Iron From The Anglo-Saxon Word Iron (Fe)
The element I am researching is Iron(Fe). Iron could be used in many ways. Iron is a ductile, gray,
relatively soft metal and is a moderately good conductor of heat and electricity. 2.It is attracted by
magnets and can be readily magnetized. 3. The pure metal is chemically very reactive and rusts readily
in moist air, forming red brown oxides. Rust is iron oxide and when it is hydrated, it rusts.
Where did iron get its name? Paragraph 2
From the Anglo Saxon word iron or Iren (the origin of the symbol Fe comes from the Latin word
ferrum meaning iron ). 2.Possibly the word iron is derived from earlier words meaning holy metal
because it was used to make the swords used in the Crusades. 3. Iron is the sixth most common

Effects of British Colonial Rule in India
Abtract
The colonization of India and the immense transfer of wealth that moved from the latter to Britain
were vital to the success of the British Empire. In fact, the Viceroy of British India in 1894 called
India the pivot of our Empire ... I examine the effects of the Industrial Revolution on the subcontinent.
Besides highlighting the fact that without cheap labor and raw materials from India, the modernization
of Britain during this era would have been highly unlikely, I will show how colonial policy led to the
privation and death of millions of natives. I conclude that while India undoubtedly benefited from
British colonial rule, the negatives for the subject population far outweighed the positives.

Second, British India, which included today s India, Pakistan and Bangladesh, was a region so large
that there were areas in which Britain exercised direct control over the subject population and others
where it exerted indirect control. It is exceedingly difficult, therefore, to extrapolate from one
experience to another. Although it is impossible to determine how India would have developed had
England never established a dominating presence there, I find the results of British colonialism to
have been a mixed bag for India: the negatives, however, far outweighed the positives.
Liberal and democratic aspects of British colonialism in India played a significant role in leading to a
democratic South Asia following Indian independence in 1947. Yet, the British first through the East
India Company and then through direct government control held almost all of the political and
economic power in India during the Empire s expansion and apogee, guaranteeing the Indian economy
could not evolve and/or function independent of the ruling power s control; ensuring raw materials
extracted from Indian soil would go towards British manufacturing industries mostly without profiting
the vast majority of Indians; and leading to lives of privation for millions of indigenous subjects.
Although there have been arguments made that, in political and

Anglo Saxon Warriors
Anglo Saxon Warriors
The loud scream of the Anglo Saxon warrior was heard as he takes his last breath during battle. His
blood and guts pour out from the inside, fighting with no power left, his sword held high above his
head, he drops to his knees, to his death.
The Anglo Saxon society was built on vengeance and feuds. Starting in the Fifth Century, German
Anglo Saxon warriors destroyed many towns and drove out many native residents in England. Soon,
they took the crown in England and for about a decade the Anglo Saxon people migrated to different
countries, taking their blood feud with them. This meant that, with the death of a kingsman, a man was
expected to avenge his death. Cite). Life as an Anglo Saxon Warrior.
The anglo saxons were like modern day isis
The Anglo Saxon society, as a whole, revolved around warfare. Freemen and even teenagers were
made into warriors and expected to fight during battle. Servants fought for their lords while freemen
were rewarded with land. Anglo Saxon armies were usually small, with only a few hundred men. The
soldiers carried a variety of different weapons: spears, axes, swords, and bows and arrows. When it
comes to their armor however, there was not much protection seeing as they did not wear metal plate
armor, but chainmail. This was most likely to make it easier to maneuver, walk, and battle on foot.
They wore helmets on their heads however they mainly carried wooden shields. Everyone fought on

Essay on The Lonely Death of Public Campaign Financing
Marquette University s Assistant Professor of Law, Richard Esenberg, is doubtful of the effectiveness
of a project that will restructure campaign finance. He foresees the near impossibility of the passage of
a bill, along with many drawbacks in similar attempts to miraculously restore democracy to American
citizens. Although this is a greatly debated and doubtful topic, there is still hope in the power of the
people. While there may be instances where wealthy donors provide a better democratic election, in a
land of the people; the majority of the voting population should control the few politicians that run the
government.
Esenberg s beginning argument relies strongly on the evidence that the money spent on campaign
finance is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although this is only a small difference, it has major ramifications for the amount of money that is
desirable for donors to give. This, in effect, could mean that the idea of the limit itself is more
powerful than the actual limit set.
Esenberg goes on to reiterate that the Supreme Court s ruling on candidate fundraising; stating that the
ability for candidates to bring in donations is considered a legal advantage amongst candidates
(Esenberg, 2010). Limiting this ability would benefit the candidates that are not strong in gathering
donations. This is solely based on the communicating and networking factor of candidates. Reducing
the power of candidates would allow the media to have a greater impact on the public donations
(Esenberg, 2010). The small donors in the public are the ideologically committed union members,
which are currently having their influence felt through the donations of larger corporations and
Political Action Committees, debates Esenberg (Esenberg, 2010). Incumbents are also the ones who
create the campaign finance rules that govern the process, so he foresees the unlikelihood of
incumbents being willing to set rules that will make it harder to retain their seats (Esenberg, 2010).
For this, the validity of the court s decision surrounding the Campaign Finance Reform Act must be
put into question. Corruption is the root of any ruling to

Aung San Suu Kyi And The Lottery By Shirley Jackson
Different people make the world go round Human clones may make an exceptional story line for a
mainstream science fiction movie. However if we all were clones, our world would lack the diversity
it thrives on. We would be stuck in a humdrum cycle without the diversity others bring. Barbara
Johnson expresses acceptance of diversity by saying We, as human beings, must be willing to accept
people who are different from ourselves. Discrimination, acceptance and tolerance toward diverse
people are values that today s society s struggles with the most. American Flag stands for Tolerance

