Slavery in the South Essay
Slavery in the South
A large majority of whites in the South supported slavery even though fewer of a quarter of them
owned slaves because they felt that it was a necessary evil and that it was an important Southern
institution. In 1800 the population of the United States included 893,602 slaves, of which only
36,505 were in the northern states. Vermont, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, Rhode Island,
Connecticut, New York, and New Jersey provided for the emancipation of their slaves before 1804,
most of them by gradual measures. The 3,953,760 slaves at the census of 1860 were in the southern
states. Eminent statesmen from the earliest period of the national existence, such as Thomas
Jefferson and George Washington regarded slavery... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If at one time slavery had been common in much of the Americas, by the middle of the 19th century
it remained only in Brazil, Cuba, Puerto Rico, and the southern United States. In an era that
celebrated liberty and equality, the slaveholding Southern states appeared backward and repressive.
This drew most Northerner s into the abolitionist movement not so much for the behalf of slaves,
but how slavery made the United States look. Despite this, the slave economy grew rapidly,
enriched by the spectacular increase in cotton cultivation to meet the growing demand of Northern
and European textile manufacturers. Southern economic growth, however, was based largely on
cultivating more land. The South did not undergo the industrial revolution that was beginning to
transform the North; the South remained almost entirely rural. In 1860 there were only five
Southern cities with more than 50,000 inhabitants (only one of which, New Orleans, was in the
Deep South); less than 10 percent of Southerners lived in towns of at least 2500 people, compared
to more than 25 percent of Northerners. The South also increasingly lagged in other indications of
modernization, from railroad construction to literacy and public education. For these reasons, many
Southerners felt that slavery was all too necessary because their agrarian economy was based
around it. Many feared that the abolition of slavery would result in a Southern economic collapse.

Ethical Hacking Is A Game Of Technology
ETHICAL HACKING
THE GAME OF MIND ON TECHNOLOGY Ethical hacking is nothing but a game of playing
with technology. Hackers find the loop holes in the present system and penetrate into it so as to
know the information in order to gain personally. And when the term ethical gets attached with
the hacker he becomes the savior. The work of both a hacker and an ethical hacker are the same,
but there is just a slight difference that one is illegal and tries to destroy your privacy for his
professional or personal gain while the other person is legal and tries to protect your privacy in any
way. The illegal hacker is termed as the black hatwhile the legal one is the white hat. Hacking is

Job Corps Pros And Cons
On the surface the nation s commitment in providing access to any individual seeking entry to Job
Corps seems to be working. Now underneath the surfs is another story of this apparent success. With
these dire economic times a supportive system that we can create by combining the education
systems through partnerships with other schools, organizations, and companies would enable the
next generation of students. It will allow them to further their careers and educationgiving them the
chance to flourish into a generation to remember. Now that President Obama has called for

Fitness Testing For Rugby Essay
The purpose of this assignment is to provide an appropriate fitness assessment for a rugby union
player. An effective fitness assessment should provide essential information regarding players
match fitness and reveal what fitness programs need prescribing. In order for a test to be effective
it must reflect the specific demands of the sport. Each test was chosen due to its specificity in
relation to the demands of rugby unioncompetition. An understanding of the client will be made
clear through a PAR Q which will provide the relative information for both personal and medical.

However, it is difficult to compare body fat percentages, due to the different measurement error
associated with each method (Duthie et al., 2003). These limitations lead researchers and coaches
to monitor athletes body mass and sum of skin folds rather than estimating percentage body fat
(Gore, 2000).
Rugby players require leg power to, jump and lift in the lineout, during the initial push in the
scrum, for tackling and for explosive acceleration (Duthie et al. 2006). The development of
explosive leg power is vital for all participants of rugby. The forwards require power in the line
outs and scrummage situations. Lineout s, require taller forwards, they can achieve greater
jumping height, resulting in competitive lineouts (Quarrie et al., 1996).The back line players
need the ability to accelerate over short distances and to make and break tackles (Nicholas 1997).
One test of explosive leg power is the vertical jump test (Carlson et al 1994, Nicholas 1997). As
the backrow forwards are required to jump during the lineout, the specificity of the test for these
players is increased.
Grip strength is required for players to bind properly in the scrum, thus the grip strength would be a
useful tool for forwards (Quarrie Wilson, 2000). The Harpenden grip strength dynamometer has
been found to possess excellent test retest reliability (Balogun

The Impact Of Heroin On Families
The Impact of Heroin on Families
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
In today s busy lifestyle world, there has been a number of rising cases of drug abuse. Illicit use
of Opiates, especially heroin has dominated most parts of the world According to the National
Survey on Drug Use and Health (NSDUH), in 2012 about 669,000 Americans reported using heroin
in the past year of 2012. (1.) Research conducted in the past has been focused on the causes and
consequences of heroin abuse primarily from the standpoint of the addict and never the clear
view point on the effect of families. It is thus worth exploring on this menacing drug in quest to
look for ways and means of eradicating it. This paper provides an in depth view on the policy
developments with evidence to back the claims on how Heroin effects families as well .
Here is a graph to show you the use of Heroin users from the age of 12 and older for the past month
and past year of 2012.
1 Introduction A written piece of document on heroin would be incomplete without exploring its
historical background. The passing of the 1914 Harrison Act in US banned the use of cocaine and
opiates. After the passing of the act, regular users in US switched to heroin, which at the time was
not regulated by this Act. In the mid 1920s, intravenous injection of heroin became popular but was
later banned by the US government. While in UK, emergency drug controls were introduced under
the wartime defense of the realm act in 1916. Opiates were not its main

A Short Note On Buddhism Essay
Final Term Paper
Buddhism
Have you ever wondered how meditation, kindness, and suffering can help you reach true peace?
Today, I will be informing you on how these concepts as well as a few others play an important
role in reaching none other than, Nirvana. What I am going to be discussing is one of the great
Asian philosophical and religious traditions, Buddhism.
Those who practice Buddhism believe that life goes on and on in many reincarnations or rebirths.
The eternal hope for all who practice Buddhism is that through reincarnation one comes back into
successively better lives; until one achieves the goal of being free from pain and suffering and not
having to come back again. This wheel of rebirth, known as Samsara, goes on forever until one
achieves Nirvana. The Buddhist definition of Nirvana is the highest state of spiritual bliss, as
absolute immortality through absorption of the soul into itself, but preserving individuality. Birth is
not the beginning and death is not the end. This cycle of life has no beginning and can go on
forever without an end. The ultimate goal for every Buddhist, Nirvana, is to accomplish total
enlightenment and liberation. By achieving this goal, one can be liberated from the never ending
round of birth, death, and rebirth. Transmigration, the Buddhist cycle of birth, death, and rebirth,
does not involve the reincarnation of a spirit, but only the rebirth of a consciousness containing the
seeds of good and evil deeds. Buddhism

King Lear Adaptations
I think that the National Theater s King Lear was the more effective play. This is for two
reasons, because it was had more hidden details and had better acting. These two features made
the play easier to watch and more entertaining.
First off, the National Theater s play had more hidden details that gave the viewers subtle
clues as to the setting and characters, a great example of showing instead of telling which made
the play much more interesting. An example of this was the microphone for Cordelia and her
future husband was pointed to his side, even though Cordelia was there alone. This shows the lack
of respect that women were given, King Lear was symbolically giving away land to a non existent
husband over his blood borne daughter. This reveals how little he ... Show more content on

The National Theater s King Lear had other intricacies such as
King Lear hitting Reagan s rear shows that his love might be one of an inappropriate nature and
reveals some of his character traits.
Secondly, in the National Theater s adaptation of King Lear, I felt the actors and actresses
had better acting. King Lear was shown as being crazier and more short tempered which makes
his descent into madness later on more believable. It also shows that he is prone to overreacting
as he flips over tables when he feels unsatisfied, this leads the viewer to see why it made sense in
his mind to banish Cordelia. In Olivier s play, King Lear is shown as much more level headed which
makes it out of character for him to banish Cordelia and even hold the contest in the first place. As
well, in the National Theater s King Lear the sisters Goneril and Reagan were portrayed more
realistically. Goneril delivered her speech with a hint of nervousness, which would be likely given
her father s unpredictableness and how important this was. She had to hope that her

