Advantages And Disadvantages Of Photovoltaics
Photovoltaics. Photovoltaic panels that conform to curved or otherwise irregular surfaces offer
numerous advantages over the heavy and rigid panels that account for most of today s photovoltaic
electricity generation. Building integrated photovoltaics (BIPV) could allow photovoltaic laminates to
be applied directly to building surfaces or incorporated in building products such as shingles and
siding.14 Dr.
Harry Zervos of the consultancy IDTechEx observes that it will be easy to go to the local DIY shop
and buy rolled or folded solar panels and fit them in the average family car to take them home. There
will be no need to strengthen the home roof before installing such panels. 15

Emerson Vs Whitman
Transcendental philosophy focuses on the divinity of every person which could only be discovered if
the individual has the freedom of psyche to do as such. Ralph Waldo Emerson and Walt Whitman are
renowned transcendentalist authors whose work reflect ideals of non conformity, self belief and self
worth revolving around the orientation of the American Community. In Emerson s Self Reliance he
argues for individuals to aspire to an original understanding of the world and its functions rather than
cling on to the ideas of the past. Furthermore that there is a divine connection between man and nature
that aids in his perception of what is good and evil, concluding virtue flows from intuition not from
society. Similarly Whitman s Song of Myself ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the first paragraph Emerson says, Speak your latent conviction, and it shall be the universal sense;
for always the inmost becomes the outmost and our first thought is rendered back to us by the
trumpets of the Last Judgment . Emerson believes that all that man needs is within himself and to seek
no answers outside of oneself. Whitman furthers this idea adding you shall no longer take things at
second or third hand, nor look through the eyes of the dead, nor feed on the specters in books...you
shall listen to all sides and filter them from yourself. Whitman and Emerson focus on the value of
forming your own path and understanding your relationship with everything in society to be better off.
They take the stance that institutions like school and church operate in a manner which restrict the
individual. These institutions as a whole being against the freedom of the individual to maintain order
praise conformity. Emerson and Whitman conclude that these institutions intoxicate us from the
invaluable qualities within our self and that is why we should break

My Baby s Heartbeat Research Paper
I felt this way for a couple weeks, until the day of my first doctor s appointment. I went to it alone,
and was laid back in the chair when the nurse put jelly on my stomach, and started moving an
instrument around. That s when I heard it: my baby s heartbeat. I was shocked and taken aback. The
nurse had informed me that I was only 6 weeks pregnant, so I thought it was impossible to hear a
heartbeat already. Hearing my baby s heartbeat took away all worry, and I knew that this would make
me the happiest I had ever been. I would still get the life I always dreamed of, even if it took longer or
was harder than my peers had it.

Everyone can have an opinion, but without action, it means nothing. There are other options available
to those women who become pregnant and do not wish to keep the child. Many couples struggle with
infertility and wish to adopt. Part of the reason teens choose to abort is due to public humiliation from
being a teen mom. If we as a society would choose to remove judgment upon those who are teen
moms, abortion rates would likely drop. Focus should be placed more on sexual education and
prevention. The problem shouldn t be how many women are choosing abortions, but why they need
the abortion in the first place. Are they uneducated about safe sex? Can they not afford protection?
These are only some of the questions that should be asked when considering the

Allusion And Criticism In 99 Red Balloons
Carlo Karges, a German musician and the author of the song 99 Luftballons ( 99 Red
Balloons in its English version) had lived in the period of Cold War, from birth until the time he wrote
this song. This period was characterized by nations being obsessively worried over an unexpected
nuclear attack from enemy nations. As Benjamin Fischer states, such fears were
exaggerated...nowhere in the world were the superpowers squared off in a crisis likely to escalate into
full scale nuclear war. (
A Cold War Conundrum
) The effects of this hysteria inspired Carlo Karges to write this song. The song 99 Luftballons,
demonstrates how historical events shape society and at the same time is an example of how economic
forces intervene in society s ideologies. The song was inspired in a concert of the Rolling Stones as
Gabriele Kerner; the lead vocalist of the band, mentions in an interview: Mick Jagger let the balloons
fly and the balloons flew over the Berlin Wall and that could cause...a war. ( Fox 5 ) Karges uses
allusion and irony to describe how paranoid the military governments were, by referring to how an
innocent act such as releasing balloons into the air, an act that is supposed to bring happiness could
cause a catastrophe such as an attack between neighboring countries. The author also uses metaphor in
the stanza that mentions: People think they are UFOs from outer space, so a general sent a fighter

nutrientes esenciales que eran tan importantes para NatuRi.
Para NatuRi era primordial una cercanía con los refinadores de RBO, por lo cual generó relaciones

