Scottish Archaeology Essay
Scotland has an abundance of archaeology all throughout the country and all within different parts
of prehistory. Scottish archaeology has a big impact on both the rest of the UK and on the rest of
Europe. Although during the beginning of the 20th century, archaeology was seen as nothing more
than labour, with the help of the two great men which held the Abercromby chair both with their
own contributions to Scottish archaeology as a whole it soon rocketed into the discipline what we
see today.
It s important to note that during the beginnings of the 20th century, Scotland s archaeology wasn t
as advanced as it is today and a simple but effective way that the honourable John Abercromby
sought to overcome this was by putting a chair in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As he believed that archaeology should become a science and the first step to do this was to
establish a systematic and significant classification for its materials (Patterson and Orser,
2004:25). However he didn t just classify these objects, he was able to think about how
everything was connected, it s explained that he was no longer content with merely describing
and classifying the objects he uncovered; he must ascertain how they were made and whence the
materials for their manufacture came (Ibid, 36). He managed to link what he had found and
connected it not only with the other artefacts that he had found but also the rest of the landscape,
by simply linking everything together he had managed to gain a bigger picture of Scotland, he
also managed to connect the prehistory of Scotland to the prehistory of Europe by comparing
artefacts and seeing the relationships between the two (Sherrat, 1989:151). An effective way that
he could show off the information that he had found was by writing books not just for the
educated upper class but also the middle class, and in many publications he presented a synthesis
of knowledge covering a vast and complex field in an authoritative and unique manner (The
Editors of Encyclopaedia Britannica, 2015). Whilst he was digging at Skara Brae, visitors were not
uncommon, it let them see first hand what was happening and it allowed for more people

Ancient Japan
The first documents of japan where discovered in china from the 1st century AD but was
inhabited as early as the upper Paleolithic period. From the 12th century until 1868 Japan was
ruled by Emperors who put japan in war with its self. Japan got rid of the emperors 17th century
and isolated themselves. The isolation ended in 1853 when the USA forced Japan to reveal them

Ethnic Conflict in the United States
Ethnic Conflict in the United States
The United States is considered a melting pot because of the vast array of different cultures,
ethnicities, and religious groups who all live within its borders. Other countries with fewer cultural
differences have been torn apart by the conflicts that arise between these differing groups. It is
believed by some that the United States has been able to avoid such ethical conflicts as have
brought down other nations but looking at American history it is evident that this is not true.
America s history is one of ethnic conflict because of religion, nationalistic, and particularly ethnic
differences. The two centuries that the United States has existed has been a history of racial
marginalization particularly against African Americans which culminated with the Civil Rights
Movement of the 1950s and 1960s. In the present, the United States likes to claim that as a nation,
we are color blind but evidence exists to the contrary. The Klu Klux Klan (KKK) still exists, hate
crimes are committed based on ethnicity, and stereotypes are perpetuated in order to minimize and
ostracize. Despite these instances, the country has held strong largely because although these
instances occur, they are not approved of by the government or those involved in criminal justice.
The United States is made up of peoples from all over the world but that does not mean we have
not had to deal with ethnic conflict. The most obvious has been the history of

The Pros And Cons Of The Military Service
Although many people are familiar with the heroic conscientious objector, World War II American
Army Medic Desmond T. Doss, very few people are familiar with the names of recent
conscientious objectors. In fact, in an all volunteer force that exists in the United States military
today, some would be shocked to learn that about 60 members of the military still apply for to be a
conscientious objectoreach year. While numerous military members and United States civilians
agree that it is outrageous for a volunteer to the military to decide they cannot fight in a war they
enlisted to participate in, this does not fully encapsulate the issue at hand. The Military Service is
incentivized, offering a career, education, and life long benefits; thus, some will volunteer for
Military Service without deeply considering the ethics of service and their personal convictions;
moreover, the nature of war causes man to struggle with the morality after deployment, resulting in
a conviction arriving late into one s career. Therefore, when faced with unresolved conflict of
conscience, it is necessary for a military member to examine their moral beliefs in order to make an
ethical decision regarding whether to continue military participation.
When enlisting into any branch of the United States Armed Forces, there is plenty of documentation
to accompany it. In addition to the personal history, medical investigations, and physical readiness
testing, there are specific questions to ensure each

The Stranger Absurdism
The Stranger focuses on the character of Meursault, a man whose perspective cannot be understood
by those around him. His neutral character is created by Albert Camus to reveal many themes and
paradoxes within the text. The title itself has its own significant meaning, and the characters and
themes within the text can reveal its meaning to the novel. The title The Strangerreveals Meursault s
strange character stemming from absurdismafter being isolated from everyone, as well the stranger
within those who judge him throughout the novel.
Meursault acts apart from everyone else in The Stranger, making him strange and different from
everyone else. This connects to the theme of isolation and how Meursault deals with it. His
separation from society, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although Meursault begins to have realizations of his actions and his own self, he is still being
judged by everyone as a stranger according to his actions in Part 1, a man who had no reasoning
or explanation behind anything he did. The reason Meursault shot the arab multiple times does
not exist, he had no reason to shoot him, but he just did. This once again shows absurdism,
because there is no explanation for his actions, and this disturbs the jury even more, and they
harshly judge him. Meursault is not the only stranger though. As he was seen as a stranger by
those who were judging him in Part 2, he saw those same people as strangers too. In Chapter
three, Meursault was under a ton of pressure in the court sessions, and as everyone was staring at
him, he could not recognize a single face. Everyone was a stranger to him, and With the crowd
and stuffiness of the air ... was feeling a bit dizzy (Camus 52). As Meursault was unable to
recognize anyone, he became uncomfortable. It is also important to recognize that in Part 2,
Meursault does not name anyone, unlike Part 1. He only names people by their role, such as
magistrate or prosecutor. He is once again isolated from everyone in Part 2, and they are all
strangers to him as he is being judged for his murder. Absurdism and isolation show their role in
making Meursault, as

Irene Gut Opdyk Sacrifice
Nomination For Irene Gut Opdyke For Courage to Care Award
The Courage to Care award deserves to go to Irene Gut Opdyke because of her heroic
characteristics which were brave, self sacrificing, and good hearted. These qualities allowed her to
contribute heroic actions. Irene did this during the most terrifying time for most people. The
Holocaust was period time where 6 million European Jews, as well as gypsies and homosexuals
were killed by the German Nazi regime. The Nazi s became of power in the month of January
1933. The hate for the jews came from the idea that the jews were inferior where as the Germans
were racially superior, also that jews were alien to the so called racial community of the Germans.

