Alexander The Great s Large Accomplishments
Alexander the Great s large accomplishments in the third century BC changed the landscape of Afro
Eurasia in ancient times, and arguably through modern day. With the growth of his empire came the
spread of Hellenistic culture throughout the lands he conquered. From the Mediterranean to Asia to
the Middle East he helped expand trade routes and most of all the spread of ideas in religion, politics,
and culture. One of the larger aspects of this spread of culture from Alexander was the expansion of
the Greeks language across Afro Eurasia. As he conquered the lands the Greek language quickly
became used by the people he took over, especially in trade systems and political structures that arose.
The newly grown Empire basked in the benefit of a common language, now allowing traders and
merchants to understand each other even through the mixed backgrounds. ADD SOMETHING
ABOUT THE POLITICAL SYSTEM BENIFITTING FROM THE LAUGUAGE. The common
language also introduced people to Greek art, drama, and philosophy. Schools were built all around to
teach the citizens of Greek philosophical ideas such as Epicureanism and Stoicism. The culture and
political environment created by Alexander s Empire made the competition of Greek city states almost
obsolete. This competition being gone helped to create a mentality more focused on being part of a
vast Empire, rather than being the citizen of a certain city state which had till this time been a
predominate part of Greek culture and politics.

How Discipline Is Not Easy
Discipline has always been, to me, a thought of growing in yourself or in this case growing in your
relationship with Christ. Discipline is not easy, in fact, it is hard, but the results are what we discipline
ourselves for. Celebration of Discipline was a very eye opening and insightful book in many aspects.
Foster, the author, describes spiritual discipline as an inward and outward reality. Meaning, the inner
and outward attitude of the discipline. The bible uses spiritual discipline to describe fasting, prayer,
worship, and even celebration. When Jesus spoke of spiritual discipline, he hardly gives instruction of
how to discipline ourselves spiritually. This book book gives more of an outline/guidance to types of
disciplines that could help you in your spiritual journey. There are three types of disciplines discussed
in this book, along with many sub categories within each type. All these groups are used to help one
form a more well rounded spiritual life. The types are inward, outward, and corporate discipline.
Inward discipline is a type of discipline that focuses on your inner self/spiritual life. This involves
things like praying, meditation, fasting, and studying. Outward disciple is more of what you can do as
an individual to discipline yourself spiritually, such as simplicity, solitude, submission, and service.
These are still self centered but more focused on the outside actions rather than the inside actions.
Finally, we have the corporate discipline. This

Hinduism And The Beliefs Of Christianity And Hinduism
All around the world, there are billions of people who practice whatever religion they support. Today I
am here to talk about a couple of religions which are called Christianity and Hinduism. I will talk
about their origins, there beliefs, and how it has impacted the community around it. My first religion
will be one of the most popular religions that are used today due to its number of followers is
Christianity. This is a monotheistic religion, meaning that its people only believe in one god. It was
developed from Judaism, but has a few differences in its teachings. It was developed in Judea, which
Is now known as Israel in the middle east next to the Mediterranean sea.. It was founded by Jesus of
Nazareth and his disciples who helped him spread his teachings in the year 30 CE. One of their beliefs
is that there is only one god and only one. As you saw earlier that is called a monotheistic religion.
They were taught to call his father due to Jesus Christ teachings. Jesus is god s son. He was sent down
from above to save mankind from death and sin. In other words he was sent to fulfil god s job, not
teach it. Another one of their beliefs is what happens to them after they die. They believe that they
either go to heaven or hell. They believe that even though they are buried or cremated that their soul
can still live on and be brought up into a new life with god. They believe that this is possible because
three days after Jesus died he arose from the ground and they

My Life Changing Experience At The Doctor s Office
I walk through the doors with my mom. I hear crying, little kids throwing tantrums and moms telling
their kids everything would be fine. The nurses walking around with files and stethoscopes around
their necks. I was officially at the doctor s office. I had checked in and sitting in pain with all these
noises going on, thinking that it would be just a regular visit. But little did I know, from that day on it
would be a life changing experience to my identity.
My whole life s been a chase, it s a gift and a curse. Was on my way up to the top then slipped into
reverse. I was at the doctor s office for a messed up shoulder. Not thinking he would say anything
about getting older. They had me sit patiently in pain while they were scanning away my arm to see
what was the cause of all this. The doc showed me the x rays and said you ll be fine, it s just a frozen
shoulder blade. But do you see this here ? I immediately said yeah like, what is it? He points his finger
at the x ray and tells me what no 18 year old, 5 foot 5 boy that is playing hockey wants to hear, you re
done growing. My stiffened like I had seen a ghost. My heart had stopped like something was stuck in
my throat. I could feel the rapids of water hit the dam behind my eyes and when I stepped outside, that
dam broke. I couldn t hold the tears back. The rest of the night I would stay awake in my bed and keep
telling myself from that point on, I swear I would go on my grind mode.

Japan s Political System Of Japan
Traditionally, Japan has been maintaining a close relationship with East Asian countries

currently Japan s most important diplomacy and an ally of the United States (see the Treaty of Mutual

In 1925, universal male suffrage was introduced, increasing the electorate from 3.3 to 12.5 million.
Yet as the left pushed for further democratic reforms, right wing politicians pushed for legislation to
ban organisations that threatened the state by advocating wealth distribution or political change. This
resulted in 1925 s Peace Preservation Law , which massively curtailed political freedom.
As the left disintegrated, ultra nationalism began to loom large. Japanese nationalism was born at the
end of the nineteenth century. During the Meiji period, industrialisation, centralisation, mass education
and military conscription produced a shift in popular allegiances. Feudal loyalties were replaced by
loyalty to the state, personified by the Emperor.
Why did japan make an alliance with germany
The two fascist powers, both being militarist, were greatly nationalistic and had the ability to annex
other nations. Japan, being discriminated against during the Paris Peace Conference and the
Washington Conference, desired an opportunity to prove its power to the world, and the conquering
was how the nation would accomplish this task. Hitler s Germany centered, more or less, on gaining
control of foreign countries simply so that the nation could turn into a superpower and possess much
power and influence. In other words, both

The Worst Hard Time Summary
Timothy Egan writes the book The Worst Hard Time. In the book, it has a build up to how the Dust
Bowl occurred, and it explains the effects of the Dust Bowl through families that were in the plains.
Then to the end of the book, things are starting to turn around when Franklin D. Roosevelt visits the
Great Plains. Timothy Egan s thesis is that from the beginning, the whole United States starts to tip the
balance of the Great Plains, which led to the Dust Bowl, and the people hitting rock bottom; however,
two opposite ideas come together with faith that the Great Plains can be rebalance. Egan writes in an
inspiring tone that gives a feeling of understanding how the people felt in the worst time, and he stays
on topic of his main point but is slightly bias. In the beginning of the book, Timothy Egan effectively
show that the removal of Indians and the XIT ranch was the start line to the Dust Bowl. Egan writes
about how the United States drives both the Indians and the cowboys out of the Midwest for the
farmers, which Egan signals that this is the spark that started the worst hard time. Egan explains this
by writing, This grass was never meant to be plowed, James told his fellow cowboys. By writing this,
Egan shows that the cowboys know that the farmers should not have used the land for crops, because
they know that the rain will not always be there. Throughout the first chapters, Egan continues to give
scenarios that tip the balances like the effect of the clearing of the

Living Behind The Veil In Saudi Arabia
A veil is a piece of sheer material worn by women to conceal their faces, that very piece of material
symbolizes sacredness. In traditional Christian religion the veil is worn by the bride in white on her
wedding day as she approaches her groom at the alter. He uncovers her face at the end of the
ceremony and they kiss. Once that tradition is done the bride and the groom live their lives together
without her ever having to wear the veil again. However, In the Muslim religion predominantly in
Saudi Arabia the veil is also considered sacred, but used for different purposes. For the women of
Saudi Arabia wearing the veil is part of their everyday life. In fact it is forbidden for them not to wear
it, their veil is worn routinely. The women of Saudi should know that living behind the veil is a form
of abuse toward them. A life in front of the veil is more enjoyable and liberating. Just because they
walk in the street without their veil does not make them promiscuous nor should they be punished for
it. Living behind the veil may be all the women of Saudi Arabia know, some may be comfortable with
it, others afraid of the consequences they will face for not wearing it. Either way they do not have
much of a choice since they are constantly chaperoned around by a male guardian know as a mahram ,

