It is recommended that all people see their family doctor routinely for check ups and screening for
chronic health problems. With so much information in the news about obesity, high blood pressure and
diabetes it can be scary for a patient to go to the doctor and potentially face hearing a diagnosis like
this. The good news is that if you start early in life and try to stick to health eating and exercise habits
you decrease your risk of being diagnosed with a chronic health condition. In addition, having the
right screening tests are also important to detecting potential problems early.
Read on to learn more about common screening tests and consider asking your doctor if you need any
of these tests done!
1. Fasting blood sugar: This test is done when you have not had anything to eat to screen for diabetes.
Your doctor is looking for a fasting level that is higher than 126 mg/dl. This value confirms diabetes.
If your results are between 100 and 125 mg/dl, it is termed

Brokers of Deceit by Rashid Khalidi
Focus on Palestinian Israeli conflicts in recent history, where Israel has won time after time and the
Palestinian people have been shattered and dispersed. (p.xiii)
3 major patterns in US policy in the middle east have emerged: 1) the US can do as it likes because the
Arab gulf states depend on the US in order to not be overthrown 2) ignoring other Arab gulf states
wishes and opinions 3) ignoring the fate of the Palestinian people.
Intent of the book is to show that USA has acted as a dishonest broker between Israel and the US, and
has instead acted as israel s lawyer (p.xxxvi)
Palestinian human rights, peace processes, and their right to self determination was not brought back
up again until George hw bush took office in the 90s.
Brokers of deceit is concise and easily accessible examination of how over more than thirty decades
the U.S. has been gaming the peace process for it s own benefit rather than to achieving a lasting and
just peace between the Israeli and Palestinian people.
Khalidi participated in peace negotiations in the 1990 s as an advisor so he cites original, unreleased
documents showing American and Israeli positions.
Khalidi says that the foundation of America s long term ongoing bias towards Israel is the Palestinians
lack of a size able domestic U.S. constituency.
Finding justice for the Palestinian refugees displaced from their homes by Israel would require that
Israel displace its own settlers that it encouraged to move

Analysis Of Tick Tock By Brian Eno
Tick Tock is an ambient piece of music that was made as a direct influence of Brian Eno s four part
ambient series of albums. 2/1 in particularly from Music for Airports is a reference for the aesthetics
of the sound design in the song which has a lot of darkened textures and is almost lullaby esque in
nature. A lot of randomness is often found within the ambient genre as a piece is meant to demonstrate
an ever evolving state. This is hard to express in a one minute piece however, so a constant tempo was
decided upon for the piece. To introduce some kind of randomness into it, the vocal part begins
playing on different beats through out the evolution of the music. Minimalist music had a massive
influence of Eno s music and I also wanted to take the aesthetics of that genre and try to apply it into
my music. As a result of this, only using the three selected sounds allowed me to avoid overcrowding
the piece which isn t meant to be imposing in nature i.e. background music.
The sound is derived from a vocal part saying tick tock and heavily laden with a clear long hall reverb
to give a huge depth to the voice. A slight delay on the voice is introduced halfway through the piece
to represent the ever evolving state in ambient music. The piano sound is a grand piano mixed with a
long hall reverb with a soft attack and medium long release to produce a dream like characteristic as
well as provide a deeper spacial texture to the soundscape. The third sound was a string sound that

Comparing Walt Whitman s Politics And The English Language
Language is all around us, it is how we communicate with one another, it brings meaning to literature,
and is cemented into our culture. Walt Whitman, a famous American novelist from the 19 century,
highlights the effects of language on the American population in his essay, Slang in America. He
focuses on positive aspect of slang, how we adapt slang into the english language, as if it is second
nature to use, giving a deeper meaning to everyday phrases and words. By contrast, Politics and the
English Language, by George Orwell, does not highlight the positive side to slang, instead looking at
how authors have started to write with no purpose, no meaning in their texts. George Orwell, in
Politics and the English Language, creates an connotation between ideas and an appeal to logos to
convince the reader that writers have started to write meaningless pieces of work and could have
potentially negative effects on the American people. Compared to Walt Whitman s use of an unifying
tone and an appeal to pathos in Slang in America, that highlights the positive effects of the English
language on the American people. Orwell creates a connotation between the negative aspects of slang
to better illustrate his perspective on slang. By concluding that pretentious diction, meaningless words,
and dying metaphors has a similar outcome in writing and made these types of slang have negative
connotations in writing. Orwell does this by looking at the state of the English Language and points

Reflection On Multicultural Counseling
Starting this course in August, I didn t realize the power that multicultural counseling had instilled in
it. The fact that its central focus is around social justice and equality is a characteristic our society
much needs today. Throughout the duration of this class, I learned about multicultural counseling as a
whole, new theories that can be applied specifically to different racial/ethnic minorities, the ACA code
of ethics, and who I want to be as a future counselor.
In the beginning of the course I had very little knowledge about the theories in multicultural
counseling. I knew that it was centrally focused around social justice and equality but I didn t know
there were theories that pertained to specific ethnic minorities. I also learned that there isn t a one size
fits all theory. What I learned was that each model needs to be unique to the client and very well
rounded; it should include a specific goal(s), describe the process, have both aspects of cognition and
emotion, and include justice and equity as well. (Jun 2010) I have learned that as a multicultural
counselor you have to be very aware and mindful of your thoughts and actions. I learned that there is a
lot that is integrated into multicultural counseling and it isn t cut and dry. There are varieties of
concepts, such as being aware of oppression, continuous self reflection, awareness of impact that a
multicultural counselor can have on an individual, etc. (Jun, 2010) I was happy to read that social

The Non Profit Program Called Teach For America
Based on my personal experience, I could not fully grasp the idea when I first hear about the non
profit program called Teach for America. I am originally from a country where one must spend four
years in institution specially designed for prospect teachers. After four year education, a person finally
qualifies to take notorious teaching certification exam. Not everyone with four year degree in teacher s
university passes the exam. And that is not the end either. After obtain a certification, trainee teacher
must serve minimum one year before really start teach. Encountering the teacher s university itself
requires a high high school GPA and College entrance exam score. Since teacher is considered as a
government worker, all the benefits comes from the government itself, therefore all tuition and even
dormitory are free. After going through all the hardship, a person becomes a teacher and he or she is
certified for rest of the life. I know specific step of each stage of becoming teacher because both of my
parents were teachers and my aunts are currently working as a teacher. With this background, I simply
cannot believe that people are only receiving a five weeks training before actually start teaching
children. I would be surprise if it is five months. However, those who accepted as a Teach for America
only receives an intensive five weeks training and that are all. It is very true that trainees are all from
prestigious schools like Harvard, Yale and many more. The

