Essay about Chemical Warfare
The images are haunting: soldiers in gas masks rapid firing through dusky vapours, people
contorted with a pain that comes from within. Chemical warfare has long been acknowledged as a
devastating tactical weapon, but the origin of this impression is now being debated. While it is a
common held belief that chemical warfareis a form of modern warfare and that the First World War
is recognised for introducing this type of combat, recent archaeological finds show this may prove
otherwise. According to accepted definitions of chemical warfare, newly discovered battle tactics
used by humanity s ancestors may not be so different from those of modern warfare. In the opposite
way, while advancements in science have aided in making chemical... Show more content on

Historians consider the use of poison on arrowheads as the beginning of humanity s foray into
this type of tactical warfare. (WIFA. 2005) Toxic substances became the predominant form of
chemical warfare in the ancient world, and it was common for attacking armies to poison the
water supply of besieged cities or use other poison methods to silently dispose of their enemies.
However, poison was only the beginning of modern tactics used in the ancient world. By 429
B.C., toxic fumes made up of sulphur were recorded as used in battle. (WIFA. 2005) Most
interestingly though, is what has come to light in recent archaeological investigations. Credited
as the oldest ... evidence for chemical warfare (Syed, 2009), the discovery of twenty Roman
soldiers in the city of Dura Europos, circa AD 256, at first puzzled archaeologists (Syed, 2009).
While each soldier had apparently died in combat, they bore no marks to suggest violence was the
cause and it was not until the unearthing of bitumen and sulphur crystals nearby that asphyxiation
was considered (University of Leicester, 2009). When bitumen and sulphur are burned together,
they create dense clouds of choking gasses (University of Leicester, 2009), meaning that this
discovery is the oldest found form of choking agents. More proof of chemical warfare s early
beginnings lies with the

Chesapeake Life History
Between 1813 and 1962, steamboats ruled the Chesapeake Bay, reflected in a fascinating and
important era, in which trade and travel were made more convenient with steamers that linked parts
of Maryland and Virginia, with distant and isolated rural communities along the Eastern Shore, in
particular, including Piankatank River and Occohannock Creek in Virginia, Hudson Creek off the
Little Choptank River in Maryland, Bushwood, and Rock Point It made possible access to certain
goods and services typically unavailable east of the Bay, along with opportunities for leisure and
entertainment.
There were various types of steamboats on the Chesapeake Bay, all serving a specific function. The
packet steamboats were the most common, were medium sized and fast, and transported
passengers, freight and domestic mail. The rural areas and the city were made accessible with a
large fleet of smaller vessels steam ferries, while excursion steamers or showboats were more
elaborate, colorful and beautifully decorated made drop offs at popular resorts on the Bay,

Racist Language In Literature
Racist language within literature is largely controversial, but there are benefits and drawbacks of
using such language within literature. Using racially charged language depicts the historical time
and mindset of people living within a certain time period. Furthermore, it allows readers a chance
to learn about their own culture from the use of racially insensitive language. Though there are
benefits to using such language, there are consequently some drawbacks to allowing the use of
such language. One of the primary drawbacks of allowing the use of racially insensitive language
within literature is that it normalizes the use of such language within the current culture. The
Things They Carried often uses racially insensitive language throughout the story. This language
often comes from the American military and is directed against the Vietnamese. The guy was a
little crazy, for sure, but crazy in a good way, a real daredevil, because he liked the challenge of
it, he liked testing himself, just man against gook (O Brien 44). While this racial slur is extremely
offensive and problematic, it is acceptable to use in the context that this literature is based in
because it is striving to accurately depict a historical time period and the mindset of people living
during that time. Furthermore, the use of this type of language within literature exposes the stains
and issues within one s own culture; especially those of European descent or who classify
themselves as Caucasian.

Essay On 1960s Fashion
The 1960s were an age of fashion innovation for women. The ( 1960s In Western Fashion ) article

today s world. In the 60 s people were finally more open to being more bold with their clothing
chooses instead of being like the norm, everyone basically did their own thing.Fashionin the 1960 s
changed the way the people think of and wear Fashion today. Without the 60 s outbreak of bright
and colorful fashion we might of still have plain boring clothes. Before the 60 s fashion really
wasn t all that. Most of the styles were dull and boring but once teens started trying to dress
different from their parents it all changed. To begin, It s almost like the 1950s bottled everyone up
so much that the late 1960sexploded like an old pressure cooker. Women were showing more skin
than ever before. ( 1960s Fashion: Styles, Trends, Pictures History. ). This explains, how no
women in the 50 s or before really were told showing lots of skin was okay until the 60 s. When
all of a sudden ladies started showing lots of skin people were shocked. Back then mostly
everyone was taught to not show a lot. Just like swimsuits were always a one piece so your
stomach didn t show, but in the 60 s it was many women in bikinis or tankinis sunbathing at the
beach. In Addition, during the 60 s just like today most of the newer fashion was focused towards
young adults or teens. Since they were as a

Analysis Of Newton Raphson Load Flow Method With Wind Power
5.1 Review
Li et.al[5] suggested Newton Raphson load flow method with wind power. Asynchronous and
double fed induction generator were explained in detail and accordingly Jacobian matrices were
suggested. An IEEE 5 bus system was used for case study which proved that the new NR method
had a good convergence hence could be used for calculations for large grid with wind power. Steady
state equivalent circuit for AG and DFIG were also discussed in the paper.
Feijoo et.al [6] proposed two methods for simulation of wind farms with asynchronous
generators for load flow analysis which were based on steady state model of induction machine.
In the first model wind generator was modelled as a PQ bus with real power and power factor
known and reactive power was calculated. Some improvement in steady state model of induction
machine was done. In the second model an RX model was used which involved modelling the
generators in steady state in the bus where the wind farm was located.
1.1 General
Rapid consumption of non renewable fossil fuels as sources of energy has lead to depletion of
these resources. So the price of petroleum resource has increased in the international market. A
growing concern over their environmental effects has lead to research and development in the area
of renewable energy to find an alternative source of energy for future. Wind energy which
possesses the highest power density amongst various renewable energy sources, is one such source.

The Yasukuni Shrine and the Rise of Japan
The Yasukuni Shrine and the Rise of Japan s New Nationalism The Yasukuni Shrine is a Shinto
shrine established in 1869 in Tokyo. It was constructed in order to honor and worship the soldiers
who have died for their country in the Boshin Civil War that brought about the Meiji restoration
and sacrificed their lives in the service of their emperor to build a firm foundation for Japan to
become a truly peaceful country. For some Asian countries such as China and South Korea, which
had been victims under Japanese imperialism and aggression in the first half of the 20th century,
the shrine was built to commemorate Japanese war criminals in the World War II, and it has

For the leftist and liberals, the Rape of Nanking is a key symbol of cruel Japanese militarism.
They used the sympathy for civilian casualties to substantiate Article 9 of the constitution, which is
essential to avoid another Nanking Massacre and to prevent Japan from waging wars in the future,
and they viewed that the presence of Yasukuni proves the resurgence of Japanese militarism and
the continual existence of feudalism in modern Japanese society. However, the rightist conservative
camp in Japan is rising to prominence on a wave of patriotic assertiveness, and their influence is
evident in the rewriting of Japanese textbooks to deny imperial Japan s conquest in China.
Therefore, in addition to its militaristic history and ideology chasm between political camps, the
symbolism of Yasukuni adds external political pressure on Japanese government to re examine the
articulation of its wartime past. Not only does the Yasukuni controversy generated disapproval from
Japan s Asian neighbors, it also created domestic debate between the leftist and rightist political
groups in Japan. In contrast to the Japanese leftist, the Chinese, and the Korean, the prime minister
s shrine visits are supported by right wing nationalists, who form a significant core component of
the support base of the Liberal Democratic Party and dominates

The Role of Spirituality in Health Care Essay
Spiritual Assessment
Grand Canyon University: HLT 310
January 20, 2013
Spirituality is a delicate topic, and some may not be open to talking about their beliefs. Spirituality
is generally understood to be an essential aspect of being human (Lyndo Lam, 2012). Assessing the
spiritual needs of patients is a key component in the nursing process. A compassionate and
thoughtful nurse can make a patient feel more secure, making it easier for him to express his
spirituality. The participation of both patient and health care provideris vital in promoting spiritual
health. The main focus of a spiritual assessment is to gather information regarding the patient s
spiritual needs in order incorporate them into the plan of care, so as to treat ... Show more content

Patient strongly believes that faith plays an important part in his health, but he knows that he could
also do much more for himself in order to improve his health. Mr. Ferrell quotes, I can t expect God
to help me if I don t help myself (Ferrel, 2013). Praying and honoring God does fullfil his spiritual
needs but it does not magically improve his health. He mentioned that his weakness is food and
as a result he struggles with his diabetic and renal diets; eating healthier could improve the patient
s health. Mr. Ferrell believes and knows that he needs to treat his body better as God has been so
merciful with him and considers his eating habits a sin. As a retired man, he finds time to do many
Church activities that benefit both the community and himself. He likes doing community services
as it helps release some stress caused by his illness. Being involved in Church has taken him to
Jerusalem, which to him was the most wonderful experience. Traveling has played an important
role for him but cannot do so often due to his dependency of a machine to clean his blood. What
went well The patient was able to express himself openly; no questions were skipped or left blank.
Explaining the reason and the importance of performing this spiritual assessment helped build
rapport and trust with the patient easily. Also, getting some insight into his spiritual needs made the
connection between nurse and patient stronger. What would you do differently in the

In 1896, the New Women, whom were to depict the twentieth century female, came to P.T.
Barnum s circus (Davis 83). Women performers proudly displayed rippling bodies while
demonstrating impressive feats of strength and handling dangerous animals. Most importantly, the
circus was a comfortable space for women who felt alienated by social norms. In an era when a
majority of women s roles were still circumscribed by Victorian ideals of domesticity and feminine
propriety, circum women s performances celebrated female power, thereby representing a startling
alternative to social norms. In their elaborate advertising campaigns, proprietors used gender, race,
class, and representations of empire to create an irresistible sexual striptease under the guise of
clean family entertainment Since American women generally wore full skirts and long sleeved
shirtwaists at this time, virtually anything short of that coverage should be constructed as nude,
including the wearing of leotards, tights, or dresses above the knee. Showmen s constant emphasis
on female performers lives, loves and body hugging tights became yet another way to talk about
sex (Davis 85). Antebellum circus audience members targeted circus women as disreputable. Most
objections centered on costuming. Although tights and leotards were not worn until after the Civil
War, antebellum payers wore stockings under knee length skirts a far cry from the proper, long
sleeved, floor length dress of the period. Purity reformers and audiences both frequently thought
that all female entertainers were prostitutes because they exposed their bodies for pay. Even
audience members were often treated with suspicion. During the first half of the nineteenth century,
American theater managers commonly reserved the third tier of seats, or upper gallery, for
prostitutes and their customers as a site of sexual exchange (Davis 86). Because they were often
banned by law for their bodily