Outline Of The Passing Of Grandson By Charles Chesnutt
I. Introduction: What are you capable of doing for your freedom? II. Thesis Statement: Author Charles
Chesnutt in the short story, The Passing of Grandison creates the main character to reveal the conflict
of man versus society to portray the lives of slaves in the 1950 s and what they had to endure to fit in a
white world. III. Body Paragraphs: 1. The first example that explores the conflict of man versus
society is shown when Colonel Owens warns Grandison about the abolitionists. It is a clear
demonstration that he is against the abolitionist and wants to make sure Grandison is too. He describes
them as desperate lunatics who starve runaway slaves until they die. Grandison seemed to agree with
Coronel Owens about how he felt towards the abolitionists. a. ... Show more content on

Author Viktor Osinubi states in his article, Privileging the African Metaphysics of Presence in
American Slave Culture , American slavery, like many perverse institutions, developed a peculiar
culture of fear and oppression, and thousands of slaves had to learn how to navigate this culture for
their survival . 2. Another example that reveals what slaves had to endure to fit in a white world was
when Grandison and Dick Owens traveled to the north. Dick sets up Grandison to have encounters
with abolitionist, but things do not go as planned. Dick writes letters to several abolitionists letting
them know he had a slave with him so they could come to look for Grandison. It seemed like no
matter what tactic Dick was using to make Grandison escape, it was not working. After many failed
attempts to make Grandison escape, Dick came to the realization that Grandison was a loyal slave
deserving of a medal for his loyalty. a. The author Leora H. McCloskey states in her article, The

Atherosclerosis Case
Based on the common law duty of confidentiality (DOH, 2012) and recognizing peoples right to

Cardiac arrest is a grave medical emergency where the heart stops pumping blood throughout the body
and can lead to death in minutes. There are currently 30,000 out of hospital cardiac arrest in UK
(Perkins, 2016). In coronary artery disease there is a obstruction in the arteries that supply blood and
oxygen to the heart. The initial step in coronary artery disease (CAD) is the formation of
atherosclerosis. The build up of plaque is called atherosclerosis. CAD is a progressive disease that
most commonly presents as angina. The beginning of CAD is thought ... Show more content on

The development of an atherosclerotic plaque is relatively a very a complicated process where Plaque
rupture accounts for about 76% of fatality lead by thrombi. The evolution of atherosclerosis begins
with foam cell accumulation where the macrophages accumulate within arterial wall intima,
progresses to form fatty streak where further accumulation of intra and extracellular lipids, this is a
potentially reversible stage (Greenland p, 2013) further atheroma/fibroatheroma forms where
cholesterol and phospholipids accumulate intramurally. This is a vulnerable state as it is predisposed
to spontaneous rupture by inflammation and thrombus deposition may occur. Hemodynamic changes
during this stage may cause ischemia or silent infarction, if large plaque rupture total occlusion may
cause myocardial infarction or sudden cardiac death. Finally a complex lesion can develop where fibro
muscular tissue can be seen with repair efforts followed by repeated plaque formation, this may slowly
increase in size and produce significant arterial narrowing.
Coronary arteries undergo a compensatory mechanism in relation to the area of the elastic lamina,
which is involved with plaque this is known as adaptive or positive remodelling where it preserves the
artery until 40% of the lesion is occupied, thus stenosis may not be clinically evident and can be
asymptomatic. Positive

Examples Of Prejudice In A Christmas Memory By Truman Capote
Albert Einstein once said: It is harder to crack a prejudice than an atom. In today s world, prejudice is
taking place more than one might think. Prejudice is very negative and often causes unhappiness.
Truman Capote explains this by using negative imagery of stereotypes throughout A Christmas
Memory, to show how society s stereotypes restrict happiness and lead to negativity. Truman Capote
uses negative imagery to explain how prejudice could potentially negatively influence people s
happiness. In A Christmas Memory, Buddy, the main character, and his aunt were baking fruitcakes.
They need to get whiskey to finish their fruitcake. They ask Mr. Haha, a supposed evil man for it.
Society labeled him with the name Haha because he s so gloomy, a man who never laughs ... [his]
large log cabin festooned inside out with chains of garish gay light bulbs ... where moss drifts through
[branches] like gray mist (Capote 3). His image was so frightening to Buddy and his aunt that they
were afraid to even ask for whiskey. However, when they meet him, he [was] smiling! Laughing too

having a great time while having a bit of innocent alcohol. However, once two of their relatives come,
they ruin it all. They are described as Very angry. Potent eyes that scold, tongues that scald ... [they

Fig. 1 Distribution of Egretta thula throughout North and South America based on seasons.
Habitat
Snowy egrets inhabit marshes, ponds, swamps, and mudflats (Bull Farrand). Since snowy egrets are
wading birds, like other herons and egrets, they prefer habitats that are close to water. Wading birds
breed and build their nests in close proximity to water, allowing them to have access to food while
raising their young. In North America, the snowy egret s favorite habitats include salt marshes,
shallow bays, and mangroves. Snowy egrets prefer similar habitats throughout South and Central
America and the Caribbean (Weslosky, 2002).
Conservation Biology
Life cycle and reproduction
Breeding colonies, sometimes of multiple different species, form on islands surrounded by water or
guarded by a vegetative buffer. Such features are presumed to be desirable due to the protection they
provide from predators on the ground (Frederick, 2002). Nests are often built using sticks, reeds, and
other vegetation and constructed in trees, shrubs, or other aquatic vegetation (Elphick, 2014). A clutch
consists of 3 5 eggs, a pale blue green in color, laid in a nest located in a bush or reedbed, specific to
the species of egret (Bull Farrand, 1994). Breeding season begins in March or early April and males
will perform both flight and vocal displays to attract females. Snowy egrets are social nesters

Compare And Contrast The Mexian Revolution And French...
A revolution is a rebellion of the government with force in favor of a new and better form of
government. During the French Revolution, King Louis XVI and his wife, Queen Antoinette, were
heavily indebted from spending their money recklessly, which led to high taxes for peasants. In result,
the peasants overthrew King Louis XVI from his position. During the Mexican Revolution, Porfirio
Diaz became a dictator that limited one s freedom and the imbalance of social classes. Likewise, the
leaders removed Porfirio from his position, but it created a bigger problem. People started
backstabbing each other to take over the leadership of Mexico. The French Revolution was similar to
the Mexican Revolution because both nations went through harsh conditions to establish a better
government, both of their governments abused their power, and both achieved human rights in many
ways.
The Mexican Revolution was similar from the French Revolution because they both went through a
phase of peasants in poverty and being treated harshly, wanting a change. According to an excerpt by
Francisco Madero in November 20, 1910, it states, The oppressive government has gotten bad. We
cannot accept it anymore... I need to put myself in front of my fellow citizens. People have placed
their confidence in me. (Doc. 1) This evidence shows that both revolutions started because of the
unfair laws in the nation placed by the government. They wanted to revolt because they wished for a
nation with freedom and rights. This evidence proved that both revolutions had the willpower to fight
back for what they want. The French Revolution was at war in their nation, where many men and
women fought for their own individual rights and not depending on other to fight for them.
Additionally, in a excerpt by John Reed in June 1914, it states, They are fighting because they want
something that they can get no other way. The peasants are sick of war. They do not enjoy starvation,
thirst, cold, nakedness, and wounds. This has been happening for 3 years. (Doc. 2) This quote
demonstrates that peasants fought for freedom, and they were sick of being poor. They wanted a
positive change in their life that would benefit them by revolting the government. This quotes

Potassium ( K + ) Channels
Potassium (K+) channels are ubiquitous throughout biological systems as they are found in many
different cell types including prokaryotes, eukaryotes and archaea. (However, for the scope of this
exam, the examples will be limited to K+ channels found in neurons.) They are tetrameric integral
membrane proteins that assemble to form transmembrane aqueous pores. Their basic function is to
allow the passive flow of potassium ions down an electrochemical gradient rapidly and with high
specificity. The high specificity of these channels is crucial in excitable cells such as neurons as they
are able to exclude sodium ions (Na+) despite the sub angstrom difference between ionic radii, which
allows for the establishment of ion gradients as well as a delayed flow between sodium and potassium
ions to shape action potentials. This specificity also allows the channels to establish and maintain the
resting potential in many cells.
All potassium channels have a distinctive, universal feature of two transmembrane (TM) helices and a
short loop ( P loop ) between them that lines the top of the pore and is responsible for potassium
selectivity. This canonical feature is referred to as 2TM/P. In terms of membrane topology, there are
two broad classes of K+ channels: 1) the two transmembrane helix (2TM/P) subunit, typical of the
inward rectifying (KIR) channels and, 2) the 6 transmembrane helix (6TM/P) subunit, typical of
voltage gated (KV ) subtypes. It must be noted that the 6TM/P

