A Literary Analysis Of Dsire s Baby By Kate Chopin
A Literary Analysis of Désirée s Baby Désirée s Baby , a short story written by Kate Chopin, delves
straightaway into serious matters one such example is the racial and gender injustices that occurred
during the era of slavery. The plot follows the life of a young woman, Désirée, from her mysterious
and unknown origins to being the wife of a wealthy aristocrat. Her life is suddenly shattered when she
realizes that, to her horror, her son s features resemble the ones of the race that is cursed with the
brand of slavery . Chopin uses many literary devices throughout her text, such as setting, symbolism,
theme, and irony to illustrate to her readers how inherent prejudices, be they of race or gender,
negatively affect all factions involved in the respective affair, rather than only those deemed inferior.
Firstly, Chopin establishes the setting in the southern state of Louisiana sometime before the Civil
War. This historical setting affects the thinking and beliefs of majority of the characters in the short
story. Armand no longer loved his wife simply because of the unconscious injury she had brought
upon his home and his name . That is, Armand did not care for his wife and child because he believed
and considered them to be an inferior race. The idea that he brought blacks into his home and made
them his family not only disgusted him, but brought him shame. Another aspect that characterized the
setting was the use of the word bayou , a common Louisiana word. In the end

Dunkin Donuts Case
Dunkin Donuts is a global company dealing in coffeehouses and donuts that has its roots in the USA.
It was founded by William Rosenberg in the year 1950 in the locality of Quincy in Massachusetts. It is
currently based in Canton in Massachusetts. The company is a very relatable success story since it has
been able to grow over the years and becoming one of the greatest and most loved stop for coffee and
baked goods. Furthermore, it has over 12,000 outlets in 36 countries across the world. The donuts
company most common chain of products are bagels, coffee, donuts and a variety of both iced and hot
beverages. The primary competitor for this company is Starbucks followed by the Honey Dew Donuts
Company (Rangaswamy, 2007). This essay is going to discuss into detail the effects of globalization
and technology on Dunkin Donuts, determine how the company could earn above average returns
using industrial organization and resource based models, the impact of mission and vision statements
and lastly, how all types of stakeholders affect the company s performance.
First off, globalization has increased the global presence of the company. The company has been
proudly serving its customers in over 3100 stores in the USA only for over 40 years now. Furthermore,
going global and opening outlets in 36 other countries has

A Theoretical Perspective On Organisational Socialisation
Introduction Individuals spend their lives trying to fit in. Fit into their family roles, fit into their circle
of friends and fit into their workplaces. Being a part of a group, a team or an organisations provides a
sense of comfort and belonging. Furthermore, it instills confidence to carry out respective roles
efficiently. The process by which individuals incorporate themselves into society and into
organisations is defined as socialisation (Jablin 2001). Socialisation theories usually focus on paid
workers and their experiences within an organisation (Miller 2012). What they fail to consider is that
volunteers within an organisation are also equally important and in need of the same guidance and
knowledge that paid workers are provided with. Kramer (2010) brings volunteers to the forefront
stating that volunteers are an equal asset to an organisation, especially in the Non profit sector. The
purpose of this research is to explore the process of socialisation among volunteers in a Non profit
organisation. The paper will provide a theoretical perspective on Organisational Socialisation in terms
of its definition and its process. It will then examine how a particular volunteer socialisation process is
applicable in the case of a unique project conducted by a Non profit organisation. Background The
International Society is a Non profit organisation in Manchester that supports international students in
enhancing their experience while studying in the United Kingdom. It

Day Before Thanksgiving
It s funny how things can seem one way, and really be something very different. During fifth grade,
just before Thanksgiving break, I was sitting in a middle school assembly. I was reading something off
of the screen, and my teacher asked me why I was squinting. I shrugged and thought nothing of it for a
while. A week later, I was sitting in her class, and I had to ask about what was on the board. I don t
remember what it was, but it was something pretty simple. She was confused because I was a strong
science student, but she started to explain it nonetheless. I told her that I was wondering what was ON
the board, and before I knew it I was at a vision screening. I filled out a form, and a woman with
coiffed blond hair was placing my eyes into ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I was spacing out, and I was in a really thoughtful mood. I realized that life is only what you make of
it. You can be horrified by something, but if you adopt the right attitude, it can make you incredibly
happy. Our very existence is really nothing more than a collection of thoughts, memories, experiences
that allow us to visualize our world. The world can be a dark, murky place, but you can put it through
a lens, and with the right tools you can see beauty in the darkest of hours. I can no longer recognize
faces or landscapes without glasses (everything just turns into a big blobby mess), but once I put on
my glasses, I can see all of the beautiful wonders of the world, of life, of nature. I can see that I m
getting really deep and philosophical, and so I can back away with a fact. The human body is
bioluminescent, which means that, like a firefly, you are a shining beacon of light! Sadly, that light is
far too weak to be visible and it disperses. But with the appropriate tools, you can see the light that

The online shopping players can then develop strategies, to increase a loyal customer base by focusing
on the identified factors.
Objective
The objective of the research is to identify critical factors which affect online shopping experience the
most.
Literature review
According to Tauber (1972), experiences are an important part of consuming and shopping. Shoppers
are not always simply looking to buy products, but also want to get pleasure from the shopping
activity. This experience is affected by the customer s shopping goals, what they expect, and what
their motivations are (Demangeot Broderick, 2006).
Motivation for shopping online is an important factor to consider when analysing the shopping
experience (Swatman Chin, 2004). Holbrook and Hirschman (1982) established that it is highly
important to create hedonic significance through good experiences in order to toughen up the
relationships with consumers. Customer experience involves engaging several of the customer s
aptitudes to satisfy and create value while he interacts with the organisation, its products and its other
customers. Similarly, an online retailer s role is to establish an appropriate environment to help
customers in gaining a positive experience while shopping online (Pentina et al., 2011). When people
shop online, they are not only consumers but also users of the computer (Demangeot Broderick,

Rfid Ethical Issues
Ethical Issues of the RFID Technology
Topic Description
For this policy paper I have chosen Radio frequency identification (RFID) technology. RFID is able to
provide a lot of advantages in the supply chain management, health care system, government
operations. RIFD uses electronic magnetic fields for automatically identifying and tracking the tags
attached with the objects. The tags contain electronic information. The RFID devices consist of an
antenna which emits a radio signals for activating a tag and read and write the electronic data to those.
The technology is able to provide a lot of advantages to the users but there are several ethical
considerations associated with the use of this technology. Mostly the ethical issues are associated

DDT As Portrayed In Silent Spring By Rachel Carson
According to the World Health Organization, Malaria has over 500 million cases and 2.7 million
deaths every year with it being endemic in 91 countries. Dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane, or DDT, is
an insecticide that was used for years before there was a huge backlash over the effects on the
environment from the mass usage that culminated in a total ban in the United States in the early
1970s; it also takes down the populations of insects that carry Malaria and other illnesses like it. The
book that started the controversy, Silent Spring by Rachel Carson, stated that DDT could cause
cancers and kill humans while no human deaths have ever been officially linked to DDT. The actual
fears over DDT were the environmental consequences of spraying ... Show more content on

This was very effective but the issue arose that there was virtually no limitation on the use of the so
called carcinogen. Currently, somewhere around 14 countries use DDT to fight malaria and it is
helping. There are still huge death tolls due to malaria alone (as seen here using an older algorithm)
and other insect borne illnesses can be eradicated, as news outlets like to call it when they are so rare
that they are almost impossible to get. Not only is it effective at killing mosquitoes but it is also cheap
to use as it only costs around $1.44 per year for one household. This brings me to my next point, the
proper usage of DDT in the modern age is to use very small amounts indoors instead of massive
amounts everywhere, as is the American way. We managed to make malaria one of the most difficult
things to catch in the western hemisphere with DDT and responsible usage can do it again with less
dramatic side effects. With both cost and efficiency being the most important factors in most large
quantity buyouts there are very few reasons not to accept it as a solution to an endemic disease that
affects seemingly exclusively