It is important to remember the ACEI block the production of angiotensin II altogether, which also
block the enzyme kinase. This mechanism allows for vasodilation, decreased blood volume, and
the suppression aldosterone: allowing for decreased blood pressure and a slight decrease in edema.
While the suppression of kinase can cause an accumulation of bradykinin in the lungs, causing a
cough, ACEIs are considered the number one go to drug for hypertension and heart failure. ARBS,
working in much the same way as ACEIs, block angiotensin II receptor sites. This allows for
kinase to work again bradykinin, and does not produce the adverse cough. Diuretics are a must in
most hypertensive patients because they decrease edema, lower blood volume, and decrease the
workload of the heart. It is important to watch for adverse side effects such as hypokalemia and
hypotension in some patients. By combining all of this knowledge with appropriate lifestyle
changes, a clinician can successfully manage a patient s hypertension and heart

Mission Statements For Family Business
Family businesses are likely to use strategic ambiguity in their mission statements to allow for
multiple interpretations of the same message by their stakeholders, (Carmon, 2013). The author
suggests that smaller organizations may use vague language in their mission statements for the
purpose of allowing for more than one interpretation. According to Carmon, Thirteen of the 14
mission statementsmade no direct reference to being a family business, perhaps encouraging non
family member employees to take an active role in the organizations, (Carmon, 2013, p.4). The

their purpose and action plan to accomplish that goal.
This essay will summarize the research report s findings, offer a critique of those findings and how
best to utilize mission statements for small family businesses. The author wrote the research paper
to examine the relationship of vague terms used in mission statements for family businesses. The
author s method was to survey twenty larger family owned businesses with no specific industry

Avon s wide and persistent gap between net income and free cash flows have been highlighted as
the main reason for the company s problems. The gap indicates that the company s investments aren

Due to the company s reliance on its direct selling business model, earning potential and
satisfaction of its representatives and maintaining its business model are essential for the company
s success in global markets Thus, I would treat every market with a separate strategy and while
keeping the direct selling model as the core strategy I would capitalize on the local market s
requirements.
For example, in India if we focus on empowering the homemakers as business women from the
comforts of their home we can really work on the people s psyche.
Example 2: Secondly, I would revitalize and streamline the company s product lineup and make
product introductions more consistent with market and consumer needs. I would ensure to
introduce new products in every season to generate excitement and attract consumer attention.
To ensure growth I would look at some inorganic growth mechanisms such as mergers and
acquisitions. I would look to acquire local profit making beauty product companies in emerging
markets that would fit in with Avon s business synergies and help the company recreate its brand
and position in the world market.

The Pros And Cons Of Year-Round Schooling
They do not view YRE as a calendar configuration for space, achievement, or enrichment, but rather
as a part of the transformation toward a philosophy of long continuous learning. (Guthrie). One of
the main purposes of Year Round Schooling is to lower the break time between school sessions.
This causes children to have a better chance of retaining the knowledge that they learned from the

Dealing With Absence By Emily Bronte And Thomas Hardy
A lot of times in life you feel some presence of absence. Now what the absence is can vary
greatly. You can feel this missing element in a lot of things in life. It can be from a loved one all
the way to a hobby. Obviously when you feel the absence, you have to find some way to deal
with it. That is exactly what Emily Bronte and Thomas Hardy do in their poems. In Emily
Bronte s poem the speaker is dealing with the loss of a loved one. The speaker is trying to make
some decisions on what to do and her way is one way to look at things. In Thomas Hardy s first
poem he has another unique way of dealing with this absence. His isn t in the same way though
because it isn t about the same thing. Then in his second poem there is yet another take on
absence, it has a very harsh tone to it and is an extremely dark poem. Dealing with absence can be
approached in many different ways. In the poems Remembrance by Emily Bronte, The Darkling

Progressives Were Groups Of Reformers
Progressives were groups of reformers dedicated to improve the social and the political problems
in the United States during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. They live generally in the towns,
were well instructed professionals, and thought the government could be an instrument for the
transformation. They started a social movement that turned into a political movement.
Unfortunately, the remainder of the population was subject to law incomes, long working hours,
risky industrial tools, and unprincipled employers. Progressives believed the problems (poverty,
violence, greed, racism, class warfare) that the society faced could best be directed by offering
good education, a safe environment, and an efficient workplace. In the words of historian
Howard Zinn, the Progressives worked to stabilize the capitalist system by repairing its worst
defects. 2and restore some measure of class peace in a time of increasingly bitter clashes between
capital and labor (Zinn 354). The progressive tried to reform the United States; however, they were
incapable to make significant changes and improve the labors of the working class.
The social structure in America pushed people around because the opportunities were not equals.
The social in America was not favorable for the vast majority of tenant farmers, factory workers,
slum dwellers, miners, farm laborers, working men and women, black and white. Robert Wiebe
sees in the Progressive movement an attempt by the system to adjust to

MULTINATIONAL OIL COMPANIES IN NIGERIA. There are some applicable domestic laws and
international treaties in Nigeria for regulating the activities of multinational oil companies through
human rights enforcement and protection of the environment. 3.1 NATIONAL LAWS As
sovereign nation, Nigeria has power to enact laws relating to foreign investment and for human
right protection of her citizens. On the other hand Nigeria has signed several BITs for protection of
the foreign investor (including MNCs) but these BITs must be reconciled with need for the foreign
investors to recognise human right provisions in the Nigerian legal system. Section 17 of the 1999

It implies that pollution of the environment in the Niger Delta Area of Nigeria by the MNCs
coupled with other human right abuses is tantamount to deprivation of rights to life and human
dignity. Section 9(1)(b)(iii) of the Petroleum Act 1969 provides that the Minster of Petroleum
can make laws relating to prevention of pollution of water courses and the atmosphere . Further
provisions against pollution of the marine environment in the course of oil drilling is in
Regulation 25 of the Petroleum (Drilling and Production) Regulations 1969 made pursuant to
the Petroleum Act. However the law lacks defined standard to guard against pollution. The
requirements that the MNCs should carry out exploration of oil in proper and workmanlike
manner and with good oil field practice are vague and do not define any standard . The
Associated Gas Re injection Act 1979 which seeks to restrict and regulate flaring of associated
gas provides for period of time within which the oil companies would begin to re inject gas and
cease gas flaring, a major source of environmental pollution and health hazard. Section 3 of the
Act provides that gas flaring would cease by 1 January 1984 but by a proviso the Minister of
Petroleum could continue to permit oil companies to flare gas after the date. The current position is
that the Minister has permitted gas flaring overtime and deadline has been shifted severally without

future. Martin Cooper is known as one of the most innovated people that have changed the world
by his creation of the cell phone. The invention originated as a car phone, but Cooper believed a
phone should be wireless; making it one of the greatest dangerous weapons for killing people

Design for Riordan Manufacturing
Steve Wernick
Introduction Riordan Manufacturing is a global leader in plastics manufacturing who employees
hundreds of people. Riordan manufactures plastic bottles, medical stents, fans, heart valves, and
they custom order plastics. In maintaining their competitiveness, they utilize the Six Sigma
methodology and are focused on long term relationships with their customers as well as their
suppliers while achieving financial growth. In this paper, we will discuss the current state of
operations at Riordan and define the process for custom plastic pieces at their facility located in
Michigan. Finally, we will recommend some metrics that should provide improvements to their
process.

