolutionized the way businesses use data and can be contrasted, for the purpose of this essay, in the
following way: BI is raw data that has been transformed into meaningful information that provides
historical, current, and predictive views of business operations and environment, and BA uses data and
statistical methods to provide actionable information for decision makers. BI explains what is
happening, identifies the issue, and provides decisions to be made and BA explains why an issue is
occurring, what will occur, and what actions need to be taken. At the forefront of BI/BA technology is
International Business Machines (IBM) with a very broad array of related products and services.
Among the more popular products are its flagship analytics product IBM Cognos and its Predictive

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Fuel Cell Technology
One of the greatest problem faced by the world is pollution, which is causing a lot of damage to the
planet which is irreparable damage. The damaged being caused is affecting the human society by
polluting the basic needs like fresh air, water and food (Everythingconnects.org, 2013). Pollution
caused by humans is rising daily and as a result radical changes to the planet are happening. Pollution
is caused by many things, but a major contributor is the automobile industry. Vehicles which are part

motor the fuel cell is made of stacks of fuel cells because a single fuel cell has power similar to a

The central theme is exploring if Fuel cell technology can be a viable alternative to fossil fuel cars.
Firstly, most cars on road use petrol or diesel. As fossil fuels are non renewable these fuels are crude
oil fossil fuels and have taken years to form, but fuels are used at a faster rate than formed.
Furthermore, the combustion of these fuels leads to global warming and climate change caused by
greenhouse gases from the combustion. These effects can be solved by using fuel cells as a
replacement for fossil fuels. fuel cells have near zero emissions, as fuel cell cars use hydrogen gas as
fuel. The hydrogen gas reacts with oxygen from the air, this reaction s end result is electricity and
water (Torres, 2014). The use of fuel cells will drastically lower the amount of greenhouse gases
released, as only water comes out of the exhaust instead of CO2 and N2. The effect of that

Strategic Human Resource Development
Introduction
There is now a general acceptance of a stakeholder theory of the modern organization (see, e.g.[1,
2,3]). Such a theory implies that managers have a duty to stakeholders. Stakeholders are defined as
those groups who have a stake in or claim on the firm. Translated to the human resource development
(HRD) context it suggests that each stakeholder group has a right not to be treated as a means to some
end and should therefore participate in determining the future direction of human resource
development activities within the organization.
The evolution of a strategic HRD concept has also highlighted the need for the application of a
stakeholder theory to HRD within the organization. Commentators such as Sparrow and Pettigrew[ 4]

The first is that the current state of the HRD function is the result of the supporting and the resisting
forces brought to bear on the function by the stakeholders. Thus the present status of the HRD
function is at best a temporary balance of opposing forces. Some of these forces provide resources and
support to the function while others serve as barriers or constraints. The forces are generated by
stakeholders in the course of pursuing their specific interests, goals and objectives.
The second premiss is that the outcomes of the HRD function s strategies are the collective result of
all the forces brought to bear on it by its stakeholders during implementation. The function is always
in a state of quasi equilibrium as it attempts to balance the various stakeholder forces. Each time the
HRD function acts and its stakeholders respond, a new temporary balance is achieved. The status and
performance of the HRD function at a given point in the future depends on the equilibrium it achieves
throughout the period it is implementing its strategies.
These two premisses lead to an important conclusion. The validity of the strategies implemented by
the HRD function always depend on the assumptions that are made about its stakeholders and about
the steps they will take during the planning and implementation of HRD strategies to involve key
stakeholders.

The excepted social theory of civilization s social process was made by the scientists Adam Smith,
John Millar, Adam Ferguson, and lastly Lord Kames. This social theory was that there were many
levels of civility in a society. These levels were hunting, pasturage, agriculture, and commerce. One
example of the first level which is hunting is the the Native Americans. The excepted social process is
that a country was to go through all of these levels by starting out on hunting and eventually the
society would mature and work its way up to the point of being a commercially based society. Now
this process helped shaped the colonies culture of civility because the colonists were never hunters.