Cisco Systems, a Global leading company that manufactures and markets Internet Protocol (IP)
equipment, uses routers to send digital and voice data over the Internet. Founded in 1984 by three
former Stanford University Students, Cisco first found early success by targeting Government
agencies, Universities, and the Aerospace industry. In 1998, Cisco began targeting big businesses and

Don Valentine, one of Cisco s initial venture capitalist with a high tolerance for risk, needed more

turnovers, John Chambers took over the position of CEO. Chambers initiated a strategy to excel Cisco
to its New World Network vision. Cisco became the lead provider of internet based voice, data, and
video computing systems. The following were included in Chambers strategy: 1. Assemble a broad
product line which would position Cisco as a single point for business networks. 2. Systematize
acquisitions to create efficiencies in the business process. 3. Set industry standards for software

Cisco proceeded to implement the plan and grow the IT department and infrastructure. Peter Solvic

Thesis: The Philippines should convert to Federal Form of Government
It can lead to better representation. Each region is properly represented with designation of distinct
regional opinions within federal decision making institutions. This is usually guaranteed by the
specific structure of the Senate known as the Federal Second Chamber in a federal system of
government. The welfare, interests and rights of the constituents in each region is properly

Regrettably, although each local government unit in the Philippines is given funds, they are not
distributed equally. This is so because many factors are considered in appropriating the funds. The
population, the land area, the income capacity and other factors that prevent a small municipality or
city from developing are considered in the budget appropriation. It assures local development. Since
federalism allowed a shared power between national and provincial governments, allowing provincial
leaders will let them focus on developing their own territories. They will have the opportunity to
decide and be given the budget to improve their local community. The rights of the States or Provinces
are expressed and thus, have more local autonomy to develop. Other than this, the income of a
province can be used in its own alone without passing through the national level wherein it may be
restricted for some purposes. It facilitates fast government services. This is because there are two
orders of government, Federal and regional, each in direct contact with its citizens. It is not necessary
anymore to travel in distance just to avail of government services. With the federal system,

Reservation Blues By Sherman Alexie
The United States is a multicultural country that has experienced a rough journey towards building a
cohesive country. Sherman Alexie s story Reservation Blues explores the lives of some Native
Americans who wrestled with cultural, racial, and religious barriers to embrace the rest of the country.
The story reflects the process of racial and cultural integration the country has been going through
since its inception, revealing an underlying struggle by the minority groups in the country to become
part of the Americans culture that is often dominated by the majority white population. The process of
assimilation occurs across all the different groups in the history of the country, and eventually,
contributes to multiculturalism. Therefore, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They often bully the representative of the reservation, Thomas. They do not take Big Mom seriously
by saying that, Shit, ...She thinks she s a medicine woman since they believe Big Mom is just a
woman (Alexie 282). Here, tradition has been marginalized. These Indian youths have virtually lost
their identity as an Indian. Influenced by the TV programs, American Indian youths like Victor began
to chase fame, profit, and emulate images the white media produced for them. As a result, the Native
Indians gradually lose their native religion and assimilate into the white culture.
Moreover, Native Indians have been assimilated into the white society in a way that they lose their
faith in their ethnicity through being willing to mix with whites and enduring the racial discrimination.
For example, Junior has a white girlfriend called Lynn, who chose to abort a baby because she was not
ready to marry an Indian (Alexie 224). Without a doubt, the two races had ideological and historical
conflicts that manifested in their relations. Also, Checkers are eager to be a white girl by saying that I
just looked at that blond hair and blue eyes and knew I wanted to look like that. Even though Indians
experience physical violence, unfair treatment, and prejudice, they endure these experiences.
Consequently, the Native Indian lose their confidence and faith in their ethnicity and fully fallen for
the white culture and values.

