Personal Strengths Of Personal Inventory
OT 381
Personal Inventory
In general, what do you consider some of your personal strengths? Of what interpersonal
skills/abilities are you proud? A personal strength of mine is collaborating well with others. Also,
when engaging with another individual, I am able to have patience as well as be an attentive listener.
These qualities are important in the field of OT because teamwork is the best approach. Finding the
answers to the problems is not going to be independently based all the time. Colleagues help each
other out by combining unique ideas in order to come up with the best possible solution. While
working with the patient, it is important to have the skill of being a good listener because hearing why
they are there and what they are struggling with is necessary for assessing the situation in order to help
him/her in the best way. Also, a patient is not going to be completely cured after one session of OT, so
possessing patience throughout the entire process is a key factor that all OT s should work towards.
What areas do you feel you need to address or need to improve in order to become more adept in the
area of professionalism and being the best occupational therapy student? One area that I strive to make
a strength in the future is communication skills. Possessing

Rockign Horse Winner
The short story, Rocking Horse Winner , and the movie based on it contrast considerably. When the
written story has ended the movie continues with ideas, which may not come from the author. Three
major differences of the two are: the mother, the father, and the ending. In the movie the mother,
Hester, is portrayed as a loving and self sacrificing person. While in the short story she is exposed to
be a cold hearted, and greedy person. Another instance where the short story and movie differ is the
role of the father.
In the beginning of the written story the author reveals Hester to be a cold hearted mother. She had
bonny children, yet she felt they had been thrust upon her, and she could not love them (75). In public
she is thought of as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When Paul goes into the coma like state his mother sits at his bedside and cries when he dies. After
Paul dies Hester wants nothing to do with the money, she even tells Bassett to burn it. The heartless
Hester in the written story never shed a tear when Paul died.
Another major difference between the written story and the movie is the character of the father. In the
short story the author only mentions him briefly. The father went to town to some office. But though
he had good prospects, these prospects never materialized (76). Hester talks about her husband being
unlucky frequently, but the husband is never present. Yet in the movie the father plays a moderately
significant character. Throughout the movie he is included in the dialogue. He even stands up to
Hester a couple of times. Everyday the father goes to work while trying to find a better job. Everyday
when he gets home she asks if he had any luck finding a better job. When he reply s that he didn t
have any luck, she belittles the job he does have. When the father loses the job he does have Hester
and Uncle Oscar both scold him.
The most important difference between the movie and the written story is when the written story ends
the movie continues with ideas, which may not come from the author. The movie continues to show
the viewer Hester s reaction to Paul s death. When Paul dies she orders Bassett to take the rocking
horse out of the house and burn it. When Bassett asks her what

Mute, Motionless, and Beautiful
Gunda, Divya s four year old son was playing in the living room happily. He looked at his mother
again and again. She looked different like she was getting ready to go out. He liked going out not just
with her but anybody per se. Sometimes he would just cry in a high pitch tone until the concerned
person would agree. Of course there won t be any tears. Everybody knew he would just throw dry
tantrums. When he was angry, he would bite everyone around him and smash things. When he was in
a happy mood, he was like a sweet boy. Give him whatever he would want, then he would kiss you all
the time. He was playing with his toys until Divya put on her shoes. Then he ran and chained her right
leg with cute little hands. ``Mom, I want to come with you. ``I am not going anywhere. ``You are
lying. Then why are you looking so pretty? Why are you wearing this saree. I know this saree is for
special occasion. Divya told him the truth that she was getting ready to see the doctor. she was 8
months pregnant. She wanted to take him with her. But she did not know how long it would take.
Sometimes it would take hours when hospital was filled with patients. She was afraid that he would
fall asleep and it would be difficult to carry him. So she told him that if he accompanied her, then the
doctor would give him injection. ``I know doctor will give you injection not me. He thought for a

Walker Art Center Research Paper
So what exactly is the Walker Art Center? The Walker Art Center is a contemporary art center in
MInneapolis Minnesota. It was established in 1927 and it is also one of the most visited museums in
the United States. For this paper I was assigned to visit the Walker Art Center and choose one piece of
art to write an essay about. It was my first time going to the Walker Art Center and I found myself in
amazement with the all the artwork there. I examined many pieces and found the piece Do woman
have to be naked to get into the Met. Museum ? By the Guerrilla girls the most compelling. I found
this piece compelling because it was the only one that caught my eye since it was one of the few that
represents feminism and equality for women and minorities. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

First of all I started with the subject matter of the artwork. What I saw the subject matter to be was the
woman with the gorilla mask on because it is what catches the audience attention, and it was also the
most detailed aspect in the artwork. The rest was is bolded words and blanket the woman lays on. The
poster is also an example of postmodern art. Next, the medium of this artwork is screen printed on a
poster. The Form of this image is huge. When I saw it at the Walker Center in the section of the
Guerilla girls it was the biggest of them all. The others were fairly small and put next to each other but
this one in particular was by itself and much bigger than the rest. The context about this poster is that
you see a woman that is naked and she wears a gorilla mask which represents the guerrilla girls. She
also covers her private parts to get the point across that is stated in bold letters that is also the title of
the artwork which says Do woman have to be naked to get into the Met. Museum ? In other words, the
naked woman s private parts being covered is not a coincidence but instead it is the artist s way of
telling people how naked woman are often used in artwork and it s not fair. The poster gets even more
descriptive with the smaller bolder words in the image that state Less than 5% of the artist

The Application Of Non Living Things Could Be Protected...
Introduction:
Non living things could be protected from pathogens by defence chemicals in the form of disinfectants
which are applied thinly on the objects and surfaces. For living things, their defence from pathogens
comes in the form of antibiotics and antiseptics, the former given intravenously or through oral
administration and the latter applied on the skin whatever the indented purpose may be but does still
meet the defence required if applied in the right doses(Lee et al).
Pathogens on the surface are eliminated physically by disinfectants. The mode of operation comes in
the form of chemicals, diluted or undiluted for cleaning and by heating; we have noticed this process
used in the milk preservation through pasteurisation whereby milk is heated at a very high temperature
to kill pathogens. The application of disinfectants varies widely in use for the different settings. For
healthcare cleaning to control and keep out pathogens, ethanol is the number one choice used to
disinfect and sanitise floors, operation surfaces and surfaces touched the most by people like doors
and door closing aids. The liquid based disinfectant normally gets rid of bacteria if it is in the right
dilutions or measurements. There are iodine and chlorine based disinfectants both targeting pathogens.
The latter is generally used in water treatment and food hygiene and the former widely used for
making surgical instruments to render them free from pathogens, thus sterilisation. Antimicrobial

Essay on The Day of the Locust by Nathanael West
The Day of the Locust by Nathanael West
In The Day of the Locust, Tod Hackett undergoes an internal development relative to his migration.
Tod, an architect living in Connecticut, moves out to Hollywood to build scenery for movies. Yet,
once he moves, Tod is transformed into a lethargic, non artist who can no longer create his own
drawings on paper. His surroundings drive these changes, as all characters in the novel are depicted in
a similar fashion. Tod becomes one of the grotesque as well, laughing at the disturbing rather than the
humorous. These new features signal Tod s incapacity to return to his old self, as he constantly suffers
from his migration. This comes full circle at the end of the novel when Tod is led away from the ...