One in particular that sticks out of this list is candid. Especially in todays politics there are very few
leaders and politicians that are honest and candid. Today we find many leaders lying and making false

that the original principals that this country was technically founded on are not being fallowed by
todays leaders in americas. The founding father s also played a gigantic role in the social culture in
America. The social culture in America was very unique at the time. When you are born in America
you are not already put into a social class. There is an equal opportunity for each and every person.
And the role that the founding father s had played in this was being the people who wrote the
constitution which says what we can or can not do also known as our set of laws. It says in the
constitution that all men are created equally which socially speaking there are not any nobles there are
not any serfs or lords there are just citizens. But what happens to slaves? Well in Thomas Paine s
common sense he says that the government should protect a citizens property and in the Southern
colonies slaves were a part of their own property. But if all men are created equal then how can a man
be another man s property. The founding father s had decided and played a large role in the social

Space Shuttle Experiment
The Space Shuttle was an interesting exhibit with many fascinating attractions. There were a lot of
connections between how the spaceship works and our class, electricity and magnetism. One of the
main connections between these two were the tires on the space shuttle. The spaceship only used one
set of tires per trip because it needed to have a lot of traction in order to stop the ship in time which
means that they can not be reused. Throughout the trip however, the tires go through a lot of change.
Once they escape the Earth s atmosphere, they lose a lot of pressure. The air inside the tires could go
through a phase change that would cause energy be created which in return energy is calculated by
Q=mLf.
The next piece that helped me gain insight into how the physics of our class is used in the space
program was a sample of the control room in NASA s headquarters. I saw how they use infrared

HOW THESE FACTORS IMPACT STARBUCKS NOW?
Starbucks is one of the most profitable companies of United Kingdom. Due to its high market share
and increasing growth rate, internal and external factors impacts Starbucks both positively as well as
negatively. Some of the impacts of internal and external factors are as follows;
 Starbucks can face threats of new competition by two types of competitors. Small high street cafes
whose startup cost is very low, but they require some time to stabilize. Another is Mc Donald s
entering in the competition by bringing in a wide range of coffee products.
 Due to increase of competitors in the market, Starbucks face a threat of increased bargaining power
of supplier. It may be helpful to Starbucks as it may have a supplier who provide high quality of
coffee beans, and can be unhelpful for it because of high price charge by the

A Defense Of Abortion By Judith Jarvis Thomson
Abortion is a major issue that has lead to many different opinions, ideas, and various debates.
Proponents for abortion often use the fact that a fetus is not a moral person to justify their position,
whereas those who are against the issue often claim that a fetus is a moral person and should deserve
every right a moral person has, including the right to live. Judith Jarvis Thomson, however, takes an
entirely different approach. In her article A Defense of Abortion Thomson argues that even if a fetus is
considered to be a human being does not automatically ensure it the right to live. Thomson s position
leads to many oppositions and critiques. Foot s article, for example, Killing versus Letting Die
attempts to point out the flaws in Thomson s argument. Foot claims that a fetus status must be
considered when addressing the issue of abortion and that Thomson s argument is invalid. Although
Thomson s argument may seem valid at first, Foot does offer considerable evidence critiquing the
validity of Thomson s argument. One of the main issues Foot has with Thomson s argument is the
analogy her paper consistently relies on to relay her position. In the analogy, a person is kidnapped
and placed in a kidney machine that is connected to an ill violinist, who is in desperate need of a
functioning kidney. With that analogy, Thomson argues that an individual s right to agency trumps
over another person s right to life if that person has to depend on and is a burden to the

How Do Political And Social Standards Influence US...
2. It is very difficult for political and social goals to not influence US accounting standard setting.
According to Solomons (1978, p. 65) quoting Charles Horngren, the setting of accounting standards is
as much a product of political action as of flawless logic or empirical findings. Why? Because the
setting of standards is a social decision. Standards place restrictions on behavior; therefore, they must
be accepted by the affected parties...getting acceptance is an exceedingly complicated process that
requires skillful marketing in a political arena. When a person or group of people see an issue that they
feel needs to be addressed, they are going to want it handled in the way most desirable to them and
their position. Hand in hand with

The Board Of Overseers, Ladies And Gentlemen Essay
Devin thomas
Mr. President, Dr. Conant, members of the Board of Overseers, Ladies and Gentlemen:
I am profoundly grateful, touched by the great distinction and honor and great compliment accorded
me by the authorities of Harvard this morning. I am overwhelmed, as a matter of fact, and I am rather
fearful of my inability to maintain such a high rating as you ve been generous enough to accord to me.
In these historic and lovely surroundings, this perfect day, and this very wonderful assembly, it is a
tremendously impressive thing to an individual in my position.
But to speak more seriously, I need not tell you that the world situation is very serious. That must be
apparent to all intelligent people. I think one difficulty is that the problem is one of such enormous
complexity that the very mass of facts presented to the public by press and radio make it exceedingly
difficult for the man in the street to reach a clear appraisement of the situation. Furthermore, the
people of this country are distant from the troubled areas of the earth, and it is hard for them to
comprehend the plight and consequent reactions of the long suffering peoples of Europe and the effect
of those reactions on their governments in connection with our efforts to promote peace in the world.
In considering the requirements for the rehabilitation of Europe, the physical loss of life, the visible
destruction of cities, factories, mines, and railroads was correctly estimated, but it has become obvious

