Monitoring Of Internal And External Environments Essay
SCANNING AND MONITORING OF INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL ENVIRONMENTS IN
FIRMS
ACCESS BANK NIGERIAA CASE IN POINT
Abstract
The term the world is a global village particularly holds water as activities in various sectors are inter
woven. Firms can no longer ignore the environment in which they operate. Environmental analysis is
an important part of business processes. It is a tool which executives must take seriously to keep their
competitive edge. How and why businesses carry out environmental analysis are issues to be
discussed in this paper. The paper concludes with a practical example of Internal and External
Environmental analysis of an existing bank Access Bank Nigeria.
Introduction
In 2006, a Non Governmental Organisation (NGO) based in India, Centre for Science and
Environment (CSE), issued a statement that pesticides found in Pepsi Cola was far above the
allowable health limits. As a result, people started avoiding the soft drinks and opted for healthier,
organic option. Pepsi Cola engaged in a wide range of public awareness campaign and issued press
statements to convince the public that the drink is perfectly safe. The pesticide Saga adversely affected
sales of Pepsi in India. (CITE)
From the example above, Pepsi Cola had to engage in a wide range of publicity campaign due to the
action of one body, CSE. It is therefore clear that the success of a business does not solely depend on
how well their internal processes are or how good the product is. External forces also

Physician-Patient Relationship Paper
From this weeks, I have enjoyed readings from Dr. Toombs thesis. The physician patient relationship
has been extremely important in the healthcare industry. Rather than representing a shared reality
between the patient and the physician, illness often represents two different realities. The first is that
there is a meaning of one being significantly quantitative different from the other. It is critical to
realize that in order for a person to be treated in the right way, there is a need for one to have good
communication between the doctor and the patient.
The doctor and the patient have two different perspectives regarding illness. They each have their own
world and they look at it in their own way. In fact, the different perspectives often

How Did Henry Ford Impact The World
Henry Ford was born July 30, 1863 in Greenfield, Michigan. He is most famous for manufacturing the
Ford Model T, the first production car ever made. At a young age, Ford demonstrated his mechanical
ability, facility for leadership and learning by trial and error, ultimately developing the foundation for
his career.
Henry Ford learned about steam engines by becoming friends with people who ran them and
eventually, in 1879 he left the farm to become an apprentice at the Michigan car company, a Detroit
based railroad car manufacturer. In 1888, Ford married Clara Jane Bryant and had one child named
Edsel. Ford supported himself by farming and running a sawmill.
Although Henry Ford did not invent the automobile itself, instead he contributed ... Show more

Therefore, in 1910 the company, along with Ford moved to a bigger plant in Highland, Michigan,
north of Detroit. In 1913, Henry Ford and his company were producing one thousand Model Ts a day
and by 1922, half the cars in America were Model Ts. A brand new two passenger Model T in 1922
would sell for 269 U.S. dollars.
Henry Ford s creation of the Model T profited from his ideas and made a huge impact on the world.
One of them being WWII and the Allies victory. Henry Ford s company aided the victory by
developing airplane engines, tanks and other Ford vehicles.
Another big impact Henry Ford made has to do with an engine configuration you see nowadays.
Mainly in Italian supercars, American sports cars and an arsenal of other powerful vehicles. In 1932,
Henry Ford at age 69 invented the V8 engine. The first V8 was 3.6 litres, made 65 horsepower and
cost $610.
A fun fact about Henry Ford is that he did not just develop cars, he also created a small town in the
Amazon called Fordlandia to create automobiles. It was visioned to be a self reliant town and rubber
tree plantation. Unfortunately the legacy did not carry on and to this day, the town is

How is the experience of exile dealth with in Palestinian...
How is the experience of exile dealt with in Palestinian memoirs? The experience of exile is dealt with
differently depending on the memoir, but the overall picture received is one of feeling lost,
unwelcomed, isolated and being unable to fully integrate into their new society. Memoirs often
provide an insight into the lives of different types of people, Ghada Karmi s In search of Fatima
memoir provides a detailed look at the life and experiences in exile from the Palestinian perspective.
Karmi and her family were forced to leave their homeland in the late 1940s due to the creation of the
State of Israel. After being forced out of their homes by the settling Jewish population, the family
moved to England as refugees. Growing up in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first impression of exile felt by the family, especially in her Mother and Father, is that it will only
be a temporary affair and that they will soon be back in Palestine. Ghada s Mother completely rejects
London and the British way of life by refusing to learn English, not getting central heating and
changing the flooring in the kitchen from carpet to tiles so it resembles that of a Palestinian kitchen.
My mother had decided to recreate Palestine in London. Like some Palestinian Miss Havisham, for
her, the clock stopped in Jerusalem in April 1948 .3 When the Karmi s arrived in London, Britain still
had the rationing system in place since the war which involved food vouchers. Since they were
Muslim and were prohibited from eating pig meat by religion, Ghada s Mother gave their pork and
bacon coupons to their local greengrocer; this ensured his lasting devotion. He picked out his best fruit
for her or kept it aside until she came round. 4 The memoir recalls how the family continued to
participate in Arabic traditions whilst in England, such as reading the Quran and eating Arab based
foods. It is also noted how She [Ghada s mother] listened avidly to the news coming out of the Arab
world about Palestine and she and my father

Cause And Effects Of The Haiti Earthquake
On January 12th, 2010, the small country of Haiti was hit by a 7.0 magnitude earthquake that
devastated the city of Port au Prince and surrounding areas (Haiti earthquake of 2010, 2015). The 30
second disaster was just the beginning of a collection of aftershocks that then struck the country
relentlessly for days (Haiti earthquake of 2010, 2015). Many areas were reduced to rubble leaving
approximately one million Haitians homeless and 350 000 dead and another 300 000 injured (Haiti
earthquake of 2010, 2015). The ill prepared country was sitting on two tectonic plates the Caribbean
and the North American, where there was slippage resulting in the earthquake (KS3 Bitesize
Geography). Following the environmental catastrophe, the international community responded, and a
relief effort began (Haiti earthquake of 2010, 2015). Though the earthquake happened quickly, the
lasting impact and trauma remained. In an article from the Wall Street Journal, Luhnow and Dugan
stated that following the event many people went searching for psychological support and aid instead
of physical (2010). After having buildings tumble and fall onto people, many suffered from PTSD and
survivors guilt; children were the most emotionally traumatized, and there was a fundamental lack of
aid for facing psychological traumas endured by so many (Luhnow Dugan, 2010). As a society, an
increase in crime and violence is on the rise; Haitians had no defined structure in communities, and

Brasil Foods Case Study
Succeeding in any business setting requires strategy since there always exists the threat of new
entrants and existing competitors. While Brasil Foods has done its best to acquire some of the
renowned competitors in the country, the strategy does not end with acquisitions and the suppression
of competitors. There are key strategic issues that play a greater role in business success. One of the
key strategic issues that have been overlooked is company positioning. It is needless to expand
domestically and internationally unless a company is positioned in such a way that the competitive
forces are weakest. Since the company has established a portion of the industry where competitive
forces are weaker, expanding into untapped markets brings along a great risk. Their plan to expand
into Africa for instance would cost the company a lot financially and structurally, considering the fact
that there is no assurance of business success in this region. They made it in Brazil since the market
was well understood. Rather than expanding blindly, therefore, company positioning should be taken
into account. The company should consider regions where consumption of their products is high while
competition is low. Another strategic issue is the exploitation of industry change. While most people
are tending towards fast foods ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As the economic curve took different turns in Brazil, people had a greater buying power. Lifestyle
changed and families started dining out as a result of more working hours and reduced free time.
These are some of the industry changes that should inform company change. Brasil Foods took
advantage of this domestic change and leveraged from food service, something that can be expanded
to other regions. Expanding to other parts of Europe as postulated by Fay could be a good move since
the European region has a relatively high buying power and people are too busy to cook as is the trend

The Ethics Of Amateurism And College Athletes
Salaries, wages, and compensations have always been major and generally controversial topics in
democratic America. And, with the rising popularity of college athletics, particularly football,
compensation (or lack thereof) for college athletes has recently been a hot topic in American sports.
While some of the debate stems from the similarity between responsibilities college athletes have to
their programs and those of professionals, most of the issue involves the principles of amateurism.
Recent scandals involving college athletes such as Terrelle Pryor, Johnny Manziel, and Todd Gurley
have raised questions about the ethics of amateurism, particularly with regard to the NCAA
organization. The issue is found in a very gray area, where there is most likely no definitive one size
fits all solution, but the resolution of this issue is one that will change and shape the future of college
athletics across the national landscape. For as long as second level institutions have sponsored sports
teams to represent their universities, there have been regulations (both official and unofficial) on the
athletes, including their safety and benefits. This led to the formation of the NCAA in 1906. The
NCAA s formation in the beginning was to preserve the sport itself in a time when the sport was
perceived as too dangerous to be played. United States President Theodore Roosevelt actually
inadvertently set the NCAA in motion when he convened thirteen football representatives (Treadway,

Human Services And Human Trafficking
Human trafficking is the act or practice of illegally transporting people from one country or area to
another, typically for the purposes of forced labor or commercial sexual exploitation, however, it is
continuing to grow in the united states and is happening everywhere not just in other countries. In this
essay, I want to explain how human trafficking is involved in human services and how we can help
people get help after they have been a victim of human trafficking. Victims can be men or women, or
children, foreign nationals or U.S. citizens, the attacker normally draws in the victim with a stable job,
education, or relationships.
In most cases, social services would be involved in helping the victim either cope or get medical
attention.