Allowing people to flourish by their own means gives them the power to dictate their own beliefs.
Whatever these beliefs may be we must learn to accept them through ways presented in Aung San Suu
Kyi s speech in order to avoid disarray. She states the only way out of an impasse of hate , bloodshed
and social and economic chaos credited by men is for those men to get together to find a peaceful
solution ( Suu Kyi CR 12). The answer to peace and acceptance is within the place it was loss,
ourselves. We have to change our instinct to judge people to an instinct of acceptance. Society must
make this change through interaction and conversation, ways brought up in Suu Kyi s speech, with
one another to ultimately understand and accept people different from ourselves. In order for society
to accept people unlike ourselves, we must learn to have tolerance for their views. Emphasis on
differing views and the importance of tolerating them is shown when Ronald J. Allen wrote with
controversy comes debate, enlightenment, and renewed commitment (Allen 20). Tolerating
contrasting ideas to our own brings new arguments and

The Great Pacific Garbage Patch Essay examples
Everybody throws away trash with little or no thought about where it s going. What you might not
know is that a lot of trash goes into our ocean. You may think it is not a big deal and that it s just a
little bit of trash in a really big ocean, but it s not just a little bit of trash. In fact, it s a whole lot. There
is a place between California and Hawaii called the North Pacific Subtropical Gyre, but is better
known as the Great Pacific Garbage Patch . This area is the largest landfill in the world and is
completely in the ocean. What are the effects of the landfill on the environment and how can it be

This is a combination of currents and wind that perform a circular vortex motion that collects trash.
The vortex motion pulls trash in, while the middle is very calm, so it stays in one place. Most people
think of an island filled with trash when they hear the words Garbage Patch. But in reality, these
patches are made of small pieces of plastic, called micro plastics that cannot always be seen by the
naked eye. The satellite images do not show what we think would be a giant patch of garbage.
(National Geographic) The patch is not an island like most people envision, you can t walk on it but is
more of a plastic soup. (Moore). According to the website, ¬How Stuff Works , 90% of this debris is
plastic. That is over 3.5 million pounds of plastic. The patch is a gathering place for all the junk
dumped in our oceans. Some of the most harmful items, such as expanded Styrofoam, polypropylene,
and P.E.T. (polyethylene terephthalate), found in plant fertilizer, has been located in this patch. The
plastic is not biodegradable but is photodegradable. In other words, the larger pieces break down into
smaller pieces, so the patch just gets bigger every day. Approximately 80 percent of the trash is from
the people here on land and the other 20 percent is dumped from ships, fisherman, oil rigs and spilled
containers (How stuff works). The trash does not only affect our ocean but it also

My Happy Place
I walk into a dark cave. It feels mysterious and very uncomforting. I am slowly losing sight of my
surroundings, and then everything becomes completely dark. As I enter I immediately smell the
suffocating smell of dead fish all around me. I bump into the rough sides of the cave as it begins to
narrow. The temperature seems to drop with every step that I take, and the harshly chilling breeze is
constant. I hear rocks crumbling off from the ceiling falling onto the hard ground, echoing through the
darkness. I am alone and all I wish was there to be someone to show me the way out. I suddenly notice
the distant sound of waves crashing against the rocks and then I feel shockingly freezing water
washing over my feet within seconds. I start to run, but eventually the cave comes to an end. I can not
make it any further. Then I feel the chilling salt water creep up my legs and it doesn t stop. There is no
way out.
2. Write a paragraph describing a happy place.
My happy place is nature. I walk along the uncut grassy meadow that is spotted with subtle yellow
flowers. I look out over rolling hills standing tall in the distance. The grass is damp with morning dew
and the sun is just about to rise. The sky is painted with a light pink, and the grass randomly spotted
with golden light. The only sounds I hear are nearby streams and rivers running through the deep
forest. Pine trees surround me, and the air smells like christmas morning. Humming birds fly through
the air, and I spot the

St. James Hospital Department Of Human Resources
Franciscan St. James Hospital Department of Human Resources Most organizations view human
resources departments as less valuable than other departments because it s not a revenue generating
department. However, it is quite the opposite because HR brings the organization its most valuable

Since its birth in November of 1911, Franciscan St. James (Franciscan) has evolved tremendously.
Over the years, it has expanded from a 50 bed acute hospital into one with two campus locations
including Chicago Heights and Olympia Fields, IL (Franciscan Alliance Inc., 2015). Rich in both

Movement of the deltoid begins in the cerebrum of the brain, but more specifically: in the frontal lobe,
the premotor cortex is relaying instructions to the primary motor cortex. The primary motor cortex
contains the upper motor neurons whose axons will travel down the pyramids of the medulla
oblongata and synapse on lower motor neurons in the anterior gray horns of spinal cord segments C5

which splits into two divisions. We will follow the posterior division that supplies to extensor muscles.
This posterior division then runs into the posterior cord from which the axillary nerve is derived. The
axillary nerve s motor end innervates the deltoid through its neuromuscular junction.

