A Student Chance At Success Vs. Low Income Schools Essay
A Students Chance at Success Compared to Privileged Students Low income schools affects a
students education highly because they receive a more lousy education compared to school that have
more money. When I turned 12, my mom and I moved from LA to Inglewood because my mom could
not pay the rent anymore. The middle school and high school around the Inglewood area were so
different compared to the school I went in LA. The schools looked run down and old and the
educational domain was not great for students that want to achieve good academic skills. In I Just
Wanna Be Average, Mike Rose writes about how students that are not doing well, get placed in a
vocational class, teachers are not well prepared to educate the students, and teachers do not know a
way to engage students to learn. However in, Aria: Memoir of a Bilingual childhood, Richard
Rodriguez writes about how he his teachers from his catholic school came to his house to talk to his
parents because he was not contributing in class, since he did not know English very well. This
indicated that compared to Roses teachers, Rodriguez s teachers wanted him to succeed and want him
to engage in class. Furthermore, students or schools with low socio economic background, have a
harder time achieving good educational or social skills compared to schools with high socio economic
background. If people lived as equals, everyone would have a chance at being successful.
Communities that have a socio economic background, have

Action Sports and Television Essay
Action Sports and Television Actions sports have always been interesting to me. The way the athletes
perform their tricks, how judges score them, and how the camera operators keep up with such a fast
paced competition. The more I thought of my interest in this subject, the more I wanted to know. The
growth of action sports on television follows the same pattern of any other type of show genre in its
early stages. Documentaries, themed shows or movies, and especially the coverage on live television
would be good places to start looking into. The impact on cable television and sports channels could
further delve into other questions that comes to mind, like how the public viewed them. When did
corporate sponsorships begin to move the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An example being, as skis were manufactured lighter yet still retaining their durability, people began
to push their limitations based on the limitations of the equipment. Many people give credit to people
considered pioneers of action sports. Rodney Mullen, Tony Hawk, Matt Hoffman, Travis Pastrana are
just a few heavyweight title holders for defining what extreme sports are as well as helping to
stimulate their popularity in the public eye. Television coverage of competitions has brought extreme
sports and their participants more attention as well. The X Games and the Olympics are only two of
many examples. Sponsorships play a huge role in any television programming. When shows of early
television aired, they had live performances of a company s jingle ( Vitameatavegamin episode of I
Love Lucy) and even demonstrations of exactly what it was supposed to do for the average american
viewer. Cigarette ads were one of the most common, like before one the episodes of I Love Lucy we
watched in class where the stick figure versions of Lucy and Desi were standing next to a large box of
cigarettes and smoking one themselves. Sponsorships by tobacco companies are not around anymore
on television. Companies controlling all aspects of a show are long gone and
corporate sponsorships are seen plastered all over anything a company can get their hands on during
air time for action sports. Everything from billboards to the bearings

The House On Mango Street Summer Assignment
Dillon Afenir Honors Sophomore Comp/Lit 1 September 2016 The House on Mango Street Summer
Assignment 1. Identify an instance where Cisneros uses powerful imagery. Explain the effect of that
imagery upon the reader. Remember that imagery can appeal to any of the senses, including sight,
sound, taste, smell, or touch. Throughout The House on Mango Street, Sandra Cisneros puts plenty of
examples of powerful and meaningful imagery. It helps to contribute to the overall tone and message
the stories are trying to exude. In the vignette A Rice Sandwich Esperanza is sent to the headmaster s
office after trying to get into a lunch line that she wasn t usually in, even when she had a letter from
her mom that she was supposed to be there. The headmaster eventually becomes aware of where she
lives: a rundown, raggedy house in an even worse neighborhood. The headmaster allows Esperanza to
return to the canteen and began to eat. However, she is not welcomed by the other kids and is watched
by lots of boys and girls... while [Esperanza] cried and ate [her] sandwich, the bread greasy and the
rice cold (45). What Cisneros says really targets the visual and auditory senses. When I have read this
vignette, I could visualize her looking out the window of the headmaster s office, having point out her
house, and then only to return to the canteen humiliated just to be looked upon as an unusual creature.
What I also picked up on is the tears and the worst looking sandwich anyone in the canteen

The Effects Of Mercury In The Great Lakes
The Effects of Mercury and its Appearance in the Great Lakes While liquid gold may be a modern
allegory for something desirable, there is another liquid metal that is quite the opposite of desirable.
Mercury is an unusual metal in that in its standard elemental form it is a liquid. Due to the increase in
industry over the last 100 years, Mercury levels have risen, which cause serious damage to humans.
There are three different chemical forms that mercury exists in and each has a specific effect on
human health, however for the purpose of this paper only two will be talked about. The first is
elemental mercury (Hg), which also called metallic mercury. In this form the primary health effect is
when it is breathes as vapor where it can be absorbed through the lungs. Symptoms of this kind
include tremors, emotional changes, insomnia, neuromuscular changes, headaches, disturbances in
sensations, changes in nerve responses, and performance deficits on tests of cognitive functions. At
higher doses there can be kidney effects, respiratory failure, and even death. In this form it is emitted
into the air from coal fired power plants, waste incinerators, smelting plants, which is by far the
leading man made source of mercury in the Great Lakes. It is released into the air and transported by
air currents and will eventually fall and be deposited in soil or water. This is particularly important to
the people living in Michigan because in Detroit the mercury found in rain has been

Analysis Of The Omo Valley Of Southwest Ethiopia Between...
The Mursi are a people of the Omo Valley of Southwest Ethiopia between the Omo and mago rivers,
they are transhumant pastoralist, who as a whole they consist of less than 10,000 people. Living in a
remote and isolated place in the world they have a unique culture different from any other. This
includes their customs, language, economics, food, ect. Perhaps the most well know practise of the
Mursi is their use of lip plates worn by the women of the tribe. This is followed by their unique
connection with the earth. And lastly the men s practise of ceremonial duel fighting or stick battling.
These practises have become emblematic of their culture, and allow the Mursi to identify with one
another in these aspects, and differentiate themselves from other tribes.
The well known lip plates are given to a girl at 15 16 years of age and is a tradition that goes back
hundreds of years. Today deciding whether or not to get a lip plate is a can be life changing to the girl.
Many women decide not to get lip plates, this is to be able to attend markets with other neighboring
tribes and not be discriminated against. The women of the Mursi who have lip plates are judged and
ridiculed when going to markets, and outside their tribes region. However, this decision makes it less
likely for a woman to become married, as the Mursi men find women with lip plates more attractive,
and the fact that it is a custom that their culture holds of great value. The lip plates are given

Essay on Aspects of Social Injustice in The Shawshank...
It is not an exaggeration to say that society is an irreplaceable factor when it comes to developing a
person s potential to its fullest. Indeed, a considerable number of features considered characteristics of
our kind could have only been developed within the boundaries of society and are found nowhere else
in the world of living organisms. However, society may not always be the best platform for the
development of one s individuality. Sometimes people are not treated in a correct manner, which gives
rise to social injustice. Art, in numerous forms, has been reflecting this unpleasant phenomenon for
many centuries. In the movie titled The Shawshank Redemption, by director Frank Darbabont, the
idea of social injustice is illustrated ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They employ the abilities of the main character to get out of difficult situations with taxes. This means
that while being in prison, Andy Dufresne is forced to use experience to trick the federal tax system.
In other words, a criminal, after being accused of committing a crime, is continuously forced to
commit another crime. While prison is supposed to make people think about the wrong they have
done, the prison in the movie forces a person to walk the path of a criminal much further than one
wants to.
Another aspect in which social injustice is portrayed in the movie is a scene involving one of the
supporting characters: an old prison librarian named Brooks Hatlen. After spending fifty years in the
prison environment, the poor man is finally set free, but he finds it extremely difficult to adapt to a
society that has changed over five decades. In fact, he finds it impossible, so he hangs himself,
suggesting that there is no way for him to adapt to the new world. Once again, this is a vivid example
of the negative impact of prison on individuals. Society accused Brooks of committing a forbidden
action and punished him for it by taking away his freedom. However, in reality, it put him in the
destructive environment that gradually destroyed his personality and did not leave him a chance to
become a better person (Kallen 89). Therefore, society was

The Bears Of British Columbia
1. Connor Baldwin Discusses the Bears of British Columbia
As a media and public relations agent for the Canadian Province of British Columbia, Connor
Baldwin has spent many years photographing the bears of the region. There are two distinct species of
bear that are native to British Columbia, the Grizzly Bear and the Kermode Bear. Each of these bear
species are unique, and important to the wildlife and ecology of their habitat.
The Grizzly Bear, or Ursus arctos horribilus, is the second largest land based carnivore in all of North
America. It has a life expectancy of twenty years, and the average male Grizzly Bear can reach an
astounding three hundred fifty kilograms. While there are many bears that have the same brown
coloring as the Grizzly, these are easily spotted due to their anatomy. The Grizzly Bear has a large
hump or protrusion on its back, near the area of the shoulder blades. This mass of tissue and muscle
helps to support the enormous front legs of the bear. Other distinctive characteristics of the Grizzly
Bear include a concave snout, extremely long claws, and poor eyesight. Though dark brown is the
most commonly viewed fur color, the Grizzly can be any shade from ivory to nearly black.
The Kermode Bear, also known as the Ghost Bear or Spirit Bear, is a cultural symbol for the British
Columbia Province. This white bear, is actually a black bear that carries a recessive gene. Both of the
Kermode Bear s parents must carry the gene for their offspring to have the