The Battle Between Christianity And Islam
Towards the end of the eleventh century in Western Europe and Eurasia, a range of social, economical
and religious influences collectively influenced the sequence of religious wars which we know as the
Crusades. Although the series of holy wars against Islam is typically portrayed as the fault of
overzealous popes and belligerent kings; the truth behind the clash between Christianity and Islam is
far more elaborate. The direct repercussions following two centuries of prolonged warfare afflicted
Christendom with the loss of several millions of lives and immense financial expenditure. On the
contrary, the Crusades stimulated the fundamental expansion and the ultimate downfalls of nations in
both the Western and Eastern fields.
Contrary to popular belief, the Crusades (1095 A.D 1291 A.D) were defensive wars in response to
Islamic expansion following Prophet Mohammed s death in the 7th century. It is all too commonly
assumed that the Crusades were the vanguard of the Church s self righteousness and prejudice that
warped the enlightened Oriental culture with Western antagonism. Although elements of these
assumptions are true to some extent; the Crusaders ultimate objective was to defend against the very
Muslims who initially prompted their response by conquering Christian lands in the name of Allah.
Similar to the Crusaders dogma of war, the Islamists had a warfare doctrine as well. In traditional
Islam the world was divided into several spheres known as abodes. Two abodes

1993 World Trade Center Bombing Research Paper
The 1933 World Trade Center Bombing was a terrorist attack on the World Trade Center, carried out
on February 26, 1993, when a truck bomb exploded below the North Tower of the World Trade Center
in New York City. Six suspects carried out this bombing that killed six people and injured more than
1000 people. Ramzi Yousef was one of the main perpetrators of this 1993 bombing. His reasoning
behind it was to get back at the United States for aiding Israel and making the Palestinian people
suffer. The 1993 World Trade Center Bombing impacted America socially, economically, and
politically.

Government officials estimated that it would be unlikely that the cost of the bombing reach the record
$15 billion in losses from Hurricane Andrew. However, the destruction will by far exceed the $330
million in losses caused by a flood in downtown Chicago. The 1993 World Trade Center bombing
caused $1.1 billion dollars in insured losses. This includes $317 million in relocation expenses, $318
million in lost business and lost labor, and $79 million in lost retail sales. The bombing shaped up to
be one of New York City s most costly financial disruptions. Business at the World Trade Center had
come to a screeching stop. The bombing affected many businesses, including banks, retail stores,
hotels, restaurants etc. More than 350 businesses hoped that the bombing would be covered by
insurance. Some businesses are concerned that insurers will not pay all their expenses leaving them to
pay for it themselves. Insurance rates drastically increased for businesses inside and outside of New
York City. Stores have seen business drop by 50 to 90 percent, forcing some layoffs. Jon Torres,
manager of Lynn s Hallmark card shop said that his business was off by 92 percent. They opened right
away, but there was no traffic, just a few curious people. Torres had to lay off 21 of his employees. I
had 28 employees, and I m working with about 7. They keep calling to see if they should come in, but
I ve got nothing for them to do, says Torres. Like Torres, many businesses are anxious about when
they will return to normal. The New York Vista Hotel that sits above the site of the explosion, which is
now vacant, is losing $150,000 to $250,000 a day. It may cost more than a couple hundred million to
repair the hotel if the structural damage is severe. Not only did workers and companies leave behind
their offices and records, but they also lost their cars. Don C. Becker, President of The Journal of
Commerce Inc, estimates that

Dystopian Places In The Giver
The Giver
Simply, a dystopia is defined as a bad place, a place where no one would want to live, a place in which
one s rights and freedoms would be gone, a place where the environment would be devastated.
Dystopia is created from the Greek prefix dis meaning bad, harsh, or wrong and the Greek root topos
meaning place.
The Giver proves all of these characteristics true. Jonas and his community receive no freedom or
pain. Without pain, the world can not evolve because you can not learn from your mistakes. The
community is dehumanized, but because no one has felt happiness they shall not any what it should
feel like. In The Giver by Lois Lowry the setting is a dystopian based community because citizens live
in a dehumanized state, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Jonas is sitting with his family at the dinner table when his sister says something very important. The
text states, I feel sorry for anyone who is in a place where he feels strange and stupid. (Lowry 6). This
quote is very important because it shows that even though she doesn t know it she is starting to realize
people aren t treated right. Jonas and his family have been brainwashed to think that this is how life
should be but they just can t figure it out. Shortly after Jonas had a discussion with his parents whether
they love him, his mom tells him why it is inappropriate to use the word Love . Jonas thinks for a
while then he says, Things could change, Gabe, Jonas went on. Things could be different. I don t know
how, but there must be some way for things to be different. There could be colors. And grandparents,
he added, staring through the dimness toward the ceiling of his sleeping room. And everybody would
have the memories. (Lowry 128). This quotes stood out a lot. Jonas finally realizes how bad people
are treated and he wants to change it for Gabriel. Foreshadowing the end of the book this is the
breaking point where Jonas wants to change life for Gabriel. Jonas realizes his community is far from
perfect. His whole life he believed this was the only way to live, but when he figured out that there
were other ways, he realized how dehumanized his community

I Am On The Clock Right Now
As I neared Bryant Street, I shifted the box with car parts. I had to get them to that guy up the block as
quickly as I could. There wouldn t be anything to smile about if I got fired for being too slow. Music
was blaring from a radio perched on top a phone booth down the block, where a group of men leaned
against cars in front of the barbershop. I rushed past them, trying to balance the car parts in the box
with one hand while rubbing my other hand; trying some of the sticky grease off of it. I spotted Sam
and Maxie and crossed toward them. Hey, Sam. Maxie. Hey, Bucky, she replied, You finally got a free
afternoon? Hardly. No, girl, I m on the clock right now. Just dropping off some parts to a guy up the
block. I pointed my thumb over my shoulder. I suddenly remembered that I had to talk to Stick about
that. I m glad I ran into you, Sam. Do you a favor, will ya? Tell Steve to stop by the shop tomorrow.

shot. Yeah, no problem, Bucky. I ll tell him. I grinned, relieved. Thanks man, I gotta go. Get back to

Modern Art And African Art
There is a clear connection between modern art and African art. African symbols, shapes, and
ideologies influence paintings, textiles, and sculptures. However, not many discuss comics within the
traditional definition of art. The medium of comics boomed after the Great Depression with
Superman. A time of hardship, the Depression left people needing something to believe in. Since the
beginning of time people have used storytelling and mythology to explain the world around them.
After the Depression with the birth of Superman, superheros were no different. Superheros are modern
mythologies, a phrase coined by Richard Reynolds. In his book, Super Heroes: A Modern
Mythologies, he refers to Roland Barters essay Myth Today, which points out that mythology
represents culture as nature to explain the political and social anatomy of societies. Superheroes
contribute to this concept by using science and magic to create a sense of mythical wonder. Reynolds
uses the example of Thor, who is a god trapped on earth in the body of a scientist with a walking stick
as punishment from his father Odin. Throughout the comic book universe there are heroes that not
only draw from Norse mythology, but Native American, Hindu, and Greco Roman mythology as well.
One has to wonder if there is a connection between superheroes and African mythology. The Yoruban
orishas of Nigeria, which parallel the mythologies listed previously contains different deities each

The Effect Of Temperature On The Enzyme Peroxidase
The Effect of Temperature on the Enzyme Peroxidase The objective of this experiment is to explore
the effect of temperature on the enzyme peroxidase. To comprehend the effect that temperature can
have on enzymes, specifically peroxidase, one must understand what enzymes are and what their
function is. Enzymes are proteins that are found in cells that function as catalyst (Ms. Chang s Enzyme
Notes). What is meant by this is that enzymes increase the speed of chemical reactions without
changing the chemical equilibrium between reactants and products or becoming consumed or
permanently modified by the reaction through lowering the activation energy barrier (Enzymes).
Enzymes are necessary in order to sustain life because without them, the chemical reactions that take
place in our cells would occur far too slowly (Ms. Chang s Enzyme Notes). In order to generate
chemical reactions, enzymes must bind to a substrate. A substrate is a specific reactant that an enzyme
acts upon in order to generate product. A substrate binds to the active site on the enzyme, which is a
groove or cavity on the surface of the enzyme in which the substrate flawlessly fits. Active sites are
typically composed of amino acids from various portions of the polypeptide chains that are drawn
together in the tertiary structure of the folded protein (Enzymes). Each type of enzyme can only bind
with specific substrates, because it is critical that the substrate and the active site of the enzyme align

Caesar and Cleopatra
The meeting of Cleopatra with Caesar was sudden and unexpected. During 48 B.C., a civil war broke
out in Rome between Caesar and Pompey (a military General of Rome). After series of attacks,
Pompey was forced to leave to Alexandria hoping for the support of Ptolemy XIII. Instead, he was

At the meanwhile, the conflicts between Cleopatra and Ptolemy XIII became worse. Ptolemy XIII
hoped that he could win the throne (According to the will of Ptolemy XII, both of the heirs should
distribute their power) and barred his relations with Caesar. Cleopatra sensed this and was able to
present her case to him. Impressed by her keen intelligence and beauty, eventually, he fell in love with
her and a child was born named Caesarion.

