Professor Sherry Turkle
The Flight from Conversation, by professor Sherry Turkle, addresses the issue of technology s pull
from conversation to simple connection. The essay s intriguing topic pulls the reader in, while the
author s excellent use of appeals solidifies her argument. Turkle s exceptional employment of appeals
strengthens the overall effect of her essay, leaving her audience with a strong argument. Turkle utilizes
her title and accolades to establish herself as a credible source. Professor Turkle also enhances her
argument by providing evidence and details from her studies to form a logical appeal. Finally, she tops
her argument off with an emotional connection to the audience by including the audience in her
argument, as well as by contributing specific ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Turkle persuades her audience by appealing to the emotional side of her audience. Throughout her
essay, Turkle refers to the audience as we or us , in doing so she intends to make her readers feel
included in her research and the argument. This strategy is an effective way to make the audience feel
that the author is specifically addressing them. The inclusion tactic employed compels the audience to
relate and agree with the author. Professor Turkle also utilizes specific anecdotes from her studies to
make her argument more relatable. By providing examples of other people s experiences to the
connection versus conversation argument, a reader is then able to associate themselves with that same
experience. In doing so, that same reader then forms an emotional connection to the anecdote, as well
as, to the argument. Professor Turkle employs one last emotional appeal at the very end of her essay.
Turkle challenges her audience to step away from the technological overload and come back to human
interaction, So I say, look up, look at one another, and let s start the conversation (Turkle). Professor
Turkle appeals to her audience s emotions and challenges them to act on their emotions and accept her
challenge to start the conversation. The emotional appeal in Turkle s argument effectively persuades
the audience to

Human Development Index to Measure Living Standards Within...
INTRODUCTION
Through the ages, economists worldwide have developed different measurements, statistics and
standards in order to have an anchor number on how to rate whether they be the development, their
perceived inequality among other variables within a country. Because of this, and on the endeavour to
unify the measurement of the current situation of a country, the United Nations via the United Nations
Development Program in 1990 developed and first published their Annual Human Development
Report featuring for the very first time in history the Human Development Index (Stanton, 2007).
According to the United Nations (UN), Human Development is the process by which society can
improve the living conditions of its citizens through ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Naturally the UN has addressed these claims and has improved the index within the years, but there is
always space for improvement.
The HDI had withstood several critics regarding the poor quality of the data used in the calculations,
regarding the selection of indicators and even on the calculations and the formulation itself;
nevertheless, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) rebutted some of those claims and
used others to improve the HDI calculations. (Stanton, 2007). The HDI, with or without flaws, has up
to some extent shaped the way we assess and compare countries. Thanks to the HDI, the development
is implied when talking about wellbeing instead of only looking at raw numerical information.
Hopefully in the future, the Index shall be improved even more, to finally have a definitive Index on
development worldwide.
In the year 2000, the UN established eight international development goals regarding: poverty,
education, gender equality, child mortality, maternal health, HIV and other diseases, environmental
sustainability and global partnership. (Nations, n.d.). For this paper, the HIV pandemic shall be
analysed. The Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) is the virus that serves as root for the acquired
immunodeficiency syndrome or AIDS which is a disease that compromises the human immune system
supressing it and leaving the body open for other diseases and

Summer Ball Summary
Summer Ball by Mike Lupica is a children s literature story of particular interest and young boys. It
follows a 13 year old boy named Danny Walker. Danny is a basketball player who is attending an elite
basketball camp called Right Way in Maine during the summer. Danny is a very good basketball
player but there is a small problem, he is really small. Now he is going to the camp to find out will his
lack of height prevent him from playing with the big boys.
Danny live in Middletown, Long Island with his parents, Richie and Ali Walker, who have recently
reconciled after a long separation. Danny, like his father before him, is a star basketball player whose
elite travel team won the national championship in their age group, largely behind the skills of Danny
and his friends Will and Ty. But Danny has a serious concern he is very short for his age and since his
father is also less than 5 10 tall, he is unlikely to grow to be as tall as he d like to be a better basketball
player. In the beginning, his height didn t hold him back, but in the past year other boys have been
getting taller and he is having trouble competing. He is also considerably shorter than his close friend,
Tess Hewitt, on whom he has a not so secret crush, but their relationship has cooled since she began
hanging out with a new boy who shares her interest in tennis.
As the summer following his 8th grade year begins, Danny s big concern is his upcoming trip to Right
Way. He knows he should be excited

Explain the Mechanism Behind the Money Multiplier. How Can...
This essay will explain and illustrates the key mechanism behind the money multiplier and explore
how monetary authorities can influence its size and affect the money supply in the economy. Firstly,
an introduction on money measure will be presented. Secondly, the mechanism behind money
multiplier will be presented by using equations to explain the cyclical changes in the multiple factor.
Thirdly, the examination of the money multiplier in the current economic climate will be put forward.
Fourthly, an explanation on the open market operation, discount window and the reserve ratio will be
presented to convey the influence in the size of money supply. Finally, this essay will conclude with
an overview of the essay.
According to Miller ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Therefore, the monetary base holds £180. Similarly, if another customer deposits £400, the bank
would have to reserve £80 and may convert the remaining £320 into loans or purchase government
securities (Howell Bain, 2008). Nevertheless, it should be noted that the change in the money
multiplier depends on the reserve requirement ratio and the public s willingness to deposit currency
(Vasudevan, 2003). For instance, when the depositor keeps less currency it will have an effect on
deposit as it will be multiplying more. In comparison, if the depositor holds more currency then less
multiple deposits will occur (Ireland, 2010).
Conversely, the banking system are required to keep a portion of the depositor funds for precautionary
circumstances and the rest may be converted in to loans, thereby increasing the available cash by a
factor that is a multiple of the initial deposit (Business Dictionary, 2010). For example, assume that
the money supply in the economy is £900 billion, the total deposits are £500 billion and the reserved
required is 12%.
The calculation for mm is the following:
In this example above, a £1 increase in Monetary Base/high powered money leads to a £2.20 increase
in Money supply. However, according to Vasudevan (2003) states the changes in reserve requirements
can be captured in the multiplier. The money multiplier tends to rise when

