Substance Abuse And Low Education
It is no doubt that the Appalachian region is discredited of its merits, despite the perceived negative
social problems associated with the area. What many outsiders of the area fail to acknowledge is that
many of the same problems of Appalachia plague other regions of the United States as well. In
Appalachia, there are many problems that can be associated with the area and usually the people from
the area are grouped into a poor environment a lower socioeconomic class. Across the region there is a
wide social problem on low education rates and relatively high substance abuse statistics. What others
also fail to see is that the Appalachian region has a plethora of services to offer along with a rich
heritage embedded in its people. The good people of the community have worked together to
overcome the past and current issues of substance abuse and low education by forming different
groups to offer for the public to take part in.
Substance abuse is heavily associated with the region of Appalachia. Appalachian people are looked at
negatively for being categorized with drug and alcohol addictions. The issue has increased since coal
mining and other industrial work places are declining in the area (Sodomick, 2014). People resort to
drug trade to make profit since the career field is declining in the area. Because substance abuse has
become so popular, overdose and countless deaths have occurred more often as well. The past few
years, it has been a horrific trouble with the

Starbucks and Leadership Traits Essay
One statement made by Starbucks on the structure of leadership is through our unwavering
commitment to excellence and our guiding principles, we bring the unique Starbucks Experience to
life for every customer through every cup (Starbucks, 2013).). Starbucks has been a leader in the
beverage industry since the 1980 s; yes Starbucks opened before that but did not start to control the
industry until the 80 s. Leadership has always been a point of emphasis within the company not only
with its internal family but with the community as well. Many leadership traits can be attributed to
Starbucks success but as one analyst points out Servant leadership really stands out. From general

Green Mountain Coffee Roaster one of the many competitors of Starbucks has taken a completely

any less successful. GMCR does not deal with the consumer face to face but to retailers. We Innovate
with Passion With courage and curiosity, we are shaping the future by redefining the consumer
experience (Green Mountain Coffee Roasters, 2013). Some of the key duties for Green Mountain
Coffee Roasters managers include communication of the Business Unit vision, mission, values,
operating principles and annual objectives to all associates. Other duties include management and
coaching of manufacturing team coaches and team leaders, Star Point Leaders, technicians, and 75+

Modernity and Enlightenment in The Persian Letters by...
Modernity and Enlightenment in The Persian Letters by Charles Montesquieu The Persian Letters
(1721), a fictional piece by Charles Montesquieu, is representative of the Enlightenment, both
supporting and showing conflict with its ideas. The initial perception of European people, in particular
the French, is of a busy people with goals and ambition whose focus is progress; in this way they are
able to gain knowledge a core foundation to Enlightenment. One particular section of the Persian
Letters states that the revolt against the authorities was lead by women, who through reason, saw the
inequity of their treatment and formed a voice. In Montesquieu s story, their decision to change

The thought was that human kind was emerging from an age of darkness into Enlightenment . This
idea was focused around the advancement of scientific knowledge, the development of respect for
humanity and above all, reason. People of this time believed that knowledge had to be earned and that
through experience and observation, guided by reason, progress was inevitable. The idea of
Enlightenment filtered its way into society and was became institutionalized. During this period,
European traditions also came under the microscope and were challenged by many scholars and
philosophers. Economical, social and political attitudes were studied and began to move away from
negativity. People then focused on the positives of life and human nature. The monarch and general
hierarchy of society was questioned and related back to natural intentions for mankind. Frenchmen felt
enslaved by their current authorities and tried to overthrow them through the improvement of literacy,
anonymous tracts and social exploration. As the focus of Enlightenment was on the natural law and
order of the world, religious beliefs and especially Christian theology were a central topic. People of
this age were trying to simplify common day human laws back to nature as it provided the basic
metaphor for how mankind should live. In Letter 24 of Les letters persanes, Rica s perception of

How Does Donahue Present Depression In Rabbit Run
Rabbit Runs Away from Depression
Depression has the ability to control one s behavior. In Rabbit Run, John Updike uses Janice and
Rabbit to portray depression s manipulative way of destroying a person. Through many articles, it is
explained how the effects of depression cause a downwards spiral of self destruction. Many authors
have explored the effects of depression and linked it alcohol abuse as well. This can be easily
compared to Janice s alcohol consumption throughout the book and how it lead her to her downfall
and eventual murder of her daughter as well as Rabbit s indecisive mind. As Rabbit runs from Janice
in an attempt to chase his youth, he is just as numb as his wife. Janice drinks her pain away. However,
this does not only affect Janice, but her whole family. Her kids are dragged into this situation as well.
As one character struggles through depression and all that results from it, the rest of her family is
dragged through it with her.
Depression is not only a mental illness that disables one s ability to think and act freely, but it can
actually mold someone into a different person while taking over his or her entire life. The dark illness

In another novel by Updike, Too Far to Go, the characters share the same issue with alcohol abuse. It
is explained through a criticism by Peter Donahue that [the character s] drunkenness bolsters his
preoccupation with his own perception of events and seemingly removes him from any consequences
for his actions (Donahue) similarly to Janice. The author also states how Richard knew though his
mind was deeply cushioned and cottony and difference that an event has occurred which in another
sobriety he would regret his intoxication but for him not only from an emotional response to the
accident from the physical pain of it as well which like Rabbit feels as he runs away from his
situation. It is almost as if he does not feel the pain of

