A Major Measure Of Biological Fitness
A major measure of biological fitness in a population is the fecundity, or reproductive success rate, of
female organisms (Berger et al, 2008). For insects in particular many factors influence the number of
eggs produced during the lifetime of a female. One key factor in insect reproduction is the ambient
environmental temperature. Insects are ectothermic and therefore rely on their environment to provide
the heat needed to carry out normal reproductive functions. Ambient heat dependence for insects has
been thought to have a greater effect on fertility success than other contributing factors such as
increased female body size. Studies by Berger and others have shown that the European speckled
wood butterfly, Pararge aegeria, can only reproduce in the temperature range of 8°C and 14 °C even
when controlling for larger female body sizes. The findings of the study suggest that temperature can
limit insect reproduction in two specific ways. First, the development of the egg may be inhibited by
temperature ranges that are outside the preferred range of the insect. Second, the female s range of
time she is able to lay eggs is reduced when the temperature of the immediate environment is not
conducive to the survival of her offspring (Berger et al, 2008). Thus, temperature is a paramount factor
when considering the success rate of many insect species.
Other studies have shown the importance of temperature on reproductive success of certain insects
and the implications that

Malcom X s Use Of Critical Thinking In The Critique Of...
In 1946 Malcolm Little was convicted of robbery and received a 10 year sentence in Charlestown
prison. Here he taught himself how to read and write, using materials provided by the prison s library
to aid in his education; consequently, he also learned about the racial injustices throughout history.
After 7 years, Malcolm X was granted parole and released from prison and joined the Civil Rights
Movement under the name Malcolm X. In a section of his autobiography Malcolm X argues the
importance of critical thinking in educational and research purposes. Critical thinking allows the
reader to gauge whether the information gained from a particular source can be accepted as fact,
depending on how it fits into the information given by other sources. He uses his experiences, the texts
that he used in his education, pathos arguments, and metaphor to further his point. The use of narrative
as the medium forces Malcolm X to rely heavily on the experiences he had while studying in prison to
provide support for his argument. He provides sufficient evidence on how he thinks the history of
colored society should be portrayed and this is shown with a list of texts that he has read during the
course of his prison studies. One of the texts Malcolm X describes provides strong examples of
historical events that are not mentioned in the United States. The piece Sex and Race by J.A Rogers
told about race mixing before Christ s time; and Aesop being a black man who told fables; and about

THE MERIT CORPORATION 1
THE MERIT CORPORATION Family owned and operated for three generations, the Merit
Corporation manufactured and sold children s furniture. John Kirschner, Merit s CEO and grandson of
the company s founder, was actively involved with every aspect of the firm s operations. Now, as he
was considering early retirement in the next few years, he began to think about his legacy for the
future. Merit s headquarters and the biggest of its three manufacturing plants were located in an
industrial park 10 miles outside of Boston. Merit shared the large six story building with several small
firms, having its corporate offices on the second and third floors. Employees began work promptly at
8:30 a.m. and most left before 6:00 p.m. A devout family man, ... Show more content on

Kirschner, who had attracted the above individuals based on his compelling vision that they would be
doing something completely different and of vital importance, believed that the group would be most
effective if given extensive freedom and encouragement. The only things he required from it was a
biweekly progress report, so that the executive committee could be kept abreast of its activities, and a
monthly financial report. Group members were free to work as they wished; as long as they focused
their energies on coming up with viable ideas for durable, multipurpose children s furniture products
those consumers would consider a good value. The only structure he imposed was having one person
report directly to him. Thus, he appointed Kane the group head, in large measure because Kane was
the first to be hired, but also because he had made such a positive impression on him. When the eight
people began work at Merit, they did not know each other. Given Kirschner s rather broad mandate,
they also did not know what they would be expected to do on a daily basis. They soon discovered that
they had different ideas not only about what they should do, but also about how they should approach
their work. Those like Jacobson, who had worked in large corporate environments in the past, were
the most outspoken about how the group should approach its task. He was a proponent of a more
systematic approach. Kiris was

Essay The Oakland School District
THE OAKLAND SCHOOL DISTRICT BUSINESS PURCHASING 104 170 MARCH 6, 2012
OVERVIEW In reviewing an analysis of his school district s paper buying habits, supply manager
Gene Smith uncovered some interesting statistics regarding the Oakland School District s supply
ordering habits. Through the growth of the school district, purchase orders for supplies had risen to
astronomical levels. Over the course of the previous year, purchase orders (including original orders
and change orders) had grown to an astounding 36,842, or nearly 3,100 orders per month. These
orders came from one or more of approximately 1,300 suppliers. Even more astonishing was the low
average value of each of these orders. 35 percent of the orders placed were ... Show more content on

One issue that may arise is the unwillingness of a person or department to bend on an issue that could
save time in another area of the process. Another issue could be the follow up required after the big
meeting. Additionally, if the process becomes stagnant, the managerial Champions for Change must
be able and willing to motivate the cross functional team in a timely fashion to get the job done. If for
some reason even the perception of managerial support slips, the team s hopes for change may be
dashed as well. A second recommendation would be to encourage each school in the district to have a
stock of inventory on hand in each building. This is not to say that each building should have
storeroom after storeroom full of just in case supplies. Utilizing the most current, complete two years
of data, an analysis of each school s supplies should be conducted. From that information, which
should be easy to obtain based on the amount of information that the accounting department requires
for each and every order, it should be obvious what each school s top ten regularly ordered supplies
are. By completing the school by school analysis and allowing each location to place a once per
quarter or once per semester stock supply order, each school will reduce waste in the form of time and
will save money by filling that time with a value added function. Some issues that may arise with this

An Examination And Evaluation Of How Each Of The...
An examination and evaluation of how each of the
four principles can be applied to a scenario pertaining
to refusal of care when it involves blood transfusion
Richard Sensalo

Nate Elam.
Refusal of care:
This is a situation when a patient declines any or parts of any care. Usually this remains the case
despite the effort or numerous attempts by the health care providers or physicians informing the
patient about the benefits of the treatment.
Jehovah s witnesses do have authenticated right to decline blood transfusion. Patients do have the
right to decline treatment despite the fact that some may be suffering with a terminal illness.
However, exceptions do apply when the physician deems the situation to be dangerous for a
vulnerable third party. If there is any form of threat or prevalent danger that could bring harm to third
party such as tuberculosis, then the physician may refuse treatment. In such a scenario, the patient has
to be quarantined and treated until they pose no more risk.
Examination and evaluation of the ethical principles in Accordance with refusal of care:
Autonomy:
Patients are entitled to the right of declining treatment as they exercise one of the principles of care,
which is autonomy. This principle gives the patient the right to make decisions about their medical
care without their physician or health care provider coercing them to accept treatment or influencing
their decision.
However, for a