If you could imagine design in the future, what would you imagine? A virtual house, flying cars, or
how about holograms. Design is the process to plan or draw the show, look, function or workings of a
building, garment, or other objects before it is built or made. It is twenty seventeen and we have
already begun to see the future. In the past, design was beautiful, but simplistic. Now, everthing is
changing expediently. I speculate that with a touch of your cell phone a house will be produced within

Engineering and design will become more correspondent to one another. We already use engineering
in calculating certain aspects (variables) when creating a new design, but it will officially merge. In
the past, design was done with simple artistic methods such as pencil and paper, but now we have
CAD and many more software programs. New apps will be created, allowing us to do as we please
with such designs. In about twenty years, design will become more evolutionary than ever. From
flying cars to smart houses, 2045 will begin the new destiny of everything revolutionizing. Design is
prevailing with the new technology that we use daily. Designers are always pushing forward with new

Amiri Baraka s 1964 Play, Dutchman
Amiri Baraka s 1964 play, Dutchman, is a prime example of a work that has an allegorical meaning of
the race relationships between African Americans and Caucasians during its time period. A major
theme of this course is studying stories as narratives, in terms of understanding cultural diversity.
Although Dutchman is a play, and not a novel or short story, the interaction between Lula and Clay
assists the audience in conceptualizing black oppression after World War II through the system of
language. This revolutionary work, a product of the 1960s Black Power movement, represents how the
system affects Clay, whom symbolizes the African American population (Lecture 9/3/15). The
interaction between Clay and Lula represents the system of language, in which its linguistic rivalry,
through stereotyping, represents the race relationships of America during the 1960s. Throughout the
play, Lula constantly linguistically challenges Clay. For instance, near the beginning of the play, she
states, You look like you ve been reading Chinese poetry and drinking lukewarm sugarless tea (Lauter,
Yarborough, et al., eds. 2934). After Clay s response she says that she lies often because It helps me
[Lula] control the world (Lauter, Yarborough, et al., eds. 2935). This represents Lula s belief that she
has power over Clay. Her view further intensify once she discovers that Clay is from New Jersey and
attempting to grow a beard (Lauter, Yarborough, et al., eds. 2935). Lula receives more

Conductive Hearing Loss Research Paper
Conductive hearing loss is when there is a problem with the ear canal, ear drum, or middle ear. When
there are problems in the middle ear it s from an issue with the ossicles (malleus, incus, and stapes).
There are several types of causes that can produce conductive hearing loss; deformation of outer ear,
ear canal, or middle ear, fluid in the middle ear, ear infection, allergies, bad Eustachian tube function,
perforated eardrum, benign tumors, impacted earwax, and Otosclerosis (Hearing Loss Association of
America). In any of these cases, conductive hearing loss affects the brain by not allowing the inner ear
transduce the sound waves into neural signals. The brain cannot receive the signals because the
stimulation of sound is being blocked or severely reduced by any of the reasons given above. The
brain is either receiving little to no neurological signals and the brain does not like to be bored (Wolfe,
Kluender, Levi, 2015).
The most common reason conductive hearing loss occurs is otitis media. Otitis media is a buildup of

Infections are treated with antibiotics or other antifungal medication. Chronic ear infections, fluid in

caused by head trauma surgery is also used to correct the damage in the middle ear structures (Hearing

from impacted earwax. As we age, ear wax becomes drier and sticker. This makes it more likely for
the ear wax to build up and become impacted. When this occurs, your hearing will become muffled
because the ear canal is blocked and cannot receive the sound waves as well. This can be treated by
simply having your doctor remove the impacted earwax (HealthinAging,

Managing Resistance to Organizational Change Essay
In the course of considering and implementing change, the need frequently arises for effective
application of the approaches and tools for managing resistance to change (Palmer, Dunford, Akin,
2009). Change often fails from ineffective management of the internal and external forces of
resistance opposing change (Kotter Schlesinger, 2008; Oreg, 2003; Palmer et al., 2009). In response,
this paper discusses the approaches (tools) deemed most essential for managing resistance to change
relative to the scope of the situational contexts in which they might be applied. The discussion centers
on considerations for the multidimensional conceptualizations of resistance that are often ignored in
evaluating alternatives for taking action. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to Piderit (2000), each of these components contributes to an individual s disposition to
resist or support change, which can range along a continuum from strong opposition to ambivalence to
strong support. Oreg (2003) characterizes behavioral responses to change in terms of the perceived
degrees of fairness of both change outcomes (distributive justice) and the change process (procedural
justice), as mediated by differences in personality traits and contextual elements such as self efficacy,
tolerance for change, and social influence. Further conceptualizations of the multidimensional nature
and scope of resistance are captured in goal regulation theory (Meyer, Becker, Vandenberghe, 2004),
which is grounded in theories related to regulatory focus (Higgins, 2002) and self determination (Deci
Ryan, 2008; Gagné Deci, 2005). This integrated theory characterizes varying levels and polarity of
behavioral responses to change relative to affective, normative, or continuance forms of motivation
and commitment. The variation in behavioral responses when plotted on continuums of
intrinsic/extrinsic motivation, internal/external locus of causality, and prevention/promotion focused
regulation reflects the degree to which basic psychological needs of autonomy, competency, and
relatedness are realized during the change

Analysis Of The Book American Way By Gary Althen
I was always interested in understand wf the american (capitalize proper nouns) culture. When I first
came here I noticed that americans are really independent and self reliant individuals, so for the
research I chose the topic American friendship so I could understand better what americans think
about friendship. According to the author of the book American Ways (written by Gary Althen with
Janet Bennet), americans do not like to feel dependent on someone or that someone become V
dependent on them. The author also said that americans have different groups of friends. Friends to go
to the movie, to study, and so on. For my research I interviewed 15 americans, namely 12 students of
the University of Arkansas and 3 older friends of mine (a couple and one other friend) that I met
because of a program of the UofA. The interviewees were between 20 and 50 years of age. Some of
the students I already knew and a few others was s/v random students. My survey had simple
questions that I though sp would be interesting to ask. Such as(P), what do they expect from a

Intentional Salmonella Poisoning Case Study
The followers of Rajneesh wanted and developed a community to have sustainability of their own.
However, with the expanding of the small community to a small city was putting hostility to
neighboring cities in the state of Oregon, which ultimately led to small amounts of biological attacks.
With the community of Rajneesh ever growing, the community needed building permits but kept
getting denied. Finally, the Rjneeshees decided the only way they were going to get the permits was to
control of Wasco County during the elections. To upset the turn out of voters, the Rajneeshees would
poison local restaurants, in Dalles, with salmonella. Intentional salmonella poisoning falls under the

