Essay On Annotated Bibliographies
When first brainstorming what topic I was going to pick for each annotated bibliography, it took me a
while before I settled on a topic for each essay. While reflecting on my writing process, I came to the
conclusion that more time would have definitely benefited my argument for each of these annotated
bibliographies. If I had more time on each of these essays, I would have looked in more databases to
try and find a wider variety of sources to argue each point. Since I can not search across all the
databases at once, I picked out what looked to be the best database for each topic. For example, my
public argument is on abortion, so I went straight to the sociology database. My other argument was
about blockchain technology, so I went do my ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While doing this, I found out that some of the sources were not what I thought they were going to be.
For example, one of the sources for my public argument seemed like it was against abortion, but once
I got to the end, I found out that the author was actually for abortion. I had this problem while writing
both of my essays, so I had to go back to the databases to find new sources. I think the most important
change I made during the writing process was changing a few of my sources to ones that would better
validate the arguments in each annotated bibliography. After searching within the database for a while,
I was able to find other articles that gave me a wider range of information and statistics to choose
from. If I would have not taken the time to go back and find sources that would better fit my
argument, I would have needed to do it later in the writing process of each essay. Because of this, I
went back for both of my annotated bibliographies and replaced some of the sources that I thought
were good at first, but after reading more into them I found that they did not provide me with the
evidence I

Women s Role Models And Become Leaders
There are legion women who serve as role models and become leaders. Women are survivors with
unique inner strength who pose to achieve it all without complaining. Likewise, the women are
mounting the leadership ladder in the male dominated industries related to Finance, Federal
Departments and Technology. In the United States, women synthesize a majority of the population
earning higher college degrees as compared to men, yet holding only 19.2% top executive positions in
the corporate world according to Forbes. There prevails bit evidence that a status of women in the
workplace has improved in recent years and the gap between salaries has begun to lessen. Majority

Women entered the labor force during the 1960 s and tend to stay longer in the workforce before
having a family. When it comes to uniformity and rationality, women are still suppressed. Our society
stereotypes that women are meant to be working under men. Barriers to leadership opportunities are a
worldwide phenomenon where females are disproportionately engrossed in a lower level and curtailed
authoritative leadership positions. The leadership opportunities for women in corporate America do
not correlate with their population rate. In the United States, they form the largest population, which
subsist 50.8% and earning 60% of all master s degrees. Even earning higher degrees, they are only at
19.2% in corporate field reached C level. Consequently, they are still a minority in the executive
world. Nevertheless, the numbers are growing in the positive direction. No one can make you feel
inferior without your consent. Says the First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt.
According to Catalyst survey, women possess enhanced skill sets than men; they are still a meager
number in the corporate America. Why? The Glass ceiling and Glass cliff are the reasons why.
According to Harvard Business School research, The Glass ceiling is a barrier, so subtle that it
remains transparent, yet so strong that it prevents women from moving up the corporate hierarchy. On
the other hand, the glass cliff describes the phenomenon of women in leadership roles such as C level,

The Myths And Beliefs Of Marijuana Essay
Living in the 21st Century, a majority of the laws and regulations that guide our daily lives have
already been legitimized and written decades ago. Although a large portion of these laws still exist
today, there is always need to revise and rewrite laws. In this article I will talk about the myths and
beliefs of marijuana and compare them to reliable sources to form an opinion on whether or not
marijuana is a relatively safe drug for medical and recreational use along with the physical and social
effects to the user and their environment. Regard, this paper will not focus on any other associated
topics such as the price of prisons, annual marijuana dispensary revenue, drug trafficking or law
policy s. However many of the used articles compare and contrast the use of alcohol to cannabis. In
the article Marijuana Use and Alcohol Use Are Dangerous for Society , Sven Olov Carlsson writes a
letter to president Barack Obama informing him on the dangers of marijuana and alcohol use to
societies. Carlsson is president of IOGT International, a politically independent organization that
advocates for a world free of alcohol and other drugs; he is the international president of the World
Federation Against Drugs. In his letter, Carlsson briefs marijuana as highly dangerous for the users
mental health and well being along with their community. He believes the thought of making cannabis
regulated would lead to a disaster because alcohol is poorly regulated. And the fact that

Which techniques do J. D. Salinger and David Fincher use to explore the personal dilemmas of their
protagonists, Holden Caulfield and Mark Zuckerberg, in The Catcher in the Rye and The Social
Network?
In David Fincher s The Social Network and J. D. Salinger s The Catcher in the Rye, a story of two
young men, Holden Caulfield and Mark Zuckerberg face many difficulties and ultimately are very
vulnerable souls. The dilemmas that Holden and Mark face are alienation, betrayal and identity.
Fincher and Salinger both use many techniques in order to highlight these dilemmas, including setting,
the theme of friendship/loyalty and symbolism.

Mark, unlike Holden was the character in the narrative to betray a fellow character. Mark allowed or
agreed with Sean Parker that Eduardo had to be punished for freezing the account linked to the
company but in the process betrayed the friendship between himself and Eduardo. Even though Mark
may have not been on hundred percent on the decision of dropping Eduardo s share, he still decided to
betray his loyalty of Eduardo by choosing Sean instead, who in the end also betrays Mark. In this case,
it seems that most friendships in The Social Network were never meant to survive; all were meant to
crash and burn. For Holden, he basically expects most people to betray him, he expects most people to
be phoneys and expects all innocence to be lost in most children. Holden constantly feels betrayed
with most of the other characters in the story, which could definitely be a main cause to his mental
problems. Early in the novel, Mr Spencer betrays him. He was one of the few teachers at his school
that Holden could relate with and trust. Spencer had told Holden of his expulsion, and Holden felt
betrayed by his teacher. When Holden returns home to see Phoebe, his young sister, she is
disappointed in him that he had failed to stay in Pency. He thinks that she should accept and be loyal
to him unconditionally, so he feels betrayed. This shows that Holden really could not depend on

Time available to finish planks for Norm Sullivan: 4.5 hours per week x 52 weeks = 234 hours (14040
minutes)
In that time he can create (with the table saw): 14040 minutes available /15 minutes required per board
= 936 planks
In that time he can create (with the router): 14040 minutes available / 14 minutes required per board =
1002 planks.
Neither of these options is going to be sufficient to meet his production need of 1200 planks for the
upcoming year.
What if he were to hire more workers? This would reduce the production time per plank and make it
likely that he would be able to reduce the production time per board. For each worker he would be
looking at $5200 per year.
His projected sales for the year:
1200 planks
10 feet each @ $6.00 per foot = $60 per plank Therefore, 1200 x 60 = $72000 His projected profit
margin = 50%
Therefore 50/100* 72000=
$36000 in profit for the year.

