Iraq War Failure
The invasion and the war in Iraq remains a continuous topic of divisiveness and sensitivity in today
s America. One of the negative evaluation of the war is attributed to the false impression of the
length of the war which lasted seven years, not six months as presumed in 2003. As the invasion
initiated, the ideologies of American government then failed to perceive the large number of troops
required, casualties and the financial toll in the interest of the preventive war doctrine. However,
when weighing the failures of this war, there are successes brought home that relate mostly to the
lessons the American military and the government learned with the use of counterinsurgency tactics
after winning the hearts and minds of Iraqis (Young). Nevertheless, with evaluation through levels
of analysis, the accomplished agenda of ending Saddam Hussein s regime justifies success and
failure, mutually.
When one thinks of Iraq war, the two key players are perceived to be George W. Bushand Saddam
Hussein. As leaders of the opposing sides, they are also perceived as the decision makers. In the
individual and sub group levels of analysis, toppling of the Hussein s regime in Iraq was a success.

The disbanding of the Iraqi army and debathification or dismantling of the government in place
only served to increase the casualties of American troops and Iraqi civilians as the radical Sunni
insurgency expanded. This point of cause and effect, clash of two distinct political and cultural
worlds, defined this war for the generation serving, at home and the future generations. The threat
of increasing terrorism after the attack of September 11, 2001 was one of the driving force of
invasion of Iraq. However, in one analysis the increase of global terrorism today is told to be well
contributed by the conflicts that were fueled by the western presence in Iraq and the surrounding

The Invention Of The Braille Alphabet
Most ideas take off with great aspirations, great faith and support but only result in disappointment.
Then there s those few and far between ideas that leave marks in history and prove themselves
successful something that will change the world. Braille is one of those rare inventions. It is a
written form of language that allows the blind and visually impaired to be literate. The invention of
the BrailleAlphabet had a significant impact on world by allowing the blind and visually impaired
to act competitively and successfully in society, making buildings more accessible for all people,
and also reducing the number of homeless. Its invention has impacted society in such way that must
be noted.
Louis Braille is the man who invented Braille. He was born in Coupvray, France on January 4,
1809. He was born sighted, but at the age of three he became fully blind. His blindness was the
aftermath of playing with a sharp tool in his father s workshop (who had been the local harness
maker), where he injured himself. Although his parents, Simon RenГ© Braille and Monique
Braille, provided him with the best care available, the early 1800 s lack of medical advancement
proved itself true. His injury created an infection in his one eye, and soon lead to the other, leaving
him completely blind. Prior to attending a school specifically for the blind, Louis was an eager
student at a public school, learning solely through listening. Later, at the age of 16, Louis attended

America Needs to Invest the Social Security Trust Fund...
America Needs to Invest the Social Security Trust Fund
Our nation ensures social welfare through Social Security. However, the United States cannot
ensure the welfare of its own welfare system. To save Social Security, Americans in general do not
favor an increase in the payroll tax, a cut in benefits or an increase in the retirement age.
Furthermore, Americans are relying upon Social Security as their sole source of income at
increasingly alarming rates. Social Security is intended to supplement retiree income, not account
for 100% of it. Through elimination of the potential options, that leaves one necessary action: invest
the Social Security trust fund in the stock market.
According to the San Francisco Chronicle (Social ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Examine the absolute worst case scenario: the market crashes and the $700 billion investment is
worth $0. In this event, there would still be about $2 trillion in a trust fund. Furthermore, The
President proposes that beneficiaries have the so called safety net feature of a basic, monthly
retirement stipend, rather than leaving future retirees entirely at the mercy of the stock market and
their own investment savvy.
Investing the Social Security trust fund in the stock market only allows us, as beneficiaries and
future beneficiaries, the potential to receive benefits from a social welfare system that would
otherwise risk extinction, commonly known as bankruptcy.
Of course there is the issue of who would make the actual investments. Many people are
concerned that their Social Security money will be controlled by politicians who might have their
own special interests or political agendas. The President proposes that the money be invested in
broad based stock indexes similar to the Standard Poor s Index under the control of a private Social
Security Investment Board, as independent in theory as the Federal Reserve. Currently the Federal
Reserve regulates and monitors the economy. To date, there have been no reports of conflict of
interest within the Federal Reserve. Therefore, an independent management board for Social

Compare And Contrast The Hegelian Analysis Of Libido Vs...
The Hegelian understanding of the master slave dialectic tells us that when two beings that have
not yet achieved self consciousness come in contact with one another, they engage in a conflict
to try to identify self consciousness, and the only way to do that is to realize self consciousness
through comparison with the other person. This conflict between two people leads to a struggle
to the death where one person values life over liberty, and the other values liberty over life, and
whoever values life over liberty thus concedes and is identified as the slave, making the other the
master. What this paper aims to analyze is how we can use the Hegelian master slave dialecticto
understand or contrast the Freudian analysis of libido versus the... Show more content on

First, we can associate the master who is extensively discussed by Hegel to the superego theory
discussed by Freud. By doing so, we are giving the superego part of the mind which is in other
words the conscious part of the brain the role of a master. Besides, the master in Hegel s
assertions is considered to have the full consciousness after defeating the other being in the
struggle. Similarly, the slave will be associated to ego and Id; despite the slave playing a pivotal
role in the struggle for freedom just like the ego and id struggles to have full control of the mind,
he or she loses the battle to the master who in turn ends up controlling him. This is explicitly what
happens to the Id and the ego; they are unable to control the mind due their unconsciousness, but the
conscious part superego overrides them. Thus, the idea of the slave and the master closely
intertwines to the concept of psychoanalysis as explained by Freud Sigmund. In other words, Freud
seemingly confirms that those who are strong and aware of what they are doing in life, will have
full control of the weak and those who cannot distinguish between what is wrong and what is right.
Conclusively, this discussion has established that several theories are used to explain human
existence. This is evident from the Freud interpretation about what parts of the mind dominate others

The Effects Of Nazi Policies On European Jews
Analyse the effects of Nazi policies on European Jews between 1933 1945 The Nazi Policies
were deliberately directed towards European Jews between 1933 1945. They were strictly
enforced to persecute Jews, limit their freedom, rights and opinions. These policies include
Aryanization, The two Nuremberg Laws and The Final solution which led to serious
consequences making it one of the greatest tragedies in history. The result of these policies were
overt and deliberate persecution, imprisonment, torture and death of around six million Jews.
On September 15th 1935, during an annual rally, Hitler released The Nuremberg Laws which
consisted of two policies which were purposefully enforced to exclude Jews from German life.
There were two major policies which were enforced where, The Law of the Reich Citizen and
The Law for the Protection of German Blood and German Honour . Each law was designed to
effect German Jews in a certain way which were all a part of the anti semitic Nazi regime s plan.
The first law being The Law of the Reich Citizen was designed to deprive Jews of their German
citizenship, a secondary source outlines the effects of this law, the one denied them civil rights and
even German citizenships, despite the fact that many German Jews had ancestors in Germany
going back centuries. The Law of the Reich Citizen was particularly designed to exclude Jews
from Germans, almost as if to label them as a threat and outsiders, stripping away their value as
humans.

Myths About Going Through Debate Essay
3 Myths About Going Through Probate After you pass away, your family will need to go
through probate to validate your will. Once everything is verified, your assets can be divided
according to your intentions. The benefit of probate is that it will clarify your will to your family,
making sure there are not any misunderstanding or arguments about what you desired.
Unfortunately, there are some myths about probate that you may have heard that simply are not
true. All Estates Go Through Probate If you have a will then probate will be necessary for
verification of the will and dividing assets. However, there are alternatives to having a will if you
do not want your family to go through probate. One way to do this is through living trusts, which...

