Reflection On A Separate Peace
To Be Human: A Separate Peace Reflection Compassion plays a significant role in everyone s lives: it
is what parents teach their children from a young age, it is how human kindness is forwarded, it is how
people make friends and fall in love. It is simultaneously what fuels the lives of individuals and what
shapes the lives of those around them. In times of war or united struggle, though, compassion becomes
harder to come by. John Knowles, author of the historical fiction novel A Separate Peace,
demonstrates the toll war takes on one s soul through it s main character, Gene Forrester. As World
War II continues amidst the events Gene encounters at Devon School, the reader observes Gene s
transformation into an apathetic human being through his distrusting of others, actions towards his
peer, Leper, and his response to his best friend s death. Gene s descent of character makes Knowles
personal perspective on war clear as well: it either kills you or kills your mind. Though A Separate
Peace follows Gene s life as a junior at Devon School and not as a soldier on the front line, much of
Gene and his peers average school day revolves around the war. Considering such a state of mind, of
course Gene s life parallels the life of a soldier. One of the most striking similarities between Gene s
life and a World War II soldier s is their loss of compassion amongst tragedy. Like a soldier, Gene
entered his battlefield Devon School with his emotions intact and a healthy bulk of

Rembrandt van Rijn People consider the Dutch painter and etcher, Rembrandt Harmenszoon van Rijn,
an important figure in Dutch history. He achieved success at a very early age but had personal
tragedies and financial hardships in his later years. Many are familiar with Rembrandt s reputation.
Rembrandt s works show his greatest accomplishments. Mainly his childhood and home life
influenced his works. Steadfastly, Rembrandt van Rijn, the greatest Dutch portrait painter of all time,
revealed his brilliance by creating realistic masterpieces of poor, working class subjects, and the ones
he loved and lost.

Unfortunately, Rembrandt faced financial difficulties as well that he never paid attention but would
later affect him. After Saskia gave birth to four children, only the last one, Titus, survived to grow up.
Many believe that the birth of Titus explained Saskia s fatal illness. On June 14, 1642, Saskia van
Ulenborch died when Titus was only a year old. Five days later, she was buried in the Oude Kerk. In
the 1640s, Rembrandt van Rijn hired Hendrickje Stoffels as his servant that later became his mistress
after the death of Saskia. Yet, he could not marry Hendrickje or else he would have lost the income
from Saskia s part of the estate. Hendrickje played Saskia s role in all but name (White 129).
Hendrickje and Titus became models in numerous works of Rembrandt. Rembrandt and his new
partner soon had a girl named Cornelia. In 1653, Rembrandt began to face trouble, the worst year of
the economic depression caused by the First Anglo Dutch War. The war almost led to a financial
collapse in Amsterdam. Rembrandt owed money for his house, paid no interest on the exorbitant
amount for the past five years, and had let the original owner pay the taxes on the house for the past
three years. Rembrandt van Rijn sold many of his possessions to pay off his debt. He finally left his
house and moved into a simpler one on the other side of the city, Jordaan. In July of 1663, Hendrickje
Stoffels died. Many say that the plague could have

Hello, Catalysts writers!
It s mid October and I thought I would send out an email to give you some tips and guidance while
you re working on content for 1117. My goal will be to send out a monthly email but feel free to reach

Think of your Audience
Before sitting down to write something, I always like to take a second to think about my audience.
Who will be reading my content and why will they be reading it? Keep this in mind helps me tailor
my message. For example, a landing page will have a different audience than a press release.
Also, be sure to consider the tone and feel of a piece. Blog posts should be informative but they should
also be a bit more casual and girl friendy than a landing page. Both are designed for patients to ...

Here is a list of general style tips for Catalyst pieces.
Always make sure to properly identify the content as a blog or page in the header. This information

Try to avoid using colons (:).
Only capitalize the name of a disease if it is a person s name (Example: Gaucher s disease).
Use M.D. (or the appropriate title) on the first mention of the doctor. All following mentions can say

Persian Empire Research Paper
The ancient world was a time of great civilisations and greater rulers, and today it is those of Greece
and Rome that are remembered. But they were not alone in their military conquests and vast empires;
there were many equal to, or perhaps even greater, than them, and it is important not to overlook the
achievements of these peoples who have helped to shape history. The Persian Empire is one such of
these civilisations, rising to prominence in the mid sixth century BCE and enduring for two hundred
years, a small amount of time in which it conquered an impressive amount of territory. At its height, it
controlled a huge swathe of land centred in modern day Iran, stretching as far north as the Russian
border, as far south as Egypt, and as far ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The efficiency of the Persian Empire s rule over a large area inhabited by people of various different
cultures and traditions was one of its most significant achievements. To maintain order, the empire
was split into approximately twenty areas known as satrapies, each ruled by a satrap, generally a local
of the area. This governmental system enabled large scale taxation to take place, as each satrap
collected money from his area and sent it back to the emperor, something which would have been near
impossible without these regional leaders; collection of tax provided a constant flow of money to fund
the Persian Empire and its operations. Persia also maintained cohesion in its empire through
implementation of a common language for use in all government documents, the development of
standardised weights and official coinage, and the introduction of a single set of laws to govern the
empire in its entirety. Perhaps the most notable achievement of the Persians was the Royal Road, a
highway built by Darius I that allowed prompt communication and intelligence gathering, and
stretched approximately three thousand kilometres across the Persian Empire. With fresh messengers
and horses waiting at stations along this road, a message could be delivered in seven days where it
might formerly have taken three months. The organisation of the Empire meant that it remained
unified and connected with the

The Continuous Cycle of War Ever since the days of Mesopotamia from the agricultural revolution,
war has been a constant and important part of human life. Over time though, humans have evolved
and gotten stronger and smarter which lead to more competition. War from its beginning, has
consistently stemmed from the innate sense of evolutionary survival and subsequent competition, thus
securing it s inevitable perpetuation. The only thing that every person has in common is that they want
to survive. Humans are always fighting. This shows how even though the monster had not done
anything inherently wrong, they are afraid because they just want to survive and the monster looks ...