Character Analysis Of Jack And Jack In Lord Of The Flies
Jack vs Ralph Stranded. Alone. Savage. Who will step up to be the leader? A plane full of boys
stranded on an island with no grown ups, and no way off the island. At first it s a vacation, no adults
means fun and play. When they realize that their parents might not be able to save them this time, it s a
struggle for chief between Jack and Ralph. Who is going to be able to carry out this important role?
Who s going to get them home? Who s going to be able to keep them alive just while they are on the
island? Ralph is the best fit leader because he brings order and rules to the island and is doing
everything he can to get them off of the island and back home. Although Ralph is focused on getting
them rescued, while Jack is focusing on how to keep them alive while they are on the island. For
example, Jack finally killed a pig. Look we ve killed a pig we stole up on them we got in a circle
(chapter 4 page 69). Then the boys were able to feast on meat because they ve been eating fruits and
nuts for so long. In that way Jack was their provider. Although the meat will make them happy for a
little bit, eventually they will get hungry again. That s when they will realize rescue was more
important. Ralph also tends to just make orders and expect other people to carry it through. For
instance, Just giving orders that don t make sense (Chapter 5 page 91). Ralph actually was making
sense but the boys were too immature to understand what he was trying to say. This is one of the

her husband for many reasons including her ungrateful ways.
Madame Loisel s husband takes what he has with great thanks, he uses what he has and if he didn t

John Booth and Frederick Weyerhaeuser Essay
Lumber Kings of the 19th Century John R. Booth and Frederick Weyerhaeuser
John Rudolphus Booth (1827 1925) and Frederick Weyerhaeuser (1843 1914) were two well known
entrepreneurs of the North American lumber industry in the 19th century. They are very contrasting
characters that appear to have nothing in common. They are from different parts of the world; Booth is
Canadian and Weyerhaeuser is German. They did not share the same faith or educational background.
Booth was Presbyterian and went to a local county school. Weyerhaeuser was Protestant and went to a
Lutheran school till the age of fourteen. One might look at them and presume that they were different

Despite J.R. Booth s discreet personality he still received the highest regard in the society. The former
prime minister, Arthur Meighen, had said that Booth s quiet generosity, and his sincerity made him an
outstanding gentleman among his fellows .
In contrast to John R. Booth, we now look at the work and personality of Frederick Weyerhaeuser
respectively. Weyerhaeuser had been 18 when he moved to America from Germany in 1852. He
settled in Erie County, Pennsylvania after he landed in America with his mother and sister. He got his
first job at a brewery and then later at a farm. He moved to the Rocky Island where he got the job of
night fireman at a sawmill. He got his first breakthrough here when he was appointed the position of
manager when the owners opened a new lumber yard. In 1860, Weyerhaeuser formed a partnership
with his wife s brother in law, Frank C. A. Denkmann. Weyerhaeuser acquired a sawmill situated on
land along the Mississippi River. Weyerhaeuser and his partner took on sixteen other partners to form
the Mississippi River Logging Company and by 1870 he was elected president of this company.
Weyerhaeuser saw the prospect of lumber companies in the West and opened the Weyerhaeuser
Timber Company which had its headquarters in Tacoma, Washington. Weyerhaeuser had more of a
participative managerial style and his business prospered through his many partnerships with his
fellow businessmen. He was head of the

The Decline of Blockbuster Entertainment
The Decline of Blockbuster Entertainment
How could a company that was built into a multibillion dollar empire fail less than two decades later?
Blockbuster Entertainment started with one store in Dallas in 1985 and rose up to become the
dominant force in the movie rental industry. They were acquired by Viacom, at the pinnacle of their
success, for $8.4 billion in 1994 and were in bankruptcy by 2010. A series of blunders by upper
management, highlighted by a lack of strategic vision, led to Blockbuster s rapid decline and ultimate
failure.
In 2000 Blockbuster had the opportunity to purchase rival, Netflix but failed to envision Netflix s
potential. The founder of Netflix, Reed Hastings, met with then CEO of Blockbuster, John Antioco, to

In turn Blockbuster was left buried in debt, with an antiquated infrastructure and no means to improve
it.
In 2005 Blockbuster eliminated late fees due to it being their number one customer complaint. In an
ironic twist, Reed Hastings had founded Netflix after incurring a $40 late fee for returning the movie
Apollo 13 late to his local Blockbuster. Ending late fees would cost Blockbuster nearly $400 million
in yearly profits. This now placed them in a position where they no longer had the cash flow to pay
down their debt obligations, and with the reduction in profits they were also unable to reinvest in their
company. With the end to late fees customers began to keep their rentals longer. This resulted in a new
number one customer complaint of titles always being out of stock. Red Box, founded in 2003, would
be the finishing knockout punch to Blockbuster. Already reeling from customer losses to Netflix,
Blockbuster management failed, once again, to realize the potential of a new delivery system, the
kiosk. Blockbuster had investigated kiosk delivery systems even before Red Box was introduced.
They chose to instead believe that human interaction would keep their customer base intact. Red box s
initial price of $1 a day rentals was a big consumer draw in comparison to Blockbusters $5 fee.
Blockbuster tried to roll out trials of a new price

Dramaturgical Metaphor Erving Goffman
Erving Goffman s above statement, referencing actors and public image, is a clear allusion to his
dramaturgical metaphor, which is one branch of his work on symbolic interactionism. His
dramaturgical metaphor delves into the premise that we are all actors who perform to others as our
audience (Goffman, 1990). It is this metaphor which will be evaluated and analysed for its
sociological significance, as well as the practical implications of the statement above, and what it
means to be sociologically significant. Many other sociologists have also tackled the depths of
Symbolic Interactionism, or the themes explored by the dramaturgical metaphor, of the likes of, Mead
and Blumer. Their insights and contributions will be discussed concerning Goffman s statement.
However, it is Goffman s dramaturgical metaphor which will be of the most help in evaluating the
statement given and its sociological significance. Although, as relayed above, other sociologists work,
such as Meads idea of the self being split into the I and the Me, and their individual functions will be
important in helping us further evaluate the statement, and its sociological significance (Pampel,
2007). As will Blumer s three pronged approach to symbolic interactionism, allowing us to grasp a
basic understanding of the concepts and frameworks surrounding symbolic interactionism, and
enhance our knowledge of the dramaturgical metaphors place in symbolic interactionism (Carter

The USA used the Eagle as their unit, and Germany introduced the new gold mark, while Canada
adopted a dual system based on both the American Gold Eagle and the British Gold Sovereign.
Australia and New Zealand adopted the British gold standard, as did the British West Indies, while
Newfoundland was the only British Empire territory to introduce its own gold coin as a standard.
Royal Mint branches were established in Sydney, New South Wales, Melbourne, Victoria, and Perth,
Western Australia for the purposes of minting gold sovereigns from Australia s rich gold deposits. The
Gold Exchange Standard Towards the end of the 19th century some of the remaining silver standard
countries began to peg their silver coin units to the gold standards of the United Kingdom or the USA.
In 1898,British India pegged the silver rupee to the pound sterling at a fixed rate of 1s 4d, while in
1906, the Straits Settlements adopted a gold exchange standard against the pound sterling with the
silver Straits dollar being fixed at 2s 4d. Meanwhile at the turn of the century, the Philippines pegged
the silver Peso/dollar to the US dollar at 50 cents. A similar pegging at 50 cents occurred at around the
same time with the silver Peso of Mexico and the silver Yen of Japan. When Siam adopted a gold
exchange standard in 1908, this left only China and Hong Kong on the silver standard. The gold