Tod blames this on inertia, as it is becoming easier and more natural for him to do the same things
every day in LA. Only when an external force motivates him, like Abe Kusich s plans for moving do,
does Tod actually move anywhere. By the end of the novel, Tod wonders if he himself [does not]
suffer from the ingrained, morbid apathy he [likes] to draw in others (141). Here, Tod coalesces with
the other apathetic Californians; he becomes one of them. These moments culminate in the police car
scene when first, the policemen carry him by force to the theatre driveway, and then carry him off in
their car. Tod is carried and lifted in this instance; he performs none of the actions but instead, is the
receiver of them. Whereas in Connecticut, he took action in his life and studies, in Los Angeles, he can
do nothing but that which is done to him.
Tod s laughter after hearing the siren corresponds to the grotesque laughter that signals his ultimate
failure to recover. When first in LA, Tod views the houses around him as comical: architecture lacking
both beauty and romance. Yet, he finds it hard to laugh at these truly monstrous buildings, instead
exuding a sigh (61). The artist soon meets Abe Kusich, however, who first laughs at his own joke,
using a high pitched cackle more dwarflike than anything that [comes] from him (63). Abe represents
the average Californian that Tod will

The Rate Of Children With Neural Tube Defects
Below is a bar graph representation of the data in the table above. It shows how significant of a
difference the women who did not take the folic acid until after conception had.
Below is a pie chart showing the ratio of children with birth defects to those without birth defects out
of the total population. The blue portion of the chart represents those children born with the neural
tube defects, and the purple portion refers to hose born without any kind of neural tube defect.
According to this chart, more than half of the babies born during this experiment were born with
neural tube defects. This result was skewed because all but three of the babies born to the group that

Turning up positive for a neural tube defect for the purposes of my experiment meant that one s baby
was born with any kind of neural tube defect; whether it had been at the spinal cord or brain end or
whether it had been open or closed did not matter, those all yielded a positive result. The first group of
women had been taking the folic acid since their wedding day, the second group had been taking the
folic acid since they began trying to conceive, and the third and final group did not start taking the
folic acid until after conception had already occurred. The results of the experiment cam out as I had
expected. The group that ended up with the most amount of neural defects in their children were the
women who did not start taking the folic acid until after conception had already occurred. They, by
far, had more defects than any other group. I have drawn the conclusion that since all the groups took
the same amount of folic acid throughout the duration of the experiment, the ones who had the most
neural tube defects had them occur due to not taking the folic acid before they conceived their children
and before embryogenesis began. Another important aspect of the results to note is that the two other
groups, the ones who began taking the folic acid right after they were married and the ones who
started taking the folic acid when they

What Is The Story Of Saliva Dut
The most interesting thing about this book is that there are two parallel stories of South Sudan in
different time periods, and my favorite story was Salva s. In these few pages that we have read about
our amazing novel we can easily notice how plot is changing the main character s life in a few days,
due to many plot events. Salva Dut is the main character of the novel, his father was a successful man
in his village because he owned many head of cattle and he was the judge of the village (a very
respectful position). He has many brothers and one mom too. Many plot events changed his way of
living in a very few time, the shooting near the school and the group leaving him behind in the barn
are just a few examples. The most interesting fact

Captain Cook s Exploration Of Exploration And Discovery
Captain James Cook added exponential territories to Britain s colonial possessions during his three
voyages. Cook s exploration of the Pacific Ocean contributed to Britain s huge territorial gains,
increased wealth, and influenced Europe s romantic fascination with the science of mapping, charting
and classifying the world. Cook was a supremely gifted surveyor and star navigator. His discoveries
and the accurate cartographic depiction of them, were of incomparable benefit to his contemporaries.
Captain Cook made three exemplary voyages of exploration and discovery. These voyages brought
unimaginable new views of scientific, geographic, and cultural knowledge to a modernizing European
world on the verge of the Enlightenment. Although Cook himself was not steeped in this intellectual
movement, which was gradually moving away from the traditions of received opinions and Christian
thoughts, the results of his Pacific voyages made major contributions to the scientific and cultural
knowledge that led to the enlightenment of his colleagues and philosophers. Cook s explorations and
discoveries were indeed new to the Western world, but to the Pacific islanders they had been known
for thousands of years. The knowledge Cook provided to his contemporaries in turn, was used to
justify colonisation of the discovered lands. This essay will present two arguments. The first argument
will demonstrate how the voyages of Captain James Cook added to the colonial possessions of the

The Russian Revolution And The Russo-Japanese War
The Russian Revolution was one of the most dramatic governmental shifts in European history. Before
the Russian Revolution, Russia was an Autocracy. Tsar Nicholas II had succeeded Tsar Alexander III,
his father, on May 26, 1896. However, Nicholas II s rule took a turn for the worst rather quickly. After
the Russian people lost faith in the tsar, they began to form strikes and riots. The Russian Revolution
had effected World War I, caused the Russian Civil War, brought Russia a new way of thinking, and
shaped Russia s involvement in World War II. The Russian Revolution was a result of many
underlying factors. One of the many factors was the Russo Japanese War. The Russo Japanese War is a
military conflict in which a victorious Japan forced Russia to abandon its expansionist policy in the
Far East, becoming the first Asian power in modern times to defeat a European power ( Russo
Japanese War 1). After Russia lost the Russo Japanese War, Russia understood how ineffective their
military was. The military was heavily undersupplied and undertrained. Russia also faced rising prices
and shortages on bread. Peasants began to riot and strike against Tsar Nicholas II when they felt that
he was not trying to fix Russia s problems. The Russian Revolution of 1905 marked the end of the
autocracy. The Russian Revolution of 1905 began in St. Petersburg on January 22, 1905, also known
as Bloody Sunday. Father Georgii Gapon led steel workers on a strike to St. Petersburg, for better

The Best Athletes Money, Clothes, Cars
Another argument is that these full ride scholarships that are given to the best athletes do not actually
cover all of their expenses. When this happens, schools have boosters. Boosters give the college
athletes money, clothes, cars etc. Example of that is Reggie Bush, running back for the University of
Southern California from 2003 2005. Bush was paid by boosters to attend USC, which violated NCAA
rules. Bush was talked about bad when the violations were revealed and had to return his Heisman
trophy. While Bush actions were clearly wrong and him returning the Heisman trophy was warranted,
its tough to give him much a hard time. At the time, Bush didn t come from much wealth and even
with a full ride football scholarship, he could not cover all of his expenses. Bush s mother was having
trouble paying rent, so a booster at USC offered to pay for his mother s apartment. Bush felt like he
had to take this offer, as there was no other way to make money and pay for his mother s apartment. If
Bush were paid for his participation in the NCAA, then Bush would have not had to violate NCAA
rules. The last and the most important reason to pay college athletes, is that it will ensure that most
college athletes will complete their degrees. Paying student athletes would provide athletes an
incentive to stay in school and complete their degree programs, instead of leaving early for the
professional leagues (Should Student Athletes Get Paid?). If athletes are paid to play,

ISSUE:
Should the patents that are owned by the defendant be evaluated in a patent court?
FACTS: The plaintiff is a gaming studio that developed a video game that uses an online, multi player
platform, which includes audio and video functionalities so that players (alone and in groups) can
watch television and listen to audio streams, in game.
After development of the functionality got out the studio received a cease and desist letter from a
lawyer of the defendant, whom allegedly claims to hold patents for the Internet transmission of audio
and video signals within a game environment. The defendant s lawyers also represent media

The American Civil War Was A Death Filled Four Years
The American Civil War was a death filled four years. Many people died fighting for what they
believed. The north, who won the war, got what they wanted; the south was able to keep their property
with nearly no consequences for their actions. But one group of people who fought for both sides got
nothing for their blood left on the battle field. Both the Union army and the Confederate army
promised the Native Americans who fought for them many things such as land, freedom, and rights
but did either side uphold these agreements with the Native American people? The Native American
people fought hard, and died on both sides of the war to be let down by the American government yet

Indian removal is still imbedded into the Native American people at this time. There was still a lot of
tension between Native s that were pro removal, and those who were against it. For the most part, the
stance an Indian took on removal dictated where they stood on the Civil war. The pro removal side of
Indians sided with the Confederate army, and the Indians against removal such as Chief John Ross
sided with the Union army. Many Indian tribes fought in the civil war consisting of the Delaware,

Mein Kampf Essay
Mein Kampf
MEIN KAMPF is written in the style of a self educated mod em South German with a gift for oratory.
Of course this picture does not begin to characterize Hitler the man, but it does, I think, account for
the elements of his style.
Beginning in his Vienna period, Hitler was a voracious news paper reader. The style of the Austrian
press, as Karl Kraus never wearied of pointing out, was slovenly, illogical, pretentious. Even the
grammar, doubtless because of the large number of Czechs, Hungarians, and other foreigners in the
trade, was uncommonly bad. Hitler inveighed against the Viennese melting pot, but was unconsciously
influenced by its literary style.
He must also have read popular pamphlets on history, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In more concrete passages he is combating political adversaries in his own movement, but even here
the continuity is mystifying, because he never tells us whom he is arguing against, but sets up every
political expedient as a universal principle.
This personalization makes Hitler a poor observer. His style is without color and movement. Images
are rare, and when they do appear, they tend to be purely verbal and impossible to visualize, like the
cornerstone for the end of German domination in the monarchy or forcing the less strong and less
healthy back into the womb of the eternal unknown. The mixed metaphor is almost a specialty of
modern German journalism, but Hitler, with his eyes closed to the visual world, was an expert in his
own right. Pohner, for example, was a thorn in the eyes of venal officials.
A non German of Hitler s intellectual level would in some ways write quite differently. Germany was
a land of high general culture, with the largest reading public of any country in the world. In the lower
middle class, there was a tremendous educational urge. People who in other countries would read light
novels and popular magazines devoured works on art, science, history, and above all philosophy.
Certain philosophical phrases became journalistic cliches. Hitler is forever speaking of concepts, of
things as such (an sick). Moreover, he is constantly at pains to show that he, too, is cultured. Hence the
long, intricate sentences in which he

