Comparing The Achaemenid Empire And The Imperial Stability...
Throughout human civilization, it has been invariably true that the ideas and innovations belonging to
particular societies have been adopted by both concurrent and later cultures. This has culminated in
remarkably advanced societies, whose success can be attributed to that of their ancient counterparts.
Much of the prosperity of modern civilization can certainly be accredited to the Achaemenid Empire,
a pluralistic empire founded in 550 BCE. At its peak, it stretched from the Indus River Valley to the
eastern Mediterranean coast. Despite its diversity, the empire remained politically and societally
united throughout its existence. The two major Achaemenid emperors responsible for the imperial
stability and prosperity were Cyrus and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To retain the power that emperors would have, Cyrus instituted checks and balances in this political
system; though satraps technically governed the provinces, the emperor had the power to institute
legislation that applied to the entire empire (Farazmand). Furthermore, the emperor would have the
ability to appoint, and if necessary, remove satraps from their positions. This ensured the loyalty of
satraps, as emperors could monitor them. This system of checks and balances resulted in a politically
efficient empire, in the context of both legislation and appointing government officials. This efficiency
encouraged Greeks and Romans to use similar techniques to manage their governmental systems,
contributing to the stability of their respective empires. Romans and Greeks were heavily influenced
by Persian administrative policies, establishing a satrapy system of local governorship (New World
Encyclopedia Contributors). With the existence of administrative divisions, Persians were given
province oriented legislation by their satraps. As a result, however, it became harder for the general
public to communicate directly with high ranking Persian officials, resulting in some bureaucratic
flaws.
The Achaemenid Empire s standardization of land and sea routes solidified their bureaucratic system,
inspiring Romans to do the same. The Persian Royal Road was constructed by Darius the Great in the
5th century BCE. It is considered to be the first

Dystopia In Brave New World
Brave New World is a novel written by Aldous Leonard Huxley, in 1931. It talked about a future
world, the technology is highly developed, people are standardized, and they can feel satisfied easily.
However, there is no emotions, individuality, freedom and morality in the society. This essay will talk
about the reasons of the Brave New World is dystopia. Dystopia is a place where everything is totally
unpleasant or bad, it is the antonym of utopia. Brave New World described a dystopian world, because
people use soma to escape from difficulties, people in the Brave New World are enslaved, and people
do not have the abilities to think deeply.
Brave New World is a dystopia because people s satisfaction is based on soma.

Server Controlled Multicast Chat System
SERVER CONTROLLED MULTICAST CHAT SYSTEM
INTRODUCTION
An assumption that is intrinsic to a basic communication involves two parties, the server and the
client. Here, our design is based on a chat application which involves one to many communication
(i.e., with one server and multiple clients, in which the server acts as the central system administrator
and has got control over all other clients who wish to join the network.
BRIEF OVERVIEW OF THE DESIGN: The Multicasting in java can be achieved by using the
sockets and thread concepts in the Java networking programming. We consider two sockets, one in the
server side that waits for the client messages on a particular port and the other in the client side to
receive messages from each ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Once the user logs into the system with his/her credentials provided the server is started intitially and
is waiting for the clients, it starts storing all the actions performed in a log called the Event log for the
corresponding user session. It requires the user to run the Client login program every time of a new
user wants to connect. The message sent by user hits the server first and the user makes it display on
all the screen of all other users who are online. This is the main focus of our design and is
implemented using the threading. Also, if a user logs off, all other users of the group will be notified
of it and the logged off users loses access over the application. He has to login again to achieve a
connection with the system once again.
SPECIAL ASSUMPTIONS: 1) A user who wishes to login can successfully login with any name,
provided the password is 12345 . The system is designed in such a way for simplicity as this is not the
main focus of our design.
2) Any multiple number of the users can login with the same username, because the system treats
them as different individuals as each and every client is referenced by a unique id.
3) Once a user wishes to log off, he sends a Goodbye message and the server disconnects him from
the application and notifies to all other users currently connected.
TESTING:
1) Our system works fine at both the circumstances, when the server

Human Nature And Awareness Toward Environmental Protection
Many individuals are unaware of the harm that they cause to our planet. We live in a society where we
eat and use electricity without knowing where it comes from or what damage it might cause to our
planet. We have needs that do no make sense to the rest of the world. While some of us enjoy our
luxurious meals, other individuals are given little choice. Richer countries have been accustomed to
the point where many are unaware of the problems that they cause. The ecological footprint is a very
good tool to show us how we use our nature and raise awareness toward environmental protection.
After taking my ecological footprint quiz I was surprised that my results were so poor. I think of
myself who is environmentally stable. I do not litter by throwing garbage on the streets, I even pick up
any garbage that I see thrown in sanitary places. My ecological footprint said that we would need 4.6
planets earths to provide enough resources if everyone lived like me. This quiz educated me that I am
not environmentally friendly as I think I am. Also, in order to support my lifestyle it takes about 22.6
tons of carbon dioxide. My main cause to this planet is my consumption of energy. Usually I drive
about 70 miles everyday because I commute to school. I never realized how much energy that takes
until now. Driving is one of the most polluting things that we do especially here in the United States.
Consumption of gasoline can release toxic wastes that can cause air pollution, which

Comparing Frankenstein And The Creature
At the first glance, Victor Frankenstein and his Creature appear as complete opposites with little to
nothing in common. Victor seems intelligent and humane while the Creature s actions insinuate that he
possesses uneducated and monstrous qualities. After becoming more familiar with the characters and
their actions, the pair still seem to have a few differences; however, they share some key
characteristics. Finally, after analyzing Frankenstein and the Creature s personalities and habits, it
becomes obvious that the two experience a shocking amount of affinities towards one another. These
similarities include loneliness and persistence. Other more specific examples involve their inclination
towards playing God and their hunger for knowledge. Demonstrated by the many examples provided
throughout the novel, the identifiable common traits between Frankenstein and the Creature
continuously develop as the reader obtains a greater understanding of their monstrous personalities.
The story begins by focusing on the Frankenstein family and specifically Victor who already displays
signs of isolation. During his childhood, he withdrew from the usual childish ways of living which
separated him from his siblings and peers. As he grew older and more mature, he focused primarily on
his education which he later followed to the University of Ingolstadt to study chemistry and natural
philosophy. He remained distant from his family there and concerned himself only with his