The First Ten Days Of College Essay
The first ten days of college are some other experience. When I arrived on campus for the Eagle
Incentive Program it was in the high nighties with some humidity. Moving in wasn t that bad, it was
just extremely hot. I was breaking a sweat walking up and down the Southern Pines stairs. The next
day was time to say goodbye to my family. After giving my mom a big warm hug and a kiss goodbye,
seeing them leave was a weird feeling. As I walked up the stairs to head back in my room the feeling
really crossed my mind that I wasn t going to see her again for another five weeks. It was an emotional
few seconds saying goodbye, but I knew my mom was proud of my accomplishments that I achieved.
Motived to work hard and make her even more of a proud mother; my sad emotions soon turned into
happy thoughts.
Well, it was not long before my mom was disappointed in me. My first week here I actually got
myself in debt and my parents were furious at me. They told me in a serious tone that if that ever
happens again, I will have to make myself money. Money management has already gotten me by the
tail. Back at home, I could spend money here and there because I had a job and was getting paid
weekly. Unemployed now because of moving to Statesboro, I only get 35$ put on my debit card a

Adding 4700 more daily CP would amount to $38,775 in profits per day, assuming a profit margin
$8.25.
Competition:
Competition for CP lies in the Emergency and Rush services. Emergency services received maximum
speed and was the most costly. Purolator Courier Corporation, Shulman Sky Cab, Delta Dash are all
companies that provide the service. However, the average Emergency service cost was $30, and CPs
cost significantly lower. The average Rush cost was around $10, and although CPs are most
expensive, they are at a competitive price by offering competitive advantages. The most specific
service competitor is U.S. Postal Service s Express Mail, which costs $6.00 per package.
How should FEC market CP? Which industries should FEC focus on?
FEC should market to those who are not Executives, as they already have them as customers, but
rather any and all industries. The Manufacturing and Distributing industry uses the most CP monthly,
and we would like to see the other similar industries use just as much. Any industry that transports
small goods can utilize the service.
The 5 minimum purchase costs $62.50, which creates a barrier for those who are willing and able to
send something within a tight time constraint. Envelopes should be provided for free, and charged
upon the actual service of mailing out the package. Corporations enjoy flexibility. We believe that CPs
should be marketed as a product that is great for reliability and speed, making a point that they

concerns about the growing drug abuse problem throughout the world, specifically the abuse of opium
in many of the nations of Asia. This concern led to meetings of several nations whose mission was to

(IoT) product roadmaps from security, healthcare, retail, energy, smart cities, and of most interest is
leveraging IoT to extend the customer experience. This week I will be in the Bay Area with Intel s
Autonomous Vehicle (AV) team getting a deeper dive into their vision for the future of mobility.
Across the board, one of the things that have impressed me most with Intel s overall IoT strategy is
their focus on experience, rather than just on technology although the tech is impressive too.
Moving AV beyond just a science experiment
Intel and it s Mobileye division believes autonomous driving is not a just a product; it is an industry.
As the industry advances, Intel is working diligently to be the tip of the spear when it comes to safety,
technology, standards, and sustainability. Recently, Intel s Mobileye released a framework to help
automakers, technology companies, and regulators to understand the fundamental pillars of safety
assurance and economic scalability in this highly fragmented and heterogeneous marketplace.

Homosexuality in Canada
Research Paper Outline: Homosexuality in Canada
Introduction
Invention is the greatest idea of our time. Whether it is medical, scientific, social, or mechanical, a
new invention of the day seems to be part of our everyday lives. Homosexuality is really no different.
It may not be your everyday invention, but it clearly is and people throughout time to try and identify
the first known homosexual in time. Some people wanted this new idea of homosexuality to just go
away, but as time has gone on, it will not be going away anytime soon. It is getting to be more
prominent in society and this paper takes the stand that in Canada especially, homosexuality is not
seen by society overall as something different. Of course it is still not ... Show more content on

demand regarding equal employment and promotion at all government levels for homosexuals

all provinces. It regarded an amendment to the Charter of Rights and Freedoms to read sexual
orientation as something an individual could not be discriminated against. * December 1977, Quebec
was the first province to issue this amendment, with Ontario becoming the second province in 1986. *
Yukon and Manitoba amended in 1987, and Nova Scotia amended in 1991. * New Brunswick,
Saskatchewan, and British Columbia all switched in 1992; Newfoundland had their amendment read

