Let s say your business works in the flower industry. You might discover that an article about
mother s day flowers on a popular blog includes broken links. Perhaps the links lead to a 404
page. But the link, with its keywords, is a perfect fit for your business. You can contact the
owner of the blog and inform them about the broken link. Naturally, the blog won t benefit
having articles with broken links and readers will quickly find them annoying and
uninformative. While you inform the owner about the broken link, you can also ask him or her
to replace the link with a link to your website. Since your link is a perfect fit, the owner doesn t
need to change the article around, but can simply remove the non operational link with a working
one. Why should you consider broken link building? As mentioned above, broken link building is
one of SEO strategies businesses could use. The practice has become more popular, driven by the
many benefits its offer. Firstly, broken link building works because the Internet is full of non
operational links. HowStuffWorks explained on its article on the subject, how the links on its site
can become broken as quickly as few months. The reasons behind the cause of broken link vary, but
the disruption and annoyance of encountering a broken link remains the same. Essentially, the
practice of broken link building isn t just about boosting your business. It is about making the

Essay on The Death of Innocence in The Catcher in the Rye
Holden identifies with, yearns for, and despises traits of the adult and child realms. In the novel The
Catcher in the Rye, by J.D. Salinger, the protagonist, Holden Caulfield, fears becoming an adult who
exhibits the characteristics that he holds complaints against. Throughout this Bildungsroman
narrative, Holden searchesfor his identity. He tries to figure out his place either in the adult or child
realm.
Holden possesses a combination of fear and hatred for phonies . Holden uses this term to describe a
wide range of people including shallow, superficial, fake, untruthful, or hypocritical individuals.

Since he knows so many phonies he may feel that by joining the adult world, one must submit to
a certain degree of phoniness , and he already has. Holden shows the characteristics of a
pathological liar, `May I ask your name, dear [Mrs. Morrow]? `Rudolf Schmidt, I told her...
Then I started shooting the old crap around a little bit... `your nose is bleeding, dear, ...`I got hit
with a snowball...One of those very icy ones. . Clearly, the way phonies lie rubs off on Holden.
Since Holden shows signs of a phony , and he hates phonies , he in a sense, hates himself. Holden
knows he has lost his own innocence; now he realizes he possesses the ability to protect the
innocence of other children. While narrating The Catcher in the Rye, Holden persistently uses the
word phony to describe many adults. This entails that people lose their innocence when entering the
adult realm.
Holden experiences the corruption and cruelty of the adult world. He interacts with individuals
who cause him physical and emotional pain. ...all of a sudden this booze hound her mother was

The Combahee River Collective
Our politics initially sprang from the shared belief that Black women are inherently valuable,
that our liberation is a necessity not as an adjunct to somebody else s may because of our need as
human persons for autonomy . The opening of the second part of The Combahee River Collective
Statement, What We Believe, expresses one of the major will of the Third World Feminist studies:
making Women a topic of research in its own rights. It s in 1977 that the Combahee River
Collective, a US radical feminist lesbian group, wrote this very famous manifesto that became
essential for the Black FeminismMouvement. They made as central the total recognition of the
different forms of oppressions, sexual, racial, social, that black women endure and the necessity to
fight against them. Therefore, the integration of notions of gender, sexuality, race, class in any
feminist analysis that deals with power and domination become unavoidable. They express clearly
the logical result of their struggle, the destruction of the political, social and economical system as
they are the representative basis of an unfair and racist society. To bring a fresh way of looking at
the position of some women in the American society turn to be a way to consider differently the
organisation and the functioning of the actors of a society on a national and also international level.
In 1982, some activists of the collective, Gloria Hull, Patricia Bell Scott and Barbara Smith,

Essay on Drugs and Rock and Roll
Drugs and Rock and Roll Beginning with the late 1960 s counterculture in San Francisco, music
and drugs will forever be inter linked. Hippie bands such as the Grateful Dead, the Allman
Brothers, and Phish are associated with marijuana, mushrooms, and LSD. Modern electronic rave
, or club music is associated with MDMA or Ecstasy. When one thinks of rock and roll, sex and
drugs immediately come to mind. While the use of drugs is not essential for the creation or
performance of all new music, it was certainly in important factor for the counterculture music of
the late 1960 s. While some of the most important and influential music was made with the help of
psychoactive drugs, it was often to the detriment of the artist. Janis... Show more content on

Psychedelics, and drugs in general became such an important part of life during the 60 s that it s
influence was inescapable. Nowhere can this fact be seen more clearly than in the music of the
time. The most obvious influence drugs had on music can bee seen in the lyrics. Drug
references abound, be it Jimi Hendrix s Purple Haze of marijuana smoke, or the Beatles Lucy in
the Sky with Diamonds , obviously referring to LSD. Even the names of the bands were drug
inspired, as Garofalo points out in reference to the Doors: The group took it s name from Aldous
Huxley s The Doors of Perception, a book about the liberating aspects of drug use. Even the
music itself was influenced by drugs. Take for example much of the music by the Doors. Their
song the End is a psychedelic journey in to the world of LSD. The slow beat and trippy music in
the song was probably created with the use of drugs and hence is better appreciated when heard
while on drugs. This is also true of the music of the Grateful Dead, although this can be much
more clearly seen in their live performances as opposed to their studio work. Much of their music
is geared specifically toward those in the audience who are on drugs. Hearing one of their 30
minute jams is a much different experience on drugs, and that is the experience that they intended
the audience to have. While drugs were very much connected to the music of the sixties,

Solemn Soot and Social Despair In the Transformative World...
Solemn Soot and Social Despair
In the Transformative World of William Blake England was changing. The rolling green shires
and inspiring scenery that was fixed in the earliest memories of the Romantic poets was quickly
vanishing. There was a trade off happening. Rivets for rocks, chimney stacks for trees,
locomotives for carriages and steal tracks for cobblestone. Piece by piece England s quaint
agricultural backdrop was being replaced by a stern industrial one. Progress! Some shouted. The
greater good! Others exclaimed. Expansion was becoming virtuous. In droves they came from the
country to work in London s factories. The machines ruled the fields now. Farmers turned their
plows in for hammers and the way peopled lived was never going to be the same.
A new social class was developing in England. It was the working class. And although a wider
segment of the population was producing, creating steam for the Empire, certain leading minds of
the time had to examine the under belly of this fiery beast. In William Blake s poems The Chimney
Sweeper and London he does just that. Through this examination Blake dwells on the theme of the
loss of innocence. He writes these two works in a straight forward tone, almost like a social
awareness pamphlet, urging the reader to wake up. And in typical Romantic fashion he does this
through stark imagery. What impression would a first time reader have after digesting these pieces
when first published? Depending on their class

Internet Security And The Internet
Internet Security The internet is a vast labyrinth of data for users to access. The internet is vast and
complex; therefore, it is essential that a user have a fundamental understanding to the power and
risks associated to using it. Much like the vast expanse of outer space, much of the internet is not
understood and can be scary to become lost in. Protecting the data that is available on the internet is
a daunting task with nearly zero possibility of complete protection. Sensitive data is often the target
of insidious hackers seeking notoriety or financial gain from stealing it. How can anyone expect to
protect this data from human or machine interfaces when the securityis created by a person or

Regrettably, the convenience of online shopping also brings great risk to those that utilize it;
however, there are a multitude of online shoppers that feel information security will self manage
given ample time (Miyazaki Fernandez, 2001). While this may seem naГЇve, it warrants merit as
many major banking institutions will forgive debt incurred due to fraudulent activities against
customers accounts.
Specific Risks to Data on the Internet Commonly used tactics are prevalent on the internet; in
fact, browser attacks have escalated exponentially towards internet users (Bugliesi, Calzavara,
Focardi Khan, 2015). In fact, browser attacks looking for cookies present such grave danger that
Bugliesi, Calzavara, Focardi Khan (2015) stated modern web browsers implement native
protection mechanisms based on the HttpOnly and Secure flags to shield session cookies from
unintended access by scripts injected into HTML code, as well as by sniffers tapping the client
server link of an HTTP connection (p. 509). Yet another serious risk factor to internet use is
browser attacks, which are insidious brute force attacks that savvy hackers will impose;
consequently, consumers will oftentimes enter a password to confirm an order and verify the intent
of an order (Jing Jang, Yi Chan Gen Yih, 2015). Would be hackers are staged to receive and
intercept passwords that are not adequately protected to steal them and act as the consumer without

