The Positive Effects Of Employment On Lowering Recidivism
Much research has been done regarding the positive effect employment has on lowering recidivism.
However, little research has been done to determine the effect a criminal record, including registration
as a sex offender, has on finding gainful employment. Holzer s 1996 study (as cited by Johnson, 2006)
found that two thirds of employers in major cities would avoid hiring known ex offenders, indicating
that regardless of public policies that may make finding employment difficult, ex offenders ultimately
still have to overcome the social stigma of their criminal histories. Negative community attitudes
towards criminal history are even worse for those who are registered sex offenders (Willis, Levenson,
Ward, 2010). With the addition of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, the researchers also found that the unemployment rate among released offenders was over
six times higher than that of the general population at the time of the study in 2009. Furthermore, the
unemployment rate among ex offenders within nine months of release from prison was between 92 97
percent. Potential Barriers to Employment Unemployment can be especially hard to tackle when a
limited number of fields are open to those who are looking for jobs. A 1998 Bureau of Justice
Statisitcs Report (as quoted by Travis, Solomon, Waul, 2001) found that a number of fields were off
limits to ex offenders looking for work, including law, real estate, medicine, nursing, physical therapy,
and education . Released sex offenders may face further restrictions in which fields they may enter
depending on the stipulations of their release. Johnson (2006) notes that due to internet usage
restrictions, some released sex offenders are not able to perform jobs that require use of the internet.
Such restrictions may severely limit the job opportunities for ex offenders. Once an ex offender finds a
field in which they can work, they can be subject to further scrutiny through the use of criminal
background checks by hiring managers. Nally, et al. (2014) noted a number of studies showing that

Red Cross Culture In America
Senegal, a culture filled country, suffers greatly from poverty, meaning that many families may not be
able to afford or have ways of getting knowledge of health care that could potentially save their lives.
The red cross is one of the many organizations that provide assistance throughout Senegal, however,
not everyone knows or has accesses to the Red Cross. Communication varies throughout Senegal
bringing with it several life threatening things happening in Senegal including, street children,
diseases, and cultural activities that is extremely dangerous for Senegalese citizens. Further acts
should be put into place to provide all Senegalese people with information and ways of health care.

Taalibe, or street children, Used to be found all over Senegal cities until recent bands that have been

children s parents cannot afford their child and their needs (especially education), they will send them
to ¨school¨. ¨Some parents in Senegal and neighboring countries who lack the money to bring up their
children, send them to Islamic schools, or daaras, in Dakar.¨ These schools send the children to the
streets and make them beg for money. They are also be abused, beaten, and even killed. The
conditions in which they stay in are horrendous and cause several of them to become sick. Until a ban
was put into place, this continue to happen and still does to this day. Only 12 teachers have been
known of being prosecuted for doing this, and many more are said to be still doing this to poor
defenseless children. In order to have better health among Senegal there must be better
communication and watching on the citizens and the government. The government seems to have little
control over many things, like Taalibe´s and you can see the lack of communication between the
citizens and government in Senegal. Organizations like the, ¨PPDH¨ have tried to stop this completely,
some have gotten rather far. If further acts are put into place to ensure the safety of the children and
their health, there will be Less likability to have children on the streets. Organizations like the Red
Cross are here to help those parents, providing shelter for those children and better health care, but
without the proper knowledge of these organizations in rural cities there is no way of these parents of
knowing. Providing information on organizations here to help may be better the chances of having the

The Nickel Electrode Batteries Are Vulnerable
The nickel electrode batteries are vulnerable to both reversible and irreversible degradation. The
reversible degradation forms can be rectified by fully discharging the cell and then recharging it. The
irreversible forms of degradation vary depending on the types of electrodes and the application of the
battery. However, the irreversible forms of degradation are majorly linked to the number and depth of
the discharge/recharge cycles and the operation temperatures. The primary causes of irreversible
degradation include the decomposition of the organic material into the electrolyte, corrosion of the
nickel electrode, dendrite formation on the surface of the negative electrolyte, electrode poisoning,
and the failure of the gas barrier. Additionally, the nickel electrode batteries are vulnerable to thermal
runaway, which can be described as a vicious cycle caused by heating and augmented discharge and
voltage. The batteries are also susceptible to gassing, which can lead to the buildup of pressure in the
cell that may lead to permanent battery damage. The batteries are also engrossed by a number of
safety and environmental concerns because they are manufactured using an extremely toxic metal
cadmium. However, the concerns have been lessened through regulation, keen monitoring during
manufacturing, and elevated recycling efficiencies. Currently, there are three major categories of the
nickel cadmium and nickel iron batteries; namely, vented sintered plate, pocket plate,

Economic Impact Of The Fossil Fuel Industry
4.3 ECONOMIC EFFECIENCY It is very difficult to replace the heavy capital invested in the fossil
fuel industry . Thus nations are several years away from decarbonisation. NETs are flexible mitigation
technologies allowing the use of existing energy infrastructure to meet increasing power demands
minus the resulting carbon emissions. One of the promising features of NETs such as CCS is its ability
to pull out the undesirable CO2 emissions, allowing the use of domestically available supplies of
fossil fuels . This can lead to huge cost savings. NETs such as bio char, AR, wetland restoration, SCS
and BECCS are estimated to be more cost effective than mitigation methods; some of them being
available at costs below $100/tC02 . These NETs ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Since 1890, industrialised countries have contributed 54.5% of the global GHG emissions due to
which emission reduction targets in the UNFCCC and the Kyoto protocol were based on the principle
of CBDR (common but differentiated responsibility) . Developed nations have been the major
contributors of cumulative emissions, but the developing nations are most likely to suffer its effects in
future; leading to a possible moral corruption in the form of delay in the research and deployment of
NETs by the industrialised nations . 5.2 CLIMATE CHANGE AND EQUITY If CO2 removal is to
become feasible climate policy, determining the differentiated climate responsibilities of states will be
as important as determining its expense and negative impacts . Ethical questions about justice and
consent with respect to control over C02 levels and other complex political issues will arise . Should
contribution to historic cumulative emissions, financial capabilities and access to advanced technology
be factors in determining differentiated responsibilities of nations towards NETs? Meeting the 1.5C or
2C target carries a threat of conflict regarding burden sharing . Hence clarity regarding the burden
sharing, distribution and other administrative and implementation issues related to these technologies

Haitian Communication History

history sets a contextual stage for the present linguistic state in Haiti. Furthermore, having an
understanding of the languages that have and do influence communication in Haiti is relevant to this
analysis because it helps to explain why services with no Haitian clinical crew members may need an
interpreter/translator and why communications are often in more than one language.

about the possibility of the Virginia Company coming back which in turn would threaten property
titles set after the company s end in 1624. Upon arrival Berkeley comforted the people that the
company would not come to be again which resulted in him gaining two houses and an orchard by a
grateful assembly. His reputation gained more height once he faced a threat on the colony from the
Powhatan Indians, who had delivered the lethal blow on the Virginia Company when they attacked the
colonists in 1622. Although after the second attack in 1644 Berkeley led a military force to squash the

Stephen T. Asma s Book On Monsters
There is such kind of monsters, remain their appearance as a human, yet the things they do can only
describe as monstrosities. They are not monsters in books and literature, a fear of unknown or sexual
desires. People were, or still are facing actual brutal violence or psychological terror from those
monsters. More importantly, the monster being talked here is one of our kind. They are human, yet

history, a dark past of humanity have been introduced as a monster. It is Khmer Rouge s infamous
security prison S21: the representation of the massacre took place in Cambodia in 20th century and
this kind of monster, unfortunately, is still relevant to the world, even till this day.
In just three years of its power in control, Pol Pot and Khmer Rouge turned the country of Cambodia
into a living hell. By 1976 approximately twenty five hundred prisoners had passed through the
bloody corridors of S21, and each year that followed saw increased numbers of tortured prisoners,
until they totaled around seventeen thousand by 1979, when the Vietnamese Army liberated Phnom
Penh. (8 Asma) Most prisoners brought to S21 was innocent, they were brought here only because
the people in power believe they were enemies of the revolution or associated with western culture.
Ironically, the torture chamber used to be a school. People associate hope and bright future with