business is the complete opposite of President Business. Lord Business is a very evil and selfish
leader. Lord Business wants to take over the world himself and the leadership style he portrays is
Dictatorship. Dictatorship is when one person has all of the power which Lords Business did have. In
the movie Lego Movie Lord Business displays the dictatorship leadership style because of when head
had faked the election to rig the voting, he told his slaves to destroy Vitruvius, and when he had

That shows that Lord Business displayed a dictatorship because he has all of the power and can use or

because he had rigged the voting elections to go in his favour, when he gave to order to his slaves to
destroy Vitruvius, and when he had use Kragle on everyone even though everyone disagreed with him.
Master Builders were a small group of people who always worked well as a unit and always had input
from everyone in their group when they made any decisions as a team. In the Lego Movie the Master
Builders displayed a direct democracy because when they were making a plan to destroy Lord
Business, when everyone agreed with Batman to go underwater, and when everyone had voted that
Emit was the Special . Firstly, when the Master Builders made a plan to destroy Lord Business this
displays a direct democracy leadership because while they were making their plan they all started to
contribute to take part in making the plan and take their roles as a team to shut down Lord Business.
This shows direct democracy because the decision to take Sidhu 3 down Lord Business was a team
decision and everyone agreed with the idea to take down Lord Business. The Master Builders making

English Essay Witness by Peter Weir
The 1985 film witness, directed by Peter Weir is a crime/drama that develops the theme of conflict on
a social, cultural and personal level. These areas of conflict are highlighted through the use of film
techniques such as; camera shots, camera angles, lighting and costume. The film outlines the contrast
between mainstream American society and the Amish community in regional Pennsylvania. While
American society is seen as a violent and arrogant group of people, whereas the Amish are seen to be
a peaceful, religious group of people. In this film the Amish perceive the mainstream American
society to be called the English . The reason for this is the Amish originated in England so they

The director portrays this like an old western shoot out, because Book is walking away then holsters
his pistol in a shoot out type fashion. We see rapid mid range shots between Book and McPhee which
gives us the feeling of a fast paced action movie. This leaves Book wounded and in a state of shock.
Book then flees to the Amish hideout with Rachel and Samuel because it is no longer safe in Boston.
Book is cared for by the Amish by using traditional herbal teas and remedies. One morning, Book
awakes to find Samuel holding his gun and yells don t move with an outburst of anger. Book removes
the bullets and allows for Samuel to hold it. Rachel walks in and sees that Samuel is in possession of
the gun and sends him downstairs. Book now creates a personal conflict because he knows that he
should not have let Samuel get his hands on the gun because violence is against their beliefs, and
morally no children of any culture should be in contact with guns. Book also knows that he is the
protector and he needs to nurture Samuel but not expose him to the ways of the English .
As the plot progresses we see the growing love interest between Book and Rachel develop. In
particular where Book is trying to start the car in the barn and Rachel joins him. The car starts, the
radio fires up and the DJ announces What A Wonderful World to the excitement of Book. Book invites
Rachel to dance where they sing and have a great time until Eli walks in.

Essay about Symbolism in “The Story of an Hour”
The symbols and imagery used by Kate Chopin s in The Story of an Hour give the reader a sense of
Mrs. Mallard s new life appearing before her through her view of an open window (para. 4). Louise
Mallard experiences what most individuals long for throughout their lives; freedom and happiness. By
spending an hour in a comfortable, roomy armchair (para.4) in front of an open window, she
undergoes a transformation that makes her understand the importance of her freedom. The author s use
of Spring time imagery also creates a sense of renewal that captures the author s idea that Mrs.
Mallard was set free after the news of her husband s death.
Right from the moment Louise Mallard hears of her husband s death, Kate Chopin dives into a her ...

