2. The Bill Of Rights And The Constitution
Before dealing with individual amendments I would like to deal with the entire Bill of Rights
and the constitution itself. The framers of the Constitution were wary of ceding too much
power to the federal government. They rightly believed many local citizens would never make it
to the capital but would interact with local government, so the power should be kept at the most
local level possible. It was impossible to foresee in 1791 a world with video conferencing, 24 hr
news and the ability to fly around the world within 36 hours. Because of the world we live in, I
believe it is more necessary to make the Constitution and the Bill of Rights the foundational laws
of the land. In 1833, the Supreme Court ruled in Barron v. Baltimore that the Bill of rights was
written out of fear by the Antifederalist to constrain the federal government. We have given the
individual States the power to make laws that conflict and contradict with Federal law, the laws of
other states and national norms. It is these contradictions that allowed the Jim Crow laws and the
doctrine of Separate but Equal to flourish in the aftermath of the Civil War. I believe that the law
should be formulated at the highest level and filter down to the lowest. Make the Constitution and
the Bill of Rights the total law of the land and no other law in any state may contradict them to
ensure the beginnings of equality among all citizens. The First Amendment states, Congress shall
make no law respecting an

3. College Cost In College
The author talks about college cost, and the effect it has on students and on how times it takes
longer to graduate. This is an important topic because college cost has been a problem for many
individuals for decades and it still is. College cost is something that shapes people s lives and it
worries them because collegecost is what determines if they re going to continue going to college.
It s something that people should take lightly because college is pretty expensive. According to the
advocacy group complete college America, it cost 63,718 for one extra year to attend college. For
students who take longer to finish schoolbecause of certain requisites, it becomes a toll because of
the cost. According to Norton Field Guide to writing by Richard Bullock and Maureen Daly
Goggin found a report on Los Angeles bases campaigns for college opportunity, saying students
who attend school 6 years instead of 4 years will lose 110,900 dollars in their lifetime. Many
people in the work field and colleges expect students to attend school for four years. According to
the NFGW, nearly nine out of 10 freshmen think they will earn their bachelor degree within the
traditional four years. Yet In the NFGW quotes the U.S Department of Educationand they report that
about 45 percent won t have finished.
I have encountered many people who have mentioned that college is very expensive and that it has
been a big factor on whether they would continue their education. People can take a break

4. Differences And Similarities Between The Byzantine Empire...
The Mayan Empire was a Mesoamerican society that had its Classic Age from 250 900 CE. By
contrast, the Byzantine Empire was a continuation of the Roman Empire in the Eastern
Mediterranean and Anatolia, which lasted from the 400s CE to 1453 CE. Both the Maya and
Byzantine Empires used often similar but also differing methods of political control in order to
govern the large populations in their respective domains. The major similarity between the two is
the focus on religious authority in both empires. The Byzantine Empire was a theocracy with its
main religion as Orthodox Christianity, and the emperor was believed to be a representative or
messenger of Jesus Christ. With the decline of Rome to the west, the Church of Constantinople (the

The Byzantine Empire had a centralized structure, where the emperor held absolute control over
all others in an autocratic system. His power was said to have divine origins. Administrative
divisions that divided the empire into manageable chunks, called themes, only served to help in
terms of military distribution; politically, they held no power. Contrast this system to the Maya
Empire, which wasn t really an empire at all. Similar to ancient Greece, the Maya were more of
a people with a shared culture than anything, comprised of many small nation states that were
constantly at war with each other. Unlike any other empire, the Maya were never unified under
any single ruler or government. The Maya were fragmented, while the Byzantines were much
more centralized. The other major difference between the two empires is an extension of the
main difference. Due to the Byzantine Empire s relative regional dominance, foreign policy
consisted mostly of diplomacy with surrounding peoples. Much of it was focused on treaty
making and alliance building; the Byzantines took diplomacy very seriously and considered
effective diplomacy to be a way of waging war in peacetime. However, for much of their history,
they were not saddled with any sort of physical warring. The Maya, however, were consistently at
war, and the relationships between nations were a web of dominance,