Essay on Timshel in Steinbeck´s East of Eden
Throughout Steinbeck s novel East of Eden, he captures the idea of Timshel through different
characters. Many believe that Timshel is left in open, giving the character the choice. Moreover,
Timshel is actually planted in one, they either fight evil with Timshel or give into the dark side.
Throughout the vivid text of Mrs. Trask, Steinbeck expresses her as a Timshel less human. As he talks
of her wild actions, confessing to crimes she could not possibly have committed (Steinbeck 15) and
drowning herself in a pond so shallow that she had to get down on her knees (Steinbeck 15) the reader
is able to discover that she is a woman struck with evil. As learned later in the book, Timshel means

Tom, like Mrs. Trask, doesn t contain Timshel in himself because he broke open a new box of shells
and put one of them in the cylinder of his well oiled Smith and Wesson .38 and he set the loaded
chamber one space to the left of the firing pin (Steinbeck 410). Overall showing the relation between
the two, both being Timshel less. If they had an ounce of it in themselves they would of been able to
prevail, as seen in other characters.
While Tom and Mrs. Trask did not hold the gift of Timshel in themselves, Cal does. Although he
suffers from a long term, inner battle with good and evil, Lee is there to show his his true potential and
the Timshel inside of him. When he confesses to his father, stating that he did it and he s responsible
for the Aron s death and his fathers sickness (Steinbeck 595) he questions the good in him. While Lee
does not come right out and tell him he s a good man he makes his father tell him, proving to Cal his
true potential. After Lee pesters Adam, while he s on his deathbed, he utters his last words Timshel ,
giving Cal the freedom he deserves. Although the later actions of Cal are unaware, it can be inferred
that he prevails, due to his earlier actions when he s in such a situation. Proving overall that Timshel is
inside of him.
The portrayal of Timshel is apparent throughout East of Eden, giving man the choice between good
and evil. While Cal shows signs of it in himself, Tom and Mrs. Trask do not,

Summary of the Hidden Persuaders by Vance Packard
| Book Summary and Critique: The Hidden Persuaders Summary of THE HIDDEN PERSUADERS
by Vance Packard 1. The Depth Approach. This book is about the large scale and sometimes
impressively successful efforts to use insights from psychiatry and the social sciences (and provided
all too willingly by cooperative psychologists and social scientists) to channel our unthinking habits,
our purchasing decisions, and our thought processes. The use of mass psychoanalysis to guide
campaigns of persuasion has become the basis of a multimillion dollar industry. Some of the
attempted manipulation is simply amusing. Some of it is disquieting, particularly when viewed us a
portent of more intensive and effective efforts that may lie ahead. ... Show more content on

Studies of narcissism indicated that nothing appeals more to people than themselves, so why not help
people buy products that were projections of themselves? The image builders reasoned that they could
thus spark love affairs by the millions, and the sale of self images soon was expediting the movement
of hundreds of millions of dollars worth of merchandise to consumers, particularly gasoline,
cigarettes, and automobiles. 6. Rx for Our Secret Distresses. The merchandisers concluded that
billions of dollars worth of sales depended heavily on successfully manipulating or coping with our
guilt, fears, anxieties, hostilities, loneliness, and inner tensions. Guilt proved to be one of the major
problems the motivational analysts had to grapple with, for though self indulgent and easy does it
products such as candy, soft drinks, cigarettes, liquor, cake mixes, and laborsaving appliances were
becoming a significant sector of the total market, Americans still were basically puritans at heart.
Therefore, the marketing of such products had to assuage guilt feelings and offer absolution. Cigarette
advertising began to reflect the insights of MR: people were shown smoking while under pressure or
as a reward for tough jobs done. Similarly, candy was marketed as a way to reward oneself, or, when
sold in bite sized pieces, as self indulgence in moderation. Household appliances were

Finny s A Separate Peace
In the novel a Separate Peace we find our two main characters, Finny and Gene at a boarding school
in New England in the thick of World War 1. This book tells the story of transitioning into a age of
adolescence full of darkness and jealousy. As they are transitioning into adolescence they are
confronted with lots of new relationships, yet the way this relationships develop along the plot of the
book is the real reason this book is interesting. These boys are different in so many ways (rules,
spontaneity, sports, academics, beliefs, jealousy, backgrounds), and yet they are drawn together in a
special bond. Finny is a very strong character, his abilities in sports, academics, and life is what helps
the plot develop and show us more in depth details of the story and how life was at Devon. His
relationships with the other boys that lived on campus shows how one of the main character thinks.

Summary Of Propererary In A Seperate Piece By John Knowles
Gene Forrestor, the main character in A Seperate Piece by John Knowles, goes through profound
changes and growth after learning what his actual feelings were towards his friend Finny. Gene starts
to overwhelm with painful emotions and unwillingly hurts some of those around him. Though there
will be a point in time, which will shape Gene and realize what he really has done. In the beginning of
the story, it is the year of 1942, at an all boys boarding school at Devon when everyone finds out they
had just bombed Central Europe for the first time. To celebrate, Gene s friend Finny decides to wear a
pink shirt as an emblem along with Devon s tie as a belt. They were always together, best of pals.
Gene followed Finny s lead in anything. Nobody could seperate them at all. Once dressed, Finny goes
out into the pto charm the instructors. Though when the instructors notice his belt, Gene expectedly
waited for his friend to be laughed at, but Finny got away with it. Gene express, He had gotten away
with everything. I felt a sudden stab of disappointment. That was because I just wanted to see some
more excitement; that must have been it, (2.28). Here Gene begins to feel a bit of jelousy and envy
towards Finny for being the only one able to charm the instructors, even though he doesn t admit it.
Upcoming, because of Gene s emotions expanding over time he almost killed Finny. At the time Gene