* June 2001, Leger Marketing and Canadian Press performed telephone interviews with 1507 English

Correlation Between Past Futures And Trading Positions Of...
Time series momentum is important because it is one of the most direct tests of the random walk
hypothesis. During the analysis of time series predictability, deviations from random walk hypothesis
are found in return autocorrelation and variance ratios. Auto covariance exists between time series
momentum and cross sectional momentum and they are related. Over 25 years, time series momentum
is consistent across futures contracts and some asset classes, such as bond futures and commodity
futures. Time series momentum performs better in extreme events and hence, it can be predictable.
Moreover, the paper finds out the relationship between past futures returns and trading positions of
speculators and hedgers, showing that the speculators can ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The return premium is associated with time series momentum and investors can evaluate future
performance by analyzing past returns. It would facilitate the research development and discussion in
financial economics field for time series momentum and validity of random walk hypothesis. (276
words) 4. Theory and data The paper contains several models. To understand the time series
predictability of future returns less than 1 year, returns of time series momentum is decomposed.
Regression analysis and time series momentum trading strategies are used. Regression analysis is to
predict the price movement, i.e. momentum and reversal. To set up the model, the excess return for
instrument is divided by their volatility, so as to be standardized to the same scale. T statistic is used to
test the model. Positive t statistic indicates momentum while negative sign indicates reversals. For
time series momentum trading strategies, the position size of each strategy is inversely proportional to
the instrument s ex ante volatility and the ex ante volatility is kept constant, so as to maintain stability
of the strategy. Pass excess returns are used in the model for computing time series momentum
strategy returns. Then, regression is carried out to compute alpha and evaluate abnormal return of the
strategies. To analyze the return from time series momentum, a single time series momentum strategy
(TSMOM) is used.

Christopher Hitchens s Views On Politics, Culture,...
Christopher Hitchens was a British American intellectual and writer who was known worldwide for
his controversial opinions and provocative forms of expression. His works were published in a number
of books and in multitudes of magazines, such as Vanity Fair, Slate, and The Atlantic, just to name a
few. However, a large portion of his time was spent actively expressing his opinions in televised
debates, public forums, and university speeches. His interest in political science after graduating from
Balliol College in Oxford molded his ideas into a general theme of anti authoritarianism. This theme
was very well imbedded into his career, for he wrote much about politics, culture, religion, and
literature. As a critic of both society and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This, in turn, gives his argument much more weight and validity. The ability to capture such an
audience requires a great deal of scholarly language, which he accomplishes by utilizing his wide
vocabulary. His work is loaded with words like scrupulous, refractory, sanguinary, ( The Real
Mahatma Gandhi ), fatuous, and invocations ( Free Speech ). The use of such words gives his
arguments a sense of sophistication, which serves to make his arguments sound legitimate.
Furthermore, through scathing remarks about his subject, his humorously brutal tone serves to engage
and entertain his audience. Witty comments, such as But the two greatest achievements of Austria are
to have convinced the world that Hitler was German and that Beethoven was Viennese, allow Hitchens
to discredit his subject and say that it has not had any real accomplishments. Altogether, he
demonstrates that valid criticism of anyone can be entertaining, yet scholarly.
One distinct style that set Hitchens apart from most thought provoking scholars is his use of obscene
and politically incorrect language. This works to shock the reader and to engage them even further. In
his Vanity Fair essay, Why Women Aren t Funny, he discourteously insists that most humorous women
are hefty or dykey or Jewish, or some combo of the three ( Why Women Aren t Funny ). Hitchens is

