Ancient Greece And Ancient Egypt Essay
Ancient Greece and Ancient Egypt were both extremely prevalent societies between the times of 750
BCE and 450 BCE. For Greece, this includes a majority of what was considered the Archaic Age.
During this time Greece was divided into many separate cities that each had their own distinct
personality. For example, Spartans believed it was deeds, not words, that counted and they organized
their whole style of life around the demands of battle readiness. On the other hand, you have a city
like Athens that was considered the mother of democracy and consisted of a culture focused on
wisdom, freedom, and equality. During the start of this time period in Egypt, the area falls under
Kushite rule. Regardless of being under new rule, the ancient Egyptian culture and religion persisted
because the people of Kush incorporated the two cultures to strengthen the society. In fact, rulers and
elites wore Egyptian clothing, followed Egyptian burial practices, and, most importantly, professed
devotion to Egyptian gods. Both Greece and Egypt were very impacted by their religions and are still
studied to this day as mythology. Both of their religions were based around the idea of polytheism and
often their many gods would serve as an explanation to the unknown of the world. They would often
embody forces of nature and explain things like the seasons, the rising and setting of the sun, and even
naturally occurring disasters. As a result of trying to explain so many things, there are

Idiom In The Great Gatsby
The old saying, two steps forward, one step back originates from a Chinese anecdote, illustrating a
frog trying to climb out of a well. Every two steps the frog makes up the wall of the well, he falls back
another, essentially making the process exhausting and seemingly worthless. However, the frog
eventually reaches the top and recognizes that his hard work has paid off. The strenuous process this
idiom captures reflects the realities of the American Dream during the 1920s: a time where people
were encouraged to become successful regardless of their attributes. Although these beliefs promised
beauty and prosperity for all, its idealistic nature compelled individuals to fall short of these standards.

However, the contrast between the very wealthy upper class and the suffering lower class reveals this
progress is an illusion. F. Scott Fitzgerald uses his novel to expose the flaws in the idealistic American
Dream and in doing so, Fitzgerald foreshadows the destructive events following the 1920s. The eyes
of T.J. Eckleburg in the Valley of Ashes are illustrated as seeing the realities of America during the
twenties, alluding to the Great Depression as a result of the wealthy suppressing the poor. However,
although Fitzgerald is able to understand this reality, [he] knows that there is greatness to our country
and our idealism, (Hearne). He encourages individuals to continuously run faster, stretch our arms
farther, demonstrating advancement is necessary and retrogression is normal (Chapter 9). This gradual
process demonstrates the concept of taking two steps forward and one step back eventually humanity
will reach their goal in

Socio cultural Environment Banks serve for people s demand and need. People s attitude towards
banks is influenced by the social cultural environment. In China, customers are more conservative that
they prefer saving money. Therefore, more emphasis should be put on the retail banking services in

Emotions And The Human Race
There are many answers to why emotions are important. Emotions serve several purposes. Emotions
play a vital role in how we think and behave. Emotions influence our actions, our outlook, and our
personal characteristics. Emotions help us grow and survive. Emotions help us make decisions.
Emotions help people understand one another. The list goes on and on because emotions are key to the
existence of the human race. Without emotions the human race would be unable to function physically
or mentally.
According to the evolutionary approach to emotions, emotions are very important. They are the key to
animal and human survival. Evolution states that emotions are passed on through genetic replication.

Hardwired emotions are associated with the nervous system. It s detection of stimuli and recognition
of stimuli helps to decide what to do and then do it. Without this we would not be able to respond to
emotional encounters. For example, we need the stimulus, to thalamus, to emotion and response to be
able to react when we see a man with a gun. Without this brain and body connection to emotions, you
wouldn t be able to respond to threatening situations, decreasing your chances of survival. The
biological approach to emotions is important because it connects the brain to the body in order to help
further the survival of a species through interpretation of a situation and reacting to it.
The cognitive approach to emotions explains how people s emotions depend on their appraisal of an
occurrence. Appraisal of a situation can determine the relevance of a situation. There are two types of
appraisal, primary and secondary appraisal. They can help determine whether a situation is beneficial
to someone and if so how they might benefit from the situation or if a situation is dangerous and if so
how to cope. Appraisals are quick. The cognitive part of this is the emotion that occurs from the
situation. For example, when you feel something, rather than just reacting quickly, reflecting on what
appraisal you made leads you to that feeling. If you change the appraisal, you can change how you
feel. The feeling attached to that appraisal determines

