Love In A Headscarf Summary
Love in a Headscarf written by Shelina Zahra Janmohamed is a story about her journey in finding The
One which is a partner for her. Throughout her journey, she discovered and learned a lot of things that
brought her to become a better Muslim and woman and has met a lot of guys with different
characteristics. Throughout this book, the author has discussed a lot of topics which include political,
religious and social issues. The author, who is very confident with her beliefs, has stood up and
questioned on a lot of things that she thinks is not right and was not afraid to challenge other people s
view. From this novel, we can see there is an issue arise when Shelina was finding a guy for her.
Shelina practiced her culture s arranged marriage in finding a suitor which is handled by a
matchmaker. The aunties have emphasized on certain characteristics in finding a suitable partner for
both men and women which they believed are the key for the marriage to last long. Some of the
examples are women should not be more educated than men, women should not be ... Show more

She knows what is right and what is wrong and she thinks that the culture need to have a change and
she was ready to take the first step. She didn t care what other people might talk about her even though
she was not married at that time and her actions could jeopardized her chances in finding a partner. We
can also relate to this situation as nowadays, there are a lot of things that is not the way it is supposed
to. Someone should take the first step and that is what Shelina did. The first step might be a very small
action but it could lead to a very big result. In our society, we are too afraid that our actions will be
judged by other people and we don t have the courage to influence other people. We expect other
people to start first, but if everyone had the same thinking, who will be the first one to

Full Range Leadership Development (FRLD)
What I have found most valuable from model three is the Full Range Leadership Development
(FRLD). I found leadership behaviors within the FRLD most valuable because I have two leadership
behaviors that stick out to me. One is a contingent reward; I like to reward my subordinates and peers
with time off or a barbeque when they exceed the standards or goals that I have set for them. I believe
that contingent rewards stimulate comradery in the work center for my subordinates and peers so they
enjoy coming to work. The second leadership behavior that I believe I have is Management by
Exception Passive (MBE P). I believe my MBE P approach to the work center is hurting my ability to
lead because I get wrapped up in my work and cannot effectively

Analysis Of My First Selected Poem By Jane Hirshfield
My first selected poem is a poem written by Jane Hirshfield called The Poet . The Poet is about a
female poet trying to re discover her skill of creating beautiful poems. When reading this poem, the
reader can infer that this poet is in distress and frustrated because the poet sets a depressing mood. You
almost start to feel a little sympathetic for her, but the mood lightens when the poet finds out that her
poems aren t discovered in a calm and perfect situation. This changes the mood from depressing to
encouraging in just a few lines. My second poem is a poem called Starry Night written by Shirley
Geok lin Lim. The poem is focused on a mother and her son s relationship. This particular mother is

Terrorism And Terrorism Attacks
Intro The United States has had its share of terror attacks, whether it was a major destruction, or
simpler destruction. On September 11th of 2001 (9/11), there was a major crisis after learning about
the terror attacks that happened on the World Trade Center in New York. That is one of the most
memorable terror attacks that took place in the Unites States. It was a series of terror attacks that took
place and the Pentagon was also targeted during this time. It was determined that Islamic nations were
targeting the United States to gain insight to their political views. The Islamic terrorist were so pressed
on getting their points across that they didn t care about the lives that stood in their way, including
their own. Thousands of people lost their lives in these two attacks alone and millions were affected.
Since then, terrorism has been a clear problem that has continued to show itself over time throughout
the United States. Terrorism is not limited to the United States, in fact, terrorism has been linked to
different areas of the world like Pakistan, Israel, Japan, and in the Philippines. Terrorism can be
anywhere from bombing, plane crashing, or just plain assassinating, as long as their means were to get
a message across. One example for an assassinating shooting is the Orlando shooting that took place
on June 12, 2016. The shooter was classified as just a gunman to some, but he was classified as a
terrorist to others because of the actions he chose to take. He

A Room Of One s Own
In the passage A Room of One s Own the writer tells what it was like for women to live in England in
the 14 to 16th century. She uses examples like on how there were never any famous poets like
Shakespeare and tell her audience how they were mistreated in this era. Virginia Woolf s introduction
sentence was very vague to the reader. After that first sentence she starts persuading the audience by
capturing the reader s emotions. Mrs. Woolf gets her audience s emotions by describing how the
women were mistreated in this era. Over all she rambles on the same things and keeps making the
same point over and over. Miss Virginia voice is to persuade the audience into thinking that women
were abused in England in this time period. I agree with her