This is not always true, especially if the debts that you owe are more than the inheritance you
planned on leaving behind. If you are able to make your family aware that you have too many
debts, you can save them the hassle of going through probate. It would not be worth it if you are
certain there is no inheritance in the final outcome. Probate Will Take A Long Time To Go
Through The larger an estate is, the longer the probate process will take. Court fees, attorney s
fees, accounting fees, appraisal fees, and even bond fees will minimize your family s
inheritance. You can limit the length of the probate process by reducing the size of your estate
prior to your death. Trusts have already been discussed as one option, but you can also give
assets away through custodial accounts or gifts. Each year you are allowed to give up to
$14,000 to family members without worrying about the consequences of taxes. Make sure to plan
accordingly. Now that you are aware of a few myths about probate, you can prepare yourself for
what your loved ones will have to deal with after you pass

The Musical Theatre Of America
Musical Theatre in America
Before the 20th century, people used music and dancing to tell stories, but it had nothing to do with
developing musical theater. Musical theatre is a type of play that tells a story through songs,
spoken dialogue, and dancing. During the 20th century, there was a lot of change going on in
Musical Theatre. Musicals are different from other types of stage works such as opera because a
musical would not be a musical without the music, story line, or dancing. European operetta was
becoming more popular than American Musical Theatre. The two main types of opera that were
being made were called ballad operas and comic operas which had romantic plots. American
composers sought to come up with something new, since Musical Theatre was not very popular
with the general public. There were a lot of components that helped shape musical theatre in
America , but most think that it was mainly developed because of the different tastes developing,
likeable styles, spirit and energy by composers in America, it was not. Although musical theaters
origins are not certain, Musical theatre gradually developed using influences of ballad opera, comic
opera, operetta, vaudeville, and burlesque.
Musical theatre had not been called musicals , although there were previous stage entertainments.
Before the 20th century there was a reported first musical written entitled The Disappointment was
a ballad opera that was taken from rehearsal because it contained

The Impact Of Television And Its Impact On Society
Throughout the years, TV has impacted us in several ways. Yet, who knows where TV will be
in our years to come. As we continue to become more technologically advanced, the use of
television will soon be a game changer. As we take a look back on the history of TV, we first
started off the television industry with black and white pictures. Since it was an upbringing at the
time, it was not as clear and the pictures would appear pixelated. Although that seemed to change
as devices such as cameras and scanning systems seemed to progress over time. In 1936 John Logie
Baird, an inventor of amplified mechanical televisions, had first started off with 240 lines. Now,
we live in a generation where we ve tremendously evolved in regards to our high definition as
1080 is the norm. As we move on from black and white, individuals were now introduced to color
television. It made TV more enjoyable and the quality continued to improve. Another
advancement that developed throughout the years would be time shifting. In other words, this
was known as video tape recorders. This device amazed individuals as they were able to record a
show and watch it at a more suitable time. However, DVDs soon took the place of VHS recorders
as it became more convenient. With all these technological improvements, the one that seemed to
have a greatest impact on society would be the introduction of digital television. The picture quality
was more clear and made TV worth watching. Also, people had

Urban Politics Of The Brazil
Urban politics of poverty in Brazil have been highly publicized over the past few years. In large
part, this is due to capital spending on the creation and renovation of stadiums for the World Cup in
2014 and the Summer Olympics in 2016. Imagine waking up every morning and walking outside to
slum like conditions. Right next to those slum like conditions are brand new athletic stadiums that
will primarily used for about a month. It must be infuriating seeing public money be spent on flashy
buildings, meanwhile, homes, parks, schools, and more are not given nearly enough funding that is
required for complacency. Yet, much of what an individual sees may be interpreted differently.

Urban politics in Brazil happen to be the exact reason why housing, transportation, inner city crime,
and more happen to occur in the favelas. Brazil is suffering from inconsistent political agendas
which ultimately, has created collective effort by citizens to riot against uneven development. All
throughout Brazil they built new state of the art stadiums, meanwhile there was a massive issue of
poverty occurring. Favelas in Brazil can be found throughout the country. Most famously, Rochina,
a favela in Rio De Janeiro sits massively entrenched on a hill in between a mountain range. Just
below Rochina lies Rio s developed downtown area. MaracanГЈ, a local stadium in Brazil that was
subject to much criticism, just miles away from Rochina was renovated heavily to be the standard
for all stadiums. Accord to NPR, further outcry embellished when a brand new stadium in Manaus
was built. Manaus is located in the middle of the Amazonas state (in the Amazon Rainforest) and
it is only accessible by boat or plane. That is how far out of the way this city is. Yet, Brazil
decided to invest in a brand new stadium in the middle of the Amazon Rainforest rather than invest
in its people. There is increasing hope that the arena will draw future investors, businesses, and
home developers/renovators to the area. However, it is unlikely that this occurs quickly if at all.
Amazonas is amongst the poorest states in Brazil, which infers that

The Role Of Law In The Common Law
Introduction
The essentials originally required to form a valid contract consist of an offer, a subsequent
acceptance and consideration. However, since the nineteenth century, another requirement
concerning the existence of an intention to create legal relations was added . It is important to note
that the common law does not include this as a requirement and therefore it has caused controversy
in the legal sphere with many inauspicious comments being raised regarding its necessity.
This essay explains intention to create legal relations as a requirement and how it is applied by
examining how it has been applied with reference to relevant case law. In this context this essay
will further present the two opposing views regarding the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Domestic and social agreements
Sometimes the nature of an agreement clearly determines that there was no intention to be legally
bound. In the case of domestic agreements, there is a general presumption that the parties do not
intend to be legally bound, though this can be rebutted.
There are two distinguishing cases under this category that show both sides of this principle.
The case of Balfour v Balfour (1919) presents a scenario in which the general presumption is
upheld. In this case a husband promised to pay his wife a monthly maintenance allowance of ВЈ30
while he was away. Later, the couple decided to separate and the husband refused to pay the
allowance. It is important here to accentuate the fact that the husband and wife were in good
relations at the time the husband made the promise. The Court of Appeal determined that there was
no intention to create legal relations and consequently there was no valid contract as Atkin LJ
stated that it was a family matter .
The case of Merritt v Merritt (1969) ensures that this presumption is not set in stone and can in
fact be rebutted. In this case a husband promised his wife that he would transfer their house to her
sole ownership after she paid the mortgage off. After the wife paid off the mortgage, the husband
refused to transfer the house to her. This case differs from the previous one as the couple in this
case was separated at the time they had made this

Contradictions Of Imperialism In George Orwell s Shooting...
Shooting an Elephant by George Orwell is a narrative essay that tells about a time that he had to
kill an elephant, but he had many challenges when deciding to do so. Orwell had situations that he
had to go through, and he also had to make very contemplating choices within himself. It s almost
as if the elephant s death determined his fate. In Shooting an ElephantOrwell states, I was young
and ill educated and I had had to think out my problems in the utter silence that is imposed on every
Englishmen in the East. (page 1) This hints that Orwell will obviously come into some
predicaments that will determine the state of his manhood. Orwell had several occasions where he
contradicted himself and his beliefs. These contradictions involved Imperialism, the Burmese
people, and killing the elephant.
In Shooting an Elephant Orwell contradicts himself about Imperialism. In the essay Imperialism is
well influenced in Burma. Orwell is a British police officer sent to Burma to enforce imperialism
among the Burmese people. At the time Orwell is very young and has no experience in his
position as a police officer. Soon after he got to Burma he begins to despise his job. Almost
everyday he had to witness prisoners in filthy cages and men tortured. He felt that he was doing
the dirty work of the government. Orwell emotions went into an uproar and he begins to feel a
sense of hatred for Imperialism. Orwell says Imperialism is an evil thing but he still works to
enforce its mission. This can be very confusing because he hates the job that he has to do, how he
is treated because of his job, and what people think of him because of what he is working for.
Orwell futhers to contradict himself and the maturity of his manhood with his relationship with
the Burmese people. When he finally arrives he is hated and taunted by the Burmese people. He
would be humiliated in front of crowds at football games and young men would sneer at him
every chance they would get. Orwell also says he would feel a great joy to drive a bayonet into a
Buddhist priest s guts. This statement would make the reader believe he hates the Burmese. At this
point in the essay Orwell starts to contradict himself again by secretly expressing a