Jig and the Stream of Life in Hemingway’s “Hills Like...
I see many people as I wander through the streets, yet I can only hear silence. I see couples getting
into a restaurant, order, check their smartphones, eat, and I wonder why they do not look up, face each
other and genuinely communicate. What I perceive, are men and women living not with, but next to
each other. This is exactly what I imagined when I read Hemingway s Hills Like White Elephants . A
couple waiting to catch a train and as they sit and drink some beers, they start talking about Jig s
pregnancy and the option of abortion. However, all I can hear is silence because they simply do not
speak the same language. They are both living in different worlds filled with divergent ideologies and
opinions. As a result, the words do not ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While the American, a practical man, looks at things in the function of their practicality and possesses
little imagination. Furthermore, he is dominant, a know all and a manipulator to the bone. He takes
care of the luggage, speaks Spanish and orders the drinks, not Jig. When sitting in the bar drinking
some beers, she looks off at the lines of hills and remarks: They look like white elephants, she said. I
ve never seen one, the man drank his beer. (251). I think Jig is referring to a concept, using figurative
language for a white elephant is, in fact, an idiom for a rare thing of which the cost exceeds its value.
In this perspective, it is an intertextual reference to the yet unborn baby. For the practical American,
the baby is just a costly thing, but Jig does not share his view. She values life and nature. In contrast,
her lover is talking about a real white, albino elephant. He cannot comprehend what Jig is referring to.
When Jig utters her disappointment about the poor taste of the Anis del Toro, they have a quarrel that
ends with him saying that they should try and have a fine time (252). Yet the way he puts it sounds
more like a demand, an imposition. As the discussion goes on whether or not to abort the child, the
American even appears to know that Jig wouldn t mind to do it. A matter that is clearly linked to
women, nonetheless, he knows: it s all perfectly natural (253). When, in fact, you could question

Fighting For Love Or Letting It Go
Fighting for Love or Letting it Go No one ever stops to think or wonder what it would be like if it
were harder to get married. In my own opinion, I think that a majority of people take marriage for
granted. It is sad to say that divorce will always be an option as soon as a couple gets married. It is
important to understand the meaning marriage and how it will change life. If more people were
focused on making a marriage work, then divorce rates may lower. It is also important to understand
that a marriage is hard work and has the ability to be emotionally tiring at times. People considering
getting married need to realize that they have to be emotionally and mentally ready for the time and
requirements a marriage takes to survive. Even ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the state of Missouri, it is actually very easy to get hitched as some may call it. According to U.S
Marriage Laws, the legal age to get married is 18. Whomever is getting married must apply for a
marriage license which permits people to actually get married. The permit will expire 30 days after
receiving one. People wanting to get married need to research all of the requirements for getting
married, even though there are few. Laws may vary from state to state; this is why it is important to
research all of the requirements for different situations. I find it interesting that there is an age
requirement to get married, but not a requirement to take a compatibility test. I think that even if there
wasn t a compatibility test that couples should have to be asked simple questions to see how well the
couple knows one another. It would be beneficial to have couples explain how long they have been
dating or engaged how well they know their partner, and what they understand about marriage. One of
the down falls of being able to get married so easily is that it doesn t pressure the couple to really think
about what they want as a couple and how they will adjust to married life. It can be a dramatic change
for some people because they may never have had to be so responsible for so many things. It would be
an advantage for people to understand what makes a stable marriage and what the

Almelund Analysis
Post war Years in Almelund When John returned home after serving in the military, his parents,
adhering to temporal and ethnic traditions, moved off the farm and left its operation to their eldest son.
Subsequent to reluctantly accepting the responsibility of working the land, John sought out
opportunities to enhance his life, both vocationally and socially, beyond the confines of the farm.
Fortunately, John s younger brother, Oscar, a single adult, remained behind to ably assist with the
work, which of course permitted John flexibility in choice of activities. In the winter, when the
workload on the farm slackened, John hired out his services to the owner of a saw mill. Occasionally,
he cut down trees to supply the mill and at other times he worked in the mill. In preparation for
another vocational venture, John attended school in Austin, Minnesota for training to run a steam
engine and threshing machine. Even with his limited formal education, John excelled in his
mathematical studies. After his training and throughout most of the 1920s, John ran a threshing rig and