What Makes Fermat s Last Theorem
Fermat s Last Theorem
The year is 1637. Pierre de Fermat sits in his library, huddled over a copy of Arithmetica written by
the Greek mathematician Diaphantus in the third century A. D. Turning the page, Fermat comes across
the Pythagorean equation:
x 2 + y 2 = z 2. He leans back in his chair to think and wonders if this property is limited to the power
of two only. He bends over the book again, scanning ahead through the pages to look for any clues.
Suddenly, he begins writing intensely in the margin: It is impossible for a cube to be written as a sum
of two cubes, or for a fourth power to be written as the sum of two fourth powers or, in general, for
any number which is a power greater than the second to be written as a ... Show more content on

His peers, both contemporary and future, recognized his amazing talent: leading mathematical
historian of the twentieth century, E. T. Bell, labeled him Prince of Amateurs . Author Julian Coolidge
excluded him from his work Mathematics of Great Amateurs because Fermat was so really great that
he should count as a professional. He had a habit of jotting down his work and thoughts as notes in
margins or on napkins and omitting any formal proof. Fermat claimed to have derivations for all of his
notes these cryptic comments were theorems for him but only conjectures for the rest of the
mathematical community. Fermat s Last Theorem, therefore, is a misnomer: it should more
appropriately be referred to as Fermat s Last Conjecture! In 1670, five years after Fermat s death, his
observations including a vaguely outlined proof for n=4 showing no whole number solutions for the
equation x 4 + y 4 = z4 were published by one of his sons, Clement Samuel Fermat. He included them
as annotations and notes to Diaphantus Arithmetica; they are the only link to Fermat s Last Theorem
as his original copy has never been discovered.
What followed were centuries of attempts and frustrating failures, as mathematicians the world over
endeavored to challenge and solve Fermat s marginal notation. In 1718, the prominent European
mathematician Leonhard Euler proved the

Wireless Sensor nodes
Prepared by: Mukesh Mishra Date: 21/03/2016
1. Introduction
A Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) is comprised of multiple tiny devices called nodes or motes. These
are distributed spatially in an environment to monitor sense and compute data wirelessly. The role of a
sensor node is to evaluate different tasks. First, a node has to sense physical conditions and exchange
the information with other nodes after computation. Second, it plays the important role of being a
relay for different sensor nodes [1],[2],[3],[4]. These nodes can mount anywhere in the environment
[2]. With recent advancements in the field of electronics these devices are becoming cheaper and
smaller and are being employed in both indoor and outdoor environments. Applications include
agricultural monitoring, household and military surveillance, industrial automation and robotics, and
healthcare [3]. A sensor node, shown in Figure.1 is a low power device and consists of five different
components namely [5], [12]
(i) Sensing unit: comprises of two sub units: sensors and analog to digital converter (ADC). Sensors
are capable to measure electrical parameters and interface to the real world. The analog signals
produced by the sensors based on observed phenomena are converted in to digital signals by ADC.
After sampling these signals are fed into the microcontroller for processing

Enzyme Concentration And Incubation Time
The objective of this experiment was to determine if N acetyl B D hexosaminidase isolated from rat
testes exhibits Michaelis Menten kinetics. This was determined by first deciding the optimal enzyme
concentration and incubation time, 1.32*10 5 μM/mL and 60 mins, respectively. The enzyme was then
reacted with varying concentrations of 4 nitrophenyl N acetyl B D glucosamine enzyme substrate and
a Michaelis Menten plot was generated. Once it was determined that N acetyl B D hexosaminidase
follows Michaelis Menten kinetics by exhibiting a hyperbolic curve, a Lineweaver Burk plot was
generated and kinetic parameters Vmax, Km, Kcat, and Kcat/Km ratio were calculated. The
parameters Vmax, Km, Kcat, and Kcat/Km ratio were determined to be 165 μm/mL/min, 0.145 mM,
2.08*105 s 1, and 1.43*106 mM 1 s 1, respectively. N acetyl B D hexosaminidase was proven to
follow Michaelis Menten kinetics, however, the calculated enzymatic parameters did not aligned with
literature values.
INTRODUCTION
Enzyme kinetics is a field of study that allows for enzymes catalytic role within reactions to be
quantified. Quantifying enzymes catalytic role provides a means to characterize enzymes through
various lenses. Enzyme kinetics can be studied through the use of multiple kinetic parameters. Km,
Vmax, Kcat, and the ratio of Kcat/Km can be determined to accurately quantify and measure aspects
of an enzyme within a specific reaction. These parameters can further describe defining features of
enzymes such

U.s. Iranian Negotiations And The United States Essay
United States Iranian Negotiations
The Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action has been regarded as the biggest diplomatic failure in the
United States history. While this seems to be an over sensationalized statement, analyzing the dispute
system design, cross cultural negotiation, and resistance points of the deal, may shed further insight on
the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action and how the United States resolves conflict with Middle
Eastern nations.
Historical Context
The relations between the United State s and Iran were amicable throughout the post World War II. In
entering the Cold War, the United States negotiated the Baghdad Pact in which an alliance between,
Iran, Iraq, and Pakistan was formed. During this era, President Nixon encouraged the Shah of Iran to
develop a nuclear program and provided the funding to Iran s energy sector. The United States
maintained a close partnership with Iran until, the Islamic Revolution in February of 1979. The
revolution overthrew the Shah of Iran and Ruhollah Khomeini became the new supreme leader of
Iran. Immediately following the revolution, Iran engaged in a war against Iraq in the early 1980s. With
a new balance of power, tensions grew between the U.S. and Iran. During this time, Iran held 52
Americans hostage in an attempt to negotiate with the United States; however, after the Iranian
hostage crisis, the United States no longer saw Iran as an ally.
After the Iranian Revolution, Khomeini sought to increase Iran s nuclear

The Ethicality Of Genetically Modified Organisms
Science has given us lots of opportunities to change different species, and even combine them. We are
able to genetically modify plants and animals to have traits that differ from what they originally were
created with. Genetic modification is different from selective breeding. When we selectively breed
something, we decide which characteristics we want in a specific species, then select the plants that
show that. We only breed those plants, until all we get are the plants with the traits that we want to
show. This process can take up to hundreds of years. We selectively bred dogs from wolves this way.
Genetic modification, on the other hand, takes much less time than that. A GMO(Genetically Modified
Organism) is created when we insert DNA from one organism into the cell of another. The two DNA
strands fuse together, and then that organism creates more cells that have that DNA. This is how we
genetically modify fish to glow in the dark, or tomatos to resist cold temperatures. Genetically
modified organisms are helping us, and are incredible. We need them. There is controversy over
whether or not we should use GMOs, some people believe we should, and others think the opposite. ...

