David Lewis Ability Theory
If physicalism is true, Mary knows all there is to know, and hence her knowledge is complete. When
Mary steps out of the room and sees a red tomato, she learns about what it is like to see a red tomato.
Since Mary knows all the physical facts, what she learns outside the room is a phenomenological
feature of her visual experience, also known as qualia. Qualia, the subjective experience, relate to
sensations and emotions such as feeling exhausted due to a headache. An example of qualia is what it
is like for me to taste this specific type of candy at this moment. In Mary s case, she learns what it is
like to see the red tomato when she is outside of the room. The world has a combination of non
physical and physical facts. Therefore, the theory of physicalism is false as Frank Jackson s
Knowledge Argument takes account of qualia which successfully targets what physicalism lacks. ...

This objection attacks the claim that Mary learns a new fact. According to Lewis, new experience
gives an individual new ability. For instance, a person tasting Vegemite for the first time would result
in gaining the ability to remember the taste, to recognize the taste the next time he has Vegemite, and
to imagine that same taste. So, when Mary knows what it is like to see red, she gains the ability to
remember, to imagine, and to recognize. However, gaining a new ability is different from gaining a
new information. A new ability, moreover, doesn t have a phenomenal property. Therefore, Mary didn
t learn any new fact and the Knowledge Argument fails to refute

History of the Fire Service
The History of the Fire Service
Did you know that the earliest form of firefighting took place in Rome in 24 B.C? After almost being
destroyed by unruly conflagrations, Rome created a fire department consisting of about 7,000 paid
firefighters. Their fire crews responded to and fought fires, and also patrolled the streets with the
authority to fine anyone who disobeyed the fire prevention codes (Hashgan). The major piece of
firefighting equipment the Roman s used was the bucket, which was passed from hand to hand to
deliver water to the fire. Additionally, they used an ax, which was utilized to remove the fuel and
prevent the spread of fire, as well as to make openings that would allow heat and smoke to escape a
burning building. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Along with the establishment of fire companies, fire insurance was also created.
In 1829, a steam fire engine was built in London, but the volunteer fire companies were stuck in the
olden days and they were slow to accept it, but in Cincinnati, Ohio, the public forced the firefighters to
use the steam engines. Additionally, William F. Channing used telegraph technology to develop the
first fire alarm box system in 1852 (Britannica). By April 29, 1852 the first box was struck, and boxes
were placed all over the city.
Later, in 1832, the New York Mutual Hook and Latter Company No. 1 bought a horse to pull their
engine. Before long, horses became a part of the fire service all over the country (Hashagan). Many of
the horses were trained to the sound of the bell to get out of their stalls and stand at the front of the
engine, usually with the help of the Dalmatian, the fire dog (Hashagan). Dalmatians were chosen as
fire dogs not only because of the strong bonds they form with the horses, but also because they
guarded the engine. At the sound of the bell, the
dog would stir up the horses and then run outside and bark at the people trying to cross in front of the
fire house (Hashagan).
In the year 1870, the aerial ladder wagon appeared. This enabled the firefighters to reach high places,
tall buildings, and made putting out fires and rescuing trapped victims easier. Then in 1871 the hose
elevator was created. The hose elevator made it possible for the water

Current Trends Of Data Mining
Current Trends in Data Mining
Sardor Khodjaev
I. INTRODUCTION
Data itself is useless, until it is mined and transformed into a valuable source of knowledge discovery.
Due to its conversion into useful information, data mining has become the leading source being used
in many fields worldwide. Data mining is based on complex algorithms that allow for the
segmentation of data to identify patterns and trends, detect anomalies, and predict the probability of
various situational outcomes. [1] Many organizations from healthcare to multimedia and more are
relaying on data and getting developed through the use of it. Regardless of how, data warehouse
changed its rhythm and dimension in terms of measurements such as: variety, volume and velocity.
Today, one can see the current trends of data mining in different fields such as social networks,
healthcare and businesses. As data mining is giving the opportunity for those fields to get advanced,
Big Data is also opening up new doors within itself as the new trends emerge.
However, Big Data suggests something more than just an analysis of huge volumes of information.
The problem is not that the organizations create high volume of data, but the fact that most of them are
presented in a format consisting with traditionally poor structured form of database such as: a web
based magazines, images, videos, text documents, machine code and geospatial data . All of these are
allocated in a distributed storages, sometimes even

Culture In Huck Finn
Mark Twain s satire The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn comments society s culture in the south and
its power to influence people. As the narrator, Huck Finn, travels south on the Mississippi River, his
perception of the world around him evolves and undermines the faucets of naturalism and he makes a
major moral decision. However, newly found conscience comes at a price, the loss of his innocence
and the realization of the functions of his society. Overall, this piece is a comment on culture and its
ability to influence and shape the perceptions of an individual that are originally dictated by heredity
and environmental factors. There are several examples in the novel that comments on the culture of
the south and it power of influence it has on people. It is ironic to characterize the characters, such as
the Grangerfords, Huck encounters on his journey. As blusterous as they are, the Grangerfords are
respectable characters driven by loyalty and respect, however, their way of living is ironic as they are
driven by guns and feuds as they preach all about brotherly love, and suck tiresomeness; but

Durkheimian Theories Applied to Buffalo Creek Essay
This essay will describe Emile Durkheim’s concepts of social integration and social/moral
regulation and will explain how Durkheim connects them to suicide. It will then utilize those concepts
to analyze the social effects of the Buffalo Creek flood, as described in the book “Everything In Its
Path, by Kai T. Erikson, showing other consequences besides higher suicide rates.
Durkheim’s concept of social integration refers to social groups with well defined values,
traditions, norms, and goals. These groups will differ in the degree to which individuals are part of the
collective body, also to the extent to which the group is emphasized over the individual, and lastly the
level to which the group is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Finally, we have Fatalistic suicide, which occurs in societies with high levels of social regulation. This
is only briefly discussed in Durkheim’s work, as he saw Fatalistic suicide, “as a rare
phenomena in the real world. (I1) An example might be someone with an overregulated and
difficult life, like a slave.
In order to understand how Durkheim’s concepts apply to the Buffalo Creek disaster, you must
first know some things about Buffalo Creek, West Virginia. Prior to the disaster in 1972, Buffalo
Creek was a typical coal mining community, home to some five thousand people. It had changed over
the years, population rose and fell with the periodic coal booms, the population had actually risen to
two or three times its present size in 1972. Most of the people who came and left were mainly
temporary, just following the work. However, some who left were lifelong residents and “an even
more substantial number of young persons who had grown up in the area. (23) They left for the
same reasons that all young people leave this type of community; they did not want to be cast in the
roles of previous generations. So, before the flood on February 26, 1972, the resident’s of Buffalo
Creek had very high levels of social integration and social regulation. It was a very