Religions differing has caused many conflicts throughout history. The feeling of attachment to
tribalism and fake patriotism under the umbrella of religion is stronger and more apparent than respect
for human rights and pluralism (Mhamed 2). When people are tied so greatly to their religion, they
will be willing to throw away their morals and do whatever they deem is right for their beliefs, leading
to constant wars. different tribal and so called patriotic groups resort to religion to gain legacy and
popularity (Mhamad 2). Religion is even just a way to unite people to war such as saying they are
doing something in the name of their deity Both survival and competition, consequently have caused
continuous wars throughout human history. Humans are always fighting since the beginning of time.
Wherever there is an enemy, animate or inanimate, there must be a victory. You must prevail at the
front, no matter how high the cost at home (Wilson 1). There will always be war for these reasons.
Nationalism is one of the key examples coming from this quote and it is said for a very good reason.
group versus group competition was a principal driving force that made us what we are. In prehistory,
group selection lifted the hominids that became territorial carnivores to heights of solidarity, to genius,
to enterprise and to fear (Wilson 1). Competition was necessary and it will until the end of humans. It
has caused war but it

The Constitution And The Articles Of Confederation
Rules would be the new topic of discussion at the end of the American Revolution amongst the newly
formed Free states that won their independence from Britain. One huge question loomed over the Free
states, how could they conduct a civilized way of living without another ruler such as the king of
Britain here in America? There needed to be some sort of system that would generate a control to
create a unified country. States were acting and conducting business as if each state was its own
country and this left the America vulnerable on many fronts. Some of the main issues that surfaced
were; How to divide powers between local and national governments? Which laws should be made,
and by whom and who would enforce them? I will address some of the differences between the
Constitution and The Articles of Confederation.
The Articles of Confederation were designed and formed from the thirteen states that created a
Confederation known as the league of friendship ; their goal was to find solutions for problems; and
one of the first attempts to create a system. The Articles of Confederation was our nation s first
constitution; during the last years of the Revolutionary war, the government had been conducting our
country s affairs helping to negotiate the Treaty of Paris in 1783.
The Articles of Confederation were a set of principles set forth that got our nation through the
Revolutionary war. When the articles fell short at working effectively the state delegates attempted to

Transition Mechanism Of The Internet Protocol Essay
Transition mechanism is a technology that facilitates the transitioning of the Internet from the Internet
Protocol version 4 (IPv4) infrastructure
Mechanism to allow a smooth transition to the new version of the IP protocol, without the need for an
abrupt change. With this idea in mind, several of these mechanisms were created in order to facilitate
the coexistence of both versions.
During the early stages of IPv6 deployment it was believed that adoption of the new protocol would
be quick enough and that IPv6 would have gained widespread adoption before IPv4 ran out. This,
however, did not happen which is why transition mechanisms are an even more relevant topic today.
Transition mechanisms can be classified according to the different techniques they apply:
Dual stack
Tunneling
Translation
It is also possible to classify the different mechanisms based on whether they assume that the
underlying infrastructure is predominantly IPv4 or IPv6. Although in the beginning there were IPv4
networks that started gradually adding IPv6 access, as IPv4 ran out, providers started considering the
deployment of IPv6 only networks. This means that transition mechanisms are needed to allow
customers in these IPv6 only networks to access networks that still only support IPv4. Many
mechanisms have been proposed and more are currently being discussed in the IETF. The following is
a description of the most widely deployed and more mature mechanisms.
An IP address consists of 32 bits. Instead of

Techniques and Concerns of Modernism
Demonstrate your understanding of the context and values of Modernism by close analysis of the
techniques and concerns of Modernism that are reflected in one poem and one short story. Modernism
as a movement is an artistic reaction to the conventional art and literature of mid to late 19th century.
World War I introduced advanced technology and the introduction of industrialisation provoked
Modernist writers to express their concerns about the changing society and the complexities it of
through their works. Urban alienation, the meaning of life as well as inner psychological perspectives
are some issues explored through the experimentation of new literary techniques as the progression

Due to the need to prove the effects of the harshness of reality, the modernist concerns of the post
World War I period resulted in changing views on traditional Victorian values and a loss of ontological
ground. The Modernist movement saw a break from traditional Victorian values such as having sex
after marriage and the perception of sex before marriage and its consequences which is illustrated
through Hills Like White Elephants . Hemingway explores the complex thoughts of the characters Fig
and the man through non linear structure of dialogue. The process of abortion is new to the woman
who tries to receive reassurance from the man but through stream of consciousness, it is apparent that
the man is all too accepting of the abortion and desensitised to it They just let the air in and then it s all
perfectly natural. Hemingway portrays the man as an insensitive human as he continues to proclaim
that the abortion is nothing and that he will love her regardless of her choice. The human condition is
also explored in Hills Like White Elephant where the meaning of life is questioned and freedom from
the burdensome pregnancy. Hemingway reflects that society has become numb to issues such as
abortion, hinting that unwanted pregnancies as a product of sex before marriage prevailed in the post

When the great holiday of Thanksgiving comes to mind, most people think of becoming total gluttons

thankfulness for blessings received during the previous year.
Every family has their own unique way of spending time together with loved ones only seen during

makes me think about the past life and the struggles I have gone through and the stuff I have seen. I

rap music they will mostly have the same emotional make up the same mindset or even an event in
their life which makes them relate to rap music. The people that relate to the same type of music I feel
like it is easier to get along with and the things you say makes sense to them. The topic of music is the
most interesting thing to me. It fascinates me as you can tell if I can write a 2,000 word paper just on
the theme of music. People that have the same relationship I do with music, I find that we become
close because I find music is one of the best ways to bring people together. I have a profound love for
music and the artists I love like Travis Scott and the ability for him and his music to make my body

Difference Between Opportunity Cost And Benefit Essay

Benefit an advantage or profit gained from something. The Difference between these words is that
opportunity cost is deciding a different route instead of the beneficial one that is offered and benefit is

How Did The Japanese Embargoes
The Japanese Empire spends the 1930 s taking more lands in the Pacific, committing acts of violence
in China and searching for oil and steel resources to continue building the military. There are
economic embargoes and complaints but no significant action is taken until after the Japanese bomb
Pearl Harbor. Appeasement did not stop the aggressions of Hitler in Europe and American industrial
embargoes did not stop the Japanese. Maybe the limited responses of America help support the
Japanese idea that America is weak and will not respond to further military actions in the Pacific. The
Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor awakens America from a twenty year nap and stirs up strong
emotions in America against the Japanese.