Summary Of Upton Sinclair s The Jungle
Upon reading Upton Sinclair s book The Jungle, it can easily be seen that there were numerous
injustices occurring within the early 1900s Chicago government. He wrote the book in 1906 after
spending six months gathering research on the lives of poor, low class, immigrant families. With this
information, he published his first book, The Jungle, through which he displays the hardships a
immigrant family faces when they move to America. He chose the meat packing industry in the city of
Chicago as his backdrop for this story, and while the names of the characters are fictional, most of the
story is based on his real observations. He originally wrote the book trying to set forth the breaking of
human hearts by a system which exploits the labor of men and women for profit, but people took it the
wrong way, and Sinclair explained this misinterpretation when he says I aimed at the public s heart,
and by accident I hit it in the stomach. (NCBI) By this, he means that he wanted the American people
to see the plight of the immigrants but instead the general public was more upset by the unsanitary
condition of the meat they were ingesting. While Sinclair may not have achieved his original goal, his
book did in fact have a significant impact; an impact that still effects the American people of today. It
led to the creation of the Pure Food and Drugs Act of 1906 which is the predecessor to the modern day
FDA (Young 231) (US Food). The Jungle shows the corruption in the Chicago government through
the main character Jurgis and his trial, the raping of his wife Ona, and the unsanitary conditions in the
meat factories where he worked. Sinclair shows the corruption in the Chicago government through the
raping of Ona. Ona is the teenage wife of Jurgis, and just a few months after their wedding she is
raped by her own boss. When Jurgis demands a reason for why she was gone for an entire night, she
says He told me he would have me turned off. He told me he would we would all of us lose our
places. We could never get anything to do here again. He he meant it he would have ruined us
(Sinclair 109) Now this example would be good to describe the corruption both in the meat packing
factories, and in the government. While it

Romeo And Juliet Compare And Contrast Essay

The Contrast of the Parents and Child s Views on Marriage: Romeo and Juliet
Love is an intricate and complex emotion that has varying amounts of true affection. One might think
he is in love with someone, but once he meets a different person, he may change his affection.
Generally people agree that love is the highest form of affection, an emotion that produces deeply
happy feelings that few events can disrupt. This is true in Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet. Both
Romeo and Juliet are willing to die for their love of each other. Juliet originally wants nothing to do
with marriage or love, but as the play progresses, her new belief in love, and faithfulness, contrasts
with her parents and nurse s views.
In the beginning of the play, Juliet has no interest in marriage, but once she meets Romeo she falls
hopelessly in love. Romeo attends the Capulet party and sees Juliet. After he meets her and leaves, she
asks the nurse who he is. When she reveals that he is a Montague Juliet is devastated: My only love
sprung from my only hate! / Too early seen unknown, and known too late! / Prodigious birth of love it
is to me/ That I must love a loathed enemy (1.5.152 153). Love is a powerful emotion not easily
gained. For Juliet to say, My only love means that she believes Romeo is the first person she has truly
loved. To loathe someone is to hate him. Juliet s family is a sworn enemy of Romeo s and she is not
supposed to interact

related to Harry s decision in order to provide him accurate information so that he can make a wise
decision. Now, I would like to clarify the concept of acquisition, which is defined as the process
performed by a company when making operational control of another. The decision regarding the
acquisition is fundamental for the acquiring firm, therefore; it should be done after a proper research
and a deep analysis. In this case, the decision is taken faster than normal without an accurate
assessment. The cash flows and growth rate have been calculated based on a projected value made by
Mr Harry and Mr Jack. This is a wrong step since Harry could not take the Framingham s own

Goal Centered Theory, Cognitive Behavioral Theory And...
The aim of classroom management is to establish and maintain a positive, productive learning
environment that provides effective learning opportunities for its students. Therefore, it is crucial for
beginning teachers to understand the varying approaches to classroom management and their
theoretical underpinnings. Effective classroom management is an essential skill for any new teacher,
unfortunately many teachers will adopt traditional or authoritarian approaches rather than innovative
evidence based strategies (Fry, 2007). Additionally, a teacher s beliefs, attitudes and values will often
determine their classroom management strategy (Lyons, Ford Slee, 2014) and whether they adopt a
single theory, a combination of elements across multiple theories or continually adapt to their
classroom environment. Here, three classroom management approaches will be analysed; Goal
Centered Theory, Cognitive Behavioural Theory and Assertive Discipline.
Goal Centered Theory (GCT) is a classroom management theory proposed by Rudolf Dreikurs, an
Austrian psychiatrist and student of psychoeducational theory (Lyons, Ford, Slee, 2014). GCT has its
underpinnings in Vygotsky s socio cultural theory, that students are influenced by their social groups
and desire to belong (Woolfolk Margetts, 2010). This desire to belong motivates behaviour, often
negatively, through four subsequent stages; gaining attention inappropriately, exercising power,
exacting revenge, and displaying inadequacy. Within

Every mobile app development company is currently aspiring to reach a wider audience and obtain

It is actually hard to compare between email marketing and social media marketing, as they are

Enhanced publicity
Marketing via social media can help to foster business recognition. It provides awesome opportunities
for businesses to gain publicity, which is certainly profitable. Your social networking systems serve as
just new channels for your business voice and substance. This is imperative on the grounds that it
makes you recognized and even more available to new clients while making your business more
intimate and notable with existing clients.
For instance, a regular Twitter user who is interested in your services can get to know more of your
organization by simply stumbling across your ad in a newsfeed. On the other hand, a generally
indifferent client may get to be better familiarized with your organization in the wake of sighting your
social media presence on different platforms.
Promotes efficiency
Corresponding to a recent report released by Texas Tech University, businesses that connect with
social media channels experience higher unwavering dedication from their clients. The report
concluded by stating that business organizations ought to exploit social media tools made available to
them as regarding the matter of associating with the public. A crucial and direct social media policy

The methodological issues and challenges that are unique to a psychological research of effective
treatments for psychological disorders are to reduce the burden of mental illness and behavioral
disorders by improving the treatments. The importance of completing these goals is by developing and
improving the use of treatments. According to our text, single subject designs allows true experimental
control of the independent variables because its cause and effect conclusions can be fairly accurate

Evidence based practice is a research to practice gap that exists in which some practices shown are to
be effective by scientific research are seldom used on applied settings, but some commonly
implemented practices are not empirically validated and may be ineffective or even harmful (Cook et
al, 2012). To illustrate how evidence can be judged differently whether it adheres to the evidence
based approach or to the practice based approach, I have selected the social anxiety disorder.
According to a new study by researchers, cognitive behavior therapy (CBT) by itself is a more
effective long term treatment for social anxiety disorder than medication alone or a combination of the
two. Social anxiety disorder or social phobia is much more serious than social anxiety, which many
people deal with to some extent, especially when put in the spotlight. Social anxiety disorder is a
diagnosis for individuals who find it hard to function in social situations at all. For the study, the
researchers set out to analyze and compare the most recognized methods for treating social anxiety
disorders. Over 100 patients participated in the study and were divided into four groups. The first
group received only medication, the second group received only therapy, the third group received a
combination of the two, and the fourth received a placebo pill. During treatment and right

foolear The Wise Fool in Shakespeare s King Lear Essay
The Wise Fool in King Lear
Whether or not the role of the Fool is an important one within King Lear is arguable. Although he
seems to have great insight into much of the plays main events, he seems not to have any real
influence on both the plot as well as the outcome of the play. He remains the sole character who does
not have any direct link with the events of the plot, coupled with an unusually early exit; this raises the
question of his significance. However at the very least he does certainly serve as entertainment not
only for Lear but the audience as well, with his honesty, wittiness, and clever speeches that not only
adds to the light humour but also to show us that the Fool could indeed be perceived as being ... Show