The Relationship Between Revolution, State Reform, And...
The relationships between revolution, state reform, and industrialization came in a succession
form. The ideas that were brought to light during the revolutions later defined how the states
were reformed. The reformed states would later take on industrialization. During the American
and French Revolutions some ideas were brought up that later defined the state formations. The
idea of popular sovereignty allowed for states to become more democratic. This idea to allow the
people to have some authority over the sovereign was brought about by John Locke. People
wanted freedom, individual freedom to be exact. In terms of political and legal equality, the idea
was that all individuals would be equal under the law. State reformation began through acquiring
independence. Independence was acquired by means of war and conflict. There was later
American, Haitian, Brazilian, and Mexican independence. For the Haitian Revolution, a slave
revolt broke out and was led by a man named Toussaint L Ouverture. Mexico became independent
due to Napoleon invading Spain and weakening the royal control of the colonies and the
independence movement led by SimГіn Bolivar. Pedro the King s son agreed to an independent
Brazil. Industrialization began through new inventions and use of material. Coal replaced the use
of wood. Some of the new inventions included the fluttering shuttle, spinning mule, water driven
power loom, steam power, and different modes of transportation. Social classes were formed,

how? Tools and methods must be developed when investigating anything in order to collect

that mental healing occurs over time, although people most directly exposed to terrorist attacks are

Problems with anxiety, depression, and substance abuse are also commonly reported.4 Predictors
include being closer to the attacks, being injured, or knowing someone who was killed or injured.
Those who watch more media coverage on attacks are also at higher risk for PTSD and associated

heightened risk for traumatic stress reactions in individuals exposed to those events. Following are
some specific examples:

Gene Cloning And Bacterial Transformation
Introduction: In this lab, gene cloning and bacterial transformation was conducted. Bacteria are
single celled microorganisms. They are simple in structure and have no nucleus with linear
chromosomes. Bacteria are essential to life, and reproduction of other bacteria which helps play a
role in decomposition of organic matter and the cycling of elements such as nitrogen and carbon,
which are elements necessary to live. Due to this, plants and animals can use nitrogen to create
nucleic acids along with amino acids, which are the essential building blocks of DNA. They also

The bacterium being observed was E. coli, which codes for green fluorescent protein. E. coli is a
bacterium that normally lives in the intestines of humans and animals alike, and can cause
infection. One hopes to observe a glow from a green fluorescent protein (GFP) which is typically
made by a jellyfish. This will be made possible by the additional presence of arabinose, which acts
as the inducing agent. The inducing agent influences the transcription of the GFP and activates the
transcriptional promoters. A promoter allows a foreign geneto fall into place much easier resulting
in gene expression. It is expected that the combination of the plasmid, with the Lysogeny Broth
(LB) and the arabinose (ARB) will transform the bacteria, and allow for growth of the bacteria in
the presence of the antibiotic ampicillin (AMP) along with an observable glow under ultraviolet

Abstract
The intent of this paper is to describe three natural disasters; for this paper we will describe a
hurricane, an earthquake and a mudslide. We will briefly discuss how, or if, our ancestors were
able to predict and therefore mitigate loss of life or damage to infrastructure for these types of
disasters 100 years ago. Then we will look at how our modern society is able to accomplish this in
current times. Finally, we will cover how we could better predict future events and plan
accordingly. We will explore the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Introduction
General Sherman s contribution to the Civil War will forever be remembered in history, although
he made some miscalculations, his mistakes did nothing to his reputation unlike his brilliance in
strategizing . His military exploits went far beyond getting the attention of American military
historians; it went all the way to the shores of Europe. Military historian Basil Liddell Hart

others like Napoleon Bonaparte, and Von Clausewitz. General Sherman s effort in this campaign

He first saw action in Florida against the Seminole Indians. However, he was not involved in the
Mexican American war like most of his contemporaries. As a result of this he quit in 1853, then
joined his brother in the banking industry.
Sherman s Military Career
During this time he was appointed to the position of superintendent for the Louisiana Military
Academy in 1859. However, after the onset of the Civil War Sherman left his post as the
Superintendent and went north where he became a Colonel in the 13th United States Infantry .
General Sherman later experienced combat at the first Battle of Bull Run, where he led a division
of General Tyler s men. Unfortunately, he lost the battle, but President Abraham Lincolnsaw his
promise and promoted him to Brigadier General on August seventh, 1861.
Before his March to the sea he had accomplished a lot, an example of this is the Atlanta campaign
that took place between May and September 1864. Together with General Grant, they believed that
they had to destroy the Confederacy s capacity for waging war. They would do this by attacking the
economic, strategic, and physiological aspects of the South to bring it to its knees. The strategies
that Sherman adopted could be compared with the scorched earth tactic that entailed destroying
everything. Although he instructed his men to only destroy infrastructure in place where guerrilla
warfare overwhelmed his army . He quickly

In 1985, the Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR) evaluated the Silver Creek Wetland, and

Anger Is A Universal Emotion
Anger is a universal emotion. It might make you act out and throw something, or it might boil up
inside you until you blow up on some innocent person simply asking a question. How every person
reacts to anger is different, some people may deal with anger more efficiently than others: like
counseling, therapy or by taking medication that mainly focuses on depression or anxiety which
fuels anger. People often wonder if they have anger problems and if it s genetic. Not many know
what part of the brain anger comes from, or what triggers it. Red often symbolizes anger,
because blood is red and so is fire, both associated with anger. Anger is hard to control, and it may
not be your fault for controlling it due to genetics of anger. Thanks to science, studies have given
us bits and pieces to the puzzle we have before us concerning anger.
Being Raised in an Angry Environment
The part of the brain that controls emotions including anger, occur in the amygdala. Science has
shown that adolescences use their amygdala s for decision making more than adults, who use
their frontal lobes. The reason people have anger can be from stress, abuse, finances, social or
family issues. Factors like substance abuse and being raised by or with people with anger issues
can affect ones way of dealing with and levels of anger.

Anger naturally triggers the fight/flight response, which mentally and physically prepares the body

Persuasive Essay On The Right To Privacy
According to Merriam Webster dictionary, privacy is the quality or state of being apart from
company or observation, moreover, it is the freedom from unauthorized intrusion. In 1776, John
Adams wrote that it had been the British right to search houses without justification that sparked the
fight for independence. In other words, John Adams thought that it was an unjustified violation of
privacywhich kindled one of history s most noteworthy revolutions. Despite the fact that nowhere in
the U. S. Constitution does it express the right to privacy, today, the debate and controversy
surrounding the right to privacy are debated endlessly. Privacy s definition has never changed,
however, its meaning continues to evolve. Today, acts of terrorism, unjust searches, and mass
surveillance influence privacy s definition and the regulation of collection, access, and use of
personal information by private and public actors. Therefore, it is essential to ensure that the
privacy standards serve to guarantee freedom and autonomy rather than unduly restricting it. Today
s debate on privacy is much different than during the founding of independence while the concern
and controversy are comparable.
The concept of privacy innately spawns from many early writings firstly in the writings of
Aristotle, in which he distinctly defines the differences between the public sphere of politics and
political activity, the Polis, and the private or domestic sphere of the family, known as the Oikos.

How Democratic Is The American Constitution Essay
The question posed by both Madison and the Framers in the 85 Federalist Papers and Dahl in his
book How Democratic is the American Constitution? is how effective the Constitution is at
promoting the ideals of a democracy. For Dahl, there are several issues surrounding the
Constitution, from its drafting, to its ideology, to its relevance. By analyzing Dahl s critiques of the
Constitution in terms of the parallels that exist between factions and the two party system, the issue
of unequal representation, and the necessity for the Framers to compromise on their ideals to ratify
the Constitution, Dahl defined a clear argument based in his general disapproval for the
Constitution. However, by combining Dahl s critiques with potential rebuttals from the opinions
and perspectives of Madison and his fellow Federalists, it is evident that both Dahl and the Framers
believed that if the constitution was completely successful, then the lives of the American people
would be enhanced. While Dahl believed that the Constitution, ultimately, has not fully protected
the rights of all persons, he, like the Framers, focused on the particulars of government that must be
improved such that the American life is bettered. The Framer s notion of a republic, or democratic
republic form of government, rested on the necessity to limit the formation and success of factions.
Yet, as Dahl argued, the irony of Madison s aversions to factions is that, not long after the
ratification of the

Satire In A Modest Proposal
The Morality of Irish Baby Food
It is human nature to want to believe that if you have good living conditions, the everyone else
must also have good living conditions; however, if someone did not fit this ideal, then it was his or
her own fault and no one else had anything to do with it. This was a common theme centuries ago,
and it still a common theme today, though which particular characterizes makes someone privileged
continues to change over time. In Jonathan Swift s essay A Modest Proposal, Swift uses the
elements of satire to ridicule Irish oppressors, specifically the Catholics and the rich.
LITERARY ANALYSIS
One of the most commonly used elements of satire is irony, which Swift uses freely to show the
monetary and religious ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The most significant part of this is the projector finding a useful ally in an American savage
currently residing in London, who confirms his hypothesis that young babies would make tasty and
wholesome dishes for the tables of Irish gentlemen, (Chowdhury) where Swift has included both
America and England, both locations being disliked by the Irish in varying amounts. Swift is
satirizing the Catholics and outside oppressors through his constant use of irony when speaking
about the unnecessary number of children in Ireland, especially after the prior famines.
Swift also uses hyperbole to show the differences between the rich and poor and the Catholics
and Protestants. In the first paragraph of A Modest Proposal, Swift exaggerates the way mothers
are forced to employ all their time in strolling to beg sustenance for their helpless infants (1) and
suggests that the only possible outcomes for these infants are to turn thieves for want of work, or
leave their dear native country, to fight for the Pretender in Spain, or sell themselves to the
Barbadoes (1). In omitting other possibilities, Swift is using hyperbole to portray the lack of
options for the poor in Ireland. Moreover, he dehumanizes the children when he decides that of the
hundred and twenty thousand children, already computed, twenty thousand may be reserved for
breed, ... which is more that we allow to sheep,