International Non Governmental Organisations Play An...
Introduction
Currently, a lot of global issues are becoming confused and more serious because of globalization.
Since Cold War, the number of conventional war between countries has reduced and it seems that
finally we obtain peaceful world on the surface. However, it is certain that a new type of opposition
has emerged which we call international conflict , and this is more complicated than conventional war
to address resolution. Because of diversity and ambiguity of international conflict, the role of each
actor, for example, the UN, government, and especially NGOs has been broader and more vital to
keep sustainable peace. In this situation, can international non governmental organisations play an
effective role in resolving international conflicts? It seem that the work of NGOs are unfamiliar than
other organisations. In this essay, an argument focuses on what international conflict is, what the
specific role of NGO is in this field, and comparing role of NGO to other actors role mentioning
examples. Besides, at last, some suggestions concerned with this issue will be suggested.
What is the international conflict?
A Conflict is an uncertain concept which is defined such as fight, games and debates (Rapoport,
1960), and this argument is still debatable. There are mainly two kind of traditional conflict which are
consensual conflict and dissensual conflict. This concept is also uncertain academically because each
person has used these concept in different ways or

Kemal Ataturk s Advancement At Gallipoli
Mustafa Kemal Ataturk had a large impact on the Turkish advancement at Gallipoli. His superb
strategising directed the Turkish to take the heights of Gallipoli and banish the Anzacs into the sea.
This resulted in a fundamental increase to the position of the Turkish in World War One, and
incomparable damage to the Allied forces. As a result of Kemal s intuition, intelligence and
understanding of the art of war, the Turkish made a real advancement at Gallipoli and Kemal became a
national hero.
Mustafa Kemal had extensive training and military experience prior to the battle at Gallipoli. This
combined with his inherit intelligence and drive, is what enabled Kemal to exceptionally serve the

Michael Mckernan a historian and writer states; His (Kemal) image is still seen everywhere in Turkey,
on the streets, town squares and in every government building (Mckernan. M). Patrick Carlyon a
journalist and author of The Gallipoli Story supports Mckernan stating; Today every Turkish banknote
carries his image (Kemal), every village has a statue of him and to speak ill of his memory is against
the law (Carlyon. P). This displays the great respect and gratitude that Turkey has for Kemal s service
in the war. Harvey Broadbent, Gallipoli Campaign historian, specialist in Turkish, Anatolian, and
Eastern Mediterranean History states that; One Legacy of Mustafa Kemal Ataturk rarely fails to touch
the hearts of those who visit the northern cemetery at Anzac cove. The speech Broadbent is referring
to, is the one spoken by Kemal at the Turkish Assembly and delivered to an Anzac delegation visiting
Gallipoli. The speech follows; Those heroes that shed their blood and lost their lives ... You are now
lying in the soil of a friendly country. Therefore rest in peace.... You mothers, who sent their sons from
faraway countries wipe away the tears. Your sons are now lying in our bosom and are in peace after
having lost their lives on this land. They have become our sons as well. This speech greatly impacted
not only how the Turkish viewed Kemal as a person, but had a large impact on his reputation in other

Volkswagen Cause And Effects
CAUSES AND EFFECTS OF VOLKSWAGEN COURT SETTLEMENT
Although many individuals are unaware of the TDI diesel emissions court settlement between
Volkswagen and their customers; there are two causes and several effects. John German discovered
the Volkswagen emissions scandal. It turns out that, the lawsuit came about due to cheating software
that Volkswagen installed in their 2.0 and 3.0 liter diesel vehicles. In turn, a few effects of the cheating
software resulted in a 14.7 billion dollar lawsuit between Volkswagen and their buyers, disappointed
customers, and huge inconveniences (Bartlett,2017). Due to the software installed in TDI diesel
vehicles, there are up to 11 million vehicles affected.
In May of 2014, John German discovered, and went public about the Volkswagen emissions scandal
(Kretchmer, 2015). John German is a senior co lead for the International Council on Clean
Transportation. Mr. German has worked for the Washington based Environmental Protection Agency
for 13 years, which indicates that he knows what the requirements and enforcement are. German
partnered with West Virginia University and conducted the ICCT study. During the ICCT study,
German noticed detrimental nitrogen oxide emission levels; which leads him to think Volkswagen
diesel cars were malfunctioning. German felt vehicles were malfunctioning because they were passing
emissions testing, yet the vehicles had up to 35 times permitted levels of nitrogen oxide.

Examples Of False Memory Eyewitness Testimony
False Memories and Eyewitness Testimony Once in a while we all like to reminisce and think of the
past at some point. We remember our favorite toy, our best friends, favorite movie, and past memories,
but what if what we think we know is just something that our mind has created for us. That specific
event that we were so certain happened never actually did. We remember the colors the smells the
people that were there, but it never really happened. This crazy phenomenon is called False Memory
syndrome. What is a false memory you ask? Well, according to psychology expert Kendra Cherry, a
false memory is a fabricated or distorted recollection of an event that did not actually happen (Cherry).
We often think often think that our minds are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Loftus realizes that, the length of time between the incident and being interviewed about an event
plays a role in how suggestible people are to false memory. These false memories can be formed
because the memory wasn t encoded in the correct places to begin with (Cherry). We as humans tend
to see things that aren t really there and we being to form our own opinions of an event. In some
instances, we might hear certain key words and this leads us to form complete sentences to support
those key words. Our long term memories are also susceptible to change. When information is
encoded, it can lead us to remember an event a different way. False memories are formed when,
neurons first encode in our cortex and hippocampus. Each time a memory is recalled, it is re encoded
by a similar, but not the identical, set of neurons