Classification in Genesis 2:19 20
In Genesis 2:19 20 the LORD GOD forms the wild animals and birds from the ground and presents
them before Adam for him to name them. In these lines of the Scripture, Adam is presented with a task
to make sense out of the complex world of nature by simplifying it in a way that makes it easier for
him to comprehend its complexity and interrelationships. The universality and integrated nature of the
universe is expressed in these lines in that the LORD GOD does not name the creatures or explain any
relationship between them. HE leaves that up to Adam to interpret the world around him and to
organize it according to his own reasoning and understanding.
In these lines, as he is naming the creatures presented before him, he follows a line of classification
that groups animals with similar features together into a class. The lines of the Scripture convey the
idea that Adam observed livestock as creatures that could be domesticated and made use of to make
life easier for man and to make the Earth habitable and comfortable for him. He observed the tame
nature of these creatures and classified them separately. Similarly, he observed the wild and savage
nature of the wild animals and realized that these posed a danger because of their sharp claws,
powerful bodies and sharp teeth. Therefore, he classified them separately as wild animals. Finally,
Adam observed the creatures that possessed wings that enabled

Video Headset With Directional Sound Technology Essay
A. Executive Summary: Lars Inman, CEO of RLK Media, needs to make a decision on how to
develop the iVid. This video headset with directional sound technology has the potential to
revolutionize the consumer electronics industry. Although recently RLK Media has been struggling
against the competition and has seen their margins evaporate. With the company s declining
performance the board of directors has threatened to find a replacement CEO, making Lars decision
all the more critical. He is being pressured by his R D department to invest $6 million to hire software
engineers and produce iVid internally. However, the optimal option is for RLK Media to outsource the
R D of iVid to Inova. Not only will it strength the company s margins, it guarantees that they obtain a
competitive advantage of being first to the market.
B. Industry Dynamics: RLK Media is known for producing high quality, American made products in
the consumer electronics industry. This industry highly competitive due to the need of constant

The Performance Art Center On Texas State University s...
On the first of November I visited the Performance Art Center, on Texas State University s campus.
There I saw the Texas State Jazz Ensemble perform with guest, Steve Houghton. The performance
began at 7:30pm and lasted for an approximate hour and a half. As I observed the stage I noticed that
there were a variety of instruments played in the jazz ensemble. The instruments that were played
included string (grand piano, electric guitar, electric bass, bass), brass (trumpet, trombone, French
horn), woodwind (tenor sax, alto sax, baritone sax) and percussion instruments (six piece drum set,
bongos). On the drum set was, special guest, Steve Houghton from the music school of Iowa. Overall,
there were several different pieces of different sub genres of jazz music. The pieces that were played
in the ensemble included the following: Slide s Derangement by Slide Hampton, BBC by Bob
Florence, Dangerous Curves by Matt Harris, Blues for 70 by John Clayton, Jazz Crimes by Joshua
Reden, Isotope by Joe Henderson, Basie s Back in Town by Ernie Wilkins. Each piece named above
had its own uniqueness. The characteristics of each musical piece will be described below: Slide s
Derangement started off with a solo performed by an alto sax. There were also solos performed by a
trumpet and the drums. Each solo was accompanied by a melodic repetition of numerous crescendos
performed by brass and woodwind instruments. The drums and the rhythm kept the upbeat tempo by

Respect Essay
Respect Many people have different ideas about what respect means. I think it means having respect
for others, property, and respect for yourself. Most people want respect even if it is just a little. The
American Heritage Dictionary states that respect is 1. A feeling of appreciative, often deferential
regard, esteem. 2. The state of being regarded with honor or esteem. 3. Willingness to show
consideration or appreciation. People demand different amounts of respect, though not everyone is
willing to give the amount needed. Maybe this is because not every one knows what respect means.
The first rule is respect for others. A few of those others are teachers, police, authority figures, and
business people. Respect ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This respect should be shown on every ones property including friend s, teachers, and even strangers.
The last rule is respecting yourself. Respecting yourself can mean holding your head up high and
respecting your own ideas. You can share your ideas even if you might not thing they are right. But it
can lead to more important things like peer pressure, and not giving into it. It is about not letting it
affect you in any way or sort. You can not have respect for others if you can not respect yourself.
There are many little things you can do to show respect. For example you can clean your room and set
the dishes. You can raise your hand when some one else is talking when you have an opinion. Don t be
afraid to share your opinions and ideas. They can be a good example for someone. Be a person that
another person would want to look up to. You can not be this person when you have a lack of respect.
You may not notice it, but respect plays a role in our daily lives. Respect follows you wherever you
go. Whether it is in school, your home, or in a restaurant. You may not notice it that other people give
you respect, but you do notice when they don t. Even for the simplest reasons. If you are not respectful
than you will not be respected. You can t DEMAND respect, nor make people give respect out of fear.
The scare will not work. You have to get respect by earning it. Remaining calm in bad situations and