Netflix Competitive Analysis
1. A key business goal was to reduce the cost of building the DVD library. One tactic used to
achieve this goal was to stimulate demand on older and lesser know movie titles. Shifting demand
away from higher cost new releases drove down the average price of acquiring DVDs and
improved asset utilization. This produced increased margins and profitability.
To balance demand Netflix developed a proprietary recommendation system. The system enabled
the transition from a manual one size fits all promotion approach to an automated data driven
marketing plan that delivered personalized recommendations across the entire movie library.
Effectively, the recommendation system outsourced the task of marketing to the subscriber. The

True American Values
What are Americans? Nowadays when people think of Americans they think of a trendy and
lazy group of people. However many people still believe that a true American is not that at all.
Many people still show the values this country was built on. Those are freedom of speech,
family, and the right to control your destiny. The Freedom of speech is one of the most important
things involved with being an American. Freedom of speech is probably one of the most well
know rights that American citizens have. Natural Americans do not know how great of a right

The Population of the Wild Hog is Exploding
Today in America there is a wild dangerous animal that is greatly expanding. It is being seen
more often in neighborhoods more than ever. The wild hog population is currently exploding.
These animals get up to 400 pounds with 6 in long razor sharp teeth. They also have a thick hide
and a armor like plating called a shield around their chest area. They are destroying Americas
agriculture industry as well as peoples property. By digging their snouts into the earth and
flipping it up to eat plant roots. This is called rooting. A group of hogs can root and destroy
several acres of crops or land in a single night. Wild hogs were first introduced to America by the
Spanish as a domestic animal used for meat. Over time these animals escaped and began free
ranging and breeding. They quickly became wild. In the 1930 s owners of ranches introduced
Russian boars to be shot in game preserves. These Russian boars grow much larger, are more
aggressive and have larger, sharper teeth. When they escaped, cross breeding occurred that
introduced the genes that gave America the hybrid feral swine they have today. These animals are
not only a threat to the economy but they are also a threat to people, other wildlife and the native

Ideal happiness within a society varies greatly depending on the time period and trends that are

the current trends include newly advanced scientific research that Aldous Huxley heavily used
throughout the novel; Huxley is a humanist horrified by the theories and accomplishments of
extremists of his own time, but in the novel by using contrasting points of view, he makes no

eliminating the curiosity of each individual s purpose within their life, the people in power

Paying Attention Pays Off for Andra Rush
1. As we have discussed, competency models describe the behaviors and skills managers need to

Competency models describe the behaviors and skills managers need to exhibit if an organization
is to be successful (Hughes, Ginnett, Curphy, p. 252). In many organizations, competency models
can differ between the different hierarchies of managers. As a person s leadership role evolves so do
the behaviors and skills he or she must possess to be an effective leader. This statement holds firm
as with the case of Andra Rush.

Rush also showed adaptability which is the ability to confidently adapt and adjust to changes and
challenges; and the ability to maintain a positive outlook and work constructively under pressure.
She followed through with the idea of forming a trucking company by borrowing monies to
purchase trucks, accepting every job offer, answering the phones, budgeting the books, and
repairing the trucks. This is also evident by the fact Rush can lead a large trucking company, but
also community organizations. Both have different leadership styles which she has to properly
adjust to.
Another competency displayed by Rush is customer focus which is maintaining a clear focus on
customer needs and demonstrating a strong desire to provide exemplary customer service; and
actively seeks ways to increase customer satisfaction. With the formation of the company, Rush
accepted every shipping job, even if she had to drive the trucks herself. She pays attention and
exceeds customer s expectations regardless of circumstances. Such as the case of when local
bridges were shutdown during September 11th attacks, Rush made a crucial shipment by renting a
barge.

Nuclear Weapons Technology And Its Impact On The...
This project will discuss nuclear weapons technology and its impact on the Treaty on the
Nonproliferation of Nuclear Weapons, also known as the NPT (Nonproliferation Treaty). The
Treaty covers three main pillars: disarmament, nonproliferation, and peaceful uses of nuclear
energy. It was signed in 1968 due to concern that the safety of the planet was at risk by having a
high number of nuclear weaponstates. After the United States bombed the cities of Hiroshima and
Nagasaki using vastly destructive nuclear fission bombs, it became apparent that the States and
possibly other countries could divert resources towards weapons rather than peaceful uses of
nuclear energy. Thus, nuclear weaponry prompted the creation of the Treaty.
Since the development of the first nuclear weapons technology by the Manhattan Project of the
United States in 1945, nuclear proliferation has been a major global concern. The Manhattan
Project was an undertaking involving the development of nuclear fission bombs, also known as
atom bombs. Atom bombs use a hollow bullet of enriched uranium shot into a target made of the
same element, initiating a nuclear chain reaction that releases vast amounts of energy. The bombs
created by the Manhattan Project were called Little Boy and Fat Man, and were used on the
Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, respectively. This effectively ended World War II in
1945 after Japan was forced to surrender, but it also caused the deaths of hundreds of thousands of

The Three Major Correctional Reformers
Of the three major correctional reformers, I believe that Cesare Beccaria accomplished the most
for corrections. Cesare Beccaria emphasized that the use of punishment for crimes was used solely
for the purpose of protecting society and preventing crime. This is extremely important, because in
the past, individuals were using punishment as a means of revenge, but Cesare changed this idea.
Cesare s ideas eventually led to creation of classical criminology, and this alone helped to pave the
road to ending unjustifiable punishments and inhumane treatment.
Classical criminology contained six principles, and all of these principles emphasized the
importance of using punishment to promote deterrence and prevention. Within these principles
Cesare explains that prevention is more important than anything. This idea led to major reforms,
including getting secret accusations and torturing of individuals abolished. That was not all,
however, Cesare saw that the accused were not being given the benefit of the doubt, hence the
torturing of individuals to get confessions that may or may not be true. He decided that the
accused should have the right to a speedy trial, also humane treatment before the trial, and finally,
the right to bring forward any evidence they may have on their behalf. This ultimately gave the
accused a voice that they never had. Today, we see the idea of a speedy trial within our
Constitution, along with other laws promoting fairness for those who have been accused.

How Did Thurgood Marshall Influence The Civil Rights Movement

In my research of the civil rights movement I think Thurgood Marshall and President Kennedy is on
equal footing with Martin Luther King Jr. in influence the movement. I call it a three prong
approach. Marshall helps strip the segregation law. King shows the country how it treats its
minority citizens. And President Kennedy was ready to sign into law the civil rights bill.
The civil rights movement was a political movement created by civil resistance with the goal of
change using nonviolent forms of resistance.
According to Adamson
, civil rights refer to the rights of a citizen to political and social freedom and equality. The birth of
the modern civil rights movement was greatly influenced, by the agitation of the African Americans
for equal rights and abolishment of the segregation laws. The main goal of the civil rights
movement was to ensure that equal rights of the people, would be protected, by law.
This movement redefines the idea of what it meant to be free in America. Faced with racial
discrimination, social prejudice and poor services, the minority groups realized that they had to
fight for their rights. Studies by McWhorter showed that influential religious and business leaders
and early African Americanscholars pioneered the modern civil rights movement. Some of the most
notable individuals who spear headed the movement included the aforementioned of Marshall,

Somnambulism In Macbeth
If the tragedy was to be read in the light of modern psychopathology the interpretation will be
found that Lady Macbeth is an accurate example of portraying the disease hysteria. It has been
demonstrated that there is a rigid determinism in the mental world and that psychophysical
processes are the result of a certain chain of causation of either conscious or unconscious. It has
been repeatedly demonstrated that the resistance offered by the memory of emotional experience
may sometimes be so great that it produces a dissociation or splitting of consciousness.
Somnambulism is one of the most marked forms of splitting of consciousness that is most liable to
occur in the disease hysteria, which is a form of mental dissociation. Characteristics of
somnambulism are that images are clearly represented and the subject seems to see and hear
everything. In each somnambulistic state the subject repeats the same words and makes the same
gestures as in the original experience which was responsible for the cause of the somnambulistic
state (Pierre).
Somnambulism may assume various types of sleep walking or it may develop to such a high
degree that the subjects may wander in strange places for hours or days, and lose memory of their
real personality. It can also create hallucinations of the various senses, and the subject speaks to
imaginary persons or hears imaginary voices (Pierre). Hallucinations also occur in the sense of
smell as in Lady Macbeth s sleepwalking scene, it is

Proven Guilty
Regarding whether the defendant CJ can be charged with Murder , depends on several different
factors. In front of the law CJ is not legally able to be charged with criminal responsibility, being
only thirteen and not above fourteen years of age. Thus, in this situation, Doli Incapax acts as a
rebuttable presumption. This essentially means that because of CJs age, his behaviour is under the
context of being incapable or unable to form an intent to commit a crime . Nevertheless, an
assumption is made by a court that CJ is innocent until proven guilty . This statement is valid,
unless and until the other party strongly contests the decision, and proves otherwise. Rebuttable
presumptions are regularly linked with Prima Facie evidence, which involves evidence that is set
before the trial. This kind of proof is extremely important, as it needs to sufficiently prove the
defendant s claim, unless there is substantial inconsistent evidence presented at trial favouring the
prosecutor. As the Children law states, the test for Doli Incapax involves prosecution must rebut
the presumption of doli incapax as an element of the prosecution case, the child knew the act was
seriously wrong as opposed to naughty, and the evidence relied upon by the prosecution must be
strong and clear beyond all... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The case R v LMW (1999), concerns a 10 year old boy defendant, who was charged with the
manslaughter of six year old Corey Davis, who drowned on the 2nd March 1998. The defendant
had dropped the victim into the Georges River, having knowledge that Corey was unable to swim.
The defendant was found not guilty of manslaughter, as the jury supported the defence case that the
drowning of Corey had been an act of bullying that went wrong . Henceforth, this is a classic
example of a case which signifies how the intent (Men s rea) was not present, though Actus Reus