Immediately after the news of her husband s death, Mrs. Mallard races upstairs into her room where
she settles into a comfortable, roomy armchair (para.4). The armchair symbolizes the rest from the
oppressive life she had and freedom from society s expectations. Since it was tradition for women to
be married by a certain age, Louise Mallard must have obligated to marry Brently. Sitting in the
armchair, she gazes out of the window and starts indulges in deep thought, which establishes her as an
intelligent individual.
The open window from which Louise gazes is symbolic for her freedom and the good fortune that she
is now presented with. Her attention to the blue sky, fluffy clouds, tree tops and the delicious breath of
rain denote her newly found inner well being. The writer s use of language is well chosen as it
explicitly portrays Mrs. Mallard s true feelings. By capturing all the senses, the imagery created
represents Louise s new life and establishes her as a round character. The open window provides a
clear and bright view into the distance of Louise s own bright future, which was obstructed by the
demands of her husband.
As Mrs. Mallard left the room, there was a feverish triumph in her eyes, and she carried herself
unwittingly like a goddess of Victory (para.19). The goddess of victory (para.19) embodies Louise s
triumph over repression, over the powerful will bending hers in that blind persistence...right to impose

  • 2. Government Of Florida, A State Government Essay This case study will assess the government of Florida, a state government. It will touch on several important issues such as providing a general overview of how the government functions and what resources it provides, as well as some current issues the State of Florida is facing in government administration. Because the State of Florida is a state government, it tends to resemble the national government in composition and organization of their executive branch agencies (Milakovich, 2013, p. 21). The work and services provided by the State of Florida include services for children and families, such as services concerning adoption, child abuse, children with disabilities, food stamps, and marriage/divorce. They also provide services involving colleges and universities, courts and corrections, environmental and wildlife preservation/protection, healthcare administration, highway patrol and safety, utility regulations, transportation, revenue (taxes), and a host of other areas. In order to pay for all of the services which they provide, Governor Rick Scott has created a budget of $78.4 billion for the state of Florida in the 2015 2016 fiscal year (Scott, 2016, p. 13). This budget also includes the employment of 113,687 people who compromise the total state workforce (Scott, 2016, p. 14). A crucial role in the State of Florida is the role of citizen participation. Citizen participation and community engagement play an extremely important part in a democratic ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. What Extent Do Liberals Support Democracy To what extent do liberals support democracy (45 marks) Democracy is the ultimate political form of ideological liberalism. It refers to the ideal form of state, and is common to both classical and modern liberals. In the 19th century, liberals often saw democracy as threatening or dangerous. Political theorists such as Plato and Aristotle viewed democracy as being a system of rule at the expense of wisdom and property. The principle that the will of the majority should prevail over the minority may have negative effects. In Northern Ireland, a very divided religious country, if the 51% get their way, the other 49% will be in outrage. Democracy thus comes down to the rule of the 51%, as French politician Alexis De Tocqueville ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Therefor although citizens may vote for a leader, they will then make decisions based on a small number of peoples view for the majority of the people. The minority ruling the majority. However a reason why liberals support democracy is that it shows each individual is equal one vote per person, gives everyone equal influence on how countries governed. Since voting is done individually, it constraints the collective pressures of groups within society. To conclude, liberals are now staunch advocates of democracy as it provides personal development, consent and all individuals are equal. Modern liberals embrace democracy, but only in the specific liberal form. They reject other forms of democracy, which may be less pluralist or more participatory, as downright ... Using these allows for the information to be reflected on when producing lessons. Therefore, this report will be focusing on the observations made on a child within an early childhood centre. Focusing on analysing and discussing the observations made on the child s cognitive and socio emotional development domains. Also, showing how both the cognitive and socio emotional domains inter relate with a child s holistic development. 