5. The Value Of Children Engaging With Their Local...
The value of children engaging with their local environment and using real locations provides a
learning experience in a real, known context that engages and motivates. The project, having an
authentic audience, provides a purpose to their learning with outcomes that uses skills and
knowledge learnt in a real context. Rogers suggests that children are leading learningand having
control over it when undertaking a project such as designing a leaflet to improve a local area. He
also suggests that they develop teamwork and collaboration when making the leaflet as a group.
In any locality, there is always opportunity to identify appropriate places, spaces and people to
draw upon for primary geography and the National Curriculum suggests that primary geography
should inspire a curiosity and fascination about the world and its people...deepen understanding of
the interaction between physical and human processes, and of the formation and use of landscapes
and environments (DfE, 2013:1). Pupils should be taught locational knowledge as well as place
knowledge and this is essential in ensuring that children have a wider understanding of their local
environment and the wider world. Pupils should experience first hand observation, enabling them
to enhance their locational awareness. Improving their knowledge and expertise in order to relate
to the topic and dilemmas as well as benefits that will be apparent when completing a project using

In reading the book Social Security and the Family I learned a lot about the system that I had no
idea about before. The book was fact filled and almost fun to read the need to know information.
I gained much knowledge in the specifics of why the social security system is in need of reform,
and why it will be inadequate in the years to come. One of the reasons our social security systemisn
t working is because, Social Securitywas modeled on the single earner, marriedcouple family (1).
Times have changed dramatically since then.

discussed is efficiency, which translates into trying to achieve the greatest good for lowest cost.
One measure of efficiency is whether the effect of additional earnings on lifetime benefits of a

stems back into our class discussions in the subject of economic efficiency and how being most
efficient when the consumer (Social Security beneficiary) and the producer (Social Security

7. Carry Amelia Nation Research Paper
Carry Amelia Nation was born on November 25, 1846 in Garrard County, Kentucky. Her
parents, Mary Campbell Moore and George Moore, soon relocated their family to Cass County,
Missouri and when the Civil War broke out, moved their family to Kansas City. Carry began
helping the injured in nearby Independence, Missouri where she soon met a young Civil War
doctor by the name of Charles Gloyd. The two got married on November 21, 1867. The couple,
however, separated shortly before the birth of their daughter. The cause of their separation is what
would later on end Gloyd s life, a severe alcohol addiction. A year later in 1868 Gloyd passed away
due to liver disease caused by alcoholism.

Some would say Nation s bar smashing antics were uncalled for or could have been handled
better. Others, however, would make the argument that Nation did what she thought was best to
get her point across to others. After my research, I would agree that Nation did exactly what she
thought was best. She thought that by smashing these bars to pieces, people would take notice,
which is precisely what happened. As bystanders would see her smashing and crashing into
these bars, they would second guess their choices on going to or supporting them. Also, Nation s
powerful public speeches had tremendous effects on listeners as well. Nation risked her life and
freedom to fight for what she believed in. Even after being beaten severely and jailed multiple
times, Nation would not back down. She was the definition of persistent right up until the day
that she died. She was not afraid of conflict and was surely not afraid of fighting for what she
believed in. Overall, Carry Amelia Nation was one of America s first strong female leaders and
had an impact on many states. She is considered to be one of the nation s first strong female
advocates, and rightfully so. Carry Nation did amazing work for what she believed in and changed
the lives of many people, especially the loved ones of those dealing with alcohol

8. Wrongful Conviction Essay
Nothing is flawless, and this is especially true of governments, which are simply collections of
flawed individuals attempting to serve, or in some cases control, a larger group of flawed
individuals. Despite this, a large portion of the population accepts the government s procedures
and regulations without a second thought. Dr. Brian Farrell s lecture titled Wrongful Convictions,
an article about false confessions by Douglas Starr titled The Interview, and even the events
surrounding Prohibition are just some examples of a government that may provide order, but is
far from perfect. RULES AND PROCEDURES ARE NOT ALWAYS BENEFICIAL AND CAN
EVEN LEAD TO UNDESIRABLE CONSEQUENCES. The government of the United States in

While many supported the idea of Prohibition, it caused a great deal of consequences that can still
be seen to this day. In 1920 could anyone have believed that the Eighteenth Amendment, ostensibly
addressing the single subject of intoxicating beverages, would set off an avalanche of change in
areas as diverse as international trade, speedboat design, tourism practices, soft drink marketing, and
the English language itself? Or that it would provoke the establishment of the first nationwide
criminal syndicate, the idea of home dinner parties, the deep engagement of women in political
issues other than suffrage, and the creation of Las Vegas (Okrent 3)? While Prohibition had many
positive consequences, the negative consequences were overlooked and many suffered because of
the government s decision to restrict the consumption of alcohol. There is no doubt that
Prohibition, a product of an imperfect government, was far from perfect and led to undesired