Character Analysis Of Andrew In Fly Away Home By Eve Bunting
Hopefull. That describes Andrew in Fly Away Home by Eve Bunting. Andrew lives in a airport. He
want the live a normal life but he can t because he s stuck in an airport without a home. Though in a
tough situation he still manages to keep a positive attitude, and he also is helpful. He is so young yet
he is still hopeful.
How would you react living in an airport since you were young, well Andrew manages to keep a
positive attitude. In the story Andrew said My dad and I live in the airport, that s because we don t
have a home and the airport is better than the streets. This shows his attitude while living in the airport
it s tough but he does not want to show his dad that he truly wants to live in a house. Andrew tries to
stay positive through the situation he s going through. But he is a lot more positive than most people
would be in his predicament. Another example on how Andrew is positive is when he saw the bird get
stuck in the airport, Don t stop trying! he told it silently. Don t! You can get out. This part is significant
to the story by showing how he is encouraging the bird to continue trying, that the bird can get out.
But this makes me wonder if maybe he was just talking to himself because he has no one to help him
stay positive. His dad surely does not encourage him his dad likes it at the airport his dad does not
understand what Andrew really wants, yet Andrew still fights and he still has hope. The last example
on how Andrew is positive is when he said Then I remember the bird, It took awhile but a door opened
and when the bird left, when it flew free, I knew it was singing. It is important to notice that before he
said this he almost lost hope, he got mad at the people around him because they had more than him.
But he then tried to focus on something positive this shows that he truly wants to have hope and be
positive.
Many people face challenges all the time. But the character Andrew in fly away home lives in an
airport and helps his dad to get out. One example is he can t get noticed by other people, they stay
among the crowds change airlines and sleep sitting up. Even though Andrew is just a kid he doesn t
complain about all the walking and trying not to get noticed. This is helpful

The History Of Animals Being Domesticated
The history of animals being domesticated starts as far back as 20,000 years ago, when large mammals
such as bison roamed the tundra of Europe and Asia. They were hunted widely by two groups of
hunters, both smaller and weaker than the bison, but both had sufficient developed social systems to
allow them to hunt and kill in packs. These two hunters were the humans and the wolves. These two
groups of hunters are surprisingly similar. Both are family based and led by a dominant male whose
female partner has authority second to his. All of the members are friendly towards each other, but
extremely suspicious of outsiders. All members are also protective of any newborn and young in the
pack, and both are good at interpreting the moods of others, by facial expression or other forms of
body language. Though humans and wolves started out competing for the same prey, but soon realized
the advantages for both of them in teaming up. On the side of the wolves, human ingenuity and the use
of weapons mean a share in a greater number of kill, and maybe a taste of bigger pretty they couldn t
take down alone, such as mammoths. On the side of humans, the speed of the wolves and ferocity is
equivalent to a new weapon altogether. The partnership between the two is natural. People love to
nurture an abandoned young animal, and a wolf cub is adapted to learn the rules of a hierarchical
human society. For a species like the wolf to become domesticated, it must be willing to breed in

Compare And Contrast Charlie Chaplin And Buster Keaton
Both Buster Keaton and Charlie Chaplin have a very disparate audience and appeal to different types
of people. Charlie Chaplin s comedy is well suited for anyone who enjoys lively, cheerful and
slapstick comedy. This is the majority of people, therefore Chaplin would have had a much larger
audience. In a time period where there was war and the great depression, people would have probably
gravitated towards Chaplin more than Keaton. Chaplin s Little Tramp image was far more recognized
than Keaton s image. At the peak of his popularity, his mustachioed screen persona, the Tramp, was
said to be the most recognized image in the world. (Vishnevetsky, AVclub.com) But, Keaton had, and
still has, a large audience as well. Many did not understand

Salvador Dali and Science Essay
Within the realm of Surrealism, more specifically the surrealist group, they contain works that are
overly subjective and involve definite notions to scientific observation of nature, as well as the
interpretations of dreams. Encapsulating the former ideas of Albert Einstein, there is a close
resemblance to theories that are at the very base of quantum mechanics. Upon further inspection,
Salvador Dali s artistic imagery and methodology, as well as André Breton s, could be seen as
expressions of lucid subconsciousness. For example, André Breton emphasized the necessity
understanding physics as a surrealist, in order to interpret or distort reality . Within Breton s Break of

Dali hides this fact by stating that an individual s consciousness to be more important than the reality
of external time or experiences.
Surrealism would be the perfect language to describe the real world discovered by Einstein. This can
be confirmed upon further inspection, as Dali goes on to say in The Sanitary Goat that: Physics in this
case is the kind that once can believe in that one can believe or interpret, even when it forms part of
the delirium; the physics which must create with new geometry of thought will be precisely...the
delirium of paranoiac interpretation . Though his association of relativity and paranoia here is a highly
subjective suggestion. In the late 1930 s Dali conceptualizes a method he called critical paranoia .
Unbeknownst at the time, this methodology would eventually lead to his expulsion from the surrealist
group. Dali described critical paranoia as a spontaneous method of irrational knowledge based on
systematic objectification and fantasizing interpretations. The goals was to allow his viewers to
understand his works as delusional, but be set in a somewhat agreeable clarity that made them seem
realistic; at the same time place them in his delirium mind state or a, systematic confusion and
contribution to the complete discrediting of the world of reality.
Back in 1986, Henri Bergson theorized the subject of dual time: objective time, which is determinate
and measurable and subjective time formed on the

The Panzer II and the General Sherman were generally equivalent, and could both take on all other
tanks. These tanks were the primary ground force for both Axis and Allied forces for about a year and
a half. At this time the U.S. produced the Great Sherman tank, and simultaneously the Axis forces
developed the Panzer III. The Great Sherman had reinforced 62mm armor. This tank also boasted a
75mm gun on a power turret. The Great Sherman was exceptionally maneuverable for its size, and
could travel 25 mph, which was very fast for a heavy tank model. Conversely the Panzer III had 2
layer 30mm armor, and was a very maneuverable medium tank with heavy firepower. The Panzer III
could easily defeat a Great Sherman in a close range battle, because of its rapid acceleration and fast
moving turret. The Panzer III was good, but soon the ally forces had to create a better tank. Nearing
the end of the war Ally forces finally fashioned a tank superior to the Panzer III. This tank boasted a
30mm turret gun, and a 75mm gun mounted on the hull; this tank was named the Grant Tank. It could
go through all other tanks like butter (Collier 90). This tank was so successful because of its extremely

