Review of Culture Jam by Kalle Lasn
The advertising culture is having a devastating effect on our agendas of
becoming the media s ideal of perfection, and behind all of this self sacrifice the
media and corporations are the ones succeeding, not us. In Culture Jam, by Kale
Lasn, the founder of Adbusters magazine, he attempts to show the reader what our
mass media has been doing subliminally.
When the average American thinks of consumerism, we believe it is the promotion
of the consumer s interests. What Lasn believes is that we re being told what our
interests are and to buy into those false interests. We ve become disconnected with
ourselves and our own interests to fit those that our corporations have designed for
us. He uses an example of taking your ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Have we lost all self in media?
When I first picked this book up for class, I decided it would be a
great read. Something that would challenge my concrete thoughts and turn them into
better ideas. It has, to an extent. I could relate to almost each and every example
Lasn has discussed, but I saw no conclusion at any point. Normally when we, as
thoughtful humans, are so adiment about a topic, we like to clarify a quick solution,
even if we don t fully discuss the outcome or dive into detail. He offered this
wonderful insight into the making of our modern day psyches, yet left me hanging for
a solution. Almost like the entire subject where he on how the television media
leaves you emotionless after you ve been sucked into a sitcom, and left to fend for
yourself afterwards.
While I believe that we have become disassociated with our true
selves as primitive beings and that most of us couldn t fend for ourselves in the wild
(without media to keep us sane) if our lives depended on it, i still feel that not all
technology is a negative force. Being able to have predicted forecasts and knowing
if we re having a war outside of our homes is a vital part of surviving in our world
currently, and without those advances, we could easily perish. What my solution would be to
this problem is having a healthy equilibriem between

The Importance Of Education In High School
From a young age, I have always been encouraged by my parents to take advantage of every
educational opportunity that I could. My mother was the first in her family to go to college, and my
father was educationally gifted from his youth, so they instilled their beliefs of the importance of
education in me. In the third grade, I was accepted into the Center Based Gifted (CBG) program, and
was surrounded with other educationally driven people from that time until I graduated from middle
school. From there on, I applied for several specialty centers in my county, which closely resemble
colleges in their application processes and the emphasis on certain fields of academia. The Math and
Science High School at Clover Hill was the most fitting program for me and I was a part of the
competitively academic program offered there for all of high school. As my education has always been
a major part of my life, college was a given post high school plan for me. The struggle from there
became deciding which college best fit my personal academic needs. The house I grew up in was
surrounded by modest wooded areas, ideal for exploring, and had a small creek running through it. In
reality, the creek was a sewage ditch, but to me it was where I fell in love with biology and marine
life. I was fortunate enough to spend my childhood knee deep in water, exploring the tiny tadpoles,
crayfish, newts, lizards, and minnows that found their home in the creek. Experiencing the life cycle

How Does Hippolytus Tell The Truth
Since Hippolytus now knows of her feelings, Phaedra believes she is damned and after making the
Chorus swear secrecy, goes inside and hangs herself to death. On returning Theseus learns of his wife
s death and discovers a letter which seems to clearly place the blame for her death on Hippolytus.
Misinterpreting this, he assumes that Hippolytus had raped Phaedra, the furious Theseus curses his
son to death or at least exile, calling on his father Poseidon to enforce the curse. Hippolytus pleads
innocence, but cannot tell the truth in entirety because of the binding oath he previously swore to the
nurse. As the Chorus sings a lament, Hippolytus is sent off to exile. However, a messenger brings
news of Hippolytus shortly to report how, as Hippolytus

Theme Of Sin And Redemption In The Kite Runner
In Khaled Hosseini s Kite Runner, Amir says I became what I am today at the age of twelve... But it s
wrong what they say about the past, I ve learned, about how you can bury it. Because the past claws
its way out. Looking back now I realise I have been peeking into that deserted alley for the last twenty
six years... It was my past of unatoned sins . Sin is like an albatross around ones neck and atonement
is the only way to redeem oneself. This means that when one commits a sin, they are burdened with
guilt and the only way to get rid of this burden and attain peace and redemption is to atone for one s
sins. Same was the case with Amir, his past full of unatoned sins kept haunting him even when he had
tried to move on in life. And finally after ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Amir from The Kite Runner had committed the sin of not standing up for a friend and then lying about
it. However, his past sins caught up to his present day pretentious living. Similar was the case with
Kunti, she never accepted Karna as her son, however in the end repentance led her to acceptance.
Dimmesdale, just like Amir was a coward who did not stand up for those loyal to him and accept his
sins. However Dimmesdale lived a contrite and torturous life to punish himself. Briony and Amir were
both of tender age when they committed their sins but guilt took them on the right path of atonement,

Life Events And Stress, Stressors And Frustration
Boot Camp Days Finally, it has come, the final paper! Although I will miss all the great things we
learn about in class every week, I will not miss having to think of information to type in these papers.
This week the topics I have chosen to discuss are; life events and stress, stressors and frustration. The
best way I can relate to these topics is by talking about my personal experiences at Navy Boot Camp.
The worst eight and a half weeks of my life.
The Good Beginning
My journey began, I was leaving the Tampa airport and heading to Chicago, destination Great Lakes,
to become a sailor. At the airport, I was full of many different thoughts and emotions, being excited,
but scared of what was to come.
Arriving at the Chicago O Hare airport we were met by a group of Petty Officers who were a lot nicer
than I thought they would be. Before we left the airport, we had to throw out anything we were not
supposed to have, lip balm, lotions, soaps, we couldn t even keep our toothbrushes. That was fine, at
least I wasn t getting yelled at. Then we loaded up onto a bus and headed to the base.
The Start of the Worst Arriving on base, we pulled up to a building and quickly loaded off the bus and
filed in one by one. There were three different people all yelling different directions. Sadly, the Petty
Officers who picked us up from the airport, were not Recruit Division Commanders (RDC). My hope
of everything continuing to go well was shot down very quickly. Just being there five

The Evil Sorcerous Pursue Of Seaweed
The Finman was out in the water, close to shore hunting for his prey. He spotted the lone female
walking along the beach. His dark eyes searched the shore to see if she was with another human. It
seems she is out here on her own. The evil sorcerous shape shifter floats to shore as a harmless piece
of seaweed. Seaweed was something no one would think twice about. As the Finman floated to shore,
he waited till the female walked past the seaweed. He rose up to stand in his humanoid form. At seven
feet tall, he was gauntly built and had a dark countenance on his harsh face. Without the human aware
he was behind her, he grabbed her from behind. She shrieked like a banshee and thrashed her arms and
legs. The Finman used his fist to

How Negatively Affects The Traditional Childhood Culture
The traditional childhood culture is slowly fading. It has changed significantly from the past and one
of the main causes of this is Technology. Our childhood experience shapes our personality traits and it
has a big impact on who we become in the future. In the past, the traditional childhood culture
includes learning about your ethnicity and strengthen your family s bond, socializing through physical
communication, and lastly learning and having fun organically. And currently, today s technology
have taken over everyone s lives and it negatively affects the traditional childhood culture.