The Argument Of Women s Subjugation Within Society As A...
The topic that I am proposing is looking at how Foucaldian notions of power work with the
feminist ideology in molding the argument of women s subjugation within society as a body.
Looking at how women are subjugated allows the opportunity to discuss the process of
subjugation in the first place in the context of how this form of power is exercised; essentially
asking: what are the tools used in order to mold the body? The tool that I would like to discuss
by using Foucault s work as my primary reference is the idea of stereotyping, and how this
eminent image of a minority is forced upon the body to pre render notions of thought and
perception about not only oneself but how others perceive the stereotypical image. This false
perception is part of a larger picture that s related to the notion of the production of truth and
knowledge, since stereotypes essentially create a set of patterns so to speak, that people rely on
and use to predict circumstances and behaviors of the subjugated body. Another important reading
that is imperative to the project is Foucault s work titled The History of Sexuality: Volume One,
as his analytics are applied to the female body as the hysterical woman, an important distinction as
Foucault covers this form of body, as well as many other types of bodies, such as the masturbating
child, Malthusian couple, and perverse adult since these are regarded as prototypical unities.
Sexuality as the intersection between power and knowledge plays a key

In order for the UDF project to become a successful venture, these funds are going to have to
come from the orders for the new engine. This means that the right size aircraft will have to be
ordered and built in order to make the need for the UDF engines rise. If the UDF project
succeeds then the company will be able to experience profits in the range of $600,000 per unit
once they are able to cover the initial amount required to break even. Once they start producing
the engines at a rapid rate, then they will be able to set a specific price and start turning some
real profit. The only stipulation will that they will have to stay ahead of the market and of their
competitors in order to retain the majority of the market share. If the UDF project fails then
General Electric will be out its $50 million initial investment as well as the additional $1.2
billion to $1.5 billion that it would cost to successfully implement the UDF project. Looking
from a non monetary perspective, General Electric would gain significant market share and an
increase in profitability in the area of aircraft engine development. The success of this adventure
would also allow for a broadening of its relationships in the area of aircraft engines and those that
use, sell, and develop them. If this venture were to fail, it would lose a significant chunk of the

son of Ralph and Sylvia Madoff, grew up in a modest three bedroom home in Laurelton, a small

stayed in the same little town, I dreaded it. Dreaded the packing, the strangeness and the
weariness that came from moving. It was tough to be completely jerked free from our home
every few years, but it also came with the thrill of a new beginning. Finally, after four moves, we
felt like we found our place. It was a private cul de sac, complete with the crazy cat lady and

Whether there was more we needed to do. I ignored it, sure that it would disappear. It wasn t until

Crime Is The Violation Of Societal Rules Of Behavior Essay
According to Sigel (2012), crime is the violation of societal rules of behaviour as interpreted and
expressed by a criminal legal code, created by people who hold social and political power. Any
violation of these rules by an individual may subject themselves to sanctions by the state authority,
social stigma and the loss of status. Crimemay be broken down into three types, property crimes,
offenses against the person and statutory offenses. A status offenseis an illegal act committed by a
juvenile or juveniles, who are minors. A status offence is an act committed by a juvenile whose
actions are not in line with the law or the area in which it was committed as if an adult committed
it. There are different types of status offences, which can vary, depending on where it is committed.
The most common ones though are truancy, running away, being beyond the control of parents or
guardians, violating curfew, or possession and usage of alcohol or tobacco, Michon (2016). From
these common offenses, it is clear to see that this can be an issue in the Caribbean society. In order
to find better means by which to reduce status offenses in the Caribbean, then by studying the
relevant theories associated with them would help to explain their origins. In the Jamaican society,
more specifically, teenage high schoolstudents, easily stressed, bullied, may have suicidal
tendencies and influenced by their peers which can lead to smoking and drinking alcohol Budd

The Distribution of Wealth
Dramatic facts surround the nature of the distribution of wealth becoming more concentrated
during the period between 1983 and 2004. In good parts of the period, labor unions were defeated
and implementation of tax cuts for the rich took place. 42% of the entire financial wealth generated
by the economy of the United Statesduring the 21 year period went to the richest 1%.
The Current Statistical Trends of the Wealth Inequality in the United States Before the onset of
the 2007/2008 global financial crisis, the 10% richest Americans group owned 80% of entire
financial assets in the United States. The top 20% richest Americans possessed 85% of the
nation s wealth meaning the bottom 80% of Americans only owned 15%. At this time, the
richest 1% owned 35% of the total wealth of America. After the great financial recession that
began in the last quarter of 2007, these figures changed dramatically. The portion of American
wealth owned by the 1% richest Americans rose from 35% to 37.2% while that owned by the
20% richest Americans increased from 85% to 87.8%. The global financial crisis led to a drop
of 36% in the middle class wealth but only a decrease of 11% for the top 1% richest people in
the United States. This further widened the gap between the two groups. At the start of the current
decade, about 51% of the American population was in the middle class. This was a 10% drop in
the middle class population from that of the previous 40 years. Compared to a number of developed

Examples Of British Colonialism In Bend It Like Beckham
Bend It Like Beckham is a film that depicts British colonialist values. It shows an Indian family
struggling to keep their culture and values alive in a city where British culture is prominently
overcoming the Indian culture Jess family is trying to hold on to. In the film, Jess parents are
somewhat portrayed as the bad guys because they do not want their daughter to pursue her dream
of becoming a professional soccer player and prevent her from playing throughout most of the
movie. Her parents are portrayed as the strict, conservative Indians, while the British are portrayed
as free spirited and liberating. Instead of excluding it s immigrants, the British are in a way trying to
assimilate them and make them part of the British culture.

We shall establish a united Chinese Republic in order that all the peoples Manchus, Mongols,

Because of this, Sun stated that a modern and ideal government system must be established. Sun
had his new government system divided into two powers: the power of politics and the power
of governance. The powers of politics are the rights of the people to express their political
wishes. An example of this today is Britain s Parliament s House of Commons. Sun declares that
the people have four major rights or civil rights, which are: election, recall, initiative, and
referendum (ABC CLIO Sun Yat sen ). Election means the right to vote, recall is the right to
remove an elected official from power, initiative is the right to petition and referendum is the
right to refer measures passed by the legislative branch to the approval or rejection of the
electorate. The second power was the power of governance or the power of the officials. Sun
proposed the use of a five branch government system within the power of governance, including
the three branch system of the U.S. (Legislative, Judicial and Executive), the use of checks and
balances, as well as two other branches: Control Branch (similar to the Censorate Branch) and the
Examination Branch (similar to the branch responsible for the Civil Service Exams). The Second
Principle of the People was meant to represent a Western style of government (ABC CLIO Sun

The Importance Of The Korean War
In America we always remember the importance of the wars we fought. For some reason most
people always forget or skip the Korean War. Korea was a small colony that was taken over by
Japan in 1910. When World War II ended Japan s government was falling apart and could no
longer support Korea. This left the colony to anyone who wanted it, and Russia answered the call.
Russia successfully conquered the north when the south contacted the U.S. to stop them. War broke
out on June 25, 1950 which had sealed the fate of the Korean Peninsula. The Korean Warwas
mostly a coalition with communist values and capitalist values. The outcome of this war has

America was unprepared, the Korean Peninsula was divided, and the countries who were involved.