Grandma Viive Autobiography
Her story began in 1944, but has never been forgotten. By sharing her experience, she continues to
influence my life.
My grandma, born in Tallinn, Estonia, fled the Russian attack during WWII. Viive, age nine, Ilvi, her
four year old sister, and mother, Silvia, escaped on foot from the Russian occupation of their country.
Their family, broken apart, was forced to leave Karl behind, a devoted husband and father. He was
committed to protect Estonia, by fighting along side Hitler s German Army. My grandma Viive, Aunt
Ilvi, and their mother, known as Ema in Estonian, landed in Germany and were forced to live in
Displaced Persons Camps for seven years. Unsure of their future, they boarded a ship and sailed to the
United States of America. The three girls, along with other Estonians, had no choice but to begin a
new life far different than they had ever known. All three of the Baltic countries, Estonia, Latvia, and
Lithuania, lost their freedom and were annexed into the Eastern Block of the Soviet Socialist Republic
(U.S.S.R.). The people who remained suffered mass repression under Stalin s Soviet rule. As a result,
tens of thousands of Estonians experienced deportation or death. The ones able to escape, like my
grandma, were unable to return, or they would be killed as well.
As immigrants ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

well being, keeps me focused on my future goals. Its simple, my education comes first. Although
professional motocross is my dream, attending college, obtaining a degree and becoming a mechanical

The Expansive First Movement From Schubert s Rosamunde
The expansive first movement from Schubert s Rosamunde quartet is an odyssey in which the
principal melody, first heard in A minor, sets out on an epic quest for the attainment of A major. Laid
out in a straight forward Sonata Form, the Primary theme appears as a triple period, with the last of the
three phrases being in A major. The violent cadence in m. 32 dramatically switches the mode back into
a menacing A minor, completely forfeiting the three tries in which the Primary theme so yearningly
made to establish itself in A major. In looking through the movement, not only are there an abundance
of sudden and violent cadences, but sudden and violent cadences that abruptly alter the direction in
which the movement was seemingly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
33, and make their final appearance in m. 270 as a pick up gesture to the closing material of the
Recapitulation before the Coda. Otherwise, this triplet figure features strongly in the more flurried
parts of the movement, namely in the transitional material of the Primary theme and the transitional
material of the Secondary theme. They are conspicuously missing from areas of relative passivity,
such as the main thematic areas of both the Primary and Secondary themes. Enigmatically, the triplet
figure does not feature in the Development. It is possible to see that this triplet figure features most
prominently in areas that are highly unstable. Beginning right after the cataclysmic A minor chord in
m. 32, the triplet figure first appears in m. 33 as just a tail of the cadence, as if it were turbulence
caused by the suddenness of the cadence. It appears again shortly after another strong cadence in D
minor (down one step in the circle of fifths), again as an after thought. The triplet figure returns again,
this time with full force and intention in m. 44, acting as both the motor rhythmic element as well as a
linear underpinning in a sequence of the descending circle of fifths. The figure disappears in m. 56
into eighth notes through rhythmic augmentation, just as the the movement reaches the Medial
Caesura. The triplet figure is then absent for the next ten measures, where an antecedent consequent
structure forms

Essay on How Humanism Transformed Individuals Role
Throughout time an individual s role in which he fits into society has changed. One of the most
noticeable changes in an individual s role in society occurred during the Italian Renaissance during the
14th and 15th centuries with the introduction of Humanism. Humanism gave birth to the concept of
individuality a notion which is still alive today. It said that humans mattered and that now mattered,
that one should not be part of a whole but rather someone that is unique. Before Humanism people
only thought of the after life, of whether they were going to heaven or hell, but with the introduction
of Humanism people became more involved in the present, rather then just thinking of what happened
after you died. Humanism transformed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They were also encouraged to study ancient societies such as the Greeks and the Romans, believing
this was the remedy for the present society. Humanism also encouraged people to help their society by
combining the talents. An example of that can be found in Florence where three humanists served as
chancellors of the city. Coluccio Salutati, Leonardo Bruni, and Poggio Bracciolini used rhetorical
skills to encourage Florentines to revolt against the aggression of Naples and Milan. Both Bruni and
Poggio wrote flattering histories of the city. Leon Battista Alberti, another accomplished humanist
scholar, was a noted Florentine architect and builder. They were encouraged to combine their skills in
history, art, and literature in their every day lives. This made them see the world with a different
perspective, which made them into the individuals they aspired to be. Another change that occurred
during the Italian Renaissance was the artistic perspective of this world. People were no longer
painting two dimensional art, and non logical portraits. A new technique, chiaroscuros a technique that
involved light and shadows, gave their paintings more depth and a realistic imagery. They also made
their paintings more realistic by making the objects relative to one another. They emphasised emotions
and belief in a universe full of harmony. By encouraging

Mass Media in General and Newspapers
PART A: INTRODUCTION 1. Rationale Mass media in general and newspapers in particular
nowadays play a very important role in our lives. Many people even say that living in the world
without newspapers is like living in an isolated island. Newspapers help us become informed citizens
and make better decision by providing a lot of facts. Hard news stories, vital statistics, weather, sports
stories and scores and even calendars are examples of items that help inform readers. Some newspaper
articles help interpret or explain the meaning of news to readers. Besides, newspapers provide services

problems. Moreover, some items in newspapers are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The third part (Part C) is the conclusion which presents the results of the study with suggestions for
translators and for further researches. PART B: DEVELOPMENT Chapter I: Theoretical Background
1. Newspaper headlines 1.1. What is newspaper headline? Conventionally, it is believed that
newspapers have more readers than any other kind of written text. According to Van Dijk (1986), for
most citizens, news is perhaps the type of written discourse with which they are confronted most
frequently (p. 156). In the newspaper it is the headline that has the highest readership. It summarizes
the content of a story, and entices an audience into reading the article. According to Ungerer (2000), a
headline describes the essence of a complicated news story in a few words. It informs quickly and
accurately and arouses the reader s curiosity (p. 48). Newspaper headlines are particularly important
for the way readers comprehend a news text, they are markers that monitor attention, perception and
the reading process (Van Dijk, 1988). According to Danuta R. (1998), headline is a unique type of
text. It has a range of functions that specifically dictate its shape, content, and structure and it operates
within a range of restrictions that limited the freedom of the writer. In other words, headline should

Production Of A Product Line
Abstract Everything that needs to be manufactured requires a precise Bill of Materials (BoM) which
described exactly what specific items, components or parts composed the products that has been
specified / ordered. For complex configured products, such as mass produced passenger cars, the
vehicle that is ordered by the client is configured to his / her requirements on the basis of an all
possible option in a configurable BoM i.e. the 150% BoM from which all possible configured BoM
variants or the 100% BoMs can be created. The 150% BoM is just another name for a variant
structure, or more specifically, a configurable BoM which contains the art of the possible of a product
line. A variant BoM contains more parts and assemblies than actually needed to assemble the (final)
product the 150% of the parts. In Manufacturing terms, variant BoMs can be used specifically for
Assembled To Order or ETO (Engineered To Order). Variant management helps to find the best
combination of standard components and custom components which balances customer s product
requirements and product costs. This paper will give information on the process towards creating
integrating the variants within the PLM for WARMAN and ISOGATE brand products. In the Engineer
to order (ETO) products and equipment industry, Manufacturers build products designed to specific
requirements. The challenges faced by the manufacturer s sales team while handling customer
requirements