The Effects Of Parental Species On Aberrant Playback
While parental species responded more to conspecific songs than heterospecific songs, we found no
difference in the responses of parental species to aberrant playback. A previously mentioned study of
two closely related species of African doves found that birds showed more response to conspecific
vocalizations than to heterospecific playback, and found that response to hybrid vocalizations was
intermediate (den Hartog et al. 2007). While our results aren t statistically significant for intermediate
response, the trends do suggest that parental species respond with more vocalizations, and approach
the speaker closer to conspecific vocalizations. With a marginally significant result for BCCH
responding with more vocalizations to BCCH song ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He found that responses of allopatric birds were determined by syllabic cues and not by the temporal
pattern of the song (Baker 1991). As these aberrant chickadee vocalizations may contain
characteristics of both parental song types (Enstrom and Bollinger 2009), we would expect some type
of response from, for example, a BCCH if an aberrant vocalization contained BCCH like elements
(e.g. slower song frequency, lower pitch interval, lower number of notes per song, etc.). It is possible
that response from parental species to these aberrant vocalizations also varies based on the structure of
the song being presented. The majority of the aberrant song types recorded in Illinois contain
introductory phrases that are similar to typical BCCH song. Perhaps most notably, the Greenville
dialect starts with a two note phrase that is similar in frequency to a typical BCCH song (Enstrom and
Bollinger 2009). However, the phrase duration is shorter and more similar to a typical CACH song.
With aberrant vocalizations containing elements of both parental song types, a parental bird could be
responding to a particular phrase or other element within the song which elicits a response similar to a
true conspecific song. Further investigation would be necessary to compare responses from partial
songs or from playbacks that have been manipulated to express different song characteristics.
As expected, our results indicate that

The Impact Of The Revenue Act Of 1932
On a day known as Black Tuesday, October 29, 1929, will always be a day the people of the United
States will always remember. The stock markets were increasing for a decade, when it had plunged on
Black Tuesday. Some people had lost everything, from the houses they owned or their jobs to banks
crashing, this became a depressing time, known as the Great Depression. At this time Herbert Hoover
was in control, and he thought that eventually everything would be back to normal. When the crash of
banks started in December of 1930, Hoover had hoped that this had been the beginning of the
Depression. Hoover knew that there needed to be a change, so he drafted and submitted a bill to
Congress, known as the Revenue Act of 1932. The purpose of the act was to balance the federal
budget and to maintain national credit. The act had raised the axes on wealth, estate tax, and corporate
taxes. The impact of this act had made a large middle class, it raised the top income rate from 25% to
63%, and it made the Depression worse. However, the Revenue Act of 1932 had ... Show more

bank run. FDR would speak to the public over the radio called fireside chats, where the first ones were
about the banking crisis. A new act was passed called the Emergency Banking Act, to try and help the
Great Depression. The purpose of the act was to allow the government to see which banks were
financially stable and allow those banks to open. The impact was the people started to have faith in the
banks again, and slowly started to use them again. FDR actions had helped the people and the nation s
banking crisis was coming to an end. (Great Depression

Essay on The Failings of Fundamentalism
Fundamentalism is an espresso shot of Christianity strong, bitter, and undiluted.
Fundamentalists believe the Bible should be interpreted as literal fact, not metaphorically.
To them, it is God s direct word to humanity and the ultimate earthly authority. And so
fundamentalists follow the Bible with unwavering certainty, as if it were God himself, and
press their interpretation of the book upon society. But the certainty at fundamentalism s core is
unwarranted, leading them to wrongfully ignore their oppositions own valid opinions and the
potential gains that come with them.
In the eyes of Christian fundamentalists, their actions are protecting God s will;
they are upholding the laws of the Supreme Being, thus keeping ... Show more content on

Their beliefs
demand an uncompromising attitude; for in their minds, their beliefs are not just their beliefs, but
unquestionable truths ordained by God.
While the fundamentalists reasoning is valid, their assumptions are dubious, resulting in
an absolutist mindset that unduly rejects non Biblical viewpoints. Indeed, if the Bible is inerrant,
and if the Bible is God s supreme will, then the fundamentalists zeal is justifiable and the world
ought to listen to them. However, fundamentalists downplay the almighty if. By their own
admission, their certainty in the Bible and in God is built on faith, which the Bible defines
as confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see (NIV Heb. 11.1).
Neither hope nor assurance are quantifiable pieces of evidence; they are feelings, subjective by
definition. Therefore, fundamentalists may feel they are right, but they cannot know whether
they are right by standards of objective reasoning. Even if fundamentalist doctrine is entirely
correct, it has no more privilege to absolute certainty than any other set of opinions. As such,
fundamentalists must understand that their legislative efforts to defend God s will from ungodly
assaults (Marsden) will be seen by others as acts of condemnation, homophobia, and misogyny
(Riascos). They must consider others opposite and equally

NCIS, or Naval Criminal Investigative Service, is a crime investigation show focusing on the
investigations done within this branch of the government. This episode was investigating a naval
officer that had a stroke and died on Air Force one after having dinner with the president. Therefore
this investigation involved the NCIS, FBI, and Secret Service fighting over control of the case. This
show, like many other shows involving the investigation of crime had some themes that are talked
about in Surette, 2015 (Bellisario, 2003). One is these themes is that the main character of this show,
Agent Gibs, is a good cop. He is a dedicated professional of the criminal just system that is using the
latest technology to repeatedly proved that crime does not pay (Surette, 2015). His whole NCIS team

is unrealistic. The single slug hypothesis does not dispose of additional shots, or different slugs hitting

Yangon region with the consideration of load forecasting. The planning period is considered as long
term planning with the period of 10 years. Yangon is now rapid urbanization according to its
development plans of people s living standard, newly build townships and industrial zones with about
7.3 million people. It is obvious that, the electricity demand is under pressure to be sufficient energy
for Yangon region. Therefore, consideration of power system planning becomes urgent issue. Wien
Automatic System Planning Package (WASP IV) is employed for generation planning with the result
of five new projects in Yangon. Moreover, Newton Raphson based load flow calculation is applied for

Enzyme Catalysis And Its Effect On The Reaction Rate Of An...
TITLE: ENZYME CATALYSIS
PURPOSE: Measure the effects of changes in catalase concentration, substrate concentration, and
salinity on the reaction rates of an enzyme.
RESEARCH COMPONENTS: What is being tested what do you know about enzymes?
PRELAB QUESTIONS:
Explain how the structure of an enzyme is related to its function/activity.
All enzymes are structured to react with unique substrates. and each enzyme has an active site where
the substrate bonds to the enzyme. The active site of an enzyme is shaped to fit the specific substrate it
reacts with.
Explain how free energy (G) relates to activation energy and enzymes.
Free energy (G) is the amount of energy required to do work. Enzymes help speed up the process by
lowering the activation energy needed to complete a reaction.
Explain how temperature, pH, enzyme concentration and substrate concentration would affect reaction
rates.
Temperature affects the rate of which the enzyme reacts, enzymes react typically faster in hotter
temperatures than colder. Ph levels that are extremely low or high can stop enzyme activity
completely or slow them down.If there is more enzyme concentration the reaction is quicker because
enzymes become constant. Also if substrate activity increases, so the reaction time speeds up until
maximum is reached.

dependent variable.

Cause And Effect Of Titanic
Introduction Iceberg right ahead! That one of the most unforgettable quotes from the movie, Titanic .
After seeing that movie for the first time I found the Titanic and her famous story, I found the Titanic
and very fascinating. Titanic is one of the greatest known maritime disasters in history to this day. She
was the grandest, most technologically advanced ship, and safest ship of her time. As you read this
report, you will be presented some effects Titanic had on things during her time period as well as in
the present that most people may not know about.
Body of Research During the time of her construction, Titanic was designed to be the largest,
grandest, safest, and most technologically advanced ship during her time. Her designers and engineers
set out to build a class of ocean liners that could compete against White Star Line s rival company,
Cunard. However, when Titanic, the second of her sister ships sunk on her maiden voyage, it shook
the world and it had a major impact on the world and its people. One of the main effects was the effect
on safety regulations. Titanic only carried enough lifeboats to sustain roughly half of the passengers
and crew on board. At the time, Titanic actually exceeded the amount of the lifeboats required by the
British Board of Trade regulations by 10 percent.
Although there was room on deck for twice as many lifeboats, the Titanic carried lifeboats for just
over half of the passengers and crew on board. The designer of the Titanic had allowed room on deck
for two rows of lifeboats, but one row was removed before the voyage began to make the deck more
aesthetically pleasing [Rogers and others, 1998]. With outdated British Board of Trade regulations, the
Titanic s twenty lifeboats actually exceeded requirements by 10 percent capacity [Refrigerator, 1998].
(Vicki Bassett, par. 21)
After Titanic s disaster, the new safety regulations required all ships to carry enough lifeboats to
sustain all of the passengers and crew aboard the ship. Moreover, the regulations also specify that the
lifeboats had to carry items such as oars, food, drinks, compasses, etc. Following the increase in
lifeboats, a mandatory use of wireless