Should Schools Keep Junk Food
Keep junk foods in school cafeterias The controversial topic of childhood obesity has been going on
for a long time and because of it, many schools are debating if they should ban junk food from school
cafeterias or not. There are many opinions on what step should be taken to solve this problem. Some
say too ban junk food and some say it should not be banned. It should be up to the kids and the parents
as too what kids eat and not the government. By banning junk food in one place doesn t mean it s
going to stop them from eating sugary foods they can get it from another place. One of the reasons
why junk food should not be banned from school cafeteria is because the cafeteria isn t the only
source kids have too unhealthy foods. Kids in school can go just around the block to the gas station or
minimart and buy all sorts of junk foods, probably even more than what they can buy in school from
vending machines and the lunch lines combined. Like Rosenthal said, at some open campus schools
have made it a practice to walk to nearby mini marts and gas stations to buy the same products they
used to purchase in the vending machines (9). This quote tells us that campuses have made it easier for
students to go out during school and or afterschool to purchase the junk food they want. A school
administration recently did an experiment to see if students could purchase individual food and
beverage items, either from vending machines, school store, canteen, snack bar or a la carte

Silent Generation Vs. Centennials
The Silent Generation that many grandparents were born in and the Centennials are very diverse. The
younger generation has a very negative reputation and are known for being quite cynical. Some traits
commonly used to describe children now consist of being self centered and entitled. While
Centennials are looked at as being a certain way, the Silent generation is known for more positive
attributes. These include being insanely hard workers and keeping to themselves about daily life,
hence where the phrase originated, children should be seen and not heard. School during the 1950s in
comparison to the 2000s is incredibly multifarious due to common rules, technology, and social
standards. The typical length of school days during the 20th and 21st centuries are fairly
interchangeable. For instance, both time periods range from 7:30 start times to 3:00 dismissals. Many
students are involved in extracurricular activities that start before the bell, or run after school. After a
long day of school and extracurriculars, that can lead to very little time to be spent at home, working,
or pursuing hobbies. The courses that were offered tend to stay the same, with more advanced courses
appearing progressively. Currently in public schools, there are programs for ... Show more content on

With Centennials being viewed as irresponsible and irrational human beings, and the Silents being
thought of as hard working, deserving, and well mannered. The differences between school days then
and now are very controversial. It is argued that school has gone downhill in many aspects. When
people think about school in the 20th and the 21st centuries, it is easy to think with hearing things
about the current generation, that everything is going downhill. However, getting a glimpse into the

The Effect Of Noble s Technique And Ta Training On Reducing
Proposal: Effect of Two Different Exercises on Reducing IRD in DRA
Research Question: What is the effect of Noble s Technique and TA training on reducing
Abstract
Background and Significance By the third trimester, 2 in 3 pregnant women develop diastasis rectus
abdomen (DRA). Although the DRA onset is painless, it is associated with other complications
including low back pain, pelvic dysfunction and altered abdominal strength. Despite the high
prevalence of DRA, there is little research on conservative therapy treatments. Purpose This study
aims to determine the effectiveness of two exercises, TA training and Noble s Technique, on reducing
inter recti distance (IRD) in post partum women and to secondarily look at changes in pain. Methods

Although the development of DRA is often painless,4 DRA is associated with other complications.
DRA causes disruption in the abdominal wall, which may affect core stability, posture, trunk motions
and low back pain.1,5 Because of the painless nature of a DRA,4 women s health PTs found most of
their patients with DRA were referred with other diagnoses, the most being low back pain followed by
floor dysfunction, pelvic pain, and urinary incontinence.2
One study found that women with DRA have higher chance of increased pelvic and abdominal pain
compared to women without DRA.6 Another study looking at urogynecological patients found
prevalence of DRA in 52% of those patients.7 Although this has not been determined to be a causal
relationship, an association has been demonstrated between the presence of DRA and increased
number of pelvic floor dysfunctions (including myofascial pelvic pain, incontinence and prolapse)
compared to patients without DRA.7 In addition to having pain, subjects with IRD over 3.5 cm were
less successful at performing pelvic tilt and trunk curls than subjects without DRA.8 DRA presence
alters the line of force of the RA and this change in biomechanics results in reduced torque production

Child Abuse And Sexual Abuse
There are many forms of child abuse. Not only can children be physically abused, but they are also in
danger of experiencing sexual abuse. In the more recent years, child sexual abuse has come to the
attention of a larger part of society. As such, it is becoming more openly discussed. Child sexual abuse
is a growing problem, and the stories that have begun to circulate around the world work to illustrate
just how serious the problem is. Despite what society is lead to believe, the sexual abuse of a child is
the least common out of all forms of child abuse. Out of the different types of child abuse, neglect is
the most common, followed by physical abuse, and then sexual abuse comes at the bottom. Still, of all
the cases of child abuse reported to and substantiated by authorities, approximately 15% of them
concerned sexual abuse. ). It is possible that there are more cases of child sexual abuse, however, and
they simply are not being reported. Due to the number of undisclosed cases of child abuse, researchers
have conducted various prevalence studies over the years to determine the true number of sexual
abuse of children. These studies have determined that around 20% of women and 5 10% of men in
America in were sexually abused as children. A great deal of controversy surrounds the number of
male victims of child sexual abuse, due to a lack of quality studies. The problem with prevalence
studies is that they don t all share the same definition of abuse, nor do they share

Reflection Paper On Domestic Violence
On Monday, December 25, 2017, at approximately 1308 hours, I responded to 1032 Worthington
Spring Drive, Melbourne, Brevard County, Florida 32940 in reference to a disturbance. Upon arrival, I
made contact with four family members who advised they reside at the location. I separated each
subject and conducted interviews regarding the domestic violence statements made to dispatch.
The first two subjects I interviewed was the two witnesses, Ms. Denise Iverson (Witness 1) and Ms.

suffering from depression lately. Earlier today (December 25, 2017), Mr. Elijah Morris starting
drinking alcohol and it caused issues with his depression. After becoming intoxicated, Mr. Elijah
Morris went into his brother s (other grandson) bedroom and started an argument with his brother, Mr.
Riley Morris (Victim). When the argument started, she approached the bedroom and observed Mr.
Elijah Morris committed battery by grabbing Mr. Riley Morris in the area of his neck. Ms. Iverson
advised it appeared Mr. Elijah Morris attempted to choke Mr. Riley Morris, but was unable to do so
during the physical altercation. When the physical altercation started, Ms. Iverson called the sheriff s
office for assistance. The two brothers were separated and Mr. Elijah Morris attempted to leave the
residence. Ms. Iverson also advised Mr. Elijah Morris had two pocket knives in his possession (in