Persuasive Essay On The Importance Of Identity In Society
Priveledged individuals ought not appropriate the culture of a marginalized group. In other words,
people shouldn t dress up or adorn themselves with clothing or objects that belong to another culture
(or in a way that is offensive). This halloween, many parents were cautious about letting their child
dress up as Polynesian Disney princess, because they were unsure of what others would say. Is it
appropriate for a white child to dress up as a Polynesian princess? I would say no. It gives people from
other cultures the impression that you think of them as costumes, and not people. Some important
topicality would be the words:
Appropriate: To take something for their own use
Marginalized: To prevent something from having attention or power.
Privileged: Enjoying special advantages, available only to a select group.
My value, Dignity. It is inappropriate for someone who isn t Polynesian to dress up as a princess from
that race, or any race that they do not belong to. It could be percieved the wrong way, even if the
wearer isn t intentionally deriding those of another race. It shows that we think of that race as just
costumes, and aren t really looking into the deeper culture, as well as the spiritual meaning of their
practices or adornments. My criterion is Deontology. I believe that people that are free and rational
beings should also be able to go about their lives without feeling ridiculed by other races in a manner
that makes them feel uncomfortable, or causes them any reason to feel as if they are being made fun
of.
People from other cultures are getting mocked, and ridiculed as if they are less than a person. Sachi
Feris, a blogger that was mentioned in an article in Opposing Views says, I don t like the idea of
dressing someone up as someone with another culture, because it s like we re laughing at her culture
by making it a costume. This causes reason for fights in racially tense times, which is something none
of us need, and doesn t benefit us in the process. If we refrain from selling offensive costumes that
would cause conflict between other cultures and ourselves, we would avoid conflict that would cause
unsavory relationships with them. If there is a grey area, it is best to just stay out

What Was The Use Of Electric Currents In The 1800 s
The basis of modern day electrical systems were all derived over a quarrel involving the light bulb, the
electric chair, and a 28 year old Croatian immigrant. This dispute involved three of the biggest and
most prominent names in the history of electrical engineering: Thomas Edison, Nikola Tesla, and
George Westinghouse, who were all scientists and innovators who lived during the late 1800s. Edison
and Tesla would get into a quite large argument over the best and most efficient kind of electrical
currents. It would be Edison s direct currents against Tesla s alternating ones. This disagreement
would go on to shape the course of electricity across the country. It would later be known as the War
of Currents. The War of Currents had a great impact ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He took the profits from his inventions and put them towards a company where he could sell
electricity to America (King). Before long, Edison had become a large business mogul with the only
large electric company in the nation. He was popular with the public, unlike his rival Nikola Tesla and
used this to his advantage during the war . He used this popularity to promote DC over AC and spread
propaganda about Tesla and his ideas (Lantero). Edison spread rumors such as that Tesla was working
for a secret German agency, or that he had killed his own mother (Willis). Most of these rumors were
dismissed as false, but a suspicion of Tesla still grew. Edison also tried to sabotage Westinghouse,
Tesla s ally, as well. Westinghouse had a firm and public belief that alternating currents were better
than direct currents, so Edison used that against him. Edison created a chair that alternating currents
could flow through and into the person sitting in it: the first electric chair (King). He stated that AC
was dangerous and should be discontinued (King). Edison even electrocuted a circus elephant named
Topsy to show how fatal it could be (Willis). He then created a term that described death by electric
chair. The term Westinghousing came to mean dying or killing by electrocution, especially in the
electric chair. This furthered the dislike of both Tesla and Westinghouse, and made Edison s DC
systems