The Great Depression Of The 1930 S
John Maynard Keynes was the most influential economist of the 1900 s and many of his ideas were
adopted by Franklin D. Roosevelt to combat the Great Depression of the 1930 s. With the passing of
the economic crisis in 2008, countless articles have been published supporting Keynes and his
economic thought. He originally investigated the origins of the Great Depression and remodeled the
field of economics with a basic conclusion: economies recover from downturns by spending money.
Keynes theorized that during financial downfalls, the public becomes frightened and decreases
spending, this leads to more layoffs, which in turn leads to an even greater decline in consumption,
creating a vicious cycle. Many of Keynes theories in The General Theory of Employment, Interest,
and Money (1936) are accurate, but are often overlooked in the legislative sector, due to political
agendas triumphing over logic. When the capital development of a country becomes a by product of
the activities of a casino, the job is likely to be ill done. The measure of success attained by Wall
Street . . . cannot be claimed as one of the outstanding triumphs of laissez faire capitalism. I will be
addressing Keynes concept of business cycles in The General Theory of Employment, Interest, and
Money mainly focusing on the 2008 financial crisis and analyze whether or not these arguments are
more or less accurate than his other conclusions. I strongly believe that many of his ideas are true as

4.1 Possible mechanisms
4.1.1 Omega 3 FA Omega 3 fatty acid depletion has been proposed mechanism for ERG abnormalities
in schizophrenic patients. Specifically, docosohexaenoic acid (DHA) is found in high concentrations
in the central nervous system, with the highest levels found in the outer segments of photoreceptors in
the retina. There have been reports of significantly lower levels of essential fatty acids in the red blood
cells of schizophrenic patients treated with neuroleptics and increased breakdown of membrane
phospholipids in drug naïve schizophrenic patients using magnetic resonance spectroscopy. Previous
studies have demonstrated reduced brain omega 3 fatty acid levels in schizophrenia, with
demonstrated abnormalities in ERG. More recent research has investigated the possible relationship
between omega 3 fatty acids and the dopamine hypothesis (which is discussed in more detail below).

Electoral System Pros And Cons
At first, when the founding fathers created the Electoral College, it was meant to be an effective
method of choosing the president, but now, this system only does harm to the nation. Back when most
citizens in the US were not educated, this group of representatives was to cast votes for the president
in a professional, knowledged way. Theoretically, the delegates were supposed to represent their state
and its people while expressing their own thoughts; however, in reality, it only contradicts the idea that
people are the source of the government s powers. To make matters worse, it does not work in our

The chapter deals with communication and language; however, not in the way that is typically
expected. The main character, Nadine, can only communicate with her parents through mail and the
occasional phone call, and she fails to write back. Her former beau, Eric, can only communicate to her
through the voicemails he leaves on her machine. And the patient at the hospital, Ms. Hinds, can only
communicate through writing on a notepad. The nurse at the hospital tries to communicate and have a
conversation with Nadine; however, she refuses to reciprocate the friendly communication. Nadine
has a lot of people trying to communicate with her but she chooses to deny them of ample
communication. Feasibly, her introverted traits are attributed to the ... Show more content on

Her unborn child with Eric seems to haunt her. She suspended communication with the people in her
life maybe because she is too ashamed by the abortion, so now she is punishing herself. Instead of
filling her life with people she substitutes human interactions with the voices from the TV. Nadine
now has to deal with the decision she made. Her use of language and communication were severely
altered by her decision. Instead of interacting with Eric, she ignores his calls and keeps his cassette
recordings next to a small shrine for the baby, which is possibly her form of mourning. Conceivably,
the chapter is named Water Child in reference to the baby. Nadine s shrine is described to have a
framed drawing that she had made of a cocoa brown dewy eyed baby that could as easily have been a
boy as a girl.... Next to the frame were a dozen now dried red roses that Eric brought her The tribute to
the baby might represent her lost of what she could have had along with symbolizing her grief. If she
didn t feel sadness over losing the baby or what could have been her life then she would not have built
the small shrine. Furthermore, She has once read about a shrine to unborn children in Japan, where
water was poured over alters of stone to honor them, so she had

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Wet Candy
Wet Caramel
Sugar + enough water to moisten the sugar.
Start Heating the Pan (115 120oC)
Use a wet pastry brush to eliminate sugar crystals
As the amber brown colour appears turn the heat to medium
Add any other ingredient s if required.
Start string the mixture
Once final required colour is attained stop cooking and Pour in moulds
CARAMEL AND CRYSTALLIZATION
When a wet caramel is made, first we make a sugar syrup which is sugar dissolved in water. The water
evaporates as heating process continue to make caramel, the syrup becomes super saturated, which
means that it holds more sugar molecules than the normal capacity of water. Due to this, the sugar
tries to re crystallize. If this happens, final product ends up with a pan full of clear rock candy. In order
to avoid this, we have to make sure pan is spotlessly clean. Sugar molecules have jagged edges and
can easily stick to each other or to the impurities from the pan. A tool is required to stir caramel, which
may contain impurities leading to crystallization, some people also say that stirring in itself (after the
sugar has dissolved) can cause the sugar syrup to crystallize, as stirring encourages the sugar
molecules to clump together. So instead, swirling the pan is another option

As the sugar and water boil, sugar syrup might fall on the wall of the pot, where it evaporates very fast
and thus forming back into sugar crystals. Even if one of these crystals falls back into the syrup, it can
cause a chain reaction, which turns the clear syrup opaque and grainy. This can be avoided by
removing it from the heat, adding a few tablespoons of water, returning it to the heat, and stirring until
the crystals dissolve before continuing on However, it s better to keep recrystallization from occurring
in the first place, so there are a few ways to prevent

Senseless Fears in the Film V Vendetta and Short Story...
When humans are afraid, we think irrationally. We can convince ourselves that we see demons in the
dark, or that inanimate objects are moving on their own. Although after applying logic we disregard
these thoughts, upon reiterating an idea multiple times our brains recognize them as true. For instance,
in the film V for Vendetta Chancellor Adam Sutler of a future Britain uses repetitive videos of
American riots as a scare tactic to discourage the people of Britain from rebelling. In addition, the
short story Doughnut Shops and Doormen reinstates the idea of fear through a women who
consistently avoids unnecessary human contact by convincing herself that the only person she cares
for is a rock star whom she ll never met. Both of these ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Consequently Amy has improperly developed social skills, thus does not like receiving attention.
When speaking of her coworkers Amy assumes, They forget about me. I am unnoticeable, as I intend.
There is no room in my life for reality, only Chris (289). Chris imposes Amy s negative perception of
reality because she fears losing him, although she doesn t actually have him. In a normal
friendship/relationship, we have concerns for our friend s addictions. They cause us to give
interventions, and seek help that our friend typically doesn t want. Amy s consistent attachment to an
unobtainable person has caused her to have a social phobia.
On a similar note, V for Vendetta illustrates a country ran by overuse of a fear injecting slogan. The
film begins with Louis Pathro, the voice of London, criticizing America for supposedly needing
assistance. He specifically states, Here was a country that had everything, absolutely everything. And
now, 20 years later, is what? The world s biggest leper colony. Why? Godlessness. This is to invoke a
fear of God in the people of Britain. He continues, Strength through unity. Unity through faith. I m a
God fearing Englishman and I m goddamn proud of it! The slogan Strength through unity. Unity
through faith is written on posters all throughout Britain. They indicate that the land of Britain should
be strong because of all of its God fearing