How Did Julie Andrews Impact The Music Community
Julie Andrews has left her mark on a myriad of awards, titles, roles, styles, and even beloved
characters we all know and love with her natural grace and elegance. She has also experienced one of
the most fruitful, illustrious careers of all time. But even more significantly, Andrews has impacted the
music community by bringing a new air of elegance to the stage, raising the bar of vocal ability

Niccolo Machiavelli s The Qualities Of The Prince And Lao...
Government: A Profound Leader
Since the being of time, humans have sought out law, or government. Governments have been set in
place all throughout the world to try to maintain peace and order. As easy as it sounds, governments
can be demolished without the right leader. However, that is the catch, what makes a good leader?
Niccolo Machiavelli s The Qualities of the Prince and Lao Tzu s Tao te Ching gives some ideas on
how a leader should control their government. Although Machiavelli s and Lao Tzu s ideas do not
quite go hand and hand, there are some similarities. They both spoke similarly on how people should
feel about their leader. Lao Tzu views one of the best qualities of a leader is being loved by his people.
On the other hand, Machiavelli believes the best is to be loved and feared, but sense he thinks that is
impossible he had rather just be feared. Machiavelli and Lao Tzu are more opposite than alike.
According to Machiavelli, war should be a profession of a prince. He suggested a prince to think about
war all the time and know the surroundings constantly. However, Lao Tzu suggests a leader not to
force war on anyone because the outcome will result in revenge and not to waste time preparing for
war. Also, they had different views on what to do with their money. Machiavelli insisted on saving his
income for preparation of war, whereas Lao Tzu believed in sharing his money throughout the people.
Although Machiavelli and Lao Tzu would probably get in

We ve Got The Dirt On Guy Brains By Dave Barry
In Dave Barry s article We ve Got the Dirt on Guy Brains and the Deborah Tannen s Sex, Lies, and
Conversation , the authors discussed the difference between men and women in terms of specific
issues. However, their opinions of what reasons have led to certain differences diverged. This essay
aimed at providing a detailed examination of both articles by comparing some of the points. First of
all, I will discuss the shared point of both articles regarding the differences of men and women. Then
the I will move on taking about the major different opinions the two authors held. Once these have
been done, a brief examination of the the evidence in both articles. Although Barry and Tannen have
taken different approaches to examine the differences between men and women, as Barry s point was
based on housework while Tannen s discussion mainly focused on communication, it should be noted
that both of them agreed on the opinion that men and women are quite different from each other,
especially in terms of emotions and feeling. Barry and Tannen pointed out that women are more
inclined to share their feelings and emotions while men are not. In Barry s article, he has been quite
specific about this point by saying that some women (and here I am referring to my wife) can share as
many as three days worth of feelings about an event that take eight seconds to actually happen. We
men, on the other hand, are reluctant to share our feelings, in large part because we often don t have

Descriptive Essay On A Midnight Forest
I m laying down in grass and snow, in the middle of Midnight Forest. Judging by the beams of
moonlight coming in through the trees, it must be around midnight. I m not sure what I m doing here,
but I have a feeling of uncertainty. Saige. I hear a whisper from behind me. I whip around, and my
eyes scan what I thought was an empty forest. I shake my head and stand up, snowflakes floating off
of my winter coat and skirt.
I see my breath in the air, and it mesmerizes me for a second. A big clump of snow abruptly falls from
the trees. I gasp at the sudden noise and look up to where the snow fell from. An owl is looking down
at me, it s never blinking eyes looking into mine, and it feels like it s invading my brain.
My head starts to hurt, and I close my eyes and rub my temples. I reopen my eyes and the owl is right
in front of my face. I let out a small shriek and fall backward into the snow. All I can hear was my
uneven breaths. I hear a rustle in the bushes to my right, but the dark light proves a challenge to see
through. The rustling of the bushes stopped for a minute, and I felt an ephemeral moment of peace. I
stood up on shaky legs and took a deep breath in.
For some reason unknown, my brain wasn t begging me to leave the forest. In fact, I was drawn to
what looked like a neglected cabin. I felt captivated by the building, despite the archaic style. I took
slow but steady steps towards the old cabin.. Come in, The building whispered to me in an enthralling
way. My steps quickened and I ended up at a full on sprint to get inside the building.
I took my first step inside the creaky wooden door, and time seemed to slow. The ancient building
transformed into a state of the art building from the 1950 s. I felt like I was hallucinating. My vision
flashed between a room full of laughter and warmth, and a room full of blood and horror. I backed up
against a door and ran into someone. I began to mumble a sorry until I turned around.
There, one of the aliens that invaded our planet was looking at me, it s black eyes locked onto mine. I
screamed as loud as I could, and the scene became happy once more. Miss, are you okay? A lady in
asked me, a concerned look plastered on her face. The

This study replicates US based research by Hartman and Lindgren on the extent to which consumers
differentiate between products and services. In addition, Hartman and Lindgren investigated the
importance of four characteristics of services to consumers; intangibility, inseparability, heterogeneity
and perishability. Hartman and Lindgren did not find that these four service characteristics were used

element of the study. The most extreme studies on each dimension were used as end points and
provided a reference for the other studies. Studies in the left hand quadrants provided a thorough
review of two or more characteristics, whereas studies positioned in the right hand quadrant provided
a more superficial coverage of product/service characteristics and then concentrated on another aspect
of services marketing. Figure 1 demonstrates that the approach taken to research in this area so far has

Essay On Spirometry
I am going to presume that if you are reading this article on Jane s website, you have COPD [or other
lung disease]. I am also going to take a big leap and presume that you have all done a breathing test
called spirometry? I ask this because statistics show that a surprising number of people have been
diagnosed with COPD, but have never had spirometry done. That is like diagnosing a patient with
diabetes without ever testing their blood sugar level. Spirometry is done using a piece of equipment
called a spirometer. The term spiro comes from the Latin language and means to breathe, and meter
(derived from either Old English, French or Greek...take your pick) means to measure. The spirometer
is not a new invention. In 1846 an Englishman named John ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Affordable Health Care
I too believe that healthcare should be a right for all citizens. Health is defined by the World Health
Organization (WHO) as a state of complete physical, mental, and social well being (Macionis, 2015,
p. 267). Preventative and acute care is important to maintain health and is needed by everyone in the
world. Since the creation of the Affordable Care Act many have argued the negative repercussions of
the program often neglecting the positives. The fact is, most working adults (59.5%) are offered
insurance for themselves and their families at a discounted rate through their employers (Robert Wood
Johnson Foundation, 2013). Despite a 10% decline in employers that offer insurance compared to
2011, the option is still available for half of the working population (Robert Wood Johnson
Foundation, 2013). Small business owners that employ fifty or more employees are eligible to provide
subsidized health insurance for their employees (HealthCare.gov, 2016). In addition, 30.1% of
American s utilize either Medicaid or Medicare, a government program that aids or supplements
insurance cost ( Medicare and Medicaid, Age and Income Random Samplings, 2013) . The Affordable

because he never had them.
My father has been in and out of prison since April 29th, 2011. He gave me an understanding of adult