Evolution Of The Carcharodon Carcharias ( Great White Shark )
Maverick Wagner Evolution
2/20/15
Evolution of the Carcharodon carcharias (Great White Shark) Did you know that sharks appeared in
the fossil record about 450 million years ago (Natural History Museum, N.D.)? Since we know that
sharks have existed for 450 million years we know that they have had to survive many mass
extinctions. In these mass extinctions many of the predators that preyed on sharks were killed off.
These mass extinctions that the sharks were able to survive gave them the perfect opportunity to rise
up in the food chain. The most well known shark of our time, the great white shark, is said to have
appeared about 11 million years ago (Shark Savers, N.D.).
The great white shark is one of many different species of cartilaginous fish that exist today. There are
approximately 350 species of sharks worldwide (SeaWorld, N.D.). Of these 350 different species of
sharks the great white shark in particular has become one of the most feared predators in the sea
leaving the question as to how it achieved this success. Some of the primary factors that have played a
big role in the great white s success as a predator are its keen sense of smell and its sharp teeth. One
interesting fact about its keen sense of smell is that great whites can detect one drop of blood in 100
liters of water and sense tiny amounts of blood up to three miles away making them adept at finding
prey that it has injured or an easy meal (National Geographic, N.D.). When it comes to

class. Besides the fact that the story the survivor tells is incredibly horrible and tragic, it resembles
9/11 extremely well. For example, the woman woke up with shattered glass around him and he needed
to find her daughter. There was a lot of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The week before he brings in the interview, he brings in his cat and shows that they can fall from great
heights without hurting themselves because they make their body into a parachute. The reader can see
that not only this but many other actions of Oskar s show that he is attempting to figure out a way to
justify his dad s death but at the same time find closure. Oskar is obviously alluding this special power
of cats to his father, imagining that his father fell out of the building and would have been able to
survive the fall if he was like a cat. The reader knows this because we see a picture that Oskar
obsesses over of a man falls off a building with the same shape of the cat when they fall, only upside
down. Oskar cannot think about anything else but his father, and this is shown by literally all of his
actions. He also cancels his appointments and misses school to travel all over the boroughs of New
York with strangers to find a match to a key he finds in his dad s study, instead of asking his mother.
The reader sees Oskar struggle with his dad s death, but never in this type of

Postmodernism Of The Rocky Horror Picture Show

ENG 195

Postmodernism of The Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975) The Rocky Horror Picture Show , directed
by Jim Chapman, is a campy comedy musical set in a horror and science fiction themed castle in
which sexuality and hilarity run rampant. The film, closely based on a stage production, hit theaters in
1975 and continued to rule the midnight film scene, becoming a cult classic. By using homage and
allusion to science fiction and horror B films, lambasting sexual identity and gender normality, and
employing a self referential universe, The Rocky Horror Picture Show stands as a strong
representation of 1970 s postmodernism in film. The Rocky Horror Picture Show opens with the, now
iconic, disembodied set of red lips singing Science Fiction/Double Feature . The song is a nostalgia
trip through time as it references everything thing from Flash Gordon s underwear to reminding us
who stars in Forbidden Planet. The setting of the film its self is a spooky manor and set piece that is
almost identical to the sets from Hammer Film Productions such as The Curse of Frankenstein
(Terence Fisher, 1957) and the remake of The Old Dark House (William Castle, 1963). When we first
meet Dr. Frankenfurter, he suggests that all characters (and audience) take in an old Steve Reeves
movie and by the films climax Frankenfurter is dressed like burlesque queen Lili St. Cyr and being
carried up an RKO radio tower, much like Fay Wray being

Examples Of Promiscuity In Brave New World
Introduction: During the writing of the novel, Brave New World, Aldous Huxley, the author of the
book, saw the way society was beginning to change. Throughout the story, he explores many different
predictions that he has seen create an affect our world today. One of the main predictions he made was
on the way promiscuity has changed the view of romantic relationships. As Huxley began to see
people s sexual behavior change he used his ideas to integrate in with how the world would turn out.
Huxley incorporates promiscuity in his utopian society called the World State, to foreshadow how the
world is conforming to the beliefs incorporated in the novel. Analysis Portion: Aldous Huxley foresees
that promiscuity will become socially acceptable and engrained in culture due to the lack of romantic
relationships. While at the savage reservation Linda talks to Lenina about how Everybody belongs to
everyone else . This is one example as to how there is no emotional attachment between any two
people. Well, here, ... Nobody s supposed to belong to more than one person. And if you have people
in the ordinary way, the others think you re wicked and anti social. They hate and despise you. (81). In
this quote Huxley talks about people being seen in the ordinary way . In his utopian society, being
promiscuous is not seen as wrong. However, in the savage reservation you are despised and disliked if
you engage in a relationship with multiple different people in a short amount of time.

The Importance Of A Common National Language
Common national language has consistently been a fundamental driving force to uphold national
bonding all over the globe. This can be recognized by historical examples ranging from those found in
Western countries to Asian countries, such as how French was adopted as a means to reunify France as
a whole country after the French Revolution and how Korea has made use of a common Korean
language to unite the Three Kingdoms and to secure statehood. In this context, common national
language refers to a language, both written and spoken that has connections, de facto or de jure with
users and the territory they occupy and exists originally but is then forged to be the first language to
shape a politically desired national identity. To strengthen the national solidarity, it has sometimes
been proposed that a typical national language is indispensable for accelerating the formation of an
appropriate national identity. This essay will argue that common national language is the key to
sustain nationhood because users can gain a greater sense of belongings and togetherness towards the
nation. This will be asserted by demonstrating how a particular concept can be stressed with a
language while speaking and by showing how a common national language could reduce the
communication gap between nationals with different mother tongues.
A key argument for adopting a universal national language is that speakers of a language can incline to
certain types of information while speaking (Mooney

The Pledge Should Be Allowed In The United States
The argument of being made to stand and say the pledge has become a hot topic. People believe that
the portion of Under God is unconstitutional and should be taken out. However there are also people
who believe that everyone should say the pledge to their country. There is deep and rich history on the
pledge itself. The pledge should still be said in public schools to keep a sense of patriotism in the
country. First off the history of the pledge started about 120 years ago. The pledge was invented for
the 400 year anniversary of Columbus discovering America. According to Freedom of Religion
Foundation, Seeking ideas to commemorate the 400th anniversary of the discovery of America on
Columbus Day, 1892, President Benjamin Harrison had initiated a call for the development of a
special patriotic school program to highlight the event. Bellamy and Upham were able to line up the

Thermodynamic Optimization of Flow Over an Isothermal...
Boundary layers are thin regions next to the wall in the flow where viscous forces are important. The
above mentioned wall can be in various geometrical shapes. Blasius [1] studied the simplest boundary
layer over a flat plate. He employed a similarity transformation which reduces the partial differential
boundary layer equations to a nonlinear third order ordinary differential one before solving it
analytically. The boundary layer flow over a moving plate in a viscous fluid has been considered by
Klemp and Acrivos [2], Hussaini et al. [3], Fang and Zhang [4] and recently Ishak et al. [5] and

Substituting Eqs.(5) and (6) into Eq.(2) we obtained the following ordinary differential equation. f^
(η)+f(η)f (η)=0 (7)
With these boundary conditions:
f(0)=0 ,f^ (0)=λ (8) lim┬(η→∞)⁡
〖f^ (η)〗 = 1
Where λ=u_w/u_∞ is the plate velocity ratio that represents the direction and magnitude of the
moving plate.
The skin friction coefficient C_f can be defined as:
C_f=τ_w/(ρ〖〖 u〗_∞〗^2 ) (9)
Where τ_w is the surface shear stress which is given by: τ_w=├ μ(∂u/∂y)┤| y=0 (10)
Substituting Eqs.(5),(6) into Eqs. (9) and (10) we obtain:
√(2〖Re〗_x ) C_f=f^ (0) (11)
Where 〖Re〗_x is the local Reynolds number.
Looking for Similarity solution for energy equation, Eq.3, we obtained: θ^ (η)+Pr f(η) θ^ (η)=0 (12)
Where θ=(T T_∞)/(T_w T_∞ ) (13)
Is dimensionless temperature and Pr=ν/α .
The boundary conditions are:
At η=0: θ(0)=1 (14) lim┬(η→∞)⁡
θ(η) = θ(∞)=0
The local Nusselt number〖 Nu〗_x, is defined as:
〖Nu〗_x=(x q_w)/(k (T_w T_∞)) (15)
Where q_w is the surface heat flux which is: q_w= k├ ∂T/∂y┤|_(y=0 ) (16)