Capitalism And Capitalism Essay
In today s society, each and every one of use has a different view on what capitalism is and what
freedom is. As we went through this section we focused on different writing that covered capitalism
and freedom and the cultural view on each aspect. While all focused on these aspects they all had their
own view on what each was and what utopian society would be like for each and everyone. From all of
these documents we get a wider picture of what one person in one certain culture views freedom
versus what another culture views as freedom. Looking back onto the texts that we have discussed the
most prominent documents that we looked into that really spoke to the true meaning of freedom and
capitalism lays with Friedrich Hayek s work in The Road to Serfdom, The Shock Doctrine by Naomi
Klein, and the Communist Manifesto by Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels. All three works focus on
capitalism and freedom but everyone has a different view of what those look like to them.
Starting with The Road to Serfdom by Friedrich Hayek, we see that socialism is only possible if
freedom is taken into account. WIthout focusing on the aspects of freedom such as Positive and
Negative Freedoms, it would not be possible to work as a society if we did not focus on the God given
freedoms that are placed in every society. Throughout this document we see that the German
government in my perspective couldn t agree on certain plans and regulations that ultimately lead to
the rise of the dictatorship under Hitler. This view on capitalism that is perceived in this text is one
that the United States has been slowly creeping toward but we have never felt it rapidly enough to
notice what is actually happening. As we slowly creep into the future, more regulations and more
restrictions are from just as it happened in German. The main focus of this text was what went wrong
in Germany and the relationship that was shown between socialism and fascism. Also this text focuses
on the different parts of planning that occurred and how these different types of planning ultimately
affected the German societies. Also in this document we learned about rule of law. Rule of law tells
use that a law should govern a nation and not having one individual government

Understanding The Roots Of Crime
One may avoid negativity for any kind of reason. One may be distressed by it, or perhaps one may
find negativity traumatizing to their emotions. Whatever it may be, some people attempt to dodge any
sort of negativity. The topic of my independent novel serves to not only challenge the idea of avoiding
any kind of depressing news, but to bring light to new ways of thinking that humanity should adopt
should we want to understand the roots of crime. Furthermore, we should use our knowledge of these
roots to prevent crime.

alleged theft of a gym suit.
Soon after, Sylvia became incontinent, and Gertrude locked her in the basement. A bathing regime
came into action; every other day, Sylvia was burned with scalding water. She was starved and often
kept naked. Grosser indignities were to follow, with Gertrude continuing to authorize Sylvia s torture

How Is Andrew Carnegie Ethical
Andrew Carnegie is without a doubt one of the most famous rags to riches stories. He came to
America from Scotland at 12 years old in 1448. His family immigrated to avoid poverty. When he
matured, Carnegie took on a railroad assistant job and in doing this, became essential to the railroad
business. Eventually, he was able to construct and build his own steel company named Carnegie Steel
Corporation. Although Carnegie became successful philanthropist, he may not have taken the most
ethical route. While he is quoted saying The man who thus dies rich, dies disgraced, he had an appetite
for wealth himself. Using the excuse of the fall in steel prices, Carnegie argued a 20% cut in his
employees wages due to his need to be richer than his rival,

former overall commander of the SADF (South African Defense Force). He soon become the leader of

groups who had joined together for military purposes. Their main purpose was to not allow the

people did not have the same rights as whites and had grown up in an apartheid society. One day they

the riot police (mostly Afrikaners) allowed the extremist into the building. No shots were fired, but
Viljoen had shown that he had forces ready to act. Mandela was very troubled when he heard the
account of that day and immediately requested a meeting with Viljoen. Once again Mandela used his
overwhelming presence and quelled the concerns Viljoen and people like him had of the increasing
likelihood of an ANC majority in parliament. After multiple meetings with Viljoen, the only attacks

at the beginning of my time at Hope because I was busy at work with Night to Shine. But once Night

As I started to begin to think of ways to productively spend my spare time besides doing homework, I
thought of reading my Bible. Up until this point in my life I never felt the need to read my Bible. As I

conclusion was that this season of my life was happening in order for me to grow closer in my

In order to determine and analyse data for the structure and the functional of biological molecules and
also specific biological problems, with this tool and computational techniques, it enables researchers
to analyse the information that is associated with biomolecules on a wider scale through the computer
databases that is based on existing data (1).
Bioinformatics can be described as a dry practical lab work. With the use of computers, it has become
one of the easiest ways in predicting the possible outcomes of the lab experiment, and most
importantly, plays an essential role in modern biology. This helps researchers to have an idea of the
biological data that is available and the vital role in the discovery of the new biological relationships
(2). By using these tools that are available, bioinformaticians are required to familiarise themselves
with the nucleotide and protein sequence that is being analysed, the possible mutations and motifs etc.
Familiarising with structure and functions of proteins is vital in being able to manipulate it and
employ the DNA, and working with it. Nowadays, science and technology is slowly advancing
everyday, which have leads to; scientists discovering the new advances in algorithms, which is a

Pros Of Constructing A Dog Park
There has been a lot of controversy regarding the idea of constructing a dog within the city.
Personally, i am against this park for three reasons. The first reason is that it would not be a good
financial commitment to make. The second reason is that it would bring about an unecessary amount
of legal liability. Lastly, i believe that it would be disturbing to many residents of the area.
The cost of installing this dog park would be astronimical. There would have to be adequate fencing
as well as other equipment installed in order to make it functionable; all of this causing the price to
rise higher and higher. I feel that this would be an unwise committment to make considering that there
are much more vital issues that need to be

Differentiation of Cyclic Tertiary Amine Cathinone Derivatives by
Product Ion Electron Ionization Mass Spectrometry
Abstract
Rationale
A number of synthetic cathinones (aminoketones, ?bath salts?) are tertiary amines containing a cyclic
amino group, most commonly pyrrolidine. These totally synthetic compounds can be prepared in a
number of regioisomeric designer modification and many of these can yield isomeric major EI MS
fragment ions.
Methods
A series of regioisomeric cyclic tertiary amines were prepared and evaluated in EI MS and MS/MS
product ion experiments. The cyclic amines azetidine, pyrrolidine, piperidine and azepane were
incorporated into a series of aminoketones related to the cathinone derivative drug of abuse known as
MDPV. Deuterium labeling in both the cyclic amine and alkyl side chain allowed for the

Who Is Bartleby The Scrivener
Bartleby, the Scrivener by Herman Melville, is a story about the quiet struggle of the common man.
Refusing to bow to the demands of his employer, Bartleby represents a challenge to the materialistic
ideology by refusing to comply with simple requests made by his employer. The story begins with the
employer having trouble finding good employees. This is until the employer hires Bartleby. At first,
Bartleby works hard and does his job so well that everyone has a hard time imagining what it would
be like without him. After three days, Bartleby is asked by his boss to examine a legal paper. He
replies with I would prefer not to . The story ends with Bartleby being discovered occupying the office