Wang Lung s Changes In The Good Earth
The novel, The Good Earth, by Pearl S. Buck, takes place outside of a small village in China during
the early twentieth century. Women, during this time period, have little say in anything involving their

Henry And Bronfenbrenner Essay
Kelly (1994) and Henry and Rickman (2007) apply similar conceptual frameworks of concentric
circles based on the ecological theory of Bronfenbrenner. Despite different research questions,
participants, methods, these two research projects are built on the same theoretical assumption that
human behaviors and the consequences of their behaviors are the outcomes of human interactions with
their own context. According to Bronfenbrenner s theory, each person is located in the core circle
entitled microsystems which often includes that person s family, school, peers, etc. Outside the
microsystem is the mesosystems where the interactions of related people in the microsystem conduct
with each other. In the next layer, exosystems, there are boarder communities that the person lives in,
for example, her/his neighborhood, the health care system, and so on. Macrosystems which are the
outer layer, refer to high level structures such as culture and subcultures, economic systems. ... Show

such as income, education obtainment, and so on, are measured. In the larger layers, the researchers

Do consumers have a connection with their shampoo brand? To find out, we interviewed four
individuals on their choices, associations, and purchasing decisions when it came to shampoo. The
aim of this research was to learn how consumer product relationships develop and relate to future
purchasing decisions with mundane products less than five pounds. From the interviewers, we
discovered how consumers relate to shampoo, their purchasing habits, price ... Show more content on

Our first recommendation is the Point System , although consumers tend to buy the same shampoo
brand for many years, they are still price sensitive and eager to make use of any potential offers or
discounts. We therefore suggest that shampoo marketers respond to this price sensitivity by offering
discounts to repeat users. Our final recommendation for shampoo marketing managers is Brand
Ambassadors , in our interviews we found that our subjects have been using the same brand for years
and that most of them started using the brand based on observing a member of their reference group
e.g. a family member. We therefore believe that marketers should highlight these two points by using
brand ambassadors.
Conclusion Through our interviews we aimed to understand the consumer product relationship
between individuals and their shampoo brand. As a group we were surprised by the level of brand
loyalty individuals have towards their shampoo. A successful marketing campaign should therefore
not only take into account the consumer decision making process but also the consumer product
relationship. As it is through exploiting and analyzing this relationship that marketers can capture new
customers and retain old customers. Marketing managers should not underestimate the power of the
consumer product relationship even for something as mundane and seemingly unimportant as

Not A Student Loan For College Essay
Abstract
The decision to attend college for most individuals yield promise of advancement in being able to
further one s learning, and assists with developing a marketable educational portfolio from an
institution of reputed academia. However, with the pursuit of obtaining a college degree from a
university, there are augmented concerns with student loans and repayment issues. In electing to

constraints for student borrowing, if ill prepared will substantially effect students in pre graduate or

repayment behavior which effects long term financial outlook. In examining the data on cumulative

In this particular part of the story, Jem is using Scout s gender to isolate her from a playing group.
Scout uses a large amount of courage to stand up to him and continue to play with whoever she likes.
However, she also had the courtesy of acting like a woman when she was required to. I carefully
picked up the tray and watched myself walk to Mrs. Merriweather. With my best company manners, I

also shown during the time of the trial. As her father was guarding Tom Robinson s cell, there were
some men that threatened him if he did not move. Scout used her courage to walk out of her hiding
place, despite her brother saying no, and stand up to the threatattacks. She talked to them about their
children and targeted them emotionally so that they would realize what they were about to do.

Building A More Secure System
Building A More Secure System
Sean Mitchell
Estrella Mountain Community College
English 102
Abstract
Studies show that in today s always online world, users are under a constant threat of infection from
various forms of malware. Because the average user now relies on a computer to perform many tasks
involving personal information and cannot necessarily be assumed to be savvy enough to protect
themselves from all of these threats, the author recommends that operating systems be designed in
such a way where security is considered a top priority. Various examples of best practices will be
discussed, which when put into practice can help ensure less savvy users enjoy a secure and safe
computing experience while still providing an enjoyable experience to users of all skill levels. We will
look at some of these practices which have already been put to use by companies such as Apple and
BlackBerry to see an example of how these practices are working out in the real world as well as how
they can be improved upon.
Building A More Secure System
In the early days of computing, viruses and malware were uncommon. Usually a user would only
encounter an occasional virus on a floppy that had been used in an infected computer, and removal
was fairly simple. Because home computers were not typically connected to a network, malicious
software could not transmit data to a remote system or allow an attacker to take control of an infected
system. Furthermore, the average computer user

How Does Rap Music Affect African American Culture
The Change The world we live in changes every day. Within these daily changes, music is not an
exception. According to Kate Conradin in the Controversial Rap Themes..., Rap music is a genre that
was born out of slave spiritual, blues, jazz, and soul as a musical expression of African American
traditions (Conrad, Dixon, and Zhang 135). Now, rap is associated with those who had a hard life , or
perceived their life to be at a lower place. In today s society Rap music is controversial. Many people
within our American society have mixed feelings regarding the nature of the lyrics. However, lyrics
are not the only issue within the rap community that are causing issues. Drug use, gender portrayals,
violent behavior, sex, and vulgar language are just a few major ... Show more content on

The degrading music considered to be rap is contributed mainly from African Americans (Herd 169).A
study was done by Herd stating that marijuana is one of the most talked about drugs in music (Herd
172). Maybe this is why so many children these days are smoking and considering legalization of
marijuana. Every child wants to be like a famous rapper, so why not smoke the same drugs they do? It
is just going to hurt people from getting jobs. These artists are ruining the future adults. Another study
involving music was in in the late 90 s. 1000 of the well know rap songs were played and it was
concluded that 63 percent of the songs were involving illegal drugs (Herd 168). One song that really
contributes to drugs is a song by Snoop Dogg Smoke Weed Everyday This song talks about drug
dealers selling every day and people needing to get their smoke and drink on. Snoop Dogg is
spreading bad influences towards our children, if our children listen to these lyrics and take it to that
max and actually do the drugs this world will come in an even worse

