Symbolism In Stephen King s Movie It
Due to how interested I am with this captivating film, I once again decided to research a review on the
movie IT directed by Andy Muschiettie. Specifically looking for an article discussing symbolism I
stumbled upon Stephen King s It is the rare monster movie with too much monster written by Tahsa
Robinson. Collectively, the passage discusses many elements of symbols in the film, but ultimately
leads back to how the title monster makes appearance too often (Robinson). However, I disagree with
this statement because the creature is presented to remind the audience that It is always there;
terrorizing its prey before consumption as one would season a piece of meat before a meal. This
directing style of presenting the monster in the beginning and often throughout is different from that
of other movie that keep the monster hidden to build suspense and fear. Having It on screen in
multiple scenes allows terror to build for the victims or, in the case of the film, for the victims to
develop bravery in the face of fear. I do agree with the author s analysis on the aspects of the film and
the symbols presented to the audience. In particular, I whole heartedly agree with what she states
about one of the adolescent characters: ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Her bloody encounter with Pennywise closely recalls images in two other famous King screen
adaptations, Stanley Kubrick s The Shining and Brian De Palma s Carrie. It s a primal sequence, scary
on its face, but also resonant with personal meaning for Beverly. It shows how It is meant to function,
as a window into individual psyches, and into a monster that explores and exploits them

Pros And Cons Of Fluoride In Public Water
The measured add on of fluoride to the public water supply to decrease tooth decay is water
fluoridation. Depending on where the water is coming from, most water supplies has a naturally
happening fluoride concentration, but is generally low and does not help. To help, fluoride is being
added into public water at a continuous concentration to reach that naturally occurring limit and no
more. There are advantages to fluoride being added to the public water, but there are also controversial
disadvantages.
American Dental Association (ADA) has written and article on 5 Reasons Why Fluoride in Water is
Good for Communities (ADA, 2017.). The ADA then proceeds to go into depth on each of these five
topics, as I will summarize in my own words. First, fluoride prevents tooth decay by being present in

One of the main disagreement is fluoridation takes away the public s choice. Rodriguez reportedly
said it is a violation of his individual rights by the government because the process forces people to
consume a substance they may not know is present or that they would rather avoid (Advocate, V.
2015). There is also a controversial debate if it would be cheaper for the cities and communities to
discontinue the fluoridation program. Then, Teek Miller, a retired science and math teacher wrote a
letter to her city council and stated that she thinks brushing teeth with fluoride is beneficial, but
swallowing the chemical is not. Miller goes on to explain how fluoride is damaging to the bones and
brain, when swallowing (Advocate, V. 2015). Public health officials have been looking into the health
considerations when digesting fluoride, because in large amounts, fluoride is considered poison, but
those levels cannot be reached by drinking just fluoridated

Key Features Of Using Java
Create a 3 5 page report covering the role of Java in industry today compared to C# and Objective C.
Your report should cover:
What are the advantages and disadvantages of Java as compared to the other two?
Your report should include a use case describing the career path of a Java developer in the IT industry.
What can one expect to be doing as an entry level Java developer? What can one expect to be doing as
a senior level Java developer? What are the expectations in the journey between those two positions?
Java is an object oriented programming language and is considered as global standard for developing

developing any other applications on Java platform and these applications are dynamic in nature.
C# and Java offer common syntax and were developed to reduce the coding bugs that are present in C

Describe The Difference Between First And Second-Degree Burns
Burns are classified by the depth of the skin affected; There are two categories of burns partial
thickness burns, first and second degree burns, and full thickness burns, third degree burns. First
degree burns can be obtained through sunburns or brief exposer to very hot or cold objects and are the
least serious with only damage to the epidermis or top layer of the skin. You can identify first degree
burns through red skin with possible slight swelling and pain. Since these burns are not very serious
medical attention is not usually needed but homecare options include soaking the affected area in cool
water these burns have a recovery time of about a week. Second degree burns can be obtained by
severe sunburns, severe scalding, touching a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This loss of water affects homeostasis and until skin is repaired and the patient is on their way to
recovery they may not have the ability to properly maintain their water levels to remain in a
homeostatic state. This results in the need for fluids to be given to the patient through an IV at the
same rate the patient is losing fluid to avoid both death and shock. The amount of fluid being lost can
be calculated using the Rule of Nines and the patients body weight. While burns may not spread to
others it may spread to affect more than just the integumentary system; severe burns may reach bone
infecting the skeletal system, severe burns damage or destroy nerve endings causing an effect on the
nervous system, the inability to retain fluids in severe burn patients causes dehydration affecting the
urinary system.