My Field Placement Will Be At Child Protective Services Essay
Introduction
My field placement will be at Child protective services in El Paso TX. The department of child
Protective Services withholds a wide range of services and responsibilities that include, investigating
reports of abuse and neglect of children, provide services to children and families in their homes,
providing services to help youth in foster care successfully transition to adulthood and helping
children find adoption. There are many subdivisions within the department itself which offers different
amenities during an open case with CPS, although these services solely justify the department, there is
a unit known as Family Based Services or also FBSS which focuses on resources that will strengthen
the family s privation in order to ensure child safety and wellbeing. The Department predominantly
benefits from task groups rather than treatment groups, because the department is on deadlines with
each individual case, a treatment group would not benefit for the departments ultimate value which is
Family Reunification. If the department is involved with a family for too long this may cause
emotional distress on the children as well as the family. Every year in the United States, more than one
out of every hundred children are victims of substantiated child abuse and neglect. For instance, in
2006, 3.6 million cases of child maltreatment were investigated, which is a rate of 47.8 per 1,000
children. In that year, nearly 1 million maltreatment claims were substantiated

Essay on Costing Procedure of Flooring Contrator
You can t take it anymore. If you have to look at those scratches in the living room floor, the foot
traffic stains down the hallway, the Kool aid stains under the dining room table, or the chipped tile in
the kitchen one more time, you might go off the edge and wind up in the looney bin. You are tired of
going to a friend s home and secretly envying their perfect looking floors. Gone are the days of
flipping through magazines and drooling over the pictures of nicely decorated rooms with flooring
that looks amazing. So you ask your friend what company did their floor and how much it cost, not to

Labor per square foot is the given rate per square foot of floor area. Initial Preparatory Work involves
all actions required to be completed before the contractor can begin working on the floor. There are
three parts to this section. Initially, all the furniture and fixtures (toilet, sinks not attached to walls)
need to be removed. Depending on the quantity/size of furniture/fixtures that need to be removed,
contractors will typically charge between $15 and $50 per hour. Customers can cut out this cost if they
agree to have the items removed prior to the contractor arriving. However, if it is agreed upon and the
items are not removed, the contractor will usually charge 150% of the normal rate, because this will
add additional time to the job, causing him to possibly run behind schedule for another job, and he
schedules jobs based on time estimates. The next part is the removal and disposal of the existing floor.
The price for this can range from $25 to $75 per hour, based on the type of flooring being removed.
Carpet and vinyl are easy to remove, thus would be on the low end. Tile is more difficult because
mortar is used to install it and all of that has to be broken up and removed. Again, the customer can
save during this phase if they do the removal themselves, with the same penalty if not removed prior
to the contractor arrival. The final part of this phase is repairing the subfloor. Costs for this repair vary
greatly on what needs to be repaired, and are usually

Policy And Implications Of The President s Inaugural...
Assignment #1: Policy and Implications Paper
Mary Marrone
USC School of Social Work
January 29, 2016
Section One: Choose and Research a Policy
Introduction
At the president s inaugural, the 2010 National Drug Control Strategy presented an evidence based
practice that addressed reducing drug use and eliminating its consequences in the United States
(National Drug Control Strategy, 2013). The president responded by having his administration draft
the third way in drug policy, which rejects taking extreme measures on drug addicts and in
criminalizing them, also minimizing the United States participation in the war on drugs (National
Drug Control Strategy, 2013). This policy hopes to take a nuance approach on drug policy as it aims to
balance public health programs, effective law enforcement, and international partnerships. After all we
are in the twenty first century, where forward thinking is highly commendable and very much needed.
The third way is rooted in the belief that drug addiction is a disease and causes grave damage to the
brain (National Drug Control Strategy, 2013). Therefore it is true that one can seek treatment in hopes
of recovery for his/her disease or one has the ability to completely prevent them from acquiring the
disease of addiction. This policy is believed to represent the future of drug policy not only nationally,
but globally as well (National Drug Control Strategy, 2013). History/Evolution of the Policy The

A World Of Calamity, By Ross Gay
Ross Gay s book Against Which, portrays his poetry to readers allowing them to gain understanding of
the cruel world that one lives in. Moreover, the unusual brutalities that people are inevitable
confronted with in life. The common denominators within Gay s poems such as violence, love, fear,
and loss allows the reader to visualize characters transformation within his poems. In a world of
calamity, Gay has created poems that portray the corporal conforming to gender and sex but also
human development. Using a reader response criticism lens, I will be demonstrating my interpretation
of Ross Gay s poems and the meaning that I believe to be a common interpretation of his work.
Within, Gay s poems, It Starts at Birth and Angels Out of Reach one is able to see a pattern of human
transformation. By experiencing pain, love, loss, fear, and wisdom one is able to see Gay s characters
evolve through the narrators and readers gaze. In doing so, one is able to reflect on Gay s poems and
gain wisdom themselves. Gay s poem It Starts at Birth demonstrates a title that starts at the
establishment of ones life, while portraying new experiences, that one gains while enduring life.
However, the poem itself illuminates the title of his book Against Which. This close analysis of the
title guides the reader through a serious of evaluation and guides the reader to one question, against
which? Throughout the poem, the repetition of the tittle repeats ten times. For example, against which,

At Flint Ridge State Park you can find craters in the ground which were dug for the flint found in the
area. Flint Ridge isn t just a small area it runs from National rd. to the west Appalachian Mountains
and all the way South to Florida, as well as running North to Maine. If you go to Flint Ridge and dig
in the pits or anywhere in the area for that matter you may find dead Indians or arrowheads that were
made by Indians and used for fighting here or getting food. Some of the flint found here is black in
color and is not from Flint Ridge. This flint is called Upper Mercer Flint and it is from the Coshocton
area. There are many reasons for the different kinds of flint but the best known is that all of the flint on
Flint Ridge was brought in by the latest glacier between 11,400 and 12,000 years ago and is so
colorful because it is made from flint from here to the Rocky Mountains, and the black flint in the
Coshocton area, Upper Mercer, is flint strictly from the Ohio area. All flint is found on the ridges from
where it was pushed up by the glacier and not nearly as much at the bottom because that is where all

Myrtle Wilson Character Analysis
Myrtle Wilson is a superficial woman, who despite being fortuneless and living in the Valley Of Ashes
herself, judges others based on their appearances. On Myrtle s way to see her sister, Myrtle encounters
Tom Buchanan. Tom is a wealthy man, Myrtle sees him on the train, and the first thing that catches
her sight is his dress suit . Clothes say a lot about an individual. They can make an impression on
others because clothes reflect the traits and personality of a person. In this instance, Tom s suit is too
formal for a train ride. His attire catches Myrtle s attention, to her, his clothing represents his wealth
and high class. Myrtle is intrigued by Tom s expensive suit. Myrtle s husband had to borrow a suit for

Myrtle further examines Tom s appearance and goes on to acknowledge his white shirt front . The

means façade. Tom appears as wealthy, pure and desirable to Myrtle when in fact, he has on a façade
and is hollow, selfish and superficial instead. Myrtle cannot distinguish between the two and is
captivated by the way he lives and carries himself. When Mrs. McKee compliments Myrtle on her
dress, she condescendingly shrugs it off and offers her the dress as she has got to get another one

Pai s Opinions Of Leadership In Whale Rider
During the first scene in Whale Rider, the protagonist Pai is born into a tribe that depends on her twin
brother on becoming chief, but with his and their mothers death during childbirth, her grandfather
Koro wished in his heat that I (Pai) had never been born). Though his opinion of Pai changes as she
grows and they become very close. Being the chief of the community, Paka takes tradition and culture
very seriously Paka believes that Pai s twin brother was born to be the chief, though the audience finds
out that it was Pai s duty to become chief. But while Pai shows this clearly, Koro s antiquated ways

Koro s opinion of leadership is out dated and sexist while Pai s opinions are modern and suit the new
ways of the world today. Koro believes that leading is a man s job and a woman s duty lies within the
house. Pai on the other hand learns that she is just as capable as the other tribe boys and while she is
not allowed to attend the school Koro is running to find a new chief, she seeks out the help of Rawiri
and excels in the leadership qualities Koro is so desperately trying to find within the boys. Nanny does
not show much of an opinion about leadership throughout the movie, though she does have similar
ideas to Koro, You might be the boss out there... But I m the boss in this kitchen. While she is not as
against a female leader like Koro, she still has an out dated opinion of a woman s duty within the
house. Rawiri shows a lot of belief in Pai, especially when he agrees to teach her how to use the
Taiaha behind Koro s back. Though this does not fully display his ideas on leadership, it does prove to
the audience that he believes in Pai and her ability to lead, therefor showing an understanding of
modern ideals about leadership contrary to Paka s judgment. Paka s ideas on leadership barely change
throughout the movie until Pai goes to the extreme level of riding the whale out to sea. By doing this
she ultimately becomes The Whale Rider , and Koro s traditional view of leadership changes
completely. In one of the last scenes, when Pai is lying in the hospital bed with Paka next to her he
begins to talk to her, apologising for his ways, Wise leader, forgive me. I am just a fledgling new to

trouble getting into character, i.e. looking very excited or interested in the information I was