Avocado Research Paper
After you have enjoyed the delicious taste of an avocado, do not throw out the seed! You can grow a
beautiful houseplant or even your own tree by following these simple steps. First, wash the seed.
Second, dry it. Third, insert three toothpicks into its thickest part. Then fill a glass or empty jar with
water. After that, suspend the seed in the water with the pointed end up and the broad end down. The
water should cover about an inch of the seed. Next, put the glass in a warm place, but not in direct
sunlight. Add water when necessary to keep the bottom of the seed under water at all times. In two to
six weeks, you should see roots begin to grow. Furthermore, the seed will crack open, and then a stem
will emerge from the top. However, wait

Occupation In Auschwitz
There were thousands and thousands of people being brought into the concentration camps. There had
to be a way for them to keep everything organized. The people in command would register every
single Jew before they were put to work or sent to the buildings. After the prisoners were unloaded
from the truck or train, they were stripped of their personal belongings and clothes, and then they were
given a new uniform. Most of the time they were also shaved. The prisoners were then taken to be
inscribed with their number stamp and were also demanded to stand still while taking their picture
from three sides (Camp System). That was the painless part. Now came the beatings, demands,
torture, and starvation. The routine that was taken in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

different expectations set on them. They were usually told to sew, cook, work in fields, work in

The psychological genre as it relates to sociological and medicinal matters has gained an increasing
amount of scientific approval. Impartiality and the scientific method are both integral components to a

speculate at what makes human beings act the way they do. Absolutes play no function in psychology.
Everything is relative and open to conjecture. Theologians give us their visions or thoughts about life.

For many centuries, students of human nature considered the idea of an unconscious mind as self
contradictory. However, it was noticed by philosophers such as St. Augustine, and others, as well as
early experimental psychologists, including Gustav Sechner, and Hermann Von Helmholtz, that certain
psychological operations could take place without the knowledge of the subject. Jean Sharcot
demonstrated that the symptoms of post traumatic neuroses did not result from lesions of the nervous
tissue but from unconscious representations of the trauma. Pierre Janet extended this concept of
unconscious fixed ideas to hysteria, wherein traumatic representations, though split off from the
conscious mind, exert an action upon the conscious mind in the form of hysterical symptoms. Janet
was an important influence on Carl Jung, and he reported that the cure of several hysterical patients,
using hypnosis to discover the initial trauma and then having it reenacted by the patient, was
successful. Josef Breuer also treated a hysterical patient by inducing the hypnotic state and then
elucidating for her the circumstances which had accompanied the origin of her troubles. As the
traumatic experiences were revealed, the symptoms disappeared.
Freud substituted the specific techniques of free association and dream interpretation for hypnosis. He
stated that the content of the unconscious

The Role Of Minos In Dante s Inferno
Dante s Inferno is a great poem because of the allegorical aspects that Dante puts into this story. A
large aspect of this allegory is the guardians of the different parts of hell. These guardians are used to
describe the punishments administered in the different levels of hell. Minos the guardian of Circle two
guards the lustful. Minos administers the punishments to the sinners making him play the role of an
accuser. The sinner s bodies confess their sins, and they know all about themselves, but it is too late to
repent. Minos is used to stress because the sinners cannot deny the sins they committed which is
torture to them. The lustful are taken away by their passions from their lives before, and they are
tossed about by a wind. Dante considers lust to be the worst, because it s mutually committed by both
people. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Cerberus is portraying gluttony in mythology, he was known to eat anyone that approached hades,
which makes him a glutton as well. Being a glutton himself, he must give in to his uncontrollable
appetite. When Dante throws dirt in Cerberus mouth he is overtaken by his appetite, while he is
distracted the poets enter the circle. Cerberus is an example of how the soul is taken over by gluttony.
He cannot do his job when something to eat is offered even dirt. The sin is a dark one, because the
perpetrator worships food higher than God, this is represented as rain, which shows the true nature of
gluttony as something dark and twisted. Gluttons are alone because they ate alone, and they are sad
because their insatiable appetites can never be

Theodore Roethke s Poetry Analysis
Analysis of Theodore Roethke s Poetry Around the globe, there are a couple of authors who have been
put into the limelight by the quality of their work. Authors of books and poems play a vital role in
educating the community through communicating certain issues through writing. This paper focuses
on discussing and analyzing Theodore Roethke, one of the poets who have been recognized all over
the world and whose work has been read by many people from all over the world. The paper tries to
analyze some of the works that have been written by this author and discussion of some of the
techniques that he uses to ensure that he can pass his message in the most successful way. Theodore

The title The Waking is articulate as it effectively expresses the content compose in the poem as it
symbolizes the clarification and self discovery. It is a villanelle; consisting nineteen lines, consists of
five targets with a quatrain and has two rhymes from the beginning to the end. The first and the third
line of the targets recur alternately at the end of other targets, and they are repeated at the close of the
ending quatrain. In this poem, Roethke uses a leaf as the speaker. There can raise various questions on
why the author came up with a conclusion of using a leaf to speak in the poem. It can be because the
leaf is a universal thing, simple and observes many things that happen in life. The poem is about
intelligence at the self level, and the author has used various mediums to bring out a message in each
stanza differently (Gale page 12). To start with, the first stanza, the author keeps it clear that in life one
has to acquire knowledge and be shaped by the experience. In reality, every person falls asleep at
some time of the day and wakes up. Furthermore, it is a fact that everyone was born and the end of
existing in the world will be dead. In this case, the act of birth and life can be referred as the waking,
and death shows the sleep. Theodore Roethke puts it clearly that it is a must for one to change in a
lifetime and this is illustrated by the words waking slow from the first line of stanza one. He takes

The Pain Of Anne Bradstreet
Anne Bradstreet is very fond of her material possessions and her home. The pain, that she suffered, is
evident throughout the poem. Her life, for some time, had revolved around her domestic possessions.
To her these items represented her family, life, love, memories (past, present, and future), and possible
female inheritance. Bradstreet is deeply hurt by the loss of her material goods and possible questions
why God let such a thing happen. She had deeply invested herself, as well as her worth, within the
value of those items that she lost and was slowly streaming away from her spiritual connection to
God. Towards the end of the poem you can see a slow revelation that develops, which she acquires as
a consequence of her loss, and ultimately