Women s Studies Women s studies focus on the roles, experiences, and achievements of women in
society. In result of the lack of sports media coverage, we as people, and sports fans miss out on the
achievements and experiences that these sports women live through. The goals that are achieved by
these women are something that that should be seen throughout society as something that kids, and
parents alike are able to connect to. There have been a variety of studies done to try and pin point what
methods contribute to the construction of women s sport. What scholars have been able to find is that
multiple reasons can be attributed to the lack of sports media pertained to females, such as, Low
volume of media attention, narrative focus, prominence of placement or scheduling, linguistic choices
and visual representation. (Sherry, Osbourne Nicholson, 2015). As consequence of women not being

Prostitution In Brazil Essay
If prostitution is legal in Brazil, why is prostitution legal if brothels are going to be illegal to operate?
Even though prostitution is legal in Brazil, it is illegal to operate or to employ prostitutes in any other
way. This is a big issue because there are still brothels that operate secretly in Brazil, but if the
Brazilian government s legalized brothels, they would help the Brazilian economy by they can help
lead to a chain effect that would significantly benefit Brazil s economy, primarily through tax revenue
which will bring in a lot of money for the government. More criminal activity is occurring while these
brothels main to be illegal. Many people would argue that legalizing a brothel would just be a gift to
pimps, traffickers, and the sex industry. If the brothels are government owned and run by a person they
would have to be guidelines and policies that the government has portrayed to them. According to a

Synapsin Staining Report
Discussion
Based on the results of this experiment, it can be stated that there was no correlation between
serotonin and synapsin staining in both Camponotus floridanus and Pogonomyrmex badius. The
quality of synapsin and serotonin staining varied among all the individuals in the lab, some individuals
would get good quality stains, while others get subpar stains. This would be due to many factors such
as, amount of time spent in blocking solution, fixative, and both primary and secondary antibodies,
dehydrating the brains for too long. The initial hypothesis was that there would be a large trace of
serotonin and synapsin staining in the mushroom bodies and optic lobes of both ant species as both
areas of the brain are critical to their survival, with respect to olfactory sensitivity and visual
processing (Heisenberg 1998; Holldobler 1976). But, the quality and trace of serotonin and synapsin
staining was not significant across almost all of the brain samples. This signifies that samples were
affected by an outside source, thus causing less than desirable staining results.

more accurate results, concerning staining quality. On the contrary, there was a positive correlation

The Importance Of Living A Simple Life
In church today, the pastor and the congregation conversate about simplicity. He mentioned we should
live an uncomplicated life because materials can become obsessive and serve as idols. While many
associate religions with poverty, others think money symbolized envy, greed, and evil. According to
the Holy Bible, a rich man will face difficulty to enter heaven because it states that for a rich man to
enter heaven is harder than for a camel to fit in the eye of a needle . Containing an enormous amount
of money cannot prevent an individual from going to heaven, however, the change of character money

Decline of Union Membership Essay
Organized labor has seen a long and ever changing history in the United States. What began as
minimal organized labor movement catapulted into astronomical union membership rates as the nation
grew and developed. The intense power unions possessed only lasted so long and in the years since
1970, union membership in the United States has collapsed. This paper will examine the most
significant reasons for the decline in membership. In brief, organizational redesigns, the development
of technology and substantial public policy changes have all contributed to the drop in affiliation rates.
In addition, policy suggestions will be provided in an attempt to support the continuation of the trend.
Much of the research regarding this topic refers to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In 1913, Congress created the United 3 State Department of Labor as a direct result of pressure from
organized labor (MacLaury). Shortly after the creation of the Department of Labor, the Great
Recession hit the nation. With the depression came an increased unemployment and lesser wages
however significant legislation was also created during that time that impacted union membership.
The most significant law was the Fair Labor Standards Act. Following shortly after this FLSA, the
United States amended the Equal Pay Act and the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Occupations
Health and Safety Act of 1970. Although these acts were supported by the power of unions, these acts
in particular impact union membership which will be discussed later in the paper. It was at this time in
the nation s history that unions began to see a decline in membership. Unions today cast a wide
umbrella of membership and consist of trade unions such as the International Brotherhood of
Electrical Workers and the Laborers International Union of North America to service unions such as
the United Food and Commercial Workers. Although their membership has declined, unions that were
once affiliated with a defined group skilled labor employees now can be found in almost any industry

Moral Story Of Cinderella
Many times, people dream of being the protagonists of a Disney movie and thus live in a fantasy
world where they are happy forever. It is easy to create the illusion that in the world of princesses
everything is perfect and beautiful. In fact, behind these stories hides a reproduction of the purest and
harsh truth of the real life in which we live, where events they are not isolated, and they all have a
direct impact on people s lives and change them either positively or negatively. So, are these fairy
tales true stories of happiness?
The film Cinderella tells the story of a lovely girl with a very pure heart who had everything in life.
She was pleased, had a beautiful family, a house, and goods, and most importantly, much love.
Although her family possessed some riches, she was raised in an environment of kindness, kindness,
compassion, and love for the animals she considered her friends, especially the little mice. When his
mother dies, her father marries a kind woman with two daughters and a cat, or at least that was what
he thought about his new wife, whom Cinderella warmly receives at home. Cinderella s stepmother
pretended all along to be an adorable housewife capable not only of being a good mother to her own
daughters but to the daughter of her husband. Everything changes the day Cinderella s father passed
away. From that moment, the girl begins to be a victim of abuse, mistreatment, and humiliations of her
evil stepmother and her spoiled and jealous stepsisters.