Examples Of Leadership In Julius Caesar
Mark Antony s Leadership A leader s actions should motivate and inspire the group that they are
leading. The Tragedy of Julius Caesar, by William Shakespeare, depicts many strong and very
different portrayals of leadership. One of the leaders, Mark Antony, is a great friend and advisor
to Julius Caesar. Antony must deal with the aftermath of Caesar s murder for his own sake and
for his country s sake. Mark Antony s strong rhetoric and persuasive speech allow him to be an
effective leader. Antony is eloquent and very strong at convincing people to follow his lead. After
Caesar death, Antony tells Brutus that he wants to Produce [Caesar s] body to the marketplace,

Antony s sly words convince Brutus that him speaking at Caesar s funeral will benefit everyone.
Antony s language persuades the person who murdered his greatest ally, to have complete faith in
him. This characteristic of leadership demonstrates Antony s ability to meet his personal goals
using his dynamic speech skills. Brutus speaks before Caesar s funeral and mentions that Caesar
was ambitious. After Brutus speech, Antony makes an even better speech that refutes all of Brutus
points. Antony states that Caesar could not be ambitious because Caesar brought home wealth to
Rome, cried for the citizens, and that Caesar refused the crown three times. Antony cries after the
speech, and tells that citizens that judgement, thou art fled to brutish beasts (Shakespeare 83).
When Antony mentions this to the crowd, he causes the whole crowd to rethink their decision to
follow Brutus. Antony uses his words to convey to the crowd that Brutus could not possibly be
correct. Antony, crying after his speech, makes the Romans pity him and believe strongly in his
words. He furthers his cause by promoting to the crowd that they are a part of Caesar s will.
Antony states several times that he does not want the crowd to mutiny because Brutus is an

Issues of war ripped through families, cities, and eventually, the entire country. By making the
decision to go to the war, some would place the distinction of bravery on Cross. He, however, felt
like a coward. For he had given in to the society around him and their pressures. Instead of
following his heart and staying true to his morals, Cross took the easy way out. By fighting in
the war, he avoided the criticism and ridicule which marred draft dodgers and the lifetime of
embarrassment that was sure to follow. nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; The narrator is torn
between two worlds. In his heart and mind, he knows that the war is wrong and unjust. In his
family, town, and nation, however, he was expected to fight. He must cross a number of hurdles
on his way to a life altering decision. It seems the man has gotten beyond the idea of self
embarrassment. The problem for Cross, it seems, is the fact that his decision affects everyone
around him. Like any young man in those times, he was scared. Not scared of death, but scared
of life after the war. He knows that is he does not go to the war, his mother, his father, and all his
friends will share the burden of his embarrassment. That is why he must go to the war. In a noble
sort of way, Cross saves his family the embarrassment of draft dodging. In his mind, however, he

Theme Of The Boy In The Jacket By Gary Soto
Elementary school is a big step, especially getting ready for middle school. For example, if one is
bitter towards someone, meaning jealous or angry, then their middle school years won t go very
well. They will go through being angry and it will make them focus on less important things rather
than their studies or sports. Similar to the boy in The Jacketby Gary Soto, he goes through his life
being jealous of kids that are happy or have good relationships and new clothes. The boy does not
like the jacket his mother got him and, does not appreciate it enough, even though it gets the job
done. In other words, one does not get what they always want, one has to appreciate what they get,
this supports the overarching theme and is represented by the symbolism, the setting, and the
metaphors.

Alfred Adler And His Theory Of Individual Psychology

June 19, 2015 Introduction
The discipline of psychology has made tremendous progress since the days of Freud and Adler.
While much progress has been made in the practice of psychotherapy, most of the practices still
resonate with the views of the pioneers and are often improvements of these early theorists. The
concept of views the patient as a capable person with the will and ability to develop solutions to
their problems is upheld in contemporary practice. There is also the belief that effective treatment
is only possible if the solutions are placed in the context of the holistic life of the patient (Maniacci
Johnson Migalski, 2013). While these notions seem common sense, they trace their roots to one of
the fathers of psychology, Alfred Adler. Through his theory of Individual Psychology, Adler made
enduring contributions to the field of psychology. This research paper discusses the Alfred Adler
and his contributions to the theory and practice of psychology.
Biography
Alfred Adler is one of the leading contributors to the discipline of psychology. Adler is among the
pioneer contributors to the field of psychotherapy together with Sigmund Freud and Carl Jung.
Adler was born in Vienna, Austria in the year 1870 and as a toddler; he suffered from rickets and

Data security issues are a serious challenge to everybody who utilizes PCs. The ascent of the PC as
a typical business apparatus and the Internet as a typical method for business correspondence and

The cost of computer crime to business in the United States has ascended to $67 billion as per the

The Use Of Stereotypes In The 1967 Film Guess Who s Coming...
In the 1967 film, Guess Who s Coming to Dinner, the main characters bring home controversy when
they surprise their parents and friends with the news of their soon to be interracial marriage. Each
character brings a unique perspectives to the film, which in turn brings to light several different
issues. Throughout the film, there are many different ways in which communication is ineffective
and could have been improved. First, this paper will discuss examples of stereotypes presented in
the film. Next, it will explain complications in listening styles and how it affects communication
between characters. Finally, this paper will analyze process of conflict and how the prior points
influence the process.
According to the textbook, stereotyping is attributing a set of qualities to a person because of his
or her membership to some category (Beebe, Beebe, Redmond, 2011, 74). This can be seen
throughout the beginning of the film when John and Joey first interact with Mrs. Drayton and
again with Mr. Drayton. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In both cases, the accusers took a small amount of information as if they were a highly
representative factor. As a result, Mr. Drayton drew prejudicial conclusions about John and his
capabilities. As for Tillie, she overgeneralized and drew inaccurate conclusions about John and his
intentions with Joey. Although these are two specific examples of stereotyping in the film, they
are not the only instances. However, they are not pertinent to the purposes of this paper and will
not be listed. Each of these instances of stereotyping cut off the chance of successful
communication by letting the preconceived notions keep them from being open minded towards
John. Towards the end of the movie, John is talking to his father and says, You think of yourself as
a colored man, but I just think of myself as a man . This statement does a great job of exemplifying
the difference in stereotyping and not

The Red Wolf Thesis

people and they had no feelings but when I started reading Red Wolf it educated me on because
the way you think, you act the way you think and that s where the government got residential

to me is that chanie wenjack had died because of residential school. That says that residential
schools have a negative impact on the aboriginal society. Red wolf had a lot to the story but the
main points were that he was a youngster that was forced to go to a residential school by a
group of white men as he went there his whole identity was changed to be somewhat for
Christian. He got the help of an Indian agent to escape the school which was days away from
where he lived but managed to make it but ended up getting caught and put back into the

The Assassination of John F Kennedy
The Assassination of John F Kennedy
From source B we can learn many things about JFK s assassination. We learn that JFK was hit by 2
shots the second one killing him apparently hitting from the back, into his right temple.
Source B also stated that 3 shots were fired from the sixth floor of the Texas schoolbook
depository. The rifleman was named Lee Harvey
Oswald. Source B declares the assassination weapon to be a Mannlincher
carcano rifle. Source B written by the Warren Commission states
Oswald had no accomplices. To me this seems quite unbelievable. People who knew him in the
marines said he had a Pathetic Shot. The gun he apparently used would not be a weapon likely to

missile crisis.
Study sources G, H, I and J
How useful are these sources in providing information to support the view that Lee Harvey Oswald
was not acting alone?
These sources are useful in providing information that Oswald didn t act alone in the assassination
of JFK.
Source G shows eyewitness accounts contradict the Warren report. Jean

this, as she was familiar to guns. Gordon

How Patanjali Is Considered A Divine Messenger
Upanishadic wisdom converged on a shared belief in a universal law that guided the abiding
presence of religious and metaphysical forces in the lives of individuals and of the collective
destiny of all things in the universe. The Upanishadic teachings help us to understand how yoga
evolved.
Patanjali is historically understood to have been a divine messenger, born some time between
500 BC and 200 BC. The dates are uncertain to this day as the lives of the great sages and mystics
were not measured according to modern calendars, but rather, were imbued by the living oral
traditions that defined Upanishadic wisdom and knowledge. Some traditions held that Pantanjali
was not born of mother and father but was rather the incarnation of the god Adiesea. Adisesa is a
great king cobra whose body is the seal of the god Vishnu. The legend continues that the god Shiva,
the king of dance, invited Vishnu and other deities to see his famous dance, Tandava Nritya. As
Shiva danced, Vishnu immersed his own consciousness in the moment. His physical being
undulated in rhythm with the graceful movements of Shiva. During the performance of the dance,
Vishnu was seated on Adisesa, the great cobra. The cobra became short of breath under Vishnu s
weight, which seemed to increase with his enrapturement in the dance. The great cobra began to
gasp for air. At the end of the dance, Adesisa immediately felt release from the heavy pressure of
Vishnu s body. Adesisa asked Vishnu, How could it be