The Prestigious Life of Edward Angle
During the years of 1855 through 1930, Edward Hartley, the mind behind orthodontics we know
today, was documented by those around him. Picking up all of his achievements, faults, techniques,
anything there was needed to know about him. A farm boy with an idea that would change lives and
the way things were. Angle devoted his life designing, defining and refining orthodontic techniques
that are still used to the present day. Would you want your teeth to be realigned in the 1850 s? Who
would go for a mouth full of metal and in some cases a metal head piece? Ask the same question for
today s society; everyone. The study of orthodontics has changed the lives of many people today and
is a highly preferred privilege we have today.
Over four million people in the U.S. wear braces, and 25 percent of these individuals are adults. If you
have a misaligned jaw or out of place teeth, be sure to ask your dentist if braces are right for you. (A

Child Care For Single Mothers
Introduction In 2013, according to the U.S Census Bureau, approximately 46% of children in single
mother households were living in poverty and only 11% of children with married parents were living
in poverty (Luscombe, 2014). In 1997, the poverty rate among single mothers was 32.6% and for
those married couples in was only 5.6%, so as you can see the poverty rate among singe mothers has
increased over the years. Single mothers are the poorest and fastest growing family type in the United
States (London, 2000, p. 93). Recently, attitudes towards single mothers have changed dramatically,
and policymakers are being pressed to create reforms that will reduce welfare dependency (Kimmel,
1995, p. 271). Full time work is used as a mean to help poverty reduction among single mothers, but
then they face the challenges of child care costs, which is a significant employment barrier. (Kimmel,
1995, p. 271). On average, in 1995, child care costs were about sixty three dollars per week overall,
and about forty forty dollars per week if they were cared for by a relative, so for the typical single
mother, child care costs would range between 15% and 30% of the mothers earned income, depending
on the type of care and hourly wage (Kimmel, 1995, p. 271). Living in poverty with a single mother
can have an impact on the children in the household. Children from single mother households face the
highest risks of living in poverty and. As of 2009, 18.5% of white children, 25.7% of Hispanic

Joker Vs Marvel

lovers. It will feature aspects of the comics in the cinematic and television world too. Both comic
companies are well established; familiar superheroes in the DC world, include Superman, Batman,
Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, the Flash, Aquaman, and Green Arrow. Moreover, well known
superhero teams still in the DC universe are Justice League, Justice Society, Watchmen, and the Teen
Titans, as well as antagonists such as the Joker, Lex Luthor, Catwoman, Deathstroke, and Professor
Zoom/Reverse Flash. Furthermore, popular Marvel superheroes, include Spider Man, Wolverine, Iron

A Rhetorical Analysis Of Driving While Stupid By Dave Barry
Driving While Stupid All around the world there are careless drivers. There are many different trends,
that different countries follow, when it comes to driving on public roads. At the end of the day, these
trends have one thing greatly in common, they re reckless. Throughout this piece of writing, Driving
While Stupid , written by Dave Barry, Barry talks about his opinion on drivers. Barry feels there are
crazy drivers wherever you go, but none of them can be any worse than the drivers in Miami. Barry
supports his argument with the use of personal experiences. Barry writes using satire, not to offend
any of the drivers he s witnessed, but to expose the fact that such stupidity actually exists. Barry uses
techniques such as, irony, sarcasm, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the Argentinean city of Mar del Plata, nobody ever drives slower than 65 miles per hour, including
inside parking garages, and at night, many motorists drive with their headlights off, because this

Argentinean city has no regards for public safety. The city Mar del Plata translates cover your eyes

Militant Islam Is The Exact Opposite Of What My Essay...
Militant Islam is the exact opposite of what my essay title states. Many Muslims will tell you firsthand
that the radical Islamist you see in the news do not practice true Islam. They go against almost every
moral code in the Qu ran and hadiths by falsely interpreting a few passages. So, how then did this new
religious cult form and shock the entire western world on a day known as 9/11. Groups like these have
been in existence since the early 1930s and the Middle Eastern world has been forced to face these
people head on in their daily lives . This is not a new trend in the world, groups like Nazi Germany
and Communist Russia, so why do these terrorist groups come as such a big shock? Studying radical
Islam is necessary so we can truly combat it in the social and political world. When people hear the
word Jihad (and they are not Muslim) it automatically sends a chill down their spine. This term has
come to mean in the news a religious war against anyone who is not a conservative Muslim . In the Qu
ran (the holy text) it means something very different. They believe that Jihad has a dual meaning, that
the person should strengthen their relationship with Allah and teach others about him . In terrorist
groups they call for the death of all those who stand in the way of Islam and see the Western world as
oppressors of their faith. This frame of mind comes from the push of Christianity into these countries
and the formation of Israel. Many of the terrorist groups we

Comparing Story Of An Hour And Verb To Kill
Delusions In this essay I will discuss both the similarities and contrast between the two stories, The
Story of an Hour by Kate Chopin and The Verb to Kill by Luisa Valenzuela. I will be analyzing the
subject of delusions between the two stories. After reading both stories numerous times and carefully
reviewing it, I strongly feel with good reason that Luisa Valenzuela story, The Verb to Kill serves as a
stronger model for the subject of delusions. Throughout this essay, I will explain my reasoning behind
my judgment, using examples from the story to backup my statements and conclusions. In The Story
of an Hour Louise Mallard is the women who is experiencing a delusion. The delusion began when
her sister Josephine announced that her husband Brently had died in an accident. Rather than feeling
the pain of having lost a loved one, Louise expressed an unexpected array of emotions. She felt a
joyous feeling of independence granted by the death of her husband. For example, Louise said under
her breath: free, free, free! She firmly believes that her husband is dead and she is free to live for
herself. Louise s bizarre delusions stem from the self realization that she ... Show more content on

be short, she now prays for a long, happy life by being independence. In The Verb to Kill it s more of
a paranoid delusion. They have these thoughts about this stranger, that has never even talk to them but
yet they say he wants them. By saying Surprise us on our last day here and catch us while we re still

La Booheme And Rent
Musical theatre has been a form of art and entertainment for hundreds of years. The early example of
opera plays is Dofene, performed in 1597. La boheme was written and composed by Giacomo
Puccini. The play is based in a french play Scénes de la vie de boléme by Henri Murger published in
1851. The world premiere was in Turin, Italy in 1896. This was close to the end of the 19th century
where the theatre was turning from romanticism more into the genre of social realism. In contrast,
Rent was written in 1996 which was close to the end of 20th century. During this one century, many
things were acceptable by the society that were not acceptable during the time of La boheme. Rent
demonstrates the things that would normally not be performed in a theatre. In other words, the movie
provokes some audience. This essay is going to explain how interconnected audience and the theatre is
and how they affect each other.