Was Rockefeller A Robber Baron Argumentative Essay

Argumentative Paper
John D. Rockefeller, at his peak was said to have had a total net worth of around $341 billion in USD
today. Rockefeller was at the head of Americas first monopoly. His oil company, Standard Oil,
controlled 90% of the entire US oil industry. Rockefeller believed that he was doing the right thing,
but others did not perceive him the same way. John D. Rockefeller was indeed a robber baron.
Rockefeller was a robber baron because the ways in which he acquired his vast wealth was done so
unethically. First, he bought out all of the other competing oil companies so Standard Oil could have
control over the entire market. This was not good because now Standard Oil was able to set the new
standards for the market, including quality of the product and price. Critics accused Rockefeller of
engaging in unethical practices, such as predatory pricing and colluding with railroads to eliminate his
competitors, in order to gain a monopoly in the industry(History.com, 2010). Also, ... Show more

Old Spice Ad
Smell like a Man, Man
For years Old Spice has been the immediate brand that comes to mind when anyone mentions a manly
fragrance. The first advertisement is a poster created by Old Spice that shows a man in the bathtub
with bubbles on him depicting a lumberjack. The second image shows a nerdy guy that is revealed to
be a rock star deep down. Both of these advertisements were produced by Old Spice to promote one of
their products called After Hours body wash. Old Spice has found the ability to make every man wish
that he were something better by using appeals to men s want for women and manliness. Deep down,
underneath that soft outer shell, is a strong man that is released with just the use of an Old Spice
product.

The first poster displays the main character with far less details than the second poster. While the first
mainly focuses on the main character having a vague resemblance to a lumberjack, the second shows a
highly detailed outer and inner character. Giving the audience a more vague view of the character
allows for a more personal understanding of what the advertisement is portraying; whereas, displaying
the character with more details and features shows a more specified character that could help the
audience further understand the connection between the nerdy guy and his tough inner self. The more
intricate details of the second poster show that the nerdy guy on the outside, is simply a man with little
talent compared to his inner rock star self. His inner self is shown to be playing a two guitars and a
saxophone all at the same time portraying his more advanced skills. He has the ability to do what the
nerdy guy wishes he could do but can t. The bikini top jumps at the fact that the rock star does well
with women, something that the nerdy guy could never accomplish himself without the help of the
Old Spice body wash. These differences reiterate the main character s need for the body wash because
it allows them to be what they always wanted to be. Another aspect of both advertisements is that
there are visuals that act on text contained in them.

History Of Geology Of Ethiopia
1.5 Review of Literatures
According to (EIGS, 2010); the geology of Ethiopia is characterized by different rock types ranging in
age from Precambrian to recent. These rocks are classified into three major geological formations:
Precambrian rocks, Paleozoic Mesozoic sedimentary rocks and Cenozoic volcanic rocks and
associated sediments. (Ebinger et al., 1993); Volcanic activity in the southern MER started earlier than
in the other MER sectors, since the oldest rocks were dated at about 45 Ma (Amaro Gamo basalts).
Such an initial, mainly basaltic activity ended around 30 Ma (Zanettin et al., 1978).
According to Levitte et al., 1974) and Zanettin et al., 1978), a second phase of mainly basaltic
volcanism started in the early Miocene ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The most important geologic units are outlined below from the oldest to the youngest. The lowermost
unit corresponds to the Tertiary basaltic sequences that cover large areas of Ethiopia and are
comprehensively known as Plateau Flood basalts or Trap Series. These basalts represent the first
volcanic activity related to the Tertiary rifting in Ethiopia, although this volcanic phase predates the
main rifting events (Abebe et al., 2005; Bonini et al., 2005).
According (Zanettin et al., 1978), the alkaline basaltic lava flows are about 30 36 Ma in age and crop
out at the northern termination of the Chencha escarpment to mildly in the Soddo Arba Minch areas.
Damot Volcano is a large and complex silicic volcanic center; which rises over 1000 m from the
surrounding rift escarpment, locally overlies the Nazret pyroclastic rocks. The trachytic lava flows
from Damota are of Late Pliocene age (~2.9 Ma [Woldegabriel et al., 1990]).
Hobitcha is Quaternary volcanic centers which is main sources of pyroclastic material to this ancestral
lacustrine system, together with basaltic flows evident as hyloclastite layers in some sections of this
unit (Chernet, 2011). The earliest phase of rhyolitic volcanism in the Quaternary was associated with
the Hobitcha rhyolitic center, a U shaped caldera with a diameter of ~10 km that exposes large
volumes of lava and pyroclastic products on its flanks and caldera rim.

A Research On Major League Baseball
According to Thomas Wilson, sociology of sport findings present [that]... the higher one s social class,

athlete by their hometown and the pattern of success it will present to them in their later life. For my

And what we ve found is that kids in cities are now much less likely to participate in sports than kids
in suburbs ( Next Level, 2011).
Joshua Kjerluf Dubrow and Jimi Adams conducted a study on NBA players in which they coded the
player s childhood income status from old news clippings. They found that an African American child
from low income family had a 37% lower chance of making an NBA roster than an African American
child from a middle or upper income family. A white child from a low income family is 75 percent
less likely to become an NBA player than middle class or upper income whites (2010). Dubrow and
Adams state that the intersection of race, class, and family structure background presents unequal
pathways into the league (2010). NBA players tend to come from hometowns with median populations
of around 110,000 people and are 59% white. Around 34% of black athletes in the NBA come from a
household earning no more than 150% of the poverty line. Interestingly enough, 0% of white NBA
players come from single parent homes (Dubrow and Adams 2010).

Water Consumption Throughout The World
1.0 Introductory: Water Consumption in Canada Water consumption, in many regions, is becoming
problematic as the objective is to consume and to prevent it from becoming an obsolete factor. Canada
has access to one fifth of the world s freshwater and is known for its rich water, but noticeably today
many regions across the country are suffering water insufficiency on a periodical basis and some even
more frequently than others. Canada is one of the largest per capita users of fresh water in the world.
One of the few conclusions arrived at to resolve this issue of water insufficiency is the practice of
rainwater harvesting which is the collection and storing of rain. This practice is still under

The rainwater harvesting system consists of four major components including a catchment area to
collect rainfall and a conveyance system to circulate the water from the roof to the storage area. The
third component is the storage system; connected to the storm water drains which are attached to the
roofs, employed to store the collected water and lastly a distribution system through which water is

One hundred years after the signing of the Declaration of Independence, the Centennial International

considered financially successful for its investors, the Centennial Exhibition that took place in
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in the year 1876 was a ground breaking event that showcased the
incredible advancement in culture and industry experienced by the United States immediately after the
Civil War. The significance of the Centennial to the American economy, relations with European
powers and recovery from the Civil War cannot be overlooked. During the late 1840s and 1850s
America had been completely unable to compete with foreign nation s industrial prowess. By 1876
however, foreign investors were excited by the prospects of wealth presented by this new burgeoning
American industrial capacity. Held from May 10 to November 10, 1876 the Exhibition took place in
Fairmount Park along the Schuylkill River about two miles from the center of Philadelphia and was

Fanon Violence
On Violence
Fanon is most noted for claiming that At the individual level, violence is a cleansing force. It rids the
colonized of their inferiority complex, of their passive and despairing attitude. It emboldens them and
restores their self confidence (51). At first glance this claim rings true to the interpretations of his
work given by authors such as Robert Fulford and Henry Louis Gates, Jr who resent Fanon s work,
but there is more to this claim. To further enumerate on the quote, violence is a cleansing force for
Fanon after having affirmed that decolonization is always a violent phenomenon. He describes this
decolonization as a movement of bringing about change which can only be done by the colonized
taking charge of their land. The settlers are never willing to view the oppressed as subjects, meaning
freedom has to be taken by force. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Since the colonial world is divided into two parts: Native and Colonizer s sector, the colonizers are
able to govern with brutal force in order to keep the natives in their place of poverty and obedience. It
is through the unbalanced relationship of the two that Fanon sees it fit for the colonized to reciprocate
the violence they have been exposed to their whole colonial lives.
It is here that the distinction between colonial violence and the emancipatory violence of the colonized
is needed. Colonial violence to Fanon has 3 dimensions, it is inaugural, empirical and absurd
(Mbembe 12). This violence is inaugural in the sense that it is used by the settlers to build the colonial
state and maintain their power in what Fanon called a politics of hate (89). The state is everything but
civil as it separates the settlers from the oppressed which leads into the second dimension where the
empirical aspects of this violence are