Capulet And Juliet Relationships
The relationship between Juliet and her parents, Lord Capulet and Lady Capulet is unhealthy because
of the lack of communication between them. Juliet has a stronger relationship and has more
communication with the nurse rather than with her parents, which leads to their relationship being
weak. The lack of communication between them leads to many conflicts in the story. In the beginning
Lady Capulet wants to have a discussion with Juliet and insist the nurse be there and says, ..nurse

mother. Lady Capulet wants to have a discussion with Juliet about getting married in her future. Lady
Capulet wants the nurse to be there to help assist her in this discussion because she does not even

Similarities Between Lenin And Stalin
Lenin and Stalin were similar in a few ways, Lenin s ultimate goal for the Soviet Union and the
Communist party was World Revolution. World revolution was led by the working class called the
proletariat. With that Stalin has some of the similar ideas but went down a different road to establish
his idea and goal. When it comes to Stalinism, there are essential features that are unique. Stalin used
some ideas of Marxism and Leninism along with his own spin in it. One big difference that makes
Stalin different from Lenin is the policy that each had. Lenin s idea was world revolution, where Stalin
used his idea of socialism in one country. Stalin s socialism in one country focused more on building
up the Soviet Union and the Soviet Union is general. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Five Year Plans were set up by Stalin and his right hand men; they set up these goals in a few
categories of the Soviet Union. It was called the Five Year Plan because they hoped to achieve
everything they set up in five years; once the goals were achieved they would discuss and set up the
next Five Year Plan. In the first Five Year Plan, it focused on agriculture. Before the plan, the farmers
and the workers essentially worked on their own farms that were run by their families, allowing them
to have the freedom to do as they pleased, but with Socialism on the brink everything changed.
Socialism includes the government in charge of everything, meaning that collective farming was the
new thing. With that farmers and the peasants were taken away from the farm and then everyone was
combined into what they called a collective farm. This meant that everyone on that farm had to work
together to get the outcome that they wanted. People didn t have the choice of having their farm put
into a collective farm. In the case if anyone didn t like the idea or spoke out against the actions they
would be shipped to Siberia where they would work for hard labor or they could be shipped to
concentration camps. The idea of dekulakization happened to the kulaks, meaning that if there were
villages that had too many peasants would be liquidated. It was the same concept as collective

With that the government would be in control of everything. That was supposed to make the Union

Glass Ceiling And Discrimination Of Women In The Workplace
It is no secret or surprise that women have always, and continue to be paid less than men in the
workplace. Not only that, but women are also put in low status jobs, no matter their qualifications; a
lot of women are put in a box when it comes to their jobs or careers. It is mind blowing that women
are still facing inequality when it comes to work, considering we are living in very liberal times.
Women in work tend to go unnoticed, it might be because our nation and our world are so used to
women usually getting the shorter end of the stick, but it needs to be talked about more if we want
equality. When speaking about women in work, it is important to talk about the typical jobs women
take on that are sometimes low in status. First off, women are more likely to be employed in unpaid
care work and housework. They take these jobs because of the time availability, relative resource
perspectives, and the symbolic representation of their gender. When women take on paid jobs, it ends
up being balanced with unpaid work because of maternity leaves. All these normality s for women are
often criticized because there is a double shift which means women ... Show more content on

Glass ceiling is a limitation a women hits because of sexism, and this can apply to all women. A
concrete ceiling is a mix of racism and sexism, and this ceiling manly applies to women of color. A
stained glass ceiling applies women who are not able to reach higher positions in the church. All these
ceilings cover many cases of women not being able to reach their potentials because of the inequality
towards women. As I said before, women are put in feminine boxes, and they are stopped by these
ceilings and sometimes cannot get to where they want to be because society thinks that women can
only do nurturing, caring, and sensitive jobs instead of jobs that require rationality, strength, and

Of The Conflict Between Draco Malfoy And Harry Potter
One of the biggest conflict was between two magical houses; Gryffindor and Slytherin. This came
about because there was a rivalry between Harry Potter and Draco Malfoy. Ever since they came into
contact, Harry Potter and Draco have always had confirmation due to the fact that they both have two
totally different views of what is the right thing to do and what is the wrong thing to do; but when it
comes to the important things in their life they tend to have strong ideals about it. Harry Potter is a
twelve year old boy, who grew up with no parents because Voldemort had killed them. Due to this
happening it created a lighting bolt on Harry s forehead. This lightning bolt has made him a very
powerful person in the wizard s eyes. Harry ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, Draco stated Here take your book, I am sure that is the best your father could give you (
Rowling 75). When he said this to Harry, he was basically saying that you got it all and it is easy for
you to get around with all the teachers. If he was given the choice to be like Harry Potter than his
family would disown him and it would not make it any better because his family does not love him in
the first place. Draco was always pampered by his mother as a child and this made him not have a
backbone for others because he does not know how to. As stated earlier, Harry Potter is a young boy
who never got to experience the love of both parents but he did find the family feeling inside his
friends. These friendships lead to them getting in trouble together, fighting every situation that was
thrown their way and they were willing to die for each other. However, this can not be said about
Draco s friends. They are the lowest type of friends that existed due to the fact that they try to find
power and recognition through what Draco s provides in the friendship. Draco has never been given
the opportunity of a true friendship because he is self centered about himself and she gets that from his
father. He used people for his own benefit and does not care about how others feel in the situations.
They were different yet similar; Harry Potter and Draco both come from families with big reputation.