The Pros And Cons Of Volunteer Fire Departments
Volunteer fire departments everywhere have staffing problems. If you take a drive past any fire
department you will probably see a volunteers needed sign. A fire chief in Pennsylvania stated I would
like to have a greater turnout of firefighters on scene than what we currently have, he said. We have a
lack of volunteers who are able to respond during daytime hours (Shawgo, 2014, p. 17). There are
several reason that there is not as good of a turnout as there used to be. Back in the 1970s and 1980s
the thing to do in town was to hang out at the fire house. There was not as much going on as there is
today. People today want to spend more time with their family and go out to the movies or mini
golfing, things that family s did not do as much back in the day. The average amount of training that a
volunteer must go through is about 130 hours. Most people see that as too much time to sacrifice.
Also, in today s economy many people work a second or even third job in order to make ends meet.
There are also more single parent households then there used to be, which does not allow for hardly
any time to volunteer. Due to the reasons stated above it is very difficult to properly staff fire trucks in
volunteer departments. The average age of members continues to increase. The few people left who
still find time to volunteer often work a regular job during the day, which makes day time emergency
calls even harder to respond to with proper staffing. The typical fire truck holds 6

The Point Of Euthyphro
What is the point of the Euthyphro?
Euthyphro [ca. 399 395 BCE], by Plato, is a written dialogue about the events which occurred before
the trial of Socrates , where Socrates was charged with two crimes impiety against the pantheon of
Athens and corruption of the youth. Socrates was accused of failing to acknowledge the gods that the
city acknowledges and introducing new deities . The consequence for such a crime was death.
Euthyphro was in the court to present manslaughter charges against his father to the court. Socrates
begins his debate with Euthyphro by asking Euthyphro does he have a clear understanding of what is
pious and impious. He asks this because he is face with the crime of impiety; Socrates hopes to learn
from Euthyphro so he has a better understanding of his charge and can better defend himself in trial.

The Underdogs By Mariano Azuela
The classic Willie Nelson and Waylon Jennings song Mammas, Don t Let Your Babies Grow Up to Be
Cowboys tells the sad, but familiar story of men growing up and leaving their families for reasons
they do not fully comprehend. It is the women, however, in the novel The Underdogs, by Mariano
Azuela, that understand this all too well. In The Underdogs, the author depicts Northern Mexican
villages overrun by the Mexican Revolution sending impromptu soldiers to fight the war, leaving few
citizens left behind with essentially nothing. Azuela paints a picture of the tremendous pressure put on
the citizens of Northern Mexico during the Revolution and we see this through his descriptions of
massive casualties and families feeling incredible pain due to the absence of their loved ones
everyday. Azuela uses this wartime atmosphere to describe how important women in Mexico were at
this time and their significance during the Mexican Revolution. Although degradation and
manipulation of women are quite obvious themes throughout the story, we see that the women of
Mexico played a major role in the Mexican Revolution, whether they fought in the battles themselves,
or were just a fading memory in a soldier s mind.
To fully understand the significance of women and their treatment in this time, one must first
understand the tension going on in the region. Pancho Villa, the leader of the Mexican revolutionist,
proclaimed himself as the military governor of the state of Chihuahua, a state in

Essay On Saccharin
Saccharin is an artificial sweetener which is commonly used to sweeten drinks as many believe that it
has lower calorific values compared to sugar. The scientific name of saccharin is 2 benzothiazol 1,1,3
trione. Saccharin is used as an artificial sweetener as even though only a small amount of it is used, it
is as sweet as sugar when used in large amount. This concept which leads many people to have the
belief that it is healthier to use artificial sweeteners such as saccharin compared to sugar.
Saccharin was first discovered by Constantin Fahlberg, a chemist working on coal tar derivatives in
the year 1897. One night, after a day of laboratory work, Fahlberg sat down to dinner. He picked up a
roll with his hand and bit into a remarkably sweet crust. Fahlberg realised that he had accidentally

information to the public. The main focus of this essay will be looking two main concepts which are
newsworthiness and the dark figure of crime, relating 5 news articles that are centred around child
abuse that have featured in the New Zealand Herald and stuff.co.nz.
The media plays an important role in society by creating and shaping society s attitudes about most
current issues including child abuse. In New Zealand, as well as in the international media, the
physical abuse of a child regularly features in the newspapers, magazines, radio and television
(Merchant, 2010). When it comes to the public understanding of child abuse, this is influenced by the
knowledge that they gain through reading newspapers or mass media like the television or radio.
Kitzinger (2004) states that our individual view and sense of the world are a social construct and the
media are an important resource to help us construct that world view.
The way that child abuse is reported in the media has become what you would call entertainment
where there seems to be an incline towards dramatising child abuse in a

Implementation of SMT Concept in Intel Processor Essay
The main idea of this article is implementation of SMT concept in Intel processor which is based on
efficient use of limited amount of processor resources such that at OS and software level it is seems
just like multiple processors are running multiple processes. It is less costly and more efficient.
Sharing policy is also playing an important role in performance improvement. Background: In order to
improve processor performance following traditional approaches like higher clock speeds, instruction
level parallelism, and cache hierarchies were used. But now thread level parallelism is also taken into
consideration. Higher clock speed: Achieve by microarchitecture pipelining to finer granularities
known as superpipelining. Large number of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hyperthreading technology architecture: Hyperthreading technology makes a single physical
processor appear to be multiple logical processors at OS level. From a microarchitecture perspective,
it means that instructions will persist and execute simultaneously on shared execution resources. Die
size and complexity: Hyperthreading technology is resource efficient and deliver a large performance
improvement at minimal cost because it entails only a small increase in die size (is due to a second
architectural state, additional control logic, and replication of a few key processor resources) due to
limited replication of physical processor resources. Microarchitecture choices and tradeoffs: To share
resources, we chose among possible sharing schemes that included partition threshold full sharing
Partition: In a partitioned resource, each logical processor can use only half the entries. Resource
partitioning is simple and low complex. It works best for the major pipeline queues in the in order
pipeline. Threshold: Another way of sharing resources is to limit the maximum resource usage. This
scheme puts a threshold on the number of resource entries a logical processor can have. Full sharing:
The most flexible mechanism for resource sharing, do not limit the maximum

Levitt And Dubner s Superfreakanomics
Superfreakanomics is set up in chapters of short excerpts that dive into different topics ranging from
illegal industries, such as prostitution and other examples, such as the safety behind using car seats
and the altruistic nature of humans. Each chapter provides many stories, data, background, and
commentary on how this system is functioning poorly, could be improved, or related to other larger
issues in society, such as combating terrorism. In their introduction, Levitt and Dubner discuss seeing
the world from the perspective of economists and include being a person in an undeveloped nation
such as India and the transition from horses to cars, as well as talking about statistics and the bending
of knowledge. This introduction shows that every day events can be quite interesting and can be a

Prostitutes do mostly part time work and can make a lot of money to support themselves, as opposed
to taking other jobs, due to the fact that the work is illegal and customers are willing to pay. In
addition to supply and demand to support oneself, the motivation for this field of work is also related
to differences in how much money a woman earns compared to a man. A woman is willing to be a
prostitute, since she can charge a higher. With relations to economics, prostitutes are involved in cost
benefit analysis when it comes to having a pimp, just like people do when it comes to real estate

Descriptive Essay About Michaelmas
Michaelmas
Every year, on the colorful fall day of September 29th, Sacramento Waldorf School hosts a festival
where good triumphs and evil parishes. Young girls and boys eagerly dress up as knights, to help Saint
George and Saint Michael conquer and tame the malicious dragon, through good actions and deeds.
Along with fun activities, caramel apples, and motivating spirit, Michaelmas is a special way to
prepare students for the challenging academic year ahead.
Michaelmas is a whole school event, where grades first through twelve are assigned a different role, to
put on a show that has its own unique twist each time. The roles include villagers (played by first
through fourth grade), Knights (played by the fifth grade) the dragon (Played by the sixth grade),
Lords and nobles (played by seventh through eleventh grade) and lastly, Saint George and Saint
Michael (played by twelfth graders). The story told is a classic good vs. evil, preformed inside a giant
circle, created by everyone attending the festival. A town of poor villages are fearful of a dragon, who
is merciless and cruel. One day, the dragon attacks the village, leaving the villagers desperate and
frightened. All the noble knights flee in fear, except for one, Saint George. Saint George bravely faces
the dragon, but instead of using his sword, he kneels and prays to saint Michael to give him wisdom
and strength. Michael appears out of the heavens, and empowers Saint George, with courage, and
kindness. Saint George

Why Is Google Making Us Dumb
Google has created a question in our mind that even it cannot answer. Is Google really making us
dumb? Since the creation of the Internet, Google was always there to provide immediate answers to
our questions. The main goal of Google was to create a more intelligent future, but it may have a
reverse effect on us.
Google being the main search engine on the web, many researchers believe that it has a double sided
effect on our ability to research. Googling actually improves our ability and methods of retrieving
information, but it may affect our ability to remember. According to a magazine called Science ,
Google is not decreasing the quantity of how much we can remember, but instead simply on how we

Leadership As An Effective Leader
The world of healthcare, its delivery and services are forever evolving; and in the interim so is its
infrastructure and workforce capacity (Klienman, 2003). Healthcare executives must be equipped with
the proper skills in order to be effective leaders in the field. Dye and Garman (2006) highlight various
critical competencies all healthcare executives should harness in order to be influential leaders in their
present or future leadership role. Some competences may come natural to individuals, while others
have to be developed and strengthened over time. Leaders are faced with challenges such as ethical
dilemmas, budgetary cuts and organizational restructuring. Furthermore they are also responsible for
sustaining employee morale, being a visionary and a role model within their respective agencies.
However, the key to their success in being an effective leader is based upon a foundation of the ability
to influence and an understanding of their ethical approach to decision making (Grenny, Patterson,
Maxfield, McMillan Switzler, 2013).
Based upon what I have learned throughout the course, I define influential leadership as an individuals
ability to affect their team positively through motivation and inspiration to achieve organizational
outcomes. Leaders should not use their authority in an abusive manner through negative influence; in
turn it should be used to empower their employees and to make them feel appreciated for their work.