Book 15 Of The Iliad Essay
In the novel The Iliad, written by Homer, a variety of themes can be interpreted from the text. Book 15
of The Iliad contains a scene that involves Achilles risking his best friends life simply because he
incapable of letting go. Earlier, in book 6, Prince Paris experiences a moment of courage and
challenges King Menelaus over the hand of a woman named Helen. Again, Paris is caught in a violent
scene fighting to protect his self pride. In a period of cowardice Paris brother Hector discovers him
hiding from battle, and attacks his ego, forcing him to fight once again. Some may say The Iliad is
about honor, importance of war, or revenge, but one message that stands above the rest is the hunger
for superiority.
During book 16 of The Iliad the Achaeans are pushed dangerously close to the coast by the Trojan
army. It was at this time that Patroclus seeks the aid of his dear friend Achilles. Patroclus explains to
Achilles the carnage that surrounds him and begs his comrade to rejoin the fight. Achilles, still sore
over his disagreement with Agamemnon, refuses to fight. As a compromise Achilles offers his armor
to Patroclus ensuring his safety: Up now, Zeus born Patroclus, master of horsemen. Lo, I see by the
ships the rush of consuming fire. Let it not be that they take the ships and there be no more escaping!
Do on my armour with all haste, and I will gather the host (Book 16). This decision brings Patroclus to
his eminent doom on the battlefield. It s clear to see that

Banksy was born in 1974 and grew up in Bristol, England. Manco also wrote that Banksy trained as a
butcher but became involved in the Bristol underground scene during the late 1980s aerosol boom.
The scene involved collaborations with musicians and artists. Banksy himself has said that his work
was inspired by graffiti artist Robert Del Naja, also known as 3D and a founding member of the band
Massive Attack. Art critics and observers have compared Banksy s work to Blek le Rat, whose real
name is Xavier Prou and who is known as the father of stencil graffiti.

Should Anabolic Steroids Be Banned
Athletes are always looking for an edge on their competition, some choose to go as far as to use
anabolic steroids to modify their genetics. Anabolic steroids are used by athletes to improve physical
performance, as the synthetic hormone resembles testosterone and promotes muscle growth. These
substances are a part of the banned substances list, and are outlawed by all professional sports
organizations. But is it time to lift this ban? If steroids were widely accepted, professional sports

Much of the time steroids can be a dangerous business, as additives are put in to make the steroids
discreet in the body. According to professor, Julian Savulescu at the University of Oxford, Because
doping is illegal, the pressure is to make performance enhancers undetectable, rather than safe.
Performance enhancers are produced or bought on the black market and administered in a clandestine,
uncontrolled way with no monitoring of the athlete s health. Allowing the use of performance
enhancers would make sport safer as there would be less pressure on athletes to take unsafe enhancers
and a pressure to develop new safe performance enhancers and to make existing enhancers more
effective at safe dosages... . By legalizing this performance enhancer, it would allow for big
pharmaceutical companies to distribute safely to athletes. No longer would athletes have to take
dangerously high doses, because these companies could make an incremental amount of the drug very
potent. This is one the biggest reasons why steroids remain illegal, is because they are seen as
dangerous. But contrary to popular belief, the legalization of steroids would make them more safe.
The legalization of steroids is needed to further professional sports. Many benefits can be had from
this rule change. It will bring excitement back to the fans and bring in more income for sports teams.
Historic records will seem attainable and will bring new fans to sports. It will allow for dreams of hard
working people to become a reality. Genetics would no longer be a hindrance. It will also make
steroids safer. So that athletes don t need to risk their health to become the best. If we see steroids

Essay Joseph Stalin
Joseph Stalin
Joseph Stalin was one of the biggest mass murderers of the twentieth century. From the purges in the
Red Army to forced relocations, Stalin had the blood of millions on his hands. This essay is not going

into his own hands. In 1925 Stalin made a turn to the right, got rid of his two companions and
established a coalition with moderate leaders Burkharin, Rykov, and Tomsky, which lasted until 1928,
when collectivization of agriculture and the forced industrialization came about.
Stalin now followed a simple pattern, he simply systematically replaced all those who were not his
absolute followers. By 1930 his rule was absolute. Stalin was now free to go ahead and pursue his
plans to industrialize and arm the Soviet Union. The only other obstacle in his path was the army
leadership. Stalin viewed the army as a threat to his power and took steps to remove that threat. He
organized all of his followers to delve into the lives of the military leadership and find out if they were
traitors. Many of Stalin s followers used this as a way of getting back at old rivals and enemies. All
kinds of false evidence was manufactured. Stalin took all of this at face value and a great number of
the army leadership was either killed or exiled. There were also several show trials put on to
demonstrate to the Soviet people that all of the killing was being done for a reason and that there
really were conspirators and spies among them. Several accused openly confessed to active
membership of a plot to murder the Soviet leadership. With the Army purges done, Stalin