The supplies consist of ink, coloring dyes, solvent cleaners, lubricating oils, mold release agents,
and of course, electricity. They mention that they do not have the same supply chain problems that
other plants have.
Recommend appropriate metrics that would provide a basis for process improvement Metrics are
measurements that can be used to communicate values and priorities for the organization. Some of
the metrics that we are examining for Riordan manufacturing include process capability, total cycle
time, turnover rate, and review of their supply chain. Riordan uses the Six Sigma methodology as
part of the lean manufacturing process.
One recommendation is that Riordan should update their information systems to improve on
documentation of customer needs assessment. This will help to shape products and solutions that
will fit their customer needs. It also can help to improve communication within the supply chain
between participants as they are a global operation and perhaps cut costs in the area of carrier
costs. Implementation of the JIT can help manufacturers to purchase and receive supplies just
before they are needed. Thus it can reduce inventory storage costs for Riordan.
A second recommendation is that Riordan purchase new manufacturing equipment

Gender Aspects Of Gender
The way people look at gender has been changing over the past few years. Gender has always
been a social topic on what boys should do and what girls should do. Although, with the new
generation, I have seen people break the mold of gender stereotypes. Over the years, I have seen
many classmates and schools changing the status quo of gender. My generation has a different
opinion on gender stereotypes than my grandparents and even my parents. Gender stereotypes are
changing with each generation, whether it be through sports or the occupations people have.
My Grandparents went to high school in the mid 1950 s and women were not allowed to play many
sports back then. My Grandma told me that they thought the girls would get hurt. My
grandmother played basketball and they didn t let the girls cross the half court line. They had
three girls on each side so that they did not over exert themselves. Nowadays, girls can play
almost any sport they want. Hockey is a good example of how girls can play manlier sports.
When people think of hockey, they think of it more as a manlier sport, like football. There are
so many girls that play hockey with the same intensity as when men play. A good friend of mine,
who went to the same middle school as me, played on a travel hockey team. If you saw her, you
would never expect her to play hockey. She always wore dresses and has her hair done. She is not
your typical hockey playing girl. After seeing her play in a game, my impression of her changed.
She was very physical when going after other players with the puck. She would hit other players
into the glass now and then. She could handle other players hitting her pretty hard as well. She
got rocked by one player and just got back up on her skates and went back into the fray. Now, I
believe she is the toughest girl I know. She completely breaks the mold of the small, frail, girl
stereotype.
Another example of girls playing a manlier sport would be football. I went to an all boys catholic
high school, and right next door to us was our sister school. Every year, the seniors and juniors
would be allowed to compete in powder puff football. They would practice all summer and after
school in September for a month. Some of the guys from our

Evaluation And Verification Of Software Testing
Abstract:
Now a days in a commercial industry like IT, developing a software at an optimized cost is very
much necessary and that pressure is always there on each and every organization. And Software
testing forms integral part of any software life cycle. Hence, selecting the right tool for test
automation at the lowest cost possible is always important and very significant. In this project I
would like to work on comparing 2 popular functional test automation tools namely Quick Test Pro
which is a licensed tool and Selenium, an open and free source by considering various factors
other than cost which is only a price of tool. In longer run I assume even though QTP is a licensed
tool it provides more flexibility and can be useful in much ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

There are many existing tools like Quality Center which is licensed by HP. All the stages are
designed and implemented manually from requirement analysis, designing test plan, developing test
scenarios, writing test cases, executing the test cases, defect reporting etc. The problems with
manual testing are time consuming and non reusable and no scripting facility, manual effort
required and few errors are uncovered [1]. Manual Testing is preferred to review the application
requirements, and to create the High Level design Documents and Low level design Documents [3].
On the contrast, Software Automation means automatic software design. In software development
it is significant to liberate software engineers from doing same tedious work multiple times with the
assistance of tools. Automation testing approach makes use of various tools based on the testing
requirement of the Application under Test (AUT). In Automation testing tester runs the script on
the testing tool and testing is done. The tester may or may not know the inside details of the
software module under test [9]. Therefore white box testing or black box testing can be used.
White box testing is highly effective in detecting and resolving problems, because bugs can often
be found before they cause trouble [11]. White box testing is the process of giving the input to the
system and checking how the system processes the input and generated the required

Knee Injury Prevention and Conditioning Essay
Knee Injury Prevention and Conditioning An estimated 50 million Americans have suffered or
are suffering knee pain or injuries. Most of these pains, sprains, and strains could probably have
been avoided with proper conditioning (Fox, 147). I have had knee pain since my freshmen year
of high school and have finally taken the initiative to find some exercises that will help ease this
pain, and build musclestrength in the surrounding areas to avoid another possible injury. Getting
the support muscles of my legs in shape is one good way to lower the risk of kneeinjury. Therefore,
a good conditioning program is needed. Exercises are certainly one answer, but all too often people
consider exercise and activity as being synonymous.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Stretching must be part of the total regimen. Focusing on stretching the hamstring muscles very
well is a good way to help prevent knee injuries. In particular, increasing hamstring flexibility
takes some pressure off of the kneecap. Furthermore, the end of activity stretch has been shown to
virtually eliminate postexercise muscle problems. Strengthening exercises are very important in
preventing injury, especially to the knee. Most of the protection afforded the knee comes from
the powerful quadriceps muscles, the hamstrings, and the calf muscles. These muscles control the
movement of the knee. If they do not have proper tension, the control of the joint will be lost.
When these muscles are weak, the knee is not only unprotected, it has to assume a much greater
load and this can be painful. Strengthening will also increase endurance. When I suffer knee pain
midway through a busy day, I do two simple exercises: (1) Straight leg raises from a sitting
position; (2) while sitting with my leg straight out, I tighten my leg muscles for a slow five count,
then flex and repeat. See Appendix. Knee pain doesn t have to keep a person from climbing stairs,
or shopping with friends. Preliminary data suggested that when 30 people with osteoarthritis of the
knee, a common cause of pain, followed an at home strength training program, they averaged a 37%
reduction in pain and an 82% increase in strength of the affected leg. Strengthening the muscles

Marketing researchers work with probabilistic models of the form: y = f(x1)..(fx2)...f(xn)...
This reflects the fact that in order for a target market share to be reached some promotion (amount
unknown) is necessary but will not be sufficient, on its own, to achieve the target. Y is a function of
a number of variables and the interactions between them. The model is further complicated by the
fact that these interactions are themselves often not understood. It is for these reasons that
marketing researchers cannot guarantee that decisions based on their information will always prove
successful . Rather the best that a competent researcher and a well designed study will be able to
offer is a reduction in the amount of uncertainty surrounding the decision.
A definition of marketing research
Green and Tull1 have defined marketing research as follows:
Marketing research is the systematic and objective search for, and analysis of, information relevant
to the identification and solution of any problem in the field of marketing.
The key words in this definition are; systematic, objective and analysis. Marketing research seeks
to set about its task in a systematic and objective fashion. This means that a detailed and carefully
designed research plan is developed in which each stage of the research