The song that I chose compare is Part of Your World from The Little Mermaid, which was originally
performed by Jodi Benson. The cover that I am comparing the original to is by Carly Rae Jepsen. The
song was written and composed by Alan Menken and Howard Ashman. It is a slow ballad with a
Broadway Style. Part of Your World is in simple quadruple meter, most likely to have 4/4 as a time
signature, frequently referred to as common time.As Jodi Benson sings this song, you can hear the
desperation and the longing to be on land and with Prince Eric. The main instruments used are strings,
such ah the Violin and Harp, also the Piano. The cover performed by Carly Rae Jepsen has more of a
Pop music sound, which is mainly due to a brighter timbre

How Did The Ku Klux Klan Affect Our Society
Since 1865, the Ku Klux Klan has been responsible for America s many atrocities in history. Driven
by hatred and resentment, the Klan terrorized minorities of all kinds in this country for more than a
century. Extending into almost every southern state by 1870, it became a vehicle for white southern
resistance to the Republican Party s Reconstruction era policies. This single violent group was
responsible for thousands of deaths, and would help to weaken the political power of Southern blacks
and Republicans. On December 24, 1865, during the reconstruction of the South after the Civil War,
six Confederate veterans from Pulaski, Tennessee created the infamous Ku Klux Klan. Confederate
General Nathan Bedford Forrest became Grand Wizard of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Simmons, in 1915, on Stone Mountain, Georgia. This new version of the Klan focused mainly on new
areas such as anti Catholicism and anti immigration and they supported prohibition. It stressed
fundamentalism in religion. A pamphlet published in Atlanta by Simmons in 1917, brought into the
light the Klan s goals as to shield the sanctity of the home and the chastity of womanhood; to maintain
white supremacy; to teach and faithfully inculcate a high spiritual philosophy through an exalted
ritualism; and by a practical devotedness to conserve, protect and maintain the distinctive institutions,
rights, privileges, principles and ideals of a pure Americanism. (McWhirter, Cameron 65) The new
founder of the Klan recruited many new followers by joining fraternal organizations. The new
members paid initiation fees and received Ku Klux Klan costumes in return. The Klan presented itself
as a fraternal, activist and ardently patriotic organization. In 1922, 1924, and1926 the Klan elected
many state officials and a number of Congressmen even though they professed themselves
nonpolitical. The organization took its symbol, a burning cross, and held rallies, parades, and marches
around the country (History 2). The burning cross was simply a symbol of intimidation. Its lighting
during meetings was often accompanied by prayer and singing of hymns. At its peak in the 1920 s,
Klan membership exceeded four million people nationwide. Members were drawn from all sectors of
society, and many civic leaders, politicians, and law enforcement officials either belonged or deferred
to the Klan. The growing violence from the Klan caused wide resentment, and by 1922 a number of
anti Klan organizations had formed all over the place. A prominent Protestant minister, Reinhold
Niebuhr spoke out against the Klan and that gained national attention. After that, many opposing
groups started speaking out against the Klan and their violent ways. One

Piaget Observation Paper
The purpose of this paper is to use the habituation technique in young infants to evaluate one
hypothesis derived from Piaget s theory of cognitive development. I will compare 5 months old s in a
task that involves possible and impossible outcomes. Piaget s theory specifies the cognitive
competencies of children of this age. 1a. During the sensorimotor stage children experience the world
around them differently than how older people do, this of course this can be seen by observing the
way in which children gather and process new information that is within their grasp. What the
sensorimotor stage does is bring about the five senses into play, children that are just below the age of
two years would use most of their five senses. These children ... Show more content on

2a. Habituation is the way in which people respond to things are after constant repetition. What this
means is the way in which people respond is the exact same way in which people get over a new hit
single, or trend. After constant simulating repetition of the response of a person to said thing would
decrease, meaning they pay less mind to what is being shown, told or given. Dishabituation is
basically the opposite of habituation in the sense that instead of unable to not have a decrease in
response to a stimulation that repeats, it is when after the person has undergone habituation he/she
would come to go back to the way they were. What this means is that if a person goes through
habituation, they would revert back as if they had never gone through habituation in the first place,
and in turn would come to have the same response that they had undergone when they were first
stimulated by whatever they were shown or given. Habituation helps researchers study the cognitive
process in infants by allowing them to monitor and measure exactly at what age is an infant able to
thoroughly process information and how fast is said infant able to learn it. Which in turn allows these
researchers to know exactly how the child would learn to respond after constant stimulation. Take into
mind for instance a 5 month old child, the child would be playing peek a boo with his/her mother, at
first glance the