Vertical Zonation and the Rocky Shore

Vertical Zonation and the Rocky Shore
According to Yonge (1949), the zoning of both plants and animals within the narrow vertical limits of
a rocky shore is one of the most striking features about shore life. It is noticeable particularly where
sessile organisms (such as barnacles) occur in abundance on the boundaries of their vertical
distribution, as they form a conspicuous line (Boaden Seed, 1985). The author has also been
particularly impressed by clear zonation patterns of brown algae often to be found on rocky shores.
Precise and universal demarcation of these zones is impossible (Brehaut, 1982), but a comprehension
of the vertical zonation of rocky shores is clearly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At mid shore, for example, exposure is 50 percent of the time to air, and 50 percent to water. This area
forms the eulittoral zone, and a greater number of species are found here than in the littoral fringe.
Communities found in this zone must be tolerant of short periods of exposure to air between the tides,
although they almost always require regular submersion or at least a thorough wetting (Tait and
Dipper, 1998). Species include barnacles, mussels, and other sessile forms such as oysters (Boaden
Seed, 1985). The barnacles commonly belong to such genera as Balanus, Chthamalus, and Tetraclita.
There is a strong tendency (Stephenson Stephenson, 1972) for this zone to be further divided into two
or three subzones. In lower subzones, barnacles may be obliterated or overshadowed by other
sedentary forms; but in the higher eulittoral subzones barnacles are greatest in concentration, and
show dominance. The eulittoral is bounded at the top end by the disappearance of barnacles in any
significant quantity (Stephenson Stephenson, 1972).
The lowest part of the shore is uncovered at extreme low water spring tide, never at neap tides, and is
known as the sublittoral zone. Where wave action is particularly strong, this zone may not even be
uncovered except when the lowest spring tides coincide with calm weather. As such, this zone is
exposed to the air for very short periods, and for a very small proportion, of time. In many places, it
never fully