The American Suburbs Are A Valuable Community For Families
The American suburbs are a valuable community for families. Some would debate that they are the
best place to raise a family. They can provide a safe, loving, and nourishing place for a children but
can also be a sheltered place to grow up. Suburbs are places with community and family and are a
very important part of today s society and culture. For many Americans the word suburb conjures up
an image of post world war II single family tract homes, products of the age of automobiles and
superhighways (American Suburbs Pg1 Teaford, p. 1). Living in suburbs my whole life, I can testify to
the fact that the days of the World War II, single family tract homes are gone, and in their place stand
mcmansions that are built to satisfy our empty hearts. Although suburbs seem like a great place to live,
there are still many problems within them and a huge lack of true Christianity. I strongly believe that
many people in the suburbs are living lives without meaning and without God. People turn to suburbs
to find happiness in items and people. But in the end the amenities of a suburb fail. It fails to complete
us as people. As Christians we need to respond to suburbs in a respectful and effective way. walking
with them through life with love and compassion.
Born in Homewood, Illinois I moved to Spring Lake, Michigan at the age of three. I lived in Spring
Lake Michigan until I came to college here at Wheaton. I ve only ever lived in the suburbs my entire

preferred peace over war. He did not want to establish a naval force because he considered himself to
be a hero on land, and he did not want to have a bitter relationship with England. Additionally, after

However, because Germany was already such a powerful country, the other countries became scared
of the fact that if Germany was powerful on land and sea, they would be unbeatable. They saw
Germany s naval force as a threat. ( German ).
The decisions of Bismarck and Wilhelm were significant to World War I because each of their
methods were so different. While maintaining most of the same goals, their approach to solving these
methods caused World War I. For example, Wilhelm s attempt to isolate France did not go as well as
he had hoped and gave a completely opposite effect than what he was aiming for, as well as angering
the other countries. His fumble in Morocco caused him to gain more foes and give France more allies,
as well as give him a bad reputation. Additionally, by adding a naval force, he came off as a threat to
the other countries. Bismarck did not want to establish a naval force, but Wilhelm s thirst for power
blinded him to make inadequate decisions. People began to develop a distrust and fear of Germany,
which was what Bismarck worked to prevent ( German ). Bismarck s and Wilhelm s decisions on
foreign policy and its execution were some of the key factors that lead to this war. Who they chose to
become allies with, and who they caused others to become allies with was one of the major causes of
World War I (Dobbs).

For many poor, minorities, and other disadvantaged groups, the country has not made significant
progress toward quality education for at risk youth consistent with specific provisions outlined in the
No Child Left Behind Act, failing the hopes of students and their families. When the NCLB Act was
signed into law by President George W. Bush on January 8, 2002, it was supposed to represent a new
beginning in providing quality school education to young people who come from low income families
and who have special needs. Its purpose was to close the achievement gap between groups of students

Unfortunately, these mandates did not produce the type of results supporters of the law had hope for.
Rather, they taught educators to see accountability as unserious and political (Bell and Hess). The law
produced false positives, resulting in mediocre to poor performances on standardized tests, more
public school takeovers and/or overhauling of school districts, controversial teacher reforms,
dependence on standardized test preparation rather than classroom content instruction, and increased
academic wrongdoings (e.g., changing of student grades and test taking fraud). In 2015, Congress in
both chambers passed a new education law, Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), designed to fix some
of the flaws under NCLB. The ESSA was signed into law by President Barack Obama on December
10, 2015. This law shifted most of the responsibility of education policy and school accountability
from the federal government to the states. However, the law modified but did not eliminate provisions
relating to the periodic standardized tests given to students ( Every Student Succeeds Act ). On the
legal front, there have been remarkably very few legal challenges to NCLB. However, a few states and
special interest groups have tried to get some of the mandates taken out because they were
unconstitutional and/or created a financial burden on school districts across the country. One

Speech On Mass Shootings
I have been a student at the Thomas County School System ever since I started pre school. I have
loved every minute of it. I have learned and had great experiences here but over the last four years of
my high school experience, I have noticed that there have been more and more scares of bombings
and shootings. Even though we do have a safe school and take precautions, there is still room for
error, I am proposing that we make the school a safer place for kids to learn by installing bulletproof
glass and each class having a door stopper. Most history about this subject really only goes back 70
years ago. Before that, no one knew what mass shooting were. These events were not committed
during these times. This subject is a relatively new concept that is mainly found in the U.S. In a recent
study, it shows that we are the leading country for mass shootings (Willingham). Following our
country is the Philippines, with a difference of 72 (Willingham). But it does not stop there, these
events are counting with new mass shootings like the Las Vegas Shooting, which is now the largest
one in our country s history with over 50 deaths and over 500 injuries (Yan, et. al.). Even though these
shootings are not near Thomasville. They are everywhere. They could easily strike in our town and no
one would be able to plan. Most of these events are mainly located in California, Florida, and Illinois,

the year of his return. With two poems published in the United States, Frost had secured his
recognition as a poet, but his income was still negligible. Frost once again, in Plymouth, N.H., became
a poet teacher and summer farmer. He spent mainly the academic years 1916 1938 at Amherst College
in Plymouth (Waggoner 2). Frost had several Stillborn children or ones that died in infancy. Frost
lived to be 89 years old until his death in Boston Mass., on January 29, 1963.
Frost achieved poetic maturity before the beginning of poetic modernism, which was ushered in by the
early 20th century movement known as imagism (Waggoner 2). With two poems out Frost began to
feel like a poet more and more. Mountain Interval, which appeared in November 1916, offered readers
some of his finest poems, such as Birches, Out, Out , The Hill Wife, and An Old Man s Winter Night
(Burnshaw 2). Frost released many poems until his death in 1963, even in his final years Frost
released In the Clearing, his ninth and last collection of poems appearing in 1962. Frost spoke at the
Presidential Inauguration for John F. Kennedy, old aged, Frost read the poem by memory.

Theme Of Identity In The Young Elites
Every human being has their own identity and defines the uniqueness of an individual. Personality,
physical appearance, and how an individual acts define identity, or in other words, define who a
person is. The world has come with many different meanings and interpretations of the definition of
identity. Identity, for some is what they are still searching in their lives, and others already found who
they are. There are many factors that impacts greatly on an individual. These factors are found in the
characters that are in the book of The Young Elites and The Outsiders. Both Lu and Hinton show how
their true identities are heavily impacted by experience, divided communities and betrayal.