Both La boheme and Rent shows a story of lives of common people who are poor and need to pay rent
to the landlord. Unlike common opera, La boheme shows the mixture of romanticism and social
realism. Each genre have their own function and purpose. Romanticism shows the only good sides of
the world while social realism shows the issues common people are facing daily. When the audience
goes watch a romanticist play, they expect to feel happy and away from the real woeld. As opposed to,
the audience would expect social issues and things that might provoke them from a social realism

the norms of society change, the boundaries change too. They impact each other

The problem being researched is clinically significant. The purpose is clearly explained and identifies
the reason for the study. The study did not identify who was blinded to the patients, data collectors, or
staff increasing the potential for bias. The hypothesis can only be partially supported due to various
issues regarding sample size, control manipulation, and the patient s reactions to a negative diagnosis.
The training of the data collectors was not clearly expressed. The data was collected ethically and
consistently throughout the study.
Internal and External Validity
The instruments used measured indirectly and were not always reliable due to various issues with
patients. Because the control group was not told to change any behaviors some of the patients listened
to music which tainted their responses. The instrumentation remained the same throughout the study,
but some participants found the questionnaire too disturbing to answer. The researchers did provide an
adequate description of the measurement methods and can find the extent of their errors.

Argument in Favor of Oedipus Fate
Play: Oedipus Rex
Writter: Sophocles
No one can deny freewill of a person totally, so as fate. But as I m in favor of Oedipus, the protagonist
of ancient Greek play Oedipus Rex by Sophocles. I think here in it, fate is more responsible for
Oedipus end.
Many questions were raised against Oedipus in class argument about his character flaws, running from
the fate, killing his father, marrying his mother, and insulting prophet etc. Here I would try to answer
as much I can.
Firstly it is important to mention that, it is the play which had great importance for ... Show more

If the fate is already been cast in iron, then what difference do his characteristics make! Teiresias
himself said that whatever is written in fate will be done;
Teiresias
Well, it will come what will, though I be mute.
Oedipus
Since come it must, thy duty is to tell me.
Teiresias
I have no more to say; storm as thou willst,
And give the rein to all thy pent up rage. (341 347)
If it is to be asked that why he was so aggressive? He should control his anger! Moreover why he
murdered four people, as murder is a sin. So it should be kept in mind that he was already upset by the
unexpected prophecy and servants became him angrier by attacking him, also he was the same
arrogant father s son, so he should not be blame only.
Names from the heroic age were of course often related to the man s nature or destiny or we can also
take it in other way that name effect person s life. Usually good and meaningful names are considered
important because they have some effect on human s whole life and personality. So we can say that
names did their work in this play as well. The name Oedipus is derived from a verb oida which means
know which connects to knowledge and pous means swollen foot . It can be meant like that, a person
who knows his feet, by which he was able to solve the riddle.
After solving the riddle, he got famous as the hero of Thebes, he became the new king as Laius was

The Reflection Of The Library Space In The University
The space that we chose to explore was the library. As students within the university, we use the
library space on a daily basis. Space speak of being, belonging, and becoming (Australian
Government Department of Education Employment and Workplace Relations, 2009, as cited in
Giamminuti, 2013, p. 52). The library is a space that we are familiar with and expected to be
comfortable with. It is a space where students can find books, study, collaborate, use computers, and
print materials. Our understanding of the library is limited to it being a quiet, respected, and organized
space. However, we instead, wanted to explore the unfamiliar, the unexpected, and uncomfortable
aspects of the library. We d like to explore its volumes, colours, light, sounds, and smells and be in
dialogue with these matters (Reggio Children, 2011).
The entrance to the library played a huge role on how we understand this place. We had expectations,
from previous experience, of how the library will be. According to Giamminuti (2013), what one feels
and views when entering a school can influence what one then perceives as one s role within that
school, one s relationship to others, and what one eventually comes to know about the school (p. 53).
These doors reminded us of the expectations it held upon. As soon as you enter the library, the
atmosphere suddenly changes.
When people enter the space, they automatically lower their voices and no one would make any loud
sound. We wanted to find out

Room Vision Board Analysis
I have come up with quite a few money saving options to transform your nursery, playroom, child s
bedroom or ever you teenagers lair into a wonderful, custom space that they ll never want to leave! To
get started you must know what your budget is; with some of these tips no budget it too small. Next,
have a feel for what your child likes or what kind of space you want to create ; have an idea going into
it. If you don t, then start digging for new fresh ideas. Pick a theme if you want. Themes can be
anything, a print( Chevron, paisley, Moroccan) , one or more of your favorite colors, a Disney
character, the sea, dinosaurs, construction... The ideas are endless. You just have to choose something
that fits your child s likes needs! I recommend starting a room vision board; your child can help! Go
through old magazines, paint swatches, images on the internet looking for things they like. Cut them
out or print out the images glue them done on a paper This could be anything a specific color , storage
ideas, a theme, a pattern... anything that stands out to the person whom the room is for. Then, cut them
out or print out the images glue them down on a paper or pin it to a board. This creation of a visual
idea collage will become the blueprint that the room is based on. Once this is done decide what things
to can repurpose or make yourself. Even if it s a few things, making it yourself from the heart is
ALWAYS better than buying. If you do need to buys some item always shop around! If you find

Theory X Case Study
3.5 Theory X / Theory Y / Theory Z
3.5(1) Theory X
According to McGregor and Cutcher Gershenfeld (2006), Theory X management assumes the
following:
Work is inherently distasteful to most people, and they will attempt to avoid work whenever possible.
Essentially, Theory X assumes that the primary source of employee motivation is monetary, with
security as a strong second. Under Theory X, one can take a hard or soft approach to getting results.
For example, Fairwood before the 2000s the staff just force on salary. No bonus, no passion.

of the leader depends on the motivation of the followers to cooperate with the leader as well as the
ability of the leader to influence the followers. (Chemers, 2001; Hogg, 2001; Van Knippenberg Hogg,

How Are The Population Policies Different Between India...
How are the population policies different between India and China?
Guifang Tang
Introduction China and India are the two countries which have the largest population in the world.
These two countries have many similarities, especially they have fabulous growing speed during the
globalization. In the global economic market, China has the biggest manufacture market and cheap
labor (Justin Paul Erick Mas.2016). India gained independence from the United Kingdom from 1947
and started to focus on improving their food security and developing the technology of agriculture, so
India has the evidence dominate the service market from agriculture transfer to service sector due to
the globalization too in recently decades (Kedia Lahiri 2007). In the same situation of China, the
whole society focused on agricultural reforms since the 1970s. As two fastest developing countries,
China and India typically have a big number of population and cheap labor for manufacture industries
which gained a lot of attention around the world. Population in one country could be the productivity
power or the economic factor force of developing. On the other side, it could be the main reason of
hinder the development. So this paper will directly analysis these two nations population policy, in
addition, based on their different society contexts and culture value, analysis the population problem
and social issues around the policy.