The Explosion Of Columbia University s Lamont Doherty...
At 10:27 am the streets of Newcastle became filled with thousands of devastated people as they
spilled onto the streets as buildings began to crumble around them.
The shock measured 5.6 on the Richter magnitude scale, in seconds it turned a two story building into
a disaster zone.
Rescue services such as VRA, Newcastle ambulance and fire departments and SES acted quickly
trying to free people trapped under buildings. As a result of the earthquake 13 people were confirmed
dead, more than 160 people were injured and left damage worth 3.5 billion U.S. dollars. Many of the
city s historical buildings were decimated along with 35,000 homes damaged, resulting in 1000
displaced people.
According to a study conducted Christian D. Klose of Columbia University s Lamont Doherty Earth
Observatory in Palisades, New York, the quake was triggered by changes in tectonic forces caused by
200 years of underground coal mining. But even more significant was groundwater pumping needed
to keep the mines from flooding. For each ton of coal produced, 4.3 times more water was extracted.
The mass removal of coal and water caused an unload of the entire continental crust. In the case of
mining, an unload is the reduction of weight in a certain area, e.g., black coal and water in a colliery.
If it has enough time, the tectonic plate reacts to this unload by forming a small deformation. If it does
not have enough time because the rate of mass removal is too high, a fault zone can be reactivated

Walgreens Research Paper
In this essay, I will be explaining about the history of Walgreens and what it has to offer to its
customer. This will include the services and merchandise that has made them a successful company
for over one hundred years. My mission for writing this essay, is to give the reader some more insight
on what they may of not know about this nation wide store. I also want to provide the reader with
confidence to rely on Walgreens as their number one trusted pharmacy and drugstore.
The idea of Walgreens started off in the early 1900 s in a small town called Dixon, Illinois. Charles R.
Walgreen started working at a drug store, due to an accident that happened at a shoe making company,
ending his athletic career. He realized after working in this small town he needed to go somewhere

Restaurant Scene Analysis
870532731 Essay 1 1. In order to clearly understand the bigger picture of why the restaurant scene
was not very diverse, I had to look back in history to not so long ago when times were very different.
Studying historical particularism allowed me to do so and therefore further my understanding of what
the underlying problems may be. Historically, the town was not very accepting of social diversity and
therefore the citizens are acting similarly to how they were raised and implementing their recursive
actions. This plays a big part on the social constructionism in the area which explains how certain
restaurants were perceived. An example of this from the article was the 40 60 rule in which no more

The year of 2015 was very significant for certain individuals, but it was a year that affected all
Americans in some way or another. This was the year that Gay marriage became legal in all fifty
states. Prior to this monumental action by the Supreme Court, there was not a wide acceptance of gay
marriage within certain parts of America. Since then, not only have people been more accepting
towards gay marriage, but people are taking it a step further and examining gay rights as a whole. This
includes rights such as parental rights. The New York Times covered a story in which a gay couple
adopted a baby with intensions to raise him together. After breaking up, the biological mother
attempted to deny the other mother the right to raise their son. The Supreme Court ruled that it would
be inconsistent to deny a gay couple the same rights as a straight couple in regards to parental care. In
the recent history of the United States, the historical particularism suggests it would have been thought
nearly impossible for a gay couple to be allowed to legally marry each other let alone have and raise a
family. The ideology of communities within the United States shifted from absolutely not allowing
gay right to anyone, to giving them the same rights as straight people. The reconfiguration of this idea
stems from the change in social and cultural constructionism. Symbols are constantly evolving and
representing a new meaning which is how social change happens. The symbols associated

The Theory Of The Drive Theory
Drive Theory The Drive theory was so named by Freud because of its emphasis on libidinal and
aggressive drives, which Freud considers to be the two principal motivating forces of human behavior,
and which barks for attention and expression. A child at birth is in a state of primary narcissism, and it
clamors to have its needs met irrespective of the comforts of others. The erogenous zones (mouth,
anus and genitals) are the avenues through which the energies are directed, and by stimulating these
areas, the child finds pleasure. If energies are not adequately released, anxiety results, but as the child
develops, it learns to regulate such forces for its ultimate good and that of others. Freud believes that
three components of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If human beings functioned solely from the Id s control center, there would be absolute chaos, since
people will do whatever they wish, whenever they wish, and wherever they wish, irrespective of
consequences. The Ego lives in both the conscious and the unconscious mind, and it represent the I of
the individual. The Ego functions like a good citizen, and acts as an intermediary between the Id, the
superego, and the external environment, to procure socially acceptable behavior. The ego coordinates
volition, and its main business is to protect self. It also regulates and suppresses the inordinate
promptings of the Id through reasoning and compromises, and is capable of delaying gratification for
the future. As maturation ensues, the ego expands, while the id shrinks, except in special cases where
the individual is fixated at the infantile level. Conditioned on the examination that people with strong
egos often have weak ids and superegos, Freud concludes that the relative distribution of energy
among these forces affects personality directly. Top of Form Bottom of Form The superego is the
conscience that grows out of parental prohibitions, and it represents the moral component of the
personality. Through the diminution of early narcissism, when the child begins to acknowledge its
limits, the superego imposes itself as a kind of watchdog over the ego, making sure that the

Mallard s Demise
Louise Mallard s Demise in The Story of an Hour by Kate Chopin Kate Chopin s short story, The
Story of an Hour , is about a woman, named Louise Mallard, in the late 1800s who is told that her
husband, Brently, has died in a railroad accident. Initially, Louise is surprised, distressed, and drowned
in sorrow. After mourning the loss, the woman realizes that she is finally free and independent, and
that the only person she has to live for is herself. She becomes overwhelmed with joy about her new
discovery of freedom, and dreams of all of the wonderful events in life that lie ahead of her. Louise s
sister finally convinces her to leave her room and come back into reality. While Louise is walking

Either way, it can be interpreted that the couple never saw each other before Louise died. Therefore,
Louise Mallard may have simply passed away from a heart that was exhausted from her strong initial
grief of losing her husband and her new adventurous excitement from gaining freedom (Cunningham
3). The unique ending of The Story of an Hour also contains some irony. During the 1800s, which is
the time period that Chopin wrote this short story, men held more respect than women in society, and
women were expected to be dependent upon a husband. A critic, Emily Toth, states that Chopin may
have included Louise s death at the end of the story to please authors and editors because presenting
that a woman may be able to happily live without a husband in the 1890s would be a fanatic idea
(Cunningham 4). The multitude of conservative readers in the 1890s could interpret that Louise passed
away because she was too independent, but the actual meaning of the death may have very well been
because of Louise s joy from finally being dismissed from her husband s control. By using irony,
Chopin was able to both please the critics of her time period, and prove a hidden point that women can
find joy without a man. Over all, in The Story of an Hour , Kate Chopin leaves the meaning