Analysis Of The Devil In The White City
In the 1890s, the upcoming Columbian Exposition was all that the people of the United States talked
about. Nicknamed World s Fair, it was supposed to lead America through the 20th century and into the
future. The fair was designed in the hopes of outshining the Paris Exposition and its main attraction
the Eiffel Tower, yet no man was able to tell of the trials and tribulation at the fair and its architects
would face in the years leading up to the exposition and in the aftermath of it. The Devil In The White
City, written by Erik Larson, is a nonfiction text that goes in depth into the murder, magic, and
madness that took place during the time of the World s Columbian Exposition in Chicago. Larson
mainly focused on two extremely important people who he believed transformed the World s Fair.
Daniel Hudson Burnham, the leading architect, and director of the fair and the Urban Serial Killer, Dr.
H. H. Holmes, previously known as Herman Webster Mudgett. Throughout the duration of the text,
Larson constantly switches back and forth from the separate, yet intertwined stories of Burnham and
Holmes. Larson explores Burnham s role in the construction of the fair and Holmes path to corruption.
Through the telling of the events that lead up to the fair and after it, Larson makes the argument that
appearances can be deceiving and that the shell of beauty can hide danger and evil. While Holmes was
the obvious devil/serial murderer and Burnham can be credited with building the White

Clash Of Civilizations Analysis
In 1992, at the end of the Cold War, political scientist Francis Fukuyama argued that with Western
Liberal Democracy s victory in the battle of ideologies, there was no more history to be made. Indeed,
in such a monumental moment in human history, it may have been easy for scholars to believe that the
human experience is done developing. Samuel Huntington responded to Fukuyama in his 1993 essay
Clash of Civilizations, arguing that history is far from over. Rather, world politics is simply entering a
new phase, in which global conflict is centered on civilizational lines, rather than ideological or
political lines. When we look back on his essay, we see that his hypothesis has manifested in several
key events in world politics regarding our case studies and current events around the world.
Huntington credited the Cold War with bringing global stability. Because the world was split into
Capitalist and Communist, countries of different cultures and background united under one cause:
defeat the other side. In addition, the concept of Mutually assured destruction protected us from the
prospect of destructive, nuclear war between countries on the Capitalist side and countries on the
Communist side. However, after the Cold War ended, people needed to find new lines to identify
themselves with: cultural lines. In Clash of Civilizations, Huntington outlines 3 ways in which
civilizations will clash: core state conflicts, fault line conflicts, and The West Versus the Rest.

Leader In Animal Farm By George Orwell
What is a Leader?
Leader: Noun
1. The person who leads or commands a group, organization, or country.
English Oxford Living Dictionaries
In the book Animal Farm by George Orwell, Old Major, an old pig, is depicted as a good leader. A
good leader puts others before themselves, is humble, willing to serve, and inspires people to do their
best. Old Major is the character that exemplifies these traits. In the book, Old Major is gathering up
support for a rebellion against Mr. Jones, the head farmer, in the hopes of an easier and more
prosperous future. And now, comrades, I will tell you about my dream of last night. I cannot describe
that dream to you. It was a dream of the earth as it will be when Man has vanished. But it reminded

Since the beginning of civilization, there have always been leaders. There have been great leaders and

Not all schools have climbing walls in their schools so activities like the trust walk can be done which
does not require any equipment. In the trust walk students are paired up and one student wears a
blindfold and the other student leads and helps the blind folded student walk around while avoiding
obstacles. This type of activity helps develop trust amongst the students as well as communication
skills. Adventure Education uses different activities like that to promote physical activity, and students
of all different skill levels can participate. Adventure sports and activities are better than team sports
because any student can excel at them, rather than in team sports where some students are not athletic

and do not require any athleticism, and promotes interpersonal skills. As the students begin to grow

Population Growth Has Fueled The Demand For More Resources
Introduction
Case Studies
Population growth has fueled the demand for more resources. The demand for coastal resources has
grown significantly due to over 40% of the world s population living within 100 km of the coast.
Living in Hawaii, one of the natural resources that is most valuable to society and the local economy
is access to these coastal and beach resources. At a state level, providing and improving access to
coastal resources has been a priority objective as defined by the Coastal Zone Management Act. In
attempts to valuate the benefits of access to these coastal resources, the majority of previous research
has focused on the value of beach recreation in coastal regions. These studies have found that visitors
decisions on what beach to go to are highly influenced by preferences, perceptions and the site s
characteristics (Halkos Matsiori 2012). According to this study by Halkos and Matsiori in Greece
people are more likely to be willing to pay for improvements in beach water quality, site facilities and
additional beach access points. Recent studies have taken this data one step further to valuate the
economic benefits of each of these identified improvements.
In this case, in order to evaluate the effectiveness of the SMA permitting process, values must be
assigned to the benefits of shoreline access. The ways in which to determine the economic value of
public beach access must be discussed to assist with our valuation methodology. The most extensive

should also be suspicious. Such messages almost never come from a legitimate business that is merely
mistaken about these sorts of things. They are almost always fake.
If the sender s purported address does not match the purported sender s business name, be very
suspicious. For instance, if a message appears to be a collection notice from American Express, but the
sender s e mail address appears as poubelle2167@reparationdevelosdesttropez.fr, you should
immediately be suspicious. Do look carefully, though, as a sender will sometimes use a clever, but not

The Death of the Ball Turret Gunner by Randal Jarrell
In the first line of the The Death of the Ball Turret Gunner Jarrell states, When I died they washed me
out of the turret with a hose (5). Jarrell does not elaborate; he makes it very clear that war is gruesome.
However, the literary techniques used in the other four lines of Death of the Ball Turret Gunner give
this theme even deeper meaning and make his point so effective. Jarrell criticizes the government for
its insensitivity toward the fate if its solders. Jarrell does mention how scared the gunner is, or call out
the government for the brutalities and terrors the gunner has witnessed and experienced; he simply
states the events that occurred, allowing the reader to make these conclusions for himself. Jarrell uses
imagery to convey the gruesome horrors of combat, perplexity to simultaneously establish the gunner
s emotional condition, and finally tone to portray the government s perspective of soldiers that die.
The imagery Jarrell uses not only conveys the terrifying situation the ball turret gunner is in, it also
exhibits the difference between the gunner s previous experiences and his current situation. The first
line indicates the ball turret gunner safe. He mentions his mother s sleep (1), meaning the sleep during
which he is in her womb. This gives the reader the impression that he came from a protected, warm,
and comfortable environment. This environment contradicts with his present situation being, hunched
in its belly till my wet fur froze (2). The

Interaction And Labeling Theory
Interaction and Labeling Theory
The interaction and labeling theories are focused on the meaning of crime and criminality. (Bohm
Vogel). The criminalization process is the primary focus instead of the peculiarities of the criminal
actor. They believe that criminals are the product of a negative social reaction.
The interactionism and labeling theory comes from the symbolic interactionism of George H. Meade.
(Bohm Vogel). Meade based his ideas on 3 propositions. The first is that human beings act toward
tings based on the meaning things have for them. People interpret the same events based on the
meanings attached to them the second is that the meaning of things are based on the social interactions
that one has with his fellows.