2. According to Gonzalez Mena (2010), teachers should ensure children s cognitive development is given plenty of opportunities to be nurtured and extended through small collaborative groups. After the discussions Sarah was still interested in the butterflies, and while in the art area used her reflection skills to create a drawing depicting a butterfly emerging from its chrysalis. Therefore, creativity is important in promoting cognitive development and should be either planned or spontaneous (Gonzalez Mena Widmeyer Eyer, 2012). Thus, ensuring the learning environment stimulate and encourages a child s curiosity, and allows for free exploration. In Piaget s theory of cognitive development, it is emphasise that children learn through exploring and creating their world. The theory viewed cognitive development as stages. Based on those ideas in the theory a four year olds cognitive development is viewed as the preoperative stage, where a child is able to use symbols or words to represent objects, places and events through speech and are (Gonzalez Mena Widmeyer Eyer, 2012). • 6. Character Sketch Of Tolstoy 2 Tolstoy s Character. Tolstoy was a multi dimensional man. In his long career he had been a teacher and educational theorist, a philosopher and social critic, a successful farmer and paterfamilias, a soldier, and a prophet. Above all, however, he was a great artist, and it is on his fiction that his fame at present rests. The literary career of this great writer of the Russian land (as his contemporary Turgenev called him) may be divided into three parts: the early period of literary apprenticeship (1851 63), the period of the great novels (1863 77), and the later period of preoccupation with the message of his religious teaching (1878 1910). The works of the early period may be regarded as the school in which Tolstoy taught himself to write. He isolated the themes and developed the literary ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Before the French surrender, Pierre s brush with execution becomes a cutting satire of French bureaucracy, which functions so badly that Pierre is nearly executed simply because a general was interrupted while he was deciding Pierre s sentence. However, the Russians also become objects of Tolstoy s critique. He depicts disorganization and a lack of professionalism on both sides. The French failures are not limited to their ineffective bureaucracy. Since the battle of Borodino and the looting of Moscow, Tolstoy writes, the French army had borne within itself, as it were, the chemical conditions of its decomposition Napoleon and his generals seem to have good intentions they order their men not to loot and treat the Russians they meet respectfully. • 7. Examples Of Appearance Vs Reality In Macbeth Macbeth: Appearance vs. Reality In William Shakespeare s Macbeth, many characters appear happy but in reality everything is not what it seems. In the beginning of the book, all the characters acted as if all of them were friends, and everyone s personalities came out. Throughout the book the witches acted, doubtful and put forth impressions that changed the book s setting. The witches victoriously manage to fool, cheat and provoke the bad throughout Scotland. The witches enter the scene and they start to talk about where they want to meet Macbeth and how they want to meet him upon the heath. Fair is foul, and foul is fair (20, 1.1.13) What is significant about this quote is that fair means that things will look pretty and foul means that the ugly will become beautiful. Macbeth is a perfect example for appearance versus reality, because he is portrayed to the readers as an evil person by planning deaths just so he can be top notch. What some characters see in Macbeth is leadership and bravery when he stepped up to be King Of Cawdor after Duncan s death. Would it please your Highness to honor us with your royal company. (158, 3, 4, 51 52) This quote shows that Ross is being loyal to King Macbeth and also that he respects him. Another statement about this theme is in Act 5, Scene 5 when the Birnam Woods appeared to be moving, but in reality soldiers were carrying branches for camouflage, and making their way to the castle to attack Macbeth. Courage In Finding Forrester Having courage to accomplish a new task may not only be extremely difficult for most, but also harder for one to apply that courage to go out of their way to an unfamiliar place. In the movie Finding Forrester, both of the main characters, Forrester and Jamal, portray the idea of courage throughout the entire movie. Finding Forrester is a classic movie about a forgotten author, Forrester, and a teenager, Jamal, with a hidden dream. Jamal and Forrester create a special bond between the two of them through their love of writing. This bond between the two allows for each of them to gain courage. Since Forrester gained a new sense of courage from his friendship with Jamal, it enables him to go to professor Crawfords classroom and to stand up for Jamal. Jamal is accused of plagiarizing a paper that he wrote for Crawford s class, but the catch behind is that the beginning of the paper is actually Forrester s work. This accusation on Jamal creates a new conflict not only for Jamal, but also for Forrester. Jamals conflict is to either break his promise with Forrester or risk being accused of cheating. For Forrester, his obstacle is to either overcome his fear or let Jamal suffer from his mistake. Forrester builds up his courage and goes to read one of Jamal s writings to the class, and prove that he did not actually plagiarize. Since Forrester secluded himself from all of society because of his self guilt, it takes a tremendous amount of courage to go out into an unfamiliar place, especially to a classroom with a professor who attempted to tear him down by criticizing Forrester.Movielocity (2000) stated, It comes down to a moment of truth for both men; for Jamal, a choice between following his dream or betraying a friend, and for Forrester, a decision to remain closed off or to look at the world through new eyes (p.3). Here, movielocity is saying that because this conflict occurred, it gave both of the men another conflict within themselves. For Forrester, it was to either remain secluded or to see the world through new eyes and to help his friend. Since Forrester gained confidence from Jamal, it helped him to make the right decision with his inner conflict and go to Crawfords classroom and see the world through fresh eyes. Jamal also portrays courage when he transfers to a new private school. Jamals previous school is a normal public school while this new private school is prestigious. Born