  • 2. Comparing The Achaemenid Empire And The Imperial Stability... Throughout human civilization, it has been invariably true that the ideas and innovations belonging to particular societies have been adopted by both concurrent and later cultures. This has culminated in remarkably advanced societies, whose success can be attributed to that of their ancient counterparts. Much of the prosperity of modern civilization can certainly be accredited to the Achaemenid Empire, a pluralistic empire founded in 550 BCE. At its peak, it stretched from the Indus River Valley to the eastern Mediterranean coast. Despite its diversity, the empire remained politically and societally united throughout its existence. The two major Achaemenid emperors responsible for the imperial stability and prosperity were Cyrus and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To retain the power that emperors would have, Cyrus instituted checks and balances in this political system; though satraps technically governed the provinces, the emperor had the power to institute legislation that applied to the entire empire (Farazmand). Furthermore, the emperor would have the ability to appoint, and if necessary, remove satraps from their positions. This ensured the loyalty of satraps, as emperors could monitor them. This system of checks and balances resulted in a politically efficient empire, in the context of both legislation and appointing government officials. This efficiency encouraged Greeks and Romans to use similar techniques to manage their governmental systems, contributing to the stability of their respective empires. Romans and Greeks were heavily influenced by Persian administrative policies, establishing a satrapy system of local governorship (New World Encyclopedia Contributors). With the existence of administrative divisions, Persians were given province oriented legislation by their satraps. As a result, however, it became harder for the general public to communicate directly with high ranking Persian officials, resulting in some bureaucratic flaws. The Achaemenid Empire s standardization of land and sea routes solidified their bureaucratic system, inspiring Romans to do the same. The Persian Royal Road was constructed by Darius the Great in the 5th century BCE. It is considered to be the first ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. Dystopia In Brave New World Brave New World is a novel written by Aldous Leonard Huxley, in 1931. It talked about a future world, the technology is highly developed, people are standardized, and they can feel satisfied easily. However, there is no emotions, individuality, freedom and morality in the society. This essay will talk about the reasons of the Brave New World is dystopia. Dystopia is a place where everything is totally unpleasant or bad, it is the antonym of utopia. Brave New World described a dystopian world, because people use soma to escape from difficulties, people in the Brave New World are enslaved, and people do not have the abilities to think deeply. • 5. Server Controlled Multicast Chat System SERVER CONTROLLED MULTICAST CHAT SYSTEM INTRODUCTION An assumption that is intrinsic to a basic communication involves two parties, the server and the client. Here, our design is based on a chat application which involves one to many communication (i.e., with one server and multiple clients, in which the server acts as the central system administrator and has got control over all other clients who wish to join the network. BRIEF OVERVIEW OF THE DESIGN: The Multicasting in java can be achieved by using the sockets and thread concepts in the Java networking programming. We consider two sockets, one in the server side that waits for the client messages on a particular port and the other in the client side to receive messages from each ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Once the user logs into the system with his/her credentials provided the server is started intitially and is waiting for the clients, it starts storing all the actions performed in a log called the Event log for the corresponding user session. It requires the user to run the Client login program every time of a new user wants to connect. The message sent by user hits the server first and the user makes it display on all the screen of all other users who are online. This is the main focus of our design and is implemented using the threading. Also, if a user logs off, all other users of the group will be notified of it and the logged off users loses access over the application. He has to login again to achieve a connection with the system once again. SPECIAL ASSUMPTIONS: 1) A user who wishes to login can successfully login with any name, provided the password is 12345 . The system is designed in such a way for simplicity as this is not the main focus of our design. 2) Any multiple number of the users can login with the same username, because the system treats them as different individuals as each and every client is referenced by a unique id. 3) Once a user wishes to log off, he sends a Goodbye message and the server disconnects him from the application and notifies to all other users currently connected. TESTING: 1) Our system works fine at both the circumstances, when the server ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Human Nature And Awareness Toward Environmental Protection Many individuals are unaware of the harm that they cause to our planet. We live in a society where we eat and use electricity without knowing where it comes from or what damage it might cause to our planet. We have needs that do no make sense to the rest of the world. While some of us enjoy our luxurious meals, other individuals are given little choice. Richer countries have been accustomed to the point where many are unaware of the problems that they cause. The ecological footprint is a very good tool to show us how we use our nature and raise awareness toward environmental protection. After taking my ecological footprint quiz I was surprised that my results were so poor. I think of myself who is environmentally stable. I do not litter by throwing garbage on the streets, I even pick up any garbage that I see thrown in sanitary places. My ecological footprint said that we would need 4.6 planets earths to provide enough resources if everyone lived like me. This quiz educated me that I am not environmentally friendly as I think I am. Also, in order to support my lifestyle it takes about 22.6 tons of carbon dioxide. My main cause to this planet is my consumption of energy. Usually I drive about 70 miles everyday because I commute to school. I never realized how much energy that takes until now. Driving is one of the most polluting things that we do especially here in the United States. Consumption of gasoline can release toxic wastes that can cause air pollution, which ... • 7. Comparing Frankenstein And The Creature At the first glance, Victor Frankenstein and his Creature appear as complete opposites with little to nothing in common. Victor seems intelligent and humane while the Creature s actions insinuate that he possesses uneducated and monstrous qualities. After becoming more familiar with the characters and their actions, the pair still seem to have a few differences; however, they share some key characteristics. Finally, after analyzing Frankenstein and the Creature s personalities and habits, it becomes obvious that the two experience a shocking amount of affinities towards one another. These similarities include loneliness and persistence. Other more specific examples involve their inclination towards playing God and their hunger for knowledge. Demonstrated by the many examples provided throughout the novel, the identifiable common traits between Frankenstein and the Creature continuously develop as the reader obtains a greater understanding of their monstrous personalities. The story begins by focusing on the Frankenstein family and specifically Victor who already displays signs of isolation. During his childhood, he withdrew from the usual childish ways of living which separated him from his siblings and peers. As he grew older and more mature, he focused primarily on his education which he later followed to the University of Ingolstadt to study chemistry and natural philosophy. He remained distant from his family there and concerned himself only with his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Character Analysis Of Andrew In Fly Away Home By Eve Bunting Hopefull. That describes Andrew in Fly Away Home by Eve Bunting. Andrew lives in a airport. He want the live a normal life but he can t because he s stuck in an airport without a home. Though in a tough situation he still manages to keep a positive attitude, and he also is helpful. He is so young yet he is still hopeful. How would you react living in an airport since you were young, well Andrew manages to keep a positive attitude. In the story Andrew said My dad and I live in the airport, that s because we don t have a home and the airport is better than the streets. This shows his attitude while living in the airport it s tough but he does not want to show his dad that he truly wants to live in a house. Andrew tries to stay positive through the situation he s going through. But he is a lot more positive than most people would be in his predicament. Another example on how Andrew is positive is when he saw the bird get stuck in the airport, Don t stop trying! he told it silently. Don t! You can get out. This part is significant to the story by showing how he is encouraging the bird to continue trying, that the bird can get out. But this makes me wonder if maybe he was just talking to himself because he has no one to help him stay positive. His dad surely does not encourage him his dad likes it at the airport his dad does not understand what Andrew really wants, yet Andrew still fights and he still has hope. The last example on how Andrew is positive is when he said Then I remember the bird, It took awhile but a door opened and when the bird left, when it flew free, I knew it was singing. It is important to notice that before he said this he almost lost hope, he got mad at the people around him because they had more than him. But he then tried to focus on something positive this shows that he truly wants to have hope and be positive. Many people face challenges all the time. But the character Andrew in fly away home lives in an airport and helps his dad to get out. One example is he can t get noticed by other people, they stay among the crowds change airlines and sleep sitting up. Even though Andrew is just a kid he doesn t complain about all the walking and trying not to get noticed. This is helpful ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. The History Of Animals Being Domesticated The history of animals being domesticated starts as far back as 20,000 years ago, when large mammals such as bison roamed the tundra of Europe and Asia. They were hunted widely by two groups of hunters, both smaller and weaker than the bison, but both had sufficient developed social systems to allow them to hunt and kill in packs. These two hunters were the humans and the wolves. These two groups of hunters are surprisingly similar. Both are family based and led by a dominant male whose female partner has authority second to his. All of the members are friendly towards each other, but extremely suspicious of outsiders. All members are also protective of any newborn and young in the pack, and both are good at interpreting the moods of others, by facial expression or other forms of body language. Though