Moral Absolutism And Moral Relativism
Moral Relativism is classified under any positions concerning the differences in moral judgments
between people and the culture. Moral relativism is the position that ethical or moral propositions

gothic. The utilization of dark, the dimness of some of his illustrations, the overwhelming make up,
the whiteness of the skins, beasts and other spooky animals review Gothic writing and works of art
yet, in addition, German Expressionism. The topic of death is ubiquitous in Burton s specialty
regularly joined with verse and ridicule. The shocking end up noticeably funny and beautiful. He
discovers motivation in the creators he adores like Edgar Allan Poe and Roald Dahl. He appreciates
them for the unpredictability of their stories and the many sided quality of their universes a long way
from being recently highly contrasting. They are both entertaining and dull and near Burton s own
particular style.
A world brimming with logical inconsistencies, both dull and light, startling and inviting, merciless
and delicate. A world where obscurity lives together with splendid hues, where strange looking
individuals and creatures are overcome and liberal and where the terrible ends up plainly wonderful.
Tim Burton has his own style that remaining parts incomparable and his lavishness has turned out to
be to a great degree famous. His world is such a

Isaac s Storm Book Report
You wake up this morning get out bed trying to decide what to wear today. You check the weather app
on your phone and see that it will be sunny and warm outside with zero chance of rain. You throw on
your flip flops and shorts and head outside to begin your day. Weather can be quite predictable in this
day and age. High tech technology and decades of weather knowledge have allowed us to predict the
weather with great accuracy, but it was not always this way. Isaac Cline, a meteorologist for the U.S.
Weather Bureau failed to understand what was happening in Galveston before it was too late. On
September 8, 1900, no one was ready for what was about to happen to this prosperous port city. A
monster hurricane swept in and destroyed the city killing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Wanting to maintain the prominent presence of weather forecasting, the Bureau took its orders from
the chief Willis L. Moore. Moore wanted the meteorologists to refrain from stirring up a public scare
in the event of a hurricane unless they were given permission to do so. Moore s arrogance became
known when they received a warning of a hurricane from Cuba. Cuba at the time was becoming quite
knowledgeable of hurricanes. Moore felt as they were no match for the technologically advanced
Weather Bureau so he halted telegraphs during the peak of hurricane season. Instead of listening to the
Cuban warnings and sounding the alarm, the Weather Bureau chose to remain silent. Isaac noticed
something was amiss when he noticed the swells of the ocean. Sadly by then it was too

Alice Gilbert Monologue
A few minutes passed by until Alice was able to speak and let me lead he back to the bedroom. We sat
on the end of the bed until 6:30 am while Alice explained to me that it was Mrs. Gilbert on the phone,
a co worker at the Elementary School, and the wife of Mr. Gilbert the town s Sherriff. She told Alice
that her student Janie Augustine went missing on her way home from school that day. And that a few
hours before a camper found her dead in the Red furrow woods, 17 miles away from the Elementary
School. And when Alice asked Mrs. Gilbert how Janie died. Mrs. Gilbert choked on her words as she
said Janie was murder. She bled out after being hit with an ax in the stomach.
I asked more questions I swear, but she said she couldn t say anymore, that she shouldn t have told me
anything Alice cried. I tried my best to come up with something to say to her. I ve never been in a
situation like this. I just let her cry into her knees again. I walked over to the kitchen and brewed her
some tea to help her get back to sleep, but by the time I got back into the room she was already fast
asleep, tears still on her cheek. The dog was curled up in the bend of her knees. I set the tea on the
nightstand, wiped away her tear and got into bed myself. I last little bit has been so hectic, trying to

beach. A whole bunch of dressy reporters with bright pan suits and round yellow glasses surrounded
the building. I managed to push my way through the crowd. I got some nasty glares, but I finally got