Propaganda Poster Analysis
The propaganda poster Are You? by Lori Song explicitly uncovers the reality and future of the comfort
women controversy between Korea and Japan. A sensitive part of both countries history, comfort
women were Korean females who were sent to Japanese armies as sex slaves during WWII, a time
when Korea was colonized by Japan. In 2015, the two countries settled an agreement that was
considered the final talk on the issue. As part of the settlement, Japan gave $8.3 million as reparation
and Korea agreed to work on removing the comfort woman statue in front of the Japanese embassy the
comfort women survivors were excluded from the process. Many Koreans and Japanese believe that
people should yield to the settlement to end complications. The ... Show more content on

In the poster, a hand is covering the mouth of the comfort woman statue. Suppressing the comfort
women voices from coming out to the world, the hand could represent the Japanese and Korean
governments. The hand could also symbolize those turning a blind eye to the victims, discouraging the
survivors from speaking up about their experiences against a careless society. Not specifying the
owner of the hand implies how whether the audience is the aforementioned or the later is of minor
importance. The two are essentially equal to the comfort women in how they both neglect a
horrendous part of their history and cause society to forget about the victims and their sufferings. To
express the comfort women s disappointment towards the ignorant people and the governments, the
author structures the red title vertically, drawing an image of bloody tears. The resentful title haunts
the audience with the torturous memories the comfort women had to burden in spite of an ignorant
society. Being standardized to a brutal subject along with the oppressive governments, the viewers are
abashed by and come to feel responsible for the reality their ignorance have

The Origins Of Attachment Theory
The origins of Attachment theory can be traced to the influential work of John Bowlby (1958).
Bowlby s work as a psychiatrist in a Child Guidance Clinic in London caused him to consider the
significance of the child s relationship with their mother in terms of their cognitive, emotional and
social development. Specifically, it contributed to enthralling his interests surrounding the link
between early infant separations with the mother and later maladjustment, leading Bowlby to
formulate the Theory of Attachment. Bowlby argues that this attachment between the mother and child
is different in a qualitative form from any other form attachment. This theory, although seminal, holds
many criticisms from others, stating that children learn more from their peers rather than from their
parents (Harris, 1998). A separate criticism is that of Field s (1996), who evaluates the many
limitations of the Attachment Theory. A primary critic of Bowlby s attachment theory is J. R. Harris.
The general public assume that good natured, sincere, and humble parents will raise children bearing
similar traits whilst parents that are ill tempered, indecent, and cruel will similarly raise children of an
identical nature (Ainsworth, 1969). According to Harris, this may not be the whole truth. Harris (1998)
believes that a child s peers to have greater influence over their personality and character rather than
their parents. An example of this would be children whose parents suffer from

The Effects Of Diabetes Melllitus
Diabetes mellitus being a metabolic disorder shows a variety of characteristic biochemical parameters
in alloxan induced diabetic rats. Rats induced with diabetes mellitus by a single intra peritoneal
injection of 120 mg/kg of alloxan showed a significant increase in the blood glucose level, serum urea,
creatinine and uric acid; marked elevation in serum Aspartate aminotransferase (AST), Alanine
aminotransferase (ALT) and Alkaline phosphatase (ALP). The serum bilirubin, Lactate dehydrogenase
(LDH), Gammaglutamyltransferase (GGT), Malonaldehyde (MDA), Total cholesterol, Triglycerides,

Metformin restores increased blood glucose to normal levels in alloxan induced rats without causing
life threatening hypoglycemia. It reduces the blood glucose by inhibiting hepatic gluconeogenesis and
increases insulin stimulated glucose uptake by skeletal muscle and adipose tissues. It inhibits alpha
glucosidase and there by retards absorption of disaccharidases from the intestine by enhancing the
activity of AMP activated protein kinase (Chaturvedi, 2010; Nkambo et al, 2013). In the present study,
fenugreek was found to have a more potent action than that of metformin.
The urea, uric acid and creatinine levels were significantly higher in the diabetic rats compared to
those of control rats. This is because of the increased utilization of protein as a consequence of
impaired carbohydrate metabolism due to hypoinsulinemia (Finco, 1984). The serum urea, uric acid
and creatinine levels showed a decreasing trend in Wistar rats treated with 400 mg/kg of fenugreek.
When treated with 800 mg/kg of fenugreek the above three parameters showed a marked decrease
attaining a near to normal value when compared to that of the control rats (Khalid et al, 2010). This
indicates the increased peripheral utilization of glucose preferential to protein with a high dose of
fenugreek. When treated with metformin there was a reduction in the levels of serum urea, uric acid
and creatinine in diabetic rats. These results are similar to that of a previous study in which

Essay On Clarissa And Septimus
Although both Clarissa and Septimus are treated for different medical reasons, their society shows
how people are treated and how the medical industry and the government do not care fully enough on
these issues. Both characters put the thought of death into their stream of conscious. Unfortunately,
Septimus choose the suicidal route. So, what s the difference then? Society played a huge role on both
Septimus and Clarissa s decision in their life. The government and their society put little to no
importance on Septimus and his issues which led to his death. In Virginia Woolf s, Mrs. Dalloway, she

Septimus s is viewed in society as a man who suffers from trauma from the war versus Clarissa, who
is described and an elegant woman that loves lavish parties and hanging around her friends. Having
both of the characters, Clarissa Dalloway and Septimus Smith, Virginia Wolfe presents how two
different sides of society, the upper class and the middle class, can have and face very similar
pressures. Each scene describing their outlooks from within Virginia s eyes show a very similar effect
on the people who dwell within themselves.
Woolf says that Septimus is a spitting image of Clarissa as both share the same feelings about their
history with the medical industry. The both share a dark side that cast out to the reader their
personality from within. Even though Clarissa showed many similar qualities in regards to Septimus,
she decided upon herself to live as she has things to take care of in her life. Like Septimus, Clarissa
too suffers from the war. Even though they were both emotionally beaten to the bone, Clarissa decided
to stay where she s at while Septimus chose another route.
In the book Mrs. Dalloway, Virginia Woolf wanted to cast the social system and bash it for how it
worked. Her intricate focus is focusing not on the people, but on the morals of a certain class at a
certain historical moment.