Theory Of Games And Economic Behavior Essay
Introduction I first was interested in game theory after having learned about the topic in
economics during my junior year. I fell in love with economics and game theory was a major
aspect of microeconomics. Furthermore, the notion that a company could decide what course of
action to take based simply off of a chart astounded me. It caused me to truly wonder how such
actions could occur and how game theorytruly worked. It simply begged the question, what was the
underlying basis of game theory and how did a company choose the most probable option that
would increase their profits.
Game theory, by definition, is the branch of mathematics concerned with the analysis of strategies
for dealing with competitive situations where the outcome of a participant s choice of action
depends critically on the actions of other participants. The theory was first presented via a proof by
John von Neumann. This was followed by the book Theory of Games and Economic Behavior, co
written with Oskar Morgenstern and published in 1944, establishing the field of game theory.
The theory holds a prominent place when having been applied in the field of economics and has
produced various methods for advancement and analysis. Most notably, to me, the theory
provides an ability to look into how businesses will act, especially those that act as that of a
duopoly. Such a market structure allows an in depth view that would allow a business to make a
decision based on analyzed data. Being that I am

The Type Of Parenting Associated With The Tiger Mother
The type of parenting associated with the tiger mother has been a subject of intense controversy
for a very long time. Even though the term itself only became part of our understanding in 2011
thanks to the very controversial book, Battle Hymn of the Tiger Mother, by Amy Chua, there were
always questions of how much discipline is healthy and necessary for a child.
In Chua s book, she contrasts the two sides of parenting styles: what she calls Chinese parenting and
Western parenting. Chinese parenting refers to the strict and intense style of upbringing in which
the parent has (or tries to exert) complete control over their child. The parent is wholeheartedly
focused on honing their child s skills in school, music, maybe a sport, or ... Show more content on

Western parents argue that children should be allowed to make mistakes and become better people
by learning from those errors. Thus, they say that the tiger mother doesn t love their child because
it s much harder to watch your child make mistakes in the hopes that they will learn from them
than it is to simply reprimand them (and correct and intervene, even before mistakes are made or it
s too late to be good at anything).
When Chua s book came out, the media received it with horror. Chua was called a horrible
monster , the worst mom in the world , and many other unflattering names.. Chua shocked much
of America with her seemingly brutal parenting: many people were flabbergasted by the idea that
a parent wouldn t let their child attend a sleepover, or make them practice 4 hours of violin a day,
or threaten to burn their dolls if they didn t listen. The tiger mother had exploded onto the scene,
and the onlookers were horrified by the carnage they saw behind her. How could a mother be so
tyrannical and abusive? Some even called for Chua s arrest for child abuse. In her book, she talks
about how a survey showed that Chinese mothers thought that academic success reflected good
parenting, whereas Western mothers thought that stressing academic success is not good for
children . This shows that what seemed ordinary for Chua and Chinese mothers were strange and
alien to Western mothers.

How Corporate Scandals Crush the Company, Investors, and...
Tracing back the history of accounting scandals, major corporate scandals not only hurt the
economy but also crush investors confidence on investing in companies. For example, the Enron

greedy corporate senior officers. One way to create a scandal is cooking the books . Cooking the

Poetic Analysis of Fern Hill Essay
Poetic Analysis Fern Hill
Dylan Thomas s poem Fern Hill represents the passage of one mans life from boyhood to
adulthood and the realization of his mortality. The speaker in this poem uses expressive language
and imagery to depict a tale of growing up. The use of colour adds life and character to people and
abstract ideas. He looks up to
Time (313) as an authority figure who has strict control of his life, and with descriptions of
biblical figures we can presume that he is a religious person who believes that God is in control of
his destiny. Each of these images contributes to a picture of one man s outlook on life and death.

impression that he was confused about growing up and maturing. Now, no longer a child, the
speaker looks back at his lamb white days (314). Used in biblical terms, the white lamb was an
animal of purity used for sacrifices to God. The speaker was merely an innocent white lamb (314)
graciously following his shepherd (God) to his own sacrifice (death).
The colour golden is spoken to in terms of time. He is comparing the value of time to the value
of gold when he says Golden...Time let me play (313), and Time...Golden in the mercy of his

hear through his words that he wishes he could have cherished time as a child as he now
cherishes and values it. He last uses the word golden in the past tense. The children are spoken of
before...golden (313). As an adult he is no linger as powerful as he was as a child. Golden (313)
time has forever taken him far away from his childless land (314).
Time is only seen as golden and valuable but is also looked upon as a concrete figure. The
speaker characterizes time as a father figure that allows (314) him to play and be young. He

Barrett Browning successfully demonstrates the difficult obstacles women had to overcome in the

is optimistic about the goals women can achieve. She wants to demonstrate to women that belief in

top most mergers in the food and beverage industry worldwide. Currently the company has its

Earlier Heinz was a leverage buyout in 2013 through 3G Capital by Berkshire Hathaway. On the

One Flew Over The Cuckoo s Nest Comparison Essay
I d Die for You
Haeun Ro
The changes people experience over time can range from minor differences to drastic alterations in
their personality. Even complete transformations can sometimes be hard to notice, as they may
happen subtly and gradually. One of the most interesting elements of novels is how a character
matures and develops over time, the way an individual would in reality. Randle McMurphy, the
hero figure of One Flew over the Cuckoo s Nest by Ken Kesey, started out as a light hearted rebel
who challenged authority for entertainment, then became a martyr, eventually dying for the patients
of the ward. This character development is integral to the plot, as it is what actually drives the story
forward into its climax and conclusion. Milos Forman, the director of the film adaptation of the
book, was unsuccessful in portraying this vital element of the novel. McMurphy acted consistently
until the ending, when he behaved abruptly and unexpectedly differently. This not only confused
the viewers of the movie, but also changed the true meaning behind his actions. Randle McMurphy
s shift in personality advanced the plot because it created the main conflict of the novel. The
downtrodden patients of the hospital ward were too afraid to rise against the oppressive and power
hungry Nurse Ratched, but from the very beginning ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

will permit the adult learners to express what they already know about the skill. Paper planes have
been around for centuries and most adult learners conducting the skill may have prior knowledge
on what a paper plane is, nevertheless they may have never folded one or know how to. The

Multiple sense learning engages the learners through demonstration of the skill with visual aid such

their friends list and ask if they have actually met the person, see if the photos on their profile are
photoshopped a lot or not. If these things have been completed without anything wrong, it should
be safe. On online dating so many inappropriate pictures are shared. Don t let anyone pressure
you to send these kind of pictures. Inappropriate pictures can cause so much trouble, so don t send
or let anyone send these pictures. Another thing that occurs on online dating rarely but very
dangerous is kindapping. Never meet someone if you re uncomfortable. Make sure someone else

has become more and more popular among researched in recent years. Interactive segmentation, as
opposed to fully automatic one, supplies the user with means to incorporate his knowledge into the
segmentation process. However, in most of the existing techniques, the suggested user interaction is
not good enough since the user cannot intuitively force his knowledge into the tool or edit results
easily. Therefore, in ambiguous situation, the user has to revert to tedious manual drawing.
Presented method to develop as a combined segmentation and editing tool. It incorporates a simple
user interface and a fast and reliable segmentation based on 1D segment matching. The user is
required to click just a few control points on the desired object border, and let the algorithm
complete the rest. The user can then edit the result by adding, removing and moving control points,
where each interaction is follows by an automatic, real time segmentation by the algorithm.

The Basis Of The Big Bang Theory
There has always been a stigma relating to The Big Bang Theory for me personally. I previously
before this class thought that believing in the Big Bang Theory meant I was against my religious
beliefs. But throughout this class, I gained the knowledge necessary to believe in both lines of
creation. The Big Bangtheory now helps me belief stronger in my religious beliefs. As we learned
about the theory and dug deep into the roots of the universeI found myself learning to observe
science with a religious outlook and how to apply the science to my faith. The Big Bang theory
was introduced by Georges LemaГ®tre a Belgian Catholic Priest in 1927. LemaГ®tre expanded
upon previous universe knowledge by concluding The Big Bang from research in the Hubble Law.
The basis of the Big Bang is deriving from the redshifting of distant stars and galaxies. Redshifting
is the change of light which shows the chemical makeup, movement, and distance the particular star
or galaxyis from us. Using this knowledge LemaГ®tre was able to conclude that the universe is
expanding and other galaxies are shifting away from each other. All the way up until the 18th
century it was debated if the universe was infinite or finite. This was put to rest when Hubble was
able to view the universe more precisely than others of his time. Within the theory of the Big Bang,
it can easily be simplified. The theory suggests that 13.8 billion years ago at a destination in the
Universe in a state of extreme density the

Diabete-Personal Narrative
This is it. Today will be the day to end the mystery of all the fainting I have been doing lately. I

The doctor finally comes in after an agonizing fifteen minutes. I become more anxious now,
because the awnser is just seconds away, literally. It s being kept up in this human only a few feet