My New School
The first day at my new school. I should be ecstatic, but I m not. I m anxious, moving to Marysville in
the middle of spring break. What if I don t fit in? I didn t really fit in at Cardington. Everyone was all
about hunting and softball and I just wasn t. But Marysville isn t some hick village, this place is
bigger. Meaning a larger variety of people. I step onto the vacant bus and look around, confused faces
look back. The bus driver turned You three girls must be our new students, the old man acknowledged.
Please, take a seat in the back. As Tara, Taylor and myself made our ways to the back of the bus all
eyes lingered with us. After Tara and I were dropped off at Bunsold Taylor made her way to the high
school. I felt a pang of regret as we walked into the school. I should have stayed home today. Tara and
I walk side by side to the main office. The secretary escorted us to the guidance office where a woman
with a stern, hard face sat in a bland room. She greets us polity, asks us to sit down, and overlooks our
schedules. As we awkwardly sit in dead silence two girls walk in the room. These are your link
students girls, the consoler states dully. She points her boney finger toward a plain girl with brown
hair and blue eyes This is Taylor, your link student, Ashley. She then turns her finger on a girl with
blonde hair and a choir sweatshirt. This is Caroline, Tara s link student. The two girls smiled and
waved awkwardly as did we. I hope you four will become

Bipolar Disorder ( Disorder )
Bipolar disorder, manic episode, is represented by persistently elevated or irritable mood and
abnormal and persistent increase of goal directed activity or energy that lasts more than a week (DSM
5). Most of the time, the client presents with inflated self esteem and grandiosity (DSM 5). In addition,
only three hours of sleep may be enough for the patient to feel rested because he/she has a drecreased
need for sleep (Tracy, 2012). Usually, the person presents with a pressure to talk without taking any
break and is seen more talkative than he/she frequently is (DSM 5). Another symptom presented in the

Even though most of the patients fully return to a functional level between the crises, approximately
30% of them report having severe difficulties in their work role function (Goodwin Jamison, 2007).
When the patient has acute mania, Haloperidol is the most used medication for its properties of rapid
sedation (Goodwin Jamison, 2007). Another medication that is used is IM olanzapine to calm acute
manic agitation (Goodwin Jamison, 2007). When the patient has extreme hyperactivity, typical
antipsychotics are used to relieve symtoms of dehydration and cardiovascular stress (Goodwin
Jamison, 2007). Lithium is a very common medication given to a patient with manic episodes
(Goodwin Jamison, 2007). One important aspect to take into account with Lithium is that the dose
should be administered downward as the mania starts to diminish to keep the blood level in a
reasonable range (Goodwin Jamison, 2007). Bipolar disorser can be severe and long term, or it can be
mild with frequent episodes (Simon, 2013). Patients with bipolar disorder frequently have higher rates
of death from suicides, heart problems than the rest of the population (Simon, 2013). On the other
hand, a patient that receives treatment has a greater chance of survival (Simon, 2013). Based on the
possible causes of bipolar disorders, which are thought to be a biological disorder

I Am Requesting A Withdrawal From A Second Course
The main reason I am requesting a withdrawal from a fourth course is due to strong generalized
anxiety and its disruptive effect on my ability to function as a student. My issues with academic
anxiety have been an ongoing problem in my college career. I started seeing counselors as a student in
Washington University in St. Louis during the spring 2013 semester and have been continually
receiving intervention for my diagnosis since then. Due to anxiety and psychological difficulties, the
university granted my medical withdrawal for the next semester so I could get a professional diagnosis
of my anxiety.
In order to have more support, I moved back to Jacksonville to stay with my parents and received a
professional psychological evaluation on May 2013 which confirmed that I struggled with high levels
of generalized anxiety, as seen by the provided documentation. Some early life events have caused
unpleasant subconscious feelings of fear and worry especially in regards to school. Two of my three
lower level course withdrawals here at UNF were taken during this medical withdrawal period in fall
2013 as a transient student. I was trying to manage my anxiety just recently having discovered my
diagnoses and unfortunately had to withdraw from both Algebra Based Physics and Calculus III. I was
listed as a transient student and slated to return to my previous institution, so I sadly did not report the
reasons for my withdrawal being paralyzing anxiety. I have been attending University