9. Comparison Of Machiavellian Beliefs In The Prince And...
Niccolo Machiavelli, a Florence native, presented revolutionary ideas about leadership in his
famous work The Prince. This sort of how to handbook for rulers was written in a time when
power was frequently changing hands, leaving nations in constant confusion (The Prince, 443).
Machiavelli presented a way for these new leaders to maintain their power, encouraging such things
as cruelty and fear as a means of governing the common people. This new concept was drastically
opposed to the Christian ideals which had been taught for centuries. Despite its harshness,
Machiavelli s doctrine was accepted by many and has influenced some very popular men throughout
history. One such person is none other than William Shakespeare. Multiple plays written by
Shakespeare are stories of men in government who are either attempting to maintain their power or
regain it. It is no wonder, then, why Shakespeare would refer to The Princeas a resource when
writing these plays. One play in particular, King Lear, is evidence of Shakespeare s
acknowledgement of Machiavellian beliefs. Throughout this paly it may be witnessed how
Machiavelli s ideas on what a ruler should be were taken into account by the famous playwright,
leading either to his characters success or downfall. One common theme throughout both
Machiavelli s The Prince and Shakespeare s King Lear is the frangibility of love. According to
Machiavelli, ...it is much safer to be feared than loved (The Prince, 452). He goes on to justify
this statement by observing that it is far easier to turn against one that is beloved than to defy one
who is feared. Shakespeare recognized this, incorporating into King Lear the idea that love is
quickly disregarded when opportunity comes knocking. This concept may be found throughout the
entire play, but is referenced specifically towards the beginning and end. As the opening scene
begins, King Lear is commanding his daughters to proclaim their love for him in exchange for a
portion of his kingdom. Both Regan and Gonerill put on an excellent façade of admiration for
their aging father, presenting him with the exact words he desires to hear. In return, the King grants
them each a portion of land. As the

10. For Whom The Bell Tolls
The novel For Whom the Bell Tolls, written by Ernest Hemingway, is a story of passionate love
throughout the brutality of the Spanish Civil War. Hemingway uses his personal experiences to
portray the true meaning and feeling of this book. Ernest Miller Hemingway was born on July
21, 1899 in Oak Park, a suburb of Chicago, Illinois. The neighborhood he grew up in was straight
laced and rigidly Protestant. Hemingway started his literary career publishing his work in his
school magazine. Later on in life, he signed up to join the military in World War II, but was
rejected due to his defective left eye from birth. Instead, he enlisted in the Missouri National Guard
and remained on the lookout for opportunities to progress to the front.... Show more content on

Lastly, Hemingway s inner experience of love, as it is portrayed in his novels, is a sense of
basic trust and object constancy which could allow his hero to retain the feeling of intense love
even after the beloved object is lost. (#6 p.357). The love between Robert Jordan and Maria is
intense and passionate and it parallels the love that Hemingway experienced. The genius style
that Hemingway utilizes in this novel truly enhances the richness of the superb story. The
various themes in this novel really give the story its depth and meaning. The theme of chaotic
and brutal warfare is by far the leading theme, as it is in many of Hemingway s novels. This
novel s version of this theme is the Spanish Civil War. Robert Jordan s mission of this war is to
demolish a bridge, which in the long run will help the Spanish Republicans in their goal of
defeating the Fascist government. In several of Hemingway s novels, the protagonist is a
character of heroism and honor. These protagonists are tough, experienced in the hard worlds they
inhabit, and not obviously given to emotional display or sensitive thinking. Robert Jordan is this
type of protagonist and he is a humble, honorable man. There is Some notion of honor that makes
a man a man, and distinguishes him from people who merely follow their random impulses and
who are by consequence messy. (#3 p.40). An example of this in the novel is

Market research is carried out by a business before they launch a product, to find out what the
target market wants and what they could do to increase the appeal of their product. It involves
thoroughly gathering, recording and analysing data and can often take a large amount of time. A
wide variety of market research techniques are used to find out what customers want. Depending on
the product, customers are asked questions like: Where are they? Can we satisfy them? How can
we improve our product for them?