The Theory Of Child Rearing
1. Dr. John Watson, in his advocation in favor of nurture stated essentially, as we had discussed in
some of our class sessions, that his approach to child rearing would have a direct impact on outcomes.
It could be argued that child rearing is the one thing that could counter cultural influences as being
more impactful. We discussed closed cultures such as those from the east where members work in a
collectivist way to benefit society as a whole. Then we have the individualist societies similar to the
western cultures where individual achievement for self is considered to be of more value. Which I
believe contributes more to selfishness and an over emphasis on the aspects of I. This also takes me
back to the behavior modification class I had as an undergraduate. That there are certain ways to
behave in different social settings that may be presented to us on a daily basis. Such as we all behave
differently in a social settings such as, school, work, home, the mall, etc.. Behaviors in one location
may be acceptable but not another location. A good example would be that you can walk around naked
in the privacy of your own home but not at school. While a closed, collectivist culture may look down
upon what they may perceive as negative behaviors of those in their group, other outsiders from other
cultures may be given some slack because they don t know proper behavior, even if they are trying.
Those from these collectivist societies that travel to the west cannot

experience obtained throughout the Buxton trip. The key skills attained throughout the trip might be
characterized as Team work, Communication skills, Self confidence, Time management and
Leadership. I am happy that I had a chance to take part in this trip and examine the skills both as an
individual and additionally as a member of a group. I have discussed about both the positive and
negative factors that I came across and the steps that I have taken to enhance my confidence and

The togetherness among the group and the individual s performance dependably assume a key part in
choosing the group s potential and their capability to meet the targets (Nicky Hayes, 2002). On the
next day when we performing a task I experienced an issue. One of our team members who was going
to initiate the task had not given enough preparation. This transformed into a misunderstanding around
ourselves which implied that we couldn t complete the task in the given time. At that point I
understood the need of initiative in our group. Leadership is the nature of planning togetherness
among the people to attain a common objective (Richard, W. 2008). The leader might have any formal
power yet ought to demonstrate the capability to make the whole group in including mutual
cooperation, conduct, practicality, qualities, and at last enhancing the potential of the individuals of
the team. In a lot of people with daily circumstances, togetherness have a tendency to be more gainful
and effective when they have a leader to guide them (Wendell, L. 1998). I had a chance to lead my
group throughout the following task. In the beginning stage, I couldn t deal with my group as there
was no consideration of my ideas to perform the task. Everybody was taking after distinctive
techniques to finish the task. At that point I understood the circumstances and made myself continue

Charles Darwin Social Influence
One of the most influential thinkers in science, Charles Darwin was a man with an immense devotion
to pursuing the relationship between himself and the world around him.
In his article on the legacy of Darwin, Burghardt (2009) praised not only Darwin s genuine interest in
culture, human psychology, and all aspects of natural history, but also his behavioral observations and
interpretations of the animals and peoples of the areas he visited (p.103). His inclination to find reason
through observational and exploratory research cemented his contributions to the knowledge of human
development. Darwin s theories are still at the forefront of psychological research, lecture, and debate,
and are the basis for many different areas of study within ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Darwin (1860) never attempted to find a clear location of animal instinct but rather, compared
instincts to malleable, habitual experiences carried across individuals of similar species (p.207). He
concluded that natural selection could play a role in the gradual development of instincts, and
theorized that variations of competing behaviors among different animals result of this phenomenon.
In, The Organism and its Behavior, Krout (1933), relays Darwin s attitudes of instinct, who spoke of
instincts as chains of reflexes but treated them as mental faculties , which impel animals to perform
certain actions (p. 87). Today s ethologists take Darwin s approach to instinct, and emphasize the role
of experience in shaping human behavior. Fear, a trait observed by Darwin in various species of birds,
is certainly an instinctive quality, as may be seen in nestling birds, though it is strengthened by
experience, and by the sight of fear of the same enemy in other animals. But fear of man is slowly
acquired (Darwin, 1860). The natural world, according the Darwin, has a direct effect on the
everchanging traits of an organism, whether habitual or instinctive. The constant shift of
environmental factors influences humans and nonhumans to form habits, and potentially, instincts.
This comparative approach has opened the doors to new ideas about behavior in humans

Analysis Of Lord Of The Flies
Intro: Give title and author. Background.
In Lord of the Flies by John Steinback a group of young boys are stranded on an island. To survive the
boys decided to vote who should be their leader, Ralph or Jack. Piggy is a smart, fat boy who is not
respected by the boys. Ralph is the face of leadership but not the best for the job compared to Piggy.
Piggy is the brains behind Ralph who gives the essential idea to further progress the island.
Ralph is the face of leadership and according to everyone but Piggy the best for the job. In this
passage the boys are taking a vote on who should be the leader for the island. Vote for chief! Let s vote
This toy of voting was almost as pleasing as the conch. Jack started to protest but the clamor changed
from the general wish for a chief to an election by acclaim of Ralph himself. None of the boys could
have found good reason for this; what intelligence had been shown was traceable to Piggy while the
most obvious leader was Jack. But there was a stillness about Ralph as he sat that marked him out:
there was his size, and attractive appearance; and most obscurely, yet most powerfully, there was the
conch. The being that had blown that, had sat waiting for them on the platform with the delicate thing
balanced on his knees, was set apart. Him with the shell. Ralph! Ralph! Let him be chief with the
trumpet thing. Ralph raised a hand for silence. All right. Who wants Jack for chief? With dreary
obedience the choir raised their