PolyMet is the first of a long list of companies that hope to take advantage of the world s largest

Though this operation will create a lot of jobs (over 400 permanent jobs and thousands of temporary

If PolyMet s mine creates a disastrous pollution the people will have to clean it up. The tax payers in
the future will end up footing the bill for this project. In a town where there are barely any jobs for the
people this will send them into financial ruin. Also, the cleanup cost is extremely unpredictable and
any clean up contract or financial contract that is made with PolyMet is not going to cover this
cleanup cost because it is unpredictable. The people will have to pay the cleanup cost. If PolyMet
became unable to complete the project the state will not receive any money that they put into the
project. This will also guarantee money shortage. Some might say that this project will help the town
find it s footing in the long haul and therefore we should support it. They are wrong. This project is a
disaster waiting to happen because the true magnitude of it is unpredictable and it is impossible to
solve a problem that one did not see coming.
The PolyMet mining project should be immediately halted because it has a sustained life span of two

What Are The External Factors Of John Deere
Companies often run into roadblocks when trying to move their business forward. Often times they
center their focus on the internal and external factors that effect the business. Focusing on progressing
in today s economy external factors becomes priority for businesses. Being able to focus on these
trends help business to strategically plan for any unforeseen circumstances. Before we evaluate the
external factors we must understand there are two distinguished type of trends in the
industry/economy. There are trends that offer strategic opportunities and the other that oppose threats
to the company. Being able to distinguish between the two can open sectors of opportunities and new
ventures for the company. John Deere also known as Deere Co. has preceded many external factors in
their corporation some of which may be posed as threats and others that are opportunities. Each trend

A Report On Car Sharing
Car Sharing
1. Introduction [carshare]
1.1. What is Car Sharing? [SAG_Report_ _Car_Sharing]
Car Sharing is the term used throughout most of the world to refer to mobility services. It is a group of
people that use one car in every single day to terminate their business daily. Car Sharing refers to
automobile rental services intended to substitute for private vehicle ownership, with vehicles located
in neighborhoods, are rented by the hour, and easy to check in and out. Carsharing ranges from small
informal cooperatives to sophisticated businesses with many vehicles. The current transportation
market offers consumers many options for purchasing an automobile, but fewer practical options for
using a vehicle occasionally. This contributes to several problems:
It results in inefficient use of valuable assets. Many private automobiles are used only a few hours per
week. These low annual mileage vehicles have high costs per vehicle mile.
It increases vehicle use. Because cars are expensive to own but cheap to drive, owners have the
incentive to maximize their use. This increases external costs such as traffic congestion, facility costs,
accidents and environmental impacts.
Some low income households cannot afford to drive at all, or they spend an excessive portion of their
budgets own vehicles they only need occasionally. This is a financial burden and contributes to
problems such as uninsured driving.

Chinese Immigrants During The Civil War
The Irish had finally reached higher on the social ladder and did not want African Americans to be on
the same level again, so when the government drafted Irish people to fight in the Civil War, the Irish
rioted. The reason was that they did not want to have more competition for jobs and so they attacked
the soldiers and draft offices as an act of protest to the war. They gained those opportunities thanks to
their white background and assimilation with American culture and did not want to fight in a war that
may take it away. The Chinese did not find the same opportunities as the Irish did because of their
foreign culture and appearance. They left their home because of the Opium War and environmental
issues that were happening in their country. During their times of struggle, the Gold Rush was

A Short Summary On The Constitution Of India
In the game, Britain just proposed a constitution that they believe is going to save India. This proposal
is supposed to mend the broken bonds between the people in the nation, and also the people and
princely states around it. So far in the game, the Muslims have asked for a different state for Muslims
only, so that they can live how they feel is morally correct, the Communists have proposed how their
idea of government would benefit the people of India, the INC has proposed their ideas about the
British residing in India, the Untouchables professed their wish to have specified seats in the

of this constitution also because it grants everyone an equal say and voice in the government of India.
No one group of people is left out, underrepresented or overrepresented. This fits India well because
there are so many different types of people that want and need different things out of the government.
Ali Jinnah stated that Muslim India cannot accept any constitution which must necessarily result in a

The And Its Effects On Native American Populations
Socially and clinically these can have crucial implications for Native American populations. At the
social level, it indicates a large problem as the possibility for social maladjustment not only becomes
seen through the eyes of subjective settler citizens within the United States, but it also makes these
subjective opinions objective through the scientific gaze (Foucault, 1988). This, therefore, not only
ensures that Native Americans be prevented access to things like jobs (for employment screening), but
may also be at a higher chance to be criminalized due to their cultural beliefs since the MMPI 2 plays
a role in forensic psychology (Butcher Williams, 2009). Not only that, but, as Oliver (2004) points out,

In order to really grasp how to approach such a problem from a social work perspective, it becomes
important to have a firm understanding of what it might mean to have social work aimed at
decolonization. Sium, Desai, and Ritskes (2012) say that Decolonization does not exist without a
framework that centers and privileges Indigenous life, community, and epistemology (p. ii). As such, it
becomes necessary to understand social work s indebtedness to Western epistemological structures
and the necessity for change. Rather than understand this problem as one that operates within an
existential rubric of gains and losses in which the MMPI 2 could achieve some multicultural
understanding, we must begin to think more deeply about the libidinal economies which make such an
achievement impossible at the epistemic and ontological levels. The MMPI 2 s commitment to
Western epistemologies ensures that a shift towards Indigenous ways of knowing would necessarily
undo its project, and, more generally, threaten the entire field of psychiatry as the reason/madness
nexus is thrown into question (Hill et al., 2012; Foucault, 1988). As such, the onus is on the field of
social work to shift its epistemic coordinates to an Indigenous framework. In the specific context of
the MMPI 2, this would require a radical de univerisalization which would not simply attempt to make
room for various cultures in a multicultural ploy for

have a tombstone or other funerary memorial? The function of a funerary memorial is generally to
honor the person who has passed. For the ones that the deceased has left behind, it can serve as a
symbol of remembrance. Tombstones hold evidence about who the person was, what was important to