Reformation Of Public Education In The Age Of Reform
One of the many changes in the Age of Reform was the reformation of public education. The first
schools were built for religious purposes, but during this reformation period, the reformers wanted
better schools to make sure that the future voters would be informed. Also, these schools would
help immigrants become part of the culture of American society. Massachusetts was the first state
to set up public schools, schools paid by taxes, and this was also the first state to have compulsory
education. This is where children had to go to schooluntil a certain age. Reformers like Horace
Mann changed many aspects to the schools in Massachusetts. He created colleges to train teachers,
raised the salaries of the teachers, and he lengthened the school

What Is The Role Of Segregation In African American Society
After slavery got abolished people that were white had opinions of free and voting African
Americans. Few accepted them as equal and free. Although some white Americans welcomed them,
others used people s ignorance, racism, and self interest to sustain and spread racial divisions.
Hence the African Americans were treated as a second citizen and kept to a lower level. The
Southern States where most black African Americans lived started enacting literally tests, tax polls,
elaborate registration systems, and all white democratic parties to exclude black voters.1 America at

Essay Breast Feeding Is Best
Breast Feeding Is Best Breast feeding not only provides the perfect food and food delivery system
for infants, it is also the most family friendly choice a new mother can make.
Human breast milk contains at least one hundred ingredients not found in cow s milk and that
cannot be exactly duplicated in commercial formulas (Eisenburg 3). As a baby grows and changes,
breast milk automatically individualizes itself for each infant. The nutrients in breast milk alter
themselves to fit the baby s needs. Breast milk is more easily digested than cow s milk or formula.
The amount of protein in mother s milk (1.5%) is lower than in cow s milk (3.5%) (Brockport 1),
making it gentler on the infant s stomach. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Breast milk contains one third the mineral salts of cow s milk, thus making it gentle to the
kidneys. There is less phosphorous in breast milk as well. The higher phosphorus content of cow
s milk is linked to a decreased calcium level in the formula fed infant s blood. Breast fed babies
are far less likely to become ill during the first year than formula fed babies. The transfer of
immune factors in breast milk and in the pre milk substance, colostrum, provides partial
protection. Every time breast fed infants suckle at their mother s breast from the first time to the
last; they are getting a healthy dose of anti bodies to bolster their immunity to disease (Eisenburg
54). One recent study suggest there may also be a decreased risk of childhood cancer in breast fed
babies (Eisenburg 55 ).
Breast fed babies are well nourished since breast feeding works by supply and demand. The
more the baby nurses the greater the mother s milk production. Overall, babies that are breast fed
have less health problems than babies that are artificially fed. They have three times fewer ear
infections, five times fewer urinary tract infections, five times fewer serious illnesses and seven
times fewer allergies. Babies who are fed mother s milk exclusively, for at least their first twenty
six weeks, are six times less likely to develop lymphoma (a type of cancer) in childhood, and babies
breast fed for at least one year are only half as likely to develop diabetes

The History And Political Causes Of The Cold War
The Cold War refers to an era of U.S. history from roughly 1945 to 1990. Although the U.S.S.R.
and the U.S. fought ideological proxy wars in Vietnam, Korea, and Afghanistan, this era is referred
to as the Cold War because the United States and Soviet Union never actually engaged in war
themselves. The origins of the Cold Warcan be traced back to the finale of World War II. Beginning
with the Yalta Conference, the Allied powers of the Soviet Union, United States, and Great Britain
started a discussion concerning post war foreign policies. Specifically, the political system of
Poland became an important question for the Big Three . Should Poland be allowed to form a
democratically elected government, or should Russia be allowed to occupy Poland and further
expand their communist influence? Essentially, this question and many like it characterized the
motivation for the Cold War. The United States sought to contain communism while the Soviet
Union pushed for both land expansion and political influence across the globe. (CITE) Harry
Truman took the office of President just a few months before the end of World War II. Truman
inherited a plethora of dilemmas heading into the post War World II era, and he decided to take his
stance on international affairs in 1947 with the Truman Doctrine. Essentially, the Truman Doctrine
promised that America would personally intervene in order to insure that democracy would remain
secure in foreign governments. This was a stark contrast from the popular isolationist paradigm of
the 20s and 30s. Furthermore, the Truman Doctrine prompted an unusual act of international
involvement when Congress agreed to aid Greek and Turkish militaries in an effort to counter
communist influence in these regions. Additionally, Truman s handling of the Korean War is
another example of his firm stance of containment. Truman made no qualms about aiding the
indigenous troops of South Korea with weapons and troops, but he did openly reject the notion of
meeting either China or the Soviet Union in an open land battle. Furthermore, Truman fired
General Douglas MacArthur based on the general s strong notion to invade China and reluctance to
respect the President s authority. Truman s decisions

For example, the tennis and volleyball courts, the fountain, the space of the children from day

by explaining her point of view, she makes the reader feel like she is in heaven because this

customer questions and creating reports. Her routine is evaluated and reorganized after each
contact, and her score can rise or fall for all to see. On the first day her score was the highest.
Quickly, she becomes a winner in The Circle. This proves that when people have determination,
anything can be possible. In the same way, sometimes people have problems, and that they can

demonstrate how easy it is to be sucked into a world of success, where even though she is

Strong. Ricard start his presentation with Carbon in soil, while Julia was focused on contamination
in soil, finally Craig discussed about dust observation in Australia.
The first presenter talk about carbon sequestration and the capturing carbon using trees and how the
Carbon concentration decreased from soils. He also explained about how carbon credit works for
Australian farmers. Further, the Soil Carbon Matrix Method (Keith, H., et al, ND) was explained in

The reason why dust should be trace because agricultural dust could be seen as indicators for soil
quality and wind erosion in Australia is major threat for soil asset. Further, the pace of soil eroding
is faster than its forming pace. The method on dust monitoring in Australia is Dust Watch with
community based science (DW CBS). This method is affiliation program from community, scientist
and government.
The lesson that I get from this topic is soil management could work if we have basic data on soil
quality and it could help traditional farmers to manage their land. In my hometown, agriculture was
manage traditionally and the farmers not using fertilizer because the soil is fertile and they used
ancient techniques to manage their land. However, if we can combine the traditional way and
modern technique such as soil carbon matrix method it could help to increase the quality of soil and
will help the farmers to increase their agriculture products.

John Deere Organizational Structure
John Deere organizational structure is methodical and unified. The above chart does not totally
focus on the lengths of the structure but these are the heads of each division. John Deere has a
total of 8 divisions which are agricultural, constructions, turf, forestry, financial services, power
systems, parts services, and intelligent solutions. Each division has the ability to concentrate on
their specific needs and develop the next best thing for John Deere. The perfect example is if the
agricultural team could develop their tractors to either widen or shrink the space between the
wheels by pushing a button. It allows the farmers to adapt to the situation and not have to find a
way to get around a certain row. Even though it could be fairly expensive to hire a personal of the

Summary Of Sweat By Zora Neale Hurston
The short story Sweat by Zora Neale Hurston, is an empowering tale about an honest,
hardworking woman who stood her ground and persevered in spite of her stressful living
conditions. Hurston uses elaborate detail to paint a picture of a humble, Delia Jones, who
endured emotional and physical abuse, as well as intimidation and eventually redemption at the
hands of her husband Sykes Jones. Fear is a powerful emotion and can be used to either cripple us
or empower us, and Delia chose to rise above her fear. Sweat is the perfect title for this story as it is
simple yet telling; to the hard working womanthat was Delia Jones.
Abuse in any form is wrong and is usually meted out by insecure and unstable people.