Because of genetic modification, we have the opportunity to do many new and interesting things to
different animals. Glowing fish, for example, are genetically modified to glow under a blacklight.
Before, clear fish have been injected with dye that stains them different colors, but when these fish
have offspring, they are clear fish. This happens because we have not altered their DNA, just added
something to their appearance. GM animals, or pets are incredible feats of work. The fact that we are
able to make a tiny pet pig or a glowing rat is

Summary of The Book of Habakkuk Essay
It is believed that the book of Habakkuk was written to Judah around the year 606 B.C., as Nineveh no

the prophet of the watchtower, he was one of the last prophets to write before the Babylonian

written as if to God, with Habakkuk asking Him questions. Among the complaints and questions that

The Ethical Concerns Involving Tobacco
The main ethical concerns involving tobacco is well known to educated Americans; however, the
ethics around the marketing aspects of tobacco, especially tobacco exposure to children, are less
talked about. Some of the early marketing decisions of tobacco can be traced back to one of the most
renowned and valuable cigarette brands in the world, Marlboro. Marlboro first emerged onto the
tobacco scene at the beginning of the nineteenth century. They originally were a cigarette brand with a
female based target market. Marlboros were considered feminine cigarettes because they had filters,
which were very unpopular for men at the time because the purpose of the filter was to protect a
woman s lipstick so that the tobacco leaves would never actually make contact with the mouth or lips.
In the 1950s a scientific study came out that linked smoking to lung cancer, and that is where the
ethical problems begin with tobacco companies. The ethical health concerns of ciggerrets were not the
only issue. Marketing right after the release of detrimental research, companies like Marlboro became
manipulative and misleading with their advertising. Advertising that also was used to target children
and establish lifetime customers. Now, in the twenty first century, the E cigarettes and other new
technology products have creates new aspects to the ethical dilemmas involving cigarettes. The ethical
dilemma of smoking, health concerns, children, and technology, will all be assessed to establish the

Important aspects of the story are unclear, namely Kahle s ability to see auras, his military background
and what his story had to do with Eli s. At times, I wondered if some details and characters were
forgotten in the course of the writing. Because of this, the story had a stilted, perfunctory quality that
made it difficult to read and confusing to navigate. It read like a first draft, not a finished product. The
end of the story never resolved the problems or questions set by the premise. I understand that this is
the first book of a series, but a clear, resolved ending is more satisfying to a reader than a blunt one.
Since Revolt of the Rats needs professional editing and a tighter rein to keep the plot on track, I would
not recommend it to readers, so I give it 2 out of 4. The editing and typesetting issues were the main
reasons I could not give this book a higher rating, but the undeveloped nature of the story took it down
another rating point. The theme of Revolt of the Rats has the potential to appeal to an audience living
in a capitalist economy and certainly will once the story is polished, professionally edited and

The Role In Inflating The Housing Bubble
Role in Inflating the Housing Bubble
The 2008 financial crisis was the most serve crisis seen since the Great Depression (Duca). There
were a number of factors that contributed to inflating the housing bubble, in which it collapsed under
its own weight (Duca).
The source that lead to inflation began in 2000, with the funding of subprime mortgages or mortgages
for individuals who had too low of credit and no down payment, with private label mortgage backed
securities (Duca). This was done because subprime mortgages are more risky, so these securities

How Did The Crusaders Influence The Byzantine Empire
Pope Urban was seeing an opening for power in the year of 1095. He had decided to help the leader of
the Byzantine Empire by killing the Turks. While the Turks are Muslim and Pop Urban is a Christian,
he wants to stay elsewhere and not around people who don t practice his same religion.
Peter the Hermit was a French monk who created an unorganized army. His 1096 army consisted of
not only soldiers, but peasants, too. Peter and his army started the People s Crusade. Peter pushed
people to fight against the Muslims for the Holy Land.
In 1097, a powerful army was constructed by the combination of the Belgium, the German, the
French, and the Italian. The army consisted of over 30,000 soldiers! The Pope made them a promise

Baldwin was the creator of the first Crusader State at Edessa. In August 1098, the crusaders reached
the Jerusalem. When Godfrey passed away, Baldwin became the first king of the Christian Kingdom.
European lords worked hard to maintain the control over the crusader states. The Holy Order of
Knights fought back when a crusader state was being charged at. Emperor Conrad III and King Louis
VII wanted to overtake Damascus rather than defending Edessa.
King Richard tried to get control of Jerusalem for one year. He decided to form a connection with his
one and only enemy, Saladin. Richard ended up making an agreement with Saladin. Their agreement
was that Christians could be allowed to go to the Holy Land and visit their worshipping shrines.
The fourth crusade did not hold as much power behind it as the others. In 1202, the crusaders made
their way to the Holy Land lead by the French Knights. On their journey, they were side tracked by the
Venetian Lords. These lords tried to convince them to take control over the Eastern Orthodox
Constantinople. The Pope was not a Greek Orthodox ruler meaning that would make him selfish to

Muscles Upper Arm
The muscles of your shoulder are strongly involved whenever you throw a punch. Your anterior
deltoids, located on the front of your shoulders, work with your pectoralis major muscles to push your
arm out towards the opponent. Once you have hit the opponent, your middle trapezius, rhomboids and
latissimus dorsi draw your arm back ready for you to throw another punch.
The Muscles of the Upper Arm
Extending your arm is down to your triceps brachii. This is located on the rear of your upper arm, and
is the powerful muscle that quickly pushes your elbow out so that you can reach your opponent. Your
biceps brachii which are located on the front of your upper arm, are responsible for bending your
elbow as you pull your arm back into your original guard position again, ready to throw more

The Continuity Of Life Chapter 1 Summary
Chapter 9 The Continuity of Life: Cellular Reproduction Summary (184)
Reproduction is important for the survival of all living things. Without a mechanism for reproduction,
life would come to an end. There are two types of reproduction to learn in elementary grades, asexual
and sexual reproduction. Many teachers are afraid of discussing reproduction, but if presented as a
factual lesson it is easy for the students to understand the principles without the standard giggles.
Asexual reproduction refers to simple cell division that produces an exact duplicate of an organism.
There are many different types of asexual reproduction which can be discussed to show students the
variability of modes of reproduction. Some single celled organisms reproduce by simple cell division,
this is called binary fission. In this manner, the mother cell simply splits in half producing two
daughter cells. Some cells reproduce by unequal division of the cells, this is called budding. In this
process the bud forms as a knob on the mother cell. The nucleus divides and identical parts go to the
mother cell and the bud. The bud may grow until it is as large as the mother cell and can form buds of
its own. In some cases buds ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Essay on The World Is Too Much for Us
In William Wordsworth s The World is Too Much With Us, this poem heeds warning to his generation.
This warning is that they are losing sight of what is actually important in this world: nature and God.
To some people both of these are the same thing ...as if lacking appreciation for the natural gifts of
God is not sin enough, we add to it the insult of pride for our rape of His land (Wordsworth). With his
words, Wordsworth makes this message perpetual and everlasting. William Wordsworth loved nature
and based many of his poems on it. He uses very strong diction to get his point and feelings across.
This poem expresses Wordsworth s feeling about nature and religion containing a melodic rhythm
(Wordsworth). Each line and each ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These lines (5 7) suggest that nature is helpless and unknown to the destruction man is doing. For this,
for everything, we are out of tune; (8) proposes that even in the spectacle of a storm, human beings
(adults) look on uncaringly implying that we, humans, don t realize the damage we are inflicting on
helpless nature (Wordsworth). The symbolism created by the images and metaphors represent
Wordsworth s deep passion about the conflict between nature and modern progress. Images and
metaphors alluding to mankind s greed, nature s innocence, and the speaker s rejection of accepted
principles all serve to illustrate the speaker s passion to save his generation (Gill). The final part, the
sestet, Wordsworth wishes that he were a pagan (a heathen) raised according to a different vision of
the world, so that, standing on this pleasant lea (Nicholas), he might see images of ancient gods rising
from the waves, a sight that would cheer him greatly. He wishes he had faith in ancient gods of nature
to extract revenge on people. Wordsworth imagines Proteus rising from the sea (Nicholas), and Triton
blowing his wreathed horn (Nicholas). His dream of these ancient gods of the sea would save nature
from man. Wordsworth, in the sestet, dramatically proposes an impossible personal solution to his
problem—he wishes he could have been born and raised as a pagan, so he could still see ancient gods