humans and wolves started out competing for the same prey, but soon realized the advantages for both of them in teaming up. On the side of the wolves, human ingenuity and the use of weapons mean a share in a greater number of kill, and maybe a taste of bigger pretty they couldn t take down alone, such as mammoths. On the side of humans, the speed of the wolves and ferocity is equivalent to a new weapon altogether. The partnership between the two is natural. People love to nurture an abandoned young animal, and a wolf cub is adapted to learn the rules of a hierarchical human society. For a species like the wolf to become domesticated, it must be willing to breed in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Charlie Chaplin s comedy is well suited for anyone who enjoys lively, cheerful and slapstick comedy. This is the majority of people, therefore Chaplin would have had a much larger audience. In a time period where there was war and the great depression, people would have probably gravitated towards Chaplin more than Keaton. Chaplin s Little Tramp image was far more recognized than Keaton s image. At the peak of his popularity, his mustachioed screen persona, the Tramp, was said to be the most recognized image in the world. • 12. Salvador Dali and Science Essay Within the realm of Surrealism, more specifically the surrealist group, they contain works that are overly subjective and involve definite notions to scientific observation of nature, as well as the interpretations of dreams. Encapsulating the former ideas of Albert Einstein, there is a close resemblance to theories that are at the very base of quantum mechanics. Upon further inspection, Salvador Dali s artistic imagery and methodology, as well as André Breton s, could be seen as expressions of lucid subconsciousness. For example, André Breton emphasized the necessity understanding physics as a surrealist, in order to interpret or distort reality . Dali hides this fact by stating that an individual s consciousness to be more important than the reality of external time or experiences. Surrealism would be the perfect language to describe the real world discovered by Einstein. This can be confirmed upon further inspection, as Dali goes on to say in The Sanitary Goat that: Physics in this case is the kind that once can believe in that one can believe or interpret, even when it forms part of the delirium; the physics which must create with new geometry of thought will be precisely...the delirium of paranoiac interpretation . Though his association of relativity and paranoia here is a highly subjective suggestion. In the late 1930 s Dali conceptualizes a method he called critical paranoia . Unbeknownst at the time, this methodology would eventually lead to his expulsion from the surrealist group. Dali described critical paranoia as a spontaneous method of irrational knowledge based on systematic objectification and fantasizing interpretations. The goals was to allow his viewers to understand his works as delusional, but be set in a somewhat agreeable clarity that made them seem realistic; at the same time place them in his delirium mind state or a, systematic confusion and contribution to the complete discrediting of the world of reality. Much like the engineers, the generals and officers were required to develop new ways of outsmarting their enemy. The Panzer II and the General Sherman were generally equivalent, and could both take on all other tanks. These tanks were the primary ground force for both Axis and Allied forces for about a year and a half. At this time the U.S. produced the Great Sherman tank, and simultaneously the Axis forces developed the Panzer III. The Great Sherman had reinforced 62mm armor. This tank also boasted a 75mm gun on a power turret. The Great Sherman was exceptionally maneuverable for its size, and could travel 25 mph, which was very fast for a heavy tank model. Conversely the Panzer III had 2 layer 30mm armor, and was a very maneuverable medium tank with heavy firepower. The Panzer III could easily defeat a Great Sherman in a close range battle, because of its rapid acceleration and fast moving turret. The Panzer III was good, but soon the ally forces had to create a better tank. Nearing the end of the war Ally forces finally fashioned a tank superior to the Panzer III. This tank boasted a 30mm turret gun, and a 75mm gun mounted on the hull; this tank was named the Grant Tank. It could go through all other tanks like butter (Collier 90). This tank was so successful because of its extremely thick reinforced steel plate. Though these tanks ruled the ground, the water was another story. Governments have been set in place all throughout the world to try to maintain peace and order. As easy as it sounds, governments can be demolished without the right leader. However, that is the catch, what makes a good leader? Niccolo Machiavelli s The Qualities of the Prince and Lao Tzu s Tao te Ching gives some ideas on how a leader should control their government. Although Machiavelli s and Lao Tzu s ideas do not quite go hand and hand, there are some similarities. They both spoke similarly on how people should feel about their leader. Lao Tzu views one of the best qualities of a leader is being loved by his people. On the other hand, Machiavelli believes the best is to be loved and feared, but sense he thinks that is impossible he had rather just be feared. Machiavelli and Lao Tzu are more opposite than alike. According to Machiavelli, war should be a profession of a prince. He suggested a prince to think about war all the time and know the surroundings constantly. However, Lao Tzu suggests a leader not to force war on anyone because the outcome will result in revenge and not to waste time preparing for war. Judging by the beams of moonlight coming in through the trees, it must be around midnight. I m not sure what I m doing here, but I have a feeling of uncertainty. Saige. I hear a whisper from behind me. I whip around, and my eyes scan what I thought was an empty forest. I shake my head and stand up, snowflakes floating off of my winter coat and skirt. An owl is looking down at me, it s never blinking eyes looking into mine, and it feels like it s invading my brain. My head starts to hurt, and I close my eyes and rub my temples. I reopen my eyes and the owl is right in front of my face. I let out a small shriek and fall backward into the snow. All I can hear was my uneven breaths. I hear a rustle in the bushes to my right, but the dark light proves a challenge to see through. The rustling of the bushes stopped for a minute, and I felt an ephemeral moment of peace. I stood up on shaky legs and took a deep breath in. For some reason unknown, my brain wasn t begging me to leave the forest. In fact, I was drawn to what looked like a neglected cabin. I felt captivated by the building, despite the archaic style. I took slow but steady steps towards the old cabin.. Come in, The building whispered to me in an enthralling way. Building A More Secure System Building A More Secure System Sean Mitchell Estrella Mountain Community College English 102 Abstract Studies show that in today s always online world, users are under a constant threat of infection from various forms of malware. Because the average user now relies on a computer to perform many tasks involving personal information and cannot necessarily be assumed to be savvy enough to protect themselves from all of these threats, the author recommends that operating systems be designed in such a way where security is considered a top priority. Various examples of best practices will be discussed, which when put into practice can help ensure less savvy users enjoy a secure and safe computing experience while still providing an enjoyable experience to users of all skill levels. We will look at some of these practices which have already been put to use by companies such as Apple and BlackBerry to see an example of how these practices are working out in the real world as well as how they can be improved upon. Building A More Secure System In the early days of computing, viruses and malware were uncommon. Usually a user would only encounter an occasional virus on a floppy that had been used in an infected computer, and removal was fairly simple. Because home computers were not typically connected to a network, malicious software could not transmit data to a remote system or allow an attacker to take control of an infected system. However, it was noticed by philosophers such as St. Augustine, and others, as well as early experimental psychologists, including Gustav Sechner, and Hermann Von Helmholtz, that certain psychological operations could take place without the knowledge of the subject. Jean Sharcot demonstrated that the symptoms of post traumatic neuroses did not result from lesions of the nervous tissue but from unconscious representations of the trauma. Pierre Janet extended this concept of unconscious fixed ideas to hysteria, wherein traumatic representations, though split off from the conscious mind, exert an action upon the conscious mind in the form of hysterical symptoms. Janet was an important influence on Carl Jung, and he reported that the cure of several hysterical patients, using hypnosis to discover the initial trauma and then having it reenacted by the patient, was successful. Josef Breuer also treated a hysterical patient by inducing the hypnotic state and then elucidating for her the circumstances which had accompanied the origin of her troubles. As the traumatic experiences were revealed, the symptoms disappeared. Freud substituted the specific techniques of free association and dream interpretation for hypnosis. It can be because the leaf is a universal thing, simple and observes many things that happen in life. The poem is about intelligence at the self level, and the author has used various mediums to bring out a message in each stanza differently (Gale page 12). Vertical Zonation and the Rocky Shore Student Number: 500890847 Candidate Number: 14822 Vertical Zonation and the Rocky Shore According to Yonge (1949), the zoning of both plants and animals within the narrow vertical limits of a rocky shore is one of the most striking features about shore life. It is noticeable particularly where sessile organisms (such as barnacles) occur in abundance on the boundaries of their vertical distribution, as they form a conspicuous line (Boaden Seed, 1985). At mid shore, for example, exposure is 50 percent of the time to air, and 50 percent to water. This area forms the eulittoral zone, and a greater number of species are found here than in the littoral fringe. Communities found in this zone must be tolerant of short periods of exposure to air between the tides, although they almost always require regular submersion or at least a thorough wetting (Tait and Dipper, 1998). Species include barnacles, mussels, and other sessile forms such as oysters (Boaden Seed, 1985). The barnacles commonly belong to such genera as Balanus, Chthamalus, and Tetraclita. There is a strong tendency (Stephenson Stephenson, 1972) for this zone to be further divided into two or three subzones. In lower subzones, barnacles may be obliterated or overshadowed by other sedentary forms; but in the higher eulittoral subzones barnacles are greatest in concentration, and show dominance. The eulittoral is bounded at the top end by the disappearance of barnacles in any significant quantity (Stephenson Stephenson, 1972). The lowest part of the shore is uncovered at extreme low water spring tide, never at neap tides, and is known as the sublittoral zone.