The Importance Of Education For Public Schools
In Diane Ravitch Article she claims that the essentials of a good education is for public schools to
keep away from the standard testing because if takes time away from students furthering their
knowledge into learning, that not involves math or learning. Ravitch then continues into pointing
that the public system doesn t have the best educational learning system, which especially
involves minorities like black and Latino students. Ravitch proceeds into say that those types of
minorities haven t had any progress, because of the low income neighborhoods they live in.
While she argues that low income communities don t have the same resources as private schools.
Ravitch is refuting privatized schools as the answer to bridging the gap between the educational
scores of middle class whites and low income minorities. Ravitch tells readers, We know what
works. What works are the very opportunities that advantaged families provide for their children. In
homes with adequate resources, children get advantages that enable them to arrive in school
healthy and ready to learn . In contrast, children who are from disadvantaged homes are more likely
to experience stress and disruptions to their lives; be homeless; live in dangerous neighborhoods
with inadequate housing; have asthma; be exposed to lead; have untreated vision, hearing and
dental issues; and have an incarcerated or uneducated parent. They are dragged down by the
circumstances into which they were born, through no fault of

Intelligence By Robert Sternbergs Triarchic Theory Of...
This essay is going to be focused on intelligence. A persons intelligence is described as a person s
ability to learn and remember information, to recognise concepts and their relations, and to apply
the information to their own behaviour in an adaptive way (Neisser et al., 1996). There are a huge
amount of different theories in relation to intelligencebut this essay will pay particular focus to
Robert Sternbergs Triarchic Theory of intelligence. He defines intelligence as
1) the ability to achieve one s goals in life, given one s sociocultural context; 2) by capitalizing on
strengths and correcting or compensating for weaknesses; 3) in order to adapt to, shape, and select
environments; and, 4) through a combination of analytical, creative, and practical abilities
(Sternberg, 2005, p.189).

The first form is analytic intelligence. This is whereby people are able to think and evaluate
information. (Jacobson, Mulick, Rojahn, 2007). It involves familiar circumstances where abstract
thinking is applied. (Sternberg, 2005).The second is creative intelligence. This is demonstrated by
how people deal with unfamiliar situations and experiences. Practical intelligence is the way in
which people adapt to their surroundings in a positive way. (Jacobson, Mulick, Rojahn, 2007).
Sterbergs theory implies that intelligence is demonstrated by a person s ability to deal with normal
tasks and everyday situations. (Jacobson et al., 2007). Sternberg believed that tests and exams often
ignored the creative and practical intelligence. For the theory as a

Lockout And Tagout Procedures
Lockout/Tagout is a safety procedure that is used to make sure that dangerous machines are
properly shut off and not started up again until the completion of maintenance or servicing work
is finished. Lockout /tagout procedures are important to employees and employers. The purpose
of a lockout/tagout program is to prevent injuries and unnecessary expenses to a company.
Lockout/tagout procedures and work instructions are created and implemented by employees and
employers. Lockout is the isolation of energy from equipment or a machine with a physical lock.
De energization is a process that is used to cut off a source of energy or separate a system from its
source of energy, in order to stop the discharge of that energy. By de energizing the system, you are
eliminating the chance that the system could accidentally cause harm to a person through
movement, or the release of heat, light, or sound. De energizing a machine... Show more content on

Companies can be fined if they do not properly train their employee s lockout/tagout procedures.
Companies can also be fined if those procedures are not followed correctly. Over hundreds of
workers die in the U.S. from being caught in machinery. OSHA will inspect a company and if
OSHA observes a machine being serviced and it is not properly locked and tagged, OSHA may
give them a fine. OSHA penalizes companies for not complying with Lock Out; these fines
exceed millions of dollars per year. Unfortunately, many workers do not lock out properly. OSHA
reports that many tagout procedures performed improperly is the fifth most violated standard of
OSHA. When placing the tagout, make sure that everyone can see it, more than one tag maybe
necessary. In compliance with OSHA, there may not be any duplicate keys for a lockout device,
therefore preventing someone to remove the lock that is not authorized to do

Going To A Magnet School
I remember back in fifth grade when we were taught almost every day to say no to peer pressure.
The idea of saying no seemed liked the easiest thing to accomplish back then, but as I grew older,
I realized nothing is as easy as it seems. I was at that age where life changing decisions were to be
made. It was that time of the year when students in 8th grade pondered upon themselves deciding
on different high schools to spend four years in.
I d like to describe myself as a very simple person. So going to a normal high school, that s close to
my house with almost half of the people from middle school sounded like the best decision ever. It
was however, deemed as a bogus decision to everyone around me. That s when this horrific peer
pressure incident happened. When I told my friends and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

going to that crappy school. It would then continue on with them listing the advantages of a

Our dinner conversations consisted mostly of my parents and brother trying to convince me to
go to a magnet school out of fear that I might fall victim to drugs and violence at a normal high
school. When it came to peer pressure, all I had to say was no and leave, right? Let me just say
that it is by far the hardest thing to say especially when you have a pack of desperate people
trying to play tug of war with you. After a while, I gave in to their ridiculous reasoning s not

This type of computerized technology can help streamline the process of creating these watches and
will eliminate most of the errors that are created by humans with precision that is unprecedented.
. The tradeoffs would be that this technology is not inexpensive. It is in fact very expensive and
will cost this company a large amount of money. The other side of this trade off is that the
company will need not worry about defective products as this automated assembly has excellent
precision and will be assembled with little to no defects. The other trade off will be the fact that
employees will lose their jobs at the hands of this new technology as their jobs will become
obsolete because of this new robotic technology.
Greenwise currently is dealing with a large amount of damaged products that are being returned to
them by vendors and consumers because of transportation issues. By adding more employees to
the field to examine our products as they arrive at the vendors will help us determine the
appropriate packing requirements for the solar powered watch Our company can eliminate this by
adding inspection specialists in the field that will allow for inspection of the products when they
arrive to the vendor to ensure that quality is still intact when they arrive. These specialists will also
help determine the appropriate casing and packing for our shipments to ensure the utmost

Analysis Of Stereotypes In The Sound Of Music
The sound of stereotypes An Analysis of Gender and Religious Stereotypes The Sound of Music
is set in Austria based in a time of the Nazi s rise to power and the simultaneous fall of the place
of the woman in society. This film tells the story of not just any woman, but a nun, a double threat
in the eyes of American cinema. Maria leaves the nunnery to become a nanny for the wealthy Von
Trapp family of 7, however her religious ideals and attempt at caring for the children is barricaded
by both the dominant Mr. Von Trapp and the heightening political pressure surrounding Mr. Von
Trapp as an officer in the army. This filmpresents Maria as a stereotypical desirable woman who
innocently and unknowingly causes Mr. Von Trapp to fall in love with her. The various love
triangles throughout the movie reveal the flaws in the portrayal of Maria and the real life
happenings of the Nazi era. Maria is used as a symbol of religious purity and various religious...

Maria s actions help break the stereotype of women in film and cultural stereotypes that create
bias among audiences. Maria is first revealed as a disheveled nun failing to fulfill her duties, she
is therefore sent to help with the Von Trapp Family. Typically nuns are viewed as celibate God
fearing women who are strict in their ways and seldom voice out opinions, but rather silently
protest and pray away problems. Maria leaves the nunnery for a different lifestyle she breaks the
stereotype and is able to stand up for her self, and forces the Captain to be warmer to his children.
Maria becomes a symbol of a strong woman who has broken the traditional reliance of a man;
instead Maria takes it upon herself to aid the family into safety from Nazi takeover. Maria s
individual transformation exemplifies changes in individual identities and moral accountability
which may change interactional expectations . (Risman,

Chicano San Diego Book Report
Chicano San Diego Cultural Space and the Struggle for Justice edited by Richard Griswold Del
Castillo
This book illuminates the challenges and obstacles Chicano residents of Southeast San Diego have
endured since the inception of their communities. Through multiple essays, it is pointed out that the
efforts to fight for equal access have an added dimension due to its close proximity to the U.S
Mexican border. This relates to my topics because the struggles of San Diego are not only local, but
national and international because the people that are negatively impacted by these issues such as
environmental are immigrants. I hope to use this book to connect the national debate on
immigration with the struggle for environmental justice because it is unfair that the people who do
the least environmental damage are the ones suffering the most.