The film Holes is a well known Disney movie based on Louis Sachar s 1998 children novel of the
same title. Although, it is often the case that books are better than its film counterpart, the movie
adaptation by Disney, actually received positive reviews from critics and stayed true to the original
story as much as possible. However, changes were still made by director Andrew Davis when it comes
to the portrayal of characters, plots, and emphasis of theme based on his own interpretation of the
literature. Some of these changes positively worked for the film, while the others are cumbrous and
unnecessary. First, let s look at the characters. By comparing the original text and film, we can easily

film through his trivial yet effective plot changes. Moreover, he also altered his focus on the theme to
eliminate heavy racial topic and put more scenes about friendship, which is closer to children s daily
life. Nevertheless, Andrew s alteration on characters can easily rob the audience from seeing some
brilliant points in the main character s life that only readers of the novel know

lighter ones. Basically how force effects motion.
With the catapult as the force, I sent items soaring, after weighing them, and then

Education Is An Important Aspect Of A Person s Life
Education is an important aspect of a person s life. From the moment that they start school in
kindergarten to when they graduate from college, education has played a major role in their lives.
Many children are able to go to good schools and get the education that they need in order to be
successful later in life. There are, however many children across the country who are not so lucky and
do not or cannot attend these types of schools. The reason for this disparity in educational inequality
are numerous and can include that there aren t any good schools in the neighborhood, schools employs

The act had mixed results over the years and people wonder if it was a success or not. In order to have
a better understanding of No Child Left Behind and its legacy we need to look at several factors.
These factors can include what is policy, the reason for the act being created in the first place, the
people that helped create the act and help implement it, and finally the legacy that it left behind. By
looking at these factors plus, others we can have a better understanding of how policy works and
know how this policy affected education for future generations.
Before talking about the policy itself, we first need to look at what issues/problems it was trying to
solve in the first place. A problem, according to Birkland (2016), is usually an undesirable situation
that according to people and interests groups, that can be alleviated by government action. This
definition of a problem seems to say that it is, a situation that no one wants to be in, and when a
problem does occur, it is something that people feel can be minimized by government action. An
example of the government taking action against a problem, could be with the country s issue of gun
control. Many people across the country feel that, gun violence is out of control and is a major
problem that needs to be solved now rather than later. These people feel that if the government were to
take the appropriate action, the amount of people that die every year due to gun violence, would be
greatly

Influencing Socio Political Cultural Factors Essay
Theory Application Paper: Ma Vie en Rose (My Life in Pink)
Influencing Socio Political Cultural Factors 1) Identify two forces of the dominant culture that you
observed in the film that influenced the family s reactions to Ludovic and/or the family s functioning.
Describe the family s resulting responses or behaviors. Be sure to give clear examples from the movie
to illustrate your thoughts. (1 page) A dominant culture subsists as a culture that has great influence,
predominance, and authority within a societal or dogmatic context and its dominance can be realized
through various processes including financial strength, violence or the threat of violence, or across
more subtle methods of supremacy and relegation (Sue Sue, 2016). Consequently, the Fabre family in
Ma Vie en Rose is oppressed by the dominant culture in their White, middle class neighborhood in
France, which dictates the norms of the neighborhood. The Father, Pierre Fabre, has moved his family
directly across the street from his conservative boss whose traditionalist ideas are represented by the
dominant culture of the neighborhood and he uses his power to influence the Fabre family and the
community. The first force of dominant culture evident in this film was the unalterable influence that
society has in shaping subjective indications of what gender entails. In respect to Ludovic and the
transgender community, the author will identify Ludovic with the pronouns she/her throughout this

The Social And Social Problems And Effects Of Smartphones
Nearly all of today s society has a smartphone in hand. As a whole, we depend on this phone in the
same aspect as we did a baby blanket in our childhood. Major mental health issues, such as lack of
social skills, memory problems, and stress are due to this technology. These are some of the biggest
concerns when it comes to owning a phone, unfortunately, the effects are not fully realized. These
devices have brought several problems in user s lives, despite supposedly making it easier. Everyday
human social interactions are suffering due to the part smartphones play. Furthermore, being
connected through this technology is something that is bragged upon, but users are not as connected as
they would like to think. Unfortunately this constant communication gives a false sense of connection,
because when they are face to face there is little interaction. Turkle states that communication between

Federalist 10 Paper
FEDERALIST #10
This paper is considered an important document in American history for it lays out how the writers of
the constitution defined the form of government that would protect minority rights from organized and
united factions that intended to pass legislation injurious to the liberty of the minority or detrimental to
the good of the country.
The Federalist Papers, were a series of eighty five essays written by Alexander Hamilton, John Jay,
and James Madison between October 1787 and May 1788. The essays were published anonymously,
under the pen name Publius, primarily in two New York state newspapers of the time: The New York

With pure democracy he means a system in which every citizen vote directly for laws. And with
republic he intends a society in which citizens vote for an elite of representatives who then vote for
laws. He indicates that the voice of the people pronounced by a body of representatives is more
conformable to the interest of the community. Because again, common people s decisions are affected
by their self interest.
Then he makes an argument in favor of a large republic against a small republic for the choice of fit
characters to represent the public s voice. In a large republic where the number of voters and
candidates is greater, the probability to elect competent representatives is broader. The voters have a
wider option. In a small republic it would also be easier for the candidates to fool the voters, while in a
large one, harder.
The last argument Madison makes in favor of a large republic is, in a small republic there will be a
lower variety of interests and parties, so more frequently a majority will be found. The number of
participants of that majority, will be lower, and considering they live in a more limited territory, it
would be easier for them to agree and work together for the accomplishment of their ideas. While in a
large republic the variety of interests will be greater so to make it harder to find a majority. Even if
there is a majority it would be harder for them to

Elizabeth Barrett Browning s The Cry Of The Children
Elizabeth Barrett Browning s The Cry of the Children Like many writers in the Victorian Age,
Elizabeth Barrett Browning used her poetry as a platform to reach a larger audience to bring
awareness to contemporary social issues (Greenblatt, Elizabeth Barrett Browning pp. 1,123). Common
issues that were written about during the Victorian Age included inequality between men and women,
child labor and the American abolitionist movement (1,123). According to the first footnote referenced

Browning brought awareness to the fact that children who were working in factories or mining for
coal had no time to play, relax or to just be kids. The loss of play time for these employed children
was one of the issues Barrett Browning stressed in her poem; whereas, other problems that these
children encountered included exhaustion and facing hazards daily. She conveyed to her readers how
tired the children were and how little energy they possessed (65 71); If we cared for any meadows, it

adolescents experienced each day. The children were required to move heavy loads, For, all day, we

Self Identity In Cambio De Armas
Cambio de armas
The theme in which is constantly shown throughout the novel is the concept of self identity. Identity is
a state of mind in which one identifies his or her character traits in addition to one s idea of being.
Identity indicates one s mental, emotional and physical image of which they depict themselves to be.
It also refers to the construction of individual and society s characteristics by which we are
symbolized and recognized as to who we are. The concept of self identity is used in many books and
novels in order to tie the reader to the story. This is done in a way that the write creates a character
with a loss of self identity that will then allow the reader to relate to. The theme of identity is often

It is the belief in this existence of one s self, the assumption of all our experiences of consciousness.
We all embrace this identity that we feel is ours alone. I speak of my experiences as experienced by
me. I would seem to be talking nonsense, if I referred to myself in the plural or spoke of how the
multiplicity of me s experienced an event. Although most will submit to the existence of levels of
consciousness, we categorize those people who exhibit distinct personalities as non ordinary. All
popular theories of self identity set about the task of proving a singular self. I will attempt to analyze
the currently held theories of self identity, and consider cases where the singular self identity of
normal individuals is called into question. Psychologists seeking to clarify this discussion have
researched phenomena concerning the nature of self identity, and it s relation with consciousness.
The second concept is the Random Identities. This ties in with the first concept of divided identity
because she is unable to give one single identity to the man. The author states on page one of the
novel: Next is the man: the one, he, the nameless man who she can call by which ever name that
comes to mind; they all function the same, and they all fit him. And when he comes in the house he
answers even if she calls him Hugo, Sebastian, Ignacio, Alfredo or whatever else. She refers to him in
her mind as the nameless one .