By the end of the story, the constant refusals wear everyone down and he is left alone. When new
people move into the building, Bartleby still refuses to move from his office, leading to his arrest.
Locked away in prison, Bartleby still refuses to eat, saying that I prefer not to dine today . This is
significant because it shows that he still uses polite wording even though he has given up living. He
courteously refuses to eat and chooses to live for as long as he prefers to live and curls up against one
of the prison walls. This refusal, even in the face of death, shows an almost courageous side of
Bartleby. He knows that he will most likely die, but he still musters up the courage to continue his
fight. Due to his refusal of food, he will be buried without sustenance for the afterlife, a final nod to
his status as a man without power, appetite, or

Luck Egalitarianism Summary
In reaction to gross and compounding economic disparities in the international sphere, cosmopolitan
philosophers like Moellendorf have addressed the international state, claiming that the degree of
inequality is unjustifiable. Moellendorf operates with a Rawlsian understanding of ethical relations,
but expands this notion from the domestic sense into the international sense, claiming that the degree
of globalization is sufficient such that it creates an association in which the interdependence is
sufficiently strong, largely non voluntary and constitutive of a significant part of the background rules
that govern members lives, forming the basis of duties for distributive justice. From this understanding
for the need for global distributive justice, Moellendorf claims that the main strategy to address this
inequality is through a global progressive tax. Moellendorf s conception, however, overstates the
degree to which globalization has created international cohesiveness. Though a progressive tax would
certainly address global inequality, a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Luck egalitarianism refers to the arbitrary methods by which various states came to be in possession
of their resources and the need for a system of redistribution similar to Moellendorf s global tax in
order to address the systems of inequality arising from arbitrarily having more or less valuable
resources. Wenar, however, disagrees with the notion of a global tax, citing concerns over sentiments
of distrust in states recently liberated from former colonial states. In response to this distrust, Wenar
proposes a system of popular resource sovereignty, in which the value derived from a nation s
resources are not subject to global taxation, but rather are directed toward the benefit of the nation s
people rather than a nation s

conducted according to the guidelines of the ethics committee of our university and was approved by
our institutional review board. The study population comprised 103 males construction manual
workers (mean age, 38.73± 12.43; age range, 23 60 years) presenting with low back pain with or
without lower limb radiculopathy to the outpatient spine clinic and with lumbar disc prolapse on MRI.
Disc herniation and 250 lumbar nerve roots at the levels of disc degeneration were evaluated on MR
images for compromise. The workers included manual workers involved in physical and mechanical
work such as bricklayers, concrete mixers, crane operators and plumbers. Patients with prior back
surgery, spine fractures, sacroiliac arthritis, metabolic bone disease, spinal infection and rheumatoid
arthritis, were excluded. Each worker gave a written informed consent to participate in our study. II.
Methods All workers were subjected to the following: 1. Face to face interview using a predesigned
questionnaire: The questionnaire included demographic information (e.g. name, age, height, body
weight, job description, work experience, duration of present work) and data on low back pain
perceived causes and symptoms. Visual Analogue Scale 100mm (VAS) was used to assess pain and
Oswestry Disability Index (ODI) was used to assess functional disability pre and 3months post

The Artistic Aspect of Architecture Essay
The Artistic Aspect of Architecture
Architecture is undeniably one of the most powerful forms of art. Buildings have the ability to loom in
the distance when seen from afar. As you approach it more and more details can be seen. Minute
intricacies such as stone quality, texture, and perhaps some ornate detailing become apparent. Even
standing at a doorway can provide some involved feelings. Does the building seem to invite the
viewer inside with elaborate carvings and an open view to the interior? Or does it intimidate the
viewer with its massive proportions making them feel insignificant and trivial? When inside the
architecture as a medium the viewer is surrounded by and grasped within its walls and ceiling. This
quality is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This captivation has endured through the ages so as to elevate these structures beyond mere buildings
and to the status of art. In this light, the buildings can now be admired quite like a painting or a
sculpture in respect to the composition and placement of key components that come together to make
the glorified whole.
One significant part of any building is its door. How the interior is transferred into the exterior is very
important. Stepping through the doorway of a door is much like the thought of stepping between a
portal in between two realms. One of the most graceful examples of this transition is illustrated
through the Cathedral of Notre Dame of Paris north transept.
A string of events and thoughts occurs to the viewer when approaching the gothic cathedral s northern
transept. We see the gigantic façade of the Church. Curiosity invites us into the structure through the
tremendous stained glass rose. We see the rose, darkened because of the absence of light not coming
from the inside of the church. Automatically, the mind imagines the point of view one would have
from inside the cathedral while witnessing the light pass through the beautifully colored glass. Another
way that we are invited to step through the portal is through the fact that the portal offers a space that
is not totally outside nor inside, providing a smooth transition. The portal has a roof so that if

The Classic Era Of Cars In The 1930 s
Cars were idolized in the 1930 s, everyone wanted them. When the cars first became popular they
weren t worried about the utility of the car. The style and design was more about elegance and luxury.
Everyone wanted their cars to nice, the 1930 s were considered the Classic Era of cars (Cooke). There
were so many companies that began making cars back then, many of them are still making cars to this
day. Though some companies never made it out of the 1930 s the cars are still around. The cars back
then changed the look and style of cars to this day. The purchasing of a car was different from now.
Everyone would see the cars on the showroom floors and those would sell. Many companies
advertised in magazines and catalogs, they would send these catalogs were sent to showroom workers
who got potential buyers for the companies. People would look at the car for luxury or sportiness,
speed was a big factor of the decision. The glamorous teardrop shape stayed around even into the 1940
s. Cars were the new horse carriages, they wanted to go fast. The cost of a car was a very different
from now, before the great depression cars went for two hundred dollars to five hundred. After that
they went up in the thousands, prices varied from each car and depending on the companies (Cooke).

Nonconformity In Transcendentalism Poems
Nonconformity is one of the themes used in transcendentalism poems. It is used to mostly provide
support for another important theme, Self reliance. The story and theme are two different things by the
way. Nonconformity is usually used to give the reader a direct definitions of someone s originality and
individuality. In the beginning of Self Reliance by Ralph Waldo Emerson, he says, whoso would be a

not take it for granted. Many people are good at things and like to brag but that is not how it should

The Frontier Of American History
In the Significance of the Frontier in American History, Frederick Jackson Turner discusses the
understanding of the West as a concept. Turner s claims included that the expansion into the frontier
fueled individualism, stimulated democracy and nationalism, and widened the opportunity of
advancement. In the census of 1890, the frontier no longer had a place in the report because the
previously unsettled areas had been broken into areas of settlement. Turner uses the definition of two
people per square mile of land as the frontier s official closing, and no longer a point of historical
relevance. In the essay, Turner points out the differences in America s expansion with other nations.