Ancient Peoples Of The American Southwest
Ancient Peoples of the American Southwest American archaeologist and anthropologist, Stephen Plog,

American Southwest. Plog s purpose is to communicate the cultural and ritualistic lifestyles of the
prehistoric natives of the southwest, which spans across the states of Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico,
Utah, and Nevada with some mention of trade with Mexico. The author has demonstrated an effective
approach of an objective viewpoint on the lives of the prehistoric south westerners using sources from

However, with the remains of their pieces of tools and other goods across the lands in different
villages it can be speculated that some groups of Native Americans had social relations with others, or
had mobile groups spread across the lands. For example, the clovis was an instrument used for hunting
by the Paleo Indian groups. The Clovis and Folsom peoples, and has been found in animal and village

peoples who focused more on hunting and gathering, but relied heavily more on natural foods such as
fruits and nuts. As a result of this gathering technique for food supply, more villages were formed
beginning with the archaic peoples. I believe this had led to the evolution of larger populations in
native villages as I had read throughout Plog s book that the villages got bigger with the increased use
farming agricultural goods such as maize and beans. Rather than small campsites, villages rose as a
result such as the Shabik eschee peoples in Chaco Canyon. The development of village life led to new
cultural customs such as cremation of the dead and preserved

sight of the American public s eye. With specific regard to the GOP, the former playbook of politics,
consistent with unwavering party loyalty, has certainly been pushed out of print; especially by current
speaker of the house, Paul Ryan. This essay will detail the estranged relationship between Paul Ryan
and his party base, as rendered by New York Times correspondent Robert Draper, scrutinize the article
s inherent biases, and ultimately contextualize the situation in terms of Kelly s leadership patterns.
This political cycle surely has made a spectacle of American politics. Donald Trump, the boisterous

First, in pairing Paul Ryan with Donald Trump, the current House Speaker could easily be described
as, capable of contributing to the leadership process, but [also] disgruntled and cynical (McManus and
Perruci 46), refusing to do so; an alienated follower. It is not in Ryan s interest to unwholly commit
party loyalty, especially with 2016 being such a divisive election year, nonetheless his failure to fall on
his sword for Trump displays a form of cynicism and alienation from the GOP nominee. Within this
instance of leadership, Ryan easily is characterized as an alienated follower. Next, in the context of
seeing Paul Ryan under the leadership of entity that is the GOP, Ryan is certainly a survivor. The
survivor is a very dynamic role on Kelly s followership model, in that the survivor s, goal is not so
much to achieve the common goal of the group, as it is to achieve their personal goal of surviving in
the organization (McManus and Perruci 47). Ryan voiced to House Republicans that he was done
defending Donald Trump, but he never rescinded his support for the nominee. The Speaker is walking

Marriage and Divorce in Hard Times
Marriage and Divorce in Dickens Hard Times: A Statement on the Religious Morals of 19th Century
British Society
The Victorian era in England gave birth to the first real industrial society the world had ever seen.
With the rise of industry came large cities, an expanded working class population and the rapid rise of
imperialism. Although England was progressing towards a more powerful place in the world, its
citizens seemed to be drifting in the opposite direction. Oppressive laws and working conditions set
clear boundaries between classes in England. The most oppressive social and state laws were those
regarding to marriages and divorces. Just as the people of England felt trapped in the unequal social
structure of England, the same is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Judge William Blackstone had announced that husbands could administer moderate correction to
disobedient wives, and there were other means: as late as 1895, Edith Lanchester s father had her
kidnapped and committed to a lunatic asylum for cohabiting with a man (Wojtczak, English Women s
History ). Although religion is not explicitly mentioned in Hard Times, religious values were involved
in the social structure of England. Social and government laws were based on religious morals. For
example, The Bible specifically states, Let the husband render unto the wife due benevolence: and
likewise also the wife unto the husband (King James Version, 1. Corinthians. 7.3). The Bible notes
that the husband should treat his wife with benevolence. When one thinks of marriage, they think of
love and emotions. This certainly does not seem to be the case in Mr. and Mrs. Gradgrind s marriage.
A perfect example of this is when Mrs. Gradgrind quotes on her deathbed, You must remember my
dear, that whenever I have said anything, on any subject, I have never heard the last of it; and
consequently, that I have long left off saying anything (Dickens 151). To expand this further, The
Bible also notes that, Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his
wife: and they shall be one flesh (Genesis, 2.24). The Bible promotes the idea of a man and woman
being together as one flesh. To be one is to be equal or balanced. This is not the

Figurative Language In Ernest Hemingway s Time Traveler
This extract primarily focusses on the Time Traveller theorising upon the social constructs in the
future that he has travelled to. Returning to the scene that he observed upon the establishment of his
first hasty conclusions , he now harbours a more informed perspective. He observes that the beauty of
the Eloi, what he refers to as the Over world people , is corrupted by the constant reminders of what
lies beneath in the form of the cupolas that are blots upon the landscape . This observation reaffirms
his interpretation of the social construct that whilst the Eloi may appear to live freely and
harmoniously, they live in fear of the oppressive force that is the Morlocks. Quite like the Time
Traveller s hypotheses over the course of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The figurative comparison to cattle is an exemplar of this as one species, representing one class, feeds
off the other. This is established further through the descriptive terminology of Under world and Over
world people , providing a clear distinction, asserting a recognition that one is dominant over the
other. However, Wells thematic use of class warfare is achieved through another prevalent motif
within the novella, that of the critique of Victorian Decadence. The social construct is in a state of
decay, reaching the point of cannibalism, with the Eloi in particular suffering this fate. These beautiful
people wearing gay robes are described earlier as the purposeless energy of mankind that takes to art
and eroticism, and then come languor and decay (Wells, 33). These artistic, aesthetic and supposedly
free creatures represent this critique of Victorian decadence as they decay. The descriptive language of
the landscape further alludes to this theme as the oxymoron of magnificent ruins describes the pastoral
decay. Furthermore, blots upon the landscape represent the decay that the landscape has undergone
and another beauty that has been