The Suez War or Crisis of 1956
The Suez War or Crisis of 1956 was a geopolitical conflict between Egypt with Israel, Great Britain,
and France. Just War theory will be used to assess the just qualities of the British s involvement in the
war. Great Britain s role in the war does not fit within any of the categories of being a just war in
either jus ad bellum or in jus in bello. A just war can be justified if it brings peace to a region however;
in this case, the Suez War was fought to retain the British s colonial powers among other reasons.
The Suez war began in 1956 when the President Gamal Abdel Nasser nationalized the Suez Canal.
Due to the canal s great importance to the British and they colluded with Israel and France to regain
control of the canal. The Suez Canal was especially important to the British because it connected the
Mediterranean and the Indian Ocean through the Red Sea. (Milner) This strategic location allowed
them to trade and move across the world giving them control of their colonies. However, on July 26,
1956 President Nasser decided to nationalize the Suez Canal due to his anger at the British for
withdrawing their loan offer to Egypt. (Milner) Consequently, the nationalization of the canal was a
strategic move to lessen the British s economic and political control of Egypt, which had lasted since
1882. Many Egyptians were unhappy with British s occupation of their country so Nasser s policies
were popular in the Middle East. This was because the expression of national

The Mother-Daughter Relationship in Stand Here Ironing Essay
The Mother Daughter Relationship in Stand Here Ironing To many people, the ideal mother daughter
relationship is not like the one we find in this short story. In this case, however, its not being an ideal
relationship is not the fault of the mother or daughter. Through her own relative thoughts, the mother
illustrates the circumstances of the relationship that evolved with her daughter. Despite the mother s
self incriminating thoughts, the dents in the mold of their mother daughter relationship were made by
the tough circumstances in their lives. From the beginning we hear the mother s self inculpating
thoughts of all she did or did not do. Emily is born into an unfortunate surrounding and, at the early

dent in their own relationship by her being away from Emily so much. At another crucial stage in
Emily s life, when the second baby is born, she is kept away from both her mother and the new baby.
With the obvious immense attention that is required to the newborn, it is important for Emily to be
reassured of her mothers love to prevent feelings of replacement and jealousy. This time the separation
of mother and daughter is caused by the measles, an occurrence in life that no one can prevent. Still,
the mother torments herself on the thoughts that she only went to sit with Emily twice. Granted that
twice was not very much, the more she came in contact with Emily, the greater risk of endangering the
life of Emily s sibling. Here is when Emily begins to slowly adjust to the absence of her mothers
physical affection. When Emily is sent away to a convalescent home in the country so she can have
the kind of food and care(154) her mother cannot provide for her, her adjustment to the absence of
physical warmth from her mother is finalized.

Groundwater and the Hydrologic Cycle Essay
Groundwater and the Hydrologic Cycle
Introduction
Water is the lifeblood of every living creature on earth. Approximately 70 percent of the earth s
surface is covered with water. Thought the wonders of nature, water can take on many different forms,
form the water we drink, to the ice we use to chill a glass of lemonade, to the water vapor used to
steam clean equipment equipment. It is easy to understand the significance water plays in our lives,
but it may be much more difficult ot understand the water that exists below the earth s surface, called
groundwater.

The unsaturated zones are soil and geologic materials located between the land surface and the
saturated zone. The voids are filled with a combination of air and water. Water in this zone is often
refereed to as soil moisture. Below the unsaturated zone is the water table. The water table is the level
in the geologic formation below which all voids or cracks are saturated. The water table also can be
thought of as the upper surface of the groundwater and top of the saturated zone for an unconfined
aquifer. The entire region below the water table is called the saturated zone. In the saturated zones, all
voids are filled with water and no air is present. The water in the saturated zone is call groundwater.
The distance water has to travel to reach groundwater can range from a few feet to hundreds of feet.
Water movement toward groundwater may take hours or years, depending on the depth to the aquifer
and the characteristics of the unsaturated zone.
Once in the groundwater, water may move into surface waters such as lakes or streams. Groundwater
moves slowly within the groundwater aquifer, often remaining in storage for long periods of time.

Canadian troops were tasked to capture the important Vimy Ridge. The Canadian Army bombarded
the German positions with countless artilleries and it became a week of suffering for the Germans.
This artillery bombardment had helped Canada develop a successful way to defeat Germany. As a
result, Germans faced devastating effects, due to the constant firing by the Canadians. The German
soldiers had little chance to succeed against the artillery as transportation and communications were

The focus of the painting is based on the two soldiers passing the shell to each other and then into to
the artillery to shoot against the German army. The gesture of working together in harsh realities
carries the message of unity and self sacrifice for the war. One soldier does not have his uniform on
meaning no protective gear that characterizes unselfishness in the center of a great battle.
Furthermore, there is a soldier, who has an injury on his hand, yet still continuing to fight. The wound
shows contribution in the face of danger and heroism marked by the bandaged arm on his return to the
conflict. It sets an example of selflessness and bravery and the artist shows that in war, sacrifice can be
represented by their schedule of duty.

Explore the change in style of jazz bass since the introduction of electric bass (bass guitar)
Modern 4 string, fretted, horizontally played electric bass was first introduced by Paul Tutmarc in the
1930s. Later in 1950s Leo Fender developed this idea so it could be mass produced and finally
introducing the Fender Precision bass in 1951. Electric bass then started to coexist with the double

Les Miserables In Victor Hugo
TITLE: The Life of Victor Hugo in his Novel Les Miserables
INTRODUCTION:
What are the personal experiences of Hugo in the French Revolution that inspired him to write Les
Miserables? How do his beliefs affect his work Les Miserables? Do you also believe that good always
triumph over evil? Victor Hugo was a keen poet, novelist, dramatist, essayist, pamphleteer, diarist,
politician and moralist of French romance. In 1862 Hugo published his masterwork Les Miserables,
which gained an international success. His novel is used to condemn the unjust class base structure of
nineteenth century France. Hugo personified the threefold problem of the century he had seen during
the French Revolution through his novel Les Miserables .

is set in an artificially created human hell that emphasizes the threefold problem of the century. Each

and Cosette represents the destruction of children. The revolutionists coincide with Hugo s goal which
are the liberte, egalite, and fraternite. Through Les Miserable Hugo s belief that good always triumph