However, we can see that when the Fool becomes too close to the raw truth Lear will warn him that he

Truth s a dog, that must to kennel: he must be whipped out, when the Lady Brach may stand by the
fire and stink.
Here the Fool warns Lear that his two daughters will have control over him due to his actions.
Although Lear doesn t want to hear the truth and therefore tries to avoid it, the Fool essentially forces
it out into the open through his speeches. He often uses comedic verses of saying to highlight the point
he is trying to put across. In addition to this, he also provides various rhymes and riddles, taking on
the role of a Chorus as a means of discussing the plays actions in a light hearted yet clearly stating the
essence of what is happening. For example, the following quotation sees the Fool referring to Lear s
actions concerning Cordelia:
...That man makes his toe
What he his heart should make,
Shall of a corn cry woe
And turn his sleep to wake
He refers to the way in which people may drive away those who they should love due to misplaced
affection and that this will ultimately cause a person much grief and sleeplessness. This refers to the
way he reacted when Cordelia failed to flatter him in his `love test. This suggest the Fool to be quite
wise to point this out, however it may be too

American Indian Identity
Throughout the book The Absolutely True Diary of a Part Time Indian , the author uses various
symbols, motifs, and themes to explore life on a native American reservation, through the eyes of a

circumstances. The book presented the various issues a young teenager living on the Spokane Indian

differ from todays violent protests. To understand King s views on nonviolent protest, I will start by
summarizing some of the main points in his Letter from Birmingham jail . In spite of the fact that the
Letter is verifiably worried with justice all through, King likewise addresses the question specifically
at a few focuses. In actuality, he places that justice maintains the poise of the human soul, while
injustice conflicts with it. By talking about this idea by and large, he builds up criteria by which to
obscurely assault both segregation and silence it. He at last suggests that the man who sees injustice
and does nothing to stop it is acting unjustly also. Taking after this thought, he contends that laws must
be permeated with an ethical sense so as to be just; as such, law and morality can not be viewed as
independent interests or areas. The best way to really enact change and help humankind rise above its
confinements is to act with as well as grasp extremism . According to Mott, That this action had been
termed extreme King admits initially disappointed him. But King decides that if loyalty to good
principles

October10, 2014 ENTRY 15 : Course Reflection
Reflect: This course never interested me. I really was never interested to take this course as there was
no need for it. I considered myself who could write well as needed in my job. For the field I am in, I
did not think I would need more than I already knew, rather I felt it was waste of time. For me to stay
focused and remain enthusiastic was the biggest challenge.
As I started doing this course , I began to enjoy little bit. I am a very practical, who likes to see things
and learn by doing. By writing different topics it helped me to develop my creative abilities. In a way,
the course has made me a deeper thinker than I used to be. I also look into grammar when I read. I
always thought I can write well as needed but I did not really had a sense of a proper process of
writing. There is more to it than writing and proofreading a rough draft as I thought before. Prewriting
has taught me to write my papers for nursing much more easily. This allows me more time to
proofread and check my facts. It also gives me some

The Life and Times of Sir Isaac Newton Essay
Sir Isaac Newton was born on January 4, 1643 (based on the Gregorian calendar) in Woolsthorpe,
Lincolnshire, England. Growing up, he was never really close to his parents because his biological
father died three months before he was born. Then, his mother remarried and left him to be raised by
his grandparents. It was not until 1661, when Newton started studying at Cambridge University, that
Newton took an interest in math and science. Then, in 1665, Newton was forced to go home because
of an epidemic outbreak. During his time away from school, Newton started studying optics, math,
and gravity. In addition, he started to create Calculus. Newton was allowed to return to Cambridge in
1667, and in 1669, he became a math professor. In ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A few scientists who lived just before Newton s life were Nicolaus Copernicus, Galileo Galilei, Robert
Hooke. Copernicus discovered the heliocentric theory. This idea was revolutionary because before his
theory, people believed that the sun revolved around the earth (geocentric theory). However,
Copernicus presented the theory that the earth revolved around the sun (heliocentric theory). Another
scientist, Galileo Galilei, created the first telescope. Thus, with his new invention, he was able to see
the Milky Way, features of the Moon, and Jupiter s moons. While observing Jupiter s moons, he saw
that the moons orbited around Jupiter, not earth. With this new information, he was able to disprove
the geocentric theory because Jupiter s moons did not orbit around Earth, but rather Jupiter. Galileo
also found that everything fell at the same speed. He tested this theory by dropping two balls (one
heavier and one lighter) off of the Leaning Tower of Pisa. They both hit the ground at the same time (
Astronomy and Space for Kids ). In addition, Galileo proposed the idea of inertia ( The Scientific
Revolution ). Robert Hooke was another notable scientist of that time. Hooke created the law of
elasticity. This law states that, the stretching of a solid body (e.g., metal, wood) is proportional to the
force applied to it (The Editors of Encyclopædia Britannica). Hooke also invented the Gregorian
reflecting telescope. Through this invention

Summary Of Lev Vygotsky
Russian psychologist, Lev Vygotsky, dedicated his studies to cognitive development. His theory, the
Social Constructivist, or Social Development Theory, stresses the importance of social influences,
especially through instruction, on children s cognitive development. This theory suggests that social
interaction and community play a large role in making meaning. Vygotsky displays his theory using
his Zone of Proximal Development, or ZPD. The Zone Proximal Development is a term used to
describe the range of tasks that are too difficult for a child to master alone, but can be learned with
guidance or assistance from adults or more skilled children. The lower limit of the Zone of Proximal
Development is the level reached by children when working by themselves, without assistance from
others. Contrary, the upper limit is the level in which tasks become too difficult for a child to work
independently, and additional help from a more skillful adult or peer is needed. The purpose of the
ZPD is to recognize where students lie in terms of ability of certain cognitive tasks and skills. It allows
monitoring of student progress using scaffolding. Scaffolding is a term that is used to describe the
level of support or guidance that is being offered to a student when learning a task. Scaffolding is a
large factor of Vygotsky s theory; when a child is learning a new task, the level of guidance from a
more skilled person is high, often through direct instruction. The child begins to

Descriptive Essay On Having A Dog
Dogs become vital to you, they are something you wouldn t ever give up. My dog, Carly has taught
me so many life lessons, even when she can t even talk. Likewise, She has taught to be a kind,
positive, selfless human being. Yes, having a dog may be challenging, stressful work, but in the end, it
s all worth it. Ever since I was a little girl I have always wanted a dog. When I was about three, my
cousins unexpectedly lost their chocolate lab, Bailey. I don t remember Bailey, but I do remember
when they brought home a yellow lab puppy named Tess. The moment I laid eyes on Tess, it sparked
something inside me and from that point on, I had a desire to one day have my own dog. I included a
dog on my Christmas and birthday lists for five years, but every year I was left with disappointment.
Nevertheless, my parents were warming up to the idea of having a dog, evaluating different breeds to
try and find a fit for our family. Eventually, my parents took us to look at dogs, but none of them
seemed to suit our needs. It was late afternoon on an enjoyable, mild June day at the baseball field. As
we commenced our journey home I realized we were headed in the wrong direction.
Where are we going? I asked, looking at my parents in confusion.
We are going to look at some puppies, Mom explained excitedly.
Realization dawned on me. We were getting a puppy! What kind of dog are we going to look at? I
questioned with excitement.
A cockapoo, stated Mom anxiously.