Snail Host Compatibility
General concept of snail host compatibility in schistosome infection
It is conceptualised that digenean trematodes were primitively parasites of molluscs; they only
later learned to utilise vertebrate hosts as a result of evolutionary host switching (Muller and
Wakelin, 2002; Lockyer et al., 2004). Nevertheless, transmission of vector borne parasites is
eminently dependent on the degree of vector susceptibility. In a vector parasite system,
compatibility occurs when the parasite is capable of infecting and being transmitted through the
vector and this compatibility is often at the specie or strain level for both parasite and vector
(Lockyer et al., 2004; Perrin et al., 2013). In contrast to the non schistosome molluscan vectors such
as Lymnaea truncatula and Physa acuta, higher levels of calcium (Ca2+) and linoleate in
Biomphalaria and Bulinus vectors make them a suitable host ... Show more content on

The Red Queen hypothesis is based on the assumption that parasite must genetically match its host
for a successful infection (King et al., 2011) and therefore, they must both have an adaptive
molecular dialogue. Compatibility polymorphism where some parasite strains are compatible
with certain host strains but not with others and vice versa also occurs (Mitta et al., 2012; Perrin
et al., 2013). Strains such as BS 90, 13 16 R1 and 10 R2 displaying resistance, and susceptible
strains such as the M line and NMRI serve as a means to evaluate and better understand the driving
mechanisms underpinning snail resistance and susceptibility (Pila et al., 2016). The susceptibility
or resistance of a snail to schistosome infection is a heritable characteristic, and both snail and
parasite genetic constitutions shape the outcome of infection. In Biomphalaria species, resistance
appears to be a dominant character. The expression of a single dominant gene during the adulthood
of some Biomphalaria glabrata stocks confers their resistance to S. mansoni infection whereas,
susceptibility in

Descriptive Essay About Home
My definition for home is indescribable by word or by a simple thought, but home is rather of a
feeling. Home is the calmness and serenity that settles over me like a blanket on a cold, snowy
night, just a silent assurance telling me I belong there. It took me quite a bit of time to
understand where exactly that place is, and I didn t know that the answer was always right in
front of me. This feeling would come and go, and I would never recognize it because I knew that
only the house I lived in was my home. Home is in fact more than what the words in the dictionary

ABSTRACT
Due to their exceptional mechanical properties, thermal conductivity and electrically insulating
property, boron nitride nanotubes and nanosheets have promising applications in the field of
engineering and biomedical sciences. Accurate modeling of failure or fracture in a nanomaterials
inherently involves coupling of atomic domains of crack, voids as well as deformation mechanism
originating from grain boundaries. This review highlights the recent progress made in the atomistic
modeling of boron nitride nanofillers. Continuous improvements in computational power and
parallel processing have made it possible to study structural properties of these nanofillers in
atomistic state. These atomistic simulations are emerging as viable alternatives to time consuming
and costly experimental means.

Indian Tradition Of Indi An Important Part Of Indian...
Gold has been an important part of India culture for much of it s history. It has had major
influences Indian Hindu weddings. Gold has been apart of Indian weddings for much of India s
history. During this time, the meaning of gold and what it symbolizes in the weddings as changed
greatly throughout India s long history. Today, gold is used to show status both in the community
and the household. It also symbolizes purity in the wedding, which reinforces the social statusof the
bride. Gold wishes luck upon the couple so they will have a good marriage, which is essential to
social status in India. Since India has had such a long history with gold, many still believe that
gold in weddings is used for traditional purposes. It is still a wide held belief that gold is used in
the wedding ceremony as a form of a dowry that the bride s family is giving to the groom s
family. Culture is constantly changing and the use of gold in India weddings an example of the
constant flux of culture. While gold is used in the ceremony for many reasons, it representing a
dowry is just not one of them. While dowries are still around in India today, the way the are
handled and what is used to pay them has changed from the traditional dowries, which were
primarily completely made out of gold. Rather gold is used in the wedding ceremony to show to the
status, not only of each individual but as their new status as a married couple, thus presenting them
and their newly combined statuses to society.

Disaster Recovery Plan It 244 Week 3 Essay
Disaster Recovery Plan Paper
Fernando Hernandez
IT244/Axia College
Introduction
In this assignment, I will go over the different items related to the disaster recovery plan. I will go
over the purpose of the plan, explain the key elements that go into a plan, the methods of testing the
plan, and why we test the plan. All while explaining why the disaster recovery plan is so critical to
businesses in the event of an emergency.
What is the purpose of a Disaster Recovery Plan?
The purpose of the disaster recovery plan is to ensure the process of recovering mission critical
systems has a plan of action in case of a disaster. The disaster recovery plan makes sure all the steps
to bring up the critical to less critical systems ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The five methods of testing a disaster recovery plan are providing a walk through, setting up
simulations, having checklists, parallel testing, and making a full interruption test. The walk
through helps test the plan by finding things more important or irrelevant that can be added or
omitted from the plan. Simulations provide practice sessions of what a disaster would or could do
to a business. Simulations also show the plan when it is put into effect. Checklists provide a list
that each department uses to check off tasks completed. Parallel testing is a clone system that runs
with the main system until the main system is ready to come back online. Full interruption will
stop the production systems fully and start them back up to see the programs work or fail.
Why does a DRP require testing?
A disaster recovery plan requires testing so that all things are planned ahead of time and ready to
go in the case of an emergency. New items or untrained personnel can come into the business and
need to be added to the plan. This will need to be tested also to ensure it is covered when an
emergency happens. In addition, everything on the plan may look good when in writing but until
the plan is used in a real situation, the business will never know if it works properly. Testing the
plan in a simulation disaster scenario is the best way to know how objects and people react to the
situation.

moments, but here are some of them. The first super bowl, super bowl 1, Packers and Chiefs.
The score was Packers 35 and Chiefs 10. The teams were led by coach Vince Lombardi and the
quarterback Bart Starr. The Chief s coach was Hank Stram and their quarterback was Len
Dawson. The super bowl trophy is named The Lombardi Trophy because of Vince Lombardi
winning the first super bowl. 1972 Undefeated Dolphins Only one team, that s it. The Dolphins are

Inside Job Is A Documentary That Covers The 2008 Financial...
Inside Job is a documentary that covers the 2008 financial crisis. The first part of the documentary
focuses on what led to the financial meltdown. In the 1980 s the finance industry exploded after
investment banks went public, leading these firms to have an excess of stockholder s money. Then
the president at the time, Ronald Reagan, began a 30 year period of financial deregulation. Reagan
deregulated savings and loan companies which allowed them to make risky investments with
depositor s money, which led to taxpayers paying $124 billion dollars when they inevitably failed.
Executives in these companies were also stealing money from their depositors. Another problem
was that many of the executives from these investment banks ended up being put into powerful
positions in the government where they pushed for even more deregulation. In the late 90 s the
internet bubble burst after investment banks knowingly promoted internet companies they knew
would fail. A financial innovation known as derivatives became a $50 trillion business yet they
were completely unregulated. When there was an attempt to regulate this market, it was almost
immediately shut down and a law was put in place banning all regulation of derivatives. Under
these new rules it created a new securitization food chain. Investment banks were creating complex
derivatives called collateralized debt obligationand selling these debts to investors. Then these
CDO s were rated by rating agencies, with most of them

The Perks Of Public Ownership
The Perks of Public Ownership The theories of why firms go public provide insight into why
firms go private because they examine many of the costs and benefits of being a public firm
(Bharath; p6, 2009). Firms turn to listing for a number of different reasons. The motivations for
an IPO tend to differ across firms and countries, but in general, going public allows for enhanced
external monitoring, ability to raise capital for growth and acquisitions, increase in investor
recognition, as well as allowing a company to strengthen its bargaining power with creditors.
Access to Capital One of the main reasons that firms choose to list on public markets is so they
can gain access to equity capital. As Roell** puts forward, access to new... Show more content on