Persuasive Essay On Bottled Water
Today water bottles are marketed all over the world, and about 1,000 bottles are consumed every
second. In fact, it has been reported that 200 billion water bottles are sold globally collecting 60
billion dollars. Additionally, bottled water was created for being portable, because of ordinary tap
water quality, safety and health concerns, and as a substitute for sugary drinks. In contrast, bottled
water shouldn t be around anymore because they have become a health and environmental issue.
Water bottles have been proven to be hazardous to human health due to the large number of chemicals
found in them. Most of the bottles are not biodegradable, which damages the environment. Despite
them being portable, alternative to tap water, and a substitute for sugary drinks bottled water shouldn t
be used anymore because they are hazardous to the environment, human and animal life.
It is ironic that water bottles were brought up for safer and purer water, but retains an exceedingly
number of chemicals. In the U.S, there are an abundance of organizations that deem what are harmless
for humans to consume. The Federal Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulate bottled water,
however tap water is overseen by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), which has higher
standards than the FDA meaning some bottles aren t even approved to rinse your hands with. More
importantly, bottled waters contain contaminates, chemical contaminates, pesticides, disinfectants, and
radioactive materials. Equally important, bottled water has contaminants of Coliform (rod shaped
bacteria), Arsenic (poison), Chloride (a compound of chlorine), Iron, Manganese (resembles iron and
is used in fertilizer), phenols (Poisonous acidic compounds), Zinc, and Fluoride (deliberately added to
some bottled water). Not to mention the most popular chemical BPA, the chemical applied to form the
plastic solid and transparent. Some water bottles contain about 15 milligrams of chemical
contaminants from 10 different chemicals. The FDA did not band pesticides from the bottled water,
but they arrayed the levels and limits for each of 29 different pesticides. As well as disinfection
byproducts, a chemical compound formed by the reaction of a water disinfectant with a

Example Of The Jim Crow Laws
The Jim Crow Laws are a series of laws that enforce segregation and inequality toward the African
American race. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., an African American Civil Rights leader, decided to lead a
peaceful protest in Atlanta, Georgia due the amount of racial injustice he saw there. However, because
he did not get a permit to protest he was imprisoned. While in jail, he received a letter from the Atlanta
clergymen imploring, him to stop all objection. In response to their letter he wrote back to the Atlanta
clergymen. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. s response letter to the Atlanta clergymen shows a classic
application of the Aristotelian method of persuasion by using ethos, pathos, and logos.
Dr. King refers to the Southern Christian leadership Conference and various Christian prophets to
show his credibility. The internationalist claims he has reason to be in Atlanta by stating, I have the

The Leadership Position Of Youth Pastor
There has been a considerable growth in what I now know about what it takes to be in the leadership
position of Youth Pastor. There are several learnings I had from this book: one of them was the
reminder of the insightfulness of youth. As Dean states, Youth have an acute ability to sniff out
hypocrisy and to name injustice. Through her words on this and through discussion in class I have
realized why it is so important to be genuine through everything you do. Youth tend to not only see but
also imitate behavior they witness. This is the critical time for youth in identifying who they are and
therefore what they witness can be a big part of who they become. Dean address this in the first
chapter: James W. Fowler has described the adolescent thought process in terms of the couplet, I see
you seeing me, I construct the me I think you see. It is important to not only provide an example of
who Christ calls us to be, but to allow them to see the example that they may never see at home.
I really liked how she identified the three major barriers to god bearing youth ministry. I found it
beneficial that she signaled these out so that a person can be aware and ready if they start to fall into
one of these categories. I can already notice how I might fit into these three categories of being a fixer,
controller, or of having the need to be liked. Knowing these before I actually start in ministry is
already helping me in addressing the issue. I can already see how I would be a

Bruce Dawe Poetry
Bruce Dawe Poetry
Many of Bruce Dawe s poems have a heavy message and a bleak meaning relating to society s
weaknesses and downfalls.
Enter without so much as knocking is a poem that is critical of consumerism in the modern world. The
poem itself is a story of one man s life, from birth till death and is a satirical look at modern society
and its materialism. The poem begins with the Latin line Memento, homo, qui, pulvis es, et in
pulverem reverteris. This means in English Remember you are dust and dust you will return . This is
the central idea of the poem; no matter how many materialistic items we acquire and consume, in the
end, we all end up at the same place. The poem then follows by speaking of a baby waking into life, ...

Although a completely different subject, Homecoming is in ways similar to enter without so much as
knocking . Both facing realistic views on life and the issues that are facing society, Bruce Dawes
poems convey what he, and others, has wanted to say.
Homecoming is an elegy and anti war poem written about the Vietnam War. The poem starts off in
what seems to be a monotone, with many simple verbs such as picking... bringing.... rolling ...

follow the same routine and being treated in a somewhat seemingly cold and offhanded way. Unlike

enhance the effect of imprinting a strong image within the reader s imagination, forcing the reader into
feeling this great injustice for these soldiers who have sacrificed their lives for their country, within
the war.

Correlation Between Earnings And Share Prices Essay
Question 1
The diagram illustrates the studies by Beaver, Clarke and Wright (1979) and Foster, Olsen and Shevlin
(1984). The studies are based on the Ball Brown study regarding the relationship between earnings
and share prices. This diagram shows that the size and sign of unexpected Earnings per Share (EPS) is
related to the sign and size of cumulative Abnormal Return (AR).
The graph represents the portfolio in ranking order based on the forecast error and EPS. There are 10
portfolios in which the first portfolio has the most negative forecast error and EPS while the tenth
portfolio has the most positive forecast error and EPS. This means that Portfolio 1 is the worst
performing firm in regarding the earnings (most negative share price reaction) while Portfolio 10 is
the best performing firm (most positive share price reaction). Based on the fourth and fifth portfolio,
the share reaction is very small. The negative abnormal return in portfolio 4 is pretty much negligible
and the same can be said in portfolio 5 where there is only a slight positive share price reaction. This
is due to the fact that the information is not too much of a surprise for the shareholders to react hugely.
Therefore, it can be said that from portfolio 1 to 4, they are the bad news firms while portfolio 5 to 10
are the good news firms.
In conclusion, the hypothesis made by the studies is proven to be correct. The firm with the most
negative forecast error and EPS has the most negative AR and