There Is A Reason Why God Allows Evil
In John Hick s piece There is a Reason Why God Allows Evil , he explains his view on the roots of
evil. Hick brings up the problem of an all loving God that allows evil to occur in the world. The
conclusion that arises God must not be all loving then. However, Hick explains that humans free will
is the problem that leads to evil. A few strengths that Hick has in his argument is the laws of nature, he
mentions that they ...would have to be extremely flexible; sometimes gravity would operate,
sometimes not; sometimes an object would be hard and solid, sometimes soft. There could be no
sciences, for there would be no enduring world structure to investigate (129). Nothing could hurt
anyone or anything, and the world would be some perfect fairytale; ...life would become like a dream
in which, delightfully but aimlessly, we would float and drift at ease (130). Hick goes on to explain
that evil allows people to learn what is good, grace and faith. If evil doesn t exist, then how could one
tell the difference from right or wrong? There would be no moral lessons to be taught or learned from
since there is no wrong, and wrong an only be done when there is evil. Hick also mentions that
bravery, courage and strength would have no point and meaning. Everything that builds character
would not exist. The weakness in Hicks argument is that he is blaming free will for the ultimate cause
of evil. There are obviously nature disasters that could be considered evil as well. Hick believes that

Billy Pilgrim And Kurt Vonnegut s Slaughterhouse Five
9 Honors

Research Paper Draft
Billy Pilgrim is Kurt Vonnegut Kurt Vonnegut always wanted to be a write and in high school he was
the Tuesday editor of the paper. After he graduated high school, he attended Cornell University, in
New York. When it came to his family life, he was not so fortunate or lucky. His mother overdosed
and killed herself on Mother s Day, his brother in law died in an accident, and his sister died of cancer.
Vonnegut enlisted and went into the Army for World War II. Kurt and his regiment were captured by
the Germans in the Battle of the Bulge and he was taken as a prisoner of war and moved to Dresden.
His time at Dresden left him traumatized and with problems so he wrote Slaughterhouse Five to help
him recover when he returned home. (Klinkowitz ix x). Kurt Vonnegut s experiences as a prisoner of
war and his life are reflected through Billy Pilgrim in his novel Slaughterhouse Five. Billy Pilgrim is
the main character of Kurt Vonnegut s novel, Slaughterhouse Five. In the novel, Billy was bored with
life and casually just going along with everything that was going on around him. He was also careless,
weird, awkward, he never got angry, was very polite, and was unstuck in time . Billy Pilgrim did not
have the best family life just like Vonnegut. His dad threw him into the deep end of the pool trying to

Richard T. Lambert s Argumentative Analysis
Considerable debate remains around how to read Aquinas on cognition. Some scholars, most recently
Richard T. Lambert, argue that Aquinas is predominantly Aristotelian. Other scholars argue that
Aquinas is predominantly Augustinian or following broad Neoplatonic impulses. The sheer extent of
scholarly attention Aquinas has sustained over the centuries makes the material difficult to wade
through and avoiding controversial claims impossible. Therefore, the following summary is an
interpretation one possible reading which I hope you will find convincing for the sake of the
argument. This section proceeds in two parts. First, I provide a general overview of Aquinas on human

Descriptive Essay About The Waves
The waves were coming too fast and I felt like I couldn t breathe. I was stuck in the impact zone, and I
didn t know where I was. I got a mouthful of saltwater in my mouth, and I couldn t help but swallow
it. I remember going around and around in somersaults on the bottom of the ocean floor just getting
stuck over and over again in the cycle of the waves breaking one after another. I thought to myself that
this was a terrible decision. That lead me to ask myself, Why did I think I could surf? I was too young,
I wasn t strong enough, and I couldn t yell for someone to help me.
The color blue was always my favorite color. It s the color of the sky, and its the color of the vast and
stunning ocean. When I was a little girl, I always had dreams of the ocean. In those dreams, I was a
beautiful white pelican with a long orange beak. I would fly over the sparkling water for miles and
miles with my strong wings, and I would never get tired. I loved to imagine a birds eye view so I
could see everything clearly. The dolphins sprinting out of the water, the school of fish swimming
closely together, and the surfers surfing to the shore without wiping out. My mama would always tell
me that the ocean can be one of the most beautiful things in the world, but it can also be the most
dangerous... We bonded over the ocean, and we always spent a lot of time in the water; whether she

Wilfred Owen s Anthem for Doomed Youth Analysis Essay
Wilfred Owen s Anthem for a Doomed Youth is exactly that, an anthem ( a solemn song) to
commemorate the innocent youth, whose lives were taken to soon by war. By using the word anthem,
he calls to mind the glory and honor of a national anthem, however; he goes on to explain that there is
no honor or glory in death, pairing the words doomed and youth together creates so much sorrow as
well, it provides a woeful impression as it foretells of young people having no hope. Written in sonnet
form, it is an elegy for the dead. The octave deals with auditory images of war and death and the sestet
deals with more visual images. Wilfred Owen masterfully uses both imagery and figurative language
to convey his lament for these young people who died. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Owen gives the sonnet a powerful, negative connotation from the very beginning. He implies with this
phrase a dehumanization of the soldiers as well as the fact that war causes human beings to treat each
other as less than human. In line three, the reader can hear the sound imagery of the stuttering rifles
rapid rattle . The word anger in line 2 also emphasizes the destructive hatred of war. Choirs of wailing
shells is a powerful metaphor in line 7 contrasting the world of war and the world of God.
For the rest of the poem various religious images abound. For example, the word candles would call to
mind the church candles, but they also mean the candles lit in rooms where coffins lie. Holy glimmers
of goodbyes (line 9) combines religious imagery with the idea of death. In the pallor half rhyme of
line 11, these two words combine in one line to show the seriousness of the situation. Young people
are dying in war, and it is tragic. The flowers of line 11 are also a double edged sword. Flowers are
given on very happy, momentous occasions, but they are also in abundance at solemn occasions like
funerals. Furthermore, Owen compares the events of war to traditional burial rituals and describes
how those who die in war do not receive proper funerals. In the first stanza, Owen references the
monstrous anger of guns to passing bells and rifles rapid rattle to hasty orisons . Usually

actions such as racism towards those who defied the system. By focusing on the individual, Wal Mart