The problem developed from excess credit of one of the field s founders, Frederick Jackson Turner.
Although Turner s writings left out large groups of people, many Americans viewed Turner s thesis as
Western history. When Turner s ideas began to be criticized, that something had gone wrong in
Western history, not Turner s thesis. The view of Western history slowly began to change. Turner
recognized the national significance of the frontier, so abandoning him would threaten the place of the
West in American history (Limerick). In 1984, American historian Patricia Limerick attended a history
conference. All of the focus of the history of America was on the revolutionary war in the East. This
inspired her to write Legacy of Conquest. Limerick wanted to reclaim what other historians have said,
critique Turner, but not throw the idea of the west away. Her thesis argues the West as a place of
property and cultural dominance. Limerick defines the West as a place of conquest and diversity.
Limerick stresses the West as a place rather than a process, but didn t draw exact borders of the region.
Limerick deemphasizes the end of the frontier; she argues that the West was an important meeting
ground for a diversity of languages, cultures, and religions, including minorities Turner left out. This
blending of diversity in the West is an

Descriptive Essay About Grandfather
The Lesson Taught Over a Lifetime
My grandfather was an extraordinary man. He seemed to know exactly how to reach everyone on a
personal level that was around him. This caused me to view him as larger than life as a child. He was
the true adventurous type, and he had been that way since he was a child, at least that is what I assume
due to his remarkable stories he told about himself as a young boy. He was the type of man that was so
full of life that you could never imagine that life ever leaving him. The cool, crisp air bit at my little
nose as I drug my bright pink snow boats through the thick heavy snow. As I looked down at the
boots, I remembered my grandfather handing them to me just two months earlier for my 12th birthday.
It made me move my little feet even faster in hopes to get up the driveway to see him. I got up to the
front door and kicked off my boots as I swung open the door, the aroma of the honey glazed ham filled
my nose and the loud, festive music flooded my ears. I didn t even take my coat off before running
into the kitchen to find my grandfather slaving away on his new culinary creation, which he had found
on one of his travels he had taken that summer.
The tall man saw me coming and effortlessly swung down and picked me up to see what he was
working on. I scrunch up my nose at the sour, pungent smell of the creamy white soup with what
looked like bugs floating around in it. My grandpa tells me to close my eyes and to open my mouth

Response Bias
There are multiple types of survey methods utilized in research. Three of the main survey methods
include interviews, electronic surveys, and written surveys. In interviews, the assessor works directly
with the respondent to obtain responses to the survey. Utilizing interviews allow researchers to obtain
comprehensive and thorough responses. Moreover, the interviewer is able to follow up on certain
responses if more information is needed. Despite these benefits, interviews have some potential
disadvantages. It is difficult to obtain a representative sample of a population willing to participate in
an interview. Additionally, this type of survey is often costly in time and money. Furthermore, there is
potential for interviewer bias to affect ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are several types of response biases that can impact the outcome of a study. Social desirability
bias is a type of response bias that occurs when an individual s response is chosen because of their
desire to look favorable, rather than their true feelings (Fisher, 1993). One way to decrease the effects
of the social desirability bias is to use electronic surveys; individuals are more likely to respond
honestly to electronic surveys due to their anonymity (Chamberlain, 2016). Another type of bias that
can alter the results of a study is known as acquiescent response bias. Acquiescence bias, also known
as yea saying, refers to the tendency of respondents to agree to questions regardless of the content
(Wright, 1975). The use of both negative and positive questions reduces the likelihood of this bias
occurring (Wright, 1975). Nonresponse bias is another type of bias that may occur when using a
survey. This type of bias occurs when the responses from the individuals who respond to the survey
differ from those who did not respond (Armstrong Overton, 1977). Nonresponse bias often occurs in
written surveys, particularly in mail surveys (Armstrong Overton, 1977). In addition, using questions
that favor one response or another can cause a response bias to occur. Researchers can avoid leading
questions by using neutral words to formulate their survey. Anytime response bias occurs the validity
of the results may be compromised (Chamberlain, 2016). It is imperative researchers utilize
procedures to check for response bias to avoid making false conclusions based on a systematic
response bias rather than the hypothesized

Extraction Techniques For Rough Medications
Extraction, as the term is utilized pharmaceutically, includes the partition of restoratively dynamic
segments of plant or creature tissues from the idle or latent parts by utilizing particular solvents as a
part of standard extraction strategies. The items so acquired from plants are generally polluted fluids,
semisolids or powders expected just for oral or outside use. These incorporate classes of arrangements
known as decoctions, implantations, liquid removes, tinctures, pilular (semisolid) separates and
powdered concentrates. Such arrangements famously have been called galenicals, named after Galen,
the second century Greek doctor. The motivations behind institutionalized extraction techniques for
rough medications are to achieve the restoratively sought divide and to wipe out the dormant material
by treatment with a specific dissolvable known as menstrum. The concentrate along these lines got
might be prepared for use as a restorative specialists in the type of tinctures and liquid concentrates, it
might be further prepared to be fused in any dose frame, for example, tablets or cases, or it might be
fractionated to seclude singular concoction substances, for example, ajmalicine, hyoscine also,
vincristine, which are modem drugs. In this way, institutionalization of extraction strategies
contributes fundamentally to the last nature of the home grown medication. The concoction properties

Native American Mascots Should Be Changed
In the recent years the media has sparked a controversy weather names such as the Redskins should be
changed and this debate still rages on because there is no clear cut answer. I am on the side that Native
American mascots should not be changed. First, Native American people see this as a chance for
dialogue and conflict resolution. Next, This gives people to have an insight on Native American
culture. Finally, many Native Americans feel that the names are not offensive.
Native Americans see this issue of mascots as a topic that needs discussion. This discussion is seen by
Native Americans as a way to learn about their culture as written by Paul Lukas in an interview with
Frank Cloutier, a Native American man,
What if a high school or university wasn t interested in doing these types of cultural exchanges and

The Persian Gulf War was between the United States and Iraq. It started August 2, 1990 and didn t end

they had to pay for 8 year war between them and Iran and they wanted to gain access to the oil market.
Which the only way to do this was accessing the Persian Gulf and Kuwait was the easiest country to

was called Operation Desert Shield . This was a U.S operational name for the buildup of U.S forces in
Saudi Arabia. To surround and contain Iraq s armed forces. This operation took place from 2 August

The initial conflict to expel Iraqi troops from Kuwait began with an aerial and naval bombardment on
17 January 1991, continuing for five weeks. This was followed by a ground assault on 24 February.
This was a decisive victory for the Coalition forces, who liberated Kuwait and advanced into Iraqi