Morality In Macbeth
MORAL VALUE IN THE PLAY MACBETH
Positive moral values
a. Affection and love
Both Macbeth and Lady Macbeth love each other. Although they are blinded by the evil ambition,
they are a good couple. Macbeth loves his wife and so does she. Macbeth accepts her guidance and
advice and consults her concerning his plans. He shares his joy with his wife. Moreover, he is
affectionate in his action toward her and uses terms of endearment when speaking to her.
It is proved that when Macbeth is told of Lady Macbeth s death, he is too weary to feel more than just

First of all, the nature of these two organizations is totally different. Therefore, the products and
services offered by these companies are different. Hence, the organogram and organizational structure
of these companies are not the same. For example, TCS conducts supply chain management services
which need a long chain of management. But in case of Hills and Dales, the nature of the service
requires short chain of management eg childcare, residence service etc. Hence, for Hills and Dales,
internal communication network is shorter vertically than that of TCS.
Another difference in internal communication system is that, there is less peer interaction for Hills and
Dales. For example, an employee who is working for Hills and Dales in a childcare center will not be
communicated with other employees of other centers such as residential centers. But in case of TCS,
there is a higher chance of peer interaction as employees of different departments work together in
near proximity. Therefore, in case of TCS, the horizontal communication network is relatively

Women In A Room Of One s Own By Virginia Woolf
All throughout time men have been seen as superior to women, creating this long lasting gender
barrier. In the 20th century, women were seen as significantly lower than men. In two passages, from
Virginia Woolf s A Room of One s Own , it depicts the difference between the men s and women s

Since my early days as a student, things have changed a lot; from the mostly handwritten way of

Block ND is Buy and Maintain (Non Discretionary) and so the portfolio manager should be measured

For example, regulated utilities will lend themselves more naturally to a Buy and Maintain portfolio
than the more volatile technology sector. This is because every business cycle is different, and so are
the relative performance patterns among sectors. Using a disciplined approach, it is possible to
construct a resilient portfolio in each environment and through every phase of every business cycle
and that offers strong full phase average performance over its lifetime. Sector selection There are four
main phases to a normal market cycle. The recovery phase often sees strong growth, low interest rates
and growth in corporate profits. Sectors sensitive to interest rates and to economic growth such as
financials, industrials, information technology, and materials should do well. In the middle phase of
the cycle, positive GDP growth, strong credit growth and healthy corporate profitability tends to still
favor more economically sensitive sectors, such as information technology and industrials. In contrast,
later in the cycle, building inflationary pressures have often favored the energy and materials sectors,
which benefit from rising commodity prices. Defensive oriented sectors, such as healthcare, consumer
staples and utilities, have also generally performed well as the economy begins to slow, while

The Turn of the Screw is essentially an ambivalent text. Its narrative prompts divergent, even opposite
readings, but does not reconcile them. What happens remains irrevocably uncertain
James uses the prologue to the novel to introduce the themes with in this Novella but more
importantly he encourages the readers to be active in reading between the lines , and not to accept
what is said at face value , James achieves this by surrounding Douglass with a group of people who
are clearly and intently open about reading into the manuscripts further , they are critical and sceptical,
James also encourages the readers to search for sexual insinuations as Mrs Griffin does about the

She assumes he is corrupting the other learners, but instead of trying to find out what actually
happened she chooses a difficult path for herself , as the reader we can only assume that it is to win the
favour of her employer that she chooses to for full the role of the saviour.
The first supernatural account defiantly makes agreeing with the opening statement easy as there are
so many ways that Peter Quint s first sitting could be interpreted. Firstly and most obviously, as the
unknown narrator made clear that this was a ghost story, as just that a supernatural occurrence. Peter
Quint had a tie to Bly. He was the valet and as alluded to by Mrs Grose in the early chapter he liked
his girls nice and young. He would defiantly continue the corruption of the children. Or this could be a
fragment of the governess s reality in two ways. Firstly to construct some sort of evil to protect her
charges from, so she could assume the role of saviour and hero to impress her employer or it could be
because the governess was fantasising about seeing someone around the grounds , hopefully her
employer , her desire for a master makes us question the authenticity of this apparition. Her mind may
have fabricated him as a desire of sexual desire. The governess claims about the ghost become more
and more subjective as the novella progresses, she eventually concludes after a few sightings of
explicit description that

Self Destruction In The Black Cat By Edgar Allen Poe
By analyzing The Black Cat by Edgar Allen Poe, we can see that the main character in the story makes
exceptionally perverse choices. The motive for his actions can be found in clues given throughout the
story. We can investigate what happened to the man, and see exactly what caused him to respond in
such a violent manner. To further look into the motives for the characters actions, we must inspect and
evaluate whether it was self destruction that turned him mad, or an effect of outside events.
The narrator acts in a way that shows us that he has self destructive tendencies. We can assume this
after we see him kill his cat, and in other parts of the story. He regrets killing his cat almost
instantaneously. He says, I experienced a sentiment half of horror, half of remorse, for the crime of
which I had been guilty (Poe 5). He deeply regrets cutting the cats eye out. He decided to kill the cat
because he was so emotionally guilty. He tells us, One night, returning home, much intoxicated, from
one of my haunts about town. (Poe 5). He was drunk, and this means that alcohol played an essential
part in his perverse decisions. The fact that his house burned down the night of the murder is
symbolic. The night of the day that he killed Pluto, he says, The curtains of my bed were in flames.
The whole house was blazing (Poe 6). His house is all of his achievements and worldly wealth, and it
was burned to the ground in flames. It is a direct result of his sin of murdering the innocent cat. It
could be seen as a symbol of his eternal destiny. It is a punishment for killing the cat.
While alcohol is a killer, outside influences could be the main reason for the characters perverse
actions. The character mentions his childhood briefly in the beginning of the story. I view the act as
the climax of inner, suppressed anxieties that are contained in how the narrator goes back to when he
was a young boy. His friends made fun of him for being so nice and docile. My tenderness of heart
was even so conspicuous as to make me the jest of my companions (Poe 3). His friends seem to have
made fun of him because he was a good person. He spent most of his time with his animals. His time
he spent could have been because his