Land Art History
When it emerged in the sixties among the crush of several other art movements (Pop Art,
Minimalism, among others) Land Art came to be an anti gallery artistic offshoot that straddled the
domain between architecture and sculpture. It had no manifestos nor schools nor leaders and it
was not quite a movement; the artists who were involved with it were also involved in other types
of arts. Land artwas labelled as modern sculpture but its versatility and introduction of new
concepts and visual materials made it difficult to ascribe it to one field or term. Later on, the term
Earth Works, coined by Robert Smithsoncame to use but Earth Works only refers to works that use

Smithson s work Broken Circle Spiral Hill is two different works situated near each other. It is
actually not in America but was commissioned for an exhibition in the Netherlands near Emmen.
Spiral Hill is an earth mound that coils clockwise unto itself, like a sleeping snake. When it was
completed it was just shaped earth but in current day it is covered in green grass. Situated
nearby on the edge of the shore and into the water is the Broken Circle; its site was actually a
functioning sand and gravel quarry which was filled with green water. Smithson played with the
negative and positive space in such a way that the broken circle whose alternating arms are
shaped with white and yellow sand, recalls the Chinese Yin Yang symbol. In the middle of the
positive space half circle sits a boulder and this is yet again another allusion to monumental
works of the past, this one appropriately native to Dutch lands. Yet the center boulder in fact
significantly expands the associative levels of this work because it offers a direct tie to prehistory.

Comparing Shakespeare s Oedipus The King And Death...
COMPARING TRAGEDIES THROUGHOUT TIME
By Daniel Konshak What is a tragedy? Merriam Webster dictionary defines tragedy as a serious
drama typically describing a conflict between the protagonist and a superior force, such as destiny,
and having a sorrowful or disastrous conclusion that elicits pity or terror. Two such examples of
literary tragedies are Oedipus the King by Sophocles and Death of a Salesman by Arthur Miller.
Although written over 2000 years apart, there are many similarities between the two literary
works, but with varying degrees of differences as well. Some of the key areas to be examined
when making this comparison are: the social status of the main characters, the psychological
mindsets the characters are in, their respective lack of self awareness, whether their fate was
deserved or not, and the main fatal flaw of each main character. Let s begin by first examining
the social status of the two main characters from each literary selection. In Oedipus the King by
Sophocles, the main character is, of course, Oedipus. As the story unfolds, we find that Oedipus
has been plagued by the prophecy that said he should lie with his own mother and be his father s
murderer (Sophocles, 385). Oedipus, in trying to break this prophecy, flees from the city to escape
this fate. However, unbeknownst to Oedipus, he was actually born in Thebes and not in the city of
Corinth as he originally believed. So, instead of escaping the city and the fate of the

The Ancient Civilization Of Egypt
Egypt was an ancient civilisation found in the northern Africa. Like many early civilizations, it
developed along a river, that being the Nile River. It was important that it developed along a river
such as the Nile because it provided water for agriculture and drinking, which were necessary for
survival in a permanent settlement or civilization. South of Egyptwas the civilization of Nubia, or
Kush. This was important to Egypt s culture because the back and forth conquering of each other
that went on led to the integration of one another s culture. Egypt adopted Nubian traditions and
vice versa. Egypt was a prominent, African civilization for roughly 1500 years, being divided
into three separate kingdoms, those being Old, Middle, and New. The Old Kingdom through the
New Kingdom lasted from about 2575 b.c.e to 1075 b.c.e. The Old Kingdom was established in
roughly 2575 b.c.e. and lasted to about 2130 b.c.e. During the Old Kingdom, leaders called
pharaohs created a strong, central, organised government for Egypt. Theocratic rule was present
throughout Egyptian government, meaning that Egypt s government was headed and led by
religious leaders. The chief religious adviser to the pharaoh was their vizier. Pharaohs of the Old
Kingdom established a bureaucratic form of government, meaning it had varying levels of authority
and departments tasked with handling specific objectives. The Middle Kingdom of Egypt endured
from approximately 1938 b.c.e. to 1630 b.c.e. The Middle

The Exciting Life of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle
According to Alison M. Lewis who wrote Arthur Conan Doyle: A Life in Letters, he married a
woman named Louisa Hawkins in 1885. Twelve years later he fell in love with another lady
named Jean Elizabeth Leckie, but out of respect for his wife he kept their relationship friendly and
nothing more. Bittersweetly for Doyle, Loiusa died of tuberculosis in 1906. The next year he was
wed to Jean and they stayed together until her death in 1940 (Lewis 114). Sir Arthur Conan Doyle
also had five children in his lifetime. According to June Sawyers, the writer of Arthur Conan
Doyle: A Life In Letters, his first wife birthed two of his children and Jean Elizabeth Leckie had
the other three. Mary Louise was his first child, born in 1889, then Kingsley was born three years
later. His second wife had their first child in 1909, named Denis Percy Stewart, who married a
Georgian Princess later in his life. The other children were named Adrian Malcolm and Jean Lena
Annette (Sawyers 14). Through all the stresses of family and work, Doyle wanted to eliminate
Sherlock Holmesfrom his busy schedule. According to Theodore Dalrymple who wrote The
Eternal Detective, Doyle had his own medical practice set up in London, but no patients ever
came. He would write while waiting for customers. He eventually became tired of writing and
wanted to kill off Sherlock Holmes because the character was distracting him from more important
issues. In 1893 he wrote The Final Problem where Holmes plummeted

The Life of Louis Armstrong Essays

He was known as the greatest of all jazz musicians. He defined what it really was to play genuine
jazz music and taught the world to swing. He included joy, spontaneity, and amazing technical
abilities. Louis Armstrong was a genius when it came to his inventive musical ability. In this paper,
I will tell you about who Armstrong was, his early childhood, accomplishments, and his living
legacy. Louis Armstrongwas born on August 4, 1901 in New Orleans, Louisiana which is famously
known as the birth place of jazz. Armstrong was born into a very poor family in a rough area in
New Orleans. His father was a factory worker who abandoned the family soon after Armstrong was

gained enough individual attention to make his recording debut as a leader in 1925 when he
returned to Chicago. He joined his wife s band at the Dreamland CafГ©, and also played in
Erskine Tate s Vendome Orchestra and then with Carrol Dickenson s Orchestra at the Sunset
CafГ©. That same year Armstrong recorded his first Hot Five records, which was the first time
he made records under his own name. Any of the records that were made by Louis Armstrong s
Hot Five and Hot Seven were considered to be Jazz classics. Their band continued recording
until 1928, but never played live. This music set a standard and the agenda for jazz in the many
years to follow. Armstrong s trumpet introduction to West End Blues is very famous. It has yet
to be surpassed and remains as one of the greatest recorded moments of jazz. While Louis was
working at the Sunset CafГ©, he met Joe Glaser, who became his manager. Glaser was his
manager until he died. Armstrong led his own band; they were called Louis Armstrong and his
Stompers. Louis had become a big star by 1929. He occasionally appeared with the Luis Russell
Orchestra, with Dave Peyton, and Fletcher Henderson, and also toured with the show Hot
Chocolates. In Chicago in 1931 Armstrong assembled his own band for touring purposes. When he

Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (G.A.A.P)
GENERALLY ACCEPTED ACCOUNTING PRINCIPLES (G.A.A.P)
GAAP is an international convention of good accounting practices. It is based on the following core
principles. In certain instances particular types of accountants that deviate from these principles can
be held liable.
The Business Entity Concept
The business entity concept provides that the accounting for a business or organization be kept
separate from the personal affairs of its owner, or from any other business or organization. This
means that the owner of a business should not place any personal assets on the business balance
sheet. The balance sheet of the business must reflect the financial position of the business alone.
Also, when transactions of the business are recorded, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If this is not done, the financial statements will not measure the results of operations fairly. The Cost
Principle
The cost principle states that the accounting for purchases must be at their cost price. This is the
figure that appears on the source document for the transaction in almost all cases. There is no place
for guesswork or wishful thinking when accounting for purchases.
The value recorded in the accounts for an asset is not changed until later if the market value of the
asset changes. It would take an entirely new transaction based on new objective evidence to change
the original value of an asset.
There are times when the above type of objective evidence is not available. For example, a
building could be received as a gift. In such a case, the transaction would be recorded at fair market
value which must be determined by some independent means. The Consistency Principle
The consistency principle requires accountants to apply the same methods and procedures from
period to period. When they change a method from one period to another they must explain the
change clearly on the financial statements. The readers of financial statements have the right to
assume that consistency has been applied if there is no statement to the contrary.
The consistency principle prevents people from changing methods for the sole purpose of
manipulating figures on the financial statements. The Materiality Principle
The materiality principle requires

Hunt. This court case was a case in which the Massachusetts Supreme Court ruled that the
common law doctrine of criminal conspiracy did not apply to labor unions. Criminal conspiracy
is when two or people agree to commit a crime in the near future. Many people in their jobs were

Arabian Nights Characters Analysis
The frame story of The Arabian Nights is set up with the kings encounters with their wives and the
demon s woman. Linked by the emphasis on promiscuity as a shared characteristic of all the women
concerned, and structurally by the repetition of the act of betrayal and the humiliation of men, the
message is clear: womans sexuality and promiscuity can not be controlled.
Opening with the story of King Shahrayar and Shahrazad and their wives, we are first introduced
to the themes of betrayal and the promiscuity of women. Here are two kings living in different
cities, far from each other, experience similar circumstances. Their women, having betrayed them,
make love to their slaves once King Shahrayar and Shahrazad are gone. This is the first sign of the
king s changing their perspective on women and both acting rashly on their own feelings.
How will it be and what will happen behind my back when I go to visit my brother in India? No.
Women are not to be trusted. He got exceedingly angry, adding, By God,I am king and sovereign in
Samarkand, yet my wife has betrayed me and has inflicted this on me. As his anger boiled, he
drew his sword and struck both his wife and cook. Then he dragged them by the heels and threw
them from the top of the palace to the trench below. (pg 6)

murdering his wife and cook that these action, although seemingly justified, are rash and are based