Microsoft E Business Suite ( Ebs ) Upgrade
Possibly the most comprehensive change to the daily operations will be the Oracle E business suite
(EBS) upgrade. This IS will provide many solutions to the operations and maintenance managers by
providing total operational oversight at the click of a button. EBS enables users to oversee projects,
asset milestones and budgets, and staff projects. It also has a quick report generator for business
meetings and scheduling. Another feature that will be highly beneficial is the ability for EBS to
integrate and enhance existing programs. It will streamline financials, enhance supply chain
management, and fulfill human capital management requirements. Utilizing the asset lifecycle
management tool within EBS will enhance financial management of our aircraft and equipment items.
It will also calculate the most efficient way to make payments on the aircraft that will maximize the
use of our funds and free up income that can be used elsewhere within the budget. Many of the
equipment items will require calibration from testing measurements and diagnostics equipment
(TMDE) laboratories, which require scheduling and shipping coordination. For this task, the value
chain execution tool would be perfect. It will line up and track the schedule of TMDE items that
require calibration; once the items come due shipping will be coordinated automatically. There are
plenty of applications in the Oracle E Business Suite that the club will utilize for our E Business, as

Pros And Cons Of Owning A Gun
Ethical Side
Freedom:
The main ethical debate is that gun ownership revolves around the freedom to bear arms. In the
second amendment from the Bill of Rights, the founding fathers wrote that A well regulated militia,
being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not
be infringed. This gives anyone (as long as they are not a convicted criminal) the unalienable right to
possess a firearm. In a democracy, we should not have to justify owning a gun. If we need one for
protection, hunting, or just because I have an interest in collecting firearms. It is really none of the
governments concern on why we have them unless someone plans on using them the wrong way.
Anyway, there are people who think that the government should ban something because of some
people who abuse it. Why not ban alcohol? Or cigarettes? Or even cars? All of those have caused
more causalities than gun ownership.
Protection:
Criminals exist, so I must protect myself. End of the discussion. Education services, mental health
evaluators, and even our law enforcement can t stop all violence because neither enforcement nor
prevention will work one hundred percent. That s why we have to take it on ourselves to protect
ourselves and the ones we love. We need more law abiding citizens. We could possibly have less mass
shootings, if the average properly trained citizen would provide such a defense to thwart the attacker.

The And Criminal Justice System Essay
Introduction
When comparing real life experiences to book theories there can be a lot of things that are not the
same. One real experience to be found similar to a book experience and deals with a lot of the same
things is CASA to Courts and Criminal Justice in America. They both deal with Advocates, Attorneys,
Judges, courts, etc. There are always different scenarios to be faces in person than what is in the
books. Do books really portray everything that that happens in the real world, or describe every job
description and duties that a job title entails? Book experience and life experiences more often than
not have the same concept but they may not portray everything the same. Also they serve different and
similar functions as well.
Advocate Roles
Advocates are an essential role for juveniles in the criminal justice system. Their role is to speak up
for people in situations where the advocate is either more knowledgeable, will suffer no consequences
by speaking out, and where they can be a buffer for their client. (Criminaljusticeprograms.com, 2013)
CASA (court appointed special advocate) / GAL (Guardian ad Litem) is a trained volunteer appointed
by a judge to represent the best interest of children in cases that come before the court due to alleged
abuse or neglect. 600,000+ children pass through the U.S. foster care and family court system
annually. The average child will spend nearly 2 years in foster care, and on average those children will
change homes three times.

Early American Music Research Paper
One aspect of American history that has remained constant is the development of its music. American
music has always been a building block of American history, constantly changing along with the
country. In the beginning of what would soon become our great country, the migration of European
immigrants was a very heavy influence on American culture, lifestyle, and music at the time. In the
beginning stages of the colonization of America, European religious views were very present and, the
birth of early American sacred music was born out of this time of religious exploration. With many
people attempting to convert others, the music they used portrayed often their views and approaches to
these attempts. One of the groups of people doing this were the Shaker community, they had a belief
of shaking off their sins, the music they used in their services represented the belief of that activity.
With very up tempo music and a heavy Dance feel to it, they used this music to encourage the idea of
shaking off their sins and all ungodly things. Not long after the occurrence of the religious revival in
the new American colonies, the composing of American hymns started with William ... Show more

song was published as the state song for Maryland and in support for the Union, but soon after it was

Rita Charon Listening Theory
In narrative medicine, Dr. Rita Charon asserts that, physical medicine such as, antibiotics, pills, and
other medicine individuals can physical take, can cause the patient to self diagnose their selves.
Although, these medicine are supposed to heal, Dr. Charon reveals the genuine way to heal a patient.
Most of the time when a patient goes to see their doctor, they are slightly afraid. Many doctors just
state to the patients what s wrong with their body, rather the patient telling the doctor what s wrong
with their own body. With the doctors doing that, this allows a disconnected feeling from the patient
towards the doctor. Dr. Charon wants doctors to realize the art of listening and gaining a strong
connection with the patient and not just brushing them off, which leads to more sickness and pain.
Actually listening to the patient can be medicine for them. Additionally, in one American Greetings

Charon listening theory to his case it opened up positive things for him and the patient. House and the

did not want to have his hands on a case like this. Dr. Charon believes that your identity can be shown

patient, it creates major conflict between the two. All the patient wanted was peace, calmness, and
someone to talk to. With House finally coming down to his patient s level and connecting with her as a
person and not just a patient, it allows not only the patient to feel comfort but also House to have that
same comfort feeling. This is beautiful in Charon s eyes. House listened for stories versus listening to

Robert Nozick s Essay Coercion
In this essay i will argue that what is bad about Coercion is that it motivates the Coercer to act badly. I
will divide this essay into two sections, the first section (§ 1) being an explanatory section on
coercion, and the second (§2) an investigation into what is bad about coercion.
In (§1) I will give a brief historical account of coercion, and outline why it is seen as a issue worth
conceptualising. I will then present an account of coercion closely drawn from Robert Nozick that
holds the issuing of a conditional threat (CT) essential to coercion.
§2 will be concerned with answering what is bad about coercion? . I will understand this question s
aim to be identifying what aspect of coercion provides its wrongfulness.

In §2a) I will consider two views on what is bad about wrongful coercion. The first being that it
restricts autonomy, and the second that it is wrong as a result of the fear it induces. After presenting
each view i will debate what i believe to be an unresolvable issue that arises from attributing the
wrongfulness of coercion to either fear or autonomy. In §2b) I will then go onto argue that what makes
coercion bad is the increased likelihood of the Coercer carrying out the wrongful action he has
threatened the Coercee with.
§2a i)Raz stated that to reduce the autonomy the desirable options that were available to an agent must
be reduced. In an instance of coercion the Coercer makes a CT in order to reduce the desirability of a
particular choice in order to get him to choose a different action. For example if someone was to stand
inside a shop and say If you buy a chocolate bar, i am going to shoot you . They would be reducing the
autonomy of people visiting the shop by reducing the desirability of buying a chocolate bar. With this
conception of autonomy it is clear that in an instance of coercion autonomy is

Political Correctness Vs Freedom Of Speech
Political Correctness vs Freedom of Speech Political correctness is the idea that certain words,
policies, or opinions are too offensive and taboo that they should be censored. While this definition
may seem unfair, that is exactly what it is. This idea of being politically correct is on the rise in
America, with various factions and sides taking advantage of it. Most notedly, it has taken effect in
such areas such as the media, academia, and industry. In these areas, employees, students, or any
subject in question may be put to the test of whether or not their views are in line with politically
correct guidelines. In many of these incidents, the subject in question may be reprimanded, ostracized,
or otherwise punished for their crimes of thought or expression. This is a hotly debated topic in
America, with both sides of the debate passionately disputing the worth of such a thing. Due to its
widespread influence, it is debated in nearly every aspect of American life. Some feel that is
necessary, as it protects minorities, women, or any group that may be discriminated against from
offense and or hateful speech . Others feel that it is a clear assault on freedom of speech and
disproportionately punishes those for trivial comments or opinions where no true offense should be
taken. In this essay, the clear and present danger that political correctness poses to our First
Amendment right to freedom of speech and expression will be proven and explained in vivid