Surfactant Essay
Surfactants!
A surface active agent, also known as a surfactant is a substance that surrounds the inner surface of the
lung and consists of four proteins and six phospholipid fats that are manufactured inside of the lung of
the human body, however this substance can also be created artificially. The four proteins include the
hydrophilic or water attracting proteins SP A and SP D and the opposite hydrophobic or water
repelling proteins, SP B and SP C. The main purpose of a natural surfactant found in the body is to
decrease the amount of surface tension of fluid (attraction of surface particles found in a liquid) that
can be found in an organ. In the lungs for example this is achieved by securing the small air sacs
inside of the alveoli (lungs). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This substance is produced when a human digests lipids or fats. According to Sareen Gropper and Jack

chemically altering cholesterol, which is a type of fat found in a human s blood. This process takes
place in the liver and bile acids are produced. These bile acids are then conjugated or united with
taurine and glycine to produce biosurfactants known as bile salts. The existence of bile salts inside of
bile gives the substance the capacity to amalgamate lipids and fats with their aqueous (watery)
environment inside of the gallbladder. According to Sareen Gropper and Jack Smith s Advanced
Nutrition and Human Metabolism bile is released from its origin (gallbladder) into the small intestine.
Through the process of emulsification the bile substance in the small intestine disintegrates fats into
much tinier particles which can be digested and absorbed at a much more efficient and quicker rate.
This evidently shows that without bile and in turn bile salts the digestion of fats will not be

Richey (2009) came up with four theoretical perspectives which can support to build up effective

disaster recovery when compared to normal business logistics.

Addiction And The Treatment Of Addiction
What if I was to tell you that everything you know about addiction is untrue? What if I was to say that
our pre conceived views on addiction were based on ignorance. It s pretty simple really, it s about
CONNECTION NOT addiction.
Good morning Mrs. Arnold, Ms. Shields and class, today I will be talking to you about addiction and
arguing how the treatment of this disease is actually quite simple. 1) we disconnected them from their
substance abuse 2) we reconnected them with important people in their lives who they love a value,
regardless of how damaged that relationship has become 3) 100% on time and energy should be spent
on strong relationships and moving them to next stage in their lives.
Have you ever watched someone you love fall into a spiral of darkness, crowded with pain, self
anguish and pure contradiction of both love and hatred for their weakness?.
A weakness which has both defined and collapsed every relationship, every situation that they have.
Despite this fixation, this person is thoroughly aware that it is in fact an enslavement, they know the
consequences, they are acquainted with direct results. And yet they continue to endeavor with this
drug. Why?
Firstly, I would like to begin by telling you all, that everything you know or have been taught about
addiction or the treatment of addiction, is untrue. Despite being students, we seem to have these pre
conceived ideas and ignorant views as to what this disease actually is. Deny it or not, I ve heard

Regulating the Captive Hunting Industry Essay
As the scimitar horned oryx gracefully moved through the rugged landscape, nothing seemed right.
Looking around, a high fence surrounded the facility, creating an inescapable doom for the animal that
had been bred and nurtured by humans. The hunter took careful aim and fired his weapon, instantly
killing this African antelope that is prized for its curved horns. This hunter had a clear advantage over
the antelope; he didn t need to know much about his prey or his surrounding environment. This
scenario occurs in operations across North America, primarily in Texas, called captive hunting
ranches. Texas ranch operators import, breed, and allow hunting of prized and endangered animals on
their private lands for the purpose of earning ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are over a thousand captive hunting ranches located throughout North America and nearly half
of them are found within the state of Texas. Due to struggling financial straits, Texas cattle ranchers
were provided incentive to import endangered game with the passage of the End angered Species Act
(ESA) of 1973. Some of these ranches import animals on the brink of global extinction to Texas in
order to raise, care, and repopulate these species. In some cases, these animals on the verge of
extinction can be returned to their native lands. But most ranchers are not too concerned with saving
endangered species for the sake of the animals; they are interested in this business because it is very
profitable ( Can hunting Endangered Animals save the Species? ).
Proponents of these ranches, and the ranchers themselves, see there is an economic good derived from
allowing captive animal hunts. For many cultures, hunting has been an honored tradition and was a
necessary means for food and supplies. In modern times, most people no longer have to kill animals
for subsistence; instead, it is more of a recreation (Institutionalizing harm). As a means of generating
income, these private captive ranches charge a sizeable fee for the opportunity to hunt highly prized
animals. The cost of a trophy animal can range anywhere from hundreds

The Cuban Missile Crisis Of 1962
The Cuban Missile Crisis in 1962 was the closest the world came to nuclear war. The Soviet Union
shipped nuclear missile to Cuba clandestinely and were discovered by the United States. While the
confrontation did not result in open nuclear warfare between the US and USSR, the US Intelligence
Community (IC) was taken by surprise. How did the IC not notice the buildup of Soviet nuclear
weapons in Cuba? The information was there despite the best Russian denial and deception attempts.
The United States intelligence and military analysts allowed themselves to be deceived by the
Russians because they did not anticipate the Russians would station nuclear weapons outside the
Soviet Union. A closer look will show why the Russian deception worked for so long and why the US
was forced to react quickly to a crisis that could have easily spiraled into nuclear war. In October of
1962, a US U 2 reconnaissance flight over Cuba yielded photographic evidence that the Soviet Union
had installed medium and intermediate range ballistic missiles. President Kennedy over the next
thirteen days frantically tried to get the missiles removed without a war. President Kennedy went with
his Executive Committee working group and set up a naval quarantine of Cuba and gave Soviet
Premier Khrushchev a deadline for removing the missiles. After six days of diplomatic overtures and
increased military tensions, the Soviet Union withdrew the missiles. President Kennedy agreed to
respect the Castro

School Shootings Throughout the United States
Recently there have been many school shootings throughout the United States and the world. Most of
these shooting were all connected with the shooter being on anti depressant medications. In an article
called Medicated to death: by SSRI s and mass killings by Lisa Arbercheski, she writes that SSRI s are
linked to the cause of most shootings. Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors (SSRI) is one of the
most popular medications taken for depression in many countries. Some are known by their popular
names like Prozac, Zoloft, Celexa, and Paxil. These medications have many tests done and none of
them prove that they cure depression or mood swings. Could these medications be connected to some
of the most recent shootings like the one in Newton, Connecticut? The case is that these medications
are causing adolescents to go on suicidal rampage shootings and the United States is trying to play it
off like the medications have no connection. Many of these young people committing these crimes are
doing it because there is some type of rejection in their life. Doctors try to alleviate there symptoms by
giving them higher doses of medication making it worse. In the article by Arbercheski she describes a
shooting on December of 2000 when Micheal McDermott went on a shooting rampage at his
workplace. It was determined during his trial that he had increased his antidepressant medication,
Prozac, from 70 milligrams to 210 milligrams per day. There was also two other recent cases where