Transgender Equality In Sports
How does one define gender? Is it in terms of sex or is a distinct term with separate qualities and
qualifications? In the past century, sports have wrestled with these questions on how to qualify and
quantify gender. By addressing these issues, whether intentional or not, the sports world has certainly
broken down some barriers to transgender equality. Nevertheless, there is certainly more work to do to
further progress transgender equality in sports and arguably it is the moral obligation of the sports
world to pursue such equality. Ultimately, transgender people should have the right to pursue
competitive careers that match their gender identity. Before addressing the issue of transgender
equality in sports one must first understand what ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The argument centers around the idea that female transgender athletes may have unfair advantages
over their competitors due to their strength or height that is a byproduct of testosterone (Time, 2015).
This proposal has multiple flaws. First, there is the misconception that female transsexual athletes
keep the physical strength of their previously male body, but this claim is not supported by medical
facts (Krane Barak, 2012). Specifically, studies have shown that after one year a transitioning
transsexuals testosterone levels drop to be consistent with those of a cisgender female athlete, their
muscle mass decreases, their body fat redistributed to match their identity, [and] bone density is
decreased (Krane Barak, 2012). Consequently, researchers have concluded that female transsexuals
can compete in sports without having an inherent physiological advantage (Krane Barak, 2012). Now,
some may argue that based on this evidence only transsexual athletes should be allowed to compete,
which brings up my second point: the pervasive idea that male athletes are inherently superior to
female athletes. Not only is such an idea sexist in nature, it is also discriminatory. In general,
transgender males do not tend to face as much opposition to allow them to play competitively (Time,
2015). This difference in

My Personal Philosophy Of Innovation
Nursing Innovation and Leadership: A Personal Philosophy To embrace the person that you are, in a
time and place where everyone seems to be telling you that you should be everything but the person
that you are, is a daunting but worthwhile challenge. I believe that it is in the acceptance of our true
selves, imperfections and all, that we gain the ability to view others through a lens colored with
compassion and acceptance. It is then that we can become a leader who is self aware and emotionally
competent.
Personal Philosophy of Innovation My personal philosophy of innovation encompasses many ideas. It
is not only thinking outside of the box, but questioning why the box is even necessary. It is about
creating opportunity out of disappointment, being open to different, and unafraid of being vulnerable.
It is about breathing, living, and embodying the change that you want to see in the world and
exploring new paths in achieving that change. Innovation is being courageously defiant in the face of
the universe shouting You can t and replying with a resounding Watch me .
Personal Definition of Innovation I believe that innovation is the process of examining a new and
different method that cause one internally and/or spiritually look at something as you have never seen
it before, and the creation of a new meaning to the way that we relate to and interact with people, the
environment, health, and nursing.

Racial Hygiene And The Victims Of Medical Experiments
Each year, about 2.7 million shelter animals are euthanized, simply because they have nowhere to call
home . We humans seem to think we can determine which lives are worthy, or unworthy, of life.
Similarly, Hitler believed he had the right to determine which lives were worthy of living. During the
Holocaust, it is estimated that about 6 million Jews were euthanized because he deemed them as
undeserving of life. Included within that estimation are the victims of medical experiments, which
physicians imposed on them without consent. People in positions of power determined who were
worthy of continuing to live, with what we now consider basic human rights, and those unworthy were
euthanized or used in medical experimentation. By simply understanding the expansive amount of
pain and suffering these unworthy individuals went through, you will understand why it is imperative
that we teach this dark point in human history and make sure it is never repeated.
In the early twentieth century, a popular idea known as racial hygiene played a prominent role in
creating a division between races. The German government created a set of policies that dictated
which individuals were worthy and unworthy of reproducing, in the hopes of obtaining more desirable
qualities, based on these ideas. In 1933, the German government started a series of forced
sterilizations, without consent. Robert Jay Lifton writes that a group of individuals deemed
hereditarily sick were the main targets.

Norma Rae and Labor Issues

abusive. In the summer of 1978, a union organizer from New York came to this small town and
approached the employees at the cotton factory to start a union. The union organizer, the mill workers
and the management of the factory had very different perspectives as to the ramifications of starting a

The mill workers felt that they simply did not have any other options and feared the punitive steps
management would take if they unionized. Indeed, this appeared to be the case. When several
employees expressed a tentative interest in the union, management reduced their work days, and,
consequently, their pay. The mill s management used many other scare tactics to try and persuade
employees to reject the union. Opinion turned when working conditions directly contributed to the
death of an employee. This employee had not felt well and requested some time to rest. The supervisor
rejected his request and the employee subsequently died at his workplace. Following this incident,
which clearly demonstrated the poor condition of their employment, many employees began to
express an interest in the union. Until that point the workers did not feel that they had a chance of
making a difference. The lack of education and management intimidation had their desired effect until
they realized that unionization was their only opportunity for a better work environment. They took
their chances and worked hard to unionize. PERSPECTIVE OF MANAGEMENT The mill s owners
and managers had little impetus to change the way in which they had always conducted business and
treated employees. With limited employment options in the area, the majority of the people who lived
in the town were mill employees. This was