Alongside this, Kim Weisbach** analysed numerous IPOs from over 38 countries, it was found
that almost all the firms they studied had raised substantial amounts of new capital from their
IPOs (2008). The cost of capital plays a large factor in this phenomenon. By listing themselves
on the public markets, the visibility of a firm increases, by using this status firms can create
competition between suppliers of finance, allowing the firm to negotiate private capital at more
competitive rates, thereby creating cheaper finance. Pagano** found that Italian firms
executing an IPO would experience a 0.3% reduction in their cost of credit after they became
public (2008). To highlight the point even further, we can bring forward the situation of a single
financing source that, as put forward by Chemmanur et al, will be less than fully diversified, and
will have considerably more bargaining power relative to the entrepreneur (p269, 1999). Finally,
this is supported by the Bancel et al study, over half of the CFOs agree that the IPO has
reinforced the firm s balance of power with bankers and creditors (p863, 2009). Investor
Recognition and Visibility As mentioned briefly in the prior paragraph, the visibility of firms is
elevated post listing, and this is another main factor as to why firms go public. Not only does this
act to lower the cost of capital, but as Stoughton et al** mention, by going public the firm has

Leadership Is Important When Conducting A Organization,...
Leadership is important when conducting a organization, program, or event. There are many
changes in educational organizations. The article talks about how educational organizations can
adjust to change and what it takes to implement change. Change is always good especially with the
changes of time. Technology is way more advance in the millieum era then it was in the 1990 s so
changing educational organizations should arrange with the advancement of the era. Educational
organizations that are behind with advancement could possibly fail and not succeed with a lack of
participants. According to Martincic They are incited by a number of factors: technological
advancement, changed expectations and needs of the clients, changemarket conditions, changing of
legistration, changed social values etc. (p.g 1). The article also goes into detail about being able to
come together and take intination in developing a plan to create change.
When individuals want to implement change they have to develop not only a plan but also have
resources and a committee or team. Therefore more then one idea or suggestion will make the plan
worthwhile of pursuing. Individuals who would want change also have to reach out to stakeholders
and politicians. Politicans are on the forefront of reaching a lot of people. As said by Martincic
(2015), Much more interesting for the long term efficiency of an organization is the change that

The North Shore Animal League
I ve created a campaign for the North Shore Animal League and it will be based on animal rights.
The goal I want my message to achieve is how it s not acceptable for animals to be abused and
abandoned. I ve chosen animal rights as my issue because upon growing up in Brooklyn I ve
encountered many dogs who were abused by their owners and were able to get away with it which
really upset me. A propagandacampaign is needed to raise public awareness for the animals that
are abused and homeless in hopes of people having a heart and adopting them. The North Shore
Animal League will first discuss animal rights and how animal abuse and homelessness is at an
all time high today among animals. There will also be various pictures and statistics shown to
offer the audience insight on which dog and cat breeds are the most abused and homeless. For
example, due to their small size and temperament with people Chihuahuas are among one of the
most abused and homeless dog breeds. The organization will then discuss their plan to remedy
the issue of animal abuse and homelessness by opening up animal shelters in urban areas in
Staten Island and Brooklyn to lower animal abuse and homelessness. These shelters will provide
the animal s food, water, and medicine, which are the main necessities for them to survive. By
opening these new shelters, it will ensure the animal s safety and well being until people are ready
to adopt and bring them home. Twitter and WordPress are the two types of

health care and social care was far from clear and could not easily be for older and disabled people.
In 1966 the NAB was abolished and replaced by the Supplementary Benefits
Commission. In 1968 this was absorbed into a new Department of Health and Social Security
which replaced the Ministries of Health and National Insurance, where it remained until 1988, when
a separate Department of Health was established. Responsibility for local government moved
permanently from the Ministry of Health to a separate in department in 1951, further complicating
the relationship between health and social care.
Few new Homes or hospitals were constructed until the late 1950s due to financial constraints.
Surveys in the 1960s found deplorable conditions in both hospitals and Homes for older and

There was a trend from the 1950s towards the replacement of in patient with out patient treatment

Ethnic minority disadvantage in the labour market
This research explores differences between ethnic groups in labour market participation
(unemployment, employment and hours worked) and employment status (low, mid and high
skilled occupation levels) for those in work.
It examines whether there is clustering into particular occupations for some ethnic groups, and
looks at how much geography matters for employment and job status for different ethnic groups.
This paper finds that:
In terms of unemployment, the overwhelming picture is one of continuing ethnic minority
disadvantage compared with the White British majority group;
There is a considerable difference in unemployment rates between places for each ethnic group, as

Advantages And Disadvantages Of SOA Project
Abstract: In the last few decades SOA (Service Oriented Architecture) has become the new trend in
the IT industry. Many organizations tend to migrate to SOA in order to cope with the rapidly
changing business. Effort estimation of SOA projects has become a real challenge to project
managers due to the limited literatures addressing this issue. The traditional effort estimation
techniques do not fit SOA projects entirely, as SOA has unique characteristics were not addressed
by the traditional cost estimation approaches. These characteristics include: loose coupling,
reusability, composability and discoverability. On the other hand, SOA cost estimation approaches
are still immature and can t be used in real life projects, as they are more guidelines... Show more

AUS SMAT Framework:
AUS SMAT Framework ‎was developed by NICTA organization‎‎[7]. It aims to
develop a framework for scope, cost and effort for SOA projects. In this framework the SOA
project is decomposed into its constituent services. Each service is classified to its type either:
service mining, service development, service integration or application development. Each service
type has its own specific activities, templates, cost factors and cost functions. The overall cost of
the project will be a summation of the cost of its constituent services.
Divide and Conquer (D C) Approach: The Divide and Conquer approach‎‎‎ ‎[5] was
inspired from the divide and conquer algorithm that is used to solve complicated problems. This
cost estimation approach not only takes the advantage of composability nature of services but also
solves the complexity problem of SOA. The whole project is broken down into services; the cost
of each service is estimated. The overall cost of the application is the summation of the cost of the
component services ‎‎

Effects Of The Past On The Present

Holodomor: The Effects of the Past on the Present The past profoundly affects the future. When a
people is oppressed in a manner intended to crush their spirit, one of two things can happen: either
they will be crushed, as intended, or their resolve will be solidified. Despite occupations in the past,
Ukraine has maintained a nationalistic spirit that has transcended many decades and dictators. Over
eighty years ago Ukraine was nearly pushed to a breaking point. This occurred when Joseph Stalin
instituted a brutal, yet bloodless murder of Ukrainians, something that continues to have an impact
on Ukraine and Russia. In late November of 2013, Ukrainian leadership under President
Yanukovych, decided to pursue closer trade ties with Russia instead of the European Union
(Ukraine Crisis). This is vitally important because it revealed a split in the country which dates
back to the early 1930 s. This split, according to a BBC article named Ukraine Crisis, resulted in
the people of Western Ukraine inciting a protest numbering over 800,000. As explained by Chalupa,
the European Union, or E.U., membership means distance from Russia and increased economic
potential. Ties with Russia are opposed by the majority of the country because of the tumultuous
past the two have together. With this in mind, the geo political division that exists between the east

Congenital Heart Disease ( Chd )
Congenital Heart disease (CHD)
Congenital heart disease is also known as Congenital heart defect or congenital cardiovascular
malformations. The word congenital means existing at birth. Congenital heart defects change the
normal flow of blood to the heart. CHD is the most common type of birth defect, this disease
affects 8 out of every 1,000 newborns. More than 35,000 babies each year in the United States are
born with a congenital heart defect.
If you have a congenital heart defect it means your heart has a problem with its structure when you
were born. Defects may involve the inferior walls of the heart, the valves inside the heart, the
arteries and veins that carry the blood to the heart or the body. You may also be born with a small
hole in your heart or it could be more severe. In these cases there may be very serious conditions,
but many of which can be treated with surgery.
Congenital heart disease include many different types of defects. Some of these defects are
simple, such as a hole in the septum. Others, are more complex and severe that include
combinations of simple defects, problems with the location of blood vessels leading to and from
the heart and other serious problems with the development of the heart. The different types of
defects ranging from simple to complex are holes in the heart (septal defects or atrial septal defects

Diabetic Retinopathy And Non Endocrine Fibroblast Growth...
Diabetic retinopathy is induced by changes in retinal vasculature due to diabetic pathologies.
Studies have shown endocrine fibroblast growth factor 21(FGF21) and non endocrine fibroblast
growth factor 1(FGF1) have therapeutic potential by increasing insulin sensitivity in vivo through
unresolved mechanisms. To investigate this effect within the retina, exogenous FGF1(0 100ng/mL)
and FGF21(0 100ng/mL) were administered to the murine photoreceptor cell line, 661W. FGF1(p
0.05), with a high dose restorative effect for both FGFs. Results on the effects of FGFs on scar
tissue is pending. FGF1 and FGF21 demonstrate therapeutic potential in type 2 diabetic retina.
Introduction
The global presence of type 2 diabetes, which results when insulin producing beta cells cannot
compensate for rising insulin resistance, has risen constantly. In 2014, 9 percent of the adults
worldwide had diabetes, and of those with diabetes, 90 percent had type 2 diabetes (World Health
Organization, 2014). Not only has this global phenomenon has influenced other countries but it also
has increased prevalence of obesity and insulin resistance in the United States, affecting 29.1 million
people with diabetes (National Diabetes Statistics Report, 2014). The current treatments for
diabetes, such as Thiazolidinediones, are highly effective oral medications with detrimental side
effects including congestive heart failure, bone loss and weight gain(Suh et al. 2014).