John Deere s company has made so many technological advances over the hundreds of years that his

good idea of how to make his original designs better. John Deere was born in Rutland, Vermont on
February 7, 1804 (John Deere Leader Biography). He was the son of William Rinold Deere and Sarah

John Deere said it was a good deal. Deere kept his end of the bargain and kept sending all of his
manufactured goods down the Mississippi River to St. Louis and that is where all of John Deeres
goods caught the train and headed for the western parts of the United States. After Deere signed
another contract with the train company in 1871, he decided to have them ship a few of his technology
and manufactured goods down south to Texas and clear over to California to see how much money he
would make at that place. John Deere had a range in expertise from the train to farming equipment.
John Deere helped invent the mechanical reaper for wheat in the 1859 (John Deere Facts). In the eyes
of the farmers that farmed in the Great Plains this machine saved some time and it made everyone else
happy to, because more they got planted. The more they got cut. The more the people had to eat,
Which really was a win for everybody. The farmers were able to produce so much of their own crop
that they had quite a bit left over, so they could feed their families, and they still could sell it for some
money if

Story Of An Hour Analysis Essay
Louise Mallard, the protagonist of the short story The Story of an Hour by Kate Chopin, is a woman
who struggles in a marriage she is not happy with and suffers from a heart condition. Struggling to
find her own identity and her own life, Mrs. Mallard is overwhelmed with independence and freedom
after her husband, Brently Mallard dies in a tragic train accident.
Louise Mallard is a frail woman who is not happy with her life and her marriage. Her heart trouble
makes it more difficult for her sister, Josephine, to tell her the news about the tragic train accident
where her husband, Brently, dies. She cries like any other widow would do. She walks towards her
room, where she finds herself fighting with the new feelings she never felt before. In the room, she
finds herself looking out the window to the landscape outside, the same landscape that has always
been there but now she realizes how beautiful it is and it brings new meaning to her, she sees the tops
of trees that were all aquiver with the new spring of life . The same spring life she is now going to live
after her husband s death. The patches of blue sky showing here and her through the clouds reflects
her trying to find her own life and identity throughout the years of her marriage. Fighting the fear and

Impact Of Greek Culture
Greek culture, in my opinion, contributed the most to the development of other future civilizations
culture. They paved the way to what is known about Greek and their culture as of today. With the idea
of their Religion, Art, Worship of many Gods, and ancient Greek music being the focal point of it all.
Which happens to be a great deal of the reason I chose Greek culture as my answer. Majority of the
time when you discuss Greece you bring up their past or how Greece came about and the impact past
Greek culture made on their people. This is what led me to believe their past culture in relation to the
contribution, development, and the impact it had on other civilizations would be the perfect answer
due to my acquisition that it had a much ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Greeks music was probably the most culturally influential aspect out of all the things the Greeks
practiced. Their music also tied in other aspects of their culture which they loved to display in their
songs, and through their art. A great example of this is THE METER OF THE ILIAD AND THE
ODYSSEY which is a song based on the clash between two Gods Odysseus and Achilleus this piece is
only a stepping stone into what Greek music developed into as future civilizations came about.
Although this was early music Greek songs like this one are the ones that paved the way and made a
huge development as to what we know as Greek music, and made a great deal of impact on how they
display their music as of now throughout their culture.
When you view Greece as of today you would see a great deal of beautiful art, statues, vase paintings
and so on... A lot of these items are pieces of the past but are still being displayed throughout other
civilizations. While reading the text you will learn the Greeks art played a huge role in their culture
including many stages of art such as Geometric Art, Orientalizing Art, Archaic Art, and Vase painting.
These stages of art were the building blocks of art throughout other civilizations some are still
practiced and some are just treasures of the past to show how Greek culture came about.
To conclude the impact Greece made on other civilizations were through their art forms,

The Pros And Cons Of Environmental Pollution
Environmental health is your wellbeing of your surroundings or conditions in which a person, animal,
or plant lives or operates. There things effect your air pollution like carbon monoxide you can get
things like asthma. Also there clean water there different type of water depend where you live. Finally
there is way to improve your environmental health and those around you.
Cars and trucks produce air pollution throughout their life, including pollution emitted during vehicle
operation, refueling, manufacturing, and disposal. Additional emissions are associated with the refini
ary and secondary pollution. Primary pollution is emitted directly into the atmosphere; secondary
pollution results from chemical reactions between pollutants in the atmosphere. The following are the
major pollutants from motor vehicles. These particles of soot and metals give smog its murky color.
Fine particles less than one tenth the diameter of a human hair pose the most serious threat to human
health, as they can penetrate deep into lungs. PM is a direct primary pollution and a secondary
pollution from hydrocarbons, nitrogen oxides, and sulfur dioxides. Diesel exhaust is a major
contributor to PM pollution. This odorless, colorless, and poisonous gas is formed by the combustion
of fossil fuels such as gasoline and is emitted primarily from cars and trucks. When inhaled, CO
blocks oxygen from the brain, heart, and other vital organs. Fetuses, newborn children, and people
with chronic illnesses are especially susceptible to the effects of CO. Asthma is a chronic disease
involving the airways in the lungs. These airways, or bronchial tubes, allow air to come in and out of
the lungs. If you have asthma your airways are always inflamed. They become even more swollen and
the muscles around the airways can tighten when something triggers your symptoms. This makes it
difficult for air to move in and out of the lungs, causing symptoms such as coughing, wheezing,
shortness of breath and/or chest tightness.
For many asthma sufferers, timing of these symptoms is closely related to

Death In Trobriand Culture
The Trobriand Islands of Papua New Guinea have been a landmark of anthropological study since the
early twentieth century. Anthropologists such as Bronislaw Malinowski and Annette Weiner have
written extensive ethnographies detailing the patriarchal ruling structure and matrilineal descent style
of Trobriand society. Different functionalist approaches to anthropology have attempted to give
meaning to the complex Trobriand culture. Perhaps one of the greatest performances of Trobriand
culture is in the case of death, which sets into motion a number of exchanges with layers of individual,
social, and cultural meanings. By examining Trobriand death rituals and analyzing structural
functionalism versus pure functionalism, a comprehensive understanding ... Show more content on

In comparison to structural functionalism, this branch of functionalism focused on individuals and
their specific human needs, and how institutions or customs could be shown as contributing to the
culture as a whole. The tenets of pure functionalism can be best understood by analyzing the work of
Bronislaw Malinowski. A pioneer for anthropological fieldwork, Malinowski lived in the Trobriand
Islands for two years during WWI. Although he often struggled between being a person with the
capacity for feeling and being someone who is rigorously objective and disciplined, Malinowski s
fieldwork provided the first in depth analysis of Trobriand culture (Geertz, 1988, 79). During his
study, Malinowski determined that there are seven basic human needs which include nutrition,
reproduction, bodily comforts, safety, relaxation, movement, and growth (Langness, 1974, 98). He
saw culture as the instrument through which these needs could be met. Like the historicalist Franz
Boas, Malinowski placed an emphasis on the individual, yet always tried to correlate one set of
activities with a cultural whole. It was with this mindset that Malinowski and other pure functionalists
attempted to understand the culture of the Trobriand Islands. Although Malinowski went into depth on
the Baloma spirit and its journey to the afterlife or Tuma, he did not explicitly cover death rituals in
the Trobriand

Bend It Like Beckham Movie Analysis
Bend it like Beckham is a movie that came out in the United States on August 1st, 2003. This movie
expresses the concept of marrying traditions to the world we leave in. Dreams are the colors on your
palette that helps you paint on life s canvas. They create goals to be reach, while giving hope for better
days. Religion is what keeps people grounded and secure. It can also unite groups of people with the
same ideology. Bend It Like Beckham demonstrates the differences between western and eastern
cultural behavior. We often forget that traditions are sedentary; they create a struggle when trying to
integrate ourselves into a community that is not your own. Can our dream triumph, when we have
religion as an adversary? Jessminder Jess ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Metaphors In Dante s Inferno
Dante Alighieri was one of the most inspiring Italian poets in the middle ages. One of his greatest
writings is about the afterlife, from the depths of Hell in his own made Inferno, into the mountains of
Purgatory and in the ever lasting spirits of Heaven called the Paradiso. But my main focus on this
essay is what in Dante s life inspired him to write like he did, particularly his Inferno. Questions and
history may lead us to believe that was it was his love, war or political view that shaped him as an
artist. There is a gap in his history with some unknowns for the simplest things like what was his birth
date. But some metaphors from his Divine Comedy may answer these questions.
Even today, Dante is inspiring artists with his writings and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Florence at this time being a loathed, despised, derogated community with corruption and discard,
Dante Alighieri lived most of his days working on his writings that will last hundreds of years. Church
versus independence of the city states gave Dante the motivation to get involved of becoming a
member of political governing body. In this time Florence has split into two parties, Guelphs who
support the pope and Ghibellines that support the Roman Emperor with the need of more freedom.
Dante was part of the White Guelphs and fought in war of his cause but with seeing life and death in
the horrific battle of war, this may have lead to vision of his own Hell. Dante was exiled from the city
by Black Guelphs or else he would be burned to the stake in result of his family having to split apart
leaving behind his wife Gemma Donati and his four children. Dante spent 20 years drifting from city
to city thinking about his long lost love Beatrice who was once a childhood sweetheart and also his
writings that would be for nothing without his mentor Brunetto Latino. Eventually Florence granted
amnesty to Florentines in exile but required to pay a large fine, Dante just preferred his drifter days in
exile with no plans to return to

