In my own opinion, the distinction on an aspect of administration and the political dichotomy is both
workable and also it is practical. The reason as to why I am saying this is that first, the two aspects in

Satirical Influence Within The Friar s Tale Geoffrey Chaucer is widely recognized as one of the
greatest English poets of the Middle Ages. As a poet, Chaucer used satire in his work. Chaucer s
acclaimed anthology, The Canterbury Tales, was written to execute change in society by expressing
his enthralling views on the diversification of social classes with the powerful utilization of satire. The
Friar s Tale is one of the twenty four stories in the piece; it tells the narrative of a corrupt summoner
that befriends a disguised bailiff, who is truthfully the Devil ( The Friar s Tale ). The summoner is
satiric because he is derided with the characteristics of greed, dishonesty, and manipulation. Because
Chaucer wanted to express his opinion without arousing trouble, he incorporated The Friar s Tale in
his work and utilized satire throughout his tale to ridicule the corruption and show foolishness in the
summoner in addition to the effect of social change. Satire is a literary device used in The Friar s Tale
. The use of satire greatly impacts the purpose of Geoffrey Chaucer s famous anthology and the
motivation behind why he composed it. Satire is a technique that uses humor, irony, sarcasm,
exaggeration, and mockery to expose human vices and follies (Mazzei). Therefore, it is prominent to
understand that Chaucer used satire to negatively represent summoners amid the Middle Age time
period. The purpose behind The Friar s Tale was to ultimately make improvement in society. By doing
so, numerous satirical writers, like Chaucer, seeked to enhance humanity and furthermore encouraged