The Importance Of A Family Intervention For Heart Failure...
Extraneous variables are undesirable variables that influence the outcome of an experiment, though
they are not the variables that are of actual interest (Grove, Burns, Gray, 2013). Family influence
could be an extraneous variable that would need to be addressed. Establishing a family intervention
would control this extraneous variable. There are few family intervention studies for heart failure.
Many patient education guidelines promote inclusion of family in teaching heart failure patients. The
structure and nature of family relationships are important to mortality and morbidity. It is clear that
those patients living alone are a vulnerable group to target. Isolation leads to depression, which could
relate to poor self care behaviors. Family interventions have shown to improve outcomes and lower
patient hospital readmission (Dunbar, Clark, Quinn, Gary, Kaslow, 2008). A research instrument is a
survey, questionnaire, test, scale, rating, or tool designed to measure variables, characteristics, or
information of interest. Several factors should be considered before choosing an assessment
instrument: the purpose of assessment, the type of assessment outcomes, resource availability, cost,
methodology, the amount of time required, reliability, and the audience expectations (Bastos, et al.,
2014). The Self care Heart Failure Index (SCHFI) is the existing instrument that will be utilized in my
research study. SCHFI measures 3 domains of self care: self care

  • 2. Iron From The Anglo-Saxon Word Iron (Fe) The element I am researching is Iron(Fe). Iron could be used in many ways. Iron is a ductile, gray, relatively soft metal and is a moderately good conductor of heat and electricity. 2.It is attracted by magnets and can be readily magnetized. 3. The pure metal is chemically very reactive and rusts readily in moist air, forming red brown oxides. Rust is iron oxide and when it is hydrated, it rusts. Where did iron get its name? Paragraph 2 From the Anglo Saxon word iron or Iren (the origin of the symbol Fe comes from the Latin word ferrum meaning iron ). 2.Possibly the word iron is derived from earlier words meaning holy metal because it was used to make the swords used in the Crusades. 3. • 3. Effects of British Colonial Rule in India Abtract The colonization of India and the immense transfer of wealth that moved from the latter to Britain were vital to the success of the British Empire. In fact, the Viceroy of British India in 1894 called India the pivot of our Empire ... I examine the effects of the Industrial Revolution on the subcontinent. Besides highlighting the fact that without cheap labor and raw materials from India, the modernization of Britain during this era would have been highly unlikely, I will show how colonial policy led to the privation and death of millions of natives. I conclude that while India undoubtedly benefited from British colonial rule, the negatives for the subject population far outweighed the positives. . Colonialism, by definition, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Second, British India, which included today s India, Pakistan and Bangladesh, was a region so large that there were areas in which Britain exercised direct control over the subject population and others where it exerted indirect control. It is exceedingly difficult, therefore, to extrapolate from one experience to another. Although it is impossible to determine how India would have developed had England never established a dominating presence there, I find the results of British colonialism to have been a mixed bag for India: the negatives, however, far outweighed the positives. Liberal and democratic aspects of British colonialism in India played a significant role in leading to a democratic South Asia following Indian independence in 1947. Yet, the British first through the East India Company and then through direct government control held almost all of the political and economic power in India during the Empire s expansion and apogee, guaranteeing the Indian economy could not evolve and/or function independent of the ruling power s control; ensuring raw materials extracted from Indian soil would go towards British manufacturing industries mostly without profiting the vast majority of Indians; and leading to lives of privation for millions of indigenous subjects. Anglo Saxon Warriors Anglo Saxon Warriors The loud scream of the Anglo Saxon warrior was heard as he takes his last breath during battle. His blood and guts pour out from the inside, fighting with no power left, his sword held high above his head, he drops to his knees, to his death. The Anglo Saxon society was built on vengeance and feuds. Starting in the Fifth Century, German Anglo Saxon warriors destroyed many towns and drove out many native residents in England. Soon, they took the crown in England and for about a decade the Anglo Saxon people migrated to different countries, taking their blood feud with them. This meant that, with the death of a kingsman, a man was expected to avenge his death. Cite). Life as an Anglo Saxon Warrior. The anglo saxons were like modern day isis The Anglo Saxon society, as a whole, revolved around warfare. Freemen and even teenagers were made into warriors and expected to fight during battle. Servants fought for their lords while freemen were rewarded with land. Anglo Saxon armies were usually small, with only a few hundred men. The soldiers carried a variety of different weapons: spears, axes, swords, and bows and arrows. When it comes to their armor however, there was not much protection seeing as they did not wear metal plate armor, but chainmail. This was most likely to make it easier to maneuver, walk, and battle on foot. They wore helmets on their heads however they mainly carried wooden shields. Everyone fought on foot during a battle.. • 6. Essay on The Lonely Death of Public Campaign Financing Marquette University s Assistant Professor of Law, Richard Esenberg, is doubtful of the effectiveness of a project that will restructure campaign finance. He foresees the near impossibility of the passage of a bill, along with many drawbacks in similar attempts to miraculously restore democracy to American citizens. Although this is a greatly debated and doubtful topic, there is still hope in the power of the people. While there may be instances where wealthy donors provide a better democratic election, in a land of the people; the majority of the voting population should control the few politicians that run the government. Esenberg s beginning argument relies strongly on the evidence that the money spent on campaign finance is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although this is only a small difference, it has major ramifications for the amount of money that is desirable for donors to give. This, in effect, could mean that the idea of the limit itself is more powerful than the actual limit set. Esenberg goes on to reiterate that the Supreme Court s ruling on candidate fundraising; stating that the ability for candidates to bring in donations is considered a legal advantage amongst candidates (Esenberg, 2010). Limiting this ability would benefit the candidates that are not strong in gathering donations. This is solely based on the communicating and networking factor of candidates. Reducing the power of candidates would allow the media to have a greater impact on the public donations (Esenberg, 2010). The small donors in the public are the ideologically committed union members, which are currently having their influence felt through the donations of larger corporations and Political Action Committees, debates Esenberg (Esenberg, 2010). Incumbents are also the ones who create the campaign finance rules that govern the process, so he foresees the unlikelihood of incumbents being willing to set rules that will make it harder to retain their seats (Esenberg, 2010). For this, the validity of the court s decision surrounding the Campaign Finance Reform Act must be put into question. Corruption is the root of any ruling to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