with the name of Gamil Gharbi, he had an Algerian father and a mother of French descent. The father was a relatively successful businessman that did most of his work overseas; the mother, Monique, was a nurse with a good family background (Weston Aubrey, 1990). The family was well off due to their career success, but what looked like a perfect marriage on paper was horrific for the mother and the children behind closed doors. Described as a very brutal man who did not seem to have any control of his emotions (MacDonell et al., 1989, para. 3), Marc s father treated his wife like a servant and often physically abused her for the most minor nuances. • 14. Robert E. Lee s Life During The Civil War The Civil War was not only a time of regional tension, but of personal tension, especially for Confederate army leaders. The constant pressure from needing to defend and protect Southern independence contributed to the rise of anxiety and stress related medical disorders. Robert E. Lee, a brilliant Confederate general and skilled tactician, was such a case. General Lee s health during his pre Civil War years was without blemish. However, with the beginning of the Civil War, Lee s health experienced noticeable decline. Later in his life, doctors diagnosed Lee with pericarditis, but more modern clinical evaluations of Robert E Lee s symptoms conclude that his condition was more likely attributed to stress induced ischemic heart disease (Mainwaring Tribble 244). Lee s condition was accelerated by the wartime stress and contraction of malaria in 1863, leading to pains on the battlefield which impaired strategical judgment. Robert E. Lee s first year as commander was impressive in military accomplishments, but his confidence was shaken after a devastating loss in the family. The general assumed his command of the Army of Northern Virginia in May of 1862 after the Battle of Seven Pines wounded Joseph Johnson. Lee was 54 years old at the time and led the Confederates at 3 major battles that year Battle of Seven Days, Second Bull Run, and Antietam. The Narrator In Ralph Ellison s Invisible Man The book Invisible Man by Ralph Ellison begins with a narrator describing his current living conditions and his view of himself as an invisible man. It soon becomes apparent that the book will be a description of this narrator s life and how he transformed from a young, smart student on his way to college to an invisible man who lives in a basement, stealing electricity. We see in the beginning, how the narrator transformed from being hopeful and eager to a self proclaimed invisible man. While being forced onto his knees to fight for money on a rug, he wonders if this rug will be where he gives his speech. Finding himself facing off with the biggest boy participating in the battle, the narrator only thinks about what the watching white people would be happiest to see. He stopped fighting back against the brutal beating he was getting for the amusement of racist, rich people because he believed that his defeat would please the watching crowd. Even when the narrator was embarrassed and forced to claw for fake money, he was disappointed with the thought that he might not be able to deliver his speech. Even after disrespect, racism, and even outright violence, the narrator was still very eager to please the white men in the room. The older narrator recalls an incident in which he bumped into a tall blond one night. That man called him an insulting name and in retaliation, the narrator began beating the man and eventually pulled out his knife. The older narrator does stop his violent impulse, but looking back on it, regrets his mercy. The extremely violent reaction is a change from the passive and eager to please young narrator. • 20. The Traditions Of Rituals By Nicholas B. Dawe Essay The traditions of rituals is strongly examined by author Nicholas B. Dirks in Ritual and Resistance: Subversion as a Social Fact, where he attempts to persuade readers of the drawbacks of ritual practices through an anthropological point of view. Dirks explains to his readers of the fundamentals of rituals as: brimming with resistance , opposed to [everyday] , along with the centrality of the subject of power (Dirks 1994, 483 503). Continuing to state his supporting arguments through the article, Dirk s concludes that too much of regular (daily) ritual practices creates a normalization in the ritual itself (Dirks 1994, 483 503). Understanding the perspective of the creation of ordinarity of the practices, one could argue that the repetition of a curtain act of a tradition can become a normality such as Dirks states in his writings; however, if the act of tradition is not conducted daily, yet instead semi annually/annually, there would not be a normality. Dirks presents his thesis as [focussing] on everyday forms of resistance, critiquing both anthropological assumptions about ritual and historical reifications of [the] assumptions (Dirks 1994, 483). Dirks finds the negative components of ritual practices, and continually supports his facts through other scholars opinions as well, however in a separate article of ritual subject matter, Niels Gutschow writes about the respecting aspects of ritual. Debt has become an increasing problem for students who want to attend college. As more students try to further their education, tuition rises and so does the amount of loans taken out each year. According to Belkin, Students attending public four year institutions this academic year are paying an average of $12,620, up $220 from last year, for tuition, room and board, meaning that tuition is only growing not decreasing from previous years(Belkin n.p.). Two thirds of college graduates have to take out loans in order to get through college(Dwyer, McCloud, Hodson 1133 1155). Many people question, Does rising college debt limit