So what is it that makes this game win over millions? Is it the thrill of the game? Or is it the poker
chips we play with? To be honest it s a bit of both but probably the biggest factor that makes poker so
much fun is unpredictability. Of course if you re a math whiz you can increase your chances of
winning by working out the probability of your hand winning a round, but not all people are like Ben
Campbell, the mastermind in the movie 21 who cheated the system with his fast math calculations to
win big while gambling. So what makes you sure that your hand is going to win as compared to your
opponents? Well firstly if you have a high combination of cards then you win, that s how the game
goes. But sometimes you don t know whether your opponent has a higher combination of cards or is
he just bluffing. Well nobody can tell what your opponent has. You can only make an estimate of what
that person might possibly have. In order to do that you have to focus extremely carefully at every
move your opponent makes: from his eye movements to his betting. Every move should be monitored.
There are many ways poker players do that. The first thing they do when the first three cards are
turned is to increase the bet, regardless of the card combination one has. If someone folds then they
are automatically out of the picture for that round, but if someone calls then you can figure out that
that particular opponent has a

Russell On Denoting
On Denoting and Definite Descriptions: Russell s Puzzle Solutions In his work, On Denoting ,
Bertrand Russell proposes a theory of denoting and descriptions, which he summarizes as follows:
Everything, nothing, and something, are not assumed to have any meaning in isolation, but a meaning
is assigned to every proposition in which they occur. This is the principle of the theory of denoting I
wish to advocate: that denoting phrases never have any meaning in themselves, but that every
proposition in whose verbal expression they occur has a meaning. (480) Russell contends that the
difficulties concerning denoting are [...] all the result of a wrong analysis of propositions whose verbal
expressions contain denoting phrases (480). In ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In considering this puzzle, Russell first introduces the principle of the indiscernibility of identicals
(hereafter the indiscernibility principle), which states that [i]f a is identical to b, whatever is true of the
one is true of the other, and either may be substituted for the other in any proposition without altering
the truth or falsehood of that proposition (485). That is, two identical entities can be used
interchangeably in any statement without altering the truth value of the statement in question. Russell
then sets forth the proposition George VI wished to know whether Scott was the author of Waverly
and concludes that, since Scott was in fact the author of Waverly, one can replace the author of
Waverly with Scott and thereby prove that George VI wished to know whether Scott was Scott (485).
Under the indiscernibility principle, both propositions are true since the terms the author of Waverly
and Scott are identical and thus wholly substitutable for one another. However, while Russell finds the
first proposition to be true ( George VI wished to know whether Scott was the author of Waverly ),
Russell concludes that the second proposition, George VI wished to know whether Scott was Scott , is
false due to the fact that an interest in the law of identity can hardly be attributed to George VI (485).
Herein lies the Substitutivity Puzzle. The

Sole Proprietorship. In comparison and contrast, the liability exposure associated with the various
forms of business organizational structure is important to each business owner; before beginning their
business venture. The sole proprietor does not have to ask for anyone s permission, wait for votes or

autonomy and freedom from vicarious liability of co owners. In a sole proprietorship of the Tinker and
Taylor s Home Security Service, it is difficult to limit one s liability. In a sole proprietorship the owner
of the business is liable for all damages incurred and said owners personal assets are not protected

The sole proprietor and the business are one in the same with regard to liability. The sole

Lincoln and the Abolitionists Essay
LINCOLN AND THE ABOLITIONISTS
History records Abraham Lincoln as the Great Emancipator, yet ardent abolitionists of his day such as
William Lloyd Garrison viewed him with deep suspicion. That the 16th president eventually achieved
the abolitionists most cherished dream, says biographer Allen Guelzo, happened through a curious
combination of political maneuvering, personal conviction, and commitment to constitutional
principle.
One of the ironies of the Civil War era and the end of slavery in the United States has always been that
the man who played the role of the Great Emancipator was so hugely mistrusted and so energetically
vilified by the party of abolition. Abraham Lincoln, whatever his larger reputation as the liberator of

Lincoln s election did not mute abolitionist criticism. His unwillingness to use the outbreak of the

Garrison that Lincoln was unwittingly helping to prolong the war, and to render the result more and
more doubtful! If he is 6 feet 4 inches high, he is only a dwarf in mind! Garrison had never really
believed that Lincoln s Republicans had an issue with the South, and Lincoln himself did nothing once
elected to convince him otherwise. Frederick Douglass, who had parted fellowship with Garrison over
the issue of noninvolvement in politics, hoped for better from Lincoln, but only seemed to get more
disappointments. Lincoln s presidential inaugural, with its promise not to interfere with southern
slavery if the southern states attempted no violent withdrawal from the Union, left Douglass with no
very hopeful impression of Lincoln. If anything, Lincoln had only confirmed Douglass s worst fears,
and he flayed Lincoln as an itinerant Colonization lecturer, showing all his inconsistencies, his pride

Descriptive Essay On Studio Art
Pure imagination, flowing through a sound mind and sound soul; the basic creativity of human
expression. A visual form to which can be expressed in different medias consisting of both beauty and
emotional power. There are various branches of art, such as music, studio art, dance, culinary, and
literature. Studio art is something to which I take to heart, it s a branch I always seem to fall under. It s
simply been a part of my life since I was a kid; I would tend to walk around with a bag full of
crumpled up wads of paper and broken Crayola crayons just shoved into a small bag I bought from the
flea market, no matter where I was at I tended to be drawing anything that came to mind. It s a
beautiful thing which I ve used to define my perspective of how I view the world or just how I feel in
the world of such a vast majority where everyone is so similar in a way. The way that a brush or pencil
dances on a canvas or a sheet of paper just spreading its array of colors, in anyway of line, shape, and
form of movement just to achieve the concept through different types of mediums; is a
beautiful/miraculous sight, seeing the colors and patterns interlock forming this abstract or concrete
image is just stunning. I remember that brief moment where I wasn t creating art pieces due to a lack
of motivation yet all of that had changed when I moved schools; I had an awful art teacher when I was
in my old school (Mercedes High School), he had his favorites and when things didn t come out they
he wanted it you were sure to fail that class. My art pieces weren t the greatest he was so negative
about my techniques and the finished pieces, he never encouraged me or any other student. I had hated
art from that point on, yet when I moved schools I was still the same somewhat but this art teacher
changed me and made me become better a better artist, I began to love it all over again. He showed
me many new mediums, different types of paper/canvases, different brushes and he s taught me I
shouldn t just please the viewer, if i m happy with the outcome of the piece that s all that matters; if I
needed real criticism about my piece I should go to him, he ll critique my work and then he ll tell me
how to improve it or fix a

Rarr Essay
RAR, an abbreviation for Roshal Archive Compressed, is a compressed file, or data container that
contains some files and folders in it. File sharing websites and software distributors, at times, put their
data in a RAR file so that they can compress it to a smaller size at a later on stage, which would help
you to download the file faster than usual. These data are encrypted so that its contents are not visible
to other people. Most of the RAR files are not password protected, like files containing images,
documents, videos, etc. RAR files are handy when you need to download a vast amount of pictures or
videos, as instead of downloading each photo or video, one by one, you can download all of them at
once, by downloading the RAR file.