The Pros And Cons Of Corporal Punishment
A new study suggested that kids who suffered spanking may have relationship issues later in life.
According to the researchers, led by Dr. Jeff R. Temple of the University of Texas Medical Branch,
children who experienced corporal punishment have a tendency for domestic abuse upon adulthood.
In the study, the researchers surveyed 758 young adults, 61 percent were female, with a mean age of
20 years. They asked the participants on how often they were slapped, spanked or struck with an
object as punishment when they were young. The participants who experienced such punishment in
their childhood admitted to committing abuse on their dating partners.
The findings specifically noted 68 percent of the participants experienced corporal punishment as
children, while 19 percent reported physical dating abuse perpetration. The result was sustained even
with controlled factors, such as gender, age, ethnicity, parental education, child physical abuse, and
childhood corporal punishment.
Corporal or physical punishment is a punishment designed to cause physical pain to a person,
commonly practiced at home and school settings. The common methods of corporal punishment are
spanking and paddling. The subject is a controversial topic even if it clearly delivers negative effects
in children.
You cannot punish out these behaviors that you do not want. There is no need for corporal punishment
based on the research. We are not giving up an effective technique. We are saying this is a

Essay On Petrarrchan Sonnet
Originally an Italian import, sonnet has become the most popular, almost the regular figure in English.
It originated in Sicily in the 13th Century with Giacomo da Lentino (1188 1240), a lawyer. The poetic
traditions of the Provençal region of France apparently influenced him, but he wrote his poems in the
Sicilian dialect. Some authorities credit another Italian, Guittone d Arezzo (1230 1294), with
originating the sonnet. The English word sonnet comes from the Italian word sonetto, meaning little
song. Some early sonnets were set to music, with accompaniment provided by a lute. The sonnet is the
emphatic statement of a dramatized self, that appeals to an imagined listener ... Show more content on

He enlarged the function of the sonnet to political and moral criticism and this has been followed by
later poets. Finally the sonnet came to be used for any subject which a short, concentrated lyric would
afford to evolve. Hence, we have Wordsworth s Composed Upon Westminister Bridge , Keat s On
First Looking into Chapman s Homer , Shelley s England in 1819 , Elizabeth Barrett Browning s
Sonnets from the Portuguese and so many memorable sonnets by so many famous poets. Longfellow,
Jones Very, G. H. Boker, and E. A. Robinson are generally appreciated for writing some of the best
sonnets in America. William Ellery Leonard, Elinor Wylie, Edna St. Vincent Millay, and W. H. Auden
have done distinguished work in the sonnet and the sonnet sequence in this century.Already, the
sonnet form has taken a unique position in the literary field. But the question inevitably comes is that
why has it proved so popular? Perhaps ,though minute in extent, it has immense elasticity: it can have
room for story elements; it can stage a brief dramatic scene; it can present a series of philosophical
reflections; it can survey a vast variety of reflections, understandings and moods within a tightly
organized

Galen Of Pergamon Research Paper
Galen of Pergamon: Ancient Greek Physician and Philosopher Considered one of the greatest minds in
Medicine, and the Philosophy of Medicine since history was recorded, Galen of Pergamon remains to
this day one of the most profound physicians, and medical researchers that lived. We know this,
because of his massive account of everything, he at times had anywhere from 10 20 scribes writing
down all of his ideas and theories as well as his thoughts and findings during the many surgical
procedures he undertook. His surviving writings make up about half of all ancient writings on
medicine today (Agita) Although Galen philosophised frequently he never viewed himself as a

The general consensus among scientists was that when the blood traveled through your body it was
one way and used up. Galen agreed and developed the theory to new extremes he stated that there
must be different types of blood and blood vessels, two separate pathways for two separate types of
blood that ran one way, that was regenerated in their corresponding organs of origin. Galen was so
ahead of his time he theorized that there was venous blood which was very dark that originated in the
liver and arterial blood which was very bright must come from the heart. He did not know at the time
that alveolar exchange and therefore oxygenation was responsible for the visual differences. He also,
by frequent vivisection and dissection, distinguished some seven pairs of previously unknown cranial
nerves and demonstrated that the the brain was responsible for controlling the voice by tying off the

The Misinterpretation Of The Mozart Effect
Often when we are curious about something, we rely on the internet, or other media, to give us the
knowledge we seek as it is filled with endless amounts of information. What we find can be enriching
and perhaps even change our lives for the better. However, there is a downside to so much access not
every single article we read on the web or every report we hear on the news will be true or accurate.
With the whole world practically being able to access media, sometimes there are misinterpretations
between sources or intentional manipulation of something that was once true. This is what happened
with the so called Mozart Effect : the claim that listening to classical (or Mozart) music would make
people smarter which spread like wildfire ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We all like the easy road whether we want to admit it or not, so quick fixes appeal to us. Therefore,
when people heard of Rauscher s report, their minds convinced them to ignore the stated results from
the research and instead convinced themselves that somehow listening to classical music would all of
a sudden make you smarter. This included quick improvements as well which led people to also twist
the story because they wanted an easy and fast way to help their children become smarter without
much effort. Another possible reason why these misinterpretations developed was due to social
pressure. Someone, even if they are skeptical at first, may subconsciously flip their thoughts and go
with the crowd and believe the false stories. This seems easier than disagreeing with everyone and
would be much more convenient than to look into the issue and see if the stories were really true or

How Blanche Dubois Changes
In Tennessee William s famous play A Streetcar Named Desiree, the main character, Blanche Dubois,
is a unique, multifaceted individual. She enters the play having experienced many tragedies in her life,
which greatly affect the person she is over the course of the play. After analyzing all the details in the
text referring to Blanche Dubois, from dialogue to stage directions, it is evident that she is a
fascinating, complex character. During the performance, the audience is constantly learning new
information about Blanche from scene to scene, which helps them to develop a better overall
understanding of her. Also, the audience observes Blanche s complex character to undergo several
changes throughout the course of the show. Some of the significant ... Show more content on

She even says to her sister, Stella, who she is staying with, I want you to look at my figure! You know
I haven t put on one ounce in ten years, Stella? I weigh what I weighed the summer you left Belle
Reve (Williams 22). Although Blanche initially seems very full of herself and overly interested in her
appearance, the audience later discovers that this behavior is part of the façade she works to maintain.
Blanche is very insecure about her appearance and confidence, particularly around men. Before her
date with Mitch, Blanche defends her current nervous condition by saying to her sister, Mitch Mitch is
coming at seven. I guess I am just feeling nervous about our relations. [She begins to talk rapidly and
breathlessly] He hasn t gotten a thing but a goodnight kiss, that s an I have given him, Stella. I want

Thomas Nast Research Paper
As the whole election cycle starts, so do the political cartoonists, journalists, and pundits. While we
modern readers use old newspapers as advice to assist us with our research, back then, newspapers
were hardly ever used. That is until, Thomas Nast came along. Thomas Nast was a german immigrant
born Landau, Germany, on September 27, 1840. Thomas dad, also named Thomas, held liberal
political sediments. Thomas Nast s family loved their home in Germany, but they found Germany s
political climate corrupt and uncomfortable. So Nast s dad sent his wife and his young son and
daughter to New York, where Thomas would later meet them in 1849 once his enlistment was up.
From a very early age, Nast showed a lot of interest in drawing. He did very ... Show more content on

Was he set free? Was he Killed? I will tell you all what happened to him. In 1873( yes we are going to
take it back a little bit) Tweed was tried in court and had to pay charges because of forgery and
larceny, and in front of that, he was found to be guilty and was put in jail for only two years!
Personally, I think he should have stayed in jail for a much larger time. After he was released in 1875,
Tweed was not let off easy. The New York state filed a civil suit against him in order to recover most
of the millions of dollars that he had taken from the New York treasury. Tweed was found guilty,
AGAIN, and he was arrested, AGAIN. Tweed was taken to a not so serious jail. It was more of an
apartment if you ask me. It had two rooms, and a small library where he could pass time and not get
bored. Tweed was also allowed to get visits and he had an aide. Tweed even convinced the jail warden
to let him go out sometimes and visit relatives and take carriage rides through Central Park. But, it
wasn t so easy for Tweed. There were two guards following him everywhere he went, just so he
wouldn t escape. So he created an escape plan. On December 4th,1875, Tweed somehow convinced
his two guards to stop for dinner at his wife s home. But at 6:30 that night, Tweed said he had to
excuse himself because he had to go check on his sick wife. Once out of the guards sight, he grabbed
his coat, and ran out the front door. He jumped on his getaway carriage (in which he secretly arranged
by paying somebody about $60,000 to get), but by the time his guards went to go check on him, he
had already left the building. On his getaway carriage, he was taken to the banks of the Hudson river
and was taken by rowboat to Weehawken, New