On The Rainy River Character Analysis
Life can bring unexpected events that individuals might not be prepared to confront. This was the case
in the short story On The Rainy River written by Tim O Brien. Young Tim is drafted to the military to
fight the American War in Vietnam. He faces the conflict of whether he should or should not go to war
after being drafted. The thought of giving up the future he has worked so hard for and instead fight a
war for uncertain reasons terrifies him. He must make the agonizing decision of whether to pursue his
personal desire and in turn be shamed by society or conform, sacrificing his ideals in the process.
Through the initial characterization of young Tim, O Brien suggests that when faced with unexpected
life changing dilemmas people will more often than naught end up clouded judgement and panic.
Young Tim is ambitious and well educated, he is on his way to Harvard University on a scholarship.
His life is heading in the best direction possible. This is until he receives the draft letter. His ideals
hurtling down a huge black funnel and all he can do is nothing ...wait. His helpless soon becomes
rage, rage towards the government who s motives for the war were shrouded in uncertainty . He is too
good for this war. Too smart, too compassionate, too everything. Why don t they draft some back to
the stone age hawk? Why must he, who doesn t support this uncertain war put [his] own precious

Analysis Of A Tribute To Neil Armstrong By Terrell Martin
That s one small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind. In the year 1969 was the first moon
landing and the people touching the surface were from the U.S., astronauts Michael Collins, Edwin E.
(Buzz) Aldrin, Jr., and Neil A. Armstrong, Neil was THE first human to touch the moon s surface. A
Tribute to Neil Alden Armstrong ,written by Terrell Martin, was a poem about the first landing on the
moon, and what different people s opinions were on it. The poem called Neil Armstrong by me, is
about not only just the landing on the moon but also the internal journey there and back, for Neil, and
what I think he would feel during the experience. The Apollo 11 Mission greatly affected the U.S. and
all the citizens in it.

One of the quotes that was my favorite was on, the 26th line Savoring every last bit of it. . I found that
line interesting because he is doing this (risking his life) for the good of his country. This line shows
the emotion that he is most likely proud but also concerned at the same time, because he is proud to be
the bravest, first person on the moon, but is also concerned for his life because it is at stake. Another
quote is pulled from this poem was on line 6 it was dark . This line was intriguing because it means
that one, space is dark and you can t really see anything, which is like the Apollo 11 mission where all
of the scientists and engineers didn t know exactly what was going to occur, so it was cloudy or dark .
One piece of literature that i found interesting was on stanza 1 line 4, Something no man can erase . I
thought it was interesting because for one, it is an example of hyperbole but at the same time it is
personification. The quote can be personification because the mark that neil armstrong made was not
something you can touch, more or less erase. It could also be a hyperbole because if it were something
that can be erased then it states No man . The quote on line 4 5 on stanza 2 states He spoke, like he
was the only one, the only man on the planet, . This line is a simile and is comparing the silence of
space to being completely alone on the planet. The main theme I tried to communicate was awareness,
I chose this theme because all of america should be aware of this topic and in my poem era there is a
country who is completely aware of the situation that happened and they are

Women In Fantomina

Fantomina, written by Eliza Haywood in 1725, elicits revolutionary topics calling into question the
woman s role in patriarchal societies and their lack of sexual freedom. Distinguished in the genre of
amatory fiction, Haywood covers the transformation of the eighteenth century protagonist, from a
young lady of distinguished birth (Haywood 632), to a series of different persona s, including a
prostitute, maid, widow, and an anonymous woman, in Fantomina. The reader is constantly aware of
who the protagonist claims to be under disguise, but the original identity of the protagonist is left

Anti masqueraders spread their opinions through writing, comparing this form of entertainment to vile
forms of promiscuity and prostitution. Well known figures of the time, such as Alexander Pope,

values in society. Women saw the mask as a symbol of protection their reputations at the same time as
satisfying human curiosity. Anti masquerading men held the view that every woman under the mask
was comparable to a prostitute. Every time women masked their identities, they were in a way taking
on the possibility of experiencing backlash or negative consequence. Haywood s plot operates around
the concept of masquerading and with each persona taken on, Fantomina also puts herself in the
position of discovery. As the novel comes to a close, the protagonists masquerade is brought to an end
when her pregnancy can no longer be hidden. This does not necessarily mean that Fantomina is unable
to manipulate the patriarchal society in which she resides, gaining and maintaining control, while

The Models For Observational Learning
According to Bandura (Wortley, 2011), people acquire behaviour through a process of observation and
imitation called modelling. There are three main models for observational learning: familiar models in
which a person imitates the behaviour of a family member, subculture models in which a person
imitates the behaviour of a member of one s subculture, and symbolic models where an individual
imitates the behaviour represented symbolically through words and pictures such as television.
Furthermore, Bandura claimed that there were four factors required for the success of modelling:
attention, retention, reproduction, and reinforcement. First, an individual must show attention to a
model. The more attention shown depends on the frequency the ... Show more content on

Wortley (2011) proposes that children who are raised in abusive households are more likely to engage
in criminal activity. Familiar modelling also plays apart in Marys criminal behaviour. By the time
Mary ran away from home she was already shop lifting, carrying out petty thefts and engaging in
prostitution which concluded with her arrest for murder. Felson and Lane (2009) suggests that children
who have been physically or sexually abused learn to use violence as an acceptable way to resolve
their problems through modelling. Furthermore, Felson and Lane (2009) suggest that sexually abused
children are more likely to engage in prostitution and that physically abused children were more likely
to commit offences such as assault, murder, and robbery. In Marys case she was both physically and
sexually abused and did engage in prostitution as well as commit robbery and murder. Marys criminal
behaviour as well as her alcohol and drug abuse is mainly the result of the modelling influences of her
family and peers. The Social Cognitive Learning Theory argues that behaviour occurs not only as a
result of the environment but because of an individual s cognitive representation of that environment,
known as the S O R model (stimulus organism response). Wortley (2011) states that The Social

Ardennes Offensive Advantages And Disadvantages
The Allies faced various disadvantages during the Ardennes Offensive:  Since the Allies had reached
the German border after the Normandy landings by this time, they faced an important intelligence
disadvantage. The Germans used only telephones and tele printers within the German borders. Radios
were not used as the Allies had cracked Enigma by then.  The Allied aircraft reconnaissance suffered
due to the autumn fog and withheld them from making optimum use of air power especially the tank
busting Typhoons of the RAF or Mustang fighters from the USAAF which would have been used
against German tanks. Though the weather was typical for the Ardennes in winter, the ground was

Techniques of Interrogation
Techniques of Interrogation
One of the best training programs to implement into the police department is the Reid interrogation
techniques. Interrogation and interviewing techniques became popular in 1947 by John E. Reid and
Associates. Joseph P. Buckley stated that The Reid Technique of Interviewing and Interrogation is
now the most widely used approach to question subjects in the world (Buckley P. J., 2000). There
three parts to the Reid process for solving a crime. The first stage that should be taking is to collect
and analyze relative information from the crime scene thing that offers insight to the possible suspect
and determine the direction an investigation should take. The second stage of the process interviewing
people of interest using Behavior Analysis Interview (BAI) (Buckley P. J., 2000). The Behavior
Analysis Interview is a non accusatory process that allows detectives to interview a suspect using a
question and answer procedure to provoke a suspect to show non verbal truthfulness or deception. The
third stage, if the offender has not admitted to the crime an accusatory interrogation is administered
(Leave no marks, 2007). The Reid interrogation technique is believed to be a fail proof technique
,however, there are some reservations against using this technique on juvenile offenders