Frog And Toad Essay
The children s book, Frog and Toad Together, might not have challenging language or plot lines, but it
does have life lessons that can apply to real life situations for anyone from children to adults. In the
book, Frog and Toad show the importance of being organized and having a plan. The first chapter, A
List, shows us that life can become far easier when we have a plan for the future, but be careful not to
be too organized. In the second chapter, The Garden, we learn that persistence is key. The third
chapter, Cookies, is all about will power. The fourth chapter, Dragons and Giants, teaches it s readers
not only how to be brave, but that being afraid can be okay too. You can t have too much of either. The

In the chapter, Dragons and Giants, the friends read a book about brave heroes that fight dragons and
giants. They begin to look at themselves in the mirror. I wonder if we are brave, said Frog (Lobel 42).
Many people wish to be brave, but they don t really understand the meaning of the word. Frog and
Toad prove that being brave is not about having no fear, but rather having fear and conquering it.
Together, the pair climbed a tall mountain, faced a snake, and were chased by a hawk. They ran back
to Toad s house and hid under the bed and in the closet. Although they had fear, they faced them and
were brave in the face of adversity. People often mistake bravery for arrogance in the real world.
Someone who is truly brave still has fear but does not let the fear control them. People that claim they

Nuclear Fission Impact
The Impact of Nuclear Fission and Reactors on the Environment
Overview
Nuclear fission is a reaction in which heavy nuclei, such as Uranium and Plutonium, are broken into
smaller nuclei releasing heat, which is transformed into another form of energy such as, mechanical or
electrical. For a long time people have been using nuclear fission as an efficient and sustainable source
of energy. However, the use of this form of energy is associated with a unique set of consequences
including environmental, social and ethical. In this paper I will discuss nuclear energy and its impact
on the environment.

There are tow types of waste produced from nuclear fission: high level waste and low level waste.
High level waste consists of used uranium rods that can no longer be used for energy or produced into
other elements. The majority of low level waste consists of water and used equipment from the
nuclear reactors. Both types of waste are highly toxic and it was estimated that about 200,000 cubic
meters of low level waste and about 10,000 cubic meters of high level waste are produced world wide
each year. These wastes are usually encapsulated in multi layer containers that are buried in deep
geological areas (Figure 5). According to the European Union (EU) calculation, the disposal of low
level waste costs about $2,200/ cubic meters and high level waste costs over $100,000/ cubic meters
annually (Storage and Disposal, 2015).
In addition to the cost, these wastes may affect future generation by escaping into the environment due
to natural phenomena such as earthquakes and tsunamis. Therefore the authorities should set stringent
rules and regulations regarding nuclear programs to improve nuclear safety and enhance risk

Energy comes from natural resources such as sunlight, wind, rain, tides and geothermal heat. These
resources are renewable. Therefore, for all practical purposes, these resources can be considered to be
unlimited, unlike dwindling conventional fossil fuels. The renewable energy sources are known to be
much cleaner and produce energy without the harmful effects of pollution unlike their conventional
counterparts. Solar energy is converted into electrical energy and the electrical power generation in PV
systems is highly affected by the temperature and the insolation level which makes it impractical to
directly connect them to the load without any storage devices or utility grid interface. The PV systems
focused on the minimization of the installation costs and the maximization of the energy capture and
conversion efficiency. In order to maximize the conversion efficiency, the PV system should be
operated at its maximum power point (MPP). This power is supplied to the load using parallel power
processing topology to reduce the amount of power processed through the converter and, hence,
decrease the converter size and increase the efficiency by means of direct energy transfer (DET).The
concept of the PPP topology is shown in Figure.

Analysis Of Shakespeare s King Lear
The opportunity to view both productions of King Lear has appeared twice for me in the past two
years. The first time I viewed Trevor Nunn s 2009 production of King Lear my review would have
been based solely on my ability to understand the dialogue and my appreciation of the acting of Ian
McKellen. Two years later I have a better understanding of the actual play and while I still enjoy the
2009 production the 1982 production directed by Jonathan Miller presents the words of William
Shakespeare in a more accurate and period specific manor.
From the opening scenes of Trevor Nunn s 2009 production of King Lear, the audience is made aware
of a dark, ominous cloud that is about to envelope them. The use of low lights and spotlights allows
for a slow augmentation of the yet to come tragic aspects of the play. The minimal use of props and
background sets allows his audience to focus on the characters and their dialogue. Besides the set
design, background music for any movie can also make or break a production. The 1982 production
directed by Jonathan Miller declined to have any music from the opening scene and went directly into
dialogue whereas Nunn s version has an opening musical score that is reminiscent of a scene from the
Phantom of the Opera. The music is a lead in to an over dramatic scene where the people bow down to
King Lear and subsequently the dialogue of the play begins. The 1982 production withdraws from any
musical score and begins the opening scene with the

always been a favorite of individuals serving in the armed forces but outcast archetypes began to use
tattoos as an outlet for artistic expression and shock value. Biker gangs all along the West Coast used
tattoos to signify which gang they belonged to. Rock stars began to paint themselves with tattoos to
illustrate their outlaw ways. Rock n Roll was the devils music to those unfamiliar ears listening to it in

One of the greatest tragedies in history occurred on January 8, 1986. Shortly after it was launched, the
space shuttle Challenger exploded, killing seven astronauts, including Christa McAuliffe, a New

explosion was caused by a failure of the O rings of the solid rocket boosters. The O rings were unable
to seat properly, causing the leaking of hot combustion gases, which burnt through the external fuel
tank. The malfunction was not any one person s or organization s fault; it was caused by many factors

Impaired serotonin function has clearly demonstrated to be linked to clinical depression, because low
levels of serotonin may negatively affect mechanisms involved in maintaining recovery from
depression. However, there is evidence the serotonin pathways may not directly influence mood but
may be important mechanisms in depression due to an indirect consequence of shifts in autonomic
emotional responses, i.e., the impaired function may simply cause emotional responses to become
unstable contributing to depression. Therefore, Prozac, which acts as an inhibitor of the mechanism
that reduces serotonin, can help to reduce this emotional imbalance. However, serotonin alone is often
not sufficient in treating depression, as there are many mechanisms involved that are associated with
depression.

Pearl Harbor Air Raid Analysis
Because of the sudden attacks, the air raid on Pearl Harbor had three very unusual features regarding
the injuries for the medical personnel to deal with. First, there was a great number of casuaIties
received at the hospitals in a short period of time; second, many patients had been overboard at some
point and were covered with fuel oil; third, there was a very high percentage of burn cases (Hayden).
How did the hospitals handle all of these tragedies at once and remain successful?
Just 36 hours before the air raid, a lecture was given to all the medical personnel in the area about how
to handle the quantities of wounded in an attack setting. After, they had a scenario were stress was
placed on the personnel to quickly and adequately clean wounds by soap and water, followed by the
surgical removal of lacerated or contaminated tissue. Three criteria were to be fulfilled: (1) obtaining
normal color, (2) bleeding, and (3) muscle contraction. When this was completed, the next step was to

It is your reaction to adversity itself, that determines how your life story will develop . Dieter F.

Horse overcomes adversity throughout the novel while the Permian High school fails to. In both

The Spread Of A Sexually Transmitted Infections
In the world today almost everyone knows what a sexually transmitted infection is. People know that
these are infections caused by risky behavior and can stay with someone for the rest of their life.
Although people know what a sexually transmitted infection is they may not know the proper way to
prevent such infections or they may be unware of what their community offers to help prevent
unwanted pregnancy and infections. I ventured to my local grocery store, Standale Meijer, to see what
variety of options were available for men and women to prevent unwanted sexually transmitted
infections. I was greeted by a plethora of options. Most of the products were geared towards men,
such as condoms. There were about fifteen different types of condoms across seven different brands.
Trojan was a more prominent brand that was offered at this location. There were about ten different
Trojan condom types. Among them were ultra ribbed, fire and ice, bareskin, ultra thin and her pleasure
ecstasy. Birth control options offered at this location was not a huge selection. I found four different
types, all of which were for women. The options provided are Plan B, Today Sponge, Options
Conceptrol, and Vaginal Contraceptive Film. All are over the counter but you need to go to a
pharmacist to acquire Plan B. Fortunately, I was the only one on the isle so I did not feel like anyone
was watching me or feel awkward for staring at all these different condoms and contraceptive items.