Regulations that limit the number and range of suppliers; b. Limit the suppliers ability to compete;
c. Reduce the incentive of the suppliers to compete; d. Affect investment. This report also compares
India s current regulatory framework with pre and postderegulation of the United States of America
and Brazil, as models of potential sector growth and future reform. Furthermore, the report also
presents regulatory solutions of the European Union, UK, and Australia as alternative models. The
report offers policy recommendations that will minimize and, in some cases eliminate, certain
prevailing barriers to competition. 1However, a thorough analysis of procurement procedures
requires a separate report exclusively dedicated to these specific regulations and their effect on
competition of service and equipment. 1 CONFIDENTIAL This report identified a number of rules
and regulations which according to our evaluation parameters inhibit competition within India s
civil aviation sector. In the next few pages, this report will briefly list the regulation, its competitive
implications and recommendation. Sections beyond this executive summary will address each

Carter was Absolute on Human Rights?
An Examination of President Jimmy Carter s Human Rights Policy in Argentina
Introduction:
President Jimmy Carter declared in his inaugural address that the US s commitment towards human
rights must be absolute . Human rights under Carter were anything but absolute. Under his
presidency, the US sent contradictory messages: one opposing human rights violations and another
which seemed to overlook human rights abuses. The issue of human rights was not Carter s only
priority. In reality, human rights ended up being one of many of the Carter administration priorities.
All of these foci collided, and left Carter with no real center to his foreign policy. One of Carter s
first attempts to implement his human rights initiatives was in Argentina. The authoritarian, rightist
Juntas organized a violent repression against political dissidents. Trying to distance himself from
the policies of Ford/Kissinger, Carter attempted to pressure the authoritarian regime to improve their
human rights record via reductions in military aid and economic sanctions. These maneuvers led to
some mild improvements initially, but ultimately came back to hurt the Carter administration after
the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan. Argentina s decision to align itself with the Soviets rather than
the US on the issue of grain embargoes is an example of the Carter administration s poor foresight.
Carter over compartmentalized his foreign policy agenda and

Essay on Strategic Planning
Introduction There are a variety of strategic planning models, including goals based, issues based,
organic, scenario. * Goals based planning is perhaps the most common as it starts with a focus on
the organization s mission (and vision and/or values), goals to work toward the mission, strategies
to achieve the goals, and action planning. * Issues based strategic planning often starts by
examining issues facing the organization, strategies to address those issues, and action plans. *
Organic strategic planning begins with the organization s vision and values and then action plans to
achieve the vision with adhering to the values. Major differences in how organizations carry out the

Bon Secours reconsidered the acquisition in light of its mission statement that emphasized a caring
environment for its customers and employees. The nursing homes deal would have violated the
mission statement so the deal was rejected. (Source: Tom Krattenmaker, Write a Mission Statement
that Your Company is Willing to Live, Harvard Management Update, March 2002.) Typically, for a
NPO what is also important is that who writes the mission statement. Considering only senior
management or executives could be one answer, but I believe that since a NPO does most of its
operational work largely through volunteers and less through employees, it becomes important to
have representation of this constituency as well. The closer the mission statement is to what these
volunteers considers is important for their end customers, the more likely is the high quality of the
output and easier to continue recruiting volunteers. However, since many of the large NPO that
we know and will discuss in this paper have been existing for decades, it also makes sense to
evaluate mission statements in the context of emerging needs of the customers every 20 30 years.
This doesn t imply major shifts in the mission statement, but indicates adding newer dimensions
/nuances to the same by evaluating: * Is the mission up to date? Does it reflect what the

The Lack Of Media Distraction
Today, the web grants the people easy accessibility to unprecedented amounts of knowledge.
However, a growing body of scientific proof suggests that the web, with its constant distractions

thinker Seneca could have place it best 2,000 years ago: To be all over is to be obscurity (Carr,

The Frivolity of Evil by Theodore Dalrymple Essay
The article The Frivolity of Evil by Theodore Dalrymple analyzes the causes of human misery. His
work as a psychiatrist in Great Britains slums afforded him a great vantage point to analyze this
topic nearer to the fundamental of human existence. He concluded that the citizens of Great Britian
willingly participated in precipitating their own misery. Their are three recurring theme in his
article the lack of moral responsibility, extreme individualismand lack of cultural expectations.
Dalrymple begins his article by showing the mind frame of a prisoner released from prison, who
had the idea that he had paid his debt to society. In order to get his point across Dalrymple

He believed that this shift in thinking leads people to imply that dissatisfaction with life is itself
pathological. The idea that this is an illness that can be cured by a doctor. Dalrymple believed that
this form of thinking stands in the way of people understanding their situation and impedes moral
change. The lack of moral responsibility was a recurring theme he observed in his patients. The
patient who claimed unhappiness had three different children by three different men. The fathers of
the three children lived a life of criminality and violence. Knowing this she still choose to enter into
a relationship with them regardless of the consequences. What is confounding is the lack of moral
responsibility the patients exhibit towards her children. Their is no punishment from the government
or society for the actions she makes. The idea of self interest is prominent is this articles. These
individuals base their decisions on their on self interest. They only have a responsibility to their
own happiness. Her actions are due to the fact that she did not want to remain alone. He mother
based her decisions to turn her daughter out based on the thought that her own sexual liaisons were
more important than caring for her child. The mother of the patient created a cycle of misery for
her daughter that, the daughter in turn will create for her own children.

Freedom of the Press Versus Right to Privacy
Freedom of the press versus right to privacy
ByRobert Skidelsky (China Daily)
Privacy has become a big issue in contemporary jurisprudence. The right to privacy is enshrined in
the United Nations Declaration of Human Rights, and guaranteed by Article 8 of the European
Convention on Human Rights. But Article 8 is balanced by Article 10, which guarantees free
expression of opinion . So what right has priority when they conflict?
Under what circumstances, for example, is it right to curtail press freedom in order to protect the
right to privacy, or vice versa? The same balance is being sought between the right of citizens to
data privacy and government demands for access to personal information to fight crime, terrorism,
and so on. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A law that curtails the abuse of press power while protecting its freedom to expose the abuse of
political power would be difficult, but not impossible, to frame. The essential principle is that the
media should not be allowed to pander to the public s prurience under cover of protecting the public
interest.
What famous people indeed ordinary people, too do in private should be off limits to the media
unless they give permission for those activities to be reported, photographed, or filmed. The only
exceptions would be if a newspaper has reasonable grounds for believing that the individuals
concerned are breaking the law, or that, even if they are not breaking the law, they are behaving in
such a way as to render them unfit to perform the duties expected of them.
Thus, a pop star s consumption of illegal drugs may be reported, but not his or her sexual habits
(if they are legal). The private life of a politician may be revealed if it is expected to have
consequences for the way the country is being governed; that of a top executive of a public
company if it may affect the returns to shareholders.
This should be the only public interest defense available to a media outlet that is sued for invasion
of privacy. The media might become a bit drearier, but public life would be far healthier.
The author is a professor emeritus of political economy at Warwick University

An Introduction Of Martingale Theory
Introduction to Martingale Theory
Martingale Theory is a simple mathematical model which models sequence of a fair game [1]. It
is a stochastic process on some probability space {О©, F, P}. Originally it was used as a betting
strategy during 18th century in France. In 1934, Paul LГ©vy introduced concept of Martingale in
probability theory. It is named after La Grande Martingale, which means strategy for even odd bets
where bets are doubled every time we lose. Idea behind this betting strategy is tht one cannot expect
gains without taking risks.
To understand Martingale, we need to understand Filtration first.
Filtration

Every time the person lost he had to double his bet so that the first win would help him regain

and place it back in the container along with another ball of the same color. Draw another ball from
the same container. Probability of drawing red ball in first try is r/(r+b) and that of blue ball is b