Comanche means People who fight us all the time . The word Comanche struck fear in the hearts
those on the Texas frontier. The Comanche were famous for the raids they went on, and were

men, but all of them. Also, since the Comanche were so know to commit these acts, almost any
violent act was blamed on them. They may not have even committed some of the acts that they
were accused of doing. Some have even suggested that whites invented stories to get people to
go after the Comanche. One such instance may have been the Matilda Lockhart story at the

story goes that she was horribly disfigured and mutilated, and her nose had been burned off her

hostage until the others arrived. A fight broke out, and when it was all said and done, over 30
Indians were killed. The Indians were then said to torture and burn all of the captives they had to
death, including young children. However, in documents and eyewitness accounts, the abuse is not

The Freedom Of School Choice Essay
In a nation founded upon freedom, the liberty to choose the institution from which you get your
education should be a greater concern in Pennsylvania. Our nation has prided itself upon its legacy
of liberty, as well as the many opportunities it has been able to provide for its citizens. And yet our
government has been continuously denying us one very important freedom that all in America
should have, the freedom of school choice. You would think that more people would be concerned
with this infringement upon human rights. While our government is striving to give more freedom
to homosexuals who desire marriage and to women who do not want to deal with the human being
that they helped to create, it is ignoring or suppressing the cries for liberty from those who desire
the religious freedom to educate their children in the way they believe they should be educated.
Because of the support that the government gives public schools using taxdollars and government
subsidies, parents find it too difficult financially to place their children in religious private schools,
secular private schools, or even charter schools.
Also, the government has arranged public schools in such a way as to make it difficult for parents
to put their children in a school that meets their standards of education. Many public schools are
dropping their academic standards as well as losing their ethical standards altogether. Thus many
parents do not want to put their children in a school where they do not

Types Of Extreme Temperatures Affect Enzyme Activity
Observing Enzyme Catalysis
Purpose:
Procedure A (Testing Enzyme Activity) How do different types of extreme temperatures affect
enzyme activity?
Procedure B (Establishing a Baseline) How much peroxide is needed to establish a baseline for a
1.5% solution?
Procedure C (Rate of Hydrogen Peroxide Spontaneous Decomposition) How do oxygen and water
affect the spontaneous decomposition of hydrogen peroxide?
Procedure D (Rate of Hydrogen Peroxide Decomposition by Enzyme Catalysis) How does different
titration techniques affect the rate of hydrogen peroxide decomposition by enzyme catalysis?
Hypothesis:
Procedure A (Testing Enzyme Activity) In some conditions, a reaction will occur and in others no
reaction will happen.
Procedure B (Establishing a Baseline) The amount of KMnO4 added to the solution is proportional
to the amount of hydrogen peroxide present in the solution.
Procedure C (Rate of Hydrogen Peroxide Spontaneous Decomposition) The amount of hydrogen
peroxide left after 24 hours of sitting out at room temperature will be less than the initial amount.
Procedure D (Rate of Hydrogen Peroxide Decomposition by Enzyme Catalysis) In the presence of
the catalase, hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) will decompose at a faster rate.

Many people want to have their own children, but what are other options? Adoption gets helpless
children out of the foster care system, but having their own child gives them a better connection.
Three reasons why parents should adopt is because it helps get kids out of foster care, adopted
families have all the same rights as families formed from birth, and adopting a child helps parents
start a family if they can t get pregnant. Although some people think that having their own child is
better, adoption is better because it gives children new and permanent homes, also it helps parents
start a family. Furthermore, adoption is a way for children who cannot be cared for by their birth
parents to become members of another family. There are two different types of adoption,
Domestic and International adoption. Domestic adoption is when a child is born in a country and
adopted in the same country. International adoption is when a child living in one country is
adopted by a family living in a different country. Through adoption, children s legal ties with their
birth parents are needed so they can begin a relationship approved by law with their adoptive
parents. (Adoption) Adoption helps provide children with new and permanent homes. Each year,
130,000 children are adopted, increasingly from other countries. (Adoption) As you can see many
children have benefitted from the adoption process, 130,000 children are now happy in

Superficiality And Significance Of Life In Joseph...
Lackluster Days In the passage from The Spectator, English satirist, Joseph Addison depicts
through a diarist the superficiality and insignificance of life in a bystander society created by
wealth. His satiric purposes is unveiled as through reading the diary of a bland man who is a
product of a privileged society he conveys the pettiness of the issues they are concerned with.
Throughout the passage it s shown that the diarist s society is no better than him as it s an
essential part of his insignificant life. This piece satirizes the superficiality and lackluster
carried in the bystander s life while looking at his daily routine and the minute details within his
diary. A tone of superficiality I carried out throughout the passage as the diarist reveals his
priorities as well as the issues his society deems of importance. Addison cultivates a tone in
which society is represented as lackluster and apathetic. Mr. Nisby accurately represents the
working class society. He used as a contrast of the society the diarist come from which is
ignorant and views issues such as the death of the Grand Vizier as another daily event which
holds no meaning for it doesn t affect him directly. An example of society s disregard to the
outside world is directed when a stranger asks the diarist for the stock prices. This shows how no
one cares about the Grand Vizier but only of the stock prices, as the stock prices affect their flow
of money which allows them to live this lackluster lifestyle they find comfort in. This goes to
show how the diarist employs a sense that the bystander society is selfish. Addison s passage
portrays society as ignorant and consumed in their daily affairs with no care about anyone or
anything unless it concern them. Addison s selection of minute detail employs that the diarist pays
much attention to his lackluster lifestyle and finds it important enough to be recorded. For
example his choice to focuses on insignificant details such as double soled shoes and nap broke by
the falling of a pewter dish implies the diarist cares too much about small things. This is immensely
satiric for the Grand Vizier, the prime minister of the Ottoman Empire, is dead but the diarist is too

today? What are some of the problems we face in our society today? In today s society we are
currently facing ten major issues according to toptenz.net and should these problems be
considered as individual or social responsibilities? Now that we are well into the new
Millennium society has begun to recognize serious concerns with issues that kids have to deal
with today. Some issues have always been there but are now coming to the eyes of the public to
find solutions. Other issues are new trends as society begins to adapt to a faster pace of life
(Standberry). Here are some of the issues facing our youth today: single parent households, drug
/alcohol abuse, growing up to fast, and violence in schools, materialism, obesity, education
disparity, shifting economy, and loss of national pride. So how do we fix just one of these
problems, do we come together for a common purpose or do we stand alone and try to make a
difference. This is a hard question to answer, and I believe that it takes society and individuals to
fix what is crumbling in our society. However, someone has to be willing to start. It is scary to
think of what our world will be like in fifteen years, especially if you are a parent who worries if
they are providing their children with the moral standards, social growth, and economical
opportunities that they could face in our society today. While it is hard to

The Process of DNA Replication Essay
The Process of DNA Replication
The process of DNA replication plays a crucial role in providing genetic continuity from one
generation to the next. Knowledge of the structure of DNA began with the discovery of nucleic
acids in 1869. In 1952, an accurate model of the DNA molecule was presented, thanks to the work
of Rosalind Franklin, James Watson, and Francis Crick. To reproduce, a cell must copy and
transmit its genetic information (DNA) to all of its progeny. To do so, DNA replicates following
the process of semi conservative replication. Two strands of DNA are obtained from one, having
produced two daughter molecules that are identical to one another and to the parent molecule. This
essay reviews the three stages ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Moreover, there are many enzymes that participate in the unwinding of the old strands of DNA
molecule such as topoisomerase. This enzyme is responsible for initiation of the unwinding of the
old strands of DNA molecule. Once supercoiling has been eliminated by the topoisomerase, helicase
accomplishes unwinding of the original double strand. In order to aid with the unwinding process,
DNA gyrase catalyzes the formation of negative supercoils. The unwound helix, with each strand
being synthesized into a new double helix, is called the replication fork.
The second stage of the process is complementary base pairing. In this stage, new complementary
nucleotides are positioned following the rules of complementary base pairing: adenine (A) to
thymine (T) and guanine (G) to cytosine (C). Then, the binding of free nucleotide with
complementary bases is catalyzed by DNA polymerase.
The last stage of the process, joining, involves bonding of complementary nucleotide to each other
so as to form new strands. The nucleotides are joined to one another by hydrogen bonds to form a
new DNA molecule. This joining continues until a new polynucleotide chain has been formed
alongside the old one, forming a new double helix molecule. This stage of the process also takes
place with the assistance of enzymes. The DNA polymerase links the complementary nucleotides

The Impact Of Hawala On The Middle East, North Africa,...
Hawala
Hawala is a money transferring system that s used in places such as the Middle East, North
Africa, South Asia, and the idea is that a group of money brokers (Hawala dealers) rely solely on
the honor system to transfer large amounts of money between two places, or people, without
raising any red flags when it comes to law enforcement. As you can imagine, criminals have been
able to take advantage of this system to escape traditional banking methods. Hawala is a method of
transferring money without any actual movement of money to an intended destination. Hawala is

To exchange banking transactions, each financial institution and bank must have a banking

C.H.I.P.S
C.H.I.P.S stands for Clearing House Interbank Payment System. It s a real time multilevel
payment system. CHIPS handle more than 95% of US dollar foreign exchange payments and
are subject to paper and electronic trail due to the fact that the money can be traced. In one day,
CHIPS settles 1.5 trillion dollars and currently CHIPS has a network of 50 Bank participants
worldwide. Here is an example of the working process for CHIPS: Client A purchases goods
from client B and client B requests for the payment. Therefore client A calls his bank and says I
need to pay 1 million dollars to client B , and he gives the bank 1 million dollars. Now, client A s
bank has to transfer 1 million dollars to client B s bank. How does client A s bank transfer the
money to client B s bank, you may ask? Well the answer is through CHIPS. CHIPS will open a
CHIPS account for each participant (client A and client B) and the CHIPS account consists of a
primary account and supplemental account. The primary account is a funding requirement for each
participant and the supplemental account is the account for the payment. In this case referring to
the example, client A s Bank will transfer the money into his CHIPS

The Apollo Conspiracy
There s an organization called NASA, who s done a significant job of sticking to their story. They
say Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin landed on the Moon on July 20, 1969, and set foot on the
surface 6 hours later. This same organization claims there were 5 additional missions which
successfully landed on the Moon, and a suspected total of 12 people went for a walk there.
According to them, they spent $24 billion, which is more than $150 billion in inflation adjusted
dollars. Their Apollo program employed 400,000 people, supported by more than 20,000 companies
and research institutions.