Photogrammetry is the art and science of deriving accurate metric and descriptive information from
analog and digital images (Habib et al., 2006; Habib Ghanma Al Ruzouq Kim a; Ayman Paper A.F.
Habib, K.I. Bang, M. Aldelgawy). Wolf, 1983 defined the photogrammetry as the art, science and
technology of obtaining reliable information about physical objects and environment through the
process of recording, measuring and interpreting photographic images and patterns of electromagnetic
radiant imagery and other phenomena. It is obviously stated, in the definition, that photogrammetry
can be used 3D model of real objects for many areas of discipline such as geological and geotechnical
engineering, archeology, architecture, biomedical engineering, civil engineering, and environmental
science. Photogrammetry is non intrusive, cost effective, is ideal for recording data of a complex
nature, has high level of achievable accuracy, uses digital data which results in total flexibility across a
multitude of platforms, plus images may be catalog and compared over time. The 3D data from
imagery reconstructed through a photogrammetric triangulation (bundle adjustment) technique using
converging overlapping images from different viewpoints around the area of interest.
Photogrammetry can be divided into two categories: aerial and close range (terrestrial)
photogrammetry. Aerial photogrammetry

What Ponce is really looking for, is an islands that will become part of what he hopes will be a
profitable new governorship.
Ponce de León set sail in March 1513 with three ships. According to early historians, on April 7, he
anchored off the eastern coast of Florida near present day St. Augustine, and came ashore a day later,
choosing the name La Florida in part because it was the Easter season (Pascua Florida in Spanish).
Juan Ponce de León and his crew became the first recorded Europeans to set eyes on Florida. Legend
holds that they made this discovery while searching for the Fountain of Youth, To this day, tens of
thousands of visitors come every year to sample the sulfur smelling well water. I visited that spring in
the winter of 1948. If it is to keep you young, it didn t work for me. It doesn t taste good either.
In 1521 Ponce de León organized a colonizing expedition on two ships. It consisted of some 200 men,

The Importance Of Life In Ayn Rand s Anthem
Anthem depicts a world of the future, a collectivist dictatorship in which there is no individualism and
people are grouped together and given the same name to unify the group and strip away individualism.
The future as depicted in the novel
Anthem (1938) by Ayn Rand is an insight into what she came from in Russia, where communism and
Stalinism a form of communism under the rule of Joseph Stalin, was the main form of government in
Russia where all people get the same amount of everything. There are multiple connections between
the way of life where Ayn Rand came from and the way of life in her story Anthem. Ayn Rand gave an
example of how life was in Russia by talking through the story and reflecting her experience

Hypnosis In Psychology Essay
Hypnosis in Psychology
Throughout the history of this country, hypnosis has been dismissed as a form of gimmickry. Contrary
to this, for centuries numerous cultures have used hypnosis as a means of mental and spiritual healing.
Hypnosis is defined as an induced trance like state in which one is highly susceptible to suggestions,
or commands. There are three commonly known methods of hypnosis.
Two of which, the authoritarian and standardized approaches, are generally considered non beneficial
towards the subject. Meanwhile the utilization approach, primarily developed by Dr. Milton H.
Erickson, is the most widely used amongst psychologists today. The authoritarian approach focuses
primarily on the power of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The utilization approach assumes that each person is unique in terms of strategies used to create
his/her trance and, consequently the hypnotist s effectiveness depends upon how well he/she is able to
adapt his/her basic strategies to those of a given subject. Thus standardized methods are not used. The
approach further assumes that unconscious processes can operate in an intelligent and creative fashion
and that people have stored in their unconscious all the resources necessary to attain this quot;trance
quot;.
The question thus becomes: How does the hypnotist bring the subject under trance? Instead of
standardized techniques, he/she has to use general principles to guide his/her efforts. There are three
defined parts of the utilization approach: 1) accept and utilize the clients reality, 2) pace and lead the
subject s behavior and 3) interpret quot;resistance quot; as lack of pacing.
The first principle accept and utilize was stressed again and again by Erickson and is the essential
theme of Erickson and Rossi sHypnotherapy
(1979). Briefly stated, accepting means assuming and communicating to the subject that quot;what
you re doing at this point in time is exactly what I d like you to be doing. It s fine; it s perfect. quot;
Utilizing means assuming and communicating the attitude that quot;what you re doing right now is
exactly that which will allow you to do X. quot; The process of accepting and utilizing is one