Amel Saleh Rhetorical Analysis
Amel Saleh s argument that the holiday season is too materialistic, is a well defended statement
because she appeals to all three rhetoric appeals, and uses solid evidence to defend her position. Her
essay gives insight to how gifting giving has lost its true value, . In Amel Saleh s essay, it states,
Despite the fact that the United States holds 4.5 percent of the world s population, we consume 40
percent of the toys. According to Psychcentral.com, a first grader is able to recognize 200 brands and
obtains 70 new toys a year. This is an example of the author using logos, since America consumes 40

This shows who the audience is, the author says, Are we raising our kids... , which shows that she s
talking directly to parents. In the essay, it states, When those teenagers become adults they will expect
to do little work for a lot in return. They are more likely to suffer personality disorders like narcissism,
separation anxiety, paranoia, and attention deficit disorder. The author uses pathos here, because
parents naturally care about their child s well being. Parents never want to be the cause of their child s
problem, and if there is a problem, they want to find a way to solve it. The quote is also the Ethos of
the article, because it shows the credibility. She knows a lot about how the psyche works on
individuals, by telling the audience the possible effects that materialism can have on children. The
author counters her argument with, Now, i m not saying to refrain from buying gifts for your loved

understands that gift giving isn t a bad thing, but individuals should do it in moderation, and not forget

The Film The Lost Honor Of Katharina Blum
The German films The Lost Honor of Katharina Blum, directed by Dir. Volker Schlondorff and
Margarethe von Trotta in 1975 and The Marriage of Maria Braun, directed by Dir. Rainer Werner
Fassbinder in 1979 both display issues with gender equality. In The Lost Honor of Katharina Blum,
Katharina shares a night with a wanted man and she falls in love with him. She is harassed by the
police and the press when she tells them that she had no part in helping Ludwig Götten, the wanted
terrorist, escape. Katharina is an example of how women were victimized at this time by
establishments run by primarily men, like the police. In The Marriage of Maria Braun, Maria s
husband, Herman, is sent off to battle. After hearing the announced death of her husband, and
experiencing his arrival soon after, Herman is put into prison and Maria promises Herman a life
together once he is released. Against the gender roles present during this time period, Maria works to
attain wealth to fulfill her promise. Though each film presents it differently, both display set gender
roles which provide expectations and issues that Katharina and Maria effectively overcome. Katharina
stands firm, refusing to allow any of the men to control her or to break her through victimization and
harassment. And Maria adapts her femininity in order to exceed the social, political and cultural
expectations set for women. Men play significant roles in both films, they have a major influence on
Katharina and Maria, and they are

The Civil War Of 1861
The Civil War took place in 1861 and it lasted up until 1865. It was a war between the United States
or, The Union army rather, and eleven deep rooted southern states known as the Confederacy. The
Civil War occurred mainly as a direct response to slavery. The South preferred to keep slavery and the
North simply wanted to preserve the Union. However, there were many other incidents that occurred
and there were different battles that caused the Civil War to have its end results. Those battles will be
addressed in the following paragraphs. The very first battle took place in 1861. It was known as both
The Battle of Bull Run and the Battle of Manassas. The Union army, led by General Irvin Manassas,
was slightly larger than the Confederate army, led by P.G.T. Beauregard. It took place in northern
Virginia when the Union army marched to Manassas in attempt to attack the Confederates. The attack
appeared to be successful, but the Confederates managed to survive. They later went on to
counterattack the Union and McDowell and his army were forced to retreat back to Washington. This
battle was very detrimental and overwhelming for the Union army, and left them in a state of disbelief.
However, in 1861 the Union were still able to make substantial progress. They were eventually able to
proclaim western Virginia a new renowned state admitted as West Virginia in 1863. Shortly after the
Battle of Bull Run, the war took a turn in favor of the Union. A Union regiment directed by David

The Bible, The Word `` Covenant ``
Despite the continuous disobedience and failures from God s people, His love for humanity is so deep
and faithful that He made promises to His people so that they would rebuild their relationship and
fellowship with Him once again. In the Bible, the word covenant is used to describe the relationship
between both God and man. God blesses those who receive the promises because of their faith and
their commitments to His commandments. His covenants with His people give an important theme for
Christianity because it still upholds truth to today s society and future generations to come.
The first covenant God made with His people after the fall of Adam and Eve was the Noahic covenant.
This covenant was made during the time where only one man Noah, was able to make God smile and
stay faithful to God s plan despite the continuous sinful actions made by the other people. This
covenant shows God s grace towards humanity and their disobedience towards His commands. The
Noahic covenant lays down the foundation for the existence of humankind. It also addresses in
particular the matter of capital punishment that took place during this time. Genesis 9:12 13 states,
And God said, This is the sign of the covenant I am making between me and you and every living
creature with you, a covenant for all generations to come: I have set my rainbow in the clouds, and it
will be the sign of the covenant between me and the earth. This covenant was set after God flooded

software (OS) An operating system has the ability to manage both the hardware and software of a
computer or device. It is the most important part of a computer and controls every action and task
which is carried out. Computers and devices require both hardware and software for it to operate.
Without one, you will not have a functioning machine. All desktops utilise operating systems, of
which the software (or OS) is a collection of code installed onto the computer s hard drive and is
intangible. It includes the computer programs, folders, files and documents. The internet browser, like
Mozilla Firefox or Google Chrome that allows you to visit online web pages and the operating system
that the browser is running on is considered software, while computer hardware is any physical device
used in or with your computer or machine. It is something you can physically touch. Examples of