Should The Articles Of Confederation Or Write A New...
In 1787, a group of fifty five American delegates, met in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to attend the
Constitutional Convention to work out problems with the way the country was run. This involved
improving and revising the old Articles of Confederation. Instead of revising the Articles of
Confederation to make the government work better, the delegates came up with a plan for a new form
of government, the United States Constitution. During the writing and ratifying of the Constitution,
there were some fundamental issues being debated. The main debate was about whether to amend the
Articles of Confederation or write a new constitution. James Madison, a member of the Virginia
Assembly, moved the convention along but proposing a document he had drafted called the Virginia
Plan. The Virginia Plan created a central republican form of government. The government would
consist of the legislative, executive and judicial branch. It ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Delegates feared that the national government would have too much power over the states. William
Paterson came up with the New Jersey Plan. The Plan proposed for changes in the Articles of
Confederation that would let Congress regulate trade and tax imports, but would maintain state power.
The New Jersey Plan proposed a single legislature, a government that relied on the authority of the
state governments, more than one executive and one vote of legislation for each state. The plan
allowed each state to keep its independence. The plan did not stop the states from violating foreign
treaties, or from entering into treaties, or wars. James Madison was against the New Jersey Plan.
Madison insisted that the New Jersey Plan did not improve any of the flaws of the Articles of
Confederation. The Virginia Plan was finally approved as the plan to be used to construct the new
government. The approval of the Virginia Plan meant that the delegates were now committed to

Healthy Fast Food
It is nearly impossible to turn on the television or radio and not be hit with advertisements introducing
the latest fast food trend – fresh and healthy food options. More often, the media bombards us with
slogans such as Subway s common pitch to eat fresh or McDonald s million dollar advertisement
campaign to try the new fruit and walnut salad. Attention has made an abrupt turn from the greasy,
deep fried originals at the fast food chains to more health conscious food choices. Even a documentary
of a man named Morgan Spurlock made headlines and won awards when he ate McDonald s three
times a day for a month and publicized the effects through a movie called Super Size Me. Shortly after
Super Size Me caught high publicity ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Obesity and the desire for freshness are the two focal reasons fast food chains have gone healthy. A
high percentage of Americans are over weight, and those same individuals supply the profit for the
fast food industry. Close to one hundred percent of the items on a fast food menu contain excess
amounts of fats, sugars, and carbohydrates – leaving people full with empty calories. Many
individuals today, however, are recognizing the side effects fast food has on their lifestyle. The
demand for fresh products that meet dietary food guidelines is forcing the fast food industry to create
salads, fruits, yogurts, and grilled entrees. Arguing that the new healthy food choices are due to a
desire to expand the market has its valid points, however, are not the causes for the change – it just
happens to fit in perfectly with the scenario. Obesity and freshness have provoked a new health trend
in fast food, and it is no secret with all the advertisements. So dare to super size an order of healthy
fast food – a once considered oxymoron now becoming more of a reality.

The Role of Animals in the Unbearable Lightness of Being...
Since animals, usually pets, are sometimes an essential part of one s life, it is not surprising that we
find frequent references to its role in works of social realism, such as Wislawa Szymborska s Poems
New and Collected and Milan Kundera s Unbearable Lightness of Being. Animals in literature could
be used to symbolize all sorts of things, but in particular, animals may represent the personality of a
character. This is because as humans and animals co exist in the same atmosphere, certain aspects of a
character reveal themselves in the compassion or even hatred towards the animal. Since animals are
often known to trigger the interests of humans, the attitude of the humans towards the animals
contributes much to character revelation. Both ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A life that never ends?
He d turn his ruddy rump as if to say
Such life he neither bans nor recommends
We can see the monkey as a god now, a figure that even has power to give life that never ends, such a
contrast after the total mistreatment, above. We see how the animals determine human characteristics:
either overly mistreating, or overly obsessed.
In the poem, Cat in an empty apartment, Szymborska again criticizes the uncaring characteristic of
humans and the role of animals in the poem as a mere irritation or a vexation.
Die – you can t do that to a cat
Since what can a cat do in an empty apartment?
Climb the walls?
Rub against the furniture?
From this we can perceive that animals in Szymborska s poems serve to prove that in their co
existence with humans, they are treated unfairly and the human characteristics of cruel superiority
over animals are evident in the works.
Later in the Unbearable Lightness of Being, Tomas and Tereza moves to a collective farm in Rural
Czechoslovakia after the Soviet takeover of 1969 to avoid the hardships caused by Tomas criticism of
the former Czechoslovak communist regime. There, they befriend the chairman of the collective farm,
who like Tereza, shares a close relationship with an animal companion: a pig named Mephisto, which
has been raised like a dog. Even though in the farms animals are purposely raised to be slaughtered for
eating use, Mephisto is treated like his best friend, even going so far as to imagine

Predestination Essay
Predestination
Predestination, in the dictionary, is said to be the doctrine that God in consequence of his
foreknowledge of all events infallibly guides those who are destined for salvation. Scripture has 2 very
good passages for defining what predestination is: Jeremiah 1:5 which says Before I formed you in the
womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.
God is talking about Jeremiah in this passage and how God chose him before time; he was predestined
for his job. Romans 8:28 30 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love
God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. For whom he did foreknow, he also did

That God decreed to leave some in the common misery and not to bestow on them living faith and the
grace of conversion. Calvin also believes that God predestined everything for everything that it does,
such that God predestined me to be writing this report right now for my religion class, so that this isn t
my own free will but it was God s set plan for me. Zanchius, a Reform Theologian, writes that there is
most certainly a double predestination and gives passages to prove through God s Word that there is
no other way. II Cor. 4:3 If our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing. I Peter 2:8
They stumble because they disobey the message which is also what they were destined for. II Peter
2:12b #8230;They are like brute beasts, creatures of instinct, born only to be caught and destroyed,
and like beasts they too will perish. Jude 1:4a For certain men who were marked out for condemnation
long ago have secretly slipped among you. He concludes his arguments by saying that God could not
erase a name that has been placed in the book of life or add a name because it was from eternity. He
quotes Luther with, This is the very thing that razes the doctrine of free will from its foundation, to
wit, that God s eternal love of some men and hatred of others is immutable and cannot be reversed.
The truth about predestination is that God gives man a free will that he doesn t take control of or
manipulate. So an unbeliever has a choice, he can either accept