Informative Speech On Water
Speech Paloma
Water covers 70% of our planet, and it is easy to think that it will always be plentiful. However,
freshwater, what we drink, bathe in, irrigate our farm fields with makes up only 3% of the world s
water, and two thirds of that is stored in frozen glaciers or unavailable for our use. Many of the water
systems that keep ecosystems thriving and feed a growing human population have become stressed.
Rivers, lakes and aquifers are drying up or becoming too polluted to use. Already, 80 countries suffer
from water shortages that threaten health and economies while 40 percent of the world more than 2
billion people does not have access to clean water or sanitation
We usually associate water shortages with a lack of drinking water, but global water scarcity has a
critical impact on food security. Agriculture consumes more water than any other source. Climate
change is altering patterns of weather around the world, causing shortages and droughts in some areas
and floods in others. Water is key to food security. Crops and livestock need water to grow.
Agriculture requires large quantities of water for irrigation and various production processes. Water
scarcity may limit food production and supply, putting pressure on food prices and increasing
countries dependence on food imports
Less water means farming and other crops that need water to grow have lower yield. Water is needed
to ensure food security, to feed livestock, and to conserve the biodiversity and environment.
Australia
With the growing population of the world, demand for food is increasing. This means that Australian
farmers are struggling to provide enough food for the global market, and clean water for irrigation is
as important as ever. In Australia, agriculture is the largest consumer of water, representing around
70% of our total annual water consumption. Australia is a major exporter of food, particularly wheat
and beef, to the rest of the world. In 2009, 60% of Australia s agricultural produce was exported
overseas. Overall meat production is expected to double by 2050, meaning that even more pressure
will be put on the Australian meat industry. Recent droughts have meant that less water has been
allocated to irrigating crops,

Techniques of Interrogation
Techniques of Interrogation
One of the best training programs to implement into the police department is the Reid interrogation
techniques. Interrogation and interviewing techniques became popular in 1947 by John E. Reid and
Associates. Joseph P. Buckley stated that The Reid Technique of Interviewing and Interrogation is
now the most widely used approach to question subjects in the world (Buckley P. J., 2000). There
three parts to the Reid process for solving a crime. The first stage that should be taking is to collect
and analyze relative information from the crime scene thing that offers insight to the possible suspect
and determine the direction an investigation should take. The second stage of the process interviewing
people of interest using Behavior Analysis Interview (BAI) (Buckley P. J., 2000). The Behavior
Analysis Interview is a non accusatory process that allows detectives to interview a suspect using a
question and answer procedure to provoke a suspect to show non verbal truthfulness or deception. The
third stage, if the offender has not admitted to the crime an accusatory interrogation is administered
(Leave no marks, 2007). The Reid interrogation technique is believed to be a fail proof technique
,however, there are some reservations against using this technique on juvenile offenders
(Constitutional Law(n.d). Implementing the Reid technique into the police departments learning
curriculum will truly

Essay on The My Lai Massacre
On March 16, 1968 a terrible massacre occurred at My Lai, called The My Lai Massacre. The
following massacre should have never happened and the event s that followed the massacre are typical
of any American wrongdoing. That s why it wasn t in my US History book. They covered it up and the
people involved in the massacre received no punishment except for one soldier. My US History book:
The Story of America Volume 2 doesn t even touch on this dark moment in US history. The closest
that they come to my topic is the eight pages about the Vietnam War. Within these pages they talked
about Nixon being elected to presidency in 1968. He received 43 percent of the popular vote only 1
less than Humphrey. He ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Captain Ernest Medina ordered the Charlie Company, Task Force Baker, Eleventh Brigade of the
Americal Division, to search and destroy My Lai. My Lai is a small village located on the coast of
Vietnam, near the South China Sea. Lt. William Calley led 150 fully armed and ready soldiers into
Son My villiage to destory the hamlet called My Lia. But it wasn t clear as what to do with any
civilians they encountered
(The My Lai Massacre). The Charlie Company soldiers were brought by helicopter (Gettleman). The
soldiers entered My Lai expecting fierce combat with a Viet Cong battalion believed to be at My Lai.
For the past three months the American unit had been in no major battles but had suffered a lot of
casualties from snipers, mines, and booby traps. The soldiers were ready to prove themselves, ready to
exact revenge on the enemy (The My Lai Massacre).
The Charlie Company soldiers met no Viet Cong soldiers though. Then William Calley ordered the
slaughter of the civilians of My Lai. This should have never happened just because you don t find the
enemy doesn t give you the right to kill the villagers. Also the inhumane way they killed these
villagers which were mostly elderly woman and men and children. The following is a few of the ways
they killed the villagers
According to eyewitness reports offered after the event, several old men were bayoneted and praying

Introduction
Carnival Cruise Line was found in the United States by Ted Arison in 1972, it is based in Miami,
Florida. Now it is one of the nine cruise ships that own 21.1 % of the worldwide market share. The
main control of the Carnival Cruise line is located in Doral, Florida.
This cruise line is relatively inexpensive and popular for a Las Vegas style decoration and
entertainment. Carnival Company became one of the largest ships in the world in 1996. In 2001,
Robert Dickinson participated in a BBC documentary. In 2004 Carnival Corporation began a
development programs for new ships. In 2009 Company placed one of the largest boats named
Carnival Dream. Following that the company placed Carnival Magic that was the same as Carnival
Dream in 2011. In 2012 the Carnival Cruise Company ordered another ship from Fincantieri. It was
the largest ships that it was build by them.
Reasons why Carnival paid hardly any United States taxes
Many companies are trying to avoid taxes and have a higher profits that is exactly what Carnival
Cruise Line does, and it pays about 1% tax rate of their total income.
One of the reasons is that Carnival is incorporated in Panama and Britain even though their
headquarters are in Miami, Florida. The Company can ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is not always easy to decide whether to pay taxes or not. One of the blocker, Steve Smith said that
he takes all the legal deduction he could possibly be allowed when he fills his income tax return. He
also said he does not consider himself bad or unethical for doing that. I agree with him on this matter I
think we take all the deduction we can. In this situation, the interesting thing is that Carnival
Corporation is just follow the laws. The company does not take anything away from government or
people. Carnaval Company does everything possible to be profitable and give people what they
possible can. It is quite impossible to stay in business with 35% tax

Clare Gay Rights
In recent years, there has been a surge of queer representation in popular media. Whether or not this
representation accurate and positive is another question, but the fact that queer visibility has increased
is inarguable. According to this Salon article, supporting gay rights is good for business (Kelley). In
the article, Kelley discusses the move by companies to publicly show their support for LGBT rights,
and how this motion is not brave, as much as it is financially beneficial. As we progress further along
in the movement for queer rights, more and more companies hop on the bandwagon, because being
progressive is profitable. For many of these companies, to say anything unsupportive about the LGBT
community will cause an outcry from ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Should straight authors stop writing queer characters and relationships for fear of misrepresenting
them? While that may be effective in stopping the misrepresentation, that line of thinking will not
solve the problem. Queer authors will still lack a voice in the writing community, and the issue will be
taken back to square one. One solution would be to further educate straight writers on how to write
queer characters, and the dangers of mishandling them. Most non queer authors have wonderful
intentions of being inclusive, but their works fall short because of the unfamiliarity with the subject
matter. A better solution would be to provide an efficient platform for queer voices to write about their
own experiences and communities. Queer authors should be promoted better so their work is seen
rather than cast off to the side for what straight audiences find appealing in terms of seeing onscreen
gay characters. And this includes queer women and trans people who are so often overlooked, even
within the queer literature community. Gay male characters have a grip on the queer scene, largely
influenced by straight female audiences who have no idea of the harm they cause to actual gay

Different Sources of Variation in Marriage and Mating...
Marriage is a fundamental practice that influences village dynamics and political processes in many
societies in past and present human cultures. Not only is marriage a process that supports human
kinship systems, it allows for alliances and reciprocity systems between groups that create variation in
human social organization (Walker et al. 2011). This paper explores the sources of variation in
marriage and mating systems in two very different societies, the !Kung San and the Yanomamo, in
terms of the vastly different environments each of them inhabit. The !Kung San, a traditional nomadic
hunter gatherer society, reside in the Dobe area on the edge of the Kalahari desert of Botswana
(Shostak 1981, p.7). Due to the demanding environment of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

This imbalance is further intensified due to raids and warfare caused by the lack of women, resulting
in the abduction of marriageable women from other villages, often resulting in hostilities between
groups and fueling warfare (Chagnon 2009, p.190).
Choosing an in law in !Kung San society is primarily arranged by the parents of the woman based on
marital status, hunting ability, age, and willingness to accept the responsibilities of family life
(Shostak 1981, p.116). The lack of violence and conflict between villages allows !Kung San parents to
travel large distances to find an acceptable partner who is not of close relatedness to the girl being
married (Shostak 1981, p.115). The almost universal taboo in modern day industrial societies
prohibiting marriages between closely related kin is also followed in !Kung San society and the easiest
way to avoid marrying your cousin is by marrying someone from a distant group (Shostak 1981,
p.115; Allen et al. 2011). Close kinship systems tend to keep families close together so they can all
benefit off the same resources. However, in harsh and unpredictable environments, like that faced by
the !Kung, flexibility of movement created by non consanguineous unions and bilateral kinship
systems is essential in creating reciprocity systems that allow access to resources that are limiting and
seasonal (Allen et al. 2011). Non consanguineous