The Pros And Cons Of The Seventh Amendment
The ninth amendment is U.S. citizens are guaranteed their rights that are not listed on the
Constitution, such as the right to privacy. Some court cases that are tied with the ninth amendment
is the Griswold v. Connecticut (1965), Regents of the University of California v. Bakke (1978),
City of Richmond v. J.A. Orson Co (1989), Boy Scouts of America v. Dale (2000), and Grutter v.
Bollinger.
Griswold v. Connecticut was argued on March 28 29, 1965 and the decision of the Supreme Court
was decided on June 7, 1965. It was questioned whether or not the Constitution protected the rights
of marital privacy (limits government intrusion into private family matters) against restrictions for
a couple to receive counseling on using contraceptives. Mrs. Griswold had given counseling to a
married couple that had wanted to use birth control and it was against Connecticut law to do so.
The Supreme Court s ruling was that married couples have the right to privacy and the law was
declared unconstitutional as it violated the right of privacy. Married couples have the right to
private privacy.
The Regents of the University of California v. Bakke was argued on October 12, 1977 and decision
of the Supreme Court was decided on June 26, 1978. It was questioned if the University of
California violated the Equal Protection Clause and the Civil Rights Act of 1964 by having an
affirmative action policy that led to repeated rejection of Bakke s application for admission to UC
medical school at Davis.

The Development Of The Communist Manifesto In The European
The development of the communist manifesto in the European region has led to the influencing of

Through bourgeoisie, which incorporated the serfs and the middle ages, there were developed cities
in the ancient times that have developed to be the modern day cities. It is from the effects of
communism that America was discovered and the rounding of the Cape (Marx, Fredrick, 4). This in
return provided an opportunity for the growth and development of the bourgeoisie. In line with the
journal, the communist manifesto also brought about the development of the markets in the far
Asian regions of China. This accelerated industrialization in the region due to the need to increase
production of finished goods for the general population.
As a result of the population pressure witnessed in the European region, industrial developments
were monopolized and thus their production was insufficient to cater for the ever growing
population pressure in the European region. It was due to this that there was the need to
revolutionize machinery to cater for the production. This led to the improvements if the type of
engines from steam engines to modern systems of machinery that would produce sufficient goods
for the public. The development of modern forms of the market as described by Marx led to the
establishment of the global markets. The market developed was grown by the rapid developments
witnessed in commerce, formal means of communication through land and the improvements in the

What s Wrong With Online Marketing Advertising Practices
There are a number of types of products you should actively avoid. If you ve read our two part
series about Honest Marketing Techniques What s Wrong With Online Marketing Advertising
Practices you already know there are issues with uncontrolled advertising on the internet. Perhaps
you ve already been burned by purchasing a bad product, or with luck, you ve only been
suspicious that a given product may not be what it seems to be. In part one of this three part series,
we will first look at blind advertisements.
There is some similarity in product launches being seen lately, especially with ClickBank launches.
It isn t a problem with ClickBank per se, but as one of the most popular third party organizations

Blind copy on a $37 or $77 price point will sell the living daylights out of your product. It will
also destroy your customer list you just built, send refunds through the roof and create support
nightmares. Yes, I know that if you are an affiliate, you don t have to deal with the support issues,
but you will have lower income and ClickBank will withhold larger amounts from your checks to
cover the anticipated refund rates.
Compare that to the copy for an ethical advertisement. You get real information about what you
ARE going to get, so you know what to expect when you download the product. You don t get
exaggerated claims about how you will feel, or perhaps how much money you will make, but you
will get concrete information about what the product actually is and what benefits it provides.
I personally would never recommend any product that I haven t purchased myself and found to be
effective, and certainly not any product that doesn t provide up front information about exactly
what it is.
Second Rule: Loopholes and secrets are Blind too.
If the advertising copy promises a newly discovered loophole , you should be very, very careful
about the product. You should be aware that the great majority of loopholes are soon closed, often
even before major sales occur for the product that supposedly takes advantage of them.

Leonardo Fibonacci Research Paper
Leonardo Fibonacci was one of the greatest mathematicians to contribute to the math in the western
world we know of today. Often referred to as Fibonacci , he was considered to be the most talented
Western Mathematician of the middle ages.
Born to Guglielmo Bonacci of Pisa, a wealthy Italian merchant in 1170, Fibonacci travelled with
him as a young boy. It was in Buga (now known as Bejaia, Algeria) that Fibonacci learned about the
Hindu Arabic numeral system.
In 1202, a book called the Liber Abaci (Book of Albacus or Book of Calculation) was birthed from
the many merchants that Fibonacci learned systems of arithmetic from as he travelled the
mediterranean coast. This popularized the Hindu Arabic numerals in Europe.

Examples include the Brahmagupta Fibonacci identity, the Fibonacci search technique, and the

Furthermore, Fibonacci s contributions even though not as revolutionary as other scholars, made
ripples in the mathematics world. While Fibonacci spent time with Fredrick II, he dedicated his
Liber quadratorum (Book of Square Numbers) to Fredrick. Devoted entirely to Diophantine
equations of the second degree (containing squares) the Liber quadratorum is considered Leonardo

Leonardo Fibonacci s achievements and his shortcomings all came to a stop when his success of

death took place in Pisa, Italy.
Except for his role in spreading the use of the Hindu Arabic numerals, Leonardo s contribution to
mathematics has been largely overlooked. Thankfully, his contributions are available to the wester

receive a salary and a possible bonus based on EVA (Economic Value Added), a system Whole
Foods used to measure performance. In 2004, 86% of employees said they enjoyed their job and
82% felt empowered to do their best work at Whole Foods Markets. Whole Foods Markets
offered gain sharing programs to reward team members according to the store s contribution to
Whole Foods operating profit (additional 5 7% of team members wages). Whole Foods
encouraged stock ownership through three programs: A team member stock option plan (based on
job performance and length of time employed at Whole Foods), a team member stock purchase
plan (based on purchasing stock at 95% of market price), and a team member 401 (k) plan. To

Graphic Literary Criticism
Graphic Novels and Literary Criticism Graphic novels are a form of literature that is becoming
increasingly popular among panels of literary critics deservingly so despite their nonconformity
with the traditional ideology of what should be considered prose worthy of criticism. Graphic
novels share all of the same themes that a traditional novelhas but a graphic novelprovides
additional benefits. These benefits are including elements like their multiple visual graphics
which aid audiences and readers when reading the novel. These novels have developed over
many years and should be used in educational settings. Modernly enlightened graphic novelists,
such as Neil Gaiman and Will Eisner, are educated persona whom have written popular graphic
novels and these authors serve as a testament which aid with the reasoning of using graphic novels
in professional literary criticism settings. Graphic novels should no longer be considered on the
fringe of literature due to their aspects which over qualify the novel type to be considered for
means of literary uses.
Before a critic can qualify if a prose is considered literature they must understand exactly what
literature is because without doing so, than the idea of literature is held at popular belief without
understanding the horizons of the term literature. This topic is appropriate because when
discussing the legitimacy of graphic novels being considered literature, it will fail the uneducated
popular belief s standard due to the