Tony Robbins
The quality of your communication is the quality of your life Tony Robbins. How motivating. It
should be because Tony Robbins is a very famous and successful motivational speaker. This quote
couldn t be more true. Good communicators have a very successful life and in order to master
communication, one must understand communication theory. According to the text, Introducing
Communication Theory Analysis and Application, communication is defined as a social process in
which individuals employ symbols to establish and interpret meaning in their environment . There are
many different definitions of communication, but all communication definitions explain the process of
transmitting information, the framework of the information, and the effects of that information.
Understanding communication theory can be very rewarding and very beneficial to people s personal
and professional lives. It can help with public speaking, interviews, relationships, and so much more.
The world is always changing, which means communication is too. Taking a communication theory
class helps students make sense of the world around us, express our wants, needs and desires to others
in an appropriate manner. Employers are always looking for good communicators to hire.
Corporations are noticing how beneficial an effective communicator is for their business. According to
a survey in 2013 by the National Association of College and Employers (http://college.usatoday.com)

Negligence Case
In order to make a prima facie showing of negligence, a plaintiff must show: (1) that the defendant
was under a duty to protect the plaintiff from injury, (2) that the defendant breached that duty, (3) that
the plaintiff suffered actual injury or loss, and (4) that the loss or injury proximately resulted from the
defendant s breach of the duty. Todd v. Mass Transit Admin., 373 Md. 149, 155 (2003) (quoting

Woman´s Right on Abortions
Personal Choices Women s reproductive rights have been endangered from early history. A woman s
job included housework and child birth. Around 1920, women started receiving their choices and
rights. In the 21st century, women are looked at with fairness and receive equal opportunities, but
there is one right being stripped from women: the choice of using birth control and aborting
pregnancy. Society frowns upon aborting a fetus in the womb, but it fails to realize the circumstantial
standing each woman is placed in and should accept the decision a woman decides for her future
whether it is to use birth control or abort her pregnancy. Women today may have more choices but it
has not always been this way. Women of the past often didn t get much a choice about their sexuality
(Bringle). However by 1950s, a pill to prevent pregnancy was created. Though this contraception was
created, it was hard to get. A birth control advocate, Margaret Sanger, attacked legislative restrictions
on birth control , informed many women the uses and positive aspects of using contraception, and
encouraged doctors to give contraception guidance by opening the first birth control clinic in New
York in 1916 (Bringle). Even after the widespread information of birth control, the accessibility of it
today is low. This pill is a necessity for women in today s world and should be made more accessible.
To use contraception, a doctor has to prescribe it and this prescription is rarely covered by

The Movie The Killing Joke
If comic book fans were asked to reveal their favorite Batman story of all time, The Killing Joke
would undoubtedly receive a multitude of votes. For several reasons, Alan Moore s legendary story
has withstood the test of time, most notably because it changed the very foundation of the Batman
universe as it humanized The Joker by giving him an origin story and shocked readers when events
crippled Barbara Gordon.
Thus, it comes as no surprise that a popular story like The Killing Joke is finally receiving the
animated treatment you know, since not every great storyline can find its way into the live action
cinematic universe. In any event, other storylines that have received the animated treatment, such as
Under the Red Hood and Batman: Year One, have proven to be strong, loyal adaptations.
Unfortunately, the same can t be said for The Killing Joke...
In The Killing Joke, directed by Sam Liu (Batman: Year One, Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths),
Tara Strong stars as the voice of Batgirl, Batman s (Kevin Conroy) crime fighting partner. But, on the
duo s latest mission, Batman decides to bench Batgirl when he believes her judgment is clouded after
a newly established gangster on the rise makes things personal. Batgirl vents her anger to Batman,
which leads to an unexpected moment that essentially ruins their partnership.

The Battle Of Verdun
The battle of Verdun has been called the longest and most destructive battle of World War I.
During the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th centuries the field artillery saw many
improvements and technological advancements. Technological advancements like the 1881 MK12 1
pounder which introduced the self contained shell, rear breach loader, and the hydro spring recoil
mechanism. All field guns and howitzers there after followed the same or improved designs until
further technological advancements were developed in the middle of the 20th century. Throughout

Both sides acknowledged the fact that artillery was the number one threat to the infantry. Preparations
were drawn up for what would later be known as the Battle of Verdun code named Judgement by the
Germans. On 21 February 1916 both sides amassed along a 25 mile front and in between them the
small but strategically important town of Verdun. Judgement started with a nine hour bombardment
using 1,200 artillery pieces firing over
1,000,000 shells. There was a standard gauge railway line that ran through Verdun which was called
Voie Sacree . This railway shipped over 2.5 million shells to the forefront. The Germans had advanced
several miles and had overrun the first two French defensive lines just three days after the initial
bombardment. Artillery would fire shells and the 3rd, 7th, and 8th Infantry would follow closely
behind the Artillery s impacting shells until they reached their objective. Once the infantry came upon
their objectives, artillery would stop firing and the infantry would overrun their objectives. This