The Impact of Writing
Exactly how important is writing in today s society? Can we go through college without
writing skills? More important, how do writing skills will affect our lives professionally? When
we think of a writer, a novelist or a journalist come to our minds, although those are two of the
most popular career choices, there are many paths to a writing career. But how much does
learning how to write essays can help us develop different skills and how much does that affect
our relationship with others? Our history, all we know about the human kind, all living things,
our world and the universe, everything can be found in books or online. But none of this could be

Much of the research on writing and happiness deals with expressive writing or jotting
down what you think and how you feel, expressive writing has also been linked to improved
mood, well being, and reduced stress levels for those who do it regularly, says Adam Grant.
Writing your thoughts, feelings, concerns and plans for the future can help you relief stress, be
more organized and keep goals that can be accomplished in a near or far future. Keeping a
journal of your daily life can also help you become a better writer as you begin to develop much
fluent ideas and it becomes easier to put down in words your thoughts.
Writing is simultaneously a physical activity and a cognitive activity. Empirical research
overwhelmingly shows that we learn and synthesize new information and connections during the
actual act of writing, no matter how much we may think we already know what we want to say
when we actually sit down to write. Too often though we are taught, wrongly, that writing is
only a physical act, the mere transcription of ideas already hatched and thought through. Such a
mental model could not possibly be further from the cognitive truth. And this mistaken

The Sonnets Of Shakespeare s Sonnets
There are 154 sonnets Shakespeare wrote, though it is popularly theorized that he himself did not
publish them; they were published by a man named Thomas Thorpe, who is said to have stolen the
sonnets. This explains the unrefined lines found in several of the sonnets. More evidence for this
theory stems from the idea that Shakespeare s heterosexuality had to be proven by publishing the
sonnets and claiming that each one about romance was written for or about women. It is not known
what Shakespeare s true sexuality was, though in his time being homosexual was viewed as a grave
sin and would have wiped Shakespeare s name from fame. Ernest Sutherland Bates says in his

Many of the sonnets are romantic, with more than half appearing to be written about a romance with a
young man, and the rest are written about a woman referred to often as the Dark Lady. This paper will
be concerned with Sonnet 7.
Shakespeare s Sonnet 7 strays from the main theme of love and romance, as it is mainly about youth
turning into old age. The first four are as follows: Lo! in the orient when the gracious light / Lifts up
his burning head, each under eye / Doth homage to his new appearing sight / Serving with looks his
sacred majesty. Already the theme of youth fleeing into old age can be seen; the gracious light refers
to the sun, which rises in the east and sets in the west. The orient refers to the East, and so this line
depicts someone young. This is reinforced by the phrase lifts up his burning head in the second line, as
it characterizes the sun as just rising up over the horizon, burning bright and full of energy for the day
ahead. In the third line, his new appearing sight, also reinforces this imagery of the sun rising each
day. The final line in this rhyme pattern implies that others look at the young man with respect, as
shown by the words his sacred majesty. There has always been a respect for the willpower and
determination of young people, and in writing, art, and theatre the young are often

Identify the computer operating and networking systems used in the company
We are using windows 7 and 8 on all PC for our company, 2003 network servers. It comes a time for
change and IPv6 is it, so we have to be prepared for it. Our company has about 100 personnel who

need to quickly change to the latest version, from IPv4 to IPv6 in order to keep the network and

have been testing it, it is installed on the unit, and enabled by default, but most people have not

The pros and cons of IPv6 over the use of IPv4 IPv6 are better security, since the security for IPSEC is

The Extrapyramidal tract consists of tracts that descend directly into the spinal chord, and are
important for motor movement. This system is responsible for refining and regulating the motor
commands. This makes the processes of Laila s speech and walking more controlled and smooth. On a
side note from Laila s speech, there are subsystems within the Extrapyramidal tract. The first is the
Tectospinal tract, which is responsible for orienting the head/eye movements to sudden stimuli. This
allows Laila to turn her eyes and walk to her friends in response to the outside stimuli. Vestibulospinal
tract is located in the pons and medulla to the brainstem. It helps to control Laila s balance in order to
walk. The Reticulospinal tract plays an important part in controlling autonomic functions. Rubrospinal
tract is responsible for skeletal muscle control and is important in regulating muscle tone for posture.
The Pyramidal Tract is the second major pathway for motor planning and execution for Laila s speech.
This tract comes from pyramidal cells of the primary motor cortex and controls voluntary movement
of the skeletal muscles. Meaning, this system controls gross motor movement instead of fine motor
movement. This also has three subsystems within. The corticonuclear tract contains fibers of the

The Tiger and The Lamb were poems by William Blake, a poet who lived in the 18th century. In this