Social Development And Journey Towards Autonomy
In 2009, I decided I wanted to be on birth control, even though I did not fully know my body or
complete family history. Soon after, I suffered from a Pulmonary Embolism, a blood clot in my
lung. The shortness of breath and severe agonizing chest pains were almost too horrible to bare.
My life almost came to a screeching halt. It was then I found out my familysuffered from a genetic
disorder and my mother realized we needed more open communication. Having open
communication with in the family positively influenced our family structure, in ways I could never
have imagined. Now I felt safe and secure in asking my mother everything; sex, love, school,
whatever it be. Parent and child relationships are a key factor in an adolescences social
development and journey towards autonomy. Our textbook, Exploring Lifespan development (Berk,

ethnic groups and cultures, warm, supportive parentingthat grants young people freedom to
explore while making appropriate demands for maturity fosters autonomy, [...] favorable self
esteem, and ease of separation in the transition to college (p. 329). Open discussion with the family
and adequate education are necessary to helping adolescents achieve a high standard of sexual

This can affect the American Airlines company in the competitive airlineindustry because if some

Discipline In Classroom Management And Classroom Management
Disciplining children is important to create a safe and fun learning environment. Discipline requires
knowledge, skill, sensitivity, and self confidence; like any art, it is something that one will acquire
through training and experience; it becomes easier with practice. Many people confuse discipline
with classroom management; discipline is one dimension of classroom management and classroom
management is a general term. Discipline can also have a positive influence on both the individual
and classroom environment. Utilizing disciplinary actions can be an opportunity to reflect and
learn about consequences, instill collective values, and encourage behavior that is acceptable for
the classroom. Recognition of the diversity of values within communities can increase
understanding and tolerance of different disciplinary techniques. Promoting positive correction of
questionable behavior within the classroom dynamic, as opposed to out of class punishments like
detention, suspension, or expulsion, can encourage learning and discourage future miss behavior.
Learning to own one s bad behavior can also contribute to positive growth in social emotional
learning. Throughout the history of education, the most common means of maintaining discipline
in schools was corporal punishment. While a child was in school, a teacher was expected to act as
parents with many forms of parental discipline or rewards open to them. This often meant that
students were commonly chastised with the strap

The Story of the Puppet
Not even four feet tall the stocky, little man in patchy, homemade overalls was every bit of
invisible behind the massive haunches of Tiny, the circus s eldest, and in his opinion, smelliest,
African Elephant. Muttering obscenities beneath his breath, never missing a beat, Puppet
shoveled heavy scoopfuls of dung off the boxcar s floor and into an old wheelbarrow, pausing
only long enough to lean the shit stick against the wall before he grabbed the handles of the
wheelbarrow, his dark complexion reddening from the weight, and headed out to ditch the stink
someplace where it wouldn t be noticed until the circus was just a memory. He hated this work,
hated how all the fancy pants, the trapeze artists, the animal trainers, even the side show freaks
treated him as nothing more than a trained pet; existing only to clean up after them or serve them
in whatever fashion they so desired. He was even forced to bed down with the tamer animals. He
blamed the ringleader, Master Drachen, who since coming upon an abandoned toddler boy of
color in the middle of Arkansas during the early forties had rescued him only to make him a
perpetual slave and personal object of ridicule. When Puppet was young he d been grateful to
Master Drachen, quietly obedient, but as the years wore on the insults piled up; the sound of
laughter around the campfire, almost always directed at him, began echoing in his ears, their taunts
making his eyes sting and his heart ache more than the frequent beatings

Family and the General Systems Theory
The word family can be defined in many ways. When I think of the word family, I think of two or
more individuals who are sometimes related by blood or through a strong bond of unconditional
love, as well as, a shared experience, values, responsibilities, the law, even related through a
community. Different families view themselves in different ways. They have different roles, have
certain boundaries or rules, communicate and solve problems in a different way, and can adjust to
change differently. I will discuss my own familyand how I view my family through the lens of the
General Systems theoryand apply each central property as it contains to my family and how we
communicate. There are six significant properties within the General systems theory,
wholeness, interdependence, boundaries and openness, hierarchies and subsystems, calibration
and feedback, and lastly there is equifinality. I consider family to be two or more people.
Everywhere I go I usually look at the family as a circle instead of seeing them each as an
individual person. I look at a family as a circle because they all are bonded in some sort of way.
Wholeness could be thought of as a circle, because a circle can be defined as one whole figure.
Many times a family view themselves as one whole figure or wholeness. Wholeness is defined as
the way the family view themselves. The family unit has a personality that is shaped by the
combination of each members (Turner). No one can truly understand a family

The Natural Disasters Of San Francisco
There are so many natural disasters throughout the world that happen every day; some worse than
others. The 1906 San Francisco earthquake would be one of the worse disasters. Many people were
killed and wounded on that day. Although the earthquake lasted less than a minute, it still caused
the worst natural disaster in the country s history. The California earthquakeis known to be one of
the most remarkable earthquakes of all time.
San Francisco is known to be the Paris of America . It was very popular in industry and culture at
the time. San Francisco had about 410,000 locals and kept gaining more and more rapidly. The day
before the devastating and terrifying event, everyone was going on throughout the day like they
normally would. No one was expecting what was about to happen that next morning.
The next morning at 5:12 a.m., on April 18, 1906 an enormous earthquake shook San Francisco.
It was an estimate of 7.8 8.3 on the Richter scale. Although only lasting about 40 60 seconds, it
destroyed many homes and businesses and killed numerous people. Many were left homeless,
without a place to go. Out of the 410,000 people who lived in San Francisco, about 300,000
people were without a home and around 3,000 people lost their lives throughout the state of
California. The earthquake was devastating. The survivors had to sleep in tents and wait in long
lines for food.
The earthquake also started fires that burned for three days. Within just a few hours 52 fires had

Even though the Iroquois and other Native American tribes had forged alliances with rivaling
European powers they were unable to maintain any leverage economically and militarily during

the Dutch came across the island of Manhattan in 1609 and sailed north on a river for 150 miles,

Questions On The Theoretical Lens
Jesus F. Garcia 6/15/2015 Midterm Question 1 Part A Theoretical lens refers to a set of
assumptions made, that are composed of factors such as past experiences, cultural background,
and religion. This concept can be problematic when a society attempts to assume the way things
will be and turn out to be unexpected. Dennis Phillips explains, people often learn to understand
things based on the set of theories and belies with which they were raised. (Seminar 1, June 1) In
child development, theoretical lens of developing countries can ultimately hurt the way a society
views the progress of its future generations. Additionally, outcomes that are outside of the
theoretical lens are often rejected, which can cause distress to those individuals who are not
conforming to these expectations. Different countries have different assumptions about how the
world works and the role that each individual plays in it. These individuals, such as children,
across the globe have different expectations from society based on the region s theoretical lens.
For example the main issues facing young people in India will be the school versus work, the
tradition of early arranged marriages, the caste system, and the rights of women. (Gielen, 2004)
The expectations of Indian culture are completely different from those found in the United States
for young people. The culture difference is key in how new generations will develop in accordance
to societies expectations. A young person in

An Analysis Of Jack London s To Build A Fire
The 1860s 1890s were exceptionally eventful years in America. Containing the Civil war, migration
westward, and transition into the Gilded Age, this time period ushered in many changes in
American thinking. Among these is the transition from romantic literature to realistic literature.
Broadly defined as the faithful representation of reality or verisimilitude, realismis different from
romanticism in the fact that it focuses on reality and characters, rather than the exaggerated and

The literature chiefly reflects realism in its writing style and setting. The two combine as one to
achieve an indubitably realistic effect. As Peyton Farquhar the protagonist swims to shore, he
sees things that would be impossible for him to see. The setting is described with extreme
precision; however, few metaphors and similes are used. For example, as soon as Peyton
surfaces, he witnesses nature at its finest both aesthetically and in size. He looked at the forest
on the bank of the stream, saw the individual trees, the leaves and the veining of each leaf he saw
the very insects upon them: the locusts, the brilliant bodied flies, the gray spiders stretching their
webs from twig to twig. Furthermore, this acute imagery foreshadows his actual death there is no
way he could be seeing the things he is seeing, so he cannot be alive. Despite the pinpoint
accuracy of the imagery in the story, the events are plausible. While Farquhar surviving seems
unlikely, it is made realistic by the fact that he is, in reality, dead. Another unique aspect of this
story that adds to its reflection on American realism is its setting. The story is set in the South
during the Civil War, right after the realist movement kicked in. As a slave owner, Peyton Farquhar
is on the confederate side of the Civil War. Also, although there is not much dialogue in the