Project definition:
LEGO is one of the largest companies in Denmark and a company with a very strong brand. But even
so, their economy fell apart in 2003 2004 and we are interested in what they did wrong and what they
did to turn their significant loss around to a profit in 2005. So our problem is:
What caused LEGO s financial problems in and what did they do to turn it around? This is very
relevant, because it shows how even one of the biggest brands in a market can t afford to relax in any
aspect of the value chain. Even though LEGO is a big brand, their profitability is not to be taken for

To answer the problem we used a history of LEGO, made a Value Chain, a SW model and

Knudstorp then realized that the problem did not lie with the product, but with the company s attempts
in the 1990 s to become a lifestyle brand with its own line of clothes and watches and they built more
theme parks as well. By doing this, they started neglecting their core business: the LEGO brick.
Value Chain of LEGO:
In March 2004, Knudstorp launched his dramatic turnaround plan: a mix of cost cutting, philosophical
renewal and back to basics simplicity. This Action Plan was emphasizing three main themes: Set clear
direction for the LEGO Group and fundamentally change the way they do business. Restore
competitiveness by focusing on costumers, in particular their profitability. Reducing the level of risk
by right sizing their activities, cost base and assets to a lower revenue base.
Inbound logistics
Lego has reduced significantly its number of plastic resin suppliers, and has signed longer term
contracts which reduced and stabilized pricing, lowering costs and enabling better planning.
Operations
LEGO has rationalized production lines, reducing the number of products that could be made on each
machine, adding simplicity and reducing changeover costs. It established more fixed production
cycles, and better tied manufacturing to the rest of the supply chain. For example, it was no longer
acceptable to make manual changes in a molding machine without

Persuasive Speech On Hope For Hope
For days, we ve despaired about the fate of the people who are trapped in the North. Today, there is
cause for hope. Only a few hours ago, I received word that a small group of people survived in New
York City against all odds and in the face of tremendous adversity. I ve ordered an immediate search
and rescue mission to bring them home and to look for more survivors.
I Now president Becker kept this promise. The army has sent down a few hundred helicopters to the
north to search for anyone who survived the freezing in the north. Everybody found will immediately
be flown down to Texas to be treated in one of our 365 hospitals to double check that everyone is safe
and healthy. While in the hospitals the police will be taking names to help find family and our friends
who survived while trying to find out who might not have. I will continue to be the president since our
president s plane sadly crashed due to the weather. Our government will stay remotely the same
however we have to move our white house to a different location. The new location will be at the

Exploring the Relationship and Influence between Teacher...
The main purpose of this study was to explore the relationship and influence between a teacher
expectations and student achievements in class. Does that student whom the teacher is always giving
extra lessons and is always more patient with or whom always takes the longest to answer a question,
and is always called on, is he the one who is getting the most out of that class? According to several
studies and experiments they all say yes and student does achieve to be more successful if their
teacher takes a little of their time to help the student and let them answer that hard question with more
time than the other students. Studies have shown that teachers expectations are more likely to
influence the student s performance. The attitude of the teacher can change how they see the actions of
a student and allow them to make different opinions. As shown in Elisha Babad, Frank Bernieri, and
Robert Rosenthal s study (1991) from the book Social Psychology written by David G Myers, students
are very sensitive to teachers facial expressions and body movements (111; bk.ch3). A teacher s
attitude can influence their judgment of a student in class room behavior; namely, their own attitudes
can cause the fundamental attribution error to occur as well as the Self fulfilling prophecy, as reflected
in a student s performance.