The Contributions Of The Endowment Effect Essay
The endowment effect has been a heavily studied subject since the 1980 s when it was first
described by Richard Thaler. This effect describes the phenomena where the buying and selling
prices of an object have major differences. The sellers tend to overvalue their object, requesting
higher prices than a buyer would be willing to pay. The buyers, on the other hand, demonstrate a
much lower maximum price. This discrepancy between buying and selling prices, dependent upon
the perspective of the person, is called the endowment effect. This effect has been connected to
many different cognitive mechanisms, but up until this point has not been studied from the
perspective of cognitive aging. The research in this paper will attempt to describe the endowment
effect, relevant research, potential cognitive mechanisms, and hypotheses relevant to age.
Theoretical Framework A major theory linked to the endowment effect is Tversky and Kahneman s
(1979) prospect theory. This theory provided new insight into the decision making process, and
went further than previous theory, the utility theory, to explain how decisions are made. Tversky
and Kahneman describe prospect theory as a decision between gains and losses, or prospect and
gambles as it is referred to in their 1979 paper. With every choice we make there are probabilities of
losing and probabilities of gaining. In terms of gaining, prospect theory states that people are risk
averse. This means that when there are certain options of

Posterior Ankle Impingement Essay
Posterior Ankle Impingement and Posterior Process With Rehab
Posterior ankle impingement is a condition that causes ankle pain and swelling at the back of the
ankle where the back of the shin bone (tibia) meets the top bone of the ankle (talus). It can happen
when soft tissue gets caught between these bones. Some people have an abnormal bone growth on
the back of the talus (os trigonum or posterior process). This can also become enlarged or swollen
and painful.
This condition is common in athletes who forcefully and repeatedly bend their foot downward
(plantar flexion) or push off their foot forcefully.
CAUSES
This condition can result from athletic activities that require you to get up on your toes or push off
your feet forcefully. These movements cause the back of the tibia and the top of the talus to come
together. Over time, this can cause swelling and irritation (inflammation).
RISK FACTORS
This condition is more likely to develop in:
People who have an os trigonum.
People who participate in certain sports, including:
в—‹ Ballet dancing.
в—‹ Track and field throwing sports, such as javelin and shot put.
в—‹ Trail running or cross country.
в—‹ Soccer.
в—‹ Football.
в—‹ Gymnastics.
SYMPTOMS
Symptoms of this condition include:
Pain behind the ankle that gets worse with plantar flexion.
Swelling at the back of the ankle.
Pain when pushing on the back of the ankle (tenderness).
Ankle stiffness.
DIAGNOSIS
This condition may be

The Idea of Just in Time Essay example
The Idea of Just in Time The idea of Just In Time originated in Japan. Actually this type of
inventory/production was originally known as the Toyota Production System . A man by the name
of Taiichi Ohno is credited as the person who first came up with this system. He looked at the
Western industries and found that the manufacturers would set up their manufacturing lines to
produce a large quantity of one product before stopping and and switching to a different product.
They also would order and stock an overabundance of inventory so that the right parts were always
on hand. Ohno did not feel that this would not work in a nation that demanded a smaller quantity
but a greater variety to its products. So he came up with an... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

However in Japan low demand meant that manufacturers faced price resistance, so if the selling
price is fixed how can one increase the profit mark up? Obviously by reducing costs and hence a
large focus of the system that Toyota implemented was to do with cost reduction. To aid in cost
reduction Toyota instituted production levelling eliminating unevenness in the flow of items. So
if a component which required assembly had an associated requirement of 100 during a 25 day
working month then 4 were assembled per day, one every two hours in an eight hour working
day. Levelling was also applied to the flow of finished goods out of the factory and to the flow of
raw materials into the factory. Toyota changed their factory layout. Previously all machines of the
same type, e.g. presses, were together in the same area of the factory. This meant that items had to
be transported back and forth as they needed processing on different machines. To eliminate this
transportation different machines were clustered together so items could move smoothly from one
machine to another as they were processed. This meant that workers had to become skilled on more
than one machine previously workers were skilled at operating just one type of machine. Although
this initially met resistance from the workforce it was eventually

Lodz Ghetto Thesis
LODZ GHETTO
The Lodz Ghetto was located in Poland. During its time throughout the events of World War II, it
was the second largest concentration camp in construction, only to Auschwitz Birkenau located in
southern Poland and opened up in 1940. We also saw the railroad tracks that were at the
concentration camp during the tour at the Holocaust museum. The Lodz Ghetto was started one
week after capture on the date of September 14th, 1939. It was as well one of the first camps to be
started under Germanic reign during World War II as well. Over 160,000 Jewswere stuffed into to
the poorly sanitized area. On November 7, 1939, Lodz was incorporated into the Third Reich and
the Nazi s changed its name to Litzmannstadt, named after a German general who died while
attempting to conquer Lodz in World War I.
The next several months were marked by daily round ups of Jews for forced labor as well as
random beatings and killings on the streets. It was easy to distinguish between Pole and Jew
because on November 16, 1939 the Nazi s had ordered Jews to wear an armband on their right arm.
The armband was the precursor to the Star Of David which was soon to follow on December 12,
1939. On December 10th, 1939, the Govenor of the Lodz area Friedrich Übelhör. He wrote a

Bizzozero Staining Procedure
An experiment Evaluating whether PCNA supports the classification of Bizzozero (1894) tissues
tissues placed in three categories, reflecting their replicative potential.
Introduction
The aim of this experiment was to utilise PCNA and staining procedures to determine whether
different tissue cell samples proliferate. Tissue which exhibited brown stains prove cell
proliferation and mitotic divisions, this would suggest it being the in the first group of Bizzozero s
grouping of tissue types. Tissue samples which showed no brown staining meant no cells had
proliferated and therefore were of a different tissue type that do not regenerate while present in the
body. The PCNA proteinis present during cell division/mitosis therefore, its presence suggests that
cell proliferation is occurring or has occurred. An area can be stained using brown
diaminobenzidine (DAB) by using an antibody that is against the PCNA protein. A primary
antibody then attaches to the PCNA molecule, and a secondary antibody (horse radish peroxidase)
attaches to the primary antibody. A... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Tissue sample B showing no brown staining visible:
Tissue sample C showing minimal brown staining:
Conclusion
The three different tissue types exhibit differing levels of cell replication. Proliferation did not
take place in tissue sample A compared to Tissue sample b having very minimal cell proliferation.
The experiment conducted supports Bizzozero s 1894 article which illustrates that based on where
the cells originate from, the cell proliferation will differ.
References
This experiment supports Bizzozero s (1894) claims of there being three different groups of
tissues, based on its proliferation rate. Bizzozero G (1894) British Medical Journal i (728 732.

Essay about Julia s Food Booth
Julia s Food Booth
Julia Robertson is a senior at Tech, and she s investigating different ways to finance her final
year at school. She is considering leasing a food booth outside the Tech stadium at home football
games. Tech sells out every home game, and Julia knows, from attending the games herself, that
everyone eats a lot of food. She has to pay $1,000 per game for a booth, and the booths are not
very large. Vendors can sell either food or drinks on Tech property, but not both. Only the Tech
athletic department concession stands can sell both inside the stadium. She thinks slices of cheese
pizza, hot dogs, and barbecue sandwiches are the most popular food items among fans and so these
are the items she would sell.

From this she has discovered that she can expect to sell at least as many slices of pizza as hot
dogs and barbecue sandwiches combined. She also anticipates that she will probably sell at least
twice as many hot dogs as barbecue sandwiches. She believes that she will sell everything she can
stock and develop a customer base for the season if she follows these general guidelines for demand.
If Julia clears at least $1,000 in profit for each game after paying all her expenses, she believes it
will be worth leasing the booth.

In some cases small positive changes are all that are necessary to initiate a solution for a successful
outcome.
SFBT works in the present therefore problem free dialog allows a session which is forward
looking and future orientated. It strives to help the client envisage a time when the problem is
manageable or no longer exists, when the client is no longer stuck . It is an endlessly optimistic
approach as the future has numerous possibilities for positive change.
The Miracle Question, which a serious of three exercises which can be used in the first session
with clients, is away for the counsellor to introduce the client to a problem free future with the
client demonstrating what changes can be envisaged. The miracle question can be asked in various
formulations. Whatever wording and phrasing is most appropriate for your client is used.
The Miracle Question is future orientated and asks the client to envisage a time free from any
issue, thus allowing the client a glimpse of their life without that particular problem. It is
extremely useful for a client whose goals are indistinguishable as it can elucidate where they want
to be. The follow up questions are designed to give the client a glimpse of their possible problem
free future and emphasises the positive changes to themselves their environment and relationship
with others. It is these questions which will reinforce the client s positive goals. As Burwell

Organizational Behavior And Its Effect On Work Performance...
1.INTRODUCTION In a period when commerce is constantly changing at a growing pace, the
need for firms to adapt to or even influence this evolution is at an all time high. That is, businesses
must learn to engage in a continuous renewal of themselves while maintaining their structural
integrity (Anderson, 1990 cited in Hunter, 2002). This is because people s sense of identity has
developed which, consequently, has had an effect on work performance. Further, managing
individuals with different identities is made more complex by the increase in diversity or the
demand for it in organizations due to globalization and rising social awareness. It is, therefore,
becoming increasingly important for corporate leaders to have a good grasp of organizational
behavior and use it to their company s advantage. 2.STRUCTURE 2.1.Restructuring at CondГ©
Nast Within any organization, the formal division, grouping and coordination of job tasks,
otherwise known as its structure, must complement its goals and objectives to move forward
effectively (Robbins and Judge, 2013; Mullins, 2016). For instance, publishing company CondГ©
Nast, well known for its brands such as Vogue, Vanity Fair, Glamour, Brides, Self, GQ, The New
Yorker, Teen Vogue etc. (CondГ© Nast, n.d.a), is currently undergoing a restructuring phase. As
society advances towards a more digital age, the publishing industry must become familiar with the
utilization of electronic media to complement their printed ones (Tarkiainen et al,