Intro: Ill. How an Eskimo kills a wolf. (He will repeatedly coat the blade in blood,
allowing it to freeze, until the blade is covered. Then, he will placethe knife in the
snow and as the wolf licks the blood, his tongue is numbed, and his hunger is fueled.
The wolf will lick the knife, cut his own tongue and eventaully bleed himself to death out
of his own lusts.) Satan uses the same tactic to defeat God s children. He knows that he can
never have your soul, but he also knows if he can cause us to succumb to temptation, then we
will become powerless and useless as Christians.
Salvation is not a barrier to temptation! On the contrary, Satan is more
likely to attack the Christian ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
B. To Overcome The Flesh We Need Flight The key to defeating fleshly
temptations is to flee from them. (Ill. 1 Cor. 6:18 flee fornication ; 1 Cor.
10:14 flee idolatry ; 2 Tim. 2:22 flee youthful lusts ) (Ill. You cannot
expose yourself to fleshly temptation and expect to walk away untouched
Pro. 6:27 Ill. Situations to avoid!) (Ill. Joseph and Potipher s wife Gen.
39:12)
C. To Overcome The World We Need Faith Faith that Jesuswill take care
of us when we willingly give up the attachment to worldly things. If we are
loving the world, we are not loving God 1 John 2:15; James 4:4. If you
really want victory over the world, then love Jesus more than you love it
Heb. 12:2. Ill. It is our faith in him that offers us the victory 1 John 5:4.
D. To Overcome The Devil We Must Fight If we stand up to him and fight,
he will flee James 4:7. Ill. You cannot run away from him, but you can
drive him away from you. You must face him in the power of the shed
blood of Jesus Christ. He doesn t fear you, but he trembles before the blood
of the Lamb! Fight Satan and he will flee! (Ill. Eph. 4:27; 1 Pet. 5:8)

Essay on Opium (Papaver somniferum)
Opium (Papaver somniferum)
The opium poppy has been used as a medicinal plant for centuries all over the world. The opium
poppy plant belongs to the Papaveraceae family. The scientific name of the opium poppy is
Papaver somniferum L., and it is native to Turkey. The plant has lobed leaves, milky sap and
four to six petaled flowers with several stamens surrounding the ovary. The two sepals drop off
when the petals unfold. The ovary then develops into a short, many seeded capsule that opens in
dry weather. The small seeds of the opium poppy plant are dispersed by wind. The plant has five
inch purple or white flowers on plants three to sixteen feet tall. It is and annual plant which needs to

There are manufactured alkaloid derivatives that include dihydromorphine, dihydrocodeine and
heroin. The alkaloids can be of two different types. One type acts on the nervous system and are
addictive to the human body. The other form is not addicting and instead relax muscle groups.
Papaver Somniferum has been used since Greek times to relieve suffering and euphoria. Records
indicate that the opium poppy has been used since the time of Mesopotamia (5000 to 4000 BC).
The records refer to the poppy and its use as opiates as medical tablets. Homer s writings indicate
Greek usage of the substance at least by 90OBC: Hippocrates made extensive use of medicinal
herbs including opium (see Britannica Online).
It is believed that the Romans probably learned of opium in the Mediterranean. Opium spread to
places all over the world. In China opium was reported as a problem during the seventeenth
century. Between World War I and H the cultivation of opium grew in Central America in the
mountains. Now the major producers and exporters of opium are Turkey and India (Britannica
Online).
Opium was definitely used in more recent times as well. Before the nineteenth century there were
few painkillers available. There were few alternatives to using opiates to end suffering for dying
people. Long ago opium was not considered harmful and was available to everyone. Doctors
advised taking opiates to relieve a number of symptoms

City of Thieves Chapter Summaries Chapter One Chapter One introduces us to Lev Beniov, the
seventeen year old commander of a firefighter brigade in the Kirov an apartment complex in the
besieged city of Leningrad during the winter of 1941. The initial pages focus on Lev s idealism and
naГЇvetГ© when he refuses to flee the city with his mother and his sister, Taisya. Ironically, the
supposedly safe city of Vyazma to which his mother and sister flee is taken by the Nazis in
October. Lev and the other members of the brigade Vera Osipovna, and the Antokolsky twins,
Grisha and Oleg spend the night of New Year s Eve 1941 eating an onion soaked in safflower oil

for being unable to handle a single night in the Crosses without panic and despair and goes so
far as to say he will never be a great Russian like his many idols who endured long prison
sentences. In Chapter Three, Lev thoroughly succumbs to his belief in his lack of courage. Benioff
sets up the existence of his secret knife at the end of Chapter Two, thereby hinting that it might be a
means of escape later on. The next time it is mentioned, however, Lev relinquishes it to the

A Short Note On The Salinity Crisis And Its Effects On The...
The Messinian Salinity Crisis, most commonly referred to as MSC, is considered to be one of
the most dramatic events to occur in the geology of the world in about twenty million years. The
Messinian Salinity Crisis is essentially when the Mediterranean Sea dried up completely. The sea
began to dry up approximately 6 million years ago and ended around 5.3 million years ago. Prior
to the drying of the sea, the sea level in the oceans had dropped about 70 meters because of global
cooling which led to the glaciers and icebergs. Because of this, the connection between the Atlantic
Oceanand Mediterranean Seahad become nonexistent and the Mediterranean could not depend on
the Atlantic for the source of water. With the Mediterranean Sea being... Show more content on

The two types of salts that were deposited on the floor were Halite and Gypsum. Some of the salt
deposits were as deep as 800 meters which is equivalent to 2,500 feet. The scientists were baffled
by this discovery, thus leading to numerous investigations about where these salt deposits came
from. Some of the scientists believe that environmental changes like the Mediterranean Salinity
Crisis, could quite possibly have a larger affect than what is assumed. Scientist believe that it could
having an impact on the global level.
The Mediterranean Salinity Crisis is said to have occurred in three stages. The first stage was
when the, evaporites precipitated in shallow sub basins. Basically, this is when natural salt build
us in the sub basin after the evaporation of a body of water. During the second stage, evaporite
precipitation is shifted to the deepest depocentres. Essentially all of the salts moved to the bottom
of the basin. This is what the oil drillers were drilling into when they discovered the large salt
deposits at the bottom of the Mediterranean Sea. The third stage is considered to be the large scale
environmental fluctuations in the Mediterranean transformed into brackish water lake. The idea
behind this stage is that it basically the erosion that occurred after all of the water was gone. This
erosion then led to the breaking of the barrier between the basin and the Atlantic Ocean. The

Theories of Marx
In this seminar, I seek to analyse, discuss and evaluate the theories of Marx. Firstly, I will analyse
the relationship between human action and social structure. Having completed the analysis, I will
move on further to discuss and exemplify his theory of alienation. Lastly I will evaluate his theory
of false consciousness.
Question 1
Human action and social structure are extremely prevalent in the works of Marx. In terms of the
workers and capitalist classes, he postulates that they are not free but rather actors of the capitalist
system. The workers are forced into labour to make a living, the force of circumstance (Elster,
1986:29) while the capitalist is forced to keep themselves in business. Elster (1986:29) argues that

He has thus become alienated from normality and has become an appendage of the machine.
In the movie, Daens we see the women and children working on the machines in the factory, not
able to communicate amongst themselves and in the case of the government coming to investigate
them, they weren t able to converse in French as they could only speak Flemish, thus further
enforcing the disconnection factor.
In order to become un alienated and work toward becoming the whole man where everyone is
part of one class, is able to support their family and their every need and has enough free time
and is still able to work as Marx wished in his efforts, the workers would have to take risks to get
out of their situation and keep trying to overthrow capitalism, as in the case of the movie, Daens
where we witness them taking the dead child out on to the streets. This risk however is quickly
averted by the capitalists as they have the means, the money and the knowledge to get their
workers back to work. They simply call in a favour from the local police and then fire all those
who marched. The instigator or initial risk taker (the woman who met Daens) is then punished
further with rape as a means of enforcing their domination over the working class.
Question 3
False consciousness is termed in the context of the work of Marx as a statement of our existence, it
is not our consciousness that determines our existence, but