Arab And Norman Dominations
When talking about the historical periods of Sicily, especially the period of Arab and Norman

usually tied together and represented as one unique period, the Arab Norman. When the Normans
conquered Sicily during the 11th century, some elements of the Arab world were not removed, but
assimilated and improved. In this respect, we can talk of an historical continuity between Arab and
Norman dominations in Sicily. Institutionally, the Normans combined the administrative organisation
of the Byzantines, Arabs, and Lombards with their own conceptions of feudal law and order to forge a
unique government. Under this state, there was great religious freedom,

The Tragedy Of Macbeth By Raphael Holinshed
Do we really know all of the facts about Macbeth solely based on Shakespeare s play? Shakespeare
took great liberties with the material in Raphael Holinshed s series called, Holinshed s Chronicles,
altering it to suit his dramatic purposes (McGraw, 306). Most of the information in the play, The
Tragedy of Macbeth is based off of Holinshed s books, therefore, Macbeth is portrayed extremely
different in the play than he actually was in reality. Macbeth was born in c. 1005 at Alba, Scotland.
His parent s names are Findlaech mac Ruaidri and Doada. Macbeth s father was Mormaer of Moray
until he was killed by his cousin s, Malcolm and Gillecomgain, which was possibly brought on by
Findlaech being too close to Malcolm II. His mother was the second daughter of Malcolm II
(bio.com). Macbeth married Gruoch, also mentioned by the name of Lady Macbeth in the play, and
she had a son named Lulach, which made him Macbeth s stepson (Heydt, 55 7). Macbeth died on
August 15, 1057 at Lumphanan, Scotland. He was buried in the Holy Isle of Iony, which was where
many of the Scottish kings were buried (bio.com). When Macbeth s father was murdered, he
disappeared for a while because he was not mature enough to take on that kind of responsibility so
someone else took his place until he was able to make rational decisions on his own and until he was
mature enough to carry on his father s legacy by taking on the title of Mormaer of Moray (Heydt, 55
7). Around 1032, Macbeth returned, and was

Feminism in Late 19th Century American Short Stories
Research Question: How is feminism revealed through the divergence of women s roles in society and
their own personal desires in the American short stories The Yellow Wall Paper, The Story of an Hour,
The Storm, and Life in the Iron Mills ?
Introduction
Literature changes as current events change and as the structure of society begins to shift. American
feminist literature started to become prevalent during the Victorian era, or around the latter part of the
19th century. This is the time when the first wave of feminism in the United States hit. The Seneca
Falls Convention the first women s rights convention and the emergence of Elizabeth Cady Stanton
and Susan B. Anthony s American Equal Rights Association in the middle of the 19th century are
among some of the noteable events that sparked this movement in literature. Women across America
were inspired by the changing of the times, and that is reflected in many American female authors
writings.
Some of these authors include Charlotte Perkins Gilman, Kate Chopin, and Rebecca Harding Davis,
whose short stories speak volumes about the thoughts and emotions of women during this time period.
Life in the Iron Mills was written in 1861, The Yellow Wall Paper in 1892, The Story of an Hour in
1894, and finally The Storm in 1898. Every story was written during the Victorian era; every author
had personally experienced life

How Is Thailand Different From The Us
When comparing Thailand and the United States of America, there are many differences. For example,
the way each country is located on the globe. Thailand is located below and closer to the equator than
the U.S., where it is above the equator and a little farther from it. On the other hand, both countries
have a lot of beautiful places and are surrounded by body of oceans. Lots of people like to visit these
two countries; however, most people in Thailand want to move to the U.S. for jobs and better lives.
Most people in the U.S. like to visit Thailand for good food and warm weather. Although, not all
differences are bad, there are some major differences that make living in one country better than the
other. Those include lifestyle, education, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When a person buys a house in Thailand, they make one payment and the house become theirs
forever. In America, when most people buy a house, they have to make payments for many years, with
interest. There are also differences in getting licenses to drive, fish, or own a gun, for example. In
Thailand, there is no need for any license before being able to do any of those. On the hand, in the
U.S., people are required to take tests and buy licenses before they can drive, fish, or own a gun.
Thailand is a poor country, so education isn t very important. Most families that do not have money
are either working at the farms or working for rich people. Going to school cost money, so only those
who can pay get an education. In America, anyone can go to public school and get an education. There
is also a chance to get a GED for anyone over 18 years old and have not graduated high school. Also,
if anyone wants to go to college, there are government programs that can help pay for school.
Freedom is also different in each country. In Thailand, there isn t a government with a president. They
have a king and an army that watches over the people and makes decisions for the people. In the U.S.
there is a President, Governors, Senators, and Mayors that are chosen by the people. Laws are made
by voting in the U.S., but in Thailand, they are just forced by the King and

The Steam Engine And The Industrial Revolution
Steam Engine The Industrial Revolution took place from the 18th to the 19th centuries. The Industrial
Revolution was a period during which predominantly agrarian, rural societies in Europe and America
became industrial and urban. Prior to the Industrial Revolution which began in Britain in the late
1700s, manufacturing was often done in people s homes, using handtools or basic machines.
Industrialization marked a shift to powered, special purpose machinery, factories and mass production.
The iron and textile industries, along with the development of the steam engine, played central roles in
the Industrial Revolution. The way the iron and textile industries and the development of the steam
engine played central roles in the Industrial Revolution is the things they led to such as improved
systems of transportation, communication and banking. The invention of the steam engine happened
in 1698 by Thomas Savery. The first invention of the steam engine was not quite called the steam
engine, it was actually first called water by fire . It was called water by fire because it was first used to
pump water out from the mines. The water by fire worked by boiling water until it was completely
converted into vapor. The steam was then collected in a tank extracting every droplet of vapor from
the original tank, thereby creating a vacuum in the original container. It was this vacuum that was
employed to produce an adequate amount of energy to pump water out from the mines. The

Preserving Manovo Gounda St Floris National Park
Introduction to Life Science (Axia) SCI/230
The threat to Manovo Gounda St floris National Park is overwhelming and should be of great concern.
Manovo Gounda St floris National Park was designated as a World heritage Park because of its unique
natural formations and its endangered species. For this reason special attention should be made to help
save and preserve the forest and the wild life that resides on the land.
According to the unep wcmc.org web site that the Park is said to occupy most of the eastern end of
Bamingui Bangoran province in the north of the country, and its boundary on the north is the