Scientific Paradigm
In social science, a scientific paradigm refers to a framework of the mostly accepted views
about a certain subject and its research should resume and how it should be done. There is what
is known as conflict paradigm which states that there are two major social groups. These social
groups are the ruling class and the subject class. It further states that the subject class is being
ruled and oppressed by the ruling class. This has led to a conflict of interest between the two
classes. The legal and political institutions are dominated by the ruling class and always look at
advancing its interest. This conflict paradigm makes us view social behavior in one way but
another paradigm known as interactionist makes us view it at a different angle (Miguel 2014).
Natural scientists have a belief that moving from one paradigm to another indicates progress from
false to a true view. Paradigm gains or loses popularity in social sciences but are discharged
together seldom.
There are differences between social science paradigm and several other differences between the
macro and micro level theories of social sciences. Micro level focuses on individuals and their
interactions. A good example is the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

  • 2. Essay about Chemical Warfare The images are haunting: soldiers in gas masks rapid firing through dusky vapours, people contorted with a pain that comes from within. Chemical warfare has long been acknowledged as a devastating tactical weapon, but the origin of this impression is now being debated. While it is a common held belief that chemical warfareis a form of modern warfare and that the First World War is recognised for introducing this type of combat, recent archaeological finds show this may prove otherwise. According to accepted definitions of chemical warfare, newly discovered battle tactics used by humanity s ancestors may not be so different from those of modern warfare. In the opposite way, while advancements in science have aided in making chemical... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Historians consider the use of poison on arrowheads as the beginning of humanity s foray into this type of tactical warfare. (WIFA. 2005) Toxic substances became the predominant form of chemical warfare in the ancient world, and it was common for attacking armies to poison the water supply of besieged cities or use other poison methods to silently dispose of their enemies. However, poison was only the beginning of modern tactics used in the ancient world. By 429 B.C., toxic fumes made up of sulphur were recorded as used in battle. (WIFA. 2005) Most interestingly though, is what has come to light in recent archaeological investigations. Credited as the oldest ... evidence for chemical warfare (Syed, 2009), the discovery of twenty Roman soldiers in the city of Dura Europos, circa AD 256, at first puzzled archaeologists (Syed, 2009). While each soldier had apparently died in combat, they bore no marks to suggest violence was the cause and it was not until the unearthing of bitumen and sulphur crystals nearby that asphyxiation was considered (University of Leicester, 2009). When bitumen and sulphur are burned together, they create dense clouds of choking gasses (University of Leicester, 2009), meaning that this discovery is the oldest found form of choking agents. More proof of chemical warfare s early beginnings lies with the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Chesapeake Life History Between 1813 and 1962, steamboats ruled the Chesapeake Bay, reflected in a fascinating and important era, in which trade and travel were made more convenient with steamers that linked parts of Maryland and Virginia, with distant and isolated rural communities along the Eastern Shore, in particular, including Piankatank River and Occohannock Creek in Virginia, Hudson Creek off the Little Choptank River in Maryland, Bushwood, and Rock Point It made possible access to certain goods and services typically unavailable east of the Bay, along with opportunities for leisure and entertainment. There were various types of steamboats on the Chesapeake Bay, all serving a specific function. The packet steamboats were the most common, were medium sized and fast, and transported passengers, freight and domestic mail. The rural areas and the city were made accessible with a large fleet of smaller vessels steam ferries, while excursion steamers or showboats were more elaborate, colorful and beautifully decorated made drop offs at popular resorts on the Bay, including Tolchester and Betterton in Kent County. • 4. Racist Language In Literature Racist language within literature is largely controversial, but there are benefits and drawbacks of using such language within literature. Using racially charged language depicts the historical time and mindset of people living within a certain time period. Furthermore, it allows readers a chance to learn about their own culture from the use of racially insensitive language. Though there are benefits to using such language, there are consequently some drawbacks to allowing the use of such language. One of the primary drawbacks of allowing the use of racially insensitive language within literature is that it normalizes the use of such language within the current culture. The Things They Carried often uses racially insensitive language throughout the story. This language often comes from the American military and is directed against the Vietnamese. The guy was a little crazy, for sure, but crazy in a good way, a real daredevil, because he liked the challenge of it, he liked testing himself, just man against gook (O Brien 44). While this racial slur is extremely offensive and problematic, it is acceptable to use in the context that this literature is based in because it is striving to accurately depict a historical time period and the mindset of people living during that time. Furthermore, the use of this type of language within literature exposes the stains and issues within one s own culture; especially those of European descent or who classify themselves as Caucasian. ... • 5. Essay On 1960s Fashion The 1960s were an age of fashion innovation for women. The ( 1960s In Western Fashion ) article stated. Which is completely true, since the 60 s helped develop a new path of modern fashion for today s world. In the 60 s people were finally more open to being more bold with their clothing chooses instead of being like the norm, everyone basically did their own thing.Fashionin the 1960 s changed the way the people think of and wear Fashion today. Without the 60 s outbreak of bright and colorful fashion we might of still have plain boring clothes. Before the 60 s fashion really wasn t all that. Most of the styles were dull and boring but once teens started trying to dress different from their parents it all changed. To begin, It s almost like the 1950s bottled everyone up so much that the late 1960sexploded like an old pressure cooker. Women were showing more skin than ever before. ( 1960s Fashion: Styles, Trends, Pictures History. ). This explains, how no women in the 50 s or before really were told showing lots of skin was okay until the 60 s. When all of a sudden ladies started showing lots of skin people were shocked. Back then mostly everyone was taught to not show a lot. Just like swimsuits were always a one piece so your stomach didn t show, but in the 60 s it was many women in bikinis or tankinis sunbathing at the beach. In Addition, during the 60 s just like today most of the newer fashion was focused towards young adults or teens. • 6. Analysis Of Newton Raphson Load Flow Method With Wind Power 5.1 Review Li et.al[5] suggested Newton Raphson load flow method with wind power. Asynchronous and double fed induction generator were explained in detail and accordingly Jacobian matrices were suggested. An IEEE 5 bus system was used for case study which proved that the new NR method had a good convergence hence could be used for calculations for large grid with wind power. Steady state equivalent circuit for AG and DFIG were also discussed in the paper. Feijoo et.al [6] proposed two methods for simulation of wind farms with asynchronous generators for load flow analysis which were based on steady state model of induction machine. In the first model wind generator was modelled as a PQ bus with real power and power factor known and reactive power was calculated. Some improvement in steady state model of induction machine was done. In the second model an RX model was used which involved modelling the generators in steady state in the bus where the wind farm was located. 1.1 General Rapid consumption of non renewable fossil fuels as sources of energy has lead to depletion of these resources. So the price of petroleum resource has increased in the international market. A growing concern over their environmental effects has lead to research and development in the area of renewable energy to find an alternative source of energy for future. Wind energy which possesses the highest power density amongst various renewable energy sources, is one such source. [27]. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. The Yasukuni Shrine and the Rise of Japan The Yasukuni Shrine and the Rise of Japan s New Nationalism The Yasukuni Shrine is a Shinto shrine established in 1869 in Tokyo. It was constructed in order to honor and worship the soldiers who have died for their country in the Boshin Civil War that brought about the Meiji restoration and sacrificed their lives in the service of their emperor to build a firm foundation for Japan to become a truly peaceful country. For some Asian countries such as China and South Korea, which had been victims under Japanese imperialism and aggression in the first half of the 20th century, the shrine was built to commemorate Japanese war criminals in the World War II, and it has become a blatant symbol for Japanese wartime militarism from the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For the leftist and liberals, the Rape of Nanking is a key symbol of cruel Japanese militarism. They used the sympathy for civilian casualties to substantiate Article 9 of the constitution, which is essential to avoid another Nanking Massacre and to prevent Japan from waging wars in the future, and they viewed that the presence of Yasukuni proves the resurgence of Japanese militarism and the continual existence of feudalism in modern Japanese society. However, the rightist conservative camp in Japan is rising to prominence on a wave of patriotic assertiveness, and their influence is evident in the rewriting of Japanese textbooks to deny imperial Japan s conquest in China. Therefore, in addition to its militaristic history and ideology chasm between political camps, the symbolism of Yasukuni adds external political pressure on Japanese government to re examine the articulation of its wartime past. Not only does the Yasukuni controversy generated disapproval from Japan s Asian neighbors, it also created domestic debate between the leftist and rightist political groups in Japan. In contrast to the Japanese leftist, the Chinese, and the Korean, the prime minister s shrine visits are supported by right wing nationalists, who form a significant core component of the support base of the Liberal Democratic Party and dominates ... • 8. The Role of Spirituality in Health Care Essay Spiritual Assessment Grand Canyon University: HLT 310 January 20, 2013 Spirituality is a delicate topic, and some may not be open to talking about their beliefs. Spirituality is generally understood to be an essential aspect of being human (Lyndo Lam, 2012). Assessing the spiritual needs of patients is a key component in the nursing process. A compassionate and thoughtful nurse can make a patient feel more secure, making it easier for him to express his spirituality. The participation of both patient and health care provideris vital in promoting spiritual health. The main focus of a spiritual assessment is to gather information regarding the patient s spiritual needs in order incorporate them into the plan of care, so as to treat ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Patient strongly believes that faith plays an important part in his health, but he knows that he could also do much more for himself in order to improve his health. Mr. Ferrell quotes, I can t expect God to help me if I don t help myself (Ferrel, 2013). Praying and honoring God does fullfil his spiritual needs but it does not magically improve his health. He mentioned that his weakness is food and as a result he struggles with his diabetic and renal diets; eating healthier could improve the patient s health. Mr. Ferrell believes and knows that he needs to treat his body better as God has been so merciful with him and considers his eating habits a sin. As a retired man, he finds time to do many Church activities that benefit both the community and himself. He likes doing community services as it helps release some stress caused by his illness. Being involved in Church has taken him to Jerusalem, which to him was the most wonderful experience. Traveling has played an important role for him but cannot do so often due to his dependency of a machine to clean his blood. What went well The patient was able to express himself openly; no questions were skipped or left blank. Explaining the reason and the importance of performing this spiritual assessment helped build rapport and trust with the patient easily. Also, getting some insight into his spiritual needs made the connection between nurse and patient stronger. What would you do differently in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