  • 2. Slavery in the South Essay Slavery in the South A large majority of whites in the South supported slavery even though fewer of a quarter of them owned slaves because they felt that it was a necessary evil and that it was an important Southern institution. In 1800 the population of the United States included 893,602 slaves, of which only 36,505 were in the northern states. Vermont, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New York, and New Jersey provided for the emancipation of their slaves before 1804, most of them by gradual measures. The 3,953,760 slaves at the census of 1860 were in the southern states. Eminent statesmen from the earliest period of the national existence, such as Thomas Jefferson and George Washington regarded slavery... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If at one time slavery had been common in much of the Americas, by the middle of the 19th century it remained only in Brazil, Cuba, Puerto Rico, and the southern United States. In an era that celebrated liberty and equality, the slaveholding Southern states appeared backward and repressive. This drew most Northerner s into the abolitionist movement not so much for the behalf of slaves, but how slavery made the United States look. Despite this, the slave economy grew rapidly, enriched by the spectacular increase in cotton cultivation to meet the growing demand of Northern and European textile manufacturers. Southern economic growth, however, was based largely on cultivating more land. The South did not undergo the industrial revolution that was beginning to transform the North; the South remained almost entirely rural. In 1860 there were only five Southern cities with more than 50,000 inhabitants (only one of which, New Orleans, was in the Deep South); less than 10 percent of Southerners lived in towns of at least 2500 people, compared to more than 25 percent of Northerners. The South also increasingly lagged in other indications of modernization, from railroad construction to literacy and public education. For these reasons, many Southerners felt that slavery was all too necessary because their agrarian economy was based around it. Many feared that the abolition of slavery would result in a Southern economic collapse. The biggest gap between North and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Hackers find the loop holes in the present system and penetrate into it so as to know the information in order to gain personally. And when the term ethical gets attached with the hacker he becomes the savior. The work of both a hacker and an ethical hacker are the same, but there is just a slight difference that one is illegal and tries to destroy your privacy for his professional or personal gain while the other person is legal and tries to protect your privacy in any way. These limitations lead researchers and coaches to monitor athletes body mass and sum of skin folds rather than estimating percentage body fat (Gore, 2000). Rugby players require leg power to, jump and lift in the lineout, during the initial push in the scrum, for tackling and for explosive acceleration (Duthie et al. 2006). The development of explosive leg power is vital for all participants of rugby. The forwards require power in the line outs and scrummage situations. Lineout s, require taller forwards, they can achieve greater jumping height, resulting in competitive lineouts (Quarrie et al., 1996).The back line players need the ability to accelerate over short distances and to make and break tackles (Nicholas 1997). One test of explosive leg power is the vertical jump test (Carlson et al 1994, Nicholas 1997). As the backrow forwards are required to jump during the lineout, the specificity of the test for these players is increased. Grip strength is required for players to bind properly in the scrum, thus the grip strength would be a useful tool for forwards (Quarrie Wilson, 2000). Research conducted in the past has been focused on the causes and consequences of heroin abuse primarily from the standpoint of the addict and never the clear view point on the effect of families. It is thus worth exploring on this menacing drug in quest to look for ways and means of eradicating it. After the passing of the act, regular users in US switched to heroin, which at the time was not regulated by this Act. In the mid 1920s, intravenous injection of heroin became popular but was later banned by the US government. • 7. A Short Note On Buddhism Essay Final Term Paper Buddhism Have you ever wondered how meditation, kindness, and suffering can help you reach true peace? Today, I will be informing you on how these concepts as well as a few others play an important role in reaching none other than, Nirvana. What I am going to be discussing is one of the great Asian philosophical and religious traditions, Buddhism. Those who practice Buddhism believe that life goes on and on in many reincarnations or rebirths. The eternal hope for all who practice Buddhism is that through reincarnation one comes back into successively better lives; until one achieves the goal of being free from pain and suffering and not having to come back again. This wheel of rebirth, known as Samsara, goes on forever until one achieves Nirvana. The Buddhist definition of Nirvana is the highest state of spiritual bliss, as absolute immortality through absorption of the soul into itself, but preserving individuality. Birth is not the beginning and death is not the end. This cycle of life has no beginning and can go on forever without an end. The ultimate goal for every Buddhist, Nirvana, is to accomplish total enlightenment and liberation. By achieving this goal, one can be liberated from the never ending round of birth, death, and rebirth. Transmigration, the Buddhist cycle of birth, death, and rebirth, does not involve the reincarnation of a spirit, but only the rebirth of a consciousness containing the seeds of good and evil deeds. • 8. King Lear Adaptations I think that the National Theater s King Lear was the more effective play. This is for two reasons, because it was had more hidden details and had better acting. These two features made the play easier to watch and more entertaining. First off, the National Theater s play had more hidden details that gave the viewers subtle clues as to the setting and characters, a great example of showing instead of telling which made the play much more interesting. An example of this was the microphone for Cordelia and her future husband was pointed to his side, even though Cordelia was there alone. This shows the lack of respect that women were given, King Lear was symbolically giving away land to a non existent husband over his blood borne daughter. This reveals how little he ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The National Theater s King Lear had other intricacies such as King Lear hitting Reagan s rear shows that his love might be one of an inappropriate nature and reveals some of his character traits. Secondly, in the National Theater s adaptation of King Lear, I felt the actors and actresses had better acting. King Lear was shown as being crazier and more short tempered which makes his descent into madness later on more believable. It also shows that he is prone to overreacting as he flips over tables when he feels unsatisfied, this leads the viewer to see why it made sense in his mind to banish Cordelia. In Olivier s play, King Lear is shown as much more level headed which makes it out of character for him to banish Cordelia and even hold the contest in the first place. As well, in the National Theater s King Lear the sisters Goneril and Reagan were portrayed more realistically. Goneril delivered her speech with a hint of nervousness, which would be likely given her father s unpredictableness and how important this was. She had to hope that her