Opening new production sites or distribution centers closer to dispersed customers is one way to
reduce the lead time and transportation costs. However, the acquisition of such facilities in the oil and
petrochemical industries, if feasible, is typically very costly and often results in higher inventory and
operating costs (Hebert, 2004). Red Cavaney, president of the American Petroleum Institute, said Most
companies are unlikely to undertake the significant investment needed to even begin the process
(Hebert, 2004) These factors are pushing oil and petrochemicals companies to either absorb the
increase in costs or pass the costs on to customers who are already facing increasing prices.
Companies therefore have recognized that improved supply chain efficiencies represent a huge area
for cost savings, specifically in the logistics area; they are estimated to be an average between 10 and
20 percent of revenues (Hamilton, 2003). Also, companies believe that the supply chain in which they
participate as customers and suppliers is what creates competition rather than individual companies
(Whitfield, 2004; Lange, 2004; Morton, 2003; Bianchi, 2003; Collins, 1999; Coia, 1999). Despite the
importance of the petroleum industry in our daily life and the operational challenges it involves,
unfortunately the topic has received very little attention in operations and supply chain management

Hrm 533 Total Rewards Strategy Proposal
Abstract
This paper is provided to create, organize, and manage a total rewards program for an insurance
company. First, it indicates the requirement of a total rewards system for the company. Then, it
formulates a competitive strategy and explains it. Since the communication of a strategy is as
important as the strategy itself, the paper includes a communication plan of the strategy. And last but
not least it studies devising a competitive pay structure.
1. Create a brief overview of the company requirements for a total rewards system.
Company A is a holding company that provides financial protection, insurance and asset management
services that employs 20,000 employees in 17 different countries in Europe, North America and ...

* have employees who value individuals and their diversity, respect others and openly share
information, knowledge and views to help colleagues succeed. * act in line with its values of
professionalism, innovation, pragmatism, team spirit and integrity.
2. Formulate a total rewards strategy to encompass the fundamentals of compensation and the
regulatory environments.
A well articulated compensation philosophy drives organizational success by aligning pay and other
rewards with business strategy. It provides the foundation for plan design and administration and
anchors current and future plans to the company s culture and values (Kaplan, 2006, p.32).
Recognizing and rewarding achievement is the cornerstone of the company A s compensation
philosophy. The mission of the company is to attract, select, place and promote all individuals based
on their qualifications. The company believes that performance based compensation helps attract,
develop and retain talented professionals. In addition to base pay which based upon local market
conditions and targeted to be above market, the company provides the following types of potential
compensation to reward performance: * Annual Merit Increases (all exempt and nonexempt salaried
employees are eligible) * Annual Promotions (all exempt and nonexempt salaried employees are

reaction was successful however there are quite a few areas for improvement in this experiment to
increase the yield of the reaction. The melting point of the product was taken to be 170.7 degrees C
meaning that the product produced, despite having a low yield, was in fact acetaminophen and not p
aminophenol which would have melted at a higher temperature of 188 190 degrees C. Looking at the
TLC plate it was shown that the reaction did in fact reach completion because the final reaction
mixture eluted as far as the acetaminophen standard and not as far as the p aminophenol standard,
meaning that the acetaminophen standard and the reaction mixture had the same contents, without and

Without connection to others there is no me
Throughout our lives, everyone that we share bonds with and interact with on a regular basis, either
forms or has some sort of influence on our identity. Consequently, the majority of us naturally find
ourselves striving to fit in with these people, especially during the tough transition from childhood to
adulthood. It is this part of the human condition that makes us feel as though we must forge ties with
something outside of ourselves in order to establish a strong sense of existence and a clear
understanding of who we are. Although most individuals are able to make these connections with
others naturally, others who stray from the social norm might not be so fortunate, but rather than ...

A sense of acceptance from our familial ties and intimate relationships with others shape who we are.

The Opinion Of The Newspaper Discourse Community
Joining the newspaper discourse community was one of the greatest achievements in my high school
career and that was only possible by gaining intellect about the community, securing my place on the
team by proving myself, and by continuing to learn from my experiences.
The first step to achieving my position in this discourse community included familiarizing myself with
the intellect and style of writing that was required for journalists. In my freshman year of high school,
I took Journalism as one of my electives. This course taught the basic knowledge that comes with
journalism that includes journalistic ethics, writing, and skills. I was able to logistically prove myself
to the members of the newspaper discourse community by abiding by the ethical values of journalism.
I was able to know the difference between slander, a spoken defamatory statement, and libel, a written
defamatory statement I was successfully able avoid it in my assignments. Similarly, I studied the
Associated Press Stylebook (AP) that is a required resource to know for journalistic writing. Through
this, I was able to effectively write my assignments knowing that instead of a thesis, I will have a lead
that is thirty five words or less. I knew that my writing would vary depending on the type of story I
was assigned. For example, a news story follows a certain quote transition format to emphasize the
sources while an editorial piece would follow a different format catering to its persuasive nature.

The Fall Of The Roman Empire Analysis
In The Fall of the Roman Empire , the author Peter Heather talks about the ways the Roman empire
conquered the many territories surrounding them and how strong of an empire the Roman empire was.
He also talks about the build up of the events that caused the empire to fall. Peter also talks about the
people that helped or was involved in the build up or the collapse of the Roman empire. Peter Heather
mainly wrote this book to inform the reader of how the European barbarians got turned into enemies
through imperialism; additionally, he mentions that these Barbarians were capable of tearing apart an
empire that ruled over them for many years. Peter, also, mentions all of the battles and build ups that
occurred throughout the Barbarians reign of power and speaks mainly of the battles that they went
through. Peter s argument is that the empire did not collapse because of social or moral collapse, but
that the empire fell due to the Barbarians. There were many interesting events that occurred in The
Fall of the Roman Empire . Peter Heather speaks of many Hunnic battles; he tries to explain how
military strategical the Huns were, and he also talks about the battles, due to the fact that the Huns
begin to become an issue with Roman Empire. He speaks of these battles because they had such a
large effect on the collapse of the Roman Empire. Peter mentions the Battle of Hadrianople; this battle
was when the Goths defeated their first Roman army. The battle made the Goths

Advanced Methodology With Response Surface Methodology Essay
Robust design (RD) based on the concept of building and improving quality into a design has been
paid much attention by researchers and practitioners for years, and a number of approaches have been
introduced in the literature. There exist many research attempts to integrate RD methodology with
response surface methodology (RSM). The three level full factorial design embedded higher order
polynomial models may be more useful in order to obtain better RD solutions than the second order
model. In this paper, we propose a dual response surface approach based on higher order polynomial
models in order to optimize the process bias and standard deviation responses at the same time while
the process mean is restricted by the lower and upper specification limits. We also discuss why the
three level full factorial design is preferred over the other second order designs, such as the traditional
central composite design, with higher polynomial models. In addition, the significance levels of the
model fittings are sought out by the model selection procedure. A numerical example is given to
illustrate the superiority of the proposed approach, as compared with the traditional methods.
In many quality engineering applications, the objective is to determine the relationship between the
controllable input variables, xi, and a quality characteristic, y. Several designs are available in the
literature for fitting first , second or higher order polynomial models over spherical or cuboidal

the oppression of the traditional ruling government or to have a new individually based era reign over
Spain. Being a homosexual male inside such difficult times, Lorca was in favor for change. He wrote
this play using a real life event that he read in the newspaper about a bride that ran away with the son
of an enemy family. The events he read and the events in the play are a time capsule of the emotions
distributed by both those for and those against change in Spain. Lorca s use of lyrical phrasing and
supernatural phenomena masks the true ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Act Two when Mother states: As bull s go, my son will be a good worker. (39). She is personifying
the need of war. The Spanish government remained willing to fight for what the predecessors of Spain
created which is the same as Groom willing to work hard to please Bride s father and his mother. ...I
would have kept that blood soaked dirt in a chalice of glass and topaz (39) . Groom, the embodiment
of the traditional Republican government, was deeply affected by the death of his father and brother,
however this represents the weakening of the Spanish government due to the civil disputes within it.
The use of bulls and blood are used to symbolize war. The Fascist leaders of Italy aided in the Spanish
Civil War, they urged the Republican Government to wage war to prevent further uprisings by the
Rebels, which were the individuals fighting for freedom ( The Spanish Civil War ). Groom and
Mother s relationship is used by Lorca to portray how he views the traditional Spanish government
and how it is being influenced by Fascist thought through a concept similar to a parent and their child.
The ideas of Individual freedom are personified through Leonardo and the Horse. The horse
symbolizes freedom and independence and is always used to represent Leonardo, making him the
embodiment of the Rebels and their ideas of freedom for all social structures. ( Horse ) A prime
example is from Act One where mother in law sings Hush, baby, hush. Sing of the