Anthony wants female s rights to be heard and put to good use. She then talks about the preamble of

the government has given women their freedom but hasn t let them use it by voting. This is the heart

Laissez Faire Capitalism In The Gilded Age
Before the Gilded Age, economic growth came to a halt because of the Depression of 1873. The
depression led to the bankruptcy of many banks and railroads, and resulted in hundreds of thousands
of people out of work. The Liberal Republican party also emerged as result of the depression. Liberal
Republicans were strong advocates for laissez faire policies, where there is no government regulation
in businesses or the economy. With this ideology, liberal republicans believed that it would help
stimulate economic growth and create more jobs. While liberal republicans were unsuccessful in
getting into office, they helped push the Democratic party (who were able to get control of the House
in 1784) shift their agenda to supporting laissez faire capitalism. By 1879, The Depression of 1873
had ended and the second Industrial Revolution began.
Laissez Faire capitalism became the dominating force of the Industrial Revolution that began during
the Gilded Age. The idea that Laissez Faire capitalism could help bring prosperity to the common man
was pushed by writer Horatio Alger, who published books that assured young readers that if they were
honest, hardworking, and had a good character, they could leave poverty behind and succeed in the
new competitive economy brought by the second industrial revolution. This idea was also reinforced
through the success of industrialists like John D. Rockefeller, Andrew Carnegie, and Cornelius

Lego And Its Unique History And Brand Concept
set amount of a good or service can be produced on a larger scale yet having less input costs . This can
be the case for Lego due to to its long term factory moulds, its specialisation in producing building
brick and its unique history and brand concept. For a competitor to enter the market it would have a
high Economies of Scale. To exemplify this if Lego wanted to produce x units it would cost $y. If a
competitor wanted to produce the same amount of units (x) its cost would be $Ky with K being the
constant. It would prove to be more costly for the competitor. Fig 1.5
In the diagram above (Fig1.5) it shows the average costs to the output of Lego and a new competitor.
As have discussed above, for Lego to produce quantity x its costs will be Costs Lego. However, for
the incoming competitor to produce quantity x its cost will be significantly higher than Lego. Thus in
the context of microeconomics, firms may not decided to compete with the current monopoly
powerhouse due to the negativity in the cost benefit analysis of the higher starting costs. For a
competitor to reach the current level of output of Lego: it would prove to be unbeneficial due to the
long time it will take to reach Lego s position, thus increasing costs whilst decreasing revenue. This is
effective as there is little to no room for profit. Lego can subsequently price anywhere due to its

Essential Oil
Where do they come from?
There are three main ways that essential oils can be extracted from fruits and plants:
Distillation
Steam passes through the plant and is caught in a condenser. (drericz, 2018, para. 24)
The condenser then cools down the steam and it turns to liquid. (drericz, 2018, para. 24)
Because of the essential oil s lipophilic nature it separates from the water allowing it to be extracted
(drericz, 2018, para. 24)
Expression (Cold Pressing)
Most often done with to obtain citrus essential oils (Asbahani, 2014, p. 227)
Fruit is placed in machine with small spikes that poke the rind, breaking the oil sacs, to release the
essential oil (Asbahani, 2014, p. 227)
The oil is then collected in a small container underneath the machine ... Show more content on

Examples of essential oils that are known to inhibit the growth of E. coli (at certain concentrations):
Bay oil, clove oil, lemon grass oil, oregano oil and thyme oil (Raut Karuppayil, 2014, p. 252)
How do essential oils fight bacteria?
Essential oils are often lipophilic so they are able to destabilize the bacteria s plasma membrane (Raut
Karuppayil, 2014, p. 252)
They can also interfere with how proton pumps in the bacteria cell membrane work, decreasing
membrane integrity (Raut Karuppayil, 2014, p. 252)
Antifungal
Essential oils rich in terpenoids have been found to inhibit the growth of Candida albicans (one of the
major pathogens infecting humans today) (Raut Karuppayil, 2014, p. 256)
Essential oils such as tea tree and eucalyptus oil can prevent C. albicans from entering the S phase of
the cells cycle, where DNA replication occurs (Raut Karuppayil, 2014, p. 256).
How do essential oils fight fungi?
Inhibits membrane sterol, ergosterol, and signalling pathways so that morphogenesis cannot occur
(Raut Karuppayil, 2014, p. 256)
Weakens mitochondrial membrane, resulting in apoptosis (Raut Karuppayil, 2014, p.

Eugenics Is A Theory Of Eugenics
During the late 19th and early 20th century a popular new theory started to spread. Based in the ideas
of Charles Darwin, the theory of eugenics came about. During its time, it was embraced almost
unanimously throughout the world. This theory had very few objectors to the practice of eugenics. But
what is eugenics anyways? Why was it poplar exactly? And what were its impacts on the world we
live in today? Eugenics is a theory that had many different reasons for being popular, and many
differing impact on our world today. Eugenics is an interesting topic that could be said to have taken
the world by storm in the late 19th and early 20th century, and exploring its meaning, popularity, and
impacts is too. Eugenics, simply put, is the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But, after Galton released his research many found the theory interesting.
Interesting enough that eugenics became an academic subject taught and researched at a multitude of
colleges and universities. This research at colleges and universities were given funding from various
sources such as the rich and government. There were even three International Eugenics Conferences
which gave a global location for eugenicists where they could meet. With gatherings in 1912 in
London, and in 1921 and 1932 in New York. This interest in eugenics was not only limited to the
academic world (Haller)(Bashford).
Eugenic policies began being employed during the early 20th century in the United States. Later, in
the 1920s and 30s, eugenic policies were applied in other countries, comprising Belgium, Canada,
Japan, and many others (Adams). The policies and programs were mainly implemented in different
degrees around the world include, genetic screening, birth control, marriage restrictions, segregation
of both race and the mentally ill, obligatory sterilization, forced abortions and pregnancies, and
genocide(Bashford). Many different groups of people were targeted by these policies. Those who were
targeted included the poor, mentally ill, blind, deaf, disabled, promiscuous women, homosexuals, and
racial groups the most notable racial groups targeted were the Jews and Gypsies during the holocaust
(Dikotter).
As a social movement, eugenics reached its greatest