She shakes her chest and hips and twirls in circles, causing her dress to be uplifted from below the knees to her waist. There is no sound, nor any music which can be heard. Barnum s circus (Davis 83). Women performers proudly displayed rippling bodies while demonstrating impressive feats of strength and handling dangerous animals. Most importantly, the circus was a comfortable space for women who felt alienated by social norms. In an era when a majority of women s roles were still circumscribed by Victorian ideals of domesticity and feminine propriety, circum women s performances celebrated female power, thereby representing a startling alternative to social norms. In their elaborate advertising campaigns, proprietors used gender, race, class, and representations of empire to create an irresistible sexual striptease under the guise of clean family entertainment Since American women generally wore full skirts and long sleeved shirtwaists at this time, virtually anything short of that coverage should be constructed as nude, including the wearing of leotards, tights, or dresses above the knee. Showmen s constant emphasis on female performers lives, loves and body hugging tights became yet another way to talk about sex (Davis 85). Antebellum circus audience members targeted circus women as disreputable. Most objections centered on costuming. Although tights and leotards were not worn until after the Civil War, antebellum payers wore stockings under knee length skirts a far cry from the proper, long sleeved, floor length dress of the period. Purity reformers and audiences both frequently thought that all female entertainers were prostitutes because they exposed their bodies for pay. Even audience members were often treated with suspicion. During the first half of the nineteenth century, American theater managers commonly reserved the third tier of seats, or upper gallery, for prostitutes and their customers as a site of sexual exchange (Davis 86). The wild hog population is currently exploding. These animals get up to 400 pounds with 6 in long razor sharp teeth. They also have a thick hide and a armor like plating called a shield around their chest area. They are destroying Americas agriculture industry as well as peoples property. In the 1930 s owners of ranches introduced Russian boars to be shot in game preserves. These Russian boars grow much larger, are more aggressive and have larger, sharper teeth. This project will discuss nuclear weapons technology and its impact on the Treaty on the Nonproliferation of Nuclear Weapons, also known as the NPT (Nonproliferation Treaty). The Treaty covers three main pillars: disarmament, nonproliferation, and peaceful uses of nuclear energy. It was signed in 1968 due to concern that the safety of the planet was at risk by having a high number of nuclear weaponstates. After the United States bombed the cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki using vastly destructive nuclear fission bombs, it became apparent that the States and possibly other countries could divert resources towards weapons rather than peaceful uses of nuclear energy. Thus, nuclear weaponry prompted the creation of the Treaty. Since the development of the first nuclear weapons technology by the Manhattan Project of the United States in 1945, nuclear proliferation has been a major global concern. The Manhattan Project was an undertaking involving the development of nuclear fission bombs, also known as atom bombs. Atom bombs use a hollow bullet of enriched uranium shot into a target made of the same element, initiating a nuclear chain reaction that releases vast amounts of energy. The bombs created by the Manhattan Project were called Little Boy and Fat Man, and were used on the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, respectively. This effectively ended World War II in 1945 after Japan was forced to surrender, but it also caused the deaths of hundreds of thousands of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 18. The Three Major Correctional Reformers Of the three major correctional reformers, I believe that Cesare Beccaria accomplished the most for corrections. Cesare Beccaria emphasized that the use of punishment for crimes was used solely for the purpose of protecting society and preventing crime. This is extremely important, because in the past, individuals were using punishment as a means of revenge, but Cesare changed this idea. Cesare s ideas eventually led to creation of classical criminology, and this alone helped to pave the road to ending unjustifiable punishments and inhumane treatment. Classical criminology contained six principles, and all of these principles emphasized the importance of using punishment to promote deterrence and prevention. Within these principles Cesare explains that prevention is more important than anything. This idea led to major reforms, including getting secret accusations and torturing of individuals abolished. That was not all, however, Cesare saw that the accused were not being given the benefit of the doubt, hence the torturing of individuals to get confessions that may or may not be true. He decided that the accused should have the right to a speedy trial, also humane treatment before the trial, and finally, the right to bring forward any evidence they may have on their behalf. This ultimately gave the accused a voice that they never had. Today, we see the idea of a speedy trial within our Constitution, along with other laws promoting fairness for those who have been accused. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I call it a three prong approach. Marshall helps strip the segregation law. King shows the country how it treats its minority citizens. And President Kennedy was ready to sign into law the civil rights bill. The civil rights movement was a political movement created by civil resistance with the goal of change using nonviolent forms of resistance. According to Adamson , civil rights refer to the rights of a citizen to political and social freedom and equality. The birth of the modern civil rights movement was greatly influenced, by the agitation of the African Americans for equal rights and abolishment of the segregation laws. The main goal of the civil rights movement was to ensure that equal rights of the people, would be protected, by law. This movement redefines the idea of what it meant to be free in America. Faced with racial discrimination, social prejudice and poor services, the minority groups realized that they had to fight for their rights. • 21. Somnambulism In Macbeth If the tragedy was to be read in the light of modern psychopathology the interpretation will be found that Lady Macbeth is an accurate example of portraying the disease hysteria. It has been demonstrated that there is a rigid determinism in the mental world and that psychophysical processes are the result of a certain chain of causation of either conscious or unconscious. It has been repeatedly demonstrated that the resistance offered by the memory of emotional experience may sometimes be so great that it produces a dissociation or splitting of consciousness. Somnambulism is one of the most marked forms of splitting of consciousness that is most liable to occur in the disease hysteria, which is a form of mental dissociation. Characteristics of somnambulism are that images are clearly represented and the subject seems to see and hear everything. In each somnambulistic state the subject repeats the same words and makes the same gestures as in the original experience which was responsible for the cause of the somnambulistic state (Pierre). Somnambulism may assume various types of sleep walking or it may develop to such a high degree that the subjects may wander in strange places for hours or days, and lose memory of their real personality. • 22. Proven Guilty Regarding whether the defendant CJ can be charged with Murder , depends on several different factors. In front of the law CJ is not legally able to be charged with criminal responsibility, being only thirteen and not above fourteen years of age. Thus, in this situation, Doli Incapax acts as a rebuttable presumption. This essentially means that because of CJs age, his behaviour is under the context of being incapable or unable to form an intent to commit a crime . Nevertheless, an assumption is made by a court that CJ is innocent until proven guilty . This statement is valid, unless and until the other party strongly contests the decision, and proves otherwise. Rebuttable presumptions are regularly linked with Prima Facie evidence, which involves evidence that is set before the trial. This kind of proof is extremely important, as it needs to sufficiently prove the defendant s claim, unless there is substantial inconsistent evidence presented at trial favouring the prosecutor. As the Children law states, the test for Doli Incapax involves prosecution must rebut the presumption of doli incapax as an element of the prosecution case, the child knew the act was seriously wrong as opposed to naughty, and the evidence relied upon by the prosecution must be strong and clear beyond all... Merriam Webster dictionary defines tragedy as a serious drama typically describing a conflict between the protagonist and a superior force, such as destiny, and having a sorrowful or disastrous conclusion that elicits pity or terror. Two such examples of literary tragedies are Oedipus the King by Sophocles and Death of a Salesman by Arthur Miller. Although written over 2000 years apart, there are many similarities between the two literary works, but with varying degrees of differences as well. Some of the key areas to be examined when making this comparison are: the social status of the main characters, the psychological mindsets the characters are in, their respective lack of self awareness, whether their fate was deserved or not, and the main fatal flaw of each main character. Let s begin by first examining the social status of the two main characters from each literary selection. In Oedipus the King by Sophocles, the main character is, of course, Oedipus. As the story unfolds, we find that Oedipus has been plagued by the prophecy that said he should lie with his own mother and be his father s murderer (Sophocles, 385). Oedipus, in trying to break this prophecy, flees from the city to escape this fate. However, unbeknownst to Oedipus, he was actually born in Thebes and not in the city of Corinth as he originally believed. So, instead of escaping the city and the fate of the ... It was important that it developed along a river such as the Nile because it provided water for agriculture and drinking, which were necessary for survival in a permanent settlement or civilization. South of Egyptwas the civilization of Nubia, or Kush. This was important to Egypt s culture because the back and forth conquering of each other that went on led to the integration of one another s culture. Egypt adopted Nubian traditions and vice versa. It is based on the following core principles. In certain instances particular types of accountants that deviate from these principles can be held liable. The Business Entity Concept The business entity concept provides that the accounting for a business or organization be kept separate from the personal affairs of its owner, or from any other business or organization. This means that the owner of a business should not place any personal assets on the business balance sheet. The balance sheet of the business must reflect the financial position of the business alone. Also, when transactions of the business are recorded, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If this is not done, the financial statements will not measure the results of operations fairly. The Cost Principle The cost principle states that the accounting for purchases must be at their cost price. This is the figure that appears on the source document for the transaction in almost all cases. There is no place for guesswork or wishful thinking when accounting for purchases. The value recorded in the accounts for an asset is not changed until later if the market value of the asset changes. It would take an entirely new transaction based on new objective evidence to change the original value of an asset. There are times when the above type of objective evidence is not available. For example, a building could be received as a gift. In such a case, the transaction would be recorded at fair market value which must be determined by some independent means. The Consistency Principle The consistency principle requires accountants to apply the same methods and procedures from period to period. When they change a method from one period to another they must explain the change clearly on the financial statements. The readers of financial statements have the right to assume that consistency has been applied if there is no statement to the contrary. The consistency principle prevents people from changing methods for the sole purpose of manipulating figures on the financial statements. And the Commonwealth V. Hunt court case ruled they were not allowed to do that unless they had been caught red handed or had raw evidence. They also had many campaigns that were to help the workers in the factories. The first campaign was at corporation hospital where Roger helped for a well organized, influential anti union organizing committee (Penny 91) . At first the court thought of the campaigns of just people trying to get what they wanted and it was never going to work but after they saw many people really putting in the effort to get what they want it really made people think like maybe we are treating these people badly and they want change. • 31. Arabian Nights Characters Analysis The frame story of The Arabian Nights is set up with the kings encounters with their wives and the demon s woman. Linked by the emphasis on promiscuity as a shared characteristic of all the women concerned, and structurally by the repetition of the act of betrayal and the