Analysis on Silver Linings Playbook
The film I chose to analyze is Silver Linings Playbook because I was interested in the story when I
read the synopsis of the movie. I thought that this would be a simple movie where the main characters
would help each other because they had something in common. Reading the synopsis, I also thought
that Pat would be back together with his wife, but at the end he found another love. In the next
paragraphs I will show my knowledge on what I have learned this semester. On my analysis of Silver
Linings, I will give examples that has the concept of language, nonverbal communication, listening,
emotions, conflict, and close relationships.
The first concept is language (a system comprised of vocabulary and rules of grammar that allows us
to engage in verbal communication, Ch. 4, pg 72). The whole movie it was in English, so everyone
understood each other. When watching, everyone understood what each other were saying but
sometimes they don t because they are using words that the other side wouldn t understand. There was
this scene where Pat and Tiffany were talking about what medication they use to have during dinner.
The wife and husband who invited them didn t really look at their perspective in a deeper level. People

Abstract Peroxidase is a turnip enzyme; it is used in the oxidation of hydrogen peroxide to lower
activation energy, speeding up the reaction. The activity of peroxidase is highly dependent on its
environment and most importantly the pH level. Peroxidase has been the focus of many recent studies
and is believed to possibly reduce swelling among other things. We conducted an experiment testing
the effect different levels of pH had on the reaction rate of peroxidase. In the experiment we created
different solutions all containing hydrogen peroxide, peroxidase, and guaiacol. However each cuvette

In the blank cuvettes, the 2 mL of pH levels 2,5,7, and 10 were added first, followed by the 1mL of
peroxidase. However our experimental cuvettes contained both hydrogen peroxide and guaiacol.
Before the cuvettes were placed in the spectrophotometer we added 0.1 mL of H202, followed by 0.02
mL of guaiacol these two substances were added last immediately before they were placed in the
spectrophotometer. Para film was placed over the cuvette opening, and the assay solution was shaken
and placed into the spectrophotometer where its saturation level was then tested. We recorded the
saturation level of the solution every 15 seconds for 3 minutes. This process was repeated two times
for each pH level for a total of two trials.
Results
Figure one depicts the reaction rate of peroxidase enzyme over time. The y axis shows the absorbance
of the assay solutions, and the x axis depicts time it took for the reaction to occur in seconds.
Figure 2 is a representation of the average saturation of each cuvette at a specific point time as a
function. The y axis shows the specific saturation points from figure 1, and the x axis provides the
different levels of pH. The pH scale provided on the x axis ranges from 0 to 14, 0 being the most
acidic and 14 being the most basic. The point chosen from figure 1 was the saturation levels of each

After researching newspaper articles covering the events of Kristallnacht, one question lingered: How
did black newspapers continue to cover the Holocaust? After finding limited articles pertaining to the
events of Kristallnacht, I was curious to see if more coverage would be dedicated to the events that
came after. I specifically wanted to look into African American newspapers of the day in order to see
how the African American community reacted to the atrocities. During this time period many African
Americans were facing persecution at home, so I figured they would approach new of the Holocaust

These questions can help me understand how prioritized news of the Holocaust was in the black
newspapers. Another driving question I had was how did the newspapers approach each story. Did
they approach it as a simple news piece only displaying the facts or did they dedicate space to give
their opinions on the matter? If they gave their opinions, we could see how African American
journalists thought about the events, and more importantly, how they wanted others in their
community to feel about these events. Lastly I wanted to know how these newspapers related these
stories to the persecution they faced in America. Did they use this opportunity to shed light on their
own suffering? Did they use their own suffering to offer empathy to European Jews? Did they use
their own suffering to discredit the suffering the European Jews? Answering these questions will be

The term stream of consciousness as applied in literary criticism to designate a particular mode of
prose narrative was first coined by philosopher William James in his book Principles of Psychology