The ideas that were brought to light during the revolutions later defined how the states were reformed. The reformed states would later take on industrialization. During the American and French Revolutions some ideas were brought up that later defined the state formations. The idea of popular sovereignty allowed for states to become more democratic. This idea to allow the people to have some authority over the sovereign was brought about by John Locke. People wanted freedom, individual freedom to be exact. In terms of political and legal equality, the idea was that all individuals would be equal under the law. State reformation began through acquiring independence. Independence was acquired by means of war and conflict. There was later American, Haitian, Brazilian, and Mexican independence. For the Haitian Revolution, a slave revolt broke out and was led by a man named Toussaint L Ouverture. Mexico became independent due to Napoleon invading Spain and weakening the royal control of the colonies and the independence movement led by SimГіn Bolivar. Pedro the King s son agreed to an independent Brazil. Industrialization began through new inventions and use of material. Coal replaced the use of wood. Some of the new inventions included the fluttering shuttle, spinning mule, water driven power loom, steam power, and different modes of transportation. Social classes were formed, ... They are simple in structure and have no nucleus with linear chromosomes. Bacteria are essential to life, and reproduction of other bacteria which helps play a role in decomposition of organic matter and the cycling of elements such as nitrogen and carbon, which are elements necessary to live. Due to this, plants and animals can use nitrogen to create nucleic acids along with amino acids, which are the essential building blocks of DNA. They also help break down food in the digestive system, which allows us to obtain the nutrients we need, and bacteriahelps develop our immune system to fight other illnesses that... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The bacterium being observed was E. coli, which codes for green fluorescent protein. E. coli is a bacterium that normally lives in the intestines of humans and animals alike, and can cause infection. One hopes to observe a glow from a green fluorescent protein (GFP) which is typically made by a jellyfish. This will be made possible by the additional presence of arabinose, which acts as the inducing agent. The inducing agent influences the transcription of the GFP and activates the transcriptional promoters. A promoter allows a foreign geneto fall into place much easier resulting in gene expression. It is expected that the combination of the plasmid, with the Lysogeny Broth (LB) and the arabinose (ARB) will transform the bacteria, and allow for growth of the bacteria in the presence of the antibiotic ampicillin (AMP) along with an observable glow under ultraviolet (UV) light. Hypothesis: The Agar plate with the LB/AMP/ARB in the +pGLO will be the only plate to display growth and a glow when compared to the other agar plates. Unfortunately, he lost the battle, but President Abraham Lincolnsaw his promise and promoted him to Brigadier General on August seventh, 1861. Before his March to the sea he had accomplished a lot, an example of this is the Atlanta campaign that took place between May and September 1864. Together with General Grant, they believed that they had to destroy the Confederacy s capacity for waging war. They would do this by attacking the economic, strategic, and physiological aspects of the South to bring it to its knees. The strategies that Sherman adopted could be compared with the scorched earth tactic that entailed destroying everything. Although he instructed his men to only destroy infrastructure in place where guerrilla warfare overwhelmed his army . He quickly ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A re evaluation was done in 1995, and a decision was made to combine three areas into one complex. The provincially significant wetland is listed as unimpaired and protection was recommended in 2000 by Nottawasaga Valley Conservation Authority s watershed health monitoring summary. As the area provides vital biological, social, and hydro geological functions, protection is crucial. Not only does the area act as flood control, water purification, and sediment containment, it is a prime fishing location for locals as it provides a cold water habitat and spawning grounds for several varieties of game fish such as brook trout (Salvelinus fontinalis), Chinook salmon (Oncorhynchus tshawytscha), and rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss). • 18. Anger Is A Universal Emotion Anger is a universal emotion. It might make you act out and throw something, or it might boil up inside you until you blow up on some innocent person simply asking a question. How every person reacts to anger is different, some people may deal with anger more efficiently than others: like counseling, therapy or by taking medication that mainly focuses on depression or anxiety which fuels anger. People often wonder if they have anger problems and if it s genetic. Not many know what part of the brain anger comes from, or what triggers it. Red often symbolizes anger, because blood is red and so is fire, both associated with anger. Anger is hard to control, and it may not be your fault for controlling it due to genetics of anger. Thanks to science, studies have given us bits and pieces to the puzzle we have before us concerning anger. Being Raised in an Angry Environment The part of the brain that controls emotions including anger, occur in the amygdala. Science has shown that adolescences use their amygdala s for decision making more than adults, who use their frontal lobes. The reason people have anger can be from stress, abuse, finances, social or family issues. Factors like substance abuse and being raised by or with people with anger issues can affect ones way of dealing with and levels of anger. • 19. Persuasive Essay On The Right To Privacy According to Merriam Webster dictionary, privacy is the quality or state of being apart from company or observation, moreover, it is the freedom from unauthorized intrusion. In 1776, John Adams wrote that it had been the British right to search houses without justification that sparked the fight for independence. In other words, John Adams thought that it was an unjustified violation of privacywhich kindled one of history s most noteworthy revolutions. Despite the fact that nowhere in the U. S. Constitution does it express the right to privacy, today, the debate and controversy surrounding the right to privacy are debated endlessly. Privacy s definition has never changed, however, its meaning continues to evolve. Today, acts of terrorism, unjust searches, and mass surveillance influence privacy s definition and the regulation of collection, access, and use of personal information by private and public actors. Therefore, it is essential to ensure that the privacy standards serve to guarantee freedom and autonomy rather than unduly restricting it. Today s debate on privacy is much different than during the founding of independence while the concern and controversy are comparable. The concept of privacy innately spawns from many early writings firstly in the writings of Aristotle, in which he distinctly defines the differences between the public sphere of politics and political activity, the Polis, and the private or domestic sphere of the family, known as the Oikos. • 20. How Democratic Is The American Constitution Essay The question posed by both Madison and the Framers in the 85 Federalist Papers and Dahl in his book How Democratic is the American Constitution? is how effective the Constitution is at promoting the ideals of a democracy. For Dahl, there are several issues surrounding the Constitution, from its drafting, to its ideology, to its relevance. By analyzing Dahl s critiques of the Constitution in terms of the parallels that exist between factions and the two party system, the issue of unequal representation, and the necessity for the Framers to compromise on their ideals to ratify the Constitution, Dahl defined a clear argument based in his general disapproval for the Constitution. However, by combining Dahl s critiques with potential rebuttals from the opinions and perspectives of Madison and his fellow Federalists, it is evident that both Dahl and the Framers believed that if the constitution was completely successful, then the lives of the American people would be enhanced. While Dahl believed that the Constitution, ultimately, has not fully protected the rights of all persons, he, like the Framers, focused on the particulars of government that must be improved such that the American life is bettered. The Framer s notion of a republic, or democratic republic form of government, rested on the necessity to limit the formation and success of factions. Yet, as Dahl argued, the irony of Madison s aversions to factions is that, not long after the ratification of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Satire In A Modest Proposal The Morality of Irish Baby Food It is human nature to want to believe that if you have good living conditions, the everyone else must also have good living conditions; however, if someone did not fit this ideal, then it was his or her own fault and no one else had anything to do with it. This was a common theme centuries ago, and it still a common theme today, though which particular characterizes makes someone privileged continues to change over time. Swift is satirizing the Catholics and outside oppressors through his constant use of irony when speaking about the unnecessary number of children in Ireland, especially after the prior famines. Swift also uses hyperbole to show the differences between the rich and poor and the Catholics and Protestants. In the first paragraph of A Modest Proposal, Swift exaggerates the way mothers are forced to employ all their time in strolling to beg sustenance for their helpless infants (1) and suggests that the only possible outcomes for these infants are to turn thieves for want of work, or leave their dear native country, to fight for the Pretender in Spain, or sell themselves to the Barbadoes (1). In omitting other possibilities, Swift is using hyperbole to portray the lack of options for the poor in Ireland. • 24. Snail Host Compatibility General concept of snail host compatibility in schistosome infection It is conceptualised that digenean trematodes were primitively parasites of molluscs; they only later learned to utilise vertebrate hosts as a result of evolutionary host switching (Muller and Wakelin, 2002; Lockyer et al., 2004). Nevertheless, transmission of vector borne parasites is eminently dependent on the degree of vector susceptibility. In a vector parasite system, compatibility occurs when the parasite is capable of infecting and being transmitted through the vector and this compatibility is often at the specie or strain level for both parasite and vector (Lockyer et al., 2004; Perrin et al., 2013). In contrast to the non schistosome molluscan vectors such as Lymnaea truncatula and Physa acuta, higher levels of calcium (Ca2+) and linoleate in Biomphalaria and Bulinus vectors make them a suitable host ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Red Queen hypothesis is based on the assumption that parasite must genetically match its host for a successful infection (King et al., 2011) and therefore, they must both have an adaptive molecular dialogue. Compatibility polymorphism where some parasite strains are compatible with certain host strains but not with others and vice versa also occurs (Mitta et al., 2012; Perrin et al., 2013). Strains such as BS 90, 13 16 R1 and 10 R2 displaying resistance, and susceptible strains such as the M line and NMRI serve as a means to evaluate and better understand the driving mechanisms underpinning snail resistance and susceptibility (Pila et al., 2016). The susceptibility or resistance of a snail to schistosome infection is a heritable characteristic, and both snail and parasite genetic constitutions shape the outcome of infection. In Biomphalaria species, resistance appears to be a dominant character. The expression of a single dominant gene during the adulthood of some Biomphalaria glabrata stocks confers their resistance to S. mansoni infection whereas, susceptibility in ... The five methods of testing a disaster recovery plan are providing a walk through, setting up simulations, having checklists, parallel testing, and making a full interruption test. The walk through helps test the plan by finding things more important or irrelevant that can be added or omitted from the plan. Simulations provide practice sessions of what a disaster would or could do to a business. Simulations also show the plan when it is put into effect. Checklists provide a list that each department uses to check off tasks completed. Parallel testing is a clone system that runs with the main system until the main system is ready to come back online. Full interruption will stop the production systems fully and start them back up to see the programs work or fail. Why does a DRP require testing? A disaster recovery plan requires testing so that all things are planned ahead of time and ready to go in the case of an emergency. New items or untrained personnel can come into the business and need to be added to the plan. This will need to be tested also to ensure it is covered when an emergency happens. In addition, everything on the plan may look good when in writing but until the plan is used in a real situation, the business will never know if it works properly. Testing the plan in a simulation disaster scenario is the best way to know how objects and people react to the situation. Conclusion In this assignment I have went over all of the key ... The first part of the documentary focuses on what led to the financial meltdown. In the 1980 s the finance industry exploded after investment banks went public, leading these firms to have an excess of stockholder s money. Then the president at the time, Ronald Reagan, began a 30 year period of financial deregulation. Reagan deregulated savings and loan companies which allowed them to make risky investments with depositor s money, which led to taxpayers paying $124 billion dollars when they inevitably failed. Executives in these companies were also stealing money from their depositors. Another problem was that many of the executives from these investment banks ended up being put into powerful positions in the government where they pushed for even more deregulation. In the late 90 s the internet bubble burst after investment banks knowingly promoted internet companies they knew would fail. A financial innovation known as derivatives became a $50 trillion business yet they were completely unregulated. When there was an attempt to regulate this market, it was almost immediately shut down and a law was put in place banning all regulation of derivatives. Under these new rules it created a new securitization food chain. Investment banks were creating complex derivatives called collateralized debt obligationand selling these debts to investors. The Perks Of Public Ownership The Perks of Public Ownership The theories of why firms go public provide insight into why firms go private because they examine many of the costs and benefits of being a public firm (Bharath; p6, 2009). Firms turn to listing for a number of different reasons. The motivations for an IPO tend to differ across firms and countries, but in general, going public allows for enhanced external monitoring, ability to raise capital for growth and acquisitions, increase in investor recognition, as well as allowing a company to strengthen its bargaining power with creditors. Access to Capital One of the main reasons that firms choose to list on public markets is so they can gain access to equity capital. As Roell** puts forward, access to new... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Alongside this, Kim Weisbach** analysed numerous IPOs from over 38 countries, it was found that almost all the firms they studied had raised substantial amounts of new capital from their IPOs (2008). The cost of capital plays a large factor in this phenomenon. By listing themselves on the public markets, the visibility of a firm increases, by using this status firms can create competition between suppliers of finance, allowing the firm to negotiate private capital at more competitive rates, thereby creating cheaper finance. Pagano** found that Italian firms executing an IPO would experience a 0.3% reduction in their cost of credit after they became public (2008). To highlight the point even further, we can bring forward the situation of a single financing source that, as put forward by Chemmanur et al, will be less than fully diversified, and will have considerably more bargaining power relative to the entrepreneur (p269, 1999). Finally, this is supported by the Bancel et al study, over half of the CFOs agree that the IPO has reinforced the firm s balance of power with bankers and creditors (p863, 2009). Investor Recognition and Visibility As mentioned briefly in the prior paragraph, the visibility of firms is elevated post listing, and this is another main factor as to why firms go public. Not only does this act to lower the cost of capital, but as Stoughton et al** mention, by going public the firm has ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 38. Advantages And Disadvantages Of SOA Project Abstract: In the last few decades SOA (Service Oriented Architecture) has become the new trend in the IT industry. Many organizations tend to migrate to SOA in order to cope with the rapidly changing business. Effort estimation of SOA projects has become a real challenge to project managers due to the limited literatures addressing this issue. The traditional effort estimation techniques do not fit SOA projects entirely, as SOA has unique characteristics were not addressed by the traditional cost estimation approaches. These characteristics include: loose coupling, reusability, composability and discoverability. On the other hand, SOA cost estimation approaches are still immature and can t be used in real life projects, as they are more guidelines... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Also, it is more guidelines than a practical cost estimation approach, which makes it hard to be applied in real projects. AUS SMAT Framework: AUS SMAT Framework ‎was developed by NICTA organization‎‎[7]. It aims to develop a framework for scope, cost and effort for SOA projects. In this framework the SOA project is decomposed into its constituent services. Each service is classified to its type either: service mining, service development, service integration or application development. Each service type has its own specific activities, templates, cost factors and cost functions. The overall cost of the project will be a summation of the cost of its constituent services. Divide and Conquer (D C) Approach: The Divide and Conquer approach‎‎‎ ‎[5] was inspired from the divide and conquer algorithm that is used to solve complicated problems. This cost estimation approach not only takes the advantage of composability nature of services but also solves the complexity problem of SOA. The whole project is broken down into services; the cost of each service is estimated. The overall cost of the application is the summation of the cost of the component services ‎‎ ... When a people is oppressed in a manner intended to crush their spirit, one of two things can happen: either they will be crushed, as intended, or their resolve will be solidified. Despite occupations in the past, Ukraine has maintained a nationalistic spirit that has transcended many decades and dictators. Over eighty years ago Ukraine was nearly pushed to a breaking point. This occurred when Joseph Stalin instituted a brutal, yet bloodless murder of Ukrainians, something that continues to have an impact on Ukraine and Russia. In late November of 2013, Ukrainian leadership under President Yanukovych, decided to pursue closer trade ties with Russia instead of the European Union (Ukraine Crisis). This is vitally important because it revealed a split in the country which dates back to the early 1930 s. This split, according to a BBC article named Ukraine Crisis, resulted in the people of Western Ukraine inciting a protest numbering over 800,000. As explained by Chalupa, the European Union, or E.U., membership means distance from Russia and increased economic potential. Ties with Russia are opposed by the majority of the country because of the tumultuous past the two have together. With this in mind, the geo political division that exists between the east and west has to be examined. The eastern part of the country is currently made ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The word congenital means existing at birth. Congenital heart defects change the normal flow of blood to the heart. CHD is the most common type of birth defect, this disease affects 8 out of every 1,000 newborns. More than 35,000 babies each year in the United States are born with a congenital heart defect. If you have a congenital heart defect it means your heart has a problem with its structure when you were born. Defects may involve the inferior walls of the heart, the valves inside the heart, the arteries and veins that carry the blood to the heart or the body. You may also be born with a small hole in your heart or it could be more severe. In these cases there may be very serious conditions, but many of which can be treated with surgery. Congenital heart disease include many different types of defects. Some of these defects are simple, such as a hole in the septum. Others, are more complex and severe that include combinations of simple defects, problems with the location of blood vessels leading to and from the heart and other serious problems with the development of the heart. The different types of defects ranging from simple to complex are holes in the heart (septal defects or atrial septal defects ASD), Patent Ductus Arteriosus (PDA abnormal blood flow occurs between the aorta and pulmonary artery), Narrowed valves ... Studies have shown endocrine fibroblast growth factor 21(FGF21) and non endocrine fibroblast growth factor 1(FGF1) have therapeutic potential by increasing insulin sensitivity in vivo through unresolved mechanisms. To investigate this effect within the retina, exogenous FGF1(0 100ng/mL) and FGF21(0 100ng/mL) were administered to the murine photoreceptor cell line, 661W. FGF1(p 0.05), with a high dose restorative effect for both FGFs. Results on the effects of FGFs on scar tissue is pending. FGF1 and FGF21 demonstrate therapeutic potential in type 2 diabetic retina. Introduction The global presence of type 2 diabetes, which results when insulin producing beta cells cannot compensate for rising insulin resistance, has risen constantly. In 2014, 9 percent of the adults worldwide had diabetes, and of those with diabetes, 90 percent had type 2 diabetes (World Health Organization, 2014). Not only has this global phenomenon has influenced other countries but it also has increased prevalence of obesity and insulin resistance in the United States, affecting 29.1 million people with diabetes (National Diabetes Statistics Report, 2014). • 43. An Examination Of President Jimmy Carter s Human Rights... Paige Cooper Carter was Absolute on Human Rights? An Examination of President Jimmy Carter s Human Rights Policy in Argentina Introduction: President Jimmy Carter declared in his inaugural address that the US s commitment towards human rights must be absolute . Human rights under Carter were anything but absolute. Under his presidency, the US sent contradictory messages: one opposing human rights violations and another which seemed to overlook human rights abuses. The issue of human rights was not Carter s only priority. In reality, human rights ended up being one of many of the Carter administration priorities. All of these foci collided, and left Carter with no real center to his foreign policy. One of Carter s first attempts to implement his human rights initiatives was in Argentina. The authoritarian, rightist Juntas organized a violent repression against political dissidents. Trying to distance himself from the policies of Ford/Kissinger, Carter attempted to pressure the authoritarian regime to improve their human rights record via reductions in military aid and economic sanctions. These maneuvers led to some mild improvements initially, but ultimately came back to hurt the Carter administration after the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan. Argentina s decision to align itself with the Soviets rather than the US on the issue of grain embargoes is an example of the Carter administration s poor foresight. Carter over compartmentalized his foreign policy agenda and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Typically, for a NPO what is also important is that who writes the mission statement. Considering only senior management or executives could be one answer, but I believe that since a NPO does most of its operational work largely through volunteers and less through employees, it becomes important to have representation of this constituency as well. The closer the mission statement is to what these volunteers considers is important for their end customers, the more likely is the high quality of the output and easier to continue recruiting volunteers. However, since many of the large NPO that we know and will discuss in this paper have been existing for decades, it also makes sense to evaluate mission statements in the context of emerging needs of the customers every 20 30 years. The right to privacy is enshrined in the United Nations Declaration of Human Rights, and guaranteed by Article 8 of the European Convention on Human Rights. But Article 8 is balanced by Article 10, which guarantees free expression of opinion . So what right has priority when they conflict? Under what circumstances, for example, is it right to curtail press freedom in order to protect the right to privacy, or vice versa? A law that curtails the abuse of press power while protecting its freedom to expose the abuse of political power would be difficult, but not impossible, to frame. The essential principle is that the media should not be allowed to pander to the public s prurience under cover of protecting the public interest. What famous people indeed ordinary people, too do in private should be off limits to the media unless they give permission for those activities to be reported, photographed, or filmed. The only exceptions would be if a newspaper has reasonable grounds for believing that the individuals concerned are breaking the law, or that, even if they are not breaking the law, they are behaving in such a way as to render them unfit to perform the duties expected of them. Thus, a pop star s consumption of illegal drugs may be reported, but not his or her sexual habits (if they are legal). The private life of a politician may be revealed if it is expected to have consequences for the way the country is being governed; that of a top executive of a public company if it may affect the returns to shareholders. This should be the only public interest defense available to a media outlet that is sued for invasion of privacy. The media might become a bit drearier, but public life would be far healthier. • 48. An Introduction Of Martingale Theory Introduction to Martingale Theory Martingale Theory is a simple mathematical model which models sequence of a fair game [1]. It is a stochastic process on some probability space {О©, F, P}. Originally it was used as a betting strategy during 18th century in France. In 1934, Paul LГ©vy introduced concept of Martingale in probability theory. It is named after La Grande Martingale, which means strategy for even odd bets where bets are doubled every time we lose. Idea behind this betting strategy is tht one cannot expect gains without taking risks. To understand Martingale, we need to understand Filtration first. Probability of drawing red ball in first try is r/(r+b) and that of blue ball is b /(r+b). In second draw, probability of red ball being drawn if a red ball was drawn first time will be (r+1)/(r+b+1).