other, all giving out different creative ideas when making films. There are many directors these days in
the film industry. The one that has caught my attention and is still doing so will have to be Tim
Burton. With his famous odd looking glasses and multicolored lenses, Timothy Walter Burton better
know as Tim Burton is a well known, and very much successful American film director, producer,
artist, writer and animator. He has a certain kind of consistency in his films, the kind that keeps up
with his theme so to say. He is well known for his dark, gothic and quirky fantasies which are often
portrayed in his movies. His movies are usually very twisted and unexpected which makes it all the
more interesting. Growing up, Burton s parents had a very unsteady ... Show more content on

His work s style, genre and theme makes it iconic and an expressive form of who he is. Take Edward
Scissorhands (1990) for example, who in the right mind would have ever thought about a character
like that? Not only how he appeared to be but also the characteristics that he portrayed as the
character. I feel that Tim Burton has come up with ideas that most people will think it makes no sense.
He takes them and makes them as characters in movies. Many of Burton s movies have similar
distinctive characteristics and techniques, which can be shown in most or all of his productions. In the
past years, Burton has developed many films that are based on his own unique personal style, being
recognized by the film industry as The Work of Tim Burton . (Rowe, 2013) It is safe to say that Tim
Burton is indeed an auteur as people can instantly recognize his

My Personal Continuous Quality Improvement
My personal continuous quality improvement was to adapt healthy eating habits in order to lose
weight. I had a doctor s appointment that really opened my eyes to the risks of being overweight and
continuing with poor eating habits can affect my health and put me at risk for a number of medical
conditions. I used to eat healthier and be within a reasonable weight according to the standards.
However, in the past 6 years, I have noticed a change in metabolism and losing weight has not been
that easy. Also due to the demands of work, school, and laziness, eating whatever at any time became
the norm. I come from a Latino family with medical conditions such as, diabetes, hypertension, and
heart conditions that could be avoided with improving eating habits. I put in place my PDSA, after a
doctor s appointment, where I was told that I needed to lower my BMI. The doctor was impressed
with how high it was, as by looking at me, nobody would believe how high my BMI is. I am
considered curvy and carry the extra weight well. The problem as stated above is the susceptibility to
the above medical conditions. After reviewing my options, the doctor recommended Ideal Protein
program to help me reach my goal of lowering my BMI and losing the extra weight. I am now on the
plan and it allows me to apply the PDSA cycle on weekly basis. I have made some progress and feel
better about the foods that I eat. I keep a flowsheet /food journal, check in with a coach weekly, plan

Goodyear Tires Case Study Essay
Case Study: Goodyear: The Aquatred Launch
Although Goodyear was the leader in U.S. passenger tire market with 15% market share, the company
still had to be very careful in all things done because the competition was so intense. There were so
many players in the industry, both branded and private label. Although, each of them had less than
10% of market share, the second in rank, Michelin, was growing very fast in both replacement and
OEM market. Also, the private label had become the biggest threat for all branded tires since many
branded tire owners intended to replace their tires with private label.

The company could lose lots of tire customers who their preferred outlets had no Goodyear tires.
Although Goodyear claimed not to want its tires sold in low priced outlets, they sporadically obtained
Goodyear tires. Therefore, Goodyear should answer itself first why it didn t want its tires sold in low
priced outlets? Bad image? Then why Michelin, which had its tires sold in low priced outlets, still got
higher percentage from value oriented buyers and quality buyers in the survey of what brand of tires
the owners intended to buy the next time ?
New product launched: Aquatred
Aquatred was a new tire providing improved driving traction under wet conditions. The question was
was it the right product for the dealers and for the consumer, as the industry seemed to be turning
toward long life warranties and low cost private label?
It was also planned to launch during the Winter Olympics in January of 1992. However, the initial
inventory of Aquatreds had been made to fit only domestic cars and molds to produce other sizes
would not be available until several months after the Olympics.
In addition, Goodyear hoped to price the Aquatred at a 10% premium over the existing most expensive
tire. However, as the company research stated that more customers were price sensitive, the company

Dodge Charger Research Papers
The Dodge Charger has become an American classic. If you re in the market for a big, powerful sedan
that is roomy enough to hold the family, but flashy enough to give you street cred, the Charger may be
the right choice. Purchasing the 2010 model from ABC MotorCredit will help you save money and
build your credit without settling for less than the car you want. If you re not sure if this is the right
vehicle for you, read on to learn more about all of its features. Body styles and options The 2010
Charger comes in five styles. Each model shares some features such as a four door design, 16 cubic
foot trunk, long wheel base, and roomy cabin. Base: The base model is a rear wheel drive vehicle that
comes with a 2.7 Liter V6 engine. The basic trim package includes 17 inch alloy wheels, power
accessories, a CD player with four speakers, cruise control, keyless entry, and other standard features.