However if we all were clones, our world would lack the diversity it thrives on. We would be stuck in a humdrum cycle without the diversity others bring. Barbara Johnson expresses acceptance of diversity by saying We, as human beings, must be willing to accept people who are different from ourselves. Allowing people to flourish by their own means gives them the power to dictate their own beliefs. Whatever these beliefs may be we must learn to accept them through ways presented in Aung San Suu Kyi s speech in order to avoid disarray. She states the only way out of an impasse of hate , bloodshed and social and economic chaos credited by men is for those men to get together to find a peaceful solution ( Suu Kyi CR 12). The answer to peace and acceptance is within the place it was loss, ourselves. We have to change our instinct to judge people to an instinct of acceptance. Society must make this change through interaction and conversation, ways brought up in Suu Kyi s speech, with one another to ultimately understand and accept people different from ourselves. In order for society to accept people unlike ourselves, we must learn to have tolerance for their views. Emphasis on differing views and the importance of tolerating them is shown when Ronald J. Allen wrote with controversy comes debate, enlightenment, and renewed commitment (Allen 20). Tolerating contrasting ideas to our own brings new arguments and Sears 3 points to the surface that would have otherwise been left unaddressed. This is a combination of currents and wind that perform a circular vortex motion that collects trash. The vortex motion pulls trash in, while the middle is very calm, so it stays in one place. Most people think of an island filled with trash when they hear the words Garbage Patch. But in reality, these patches are made of small pieces of plastic, called micro plastics that cannot always be seen by the naked eye. The satellite images do not show what we think would be a giant patch of garbage. (National Geographic) The patch is not an island like most people envision, you can t walk on it but is more of a plastic soup. (Moore). According to the website, ¬How Stuff Works , 90% of this debris is plastic. That is over 3.5 million pounds of plastic. The patch is a gathering place for all the junk dumped in our oceans. Some of the most harmful items, such as expanded Styrofoam, polypropylene, and P.E.T. (polyethylene terephthalate), found in plant fertilizer, has been located in this patch. The plastic is not biodegradable but is photodegradable. In other words, the larger pieces break down into smaller pieces, so the patch just gets bigger every day. As I enter I immediately smell the suffocating smell of dead fish all around me. I bump into the rough sides of the cave as it begins to narrow. The temperature seems to drop with every step that I take, and the harshly chilling breeze is constant. I hear rocks crumbling off from the ceiling falling onto the hard ground, echoing through the darkness. I am alone and all I wish was there to be someone to show me the way out. I suddenly notice the distant sound of waves crashing against the rocks and then I feel shockingly freezing water washing over my feet within seconds. The primary motor cortex contains the upper motor neurons whose axons will travel down the pyramids of the medulla oblongata and synapse on lower motor neurons in the anterior gray horns of spinal cord segments C5 C6. From there, the ventral rami of spinal nerves C5 C6 form the superior trunk of the brachial plexus, which splits into two divisions. Design is the process to plan or draw the show, look, function or workings of a building, garment, or other objects before it is built or made. It is twenty seventeen and we have already begun to see the future. In the past, design was beautiful, but simplistic. Now, everthing is changing expediently. I speculate that with a touch of your cell phone a house will be produced within seconds. • 14. Amiri Baraka s 1964 Play, Dutchman Amiri Baraka s 1964 play, Dutchman, is a prime example of a work that has an allegorical meaning of the race relationships between African Americans and Caucasians during its time period. A major theme of this course is studying stories as narratives, in terms of understanding cultural diversity. Although Dutchman is a play, and not a novel or short story, the interaction between Lula and Clay assists the audience in conceptualizing black oppression after World War II through the system of language. This revolutionary work, a product of the 1960s Black Power movement, represents how the system affects Clay, whom symbolizes the African American population (Lecture 9/3/15). The interaction between Clay and Lula represents the system of language, in which its linguistic rivalry, through stereotyping, represents the race relationships of America during the 1960s. Throughout the play, Lula constantly linguistically challenges Clay. For instance, near the beginning of the play, she states, You look like you ve been reading Chinese poetry and drinking lukewarm sugarless tea (Lauter, Yarborough, et al., eds. 2934). After Clay s response she says that she lies often because It helps me [Lula] control the world (Lauter, Yarborough, et al., eds. 2935). This represents Lula s belief that she has power over Clay. When there are problems in the middle ear it s from an issue with the ossicles (malleus, incus, and stapes). There are several types of causes that can produce conductive hearing loss; deformation of outer ear, ear canal, or middle ear, fluid in the middle ear, ear infection, allergies, bad Eustachian tube function, perforated eardrum, benign tumors, impacted earwax, and Otosclerosis (Hearing Loss Association of America). In any of these cases, conductive hearing loss affects the brain by not allowing the inner ear transduce the sound waves into neural signals. The brain cannot receive the signals because the stimulation of sound is being blocked or severely reduced by any of the reasons given above. The brain is either receiving little to no neurological signals and the brain does not like to be bored (Wolfe, Kluender, Levi, 2015). • 21. Managing Resistance to Organizational Change Essay In the course of considering and implementing change, the need frequently arises for effective application of the approaches and tools for managing resistance to change (Palmer, Dunford, Akin, 2009). Change often fails from ineffective management of the internal and external forces of resistance opposing change (Kotter Schlesinger, 2008; Oreg, 2003; Palmer et al., 2009). In response, this paper discusses the approaches (tools) deemed most essential for managing resistance to change relative to the scope of the situational contexts in which they might be applied. The discussion centers on considerations for the multidimensional conceptualizations of resistance that are often ignored in evaluating alternatives for taking action. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... According to Piderit (2000), each of these components contributes to an individual s disposition to resist or support change, which can range along a continuum from strong opposition to ambivalence to strong support. Oreg (2003) characterizes behavioral responses to change in terms of the perceived degrees of fairness of both change outcomes (distributive justice) and the change process (procedural justice), as mediated by differences in personality traits and contextual elements such as self efficacy, tolerance for change, and social influence. Further conceptualizations of the multidimensional nature and scope of resistance are captured in goal regulation theory (Meyer, Becker, Vandenberghe, 2004), which is grounded in theories related to regulatory focus (Higgins, 2002) and self determination (Deci Ryan, 2008; Gagné Deci, 2005). This integrated theory characterizes varying levels and polarity of behavioral responses to change relative to affective, normative, or continuance forms of motivation and commitment. The variation in behavioral responses when plotted on continuums of intrinsic/extrinsic motivation, internal/external locus of causality, and prevention/promotion focused regulation reflects the degree to which basic psychological needs of autonomy, competency, and relatedness are realized during the change ... • 29. The Theory Of Child Rearing 1. Dr. John Watson, in his advocation in favor of nurture stated essentially, as we had discussed in some of our class sessions, that his approach to child rearing would have a direct impact on outcomes. It could be argued that child rearing is the one thing that could counter cultural influences as being more impactful. We discussed closed cultures such as those from the east where members work in a collectivist way to benefit society as a whole. Then we have the individualist societies similar to the western cultures where individual achievement for self is considered to be of more value. Which I believe contributes more to selfishness and an over emphasis on the aspects of I. This also takes me back to the behavior modification class I had as an undergraduate. That there are certain ways to behave in different social settings that may be presented to us on a daily basis. Such as we all behave differently in a social settings such as, school, work, home, the mall, etc.. Behaviors in one location may be acceptable but not another location. A good example would be that you can walk around naked in the privacy of your own home but not at school. While a closed, collectivist culture may look down upon what they may perceive as negative behaviors of those in their group, other outsiders from other cultures may be given some slack because they don t know proper behavior, even if they are trying. In his article on the legacy of Darwin, Burghardt (2009) praised not only Darwin s genuine interest in culture, human psychology, and all aspects of natural history, but also his behavioral observations and interpretations of the animals and peoples of the areas he visited (p.103). His inclination to find reason through observational and exploratory research cemented his contributions to the knowledge of human development. Darwin (1860) never attempted to find a clear location of animal instinct but rather, compared instincts to malleable, habitual experiences carried across individuals of similar species (p.207). He concluded that natural selection could play a role in the gradual development of instincts, and theorized that variations of competing behaviors among different animals result of this phenomenon. In, The Organism and its Behavior, Krout (1933), relays Darwin s attitudes of instinct, who spoke of instincts as chains of reflexes but treated them as mental faculties , which impel animals to perform certain actions (p. 87). Today s ethologists take Darwin s approach to instinct, and emphasize the role of experience in shaping human behavior. Fear, a trait observed by Darwin in various species of birds, is certainly an instinctive quality, as may be seen in nestling birds, though it is strengthened by experience, and by the sight of fear of the same enemy in other animals. But fear of man is slowly acquired (Darwin, 1860). The natural world, according the Darwin, has a direct effect on the everchanging traits of an organism, whether habitual or instinctive. The constant shift of environmental factors influences humans and nonhumans to form habits, and potentially, instincts. Ralph is the face of leadership but not the best for the job compared to Piggy. Piggy is the brains behind Ralph who gives the essential idea to further progress the island. Ralph is the face of leadership and according to everyone but Piggy the best for the job. In this passage the boys are taking a vote on who should be the leader for the island. Vote for chief! Let s vote This toy of voting was almost as pleasing as the conch. Jack started to protest but the clamor changed from the general wish for a chief to an election by acclaim of Ralph himself. None of the boys could have found good reason for this; what intelligence had been shown was traceable to Piggy while the most obvious leader was Jack. But there was a stillness about Ralph as he sat that marked him out: there was his size, and attractive appearance; and most obscurely, yet most powerfully, there was the conch. The being that had blown that, had sat waiting for them on the platform with the delicate thing balanced on his knees, was set apart. Him with the shell. Ralph! Ralph! • 33. The Importance Of A Family Intervention For Heart Failure... Extraneous variables are undesirable variables that influence the outcome of an experiment, though they are not the variables that are of actual interest (Grove, Burns, Gray, 2013). Family influence could be an extraneous variable that would need to be addressed. Establishing a family intervention would control this extraneous variable. There are few family intervention studies for heart failure. Many patient education guidelines promote inclusion of family in teaching heart failure patients. The structure and nature of family relationships are important to mortality and morbidity. It is clear that those patients living alone are a vulnerable group to target. Isolation leads to depression, which could relate to poor self care behaviors. Family interventions have shown to improve outcomes and lower patient hospital readmission (Dunbar, Clark, Quinn, Gary, Kaslow, 2008). A research instrument is a survey, questionnaire, test, scale, rating, or tool designed to measure variables, characteristics, or information of interest. Several factors should be considered before choosing an assessment instrument: the purpose of assessment, the type of assessment outcomes, resource availability, cost, methodology, the amount of time required, reliability, and the audience expectations (Bastos, et al., 2014).