The Importance Of Decision Making In Public Administration
Decision making is very vital in the study of administration. Decision making is the act of deciding
the best choice or alternative that brings success or advantage to a situation that will ensure
maximum benefits and least risk. Probability can be applied to decision making in public
administration because it is possible to estimate the probabilityof occurrence of specific events. A
part of decision making in relationship to public administration has to do with goals. The
probability of you meeting those goals depends on decision making. For example a restaurant
owner has received more revenue on Thursdays than on any other day And less Revenue on
Saturdays than any other day. The owner has looked at everything that could have influenced his
sales. The owner realized that the only things that were different on Thursdays than any other day
was the chief special and the drink special. According to the receipts of the last four Thursdays the
probability that a customer orders a drink special is 60%. The probability that a customer orders
the chief special is 50%. The probability of them ordering both is 42%. This shows the restaurant
owner that Thursdays drink special should be considered on both Thursdays and Saturdays.
Effective decision making is very important on how probability can be applied therefore effective
decision making must be rational. As mentioned before, people who are deciding rationally are
attempting to reach goals in a systematic way. They make sure

Factors Affecting The National Transportation Safety Board...
The captain and 10 passengers were killed; the first officer, the flight attendants, and 105
passengers received serious of minor injuries; and 24 passengers were not injured. The airplane
was destroyed by impact forces and a post crash fire. Flight 1420 was operating under the
provisions of 14 Code of Federal Regulations (CRF) Part 121 on an instrument flight rules (IFR)
flight plan. Contributing Casual Factors There are several causal factors that led to this event. The
National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) determined that the probable causes of this accident
were the flight crew s failure to discontinue the approach when severe thunderstorms and their
associated hazards to flight operations had moved in the airport area, and the crew s failure to
ensure that the spoilers had extended after touchdown. Contributing factors of the flight crews
determination to land in the inclement weather are: (1) impaired performance resulting from
miscommunication associated with the intent to land under the circumstances, (2) continuation of
the approach to a landing when the company s maximum crosswind component was exceeded, (3)
failure of the spoilers to deploy, and (4) use of reverse thrust greater than 1.3 engine pressure ratio
after landing. (NTSB, 2001). Weather Weather observation at Little Rock National Airport are

Comparison Between Boccaccio s The Decameron
In the community that Giovanni Boccaccio s The Decameron is set in, females are held at a lower
social ranking than males. As with most communities up till relatively recently in the past, women
were not permitted to have a significant role in the community, other than that of a wife and
matriarch. In The Decameron, Boccaccio shows that while they may not have notable social
ranking, females do have an advantage in most aspects of the malefemalerelationship. Even though
the tales deal with a range of subjects, when Boccaccio makes a comparison between men and
women, it is apparent that he advocates women as the superior sexin terms of both right and wrong.
When studying tales where Boccaccio features male female relationships, it appears that females
are dominant, more licentious, and more guileful. Moreover, on the occasions where the male
character attains victory or outshines the female, the male typically reach success through
deceitful means. For the most part, it is fair to say that Boccaccio does depict women as
surpassing men in many aspectsв€’some favorable, and some in the negative. Boccaccio describes
women in The Decameron as being more robust than men. While this trait is not as common in all
of the tales, Boccaccio does exemplify that women endure more hardship than males do. This
escalated endurance for hardship may stem from a fundamental lack of choices: if females are
facing some adversity, they usually do not have the capacity to get rid of their

Legal Services Act 2007 And The Impact
Introduction This paper aims to explore the Legal Services Act 2007 and the impact the Act has
had on the role of a Costs Lawyer since implementation. Findings The starting point for this topic
has to be to consider the original Legislation and the rights provided within the same. The Courts
and Legal Services Act 1990 only allowed qualified and regulated Solicitors and Barristers the
rights of audience before a Court in proceedings to which the individual was not a party to. The
Access t Justice Act 1999 made it possible for other professional groups beyond Solicitors and
Barristers to grant rights to their members. A number of bodies took advantage of this including
the Association of Law Costs Draftsman. The Legal Services Act 2007 replaced the Courts and
Legal Services Act 1990 on 1 January 2010 and was implemented to liberalise and regulate the
market for legal services in England and Wales. The Act has encouraged more competition and
provided a new route for consumer complaints. The Act was introduced in November 2006 by
Lord Falconer Secretary of State for Constitutional Affairs and received Royal Assent on 30
October 2007. Since implementation the Act has simplified and improved the regulation of legal
service provision in England and Wales and has created a framework for legal services to be
provided. The regulatory objectives and professional principles are set out in section 1 of the Act.
The Act allows lawyers and non lawyers to form businesses

The Chosen Ones By Pablo Neruda Analysis
Resuscitation Pablo Neruda s poem The Chosen Ones is a perfect incorporation of torment and
influence, acting to sadden as well as impact the reader to influence further action against
intolerance. Neruda uses allusion when referencing the years of events of significant suffering
that are important in Cuban and world history, recalling his own first hand experiences himself,
and the significance of understanding these dates and events. Neruda uses a tone that is
volatile, characterized by an increase in imagery, especially of death and violence, as the piece
goes on. Neruda uses a couplet at the end to shift the poem from lengthy description of violence
and death, to a sardonic reference of those who were killed, operating as a call to action. This
poem uses allusion, tone, and personification to exemplify violence as a result of prejudice and
their legacy forgotten. Neruda s use of historical allusion is significant as several dates
mentioned are specificexamples of genocide, especially as a result of hatred towards complex
institutions of race, nationality, and religion. In this piece Neruda references several dates:
1925, 1926, 1933, 1940, 1918, 1905, and thousands of nineteen hundreds (Neruda,1). Each date
representative of a significantly negative event in world history; However several dates also
coincide with important years in Cuban history. For example, in the year 1925, Gerardo
Machado was elected Cuba s president, he would resist the rise of a healthy labor movement,
which he would enforce using deportation and police brutality. Cuba s economic downfall would
lead to uprisings in the future, all ultimately having Cuban legislature and law enforcement being
taken advantage of, while at the same time several mass killings world arise before crimes against
humanity would be identified and prosecuted at the International Military Tribunal in Nuremberg.
Neruda s first hand experiences with oppression and fascism growing up in Cuba allowed many
to learn from the Chilean because he offered a way of identifying with the masses and engaging
the problems of society (Pettingell, 3). Neruda s use of allusion allows the hatred from these mass
killings to be tied in with the selfishness and extortion of