Cherri was part of the Socs, but throughout the book, she gives Greasers secret information about
them. When she betrayed the Socs, people stopped viewing her positively and started doing the exact
opposite. However, by betraying her own group, Cherri managed to unite the Socs and the Greasers.
Whilst betraying the Socs, Cherri had to go out of her comfort zone, allowing her to realize that she is
capable of doing things she never imagined she could do. She learned to be brave, and in a way, she
learned to be more considerate. She reached out to both groups for the greater good. She even helped
Johnny when he was accused of murdering Bob on purpose (Clark, 10). By doing this, Cherri does
betray her own group, but she does so because she cares about both the Socs and the Greasers. Instead
of being like the others who are bent on getting revenge, Cherri realized that she could use betrayal as
a way of uniting the two different groups. With this being said, Cherri betrays the Socs not for herself,
but for others so that they would stop getting hurt, and by doing this, Hinton proves that betrayal can
really determine a person s true

Nonviolent Resistance Research Paper
Nonviolence is fine as long as it works, Malcolm X once said. Our society is one that celebrates
battlefield heroes on national holidays and grows up believing that violence and courage are one and
the same. Many political scientists and government leaders buy into the idea that power flows from
the barrel of a gun and that true victories cannot come without bloodshed on both sides. These experts
and scholars bring up cases where violence worked fairly well, such as the Algerian, French, and
Russian revolutions, to substantiate their beliefs and notions. These examples, however, are not
representative of the broader idea or prove that violent campaigns of protest are more successful than
nonviolent campaigns. In fact, Malcom X would have been intrigued to learn that that nonviolent
resistance is more effective than armed resistance in overturning oppressive and repressive regimes
and in leading to more democratic societies. We must urge our elected ... Show more content on

Nonviolent campaigns are much more representative in terms of gender, age, race, political party, and
class. Civil resistance allows people of all different levels of physical ability to participate, including
the elderly, people with disabilities, women, children, and essentially anyone else who wants to.
Everyone is born with an equal physical ability to resist nonviolently. On the other hand, violent
resistance is much more physically demanding and, therefore, more exclusive. Furthermore, the
visibility of many civil resistance tactics, like protests or demonstrations, helps to draw risk averse or
hesitant people into the fray. Principally, nonviolent campaigns can solicit more diverse and active
participation from ambivalent people. The inclusive nature of these nonviolent campaigns resonates
fundamentally with the medium used to achieve their primary goals:

The Novel, And As The Film Unfolds
I won t be a carer any more come the end of the year, and though I ve got a lot out of it, I have to
admit I ll welcome the chance to rest to stop and think and remember. I m sure it s at least partly to do
with that, to do with preparing for the change of pace, that I ve been getting this urge to order all these
old memories (Ishiguro, 34). Over the course of the novel, and as the film unfolds, the whole story is
told in a series of flashbacks as Kathy reencounters her life. Kathy stumbles over every difficult
memory as she grapples with her life while trying to gear up for donations. Living in the past may be
easier to do rather than digest that her life has reached its peak. She has outlived Helsham, her best
friends, and now is alone to watch over the dying and wait for her time to complete. The only way that
she can go back and indulge in a time when things were somewhat easier is by reliving her memories.
There she can experience her time with Tommy on repeat, and learn to muddle through all the things
that she has lost and all that she has left. Kathy balances on the line of experiencing her past and living
in it. Although she claims that when her time to complete is upon her she will welcome it and will
comfort the rest from her memories, but it seems that she uses the past as a coping mechanism. The
past is easier, she lived it, she had a good life and reliving it gives her a distraction from her
impending fate. It may have been nostalgia at first but then

The Dangers Of Cockfighting In Bali
When one thinks of Bali, one will most possibly envision the white sand beaches, clear blue skies,
calming water and the huge number of Western tourists there. Chances that one will jump into the idea
of cockfighting in Bali villages would probably be very low. Cockfighting plays a pivotal role in the
life of numerous Balinese men. As Geertz (2005), an American anthropologist suggested, cockfighting
is considered as a part of The Balinese Way of Life . A cockfight, in a straightforward explanation,
means a fight between two roosters in a caged ring until one of them dies for the amusement of
spectators (PETA, n.d.). However, to Balinese men, it means so much more than this it is an obsession
that has been passed down through generations.
Every year in Bali, there will be legal large scale cockfights in almost every village of Bali. This
precedes the renowned public holiday in Bali called Nyepi, where people in Bali are not allowed to go
out of their houses and even have to turn off the lights when they are indoors. This is done in order to
avoid contacts with influx of demons that are chased out of hell for an instant moment (Geertz, 2005).

sacrifice offerings to assuage the demons hunger. After harvesting crops, one would usually need to
sacrifice the roosters before digging the soil, as it is regarded as Bali villages adat or local law, which
demands sacrifices to be made for good harvests (The Jakarta Post,

Between the time periods of 2005 and 2008, 10 countries in the region introduced new anti trafficking
laws or modified old ones. The United Nations has also picked up the fight against ending all forms of
modern slavery including human sex trafficking. The U.N implemented the a protocol that focuses on
(1) prevention and combat of trafficking persons, paying particular attention to women and children;
(2) to protect and assist the victims of such trafficking, with full respect for their human rights; and (3)
to promote cooperation among States Parties in order to meet those objectives. (UN Trafficking
Protocol ) Europe, Asia, Africa, the U.N., the United States, and other nations are fighting and
implementing policies to contest to the world s organized crime networks and combat the trade of
human sex trafficking.
The U.S. needs to continue being more proactive concerning human trafficking and the end of slavery.
Some may ask how does human sex trafficking affect the U.S or its foreign policy? Perhaps others ask
if policies are already intact dealing with this issue what more can we do? Well, one of the most basic
but fundamental ways human sex trafficking affects the foundation of this nation and any U.S foreign
policies deals with democracy. This nation was founded on the fundamental beliefs and constitutional
principles of our core democratic values. These core democratic values are what constitutes the United

Where Have All The Flowers Gone Analysis

1960s Literature
Final Paper
Professor Ady
17 December 2014
Where Have All the Flowers Gone? Pete Seeger Pete Seeger was an American singer, song writer, and
activist. He used his music as a social commentary on what he witnessed during the 1960s.
Throughout this time, Seeger popularized many influential songs, many of which became popular
anthems for different movements, most notably We Shall Overcome. Seeger s songs were normally
protesting violence and war, as well as supporting the emerging counterculture and the environmental
movement that was seen during the 1960s. With all his music writing, Pete Seeger influenced many
other singer/song writers and left a lasting impression on the 60s. Born in Manhattan, Pete Seeger
grew up among an incredible talented, musical family. His father established the music department in
Berkley, as well as musical composition at Juliard (called the New York Institute of Musical Art at the
time). His mother taught violin at the school as well. All of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

He was active in the environmental movement, which was started and supported by Rachel Carson,
and was a huge supporter of Civil Rights, much like Dr. King. It seems as though Seeger was more
leaning toward the non violent side of protesting, having claimed to be a pacifist. This makes me feel
as though he was similar to Kurt Vonnegut, in that war seemed to be illogical in Slaughterhouse Five.
Seeger chose music as his medium of protest, instead of the written or spoken word. He worked with
artists like Bob Dylan, and his work pushed for the renewal of folk music in America, a genre of
music that persists until today with artists such as Jack Johnson, Rosanne Cash and Bruce Springsteen.
All of these artists have music identifiable as folk music, and were able to gain the noteriery they were

In all religions, giving a name for a baby is ritualistic .It can be naamkaran in Hinduism, or christening
or baptism in Christianity, Aqiqah in Islam, or brit milah and Shabbat in Judaism. .It is done in front of
a congregation of relations and close friends assembled in a solemn ceremony. This ceremony
basically reiterates the parentage of the baby and showers importance on the mother for having
brought a new life into the world. The ceremony invokes the blessings of the Almighty and the elders
on the baby. This ceremony is usually flexible in terms of when it is to be carried out and is done

The Silgrim In Dante s Inferno
In literature, as well as in history, there is often a single individual stranded and in need of a helping
hand. This assistance usually comes in various forms, and depends on the context it is needed for. The
support typically guides the individual away from imminent danger, and towards a second chance or
even ultimate salvation. In the first Canto of The Inferno, Dante the pilgrim, the main character of The
Divine Comedy, goes astray from what his culture and tradition consider the straight road and only by
recalling his cultural and personal past he is able to get back on the road towards redemption.
Dante comprehensively acknowledges that he has lived a life of sin, when he decided to record his
story. Halfway through the route of his life, the pilgrim Dante emerges from his slumber, and into a

Pro Choice Vs Pro Life Essay
The terms pro life and pro choice basically comes down to the question of whether a person wants to
see abortion banned or not. But as black and white we may want it to be, there s more to the debate
(Head). The Roman Catholic Church and a wide range of other religions disallows abortion,
euthanasia, the death penalty and war (Head). When a person is pro life , you can say that individual
believes the government has an obligation to preserve all human life, despite intent, viability, or
quality of life concerns (Head). So basically if a girl or woman was raped and got pregnant, it would
be illegal to get an abortion. Another situation would be a pregnant woman s life is at risk if she goes
through with the pregnancy. That person would technically be fines or go to jail for wanting to save
her own life as opposed to keeping the baby and possibly dying. ... Show more content on