  • 2. Monitoring Of Internal And External Environments Essay SCANNING AND MONITORING OF INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL ENVIRONMENTS IN FIRMS ACCESS BANK NIGERIAA CASE IN POINT Abstract The term the world is a global village particularly holds water as activities in various sectors are inter woven. Firms can no longer ignore the environment in which they operate. Environmental analysis is an important part of business processes. It is a tool which executives must take seriously to keep their competitive edge. How and why businesses carry out environmental analysis are issues to be discussed in this paper. The paper concludes with a practical example of Internal and External Environmental analysis of an existing bank Access Bank Nigeria. Introduction In 2006, a Non Governmental Organisation (NGO) based in India, Centre for Science and Environment (CSE), issued a statement that pesticides found in Pepsi Cola was far above the allowable health limits. As a result, people started avoiding the soft drinks and opted for healthier, organic option. Pepsi Cola engaged in a wide range of public awareness campaign and issued press statements to convince the public that the drink is perfectly safe. The pesticide Saga adversely affected sales of Pepsi in India. (CITE) From the example above, Pepsi Cola had to engage in a wide range of publicity campaign due to the action of one body, CSE. It is therefore clear that the success of a business does not solely depend on how well their internal processes are or how good the product is. External forces also ... • 3. Physician-Patient Relationship Paper From this weeks, I have enjoyed readings from Dr. Toombs thesis. The physician patient relationship has been extremely important in the healthcare industry. Rather than representing a shared reality between the patient and the physician, illness often represents two different realities. The first is that there is a meaning of one being significantly quantitative different from the other. It is critical to realize that in order for a person to be treated in the right way, there is a need for one to have good communication between the doctor and the patient. The doctor and the patient have two different perspectives regarding illness. They each have their own world and they look at it in their own way. In fact, the different perspectives often ... • 4. How Did Henry Ford Impact The World Henry Ford was born July 30, 1863 in Greenfield, Michigan. He is most famous for manufacturing the Ford Model T, the first production car ever made. At a young age, Ford demonstrated his mechanical ability, facility for leadership and learning by trial and error, ultimately developing the foundation for his career. Henry Ford learned about steam engines by becoming friends with people who ran them and eventually, in 1879 he left the farm to become an apprentice at the Michigan car company, a Detroit based railroad car manufacturer. In 1888, Ford married Clara Jane Bryant and had one child named Edsel. Ford supported himself by farming and running a sawmill. Although Henry Ford did not invent the automobile itself, instead he contributed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Therefore, in 1910 the company, along with Ford moved to a bigger plant in Highland, Michigan, north of Detroit. In 1913, Henry Ford and his company were producing one thousand Model Ts a day and by 1922, half the cars in America were Model Ts. A brand new two passenger Model T in 1922 would sell for 269 U.S. dollars. Henry Ford s creation of the Model T profited from his ideas and made a huge impact on the world. One of them being WWII and the Allies victory. Henry Ford s company aided the victory by developing airplane engines, tanks and other Ford vehicles. Another big impact Henry Ford made has to do with an engine configuration you see nowadays. Mainly in Italian supercars, American sports cars and an arsenal of other powerful vehicles. In 1932, Henry Ford at age 69 invented the V8 engine. The first V8 was 3.6 litres, made 65 horsepower and cost $610. A fun fact about Henry Ford is that he did not just develop cars, he also created a small town in the Amazon called Fordlandia to create automobiles. It was visioned to be a self reliant town and rubber tree plantation. Unfortunately the legacy did not carry on and to this day, the town is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The experience of exile is dealt with differently depending on the memoir, but the overall picture received is one of feeling lost, unwelcomed, isolated and being unable to fully integrate into their new society. Memoirs often provide an insight into the lives of different types of people, Ghada Karmi s In search of Fatima memoir provides a detailed look at the life and experiences in exile from the Palestinian perspective. Karmi and her family were forced to leave their homeland in the late 1940s due to the creation of the State of Israel. The first impression of exile felt by the family, especially in her Mother and Father, is that it will only be a temporary affair and that they will soon be back in Palestine. Ghada s Mother completely rejects London and the British way of life by refusing to learn English, not getting central heating and changing the flooring in the kitchen from carpet to tiles so it resembles that of a Palestinian kitchen. My mother had decided to recreate Palestine in London. Like some Palestinian Miss Havisham, for her, the clock stopped in Jerusalem in April 1948 .3 When the Karmi s arrived in London, Britain still had the rationing system in place since the war which involved food vouchers. Since they were Muslim and were prohibited from eating pig meat by religion, Ghada s Mother gave their pork and bacon coupons to their local greengrocer; this ensured his lasting devotion. He picked out his best fruit for her or kept it aside until she came round. 4 The memoir recalls how the family continued to participate in Arabic traditions whilst in England, such as reading the Quran and eating Arab based foods. It is also noted how She [Ghada s mother] listened avidly to the news coming out of the Arab world about Palestine and she and my father ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Cause And Effects Of The Haiti Earthquake On January 12th, 2010, the small country of Haiti was hit by a 7.0 magnitude earthquake that devastated the city of Port au Prince and surrounding areas (Haiti earthquake of 2010, 2015). The 30 second disaster was just the beginning of a collection of aftershocks that then struck the country relentlessly for days (Haiti earthquake of 2010, 2015). Many areas were reduced to rubble leaving approximately one million Haitians homeless and 350 000 dead and another 300 000 injured (Haiti earthquake of 2010, 2015). The ill prepared country was sitting on two tectonic plates the Caribbean and the North American, where there was slippage resulting in the earthquake (KS3 Bitesize Geography). Following the environmental catastrophe, the international community responded, and a relief effort began (Haiti earthquake of 2010, 2015). Though the earthquake happened quickly, the lasting impact and trauma remained. In an article from the Wall Street Journal, Luhnow and Dugan stated that following the event many people went searching for psychological support and aid instead of physical (2010). After having buildings tumble and fall onto people, many suffered from PTSD and survivors guilt; children were the most emotionally traumatized, and there was a fundamental lack of aid for facing psychological traumas endured by so many (Luhnow Dugan, 2010). As a society, an increase in crime and violence is on the rise; Haitians had no defined structure in communities, and most established norms ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Brasil Foods Case Study Succeeding in any business setting requires strategy since there always exists the threat of new entrants and existing competitors. While Brasil Foods has done its best to acquire some of the renowned competitors in the country, the strategy does not end with acquisitions and the suppression of competitors. There are key strategic issues that play a greater role in business success. One of the key strategic issues that have been overlooked is company positioning. It is needless to expand domestically and internationally unless a company is positioned in such a way that the competitive forces are weakest. Since the company has established a portion of the industry where competitive forces are weaker, expanding into untapped markets brings along a great risk. Their plan to expand into Africa for instance would cost the company a lot financially and structurally, considering the fact that there is no assurance of business success in this region. They made it in Brazil since the market was well understood. Rather than expanding blindly, therefore, company positioning should be taken into account. The company should consider regions where consumption of their products is high while competition is low. Another strategic issue is the exploitation of industry change. While most people are tending towards fast foods ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As the economic curve took different turns in Brazil, people had a greater buying power. Lifestyle changed and families started dining out as a result of more working hours and reduced free time. These are some of the industry changes that should inform company change. • 8. The Ethics Of Amateurism And College Athletes Salaries, wages, and compensations have always been major and generally controversial topics in democratic America. And, with the rising popularity of college athletics, particularly football, compensation (or lack thereof) for college athletes has recently been a hot topic in American sports. While some of the debate stems from the similarity between responsibilities college athletes have to their programs and those of professionals, most of the issue involves the principles of amateurism. Recent scandals involving college athletes such as Terrelle Pryor, Johnny Manziel, and Todd Gurley have raised questions about the ethics of amateurism, particularly with regard to the NCAA organization. The issue is found in a very gray area, where there is most likely no definitive one size fits all solution, but the resolution of this issue is one that will change and shape the future of college athletics across the national landscape. For as long as second level institutions have sponsored sports teams to represent their universities, there have been regulations (both official and unofficial) on the athletes, including their safety and benefits. This led to the formation of the NCAA in 1906. The NCAA s formation in the beginning was to preserve the sport itself in a time when the sport was perceived as too dangerous to be played. United States President Theodore Roosevelt actually inadvertently set the NCAA in motion when he convened thirteen football representatives (Treadway, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 10. The Battle Between Christianity And Islam Towards the end of the eleventh century in Western Europe and Eurasia, a range of social, economical and religious influences collectively influenced the sequence of religious wars which we know as the Crusades. Although the series of holy wars against Islam is typically portrayed as the fault of overzealous popes and belligerent kings; the truth behind the clash between Christianity and Islam is far more elaborate. The direct repercussions following two centuries of prolonged warfare afflicted Christendom with the loss of several millions of lives and immense financial expenditure. On the contrary, the Crusades stimulated the fundamental expansion and the ultimate downfalls of nations in both the Western and Eastern fields. Contrary to popular belief, the Crusades (1095 A.D 1291 A.D) were defensive wars in response to Islamic expansion following Prophet Mohammed s death in the 7th century. It is all too commonly assumed that the Crusades were the vanguard of the Church s self righteousness and prejudice that warped the enlightened Oriental culture with Western antagonism. Although elements of these assumptions are true to some extent; the Crusaders ultimate objective was to defend against the very Muslims who initially prompted their response by conquering Christian lands in the name of Allah. Similar to the Crusaders dogma of war, the Islamists had a warfare doctrine as well. In traditional Islam the world was divided into several spheres known as abodes. Two abodes ... Six suspects carried out this bombing that killed six people and injured more than 1000 people. Ramzi Yousef was one of the main perpetrators of this 1993 bombing. His reasoning behind it was to get back at the United States for aiding Israel and making the Palestinian people suffer. Government officials estimated that it would be unlikely that the cost of the bombing reach the record $15 billion in losses from Hurricane Andrew. However, the destruction will by far exceed the $330 million in losses caused by a flood in downtown Chicago. The 1993 World Trade Center bombing caused $1.1 billion dollars in insured losses. This includes $317 million in relocation expenses, $318 million in lost business and lost labor, and $79 million in lost retail sales. The bombing shaped up to be one of New York City s most costly financial disruptions. Business at the World Trade Center had come to a screeching stop. The bombing affected many businesses, including banks, retail stores, hotels, restaurants etc. More than 350 businesses hoped that the bombing would be covered by insurance. Some businesses are concerned that insurers will not pay all their expenses leaving them to pay for it themselves. Insurance rates drastically increased for businesses inside and outside of New York City. Stores have seen business drop by 50 to 90 percent, forcing some layoffs. Jon Torres, manager of Lynn s Hallmark card shop said that his business was off by 92 percent. They opened right away, but there was no traffic, just a few curious people. Torres had to lay off 21 of his employees. I had 28 employees, and I m working with about 7. They keep calling to see if they should come in, but I ve got nothing for them to do, says Torres. Like Torres, many businesses are anxious about when they will return to normal. The New York Vista Hotel that sits above the site of the explosion, which is now vacant, is losing $150,000 to $250,000 a day. It may cost more than a couple hundred million to repair the hotel if the structural damage is severe. • 12. Dystopian Places In The Giver The Giver Simply, a dystopia is defined as a bad place, a place where no one would want to live, a place in which one s rights and freedoms would be gone, a place where the environment would be devastated. Dystopia is created from the Greek prefix dis meaning bad, harsh, or wrong and the Greek root topos meaning place. The Giver proves all of these characteristics true. Jonas and his community receive no freedom or pain. Without pain, the world can not evolve because you can not learn from your mistakes. The community is dehumanized, but because no one has felt happiness they shall not any what it should feel like. Jonas is sitting with his family at the dinner table when his sister says something very important. The text states, I feel sorry for anyone who is in a place where he feels strange and stupid. Jonas and his family have been brainwashed to think that this is how life should be but they just can t figure it out. Shortly after Jonas had a discussion with his parents whether they love him, his mom tells him why it is inappropriate to use the word Love . There could be colors. And grandparents, he added, staring through the dimness toward the ceiling of his sleeping room. And everybody would have the memories. (Lowry 128). Foreshadowing the end of the book this is the breaking point where Jonas wants to change life for Gabriel. Jonas realizes his community is far from perfect. There wouldn t be anything to smile about if I got fired for being too slow. • 15. Modern Art And African Art There is a clear connection between modern art and African art. African symbols, shapes, and ideologies influence paintings, textiles, and sculptures. However, not many discuss comics within the traditional definition of art. The medium of comics boomed after the Great Depression with Superman. A time of hardship, the Depression left people needing something to believe in. Since the beginning of time people have used storytelling and mythology to explain the world around them. After the Depression with the birth of Superman, superheros were no different. Superheros are modern mythologies, a phrase coined by Richard Reynolds. In his book, Super Heroes: A Modern Mythologies, he refers to Roland Barters essay Myth Today, which points out that mythology represents culture as nature to explain the political and social anatomy of societies. Superheroes contribute to this concept by using science and magic to create a sense of mythical wonder. Reynolds uses the example of Thor, who is a god trapped on earth in the body of a scientist with a walking stick as punishment from his father Odin. Throughout the comic book universe there are heroes that not only draw from Norse mythology, but Native American, Hindu, and Greco Roman mythology as well. One has to wonder if there is a connection between superheroes and African mythology. • 18. The Effect Of Temperature On The Enzyme Peroxidase The Effect of Temperature on the Enzyme Peroxidase The objective of this experiment is to explore the effect of temperature on the enzyme peroxidase. To comprehend the effect that temperature can have on enzymes, specifically peroxidase, one must understand what enzymes are and what their function is. Enzymes are proteins that are found in cells that function as catalyst (Ms. Chang s Enzyme Notes). What is meant by this is that enzymes increase the speed of chemical reactions without changing the chemical equilibrium between reactants and products or becoming consumed or permanently modified by the reaction through lowering the activation energy barrier (Enzymes). Enzymes are necessary in order to sustain life because without them, the chemical reactions that take place in our cells would occur far too slowly (Ms. Chang s Enzyme Notes). In order to generate chemical reactions, enzymes must bind to a substrate. A substrate is a specific reactant that an enzyme acts upon in order to generate product. A substrate binds to the active site on the enzyme, which is a groove or cavity on the surface of the enzyme in which the substrate flawlessly fits. Active sites are typically composed of amino acids from various portions of the polypeptide chains that are drawn together in the tertiary structure of the folded protein (Enzymes). Each type of enzyme can only bind with specific substrates, because it is critical that the substrate and the active site of the enzyme align ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Evolution Of The Carcharodon Carcharias ( Great White Shark ) Maverick Wagner Evolution 2/20/15 Evolution of the Carcharodon carcharias (Great White Shark) Did you know that sharks appeared in the fossil record about 450 million years ago (Natural History Museum, N.D.)? Since we know that sharks have existed for 450 million years we know that they have had to survive many mass extinctions. In these mass extinctions many of the predators that preyed on sharks were killed off. These mass extinctions that the sharks were able to survive gave them the perfect opportunity to rise up in the food chain. The most well known shark of our time, the great white shark, is said to have appeared about 11 million years ago (Shark Savers, N.D.). The great white shark is one of many different species of cartilaginous fish that exist today. There are approximately 350 species of sharks worldwide (SeaWorld, N.D.). Of these 350 different species of sharks the great white shark in particular has become one of the most feared predators in the sea leaving the question as to how it achieved this success. Some of the primary factors that have played a big role in the great white s success as a predator are its keen sense of smell and its sharp teeth. One interesting fact about its keen sense of smell is that great whites can detect one drop of blood in 100 liters of water and sense tiny amounts of blood up to three miles away making them adept at finding prey that it has injured or an easy meal (National Geographic, N.D.). • 24. Postmodernism Of The Rocky Horror Picture Show Sink 1 Daniel Sink Foster ENG 195 1 November 2016 Postmodernism of The Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975) The Rocky Horror Picture Show , directed by Jim Chapman, is a campy comedy musical set in a horror and science fiction themed castle in which sexuality and hilarity run rampant. The film, closely based on a stage production, hit theaters in 1975 and continued to rule the midnight film scene, becoming a cult classic. By using homage and allusion to science fiction and horror B films, lambasting sexual identity and gender normality, and employing a self referential universe, The Rocky Horror Picture Show stands as a strong representation of 1970 s postmodernism in film. The Rocky Horror Picture Show opens with the, now iconic, disembodied set of red lips singing Science Fiction/Double Feature . The song is a nostalgia trip through time as it references everything thing from Flash Gordon s underwear to reminding us who stars in Forbidden Planet. The setting of the film its self is a spooky manor and set piece that is almost identical to the sets from Hammer Film Productions such as The Curse of Frankenstein (Terence Fisher, 1957) and the remake of The Old Dark House (William Castle, 1963). Throughout the story, he explores many different predictions that he has seen create an affect our world today. One of the main predictions he made was on the way promiscuity has changed the view of romantic relationships. As Huxley began to see people s sexual behavior change he used his ideas to integrate in with how the world would turn out. Huxley incorporates promiscuity in his utopian society called the World State, to foreshadow how the world is conforming to the beliefs incorporated in the novel. Analysis Portion: Aldous Huxley foresees that promiscuity will become socially acceptable and engrained in culture due to the lack of romantic relationships. This can be recognized by historical examples ranging from those found in Western countries to Asian countries, such as how French was adopted as a means to reunify France as a whole country after the French Revolution and how Korea has made use of a common Korean language to unite the Three Kingdoms and to secure statehood. In this context, common national language refers to a language, both written and spoken that has connections, de facto or de jure with users and the territory they occupy and exists originally but is then forged to be the first language to shape a politically desired national identity. To strengthen the national solidarity, it has sometimes been proposed that a typical national language is indispensable for accelerating the formation of an appropriate national identity. This essay will argue that common national language is the key to sustain nationhood because users can gain a greater sense of belongings and togetherness towards the nation. This will be asserted by demonstrating how a particular concept can be stressed with a language while speaking and by showing how a common national language could reduce the communication gap between nationals with different mother tongues. A key argument for adopting a universal national language is that speakers of a language can incline to certain types of information while speaking (Mooney ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