Blake s background relates on the poems he wrote, and many of his works reflected his early home

believe it was a children s poem, a hopscotch poem or playground chant, until you remember that
Blake could not have known these as he did not attend school. The reader would think this because of
the simple vocabulary, and also if you notice, the poem uses soft alliteration little lamb this gave a
much softer feel to the poem, obviously putting one in mind of children and their innocence.
Blake was a very holy and pious person. He often out biblical discourse into many of his poems, as I
have stated before. I found some plain biblical tones in The Lamb the next quotation shows this point.
He is meek, and he is mild . . . became a little child .
This quotation is from the New Testament, where God was forgiving, whereas in the Old Testament
God was believed to punish people for their sins i.e. Noah and the Ark, in which God drowns the
entire human race apart from Noah and his family. The fact that there is biblical content in The Lamb
is inspiring and was maybe meant to give a sense of hope. The lack of biblical discussion in The Tiger
gives the reader a sense of lack if reprieve, lack of hope and a sense of the
prison of the world and all

Proposed Education Policy
Bernie Sander s Proposed Education Policy is a Good Idea
In America, college tuition cost have skyrocketed since the middle 20th century,
rising by 1,120 percent between 1978 and 2012, ( Resnikoff). Tution at selective private colleges and
universities has risen by two or three percent annually, which is more than the rate of inflation says
Ronald Ehrenberg the Irving M. Ives Professor of Industrial and Labor Relations and Economics at
Cornell University, director of the Cornell Higher Education Research Institute, and co director of
Cornell s Institute for Labor Market Policies. People are concerned about the increasing cost of
tuition. Many people can not go to college because it is too expensive, others leave with mountains of

A free higher education would allow graduating students to start their lives , instead of being held
back by debt. On average, students who graduated in 2015 have a debt of about $35,051 person, and
these numbers are going to continue to rise unless something is done (Resnikoff). Most students that
just graduated from college do not start out at a high paying job, so it will take them years to pay off
their student loans. Interest rates on student loans are higher than on auto loans. It makes no sense that
millions of college graduates are forced to pay interest rates of five to seven percent or more for
decades (Sanders). This is counter productive to our country because students go to college so they
can make more money and live lives that many people without a college education cannot afford to
live. Students cannot begin their lives if they are held back by the burden of student loans. If elected
president Sanders will prevent the federal government from profiteering on the backs of college
students and use [ government] money instead to significantly lower student loan interest rates
(Sanders). The Sanders plan is beneficial to all young Americans who dream of going to college, but
cannot because of its cost. The lowering of loan prices would be one step closer to providing free
education to all Americans. The

Islam and Blasphemy
Blasphemy in Islam is any irreverent behaviour towards holy personages, religious artifacts, customs,
and beliefs.
Blasphemers
Islamic legal authorities agree that a blasphemer can be Muslim or non Muslim. To be convicted of
blasphemy, an individual must be an adult, of sound mind, and not under duress. Some jurisdictions
do not punish individuals who commit blasphemy accidentally. The Maliki School of Jurisprudence
permits the exoneration of accused individuals who are converts to Islam.

A blasphemer, who violates the right of God can seek forgiveness through repentance.
The Holy Quran speaks of punishment in relation only to those who make war and mischief in
opposition to Almighty God and Holy Prophet (PBUH):
The punishment of those who wage war against Almighty God and His Messenger, and strive with
might and main for mischief through the land is: execution, or crucifixion, or the cutting off of hands
and feet from opposite sides, or exile from the land: that is their disgrace in this world, and a heavy
punishment is theirs in the Hereafter (Surah Maida: 33)
Blasphemy against Holy Prophet (PBUH)
A blasphemer, who violates the right of Man must seek forgiveness from the person insulted. In the
case of an insult to Holy Prophet (PBUH), the Muslim community is considered to be under an
obligation to avenge the insult because the possibility of forgiveness expired upon the death of Holy
Prophet (PBUH).
In March 2009, Pakistan presented a resolution to the United Nations Human Rights Council in
Geneva which calls upon the world to formulate laws against the defamation of religion.

Thre Views of Social Darwinism
The concept of Social Darwinism was a widely accepted theory in the nineteenth century. Various
intellectual, and political figures from each side of the political spectrum grasped the theory and
interpreted it in various ways. In this paper, we will discuss three different nineteenth century thinkers
and their conception of Social Darwinism. The conservative, Heinrich von Treitschke, and liberal
Herbert Spencer both gave arguments on the usefulness of competition between people on a global
scale. The anarchist, Peter Kropotkin, refuted the belief of constant competition among members of
the same species and emphasized mutual aid. Heinrich von Treitschke s defense of Social Darwinism
was a direct result of his view on the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To Treitschke, society would only have a place for Jews if they decided to convert to Christianity and
assimilate to the culture of their respective European nation implying that the Christian European was
superior to that of the Jew. English liberal Herbert Spencer gave his own defense of Social Darwinism
and conflict between human beings. Spencer believed that competition between animals helped
advance their spieces to a higher level over a long period of time; he extended this argument to
humans and warfare. Much like Treitschke, Spencer argued that warfare and competition between
humans had exemplified the ability to root out the weak from the earth. The world to Spencer was a
continual struggle between the strong and intelligent, to that of the weak and feeble minded resulting a
continual progression of intellect and honing of the senses. According to Spencer, if societies were not
able to adapt to compete, they would cease to exist. Spencer believed that wars of primitive man were
necessary because they were instrumental in developing the structure of their growing societies. As a
result of war, tribes were encouraged to confederate, confederations gave way to small nations, and
large nations progressed into large advanced