How Did England Change During The Reign Of Henry Viii
How did England change during the reign of Henry VIII? The reign of the Tudors control over
England lasted a total of 118 years, starting with Henry VII in 1485 and finishing with the death
of Elizabeth I in 1603 who had no heir to the throne [1]. A lot of the change, to make or become
different[2], accounted for during this period was due to Henry VIII and his hard headed
approach to politics and religion and his passion to be remembered as a warrior and famous
king. Henry VIII is famous for having six wives, however in order to achieve this he had to
make colossal modifications to the countries religion and other aspects of life. Henry VIII and
his father Henry VII differed enormously, they had completely different personalities and aims
for their reign as King, Henry VII turned the country into a peaceful kingdom free from foreign
and domestic issues, however Henry VIII reverted this work and in doing so had spent most of
the money his father had left him with, whilst also reducing the overall income of the crown and
treasury. Henry VII To know how England changed during Henry VIII s reign we must first look
at what it was like before he gained control, when his father Henry VII was in power. Henry VII
had a weak claim to the throne from his mother Margaret Beaufont however the claim that Margaret
held was only legitimised on condition that no descendant ever use it, therefore Henry VII in fact
had no claim to the throne[3]. Henry VII claimed the throne after a victory

Thematic Essay On The Painted Bird
A thematic research paper on the novel of The Painted Bird by Jerzy Kosinski In Jerzy Kosinski s
novel, T he Painted Bird, marginalisation creates genocide, a crimeВridden second class, and vast
amounts of psychological torment. Jews were massacred during World War II causing the
young boy to flee from village after village to avoid being sent to a concentration camp. The
young boy s plea for safety lands him in various situations, many of which cause him to be
tortured and/or abused. Psychological torment from marginalisation causes the young boy to
believe God holds disdain toward those without blond hair and blue eyes, causing the young boy
to feel depressed. Marginalisation of society in World War II causes a genocide; this genocide
forces the young boy to flee from his home and make an endless journey in search of a place of
sanctuary. During World War II, Jews were sent to concentration camps and extermination camps
in an effort to promote their marginalisation and genocide; the young boy knew this reality and
fled from many villages to escape persecution. After causing mischief at his previous village, the
young boy decided to flee into the woods in search of a new home. I wandered for several days in
the woods and made attempts to approach the villages.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Analysis Of Upton Sinclair s The Grapes Of Wrath
Contemporary society deems social class a division within a given population defined by wealth,
education, and power, but the lines that divide them unceasingly deepen. Social mobility, or the
movement of an individual between the stratification of societal classes, remains virtually illusory,
an unattainable falsity that millions have laboriously fought for since the turn of the twentieth
century. Monopolies and wageslavery remain definite and palpable, both of which contribute to
immobility between social rankings, establishing an unbreakable cycle of poverty. The idyllic
ethos of the American Dream, a belief that one will achieve success through hard work and
opportunity, prove to be a fallacious, hollow and vague ambition that cannot be attained.
Paradigms that exploit the plight of the American worker beginning in the early nineteen
hundreds include muckraker Upton Sinclair s The Jungle and John Steinbeck s The Grapes of
Wrath. The quandaries that plague the characters of the aforementioned novels parallel that of
modern day exposГ©s, such as Class Matters, by Bill Keller, Nickel and Dimed, by Barbara
Ehrenreich, and Fast Food Nation, by Eric Schlosser, all of which harness and expose the
falsehood of The American Dream as a result of wage slavery, class separation, and monopolization
of major industries. The delineations that exist between the lower and upper class render the
American Dream an empty, intangible delusion, unattainable to those enslaved by low wages

Queen Gertrude in Shakespeare s Hamlet a Victim not Murderer
Gertrude never seems to get in the middle of Hamlet and Claudius disputes, so many tend to
assume that she is involved in King Hamlet s murder. However, there is an abundance of in text
evidence that suggests she is very innocent and oblivious to Claudius plots throughout the play.
Most of this evidence supporting that Gertrude has nothing to do with King Hamlets sudden death.
From the start, Gertrude comes off as a very clueless and almost blind character to the things
happening around her. She mourns for the death of the man she loved, but with her country in mind
does what she thinks is best. Sadly, while doing so, she involves herself in a dispute that turns
deadly. It is very obvious throughout the play that Queen Gertrude and... Show more content on

Instead of asking ridiculous questions and going haywire, like her new husband, Gertrude
simply comments on the acting by saying, ? The lady protests too much, methinks?
(Shakespeare 3.2.168). She even becomes baffled by Claudius? strange behavior when he
screams, ?Give me some light, away!? (Shakespeare 3.2.172). Gertrude clearly did now know
the plot line of the play before having seen it, therefore she could not have been involved in the
making of it earlier in the play. When problems with Ophilia and Hamlet arise, Claudius simply
sees this as another opportunity to quiet Hamlet. He encourages the relationship, hoping if
Hamlet is seeing Polonius? daughter, he wont speak out about his suspicions of Claudius.
Although, when Gertrude gets word of these news, she sees this as a completely different
opportunity. She, unlike her new husband, encourages the relationship in hopes that it will cheer
up her son and he will return to normal. She says to Ophilia, ?And for your part, Ophelia, I do
wish that your good beauties be the happy cause of Hamlet s wildness. So shall I hope your
virtues will bring him to his wonted way again, to both your honors? (Shakespeare 3.1.136).
Gertrude only thinks of her sons well being. In which case, if she had been involved in King
Hamlets murder, she would probably be more worried about not being caught instead of how to
make Hamlet happy again. If Gertrude was Claudius? partner in crime, one would assume that he
would let her in

Meal replacements are nutritionally balanced meals that help to reduce kilojoule intake, which
in the end helps with weight loss. Meal replacements are helpful as they come in all different
formulations, such as powders, shakes, bars and soups. In the end meal replacements all come
down to personal preference. Some benefits for meal replacements is that they are portioned
controlled, they are designed to be filling, quick and convenient and there is no hassle with
planning your meals as they choice has already been made for you. Some negative aspects of
meal replacements are they don t offer the same amount of nutritional benefits as whole foods,
they don t teach of how to eat a healthy and balanced diet, they can get very pricy, and they lack
in variety as they are always to same and feel and test very repetitive. A short term effect of
taking meal replacements is that can cause side effects such as people who suffer from kidney
and liver problems can gain gallstones because they lose weight too quickly. Meal replacements
are not suitable to use forever but studies show they are safe and as a long term effect they
become for effective on the body and help with more weight loss compared to other diets. In the
long run meal replacements can interfere with certain medications especially for people suffering
from diabetes as it can cause low blood sugar levels. Overall meal replacements are good for people
who need a quick fix