Terrorism Between Terrorism And Terrorism
Question ‐ What trends are evident in terrorism over the past 5 years? How have these trends impacted
on the ways in which counter terrorism has responded in the Australian context?
Introduction
Terrorism poses a serious security challenge to the Australia and globally as it prevalence has
increased over a decade although less attacks occur in the Western nations. The purpose of this
assignment is to examine what trends and terrorist tactics are evident internationally over the past 5
years and how Australia responded to these trends.
Definition
To have an understanding of the trends in international terrorism, it is essential to have an
understanding of the meaning of the term terrorism. There are hundreds of proposed definitions of
terrorism and researchers, experts, security professionals, NGOs, etc have adopted their own
definition.
In covering the trends and responses, the assignment also examines the debate over a definition of
terrorism that distinguishes acts of terrorism from criminal acts. One of the definitions that the
international communities had agreed when violence is used for political objectives is as follows;
Terrorism is the deliberate use of violence aimed against civilians in order to achieve political goals
(nationalistic, socioeconomic, ideological, religious, etc.) . It is important to note that this framework
is not for regular criminal activity, which warrants the application of criminal legal norms (Boaz
Ganor, pp 11 42, 27 May 2009).

Benefit Of Listening To Music
Ever since I began high school, music has been an important part of my life. Every day, on the way to
and from school, I could be seen on the bus relaxing and listening to music. At first, I listened to music
because it seemed like the most convenient way for me to pass time and stay entertained on my ride.
However, as I got older and became more accustomed to my schedule, what I realized was that
listening to music every day had a larger effect on my mental health then I thought. I realized that for
me, listening to music had a meditative effect, and when I would not listen to my music, I would feel
more stressed out and anxious then when I did. Therefore, I was not one bit surprised when I learned
of numerous studies that have proven that listening to music every day is not only a leisure activity,
but has serious effects on the brain that anyone could benefit from. I was able to have a first hand
experience of benefiting from music as a meditative tool, and hope that other students are able to
realize that they should not just be listening to music for leisure, but should be making listening to
music a part of their daily schedule because of the health benefits it has. One benefit of listening to
music on a daily basis as a form of meditation is that music has been proven to reduce stress. This is
incredibly value for college students, as according to the American College Health Association
(ACHA) 2017 National College Health Assessment survey, 33.7% of college students

Ethical Issues in the Insider Essay
Ethical Issues in The Insider
The Insider is a 1999 movie based on real life events that happened within an unaired 1994 episode of
60 minutes on CBS. Dr. Jeffrey Wigand, played by Russell Crowe, was the Vice President of Research
and Development for the Brown and Williamson Tobacco Corporation and was not satisfied with the
way that the third largest tobacco company was going. Wigand was then fired when he began to voice
his personal opinion about how he did not agree with how the company was adding various chemicals
to make cigarettes even more addictive then they already are. Lowell Bergman, played by Al Pacino,
was the producer for 60 Minutes and comes into play when he sees how Wigand has a story to share
with the world. Wigand ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The second ethical dilemma is Wigand s decision to tell his story about the Brown and Williamson
Tobacco Corporation. The movie was made to show his struggle with how hard it was for Wigand to
make this decision. He could not keep this kind of information from the public, especially after
working with healthcare companies before being employed by Brown and Williamson. He felt
personally obliged to tell this story because it could potentially save the lives of countless people.
After he decided to do the interview, even knowing the criticism he would receive, the tobacco
company then retaliated with campaigns about how awful of a person Wigand was, which then led his
wife to divorce him. Wigand made the right decision, and many reasonable people would have done
the same thing. There were obviously others who knew about the same information but were too
scared of the consequences that Wigand unfortunately had to endure. The CBS interview, in the end,
was aired to the public.
The third ethical dilemma within the movie is CBS decision to edit the episode Bergman made to not
contain the Wigand interview. This decision was shown to cause many disagreements, and it was
ultimately made to not include the interview due to the then current merging of CBS and
Westinghouse. Even though 60 Minutes was a show specifically made for the public to show
information that people would not normally know about, CBS also