Summary Of The Poisonwood Bible
Barbara Kingsolver s, The Poisonwood Bible, is a story about the lives of the Price Family
women and how a year of missionary work while living in the Congo forever changed their lives.
A very important aspect of the plot in The Poisonwood Bible is that the husband of the Price
family, Nathan, is the entire reason for the story. His unyielding desire to become a missionary
and carry out what he believed to be God s work is what led to the families living in the Congo
and destroying the bonds the Prices had with each other. Throughout the story Nathan Price is
presented as an arrogant southern Baptist preacher with a twisted sense of his place in the
world. Having no regard for women as anything but housewives with little intelligence, he is
depicted as an abusive husband and father. Nathan Price is described as being a changed man
from his younger days. Fighting in WWII had changed him for life. In Contrast to this there is
Brother Fowles, a foil to Nathan Price, who is a missionary that lived in Kilanga before the Price
family came. He married an African woman and had stayed behind after warned to leave the
Congo. His interpretations of the Bible and world perspective are more loosely guided than Nathan
Prices. Brother Fowles is overall more liked than Nathan Price throughout the story.... Show more

Nathan Price believes that it is his duty to move his family to the Congo and complete God s
plan for him as a missionary to help the people find salvation. This idea doesn t seem entirely out
of place after we see Brother Fowles illustrate his cultural and moral interpretations of Bible
scripture. However it is not seen until the end of the book, Nathan Price s need to please God
does not lie with the people of the Congo, but for himself. The more Nathan Price tries to relay his
own way to God, the father detached he becomes from the Congolese people and his

A Brief Note On The Conservation Of Ruins
CONSERVATION OF RUINS A heritage ruin is defined as a disused and incomplete place comes in
all shapes and sizes, that through abandonment, redundancy or condition, usually no longer
maintained and unlikely to serves its original function or purpose other than interpretation
(Australian Heritage Council, 2013). Rizzi, added the definition of ruin from architectural point of
view: A building which having lost a substantial part of its architectural form has ceased to function
as such. Elementary, but full of implications: a building that has lost its natural defences (roof,
windows, plasters, etc), unarmed against the ravages of atmospheric agents and consequently more
vulnerable to the destructive effect of time; A building that has stopped to fulfill its functions, to
shelter human activities and which, in a sense, has begun its journey towards progressive decline
and final disappearance . (Rizzi 2007, p.xx). Although the term ruins implies the abandoned
condition of the building materials, this condition does not resemble the loss of heritage values
embedded to it (Australian Heritage Council, 2013). For this reason, it is obvious that heritage ruins
are equally as important as any other historic building survived. It is the evidence of past human
activity; a shared resources that retain important heritage values, and potentially possess tangible
and intangible heritage attributes (Drury and McPherson 2008, Australian Heritage Council 2013).

