Antonyms are words that have opposite meanings. 
Hot and cold are good examples of antonyms.

Synonyms are words that have the same meaning. 
Happy and glad are synonyms because they mean 
the same or nearly the same thing.

Homophones are words that have the same sound 
but are spelled differently.

Homographs are words that have the same spelling but 
are pronounced differently. Tear and tear are 
homographs because they are spelled the same but 
have different pronunciations.
FIGURATIVE LANGUAGE 
Figurative language are phrases that are not meant in 
their literal form. An example of this would be, “I’m 
so hungry I could eat a horse.” One would not 
literally be hungry enough to eat an entire horse. 
The phrase simply means that the person is very 
hungry.