  • 2. Review of Culture Jam by Kalle Lasn The advertising culture is having a devastating effect on our agendas of becoming the media s ideal of perfection, and behind all of this self sacrifice the media and corporations are the ones succeeding, not us. In Culture Jam, by Kale Lasn, the founder of Adbusters magazine, he attempts to show the reader what our mass media has been doing subliminally. When the average American thinks of consumerism, we believe it is the promotion of the consumer s interests. What Lasn believes is that we re being told what our interests are and to buy into those false interests. We ve become disconnected with ourselves and our own interests to fit those that our corporations have designed for us. He uses an example of taking your ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Normally when we, as thoughtful humans, are so adiment about a topic, we like to clarify a quick solution, even if we don t fully discuss the outcome or dive into detail. • 4. The Importance Of Education In High School From a young age, I have always been encouraged by my parents to take advantage of every educational opportunity that I could. My mother was the first in her family to go to college, and my father was educationally gifted from his youth, so they instilled their beliefs of the importance of education in me. In the third grade, I was accepted into the Center Based Gifted (CBG) program, and was surrounded with other educationally driven people from that time until I graduated from middle school. From there on, I applied for several specialty centers in my county, which closely resemble colleges in their application processes and the emphasis on certain fields of academia. The Math and Science High School at Clover Hill was the most fitting program for me and I was a part of the competitively academic program offered there for all of high school. As my education has always been a major part of my life, college was a given post high school plan for me. The struggle from there became deciding which college best fit my personal academic needs. The house I grew up in was surrounded by modest wooded areas, ideal for exploring, and had a small creek running through it. In reality, the creek was a sewage ditch, but to me it was where I fell in love with biology and marine life. I was fortunate enough to spend my childhood knee deep in water, exploring the tiny tadpoles, crayfish, newts, lizards, and minnows that found their home in the creek. On returning Theseus learns of his wife s death and discovers a letter which seems to clearly place the blame for her death on Hippolytus. Misinterpreting this, he assumes that Hippolytus had raped Phaedra, the furious Theseus curses his son to death or at least exile, calling on his father Poseidon to enforce the curse. Hippolytus pleads innocence, but cannot tell the truth in entirety because of the binding oath he previously swore to the nurse. As the Chorus sings a lament, Hippolytus is sent off to exile. • 6. Theme Of Sin And Redemption In The Kite Runner In Khaled Hosseini s Kite Runner, Amir says I became what I am today at the age of twelve... But it s wrong what they say about the past, I ve learned, about how you can bury it. Because the past claws its way out. Looking back now I realise I have been peeking into that deserted alley for the last twenty six years... It was my past of unatoned sins . Sin is like an albatross around ones neck and atonement is the only way to redeem oneself. This means that when one commits a sin, they are burdened with guilt and the only way to get rid of this burden and attain peace and redemption is to atone for one s sins. Same was the case with Amir, his past full of unatoned sins kept haunting him even when he had tried to move on in life. And finally after ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 7. Life Events And Stress, Stressors And Frustration Boot Camp Days Finally, it has come, the final paper! Although I will miss all the great things we learn about in class every week, I will not miss having to think of information to type in these papers. This week the topics I have chosen to discuss are; life events and stress, stressors and frustration. The best way I can relate to these topics is by talking about my personal experiences at Navy Boot Camp. The worst eight and a half weeks of my life. The Good Beginning My journey began, I was leaving the Tampa airport and heading to Chicago, destination Great Lakes, to become a sailor. At the airport, I was full of many different thoughts and emotions, being excited, but scared of what was to come. Arriving at the Chicago O Hare airport we were met by a group of Petty Officers who were a lot nicer than I thought they would be. Before we left the airport, we had to throw out anything we were not supposed to have, lip balm, lotions, soaps, we couldn t even keep our toothbrushes. That was fine, at least I wasn t getting yelled at. Then we loaded up onto a bus and headed to the base. The Start of the Worst Arriving on base, we pulled up to a building and quickly loaded off the bus and filed in one by one. There were three different people all yelling different directions. Child Care For Single Mothers Introduction In 2013, according to the U.S Census Bureau, approximately 46% of children in single mother households were living in poverty and only 11% of children with married parents were living in poverty (Luscombe, 2014). In 1997, the poverty rate among single mothers was 32.6% and for those married couples in was only 5.6%, so as you can see the poverty rate among singe mothers has increased over the years. Single mothers are the poorest and fastest growing family type in the United States (London, 2000, p. 93). Recently, attitudes towards single mothers have changed dramatically, and policymakers are being pressed to create reforms that will reduce welfare dependency (Kimmel, 1995, p. 271). Full time work is used as a mean to help poverty reduction among single mothers, but then they face the challenges of child care costs, which is a significant employment barrier. (Kimmel, 1995, p. 271). On average, in 1995, child care costs were about sixty three dollars per week overall, and about forty forty dollars per week if they were cared for by a relative, so for the typical single mother, child care costs would range between 15% and 30% of the mothers earned income, depending on the type of care and hourly wage (Kimmel, 1995, p. 271). Many Muslims will tell you firsthand that the radical Islamist you see in the news do not practice true Islam. They go against almost every moral code in the Qu ran and hadiths by falsely interpreting a few passages. So, how then did this new religious cult form and shock the entire western world on a day known as 9/11. Groups like these have been in existence since the early 1930s and the Middle Eastern world has been forced to face these people head on in their daily lives . This is not a new trend in the world, groups like Nazi Germany and Communist Russia, so why do these terrorist groups come as such a big shock? Studying radical Islam is necessary so we can truly combat it in the social and political world. When people hear the word Jihad (and they are not Muslim) it automatically sends a chill down their spine. This term has come to mean in the news a religious war against anyone who is not a conservative Muslim . In the Qu ran (the holy text) it means something very different. They believe that Jihad has a dual meaning, that the person should strengthen their relationship with Allah and teach others about him . In terrorist groups they call for the death of all those who stand in the way of Islam and see the Western world as oppressors of their faith. [SAG_Report_ _Car_Sharing] Car Sharing is the term used throughout most of the world to refer to mobility services. It is a group of people that use one car in every single day to terminate their business daily. Car Sharing refers to automobile rental services intended to substitute for private vehicle ownership, with vehicles located in neighborhoods, are rented by the hour, and easy to check in and out. Carsharing ranges from small informal cooperatives to sophisticated businesses with many vehicles. The current transportation market offers consumers many options for purchasing an automobile, but fewer practical options for using a vehicle occasionally. This contributes to several problems: It results in inefficient use of valuable assets. Many private automobiles are used only a few hours per week. These low annual mileage vehicles have high costs per vehicle mile. It increases vehicle use. Because cars are expensive to own but cheap to drive, owners have the incentive to maximize their use. This increases external costs such as traffic congestion, facility costs, accidents and environmental impacts. The new constitution keeps the Hindus, which are the majority in India, from having more say in the government than Muslims, Untouchables etc. Although the Muslim League would be very upset by the constitution because they were not granted Pakistan, they can be pleased that they will now have an equal say in the government and its affairs. • 31. The And Its Effects On Native American Populations Socially and clinically