Essay on Monsters Inc
Monsters Inc. is an incredible animated movie (by Pixar Studios, 2001, and directed by Pete Doctor)
about monsters working in a scare factory. Proudly, the scare factory a pillar in the community is a
workplace in a monster world where monsters scare children. Through a high tech system, doors are
brought to the factory that, if activated, allows the monsters to enter the child s room through the
youngster s closet. The scream produced by the child creates energy for the monster world, so that
monsters can do everyday things, such as quickly turning on a light or vacuuming the carpet.
However, this is not an easy job because children are extremely toxic to monsters (who tremble when
a child is near), and are also becoming increasingly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, if the conflict was, All of the sudden, grandma s laundry flew off the line , the reader
would probably lose interest in the story unless he or she was a launderer or happened to be grandma.

For this essay of critique, however, the conflict unfortunately is, One day, a child stepped out through

but it is advisable to keep reading, for one cannot always judge a story by its conflict.) One day, a
child stepped out through the door. It was all an accident, because Sulley spotted a door that he
thought was mistakenly left on, and he opened it to check if there were any monsters inside. Strangely
there were not, but when he closed the door and turned around to leave, a human child, who was a tiny
girl, was taking a ride on his tail! Sulley panicked, and tried to get rid of her, but she was more
dexterous then he. What could Sulley do?!? Panting, Sulley ran to his pal Mike, and they both tried to

Enterprise Rent A Car Is A Private Company
When a company requires funs, they usually do so in a form of a bond or a stock, for Enterprise

Neighborhood Episode 2
Community emergency preparedness and response is dependent on the willingness of communities to
prepare in advance and to respond to instructions as events unfold (Scutchfiled Keck, 2009, p. 564).
An emergency can be anything from a pandemic of influenza to a natural disaster that causes
disruption of access to health care in a community (Scutchfiled Keck, 2009, p. 564), such as the forest
fire that has occurred in The Neighborhood TM Season 2 Episode 5 (Neighborhood, 2014). This
certain forest fire impacted the entire community, particularly those who have respiratory problems;
we are going to look at how it specifically impacted the hospital, senior center, the school, and the
Bley household. The impact the health care workers and the public health care teams had on the
response of the community in this state of emergency. Summary of Events in the Neighborhood and
Response of Health Care Workers Overview of the Neighborhood, Hospital, and Senior Center The
Neighborhood is home to 64,200 people, the majority of them being older than 60 (Neighborhood,

Southwest A Success Story Of Organizational Change
Southwest a Success Story in Organizational Change
Why is it that when organizations announce upcoming changes to their employees they are rarely
excited about it? You do not see them jovially discussing what is going to happen next, and/or how
these changes are going to make their organization better. No, none of this is happening. Most of them
are worried and wondering how these changes will affect them, and what their roles are going to be.
This mindset makes organizational change difficult. Society in general just does not like change, nor
are they comfortable with it.
Therefore, when an organization can successfully implement change, people notice and researchers
want to study them. They do this so they can formulate a change theory and teach it to other
organizations that are experiencing the same situation(s). One company that has continually evolved,
made changes, and has been successful at it is Southwest Airlines. How have Southwest Airlines been
so successful, what was their core strategy, and what part has their differentiation strategy played in
their success?
Air Southwest was incorporated on March 15, 1967 (1966 to 1971, 2016), at a time when price
competition from interstate competitors was ferocious (Heskett Sasser, 2013, p. 3). However, Rollin
King one of Southwest original founders had an idea that would shake things up. While having a
couple of drinks with his friend Herb Kelleher, he scribbled is point to point triangular service idea

The diuretic activity of Silybum Mariamum L. was higher than that of furosemide or Cistus
landaniferus L. In addition, both plants increased urinary excretion of sodium, potassium and
creatinine and the effect of Silybum marianum L. was higher than that of furosemide or Cistus
landaniferus L.. Interestingly, both plants did not cause changes in the plasma sodium or potassium
while furosemide caused hypokalemia. These findings are important since both plants might have a
potential to be used as a future diuretics without hypokalemia which is a common finding with use of
current diuretics such loop diuretics or hydrochlorothiazide. Because there was no effect of the plants`
extract on plasma electrolytes and plasma osmolarity, it might be suggested that the active principle(s)
in both plants may has/have a potassium sparing effect. Furthermore, both plants increased creatinine
clearance and studying their effect in kidney failure might explore their potential to help increasing
creatinine clearance or ameliorating acute/chronic kidney

Do you agree with the view that the British Public’s...
Do you agree with the view that the British Public s enthusiasm for the Empire increased during the
Second Boer War (1899 1902)? Explain your answer using sources 4, 5, and 6 and your own
knowledge. The Second Boer War was a landmark in British imperial history because of its impact on
British politics, society and military tactics. The Second Boer War led to drastic reforms amongst the
military and amongst the people as the Conservative party was removed from power by the Liberal
party in the post war election of 1906. However, enthusiasm for the war at the time was quite high;
patriotism amongst the British was a cause of much of the support the government at the time received
during the war. But did it increase or decrease, and why? ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This lack of support became apparent in the 1906 general election in which the Conservative
government (Whom had been in control of the Empire during the Boer War.) was ousted in a landslide
defeat by the Liberal party. This was mainly because of the war and the effects it had on Britain. The
public had been outraged at British tactics during the Second Boer War. Especially that of
concentration camps, scorched earth tactics, the poisoning of wells and the burning of Boer
homesteads. Therefore, the transition from a conventional to a guerrilla war caused a loss in
enthusiasm amongst the British people for the Second Boer war. In conclusion, I somewhat agree that
enthusiasm for the Empire increased during the Second Boer War, however, I only believe that
enthusiasm increased as the early stages of the war progressed, but as soon as it transitioned from a
conventional war to a guerrilla war, enthusiasm decreased as casualties and costs increased along with
the brutal tactics used by the British in their attempts to combat the Boers strategy. The loss of
enthusiasm can be attributed to other things, for example, the discovery that 40% of Britons were unfit
for military service revealed how poor public health in Britain was at the time and how the laissez
faire attitude of the Conservative government contributed to it. But overall I believe that the loss of
enthusiasm can mainly be attributed to the actual war

Applying And Choosing A Place Of Higher Education Essay
As childhood comfort slowly slips away when children transition from elementary, middle, to high
school, the idea that seemed so fantastical in toddlers daydreams becomes concrete and frightening:
the future. High school students are presented with a short four year period to decide what they want
to pursue, and the junior year of high school is where most students are hit hardest. As a junior, the
daunting task of preparing for one s future is suddenly presented, and everything one has
accomplished in life, in combination with many standardized tests, will be assembled to do one task:
applying and choosing a place of higher education. Three important criteria in college searching are
admission standards, location, and athletic programs, and two post high school institutions, Rice
University and the University of California Berkeley, will be compared based on these aspects. As a
primary benchmark, the admission standards for a university will need to be evaluated in order to
decide if a college is suitable for one s academic rigor. Admission standards for Rice University
consist of either the SAT and two SAT Subject Tests in fields related to their proposed area of study, or
the ACT Plus Writing test ( Standardized Testing ) in addition to: a high school transcript, the
Common Application with Rice Writing Supplement, $75 dollar application fee, a counselor
recommendation, one teacher recommendation, and midyear grades from senior year; the office of