When someone is pro choice , that person wants independence with respect to their own reproductive
systems as long as they do not violate the autonomy of others (Head). Pro choice supporters assert
strongly that celibacy and abstinence; Contraception use; Emergency contraception use; Abortion, for
the first two trimesters of pregnancy; and Childbirth to remain legal (Head).I find it very disturbing
that people are willing to abort a child from second trimester to child birth. I find it unethical and
inhuman. Unless that mother has 90 percent chance of dying by keeping the child, they should then
have the choice of going through with it or getting an abortion. I personally think if someone wants to
have an abortion because they were careless, there should be a limit on the timing. Even if it was a
rape related situation, I would still consider the facts: By 21 to 25 days, the baby s heart starts beating
(Spuc). Most people of religion will associate this with life and say that s when the fetus becomes a
person. But the heart only pumps

Additionally, research has been done that examines the perceptions of school counselor effectiveness,
as well as the usefulness of available supervision (Borders Usher, 1992; Henderson Lampe, 1992).
During a school counseling master s education program, there is ample supervision, both on site and
through the university, during the practicum and internship field experiences (Peterson Deuschle,
2006; Studer Oberman, 2006). However, it has been noted that clinical supervision of school
counselors post graduation has not been utilized in the most effective way (Linton Deuschle, 2006).
Several studies have examined the reason behind the lack of effective supervision within a school
setting. Some researchers suggest that there is incongruence between the daily tasks of school
counselors and models of clinical supervision most often utilized (Luke, Ellis, Bernard, 2011). There
also appears to be limited research on whether school counselor directors are being provided best
practices methods of formal education and training for their positions.
Although it is vital to continue to conduct research on the development of professional school
counselors, researchers must also allocate attention to explore what resources are needed to educate
and train a school counselor director to the standards set forth by ASCA and to determine whether
opportunities currently exist to receive this education and training.

Symptoms And Treatment Of Cervical Spine Trauma
As a physical therapist working in an outpatient facility, majority of the patients that I manage suffer
from neck injuries sustained from motor vehicular accidents or a fall incident. Handling patient with
cervical spine injury is challenging as it is vulnerable to further injury should it not be rehabilitated
with extreme caution. It is essential that the clinician should not rely solely on diagnostic reports and
should perform significant detailed assessments that include ligamentous stability tests with
individuals that had cervical spine trauma (Mckinnis, 2014 p. 159). It should be noted that in any
motor vehicular accident it is important to identify injury patterns and trauma protocols should be

during evaluation there is no evidence of any soft tissue damage or any manifestation of fractures, but
one can still end up with long term disability due to back or neck pain. With that, an exhaustive
physical examination coupled with an appropriate diagnostic procedure will give more information
about the patient s condition and guide treatment decisions. This is truly vital because there are times
reports that was initially identified as normal but later progressed into something fatal that might bring
about disability or worse death. For this reason, it is indispensable for medical personnel to have

Smoke Signals
In Amanda J. Cobb s article titled This is What It Means to Say Smoke Signals, the author elucidates
the significance of this film by showcasing the uniqueness of its story, creators, and contemporary
representation of Native Americans in Hollywood film. Cobb brings to light the idea that this film was
not only the first film to be written and directed by Native artists, but that it was the first to exercise
the idea of self definition and cultural sovereignty (207). The paper goes on to compare Smoke
Signals to other films such as Powwow Highway (1989) as well as how its story either breaks old
stereotypes or reinforces others in an uncommonly humorous and relaxing tone. Alongside these
topics, Cobb s piece also touches on critical questions ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As the segment put it, the movie is a classic Hollywood roadtrip/buddy cinema that uses humor to tell
a story of loss and redemption about the two main protagonists, Thomas Builds the Fire and Victor
Joseph (208). The author goes on to more clearly contend the singularity of the film in comparison to
other films such as Powwow Highway in the sense that Smoke Signals did not center around an Indian
and white conflict, but instead it focused on Victor s internal struggles with his father (210). This,
combined with the fact that Native Americans were not only in the film, but also a part of the outside,
introduced the reasons why the film had a unparalleled plot and a set of different standards to meet in
comparison to past films. As Cobb put it, the film had to find a balance in creating a film that had an
implicit political goal, while also being a relaxing American and Native cinema that appease both
audiences and was able to achieve some commercial value. According to the writer, the film was able
to achieve this in the comedic conversations between Victor and Thomas, highlighting a famous scene
of a bus that challenges the stereotypical images of the Indian warrior and medicine man (214). The
film wasn t all breaking of cliche Indian ideas. The author does highlight the argument that the film
enforces the idea of the

The Factors That Play Into Endangered Species
The factors that play into Endangered Species Can you imagine a world without birds chirping in the
early morning or the crickets singing in the silent night or even the plants blooming in the spring?
Now, more than ever, a lot of species are being exposed to endangerment. Right about now, scientists
emphasize forty one thousand, four hundred and fifteen species are on the IUCN Red list
(ARkive.org). The Red list is the world s inventory of the global status of biological species sixteen
thousand, three hundred and six of species are threatened with extinction(iucnredlist.org). A species
goes extinct if it is not able to adapt to changes in its environment, or compete well with other
organisms. Over the history of the earth over 99% of all the species that have ever lived have gone
extinct (paleo.gly). There are many factors that are involved in the endangerment and extinction of
species. This includes natural disasters, pollution, overhunting, fur trapping, and many more. One of
these factors is part of the natural process, but man made causes have sped up this process. What is
extinction exactly? Extinction is the end of an organism or normally a species. The moment of
extinction is considered to be the death of the last of the species, although the ability to breed may
have been lost before this point (wikipedia.org). At that point they are at risk of extinction which is
called endangerment. Endangerment species are those considered to be at risk of extinction,

The Invention Of The 20th Century
Throughout history sculpture has played an important role in people s lives, thus its substances have
changed and haven been shaped by the human hand so as to serve various purposes. In the earliest
stages, sculpture has been identified with statues which represented gods, and later on evolved into
portraits of ancient kings in order to make them immortal and show their importance. Even though
sculpture and its concepts changed throughout history, the first drastic changes didn t occur until early
in the twentieth century, when exploratory international artists began to derive their inspirations from
Cubism and translated collages intro three dimensional objects. Furthermore, over the past century
sculpture has gone through many drastic changes according to the political, socio economical situation
as well as the process of modernization. Thus, from being a figurative concept, sculpture evolved into
abstraction, yet it never lost the power to coerce and move us in a certain way. Heide Fasnacht and
Walter Zimmerman are both sculptors of the 20th century dealing with metaphors and a deep
psychological narrative; however, both use different approaches in conveying their messages and go
through diverse thought processes before creating their sculptures.
Heide Fasnacht is quite an upbeat artist dealing with individual imagination whose themes are mostly
buildings, streets, fireworks and explosions. Her aesthetics are generally derived from the art of the
70s, where the focus was

Network Security And The Security
Hospital Network Security With a multitude of changes occurring in the technology field, it is critical
that hospitals maintain the highest levels of security for their internal network as well as their public
access network. Hospitals contain vital information about patients, treatment styles, employees and
staff, as well as pharmaceuticals that are kept on the premises. The importance of protecting this
information cannot be understated and a breach in security could cause a breakdown in all areas of the
network, having a catastrophic effect on the entire hospital. One of the most important aspects of
network security is a strong network security model. The network security model consists of seven
layers that work together to provide the strongest possible security for the network. The seven layers
are the physical layer, the vlan layer, the software layer, the user layer, the administrative layer, and
the IT department layer. A network security model that is well thought out and designed allows the
network security team to analyze and maintain the network and determine if there has been a breach
and the location of the breach. The first layer of the network security model, the physical layer,
pertains to physical security. This entails the prevention of a physical attack on servers and other
devices connected to the network. The physical layer is one of the most important layers of protection
because if it is breached, the layers beneath it will

ABSTRACT Presented within is a synopsis of the conceptual design, analysis and testing of a
camless engine (CLE) with an electro hydraulic valve train. The system makes use of a piezoelectric
controlled hydraulic actuator. This actuator serves as a replacement for the camshaft in an internal
combustion engine (ICE). In essence, the actuator is an electro hydraulic device capable ... Show more

The concept of variable valve timing has existed for some time. Unfortunately, the ability to achieve
truly variable valve timing has eluded automotive manufacturers. Most variable timing mechanisms
were created as tools for the automotive engineer. Their use was limited to the laboratory as a means
of testing multiple, virtual cam profiles. These early camless engines allowed for the designers to
choose the best cams for the engine under scrutiny, but were less than energy efficient. Furthermore,
they were laboratory machines and were not capable of being mass produced or utilized in an
automobile. There have been a few attempts at developing production models of camless engines,
most notably by Ford, but the use of solenoids has impeded their implementation. Using solenoids to
control hydraulic fluid and ultimately the opening and closing of the engine valves introduces its own
limitations. The solenoids consume considerable energy and are a binary control device they are either
on or off. Therefore the hydraulic fluid, controlled
LIMITATIONS OF THE CAM: NEED FOR VARIABLE VALVE TIMING
Automobile manufacturers have recognized the compromises associated with
by the solenoids, is either flowing or blocked. This design allows for some variance of valve timing,
but is still limited by the response capabilities of the solenoids. Furthermore, it cannot directly address
valve velocity or displacement changes.