The Evolution Of Owls
Owls are interesting nocturnal animals that have evolved in many ways other than birds. There are
over 200 different species of owls and they have all evolved differently but they share some common
characteristics. Some environmental adaptations that owls have are silent flight, keen eyesight, and the
ability to hunt. Owls have silent flight which helps them catch prey. They also fly without much effort,
because their wings are large compared with the size of their bodies. With large wings and a light
body one can see an owl fly past but they will most likely not hear them. Because of this owls can
carry heavy animals, fly among thick trees, and hover above open fields. Owls have silent flight from
fringed feathers that muffle the sound

Rommel Leadership Traits
AN ANALYTICAL ESSAY ON THE LEADERSHIP TRAITS OF FIELD MARSHAL ERWIN
ROMMEL Rommel, Rommel, Rommel, Rommel ! he cried. What else matters but beating him?
Winston Churchill (Cairo Conference, 8 August 1942) INTRODUCTION 1. Leaders and the
leadership are two perennially significant subjects of human interest. In the military field, the role of
leadership assumes greater significance as the actions of a leader has direct bearing on the lives of his
men and fate of his nation. Therefore the study of leadership is of critical importance to comprehend
and develop the nuances of the art of military leadership. In the same context, study of military
leadership models constructed by great captains is of utmost importance so as to draw pertinent
lessons for the training of future military leadership. The selection of Rommel has great personal
significance for author, his armed forces and by extension militaries of all developing countries. The
significance lies in the fact that Rommel throughout his military career had limited access to the
resources in comparison to his adversaries and no general was able to achieve more with less than the
desert fox . This perpetual predicament of Rommel, is faced by almost modern military leaders, who

Truppenfuhrung elaborated above as well as the model he created for himself and others to follow.
ANALYSIS OF KEY LEADERSHIP TRAITS Between Rommel and his troops was mutual

.4.2 Weakness
First, like other luxury goods, the target customers were the first class in society, which could only
serve a little part of people. Its market was much smaller than the ordinary products. Second, LV had
many competitors in luxury industry. These famous brands all had centuries old history and good
quality of goods and focused on the first class in society. The competition became more and more
fierce in this field.
5.4.3 Opportunity
First, as a famous brand in the world, LV always chose the new market for luxury goods. For example,
now China was its new and important market. Before it opened its shops in China, many Chinese
customers had already bought LV product when they were in western countries, which provided a
good foundation for Chinese market. Now, LV also entered into the Indian and Russian market.
Second, shift in consumption concept and rapid global economic development provided a better
development platform for luxury goods.
5.4.4 Threat
First, the price of raw material increases, which cost much in the produce process.
Second, policy pressures on export countries and the import and export tariffs have limited the
company s overseas markets. Third, LV ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Power Generation From The Alternative Sources Of Energy Essay
1. INTRODUCTION As a result of rapid industrialization and urbanization, there has been substantial
increase in energy demand. The fossil fuel consumption has also been increased to great extent. But it
s over consumption is leading to various environmental issues like increased level of Carbon dioxide
and various harmful gases in the environment and rise of Global Warming. So various approaches are
being made to meet the world s increasing demand of energy.in the recent years, there has been great
development in the field of power generation from the alternative sources of energy. Renewable
energy projects are becoming more popular. There are many renewable sources available for
generating energy for instance: Solar Energy, Wind Energy, Hydro Power, Marine/Ocean Energy,
Geothermal Energy, Nuclear Energy, Bio Fuel, and Tidal Power. But power generation using solar
energy is gaining more importance as it is ecofriendly, needs low maintenance and has negligible
noise and wear due to absence of mechanical parts. So photovoltaic systems are such project which
converts the sun s radiation into usable electricity and this report emphasizes on power can be
transmitted from solar source to the required load by means of a DC AC Converter and various
operating principles of the converter used for photovoltaic systems are also discussed. 2. NEED FOR
DC AC CONVERTER It is basically a two stage topology which acts as an interface between the

Cape Florida State Park Essay
Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park rests on 400 acres protected land. Occupying the southern third of
the island of Key Biscayne, this natural respite for birds and people alike falls just south of Miami
Beach. This park was rightly named for The Miami News editor who fought to protect the land and
preserve the Key in its natural state.
Along the east side of the park, one and a quarter miles of sandy beachfront boasts open views of the
Atlantic Ocean. This beautiful area offers visitors access to warm waters and white sands. With a reef
six miles offshore, the waters are protected and gentle waves lap at the feet of both children and
adults.
RECOGNITION
Quietly populated, these sands earn recognition among Florida beaches. In 2005, the beach of Cape
Florida ranked eighth best beach in the county. And, 2013 saw it as seventh on Forbes ... Show more

The park and beach claim a role in history as well. A 2004 historical marker identifies this area as part
of the National Underground Railroad Network to Freedom Trail. Using these waterways to escape to
the Bahamas and settle on the Andros Islands, this beach offered sights of a more abundant life. In the
early 1820s, 300 American slaves found freedom aboard 27 sloops and additional canoes sailing from
Florida to the Bahamas.
Cape Florida Light
Home to the Cape Florida Light, this shoreline holds even more history. Built in 1825, this light is the
oldest standing structure in Greater Miami and South Florida today. While restored years earlier, this
lighthouse was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1971.
The claim to fame for this landmark is that it is the only lighthouse attacked by Indians. After the
attack, the U.S. Army built a base on these shores to protect the land and sea from more invaders.
Tours of the light and the lighthouse keeper s cottage present guests with the history of this shoreline.