Proposal For Higher Education
Current Research
Current research over student debt and its burden has allowed an insight and analyzation over the
government s role in higher education at the federal, state, and local level. Through data of institution
cost efficiency and inefficiency, tax exporting, and the backgrounds of student borrowers,
policymakers and can create a visual representation of the importance of state allocations towards
higher education.
Government matters. A study done by Sav (2016), explores the decreases in state and federal Pell
Grant funding for public colleges in the United States whose funding decreased from 32% to 23%
from 2004 2013. Sav s study concluded that state funding appropriations contributed significantly to
the higher education ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Second, it is crucial that the states, rather than the federal government solely, play a more concrete
role in reducing the burden for millions of student borrowers. Third, policymakers should take into
consideration the dynamics and backgrounds of the student body in higher education institutions when
considering appropriations.
Collective Themes
Several themes and elements are recurrent in this research of college affordability. Federalism
concerns add fuel to the debate of the role of government in higher education policymaking. Ethical,
equity, economic, and political issues arise that divide citizens between considering higher education a
public or a private good, whether it has economic benefits, and whether it is worth taxpayer dollars.
The themes are consistent through the perspectives of the history, media, government enactments,
public opinion, political parties, interest groups and research.
Federalism
The relationship between the national government and state governments has changed and expanded
immensely (Kraft Furlong, 2015). How does the issue of rising tuition, high student loan interests, and
student debt detail federalism? The authority of each level of government is questioned in education
policy. How much power should the national government have over higher education?
Constitutionally, the national government only has explicitly enumerated

The Domains Of It Infrastructure
In this paper we will discuss some cases within the Seven Domains of IT infrastructure in which some
bad things that could happen. Most cases are within the possibility of reality while some are very far
out there and most likely would not happen. This is based on a Kansas Marketing Firm. The first
domain is the user domain. The most logical thing that could go wrong is that an employee could and
most likely will at some point, forget security policies and accidentally exposed the networks to
malicious files or code. This is done by uploading something off a foreign data transfer device such as
a flash drive. This could cause problems with the entire system if the malicious program is a virus. A
more non logical problem would be if a disgruntled employee purposely tries to take down the system
or steals information that is considered sensitive. While this happens it is less logical than accidently
exposure. The worst thing that could happen is that the malicious code wipes out your servers,
removes all data and causes massive production loss and most likely a loss of profit. This is countered
with strong policies and physical security to derail these problems. The second domain is the
workstation domain. The threats to this would be similar to the first domain because if a user does
something malicious on that workstation, it would affect a larger area of the domain. Another problem
is that workstations run programs that are susceptible to bugs and crashes. If