* Test marketing/product testing: This is when a product is marketed and tested by a small part of

the man in the galley; the second, a convict rose higher than the law and set foot on it. In both
cases it dishonored him, Javert (530). Javert now faces his toughest challenge yet on whether or
not to free Jean Valjean and in both cases there is negative consequence. If he does return him to
the galley man of authority would fall lower than the man in the galley and if he doesn t, the law
will be destroyed. Javert realises that either way he is damned and the fate of Jean Valjean rests
on if Javert is open minded and forgiving himself. To Javert, he will be putting a guilty innocent
man back into a situation of hell after years of persecution and spitting in his face as he returns
to the galleys. He has always believed that man can never change their ways, but after seeing
Jean Valjean save his and anothers mans life he feels something he never had before. Something
horrible was penetrating Javert s soul. Respect for a galley slave... He shuddered at it yet could
not shake it off. (531). Javert having now respect for Jean Valjean because of his gracing actions
is something that is monumental. Javert never seeing Jean Valjean much of anything now see s
him as a man who had done wrong to be deserving of being sent to the galleys by law but had

The vertical hierarchical structure and authoritarianism in bureaucratic organizations is what
distorts communication, and reduces accountability, responsiveness and commitment towards core
activities (Morris, Farrell, 2007). Instead a flatter hierarchy with decentralized management would
be more favourable. It would be cost efficient as wages would be allocated to fewer levels of
management. For example, Call centres in the US adopted flat hierarchies to achieve minimization
in costs (Bozionelos, 2008). Subordinates at lower levels of management will be expanded which
will motivate staff and provide greater opportunities and sustainability wherein management leads
and engages, but does not control and delegate (Dhillon et al. 2015). And consequently,

The theory or idea of running 26 miles come from the story of pheidippides, a greek messenger
who ran 26 miles to inform greek forces of their victory in the city of marathon. A marathon is
long distance race, which is 26.2 miles long. Many people think that 26 miles is impossible to run,
but with the right training and eating habits its possible. One thing people should always keep in
mind is that mental preparation plays a big role in a successful marathon. Running marathons have
great advantages, it s good for weight loss, healthy, and fun to participate in. A person might want
to run a marathon to test their limits or just prove they can go the distance. perhaps a friend has
talked them into it or just simply want to lose weight. Whatever the reason might be it would
require a lot of training. Training is defined as making or becoming prepared for a test or skill. By
following a marathon training schedule, you will develop gradually through four training phases:
endurance, strength, speed, and tapering. Many marathon professionals suggest that people training
for a marathon should train for at least five months. Most marathon plans account for at least one
cross training workout each week during your five months of your training. Cross training may
consist of strength training, cycling, swimming or another form of exercise that targets your
muscles in a way different from running. Cross training helps you keep your training interesting

True Grit
Title
I believe that True Grit properly titles this book. Throughout the story almost all of the characters
displayed some of kind of bravery or courage, a.k.a grit(courage and resolve; strength of character).
Mattie Ross especially had grit. She was only fourteen when she took on a daring task most people
wouldn t, to find fugitives in the Choctaw Territory and avenge her father s death. Mattie was the
biggest example of True Grit , in my opinion. Another was Rooster Cogburn. He went rode
bravely, into a shootout, with four brutal criminals all by himself. Almost all of the characters
showed some kind of grit in their own way, but Mattie and Rooster were my favorites.
4. Theme
The themes of True Grit that stood out the most to me were friendship, vengeance, and justice.
The whole story is about Mattie going to avenge her father s death and find Tom Chaney, who
murdered her father. In the end Mattie gets takes a shot at Tom, which doesn t kill him. After she
did Mattie fell into a pit right behind her. Later on Rooster kills Tom then came into the cave and

20. The Effects Of Uv Light Protection On The Microbial...
A small amount of research has been conducted on air as a habitat compared to other environments
such as soil, water, and sediments (1). Air makes up the atmosphere and is composed of
approximately 78% nitrogen, 21% oxygen, .93 % argon, and .038% carbon dioxide (http:/
/www.space.com/17683 earth atmosphere.html). In addition, air carries dust particles, pollutants
and plant grains. Air presents a hostile environment for the sustaining of metabolically active and
reproducing microbes. The air is composed of UV radiation, which results in the development of
UV light protection in the microbial populations that reside in this environment (1). Due to the
conditions of air, microbes that inhabit air are capable of adapting to wider pH ranges. They are
also capable of living in a wide range of temperatures due to varying altitudes (1). A majority of
microbes that inhabit the air are in the Proteobacteria, Firmicutes, and Actinobacteria phylum.
These microbes include, Pseudomonas syringae, Pantoea agglomerans, Propionibacterium acnes,
Agrobacterium tumefaciens and Sphingomonas echnoides (2).
A majority of the diversity of air is misunderstood by ecologist. Yet, the limited amount of research
conducted on the diversity of the atmosphere supports that air is highly diverse. Samples taken
from the atmosphere were dominated by plant and bacteria related sequences, indicating a highly