Examples Of Harmonizing A Harmonic Melody
How to Harmonize a Tonal Melody
Ultimately, harmonizing a melody is a matter of personal taste. Nevertheless, although you have some
leeway in the selection of chords, a certain standard of musical communication, known as style,
prevents you from exercising complete freedom.
Harmonizing a Chorale Phrase
The following general principles will guide our choice of chords for a Chorale harmonizations as
much like those of Bach as possible:
1. You must use half (I V, IV V, or ii V) or authentic (V I) cadences for the final two notes of each
phrase.
2. You should use circle progressions throughout in each phrase. Circle progressions are more often
longer and more abundant near the cadence than at the beginning of the phrase.
3. Harmonize each melody note with one chord. It is possible to repeat chords occasionally, but
adjacent repeated chords are usually in different ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A typical melody will have no more than one or two structural tones per measure. (The other notes are
connecting or embellishing notes.) The chord you apply to a structural tone should include the
structural tone as one of the three notes of the basic triad.
Now comes the work of fitting chords to these structural tones. We could apply one of three chords
that include the structural tone in the triad. As we continue on in this fashion, we can come up with
any number of interesting chord progressions. Once you ve assigned the chords to the structural tones,
return the melody to its expanded state. Note that when using the structural tone method, there is no
right or wrong way to decide which chords to apply Other Tips for Harmonizing a Melody: There are
other points you need to consider when fitting chords to a melody
Try some common chord changes first. You d be surprised how many melodies fit with the I IV V

The Last Jedi Poster Analysis
Star Wars: The Last Jedi has yet another promotional item that goes in a vaguely familiar direction for
these sorts of things.
While Star Wars News Net may have decided to focus on what s new in the latest promotional item
for Star Wars: The Last Jedi, we here at Culturess noticed something different: that this reminds us, in
a number of ways, of pieces we ve seen before in the realm of Star Wars marketing tools.
First off, Luke Skywalker is occupying a very similar position to the one Darth Vader does in this well
known poster from The Empire Strikes Back. In fact, The Last Jedi even has the same concept of two
visual masses at the center, just reversed in which one s larger and more prominent. For Empire, it s
Han and Leia to the right; ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, check out this poster from Attack of the Clones. There s another use of both orange and red.
Last Jedi certainly skews more reddish orange, but also borrows the idea of a blue lightsaber
illuminating part of a main character s face in this case, it s Rey again, and Obi Wan on Attack of the
Clones.
Third, Revenge of the Sith actually combines both of these ideas: the palette as well as the looming
presence in the upper left.
Fourth, to talk about the droids (again), it s good to see that R2 D2 is on the right and C 3PO is on the
left. That one goes all the way back to A New Hope ... er, Star Wars.
There are some other points to note as well. Kylo Ren s expression here is particularly intriguing it s
very obviously conflicted. That s something that not even Anakin ever managed on any of the posters
he features in. Not even any of the Revenge of the Sith or The Phantom Menace pieces really come
close to capturing such emotion.
Look to the right of Kylo Ren as well. Although it doesn t seem like there are actually two suns, a
brief glance might make one think that there are. Look behind both the X Wings and the TIE Fighters,
and you might see what, given the colors used, almost looks like a binary sunset. That s the kind of
callback we like to

A Research Report On Saudi Arabia
This study is taking a quantitative approach contain analysis and for that selecting three representative
newspapers and journalists in the Saudi Arabia, which are Al Riyadh, Sabq, Asharq Al‑Awsat and
Twitter accounts of three journalists on Twitter to collect the required data. Moreover, this method is
more suitable because it is creating an observation on the news posted by the newspapers that we have
selected. Furthermore, it is important to note down that how journalists are publishing the breaking
news or retweet the breaking news from newspapers or other journalists. From a review of previous
research shows that many of the researchers relied on the content analysis because it gives accurate
results through observation and monitoring of the variables that are used in the research questions.
Content analysis will be used instead of a survey, longitudinal analysis, or a secondary analysis
because it is difficult to get accurate results from of previous research. Additionally, Saudi Arabia is a
new area in new media and there is not much of the previous research in this area about the new media
in Saudi Arabia. The questionnaire may be suitable for this study, but perhaps does not respond to the
questionnaire will be the right way, because most of the people do not consider survey as an important
thing and they do not answer it clearly. So, as I pointed out earlier content analysis is the best for this
study.

Ms. Marvel: No Normal
Reading No Normal was my first ever experience with the Ms. Marvel spinoff, and I absolutely loved
it. I think choosing a sixteen year old, Pakistani American, Muslim girl as the main hero was a bold
move for the American comic book giant Marvel, but I believe it truly paid off. In Ms. Marvel: No
Normal, Kamala is a wonderful representation of female empowerment through self identity. The
main plot point of the comic is that Kamala, (a Muslim high school girl struggling with her faith and
identity) is asked if she d like to attend a party where alcohol will be served, which is a violation of
her religion. As she contemplates ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, this image also doesn t truly show Kamala as herself. Although I myself am a white woman,
I personally felt empowered when Kamala s father tells her, you don t have to be someone else to
impress anybody. You are perfect just the way you are. As she tries on her different identities, she
realizes that she doesn t fit into either image, both American and Muslim. Using her own wit and
motivation, she creates her own identity instead. I really enjoyed the representation of female strength
in this comic.
One portion of the plot that I thought was very interesting was Kamala s personal identity intersecting
with her sense of strength. When Kamala finally accepts her true self, she s forced to shrink into a tiny
version of herself. Although this was pivotal to the action packed plot, I thought this specific metaphor
was interesting. I connected her finally accepting herself, (for she hadn t yet, not completely,) to have
to being reborn, or a type of hero s journey where she has to reemerge as her true self, fully realized,
in order to succeed. It s only in the fifth and final volume that Kamala is capable of mastering her
powers, after being shrank. With Bruno s help, she physically, (and mentally) grows into a giant, her
truly realized, heroine form to save the day.
Ms. Marvel: No Normal is a great read that really connected with me. Kamala

Male Dominance Quotes
The novel mainly deals with the struggle, both in Africa and America , of women to gain recognition
as separate individuals who deserve equal and fair treatment. Male dominance is the major folkway
which operates in both the countries. It takes different forms, not least of which is sexual aggression.
In the very first letter, Celie talks about the abuse she suffers at the hands of the man she believes for a
long time as her father. Mary Agnes is raped by the white uncle whom she approaches for help to get
Sofia out of the prison and Mr Albert also. Physical violence also seems to be a very common
occurrence, even in relationships which seemed loving, like that between Harpo and his wife Sofia.