However, the Charger did not fare so well in side impact crash tests, earning the second worst score
from IIHS. Safety features for the Charger include antilock disc brakes as well as standard side curtain
airbags. Fuel economy Gas mileage for the 2010 Dodge Charger will vary depending on which model
you choose. The base model, with its relatively puny V6, has surprisingly unimpressive gas mileage,
burning through 18 MPG in the city, 26 on the highway, and 21 combined. Compare this to the 3.5 and
Rallye models which have standard ratings of 17/25/20 for the all wheel drive model, and only slightly
worse for the rear wheel drive. Stepping up to the V8 engines predictably decreases fuel mileage. The
R/T has fuel economy ratings of 16/25/19 while the SRT8 comes in at 13/19/15.

Several different factors can affect who develops Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, and it can happen to
anyone. Having a lot of exposure to a traumatic event, like a war makes it more likely that a person
will develop PTSD. Certain types of trauma can increase the chances of someone getting PTSD such
as combat, and sexual assault (PTSD what is). Although medication and psychotherapy help PTSD
patients reduce their symptoms, it remains a difficult disorder to treat. Many veterans suffering from
PTSD see the disorder as a weakness and either fail to report their symptoms, go undiagnosed, or they
drop out of their therapy (Glintborg). So, it remains necessary to find alternative therapies, and
integrating support animals remains a viable option.
Current Treatment Limitations Many different treatments available for PTSD that have minimized
PTSD symptoms. The most common form of treatment being trauma focused psychotherapies, which
has many different forms, to which the most effective seems to be exposure therapy. Its success works
by having patients face their fears, and talking about the traumatic event. Frequently these therapies
are paired with another form of treatment such as medication. Depression and anxiety medication
work best for most PTSD cases. Nevertheless, limitations to the successes of these treatments do exist.

Ted Lavender Characteristics
If you were to ask any individual what their idea of a hero is, they ll most likely give you a perfect
description of superman, but that s the fictional visual that s been placed into the minds of the general
public. What is a true hero? A true hero is selfless, brave, and determined; someone like Ted Lavender.
Lavender was highly respected, he was as brave as he could be without needing recognition, and he
took a bullet to the head. He will never be stripped of his humble and heroic reputation.
A man who puts his life on the line; a man who does what he feels he must do. It s evident that no man
wants to go into war, anyone could run from it like Tim O brien when he was drafted into the Vietnam
War, but Lavender faced a terrifying scenario head on. A hero is selfless, brave, and determined. The
act of fighting in the war automatically makes a hero all of the above; wartime hero s put their life on
the line, they commit to their duties and they never know whether they ll come out of it alive. These
hero s demonstrate many of the characteristics of a hero and they do so with dignity. A hero impacts
all aspects of someone s life and leaves a positive impression, but there s no limit to the amount of
characteristics that could be used to define a hero. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Marriage And Marriage With Cleotilde
In the novel, marriage is more about economic status and opportunity rather than love. Marriage is
supposed to be about abundant mutual love between two people. In this case, marriage is viewed more
as an for opportunity to receive citizenship and a way to improve your of social status. Relationships
and marriage are a common theme throughout the novel.
Obinze s marriage with Cleotilde is one another example in the book of how marriage for men is
viewed as a path to improving your chances of receiving citizenship. Obinzes attempt to marry
Cleotilde was a true fabrication and is not a very good example of what love actually means. When
they first met, Obinze s sense of entitlement, and superiority made in very difficult for him to treat
Cleo as she deserved to be treated. A fake marriage of convenience not for love but for the opportunity
of citizenship is contrary to Obinze s morals. This causes Obinze to have a moral crisis inside and
question the path he has taken in life. Normally marriage happens when two people decide that they
would rather spend time together than apart and would find it difficult to continue without the other. In
a normal relationship couples will from time to time face adversity and together work to overcome
whatever challenges they face, but the adversity faced by the couple in this novel are bigger and more
complex than what other couples would typically face. Obinze is using a woman to gain citizenship
into a country; this is not only