Teamwork and collaboration with other healthcare providers is very important. To function
effectively there needs to be mutual respect, open communication, and shared decision making in
the best interest of the patient. As a member of a team it is vital to know ones own strengths and
limitations, this way patients receive the best care. Evidence based practice is when recent research
is integrated into the clinical setting for maximum delivery of health care. A lot of evidence based
practice was developed from research studies conducted by nurses such as decubitis ulcer
prevention. Knowing and demonstrating the scientific methods and processes will help to advance
nursing care by providing better interventions for patient care. Patient care plans should be
developed based on evidence (Dycus, 2009). With monitoring outcomes from evidence based
practice it can be determined if the care caused improvement in the healthcare setting. Using quality
measures such as charts and diagrams to understand performance. If care provided to a patient is
not safe, than the intervention is ineffective and therefore not helping to improve that patient s
quality of life. To help provide a safe environment, observation and communication are extremely
important. Inform the patient and family of any interventions before proceeding with them to
insure the patient

Mongols Dbq
The Mongolians in the 1200s were very barbaric. Throughout most of their endeavors have been
mostly detailed violence. If anything a better word to describe the Mongols were savages. These
ancient warriors conquered and pillaged almost everything of the known world in the 1200s. They
were violent and brutal in their journey to expand and conquer. Mongolians were extremely
violent, lead with a fierce government and a fierce leader known as Genghis Khan. Their ruthless
acts of violence and war has conquered more land than any other known commander. Genghis
Khan himself has conquered approximately 4,860,000 square miles (Document 1 Table) compared
to all the other commander totalling on average, approximately 1,659,166.7 square miles. Another
thing that makes Mongols so violent is the stories of their deeds. Document 4 tells a story about an
army of 300 mongols invaded a Persian city with 3,000 archers and laid waste to everything
including animals. In document 4 it also states the amount of people slaughter from each city based