The Park is not safe for individuals to go and enjoy the Parks natural beauty. The government of the
Central African Republic has expected to be assigning site management task to a undisclosed
Foundation to help out with the progress. The research of a comprehensive management report and
remedy plan for the site has been suggested by the World Heritage Committee (www.unesco.org).
Other factors cause concerns are fires in the park, whether started by, poachers, cattle grazers, hunters
or guards who accidentally start them. The fire threat is do to the fact that illegal grazing occurs during
the dry season, with huge numbers of cattle moving through the park which also introduces diseases to
the parks wildlife as well (unep wcmc.org).
So on top of the poachers harming the animal and the plants, the diseases that they introduce to the
park will get the wildlife as well. The cattle grazers may feel that they do not have a choice or their
life stock will die off, feeling that the sacrifice of the Park is worth it. Where will they go when they
have demolished the park? What area will they

  • 3. Reflection On A Separate Peace To Be Human: A Separate Peace Reflection Compassion plays a significant role in everyone s lives: it is what parents teach their children from a young age, it is how human kindness is forwarded, it is how people make friends and fall in love. It is simultaneously what fuels the lives of individuals and what shapes the lives of those around them. In times of war or united struggle, though, compassion becomes harder to come by. John Knowles, author of the historical fiction novel A Separate Peace, demonstrates the toll war takes on one s soul through it s main character, Gene Forrester. As World War II continues amidst the events Gene encounters at Devon School, the reader observes Gene s transformation into an apathetic human being through his distrusting of others, actions towards his peer, Leper, and his response to his best friend s death. Gene s descent of character makes Knowles personal perspective on war clear as well: it either kills you or kills your mind. Though A Separate Peace follows Gene s life as a junior at Devon School and not as a soldier on the front line, much of Gene and his peers average school day revolves around the war. Considering such a state of mind, of course Gene s life parallels the life of a soldier. One of the most striking similarities between Gene s life and a World War II soldier s is their loss of compassion amongst tragedy. Like a soldier, Gene entered his battlefield Devon School with his emotions intact and a healthy bulk of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Rembrandt Van Rijn Essay McKenna de Graaf Mr. Hovater World History 28 March 2013 Rembrandt van Rijn People consider the Dutch painter and etcher, Rembrandt Harmenszoon van Rijn, an important figure in Dutch history. He achieved success at a very early age but had personal tragedies and financial hardships in his later years. Many are familiar with Rembrandt s reputation. Rembrandt s works show his greatest accomplishments. Mainly his childhood and home life influenced his works. Steadfastly, Rembrandt van Rijn, the greatest Dutch portrait painter of all time, revealed his brilliance by creating realistic masterpieces of poor, working class subjects, and the ones he loved and lost. Unfortunately, Rembrandt faced financial difficulties as well that he never paid attention but would later affect him. After Saskia gave birth to four children, only the last one, Titus, survived to grow up. Many believe that the birth of Titus explained Saskia s fatal illness. On June 14, 1642, Saskia van Ulenborch died when Titus was only a year old. Five days later, she was buried in the Oude Kerk. In the 1640s, Rembrandt van Rijn hired Hendrickje Stoffels as his servant that later became his mistress after the death of Saskia. Yet, he could not marry Hendrickje or else he would have lost the income from Saskia s part of the estate. Hendrickje played Saskia s role in all but name (White 129). Hendrickje and Titus became models in numerous works of Rembrandt. Rembrandt and his new partner soon had a girl named Cornelia. In 1653, Rembrandt began to face trouble, the worst year of the economic depression caused by the First Anglo Dutch War. The war almost led to a financial collapse in Amsterdam. Rembrandt owed money for his house, paid no interest on the exorbitant amount for the past five years, and had let the original owner pay the taxes on the house for the past three years. Rembrandt van Rijn sold many of his possessions to pay off his debt. He finally left his house and moved into a simpler one on the other side of the city, Jordaan. In July of 1663, Hendrickje Stoffels died. Many say that the plague could have ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