Theme Of The Seventh Seal
Undoubtedly, one of the greatest masterpiece ever made, The Seventh Seal, Ingmar Bergman s finest
analogy about the human condition, seems quiet timeless and deeply familiar with the world that it
takes place in. Set during the Middle Ages during the Black Death (plague) era, The Seventh Seal
begins with a narrator s voice that reads from the Book of Revelations from the bible: And when the
Lamb opened the seventh seal, there was silence in heaven about the space of half an hour. The said
silence in heaven or rather the silence of God in the world is Bergman s major theme, along with
death. This film sets a high level of ambition by using a theme that is mainly universal, which is the
quest for the meaning of life.
The movie begins as Antonius ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Additionally, the dominant element used to explore the philosophical theme can be found in the
setting of the movie. For instance, deserted villages are everywhere; and every town they run into
appears to have been destroyed by the Black Plague. No set pieces are nice or lively in a way to
suggest that the world they live in is dark and disturbing, or anything but a land for the dying. The
gloomy tone of the film is mainly emphasized by a simple use of grayscale, as it really accentuates the
setting where an almost desolate land caused by the plague. The scoring of the music is also
strengthening the gloomy tone of the film. On the whole, the film is aesthetically beautiful and
philosophically brilliant, which is still become a relevant topic even after half of the century passed.
Thanks to those elements, Ingmar Bergman was able to help clarify one of the most questionable
human thought, which is the meaning of life itself. Following Bergman s creation of Antonius Block,

Advantages And Disadvantages Of The Neolithic Revolution
1. The Neolithic revolution and the origins of agriculture caused a move from hunting/gathering to a
farming economy. Discuss the social disadvantages of this transition. In what ways did it promote
social inequality? The Neolithic revolution had a big impact on the society. However, instead of
focusing on the good, as follow are some social disadvantages of this big transition. To start with,
agriculture is considered much harder work than hunter gathering is, and individuals had to work
much longer hours farming. This reduced the land availability for living on by handing it to farmers. It
reduced space for wild animals and plants, which were used for food, meaning that, the fauna was

Skeletons of women from this era show that many women suffered worse health than men. The results
showed that women had more bone lesions than man did (Gerards). This transition also led to the
spreading of new diseases, cities were getting overpopulated and pollution was arising. War and
fighting amongst people, fighting over land ownership and people wanting to control everything,
which the making of arms and new technologies began causing more pollution. All these are social
inequality examples causing some people to get more rights and different treatments between the
ranks and social statues. The elite groups were able to form and live off the labor of others this led to
power structures and inequality. According to researcher Jan Gerards, one big example of social
inequality caused by the Neolithic revolution was skeletons of royals found in Greek Mycenaean
tombs around 1500 BC. These skeletons Showed that the royals were two or three inches taller, had
fewer cavities and fewer missing teeth than their peasant counterparts; Chilean mummies of the elite

Analysis Of Helen Keller In The Chosen By Chaim Potok
Helen Keller was deaf and blind and even mute girl when she first came into the world. Despite the
fact, that she had several disabilities, she grew as one of the most respectable author, political activist,
and lecturer in the history. She grew well mainly because of the guidance and care of Anne Sullivan
her teacher, mentor, and leader. The story of Helen Keller proves the importance of admirable leader
to people and individuals. In Chaim Potok s book The Chosen, Mr. Malter s wise advice to Danny,
Reb Saunders s strong will, and Mr. Galanter s heart for Reuven prove that the three characters are
excellent leaders. The characteristics that three men revealed in the story helped those who were under
their guidance.
First, Mr. Malter s wisdom to give appropriate advice in right circumstances demonstrates his
wonderful guidance. When Mr. Malter realized that Danny, the son of Reb Saunders, came to library
to read secular books, he guided him in wisdom. Danny s father Reb Saunders, a Hasidic religious
leader, forbid his son to read any other than their religious and school books. However, Danny who

It is interesting to see how both speeches have some of the same philosophies even though they were
given 84 years apart. The honorable speeches of Bunche and of Douglass give a direct proclamation to
the people of the nation. They start to proclaim that African Americans suffer afflictions because of
those violating the constitution, and that consequently affects their mental state. Due to the given
history, the afflictions mentioned happened greatly due to the wars that were going on during the time.
Both great orators also accept the fact that they lack a stable education like the white man. They do not
deny the fact that they are lower in educational terms, but they do not appear to feel inferior to the rest
of the population. Both men just agree in the lack of knowledge. Both men express the same idea of
wanting to be full Americans. Douglass does this by explaining that the African American needs
franchise, particularly the right to vote. Bunche does this by explaining through his voice the desires
of every African American to be a full citizen. Through the wanting of franchise, both speeches
display hope for humanity in our nation, even though their time periods were buried deep in burden.

Analysis Of Monody To The Victims Of Hiroshima
Successful composers manipulate the musical elements to portray military conflict and emotional
impact. A polish composer, Krzysztof Penderecki, composed an experimental piece, later titled
Threnody to the Victims of Hiroshima, in 1960. The piece was originally titled 8 37 but was changed
when he heard it being performed. Penderecki stated I was struck by the emotional change of the
work... I searched for associations and, in the end, I decided to dedicate it to the Hiroshima victims
(Jamie Leigh, 2010). Threnody to the Victims of Hiroshima is composed for 52 stringed instruments
and depicts the horror and tragedy of the bombing. The composer is successful in his ability to
manipulate the musical elements, expressive devices, pitch and timbre, to portray the military conflict
and negative emotional impact of Hiroshima.
Penderecki s purpose of evoking emotions and relating to military conflict is evident in his
manipulation of expressive devices, specifically though his use of dynamics. At 3:32, the violas begin
playing very loud at ff. After this the other instrument groups have delayed entries with loud
fortissimo dynamics. This is seen specifically at 3:32 to 3:45, when a violin and cello group begin to
play but are not joining in at the same time. These delayed entries combined create a sense of high
tension. The additional instruments playing increase texture and thus increases the volume. Due to
these loud dynamics, an image of pain and horror can be heard. The delayed

Desalination Lab Report
Aim
The aim of this experiment is to test the effect of selected variables on the osmotic pressure during
desalination. The variables being researched include: the size of the cation, different salinities and the
solubility of a number of salts normally found in seawater.
Background Information
I have for a number of years been interested in environmental issues such as water consumption and
the carbon footprint that characterizes our modern societies. In a previous experiment I created an
organic geyser, designed to use compost to provide a source of energy to heat water. In the present
experiment, I will be exploring the potential for utilizing desalination to increase the quantity of