  • 2. Alexander The Great s Large Accomplishments Alexander the Great s large accomplishments in the third century BC changed the landscape of Afro Eurasia in ancient times, and arguably through modern day. With the growth of his empire came the spread of Hellenistic culture throughout the lands he conquered. From the Mediterranean to Asia to the Middle East he helped expand trade routes and most of all the spread of ideas in religion, politics, and culture. One of the larger aspects of this spread of culture from Alexander was the expansion of the Greeks language across Afro Eurasia. As he conquered the lands the Greek language quickly became used by the people he took over, especially in trade systems and political structures that arose. The newly grown Empire basked in the benefit of a common language, now allowing traders and merchants to understand each other even through the mixed backgrounds. ADD SOMETHING ABOUT THE POLITICAL SYSTEM BENIFITTING FROM THE LAUGUAGE. The common language also introduced people to Greek art, drama, and philosophy. Schools were built all around to teach the citizens of Greek philosophical ideas such as Epicureanism and Stoicism. The culture and political environment created by Alexander s Empire made the competition of Greek city states almost obsolete. This competition being gone helped to create a mentality more focused on being part of a vast Empire, rather than being the citizen of a certain city state which had till this time been a predominate part of Greek culture and politics. ... • 3. How Discipline Is Not Easy Discipline has always been, to me, a thought of growing in yourself or in this case growing in your relationship with Christ. Discipline is not easy, in fact, it is hard, but the results are what we discipline ourselves for. Celebration of Discipline was a very eye opening and insightful book in many aspects. Foster, the author, describes spiritual discipline as an inward and outward reality. Meaning, the inner and outward attitude of the discipline. The bible uses spiritual discipline to describe fasting, prayer, worship, and even celebration. When Jesus spoke of spiritual discipline, he hardly gives instruction of how to discipline ourselves spiritually. This book book gives more of an outline/guidance to types of disciplines that could help you in your spiritual journey. There are three types of disciplines discussed in this book, along with many sub categories within each type. All these groups are used to help one form a more well rounded spiritual life. The types are inward, outward, and corporate discipline. Inward discipline is a type of discipline that focuses on your inner self/spiritual life. This involves things like praying, meditation, fasting, and studying. Outward disciple is more of what you can do as an individual to discipline yourself spiritually, such as simplicity, solitude, submission, and service. These are still self centered but more focused on the outside actions rather than the inside actions. Finally, we have the corporate discipline. This ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Hinduism And The Beliefs Of Christianity And Hinduism All around the world, there are billions of people who practice whatever religion they support. Today I am here to talk about a couple of religions which are called Christianity and Hinduism. I will talk about their origins, there beliefs, and how it has impacted the community around it. My first religion will be one of the most popular religions that are used today due to its number of followers is Christianity. This is a monotheistic religion, meaning that its people only believe in one god. It was developed from Judaism, but has a few differences in its teachings. It was developed in Judea, which Is now known as Israel in the middle east next to the Mediterranean sea.. It was founded by Jesus of Nazareth and his disciples who helped him spread his teachings in the year 30 CE. One of their beliefs is that there is only one god and only one. As you saw earlier that is called a monotheistic religion. They were taught to call his father due to Jesus Christ teachings. Jesus is god s son. He was sent down from above to save mankind from death and sin. In other words he was sent to fulfil god s job, not teach it. Another one of their beliefs is what happens to them after they die. They believe that they either go to heaven or hell. They believe that even though they are buried or cremated that their soul can still live on and be brought up into a new life with god. They believe that this is possible because three days after Jesus died he arose from the ground and they ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The nurses walking around with files and stethoscopes around their necks. I was officially at the doctor s office. I had checked in and sitting in pain with all these noises going on, thinking that it would be just a regular visit. But little did I know, from that day on it would be a life changing experience to my identity. My whole life s been a chase, it s a gift and a curse. Was on my way up to the top then slipped into reverse. I was at the doctor s office for a messed up shoulder. Not thinking he would say anything about getting older. They had me sit patiently in pain while they were scanning away my arm to see what was the cause of all this. The doc showed me the x rays and said you ll be fine, it s just a frozen shoulder blade. But do you see this here ? I immediately said yeah like, what is it? He points his finger at the x ray and tells me what no 18 year old, 5 foot 5 boy that is playing hockey wants to hear, you re done growing. My stiffened like I had seen a ghost. My heart had stopped like something was stuck in my throat. I could feel the rapids of water hit the dam behind my eyes and when I stepped outside, that dam broke. I couldn t hold the tears back. In 1925, universal male suffrage was introduced, increasing the electorate from 3.3 to 12.5 million. Yet as the left pushed for further democratic reforms, right wing politicians pushed for legislation to ban organisations that threatened the state by advocating wealth distribution or political change. This resulted in 1925 s Peace Preservation Law , which massively curtailed political freedom. As the left disintegrated, ultra nationalism began to loom large. Japanese nationalism was born at the end of the nineteenth century. During the Meiji period, industrialisation, centralisation, mass education and military conscription produced a shift in popular allegiances. Feudal loyalties were replaced by loyalty to the state, personified by the Emperor. Why did japan make an alliance with germany The two fascist powers, both being militarist, were greatly nationalistic and had the ability to annex other nations. Japan, being discriminated against during the Paris Peace Conference and the Washington Conference, desired an opportunity to prove its power to the world, and the conquering was how the nation would accomplish this task. • 8. The Worst Hard Time Summary Timothy Egan writes the book The Worst Hard Time. In the book, it has a build up to how the Dust Bowl occurred, and it explains the effects of the Dust Bowl through families that were in the plains. Then to the end of the book, things are starting to turn around when Franklin D. Roosevelt visits the Great Plains. Timothy Egan s thesis is that from the beginning, the whole United States starts to tip the balance of the Great Plains, which led to the Dust Bowl, and the people hitting rock bottom; however, two opposite ideas come together with faith that the Great Plains can be rebalance. Egan writes in an inspiring tone that gives a feeling of understanding how the people felt in the worst time, and he stays on topic of his main point but is slightly bias. In the beginning of the book, Timothy Egan effectively show that the removal of Indians and the XIT ranch was the start line to the Dust Bowl. Egan writes about how the United States drives both the Indians and the cowboys out of the Midwest for the farmers, which Egan signals that this is the spark that started the worst hard time. Egan explains this by writing, This grass was never meant to be plowed, James told his fellow cowboys. By writing this, Egan shows that the cowboys know that the farmers should not have used the land for crops, because they know that the rain will not always be there. Throughout the first chapters, Egan continues to give scenarios that tip the balances like the effect of the clearing of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Living Behind The Veil In Saudi Arabia A veil is a piece of sheer material worn by women to conceal their faces, that very piece of material symbolizes sacredness. In traditional Christian religion the veil is worn by the bride in white on her wedding day as she approaches her groom at the alter. He uncovers her face at the end of the ceremony and they kiss. Once that tradition is done the bride and the groom live their lives together without her ever having to wear the veil again. However, In the Muslim religion predominantly in Saudi Arabia the veil is also considered sacred, but used for different purposes. For the women of Saudi Arabia wearing the veil is part of their everyday life. In fact it is forbidden for them not to wear it, their veil is worn routinely. The women of Saudi should know that living behind the veil is a form of abuse toward them. A life in front of the veil is more enjoyable and liberating. Just because they walk in the street without their veil does not make them promiscuous nor should they be punished for it. Living behind the veil may be all the women of Saudi Arabia know, some may be comfortable with it, others afraid of the consequences they will face for not wearing it. Thesis Statement: Author Charles Chesnutt in the short story, The Passing of Grandison creates the main character to reveal the conflict of man versus society to portray the lives of slaves in the 1950 s and what they had to endure to fit in a white world. III. Body Paragraphs: 1. The first example that explores the conflict of man versus society is shown when Colonel Owens warns Grandison about the abolitionists. It is a clear demonstration that he is against the abolitionist and wants to make sure Grandison is too. He describes them as desperate lunatics who starve runaway slaves until they die. Another example that reveals what slaves had to endure to fit in a white world was when Grandison and Dick Owens traveled to the north. Dick sets up Grandison to have encounters with abolitionist, but things do not go as planned. Dick writes letters to several abolitionists letting them know he had a slave with him so they could come to look for Grandison. It seemed like no matter what tactic Dick was using to make Grandison escape, it was not working. Cardiac arrest is a grave medical emergency where the heart stops pumping blood throughout the body and can lead to death in minutes. There are currently 30,000 out of hospital cardiac arrest in UK (Perkins, 2016). In coronary artery disease there is a obstruction in the arteries that supply blood and oxygen to the heart. The development of an atherosclerotic plaque is relatively a very a complicated process where Plaque rupture accounts for about 76% of fatality lead by thrombi. The evolution of atherosclerosis begins with foam cell accumulation where the macrophages accumulate within arterial wall intima, progresses to form fatty streak where further accumulation of intra and extracellular lipids, this is a potentially reversible stage (Greenland p, 2013) further atheroma/fibroatheroma forms where cholesterol and phospholipids accumulate intramurally. This is a vulnerable state as it is predisposed to spontaneous rupture by inflammation and thrombus deposition may occur. Hemodynamic changes during this stage may cause ischemia or silent infarction, if large plaque rupture total occlusion may cause myocardial infarction or sudden cardiac death. Finally a complex lesion can develop where fibro muscular tissue can be seen with repair efforts followed by repeated plaque formation, this may slowly increase in size and produce significant arterial narrowing. Coronary arteries undergo a compensatory mechanism in relation to the area of the elastic lamina, which is involved with plaque this is known as adaptive or positive remodelling where it preserves the artery until 40% of the lesion is occupied, thus stenosis may not be clinically evident and can be asymptomatic. In today s world, prejudice is taking place more than one might think. Prejudice is very negative and often causes unhappiness. Truman Capote explains this by using negative imagery of stereotypes throughout A Christmas Memory, to show how society s stereotypes restrict happiness and lead to negativity. Truman Capote uses negative imagery to explain how prejudice could potentially negatively influence people s happiness. In A Christmas Memory, Buddy, the main character, and his aunt were baking fruitcakes. They need to get whiskey to finish their fruitcake. They ask Mr. Haha, a supposed evil man for it. Habitat Snowy egrets inhabit marshes, ponds, swamps, and mudflats (Bull Farrand). Since snowy egrets are wading birds, like other herons and egrets, they prefer habitats that are close to water. Wading birds breed and build their nests in close proximity to water, allowing them to have access to food while raising their young. In North America, the snowy egret s favorite habitats include salt marshes, shallow bays, and mangroves. Snowy egrets prefer similar habitats throughout South and Central America and the Caribbean (Weslosky, 2002). Conservation Biology Life cycle and reproduction Breeding colonies, sometimes of multiple different species, form on islands surrounded by water or guarded by a vegetative buffer. Such features are presumed to be desirable due to the protection they provide from predators on the ground (Frederick, 2002). Nests are often built using sticks, reeds, and other vegetation and constructed in trees, shrubs, or other aquatic vegetation (Elphick, 2014). A clutch consists of 3 5 eggs, a pale blue green in color, laid in a nest located in a bush or reedbed, specific to the species of egret (Bull Farrand, 1994). Breeding season begins in March or early April and males will perform both flight and vocal displays to attract females. Snowy egrets are social nesters