The Garden By Andrew Corvel Poetry
The poet who marvelled the readers and critics alike in the last decade of the nineteenth century
through his exquisite handling of subject matter and stylistic devices is obviously Andrew
Marvell(1621 1678).Originally associated with the school of Donne ,that is , the metaphysical school
of poetry which focused on abstruse terminology, dramatic beginning, ratiocinative mode, colloquial
language, wit, pun, paradox, ambiguity and above all, the use of metaphysical conceit; his is a
veritable mosaic where he deals with varied and variegated themes. His poems like To His Coy
Mistress, The Coronet, Mourning, Last Instructions to a Painter, The Fair Singer, The Picture of Little
T.C, The Definition of Love, The Garden, The Mower s Song, An Horatian Ode Upon Cromwell s
Return from Ireland, On a Drop of Dew, Upon Appleton House, to My Lord Fairfax are unique in
matter as well as manner, theme as well as treatment, content as well as style. In his poems, Marvell
treated political, carpe diem, personal, religious and pastoral themes. His The Garden is obviously the
finest poem of the poems of rural solitude (Joseph H. Summers, Introduction ... Show more content on

As Rosalie L. Colie comments in My Echoing Song : Andrew Marvell s Poetry of Criticism:
The Garden itself brings to its height the tradition of Renaissance garden poetry, at the same time
refining and exploiting many other traditions not primarily associated with gardens....| (p.14)
It is significant to note that garden theme is one of the recurring and preponderant themes in Marvell s
poetry. In different poems like The Nymph Complaining, Little T.C, Upon Appleton House Marvell
represents different gardens in different ways. Whereas in The Nymph Complaining the beautiful
garden is created to satisfy the demands of the creator¬¬¬¬¬¬ the heroine, in Upon Appleton House

The Psychology Of School Violence Essay
Today I m going to be talking about school violence and how different psychologist have different
viewpoints in the same situations. I m going to be talking about Behaviorism, Cognitive and lastly
Humanistic and existential psychologist. So a Behaviorism psychologist believes that people learn the
behavior habits over time from things such as videogames, violence and TV. So for instances some of
the kids that did the shooting probably was exposed to some type of violence at an early age.
Cognitive psychologist more on the metal side of the process unlike the Behaviorism psychologist.
Cognitive approach means that the type of environment a person is exposed to also plays a big role on
how they act later in life. Lastly we will talk about the Humanistic Psychologist which I think is my
favorite one and his approach on the situation. Most stable people choose to do whatever it is knowing
the consequences. They believe people have the free will and the understanding to make their choices.
From a Behaviorism psychologist view the kids who did the shooting in Newton Connecticut was
probably exposed to some type of violence. Behaviorism believes that behavior is learned through
previous learning experiences or interactions with the social environment. They also believe that the
mental process is too hard to observe and measure. So let s say the kid showed some type of signs of
having issues with his mother before he killed all of those people. His mother or other family

Essay On Natural Immunity Against Malaria
Natural Immunity against malaria:
Natural immunity against asexual stage parasites develops with repetitive exposure to malaria
parasites and thus forms the basis of clinical immunity against malaria (Baird, Jones et al. 1991, Day
and Marsh 1991, Trape, Rogier et al. 1994, Baird 1995, Baird 1998, Hviid 2005). Though clinical
immunity to malaria has been shown to develop in individuals, it does not prevent reinfection due to
several factors including the complex life cycle of the parasite and insufficiency of the magnitude of
effective antibodies. Susceptibility to P. falciparum was shown to be independent of the number of
years of exposure to the parasite, and age dependent protective immunity developed over a two year
period of repeated ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
2012, Aguilar, Magallon Tejada et al. 2014, Joice, Nilsson et al. 2014)while the mature stage V
gametocytes are observed in the blood. These newly formed gametocytes developing as
intraerythrocytic stages present several new antigens to the human immune system during each
infection cycle. These immunologically identifiable forms are clear targets for the host immune
system and both innate and adaptive immune responses are expected to become active against them.
Naturally acquired antibodies against gametocytes exist (Graves, Carter et al. 1988, Paul, Vengesai et
al. 2016, Bansal, Vengesai et al. 2017, Gebru, Ajua et al. 2017) and may play a role in controlling
transmission by limiting the gametocyte development in the circulation or by interrupting gamete
development and fertilization in the mosquito following ingestion. In particular antibodies against
Pfs48/45 and Pfs230 gametocyte proteins effectively target male and female gamete surface and block
mosquito stage development of the malaria parasites.
Analysis of investigations carried out in areas of different malaria endemicity have shown wide
variation in the frequency and prevalence of these antibodies (Bousema and Drakeley 2011). Studies
have demonstrated that while natural immunity does develop against sexual stages, little is known
about age dependent pattern of the antibodies. Age dependency of the humoral response can be
associated with repetitive exposure to the parasite (Graves, Wirtz et al. 1988,