She is also forced to accept Albert s affair with Shug Avery, which goes to an extent of him sleeping
with her under the same roof. In fact fidelity is not viewed as an important quality by most of the men,
although the same behaviour if exhibited by females is cause for comment. I personally feel that the
character of Shug is certainly a symbol of feminism. The woman who manages to challenge the male
dominance the most is no other than Shug, who depicts her independence by living according to her
own principles. It is unsurprising, given the circumstances that Shug and Celie get involved
emotionally . Shug is a powerful and determined woman who refuses to be stepped on by men. Celie
is a victim of male abuse who has closed herself off from the possibility of trusting men. Another
important instance can be of how the preacher attacks Shug by implication because of her loose
lifestyle, but on the other hand men are allowed to behave as they wish. The main message of the
novel is that women must stand up and fight against the unfair treatment they receive at the hands of

Women In Defense Of Our Daughters By Mike Pence
As refreshing as it is to see the support against this disgusting, offensive bigot, there s something

  • 2. David Lewis Ability Theory If physicalism is true, Mary knows all there is to know, and hence her knowledge is complete. When Mary steps out of the room and sees a red tomato, she learns about what it is like to see a red tomato. Since Mary knows all the physical facts, what she learns outside the room is a phenomenological feature of her visual experience, also known as qualia. Qualia, the subjective experience, relate to sensations and emotions such as feeling exhausted due to a headache. An example of qualia is what it is like for me to taste this specific type of candy at this moment. In Mary s case, she learns what it is like to see the red tomato when she is outside of the room. The world has a combination of non physical and physical facts. Therefore, the theory of physicalism is false as Frank Jackson s Knowledge Argument takes account of qualia which successfully targets what physicalism lacks. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This objection attacks the claim that Mary learns a new fact. According to Lewis, new experience gives an individual new ability. For instance, a person tasting Vegemite for the first time would result in gaining the ability to remember the taste, to recognize the taste the next time he has Vegemite, and to imagine that same taste. So, when Mary knows what it is like to see red, she gains the ability to remember, to imagine, and to recognize. However, gaining a new ability is different from gaining a new information. A new ability, moreover, doesn t have a phenomenal property. Therefore, Mary didn t learn any new fact and the Knowledge Argument fails to refute ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. History of the Fire Service The History of the Fire Service Did you know that the earliest form of firefighting took place in Rome in 24 B.C? After almost being destroyed by unruly conflagrations, Rome created a fire department consisting of about 7,000 paid firefighters. Their fire crews responded to and fought fires, and also patrolled the streets with the authority to fine anyone who disobeyed the fire prevention codes (Hashgan). The major piece of firefighting equipment the Roman s used was the bucket, which was passed from hand to hand to deliver water to the fire. Additionally, they used an ax, which was utilized to remove the fuel and prevent the spread of fire, as well as to make openings that would allow heat and smoke to escape a burning building. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Along with the establishment of fire companies, fire insurance was also created. In 1829, a steam fire engine was built in London, but the volunteer fire companies were stuck in the olden days and they were slow to accept it, but in Cincinnati, Ohio, the public forced the firefighters to use the steam engines. Additionally, William F. Channing used telegraph technology to develop the first fire alarm box system in 1852 (Britannica). By April 29, 1852 the first box was struck, and boxes were placed all over the city. Later, in 1832, the New York Mutual Hook and Latter Company No. 1 bought a horse to pull their engine. Before long, horses became a part of the fire service all over the country (Hashagan). Many of the horses were trained to the sound of the bell to get out of their stalls and stand at the front of the engine, usually with the help of the Dalmatian, the fire dog (Hashagan). Dalmatians were chosen as fire dogs not only because of the strong bonds they form with the horses, but also because they guarded the engine. At the sound of the bell, the dog would stir up the horses and then run outside and bark at the people trying to cross in front of the fire house (Hashagan). In the year 1870, the aerial ladder wagon appeared. This enabled the firefighters to reach high places, tall buildings, and made putting out fires and rescuing trapped victims easier. Then in 1871 the hose elevator was created. The hose elevator made it possible for the water ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Current Trends Of Data Mining Current Trends in Data Mining Sardor Khodjaev I. INTRODUCTION Data itself is useless, until it is mined and transformed into a valuable source of knowledge discovery. Due to its conversion into useful information, data mining has become the leading source being used in many fields worldwide. Data mining is based on complex algorithms that allow for the segmentation of data to identify patterns and trends, detect anomalies, and predict the probability of various situational outcomes. [1] Many organizations from healthcare to multimedia and more are relaying on data and getting developed through the use of it. Regardless of how, data warehouse changed its rhythm and dimension in terms of measurements such as: variety, volume and velocity. Today, one can see the current trends of data mining in different fields such as social networks, healthcare and businesses. As data mining is giving the opportunity for those fields to get advanced, Big Data is also opening up new doors within itself as the new trends emerge. However, Big Data suggests something more than just an analysis of huge volumes of information. The problem is not that the organizations create high volume of data, but the fact that most of them are presented in a format consisting with traditionally poor structured form of database such as: a web based magazines, images, videos, text documents, machine code and geospatial data . All of these are allocated in a distributed storages, sometimes even ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Culture In Huck Finn Mark Twain s satire The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn comments society s culture in the south and its power to influence people. As the narrator, Huck Finn, travels south on the Mississippi River, his perception of the world around him evolves and undermines the faucets of naturalism and he makes a major moral decision. However, newly found conscience comes at a price, the loss of his innocence and the realization of the functions of his society. Overall, this piece is a comment on culture and its ability to influence and shape the perceptions of an individual that are originally dictated by heredity and environmental factors. There are several examples in the novel that comments on the culture of the south and it power of influence it has on people. It is ironic to characterize the characters, such as the Grangerfords, Huck encounters on his journey. As blusterous as they are, the Grangerfords are respectable characters driven by loyalty and respect, however, their