The Canadian Human Rights Act
Introduction
Discrimination is an action or decision that treats a person or group negatively for reasons such as
their race, sex, age or disability (Ministry of Justice [DOJ], 1985). Under the Canadian human right
act, there are 11 grounds a person may be discriminated against. These include race, national or ethnic
origin, colour, religion, age, sex, sexual orientation, marital status, family status, disability and a
conviction for which a pardon has been granted or a record suspended (DOJ, 1985). Employment
discrimination happens when an employee is treated unfavorably because of said characteristics by
employers. It is illegal to discriminate in any aspect of employment, and this extends beyond just
hiring and firing. Society progresses and becomes enlightened overtime, but discrimination is still
quite common. There are many ways that a person could be discriminated against. The Canadian
Human Rights Act calls these discriminatory practices (DOJ, 1985). Examples of said practices
include: Excluding potential employees during recruitment, paying equally qualified employees in the
same position different salaries, discrimination when issuing promotions or lay offs, etc. Left
unattended, discrimination in the workplace can be costly. Victims suffer and employers experience a
loss of productivity, leading to damaged employee morals, and loss of profit. This report will outline
the most common types of discrimination encountered in the work place, the problem they cause,

In the article of How Junk Food Can End Obesity, David Freedman, the contributor editor at the

processed food healthier can contribute to the battle of the obese in our society. Freedman also says
that the food these companies are cooking are making people sick and how it is destructive to an

the obesity and diabetes epidemics that we do... If you re going to let industries decide how much salt,
sugar and fat is in your food, they re going to put in as much as they possibly can... They will push
those buttons until we scream or die. In other words, Pollan believes that we constantly let people put
all of these things in our foods but no one is stopping it.
Freedman believes we can stop this situation by using certain tools and strategies to make processed
foods healthier, yet have the same taste to everything. He states in the reading, If the food industry is

lots of 50,000 pounds. The less than carload rate is $15 per hundredweight. While anything coming
from the Columbus supplier was offered just in time delivery service at no charge to MARS Inc. Also,
this will affect the EOQ s because dealing with the Columbus supplier they were located close enough
that they offered JIT delivery which allowed the reduction minimizing work in process inventories
(waste) by reducing lot sizes in order to increase production efficiency and product quality. Now, with
the change, it will force MARS Inc. to spend money on warehousing and carrying cost due to the one

discount and incremental discount schedules? How would the costs and EOQs differ? Which would be
preferable assuming that both share the same cost figures?
The difference between all unit quantity discount and incremental discount schedules are that in the all

incremental quantity discounts case, the unit purchasing cost decreases only for units beyond a certain