  • 2. A Literary Analysis Of Dsire s Baby By Kate Chopin A Literary Analysis of Désirée s Baby Désirée s Baby , a short story written by Kate Chopin, delves straightaway into serious matters one such example is the racial and gender injustices that occurred during the era of slavery. The plot follows the life of a young woman, Désirée, from her mysterious and unknown origins to being the wife of a wealthy aristocrat. Her life is suddenly shattered when she realizes that, to her horror, her son s features resemble the ones of the race that is cursed with the brand of slavery . Chopin uses many literary devices throughout her text, such as setting, symbolism, theme, and irony to illustrate to her readers how inherent prejudices, be they of race or gender, negatively affect all factions involved in the respective affair, rather than only those deemed inferior. Firstly, Chopin establishes the setting in the southern state of Louisiana sometime before the Civil War. This historical setting affects the thinking and beliefs of majority of the characters in the short story. Armand no longer loved his wife simply because of the unconscious injury she had brought upon his home and his name . That is, Armand did not care for his wife and child because he believed and considered them to be an inferior race. The idea that he brought blacks into his home and made them his family not only disgusted him, but brought him shame. Another aspect that characterized the setting was the use of the word bayou , a common Louisiana word. In the end ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. A Theoretical Perspective On Organisational Socialisation Introduction Individuals spend their lives trying to fit in. Fit into their family roles, fit into their circle of friends and fit into their workplaces. Being a part of a group, a team or an organisations provides a sense of comfort and belonging. Furthermore, it instills confidence to carry out respective roles efficiently. The process by which individuals incorporate themselves into society and into organisations is defined as socialisation (Jablin 2001). Socialisation theories usually focus on paid workers and their experiences within an organisation (Miller 2012). What they fail to consider is that volunteers within an organisation are also equally important and in need of the same guidance and knowledge that paid workers are provided with. Kramer (2010) brings volunteers to the forefront stating that volunteers are an equal asset to an organisation, especially in the Non profit sector. The purpose of this research is to explore the process of socialisation among volunteers in a Non profit organisation. The paper will provide a theoretical perspective on Organisational Socialisation in terms of its definition and its process. It will then examine how a particular volunteer socialisation process is applicable in the case of a unique project conducted by a Non profit organisation. Background The International Society is a Non profit organisation in Manchester that supports international students in enhancing their experience while studying in the United Kingdom. It ... During fifth grade, just before Thanksgiving break, I was sitting in a middle school assembly. I was reading something off of the screen, and my teacher asked me why I was squinting. I shrugged and thought nothing of it for a while. A week later, I was sitting in her class, and I had to ask about what was on the board. I don t remember what it was, but it was something pretty simple. She was confused because I was a strong science student, but she started to explain it nonetheless. Shoppers are not always simply looking to buy products, but also want to get pleasure from the shopping activity. This experience is affected by the customer s shopping goals, what they expect, and what their motivations are (Demangeot Broderick, 2006). Motivation for shopping online is an important factor to consider when analysing the shopping experience (Swatman Chin, 2004). DDT As Portrayed In Silent Spring By Rachel Carson According to the World Health Organization, Malaria has over 500 million cases and 2.7 million deaths every year with it being endemic in 91 countries. Dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane, or DDT, is an insecticide that was used for years before there was a huge backlash over the effects on the environment from the mass usage that culminated in a total ban in the United States in the early 1970s; it also takes down the populations of insects that carry Malaria and other illnesses like it. The book that started the controversy, Silent Spring by Rachel Carson, stated that DDT could cause cancers and kill humans while no human deaths have ever been officially linked to DDT. The actual fears over DDT were the environmental consequences of spraying ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This was very effective but the issue arose that there was virtually no limitation on the use of the so called carcinogen. Currently, somewhere around 14 countries use DDT to fight malaria and it is helping. There are still huge death tolls due to malaria alone (as seen here using an older algorithm) and other insect borne illnesses can be eradicated, as news outlets like to call it when they are so rare that they are almost impossible to get. Not only is it effective at killing mosquitoes but it is also cheap to use as it only costs around $1.44 per year for one household. This brings me to my next point, the proper usage of DDT in the modern age is to use very small amounts indoors instead of massive amounts everywhere, as is the American way. We managed to make malaria one of the most difficult things to catch in the western hemisphere with DDT and responsible usage can do it again with less dramatic side effects. Pierre de Fermat sits in his library, huddled over a copy of Arithmetica written by the Greek mathematician Diaphantus in the third century A. D. Turning the page, Fermat comes across the Pythagorean equation: x 2 + y 2 = z 2. He leans back in his chair to think and wonders if this property is limited to the power of two only. He bends over the book again, scanning ahead through the pages to look for any clues. Suddenly, he begins writing intensely in the margin: It is impossible for a cube to be written as a sum of two cubes, or for a fourth power to be written as the sum of two fourth powers or, in general, for any number which is a power greater than the second to be written as a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... His peers, both contemporary and future, recognized his amazing talent: leading mathematical historian of the twentieth century, E. T. Bell, labeled him Prince of Amateurs . Author Julian Coolidge excluded him from his work Mathematics of Great Amateurs because Fermat was so really great that he should count as a professional. He had a habit of jotting down his work and thoughts as notes in margins or on napkins and omitting any formal proof. Fermat claimed to have derivations for all of his notes these cryptic comments were theorems for him but only conjectures for the rest of the mathematical community. Fermat s Last Theorem, therefore, is a misnomer: it should more appropriately be referred to as Fermat s Last Conjecture! In 1670, five years after Fermat s death, his observations including a vaguely outlined proof for n=4 showing no whole number solutions for the equation x 4 + y 4 = z4 were published by one of his sons, Clement Samuel Fermat. He included them as annotations and notes to Diaphantus Arithmetica; they are the only link to Fermat s Last Theorem as his original copy has never been discovered. What followed were centuries of attempts and frustrating failures, as mathematicians the world over endeavored to challenge and solve Fermat s marginal notation. In 1718, the prominent European mathematician Leonhard Euler proved the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Paper 228.797 Project Report on Energy Harvesting and Efficient Hardware Design considerations for Wireless Sensor nodes Prepared by: Mukesh Mishra Date: 21/03/2016 1. Introduction A Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) is comprised of multiple tiny devices called nodes or motes. These are distributed spatially in an environment to monitor sense and compute data wirelessly. The role of a sensor node is to evaluate different tasks. First, a node has to sense physical conditions and exchange the information with other nodes after computation. Second, it plays the important role of being a relay for different sensor nodes [1],[2],[3],[4]. These nodes can mount anywhere in the environment [2]. With recent advancements in the field of electronics these devices are becoming cheaper and smaller and are being employed in both indoor and outdoor environments. Applications include agricultural monitoring, household and military surveillance, industrial automation and robotics, and healthcare [3]. A sensor node, shown in Figure.1 is a low power device and consists of five different components namely [5], [12] (i) Sensing unit: comprises of two sub units: sensors and analog to digital converter (ADC). Sensors are capable to measure electrical parameters and interface to the real world. • 12. Enzyme Concentration And Incubation Time The objective of this experiment was to determine if N acetyl B D hexosaminidase isolated from rat testes exhibits Michaelis Menten kinetics. This was determined by first deciding the optimal enzyme concentration and incubation time, 1.32*10 5 μM/mL and 60 mins, respectively. The enzyme was then reacted with varying concentrations of 4 nitrophenyl N acetyl B D glucosamine enzyme substrate and a Michaelis Menten plot was generated. Once it was determined that N acetyl B D hexosaminidase follows Michaelis Menten kinetics by exhibiting a hyperbolic curve, a Lineweaver Burk plot was generated and kinetic parameters Vmax, Km, Kcat, and Kcat/Km ratio were calculated. The parameters Vmax, Km, Kcat, and Kcat/Km ratio were determined to be 165 μm/mL/min, 0.145 mM, 2.08*105 s 1, and 1.43*106 mM 1 s 1, respectively. N acetyl B D hexosaminidase was proven to follow Michaelis Menten kinetics, however, the calculated enzymatic parameters did not aligned with literature values. INTRODUCTION Enzyme kinetics is a field of study that allows for enzymes catalytic role within reactions to be quantified. Quantifying enzymes catalytic role provides a means to characterize enzymes through various lenses. Enzyme kinetics can be studied through the use of multiple kinetic parameters. Km, Vmax, Kcat, and the ratio of Kcat/Km can be determined to accurately quantify and measure aspects of an enzyme within a specific reaction. While this seems to be an over sensationalized statement, analyzing the dispute system design, cross cultural negotiation, and resistance points of the deal, may shed further insight on the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action and how the United States resolves conflict with Middle Eastern nations. Historical Context The relations between the United State s and Iran were amicable throughout the post World War II. In entering the Cold War, the United States negotiated the Baghdad Pact in which an alliance between, Iran, Iraq, and Pakistan was formed. During this era, President Nixon encouraged the Shah of Iran to develop a nuclear program and provided the funding to Iran s energy sector. The United States maintained a close partnership with Iran until, the Islamic Revolution in February of 1979. The revolution overthrew the Shah of Iran and Ruhollah Khomeini became the new supreme leader of Iran. Immediately following the revolution, Iran engaged in a war against Iraq in the early 1980s. With a new balance of power, tensions grew between the U.S. and Iran. During this time, Iran held 52 Americans hostage in an attempt to negotiate with the United States; however, after the Iranian hostage crisis, the United States no longer saw Iran as an ally. • 14. The Ethicality Of Genetically Modified Organisms Science has given us lots of opportunities to change different species, and even combine them. We are able to genetically modify plants and animals to have traits that differ from what they originally were created with. Genetic modification is different from selective breeding. When we selectively breed something, we decide which characteristics we want in a specific species, then select the plants that show that. We only breed those