This strength thus makes it more durable than the current polymer membranes that are in use. Its
thinness results in less resistance during the process of pushing solvent molecules across the
semipermeable membrane. Consequently, less pressure needs to be generated, cutting the energy costs

it must contain pores, created to accommodate the exact size of a solvent particle but small enough to
prevent the solute from flowing through. For desalination, the ideal size of the pores is one nanometer
. In order to create the pores of an adequate size, there are three possible methods : helium ion
bombardment, chemical etching and self assembling systems. The use of graphene for desalination is
still being developed. At present the main barrier to progress is creating graphene semipermeable

continuous efforts to become leaner and more efficient. Any type of fuel savings will have a direct
impact to the bottom line of profitability. This additional income can be better utilized towards
additional investments that will lead to sustainability and the goal of having a green supply chain.
Strict government regulations, customer requirements, pressure from environmentalists, and requests
by the general public have made being conscientious of creating an eco friendly business necessary.
Several key process improvements and equipment upgrades have been identified that will assist
Peregrine Trucking in reaching the goal of continuous improvement on fuel savings. These
investments will not only impact fuel, but other added benefits will be realized as well. The speed of
service will be improved in addition to better focus on customer service and more reliable equipment.
The following proposed ideas are strongly suggested to obtain the desired outcome of fuel savings:

The Psych Of Serial Killer
We as humans are born with the potential to create and accomplish some great and mighty things. For
example some people decide to become lawyers, doctors, teachers, and even business owners. All of
which will make them a great asset to society. On the other hand behavioral experts have noted that
there exist extremely violent people in society who don t seem to be contributing anything positive.
Such individuals seem to prey on the weak and innocent. The aim of this study is to attempt to
understand just what makes a serial killer function and act on such a high level of aggression. Several
theories will be observed and noted in an effort to properly analyze this issue of the psych of a serial
killer. Hopefully the results will add behavioral experts in formulating strategies concerning
prevention and intervention. Just what is violence? Violence is explained as hostile emotions or
feelings being acted upon. Also it means to be severe, adamant and many times hazardous by using
one s natural strength so as to create hurt or mistreatment (Webster, 2015,p.1). How many times have
we seen or heard on the news of two individuals who engaged in an argument only to have it escalate
to a full blown fist fight or end in a shooting death. My mother once told us of a story of a man named