  • 16. Compare And Contrast The Mexian Revolution And French... A revolution is a rebellion of the government with force in favor of a new and better form of government. During the French Revolution, King Louis XVI and his wife, Queen Antoinette, were heavily indebted from spending their money recklessly, which led to high taxes for peasants. In result, the peasants overthrew King Louis XVI from his position. During the Mexican Revolution, Porfirio Diaz became a dictator that limited one s freedom and the imbalance of social classes. Likewise, the leaders removed Porfirio from his position, but it created a bigger problem. People started backstabbing each other to take over the leadership of Mexico. The French Revolution was similar to the Mexican Revolution because both nations went through harsh conditions to establish a better government, both of their governments abused their power, and both achieved human rights in many ways. The Mexican Revolution was similar from the French Revolution because they both went through a phase of peasants in poverty and being treated harshly, wanting a change. According to an excerpt by Francisco Madero in November 20, 1910, it states, The oppressive government has gotten bad. We cannot accept it anymore... I need to put myself in front of my fellow citizens. People have placed their confidence in me. (Doc. 1) This evidence shows that both revolutions started because of the unfair laws in the nation placed by the government. They wanted to revolt because they wished for a nation with freedom and rights. This evidence proved that both revolutions had the willpower to fight back for what they want. The French Revolution was at war in their nation, where many men and women fought for their own individual rights and not depending on other to fight for them. Additionally, in a excerpt by John Reed in June 1914, it states, They are fighting because they want something that they can get no other way. The peasants are sick of war. They do not enjoy starvation, thirst, cold, nakedness, and wounds. This has been happening for 3 years. (Doc. 2) This quote demonstrates that peasants fought for freedom, and they were sick of being poor. They wanted a positive change in their life that would benefit them by revolting the government. • 18. Potassium ( K + ) Channels Potassium (K+) channels are ubiquitous throughout biological systems as they are found in many different cell types including prokaryotes, eukaryotes and archaea. (However, for the scope of this exam, the examples will be limited to K+ channels found in neurons.) They are tetrameric integral membrane proteins that assemble to form transmembrane aqueous pores. Their basic function is to allow the passive flow of potassium ions down an electrochemical gradient rapidly and with high specificity. The high specificity of these channels is crucial in excitable cells such as neurons as they are able to exclude sodium ions (Na+) despite the sub angstrom difference between ionic radii, which allows for the establishment of ion gradients as well as a delayed flow between sodium and potassium ions to shape action potentials. This specificity also allows the channels to establish and maintain the resting potential in many cells. All potassium channels have a distinctive, universal feature of two transmembrane (TM) helices and a short loop ( P loop ) between them that lines the top of the pore and is responsible for potassium selectivity. This canonical feature is referred to as 2TM/P. In terms of membrane topology, there are two broad classes of K+ channels: 1) the two transmembrane helix (2TM/P) subunit, typical of the inward rectifying (KIR) channels and, 2) the 6 transmembrane helix (6TM/P) subunit, typical of voltage gated (KV ) subtypes. It must be noted that the 6TM/P ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This was not good because now Standard Oil was able to set the new standards for the market, including quality of the product and price. The second image shows a nerdy guy that is revealed to be a rock star deep down. Both of these advertisements were produced by Old Spice to promote one of their products called After Hours body wash. Old Spice has found the ability to make every man wish that he were something better by using appeals to men s want for women and manliness. The first poster displays the main character with far less details than the second poster. While the first mainly focuses on the main character having a vague resemblance to a lumberjack, the second shows a highly detailed outer and inner character. Giving the audience a more vague view of the character allows for a more personal understanding of what the advertisement is portraying; whereas, displaying the character with more details and features shows a more specified character that could help the audience further understand the connection between the nerdy guy and his tough inner self. The more intricate details of the second poster show that the nerdy guy on the outside, is simply a man with little talent compared to his inner rock star self. His inner self is shown to be playing a two guitars and a saxophone all at the same time portraying his more advanced skills. He has the ability to do what the nerdy guy wishes he could do but can t. The bikini top jumps at the fact that the rock star does well with women, something that the nerdy guy could never accomplish himself without the help of the Old Spice body wash. • 22. History Of Geology Of Ethiopia 1.5 Review of Literatures According to (EIGS, 2010); the geology of Ethiopia is characterized by different rock types ranging in age from Precambrian to recent. These rocks are classified into three major geological formations: Precambrian rocks, Paleozoic Mesozoic sedimentary rocks and Cenozoic volcanic rocks and associated sediments. (Ebinger et al., 1993); Volcanic activity in the southern MER started earlier than in the other MER sectors, since the oldest rocks were dated at about 45 Ma (Amaro Gamo basalts). Such an initial, mainly basaltic activity ended around 30 Ma (Zanettin et al., 1978). The most important geologic units are outlined below from the oldest to the youngest. The lowermost unit corresponds to the Tertiary basaltic sequences that cover large areas of Ethiopia and are comprehensively known as Plateau Flood basalts or Trap Series. These basalts represent the first volcanic activity related to the Tertiary rifting in Ethiopia, although this volcanic phase predates the main rifting events (Abebe et al., 2005; Bonini et al., 2005). According (Zanettin et al., 1978), the alkaline basaltic lava flows are about 30 36 Ma in age and crop out at the northern termination of the Chencha escarpment to mildly in the Soddo Arba Minch areas. Damot Volcano is a large and complex silicic volcanic center; which rises over 1000 m from the surrounding rift escarpment, locally overlies the Nazret pyroclastic rocks. • 41. An Open Message On All E Mail Users An open message to all e mail users: In recent weeks you may have received a slightly greater than usual number of e mails purporting to be invoices or collection notices from a wide variety of sources. Despite our utilization of state of the art e mail filtering mechanisms, it is inevitable that a certain number of these messages will still get through. Ill willed entities (with various motivations) are continuously attempting to obviate whatever protective mechanisms are placed in their way. I would like to take this opportunity to remind all e mail users of the following advice: If a message appears to come from an unexpected source, an entity you have never dealt with, or to which you have never given your business e mail address, you should immediately be at least somewhat suspicious of its authenticity. If a message makes claims regarding a business connection or account which does not exist, you should also be suspicious. Such messages almost never come from a legitimate business that is merely mistaken about these sorts of things. They are almost always fake. If the sender s purported address does not match the purported sender s business name, be very suspicious. For instance, if a message appears to be a collection notice from American Express, but the sender s e mail address appears as poubelle2167@reparationdevelosdesttropez.fr, you should immediately be suspicious. Do look carefully, though, as a sender will sometimes use a clever, but not quite ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 42. The Death of the Ball Turret Gunner by Randal Jarrell In the first line of the The Death of the Ball Turret Gunner Jarrell states, When I died they washed me out of the turret with a hose (5). Jarrell does not elaborate; he makes it very clear that war is gruesome. However, the literary techniques used in the other four lines of Death of the Ball Turret Gunner give this theme even deeper meaning and make his point so effective. Jarrell criticizes the government for its insensitivity toward the fate if its solders. Jarrell does mention how scared the gunner is, or call out the government for the brutalities and terrors the gunner has witnessed and experienced; he simply states the events that occurred, allowing the reader to make these conclusions for himself. Jarrell uses imagery to convey the gruesome horrors of combat, perplexity to simultaneously establish the gunner s emotional condition, and finally tone to portray the government s perspective of soldiers that die. The imagery Jarrell uses not only conveys the terrifying situation the ball turret gunner is in, it also exhibits the difference between the gunner s previous experiences and his current situation. The first line indicates the ball turret gunner safe. He mentions his mother s sleep (1), meaning the sleep during which he is in her womb. This gives the reader the impression that he came from a protected, warm, and comfortable environment. This environment contradicts with his present situation being, hunched in its belly till my wet fur froze (2). The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 44. Interaction And Labeling Theory Interaction and Labeling Theory The interaction and labeling theories are focused on the meaning of crime and criminality. (Bohm Vogel). The criminalization process is the primary focus instead of the peculiarities of the criminal actor. They believe that criminals are the product of a negative social reaction. The interactionism and labeling theory comes from the symbolic interactionism of George H. Meade. (Bohm Vogel). Meade based his ideas on 3 propositions. The first is that human beings act toward tings based on the meaning things have for them. People interpret the same events based on the meanings attached to them the second is that the meaning of things are based on the social interactions that one has with his fellows. ... • 45. The Pros And Cons Of Corporal Punishment A new study suggested that kids who suffered spanking may have relationship issues later in life. According to the researchers, led by Dr. Jeff R. Temple of the University of Texas Medical Branch, children who experienced corporal punishment have a tendency for domestic abuse upon adulthood. In the study, the researchers surveyed 758 young adults, 61 percent were female, with a mean age of 20 years. They asked the participants on how often they were slapped, spanked or struck with an object as punishment when they were young. The participants who experienced such punishment in their childhood admitted to committing abuse on their dating partners. The findings specifically noted 68 percent of the participants experienced corporal punishment as children, while 19 percent reported physical dating abuse perpetration. The result was sustained even with controlled factors, such as gender, age, ethnicity, parental education, child physical abuse, and childhood corporal punishment. Corporal or physical punishment is a punishment designed to cause physical pain to a person, commonly practiced at home and school settings. The common methods of corporal punishment are spanking and paddling. The subject is a controversial topic even if it clearly delivers negative effects in children. You cannot punish out these behaviors that you do not want. There is no need for corporal punishment based on the research. We are not giving up an effective technique. We are saying this is a ... • 46. Essay On Petrarrchan Sonnet Originally an Italian import, sonnet has become the most popular, almost the regular figure in English. It originated in Sicily in the 13th Century with Giacomo da Lentino (1188 1240), a lawyer. The poetic traditions of the Provençal region of France apparently influenced him, but he wrote his poems in the Sicilian dialect. Some authorities credit another Italian, Guittone d Arezzo (1230 1294), with originating the sonnet. The English word sonnet comes from the Italian word sonetto, meaning little song. Some early sonnets were set to music, with accompaniment provided by a lute. The sonnet is the emphatic statement of a dramatized self, that appeals to an imagined listener ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He enlarged the function of the sonnet to political and moral criticism and this has been followed by later poets. Finally the sonnet came to be used for any subject which a short, concentrated lyric would afford to evolve. Hence, we have Wordsworth s Composed Upon Westminister Bridge , Keat s On First Looking into Chapman s Homer , Shelley s England in 1819 , Elizabeth Barrett Browning s Sonnets from the Portuguese and so many memorable sonnets by so many famous poets. Longfellow, Jones Very, G. H. Boker, and E. A. Robinson are generally appreciated for writing some of the best sonnets in America. William Ellery Leonard, Elinor Wylie, Edna St. Vincent Millay, and W. H. Auden have done distinguished work in the sonnet and the sonnet sequence in this century.Already, the sonnet form has taken a unique position in the literary field. But the question inevitably comes is that why has it proved so popular? Perhaps ,though minute in extent, it has immense elasticity: it can have room for story elements; it can stage a brief dramatic scene; it can present a series of philosophical reflections; it can survey a vast variety of reflections, understandings and moods within a tightly organized ... Galen Of Pergamon Research Paper Galen of Pergamon: Ancient Greek Physician and Philosopher Considered one of the greatest minds in Medicine, and the Philosophy of Medicine since history was recorded, Galen of Pergamon remains to this day one of the most profound physicians, and medical researchers that lived. We know this, because of his massive account of everything, he at times had anywhere from 10 20 scribes writing down all of his ideas and theories as well as his thoughts and findings during the many surgical procedures he undertook. His surviving writings make up about half of all ancient writings on medicine today (Agita) Although Galen philosophised frequently he never viewed himself as a Philosopher, in fact he held hostility towards some of the Philosophers of ... Galen agreed and developed the theory to new extremes he stated that there must be different types of blood and blood vessels, two separate pathways for two separate types of blood that ran one way, that was regenerated in their corresponding organs of origin. Galen was so ahead of his time he theorized that there was venous blood which was very dark that originated in the liver and arterial blood which was very bright must come from the heart. • 48. The Misinterpretation Of The Mozart Effect Often when we are curious about something, we rely on the internet, or other media, to give us the knowledge we seek as it is filled with endless amounts of information. What we find can be enriching and perhaps even change our lives for the better. However, there is a downside to so much access not every single article we read on the web or every report we hear on the news will be true or accurate. With the whole world practically being able to access media, sometimes there are misinterpretations between sources or intentional manipulation of something that was once true. This is what happened with the so called Mozart Effect : the claim that listening to classical (or Mozart) music would make people smarter which spread like wildfire ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We all like the easy road whether we want to admit it or not, so quick fixes appeal to us. Therefore, when people heard of Rauscher s report, their minds convinced them to ignore the stated results from the research and instead convinced themselves that somehow listening to classical music would all of a sudden make you smarter. This included quick improvements as well which led people to also twist the story because they wanted an easy and fast way to help their children become smarter without much effort. Another possible reason why these misinterpretations developed was due to social pressure. Someone, even if they are skeptical at first, may subconsciously flip their thoughts and go with the crowd and believe the false stories. This seems easier than disagreeing with everyone and would be much more convenient than to look into the issue and see if the stories were really true or ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