A Lesson While Living by Ernest Gaines
A Lesson While Living In a society where hardships occur daily, it is vital to have something to hold
on to as an anchor. This reliance or commitment is in the form of friends, family, or even tangible
possessions; however, humans sometimes have to fulfill deeds for others instead of continually
thinking of themselves. Given these obligations, there results both a need and a desire to complete
certain tasks for other individuals, for a community, or even for a higher power. In his novel, A Lesson
Before Dying, Ernest Gaines quite successfully portrays the theme of the importance of obligation and
commitment through presenting an effective setting and community, constructing strong relationships

Consequently, in spite of her sternness with Grant, Tante Lou s concern and hope for Grant truly
radiates. In his analysis of A Lesson Before Dying, Larson states, Bitter in his own way and aloof from
the community he has come to loathe, Grant is initially uninvolved, until his aunt (Miss Emma s
friend) asks that he try to make Jefferson into a man ( A Lesson Before Dying ). Without a mother
figure such as Tante Lou, Grant would have remained bitter and distant throughout the novel and
never apprehended the magnitude of his helping Jefferson. Meanwhile, Miss Emma also tries to urge
Grant to conform, only in a different way from Tante Lou s. Her constant murmurs of He don t have to
do it actually shows the enormity of her need for Grant (Gaines 13). With this, she pushes the school
teacher to make her boy a true man, and at the same time she eradicates the resentment of helping
Jefferson which is within Grant. Unmistakably, the prime reason Tante Lou and Miss Emma are able
to motivate Grant is due to their devotion both to religion and church. Unlike Grant, the two women
are dedicated to their religion and use it as a haven from their discontent within their racist white
society. Consequently, they represent symbols of community and family throughout the novel. On the
other hand, Grant cannot settle down and instead constantly focuses on escaping from the very
stereotypes he does not want to face. Then there his

Argument Analysis Paper. Currently, The World Is In...
Argument Analysis Paper Currently, the world is in disagreement over tensions in the Middle East. A
divided country of the Syrian government and rebels has caused horrific acts. Acts that the president
of the United States deemed necessary for military retaliation. That has sparked the debate on if it was
not only justified but ethical to launch tomahawk missiles into war torn parts of Syria. In an article on
the Huffington Post, Dr. Helen Ouyang argues that it was justified and that military intervention is
needed. She uses different forms of arguments to draw comparisons of Syria to other countries around
the world, dissociate the scenario with the past military struggles and offers many reasons why the
benefit will outweigh the cost. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Dr. Ouyang uses many value based arguments and with a morally questionable topic, the strategy
makes sense. In paragraph two, Dr. Ouyang states, This is why to me, the issue in question is not
necessarily whether chemical weapons were used, but what the intentions of Assad s regime is, what
has happened thus far to the innocent, and what is likely to happen in the future. She acknowledges
that there is no question that the Assad regime has used chemical weapons so that is not what the
disagreement should be about. In the following paragraph, she speaks about all of the arguments
against military involvement. She ends the paragraph by stating that despite the reasons not to be
involved, she can t turn [her] back on the 110,000 who have died and the six million more who have
fled their homes. By stating the opposing arguments, labeling them as sound, and refuting them by
stating that her moral obligation is more critical, she is using a value based argument. Basically, she
says that although we see that the military involvement may be similar to past failures, our moral
decision is more serious. Later in the article, she even calls to the use of abstract values. She claims
that we should not use military intervention because of the vast reasons many Americans think we
should such as punishing Assad or to send a message. Instead, she says that we should do it for the
lesser known reason to stop the mass killings and crimes

The Outsider What Does It Mean To Be Different
What does the word different mean? In a world full of trends and copycats, what does it really mean to
be different? Alternatively, what do we really consider as normal ? Are you considered normal? Or
you? Or maybe you? And after a few rounds of this finger pointing game, we realise that we will
never know what normal is. So in this case normal is merely a figment of societal perceptions and
restrains.
But in all seriousness, why is this idea of being different always taken as a negative classification. In
our modern society, being different and striving away from conformity can often present challenges
such as: isolation, horrid accusations, or even pessimism. Regardless of the community, we learn that
these consequences can be damaging, an idea which is powerfully explored through the novel, The

Between the two World Wars, jazz and swing were all the rage. Starting in the late 1910 s, jazz, an
amalgamation of gospel, blues, ragtime and march, became the popular music of choice for African
American citizens the descendants of slaves whose music influenced jazz. Jazz quickly caught on, and
exploded during the 20 s, spreading to white citizens as well as black. In the 30 s, jazz music was
supplemented by swing, a form of jazz which had larger bands, and which tended to focus more on a

The 1950s began a trend of parenting which resulted in what were called latchkey children. As many
fathers had been killed in World War II and many mothers needed to work, the oldest child of a family
was often drafted to take care of the household. (Hostutler) In the absence of their parents, latchkey
children often had responsibility forced upon them at a very young age. This early maturity in
adolescence resulted in the desire for independence and rejection of authority which is commonly
associated with teenagers. Along with not having a parent to take care of them, latchkey children did
not have a parent to teach them how to interact with the world. Because of this, teenagers largely
learned important moral lessons from their peers or from mass media, rather than from their parents.
As radio, the main form of media at the time, was slowly becoming more populated by smaller rock
bands, often with members not much older than latchkey children themselves, the morals of those
children become the morals of rock and roll, which focused and intensified the popularity of rock and
roll itself, as well as the backlash of older generations against rock and

Reflection Paper On Drill Experience
It was 1500 hours on a sizzling summer day in Nashville, Tennessee. I stood with pride in the same
spot my dad, grandfather, and Uncle once stood awaiting to meet the drill instructors at the Tennessee
Law Enforcement Training Center. I was a big headed, unorganized 18 year old with a bad attitude,
who was about to be faced with a tough 12 weeks. I was standing there, because being a police officer
was something I had always wanted to do. Through the next 12 weeks, I would be molded into a new
person by reaching a low and learning how to cope with tough situations. While the Commander was
talking, I thought about how much this moment meant to me and how happy I was about being here. I
stood tall in my crisp uniform and polished boots, my first attempt at doing laundry and polishing
boots was a success in my mind. After the Commander gave his final remarks he walked off stage
with a moment of peace following, a loud slam of a door interrupted that peace. The slam was trailed
by what seemed to be hundreds of drill instructors roaring in barking orders. I stood in line with 35
other cadets, as the drill instructors individually examined us as if through a microscope. It was my
turn; as I stood face to face with two drill instructors I was not worried. Then a single dog hair was
found on my uniform along with several wrinkles, I was quickly on my face doing pushups with drill
instructors around me yelling at the top of their lungs. This quickly washed away my arrogance, it