21. Science Behind Black Holes
all of you probably know what a black hole is, its a black thing in space that is like a vacuum and
sucks up anything in its way, this is pretty much what most people think of when they think of a
black hole. but today I m going to talk about the actual science behind black holes, how are they
made, whats inside of them, and what would happen if you went inside of one?
How are black holes made?
in order to get into how black holes are mad you need to understand how stars work. stars are
massive collections of mainly hydrogen atoms, within a stars core, nuclear fusion causes hydrogen
atoms get crushed into helium atoms which releases a ton of energy, this energy comes in the form
of radiation, this radiation pushes against gravity which makes a nice balance between the two.
Balance is key
For the star to maintain this balance it must maintain fusion within the core, however with much

so once your inside what happens? there are a lot of theories to what happens,I m going to talk
about to of them, one theory is the following, black holes curve space so much that once you get
inside there is only one way to go, kind of like a very tight alleyway, as you would go down the
alley way, the mass of the black hole would get so concentrated that gravity would become
millions time stronger, ripping your cells apart until you are no more then a stream of atoms.
another theory states that when you enter the black hole you would quickly be introduced into a
massive firewall and be burned to death instantly. as far as how long you would survive either of
these options would depend on the size of the black hole. a smaller black hole would kill you
almost instantly while a massive black hole you could probably survive in for a while. how long?

could ever imagine, yet despite him being a out most perfect individual at the end of the story he

this world can assume that those who are greater always seem to have an outstanding life. As a
young boy Robinson wrote to his dear friend at the ageof six, questioning why he was born
introducing a great element to his poems because at a very young age his life was tremendously
bleak. Throughout the story the poet utilizes various methods of figurative language such as irony,
point of view, and metaphors to introduce such elements of how life can be so great but despite it
being great others can assume that you re happy but no one really knows what you re enduring. In
this paragraph the poet demonstrates the emotions that the residentsfeel when they re around the
protagonist. Robinson implies third person point of view as we thought that he was everything. To

Play is important in a child s development as it helps in the child s cognitive, emotional, physical

lives such as how their mothers pour tea into teacups for guests or older family members and copies
this action when they line their stuffed toys around them and taking on the motherly role, pouring

which might be too complicated for the child to handle all by himself. Emotionally difficult

28. The Theory Of The Human Development
Part 1: Of the four major psychological theories (ecological, behavioral, humanistic,
psychoanalytic), which one(s) is/are most closely aligned with your personal belief system? All
four major Psychological theories are very significant, but based on my reading about all of them,
I can convey that the ecological theory is the most closely aligned with my personal belief system.
Part 2:
Why?
I chose this theory because it states that a person s development is influenced by everything in the
surrounding environment, such as: family values, home, peers, school, and neighborhood, among
others biological factors that play the dynamic roles in the human development. I will try to
explain it in a more simply way....and to be honest, I don t truly like the way the books describes it.
It was formulated by the renowned psychologist Urie Bronfenbrenner. The ecological systems
theory embraces that we encounter diverse environments throughout our lifespan that may influence
our behavior in varying points. These systems consist of different aspects or levels of the
environment: the microsystem, the mesosystem, the exosystem and the macrosystem.
The microsystem s setting is the direct surroundings, we have in our lives and it is the small, close
environment a child subsists in. The ecological theory alleged that everything around a specific
student cause influence in his behavior. As a teacher, we have little or no control over all the
systems mentioned in this theory. However, we can

31. Equal Employment Opportunity And Employee Rights
Equal Employment Opportunity and Employee Rights Review Many laws have been put into
place to protect employees and employers. The Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA)
and the Equal Employment Opportunity Act of 1972 (EEOA) are two such acts. These laws
protect workers from termination for causes outlined in the acts. Drug testing has become popular
for many businesses in today s society. It upsets many employees because they think that what they
do in their own time does not affect what they do at work. Summary ADA prohibits discrimination
against those with disabilities (DeCenzo, Robbins, Verhulst, 2013). Part of their definition of
someone with a disability is one who has a physical or mental impairment that limits one or more
major life activity (DeCenzo, Robbins, Verhulst, 2013). To be protected a person with a disability
must be capable of performing the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable
accommodations (DeCenzo, Robbins, Verhulst, 2013). The qualified person must meet the
necessary requirements for the position (DeCenzo, Robbins, Verhulst, 2013). For example, an
employee for Pizza Hut must have a food handler s card. Essential job functions need to be specific
in the job descriptions (DeCenzo, Robbins, Verhulst, 2013). Reasonable accommodations include
activities or modifications to the work environment that allow the qualified person to perform the
work (DeCenzo, Robbins, Verhulst, 2013). For example, the installation of