The Care Of A Patient
Within this case study I am going to use two of the Chapelhow et al. (2005) enablers to discuss and
reflect on the care of a patient I have been involved with on placement over a period of 5 weeks.
Enablers are the essential and underpinning skills that come together to provide expert professional
practice (Chapelhow, C et al. 2005, p.2). These include; assessment, communication, documentation,
risk, professional decision making and managing uncertainty. The enablers work together to provide a
holistic approach to the care of patients in health care settings. I am going to focus on and discuss two
of the enablers, linking them both together, which will be assessment and communication as I believe
these two enablers can be related most to my patient. I have gained full consent to use this lady as my
patient in my care study. Consent is important as you must always gain permission from the patient in
regards to their care plan and keep them fully informed. It is vital that the person consents before any
treatment, care, examination or assessment (Brooker et al., 2007, p.157). Confidentiality is a
fundamental part of professional practice that protects human rights (NMC, 2008). To maintain my
patient s confidentiality throughout my care study I am going to call her Annie. Annie is a 72 year old
lady whose care I have been involved with on placement. Annie s medical history included; previous

  • 2. The Positive Effects Of Employment On Lowering Recidivism Much research has been done regarding the positive effect employment has on lowering recidivism. However, little research has been done to determine the effect a criminal record, including registration as a sex offender, has on finding gainful employment. Holzer s 1996 study (as cited by Johnson, 2006) found that two thirds of employers in major cities would avoid hiring known ex offenders, indicating that regardless of public policies that may make finding employment difficult, ex offenders ultimately still have to overcome the social stigma of their criminal histories. Negative community attitudes towards criminal history are even worse for those who are registered sex offenders (Willis, Levenson, Ward, 2010). With the addition of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, the researchers also found that the unemployment rate among released offenders was over six times higher than that of the general population at the time of the study in 2009. Furthermore, the unemployment rate among ex offenders within nine months of release from prison was between 92 97 percent. Potential Barriers to Employment Unemployment can be especially hard to tackle when a limited number of fields are open to those who are looking for jobs. A 1998 Bureau of Justice Statisitcs Report (as quoted by Travis, Solomon, Waul, 2001) found that a number of fields were off limits to ex offenders looking for work, including law, real estate, medicine, nursing, physical therapy, and education . Released sex offenders may face further restrictions in which fields they may enter depending on the stipulations of their release. Johnson (2006) notes that due to internet usage restrictions, some released sex offenders are not able to perform jobs that require use of the internet. Such restrictions may severely limit the job opportunities for ex offenders. Once an ex offender finds a field in which they can work, they can be subject to further scrutiny through the use of criminal background checks by hiring managers. Nally, et al. (2014) noted a number of studies showing that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Red Cross Culture In America Senegal, a culture filled country, suffers greatly from poverty, meaning that many families may not be able to afford or have ways of getting knowledge of health care that could potentially save their lives. The red cross is one of the many organizations that provide assistance throughout Senegal, however, not everyone knows or has accesses to the Red Cross. Communication varies throughout Senegal bringing with it several life threatening things happening in Senegal including, street children, diseases, and cultural activities that is extremely dangerous for Senegalese citizens. Further acts should be put into place to provide all Senegalese people with information and ways of health care. The health in Senegal varies throughout rural and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In recent graphs and charts, there has been results of decreased poverty, this is great news for Senegal! Taalibe, or street children, Used to be found all over Senegal cities until recent bands that have been placed to where adolescents can no longer do this. You may ask, What are street children? When a children s parents cannot afford their child and their needs (especially education), they will send them to ¨school¨. ¨Some parents in Senegal and neighboring countries who lack the money to bring up their children, send them to Islamic schools, or daaras, in Dakar.¨ These schools send the children to the streets and make them beg for money. They are also be abused, beaten, and even killed. The conditions in which they stay in are horrendous and cause several of them to become sick. Until a ban was put into place, this continue to happen and still does to this day. Only 12 teachers have been known of being prosecuted for doing this, and many more are said to be still doing this to poor defenseless children. In order to have better health among Senegal there must be better communication and watching on the citizens and the government. The government seems to have little control over many things, like Taalibe´s and you can see the lack of communication between the citizens and government in Senegal. Organizations like the, ¨PPDH¨ have tried to stop this completely, some have gotten rather far. If further acts are put into place to ensure the safety of the children and their health, there will be Less likability to have children on the streets. Organizations like the Red Cross are here to help those parents, providing shelter for those children and better health care, but without the proper knowledge of these organizations in rural cities there is no way of these parents of knowing. Providing information on organizations here to help may be better the chances of having the street children, less child ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Nickel Electrode Batteries Are Vulnerable The nickel electrode batteries are vulnerable to both reversible and irreversible degradation. The reversible degradation forms can be rectified by fully discharging the cell and then recharging it. The irreversible forms of degradation vary depending on the types of electrodes and the application of the battery. However, the irreversible forms of degradation are majorly linked to the number and depth of the discharge/recharge cycles and the operation temperatures. The primary causes of irreversible degradation include the decomposition of the organic material into the electrolyte, corrosion of the nickel electrode, dendrite formation on the surface of the negative electrolyte, electrode poisoning, and the failure of the gas barrier. Additionally, the nickel electrode batteries are vulnerable to thermal runaway, which can be described as a vicious cycle caused by heating and augmented discharge and voltage. The batteries are also susceptible to gassing, which can lead to the buildup of pressure in the cell that may lead to permanent battery damage. The batteries are also engrossed by a number of safety and environmental concerns because they are manufactured using an extremely toxic metal cadmium. However, the concerns have been lessened through regulation, keen monitoring during manufacturing, and elevated recycling efficiencies. Currently, there are three major categories of the nickel cadmium and nickel iron batteries; namely, vented sintered plate, pocket plate, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Economic Impact Of The Fossil Fuel Industry 4.3 ECONOMIC EFFECIENCY It is very difficult to replace the heavy capital invested in the fossil fuel industry . Thus nations are several years away from decarbonisation. NETs are flexible mitigation technologies allowing the use of existing energy infrastructure to meet increasing power demands minus the resulting carbon emissions. One of the promising features of NETs such as CCS is its ability to pull out the undesirable CO2 emissions, allowing the use of domestically available supplies of fossil fuels . This can lead to huge cost savings. NETs such as bio char, AR, wetland restoration, SCS and BECCS are estimated to be more cost effective than mitigation methods; some of them being available at costs below $100/tC02 . These NETs ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Since 1890, industrialised countries have contributed 54.5% of the global GHG emissions due to which emission reduction targets in the UNFCCC and the Kyoto protocol were based on the principle of CBDR (common but differentiated responsibility) . Ethical questions about justice and consent with respect to control over C02 levels and other complex political issues will arise . Should contribution to historic cumulative emissions, financial capabilities and access to advanced technology be factors in determining differentiated responsibilities of nations towards NETs? A Brief History of Spanish, French, Haitian, and Other Languages in Haiti The following history sets a contextual stage for the present linguistic state in Haiti. Furthermore, having an understanding of the languages that have and do influence communication in Haiti is relevant to this analysis because it helps to explain why services with no Haitian clinical crew members may need an interpreter/translator and why communications are often in more than one language. They are not monsters in books and literature, a fear of unknown or sexual desires. People were, or still are facing actual brutal violence or psychological terror from those monsters. More importantly, the monster being talked here is one of our kind. They are human, yet described as inhuman , under the inhuman category of Stephen T. In just three years of its power in control, Pol Pot and Khmer Rouge turned the country of Cambodia into a