  • 2. Iraq War Failure The invasion and the war in Iraq remains a continuous topic of divisiveness and sensitivity in today s America. One of the negative evaluation of the war is attributed to the false impression of the length of the war which lasted seven years, not six months as presumed in 2003. As the invasion initiated, the ideologies of American government then failed to perceive the large number of troops required, casualties and the financial toll in the interest of the preventive war doctrine. However, when weighing the failures of this war, there are successes brought home that relate mostly to the lessons the American military and the government learned with the use of counterinsurgency tactics after winning the hearts and minds of Iraqis (Young). Nevertheless, with evaluation through levels of analysis, the accomplished agenda of ending Saddam Hussein s regime justifies success and failure, mutually. When one thinks of Iraq war, the two key players are perceived to be George W. Bushand Saddam Hussein. As leaders of the opposing sides, they are also perceived as the decision makers. In the individual and sub group levels of analysis, toppling of the Hussein s regime in Iraq was a success. This success ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The threat of increasing terrorism after the attack of September 11, 2001 was one of the driving force of invasion of Iraq. However, in one analysis the increase of global terrorism today is told to be well contributed by the conflicts that were fueled by the western presence in Iraq and the surrounding ... • 3. The Invention Of The Braille Alphabet Most ideas take off with great aspirations, great faith and support but only result in disappointment. Then there s those few and far between ideas that leave marks in history and prove themselves successful something that will change the world. Braille is one of those rare inventions. It is a written form of language that allows the blind and visually impaired to be literate. The invention of the BrailleAlphabet had a significant impact on world by allowing the blind and visually impaired to act competitively and successfully in society, making buildings more accessible for all people, and also reducing the number of homeless. Its invention has impacted society in such way that must be noted. Louis Braille is the man who invented Braille. He was born in Coupvray, France on January 4, 1809. He was born sighted, but at the age of three he became fully blind. His blindness was the aftermath of playing with a sharp tool in his father s workshop (who had been the local harness maker), where he injured himself. Although his parents, Simon RenГ© Braille and Monique Braille, provided him with the best care available, the early 1800 s lack of medical advancement proved itself true. His injury created an infection in his one eye, and soon lead to the other, leaving him completely blind. Prior to attending a school specifically for the blind, Louis was an eager student at a public school, learning solely through listening. Later, at the age of 16, Louis attended Royal Institute for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. America Needs to Invest the Social Security Trust Fund... America Needs to Invest the Social Security Trust Fund Our nation ensures social welfare through Social Security. However, the United States cannot ensure the welfare of its own welfare system. To save Social Security, Americans in general do not favor an increase in the payroll tax, a cut in benefits or an increase in the retirement age. Furthermore, Americans are relying upon Social Security as their sole source of income at increasingly alarming rates. Social Security is intended to supplement retiree income, not account for 100% of it. Through elimination of the potential options, that leaves one necessary action: invest the Social Security trust fund in the stock market. According to the San Francisco Chronicle (Social ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Examine the absolute worst case scenario: the market crashes and the $700 billion investment is worth $0. In this event, there would still be about $2 trillion in a trust fund. Furthermore, The President proposes that beneficiaries have the so called safety net feature of a basic, monthly retirement stipend, rather than leaving future retirees entirely at the mercy of the stock market and their own investment savvy. Investing the Social Security trust fund in the stock market only allows us, as beneficiaries and future beneficiaries, the potential to receive benefits from a social welfare system that would otherwise risk extinction, commonly known as bankruptcy. Of course there is the issue of who would make the actual investments. Many people are concerned that their Social Security money will be controlled by politicians who might have their own special interests or political agendas. The President proposes that the money be invested in broad based stock indexes similar to the Standard Poor s Index under the control of a private Social Security Investment Board, as independent in theory as the Federal Reserve. Currently the Federal Reserve regulates and monitors the economy. To date, there have been no reports of conflict of interest within the Federal Reserve. Therefore, an independent management board for Social Security ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Compare And Contrast The Hegelian Analysis Of Libido Vs... The Hegelian understanding of the master slave dialectic tells us that when two beings that have not yet achieved self consciousness come in contact with one another, they engage in a conflict to try to identify self consciousness, and the only way to do that is to realize self consciousness through comparison with the other person. This conflict between two people leads to a struggle to the death where one person values life over liberty, and the other values liberty over life, and whoever values life over liberty thus concedes and is identified as the slave, making the other the master. What this paper aims to analyze is how we can use the Hegelian master slave dialecticto understand or contrast the Freudian analysis of libido versus the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... First, we can associate the master who is extensively discussed by Hegel to the superego theory discussed by Freud. By doing so, we are giving the superego part of the mind which is in other words the conscious part of the brain the role of a master. Besides, the master in Hegel s assertions is considered to have the full consciousness after defeating the other being in the struggle. Similarly, the slave will be associated to ego and Id; despite the slave playing a pivotal role in the struggle for freedom just like the ego and id struggles to have full control of the mind, he or she loses the battle to the master who in turn ends up controlling him. This is explicitly what happens to the Id and the ego; they are unable to control the mind due their unconsciousness, but the conscious part superego overrides them. Thus, the idea of the slave and the master closely intertwines to the concept of psychoanalysis as explained by Freud Sigmund. In other words, Freud seemingly confirms that those who are strong and aware of what they are doing in life, will have full control of the weak and those who cannot distinguish between what is wrong and what is right. Conclusively, this discussion has established that several theories are used to explain human existence. This is evident from the Freud interpretation about what parts of the mind dominate others ... • 6. The Effects Of Nazi Policies On European Jews Analyse the effects of Nazi policies on European Jews between 1933 1945 The Nazi Policies were deliberately directed towards European Jews between 1933 1945. They were strictly enforced to persecute Jews, limit their freedom, rights and opinions. These policies include Aryanization, The two Nuremberg Laws and The Final solution which led to serious consequences making it one of the greatest tragedies in history. The result of these policies were overt and deliberate persecution, imprisonment, torture and death of around six million Jews. On September 15th 1935, during an annual rally, Hitler released The Nuremberg Laws which consisted of two policies which were purposefully enforced to exclude Jews from German life. There were two major policies which were enforced where, The Law of the Reich Citizen and The Law for the Protection of German Blood and German Honour . Each law was designed to effect German Jews in a certain way which were all a part of the anti semitic Nazi regime s plan. The first law being The Law of the Reich Citizen was designed to deprive Jews of their German citizenship, a secondary source outlines the effects of this law, the one denied them civil rights and even German citizenships, despite the fact that many German Jews had ancestors in Germany going back centuries. The Law of the Reich Citizen was particularly designed to exclude Jews from Germans, almost as if to label them as a threat and outsiders, stripping away their value as humans. ... Once everything is verified, your assets can be divided according to your intentions. The benefit of probate is that it will clarify your will to your family, making sure there are not any misunderstanding or arguments about what you desired. Unfortunately, there are some myths about probate that you may have heard that simply are not true. Probate Will Take A Long Time To Go Through The larger an estate is, the longer the probate process will take. Court fees, attorney s fees, accounting fees, appraisal fees, and even bond fees will minimize your family s inheritance. You can limit the length of the probate process by reducing the size of your estate prior to your death. • 8. The Musical Theatre Of America Musical Theatre in America Before the 20th century, people used music and dancing to tell stories, but it had nothing to do with developing musical theater. Musical theatre is a type of play that tells a story through songs, spoken dialogue, and dancing. During the 20th century, there was a lot of change going on in Musical Theatre. Musicals are different from other types of stage works such as opera because a musical would not be a musical without the music, story line, or dancing. European operetta was becoming more popular than American Musical Theatre. The two main types of opera that were being made were called ballad operas and comic operas which had romantic plots. American composers sought to come up with something new, since Musical Theatre was not very popular with the general public. There were a lot of components that helped shape musical theatre in America , but most think that it was mainly developed because of the different tastes developing, likeable styles, spirit and energy by composers in America, it was not. Although musical theaters origins are not certain, Musical theatre gradually developed using influences of ballad opera, comic opera, operetta, vaudeville, and burlesque. Musical theatre had not been called musicals , although there were previous stage entertainments. Before the 20th century there was a reported first musical written entitled The Disappointment was a ballad opera that was taken from rehearsal because it contained ... • 9. The Impact Of Television And Its Impact On Society Throughout the years, TV has impacted us in several ways. Yet, who knows where TV will be in our years to come. As we continue to become more technologically advanced, the use of television will soon be a game changer. As we take a look back on the history of TV, we first started off the television industry with black and white pictures. Since it was an upbringing at the time, it was not as clear and the pictures would appear pixelated. Although that seemed to change as devices such as cameras and scanning systems seemed to progress over time. In 1936 John Logie Baird, an inventor of amplified mechanical televisions, had first started off with 240 lines. Now, we live in a generation where we ve tremendously evolved in regards to our high definition as 1080 is the norm. As we move on from black and white, individuals were now introduced to color television. It made TV more enjoyable and the quality continued to improve. Another advancement that developed throughout the years would be time shifting. In other words, this was known as video tape recorders. This device amazed individuals as they were able to record a show and watch it at a more suitable time. However, DVDs soon took the place of VHS recorders as it became more convenient. With all these technological improvements, the one that seemed to have a greatest impact on society would be the introduction of digital television. The picture quality was more clear and made TV worth watching. Also, people had ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In large part, this is due to capital spending on the creation and renovation of stadiums for the World Cup in 2014 and the Summer Olympics in 2016. Imagine waking up every morning and walking outside to slum like conditions. Right next to those slum like conditions are brand new athletic stadiums that will primarily used for about a month. It must be infuriating seeing public money be spent on flashy buildings, meanwhile, homes, parks, schools, and more are not given nearly enough funding that is required for complacency. Urban politics in Brazil happen to be the exact reason why housing, transportation, inner city crime, and more happen to occur in the favelas. Brazil is suffering from inconsistent political agendas which ultimately, has created collective effort by citizens to riot against uneven development. All throughout Brazil they built new state of the art stadiums, meanwhile there was a massive issue of poverty occurring. Favelas in Brazil can be found throughout the country. Most famously, Rochina, a favela in Rio De Janeiro sits massively entrenched on a hill in between a mountain range. Just below Rochina lies Rio s developed downtown area. MaracanГЈ, a local stadium in Brazil that was subject to much criticism, just miles away from Rochina was renovated heavily to be the standard for all stadiums. Accord to NPR, further outcry embellished when a brand new stadium in Manaus was built. Manaus is located in the middle of the Amazonas state (in the Amazon Rainforest) and it is only accessible by boat or plane. That is how far out of the way this city is. Yet, Brazil decided to invest in a brand new stadium in the middle of the Amazon Rainforest rather than invest in its people. • 11. The Role Of Law In The Common Law Introduction The essentials originally required to form a valid contract consist of an offer, a subsequent acceptance and consideration. However, since the nineteenth century, another requirement concerning the existence of an intention to create legal relations was added . It is important to note that the common law does not include this as a requirement and therefore it has caused controversy in the legal sphere with many inauspicious comments being raised regarding its necessity. This essay explains intention to create legal relations as a requirement and how it is applied by examining how it has been applied with reference to relevant case law. In this context this essay will further present the two opposing views regarding the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Domestic and social agreements Sometimes the nature of an agreement clearly determines that there was no intention to be legally bound. In the case of domestic agreements, there is a general presumption that the parties do not intend to be legally bound, though this can be rebutted. There are two distinguishing cases under this category that show both sides of this principle. The case of Balfour v Balfour (1919) presents a scenario in which the general presumption is upheld. In this case a husband promised to pay his wife a monthly maintenance allowance of ВЈ30 while he was away. Later, the couple decided to separate and the husband refused to pay the allowance. It is important here to accentuate the fact that the husband and wife were in good relations at the time the husband made the promise. The Court of Appeal determined that there was no intention to create legal relations and consequently there was no valid contract as Atkin LJ stated that it was a family matter . The case of Merritt v Merritt (1969) ensures that this presumption is not set in stone and can in fact be rebutted. In this case a husband promised his wife that he would transfer their house to her sole ownership after she paid the mortgage off. After the wife paid off the mortgage, the husband refused to transfer the house to her. • 12. Contradictions Of Imperialism In George Orwell s Shooting... Shooting an Elephant by George Orwell is a narrative essay that tells about a time that he had to kill an elephant, but he had many challenges when deciding to do so. Orwell had situations that he had to go through, and he also had to make very contemplating choices within himself. It s almost as if the elephant s death determined his fate. In Shooting an ElephantOrwell states, I was young and ill educated and I had had to think out my problems in the utter silence that is imposed on every Englishmen in the East. (page 1) This hints that Orwell will obviously come into some predicaments that will determine the state of his manhood. Orwell had several occasions where he contradicted himself and his beliefs. These contradictions involved Imperialism, the Burmese people, and killing the elephant. In Shooting an Elephant Orwell contradicts himself about Imperialism. In the essay Imperialism is well influenced in Burma. Orwell is a British police officer sent to Burma to enforce imperialism among the Burmese people. At the time Orwell is very young and has no experience in his position as a police officer. Soon after he got to Burma he begins to despise his job. Almost everyday he had to witness prisoners in filthy cages and men tortured. He felt that he was doing the dirty work of the government. Orwell emotions went into an uproar and he begins to feel a sense of hatred for Imperialism. Orwell says Imperialism is an evil thing but he still works to enforce its mission. This can be very confusing because he hates the job that he has to do, how he is treated because of his job, and what people think of him because of what he is working for. Orwell futhers to contradict himself and the maturity of his manhood with his relationship with the Burmese people. When he finally arrives he is hated and taunted by the Burmese people. He would be humiliated in front of crowds at football games and young men would sneer at him every chance they would get. Orwell also says he would feel a great joy to drive a bayonet into a Buddhist priest s guts. This statement would make the reader believe he hates the Burmese. • 13. The Argument Of Women s Subjugation Within Society As A... The topic that I am proposing is looking at how Foucaldian notions of power work with the feminist ideology in molding the argument of women s subjugation within society as a body. Looking at how women are subjugated allows the opportunity to discuss the process of subjugation in the first place in the context of how this form of power is exercised; essentially asking: what are the tools used in order to mold the body? The tool that I would like to discuss by using Foucault s work as my primary reference is the idea of stereotyping, and how this eminent image of a minority is forced upon the body to pre render notions of thought and perception about not only oneself but how others perceive the stereotypical image. This false perception is part of a larger picture that s related to the notion of the production of truth and knowledge, since stereotypes essentially create a set of patterns so to speak, that people rely on and use to predict circumstances and behaviors of the subjugated body. Another important reading that is imperative to the project is Foucault s work titled The History of Sexuality: Volume One, as his analytics are applied to the female body as the hysterical woman, an important distinction as Foucault covers this form of body, as well as many other types of bodies, such as the masturbating child, Malthusian couple, and perverse adult since these are regarded as prototypical unities. Sexuality as the intersection between power and knowledge plays a key ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