Descriptive Essay About A Restaurant
Gazing out the summer heat surrounded by the bold skyline, the rest of the city appears flat as if the
skyscrapers are all that stands. The soundtrack of the thriving brightly lit city plays beneath. The
constant high pitched notes of long blaring horns and traffic whisking by being enough to feel
overwhelmed even without the breathtaking view. Dining often at this luxury rooftop, I have been able
to see the unsettling truth, my own rushed reflection.
There is a long row with two small sized black sofa s sitting across from each other in the middle,
there is a glass table set with a flower arrangement long enough to reach from one end of the couch to
the other. With my laptop bag in one hand waiting at the hostess stand, I feel relieved, when I see that
there is seating all the way at the end away from the loud laughing crowd for me to choose. The
hostess has been viewing the arrangement of seating for the restaurant for what seems like forever to
decide where to seat me. I repeatedly look at my watch having reached such a high level of frustration
with waiting for the hostess to pick where she would like to have me seated. Everyone waiting to enter
the restaurant behind me jumps and directs their attention to me as a loud BOOM! Is heard, my hand
slams down on top of the hostess seating chart that she has been studying for the past decade to decide
where I should be seated. Loose papers and pens fly like confetti. Looking her in the eyes and fiercely

The Importance Of Birth Control
Louise Slaughter, a New York congresswoman, once wrote, for most women, including women who
want to have children, contraception, is not an option, it is a basic health care necessity . In other
words, Slaughter believes that for many women, no matter their decision on child bearing,
contraceptives are are essential to their health. In short, contraception is just as important as a routine
check up with a primary doctor. Furthermore, birth control serves more than one purpose;
contraception controls if or when women reproduce but is also used to treat medical conditions, such
as, endometriosis, and irregular menstruation. Although, the first birth control clinic was opened in
Brooklyn, New York in 1916 by Margaret Sanger, the fight for reproductive freedom and the complete
legalization of contraception would not end until the 1960s. Merely ten days after opening the clinic,
Sanger and employees were arrested for breaking the Comstock Law. The Comstock Law, which was
passed in 1873, prohibited and restricted advertisements and sales of information, and materials, that
could be used as contraception. Although the odds were against her in the fight for legal birth control,
Sanger reopened the clinic; however, Sanger was arrested a second time and was charged with
maintaining a public nuisance according to the Margaret Sanger Paper Project. Regardless of being
arrested twice before, Sanger reopened the clinic a third time. Consequently, the police forced Sanger

Comparing Cave Prisoners And Neo Leaving The Matrix
Once the cave prisoners and Neo are released from their state of ignorance, they start to become more
understanding of the outside world, as represented by the cave dwellers escaping the cave, and Neo
leaving the matrix. As the prisoners are in the cave, watching the shadows pass on the wall, one of
their prisoners is released from the shackles. Because of his natural curiosity, the prisoners turns his
head to look outside the cave. Whilst looking outside the cave, the light from outside and will cause
him to suffer sharp pains; the glare will distress him, and he will not be able to see the realities of
which in his former state he had seen the shadows (33 35). Because of the looming darkness always
present in the cave, the bright light of the sun blinds the prisoner momentarily. ... Show more content

In the prisoner s past state, the shadows were his reality, but when the prisoner goes outside for the
first time do the shadows of the past slip away and become a ghost of the world he once knew. The
prisoners leaving the cave and experiencing a new world can be similar to how Neo reacts once he
leaves the cave and enters the matrix. When Neo first meets Morpheus, he is given the option of
choosing a red pill or a blue pill. The red pill represents the world outside of the Matrix, and Neo s
possibly last chance to escape this world where he currently resides in. The blue pill represents Neo s
desire to stay in the matrix, where everything he knows is. Neo ends up taking the red pill, and is