these can have crucial implications for Native American populations. At the social level, it indicates a large problem as the possibility for social maladjustment not only becomes seen through the eyes of subjective settler citizens within the United States, but it also makes these subjective opinions objective through the scientific gaze (Foucault, 1988). This, therefore, not only ensures that Native Americans be prevented access to things like jobs (for employment screening), but may also be at a higher chance to be criminalized due to their cultural beliefs since the MMPI 2 plays a role in forensic psychology (Butcher Williams, 2009). In order to really grasp how to approach such a problem from a social work perspective, it becomes important to have a firm understanding of what it might mean to have social work aimed at decolonization. Sium, Desai, and Ritskes (2012) say that Decolonization does not exist without a framework that centers and privileges Indigenous life, community, and epistemology (p. ii). As such, it becomes necessary to understand social work s indebtedness to Western epistemological structures and the necessity for change. Rather than understand this problem as one that operates within an existential rubric of gains and losses in which the MMPI 2 could achieve some multicultural understanding, we must begin to think more deeply about the libidinal economies which make such an achievement impossible at the epistemic and ontological levels. The MMPI 2 s commitment to Western epistemologies ensures that a shift towards Indigenous ways of knowing would necessarily undo its project, and, more generally, threaten the entire field of psychiatry as the reason/madness nexus is thrown into question (Hill et al., 2012; Foucault, 1988). As such, the onus is on the field of social work to shift its epistemic coordinates to an Indigenous framework. In the specific context of the MMPI 2, this would require a radical de univerisalization which would not simply attempt to make room for various cultures in a multicultural ploy for ... How can historians use them as evidence? What elements of the population will have a tombstone or other funerary memorial? The function of a funerary memorial is generally to honor the person who has passed. For the ones that the deceased has left behind, it can serve as a symbol of remembrance. Tombstones hold evidence about who the person was, what was important to them as well as what was important about them. This was the case in the short story On The Rainy River written by Tim O Brien. Young Tim is drafted to the military to fight the American War in Vietnam. He faces the conflict of whether he should or should not go to war after being drafted. The thought of giving up the future he has worked so hard for and instead fight a war for uncertain reasons terrifies him. He must make the agonizing decision of whether to pursue his personal desire and in turn be shamed by society or conform, sacrificing his ideals in the process. Through the initial characterization of young Tim, O Brien suggests that when faced with unexpected life changing dilemmas people will more often than naught end up clouded judgement and panic. Young Tim is ambitious and well educated, he is on his way to Harvard University on a scholarship. His life is heading in the best direction possible. This is until he receives the draft letter. Armstrong, Neil was THE first human to touch the moon s surface. A Tribute to Neil Alden Armstrong ,written by Terrell Martin, was a poem about the first landing on the moon, and what different people s opinions were on it. The poem called Neil Armstrong by me, is about not only just the landing on the moon but also the internal journey there and back, for Neil, and what I think he would feel during the experience. Another quote is pulled from this poem was on line 6 it was dark . This line was intriguing because it means that one, space is dark and you can t really see anything, which is like the Apollo 11 mission where all of the scientists and engineers didn t know exactly what was going to occur, so it was cloudy or dark . One piece of literature that i found interesting was on stanza 1 line 4, Something no man can erase . I thought it was interesting because for one, it is an example of hyperbole but at the same time it is personification. The quote can be personification because the mark that neil armstrong made was not something you can touch, more or less erase. It could also be a hyperbole because if it were something that can be erased then it states No man . The quote on line 4 5 on stanza 2 states He spoke, like he was the only one, the only man on the planet, . This line is a simile and is comparing the silence of space to being completely alone on the planet. Anti masquerading men held the view that every woman under the mask was comparable to a prostitute. Every time women masked their identities, they were in a way taking on the possibility of experiencing backlash or negative consequence. There are three main models for observational learning: familiar models in which a person imitates the behaviour of a family member, subculture models in which a person imitates the behaviour of a member of one s subculture, and symbolic models where an individual imitates the behaviour represented symbolically through words and pictures such as television. Wortley (2011) proposes that children who are raised in abusive households are more likely to engage in criminal activity. Familiar modelling also plays apart in Marys criminal behaviour. By the time Mary ran away from home she was already shop lifting, carrying out petty thefts and engaging in prostitution which concluded with her arrest for murder. Felson and Lane (2009) suggests that children who have been physically or sexually abused learn to use violence as an acceptable way to resolve their problems through modelling. Furthermore, Felson and Lane (2009) suggest that sexually abused children are more likely to engage in prostitution and that physically abused children were more likely to commit offences such as assault, murder, and robbery. In Marys case she was both physically and sexually abused and did engage in prostitution as well as commit robbery and murder. Marys criminal behaviour as well as her alcohol and drug abuse is mainly the result of the modelling influences of her family and peers. Interrogation and interviewing techniques became popular in 1947 by John E. Reid and Associates. Joseph P. Buckley stated that The Reid Technique of Interviewing and Interrogation is now the most widely used approach to question subjects in the world (Buckley P. J., 2000). There three parts to the Reid process for solving a crime. The first stage that should be taking is to collect and analyze relative information from the crime scene thing that offers insight to the possible suspect and determine the direction an investigation should take. The second stage of the process interviewing people of interest using Behavior Analysis Interview (BAI) (Buckley P. J., 2000). The Behavior Analysis Interview is a non accusatory process that allows detectives to interview a suspect using a question and answer procedure to provoke a suspect to show non verbal truthfulness or deception. The third stage, if the offender has not admitted to the crime an accusatory interrogation is administered (Leave no marks, 2007). The depression led to the bankruptcy of many banks and railroads, and resulted in hundreds of thousands of people out of work. The Liberal Republican party also emerged as result of the depression. Liberal Republicans were strong advocates for laissez faire policies, where there is no government regulation in businesses or the economy. With this ideology, liberal republicans believed that it would help stimulate economic growth and create more jobs. While liberal republicans were unsuccessful in getting into office, they helped push the Democratic party (who were able to get control of the House in 1784) shift their agenda to supporting laissez faire capitalism. By 1879, The Depression of 1873 had ended and the second Industrial Revolution began. Laissez Faire capitalism became the dominating force of the Industrial Revolution that began during the Gilded Age. The idea that Laissez Faire capitalism could help bring prosperity to the common man was pushed by writer Horatio Alger, who published books that assured young readers that if they were honest, hardworking, and had a good character, they could leave poverty behind and succeed in the new competitive economy brought by the second industrial revolution. If a competitor wanted to produce the same amount of units (x) its cost would be $Ky with K being the constant. It would prove to be more costly for the competitor. However, for the incoming competitor to produce quantity x its cost will be significantly higher than Lego. Thus in the context of microeconomics, firms may not decided to compete with the current monopoly powerhouse due to the negativity in the cost benefit analysis of the higher starting costs. For a competitor to reach the current level of output of Lego: it would prove to be unbeneficial due to the long time it will take to reach Lego s position, thus increasing costs whilst decreasing revenue.