If the UDF project succeeds then the company will be able to experience profits in the range of $600,000 per unit once they are able to cover the initial amount required to break even. Once they start producing the engines at a rapid rate, then they will be able to set a specific price and start turning some real profit. The only stipulation will that they will have to stay ahead of the market and of their competitors in order to retain the majority of the market share. If the UDF project fails then General Electric will be out its $50 million initial investment as well as the additional $1.2 billion to $1.5 billion that it would cost to successfully implement the UDF project. Looking from a non monetary perspective, General Electric would gain significant market share and an increase in profitability in the area of aircraft engine development. I am fortunate enough to be blessed with such a family that has been able to make friends wherever we have moved. And believe me, we have done a lot of moving. Though we always stayed in the same little town, I dreaded it. Dreaded the packing, the strangeness and the weariness that came from moving. It was tough to be completely jerked free from our home every few years, but it also came with the thrill of a new beginning. Finally, after four moves, we felt like we found our place. It was a private cul de sac, complete with the crazy cat lady and millions of children. We were forever finding new things to climb, new holes to dig, and new hideouts that were lovingly dubbed Narnia . Life seemed perfect. Then slowly, thoughts crept into our heads. Thoughts that made us question whether there was somewhere else we needed to be. Whether there was more we needed to do. I ignored it, sure that it would disappear. It wasn t until our parents sat my siblings and I down, and told us the unthinkable that I realized the thoughtnever truly went away. They paused, looking at each of us individually before taking a deep breath. We re moving to Hurricane. My parents hesitated, waiting for us to catch up. • 21. Crime Is The Violation Of Societal Rules Of Behavior Essay According to Sigel (2012), crime is the violation of societal rules of behaviour as interpreted and expressed by a criminal legal code, created by people who hold social and political power. Any violation of these rules by an individual may subject themselves to sanctions by the state authority, social stigma and the loss of status. Crimemay be broken down into three types, property crimes, offenses against the person and statutory offenses. A status offenseis an illegal act committed by a juvenile or juveniles, who are minors. A status offence is an act committed by a juvenile whose actions are not in line with the law or the area in which it was committed as if an adult committed it. There are different types of status offences, which can vary, depending on where it is committed. The most common ones though are truancy, running away, being beyond the control of parents or guardians, violating curfew, or possession and usage of alcohol or tobacco, Michon (2016). From these common offenses, it is clear to see that this can be an issue in the Caribbean society. In order to find better means by which to reduce status offenses in the Caribbean, then by studying the relevant theories associated with them would help to explain their origins. • 27. Theory Of Games And Economic Behavior Essay Introduction I first was interested in game theory after having learned about the topic in economics during my junior year. I fell in love with economics and game theory was a major aspect of microeconomics. Furthermore, the notion that a company could decide what course of action to take based simply off of a chart astounded me. It caused me to truly wonder how such actions could occur and how game theorytruly worked. It simply begged the question, what was the underlying basis of game theory and how did a company choose the most probable option that would increase their profits. Game theory, by definition, is the branch of mathematics concerned with the analysis of strategies for dealing with competitive situations where the outcome of a participant s choice of action depends critically on the actions of other participants. The theory was first presented via a proof by John von Neumann. This was followed by the book Theory of Games and Economic Behavior, co written with Oskar Morgenstern and published in 1944, establishing the field of game theory. The theory holds a prominent place when having been applied in the field of economics and has produced various methods for advancement and analysis. Most notably, to me, the theory provides an ability to look into how businesses will act, especially those that act as that of a duopoly. Such a market structure allows an in depth view that would allow a business to make a decision based on analyzed data. Being that I am ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Even though the term itself only became part of our understanding in 2011 thanks to the very controversial book, Battle Hymn of the Tiger Mother, by Amy Chua, there were always questions of how much discipline is healthy and necessary for a child. In Chua s book, she contrasts the two sides of parenting styles: what she calls Chinese parenting and Western parenting. Western parents argue that children should be allowed to make mistakes and become better people by learning from those errors. Thus, they say that the tiger mother doesn t love their child because it s much harder to watch your child make mistakes in the hopes that they will learn from them than it is to simply reprimand them (and correct and intervene, even before mistakes are made or it s too late to be good at anything). When Chua s book came out, the media received it with horror. Chua was called a horrible monster , the worst mom in the world , and many other unflattering names.. Chua shocked much of America with her seemingly brutal parenting: many people were flabbergasted by the idea that a parent wouldn t let their child attend a sleepover, or make them practice 4 hours of violin a day, or threaten to burn their dolls if they didn t listen. The tiger mother had exploded onto the scene, and the onlookers were horrified by the carnage they saw behind her. How could a mother be so tyrannical and abusive? Some even called for Chua s arrest for child abuse. In her book, she talks about how a survey showed that Chinese mothers thought that academic success reflected good parenting, whereas Western mothers thought that stressing academic success is not good for children . This shows that what seemed ordinary for Chua and Chinese mothers were strange and alien to Western mothers. But does ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 38. One Flew Over The Cuckoo s Nest Comparison Essay I d Die for You Haeun Ro The changes people experience over time can range from minor differences to drastic alterations in their personality. Even complete transformations can sometimes be hard to notice, as they may happen subtly and gradually. One of the most interesting elements of novels is how a character matures and develops over time, the way an individual would in reality. Randle McMurphy, the hero figure of One Flew over the Cuckoo s Nest by Ken Kesey, started out as a light hearted rebel who challenged authority for entertainment, then became a martyr, eventually dying for the patients of the ward. This character development is integral to the plot, as it is what actually drives the story forward into its climax and conclusion. Milos Forman, the director of the film adaptation of the book, was unsuccessful in portraying this vital element of the novel. McMurphy acted consistently until the ending, when he behaved abruptly and unexpectedly differently. This not only confused the viewers of the movie, but also changed the true meaning behind his actions. Interactive segmentation, as opposed to fully automatic one, supplies the user with means to incorporate his knowledge into the segmentation process. However, in most of the existing techniques, the suggested user interaction is not good enough since the user cannot intuitively force his knowledge into the tool or edit results easily. Therefore, in ambiguous situation, the user has to revert to tedious manual drawing. Presented method to develop as a combined segmentation and editing tool. It incorporates a simple user interface and a fast and reliable segmentation based on 1D segment matching. The user is required to click just a few control points on the desired object border, and let the algorithm complete the rest. I previously before this class thought that believing in the Big Bang Theory meant I was against my religious beliefs. But throughout this class, I gained the knowledge necessary to believe in both lines of creation. The Big Bangtheory now helps me belief stronger in my religious beliefs. As we learned about the theory and dug deep into the roots of the universeI found myself learning to observe science with a religious outlook and how to apply the science to my faith. The Big Bang theory was introduced by Georges LemaГ®tre a Belgian Catholic Priest in 1927. LemaГ®tre expanded upon previous universe knowledge by concluding The Big Bang from research in the Hubble Law. The basis of the Big Bang is deriving from the redshifting of distant stars and galaxies. Redshifting is the change of light which shows the chemical makeup, movement, and distance the particular star or galaxyis from us. Using this knowledge LemaГ®tre was able to conclude that the universe is expanding and other galaxies are shifting away from each other. All the way up until the 18th century it was debated if the universe was infinite or finite. This was put to rest when Hubble was able to view the universe more precisely than others of his time. Within the theory of the Big Bang, it can easily be simplified. The theory suggests that 13.8 billion years ago at a destination in the Universe in a state of extreme density the ...