While we modern readers use old newspapers as advice to assist us with our research, back then, newspapers were hardly ever used. That is until, Thomas Nast came along. Thomas Nast was a german immigrant born Landau, Germany, on September 27, 1840. Thomas dad, also named Thomas, held liberal political sediments. Thomas Nast s family loved their home in Germany, but they found Germany s political climate corrupt and uncomfortable. In 1873( yes we are going to take it back a little bit) Tweed was tried in court and had to pay charges because of forgery and larceny, and in front of that, he was found to be guilty and was put in jail for only two years! Personally, I think he should have stayed in jail for a much larger time. After he was released in 1875, Tweed was not let off easy. The New York state filed a civil suit against him in order to recover most of the millions of dollars that he had taken from the New York treasury. Tweed was found guilty, AGAIN, and he was arrested, AGAIN. Tweed was taken to a not so serious jail. It was more of an apartment if you ask me. It had two rooms, and a small library where he could pass time and not get bored. Tweed was also allowed to get visits and he had an aide. Tweed even convinced the jail warden to let him go out sometimes and visit relatives and take carriage rides through Central Park. But, it wasn t so easy for Tweed. There were two guards following him everywhere he went, just so he wouldn t escape. So he created an escape plan. On December 4th,1875, Tweed somehow convinced his two guards to stop for dinner at his wife s home. But at 6:30 that night, Tweed said he had to excuse himself because he had to go check on his sick wife. Once out of the guards sight, he grabbed his coat, and ran out the front door. He jumped on his getaway carriage (in which he secretly arranged by paying somebody about $60,000 to get), but by the time his guards went to go check on him, he had already left the building.