Frame Story Author and journalist, Barbara Reynolds, in a scholarly review by Arthur Terry, stated
that the book Don Quixote, ...offers a great detail, especially the interesting introduction, the
excellent notes, and the helpful cast of characters. Students and other serious readers of the classics
will be grateful. (Terry 107) Reynolds expresses her opinion that Don Quixoteis a well written and
highly recommended novel. Within the book, there are a series of short stories, poems, and
essays. Though this is a good novel, there is some debate as to whether or not the first six
chapters of the book are an exemplary novel, yet this should not be a dispute seeing as the six
chapters contain the qualities and characteristics of an exemplary novel. An exemplary novel is a
collection of short stories originating from Spanish literature. It is used to tell a moral lesson
presented by a problem or issue that one should learn from. (NHSL 107) An exemplary novel also
contains all of the characteristics of a standard novel such as setting, character development, and
plot.
In the book, Don Quixote, the moral lesson is not to believe in fictional novels that one reads for
it will cause misfortune and suffering. The reader can gather the ideas of this lesson by looking
specifically into each one of Don Quixote s adventures for example, the scene with the young boy
and the peasant, or the scene with the merchants. When Don Quixote acting as a knight rode upon

34. Analysis Of Jean Cocteau s Version Of Beauty And The Beast
When raising children, it is necessary to understand how to navigate their questions on life in a
manner that is both appropriate for their age, yet is acceptable in their eyes in terms of an actual
answer. According to Bruno Bettelheim, fairy tales are told to children as a way to allow them to
symbolically address issues and challenges they might face. These fairy tales employ the use of
characters and plots that children can place themselves in, thus allowing them to identify with the
situation described. However, over time, some adaptions of the fairy tales differ from their subject
matter. Jean Cocteau s version of Beauty and the Beastdiffers from Walt Disney s version, as it
retains many of the theories that the Disney version omitted. Jean Cocteau s version and Disney s
versions of Beauty and the Beast differ in their message by changing aspects of the symbolism and
characters personalities. According to Bruno Bettleheim, children face many difficulties while
growing up, and need a way to understand all the complexities of life. However, they are also too
young too be told the unabridged truths that life holds. Bettleheim then concluded that fairy tales
and other stories were able to communicate these ideas to children through simplistic characters and
situations that they could understand. He theorized that by expressing these stories to children on
the conscious level, their unconsciousness would be able to process these stories, and allow them to

39. Importance Of National Self-Determination In Africa
In African contexts, an emphasis was given to the fact that national self determination meant self
determination of the people against the colonial landlords. The nation didn t oppose so much
another nation as it did the colonial autocratic ruler (xxx, xxx). But what seems more important is
the fact that when the colonial power finally realized the need to prepare their colonies for self
government, they did so within the framework established by the colonial state (xxx, xxx). The
colonial state thus became equated not only with its physical attributes (territory and population)
but also with its bureaucracy, the nervous center from which stemmed ail decisions affecting the
country (xxx, xxx). National self determination also found its ultimate expression, not in continental
Pan Africanism or broader regional units, but in the states, Africans inherited from the colonial
powers (xxx, xxx). The first indications that pan Africanism had been overruled by the nationalism
of individual states came during the first assembly of African independent states held in Accra in
1958. It was then that Kwame Nkrumah, who ironically until then had led the movement towards
Pan Africanism, expressed the need to respect the independence, the sovereignty and the territorial
integrity of the newly created states in the interests of peace (xxx, xxx). When African states finally

Now a days people read the newspaper on the internet, rather than on just reading an actual
newspaper. On November 5, 1997, Minnehaha County may add a public defender office to help
people who cannot afford a regular lawyer. (Olson 2D). That same day, the sheriff and police
departments will divide $200,000 in grands for equipment. The equipment was were going to
enhance the technology of the departments (Kibiger 2D). One of the bigger stories that day was
First Premier Bank being accused of misusing trust money to develop a business that was worth
millions (Swenson 1A). In state news, Mike Miller, of Mitchell, SD, puts Florida on the top of his