I found leadership behaviors within the FRLD most valuable because I have two leadership behaviors that stick out to me. One is a contingent reward; I like to reward my subordinates and peers with time off or a barbeque when they exceed the standards or goals that I have set for them. I believe that contingent rewards stimulate comradery in the work center for my subordinates and peers so they enjoy coming to work. The second leadership behavior that I believe I have is Management by Exception Passive (MBE P). I believe my MBE P approach to the work center is hurting my ability to lead because I get wrapped up in my work and cannot effectively ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Poet is about a female poet trying to re discover her skill of creating beautiful poems. When reading this poem, the reader can infer that this poet is in distress and frustrated because the poet sets a depressing mood. You almost start to feel a little sympathetic for her, but the mood lightens when the poet finds out that her poems aren t discovered in a calm and perfect situation. This changes the mood from depressing to encouraging in just a few lines. My second poem is a poem called Starry Night written by Shirley Geok lin Lim. • 6. Terrorism And Terrorism Attacks Intro The United States has had its share of terror attacks, whether it was a major destruction, or simpler destruction. On September 11th of 2001 (9/11), there was a major crisis after learning about the terror attacks that happened on the World Trade Center in New York. That is one of the most memorable terror attacks that took place in the Unites States. It was a series of terror attacks that took place and the Pentagon was also targeted during this time. It was determined that Islamic nations were targeting the United States to gain insight to their political views. The Islamic terrorist were so pressed on getting their points across that they didn t care about the lives that stood in their way, including their own. Thousands of people lost their lives in these two attacks alone and millions were affected. Since then, terrorism has been a clear problem that has continued to show itself over time throughout the United States. Terrorism is not limited to the United States, in fact, terrorism has been linked to different areas of the world like Pakistan, Israel, Japan, and in the Philippines. Terrorism can be anywhere from bombing, plane crashing, or just plain assassinating, as long as their means were to get a message across. One example for an assassinating shooting is the Orlando shooting that took place on June 12, 2016. The shooter was classified as just a gunman to some, but he was classified as a terrorist to others because of the actions he chose to take. He ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Virginia Woolf s introduction sentence was very vague to the reader. After that first sentence she starts persuading the audience by capturing the reader s emotions. Mrs. Woolf gets her audience s emotions by describing how the women were mistreated in this era. Over all she rambles on the same things and keeps making the same point over and over. • 8. Persuasive Essay On The Importance Of Identity In Society Priveledged individuals ought not appropriate the culture of a marginalized group. In other words, people shouldn t dress up or adorn themselves with clothing or objects that belong to another culture (or in a way that is offensive). This halloween, many parents were cautious about letting their child dress up as Polynesian Disney princess, because they were unsure of what others would say. Is it appropriate for a white child to dress up as a Polynesian princess? I would say no. It gives people from other cultures the impression that you think of them as costumes, and not people. Some important topicality would be the words: Appropriate: To take something for their own use Marginalized: To prevent something from having attention or power. Privileged: Enjoying special advantages, available only to a select group. My value, Dignity. It is inappropriate for someone who isn t Polynesian to dress up as a princess from that race, or any race that they do not belong to. It could be percieved the wrong way, even if the wearer isn t intentionally deriding those of another race. It shows that we think of that race as just costumes, and aren t really looking into the deeper culture, as well as the spiritual meaning of their practices or adornments. My criterion is Deontology. I believe that people that are free and rational beings should also be able to go about their lives without feeling ridiculed by other races in a manner that makes them feel uncomfortable, or causes them any reason to feel as if they are being made fun of. People from other cultures are getting mocked, and ridiculed as if they are less than a person. Sachi Feris, a blogger that was mentioned in an article in Opposing Views says, I don t like the idea of dressing someone up as someone with another culture, because it s like we re laughing at her culture by making it a costume. Edison and Tesla would get into a quite large argument over the best and most efficient kind of electrical currents. It would be Edison s direct currents against Tesla s alternating ones. Before long, Edison had become a large business mogul with the only large electric company in the nation. He was popular with the public, unlike his rival Nikola Tesla and used this to his advantage during the war . He used this popularity to promote DC over AC and spread propaganda about Tesla and his ideas (Lantero). Edison spread rumors such as that Tesla was working for a secret German agency, or that he had killed his own mother (Willis). Most of these rumors were dismissed as false, but a suspicion of Tesla still grew. Edison also tried to sabotage Westinghouse, Tesla s ally, as well. Westinghouse had a firm and public belief that alternating currents were better than direct currents, so Edison used that against him. Edison created a chair that alternating currents could flow through and into the person sitting in it: the first electric chair (King). He stated that AC was dangerous and should be discontinued (King). Edison even electrocuted a circus elephant named Topsy to show how fatal it could be (Willis). Ted Lavender Characteristics If you were to ask any individual what their idea of a hero is, they ll most likely give you a perfect description of superman, but that s the fictional visual that s been placed into the minds of the general public. What is a true hero? A true hero is selfless, brave, and determined; someone like Ted Lavender. Lavender was highly respected, he was as brave as he could be without needing recognition, and he took a bullet to the head. He will never be stripped of his humble and heroic reputation. A man who puts his life on the line; a man who does what he feels he must do. It s evident that no man wants to go into war, anyone could run from it like Tim O brien when he was drafted into the Vietnam War, but Lavender faced a terrifying scenario head on. A hero is selfless, brave, and determined. The act of fighting in the war automatically makes a hero all of the above; wartime hero s put their life on the line, they commit to their duties and they never know whether they ll come out of it alive. A hero impacts all aspects of someone s life and leaves a positive impression, but there s no limit to the amount of characteristics that could be used to define a hero. ...