Questions On The And The Doctrine Of God
On How to Beg God to Exist
Man loves God. It is as natural a love to Man as any other is. For millennia the notion of divinity has
ruled the minds of peoples the world over, its power to foster social cohesion and social conflict at the
heart of its aversion to senescence. However, can such a consequential notion have as its foundation a
logical proof? Arguments in the affirmative abound. Let us examine one in particular, that of St.
Thomas Aquinas, the Five Ways. As we do this, we will consider Søren Kierkegaard s claim that any
logical proof of God s existence assumes God already exists, that God is necessary for reality to exist
(Swenson). Let us establish the logical proof offered by Aquinas and then determine whether we could
reach the same conclusions assuming God does not exist, and employ Occam s razor.
The Way of Motion
a) Nothing can be reduced from a state of potentiality into a state of actuality, unless by something
already in a state of actuality.
b) Nothing can be both moved and mover, or the mover of itself, from the same point of view and in
the same sense.
c) Whatever is in motion is put in motion by another.
d) This cannot go on infinitely.
e) Therefore, the First Mover must be what we understand as God.
Point d) of the argument is where Aquinas reveals that he has already assumed God s existence.
Aquinas states with certainty that an infinite causal loop is impossible, but does not explain why
(Kessler, 574). Why must this be the case? Even if the

come to learn, that Rochester is already married to an insane woman, living in his attic, named Bertha.
With this Rochester asks Jane to run away with her to Europe, this is exactly where Jane is faced with
a very hard decision between following her heart as everyone wants to do, or keeping her respect and
dignity. We can see the respect Jane now has from Rochester when he says to her, I was wrong to

shows that Jane has gained Rochester s respect and the stubbornness in Jane s character is the best
thing for her, for without this trait Jane could never gain respect from others, especially men, in his
novel. Knowing that Jane has decided to leave her, Rochester begins to persuade Jane to stay with