My Papa s Waltz Essay
At first glance, My Papa s Waltz by Theodore Roethke is very intriguing as the poem is very
ambiguous at first. Many people that read the poem at first believe it to be about child abuse, which is
very easy for readers of the 21st generation to confuse as we see everything with a dark meaning
behind it. The poem is about a boy who dances with his father, hence the name of the poem My Papa s
Waltz . Once the poem has been reread several times, we can take a closer look at what Roethke is
really implying in the poem. Therefore, it becomes clear to the audience that the poem has a lighter
meaning and has a more positive outlook than a negative outlook to the situation occurring in the
poem. In the first two stanzas, the speaker, who is a very ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The poem is much more innocent than what the modern reader may think. We can start off by looking
at the title of the poem My Papa s Waltz. A waltz is a ballroom and folk dance. Clearly, the speaker of
the poem is speaking about his father and the dance. In the first stanza, the speaker explains how such
waltzing with his father is not easy, as speaker s father has had a little too much whiskey, which made
the waltzing a little difficult as the father was under the influence and probably had difficulties
keeping his balance. If we read on to the next stanza, it shows father is all over the place and having
trouble keeping balance while dancing with his son in the kitchen. Mother seems to be upset about the
situation, but only because pots and pans slid from the kitchen shelf onto the floor from all the
romping. As we move on to the next stanza, the speaker explains how fathers knuckle is battered,
which is most likely a result of injury from romping in the kitchen. Speaker also speaks about his right
ear being scraped with every step his father missed. This could be because the speaker was a young,
short boy who reached his father s waistline and as they danced roughly the buckle will scrape his

Framingham Heart Study Summary
1.) The Framingham Heart Study was a long term observational Study that succeeded so incredibly
well over the past half century, because it made its participants feel as if they were collectively
dedicated toward an end bigger than themselves (Brink and Levy 23). This entire trust and personal
investment mobilizations effort had been completely intentional and calculated as a purposeful
construction in order to [transform] a community that might resist medical intrusion to one that would
take pride in the Study (Brink and Levy 58). We see, very notably also, that Meador s success in
attracting attention was owed to his skill for mobilizing social influence (that which we refer to as

People do (Krieger 17). Thus, we recognize that the social categories such as ethnicity, socioeconomic
status, class, and gender will implicitly also color the means by which active thinking behind the act of

social reality we are steeped in (that we owe to presence of a collective conscience) reproduces itself
in the epistemological the all too subjective pursuance and cultivation of knowledge regarding our
objective, external reality. Such a ubiquitous pressure, thus, also finds a way to assert itself into a
seemingly objective, knowledge based decision regarding when data is to be omitted or not omitted
(especially, in regards to the aforementioned social categories). Thus, fact is based very far from Fact
that is, the objective facticity of a external, continuously unfolding reality to be parsed through and
made sense of by minds and subjectivities helplessly, absurdly oriented toward the past and toward the
actions of their cognitive forefathers. And this makes social movements all the more difficult when
oftentimes what is portrayed as objective and uncontestable is the product of the very social structures
and inequalities that the health social movement is

How Statistics Is Important For The Quality Of Data
Statistics is well defined as a division of mathematics and is most often used to explain, analyze, and
summarize as well as interpret what we perceive in order to make sense or meaning of our
interpretations. Every day we encounter statistics that originate from various forms and behaviors.
Which means that to in order for all of the information gathered to make sense, there would
realistically be no need for the use of statistics. Conversely, due to its focus and pragmatic on
applications, statistics is characteristically considered a distinctive mathematical science rather than a
division of mathematics (Chance et al, 2005). Therefore, some measures a statistician utilizes are less
mathematical; for example, ensuring data collection is conceded in a manner that yields valid
conclusions, recording results, or coding data in behaviors understandable to the users. Statistics has
been recognized to improve the quality of data by forming specific survey samples and experiment
strategies. It also offers tools used to forecast the use of data as well as statistical models. It is
appropriate in many academic arenas that consist of business, social and natural sciences, and
government, to list a few.
Descriptive statistics are wholly used to define the sample under study; they are used essentially to
describe the fundamental characteristics of a prearranged data. Descriptive statistics offer modest
summaries concerning the measures as well as the samples. When applied in