42. Bluegrass Influence On American Culture
In 1970, a New Zealand bluegrass band based out of the University of Auckland recorded a
bluegrass cover of James Taylor s Carolina in My Mind. As the unofficial state anthem of North
Carolina and more broadly associated with the American South, it is seen as one of many songs
that have established the South s sense of place. The song, which has a strong sense of geographic
place was used by the New Zealand group, the Hamilton County Bluegrass Band to connect to a
rural American bluegrass tradition by associating music with place. As consumers of American
culture, bluegrass artists in New Zealand adopted bluegrass and its associated traditions in an
attempt to match the authentic Southern ness of artists such as Bill Monroe and Flatt and Scruggs.
Arriving with the folk revival in the 1960s, bluegrass became a tool to preserve a rural past that
was being challenged by urban growth.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Despite this urban growth, the central place of the countryside in New Zealand s national identity
continued. How was bluegrass used to assert rural identity in an increasingly urban nation? Music
and entertainment based on country life were very popular in the mid twentieth century. The
Hamilton County Bluegrass Band was featured on the weekly music television show The Country
Touch, where audience members sat on hay bales on a barn set, square dancers performed and
songs were sung about the good old days. Bluegrass in New Zealand is a unique example of musical
transnationalism. Through the process of cultural consumption, bluegrass artists asserted New
Zealand s rural identity by adopting a distinctly Southern bluegrass

43. Fahrenheit 451 Critical Analysis
In school, people crave acceptance. Putting themselves at a lower expectation to meet the needs
of another. Every year, students try to pick classes that could put them in the same classes as
their friends. Last year, when signing up for classes, I was hoping to get into similar classes
with my friends. After telling them about some of the classes I was interested in, my ideas were
immediately shut down. My friends, and even my parents told me that, the ideas I interpreted as
informational, were insufficient and would get me nowhere in life. They told me I should pick
something to help advance my career in the future. If my parents told me to choose something
else, who was I to disagree? I felt like I was stuck in a box, leading to get out, but nobody was
around to hear me. So I ended up switching my classes, and moving down some levels to be with
friends. My conformity caused me to lower my own standards and lowers the expectations of those
around me. Though i faced consequences by conforming, there are several examples that examine
the same concepts of conformity at a more extreme level in Ray Bradbury s Fahrenheit 451.
Excessive censorshipfrom a higher authority most likely leads to conformity from subordinates.

The amount of money that would be put into the colleges would be detrimental to the United
States economy. Free college is a controversial subject because some people think it will help the
economy and so think it won t. Free college would be horrible to have in the United States
people would suffer a lot more, hurt economy and we don t want that. College should not be free
because taxes would be higher, students would take it for granted, and debt will increase. First

46. James Agee and Walker Evans Essay
James Agee and Walker Evans
Fortune Magazine, in July and August of 1936, sent James Agee and Walker Evans to research a
story on sharecropping. In the preface of Let Us Now Praise Famous Men, Agee describes it as a
curious piece of work. They were to produce an article on cotton tenantry in the United States, in
the form of a photographic and verbal record of the daily living and environment of an average
white family of tenant farmers, (IX). James Agee and WalkerEvans set out to write and photograph
an article for a magazine, and ended up experimenting with the form of the novel itself.
James Agee was born in 1909 in Knoxville, Tennessee, but was in the urban middle class, so he had
no experience with cotton farming. When ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Agee and Evans set out to publish an article in Fortune Magazine, but when they brought back
their work to the editors, they were rebuked. The article was over 400 pages of controversial
writing and even various book editors refused to publish it as a novel. Finally in 1941 it was
published by Mifflin in Massachusetts after the author was forced to take out a few outlawed
words in the state. They failed in their original mission to produce an article, but undoubtedly
presented a photographic and verbal record of the average white southern tenant farmer families. By
living with three different families for four weeks, Evans depicted their innermost sorrows through
his photographs, and Agee portrayed and emboldened their spirit by his written words. The novel
itself was an experiment in form, with Evans photos all placed in the front without captions, rather
than dispersed throughout the novel. Even in the text, Agee continually stops himself mid
description and enters into a stream of consciousness describing the difficulties of articulating
accurately the tenant families true expressions. For these reasons, it was considered a failure when
it was published, but also for the same reasons it was considered an amazing success twenty years
later in the 1960s.
In the Preface, Agee conveys that this is a book only by necessity. More seriously, it is an effort in
human actuality, in which the reader is no less centrally involved than the