humiliation of men, the message is clear: womans sexuality and promiscuity can not be controlled. Opening with the story of King Shahrayar and Shahrazad and their wives, we are first introduced to the themes of betrayal and the promiscuity of women. Here are two kings living in different cities, far from each other, experience similar circumstances. Their women, having betrayed them, make love to their slaves once King Shahrayar and Shahrazad are gone. This is the first sign of the king s changing their perspective on women and both acting rashly on their own feelings. How will it be and what will happen behind my back when I go to visit my brother in India? No. Women are not to be trusted. He got exceedingly angry, adding, By God,I am king and sovereign in Samarkand, yet my wife has betrayed me and has inflicted this on me. As his anger boiled, he drew his sword and struck both his wife and cook. Then he dragged them by the heels and threw them from the top of the palace to the trench below. (pg 6) As seen through both King Sharhrazard words of Women are not to be trusted. and actions of murdering his wife and cook that these action, although seemingly justified, are rash and are based on their ... Brutality Of Comanche Indians VanBuskirk 1 Kamren VanBuskirk Professor Kelly LaFramboise Anthropology 1113 1 December, 2016 The Brutality of the Comanche Indians I argue that the Comanche Indian people were some of the most brutal and cruel of the native American Indian tribes. The very name Comanche means People who fight us all the time . The word Comanche struck fear in the hearts those on the Texas frontier. The Comanche were famous for the raids they went on, and were feared by many of the settlers. Fighting was a large part of their lives. Warfare played a crucial role in the lives of the Comanche. Also, since the Comanche were so know to commit these acts, almost any violent act was blamed on them. They may not have even committed some of the acts that they were accused of doing. Some have even suggested that whites invented stories to get people to go after the Comanche. One such instance may have been the Matilda Lockhart story at the council house fight in San Antonio in 1840. A Comanche band was supposed to be bringing all of its white captive, but they only showed up with one, Matilda Lockhart, a teenage girl. The story goes that she was horribly disfigured and mutilated, and her nose had been burned off her face. She told of other prisoners, so the officials were going to gold the peace council of Indians hostage until the others arrived. A fight broke out, and when it was all said and done, over 30 Indians were killed. The Indians were then said to torture and burn all of the captives they had to death, including young children. Our nation has prided itself upon its legacy of liberty, as well as the many opportunities it has been able to provide for its citizens. And yet our government has been continuously denying us one very important freedom that all in America should have, the freedom of school choice. You would think that more people would be concerned with this infringement upon human rights. While our government is striving to give more freedom to homosexuals who desire marriage and to women who do not want to deal with the human being that they helped to create, it is ignoring or suppressing the cries for liberty from those who desire the religious freedom to educate their children in the way they believe they should be educated. Because of the support that the government gives public schools using taxdollars and government subsidies, parents find it too difficult financially to place their children in religious private schools, secular private schools, or even charter schools. Also, the government has arranged public schools in such a way as to make it difficult for parents to put their children in a school that meets their standards of education. Many public schools are dropping their academic standards as well as losing their ethical standards altogether. Thus many parents do not want to put their children in a school where they do not ... • 38. Adoption, Domestic And International Adoption Essay Melissa Bannon Mrs. Munsie College Writting 12 14 16 Many people want to have their own children, but what are other options? Adoption gets helpless children out of the foster care system, but having their own child gives them a better connection. Three reasons why parents should adopt is because it helps get kids out of foster care, adopted families have all the same rights as families formed from birth, and adopting a child helps parents start a family if they can t get pregnant. Although some people think that having their own child is better, adoption is better because it gives children new and permanent homes, also it helps parents start a family. Furthermore, adoption is a way for children who cannot be cared for by their birth parents to become members of another family. There are two different types of adoption, Domestic and International adoption. Domestic adoption is when a child is born in a country and adopted in the same country. International adoption is when a child living in one country is adopted by a family living in a different country. Through adoption, children s legal ties with their birth parents are needed so they can begin a relationship approved by law with their adoptive parents. (Adoption) Adoption helps provide children with new and permanent homes. Each year, 130,000 children are adopted, increasingly from other countries. • 39. Superficiality And Significance Of Life In Joseph... Lackluster Days In the passage from The Spectator, English satirist, Joseph Addison depicts through a diarist the superficiality and insignificance of life in a bystander society created by wealth. His satiric purposes is unveiled as through reading the diary of a bland man who is a product of a privileged society he conveys the pettiness of the issues they are concerned with. Throughout the passage it s shown that the diarist s society is no better than him as it s an essential part of his insignificant life. This piece satirizes the superficiality and lackluster carried in the bystander s life while looking at his daily routine and the minute details within his diary. A tone of superficiality I carried out throughout the passage as the diarist reveals his priorities as well as the issues his society deems of importance. Addison cultivates a tone in which society is represented as lackluster and apathetic. Mr. Nisby accurately represents the working class society. He used as a contrast of the society the diarist come from which is ignorant and views issues such as the death of the Grand Vizier as another daily event which holds no meaning for it doesn t affect him directly. An example of society s disregard to the outside world is directed when a stranger asks the diarist for the stock prices. This shows how no one cares about the Grand Vizier but only of the stock prices, as the stock prices affect their flow of money which allows them to live this lackluster lifestyle they find comfort in. This goes to show how the diarist employs a sense that the bystander society is selfish. Addison s passage portrays society as ignorant and consumed in their daily affairs with no care about anyone or anything unless it concern them. Addison s selection of minute detail employs that the diarist pays much attention to his lackluster lifestyle and finds it important enough to be recorded. For example his choice to focuses on insignificant details such as double soled shoes and nap broke by the falling of a pewter dish implies the diarist cares too much about small things. This is immensely satiric for the Grand Vizier, the prime minister of the Ottoman Empire, is dead but the diarist is too wrapped up with ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Knowledge of the structure of DNA began with the discovery of nucleic acids in 1869. In 1952, an accurate model of the DNA molecule was presented, thanks to the work of Rosalind Franklin, James Watson, and Francis Crick. To reproduce, a cell must copy and transmit its genetic information (DNA) to all of its progeny. To do so, DNA replicates following the process of semi conservative replication. Two strands of DNA are obtained from one, having produced two daughter molecules that are identical to one another and to the parent molecule. This essay reviews the three stages ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Moreover, there are many enzymes that participate in the unwinding of the old strands of DNA molecule such as topoisomerase. This enzyme is responsible for initiation of the unwinding of the old strands of DNA molecule. Once supercoiling has been eliminated by the topoisomerase, helicase accomplishes unwinding of the original double strand. In order to aid with the unwinding process, DNA gyrase catalyzes the formation of negative supercoils. The unwound helix, with each strand being synthesized into a new double helix, is called the replication fork. The second stage of the process is complementary base pairing. In this stage, new complementary nucleotides are positioned following the rules of complementary base pairing: adenine (A) to thymine (T) and guanine (G) to cytosine (C). Then, the binding of free nucleotide with complementary bases is catalyzed by DNA polymerase. The last stage of the process, joining, involves bonding of complementary nucleotide to each other so as to form new strands. The nucleotides are joined to one another by hydrogen bonds to form a new DNA molecule. This joining continues until a new polynucleotide chain has been formed alongside the old one, forming a new double helix molecule. This stage of the process also takes place with the assistance of enzymes. The DNA polymerase links the complementary nucleotides ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 45. The Contributions Of The Endowment Effect Essay The endowment effect has been a heavily studied subject since the 1980 s when it was first described by Richard Thaler. This effect describes the phenomena where the buying and selling prices of an object have major differences. The sellers tend to overvalue their object, requesting higher prices than a buyer would be willing to pay. The buyers, on the other hand, demonstrate a much lower maximum price. This discrepancy between buying and selling prices, dependent upon the perspective of the person, is called the endowment effect. This effect has been connected to many different cognitive mechanisms, but up until this point has not been studied from the perspective of cognitive aging. The research in this paper will attempt to describe the endowment effect, relevant research, potential cognitive mechanisms, and hypotheses relevant to age. Theoretical Framework A major theory linked to the endowment effect is Tversky and Kahneman s (1979) prospect theory. This theory provided new insight into the decision making process, and went further than previous theory, the utility theory, to explain how decisions are made. Tversky and Kahneman describe prospect theory as a decision between gains and losses, or prospect and gambles as it is referred to in their 1979 paper. With every choice we make there are probabilities of losing and probabilities of gaining. In terms of gaining, prospect theory states that people are risk averse. He looked at the Western industries and found that the manufacturers would set up their manufacturing lines to produce a large quantity of one product before stopping and and switching to a different product. However in Japan low demand meant that manufacturers faced price resistance, so if the selling price is fixed how can one increase the profit mark up? Obviously by reducing costs and hence a large focus of the system that Toyota implemented was to do with cost reduction. To aid in cost reduction Toyota instituted production levelling eliminating unevenness in the flow of items. So if a component which required assembly had an associated requirement of 100 during a 25 day working month then 4 were assembled per day, one every two hours in an eight hour working day. Levelling was also applied to the flow of finished goods out of the factory and to the flow of raw materials into the factory. Toyota changed their factory layout. Previously all machines of the same type, e.g. presses, were together in the same area of the factory. This meant that items had to be transported back and forth as they needed processing on different machines. To eliminate this transportation different machines were clustered together so items could move smoothly from one machine to another as they were processed. Bizzozero Staining Procedure An experiment Evaluating whether PCNA supports the classification of Bizzozero (1894) tissues tissues placed in three categories, reflecting their replicative potential. Introduction The aim of this experiment was to utilise PCNA and staining procedures to determine whether different tissue cell samples proliferate. Tissue which exhibited brown stains prove cell proliferation and mitotic divisions, this would suggest it being the in the first group of Bizzozero s grouping of tissue types. Tissue samples which showed no brown staining meant no cells had proliferated and therefore were of a different tissue type that do not regenerate while present in the body. The PCNA proteinis present during cell division/mitosis therefore, its presence suggests that cell proliferation is occurring or has occurred. The legal and political institutions are dominated by the ruling class and always look at advancing its interest. This conflict paradigm makes us view social behavior in one way but another paradigm known as interactionist makes us view it at a different angle (Miguel 2014). Natural scientists have a belief that moving from one paradigm to another indicates progress from false to a true view. Paradigm gains or loses popularity in social sciences but are discharged together seldom.