  • 3. Essay on The Death of Innocence in The Catcher in the Rye Holden identifies with, yearns for, and despises traits of the adult and child realms. In the novel The Catcher in the Rye, by J.D. Salinger, the protagonist, Holden Caulfield, fears becoming an adult who exhibits the characteristics that he holds complaints against. Throughout this Bildungsroman narrative, Holden searchesfor his identity. He tries to figure out his place either in the adult or child realm. Holden possesses a combination of fear and hatred for phonies . Holden uses this term to describe a wide range of people including shallow, superficial, fake, untruthful, or hypocritical individuals. Since he knows so many phonies he may feel that by joining the adult world, one must submit to a certain degree of phoniness , and he already has. Then I started shooting the old crap around a little bit... `your nose is bleeding, dear, ...`I got hit with a snowball...One of those very icy ones. . Clearly, the way phonies lie rubs off on Holden. Since Holden shows signs of a phony , and he hates phonies , he in a sense, hates himself. Holden knows he has lost his own innocence; now he realizes he possesses the ability to protect the innocence of other children. While narrating The Catcher in the Rye, Holden persistently uses the word phony to describe many adults. This entails that people lose their innocence when entering the adult realm. Holden experiences the corruption and cruelty of the adult world. The Combahee River Collective Our politics initially sprang from the shared belief that Black women are inherently valuable, that our liberation is a necessity not as an adjunct to somebody else s may because of our need as human persons for autonomy . The opening of the second part of The Combahee River Collective Statement, What We Believe, expresses one of the major will of the Third World Feminist studies: making Women a topic of research in its own rights. It s in 1977 that the Combahee River Collective, a US radical feminist lesbian group, wrote this very famous manifesto that became essential for the Black FeminismMouvement. They made as central the total recognition of the different forms of oppressions, sexual, racial, social, that black women endure and the necessity to fight against them. Therefore, the integration of notions of gender, sexuality, race, class in any feminist analysis that deals with power and domination become unavoidable. They express clearly the logical result of their struggle, the destruction of the political, social and economical system as they are the representative basis of an unfair and racist society. To bring a fresh way of looking at the position of some women in the American society turn to be a way to consider differently the organisation and the functioning of the actors of a society on a national and also international level. • 6. Essay on Drugs and Rock and Roll Drugs and Rock and Roll Beginning with the late 1960 s counterculture in San Francisco, music and drugs will forever be inter linked. Hippie bands such as the Grateful Dead, the Allman Brothers, and Phish are associated with marijuana, mushrooms, and LSD. Modern electronic rave , or club music is associated with MDMA or Ecstasy. When one thinks of rock and roll, sex and drugs immediately come to mind. While the use of drugs is not essential for the creation or performance of all new music, it was certainly in important factor for the counterculture music of the late 1960 s. While some of the most important and influential music was made with the help of psychoactive drugs, it was often to the detriment of the artist. Janis... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Psychedelics, and drugs in general became such an important part of life during the 60 s that it s influence was inescapable. Nowhere can this fact be seen more clearly than in the music of the time. The most obvious influence drugs had on music can bee seen in the lyrics. Drug references abound, be it Jimi Hendrix s Purple Haze of marijuana smoke, or the Beatles Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds , obviously referring to LSD. Even the names of the bands were drug inspired, as Garofalo points out in reference to the Doors: The group took it s name from Aldous Huxley s The Doors of Perception, a book about the liberating aspects of drug use. Even the music itself was influenced by drugs. Take for example much of the music by the Doors. Their song the End is a psychedelic journey in to the world of LSD. The slow beat and trippy music in the song was probably created with the use of drugs and hence is better appreciated when heard while on drugs. This is also true of the music of the Grateful Dead, although this can be much more clearly seen in their live performances as opposed to their studio work. Much of their music is geared specifically toward those in the audience who are on drugs. Hearing one of their 30 minute jams is a much different experience on drugs, and that is the experience that they intended the audience to have. While drugs were very much connected to the music of the sixties, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Solemn Soot and Social Despair In the Transformative World... Solemn Soot and Social Despair In the Transformative World of William Blake England was changing. The rolling green shires and inspiring scenery that was fixed in the earliest memories of the Romantic poets was quickly vanishing. There was a trade off happening. Rivets for rocks, chimney stacks for trees, locomotives for carriages and steal tracks for cobblestone. Piece by piece England s quaint agricultural backdrop was being replaced by a stern industrial one. Progress! Some shouted. The greater good! Others exclaimed. Expansion was becoming virtuous. In droves they came from the country to work in London s factories. The machines ruled the fields now. Farmers turned their plows in for hammers and the way peopled lived was never going to be the same. A new social class was developing in England. It was the working class. And although a wider segment of the population was producing, creating steam for the Empire, certain leading minds of the time had to examine the under belly of this fiery beast. In William Blake s poems The Chimney Sweeper and London he does just that. Through this examination Blake dwells on the theme of the loss of innocence. He writes these two works in a straight forward tone, almost like a social awareness pamphlet, urging the reader to wake up. And in typical Romantic fashion he does this through stark imagery. Specific Risks to Data on the Internet Commonly used tactics are prevalent on the internet; in fact, browser attacks have escalated exponentially towards internet users (Bugliesi, Calzavara, Focardi Khan, 2015). In fact, browser attacks looking for cookies present such grave danger that Bugliesi, Calzavara, Focardi Khan (2015) stated modern web browsers implement native protection mechanisms based on the HttpOnly and Secure flags to shield session cookies from unintended access by scripts injected into HTML code, as well as by sniffers tapping the client server link of an HTTP connection (p. 509). Yet another serious risk factor to internet use is browser attacks, which are insidious brute force attacks that savvy hackers will impose; consequently, consumers will oftentimes enter a password to confirm an order and verify the intent of an order (Jing Jang, Yi Chan Gen Yih, 2015). Antony must deal with the aftermath of Caesar s murder for his own sake and for his country s sake. Mark Antony s strong rhetoric and persuasive speech allow him to be an effective leader. Antony s language persuades the person who murdered his greatest ally, to have complete faith in him. Brutus speaks before Caesar s funeral and mentions that Caesar was ambitious. After Brutus speech, Antony makes an even better speech that refutes all of Brutus points. Antony states that Caesar could not be ambitious because Caesar brought home wealth to Rome, cried for the citizens, and that Caesar refused the crown three times. Antony cries after the speech, and tells that citizens that judgement, thou art fled to brutish beasts (Shakespeare 83). When Antony mentions this to the crowd, he causes the whole crowd to rethink their decision to follow Brutus. Antony uses his words to convey to the crowd that Brutus could not possibly be correct. Alfred Adler And His Theory Of Individual Psychology Alfred Adler and his theory of Individual Psychology Ann Bayron Freay American Military University History Systems of Psychology Julia Williams June 19, 2015 Introduction The discipline of psychology has made tremendous progress since the days of Freud and Adler. While much progress has been made in the practice of psychotherapy, most of the practices still resonate with the views of the pioneers and are often improvements of these early theorists. The concept of views the patient as a capable person with the will and ability to develop solutions to their problems is upheld in contemporary practice. There is also the belief that effective treatment is only possible if the solutions are placed in the context of the holistic life of the patient (Maniacci Johnson Migalski, 2013). While these notions seem common sense, they trace their roots to one of the fathers of psychology, Alfred Adler. In the 1967 film, Guess Who s Coming to Dinner, the main characters bring home controversy when they surprise their parents and friends with the news of their soon to be interracial marriage. According to the textbook, stereotyping is attributing a set of qualities to a person because of his or her membership to some category (Beebe, Beebe, Redmond, 2011, 74). Although these are two specific examples of stereotyping in the film, they are not the only instances. However, they are not pertinent to the purposes of this paper and will not be listed. Each of these instances of stereotyping cut off the chance of successful communication by letting the preconceived notions keep them from being open minded towards John. The Story of the Puppet Not even four feet tall the stocky, little man in patchy, homemade overalls was every bit of invisible behind the massive haunches of Tiny, the circus s eldest, and in his opinion, smelliest, African Elephant. Muttering obscenities beneath his breath, never missing a beat, Puppet shoveled heavy scoopfuls of dung off the boxcar s floor and into an old wheelbarrow, pausing only long enough to lean the shit stick against the wall before he grabbed the handles of the wheelbarrow, his dark complexion reddening from the weight, and headed out to ditch the stink someplace where it wouldn t be noticed until the circus was just a memory. He hated this work, hated how all the fancy pants, the trapeze artists, the animal trainers, even the side show freaks treated him as nothing more than a trained pet; existing only to clean up after them or serve them in whatever fashion they so desired. He was even forced to bed down with the tamer animals. He blamed the ringleader, Master Drachen, who since coming upon an abandoned toddler boy of color in the middle of Arkansas during the early forties had rescued him only to make him a perpetual slave and personal object