Literature Review On Social Movements
II. LITERATURE REVIEW Social movements (SMs) have been part of society s history and politics
for centuries. For some authors, they started with the French Revolution and have been constantly
rising and falling depending on the existent socio political climate (Reichmann Fernandez Buey,
1994). For Charles Tilly, the nineteenth laid the groundwork for the modern social movements of the
twentieth century (Tilly, 1998). Karl Marx also studied and developed the concept of SMs; he viewed
them as a means of achieving a deep social change through class conflict (Tarrow, 2011). Studied in
relationship to the rise of globalisation and social media, the expansion and modernisation of SMs has
become increasingly prominent in the academic literature of the last century. Accordingly,
Globalisation has made it possible for individuals to empower themselves through participation in
supranational organisations and international organisms that challenge governmental authority. As
evidenced by Manuel Castells, populations around the world are now able to come together to affect
change by expressing ideas and demonstrating in support of pressing issues (Castells, 2009). Chile has
been no exception to the trend of globalisation and has participated in and developed a number of
strong international social movements. The academic literature on social movements is vast. Since
there are many types of SMs that focus on different aspects of human life (economic, social, political

gay, and Zack (Ludi Lin) the bad boy, all seem to be up some shenanigans. Things quickly take a turn
when they hear an explosion and realize that it was Billy who causes it (apparently he brought some
dynamite with him). Amongst the rubble, the team discovers some power coins, and some new found
super powers. Little do they know that they set in motion events that will lead to them coming face to
face with the projection of an alien named Zordon (Bryan Cranston), a robot named Alpha 5 (Bill
Hader), and a gold driven villain named Rita ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first time the Zords are all in a formation, we hear the old Power Rangers Theme.
While I was certainly skeptical at first, Elizabeth Banks made a fairly decent villain in the film. She
certainly made use of every inch of her costume to help accentuate how evil she was on screen. Those
long gold fingernails looked equal parts painful and like something you would see at the mall.

Essay on Hamlet and Tragedy
Hamlet and Tragedy
Hamlet: A Tragedy When you think of William Shakespeare, Hamlet is the first thing most people
think of, as his work. Hamlet is also a classic example of a tragedy. In all tragedies the hero suffers,
and usually dies at the end. All good pieces of literature written way back when, are usually tragedies.
The most important element is the amount of free will the character has. In every tragedy, the
character must display free will. If every action is controlled by a hero s destiny, then the hero s death
can t be avoided, and in a tragedy the sad part is that it could. Hamlet s death could have been avoided
many times. Hamlet had many ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The tragic hero must possess many good traits, as well as one flaw, which eventually leads to his
downfall. A tragic hero must be brave and noble. Hamlet is the perfect example of the tragic hero.
Hamlet has all the good traits needed to be a tragic hero. He is brave and daring. One example of this
is that when he went to England, he was taking a big risk and knew they were out to kill him. His
loyalty to his father, was the reason he was so angry with Claudius and his Mother. Eric Bentley said
that a Tragedy is dependent on comedy. Comic relief is used in tragedies to change the atmosphere of
the reader, who is constantly focusing on the death and corruption of a tragedy. If a play were full of
the death and sorrow, as in tragedies, it would make the reader very depressed and not like the play.
Some examples of this in Hamlet, are in the Gravedigger Scene, Talking to the Skull and the Throwing
of the book.
Towards the end of the play, there are two scenes in the graveyard. One is when Hamlet picks up a
skull, and the gravedigger tells him that the skull belonged to Yorick, the old king s jester. Hamlet tells
Horatio that he knew Yorick, and then realizes what we all become after we die, dust. He then plays
with the idea of life and death, and describes the finality of it. The gravedigger scene is the tragic
conclusion of the play. The second scene of comedy in this scene is when the gravediggers argue
whether Ophelia should be allowed to be

Evaluating Credibility And Its Impact On The Society Of...
Introduction
When a person reads a source for information the reader wants that information to be reliable so they
could trust the source meaning the reader needs their information source to be credible. Credibility is
important because everyone on the planet could write on a topic, but that does not mean that what they
wrote is true and should be believed in. People who write more often than not have an agenda. To
make the reader feel a certain way or to make them believe in what the author told them too.
Evaluating credibility means looking into the author and their agenda, the publisher to see where the
information comes from, evidence of bias, uses of sources to support their information, verifiability to
see if it still holds context, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Objective Summaries Source Credibility Analysis
The article Rehabilitate or punish? written by Etienne Benson on apa.org the website of the American
Psychological Association provides insight on the topic of the concept of rehabilitating prisoners
especially the mentally ill or to continue following the get tough on crime method. The article also
factors in how psychology can better help even non mentally ill prisoners to better be able to transition
into citizen life without re imprisonment than go hard core on the prisoners to prove a point. Rating
the article while evaluating on a six point scale. I gave the article a score of (). In the category of
author, I give the article a five since he has a proficient writing experience, but not particularly in the
field of psychology. He is a historian in the field of science, technology, and the environment (). For
the publisher, I give the score of six because the source is an educational professional site in the field
of psychology which is what the article is about. In the evidence of bias category, I give the article a
three. The author has a strong preference to giving the prisoners the mental help they need instead of
just punishing them. Going on to explain why he believes that people should help them, but not really
going into the other side of the argument. For the use of sources, I give