way of living is ironic as they are driven by guns and feuds as they preach all about brotherly love, and suck tiresomeness; but everybody said it was a good sermon, and they all talked it over going home, and had such a ... • 6. Durkheimian Theories Applied to Buffalo Creek Essay This essay will describe Emile Durkheim’s concepts of social integration and social/moral regulation and will explain how Durkheim connects them to suicide. It will then utilize those concepts to analyze the social effects of the Buffalo Creek flood, as described in the book “Everything In Its Pathâ€?, by Kai T. Erikson, showing other consequences besides higher suicide rates. Durkheim’s concept of social integration refers to social groups with well defined values, traditions, norms, and goals. These groups will differ in the degree to which individuals are part of the collective body, also to the extent to which the group is emphasized over the individual, and lastly the level to which the group is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Finally, we have Fatalistic suicide, which occurs in societies with high levels of social regulation. This is only briefly discussed in Durkheim’s work, as he saw Fatalistic suicide, “as a rare phenomena in the real world.â€? (I1) An example might be someone with an overregulated and difficult life, like a slave. In order to understand how Durkheim’s concepts apply to the Buffalo Creek disaster, you must first know some things about Buffalo Creek, West Virginia. Prior to the disaster in 1972, Buffalo Creek was a typical coal mining community, home to some five thousand people. It had changed over the years, population rose and fell with the periodic coal booms, the population had actually risen to two or three times its present size in 1972. Most of the people who came and left were mainly temporary, just following the work. However, some who left were lifelong residents and “an even more substantial number of young persons who had grown up in the area.â€? (23) They left for the same reasons that all young people leave this type of community; they did not want to be cast in the roles of previous generations. So, before the flood on February 26, 1972, the resident’s of Buffalo Creek had very high levels of social integration and social regulation. It was a very ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Synapsin Staining Report Discussion Based on the results of this experiment, it can be stated that there was no correlation between serotonin and synapsin staining in both Camponotus floridanus and Pogonomyrmex badius. The quality of synapsin and serotonin staining varied among all the individuals in the lab, some individuals would get good quality stains, while others get subpar stains. This would be due to many factors such as, amount of time spent in blocking solution, fixative, and both primary and secondary antibodies, dehydrating the brains for too long. The initial hypothesis was that there would be a large trace of serotonin and synapsin staining in the mushroom bodies and optic lobes of both ant species as both areas of the brain are critical to their survival, with respect to olfactory sensitivity and visual processing (Heisenberg 1998; Holldobler 1976). Although religion is not explicitly mentioned in Hard Times, religious values were involved in the social structure of England. Social and government laws were based on religious morals. For example, The Bible specifically states, Let the husband render unto the wife due benevolence: and likewise also the wife unto the husband (King James Version, 1. Corinthians. 7.3). The Bible notes that the husband should treat his wife with benevolence. When one thinks of marriage, they think of love and emotions. To expand this further, The Bible also notes that, Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh (Genesis, 2.24). With choosing Bethel s on line program, costs that have been given up include time spent with family and time spent on hobbies. • 29. Security And Application Software Within A School... In this report, I will be discussing operating systems, management of information, security and application software within a school environment and personal use. The context of this report will be inclusive of my internal assessments of which I have completed at school, and at home. Operating software (OS) An operating system has the ability to manage both the hardware and software of a computer or device. It is the most important part of a computer and controls every action and task which is carried out. Computers and devices require both hardware and software for it to operate. Without one, you will not have a functioning machine. All desktops utilise operating systems, of which the software (or OS) is a collection of code installed onto the computer s hard drive and is intangible. It includes the computer programs, folders, files and documents. The internet browser, like Mozilla Firefox or Google Chrome that allows you to visit online web pages and the operating system that the browser is running on is considered software, while computer hardware is any physical device used in or with your computer or machine. It is something you can physically touch. Examples of hardware include a mouse, monitor, keyboard and motherboards. The interfaces of applications, device management, processor management, memory management, user interface and storage management are the six main tasks controller by the operating system. • 31. Examples Of Harmonizing A Harmonic Melody How to Harmonize a Tonal Melody Ultimately, harmonizing a melody is a matter of personal taste. Nevertheless, although you have some leeway in the selection of chords, a certain standard of musical communication, known as style, prevents you from exercising complete freedom. Harmonizing a Chorale Phrase The following general principles will guide our choice of chords for a Chorale harmonizations as much like those of Bach as possible: 1. You must use half (I V, IV V, or ii V) or authentic (V I) cadences for the final two notes of each phrase. 2. You should use circle progressions throughout in each phrase. Circle progressions are more often longer and more abundant near the cadence than at the beginning of the phrase. 3. Harmonize each melody note with one chord. It is possible to repeat chords occasionally, but adjacent repeated chords are usually in different ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A typical melody will have no more than one or two structural tones per measure. (The other notes are connecting or embellishing notes.) The chord you apply to a structural tone should include the structural tone as one of the three notes of the basic triad. Now comes the work of fitting chords to these structural tones. We could apply one of three chords that include the structural tone in the triad. As we continue on in this fashion, we can come up with any number of interesting chord progressions. Once you ve assigned the chords to the structural tones, return the melody to its expanded state. Note that when using the structural tone method, there is no right or wrong way to decide which chords to apply Other Tips for Harmonizing a Melody: There are other points you need to consider when fitting chords to a melody Try some common chord changes first. • 32. The Last Jedi Poster Analysis Star Wars: The Last Jedi has yet another promotional item that goes in a vaguely familiar direction for these sorts of things. While Star Wars News Net may have decided to focus on what s new in the latest promotional item for Star Wars: The Last Jedi, we here at Culturess noticed something different: that this reminds us, in a number of ways, of pieces we ve seen before in the realm of Star Wars marketing tools. First off, Luke Skywalker is occupying a very similar