of ridicule. When Puppet was young he d been grateful to Master Drachen, quietly obedient, but as the years wore on the insults piled up; the sound of laughter around the campfire, almost always directed at him, began echoing in his ears, their taunts making his eyes sting and his heart ache more than the frequent beatings ... • 33. Family and the General Systems Theory The word family can be defined in many ways. When I think of the word family, I think of two or more individuals who are sometimes related by blood or through a strong bond of unconditional love, as well as, a shared experience, values, responsibilities, the law, even related through a community. Different families view themselves in different ways. They have different roles, have certain boundaries or rules, communicate and solve problems in a different way, and can adjust to change differently. I will discuss my own familyand how I view my family through the lens of the General Systems theoryand apply each central property as it contains to my family and how we communicate. There are six significant properties within the General systems theory, wholeness, interdependence, boundaries and openness, hierarchies and subsystems, calibration and feedback, and lastly there is equifinality. I consider family to be two or more people. Everywhere I go I usually look at the family as a circle instead of seeing them each as an individual person. I look at a family as a circle because they all are bonded in some sort of way. Wholeness could be thought of as a circle, because a circle can be defined as one whole figure. Many times a family view themselves as one whole figure or wholeness. Wholeness is defined as the way the family view themselves. The family unit has a personality that is shaped by the combination of each members (Turner). No one can truly understand a family ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 37. Questions On The Theoretical Lens Jesus F. Garcia 6/15/2015 Midterm Question 1 Part A Theoretical lens refers to a set of assumptions made, that are composed of factors such as past experiences, cultural background, and religion. This concept can be problematic when a society attempts to assume the way things will be and turn out to be unexpected. Dennis Phillips explains, people often learn to understand things based on the set of theories and belies with which they were raised. (Seminar 1, June 1) In child development, theoretical lens of developing countries can ultimately hurt the way a society views the progress of its future generations. Additionally, outcomes that are outside of the theoretical lens are often rejected, which can cause distress to those individuals who are not conforming to these expectations. Different countries have different assumptions about how the world works and the role that each individual plays in it. These individuals, such as children, across the globe have different expectations from society based on the region s theoretical lens. For example the main issues facing young people in India will be the school versus work, the tradition of early arranged marriages, the caste system, and the rights of women. (Gielen, 2004) The expectations of Indian culture are completely different from those found in the United States for young people. The culture difference is key in how new generations will develop in accordance to societies expectations. A young person in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The literature chiefly reflects realism in its writing style and setting. The two combine as one to achieve an indubitably realistic effect. As Peyton Farquhar the protagonist swims to shore, he sees things that would be impossible for him to see. The setting is described with extreme precision; however, few metaphors and similes are used. For example, as soon as Peyton surfaces, he witnesses nature at its finest both aesthetically and in size. He looked at the forest on the bank of the stream, saw the individual trees, the leaves and the veining of each leaf he saw the very insects upon them: the locusts, the brilliant bodied flies, the gray spiders stretching their webs from twig to twig. Furthermore, this acute imagery foreshadows his actual death there is no way he could be seeing the things he is seeing, so he cannot be alive. Despite the pinpoint accuracy of the imagery in the story, the events are plausible. While Farquhar surviving seems unlikely, it is made realistic by the fact that he is, in reality, dead. Another unique aspect of this story that adds to its reflection on American realism is its setting. The story is set in the South during the Civil War, right after the realist movement kicked in. Some of the scientists believe that environmental changes like the Mediterranean Salinity Crisis, could quite possibly have a larger affect than what is assumed. The first stage was when the, evaporites precipitated in shallow sub basins. Basically, this is when natural salt build us in the sub basin after the evaporation of a body of water. During the second stage, evaporite precipitation is shifted to the deepest depocentres. Essentially all of the salts moved to the bottom of the basin. This is what the oil drillers were drilling into when they discovered the large salt deposits at the bottom of the Mediterranean Sea. Having completed the analysis, I will move on further to discuss and exemplify his theory of alienation. Lastly I will evaluate his theory of false consciousness. Question 1 Human action and social structure are extremely prevalent in the works of Marx. In terms of the workers and capitalist classes, he postulates that they are not free but rather actors of the capitalist system. In the movie, Daens we see the women and children working on the machines in the factory, not able to communicate amongst themselves and in the case of the government coming to investigate them, they weren t able to converse in French as they could only speak Flemish, thus further enforcing the disconnection factor. In order to become un alienated and work toward becoming the whole man where everyone is part of one class, is able to support their family and their every need and has enough free time and is still able to work as Marx wished in his efforts, the workers would have to take risks to get out of their situation and keep trying to overthrow capitalism, as in the case of the movie, Daens where we witness them taking the dead child out on to the streets. This risk however is quickly averted by the capitalists as they have the means, the money and the knowledge to get their workers back to work. They simply call in a favour from the local police and then fire all those who marched. The instigator or initial risk taker (the woman who met Daens) is then punished further with rape as a means of enforcing their domination over the working class. • 48. How Did England Change During The Reign Of Henry Viii How did England change during the reign of Henry VIII? The reign of the Tudors control over England lasted a total of 118 years, starting with Henry VII in 1485 and finishing with the death of Elizabeth I in 1603 who had no heir to the throne [1]. A lot of the change, to make or become different[2], accounted for during this period was due to Henry VIII and his hard headed approach to politics and religion and his passion to be remembered as a warrior and famous king. Henry VIII is famous for having six wives, however in order to achieve this he had to make colossal modifications to the countries religion and other aspects of life. Henry VIII and his father Henry VII differed enormously, they had completely different personalities and aims for their reign as King, Henry VII turned the country into a peaceful kingdom free from foreign and domestic issues, however Henry VIII reverted this work and in doing so had spent most of the money his father had left him with, whilst also reducing the overall income of the crown and treasury. Henry VII To know how England changed during Henry VIII s reign we must first look at what it was like before he gained control, when his father Henry VII was in power. • 50. Analysis Of Upton Sinclair s The Grapes Of Wrath Contemporary society deems social class a division within a given population defined by wealth, education, and power, but the lines that divide them unceasingly deepen. Social mobility, or the movement of an individual between the stratification of societal classes, remains virtually illusory, an unattainable falsity that millions have laboriously fought for since the turn of the twentieth century. Monopolies and wageslavery remain definite and palpable, both of which contribute to immobility between social rankings, establishing an unbreakable cycle of poverty. The idyllic ethos of the American Dream, a belief that one will achieve success through hard work and opportunity, prove to be a fallacious, hollow and vague ambition that cannot be attained. Paradigms that exploit the plight of the American worker beginning in the early nineteen hundreds include muckraker Upton Sinclair s The Jungle and John Steinbeck s The Grapes of Wrath. The quandaries that plague the characters of the aforementioned novels parallel that of modern day exposГ©s, such as Class Matters, by Bill Keller, Nickel and Dimed, by Barbara Ehrenreich, and Fast Food Nation, by Eric Schlosser, all of which harness and expose the falsehood of The American Dream as a result of wage slavery, class separation, and monopolization of major industries. The delineations that exist between the lower and upper class render the American Dream an empty, intangible delusion, unattainable to those enslaved by low wages ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 52. Queen Gertrude in Shakespeare s Hamlet a Victim not Murderer Gertrude never seems to get in the middle of Hamlet and Claudius disputes, so many tend to assume that she is involved in King Hamlet s murder. She even becomes baffled by Claudius? strange behavior when he screams, ?Give me some light, away!? (Shakespeare 3.2.172). Gertrude clearly did now know the plot line of the play before having seen it, therefore she could not have been involved in the making of it earlier in the play. When problems with Ophilia and Hamlet arise, Claudius simply sees this as another opportunity to quiet Hamlet. He encourages the relationship, hoping if Hamlet is seeing Polonius? daughter, he wont speak out about his suspicions of Claudius. Although, when Gertrude gets word of these news, she sees this as a completely different opportunity. She, unlike her new husband, encourages the relationship in hopes that it will cheer up her son and he will return to normal. She says to Ophilia, ?And for your part, Ophelia, I do wish that your good beauties be the happy cause of Hamlet s wildness. So shall I hope your virtues will bring him to his wonted way again, to both your honors? (Shakespeare 3.1.136). Gertrude only thinks of her sons well being. In which case, if she had been involved in King Hamlets murder, she would probably be more worried about not being caught instead of how to make Hamlet happy again. If Gertrude was Claudius? partner in crime, one would assume that he would let her in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