plants, until all we get are the plants with the traits that we want to show. This process can take up to hundreds of years. We selectively bred dogs from wolves this way. Genetic modification, on the other hand, takes much less time than that. A GMO(Genetically Modified Organism) is created when we insert DNA from one organism into the cell of another. The two DNA strands fuse together, and then that organism creates more cells that have that DNA. This is how we genetically modify fish to glow in the dark, or tomatos to resist cold temperatures. Genetically modified organisms are helping us, and are incredible. We need them. The Ethical Concerns Involving Tobacco The main ethical concerns involving tobacco is well known to educated Americans; however, the ethics around the marketing aspects of tobacco, especially tobacco exposure to children, are less talked about. Some of the early marketing decisions of tobacco can be traced back to one of the most renowned and valuable cigarette brands in the world, Marlboro. Marlboro first emerged onto the tobacco scene at the beginning of the nineteenth century. They originally were a cigarette brand with a female based target market. Marlboros were considered feminine cigarettes because they had filters, which were very unpopular for men at the time because the purpose of the filter was to protect a woman s lipstick so that the tobacco leaves would never actually make contact with the mouth or lips. The ethical health concerns of ciggerrets were not the only issue. • 25. The Continuity Of Life Chapter 1 Summary Chapter 9 The Continuity of Life: Cellular Reproduction Summary (184) Reproduction is important for the survival of all living things. Without a mechanism for reproduction, life would come to an end. There are two types of reproduction to learn in elementary grades, asexual and sexual reproduction. Many teachers are afraid of discussing reproduction, but if presented as a factual lesson it is easy for the students to understand the principles without the standard giggles. Asexual reproduction refers to simple cell division that produces an exact duplicate of an organism. There are many different types of asexual reproduction which can be discussed to show students the variability of modes of reproduction. Some single celled organisms reproduce by simple cell division, this is called binary fission. In this manner, the mother cell simply splits in half producing two daughter cells. Some cells reproduce by unequal division of the cells, this is called budding. In this process the bud forms as a knob on the mother cell. The nucleus divides and identical parts go to the mother cell and the bud. The bud may grow until it is as large as the mother cell and can form buds of its own. In some cases buds ... • 26. Essay on The World Is Too Much for Us In William Wordsworth s The World is Too Much With Us, this poem heeds warning to his generation. This warning is that they are losing sight of what is actually important in this world: nature and God. To some people both of these are the same thing ...as if lacking appreciation for the natural gifts of God is not sin enough, we add to it the insult of pride for our rape of His land (Wordsworth). With his words, Wordsworth makes this message perpetual and everlasting. William Wordsworth loved nature and based many of his poems on it. He uses very strong diction to get his point and feelings across. This poem expresses Wordsworth s feeling about nature and religion containing a melodic rhythm (Wordsworth). Each line and each ... For this, for everything, we are out of tune; (8) proposes that even in the spectacle of a storm, human beings (adults) look on uncaringly implying that we, humans, don t realize the damage we are inflicting on helpless nature (Wordsworth). The symbolism created by the images and metaphors represent Wordsworth s deep passion about the conflict between nature and modern progress. Images and metaphors alluding to mankind s greed, nature s innocence, and the speaker s rejection of accepted principles all serve to illustrate the speaker s passion to save his generation (Gill). The final part, the sestet, Wordsworth wishes that he were a pagan (a heathen) raised according to a different vision of the world, so that, standing on this pleasant lea (Nicholas), he might see images of ancient gods rising from the waves, a sight that would cheer him greatly. He wishes he had faith in ancient gods of nature to extract revenge on people. Wordsworth imagines Proteus rising from the sea (Nicholas), and Triton blowing his wreathed horn (Nicholas). His dream of these ancient gods of the sea would save nature from man. Wordsworth, in the sestet, dramatically proposes an impossible personal solution to his problem—he wishes he could have been born and raised as a pagan, so he could still see ancient gods in the action of ... Opening new production sites or distribution centers closer to dispersed customers is one way to reduce the lead time and transportation costs. However, the acquisition of such facilities in the oil and petrochemical industries, if feasible, is typically very costly and often results in higher inventory and operating costs (Hebert, 2004). Red Cavaney, president of the American Petroleum Institute, said Most companies are unlikely to undertake the significant investment needed to even begin the process (Hebert, 2004) These factors are pushing oil and petrochemicals companies to either absorb the increase in costs or pass the costs on to customers who are already facing increasing prices. Companies therefore have recognized that improved supply chain efficiencies represent a huge area for cost savings, specifically in the logistics area; they are estimated to be an average between 10 and 20 percent of revenues (Hamilton, 2003). Also, companies believe that the supply chain in which they participate as customers and suppliers is what creates competition rather than individual companies (Whitfield, 2004; Lange, 2004; Morton, 2003; Bianchi, 2003; Collins, 1999; Coia, 1999). It is this part of the human condition that makes us feel as though we must forge ties with something outside of ourselves in order to establish a strong sense of existence and a clear understanding of who we are. Advanced Methodology With Response Surface Methodology Essay Robust design (RD) based on the concept of building and improving quality into a design has been paid much attention by researchers and practitioners for years, and a number of approaches have been introduced in the literature. There exist many research attempts to integrate RD methodology with response surface methodology (RSM). The three level full factorial design embedded higher order polynomial models may be more useful in order to obtain better RD solutions than the second order model. In this paper, we propose a dual response surface approach based on higher order polynomial models in order to optimize the process bias and standard deviation responses at the same time while the process mean is restricted by the lower and upper specification limits. We also discuss why the three level full factorial design is preferred over the other second order designs, such as the traditional central composite design, with higher polynomial models. In addition, the significance levels of the model fittings are sought out by the model selection procedure. A numerical example is given to illustrate the superiority of the proposed approach, as compared with the traditional methods. The fossil fuel consumption has also been increased to great extent. But it s over consumption is leading to various environmental issues like increased level of Carbon dioxide and various harmful gases in the environment and rise of Global Warming. So various approaches are being made to meet the world s increasing demand of energy.in the recent years, there has been great development in the field of power generation from the alternative sources of energy. Renewable energy projects are becoming more popular. There are many renewable sources available for generating energy for instance: Solar Energy, Wind Energy, Hydro Power, Marine/Ocean Energy, Geothermal Energy, Nuclear Energy, Bio Fuel, and Tidal Power. But power generation using solar energy is gaining more importance as it is ecofriendly, needs low maintenance and has negligible noise and wear due to absence of mechanical parts. So photovoltaic systems are such project which converts the sun s radiation into usable electricity and this report emphasizes on power can be transmitted from solar source to the required load by means of a DC AC Converter and various operating principles of the converter used for photovoltaic systems are also discussed. 2. • 50. The Psychology Of School Violence Essay Today I m going to be talking about school violence and how different psychologist have different viewpoints in the same situations. I m going to be talking about Behaviorism, Cognitive and lastly Humanistic and existential psychologist. So a Behaviorism psychologist believes that people learn the behavior habits over time from things such as videogames, violence and TV. So for instances some of the kids that did the shooting probably was exposed to some type of violence at an early age. Cognitive psychologist more on the metal side of the process unlike the Behaviorism psychologist. Cognitive approach means that the type of environment a person is exposed to also plays a big role on how they act later in life. Lastly we will talk about the Humanistic Psychologist which I think is my favorite one and his approach on the situation. Most stable people choose to do whatever it is knowing the consequences. They believe people have the free will and the understanding to make their choices. From a Behaviorism psychologist view the kids who did the shooting in Newton Connecticut was probably exposed to some type of violence. Behaviorism believes that behavior is learned through previous learning experiences or interactions with the social environment. They also believe that the mental process is too hard to observe and measure. So let s say the kid showed some type of signs of having issues with his mother before he killed all of those people. His mother or other family ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 52. Essay On Natural Immunity Against Malaria Natural Immunity against malaria: Natural immunity against asexual stage parasites develops with repetitive exposure to malaria parasites and thus forms the basis of clinical immunity against malaria (Baird, Jones et al. 1991, Day and Marsh 1991, Trape, Rogier et al. 1994, Baird 1995, Baird 1998, Hviid 2005). Though clinical immunity to malaria has been shown to develop in individuals, it does not prevent reinfection due to several factors including the complex life cycle of the parasite and insufficiency of the magnitude of effective antibodies. Susceptibility to P. falciparum was shown to be independent of the number of years of exposure to the parasite, and age dependent protective immunity developed over a two year period of repeated ... These newly formed gametocytes developing as intraerythrocytic stages present several new antigens to the human immune system during each infection cycle. These immunologically identifiable forms are clear targets for the host immune system and both innate and adaptive immune responses are expected to become active against them. Naturally acquired antibodies against gametocytes exist (Graves, Carter et al. 1988, Paul, Vengesai et al. 2016, Bansal, Vengesai et al. 2017, Gebru, Ajua et al. 2017) and may play a role in controlling transmission by limiting the gametocyte development in the circulation or by interrupting gamete development and fertilization in the mosquito following ingestion. In particular antibodies against Pfs48/45 and Pfs230 gametocyte proteins effectively target male and female gamete surface and block mosquito stage development of the malaria parasites. Analysis of investigations carried out in areas of different malaria endemicity have shown wide variation in the frequency and prevalence of these antibodies (Bousema and Drakeley 2011). Studies have demonstrated that while natural immunity does develop against sexual stages, little is known about age dependent pattern of the antibodies. Age dependency of the humoral response can be associated with repetitive exposure to the parasite (Graves, Wirtz et al. 1988, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