The Iliad And The Book Of Genesis
Amidst themes of suffering, war, violence, and sin, the characters of both the Iliad and the book of
Genesis strive to live and define their lives as their own. The women in particular best exemplify this
struggle as they contend not only with the circumstances to which they are born into, but must also
grapple will the role they play in their society and how their actions influence the greater fate of their
people. Within the Iliad, Andromache s role as a woman and wife to a warrior during war contributes
to her actions unintentionally furthering the moira of her husband and ultimately the fall of Troy. On
the other hand, Rebekah drives the plot of Genesis by using her intelligence to manipulate events to
adhere to their version of fate: ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is Andromache s role and nature as a woman who exemplifies the soft side of human relations that
paradoxically reminds Hector of his duty to fight and hastens the fall of both Hector and Troy.
Pitted against the other worldly forces of gods and fate, Andromache demonstrates a desperate
struggle to subvert the inevitable loss of Hector and the fall of Troy. Her role as the wife of Hector
places her within the supposed safety of Troy s walls as her husband fights on the front lines. Her role
predominantly as the wife of Hector, renowned warrior and prince of Troy, creates a sense of constant
worry and urgent anxiety in each of her three main dialogues. Each of these dialogues occur in
accordance to the life of Hector one being before his death, one shortly after his death, and the last at
Hector s funeral. The placement of each of these dialogues demonstrate the importance of the
relationship between the two and, furthermore, emphasizes the potential effects of Hector s loss. The
most moving interaction that epitomizes the tragedy of Andromache s battle between action vs. fate
can be observed in her plea to Hector to leave the front lines. She appeals to his role as a family man
the provider to his beloved wife and father to his son (Ill 6.427 490). However, the tragedy in this
interaction is that the more Andromache attempts to persuade Hector, the more decisive Hector

Plagiarism In Hero By Mariah Carey
Plagiarism the act of using another person s words or ideas without giving credit to that person: the act
of plagiarizing something (An Ecylopedia Britannica Company). Plagiarism or academic integrity is a
well known issue that has evolved with students and their schooling. Not only are college students
involved in this act at unprecedented rate, but students in high school and middle school are as well.
Unintentional plagiarism can be performed unbeknownst to the student. This can take place by
extracting bits and pieces of information from sources such as; books, internet websites, magazines,

There were two copyright plagiarizing cases against this particular song. Two by Christopher Selletti
and another by Rhonda Dimmer. Both cases took place in 1993 and 1996. Selletti claimed that he
presented the song Hero in the form of a poem to someone named Sly Stone. Sly and Selletti lost
contact over the years causing Seletti to perform a poor man s copyright. This consisted of Seletti
mailing himself a copy of his own lyrics. Selletti came across Carey s version of Hero on the radio
three years later and realized the lyrics were similar to his. Carey provided proof to prove her
innocence in court, by providing a notebook with the song dated back to November 20, 1992. The
song was intended for the use of a soundtrack for a film called Hero. Selletti s attorney then provided
proof that Carey completed the lyrics prior to the October 1992 release date of the film. Due to that
fact that proof was brought forth to the court, the judge dismissed the case against Carey. Many years
later Selettie used a different attorney and tried to sue Carey again. In all efforts, the judge dismissed
the case. Rhonda Dimmmer claimed that the lyrics to the same song Hero was similar to hers of the
song titled Be Your Own Hero . In Carrey s defense, Afansiefff stated that Carey and he wrote the
song in two days in the summer of 1992. Soon after the proper documentation was provided,