  • 2. A Student Chance At Success Vs. Low Income Schools Essay A Students Chance at Success Compared to Privileged Students Low income schools affects a students education highly because they receive a more lousy education compared to school that have more money. When I turned 12, my mom and I moved from LA to Inglewood because my mom could not pay the rent anymore. The middle school and high school around the Inglewood area were so different compared to the school I went in LA. The schools looked run down and old and the educational domain was not great for students that want to achieve good academic skills. In I Just Wanna Be Average, Mike Rose writes about how students that are not doing well, get placed in a vocational class, teachers are not well prepared to educate the students, and teachers do not know a way to engage students to learn. However in, Aria: Memoir of a Bilingual childhood, Richard Rodriguez writes about how he his teachers from his catholic school came to his house to talk to his parents because he was not contributing in class, since he did not know English very well. This indicated that compared to Roses teachers, Rodriguez s teachers wanted him to succeed and want him to engage in class. Furthermore, students or schools with low socio economic background, have a harder time achieving good educational or social skills compared to schools with high socio economic background. If people lived as equals, everyone would have a chance at being successful. Communities that have a socio economic background, have ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Action Sports and Television Essay Action Sports and Television Actions sports have always been interesting to me. The way the athletes perform their tricks, how judges score them, and how the camera operators keep up with such a fast paced competition. The more I thought of my interest in this subject, the more I wanted to know. The growth of action sports on television follows the same pattern of any other type of show genre in its early stages. Documentaries, themed shows or movies, and especially the coverage on live television would be good places to start looking into. The impact on cable television and sports channels could further delve into other questions that comes to mind, like how the public viewed them. When did corporate sponsorships begin to move the ... An example being, as skis were manufactured lighter yet still retaining their durability, people began to push their limitations based on the limitations of the equipment. Many people give credit to people considered pioneers of action sports. Rodney Mullen, Tony Hawk, Matt Hoffman, Travis Pastrana are just a few heavyweight title holders for defining what extreme sports are as well as helping to stimulate their popularity in the public eye. Television coverage of competitions has brought extreme sports and their participants more attention as well. The X Games and the Olympics are only two of many examples. Sponsorships play a huge role in any television programming. When shows of early television aired, they had live performances of a company s jingle ( Vitameatavegamin episode of I Love Lucy) and even demonstrations of exactly what it was supposed to do for the average american viewer. Cigarette ads were one of the most common, like before one the episodes of I Love Lucy we watched in class where the stick figure versions of Lucy and Desi were standing next to a large box of cigarettes and smoking one themselves. Sponsorships by tobacco companies are not around anymore on television. Companies controlling all aspects of a show are long gone and corporate sponsorships are seen plastered all over anything a company can get their hands on during air time for action sports. • 4. The House On Mango Street Summer Assignment Dillon Afenir Honors Sophomore Comp/Lit 1 September 2016 The House on Mango Street Summer Assignment 1. Identify an instance where Cisneros uses powerful imagery. Explain the effect of that imagery upon the reader. Remember that imagery can appeal to any of the senses, including sight, sound, taste, smell, or touch. Throughout The House on Mango Street, Sandra Cisneros puts plenty of examples of powerful and meaningful imagery. It helps to contribute to the overall tone and message the stories are trying to exude. In the vignette A Rice Sandwich Esperanza is sent to the headmaster s office after trying to get into a lunch line that she wasn t usually in, even when she had a letter from her mom that she was supposed to be there. The headmaster eventually becomes aware of where she lives: a rundown, raggedy house in an even worse neighborhood. The headmaster allows Esperanza to return to the canteen and began to eat. However, she is not welcomed by the other kids and is watched by lots of boys and girls... while [Esperanza] cried and ate [her] sandwich, the bread greasy and the rice cold (45). What Cisneros says really targets the visual and auditory senses. When I have read this vignette, I could visualize her looking out the window of the headmaster s office, having point out her house, and then only to return to the canteen humiliated just to be looked upon as an unusual creature. What I also picked up on is the tears and the worst looking sandwich anyone in the canteen ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The Effects Of Mercury In The Great Lakes The Effects of Mercury and its Appearance in the Great Lakes While liquid gold may be a modern allegory for something desirable, there is another liquid metal that is quite the opposite of desirable. Mercury is an unusual metal in that in its standard elemental form it is a liquid. Due to the increase in industry over the last 100 years, Mercury levels have risen, which cause serious damage to humans. There are three different chemical forms that mercury exists in and each has a specific effect on human health, however for the purpose of this paper only two will be talked about. The first is elemental mercury (Hg), which also called metallic mercury. In this form the primary health effect is when it is breathes as vapor where it can be absorbed through the lungs. Symptoms of this kind include tremors, emotional changes, insomnia, neuromuscular changes, headaches, disturbances in sensations, changes in nerve responses, and performance deficits on tests of cognitive functions. At higher doses there can be kidney effects, respiratory failure, and even death. In this form it is emitted into the air from coal fired power plants, waste incinerators, smelting plants, which is by far the leading man made source of mercury in the Great Lakes. It is released into the air and transported by air currents and will eventually fall and be deposited in soil or water. This is particularly important to the people living in Michigan because in Detroit the mercury found in rain has been ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Mursi are a people of the Omo Valley of Southwest Ethiopia between the Omo and mago rivers, they are transhumant pastoralist, who as a whole they consist of less than 10,000 people. Living in a remote and isolated place in the world they have a unique culture different from any other. This includes their customs, language, economics, food, ect. Perhaps the most well know practise of the Mursi is their use of lip plates worn by the women of the tribe. This is followed by their unique connection with the earth. And lastly the men s practise of ceremonial duel fighting or stick battling. These practises have become emblematic of their culture, and allow the Mursi to identify with one another in these aspects, and differentiate themselves from other tribes. The well known lip plates are given to a girl at 15 16 years of age and is a tradition that goes back hundreds of years. Today deciding whether or not to get a lip plate is a can be life changing to the girl. Many women decide not to get lip plates, this is to be able to attend markets with other neighboring tribes and not be discriminated against. The women of the Mursi who have lip plates are judged and ridiculed when going to markets, and outside their tribes region. However, this decision makes it less likely for a woman to become married, as the Mursi men find women with lip plates more attractive, and the fact that it is a custom that their culture holds of great value. It is not an exaggeration to say that society is an irreplaceable factor when it comes to developing a person s potential to its fullest. Indeed, a considerable number of features considered characteristics of our kind could have only been developed within the boundaries of society and are found nowhere else in the world of living organisms. However, society may not always be the best platform for the development of one s individuality. Sometimes people are not treated in a correct manner, which gives rise to social injustice. Art, in numerous forms, has been reflecting this unpleasant phenomenon for many centuries. This means that while being in prison, Andy Dufresne is forced to use experience to trick the federal tax system. In other words, a criminal, after being accused of committing a crime, is continuously forced to commit another crime. While prison is supposed to make people think about the wrong they have done, the prison in the movie forces a person to walk the path of a criminal much further than one wants to. Another aspect in which social injustice is portrayed in the movie is a scene involving one of the supporting characters: an old prison librarian named Brooks Hatlen. After spending fifty years in the prison environment, the poor man is finally set free, but he finds it extremely difficult to adapt to a society that has changed over five decades. In fact, he finds it impossible, so he hangs himself, suggesting that there is no way for him to adapt to the new world. Once again, this is a vivid example of the negative impact of prison on individuals. Society accused Brooks of committing a forbidden action and punished him for it by taking away his freedom. However, in reality, it put him in the destructive environment that gradually destroyed his personality and did not leave him a chance to become a better person (Kallen 89). • 8. The Bears Of British Columbia 1. Connor Baldwin Discusses the Bears of British Columbia As a media and public relations agent for the Canadian Province of British Columbia, Connor Baldwin has spent many years photographing the bears of the region. There are two distinct species of bear that are native to British Columbia, the Grizzly Bear and the Kermode Bear. Each of these bear species are unique, and important to the wildlife and ecology of their habitat. The Grizzly Bear, or Ursus arctos horribilus, is the second largest land based carnivore in all of North America. It has a life expectancy of twenty years, and the average male Grizzly Bear can reach an astounding three hundred fifty kilograms. While there are many bears that have the same brown coloring as the Grizzly, these are easily spotted due to their anatomy. The Grizzly Bear has a large hump or protrusion on its back, near the area of the shoulder blades. This mass of tissue and muscle helps to support the enormous front legs of the bear. Other distinctive characteristics of the Grizzly Bear include a concave snout, extremely long claws, and poor eyesight. Though dark brown is the most commonly viewed fur color, the Grizzly can be any shade from ivory to nearly black. The Kermode Bear, also known as the Ghost Bear or Spirit Bear, is a cultural symbol for the British Columbia Province. This white bear, is actually a black bear that carries a recessive gene. The department of child Protective Services withholds a wide range of services and responsibilities that include, investigating reports of abuse and neglect of children, provide services to children and families in their homes, providing services to help youth in foster care successfully transition to adulthood and helping children find adoption. There are many subdivisions within the department itself which offers different amenities during an open case with CPS, although these services solely justify the department, there is a unit known as Family Based Services or also FBSS which focuses on resources that will strengthen the family s privation in order to ensure child safety and wellbeing. The Department predominantly benefits from task groups rather than treatment groups, because the department is on deadlines with each individual case, a treatment group would not benefit for the departments ultimate value which is Family Reunification. If the department is involved with a family for too long this may cause emotional distress on the children as well as the family. Every year in the United States, more than one out of every hundred children are victims of substantiated child abuse and neglect. There are three parts to this section. Initially, all the furniture and fixtures (toilet, sinks not attached to walls) need to be removed. Depending on the quantity/size of furniture/fixtures that need to be removed, contractors will typically charge between $15 and $50 per hour. Customers can cut out this cost if they agree to have the items removed prior to the contractor arriving. However, if it is agreed upon and the items are not removed, the contractor will usually charge 150% of the normal rate, because this will add additional time to the job, causing him to possibly run behind schedule for another job, and he schedules jobs based on time estimates. The next part is the removal and disposal of the existing floor. The price for this can range from $25 to $75 per hour, based on the type of flooring being removed. Carpet and vinyl are easy to remove, thus would be on the low end. Tile is more difficult because mortar is used to install it and all of that has to be broken up and removed. The final part of this phase is repairing the subfloor. Costs for this repair vary greatly on what needs to be repaired, and are usually ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Assignment #1: Policy and Implications Paper Mary Marrone USC School of Social Work January 29, 2016 Section One: Choose and Research a Policy Introduction At the president s inaugural, the 2010 National Drug Control Strategy presented an evidence based practice that addressed reducing drug use and eliminating its consequences in the United States (National Drug Control Strategy, 2013). The president responded by having his administration draft the third way in drug policy, which rejects taking extreme measures on drug addicts and in criminalizing them, also minimizing the United States participation in the war on drugs (National Drug Control Strategy, 2013). This policy hopes to take a nuance approach on drug policy as it aims to balance public health programs, effective law enforcement, and international partnerships. After all we are in the twenty first century, where forward thinking is highly commendable and very much needed. The third way is rooted in the belief that drug addiction is a disease and causes grave damage to the brain (National Drug Control Strategy, 2013). Therefore it is true that one can seek treatment in hopes of recovery for his/her disease or one has the ability to completely prevent them from acquiring the disease of addiction. This policy is believed to represent the future of drug policy not only nationally, but globally as well (National Drug Control Strategy, 2013). History/Evolution of the Policy The ... Moreover, the unusual brutalities that people are inevitable confronted with in life. In a world of calamity, Gay has created poems that portray the corporal conforming to gender and sex but also human development. Using a reader response criticism lens, I will be demonstrating my interpretation of Ross Gay s poems and the meaning that I believe to be a common interpretation of his work. Within, Gay s poems, It Starts at Birth and Angels Out of Reach one is able to see a pattern of human transformation. By experiencing pain, love, loss, fear, and wisdom one is able to see Gay s characters evolve through the narrators and readers gaze. In doing so, one is able to reflect on Gay s poems and gain wisdom themselves. Gay s poem It Starts at Birth demonstrates a title that starts at the establishment of ones life, while portraying new experiences, that one gains while enduring life. • 17. The Pros And Cons Of Volunteer Fire Departments Volunteer fire departments everywhere have staffing problems. If you take a drive past any fire department you will probably see a volunteers needed sign. A fire chief in Pennsylvania stated I would like to have