position to the one Darth Vader does in this well known poster from The Empire Strikes Back. In fact, The Last Jedi even has the same concept of two visual masses at the center, just reversed in which one s larger and more prominent. For Empire, it s Han and Leia to the right; ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, check out this poster from Attack of the Clones. There s another use of both orange and red. Last Jedi certainly skews more reddish orange, but also borrows the idea of a blue lightsaber illuminating part of a main character s face in this case, it s Rey again, and Obi Wan on Attack of the Clones. Third, Revenge of the Sith actually combines both of these ideas: the palette as well as the looming presence in the upper left. Fourth, to talk about the droids (again), it s good to see that R2 D2 is on the right and C 3PO is on the left. That one goes all the way back to A New Hope ... er, Star Wars. There are some other points to note as well. Kylo Ren s expression here is particularly intriguing it s very obviously conflicted. That s something that not even Anakin ever managed on any of the posters he features in. Not even any of the Revenge of the Sith or The Phantom Menace pieces really come close to capturing such emotion. Look to the right of Kylo Ren as well. Although it doesn t seem like there are actually two suns, a brief glance might make one think that there are. Look behind both the X Wings and the TIE Fighters, and you might see what, given the colors used, almost looks like a binary sunset. That s the kind of callback we like to ... • 33. A Research Report On Saudi Arabia This study is taking a quantitative approach contain analysis and for that selecting three representative newspapers and journalists in the Saudi Arabia, which are Al Riyadh, Sabq, Asharq Al‑Awsat and Twitter accounts of three journalists on Twitter to collect the required data. Moreover, this method is more suitable because it is creating an observation on the news posted by the newspapers that we have selected. Furthermore, it is important to note down that how journalists are publishing the breaking news or retweet the breaking news from newspapers or other journalists. From a review of previous research shows that many of the researchers relied on the content analysis because it gives accurate results through observation and monitoring of the variables that are used in the research questions. Content analysis will be used instead of a survey, longitudinal analysis, or a secondary analysis because it is difficult to get accurate results from of previous research. Additionally, Saudi Arabia is a new area in new media and there is not much of the previous research in this area about the new media in Saudi Arabia. The questionnaire may be suitable for this study, but perhaps does not respond to the questionnaire will be the right way, because most of the people do not consider survey as an important thing and they do not answer it clearly. So, as I pointed out earlier content analysis is the best for this study. The keyword for search will be (breaking news) All the news ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 34. Feminist Reading Of No Normal Shannon Keel Dr. Francis Feminist Reading of Culture October 19th, 2017 Ms. Marvel: No Normal Reading No Normal was my first ever experience with the Ms. Marvel spinoff, and I absolutely loved it. I think choosing a sixteen year old, Pakistani American, Muslim girl as the main hero was a bold move for the American comic book giant Marvel, but I believe it truly paid off. In Ms. Marvel: No Normal, Kamala is a wonderful representation of female empowerment through self identity. The main plot point of the comic is that Kamala, (a Muslim high school girl struggling with her faith and identity) is asked if she d like to attend a party where alcohol will be served, which is a violation of her religion. As she contemplates ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, this image also doesn t truly show Kamala as herself. Although I myself am a white woman, I personally felt empowered when Kamala s father tells her, you don t have to be someone else to impress anybody. You are perfect just the way you are. As she tries on her different identities, she realizes that she doesn t fit into either image, both American and Muslim. Using her own wit and motivation, she creates her own identity instead. I really enjoyed the representation of female strength in this comic. One portion of the plot that I thought was very interesting was Kamala s personal identity intersecting with her sense of strength. When Kamala finally accepts her true self, she s forced to shrink into a tiny version of herself. Although this was pivotal to the action packed plot, I thought this specific metaphor was interesting. I connected her finally accepting herself, (for she hadn t yet, not completely,) to have to being reborn, or a type of hero s journey where she has to reemerge as her true self, fully realized, in order to succeed. It s only in the fifth and final volume that Kamala is capable of mastering her powers, after being shrank. With Bruno s help, she physically, (and mentally) grows into a giant, her truly realized, heroine form to save the day. Ms. Marvel: No Normal is a great read that really connected with me. Kamala ... • 35. Male Dominance Quotes The novel mainly deals with the struggle, both in Africa and America , of women to gain recognition as separate individuals who deserve equal and fair treatment. Male dominance is the major folkway which operates in both the countries. It takes different forms, not least of which is sexual aggression. In the very first letter, Celie talks about the abuse she suffers at the hands of the man she believes for a long time as her father. Mary Agnes is raped by the white uncle whom she approaches for help to get Sofia out of the prison and Mr Albert also. Physical violence also seems to be a very common occurrence, even in relationships which seemed loving, like that between Harpo and his wife Sofia. He beats her because it is a respectable thing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She is also forced to accept Albert s affair with Shug Avery, which goes to an extent of him sleeping with her under the same roof. In fact fidelity is not viewed as an important quality by most of the men, although the same behaviour if exhibited by females is cause for comment. I personally feel that the character of Shug is certainly a symbol of feminism. The woman who manages to challenge the male dominance the most is no other than Shug, who depicts her independence by living according to her own principles. It is unsurprising, given the circumstances that Shug and Celie get involved emotionally . Shug is a powerful and determined woman who refuses to be stepped on by men. Celie is a victim of male abuse who has closed herself off from the possibility of trusting men. Another important instance can be of how the preacher attacks Shug by implication because of her loose lifestyle, but on the other hand men are allowed to behave as they wish. The main message of the novel is that women must stand up and fight against the unfair treatment they receive at the hands of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Women In Defense Of Our Daughters By Mike Pence As refreshing as it is to see the support against this disgusting, offensive bigot, there s something about these statements that s bothersome to me. All of them are in support of our daughters , or our wives . These responses aren t in defense of women, they re in defense of their women. Mike Pence is only offended as a husband and father, not as a human being. Do these men know that women are also human beings? That we don t require the our in front of our names to have value?