living hell. By 1976 approximately twenty five hundred prisoners had passed through the bloody corridors of S21, and each year that followed saw increased numbers of tortured prisoners, until they totaled around seventeen thousand by 1979, when the Vietnamese Army liberated Phnom Penh. • 9. Summary Of Upton Sinclair s The Jungle Upon reading Upton Sinclair s book The Jungle, it can easily be seen that there were numerous injustices occurring within the early 1900s Chicago government. He wrote the book in 1906 after spending six months gathering research on the lives of poor, low class, immigrant families. With this information, he published his first book, The Jungle, through which he displays the hardships a immigrant family faces when they move to America. He chose the meat packing industry in the city of Chicago as his backdrop for this story, and while the names of the characters are fictional, most of the story is based on his real observations. He originally wrote the book trying to set forth the breaking of human hearts by a system which exploits the labor of men and women for profit, but people took it the wrong way, and Sinclair explained this misinterpretation when he says I aimed at the public s heart, and by accident I hit it in the stomach. (NCBI) By this, he means that he wanted the American people to see the plight of the immigrants but instead the general public was more upset by the unsanitary condition of the meat they were ingesting. While Sinclair may not have achieved his original goal, his book did in fact have a significant impact; an impact that still effects the American people of today. It led to the creation of the Pure Food and Drugs Act of 1906 which is the predecessor to the modern day FDA (Young 231) (US Food). The Jungle shows the corruption in the Chicago government through the main character Jurgis and his trial, the raping of his wife Ona, and the unsanitary conditions in the meat factories where he worked. Sinclair shows the corruption in the Chicago government through the raping of Ona. Ona is the teenage wife of Jurgis, and just a few months after their wedding she is raped by her own boss. When Jurgis demands a reason for why she was gone for an entire night, she says He told me he would have me turned off. He told me he would we would all of us lose our places. We could never get anything to do here again. He he meant it he would have ruined us (Sinclair 109) Now this example would be good to describe the corruption both in the meat packing factories, and in the government. While it ... • 10. Romeo And Juliet Compare And Contrast Essay Jack Major Mr. Holland English 1 2CP 28 May 2015 The Contrast of the Parents and Child s Views on Marriage: Romeo and Juliet Love is an intricate and complex emotion that has varying amounts of true affection. One might think he is in love with someone, but once he meets a different person, he may change his affection. Generally people agree that love is the highest form of affection, an emotion that produces deeply happy feelings that few events can disrupt. This is true in Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet. Both Romeo and Juliet are willing to die for their love of each other. Juliet originally wants nothing to do with marriage or love, but as the play progresses, her new belief in love, and faithfulness, contrasts with her parents and nurse s views. In the beginning of the play, Juliet has no interest in marriage, but once she meets Romeo she falls hopelessly in love. Romeo attends the Capulet party and sees Juliet. After he meets her and leaves, she asks the nurse who he is. When she reveals that he is a Montague Juliet is devastated: My only love sprung from my only hate! / Too early seen unknown, and known too late! / Prodigious birth of love it is to me/ That I must love a loathed enemy (1.5.152 153). Love is a powerful emotion not easily gained. For Juliet to say, My only love means that she believes Romeo is the first person she has truly loved. To loathe someone is to hate him. The purpose of this memo is to evaluate and analyze the risk associated with Harry s proposal. In this memo, I will discuss the potential consequences of a mistake related to Harry s decision in order to provide him accurate information so that he can make a wise decision. Now, I would like to clarify the concept of acquisition, which is defined as the process performed by a company when making operational control of another. The decision regarding the acquisition is fundamental for the acquiring firm, therefore; it should be done after a proper research and a deep analysis. In this case, the decision is taken faster than normal without an accurate assessment. The cash flows and growth rate have been calculated based on a projected value made by Mr Harry and Mr Jack. This is a wrong step since Harry could not take the Framingham s own estimate; he needs to make a self evaluation. • 14. Goal Centered Theory, Cognitive Behavioral Theory And... The aim of classroom management is to establish and maintain a positive, productive learning environment that provides effective learning opportunities for its students. Therefore, it is crucial for beginning teachers to understand the varying approaches to classroom management and their theoretical underpinnings. Effective classroom management is an essential skill for any new teacher, unfortunately many teachers will adopt traditional or authoritarian approaches rather than innovative evidence based strategies (Fry, 2007). Additionally, a teacher s beliefs, attitudes and values will often determine their classroom management strategy (Lyons, Ford Slee, 2014) and whether they adopt a single theory, a combination of elements across multiple theories or continually adapt to their classroom environment. Here, three classroom management approaches will be analysed; Goal Centered Theory, Cognitive Behavioural Theory and Assertive Discipline. Goal Centered Theory (GCT) is a classroom management theory proposed by Rudolf Dreikurs, an Austrian psychiatrist and student of psychoeducational theory (Lyons, Ford, Slee, 2014). GCT has its underpinnings in Vygotsky s socio cultural theory, that students are influenced by their social groups and desire to belong (Woolfolk Margetts, 2010). This desire to belong motivates behaviour, often negatively, through four subsequent stages; gaining attention inappropriately, exercising power, exacting revenge, and displaying inadequacy. • 19. foolear The Wise Fool in Shakespeare s King Lear Essay The Wise Fool in King Lear Whether or not the role of the Fool is an important one within King Lear is arguable. Although he seems to have great insight into much of the plays main events, he seems not to have any real influence on both the plot as well as the outcome of the play. He remains the sole character who does not have any direct link with the events of the plot, coupled with an unusually early exit; this raises the question of his significance. However at the very least he does certainly serve as entertainment not only for Lear but the audience as well, with his honesty, wittiness, and clever speeches that not only adds to the light humour but also to show us that the Fool could indeed be perceived as being ... Here the Fool warns Lear that his two daughters will have control over him due to his actions. Although Lear doesn t want to hear the truth and therefore tries to avoid it, the Fool essentially forces it out into the open through his speeches. Letter From Birmingham Jail And Nonviolent Protests Essay Letter from Birmingham jail and Nonviolent Protests In Martin Luther King Jr s Letter from Birmingham jail , King talks about his imprisonment for his involvement in a nonviolent protest and defends his rights and moral grounds for organizing nonviolent protest activities. In this essay, I will look at his views on nonviolent protest and how they differ from todays violent protests. To understand King s views on nonviolent protest, I will start by summarizing some of the main points in his Letter from Birmingham jail . In spite of the fact that the Letter is verifiably worried with justice all through, King likewise addresses the question specifically at a few focuses. In actuality, he places that justice maintains the poise of the human soul, while injustice conflicts with it. By talking about this idea by and large, he builds up criteria by which to obscurely assault both segregation and silence it. He at last suggests that the man who sees injustice and does nothing to stop it is acting unjustly also. Taking after this thought, he contends that laws must be permeated with an ethical sense so as to be just; as such, law and morality can not be viewed as independent interests or areas. The best way to really enact change and help humankind rise above its confinements is to act with as well as grasp extremism . A few scientists who lived just before Newton s life were Nicolaus Copernicus, Galileo Galilei, Robert Hooke. Copernicus discovered the heliocentric theory. This idea was revolutionary because before his theory, people believed that the sun revolved around the earth (geocentric theory). However, Copernicus presented the theory that the earth revolved around the sun (heliocentric theory). Another scientist, Galileo Galilei, created the first telescope. Thus, with his new invention, he was able to see the Milky Way, features of the Moon, and Jupiter s moons. While observing Jupiter s moons, he saw that the moons orbited around Jupiter, not earth. With this new information, he was able to disprove the geocentric theory because Jupiter s moons did not orbit around Earth, but rather Jupiter. Galileo also found that everything fell at the same speed. He tested this theory by dropping two balls (one heavier and one lighter) off of the Leaning Tower of Pisa. They both hit the ground at the same time ( Astronomy and Space for Kids ). In addition, Galileo proposed the idea of inertia ( The Scientific Revolution ). Robert Hooke was another notable scientist of that time. Hooke created the law of elasticity. • 24. Summary Of Lev Vygotsky Russian psychologist, Lev Vygotsky, dedicated his studies to cognitive development. His theory, the Social Constructivist, or Social Development Theory, stresses the importance of social