Guardrail Vegetation Research Paper
Safety is a number one priority when it comes to roadways, whether it s being in a vehicle, walking
across the road or riding a bicycle. One factor of being safe on and near roadways is to know your
surroundings. Guardrail vegetation is a major concern in many states because the guardrails and signs
need to be visible at all times, but some vegetation makes the guardrails and signs sightless. Currently,
herbicides are the cheapest and most efficient method, only if applied twice every season. According
to Washington State s Department of Transportation, if managed properly, roadside vegetation can
become self sustaining over time and require less maintenance, which would help reduce both the cost
and herbicide use. However, herbicides are unhealthy for humans and the environment. When the
application process occurs, those applying the herbicides are required to wear suits to be protected
from the dangerous chemicals. While the herbicides treat the weeds, it also increases the risk of
erosion, resulting in an uneven line between bare ground and living vegetation. Herbicides can be a
temporary solution, but if used for years, will result in a limited number of species that will be able to

Heavy metal concentrations in the soil samples taken from each of the six sampling sites are shown in
Table 1. A clear gradient of element concentrations in the soils was observed among the study sites,
especially for Cd. Metal concentration varied significantly among sample sites; Cd (H = 16.596, p =
0.005) had the highest significant differences among the sites, whereas Zn (H = 15.409, p = 0.009) had
the lowest significant differences. Concentrations of Cd, Pb, Cu, and Zn in the soils from S1, S2, and

Craft Beer And The Beer Industry
From 2012 to 2014, the number of craft breweries in America has grown from 2,401 to 3,418,
representing a 42% increase. ( Number of Breweries and Brewpubs in the U.S. ) Additionally, while
US overall beer production fell 1.4% in 2013, craft beer production grew by 9.6% and now represents
7% of the total beer market. (Snider). The brewers association describes a craft brewer as small,
meaning annual production of less than 6 million barrels of beer, independent, meaning less than 25%
of the brewery is owned by non craft brewers in the alcoholic beverage industry, and traditional,
meaning the majority of beers derive flavor from traditional brewing ingredients and fermentation and
further states that these beers tend to be more expensive than mainstream brews. ( Craft Brewer )
The craft beer industry is rapidly increasing in size and the beers within it tend to be more expensive,
but little academic research exists on the perceived quality of craft versus mainstream beers. Craft
beer is widely seen as generally better than mainstream American beers such as Budweiser, Coors, and
Miller, but no academic research exists to determine how expectations of differences between craft
and mainstream beer based only on being labeled as craft can effect perceived quality and flavor.
People s expectations have widely been shown to influence both flavor experiences and neural
responding. Plassman and others (2008) demonstrated this using wine, by presenting wine to
participants that

Analysis of Themes in Rear Window Essay
Fear of Marriage and Voyeurism in Rear Window
In Alfred Hitchcock s 1954 classic thriller Rear Window, Jimmy Stewart stars as L.B. Jeffries, a world
traveling magazine photographer accustomed to living a fast pace active lifestyle. When Jefferies
injures himself taking a risky picture he is immobilized, confined to a wheelchair inside his apartment
for two months. Bored with his uneventful life he becomes completely obsessed with the lives of his
neighbors spending the majority of his waking hours watching them from his window. To obtain a
better view he begins using a telescopic lens from one of his cameras. By watching his neighbors
through the camera he assumes the role of both a spectator and a voyeur. This contributes to ... Show

Jefferies claims that Lisa is just not the right girl for [him] because she is too committed to high
society and materialistic for him. Jefferies barely acknowledges her and focuses most of his attention
on watching the neighbors apartments specifically the Thorwalds. She is unable to divert his attention
from the window even with the most forward flirtations. It is not until she puts herself on the other
side and into the movie that he becomes interested in her. Lisa finally becomes the subject of his gaze
and only then does Jeffries show any sexual attraction towards her. Near the end of the movie when
Lisa breaks into Thorwald s apartment, Jeffries does not see the same Lisa he saw when she stood by
him and sat in his lap. This dangerous act of bravery and courage proves to Jefferies that she is
capable of more than he previously thought. By exposing her willingness to take risks he sees that
there is more to her than high society and fashion. He now looks upon a guilty intruder exposed by a
dangerous man threatening her with punishment Mulvey 207 . He is aroused by this new spontaneous
side of her. From this scene we see that Lisa Freemont cannot become a part of the movie until she
becomes a character in the movie within the movie. This creates a new perception of Lisa

Congenital Disorders With Intellectual Disability
Chapter Five
5. Discussion
Congenital disorders with intellectual disability (ID) constitute a particularly significant medical
problem because of the high prevalence and life long care that patients will need. The extreme genetic
heterogeneity of ID is a major problem for pre and postnatal diagnosis. In some cases, however, early
detection of a mutation may be important to prevent the manifestation of the handicap (Avbelj et al.
2007). Congenital hypothyroidism (CH) is one of the most frequent causes of preventable ID, which
can be averted by administering thyroid hormone in early postnatal life. This is achieved by newborn
screening detection.
Congenital hypothyroidism fulfills most of the criteria for disease screening as set out by Wilson and
Jungner (Wilson and Jungner 1968), in fact CH is four to five times more common than
Phenylketonuria for which newborn screening was initially developed (Chiesa, Rivolta, Targovnik,
Gruneiro Papendieck 2010).
Detection of CH by neonatal screening has been a major achievement because early diagnosis and
treatment result in normal development in nearly all cases. An additional benefit of neonatal screening
has been the elucidation of the incidence of CH as well as the prevalence of its various causes.
The incidence rate of CH is approximately 1 of 3000/4000 new births worldwide (Calaciura, Miscio,
Coco, Leonardi, Cisternino, Regalbuto, Bozzali, Maiorana, Ranieri, Carta, Buscema, Trischitta, Sava,
Tassi 2002). However, this

Parents splitting up and getting divorced
Parents splitting up can be a stressful and upsetting time for a child. As an adult you can support them
and comfort them through this hard time, you could sit down with them and ask them how they feel
and maybe do some activities with them to take their mind off it for a little while.
Themselves or a close friend moving house
If a child s close friend moves away they may feel upset that their friend has left, and maybe anxious
about making new friends. As an adult you can encourage them to play with other children and get
them to take part in activities with other children so they can try and make new friends, and as for
them feeling upset you can comfort them and try get them to have fun so it c slip their mind.
If they move and have to go to a new school, make new friends ect. As a parent or teacher you can
comfort them and let them get used to where they are and not feel nervous or scared about being
somewhere new and unfamiliar and help them to make friends, by asking them to join in activities,
join an after school club or an out of school club where they will meet new people and get to know

Emily Grierson Loneliness
In A Rose for Emily by William Faulkner the protagonist, Emily Grierson, is a woman who couldn t
let go of important men in her life. That is until Emily and Homer The story unveils events of Emily s
troublesome life of loneliness. As the story continues, Emily s questionable actions lead the reader and
the towns people to ponder of the last strange phenomenon in which her lover, Homer Barron, who
stated as not a marrying man (Faulkner, page #) was never seen again after entering her home one
evening. The incident leads to the finale of whom the town s people may have presupposed throughout
the years of her behavior of never going out locking herself from society. The Author, Faulkner, inserts