  • 2. Personal Strengths Of Personal Inventory OT 381 Personal Inventory In general, what do you consider some of your personal strengths? Of what interpersonal skills/abilities are you proud? A personal strength of mine is collaborating well with others. Also, when engaging with another individual, I am able to have patience as well as be an attentive listener. These qualities are important in the field of OT because teamwork is the best approach. Finding the answers to the problems is not going to be independently based all the time. Colleagues help each other out by combining unique ideas in order to come up with the best possible solution. While working with the patient, it is important to have the skill of being a good listener because hearing why they are there and what they are struggling with is necessary for assessing the situation in order to help him/her in the best way. Also, a patient is not going to be completely cured after one session of OT, so possessing patience throughout the entire process is a key factor that all OT s should work towards. When the written story has ended the movie continues with ideas, which may not come from the author. Three major differences of the two are: the mother, the father, and the ending. In the movie the mother, Hester, is portrayed as a loving and self sacrificing person. While in the short story she is exposed to be a cold hearted, and greedy person. Another instance where the short story and movie differ is the role of the father. In the beginning of the written story the author reveals Hester to be a cold hearted mother. She had bonny children, yet she felt they had been thrust upon her, and she could not love them (75). In public she is thought of as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The heartless Hester in the written story never shed a tear when Paul died. Another major difference between the written story and the movie is the character of the father. In the short story the author only mentions him briefly. The father went to town to some office. But though he had good prospects, these prospects never materialized (76). Hester talks about her husband being unlucky frequently, but the husband is never present. Yet in the movie the father plays a moderately significant character. Throughout the movie he is included in the dialogue. He even stands up to Hester a couple of times. Everyday the father goes to work while trying to find a better job. Everyday when he gets home she asks if he had any luck finding a better job. When he reply s that he didn t have any luck, she belittles the job he does have. When the father loses the job he does have Hester and Uncle Oscar both scold him. The most important difference between the movie and the written story is when the written story ends the movie continues with ideas, which may not come from the author. • 5. Walker Art Center Research Paper So what exactly is the Walker Art Center? The Walker Art Center is a contemporary art center in MInneapolis Minnesota. It was established in 1927 and it is also one of the most visited museums in the United States. For this paper I was assigned to visit the Walker Art Center and choose one piece of art to write an essay about. It was my first time going to the Walker Art Center and I found myself in amazement with the all the artwork there. I examined many pieces and found the piece Do woman have to be naked to get into the Met. Museum ? By the Guerrilla girls the most compelling. The Form of this image is huge. When I saw it at the Walker Center in the section of the Guerilla girls it was the biggest of them all. The others were fairly small and put next to each other but this one in particular was by itself and much bigger than the rest. • 6. The Application Of Non Living Things Could Be Protected... Introduction: Non living things could be protected from pathogens by defence chemicals in the form of disinfectants which are applied thinly on the objects and surfaces. For living things, their defence from pathogens comes in the form of antibiotics and antiseptics, the former given intravenously or through oral administration and the latter applied on the skin whatever the indented purpose may be but does still meet the defence required if applied in the right doses(Lee et al). Pathogens on the surface are eliminated physically by disinfectants. The mode of operation comes in the form of chemicals, diluted or undiluted for cleaning and by heating; we have noticed this process used in the milk preservation through pasteurisation whereby milk is heated at a very high temperature to kill pathogens. The application of disinfectants varies widely in use for the different settings. For healthcare cleaning to control and keep out pathogens, ethanol is the number one choice used to disinfect and sanitise floors, operation surfaces and surfaces touched the most by people like doors and door closing aids. The liquid based disinfectant normally gets rid of bacteria if it is in the right dilutions or measurements. There are iodine and chlorine based disinfectants both targeting pathogens. The latter is generally used in water treatment and food hygiene and the former widely used for making surgical instruments to render them free from pathogens, thus sterilisation. Antimicrobial ... • 7. Essay on The Day of the Locust by Nathanael West The Day of the Locust by Nathanael West In The Day of the Locust, Tod Hackett undergoes an internal development relative to his migration. Tod, an architect living in Connecticut, moves out to Hollywood to build scenery for movies. Yet, once he moves, Tod is transformed into a lethargic, non artist who can no longer create his own drawings on paper. His surroundings drive these changes, as all characters in the novel are depicted in a similar fashion. Tod becomes one of the grotesque as well, laughing at the disturbing rather than the humorous. These new features signal Tod s incapacity to return to his old self, as he constantly suffers from his migration. This comes full circle at the end of the novel when Tod is led away from the ... Only when an external force motivates him, like Abe Kusich s plans for moving do, does Tod actually move anywhere. By the end of the novel, Tod wonders if he himself [does not] suffer from the ingrained, morbid apathy he [likes] to draw in others (141). Here, Tod coalesces with the other apathetic Californians; he becomes one of them. These moments culminate in the police car scene when first, the policemen carry him by force to the theatre driveway, and then carry him off in their car. Tod is carried and lifted in this instance; he performs none of the actions but instead, is the receiver of them. Whereas in Connecticut, he took action in his life and studies, in Los Angeles, he can do nothing but that which is done to him. Tod s laughter after hearing the siren corresponds to the grotesque laughter that signals his ultimate failure to recover. When first in LA, Tod views the houses around him as comical: architecture lacking both beauty and romance. Yet, he finds it hard to laugh at these truly monstrous buildings, instead exuding a sigh (61). The artist soon meets Abe Kusich, however, who first laughs at his own joke, using a high pitched cackle more dwarflike than anything that [comes] from him (63). Turning up positive for a neural tube defect for the purposes of my experiment meant that one s baby was born with any kind of neural tube defect; whether it had been at the spinal cord or brain end or whether it had been open or closed did not matter, those all yielded a positive result. The first group of women had been taking the folic acid since their wedding day, the second group had been taking the folic acid since they began trying to conceive, and the third and final group did not start taking the folic acid until after conception had already occurred. The results of the experiment cam out as I had expected. The group that ended up with the most amount of neural defects in their children were the women who did not start taking the folic acid until after conception had already occurred. They, by far, had more defects than any other group. I have drawn the conclusion that since all the groups took the same amount of folic acid throughout the duration of the experiment, the ones who had the most neural tube defects had them occur due to not taking the folic acid before they conceived their children and before embryogenesis began. Another important aspect of the results to note is that the two other groups, the ones who began taking the folic acid right after they were married and the ones who started taking the folic acid when they ... Cook s exploration of the Pacific Ocean contributed to Britain s huge territorial gains, increased wealth, and influenced Europe s romantic fascination with the science of mapping, charting and classifying the world. Cook was a supremely gifted surveyor and star navigator. His discoveries and the accurate cartographic depiction of them, were of incomparable benefit to his contemporaries. Captain Cook made three exemplary voyages of exploration and discovery. These voyages brought unimaginable new views of scientific, geographic, and cultural knowledge to a modernizing European world on the verge of the Enlightenment. Although Cook himself was not steeped in this intellectual movement, which was gradually moving away from the traditions of received opinions and Christian thoughts, the results of his Pacific voyages made major contributions to the scientific and cultural knowledge that led to the enlightenment of his colleagues and philosophers. Cook s explorations and discoveries were indeed new to the Western world, but to the Pacific islanders they had been known for thousands of years. The knowledge Cook provided to his contemporaries in turn, was used to justify colonisation of the discovered lands. This essay will present two arguments. • 11. The Russian Revolution And The Russo-Japanese War The Russian Revolution was one of the most dramatic governmental shifts in European history. Before the Russian Revolution, Russia was an Autocracy. Tsar Nicholas II had succeeded Tsar Alexander III, his father, on May 26, 1896. However, Nicholas II s rule took a turn for the worst rather quickly. After the Russian people lost faith in the tsar, they began to form strikes and riots. The Russian Revolution had effected World War I, caused the Russian Civil War, brought Russia a new way of thinking, and shaped Russia s involvement in World War II. The Russian Revolution was a result of many underlying factors. One of the many factors was the Russo Japanese War. The Russo Japanese War is a military conflict in which a victorious Japan forced Russia to abandon its expansionist policy in the Far East, becoming the first Asian power in modern times to defeat a European power ( Russo Japanese War 1). After Russia lost the Russo Japanese War, Russia understood how ineffective their military was. The military was heavily undersupplied and undertrained. Russia also faced rising prices and shortages on bread. Peasants began to riot and strike against Tsar Nicholas II when they felt that he was not trying to fix Russia s problems. The Russian Revolution of 1905 marked the end of the autocracy. The Russian Revolution of 1905 began in St. Petersburg on January 22, 1905, also known as Bloody Sunday. • 12. The Best Athletes Money, Clothes, Cars Another argument is that these full ride scholarships that are given to the best athletes do not actually cover all of their expenses. When this happens, schools have boosters. Boosters give the college athletes money, clothes, cars etc. Example of that is Reggie Bush, running back for the University of Southern California from 2003 2005. Bush was paid by boosters to attend USC, which violated NCAA rules. Bush was talked about bad when the violations were revealed and had to return his Heisman trophy. While Bush actions were clearly wrong and him returning the Heisman trophy was warranted, its tough to give him much a hard time. At the time, Bush didn t come from much wealth and even with a full ride football scholarship, he could not cover all of his expenses. Bush s mother was having trouble paying rent, so a booster at USC offered to pay for his mother s apartment. Bush felt like he had to take this offer, as there was no other way to make money and pay for his mother s apartment. If Bush were paid for his participation in the NCAA, then Bush would have not had to violate NCAA rules. The last and the most important reason to pay college athletes, is that it will ensure that most college athletes will complete their degrees. Paying student athletes would provide athletes an incentive to stay in school and complete their degree programs, instead of leaving early for the professional leagues (Should Student Athletes Get Paid?). Of course this picture does not begin to characterize Hitler the man, but it does, I think, account for the elements of his style. Beginning in his Vienna period, Hitler was a voracious news paper reader. The style of the Austrian press, as Karl Kraus never wearied of pointing out, was slovenly, illogical, pretentious. Images are rare, and when they do appear, they tend to be purely verbal and impossible to visualize, like the cornerstone for the end of German domination in the monarchy or forcing the less strong and less healthy back into the womb of the eternal unknown. The mixed metaphor is almost a specialty of modern German journalism, but Hitler, with his eyes closed to the visual world, was an expert in his own right. Suburbs are places with community and family and are a very important part of today s society and culture. For many Americans the word suburb conjures up an image of post world war II single family tract homes, products of the age of automobiles and superhighways (American Suburbs Pg1 Teaford, p. 1). Living in suburbs my whole life, I can testify to the fact that the days of the World War II, single family tract homes are gone, and in their place stand mcmansions that are built to satisfy our empty hearts. Although suburbs seem like a great place to live, there are still many problems within them and a huge lack of true Christianity. I strongly believe that many people in the suburbs are living lives without meaning and without God. People turn to suburbs to find happiness in items and people. While maintaining most of the same goals, their approach to solving these methods caused World War I. For example, Wilhelm s attempt to isolate France did not go as well as he had hoped and gave a completely opposite effect than what he was aiming for, as well as angering the other countries. His fumble in Morocco caused him to gain more foes and give France more allies, as well as give him a bad reputation. I m sure it s at least partly to do with that, to do with preparing for the change of pace, that I ve been getting this urge to order all these old memories (Ishiguro, 34). Over the course of the novel, and as the film unfolds, the whole story is told in a series of flashbacks as Kathy reencounters her life. Kathy stumbles over every difficult memory as she grapples with her life while trying to gear up for donations. Living in the past may be easier to do rather than digest that her life has reached its peak. She has outlived Helsham, her best friends, and now is alone to watch over the dying and wait for her time to complete. The only way that she can go back and indulge in a time when things were somewhat easier is by reliving her memories. There she can experience her time with Tommy on repeat, and learn to muddle through all the things that she has lost and all that she has left. • 25. The Dangers Of Cockfighting In Bali When one thinks of Bali, one will most possibly envision the white sand beaches, clear blue skies, calming water and the huge number of Western tourists there. Chances that one will jump into the idea of cockfighting in Bali villages would probably be very low. Cockfighting plays a pivotal role in the life of numerous Balinese men. As Geertz (2005), an American anthropologist suggested, cockfighting is considered as a part of The Balinese Way of Life . A cockfight, in a straightforward explanation, means a fight between two roosters in a caged ring until one of them dies for the amusement of spectators (PETA, n.d.). However, to Balinese men, it means so much more than this it is an obsession that has been passed down through generations. Every year in Bali, there will be legal large scale cockfights in almost every village of Bali. This precedes the renowned public holiday in Bali called Nyepi, where people in Bali are not allowed to go out of their houses and even have to turn off the lights when they are indoors. This is done in order to avoid contacts with influx of demons that are chased out of hell for an instant moment (Geertz, 2005). Pete Seeger Pete Seeger was an American singer, song writer, and activist. He used his music as a social commentary on what he witnessed during the 1960s. Throughout this time, Seeger popularized many influential songs, many of which became popular anthems for different movements, most notably We Shall Overcome. Seeger s songs were normally protesting violence and war, as well as supporting the emerging counterculture and the environmental movement that was seen during the 1960s. With all his music writing, Pete Seeger influenced many other singer/song writers and left a lasting impression on the 60s. Born in Manhattan, Pete Seeger grew up among an incredible talented, musical family. Seeger chose music as his medium of protest, instead of the written or spoken word. In the first Canto of The Inferno, Dante the pilgrim, the main character of The Divine Comedy, goes astray from what his culture and tradition consider the straight road and only by recalling his cultural and personal past he is able to get back on the road towards redemption. I find it unethical and inhuman. Unless that mother has 90 percent chance of dying by keeping the child, they should then have the choice of going through with it or getting an abortion. I personally think if someone wants to have an abortion because they were careless, there should be a limit on the timing. However, it has been noted that clinical supervision of school counselors post graduation has not been utilized in the most effective way (Linton Deuschle, 2006). Several studies have examined the reason behind the lack of effective supervision within a school setting. Some researchers suggest that there is incongruence between the daily tasks of school counselors and models of clinical supervision most often utilized (Luke, Ellis, Bernard, 2011). There also appears to be limited research on whether school counselor directors are being provided best practices methods of formal education and training for their positions. The author goes on to more clearly contend the singularity of the film in comparison to other films such as Powwow Highway in the sense that Smoke Signals did not center around an Indian and white conflict, but instead it focused on Victor s internal struggles with his father (210). This, combined with the fact that Native Americans were not only in the film, but also a part of the outside, introduced the reasons why the film had a unparalleled plot and a set of different standards to meet in comparison to past films. As Cobb put it, the film had to find a balance in creating a film that had an implicit political goal, while also being a relaxing American and Native cinema that appease both audiences and was able to achieve some commercial value. According to the writer, the film was able to achieve this in the comedic conversations between Victor and Thomas, highlighting a famous scene of a bus that challenges the stereotypical images of the Indian warrior and medicine man (214). • 47. Network Security And The Security Hospital Network Security With a multitude of changes occurring in the technology field, it is critical that hospitals maintain the highest levels of security for their internal network as well as their public access network. Hospitals contain vital information about patients, treatment styles, employees and staff, as well as pharmaceuticals that are kept on the premises. The importance of protecting this information cannot be understated and a breach in security could cause a breakdown in all areas of the network, having a catastrophic effect on the entire hospital. One of the most important aspects of network security is a strong network security model. The network security model consists of seven layers that work together to provide the strongest possible security for the network. The seven layers are the physical layer, the vlan layer, the software layer, the user layer, the administrative layer, and the IT department layer. A network security model that is well thought out and designed allows the network security team to analyze and maintain the network and determine if there has been a breach and the location of the breach. The first layer of the network security model, the physical layer, pertains to physical security. This entails the prevention of a physical attack on servers and other devices connected to the network. The physical layer is one of the most important layers of protection because if it is breached, the layers beneath it will ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