  • 2. A Major Measure Of Biological Fitness A major measure of biological fitness in a population is the fecundity, or reproductive success rate, of female organisms (Berger et al, 2008). For insects in particular many factors influence the number of eggs produced during the lifetime of a female. One key factor in insect reproduction is the ambient environmental temperature. Insects are ectothermic and therefore rely on their environment to provide the heat needed to carry out normal reproductive functions. Ambient heat dependence for insects has been thought to have a greater effect on fertility success than other contributing factors such as increased female body size. Studies by Berger and others have shown that the European speckled wood butterfly, Pararge aegeria, can only reproduce in the temperature range of 8°C and 14 °C even when controlling for larger female body sizes. The findings of the study suggest that temperature can limit insect reproduction in two specific ways. First, the development of the egg may be inhibited by temperature ranges that are outside the preferred range of the insect. Second, the female s range of time she is able to lay eggs is reduced when the temperature of the immediate environment is not conducive to the survival of her offspring (Berger et al, 2008). Thus, temperature is a paramount factor when considering the success rate of many insect species. Other studies have shown the importance of temperature on reproductive success of certain insects and the implications that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Malcom X s Use Of Critical Thinking In The Critique Of... In 1946 Malcolm Little was convicted of robbery and received a 10 year sentence in Charlestown prison. Here he taught himself how to read and write, using materials provided by the prison s library to aid in his education; consequently, he also learned about the racial injustices throughout history. After 7 years, Malcolm X was granted parole and released from prison and joined the Civil Rights Movement under the name Malcolm X. In a section of his autobiography Malcolm X argues the importance of critical thinking in educational and research purposes. Critical thinking allows the reader to gauge whether the information gained from a particular source can be accepted as fact, depending on how it fits into the information given by other sources. He uses his experiences, the texts that he used in his education, pathos arguments, and metaphor to further his point. The use of narrative as the medium forces Malcolm X to rely heavily on the experiences he had while studying in prison to provide support for his argument. He provides sufficient evidence on how he thinks the history of colored society should be portrayed and this is shown with a list of texts that he has read during the course of his prison studies. One of the texts Malcolm X describes provides strong examples of historical events that are not mentioned in the United States. The piece Sex and Race by J.A Rogers told about race mixing before Christ s time; and Aesop being a black man who told fables; and about ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. THE MERIT CORPORATION 1 THE MERIT CORPORATION Family owned and operated for three generations, the Merit Corporation manufactured and sold children s furniture. John Kirschner, Merit s CEO and grandson of the company s founder, was actively involved with every aspect of the firm s operations. Now, as he was considering early retirement in the next few years, he began to think about his legacy for the future. Merit s headquarters and the biggest of its three manufacturing plants were located in an industrial park 10 miles outside of Boston. Merit shared the large six story building with several small firms, having its corporate offices on the second and third floors. Employees began work promptly at 8:30 a.m. and most left before 6:00 p.m. A devout family man, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Kirschner, who had attracted the above individuals based on his compelling vision that they would be doing something completely different and of vital importance, believed that the group would be most effective if given extensive freedom and encouragement. The only things he required from it was a biweekly progress report, so that the executive committee could be kept abreast of its activities, and a monthly financial report. Group members were free to work as they wished; as long as they focused their energies on coming up with viable ideas for durable, multipurpose children s furniture products those consumers would consider a good value. The only structure he imposed was having one person report directly to him. Thus, he appointed Kane the group head, in large measure because Kane was the first to be hired, but also because he had made such a positive impression on him. When the eight people began work at Merit, they did not know each other. Given Kirschner s rather broad mandate, they also did not know what they would be expected to do on a daily basis. They soon discovered that they had different ideas not only about what they should do, but also about how they should approach their work. Those like Jacobson, who had worked in large corporate environments in the past, were the most outspoken about how the group should approach its task. He was a proponent of a more systematic approach. Kiris was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Essay The Oakland School District THE OAKLAND SCHOOL DISTRICT BUSINESS PURCHASING 104 170 MARCH 6, 2012 OVERVIEW In reviewing an analysis of his school district s paper buying habits, supply manager Gene Smith uncovered some interesting statistics regarding the Oakland School District s supply ordering habits. Through the growth of the school district, purchase orders for supplies had risen to astronomical levels. Over the course of the previous year, purchase orders (including original orders and change orders) had grown to an astounding 36,842, or nearly 3,100 orders per month. These orders came from one or more of approximately 1,300 suppliers. Even more astonishing was the low average value of each of these orders. 35 percent of the orders placed were ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One issue that may arise is the unwillingness of a person or department to bend on an issue that could save time in another area of the process. Another issue could be the follow up required after the big meeting. Additionally, if the process becomes stagnant, the managerial Champions for Change must be able and willing to motivate the cross functional team in a timely fashion to get the job done. If for some reason even the perception of managerial support slips, the team s hopes for change may be dashed as well. A second recommendation would be to encourage each school in the district to have a stock of inventory on hand in each building. This is not to say that each building should have storeroom after storeroom full of just in case supplies. Utilizing the most current, complete two years of data, an analysis of each school s supplies should be conducted. From that information, which should be easy to obtain based on the amount of information that the accounting department requires for each and every order, it should be obvious what each school s top ten regularly ordered supplies are. By completing the school by school analysis and allowing each location to place a once per quarter or once per semester stock supply order, each school will reduce waste in the form of time and will save money by filling that time with a value added function. • 6. An Examination And Evaluation Of How Each Of The... An examination and evaluation of how each of the four principles can be applied to a scenario pertaining to refusal of care when it involves blood transfusion Richard Sensalo HSC / 545 07/31/2015 Nate Elam. Refusal of care: This is a situation when a patient declines any or parts of any care. Usually this remains the case despite the effort or numerous attempts by the health care providers or physicians informing the patient about the benefits of the treatment. Jehovah s witnesses do have authenticated right to decline blood transfusion. Patients do have the right to decline treatment despite the fact that some may be suffering with a terminal illness. However, exceptions do apply when the physician deems the situation to be dangerous for a vulnerable third party. If there is any form of threat or prevalent danger that could bring harm to third party such as tuberculosis, then the physician may refuse treatment. In such a scenario, the patient has to be quarantined and treated until they pose no more risk. Examination and evaluation of the ethical principles in Accordance with refusal of care: Autonomy: Patients are entitled to the right of declining treatment as they exercise one of the principles of care, which is autonomy. This principle gives the patient the right to make decisions about their medical care without their physician or health care provider coercing them to accept treatment or influencing their decision. • 7. Should Schools Keep Junk Food Keep junk foods in school cafeterias The controversial topic of childhood obesity has been going on for a long time and because of it, many schools are debating if they should ban junk food from school cafeterias or not. There are many opinions on what step should be taken to solve this problem. Some say too ban junk food and some say it should not be banned. It should be up to the kids and the parents as too what kids eat and not the government. By banning junk food in one place doesn t mean it s going to stop them from eating sugary foods they can get it from another place. One of the reasons why junk food should not be banned from school cafeteria is because the cafeteria isn t the only source kids have too unhealthy foods. Kids in school can go just around the block to the gas station or minimart and buy all sorts of junk foods, probably even more than what they can buy in school from vending machines and the lunch lines combined. Like Rosenthal said, at some open campus schools have made it a practice to walk to nearby mini marts and gas stations to buy the same products they used to purchase in the vending machines (9). This quote tells us that campuses have made it easier for students to go out during school and or afterschool to purchase the junk food they want. A school administration recently did an experiment to see if students could purchase individual food and beverage items, either from vending machines, school store, canteen, snack bar or a la carte ... The younger generation has a very negative reputation and are known for being quite cynical. Some traits commonly used to describe children now consist of being self centered and entitled. While Centennials are looked at as being a certain way, the Silent generation is known for more positive attributes. These include being insanely hard workers and keeping to themselves about daily life, hence where the phrase originated, children should be seen and not heard. School during the 1950s in comparison to the 2000s is incredibly multifarious due to common rules, technology, and social standards. The typical length of school days during the 20th and 21st centuries are fairly interchangeable. For instance, both time periods range from 7:30 start times to 3:00 dismissals. Many students are involved in extracurricular activities that start before the bell, or run after school. After a long day of school and extracurriculars, that can lead to very little time to be spent at home, working, or pursuing hobbies. In the more recent years, child sexual abuse has come to the attention of a larger part of society. As such, it is becoming more openly discussed. Child sexual abuse is a growing problem, and the stories that have begun to circulate around the world work to illustrate just how serious the problem is. Despite what society is lead to believe, the sexual abuse of a child is the least common out of all forms of child abuse. • 15. The Origins Of Attachment Theory The origins