How Does Frost Use Figurative Language In Birches
The poem, Birches written by Robert Frost, depicts author s personal desire to escape the normality of
life through the mirage of climbing a birch tree. With distinctive use of diction, imagery, and
figurative language, Frost manages to indirectly understand his way of perceiving life. His view of the
normality and repetition that exists everyday is hidden within words written.
When seeing Birch trees, bent by the cumbersome snow of the long winter, Frost likes to imagine a
boy s been swinging them (Frost, 3). This is a portrayal of his desire to escape the mundane
characteristics of everyday life, and enjoy himself by imagining the boy riding them down over and
over again (29). Life can be laborious and stressful, and there are always going to be hard
uncertainties that can strain the individual s mind, and using figurative language helps the author show
this by comparing it to a worn branch. Frost shows his internal feelings with, They are ... Show more

a route through the pathless wood . Frost s imagination is what feeds his happiness, it is what
separates the norm with the abnormalities. However, he knows that life is like a play, carefully
constructed and set for a reason; the author acknowledges this, May no fate willfully misunderstand
me / And half grant what I wish and snatch me away / Not to return. Earth s the right place for love
(50 53). At the end of Birches , the author comes to a resolution; that though sometimes life can be

Sociological Analysis Of The Five Social Statuses
The macrosociology method that we are going to be talking about are the five social statuses that are

these social statuses Weber s term of the three P s apply, property which refers to wealth, power which
is getting others to do what you want, and lastly prestige, which is your social status. Status sets refers
to all the statuses or positions you occupy, such as being a mother, student, boyfriend, husband, and so

It is how we present our self in everyday life and the reasons we act the way we do. Reasons that may
affect how we present ourselves are the kind stage we re on, role performance, role conflicts, and role
strain. The difference between role and status is that you occupy a status, but you play a role (Linton
1936). Although statuses are macrosociology based, there is still confusion between roles and statuses.
Goffman believed that there were stages in which we performed our assigned roles such as front stage
and back stage. The front stage is wherever we deliver our lines for example, taking the role of your
occupation. The back stage is a place we can relax, have some privacy, and reflect from the front
stage. For example, being in your bedroom not having to worry about a thing and being able to discuss
what happened on the front stage. This can affect how we present ourselves because when we re in the
front stage we re putting up in act to present our self to whoever our audience is. Whereas in the back
stage we have no one to put on a show for and we can relax and let loose. Role performance is similar
with role conflict because a role performance is a certain interpretation that you give your role. For
example, I can play the role as a good student and turn in all my assignments in on time, score high on

Two of these individuals were James Gross and Mesut Güneş. They initially produced a package
labelled NS. This was followed by NS2 then by NS3, each version an improvement on the package
before. These were virtual applications where the designers sought to model networks in a manner that
best suited available network research, and the authors collective experiences. These packages were
capable of designing a network, and some terminology and components used are common to all
discrete event simulation systems. Unfortunately, there is no standardised set of terms and the naming
can vary in literature making the packages not entirely user friendly; ( the NS3 for example uses
programing labelled C++ and the main networking commands were known by only a few IT
specialists). Packet Tracer Software and Activities The requirement for a user friendly package was
met by the Cisco Lab. The Cisco Packet Tracer is a self paced, visual, interactive teaching and
learning tool developed by Cisco Lab. The relative ease with which this package can be used makes it
ideal for students as well as for professional use. A further benefit is that Packet Tracer provides a

Chaldeans In America
A refugee is generally thought of as an individual who flees their country due to (but not limited to)
racial, religious, or ideological persecution. These people often leave war torn countries where
violence and tyranny strips the very freedoms and opportunities that are the inalienable backbone of
the United States. It is no surprise, then, that immigrants from every stretch of the planet have settled
in America, freely practicing their beliefs and often playing a critical role in the entrepreneurial
development of our capitalist foundation. One such group is the Chaldeans. Hailing from small
villages in the north of Iraq a place historically referred to as Mesopotamia where the ancient
Babylonians once made their home, the Chaldeans are a Catholic group of people who speak Aramaic,
the language of Christ. Throughout the last century, the introduction of Saddam Hussein and the ...

The Bluest Eye Research Paper
The rape of Pecola is a tragic occurrence. In The Bluest Eye, Toni Morrison focuses heavily on the
topic of her rape. Morrison shows how the rape has affected Pecola by creating a powerful and
compelling tale, allowing the reader to connect with Pecola and better empathize with her. Morrison s
stylistic choices and use of powerful language make her story even more commanding and eye
catching and further the reader s understanding of Pecola s misery and their sympathy towards her.
Morrison uses word choice and sentence structure during the scene where Pecola is raped to
emphasize the disturbing nature of the action. Morrison gives the reader a window into Cholly s
thoughts right before he penetrates her. Morrison writes, He wanted to fuck her tenderly (Pp. 162 3).
The juxtaposition of the words fuck and tenderly create a striking and disgusting image that helps to
convey the true horror of the rape. Fuck is related to violence and cruelty while ... Show more content

Cholly treats her like he would dirt, doing anything that he wants to it. By writing that Cholly had
dropped his seeds in his own plot of black dirt , Morrison causes the reader to more fully understand
the power and horror of the rape. This wording is extremely effective in showing how awful the rape
is, because it shows Pecola as being reduced to something as powerless and as meaningless as black
dirt instead of merely stating that she was raped. In addition, by showing how Pecola is objectified and
treated awfully instead of just saying that, Morrison is able to draw more sympathy from the