who attends and completes college? , while many people have different opinions on this particular subject, I believe that it depends on the student and their situation if college debt limits who attends and completes college because it depends on their financial stability, it depends on if they are borrowing the right amount and it depends on if their degree provides them with the means to pay back their loans, however, many people would disagree with me and say that yes, college ... It played a substantial role throughout Equiano s life, especially during his slave years, as presented through the writings of his experiences. More specifically, one can argue that his religious conversion to Christianity meant a type of liberty equally significant as his own freedom from slavery. To achieve freedom, Equiano used hard work, education, and his faith in God. His quotations and assertions of Christianity during his life, especially throughout slavery, showed how much he increasingly relied on the Bible during his unpleasant journey. He increasingly became to believe that freedom could be achieved through God. Religion strongly influenced Equiano s negative viewpoint of slavery, and with the help of his faith in God, lead him to achieve freedom. Equiano describes the relatively benevolent conditions of slavery in the small district of the Kingdom of Benin in Africa, where he was born. This revolution sparked much political and social debate around the world, about what was next for the Egyptians. With the ousting of Mubarak, the Muslim Brotherhood saw it s chance to run for political power and therefore began their campaign. Before looking at the Muslim Brotherhood s role in the 2011 Revolution and the elections that would follow, their moderation as an Islamist organization must be examined. In order to do so, this paper will examine to what extent did the Muslim Brotherhood Moderate from the 1980 s 2000 s? In Jillian Schwedler s article, Faith in Moderation: Islamist Parties in Jordan and Yemen, she explains moderation as, when a movement moves from a closed and rigid worldview to one that is more open and tolerant of alternative perspectives and encounters ideological change (Schwedler 3). Although throughout her analysis she discusses the inclusion moderation hypothesis, I will not be integrating this into my paper. I will argue that the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt moderated between the 1980 s 2000 s because of their evolution of ideologies on minority religious groups, women and the diversification of issues. I will be doing this by discussing their moderation on minority religious groups, women, and the diversification of issues within the state. The religious group I will be focusing on is the Copts, or Coptic Christians. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Such a theory implies that managers have a duty to stakeholders. Stakeholders are defined as those groups who have a stake in or claim on the firm. Translated to the human resource development (HRD) context it suggests that each stakeholder group has a right not to be treated as a means to some end and should therefore participate in determining the future direction of human resource development activities within the organization. The forces are generated by stakeholders in the course of pursuing their specific interests, goals and objectives. The second premiss is that the outcomes of the HRD function s strategies are the collective result of all the forces brought to bear on it by its stakeholders during implementation. It says in the constitution that all men are created equally which socially speaking there are not any nobles there are not any serfs or lords there are just citizens. But what happens to slaves? Well in Thomas Paine s common sense he says that the government should protect a citizens property and in the Southern colonies slaves were a part of their own property. But if all men are created equal then how can a man be another man s property. The founding father s had decided and played a large role in the social culture of The United States but however ... The Effects of Smoking Bans on Victims of Exposure to Second Hand Smoke Exposure to second hand smoke, which for the purposes of this report will be designated SHS, poses extremely detrimental health risks for any and all individuals who consider themselves non smokers, especially young children and pregnant women. SHS is estimated to contribute to heart attacks in nonsmokers and causes nearly 53,800 deaths in the United States alone on an annual basis.1 According to the United States Surgeon General s report from 2010, tobacco use remains the single largest preventable cause of death and disease in this country, causing approximately 443,000 adult deaths from smoking related illnesses each year.2 Additionally, smoking has been ... Lung cancer was the most common cancer mortality in men and the second most common in women.6 The study also noted smoking differences in each of the three major language/cultural regions of Switzerland, with the mortality rates higher in the French and Italian speaking regions of the country, reflecting the habits and mortality rates of both France and Italy, where smoking is much more prevalent, and the German region (which is by far the largest) having significantly lower smoking mortality rates, due to Germany s increased anti smoking campaigns and laws protecting citizens from SHS.7 Although not as stringent as the US laws forbidding smoking in almost all indoor spaces, Europe s leading countries are now attempting to curb the use of tobacco products, many for the first time in their histories. All studies have pointed to the extreme dangers SHS provides for pregnant women and children, especially adolescents. In a report published by the Center for Global Tobacco Control, it