Photovoltaic panels that conform to curved or otherwise irregular surfaces offer numerous advantages over the heavy and rigid panels that account for most of today s photovoltaic electricity generation. Building integrated photovoltaics (BIPV) could allow photovoltaic laminates to be applied directly to building surfaces or incorporated in building products such as shingles and siding.14 Dr. Harry Zervos of the consultancy IDTechEx observes that it will be easy to go to the local DIY shop and buy rolled or folded solar panels and fit them in the average family car to take them home. Ralph Waldo Emerson and Walt Whitman are renowned transcendentalist authors whose work reflect ideals of non conformity, self belief and self worth revolving around the orientation of the American Community. In Emerson s Self Reliance he argues for individuals to aspire to an original understanding of the world and its functions rather than cling on to the ideas of the past. Whitman furthers this idea adding you shall no longer take things at second or third hand, nor look through the eyes of the dead, nor feed on the specters in books...you shall listen to all sides and filter them from yourself. • 5. Allusion And Criticism In 99 Red Balloons Carlo Karges, a German musician and the author of the song 99 Luftballons ( 99 Red Balloons in its English version) had lived in the period of Cold War, from birth until the time he wrote this song. This period was characterized by nations being obsessively worried over an unexpected nuclear attack from enemy nations. As Benjamin Fischer states, such fears were exaggerated...nowhere in the world were the superpowers squared off in a crisis likely to escalate into full scale nuclear war. ( A Cold War Conundrum ) The effects of this hysteria inspired Carlo Karges to write this song. The song 99 Luftballons, demonstrates how historical events shape society and at the same time is an example of how economic forces intervene in society s ideologies. The song was inspired in a concert of the Rolling Stones as Gabriele Kerner; the lead vocalist of the band, mentions in an interview: Mick Jagger let the balloons fly and the balloons flew over the Berlin Wall and that could cause...a war. ( Fox 5 ) Karges uses allusion and irony to describe how paranoid the military governments were, by referring to how an innocent act such as releasing balloons into the air, an act that is supposed to bring happiness could cause a catastrophe such as an attack between neighboring countries. The author also uses metaphor in the stanza that mentions: People think they are UFOs from outer space, so a general sent a fighter ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