The essay s intriguing topic pulls the reader in, while the author s excellent use of appeals solidifies her argument. Turkle s exceptional employment of appeals strengthens the overall effect of her essay, leaving her audience with a strong argument. Turkle utilizes her title and accolades to establish herself as a credible source. Finally, she tops her argument off with an emotional connection to the audience by including the audience in her argument, as well as by contributing specific ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Turkle persuades her audience by appealing to the emotional side of her audience. Throughout her essay, Turkle refers to the audience as we or us , in doing so she intends to make her readers feel included in her research and the argument. This strategy is an effective way to make the audience feel that the author is specifically addressing them. The inclusion tactic employed compels the audience to relate and agree with the author. Professor Turkle also utilizes specific anecdotes from her studies to make her argument more relatable. By providing examples of other people s experiences to the connection versus conversation argument, a reader is then able to associate themselves with that same experience. In doing so, that same reader then forms an emotional connection to the anecdote, as well as, to the argument. Professor Turkle employs one last emotional appeal at the very end of her essay. Turkle challenges her audience to step away from the technological overload and come back to human interaction, So I say, look up, look at one another, and let s start the conversation (Turkle). Professor Turkle appeals to her audience s emotions and challenges them to act on their emotions and accept her challenge to start the conversation. The emotional appeal in Turkle s argument effectively persuades the audience to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Because of this, and on the endeavour to unify the measurement of the current situation of a country, the United Nations via the United Nations Development Program in 1990 developed and first published their Annual Human Development Report featuring for the very first time in history the Human Development Index (Stanton, 2007). The HDI had withstood several critics regarding the poor quality of the data used in the calculations, regarding the selection of indicators and even on the calculations and the formulation itself; nevertheless, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) rebutted some of those claims and used others to improve the HDI calculations. (Stanton, 2007). The HDI, with or without flaws, has up to some extent shaped the way we assess and compare countries. Thanks to the HDI, the development is implied when talking about wellbeing instead of only looking at raw numerical information. This essay will explain and illustrates the key mechanism behind the money multiplier and explore how monetary authorities can influence its size and affect the money supply in the economy. Firstly, an introduction on money measure will be presented. Thirdly, the examination of the money multiplier in the current economic climate will be put forward. Similarly, if another customer deposits £400, the bank would have to reserve £80 and may convert the remaining £320 into loans or purchase government securities (Howell Bain, 2008). Nevertheless, it should be noted that the change in the money multiplier depends on the reserve requirement ratio and the public s willingness to deposit currency (Vasudevan, 2003). For instance, when the depositor keeps less currency it will have an effect on deposit as it will be multiplying more. In comparison, if the depositor holds more currency then less multiple deposits will occur (Ireland, 2010). Conversely, the banking system are required to keep a portion of the depositor funds for precautionary circumstances and the rest may be converted in to loans, thereby increasing the available cash by a factor that is a multiple of the initial deposit (Business Dictionary, 2010). For example, assume that the money supply in the economy is £900 billion, the total deposits are £500 billion and the reserved required is 12%. The calculation for mm is the following: In this example above, a £1 increase in Monetary Base/high powered money leads to a £2.20 increase in Money supply. My grandma, born in Tallinn, Estonia, fled the Russian attack during WWII. Viive, age nine, Ilvi, her four year old sister, and mother, Silvia, escaped on foot from the Russian occupation of their country. Their family, broken apart, was forced to leave Karl behind, a devoted husband and father. He was committed to protect Estonia, by fighting along side Hitler s German Army. My grandma Viive, Aunt Ilvi, and their mother, known as Ema in Estonian, landed in Germany and were forced to live in Displaced Persons Camps for seven years. Unsure of their future, they boarded a ship and sailed to the United States of America. The three girls, along with other Estonians, had no choice but to begin a new life far different than they had ever known. All three of the Baltic countries, Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania, lost their freedom and were annexed into the Eastern Block of the Soviet Socialist Republic (U.S.S.R.). The Expansive First Movement From Schubert s Rosamunde The expansive first movement from Schubert s Rosamunde quartet is an odyssey in which the principal melody, first heard in A minor, sets out on an epic quest for the attainment of A major. Laid out in a straight forward Sonata Form, the Primary theme appears as a triple period, with the last of the three phrases being in A major. The violent cadence in m. 32 dramatically switches the mode back into a menacing A minor, completely forfeiting the three tries in which the Primary theme so yearningly made to establish itself in A major. They are conspicuously missing from areas of relative passivity, such as the main thematic areas of both the Primary and Secondary themes. Enigmatically, the triplet figure does not feature in the Development. It is possible to see that this triplet figure features most prominently in areas that are highly unstable. Beginning right after the cataclysmic A minor chord in m. 32, the triplet figure first appears in m. 33 as just a tail of the cadence, as if it were turbulence caused by the suddenness of the cadence. It appears again shortly after another strong cadence in D minor (down one step in the circle of fifths), again as an after thought. The triplet figure returns again, this time with full force and intention in m. 44, acting as both the motor rhythmic element as well as a linear underpinning in a sequence of the descending circle of fifths. The figure disappears in m. 56 into eighth notes through rhythmic augmentation, just as the the movement reaches the Medial Caesura. One of the most noticeable changes in an individual s role in society occurred during the Italian Renaissance during the 14th and 15th centuries with the introduction of Humanism. Humanism gave birth to the concept of individuality a notion which is still alive today. It said that humans mattered and that now mattered, that one should not be part of a whole but rather someone that is unique. They were also encouraged to study ancient societies such as the Greeks and the Romans, believing this was the remedy for the present society. Humanism also encouraged people to help their society by combining the talents. An example of that can be found in Florence where three humanists served as chancellors of the city. Coluccio Salutati, Leonardo Bruni, and Poggio Bracciolini used rhetorical skills to encourage Florentines to revolt against the aggression of Naples and Milan. Both Bruni and Poggio wrote flattering histories of the city. Leon Battista Alberti, another accomplished humanist scholar, was a noted Florentine architect and builder. They were encouraged to combine their skills in history, art, and literature in their every day lives. This made them see the world with a different perspective, which made them into the individuals they aspired to be. Another change that occurred during the Italian Renaissance was the artistic perspective of this world. People were no longer painting two dimensional art, and non logical portraits. A new technique, chiaroscuros a technique that involved light and shadows, gave their paintings more depth and a realistic imagery. They also made their paintings more realistic by making the objects relative to one another. They emphasised emotions and belief in a universe full of harmony. By encouraging ... Conventionally, it is believed that newspapers have more readers than any other kind of written text. According to Van Dijk (1986), for most citizens, news is perhaps the type of written discourse with which they are confronted most frequently (p. 156). In the newspaper it is the headline that has the highest readership. It summarizes the content of a story, and entices an audience into reading the article. According to Ungerer (2000), a headline describes the essence of a complicated news story in a few words. It informs quickly and accurately and arouses the reader s curiosity (p. 48). Newspaper headlines are particularly important for the way readers comprehend a news text, they are markers that monitor attention, perception and the reading process (Van Dijk, 1988). According to Danuta R. (1998), headline is a unique type of text. It has a range of functions that specifically dictate its shape, content, and structure and it operates within a range of restrictions that limited the freedom of the writer. At 10:27 am the streets of Newcastle became filled with thousands of devastated people as they spilled onto the streets as buildings began to crumble around them. The shock measured 5.6 on the Richter magnitude scale, in seconds it turned a two story building into a disaster zone. Rescue services such as VRA, Newcastle ambulance and fire departments and SES acted quickly trying to free people trapped under buildings. As a result of the earthquake 13 people were confirmed dead, more than 160 people were injured and left damage worth 3.5 billion U.S. dollars. Many of the city s historical buildings were decimated along with 35,000 homes damaged, resulting in 1000 displaced people. According to a study conducted