was demonstrated that efforts to curtail indoor exposure to SHS was working. The results of the study showed that the proportion of US middle and high school students who were exposed to indoor SHS actually declined from 65.5% in 2000 to 40.5% in 2009, with significant ... • 40. Space Shuttle Experiment The Space Shuttle was an interesting exhibit with many fascinating attractions. There were a lot of connections between how the spaceship works and our class, electricity and magnetism. One of the main connections between these two were the tires on the space shuttle. The spaceship only used one set of tires per trip because it needed to have a lot of traction in order to stop the ship in time which means that they can not be reused. Throughout the trip however, the tires go through a lot of change. Once they escape the Earth s atmosphere, they lose a lot of pressure. The air inside the tires could go through a phase change that would cause energy be created which in return energy is calculated by Q=mLf. The next piece that helped me gain insight into how the physics of our class is used in the space program was a sample of the control room in NASA s headquarters. I saw how they use infrared displays to check the spaceship s surroundings. The infrared displays use multiple concepts from our class, including infrared spectrums and frequency. These infrared spectrums can be measured with K=2pi/흀. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The exterior of the spaceship is coated with ceramic tiles in order to protect the crew from the heat of leaving the atmosphere. Again, the entire ship will expand due to this extreme heat blast. Here, you not only have to take into account the thermal expansion, but you also have to account for volume expansion 흙V=βV0흙T. Towards the end of the exhibit, I learned that there are close to 2.5 million moving parts on the ship. • 43. A Defense Of Abortion By Judith Jarvis Thomson Abortion is a major issue that has lead to many different opinions, ideas, and various debates. Proponents for abortion often use the fact that a fetus is not a moral person to justify their position, whereas those who are against the issue often claim that a fetus is a moral person and should deserve every right a moral person has, including the right to live. Judith Jarvis Thomson, however, takes an entirely different approach. In her article A Defense of Abortion Thomson argues that even if a fetus is considered to be a human being does not automatically ensure it the right to live. Thomson s position leads to many oppositions and critiques. Foot s article, for example, Killing versus Letting Die attempts to point out the flaws in Thomson s argument. Foot claims that a fetus status must be considered when addressing the issue of abortion and that Thomson s argument is invalid. Although Thomson s argument may seem valid at first, Foot does offer considerable evidence critiquing the validity of Thomson s argument. One of the main issues Foot has with Thomson s argument is the analogy her paper consistently relies on to relay her position. In the analogy, a person is kidnapped and placed in a kidney machine that is connected to an ill violinist, who is in desperate need of a functioning kidney. With that analogy, Thomson argues that an individual s right to agency trumps over another person s right to life if that person has to depend on and is a burden to the ... Because the setting of standards is a social decision. Standards place restrictions on behavior; therefore, they must be accepted by the affected parties...getting acceptance is an exceedingly complicated process that requires skillful marketing in a political arena. The Board Of Overseers, Ladies And Gentlemen Essay Devin thomas Mr. President, Dr. Conant, members of the Board of Overseers, Ladies and Gentlemen: I am profoundly grateful, touched by the great distinction and honor and great compliment accorded me by the authorities of Harvard this morning. In these historic and lovely surroundings, this perfect day, and this very wonderful assembly, it is a tremendously impressive thing to an individual in my position. But to speak more seriously, I need not tell you that the world situation is very serious. That must be apparent to all intelligent people. I think one difficulty is that the problem is one of such enormous complexity that the very mass of facts presented to the public by press and radio make it exceedingly difficult for the man in the street to reach a clear appraisement of the situation. Furthermore, the people of this country are distant from the troubled areas of the earth, and it is hard for them to comprehend the plight and consequent reactions of the long suffering peoples of Europe and the effect of those reactions on their governments in connection with our efforts to promote peace in the world. In considering the requirements for the rehabilitation of Europe, the physical loss of life, the visible destruction of cities, factories, mines, and railroads was correctly estimated, but it has become obvious during ... Book then flees to the Amish hideout with Rachel and Samuel because it is no longer safe in Boston. Book is cared for by the Amish by using traditional herbal teas and remedies. Rachel walks in and sees that Samuel is in possession of the gun and sends him downstairs. Since it was tradition for women to be married by a certain age, Louise Mallard must have obligated to marry Brently. Sitting in the armchair, she gazes out of the window and starts indulges in deep thought, which establishes her as an intelligent individual. The open window from which Louise gazes is symbolic for her freedom and the good fortune that she is now presented with. Her attention to the blue sky, fluffy clouds, tree tops and the delicious breath of rain denote her newly found inner well being.