And with republic he intends a society in which citizens vote for an elite of representatives who then vote for laws. He indicates that the voice of the people pronounced by a body of representatives is more conformable to the interest of the community. Because again, common people s decisions are affected by their self interest. Then he makes an argument in favor of a large republic against a small republic for the choice of fit characters to represent the public s voice. In a large republic where the number of voters and candidates is greater, the probability to elect competent representatives is broader. The voters have a wider option. In a small republic it would also be easier for the candidates to fool the voters, while in a large one, harder. The last argument Madison makes in favor of a large republic is, in a small republic there will be a lower variety of interests and parties, so more frequently a majority will be found. The number of participants of that majority, will be lower, and considering they live in a more limited territory, it would be easier for them to agree and work together for the accomplishment of their ideas. While in a large republic the variety of interests will be greater so to make it harder to find a majority. Even if there is a majority it would be harder for them to ... Elizabeth Barrett Browning s The Cry Of The Children Elizabeth Barrett Browning s The Cry of the Children Like many writers in the Victorian Age, Elizabeth Barrett Browning used her poetry as a platform to reach a larger audience to bring awareness to contemporary social issues (Greenblatt, Elizabeth Barrett Browning pp. 1,123). Common issues that were written about during the Victorian Age included inequality between men and women, child labor and the American abolitionist movement (1,123). According to the first footnote referenced in her poem The Cry of the Children , Barrett Browning composed this literary piece in reaction to a report distributed by a parliamentary commission following a government investigation that had uncovered the mistreatment of child workers; and to ... Later in the poem, the poet suggested that the children should spend time picking flowers in a meadow (57 59), however, the children implied that they would not know the difference between a cowslip and a weed, Are your cowslips of the meadows / Like our weeds anear the mine? [ ] (61 62). Barrett Browning brought awareness to the fact that children who were working in factories or mining for coal had no time to play, relax or to just be kids. The loss of play time for these employed children was one of the issues Barrett Browning stressed in her poem; whereas, other problems that these children encountered included exhaustion and facing hazards daily. She conveyed to her readers how tired the children were and how little energy they possessed (65 71); If we cared for any meadows, it were merely / To drop down in them and sleep (67 68). She wrote about the exhaustion they experienced and its consequences for the children, Our knees tremble sorely in the stooping / We fall upon our faces, trying to go (69 70). She informed her audience of the dangers and difficulties that the adolescents experienced each day. The children were required to move heavy loads, For, all day, we drag our burden tiring (73). We all embrace this identity that we feel is ours alone. I speak of my experiences as experienced by me. I would seem to be talking nonsense, if I referred to myself in the plural or spoke of how the multiplicity of me s experienced an event. Although most will submit to the existence of levels of consciousness, we categorize those people who exhibit distinct personalities as non ordinary. All popular theories of self identity set about the task of proving a singular self. I will attempt to analyze the currently held theories of self identity, and consider cases where the singular self identity of normal individuals is called into question. Psychologists seeking to clarify this discussion have researched phenomena concerning the nature of self identity, and it s relation with consciousness. The second concept is the Random Identities. This ties in with the first concept of divided identity because she is unable to give one single identity to the man. The author states on page one of the novel: Next is the man: the one, he, the nameless man who she can call by which ever name that comes to mind; they all function the same, and they all fit him. There things effect your air pollution like carbon monoxide you can get things like asthma. Also there clean water there different type of water depend where you live. Finally there is way to improve your environmental health and those around you. Cars and trucks produce air pollution throughout their life, including pollution emitted during vehicle operation, refueling, manufacturing, and disposal. Additional emissions are associated with the refini ary and secondary pollution. Primary pollution is emitted directly into the atmosphere; secondary pollution results from chemical reactions between pollutants in the atmosphere. The following are the major pollutants from motor vehicles. These particles of soot and metals give smog its murky color. Fine particles less than one tenth the diameter of a human hair pose the most serious threat to human health, as they can penetrate deep into lungs. PM is a direct primary pollution and a secondary pollution from hydrocarbons, nitrogen oxides, and sulfur dioxides. Diesel exhaust is a major contributor to PM pollution. This odorless, colorless, and poisonous gas is formed by the combustion of fossil fuels such as gasoline and is emitted primarily from cars and trucks. When inhaled, CO blocks oxygen from the brain, heart, and other vital organs. Fetuses, newborn children, and people with chronic illnesses are especially susceptible to the effects of CO. Asthma is a chronic disease involving the airways in the lungs. These airways, or bronchial tubes, allow air to come in and out of the lungs. If you have asthma your airways are always inflamed. They become even more swollen and the muscles around the airways can tighten when something triggers your symptoms. This makes it difficult for air to move in and out of the lungs, causing symptoms such as coughing, wheezing, shortness of breath and/or chest tightness. Anthropologists such as Bronislaw Malinowski and Annette Weiner have written extensive ethnographies detailing the patriarchal ruling structure and matrilineal descent style of Trobriand society. Different functionalist approaches to anthropology have attempted to give meaning to the complex Trobriand culture. Perhaps one of the greatest performances of Trobriand culture is in the case of death, which sets into motion a number of exchanges with layers of individual, social, and cultural meanings. By examining Trobriand death rituals and analyzing structural functionalism versus pure functionalism, a comprehensive understanding ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In comparison to structural functionalism, this branch of functionalism focused on individuals and their specific human needs, and how institutions or customs could be shown as contributing to the culture as a whole. The tenets of pure functionalism can be best understood by analyzing the work of Bronislaw Malinowski. A pioneer for anthropological fieldwork, Malinowski lived in the Trobriand Islands for two years during WWI. Although he often struggled between being a person with the capacity for feeling and being someone who is rigorously objective and disciplined, Malinowski s fieldwork provided the first in depth analysis of Trobriand culture (Geertz, 1988, 79). During his study, Malinowski determined that there are seven basic human needs which include nutrition, reproduction, bodily comforts, safety, relaxation, movement, and growth (Langness, 1974, 98). He saw culture as the instrument through which these needs could be met. Like the historicalist Franz Boas, Malinowski placed an emphasis on the individual, yet always tried to correlate one set of activities with a cultural whole. It was with this mindset that Malinowski and other pure functionalists attempted to understand the culture of the Trobriand Islands. Although Malinowski went into depth on the Baloma spirit and its journey to the afterlife or Tuma, he did not explicitly cover death rituals in the Trobriand ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