The Sacrament Of Matrimony In The Catholic Church
A sacrament is a sign of something sacred, so it is a visible form of and invisible grace enacted by God
that has power effect. In the Catholic Church, there are sacraments. There are two public sacraments,
one is matrimony, where we encounter the church and community or society. Although, the dignity of
Matrimony is low compared to the other sacraments it is essential for the church to continue the
apostolic tradition of faith. Marriage is a valid union that has moral and social aspects The Sacrament
of Matrimony signifies the union of Christ and the Church. It gives spouses the grave to love
eachother with the love of which Christ has loved his Church; the grace of the sacrament thus perfects
the human love of the spouses, strengthens their indissoluble unity, and sacrifices them on the way to
eternal life . Because the couple freely give themselves to the other and accept the other completely,
marriage is a conjugal covenant. The sacramentality of marriage must include the grace of God and
unity with Christ. Therefore, there are goods of marriage brought about by God3. These goods include
the gift of marriage which is children, complete fidelity and the bond of unity3. Christ, the eternal
covenant, offered himself to the church as a spouse through his death and resurrection. This
relationship is the foundations of the sacrament of Matrimony, therefore in this paper I will examine
the history, meaning, significance and order of celebration of marriage in the Catholic

Witchcraft And Magic Became A Taboo
The use of witchcraft and magic became a taboo in early modern Europe. Most individuals living in
Europe during the 16th and 17th centuries believed that these witches could connect with a different
realm to influence the world they found themselves in, the natural world. There was no way of
pointing out a witch and so these arbitrary guidelines made by looking at stereotypes that outcasts had,
led them early modern Europe into the witch hunts, where unfair trials meant the lives of innocent
individuals were lost. Through the documents found in The Trial of Tempel Anneke, the use of
witchcraft and other forms of sorcery were sought after to aid in time of need, but the actual practice
of witchcraft and use magic were frowned upon by Christians who linked this practice to Satan and
would culminate with the witch s death after an unfair trial.
For those individuals living in Brunswick during the seventeenth century, it was socially acceptable to
go to witches for help. These witches were seen as unconventional healers, who used herbs as
remedies to treat different ailments. While these remedies were unusual to most, their effectiveness
kept bringing back those who sought a witches services. Even though it was acceptable for individuals
to seek the help of a witch, it was frowned upon for a witch to use magic or any form of sorcery to aid
individuals. The people who turned to witches for help were barely punished, but the witch in question
was severely punished as evidenced by

In spite of his latest crises, my father was still able to find much to be grateful for at Thanksgiving. He
was a master of the Polish art of rationalization, and able to see something bright and special in the
gloomiest circumstances.
Over a few Stegmaier beers on Thanksgiving night, my father joked about his latest predicament, and
found comfort in the words of his former mentor, Eddie Kuharcik who used to say, When life hands
out lemons, make lemonade!
My father spoke freely about Eddie Kuharcik, and his role in starting my father in business. I could
see how my father s taking Curly Kedzierski under his wing was his way of repaying Eddie.
In all the time my father talked about Eddie and the good old days on the Heights, he never once
mentioned my mother. It had been over twenty years since my mother left home, and in all those years
and the many conversations I shared with my father, her name was never mentioned. My father had
mellowed with age, but I doubted if he would ever become liberal minded enough to talk about my
mother again.
The Thanksgiving break was memorable for me, but probably more so for a number of my classmates.
When the second quarter began, no fewer than five students announced they had become engaged
over Thanksgiving. This was a significant number of students insofar as only six students in our class