The hair represented how they were getting old but also the miserable time they were going through
inside the house. It can be inferred that grand ending Emily likely killed Homer that one night he came
in her house. No one ever saw him again. What can be said is that she did not kill him of malice, but
she did so because she didn t want him to go. She wanted him all to herself in her lonely life as
company since he last left her and he had the tendency to be a forever bachelor she couldn t bear to
lose one more important man in her life. Homer wasn t interested in marriage in any way with a
possibility of being gay, in any case she couldn t risk loss again. The story tells us Homer s final
resting place, giving us a conclusion to all of Emily s strange activities. In the story the town saw her
hair go grey, when she died her hair had grown iron grey. Invisible dust dry and acrid in the nostrils,
we saw a long strand of iron gray hair (Faulkner). The strand of Emily s hair found on Homer is a time
teller making it known that she was with him even years after. Emily was lonely, and she needed
someone to love her and someone for her to love back. She wanted to have someone in her life,
permanently, which brought her to killing Homer so that she will never lose

Free Will In A Clockwork Orange
A Clockwork Orange
The freedom of choice and the rehabilitating form of corrections secures the domain of A Clockwork
Orange by Burgess. It produces the question about a mans free will and the ability to choose ones
destiny good or evil.
Burgess emphasize the thought that man can not be completely good or evil and must have both in
order to create a moral choice . The book is based on revamping a criminal with only good morals and
programing an automated response to evil. If he can only perform good or only perform evil, then he
is a clockwork orange meaning that he has the appearance of an organism lovely with color and juice
but is in fact only a clockwork toy to be wound up by God or the Devil or State (Burgess ix). Burgess

So when word spreaded around about a new experimental reforming process and a possibility of an
shorter sentence it quickly caught Alex attention .Meaning for Alex to be chosen he would have
continuously put up with being question and under pressure while conveying the state officials that he
s trying to amend himself . You ve been very helpful and, I consider, shown a genuine desire to
reform. You will, if you continue this manner, earn your remission with no trouble at all (Burgess 94).
But Alex intention on reforming was not in a religious manner but the quickest way possible . Alex
realizes an new way to get out and start to question the proceedings . . I don t know what it s called, I
said, All I know is that it gets you out quickly and makes sure you don t get in again (Burgess 95).
Although the minster start to have doubts about the medical treatment which involves in forcing a
persons to be morally better , he brings up an question for Alex What makes an real moral person . I
must confess I share those doubts. But the curiosity leads whether an experimental treatment can
really make a man good or not . Goodness comes from within. Goodness is something chosen. When a
man cannot choose he ceases to be a man (Burgess 95). This does not stop Alex from the thought of

Racial And Ethnic Disparities In Violence
Social Anatomy of Racial and Ethnic Disparities in Violence This article goes through the disparities
in races in comparison to violence. Statistically blacks are six times more likely to die by homicide
than white people are (Robert J. Sampson, 2004). That is a significant gap between the two races. The
rates of Latino s have slowly been converging with the whites in more recent years. There are other
studies that are based on police statistics that show disadvantaged communities have the highest
violent crime rates. The authors are trying to show that segregation by these social context in turn
differently exposes members of racial/ethnic minority groups to key violence inducing or violence
protecting conditions (Robert J. Sampson,

The Theory Of Biological Psychology
Introduction Many careers today benefit from the foundational knowledge of biological psychology,
some on the form of new understandings of technology and new understandings of brain and body
communication. The selected research problem is the effects on stress in the reintegration process and
how it can create obstacles when it comes to treating and trying assist reintegrating service members
and their families. Using the foundational knowledge compiled from years of research in the field of
psychology, neurobiology, and biological psychology. Using research done by other psychologists we
will look at a hypothesis created based on the issue and explain how the hypothesis can be verified
and the validity of the research.
Today there are many careers and areas of expertise that can greatly benefit from the foundational
knowledge of biological psychology. The first and most prominent field that comes to mind that can
and does benefit from the knowledge provided by biological psychology is the medical field. The
reason for this is due to the fact that in the medical field one must have a deep understanding of the
communication between the brain and the rest of the body. During surgery if a connection is severed
the repercussions could be egregious, the patient could potentially be paralyzed, and the medications
administered could have a negative effect on not only the body but also the biochemistry of the brain
as well, leading to further complications. Another reason for the