One of his greatest writings is about the afterlife, from the depths of Hell in his own made Inferno, into the mountains of Purgatory and in the ever lasting spirits of Heaven called the Paradiso. But my main focus on this essay is what in Dante s life inspired him to write like he did, particularly his Inferno. Questions and history may lead us to believe that was it was his love, war or political view that shaped him as an artist. There is a gap in his history with some unknowns for the simplest things like what was his birth date. But some metaphors from his Divine Comedy may answer these questions. Even today, Dante is inspiring artists with his writings and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Florence at this time being a loathed, despised, derogated community with corruption and discard, Dante Alighieri lived most of his days working on his writings that will last hundreds of years. Church versus independence of the city states gave Dante the motivation to get involved of becoming a member of political governing body. In this time Florence has split into two parties, Guelphs who support the pope and Ghibellines that support the Roman Emperor with the need of more freedom. Dante was part of the White Guelphs and fought in war of his cause but with seeing life and death in the horrific battle of war, this may have lead to vision of his own Hell. Dante was exiled from the city by Black Guelphs or else he would be burned to the stake in result of his family having to split apart leaving behind his wife Gemma Donati and his four children. Dante spent 20 years drifting from city to city thinking about his long lost love Beatrice who was once a childhood sweetheart and also his writings that would be for nothing without his mentor Brunetto Latino.