Christian D. Klose of Columbia University s Lamont Doherty Earth Observatory in Palisades, New York, the quake was triggered by changes in tectonic forces caused by 200 years of underground coal mining. But even more significant was groundwater pumping needed to keep the mines from flooding. For each ton of coal produced, 4.3 times more water was extracted. The mass removal of coal and water caused an unload of the entire continental crust. In the case of mining, an unload is the reduction of weight in a certain area, e.g., black coal and water in a colliery. If it has enough time, the tectonic plate reacts to this unload by forming a small deformation. In order to clearly understand the bigger picture of why the restaurant scene was not very diverse, I had to look back in history to not so long ago when times were very different. Historically, the town was not very accepting of social diversity and therefore the citizens are acting similarly to how they were raised and implementing their recursive actions. The year of 2015 was very significant for certain individuals, but it was a year that affected all Americans in some way or another. This was the year that Gay marriage became legal in all fifty states. Prior to this monumental action by the Supreme Court, there was not a wide acceptance of gay marriage within certain parts of America. Since then, not only have people been more accepting towards gay marriage, but people are taking it a step further and examining gay rights as a whole. This includes rights such as parental rights. The New York Times covered a story in which a gay couple adopted a baby with intensions to raise him together. After breaking up, the biological mother attempted to deny the other mother the right to raise their son. The Supreme Court ruled that it would be inconsistent to deny a gay couple the same rights as a straight couple in regards to parental care. In the recent history of the United States, the historical particularism suggests it would have been thought nearly impossible for a gay couple to be allowed to legally marry each other let alone have and raise a family. The ideology of communities within the United States shifted from absolutely not allowing gay right to anyone, to giving them the same rights as straight people. The reconfiguration of this idea stems from the change in social and cultural constructionism. Symbols are constantly evolving and representing a new meaning which is how social change happens. The Theory Of The Drive Theory Drive Theory The Drive theory was so named by Freud because of its emphasis on libidinal and aggressive drives, which Freud considers to be the two principal motivating forces of human behavior, and which barks for attention and expression. A child at birth is in a state of primary narcissism, and it clamors to have its needs met irrespective of the comforts of others. The erogenous zones (mouth, anus and genitals) are the avenues through which the energies are directed, and by stimulating these areas, the child finds pleasure. If energies are not adequately released, anxiety results, but as the child develops, it learns to regulate such forces for its ultimate good and that of others. The Ego functions like a good citizen, and acts as an intermediary between the Id, the superego, and the external environment, to procure socially acceptable behavior. The ego coordinates volition, and its main business is to protect self. It also regulates and suppresses the inordinate promptings of the Id through reasoning and compromises, and is capable of delaying gratification for the future. As maturation ensues, the ego expands, while the id shrinks, except in special cases where the individual is fixated at the infantile level. Conditioned on the examination that people with strong egos often have weak ids and superegos, Freud concludes that the relative distribution of energy among these forces affects personality directly. Top of Form Bottom of Form The superego is the conscience that grows out of parental prohibitions, and it represents the moral component of the personality. After mourning the loss, the woman realizes that she is finally free and independent, and that the only person she has to live for is herself. Either way, it can be interpreted that the couple never saw each other before Louise died. Therefore, Louise Mallard may have simply passed away from a heart that was exhausted from her strong initial grief of losing her husband and her new adventurous excitement from gaining freedom (Cunningham 3). The unique ending of The Story of an Hour also contains some irony. During the 1800s, which is the time period that Chopin wrote this short story, men held more respect than women in society, and women were expected to be dependent upon a husband. A critic, Emily Toth, states that Chopin may have included Louise s death at the end of the story to please authors and editors because presenting that a woman may be able to happily live without a husband in the 1890s would be a fanatic idea (Cunningham 4). The multitude of conservative readers in the 1890s could interpret that Louise passed away because she was too independent, but the actual meaning of the death may have very well been because of Louise s joy from finally being dismissed from her husband s control. By using irony, Chopin was able to both please the critics of her time period, and prove a hidden point that women can find joy without a man. Just War theory will be used to assess the just qualities of the British s involvement in the war. Great Britain s role in the war does not fit within any of the categories of being a just war in either jus ad bellum or in jus in bello. A just war can be justified if it brings peace to a region however; in this case, the Suez War was fought to retain the British s colonial powers among other reasons. The Suez war began in 1956 when the President Gamal Abdel Nasser nationalized the Suez Canal. Due to the canal s great importance to the British and they colluded with Israel and France to regain control of the canal. The Suez Canal was especially important to the British because it connected the Mediterranean and the Indian Ocean through the Red Sea. However, on July 26, 1956 President Nasser decided to nationalize the Suez Canal due to his anger at the British for withdrawing their loan offer to Egypt. • 31. The Leadership Position Of Youth Pastor There has been a considerable growth in what I now know about what it takes to be in the leadership position of Youth Pastor. There are several learnings I had from this book: one of them was the reminder of the insightfulness of youth. As Dean states, Youth have an acute ability to sniff out hypocrisy and to name injustice. Through her words on this and through discussion in class I have realized why it is so important to be genuine through everything you do. Youth tend to not only see but also imitate behavior they witness. This is the critical time for youth in identifying who they are and therefore what they witness can be a big part of who they become. Dean address this in the first chapter: James W. Fowler has described the adolescent thought process in terms of the couplet, I see you seeing me, I construct the me I think you see. It is important to not only provide an example of who Christ calls us to be, but to allow them to see the example that they may never see at home. I really liked how she identified the three major barriers to god bearing youth ministry. I found it beneficial that she signaled these out so that a person can be aware and ready if they start to fall into one of these categories. I can already notice how I might fit into these three categories of being a fixer, controller, or of having the need to be liked. Knowing these before I actually start in ministry is already helping me in addressing the issue. I can already see how I would be a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The studies are based on the Ball Brown study regarding the relationship between earnings and share prices. This diagram shows that the size and sign of unexpected Earnings per Share (EPS) is related to the sign and size of cumulative Abnormal Return (AR). The graph represents the portfolio in ranking order based on the forecast error and EPS. There are 10 portfolios in which the first portfolio has the most negative forecast error and EPS while the tenth portfolio has the most positive forecast error and EPS. This means that Portfolio 1 is the worst performing firm in regarding the earnings (most negative share price reaction) while Portfolio 10 is the best performing firm (most positive share price reaction). Based on the fourth and fifth portfolio, the share reaction is very small. The negative abnormal return in portfolio 4 is pretty much negligible and the same can be said in portfolio 5 where there is only a slight positive share price reaction. This is due to the fact that the information is not too much of a surprise for the shareholders to react hugely. Therefore, it can be said that from portfolio 1 to 4, they are the bad news firms while portfolio 5 to 10 are the good news firms. • 36. Literature Review On Social Movements II. LITERATURE REVIEW Social movements (SMs) have been part of society s history and politics for centuries. For some authors, they started with the French Revolution and have been constantly rising and falling depending on the existent socio political climate (Reichmann Fernandez Buey, 1994). For Charles Tilly, the nineteenth laid the groundwork for the modern social movements of the twentieth century (Tilly, 1998). Karl Marx also studied and developed the concept of SMs; he viewed them as a means of achieving a deep social change through class conflict (Tarrow, 2011). Studied in relationship to the rise of globalisation and social media, the expansion and modernisation of SMs has become increasingly prominent in the academic literature of the last century. Accordingly, Globalisation has made it possible for individuals to empower themselves through participation in supranational organisations and international organisms that challenge governmental authority. As evidenced by Manuel Castells, populations around the world are now able to come together to affect change by expressing ideas and demonstrating in support of pressing issues (Castells, 2009).