The idea of Enlightenment filtered its way into society and was became institutionalized. During this period, European traditions also came under the microscope and were challenged by many scholars and philosophers. Economical, social and political attitudes were studied and began to move away from negativity. People then focused on the positives of life and human nature. In Rabbit Run, John Updike uses Janice and Rabbit to portray depression s manipulative way of destroying a person. Through many articles, it is explained how the effects of depression cause a downwards spiral of self destruction. Many authors have explored the effects of depression and linked it alcohol abuse as well. This can be easily compared to Janice s alcohol consumption throughout the book and how it lead her to her downfall and eventual murder of her daughter as well as Rabbit s indecisive mind. As Rabbit runs from Janice in an attempt to chase his youth, he is just as numb as his wife. Janice drinks her pain away. However, this does not only affect Janice, but her whole family. Her kids are dragged into this situation as well. As one character struggles through depression and all that results from it, the rest of her family is dragged through it with her. In these lines of the Scripture, Adam is presented with a task to make sense out of the complex world of nature by simplifying it in a way that makes it easier for him to comprehend its complexity and interrelationships. The universality and integrated nature of the universe is expressed in these lines in that the LORD GOD does not name the creatures or explain any relationship between them. HE leaves that up to Adam to interpret the world around him and to organize it according to his own reasoning and understanding. In these lines, as he is naming the creatures presented before him, he follows a line of classification that groups animals with similar features together into a class. The lines of the Scripture convey the idea that Adam observed livestock as creatures that could be domesticated and made use of to make life easier for man and to make the Earth habitable and comfortable for him. He observed the tame nature of these creatures and classified them separately. Similarly, he observed the wild and savage nature of the wild animals and realized that these posed a danger because of their sharp claws, powerful bodies and sharp teeth. The state of being regarded with honor or esteem. 3. Willingness to show consideration or appreciation. In the first Five Year Plan, it focused on agriculture. Before the plan, the farmers and the workers essentially worked on their own farms that were run by their families, allowing them to have the freedom to do as they pleased, but with Socialism on the brink everything changed. Socialism includes the government in charge of everything, meaning that collective farming was the new thing. With that farmers and the peasants were taken away from the farm and then everyone was combined into what they called a collective farm. This meant that everyone on that farm had to work together to get the outcome that they wanted. People didn t have the choice of having their farm put into a collective farm. When speaking about women in work, it is important to talk about the typical jobs women take on that are sometimes low in status. First off, women are more likely to be employed in unpaid care work and housework. They take these jobs because of the time availability, relative resource perspectives, and the symbolic representation of their gender. When women take on paid jobs, it ends up being balanced with unpaid work because of maternity leaves. Firstly and most obviously, as the unknown narrator made clear that this was a ghost story, as just that a supernatural occurrence. Peter Quint had a tie to Bly. • 37. Self Destruction In The Black Cat By Edgar Allen Poe By analyzing The Black Cat by Edgar Allen Poe, we can see that the main character in the story makes exceptionally perverse choices. The motive for his actions can be found in clues given throughout the story. We can investigate what happened to the man, and see exactly what caused him to respond in such a violent manner. To further look into the motives for the characters actions, we must inspect and evaluate whether it was self destruction that turned him mad, or an effect of outside events. The narrator acts in a way that shows us that he has self destructive tendencies. We can assume this after we see him kill his cat, and in other parts of the story. He regrets killing his cat almost instantaneously. He says, I experienced a sentiment half of horror, half of remorse, for the crime of which I had been guilty (Poe 5). He deeply regrets cutting the cats eye out. He decided to kill the cat because he was so emotionally guilty. He tells us, One night, returning home, much intoxicated, from one of my haunts about town. (Poe 5). He was drunk, and this means that alcohol played an essential part in his perverse decisions. The fact that his house burned down the night of the murder is symbolic. The night of the day that he killed Pluto, he says, The curtains of my bed were in flames. The whole house was blazing (Poe 6). His house is all of his achievements and worldly wealth, and it was burned to the ground in flames. It is a direct result of his sin of murdering the innocent cat. It could be seen as a symbol of his eternal destiny. It is a punishment for killing the cat. While alcohol is a killer, outside influences could be the main reason for the characters perverse actions. The character mentions his childhood briefly in the beginning of the story. I view the act as the climax of inner, suppressed anxieties that are contained in how the narrator goes back to when he was a young boy. His friends made fun of him for being so nice and docile. My tenderness of heart was even so conspicuous as to make me the jest of my companions (Poe 3). His friends seem to have made fun of him because he was a good person. The first four are as follows: Lo! in the orient when the gracious light / Lifts up his burning head, each under eye / Doth homage to his new appearing sight / Serving with looks his sacred majesty. Already the theme of youth fleeing into old age can be seen; the gracious light refers to the sun, which rises in the east and sets in the west. In the third line, his new appearing sight, also reinforces this imagery of the sun rising each day. The reader would think this because of the simple vocabulary, and also if you notice, the poem uses soft alliteration little lamb this gave a much softer feel to the poem, obviously putting one in mind of children and their innocence. Blake was a very holy and pious person. He often out biblical discourse into many of his poems, as I have stated before. Students cannot begin their lives if they are held back by the burden of student loans. If elected president Sanders will prevent the federal government from profiteering on the backs of college students and use [ government] money instead to significantly lower student loan interest rates (Sanders). English liberal Herbert Spencer gave his own defense of Social Darwinism and conflict between human beings. Spencer believed that competition between animals helped advance their spieces to a higher level over a long period of time; he extended this argument to humans and warfare.