of Attachment theory can be traced to the influential work of John Bowlby (1958). Bowlby s work as a psychiatrist in a Child Guidance Clinic in London caused him to consider the significance of the child s relationship with their mother in terms of their cognitive, emotional and social development. Specifically, it contributed to enthralling his interests surrounding the link between early infant separations with the mother and later maladjustment, leading Bowlby to formulate the Theory of Attachment. Bowlby argues that this attachment between the mother and child is different in a qualitative form from any other form attachment. This theory, although seminal, holds many criticisms from others, stating that children learn more from their peers rather than from their parents (Harris, 1998). A separate criticism is that of Field s (1996), who evaluates the many limitations of the Attachment Theory. A primary critic of Bowlby s attachment theory is J. R. Harris. The general public assume that good natured, sincere, and humble parents will raise children bearing similar traits whilst parents that are ill tempered, indecent, and cruel will similarly raise children of an identical nature (Ainsworth, 1969). According to Harris, this may not be the whole truth. Harris (1998) believes that a child s peers to have greater influence over their personality and character rather than their parents. Metformin restores increased blood glucose to normal levels in alloxan induced rats without causing life threatening hypoglycemia. It reduces the blood glucose by inhibiting hepatic gluconeogenesis and increases insulin stimulated glucose uptake by skeletal muscle and adipose tissues. In the present study, fenugreek was found to have a more potent action than that of metformin. The urea, uric acid and creatinine levels were significantly higher in the diabetic rats compared to those of control rats. This is because of the increased utilization of protein as a consequence of impaired carbohydrate metabolism due to hypoinsulinemia (Finco, 1984). The serum urea, uric acid and creatinine levels showed a decreasing trend in Wistar rats treated with 400 mg/kg of fenugreek. When treated with 800 mg/kg of fenugreek the above three parameters showed a marked decrease attaining a near to normal value when compared to that of the control rats (Khalid et al, 2010). Since animals, usually pets, are sometimes an essential part of one s life, it is not surprising that we find frequent references to its role in works of social realism, such as Wislawa Szymborska s Poems New and Collected and Milan Kundera s Unbearable Lightness of Being. Animals in literature could be used to symbolize all sorts of things, but in particular, animals may represent the personality of a character. This is because as humans and animals co exist in the same atmosphere, certain aspects of a character reveal themselves in the compassion or even hatred towards the animal. Since animals are often known to trigger the interests of humans, the attitude of the humans towards the animals contributes much to character revelation. Both ... Referring above, a Kurt Cobain statue or form of monument to him would not belong in a place like Wyoming. He was born in Washington state and toured around the country with his band, Nirvana. Source C says the following, I have to admit: Mount Rushmore bothers me. A divided country of the Syrian government and rebels has caused horrific acts. Acts that the president of the United States deemed necessary for military retaliation. That has sparked the debate on if it was not only justified but ethical to launch tomahawk missiles into war torn parts of Syria. In an article on the Huffington Post, Dr. Helen Ouyang argues that it was justified and that military intervention is needed. She uses different forms of arguments to draw comparisons of Syria to other countries around the world, dissociate the scenario with the past military struggles and offers many reasons why the benefit will outweigh the cost. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Dr. Ouyang uses many value based arguments and with a morally questionable topic, the strategy makes sense. In paragraph two, Dr. Ouyang states, This is why to me, the issue in question is not necessarily whether chemical weapons were used, but what the intentions of Assad s regime is, what has happened thus far to the innocent, and what is likely to happen in the future. She acknowledges that there is no question that the Assad regime has used chemical weapons so that is not what the disagreement should be about. In the following paragraph, she speaks about all of the arguments against military involvement. She ends the paragraph by stating that despite the reasons not to be involved, she can t turn [her] back on the 110,000 who have died and the six million more who have fled their homes. By stating the opposing arguments, labeling them as sound, and refuting them by stating that her moral obligation is more critical, she is using a value based argument. Basically, she says that although we see that the military involvement may be similar to past failures, our moral decision is more serious. Later in the article, she even calls to the use of abstract values. She claims that we should not use military intervention because of the vast reasons many Americans think we should such as punishing Assad or to send a message. Instead, she says that we should do it for the lesser known reason to stop the mass killings and crimes ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 31. The Outsider What Does It Mean To Be Different What does the word different mean? In a world full of trends and copycats, what does it really mean to be different? Alternatively, what do we really consider as normal ? Are you considered normal? Or you? Or maybe you? And after a few rounds of this finger pointing game, we realise that we will never know what normal is. So in this case normal is merely a figment of societal perceptions and restrains. But in all seriousness, why is this idea of being different always taken as a negative classification. In our modern society, being different and striving away from conformity can often present challenges such as: isolation, horrid accusations, or even pessimism. Regardless of the community, we learn that these consequences can be damaging, an idea which is powerfully explored through the novel, The Outsider by Albert Camus. ... Camus utilises emotive language in conjunction with a bitter tone in reducing me to insignificance , to highlight the desperation and vulnerability that often surrounds us in situations of emotional doubt and self reflection. As many fathers had been killed in World War II and many mothers needed to work, the oldest child of a family was often drafted to take care of the household. (Hostutler) In the absence of their parents, latchkey children often had responsibility forced upon them at a very young age. This early maturity in adolescence resulted in the desire for independence and rejection of authority which is commonly associated with teenagers. Along with not having a parent to take care of them, latchkey children did not have a parent to teach them how to interact with the world. Because of this, teenagers largely learned important moral lessons from their peers or from mass media, rather than from their parents. As radio, the main form of media at the time, was slowly becoming more populated by smaller rock bands, often with members not much older than latchkey children themselves, the morals of those children become the morals of rock and roll, which focused and intensified the popularity of rock and roll itself, as well as the backlash of older generations against rock and ... • 33. Reflection Paper On Drill Experience It was 1500 hours on a sizzling summer day in Nashville, Tennessee. I stood with pride in the same spot my dad, grandfather, and Uncle once stood awaiting to meet the drill instructors at the Tennessee Law Enforcement Training Center. I was a big headed, unorganized 18 year old with a bad attitude, who was about to be faced with a tough 12 weeks. I was standing there, because being a police officer was something I had always wanted to do. Through the next 12 weeks, I would be molded into a new person by reaching a low and learning how to cope with tough situations. While the Commander was talking, I thought about how much this moment meant to me and how happy I was about being here. I stood tall in my crisp uniform and polished boots, my first attempt at doing laundry and polishing boots was a success in my mind. After the Commander gave his final remarks he walked off stage with a moment of peace following, a loud slam of a door interrupted that peace. The slam was trailed by what seemed to be hundreds of drill instructors roaring in barking orders. I stood in line with 35 other cadets, as the drill instructors individually examined us as if through a microscope. It was my turn; as I stood face to face with two drill instructors I was not worried. Then a single dog hair was found on my uniform along with several wrinkles, I was quickly on my face doing pushups with drill instructors around me yelling at the top of their lungs. This quickly washed away my arrogance, it ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 36. Questions On The And The Doctrine Of God On How to Beg God to Exist Man loves God. It is as natural a love to Man as any other is. For millennia the notion of divinity has ruled the minds of peoples the world over, its power to foster social cohesion and social conflict at the heart of its aversion to senescence. However, can such a consequential notion have as its foundation a logical proof? Arguments in the affirmative abound. Let us examine one in particular, that of St. Thomas Aquinas, the Five Ways. As we do this, we will consider Søren Kierkegaard s claim that any logical proof of God s existence assumes God already exists, that God is necessary for reality to exist (Swenson). Let us establish the logical proof offered by Aquinas and then determine whether we could reach the same conclusions assuming God does not exist, and employ Occam s razor. The Way of Motion a) Nothing can be reduced from a state of potentiality into a state of actuality, unless by something already in a state of actuality. b) Nothing can be both moved and mover, or the mover of itself, from the same point of view and in the same sense. c) Whatever is in motion is put in motion by another. d) This cannot go on infinitely. e) Therefore, the First Mover must be what we understand as God. Point d) of the argument is where Aquinas reveals that he has already assumed God s existence. Aquinas states with certainty that an infinite causal loop is impossible, but does not explain why (Kessler, 574). Why must this be the case? Even if the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

At first Jane sees him as rude and disrespectful due to his cold and gruesome remarks, but it is her fight and how Jane stands up for herself that leads to one of the most known relationships in literature. Eventually Rochester asks Jane for her hand in marriage but at the scene of the wedding, we come to learn, that Rochester is already married to an insane woman, living in his attic, named Bertha. With this Rochester asks Jane to run away with her to Europe, this is exactly where Jane is faced with a very hard decision between following her heart as everyone wants to do, or keeping her respect and dignity. We can see the respect Jane now has from Rochester when he says to her, I was wrong to attempt to deceive you; but I feared a stubbornness that exists in your character (Bronte 354). This shows that Jane has gained Rochester s respect and the stubbornness in Jane s character is the best thing for her, for without this trait Jane could never gain respect from others, especially men, in his novel. Knowing that Jane has decided to leave her, Rochester begins to persuade Jane to stay with him. He says, Oh, Jane, this is bitter! This this is wicked. It would not be wicked to love me (Bronte 355).