During the analysis of time series predictability, deviations from random walk hypothesis are found in return autocorrelation and variance ratios. Auto covariance exists between time series momentum and cross sectional momentum and they are related. Over 25 years, time series momentum is consistent across futures contracts and some asset classes, such as bond futures and commodity futures. Time series momentum performs better in extreme events and hence, it can be predictable. Moreover, the paper finds out the relationship between past futures returns and trading positions of speculators and hedgers, showing that the speculators can ... It would facilitate the research development and discussion in financial economics field for time series momentum and validity of random walk hypothesis. (276 words) 4. Theory and data The paper contains several models. To understand the time series predictability of future returns less than 1 year, returns of time series momentum is decomposed. Regression analysis and time series momentum trading strategies are used. Regression analysis is to predict the price movement, i.e. momentum and reversal. To set up the model, the excess return for instrument is divided by their volatility, so as to be standardized to the same scale. T statistic is used to test the model. Positive t statistic indicates momentum while negative sign indicates reversals. For time series momentum trading strategies, the position size of each strategy is inversely proportional to the instrument s ex ante volatility and the ex ante volatility is kept constant, so as to maintain stability of the strategy. Pass excess returns are used in the model for computing time series momentum strategy returns. Then, regression is carried out to compute alpha and evaluate abnormal return of the strategies. To analyze the return from time series momentum, a single time series momentum strategy (TSMOM) is used. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 24. Christopher Hitchens s Views On Politics, Culture,... Christopher Hitchens was a British American intellectual and writer who was known worldwide for his controversial opinions and provocative forms of expression. His works were published in a number of books and in multitudes of magazines, such as Vanity Fair, Slate, and The Atlantic, just to name a few. However, a large portion of his time was spent actively expressing his opinions in televised debates, public forums, and university speeches. His interest in political science after graduating from Balliol College in Oxford molded his ideas into a general theme of anti authoritarianism. This, in turn, gives his argument much more weight and validity. The ability to capture such an audience requires a great deal of scholarly language, which he accomplishes by utilizing his wide vocabulary. His work is loaded with words like scrupulous, refractory, sanguinary, ( The Real Mahatma Gandhi ), fatuous, and invocations ( Free Speech ). The use of such words gives his arguments a sense of sophistication, which serves to make his arguments sound legitimate. Furthermore, through scathing remarks about his subject, his humorously brutal tone serves to engage and entertain his audience. Witty comments, such as But the two greatest achievements of Austria are to have convinced the world that Hitler was German and that Beethoven was Viennese, allow Hitchens to discredit his subject and say that it has not had any real accomplishments. Altogether, he demonstrates that valid criticism of anyone can be entertaining, yet scholarly. One distinct style that set Hitchens apart from most thought provoking scholars is his use of obscene and politically incorrect language. This works to shock the reader and to engage them even further. In his Vanity Fair essay, Why Women Aren t Funny, he discourteously insists that most humorous women are hefty or dykey or Jewish, or some combo of the three ( Why Women Aren t Funny ). • 25. Descriptive Essay About A Restaurant Gazing out the summer heat surrounded by the bold skyline, the rest of the city appears flat as if the skyscrapers are all that stands. The soundtrack of the thriving brightly lit city plays beneath. The constant high pitched notes of long blaring horns and traffic whisking by being enough to feel overwhelmed even without the breathtaking view. Dining often at this luxury rooftop, I have been able to see the unsettling truth, my own rushed reflection. There is a long row with two small sized black sofa s sitting across from each other in the middle, there is a glass table set with a flower arrangement long enough to reach from one end of the couch to the other. With my laptop bag in one hand waiting at the hostess stand, I feel relieved, when I see that there is seating all the way at the end away from the loud laughing crowd for me to choose. The hostess has been viewing the arrangement of seating for the restaurant for what seems like forever to decide where to seat me. I repeatedly look at my watch having reached such a high level of frustration with waiting for the hostess to pick where she would like to have me seated. Everyone waiting to enter the restaurant behind me jumps and directs their attention to me as a loud BOOM! Is heard, my hand slams down on top of the hostess seating chart that she has been studying for the past decade to decide where I should be seated. Loose papers and pens fly like confetti. The Importance Of Birth Control Louise Slaughter, a New York congresswoman, once wrote, for most women, including women who want to have children, contraception, is not an option, it is a basic health care necessity . In other words, Slaughter believes that for many women, no matter their decision on child bearing, contraceptives are are essential to their health. Furthermore, birth control serves more than one purpose; contraception controls if or when women reproduce but is also used to treat medical conditions, such as, endometriosis, and irregular menstruation. Although, the first birth control clinic was opened in Brooklyn, New York in 1916 by Margaret Sanger, the fight for reproductive freedom and the complete legalization of contraception would not end until the 1960s. Merely ten days after opening the clinic, Sanger and employees were arrested for breaking the Comstock Law. The Comstock Law, which was passed in 1873, prohibited and restricted advertisements and sales of information, and materials, that could be used as contraception. Although the odds were against her in the fight for legal birth control, Sanger reopened the clinic; however, Sanger was arrested a second time and was charged with maintaining a public nuisance according to the Margaret Sanger Paper Project. In the first stanza, the speaker explains how such waltzing with his father is not easy, as speaker s father has had a little too much whiskey, which made the waltzing a little difficult as the father was under the influence and probably had difficulties keeping his balance. If we read on to the next stanza, it shows father is all over the place and having trouble keeping balance while dancing with his son in the kitchen. Mother seems to be upset about the situation, but only because pots and pans slid from the kitchen shelf onto the floor from all the romping. As we move on to the next stanza, the speaker explains how fathers knuckle is battered, which is most likely a result of injury from romping in the kitchen. How Statistics Is Important For The Quality Of Data Statistics is well defined as a division of mathematics and is most often used to explain, analyze, and summarize as well as interpret what we perceive in order to make sense or meaning of our interpretations. Every day we encounter statistics that originate from various forms and behaviors. Which means that to in order for all of the information gathered to make sense, there would realistically be no need for the use of statistics. Conversely, due to its focus and pragmatic on applications, statistics is characteristically considered a distinctive mathematical science rather than a division of mathematics (Chance et al, 2005). Therefore, some measures a statistician utilizes are less mathematical; for example, ensuring data collection is conceded in a manner that yields valid conclusions, recording results, or coding data in behaviors understandable to the users. Statistics has been recognized to improve the quality of data by forming specific survey samples and experiment strategies.