But they were not alone in their military conquests and vast empires; there were many equal to, or perhaps even greater, than them, and it is important not to overlook the achievements of these peoples who have helped to shape history. The Persian Empire is one such of these civilisations, rising to prominence in the mid sixth century BCE and enduring for two hundred years, a small amount of time in which it conquered an impressive amount of territory. At its height, it controlled a huge swathe of land centred in modern day Iran, stretching as far north as the Russian border, as far south as Egypt, and as far ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The efficiency of the Persian Empire s rule over a large area inhabited by people of various different cultures and traditions was one of its most significant achievements. To maintain order, the empire was split into approximately twenty areas known as satrapies, each ruled by a satrap, generally a local of the area. This governmental system enabled large scale taxation to take place, as each satrap collected money from his area and sent it back to the emperor, something which would have been near impossible without these regional leaders; collection of tax provided a constant flow of money to fund the Persian Empire and its operations. Persia also maintained cohesion in its empire through implementation of a common language for use in all government documents, the development of standardised weights and official coinage, and the introduction of a single set of laws to govern the empire in its entirety. Perhaps the most notable achievement of the Persians was the Royal Road, a highway built by Darius I that allowed prompt communication and intelligence gathering, and stretched approximately three thousand kilometres across the Persian Empire. With fresh messengers and horses waiting at stations along this road, a message could be delivered in seven days where it might formerly have taken three months. Over time though, humans have evolved and gotten stronger and smarter which lead to more competition. War from its beginning, has consistently stemmed from the innate sense of evolutionary survival and subsequent competition, thus securing it s inevitable perpetuation. The only thing that every person has in common is that they want to survive. Humans are always fighting. Religions differing has caused many conflicts throughout history. The feeling of attachment to tribalism and fake patriotism under the umbrella of religion is stronger and more apparent than respect for human rights and pluralism (Mhamed 2). The Constitution And The Articles Of Confederation Rules would be the new topic of discussion at the end of the American Revolution amongst the newly formed Free states that won their independence from Britain. One huge question loomed over the Free states, how could they conduct a civilized way of living without another ruler such as the king of Britain here in America? There needed to be some sort of system that would generate a control to create a unified country. States were acting and conducting business as if each state was its own country and this left the America vulnerable on many fronts. Some of the main issues that surfaced were; How to divide powers between local and national governments? Which laws should be made, and by whom and who would enforce them? I will address some of the differences between the Constitution and The Articles of Confederation. The Articles of Confederation were designed and formed from the thirteen states that created a Confederation known as the league of friendship ; their goal was to find solutions for problems; and one of the first attempts to create a system. The Articles of Confederation was our nation s first constitution; during the last years of the Revolutionary war, the government had been conducting our country s affairs helping to negotiate the Treaty of Paris in 1783. The Articles of Confederation were a set of principles set forth that got our nation through the Revolutionary war. Transition Mechanism Of The Internet Protocol Essay Transition mechanism is a technology that facilitates the transitioning of the Internet from the Internet Protocol version 4 (IPv4) infrastructure Mechanism to allow a smooth transition to the new version of the IP protocol, without the need for an abrupt change. With this idea in mind, several of these mechanisms were created in order to facilitate the coexistence of both versions. During the early stages of IPv6 deployment it was believed that adoption of the new protocol would be quick enough and that IPv6 would have gained widespread adoption before IPv4 ran out. This, however, did not happen which is why transition mechanisms are an even more relevant topic today. Transition mechanisms can be classified according to the different techniques they apply: Dual stack Tunneling Translation It is also possible to classify the different mechanisms based on whether they assume that the underlying infrastructure is predominantly IPv4 or IPv6. Although in the beginning there were IPv4 networks that started gradually adding IPv6 access, as IPv4 ran out, providers started considering the deployment of IPv6 only networks. This means that transition mechanisms are needed to allow customers in these IPv6 only networks to access networks that still only support IPv4. Many mechanisms have been proposed and more are currently being discussed in the IETF. The following is a description of the most widely deployed and more mature mechanisms. As we went through this section we focused on different writing that covered capitalism and freedom and the cultural view on each aspect. While all focused on these aspects they all had their own view on what each was and what utopian society would be like for each and everyone. From all of these documents we get a wider picture of what one person in one certain culture views freedom versus what another culture views as freedom. Looking back onto the texts that we have discussed the most prominent documents that we looked into that really spoke to the true meaning of freedom and capitalism lays with Friedrich Hayek s work in The Road to Serfdom, The Shock Doctrine by Naomi Klein, and the Communist Manifesto by Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels. All three works focus on capitalism and freedom but everyone has a different view of what those look like to them. Starting with The Road to Serfdom by Friedrich Hayek, we see that socialism is only possible if freedom is taken into account. WIthout focusing on the aspects of freedom such as Positive and Negative Freedoms, it would not be possible to work as a society if we did not focus on the God given freedoms that are placed in every society. Throughout this document we see that the German government in my perspective couldn t agree on certain plans and regulations that ultimately lead to the rise of the dictatorship under Hitler. This view on capitalism that is perceived in this text is one that the United States has been slowly creeping toward but we have never felt it rapidly enough to notice what is actually happening. As we slowly creep into the future, more regulations and more restrictions are from just as it happened in German. The main focus of this text was what went wrong in Germany and the relationship that was shown between socialism and fascism. Also this text focuses on the different parts of planning that occurred and how these different types of planning ultimately affected the German societies. Bioinformatics can be described as a dry practical lab work. With the use of computers, it has become one of the easiest ways in predicting the possible outcomes of the lab experiment, and most importantly, plays an essential role in modern biology. This helps researchers to have an idea of the biological data that is available and the vital role in the discovery of the new biological relationships (2). By using these tools that are available, bioinformaticians are required to familiarise themselves with the nucleotide and protein sequence that is being analysed, the possible mutations and motifs etc. Familiarising with structure and functions of proteins is vital in being able to manipulate it and employ the DNA, and working with it. The first reason is that it would not be a good financial commitment to make. The second reason is that it would bring about an unecessary amount of legal liability. Lastly, i believe that it would be disturbing to many residents of the area. The cost of installing this dog park would be astronimical. • 26. Luck Egalitarianism Summary In reaction to gross and compounding economic disparities in the international sphere, cosmopolitan philosophers like Moellendorf have addressed the international state, claiming that the degree of inequality is unjustifiable. Moellendorf operates with a Rawlsian understanding of ethical relations, but expands this notion from the domestic sense into the international sense, claiming that the degree of globalization is sufficient such that it creates an association in which the interdependence is sufficiently strong, largely non voluntary and constitutive of a significant part of the background rules that govern members lives, forming the basis of duties for distributive justice. From this understanding for the need for global distributive justice, Moellendorf claims that the main strategy to address this inequality is through a global progressive tax. Buildings have the ability to loom in the distance when seen from afar. As you approach it more and more details can be seen. Does the building seem to invite the viewer inside with elaborate carvings and an open view to the interior? One significant part of any building is its door. How the interior is transferred into the exterior is very important. Stepping through the doorway of a door is much like the thought of stepping between a portal in between two realms. One of the most graceful examples of this transition is illustrated through the Cathedral of Notre Dame of Paris north transept. A string of events and thoughts occurs to the viewer when approaching the gothic cathedral s northern transept. We see the gigantic façade of the Church. Curiosity invites us into the structure through the tremendous stained glass rose. We see the rose, darkened because of the absence of light not coming from the inside of the church. In 1984, American historian Patricia Limerick attended a history conference. All of the focus of the history of America was on the revolutionary war in the East. This inspired her to write Legacy of Conquest. Limerick wanted to reclaim what other historians have said, critique Turner, but not throw the idea of the west away. Social desirability bias is a type of response bias that occurs when an individual s response is chosen because of their desire to look favorable, rather than their true feelings (Fisher, 1993). One way to decrease the effects of the social desirability bias is to use electronic surveys; individuals are more likely to respond honestly to electronic surveys due to their anonymity (Chamberlain, 2016). Another type of bias that can alter the results of a study is known as acquiescent response bias. Acquiescence bias, also known as yea saying, refers to the tendency of respondents to agree to questions regardless of the content (Wright, 1975). The use of both negative and positive questions reduces the likelihood of this bias occurring (Wright, 1975). Nonresponse bias is another type of bias that may occur when using a survey. This type of bias occurs when the responses from the individuals who respond to the survey differ from those who did not respond (Armstrong Overton, 1977). Nonresponse bias often occurs in written surveys, particularly in mail surveys (Armstrong Overton, 1977). In addition, using questions that favor one response or another can cause a response bias to occur. Researchers can avoid leading questions by using neutral words to formulate their survey. Anytime response bias occurs the validity of the results may be compromised (Chamberlain, 2016). It is imperative researchers utilize procedures to check for response bias to avoid making false conclusions based on a systematic response bias rather than the hypothesized ... Macbeth s father was Mormaer of Moray until he was killed by his cousin s, Malcolm and Gillecomgain, which was possibly brought on by Findlaech being too close to Malcolm II. His mother was the second daughter of Malcolm II (bio.com). Macbeth married Gruoch, also mentioned by the name of Lady Macbeth in the play, and she had a son named Lulach, which made him Macbeth s stepson (Heydt, 55 7). Macbeth died on August 15, 1057 at Lumphanan, Scotland. He was buried in the Holy Isle of Iony, which was where many of the Scottish kings were buried (bio.com).