47. The Causes Of The Indo-Pakistani War Of 1947
The Indo Pakistani war of 1947 was the very first war fought between the two counties over
Jammu and Kashmir. The war began when Pakistan sent troops from Waziristan into Kashmir in
order to obtain their land. When the king of Kashmir, Hari Singh, realized what Pakistan was
doing to Kashmir, he pleaded with India for help. Tensions exploded in October 1947 when the
Pathan Muslims of Poonch rebelled against the Hindu landowners of Kashmir. On October 22,
Pakistansent troops into the region, brutally taking Muzaffarabad and Uri, burning a swath of
destruction wherever they marched, and killing Hindu civilians, ( Indo Pakistani War, 1947 1948, ,
n.d.). Indian government made a legal document called the Instrument of Accession stating that they

General Yahya Khan, who was the president of Pakistan, refused to transition power to
democratically elected Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. These events sparked a massive surge of some 10
million refugees from East Pakistan Bangladesh into West Bengal, India, one of the most
impoverished districts of one of the world s poorest nations ( Indo Pakistani War, 1971, n.d.).
General Yahya Khan tried to suppress this uprising by systematically eliminating Bengali
civilians, religious minorities and armed personnel. The East Pakistanis fled in millions to India
to escape from these brutalities. India was thus introduced into the war. Pakistan sent airplanes
into Kashmir on December 3rd, 1971. This started a 12 day war between India and Pakistan in
which India had the upper hand. India now recognized Bangladesh as a country and at the same
time launched an air and ground assault on Dhaka. India now held control over Dhaka and had
captured 90,000 Pakistanis as prisoners of war. Pakistan was left with no choice but to declare a
ceasefire which ended the war between the two countries. Sheikh Mujib returned home to become
Bangladesh s first president. Pakistan officially recognized Bangladesh as a country in

48. Why Is The Bayeux Tapestry Reliable
Part A The Bayeux Tapestry as a historical source The Bayeux Tapestry is a primary source. The
Bayeux Tapestry is a primary source of history because it was created just after the Battle of
Hasting, which took place on the 14th of October 1066 A.D/C.E. The Bayeux Tapestry was
created in the 11th Century. The person who commissioned the Bayeux Tapestry was Bishop
Odo. Bishop Odo was the half brother of Duke William, who was the leader of the Normans. He
created the Bayeux Tapestry in honour of the victory for the Normans in the Battle of Hastings.
The perspective that is not given in the Bayeux Tapestry is the English perspective. The English
perspective is not in the Bayeux Tapestry because it wasn t the English who created the Bayeux
Tapestry and it was in the Norman perspective. The accuracy of the Bayeux Tapestry is not very
accurate because it is only one side of the story, the Norman side. One aspect of daily life in the
Bayeux Tapestry is that people had jobs and they worked for money. Another aspect of daily

Read through the article, we know that Jeremy Frazer, an associate at the investment bank called
Hudson Smith Gordon, was confronted with a challenge. He knew that investment bank is such
competitive and cruel field so that he would meet and work with people with different personalities:
aggressive, ambitious, and arrogant. He never thought that one day he have to deal with person like
Chip Mazey, the vice president of the company, who was known his poor personal skills. For
Chip Mazey s bad manners, Jeremy Frazer s excitement was diminished quickly during their first

Teamwork and communication are two of the core keys to construct an effective and harmonious
atmosphere yet Mazey s nitpicking behavior and one way communicating skill would definitely ruin
the balance.
No doubt that Mazey is an aggressive communicator who always tries to manipulate people to do
what he wants. One of the representative examples is that when Frazer first met Mazey he was
shocked by Mazey s outrageous behavior of ordering him to stand right here and pointing a spot
in front of his desk. By doing so at their first time meet, Mazey wanted to show that this is my
place and all of you should listen to me . In terms of Fenster s experience, which she was
derogated and insulted directly by Mazey for her unqualified assignment. We can assume Mazey
has his own high standard and excessively strict to his subordinates, nevertheless he was unable
to express his own opinions and attitudes to the peers may accounted for why he was so easily
irritated to some extent. What s worse, he is a changeable person that you will never know what
he will do next. He may become enraged abruptly at the meeting but apologize to you in the next
second; he may request you get back to work immediately during your vacation; he may ring you
up in the midnight when you fall asleep. He is an absolutely workaholic, but as a leader his duty is
to unite and to manage people. It seemed he was doing the opposite.