With so much information in the news about obesity, high blood pressure and diabetes it can be scary for a patient to go to the doctor and potentially face hearing a diagnosis like this. The good news is that if you start early in life and try to stick to health eating and exercise habits you decrease your risk of being diagnosed with a chronic health condition. In addition, having the right screening tests are also important to detecting potential problems early. Read on to learn more about common screening tests and consider asking your doctor if you need any of these tests done! 1. Fasting blood sugar: This test is done when you have not had anything to eat to screen for diabetes. Your doctor is looking for a fasting level that is higher than 126 mg/dl. This value confirms diabetes. If your results are between 100 and 125 mg/dl, it is termed ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Brokers of Deceit by Rashid Khalidi Focus on Palestinian Israeli conflicts in recent history, where Israel has won time after time and the Palestinian people have been shattered and dispersed. (p.xiii) 3 major patterns in US policy in the middle east have emerged: 1) the US can do as it likes because the Arab gulf states depend on the US in order to not be overthrown 2) ignoring other Arab gulf states wishes and opinions 3) ignoring the fate of the Palestinian people. Intent of the book is to show that USA has acted as a dishonest broker between Israel and the US, and has instead acted as israel s lawyer (p.xxxvi) Palestinian human rights, peace processes, and their right to self determination was not brought back up again until George hw bush took office in the 90s. Brokers of deceit is concise and easily accessible examination of how over more than thirty decades the U.S. has been gaming the peace process for it s own benefit rather than to achieving a lasting and just peace between the Israeli and Palestinian people. Khalidi participated in peace negotiations in the 1990 s as an advisor so he cites original, unreleased documents showing American and Israeli positions. Khalidi says that the foundation of America s long term ongoing bias towards Israel is the Palestinians lack of a size able domestic U.S. constituency. Finding justice for the Palestinian refugees displaced from their homes by Israel would require that Israel displace its own settlers that it encouraged to move ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Analysis Of Tick Tock By Brian Eno Tick Tock is an ambient piece of music that was made as a direct influence of Brian Eno s four part ambient series of albums. 2/1 in particularly from Music for Airports is a reference for the aesthetics of the sound design in the song which has a lot of darkened textures and is almost lullaby esque in nature. A lot of randomness is often found within the ambient genre as a piece is meant to demonstrate an ever evolving state. This is hard to express in a one minute piece however, so a constant tempo was decided upon for the piece. To introduce some kind of randomness into it, the vocal part begins playing on different beats through out the evolution of the music. Minimalist music had a massive influence of Eno s music and I also wanted to take the aesthetics of that genre and try to apply it into my music. As a result of this, only using the three selected sounds allowed me to avoid overcrowding the piece which isn t meant to be imposing in nature i.e. background music. The sound is derived from a vocal part saying tick tock and heavily laden with a clear long hall reverb to give a huge depth to the voice. A slight delay on the voice is introduced halfway through the piece to represent the ever evolving state in ambient music. The piano sound is a grand piano mixed with a long hall reverb with a soft attack and medium long release to produce a dream like characteristic as well as provide a deeper spacial texture to the soundscape. The third sound was a string sound that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Comparing Walt Whitman s Politics And The English Language Language is all around us, it is how we communicate with one another, it brings meaning to literature, and is cemented into our culture. Walt Whitman, a famous American novelist from the 19 century, highlights the effects of language on the American population in his essay, Slang in America. He focuses on positive aspect of slang, how we adapt slang into the english language, as if it is second nature to use, giving a deeper meaning to everyday phrases and words. By contrast, Politics and the English Language, by George Orwell, does not highlight the positive side to slang, instead looking at how authors have started to write with no purpose, no meaning in their texts. George Orwell, in Politics and the English Language, creates an connotation between ideas and an appeal to logos to convince the reader that writers have started to write meaningless pieces of work and could have potentially negative effects on the American people. Compared to Walt Whitman s use of an unifying tone and an appeal to pathos in Slang in America, that highlights the positive effects of the English language on the American people. Orwell creates a connotation between the negative aspects of slang to better illustrate his perspective on slang. By concluding that pretentious diction, meaningless words, and dying metaphors has a similar outcome in writing and made these types of slang have negative connotations in writing. Orwell does this by looking at the state of the English Language and points ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Reflection On Multicultural Counseling Starting this course in August, I didn t realize the power that multicultural counseling had instilled in it. The fact that its central focus is around social justice and equality is a characteristic our society much needs today. Throughout the duration of this class, I learned about multicultural counseling as a whole, new theories that can be applied specifically to different racial/ethnic minorities, the ACA code of ethics, and who I want to be as a future counselor. In the beginning of the course I had very little knowledge about the theories in multicultural counseling. I knew that it was centrally focused around social justice and equality but I didn t know there were theories that pertained to specific ethnic minorities. I also learned that there isn t a one size fits all theory. What I learned was that each model needs to be unique to the client and very well rounded; it should include a specific goal(s), describe the process, have both aspects of cognition and emotion, and include justice and equity as well. (Jun 2010) I have learned that as a multicultural counselor you have to be very aware and mindful of your thoughts and actions. I learned that there is a lot that is integrated into multicultural counseling and it isn t cut and dry. There are varieties of concepts, such as being aware of oppression, continuous self reflection, awareness of impact that a multicultural counselor can have on an individual, etc. (Jun, 2010) I was happy to read that social ... • 7. The Non Profit Program Called Teach For America Based on my personal experience, I could not fully grasp the idea when I first hear about the non profit program called Teach for America. I am originally from a country where one must spend four years in institution specially designed for prospect teachers. After four year education, a person finally qualifies to take notorious teaching certification exam. Not everyone with four year degree in teacher s university passes the exam. And that is not the end either. After obtain a certification, trainee teacher must serve minimum one year before really start teach. Encountering the teacher s university itself requires a high high school GPA and College entrance exam score. Since teacher is considered as a government worker, all the benefits comes from the government itself, therefore all tuition and even dormitory are free. After going through all the hardship, a person becomes a teacher and he or she is certified for rest of the life. I know specific step of each stage of becoming teacher because both of my parents were teachers and my aunts are currently working as a teacher. With this background, I simply cannot believe that people are only receiving a five weeks training before actually start teaching children. I would be surprise if it is five months. However, those who accepted as a Teach for America only receives an intensive five weeks training and that are all. It is very true that trainees are all from prestigious schools like Harvard, Yale and many more. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In that way Jack was their provider. Although the meat will make them happy for a little bit, eventually they will get hungry again. That s when they will realize rescue was more important. He settled in Erie County, Pennsylvania after he landed in America with his mother and sister. He got his first job at a brewery and then later at a farm. He moved to the Rocky Island where he got the job of night fireman at a sawmill. Blockbuster Entertainment started with one store in Dallas in 1985 and rose up to become the dominant force in the movie rental industry. They were acquired by Viacom, at the pinnacle of their success, for $8.4 billion in 1994 and were in bankruptcy by 2010. A series of blunders by upper management, highlighted by a lack of strategic vision, led to Blockbuster s rapid decline and ultimate failure. In turn Blockbuster was left buried in debt, with an antiquated infrastructure and no means to improve it. In 2005 Blockbuster eliminated late fees due to it being their number one customer complaint. In an ironic twist, Reed Hastings had founded Netflix after incurring a $40 late fee for returning the movie Apollo 13 late to his local Blockbuster. Ending late fees would cost Blockbuster nearly $400 million in yearly profits. This now placed them in a position where they no longer had the cash flow to pay down their debt obligations, and with the reduction in profits they were also unable to reinvest in their company. With the end to late fees customers began to keep their rentals longer. This resulted in a new number one customer complaint of titles always being out of stock. Red Box, founded in 2003, would be the finishing knockout punch to Blockbuster. Already reeling from customer losses to Netflix, Blockbuster management failed, once again, to realize the potential of a new delivery system, the kiosk. Blockbuster had investigated kiosk delivery systems even before Red Box was introduced. They chose to instead believe that human interaction would keep their customer base intact. Dramaturgical Metaphor Erving Goffman Erving Goffman s above statement, referencing actors and public image, is a clear allusion to his dramaturgical metaphor, which is one branch of his work on symbolic interactionism. His dramaturgical metaphor delves into the premise that we are all actors who perform to others as our audience (Goffman, 1990). It is this metaphor which will be evaluated and analysed for its sociological significance, as well as the practical implications of the statement above, and what it means to be sociologically significant. Many other sociologists have also tackled the depths of Symbolic Interactionism, or the themes explored by the dramaturgical metaphor, of the likes of, Mead and Blumer. Their insights and contributions will be discussed concerning Goffman s statement. Hick brings up the problem of an all loving God that allows evil to occur in the world. The conclusion that arises God must not be all loving then. However, Hick explains that humans free will is the problem that leads to evil. A few strengths that Hick has in his argument is the laws of nature, he mentions that they ...would have to be extremely flexible; sometimes gravity would operate, sometimes not; sometimes an object would be hard and solid, sometimes soft. There could be no sciences, for there would be no enduring world structure to investigate (129). Nothing could hurt anyone or anything, and the world would be some perfect fairytale; ...life would become like a dream in which, delightfully but aimlessly, we would float and drift at ease (130). Hick goes on to explain that evil allows people to learn what is good, grace and faith. If evil doesn t exist, then how could one tell the difference from right or wrong? There would be no moral lessons to be taught or learned from since there is no wrong, and wrong an only be done when there is evil. Hick also mentions that bravery, courage and strength would have no point and meaning. Everything that builds character would not exist. The weakness in Hicks argument is that he is blaming free will for the ultimate cause of evil. There are obviously nature disasters that could be considered evil as well. Hick believes that ... Wilfred Owen s Anthem for Doomed Youth Analysis Essay Wilfred Owen s Anthem for a Doomed Youth is exactly that, an anthem ( a solemn song) to commemorate the innocent youth, whose lives were taken to soon by war. By using the word anthem, he calls to mind the glory and honor of a national anthem, however; he goes on to explain that there is no honor or glory in death, pairing the words doomed and youth together creates so much sorrow as well, it provides a woeful impression as it foretells of young people having no hope. Written in sonnet form, it is an elegy for the dead. The octave deals with auditory images of war and death and the sestet deals with more visual images. Wilfred Owen masterfully uses both imagery and figurative language to convey his lament for these young people who died. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In line three, the reader can hear the sound imagery of the stuttering rifles rapid rattle . The word anger in line 2 also emphasizes the destructive hatred of war. Choirs of wailing shells is a powerful metaphor in line 7 contrasting the world of war and the world of God. For the rest of the poem various religious images abound. For example, the word candles would call to mind the church candles, but they also mean the candles lit in rooms where coffins lie. Holy glimmers of goodbyes (line 9) combines religious imagery with the idea of death. In the pallor half rhyme of line 11, these two words combine in one line to show the seriousness of the situation. Young people are dying in war, and it is tragic. The flowers of line 11 are also a double edged sword. Flowers are given on very happy, momentous occasions, but they are also in abundance at solemn occasions like funerals. Furthermore, Owen compares the events of war to traditional burial rituals and describes how those who die in war do not receive proper funerals. Theme Of The Seventh Seal Undoubtedly, one of the greatest masterpiece ever made, The Seventh Seal, Ingmar Bergman s finest analogy about the human condition, seems quiet timeless and deeply familiar with the world that it takes place in. Set during the Middle Ages during the Black Death (plague) era, The Seventh Seal begins with a narrator s voice that reads from the Book of Revelations from the bible: And when the Lamb opened the seventh seal, there was silence in heaven about the space of half an hour. The said silence in heaven or rather the silence of God in the world is Bergman s major theme, along with death. This film sets a high level of ambition by using a theme that is mainly universal, which is the quest for the meaning of life. The movie begins as Antonius ... For instance, deserted villages are everywhere; and every town they run into appears to have been destroyed by the Black Plague. No set pieces are nice or lively in a way to suggest that the world they live in is dark and disturbing, or anything but a land for the dying. The gloomy tone of the film is mainly emphasized by a simple use of grayscale, as it really accentuates the setting where an almost desolate land caused by the plague. The scoring of the music is also strengthening the gloomy tone of the film. On the whole, the film is aesthetically beautiful and philosophically brilliant, which is still become a relevant topic even after half of the century passed. Thanks to those elements, Ingmar Bergman was able to help clarify one of the most questionable human thought, which is the meaning of life itself. Discuss the social disadvantages of this transition. In what ways did it promote social inequality? The Neolithic revolution had a big impact on the society. However, instead of focusing on the good, as follow are some social disadvantages of this big transition. To start with, agriculture is considered much harder work than hunter gathering is, and individuals had to work much longer hours farming. This reduced the land availability for living on by handing it to farmers. It reduced space for wild animals and plants, which were used for food, meaning that, the fauna was becoming less diverse and animals were becoming weaker since ... The results showed that women had more bone lesions than man did (Gerards). This transition also led to the spreading of new diseases, cities were getting overpopulated and pollution was arising. War and fighting amongst people, fighting over land ownership and people wanting to control everything, which the making of arms and new technologies began causing more pollution. All these are social inequality examples causing some people to get more rights and different treatments between the ranks and social statues. The elite groups were able to form and live off the labor of others this led to power structures and inequality. According to researcher Jan Gerards, one big example of social inequality caused by the Neolithic revolution was skeletons of royals found in Greek Mycenaean tombs around 1500 BC. These skeletons Showed that the royals were two or three inches taller, had fewer cavities and fewer missing teeth than their peasant counterparts; Chilean mummies of the elite of 1000 A.D., had a ... In Chaim Potok s book The Chosen, Mr. Malter s wise advice to Danny, Reb Saunders s strong will, and Mr. Galanter s heart for Reuven prove that the three characters are excellent leaders. The characteristics that three men revealed in the story helped those who were under their guidance. First, Mr. Malter s wisdom to give appropriate advice in right circumstances demonstrates his wonderful guidance. When Mr. Malter realized that Danny, the son of Reb Saunders, came to library to read secular books, he guided him in wisdom. Danny s father Reb Saunders, a Hasidic religious leader, forbid his son to read any other than their religious and school books. However, this is not the case for everyone when their republic is funded on principles of faith, liberty, and justice. It is not the case when an individual knows he is equally as good as his companions without the comparison of skin color. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is interesting to see how both speeches have some of the same philosophies even though they were given 84 years apart. The honorable speeches of Bunche and of Douglass give a direct proclamation to the people of the nation. They start to proclaim that African Americans suffer afflictions because of those violating the constitution, and that consequently affects their mental state. Due to the given history, the afflictions mentioned happened greatly due to the wars that were going on during the time. Both great orators also accept the fact that they lack a stable education like the white man. They do not deny the fact that they are lower in educational terms, but they do not appear to feel inferior to the rest of the population. Both men just agree in the lack of knowledge. Both men express the same idea of wanting to be full Americans. Douglass does this by explaining that the African American needs franchise, particularly the right to vote. Bunche does this by explaining through his voice the desires of every African American to be a full citizen. Through the wanting of franchise, both speeches display hope for humanity in our nation, even though their time periods were buried deep in burden. • 34. Analysis Of Monody To The Victims Of Hiroshima Successful composers manipulate the musical elements to portray military conflict and emotional impact. A polish composer, Krzysztof Penderecki, composed an experimental piece, later titled Threnody to the Victims of Hiroshima, in 1960. The piece was originally titled 8 37 but was changed when he heard it being performed. Penderecki stated I was struck by the emotional change of the work... I searched for associations and, in the end, I decided to dedicate it to the Hiroshima victims (Jamie Leigh, 2010). Threnody to the Victims of Hiroshima is composed for 52 stringed instruments and depicts the horror and tragedy of the bombing. The composer is successful in his ability to manipulate the musical elements, expressive devices, pitch and timbre, to portray the military conflict and negative emotional impact of Hiroshima. Penderecki s purpose of evoking emotions and relating to military conflict is evident in his manipulation of expressive devices, specifically though his use of dynamics. At 3:32, the violas begin playing very loud at ff. After this the other instrument groups have delayed entries with loud fortissimo dynamics. This is seen specifically at 3:32 to 3:45, when a violin and cello group begin to play but are not joining in at the same time. These delayed entries combined create a sense of high tension. The additional instruments playing increase texture and thus increases the volume. Due to these loud dynamics, an image of pain and horror can be heard. The delayed ... The web article attempts to explain why many students post embarrassing, humiliating, threatening, and hurtful content in text, blogs, photos, and videos. The fact that most users feel anonymous and secure in their home, leads to a false sense of privacy. Various adults are looking at student profiles, pictures, and videos. The variables being researched include: the size of the cation, different salinities and the solubility of a number of salts normally found in seawater. Background Information I have for a number of years been interested in environmental issues such as water consumption and the carbon footprint that characterizes our modern societies. In a previous experiment I created an organic geyser, designed to use compost to provide a source of energy to heat water. In the present experiment, I will be exploring the potential for utilizing desalination to increase the quantity of potable water for human consumption. Water is a ... In order for the graphene to work as a semipermeable membrane, it must contain pores, created to accommodate the exact size of a solvent particle but small enough to prevent the solute from flowing through. For desalination, the ideal size of the pores is one nanometer . In order to create the pores of an adequate size, there are three possible methods : helium ion bombardment, chemical etching and self assembling systems. The use of graphene for desalination is still being developed. At present the main barrier to progress is creating graphene semipermeable membranes with pores of the right size on a large enough ... For example some people decide to become lawyers, doctors, teachers, and even business owners. All of which will make them a great asset to society. On the other hand behavioral experts have noted that there exist extremely violent people in society who don t seem to be contributing anything positive. Such individuals seem to prey on the weak and innocent. The aim of this study is to attempt to understand just what makes a serial killer function and act on such a high level of aggression. Several theories will be observed and noted in an effort to properly analyze this issue of the psych of a serial killer. Hopefully the results will add behavioral experts in formulating strategies concerning prevention and intervention. Just what is violence? Violence is explained as hostile emotions or feelings being acted upon. Also it means to be severe, adamant and many times hazardous by using one s natural strength so as to create hurt or mistreatment (Webster, 2015,p.1).