  • 2. Essay On Annotated Bibliographies When first brainstorming what topic I was going to pick for each annotated bibliography, it took me a while before I settled on a topic for each essay. While reflecting on my writing process, I came to the conclusion that more time would have definitely benefited my argument for each of these annotated bibliographies. If I had more time on each of these essays, I would have looked in more databases to try and find a wider variety of sources to argue each point. Since I can not search across all the databases at once, I picked out what looked to be the best database for each topic. For example, my public argument is on abortion, so I went straight to the sociology database. My other argument was about blockchain technology, so I went do my ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While doing this, I found out that some of the sources were not what I thought they were going to be. For example, one of the sources for my public argument seemed like it was against abortion, but once I got to the end, I found out that the author was actually for abortion. I had this problem while writing both of my essays, so I had to go back to the databases to find new sources. I think the most important change I made during the writing process was changing a few of my sources to ones that would better validate the arguments in each annotated bibliography. After searching within the database for a while, I was able to find other articles that gave me a wider range of information and statistics to choose from. If I would have not taken the time to go back and find sources that would better fit my argument, I would have needed to do it later in the writing process of each essay. Because of this, I went back for both of my annotated bibliographies and replaced some of the sources that I thought were good at first, but after reading more into them I found that they did not provide me with the evidence I ... Women are survivors with unique inner strength who pose to achieve it all without complaining. Likewise, the women are mounting the leadership ladder in the male dominated industries related to Finance, Federal Departments and Technology. In the United States, women synthesize a majority of the population earning higher college degrees as compared to men, yet holding only 19.2% top executive positions in the corporate world according to Forbes. Women entered the labor force during the 1960 s and tend to stay longer in the workforce before having a family. When it comes to uniformity and rationality, women are still suppressed. Our society stereotypes that women are meant to be working under men. Barriers to leadership opportunities are a worldwide phenomenon where females are disproportionately engrossed in a lower level and curtailed authoritative leadership positions. The leadership opportunities for women in corporate America do not correlate with their population rate. In the United States, they form the largest population, which subsist 50.8% and earning 60% of all master s degrees. Even earning higher degrees, they are only at 19.2% in corporate field reached C level. Consequently, they are still a minority in the executive world. Nevertheless, the numbers are growing in the positive direction. No one can make you feel inferior without your consent. Says the First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt. According to Catalyst survey, women possess enhanced skill sets than men; they are still a meager number in the corporate America. Why? The Glass ceiling and Glass cliff are the reasons why. According to Harvard Business School research, The Glass ceiling is a barrier, so subtle that it remains transparent, yet so strong that it prevents women from moving up the corporate hierarchy. Although a large portion of these laws still exist today, there is always need to revise and rewrite laws. In this article I will talk about the myths and beliefs of marijuana and compare them to reliable sources to form an opinion on whether or not marijuana is a relatively safe drug for medical and recreational use along with the physical and social effects to the user and their environment. Regard, this paper will not focus on any other associated topics such as the price of prisons, annual marijuana dispensary revenue, drug trafficking or law policy s. However many of the used articles compare and contrast the use of alcohol to cannabis. In the article Marijuana Use and Alcohol Use Are Dangerous for Society , Sven Olov Carlsson writes a letter to president Barack Obama informing him on the dangers of marijuana and alcohol use to societies. Carlsson is president of IOGT International, a politically independent organization that advocates for a world free of alcohol and other drugs; he is the international president of the World Federation Against Drugs. In his letter, Carlsson briefs marijuana as highly dangerous for the users mental health and well being along with their community. He believes the thought of making cannabis regulated would lead to a disaster because alcohol is poorly regulated. And the fact that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Mark allowed or agreed with Sean Parker that Eduardo had to be punished for freezing the account linked to the company but in the process betrayed the friendship between himself and Eduardo. Even though Mark may have not been on hundred percent on the decision of dropping Eduardo s share, he still decided to betray his loyalty of Eduardo by choosing Sean instead, who in the end also betrays Mark. In this case, it seems that most friendships in The Social Network were never meant to survive; all were meant to crash and burn. For Holden, he basically expects most people to betray him, he expects most people to be phoneys and expects all innocence to be lost in most children. Holden constantly feels betrayed with most of the other characters in the story, which could definitely be a main cause to his mental problems. Early in the novel, Mr Spencer betrays him. He was one of the few teachers at his school that Holden could relate with and trust. Spencer had told Holden of his expulsion, and Holden felt betrayed by his teacher. When Holden returns home to see Phoebe, his young sister, she is disappointed in him that he had failed to stay in Pency. He thinks that she should accept and be loyal to him unconditionally, so he feels betrayed. This shows that Holden really could not depend on anyone because ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Effects Of Parental Species On Aberrant Playback While parental species responded more to conspecific songs than heterospecific songs, we found no difference in the responses of parental species to aberrant playback. A previously mentioned study of two closely related species of African doves found that birds showed more response to conspecific vocalizations than to heterospecific playback, and found that response to hybrid vocalizations was intermediate (den Hartog et al. 2007). While our results aren t statistically significant for intermediate response, the trends do suggest that parental species respond with more vocalizations, and approach the speaker closer to conspecific vocalizations. He found that responses of allopatric birds were determined by syllabic cues and not by the temporal pattern of the song (Baker 1991). As these aberrant chickadee vocalizations may contain characteristics of both parental song types (Enstrom and Bollinger 2009), we would expect some type of response from, for example, a BCCH if an aberrant vocalization contained BCCH like elements (e.g. slower song frequency, lower pitch interval, lower number of notes per song, etc.). It is possible that response from parental species to these aberrant vocalizations also varies based on the structure of the song being presented. The majority of the aberrant song types recorded in Illinois contain introductory phrases that are similar to typical BCCH song. Perhaps most notably, the Greenville dialect starts with a two note phrase that is similar in frequency to a typical BCCH song (Enstrom and Bollinger 2009). However, the phrase duration is shorter and more similar to a typical CACH song. With aberrant vocalizations containing elements of both parental song types, a parental bird could be responding to a particular phrase or other element within the song which elicits a response similar to a true conspecific song. Further investigation would be necessary to compare responses from partial songs or from playbacks that have been manipulated to express different song characteristics. As expected, our results indicate that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. The Impact Of The Revenue Act Of 1932 On a day known as Black Tuesday, October 29, 1929, will always be a day the people of the United States will always remember. The stock markets were increasing for a decade, when it had plunged on Black Tuesday. Some people had lost everything, from the houses they owned or their jobs to banks crashing, this became a depressing time, known as the Great Depression. At this time Herbert Hoover was in control, and he thought that eventually everything would be back to normal. When the crash of banks started in December of 1930, Hoover had hoped that this had been the beginning of the Depression. Hoover knew that there needed to be a change, so he drafted and submitted a bill to Congress, known as the Revenue Act of 1932. The purpose of the act was to balance the federal budget and to maintain national credit. The act had raised the axes on wealth, estate tax, and corporate taxes. FDR would speak to the public over the radio called fireside chats, where the first ones were about the banking crisis. A new act was passed called the Emergency Banking Act, to try and help the Great Depression. The purpose of the act was to allow the government to see which banks were financially stable and allow those banks to open. The impact was the people started to have faith in the banks again, and slowly started to use them again. FDR actions had helped the people and the nation s banking crisis was coming to an end. Fundamentalists believe the Bible should be interpreted as literal fact, not metaphorically. To them, it is God s direct word to humanity and the ultimate earthly authority. And so fundamentalists follow the Bible with unwavering certainty, as if it were God himself, and press their interpretation of the book upon society. While the fundamentalists reasoning is valid, their assumptions are dubious, resulting in an absolutist mindset that unduly rejects non Biblical viewpoints. Indeed, if the Bible is inerrant, and if the Bible is God s supreme will, then the fundamentalists zeal is justifiable and the world ought to listen to them. However, fundamentalists downplay the almighty if. By their own admission, their certainty in the Bible and in God is built on faith, which the Bible defines as confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see (NIV Heb. 11.1). TITLE: ENZYME CATALYSIS PURPOSE: Measure the effects of changes in catalase concentration, substrate concentration, and salinity on the reaction rates of an enzyme. RESEARCH COMPONENTS: What is being tested what do you know about enzymes? PRELAB QUESTIONS: Explain how the structure of an enzyme is related to its function/activity. All enzymes are structured to react with unique substrates. and each enzyme has an active site where the substrate bonds to the enzyme. The active site of an enzyme is shaped to fit the specific substrate it reacts with. Explain how free energy (G) relates to activation energy and enzymes. Free energy (G) is the amount of energy required to do work. Enzymes help speed up the process by lowering the activation energy needed to complete a reaction. Explain how temperature, pH, enzyme concentration and substrate concentration would affect reaction rates. Temperature affects the rate of which the enzyme reacts, enzymes react typically faster in hotter temperatures than colder. Ph levels that are extremely low or high can stop enzyme activity completely or slow them down.If there is more enzyme concentration the reaction is quicker because enzymes become constant. Also if substrate activity increases, so