a greater turnout of firefighters on scene than what we currently have, he said. We have a lack of volunteers who are able to respond during daytime hours (Shawgo, 2014, p. 17). There are several reason that there is not as good of a turnout as there used to be. Back in the 1970s and 1980s the thing to do in town was to hang out at the fire house. There was not as much going on as there is today. People today want to spend more time with their family and go out to the movies or mini golfing, things that family s did not do as much back in the day. The average amount of training that a volunteer must go through is about 130 hours. Most people see that as too much time to sacrifice. Also, in today s economy many people work a second or even third job in order to make ends meet. There are also more single parent households then there used to be, which does not allow for hardly any time to volunteer. Due to the reasons stated above it is very difficult to properly staff fire trucks in volunteer departments. The average age of members continues to increase. The few people left who still find time to volunteer often work a regular job during the day, which makes day time emergency calls even harder to respond to with proper staffing. The Underdogs By Mariano Azuela The classic Willie Nelson and Waylon Jennings song Mammas, Don t Let Your Babies Grow Up to Be Cowboys tells the sad, but familiar story of men growing up and leaving their families for reasons they do not fully comprehend. It is the women, however, in the novel The Underdogs, by Mariano Azuela, that understand this all too well. In The Underdogs, the author depicts Northern Mexican villages overrun by the Mexican Revolution sending impromptu soldiers to fight the war, leaving few citizens left behind with essentially nothing. Azuela paints a picture of the tremendous pressure put on the citizens of Northern Mexico during the Revolution and we see this through his descriptions of massive casualties and families feeling incredible pain due to the absence of their loved ones everyday. Azuela uses this wartime atmosphere to describe how important women in Mexico were at this time and their significance during the Mexican Revolution. Although degradation and manipulation of women are quite obvious themes throughout the story, we see that the women of Mexico played a major role in the Mexican Revolution, whether they fought in the battles themselves, or were just a fading memory in a soldier s mind. To fully understand the significance of women and their treatment in this time, one must first understand the tension going on in the region. Pancho Villa, the leader of the Mexican revolutionist, proclaimed himself as the military governor of the state of Chihuahua, a state in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The scientific name of saccharin is 2 benzothiazol 1,1,3 trione. Saccharin is used as an artificial sweetener as even though only a small amount of it is used, it is as sweet as sugar when used in large amount. This concept which leads many people to have the belief that it is healthier to use artificial sweeteners such as saccharin compared to sugar. Saccharin was first discovered by Constantin Fahlberg, a chemist working on coal tar derivatives in the year 1897. One night, after a day of laboratory work, Fahlberg sat down to dinner. He picked up a roll with his hand and bit into a remarkably sweet crust. Fahlberg realised that he had accidentally spilled an experimental compound over his hands earlier that day. He ran back to laboratory, where he tasted everything on his worktable all the vials, beakers, and dishes he used for his experiments. Finally he found the source: an overboiled beaker in ... Newsworthiness of Child Abuse Cases Society is now what Downing, Mohammadi and Mohammadi (1990) would call a media culture , this is where the perceptions and images of reality are often shaped by the actions and decisions of news editors and producers (Surrette, 1992). The role of the media according to O Shaughnessy and Stadler (2008) is to give the public an insight on what is happening in the world and to make sense of that information to the public. The main focus of this essay will be looking two main concepts which are newsworthiness and the dark figure of crime, relating 5 news articles that are centred around child abuse that have featured in the New Zealand Herald and stuff.co.nz. The media plays an important role in society by creating and shaping society s attitudes about most current issues including child abuse. In New Zealand, as well as in the international media, the physical abuse of a child regularly features in the newspapers, magazines, radio and television (Merchant, 2010). When it comes to the public understanding of child abuse, this is influenced by the knowledge that they gain through reading newspapers or mass media like the television or radio. Kitzinger (2004) states that our individual view and sense of the world are a social construct and the media are an important resource to help us construct that world view. The way that child abuse is reported in the media has become what you would call entertainment where there seems to be an incline towards dramatising child abuse in a ... Healthcare executives must be equipped with the proper skills in order to be effective leaders in the field. Dye and Garman (2006) highlight various critical competencies all healthcare executives should harness in order to be influential leaders in their present or future leadership role. Some competences may come natural to individuals, while others have to be developed and strengthened over time. Leaders are faced with challenges such as ethical dilemmas, budgetary cuts and organizational restructuring. Furthermore they are also responsible for sustaining employee morale, being a visionary and a role model within their respective agencies. However, the key to their success in being an effective leader is based upon a foundation of the ability to influence and an understanding of their ethical approach to decision making (Grenny, Patterson, Maxfield, McMillan Switzler, 2013). Based upon what I have learned throughout the course, I define influential leadership as an individuals ability to affect their team positively through motivation and inspiration to achieve organizational outcomes. In the second amendment from the Bill of Rights, the founding fathers wrote that A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed. This gives anyone (as long as they are not a convicted criminal) the unalienable right to possess a firearm. In a democracy, we should not have to justify owning a gun. Most notedly, it has taken effect in such areas such as the media, academia, and industry. In these areas, employees, students, or any subject in question may be put to the test of whether or not their views are in line with politically correct guidelines. However, freshwater, what we drink, bathe in, irrigate our farm fields with makes up only 3% of the world s water, and two thirds of that is stored in frozen glaciers or unavailable for our use. Many of the water systems that keep ecosystems thriving and feed a growing human population have become stressed. Rivers, lakes and aquifers are drying up or becoming too polluted to use. Already, 80 countries suffer from water shortages that threaten health and economies while 40 percent of the world more than 2 billion people does not have access to clean water or sanitation We usually associate water shortages with a lack of drinking water, but global water scarcity has a critical impact on food security. Agriculture consumes more water than any other source. Climate change is altering patterns of weather around the world, causing shortages and droughts in some areas and floods in others. Water is key to food security. Crops and livestock need water to grow. Agriculture requires large quantities of water for irrigation and various production processes. Water scarcity may limit food production and supply, putting pressure on food prices and increasing countries dependence on food imports Less water means farming and other crops that need water to grow have lower yield. Water is needed to ensure food security, to feed livestock, and to conserve the biodiversity and environment. Australia With the growing population of the world, demand for food is increasing. This means that Australian farmers are struggling to provide enough food for the global market, and clean water for irrigation is as important as ever. • 43. Techniques of Interrogation Techniques of Interrogation One of the best training programs to implement into the police department is the Reid interrogation techniques. Interrogation and interviewing techniques became popular in 1947 by John E. Reid and Associates. Joseph P. Buckley stated that The Reid Technique of Interviewing and Interrogation is now the most widely used approach to question subjects in the world (Buckley P. J., 2000). There three parts to the Reid process for solving a crime. The first stage that should be taking is to collect and analyze relative information from the crime scene thing that offers insight to the possible suspect and determine the direction an investigation should take. The second stage of the process interviewing people of interest using Behavior Analysis Interview (BAI) (Buckley P. J., 2000). The Behavior Analysis Interview is a non accusatory process that allows detectives to interview a suspect using a question and answer procedure to provoke a suspect to show non verbal truthfulness or deception. The third stage, if the offender has not admitted to the crime an accusatory interrogation is administered (Leave no marks, 2007). The Reid interrogation technique is believed to be a fail proof technique ,however, there are some reservations against using this technique on juvenile offenders (Constitutional Law(n.d). • 46. Clare Gay Rights In recent years, there has been a surge of queer representation in popular media. Whether or not this representation accurate and positive is another question, but the fact that queer visibility has increased is inarguable. According to this Salon article, supporting gay rights is good for business (Kelley). In the article, Kelley discusses the move by companies to publicly show their support for LGBT rights, and how this motion is not brave, as much as it is financially beneficial. Should straight authors stop writing queer characters and relationships for fear of misrepresenting them? While that may be effective in stopping the misrepresentation, that line of thinking will not solve the problem. Queer authors will still lack a voice in the writing community, and the issue will be taken back to square one. One solution would be to further educate straight writers on how to write queer characters, and the dangers of mishandling them. Most non queer authors have wonderful intentions of being inclusive, but their works fall short because of the unfamiliarity with the subject matter. A better solution would be to provide an efficient platform for queer voices to write about their own experiences and communities. Queer authors should be promoted better so their work is seen rather than cast off to the side for what straight audiences find appealing in terms of seeing onscreen gay characters. And this includes queer women and trans people who are so often overlooked, even within the queer literature community. Gay male characters have a grip on the queer scene, largely influenced by straight female audiences who have no idea of the harm they cause to actual gay ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 47. Different Sources of Variation in Marriage and Mating... Marriage is a fundamental practice that influences village dynamics and political processes in many societies in past and present human cultures. Not only is marriage a process that supports human kinship systems, it allows for alliances and reciprocity systems between groups that create variation in human social organization (Walker et al. 2011). This paper explores the sources of variation in marriage and mating systems in two very different societies, the !Kung San and the Yanomamo, in terms of the vastly different environments each of them inhabit. The !Kung San, a traditional nomadic hunter gatherer society, reside in the Dobe area on the edge of the Kalahari desert of Botswana (Shostak 1981, p.7). Due to the demanding environment of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This imbalance is further intensified due to raids and warfare caused by the lack of women, resulting in the abduction of marriageable women from other villages, often resulting in hostilities between groups and fueling warfare (Chagnon 2009, p.190). Choosing an in law in !Kung San society is primarily arranged by the parents of the woman based on marital status, hunting ability, age, and willingness to accept the responsibilities of family life (Shostak 1981, p.116). The lack of violence and conflict between villages allows !Kung San parents to travel large distances to find an acceptable partner who is not of close relatedness to the girl being married (Shostak 1981, p.115). The almost universal taboo in modern day industrial societies prohibiting marriages between closely related kin is also followed in !Kung San society and the easiest way to avoid marrying your cousin is by marrying someone from a distant group (Shostak 1981, p.115; Allen et al. 2011). Close kinship systems tend to keep families close together so they can all benefit off the same resources. However, in harsh and unpredictable environments, like that faced by the !Kung, flexibility of movement created by non consanguineous unions and bilateral kinship systems is essential in creating reciprocity systems that allow access to resources that are limiting and seasonal (Allen et al. 2011). Second, it is crucial that the states, rather than the federal government solely, play a more concrete role in reducing the burden for millions of student borrowers. Third, policymakers should take into consideration the dynamics and backgrounds of the student body in higher education institutions when considering appropriations. Collective Themes Several themes and elements are recurrent in this research of college affordability. Federalism concerns add fuel to the debate of the role of government in higher education policymaking. Ethical, equity, economic, and political issues arise that divide citizens between considering higher education a public or a private good, whether it has economic benefits, and whether it is worth taxpayer dollars. The themes are consistent through the perspectives of the history, media, government enactments, public opinion, political parties, interest groups and research. Federalism The relationship between the national government and state governments has changed and expanded immensely (Kraft Furlong, 2015). How does the issue of rising tuition, high student loan interests, and student debt detail federalism? The authority of each level of government is questioned in education policy. • 50. The Domains Of It Infrastructure In this paper we will discuss some cases within the Seven Domains of IT infrastructure in which some bad things that could happen. Most cases are within the possibility of reality while some are very far out there and most likely would not happen. This is based on a Kansas Marketing Firm. The first domain is the user domain. The most logical thing that could go wrong is that an employee could and most likely will at some point, forget security policies and accidentally exposed the networks to malicious files or code. This is done by uploading something off a foreign data transfer device such as a flash drive. This could cause problems with the entire system if the malicious program is a virus. A more non logical problem would be if a disgruntled employee purposely tries to take down the system or steals information that is considered sensitive. While this happens it is less logical than accidently exposure. The worst thing that could happen is that the malicious code wipes out your servers, removes all data and causes massive production loss and most likely a loss of profit. This is countered with strong policies and physical security to derail these problems. The second domain is the workstation domain. The threats to this would be similar to the first domain because if a user does something malicious on that workstation, it would affect a larger area of the domain. Another problem is that workstations run programs that are susceptible to bugs and crashes. If ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