  • 2. Symbolism In Stephen King s Movie It Due to how interested I am with this captivating film, I once again decided to research a review on the movie IT directed by Andy Muschiettie. Specifically looking for an article discussing symbolism I stumbled upon Stephen King s It is the rare monster movie with too much monster written by Tahsa Robinson. Collectively, the passage discusses many elements of symbols in the film, but ultimately leads back to how the title monster makes appearance too often (Robinson). However, I disagree with this statement because the creature is presented to remind the audience that It is always there; terrorizing its prey before consumption as one would season a piece of meat before a meal. This directing style of presenting the monster in the beginning and often throughout is different from that of other movie that keep the monster hidden to build suspense and fear. Having It on screen in multiple scenes allows terror to build for the victims or, in the case of the film, for the victims to develop bravery in the face of fear. I do agree with the author s analysis on the aspects of the film and the symbols presented to the audience. In particular, I whole heartedly agree with what she states about one of the adolescent characters: ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 3. Pros And Cons Of Fluoride In Public Water The measured add on of fluoride to the public water supply to decrease tooth decay is water fluoridation. Depending on where the water is coming from, most water supplies has a naturally happening fluoride concentration, but is generally low and does not help. To help, fluoride is being added into public water at a continuous concentration to reach that naturally occurring limit and no more. There are advantages to fluoride being added to the public water, but there are also controversial disadvantages. American Dental Association (ADA) has written and article on 5 Reasons Why Fluoride in Water is Good for Communities (ADA, 2017.). The ADA then proceeds to go into depth on each of these five topics, as I will summarize in my own words. First, fluoride prevents tooth decay by being present in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One of the main disagreement is fluoridation takes away the public s choice. Rodriguez reportedly said it is a violation of his individual rights by the government because the process forces people to consume a substance they may not know is present or that they would rather avoid (Advocate, V. 2015). There is also a controversial debate if it would be cheaper for the cities and communities to discontinue the fluoridation program. Then, Teek Miller, a retired science and math teacher wrote a letter to her city council and stated that she thinks brushing teeth with fluoride is beneficial, but swallowing the chemical is not. Miller goes on to explain how fluoride is damaging to the bones and brain, when swallowing (Advocate, V. 2015). Public health officials have been looking into the health considerations when digesting fluoride, because in large amounts, fluoride is considered poison, but those levels cannot be reached by drinking just fluoridated ... Describe The Difference Between First And Second-Degree Burns Burns are classified by the depth of the skin affected; There are two categories of burns partial thickness burns, first and second degree burns, and full thickness burns, third degree burns. First degree burns can be obtained through sunburns or brief exposer to very hot or cold objects and are the least serious with only damage to the epidermis or top layer of the skin. You can identify first degree burns through red skin with possible slight swelling and pain. Since these burns are not very serious medical attention is not usually needed but homecare options include soaking the affected area in cool water these burns have a recovery time of about a week. • 7. How Did The Ku Klux Klan Affect Our Society Since 1865, the Ku Klux Klan has been responsible for America s many atrocities in history. Driven by hatred and resentment, the Klan terrorized minorities of all kinds in this country for more than a century. Extending into almost every southern state by 1870, it became a vehicle for white southern resistance to the Republican Party s Reconstruction era policies. This single violent group was responsible for thousands of deaths, and would help to weaken the political power of Southern blacks and Republicans. On December 24, 1865, during the reconstruction of the South after the Civil War, six Confederate veterans from Pulaski, Tennessee created the infamous Ku Klux Klan. Confederate General Nathan Bedford Forrest became Grand Wizard of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Simmons, in 1915, on Stone Mountain, Georgia. This new version of the Klan focused mainly on new areas such as anti Catholicism and anti immigration and they supported prohibition. It stressed fundamentalism in religion. A pamphlet published in Atlanta by Simmons in 1917, brought into the light the Klan s goals as to shield the sanctity of the home and the chastity of womanhood; to maintain white supremacy; to teach and faithfully inculcate a high spiritual philosophy through an exalted ritualism; and by a practical devotedness to conserve, protect and maintain the distinctive institutions, rights, privileges, principles and ideals of a pure Americanism. (McWhirter, Cameron 65) The new founder of the Klan recruited many new followers by joining fraternal organizations. The new members paid initiation fees and received Ku Klux Klan costumes in return. The Klan presented itself as a fraternal, activist and ardently patriotic organization. In 1922, 1924, and1926 the Klan elected many state officials and a number of Congressmen even though they professed themselves nonpolitical. The organization took its symbol, a burning cross, and held rallies, parades, and marches around the country (History 2). The burning cross was simply a symbol of intimidation. Its lighting during meetings was often accompanied by prayer and singing of hymns. At its peak in the 1920 s, Klan membership exceeded four million people nationwide. Members were drawn from all sectors of society, and many civic leaders, politicians, and law enforcement officials either belonged or deferred to the Klan. The growing violence from the Klan caused wide resentment, and by 1922 a number of anti Klan organizations had formed all over the place. A prominent Protestant minister, Reinhold Niebuhr spoke out against the Klan and that gained national attention. After that, many opposing groups started speaking out against the Klan and their violent ways. One ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I will compare 5 months old s in a task that involves possible and impossible outcomes. Piaget s theory specifies the cognitive competencies of children of this age. 1a. During the sensorimotor stage children experience the world around them differently than how older people do, this of course this can be seen by observing the way in which children gather and process new information that is within their grasp. What the sensorimotor stage does is bring about the five senses into play, children that are just below the age of two years would use most of their five senses. These children ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 2a. Habituation is the way in which people respond to things are after constant repetition. What this means is the way in which people respond is the exact same way in which people get over a new hit single, or trend. After constant simulating repetition of the response of a person to said thing would decrease, meaning they pay less mind to what is being shown, told or given. Dishabituation is basically the opposite of habituation in the sense that instead of unable to not have a decrease in response to a stimulation that repeats, it is when after the person has undergone habituation he/she would come to go back to the way they were. What this means is that if a person goes through habituation, they would revert back as if they had never gone through habituation in the first place, and in turn would come to have the same response that they had undergone when they were first stimulated by whatever they were shown or given. Habituation helps researchers study the cognitive process in infants by allowing them to monitor and measure exactly at what age is an infant able to thoroughly process information and how fast is said infant able to learn it. Which in turn allows these researchers to know exactly how the child would learn to respond after constant stimulation. Take into mind for instance a 5 month old child, the child would be playing peek a boo with his/her mother, at first glance the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Transgender Equality In Sports How does one define gender? Is it in terms of sex or is a distinct term with separate qualities and qualifications? In the past century, sports have wrestled with these questions on how to qualify and quantify gender. By addressing these issues, whether intentional or not, the sports world has certainly broken down some barriers to transgender equality. Nevertheless, there is certainly more work to do to further progress transgender equality in sports and arguably it is the moral obligation of the sports world to pursue such equality. Ultimately, transgender people should have the right to pursue competitive careers that match their gender identity. Before addressing the issue of transgender equality in sports one must first understand what ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The argument centers around the idea that female transgender athletes may have unfair advantages over their competitors due to their strength or height that is a byproduct of testosterone (Time, 2015). This proposal has multiple flaws. First, there is the misconception that female transsexual athletes keep the physical strength of their previously male body, but this claim is not supported by medical facts (Krane Barak, 2012). Specifically, studies have shown that after one year a transitioning transsexuals testosterone levels drop to be consistent with those of a cisgender female athlete, their muscle mass decreases, their body fat redistributed to match their identity, [and] bone density is decreased (Krane Barak, 2012). Consequently, researchers have concluded that female transsexuals can compete in sports without having an inherent physiological advantage (Krane Barak, 2012). Now, some may argue that based on this evidence only transsexual athletes should be allowed to compete, which brings up my second point: the pervasive idea that male athletes are inherently superior to female athletes. Not only is such an idea sexist in nature, it is also discriminatory. In general, transgender males do not tend to face as much opposition to allow them to play competitively (Time, 2015). I believe that it is in the acceptance of our true selves, imperfections and all, that we gain the ability to view others through a lens colored with compassion and acceptance. It is then that we can become a leader who is self aware and emotionally competent. Personal Philosophy of Innovation My personal philosophy of innovation encompasses many ideas. • 11. Racial Hygiene And The Victims Of Medical Experiments Each year, about 2.7 million shelter animals are euthanized, simply because they have nowhere to call home . We humans seem to think we can determine which lives are worthy, or unworthy, of life. Similarly, Hitler believed he had the right to determine which lives were worthy of living. During the Holocaust, it is estimated that about 6 million Jews were euthanized because he deemed them as undeserving of life. Included within that estimation are the victims of medical experiments, which physicians imposed on them without consent. People in positions of power determined who were worthy of continuing to live, with what we now consider basic human rights, and those unworthy were euthanized or used in medical experimentation. By simply understanding the expansive amount of pain and suffering these unworthy individuals went through, you will understand why it is imperative that we teach this dark point in human history and make sure it is never repeated. In the early twentieth century, a popular idea known as racial hygiene played a prominent role in creating a division between races. The German government created a set of policies that dictated which individuals were worthy and unworthy of reproducing, in the hopes of obtaining more desirable qualities, based on these ideas. In 1933, the German government started a series of forced sterilizations, without consent. Robert Jay Lifton writes that a group of individuals deemed hereditarily sick were the main targets. ... The mill s management used many other scare tactics to try and persuade employees to reject the union. Opinion turned when working conditions directly contributed to the death of an employee. This employee had not felt well and requested some time to rest. The supervisor rejected his request and the employee subsequently died at his workplace. Following this incident, which clearly demonstrated the poor condition of their employment, many employees began to express an interest in the union. Until that point the workers did not feel that they had a chance of making a difference. The lack of education and management intimidation had their desired effect until they realized that unionization was their only opportunity for a better work environment. The difference between role and status is that you occupy a status, but you play a role (Linton 1936). Although statuses are macrosociology based, there is still confusion between roles and statuses. Goffman believed that there were stages in which we performed our assigned roles such as front stage and back stage. The front stage is wherever we deliver our lines for example, taking the role of your occupation. The back stage is a place we can relax, have some privacy, and reflect from the front stage. For example, being in your bedroom not having to worry about a thing and being able to discuss what happened on the front stage. This can affect how we present ourselves because when we re in the front stage we re putting up in act to present our self to whoever our audience is. Although, the dignity of Matrimony is low compared to the other sacraments it is essential for the church to continue the apostolic tradition of faith. Marriage is a valid union that has moral and social aspects The Sacrament of Matrimony signifies the union of Christ and the Church.