the reaction time speeds up until maximum is reached. For each part of the lab (I, II, III) identify the control (if any), the independent variable, and the dependent variable. Part I Part II Part III Control type of enzyme, ... • 18. Cause And Effect Of Titanic Introduction Iceberg right ahead! That one of the most unforgettable quotes from the movie, Titanic . After seeing that movie for the first time I found the Titanic and her famous story, I found the Titanic and very fascinating. Titanic is one of the greatest known maritime disasters in history to this day. She was the grandest, most technologically advanced ship, and safest ship of her time. As you read this report, you will be presented some effects Titanic had on things during her time period as well as in the present that most people may not know about. Body of Research During the time of her construction, Titanic was designed to be the largest, grandest, safest, and most technologically advanced ship during her time. Her designers and engineers set out to build a class of ocean liners that could compete against White Star Line s rival company, Cunard. However, when Titanic, the second of her sister ships sunk on her maiden voyage, it shook the world and it had a major impact on the world and its people. One of the main effects was the effect on safety regulations. Titanic only carried enough lifeboats to sustain roughly half of the passengers and crew on board. At the time, Titanic actually exceeded the amount of the lifeboats required by the British Board of Trade regulations by 10 percent. Although there was room on deck for twice as many lifeboats, the Titanic carried lifeboats for just over half of the passengers and crew on board. The designer of the Titanic had allowed room on deck for two rows of lifeboats, but one row was removed before the voyage began to make the deck more aesthetically pleasing [Rogers and others, 1998]. With outdated British Board of Trade regulations, the Titanic s twenty lifeboats actually exceeded requirements by 10 percent capacity [Refrigerator, 1998]. • 19. The Great Depression Of The 1930 S John Maynard Keynes was the most influential economist of the 1900 s and many of his ideas were adopted by Franklin D. Roosevelt to combat the Great Depression of the 1930 s. With the passing of the economic crisis in 2008, countless articles have been published supporting Keynes and his economic thought. He originally investigated the origins of the Great Depression and remodeled the field of economics with a basic conclusion: economies recover from downturns by spending money. Keynes theorized that during financial downfalls, the public becomes frightened and decreases spending, this leads to more layoffs, which in turn leads to an even greater decline in consumption, creating a vicious cycle. Many of Keynes theories in The General Theory of Employment, Interest, and Money (1936) are accurate, but are often overlooked in the legislative sector, due to political agendas triumphing over logic. When the capital development of a country becomes a by product of the activities of a casino, the job is likely to be ill done. The measure of success attained by Wall Street . . . cannot be claimed as one of the outstanding triumphs of laissez faire capitalism. I will be addressing Keynes concept of business cycles in The General Theory of Employment, Interest, and Money mainly focusing on the 2008 financial crisis and analyze whether or not these arguments are more or less accurate than his other conclusions. I strongly believe that many of his ideas are true as he ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Start string the mixture Once final required colour is attained stop cooking and Pour in moulds CARAMEL AND CRYSTALLIZATION When a wet caramel is made, first we make a sugar syrup which is sugar dissolved in water. The water evaporates as heating process continue to make caramel, the syrup becomes super saturated, which means that it holds more sugar molecules than the normal capacity of water. Due to this, the sugar tries to re crystallize. If this happens, final product ends up with a pan full of clear rock candy. In order to avoid this, we have to make sure pan is spotlessly clean. Sugar molecules have jagged edges and can easily stick to each other or to the impurities from the pan. A tool is required to stir caramel, which may contain impurities leading to crystallization, some people also say that stirring in itself (after the sugar has dissolved) can cause the sugar syrup to crystallize, as stirring encourages the sugar molecules to clump together. High level waste consists of used uranium rods that can no longer be used for energy or produced into other elements. Both types of waste are highly toxic and it was estimated that about 200,000 cubic meters of low level waste and about 10,000 cubic meters of high level waste are produced world wide each year. INTRODUCTION In recent years, Energy comes from natural resources such as sunlight, wind, rain, tides and geothermal heat. These resources are renewable. Therefore, for all practical purposes, these resources can be considered to be unlimited, unlike dwindling conventional fossil fuels. The renewable energy sources are known to be much cleaner and produce energy without the harmful effects of pollution unlike their conventional counterparts. Solar energy is converted into electrical energy and the electrical power generation in PV systems is highly affected by the temperature and the insolation level which makes it impractical to directly connect them to the load without any storage devices or utility grid interface. The PV systems focused on the minimization of the installation costs and the maximization of the energy capture and conversion efficiency. In order to maximize the conversion efficiency, the PV system should be operated at its maximum power point (MPP). This power is supplied to the load using parallel power processing topology to reduce the amount of power processed through the converter and, hence, decrease the converter size and increase the efficiency by means of direct energy transfer (DET).The concept of the PPP topology is shown in Figure. ... Two years later I have a better understanding of the actual play and while I still enjoy the 2009 production the 1982 production directed by Jonathan Miller presents the words of William Shakespeare in a more accurate and period specific manor. From the opening scenes of Trevor Nunn s 2009 production of King Lear, the audience is made aware of a dark, ominous cloud that is about to envelope them. The use of low lights and spotlights allows for a slow augmentation of the yet to come tragic aspects of the play. The minimal use of props and background sets allows his audience to focus on the characters and their dialogue. Besides the set design, background music for any movie can also make or break a production. The 1982 production directed by Jonathan Miller declined to have any music from the opening scene and went directly into dialogue whereas Nunn s version has an opening musical score that is reminiscent of a scene from the Phantom of the Opera. However, herbicides are unhealthy for humans and the environment. When the application process occurs, those applying the herbicides are required to wear suits to be protected from the dangerous chemicals. Concentrations of Cd, Pb, Cu, and Zn in the soils from S1, S2, and S3 (distances of 1 2 km from the industrial area) were 4 35 times, 7 27 times, 2 6 times, and 3 6 times higher than those from S4, S5, and S6 (distances of 4 10 km from the industrial area), respectively (U test, p ≤ 0.05). Cadmium concentration ranged from a low of 1.9 mg/kg (S6) to a high of 67.5 mg/kg (S1), Pb concentration ranged from a low of 6.0 mg/kg (S6) to a high of 160.2 mg/kg (S1), Cu concentration ranged from a low of 51.3 mg/kg (S4) to a high of 292.0 mg/kg (S1), and Zn concentration ranged from a low of 98.2 mg/kg (S6) to a high of 605.0 mg/kg (S2). Pollution zones with high metal concentrations in soil and biota are often found near industrial areas (Dudka et al. 1996). It should be noted that the predominant wind direction in our study area is northerly, resulting in comparatively high levels of soil contamination in areas south of the industrial complex. Concentrations of Cd, Cu, and Zn in the highly polluted sites exceeded the threshold values (3 mg/kg for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Throughout the years I have demonstrated my commitment to public service by giving back to the community as a volunteer. • 42. Craft Beer And The Beer Industry From 2012 to 2014, the number of craft breweries in America has grown from 2,401 to 3,418, representing a 42% increase. ( Number of Breweries and Brewpubs in the U.S. ) Additionally, while US overall beer production fell 1.4% in 2013, craft beer production grew by 9.6% and now represents 7% of the total beer market. (Snider). The brewers association describes a craft brewer as small, meaning annual production of less than 6 million barrels of beer, independent, meaning less than 25% of the brewery is owned by non craft brewers in the alcoholic beverage industry, and traditional, meaning the majority of beers derive flavor from traditional brewing ingredients and fermentation and further states that these beers tend to be more expensive than mainstream brews. ( Craft Brewer ) The craft beer industry is rapidly increasing in size and the beers within it tend to be more expensive, but little academic research exists on the perceived quality of craft versus mainstream beers. Craft beer is widely seen as generally better than mainstream American beers such as Budweiser, Coors, and Miller, but no academic research exists to determine how expectations of differences between craft and mainstream beer based only on being labeled as craft can effect perceived quality and flavor. People s expectations have widely been shown to influence both flavor experiences and neural responding. • 44. Congenital Disorders With Intellectual Disability Chapter Five 5. Discussion Congenital disorders with intellectual disability (ID) constitute a particularly significant medical problem because of the high prevalence and life long care that patients will need. The extreme genetic heterogeneity of ID is a major problem for pre and postnatal diagnosis. In some cases, however, early detection of a mutation may be important to prevent the manifestation of the handicap (Avbelj et al. 2007). Congenital hypothyroidism (CH) is one of the most frequent causes of preventable ID, which can be averted by administering thyroid hormone in early postnatal life. This is achieved by newborn screening detection. Congenital hypothyroidism fulfills most of the criteria for disease screening as set out by Wilson and Jungner (Wilson and Jungner 1968), in fact CH is four to five times more common than Phenylketonuria for which newborn screening was initially developed (Chiesa, Rivolta, Targovnik, Gruneiro Papendieck 2010). Detection of CH by neonatal screening has been a major achievement because early diagnosis and treatment result in normal development in nearly all cases. An additional benefit of neonatal screening has been the elucidation of the incidence of CH as well as the prevalence of its various causes. The incidence rate of CH is approximately 1 of 3000/4000 new births worldwide (Calaciura, Miscio, Coco, Leonardi, Cisternino, Regalbuto, Bozzali, Maiorana, Ranieri, Carta, Buscema, Trischitta, Sava, Tassi 2002). Today there are many careers and areas of expertise that can greatly benefit from the foundational knowledge of biological psychology. The first and most prominent field that comes to mind that can and does benefit from the knowledge provided by biological psychology is the medical field. The reason for this is due to the fact that in the medical field one must have a deep understanding of the communication between the brain and the rest of the body. During surgery if a connection is severed the repercussions could be egregious, the patient could potentially be paralyzed, and the medications administered could have a negative effect on not only the body but also the biochemistry of the brain as well, leading to further complications.