(Approved by AICTE, New Delhi) CAMLESS IC ENGINE WITH ELECTRO HYDRAULIC VALVETRAIN AND CRANKSHAFT POSITION FEEDBACK V.PIRANESH, Second Year Mechanical Engineering, piraneshhh@gmail.com ph:9597848518 R.YOGESHWARAN Second Year Mechanical Engineering , yogesh260615@gmail.com ph :9894882579 ABSTRACT Presented within is a synopsis of the conceptual design, analysis and testing of a camless engine (CLE) with an electro hydraulic valve train. The system makes use of a piezoelectric controlled hydraulic actuator. This actuator serves as a replacement for the camshaft in an internal combustion engine (ICE). In essence, the actuator is an electro hydraulic device capable ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The concept of variable valve timing has existed for some time. Unfortunately, the ability to achieve truly variable valve timing has eluded automotive manufacturers. Most variable timing mechanisms were created as tools for the automotive engineer. Their use was limited to the laboratory as a means of testing multiple, virtual cam profiles. These early camless engines allowed for the designers to choose the best cams for the engine under scrutiny, but were less than energy efficient. Furthermore, they were laboratory machines and were not capable of being mass produced or utilized in an automobile. There have been a few attempts at developing production models of camless engines, most notably by Ford, but the use of solenoids has impeded their implementation. Using solenoids to control hydraulic fluid and ultimately the opening and closing of the engine valves introduces its own limitations. The solenoids consume considerable energy and are a binary control device they are either on or off. Therefore the hydraulic fluid, controlled LIMITATIONS OF THE CAM: NEED FOR VARIABLE VALVE TIMING Automobile manufacturers have recognized the compromises associated with by the solenoids, is either flowing or blocked. This design allows for some variance of valve timing, but is still limited by the response capabilities of the solenoids. Furthermore, it cannot directly address valve velocity or displacement changes. DEVELOPMENT ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 49. The Iliad And The Book Of Genesis Amidst themes of suffering, war, violence, and sin, the characters of both the Iliad and the book of Genesis strive to live and define their lives as their own. The women in particular best exemplify this struggle as they contend not only with the circumstances to which they are born into, but must also grapple will the role they play in their society and how their actions influence the greater fate of their people. Within the Iliad, Andromache s role as a woman and wife to a warrior during war contributes to her actions unintentionally furthering the moira of her husband and ultimately the fall of Troy. On the other hand, Rebekah drives the plot of Genesis by using her intelligence to manipulate events to adhere to their version of fate: ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is Andromache s role and nature as a woman who exemplifies the soft side of human relations that paradoxically reminds Hector of his duty to fight and hastens the fall of both Hector and Troy. Pitted against the other worldly forces of gods and fate, Andromache demonstrates a desperate struggle to subvert the inevitable loss of Hector and the fall of Troy. Her role as the wife of Hector places her within the supposed safety of Troy s walls as her husband fights on the front lines. Her role predominantly as the wife of Hector, renowned warrior and prince of Troy, creates a sense of constant worry and urgent anxiety in each of her three main dialogues. Each of these dialogues occur in accordance to the life of Hector one being before his death, one shortly after his death, and the last at Hector s funeral. The placement of each of these dialogues demonstrate the importance of the relationship between the two and, furthermore, emphasizes the potential effects of Hector s loss. The most moving interaction that epitomizes the tragedy of Andromache s battle between action vs. fate can be observed in her plea to Hector to leave the front lines. She appeals to his role as a family man the provider to his beloved wife and father to his son (Ill 6.427 490). However, the tragedy in this interaction is that the more Andromache attempts to persuade Hector, the more decisive Hector becomes ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

There were two copyright plagiarizing cases against this particular song. Two by Christopher Selletti and another by Rhonda Dimmer. Both cases took place in 1993 and 1996. Selletti claimed that he presented the song Hero in the form of a poem to someone named Sly Stone. Sly and Selletti lost contact over the years causing Seletti to perform a poor man s copyright. This consisted of Seletti mailing himself a copy of his own lyrics. Selletti came across Carey s version of Hero on the radio three years later and realized the lyrics were similar to his. Carey provided proof to prove her innocence in court, by providing a notebook with the song dated back to November 20, 1992. The song was intended for the use of a soundtrack for a film called Hero. Selletti s attorney then provided proof that Carey completed the lyrics prior to the October 1992 release date of the film. Due to that fact that proof was brought forth to the court, the judge dismissed the case against Carey. Many years later Selettie used a different attorney and tried to sue Carey again. In all efforts, the judge dismissed the case. Rhonda Dimmmer claimed that the lyrics to the same song Hero was similar to hers of the song titled Be Your Own Hero . In Carrey s defense, Afansiefff stated that Carey and he wrote the song in two days in the summer of 1992. Soon after the proper documentation was provided, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