  • 2. Scottish Archaeology Essay Scotland has an abundance of archaeology all throughout the country and all within different parts of prehistory. Scottish archaeology has a big impact on both the rest of the UK and on the rest of Europe. Although during the beginning of the 20th century, archaeology was seen as nothing more than labour, with the help of the two great men which held the Abercromby chair both with their own contributions to Scottish archaeology as a whole it soon rocketed into the discipline what we see today. It s important to note that during the beginnings of the 20th century, Scotland s archaeology wasn t as advanced as it is today and a simple but effective way that the honourable John Abercromby sought to overcome this was by putting a chair in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As he believed that archaeology should become a science and the first step to do this was to establish a systematic and significant classification for its materials (Patterson and Orser, 2004:25). However he didn t just classify these objects, he was able to think about how everything was connected, it s explained that he was no longer content with merely describing and classifying the objects he uncovered; he must ascertain how they were made and whence the materials for their manufacture came (Ibid, 36). He managed to link what he had found and connected it not only with the other artefacts that he had found but also the rest of the landscape, by simply linking everything together he had managed to gain a bigger picture of Scotland, he also managed to connect the prehistory of Scotland to the prehistory of Europe by comparing artefacts and seeing the relationships between the two (Sherrat, 1989:151). An effective way that he could show off the information that he had found was by writing books not just for the educated upper class but also the middle class, and in many publications he presented a synthesis of knowledge covering a vast and complex field in an authoritative and unique manner (The Editors of Encyclopaedia Britannica, 2015). Whilst he was digging at Skara Brae, visitors were not uncommon, it let them see first hand what was happening and it allowed for more people ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. Ethnic Conflict in the United States Ethnic Conflict in the United States The United States is considered a melting pot because of the vast array of different cultures, ethnicities, and religious groups who all live within its borders. Other countries with fewer cultural differences have been torn apart by the conflicts that arise between these differing groups. It is believed by some that the United States has been able to avoid such ethical conflicts as have brought down other nations but looking at American history it is evident that this is not true. America s history is one of ethnic conflict because of religion, nationalistic, and particularly ethnic differences. The two centuries that the United States has existed has been a history of racial marginalization particularly against African Americans which culminated with the Civil Rights Movement of the 1950s and 1960s. In the present, the United States likes to claim that as a nation, we are color blind but evidence exists to the contrary. The Klu Klux Klan (KKK) still exists, hate crimes are committed based on ethnicity, and stereotypes are perpetuated in order to minimize and ostracize. Despite these instances, the country has held strong largely because although these instances occur, they are not approved of by the government or those involved in criminal justice. The United States is made up of peoples from all over the world but that does not mean we have not had to deal with ethnic conflict. The most obvious has been the history of ... • 5. The Pros And Cons Of The Military Service Although many people are familiar with the heroic conscientious objector, World War II American Army Medic Desmond T. Doss, very few people are familiar with the names of recent conscientious objectors. In fact, in an all volunteer force that exists in the United States military today, some would be shocked to learn that about 60 members of the military still apply for to be a conscientious objectoreach year. While numerous military members and United States civilians agree that it is outrageous for a volunteer to the military to decide they cannot fight in a war they enlisted to participate in, this does not fully encapsulate the issue at hand. The Military Service is incentivized, offering a career, education, and life long benefits; thus, some will volunteer for Military Service without deeply considering the ethics of service and their personal convictions; moreover, the nature of war causes man to struggle with the morality after deployment, resulting in a conviction arriving late into one s career. Therefore, when faced with unresolved conflict of conscience, it is necessary for a military member to examine their moral beliefs in order to make an ethical decision regarding whether to continue military participation. When enlisting into any branch of the United States Armed Forces, there is plenty of documentation to accompany it. In addition to the personal history, medical investigations, and physical readiness testing, there are specific questions to ensure each ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. The Stranger Absurdism The Stranger focuses on the character of Meursault, a man whose perspective cannot be understood by those around him. His neutral character is created by Albert Camus to reveal many themes and paradoxes within the text. The title itself has its own significant meaning, and the characters and themes within the text can reveal its meaning to the novel. The title The Strangerreveals Meursault s strange character stemming from absurdismafter being isolated from everyone, as well the stranger within those who judge him throughout the novel. Meursault acts apart from everyone else in The Stranger, making him strange and different from everyone else. This connects to the theme of isolation and how Meursault deals with it. His separation from society, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although Meursault begins to have realizations of his actions and his own self, he is still being judged by everyone as a stranger according to his actions in Part 1, a man who had no reasoning or explanation behind anything he did. The reason Meursault shot the arab multiple times does not exist, he had no reason to shoot him, but he just did. This once again shows absurdism, because there is no explanation for his actions, and this disturbs the jury even more, and they harshly judge him. Meursault is not the only stranger though. As he was seen as a stranger by those who were judging him in Part 2, he saw those same people as strangers too. In Chapter three, Meursault was under a ton of pressure in the court sessions, and as everyone was staring at him, he could not recognize a single face. Everyone was a stranger to him, and With the crowd and stuffiness of the air ... was feeling a bit dizzy (Camus 52). As Meursault was unable to recognize anyone, he became uncomfortable. It is also important to recognize that in Part 2, Meursault does not name anyone, unlike Part 1. He only names people by their role, such as magistrate or prosecutor. He is once again isolated from everyone in Part 2, and they are all strangers to him as he is being judged for his murder. Absurdism and isolation show their role in making Meursault, as ... The Holocaust was period time where 6 million European Jews, as well as gypsies and homosexuals were killed by the German Nazi regime. The Nazi s became of power in the month of January 1933. This mechanism allows for vasodilation, decreased blood volume, and the suppression aldosterone: allowing for decreased blood pressure and a slight decrease in edema. While the suppression of kinase can cause an accumulation of bradykinin in the lungs, causing a cough, ACEIs are considered the number one go to drug for hypertension and heart failure. ARBS, working in much the same way as ACEIs, block angiotensin II receptor sites. This allows for kinase to work again bradykinin, and does not produce the adverse cough. Diuretics are a must in most hypertensive patients because they decrease edema, lower blood volume, and decrease the workload of the heart. Progressives Were Groups Of Reformers Progressives were groups of reformers dedicated to improve the social and the political problems in the United States during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. They started a social movement that turned into a political movement. Unfortunately, the remainder of the population was subject to law incomes, long working hours, risky industrial tools, and unprincipled employers. Progressives believed the problems (poverty, violence, greed, racism, class warfare) that the society faced could best be directed by offering good education, a safe environment, and an efficient workplace. Although, with the new generation, I have seen people break the mold of gender stereotypes. Over the years, I have seen many classmates and schools changing the status quo of gender. My generation has a different opinion on gender stereotypes than my grandparents and even my parents. Gender stereotypes are changing with each generation, whether it be through sports or the occupations people have. My Grandparents went to high school in the mid 1950 s and women were not allowed to play many sports back then. My Grandma told me that they thought the girls would get hurt. My grandmother played basketball and they didn t let the girls cross the half court line. They had three girls on each side so that they did not over exert themselves. Nowadays, girls can play almost any sport they want. Hockey is a good example of how girls can play manlier sports. When people think of hockey, they think of it more as a manlier sport, like football. There are so many girls that play hockey with the same intensity as when men play. A good friend of mine, who went to the same middle school as me, played on a travel hockey team. If you saw her, you would never expect her to play hockey. She always wore dresses and has her hair done. She is not your typical hockey playing girl. After seeing her play in a game, my impression of her changed. She was very physical when going after other players with the puck. She would hit other players into the glass now and then. She could handle other players hitting her pretty hard as well. She got rocked by one player and just got back up on her skates and went back into the fray. Now, I believe she is the toughest girl I know. She completely breaks the mold of the small, frail, girl stereotype. Another example of girls playing a manlier sport would be football. Stretching must be part of the total regimen. Focusing on stretching the hamstring muscles very well is a good way to help prevent knee injuries. In particular, increasing hamstring flexibility takes some pressure off of the kneecap. Furthermore, the end of activity stretch has been shown to virtually eliminate postexercise muscle problems. Strengthening exercises are very important in preventing injury, especially to the knee. Most of the protection afforded the knee comes from the powerful quadriceps muscles, the hamstrings, and the calf muscles. These muscles control the movement of the knee. If they do not have proper tension, the control of the joint will be lost. When these muscles are weak, the knee is not only unprotected, it has to assume a much greater load and this can be painful. Strengthening will also increase endurance. When I suffer knee pain midway through a busy day, I do two simple exercises: (1) Straight leg raises from a sitting position; (2) while sitting with my leg straight out, I tighten my leg muscles for a slow five count, then flex and repeat. See Appendix. Knee pain doesn t have to keep a person from climbing stairs, or shopping with friends. Few accepted them as equal and free. Although some white Americans welcomed them, others used people s ignorance, racism, and self interest to sustain and spread racial divisions. Hence the African Americans were treated as a second citizen and kept to a lower level. The Southern States where most black African Americans lived started enacting literally tests, tax polls, elaborate registration systems, and all white democratic parties to exclude black voters.1 America at this moment , said the former British Prime Minister Winston Churchill in 1945, stands at the summit of the world. • 32. Essay Breast Feeding Is Best Breast Feeding Is Best Breast feeding not only provides the perfect food and food delivery system for infants, it is also the most family friendly choice a new mother can make. Human breast milk contains at least one hundred ingredients not found in cow s milk and that cannot be exactly duplicated in commercial formulas (Eisenburg 3). As a baby grows and changes, breast milk automatically individualizes itself for each infant. The nutrients in breast milk alter themselves to fit the baby s needs. Breast milk is more easily digested than cow s milk or formula. The amount of protein in mother s milk (1.5%) is lower than in cow s milk (3.5%) (Brockport 1), making it gentler on the infant s stomach. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Breast milk contains one third the mineral salts of cow s milk, thus making it gentle to the kidneys. There is less phosphorous in breast milk as well. The higher phosphorus content of cow s milk is linked to a decreased calcium level in the formula fed infant s blood. Breast fed babies are far less likely to become ill during the first year than formula fed babies. The transfer of immune factors in breast milk and in the pre milk substance, colostrum, provides partial protection. Every time breast fed infants suckle at their mother s breast from the first time to the last; they are getting a healthy dose of anti bodies to bolster their immunity to disease (Eisenburg 54). One recent study suggest there may also be a decreased risk of childhood cancer in breast fed babies (Eisenburg 55 ). Breast fed babies are well nourished since breast feeding works by supply and demand. The more the baby nurses the greater the mother s milk production. Overall, babies that are breast fed have less health problems than babies that are artificially fed. They have three times fewer ear infections, five times fewer urinary tract infections, five times fewer serious illnesses and seven times fewer allergies. Babies who are fed mother s milk exclusively, for at least their first twenty six weeks, are six times less likely to develop lymphoma (a type of cancer) in childhood, and babies breast fed for at least one year are only half as likely to develop diabetes ... • 33. The History And Political Causes Of The Cold War The Cold War refers to an era of U.S. history from roughly 1945 to 1990. Although the U.S.S.R. and the U.S. fought ideological proxy wars in Vietnam, Korea, and Afghanistan, this era is referred to as the Cold War because the United States and Soviet Union never actually engaged in war themselves. The origins of the Cold Warcan be traced back to the finale of World War II. Beginning with the Yalta Conference, the Allied powers of the Soviet Union, United States, and Great Britain started a discussion concerning post war foreign policies. Specifically, the political system of Poland became an important question for the Big Three . Should Poland be allowed to form a democratically elected government, or should Russia be allowed to occupy Poland and further expand their communist influence? Essentially, this question and many like it characterized the motivation for the Cold War. The United States sought to contain communism while the Soviet Union pushed for both land expansion and political influence across the globe. (CITE) Harry Truman took the office of President just a few months before the end of World War II. Truman inherited a plethora of dilemmas heading into the post War World II era, and he decided to take his stance on international affairs in 1947 with the Truman Doctrine. Essentially, the Truman Doctrine promised that America would personally intervene in order to insure that democracy would remain secure in foreign governments. This was a stark contrast from the popular isolationist paradigm of the 20s and 30s. Furthermore, the Truman Doctrine prompted an unusual act of international involvement when Congress agreed to aid Greek and Turkish militaries in an effort to counter communist influence in these regions. Additionally, Truman s handling of the Korean War is another example of his firm stance of containment. Truman made no qualms about aiding the indigenous troops of South Korea with weapons and troops, but he did openly reject the notion of meeting either China or the Soviet Union in an open land battle. Furthermore, Truman fired General Douglas MacArthur based on the general s strong notion to invade China and reluctance to respect the President s authority. Truman s decisions ... • 44. The Importance Of Decision Making In Public Administration Decision making is very vital in the study of administration. Decision making is the act of deciding the best choice or alternative that brings success or advantage to a situation that will ensure maximum benefits and least risk. Probability can be applied to decision making in public administration because it is possible to estimate the probabilityof occurrence of specific events. A part of decision making in relationship to public administration has to do with goals. The probability of you meeting those goals depends on decision making. For example a restaurant owner has received more revenue on Thursdays than on any other day And less Revenue on Saturdays than any other day. The owner has looked at everything that could have influenced his sales. The owner realized that the only things that were different on Thursdays than any other day was the chief special and the drink special. According to the receipts of the last four Thursdays the probability that a customer orders a drink special is 60%. The probability that a customer orders the chief special is 50%. The probability of them ordering both is 42%. This shows the restaurant owner that Thursdays drink special should be considered on both Thursdays and Saturdays. Effective decision making is very important on how probability can be applied therefore effective decision making must be rational. The airplane was destroyed by impact forces and a post crash fire. Flight 1420 was operating under the provisions of 14 Code of Federal Regulations (CRF) Part 121 on an instrument flight rules (IFR) flight plan. Contributing Casual Factors There are several causal factors that led to this event. The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) determined that the probable causes of this accident were the flight crew s failure to discontinue the approach when severe thunderstorms and their associated hazards to flight operations had moved in the airport area, and the crew s failure to ensure that the spoilers had extended after touchdown. Contributing factors of the flight crews determination to land in the inclement weather are: (1) impaired performance resulting from miscommunication associated with the intent to land under the circumstances, (2) continuation of the approach to a landing when the company s maximum crosswind component was exceeded, (3) failure of the spoilers to deploy, and (4) use of reverse thrust greater than 1.3 engine pressure ratio after landing. • 47. Comparison Between Boccaccio s The Decameron In the community that Giovanni Boccaccio s The Decameron is set in, females are held at a lower social ranking than males. As with most communities up till relatively recently in the past, women were not permitted to have a significant role in the community, other than that of a wife and matriarch. In The Decameron, Boccaccio shows that while they may not have notable social ranking, females do have an advantage in most aspects of the malefemalerelationship. Even though the tales deal with a range of subjects, when Boccaccio makes a comparison between men and women, it is apparent that he advocates women as the superior sexin terms of both right and wrong. When studying tales where Boccaccio features male female relationships, it appears that females are dominant, more licentious, and more guileful. Moreover, on the occasions where the male character attains victory or outshines the female, the male typically reach success through deceitful means. For the most part, it is fair to say that Boccaccio does depict women as surpassing men in many aspectsв€’some favorable, and some in the negative. Boccaccio describes women in The Decameron as being more robust than men. While this trait is not as common in all of the tales, Boccaccio does exemplify that women endure more hardship than males do. This escalated endurance for hardship may stem from a fundamental lack of choices: if females are facing some adversity, they usually do not have the capacity to get rid of their ... • 49. The Chosen Ones By Pablo Neruda Analysis Resuscitation Pablo Neruda s poem The Chosen Ones is a perfect incorporation of torment and influence, acting to sadden as well as impact the reader to influence further action against intolerance. Neruda uses allusion when referencing the years of events of significant suffering that are important in Cuban and world history, recalling his own first hand experiences himself, and the significance of understanding these dates and events. Neruda uses a tone that is volatile, characterized by an increase in imagery, especially of death and violence, as the piece goes on. Neruda uses a couplet at the end to shift the poem from lengthy description of violence and death, to a sardonic reference of those who were killed, operating as a call to action. This poem uses allusion, tone, and personification to exemplify violence as a result of prejudice and their legacy forgotten. Neruda s use of historical allusion is significant as several dates mentioned are specificexamples of genocide, especially as a result of hatred towards complex institutions of race, nationality, and religion. In this piece Neruda references several dates: 1925, 1926, 1933, 1940, 1918, 1905, and thousands of nineteen hundreds (Neruda,1). Each date representative of a significantly negative event in world history; However several dates also coincide with important years in Cuban history. For example, in the year 1925, Gerardo Machado was elected Cuba s president, he would resist the rise of a healthy labor movement, which he would enforce using deportation and police brutality. Cuba s economic downfall would lead to uprisings in the future, all ultimately having Cuban legislature and law enforcement being taken advantage of, while at the same time several mass killings world arise before crimes against humanity would be identified and prosecuted at the International Military Tribunal in Nuremberg. Neruda s first hand experiences with oppression and fascism growing up in Cuba allowed many to learn from the Chilean because he offered a way of identifying with the masses and engaging the problems of society (Pettingell, 3). • 50. Summary Of The Poisonwood Bible Barbara Kingsolver s, The Poisonwood Bible, is a story about the lives of the Price Family women and how a year of missionary work while living in the Congo forever changed their lives. A very important aspect of the plot in The Poisonwood Bible is that the husband of the Price family, Nathan, is the entire reason for the story. His unyielding desire to become a missionary and carry out what he believed to be God s work is what led to the families living in the Congo and destroying the bonds the Prices had with each other. Throughout the story Nathan Price is presented as an arrogant southern Baptist preacher with a twisted sense of his place in the world. Having no regard for women as anything but housewives with little intelligence, he is depicted as an abusive husband and father. Nathan Price is described as being a changed man from his younger days. Fighting in WWII had changed him for life.