influences, especially through instruction, on children s cognitive development. This theory suggests that social interaction and community play a large role in making meaning. Vygotsky displays his theory using his Zone of Proximal Development, or ZPD. The Zone Proximal Development is a term used to describe the range of tasks that are too difficult for a child to master alone, but can be learned with guidance or assistance from adults or more skilled children. The lower limit of the Zone of Proximal Development is the level reached by children when working by themselves, without assistance from others. Contrary, the upper limit is the level in which tasks become too difficult for a child to work independently, and additional help from a more skillful adult or peer is needed. The purpose of the ZPD is to recognize where students lie in terms of ability of certain cognitive tasks and skills. It allows monitoring of student progress using scaffolding. Scaffolding is a term that is used to describe the level of support or guidance that is being offered to a student when learning a task. Scaffolding is a large factor of Vygotsky s theory; when a child is learning a new task, the level of guidance from a more skilled person is high, often through direct instruction. Is it the thrill of the game? Or is it the poker chips we play with? To be honest it s a bit of both but probably the biggest factor that makes poker so much fun is unpredictability. Of course if you re a math whiz you can increase your chances of winning by working out the probability of your hand winning a round, but not all people are like Ben Campbell, the mastermind in the movie 21 who cheated the system with his fast math calculations to win big while gambling. So what makes you sure that your hand is going to win as compared to your opponents? Well firstly if you have a high combination of cards then you win, that s how the game goes. But sometimes you don t know whether your opponent has a higher combination of cards or is he just bluffing. Well nobody can tell what your opponent has. You can only make an estimate of what that person might possibly have. In order to do that you have to focus extremely carefully at every move your opponent makes: from his eye movements to his betting. Every move should be monitored. There are many ways poker players do that. The first thing they do when the first three cards are turned is to increase the bet, regardless of the card combination one has. If someone folds then they are automatically out of the picture for that round, but if someone calls then you can figure out that that particular opponent has a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 37. Russell On Denoting On Denoting and Definite Descriptions: Russell s Puzzle Solutions In his work, On Denoting , Bertrand Russell proposes a theory of denoting and descriptions, which he summarizes as follows: Everything, nothing, and something, are not assumed to have any meaning in isolation, but a meaning is assigned to every proposition in which they occur. This is the principle of the theory of denoting I wish to advocate: that denoting phrases never have any meaning in themselves, but that every proposition in whose verbal expression they occur has a meaning. (480) Russell contends that the difficulties concerning denoting are [...] all the result of a wrong analysis of propositions whose verbal expressions contain denoting phrases (480). In ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In considering this puzzle, Russell first introduces the principle of the indiscernibility of identicals (hereafter the indiscernibility principle), which states that [i]f a is identical to b, whatever is true of the one is true of the other, and either may be substituted for the other in any proposition without altering the truth or falsehood of that proposition (485). That is, two identical entities can be used interchangeably in any statement without altering the truth value of the statement in question. Russell then sets forth the proposition George VI wished to know whether Scott was the author of Waverly and concludes that, since Scott was in fact the author of Waverly, one can replace the author of Waverly with Scott and thereby prove that George VI wished to know whether Scott was Scott (485). Under the indiscernibility principle, both propositions are true since the terms the author of Waverly and Scott are identical and thus wholly substitutable for one another. However, while Russell finds the first proposition to be true ( George VI wished to know whether Scott was the author of Waverly ), Russell concludes that the second proposition, George VI wished to know whether Scott was Scott , is false due to the fact that an interest in the law of identity can hardly be attributed to George VI (485). Herein lies the Substitutivity Puzzle. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Lincoln and the Abolitionists Essay LINCOLN AND THE ABOLITIONISTS History records Abraham Lincoln as the Great Emancipator, yet ardent abolitionists of his day such as William Lloyd Garrison viewed him with deep suspicion. That the 16th president eventually achieved the abolitionists most cherished dream, says biographer Allen Guelzo, happened through a curious combination of political maneuvering, personal conviction, and commitment to constitutional principle. One of the ironies of the Civil War era and the end of slavery in the United States has always been that the man who played the role of the Great Emancipator was so hugely mistrusted and so energetically vilified by the party of abolition. A visual form to which can be expressed in different medias consisting of both beauty and emotional power. There are various branches of art, such as music, studio art, dance, culinary, and literature. Studio art is something to which I take to heart, it s a branch I always seem to fall under. It s simply been a part of my life since I was a kid; I would tend to walk around with a bag full of crumpled up wads of paper and broken Crayola crayons just shoved into a small bag I bought from the flea market, no matter where I was at I tended to be drawing anything that came to mind. It s a beautiful thing which I ve used to define my perspective of how I view the world or just how I feel in the world of such a vast majority where everyone is so similar in a way. The way that a brush or pencil dances on a canvas or a sheet of paper just spreading its array of colors, in anyway of line, shape, and form of movement just to achieve the concept through different types of mediums; is a beautiful/miraculous sight, seeing the colors and patterns interlock forming this abstract or concrete image is just stunning. I remember that brief moment where I wasn t creating art pieces due to a lack of motivation yet all of that had changed when I moved schools; I had an awful art teacher when I was in my old school (Mercedes High School), he had his favorites and when things didn t come out they he wanted it you were sure to fail that class. My art pieces weren t the greatest he was so negative about my techniques and the finished pieces, he never encouraged me or any other student. I had hated art from that point on, yet when I moved schools I was still the same somewhat but this art teacher changed me and made me become better a better artist, I began to love it all over again. He showed me many new mediums, different types of paper/canvases, different brushes and he s taught me I shouldn t just please the viewer, if i m happy with the outcome of the piece that s all that matters; if I needed real criticism about my piece I should go to him, he ll critique my work and then he ll tell me how to improve it or fix a ... You do not see them jovially discussing what is going to happen next, and/or how these changes are going to make their organization better. No, none of this is happening. Most of them are worried and wondering how these changes will affect them, and what their roles are going to be. This mindset makes organizational change difficult. Society in general just does not like change, nor are they comfortable with it. Therefore, when an organization can successfully implement change, people notice and researchers want to study them. Explain your answer using sources 4, 5, and 6 and your own knowledge. The Second Boer War was a landmark in British imperial history because of its impact on British politics, society and military tactics. The Second Boer War led to drastic reforms amongst the military and amongst the people as the Conservative party was removed from power by the Liberal party in the post war election of 1906. However, enthusiasm for the war at the time was quite high; patriotism amongst the British was a cause of much of the support the government at the time received during the war. This lack of support became apparent in the 1906 general election in which the Conservative government (Whom had been in control of the Empire during the Boer War.) was ousted in a landslide defeat by the Liberal party. This was mainly because of the war and the effects it had on Britain. The public had been outraged at British tactics during the Second Boer War. Especially that of concentration camps, scorched earth tactics, the poisoning of wells and the burning of Boer homesteads. Therefore, the transition from a conventional to a guerrilla war caused a loss in enthusiasm amongst the British people for the Second Boer war. In conclusion, I somewhat agree that enthusiasm for the Empire increased during the Second Boer War, however, I only believe that enthusiasm increased as the early stages of the war progressed, but as soon as it transitioned from a conventional war to a guerrilla war, enthusiasm decreased as casualties and costs increased along with the brutal tactics used by the British in their attempts to combat the Boers strategy. The loss of enthusiasm can be attributed to other things, for example, the discovery that 40% of Britons were unfit for military service revealed how poor public health in Britain was at the time and how the laissez faire attitude of the Conservative government contributed to it. But overall I believe that the loss of enthusiasm can mainly be attributed to the actual war ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