  • 2. Ancient Greece And Ancient Egypt Essay Ancient Greece and Ancient Egypt were both extremely prevalent societies between the times of 750 BCE and 450 BCE. For Greece, this includes a majority of what was considered the Archaic Age. During this time Greece was divided into many separate cities that each had their own distinct personality. For example, Spartans believed it was deeds, not words, that counted and they organized their whole style of life around the demands of battle readiness. On the other hand, you have a city like Athens that was considered the mother of democracy and consisted of a culture focused on wisdom, freedom, and equality. During the start of this time period in Egypt, the area falls under Kushite rule. Regardless of being under new rule, the ancient Egyptian culture and religion persisted because the people of Kush incorporated the two cultures to strengthen the society. In fact, rulers and elites wore Egyptian clothing, followed Egyptian burial practices, and, most importantly, professed devotion to Egyptian gods. Both Greece and Egypt were very impacted by their religions and are still studied to this day as mythology. Both of their religions were based around the idea of polytheism and often their many gods would serve as an explanation to the unknown of the world. They would often embody forces of nature and explain things like the seasons, the rising and setting of the sun, and even naturally occurring disasters. As a result of trying to explain so many things, there are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Idiom In The Great Gatsby The old saying, two steps forward, one step back originates from a Chinese anecdote, illustrating a frog trying to climb out of a well. Every two steps the frog makes up the wall of the well, he falls back another, essentially making the process exhausting and seemingly worthless. However, the frog eventually reaches the top and recognizes that his hard work has paid off. The strenuous process this idiom captures reflects the realities of the American Dream during the 1920s: a time where people were encouraged to become successful regardless of their attributes. Although these beliefs promised beauty and prosperity for all, its idealistic nature compelled individuals to fall short of these standards. F. Scott Fitzgerald, an American novelist ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, the contrast between the very wealthy upper class and the suffering lower class reveals this progress is an illusion. F. Scott Fitzgerald uses his novel to expose the flaws in the idealistic American Dream and in doing so, Fitzgerald foreshadows the destructive events following the 1920s. The eyes of T.J. Eckleburg in the Valley of Ashes are illustrated as seeing the realities of America during the twenties, alluding to the Great Depression as a result of the wealthy suppressing the poor. However, although Fitzgerald is able to understand this reality, [he] knows that there is greatness to our country and our idealism, (Hearne). He encourages individuals to continuously run faster, stretch our arms farther, demonstrating advancement is necessary and retrogression is normal (Chapter 9). This gradual process demonstrates the concept of taking two steps forward and one step back eventually humanity will reach their goal in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Emotions And The Human Race There are many answers to why emotions are important. Emotions serve several purposes. Emotions play a vital role in how we think and behave. Emotions influence our actions, our outlook, and our personal characteristics. Emotions help us grow and survive. Emotions help us make decisions. Emotions help people understand one another. The list goes on and on because emotions are key to the existence of the human race. Without emotions the human race would be unable to function physically or mentally. According to the evolutionary approach to emotions, emotions are very important. They are the key to animal and human survival. Hardwired emotions are associated with the nervous system. It s detection of stimuli and recognition of stimuli helps to decide what to do and then do it. Without this we would not be able to respond to emotional encounters. For example, we need the stimulus, to thalamus, to emotion and response to be able to react when we see a man with a gun. Without this brain and body connection to emotions, you wouldn t be able to respond to threatening situations, decreasing your chances of survival. The biological approach to emotions is important because it connects the brain to the body in order to help further the survival of a species through interpretation of a situation and reacting to it. The cognitive approach to emotions explains how people s emotions depend on their appraisal of an occurrence. Appraisal of a situation can determine the relevance of a situation. There are two types of appraisal, primary and secondary appraisal. They can help determine whether a situation is beneficial to someone and if so how they might benefit from the situation or if a situation is dangerous and if so how to cope. Appraisals are quick. The cognitive part of this is the emotion that occurs from the situation. For example, when you feel something, rather than just reacting quickly, reflecting on what appraisal you made leads you to that feeling. If you change the appraisal, you can change how you feel. The feeling attached to that appraisal determines ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Jig and the Stream of Life in Hemingway’s “Hills Like... I see many people as I wander through the streets, yet I can only hear silence. I see couples getting into a restaurant, order, check their smartphones, eat, and I wonder why they do not look up, face each other and genuinely communicate. What I perceive, are men and women living not with, but next to each other. This is exactly what I imagined when I read Hemingway s Hills Like White Elephants . A couple waiting to catch a train and as they sit and drink some beers, they start talking about Jig s pregnancy and the option of abortion. However, all I can hear is silence because they simply do not speak the same language. They are both living in different worlds filled with divergent ideologies and opinions. Furthermore, he is dominant, a know all and a manipulator to the bone. He takes care of the luggage, speaks Spanish and orders the drinks, not Jig. When sitting in the bar drinking some beers, she looks off at the lines of hills and remarks: They look like white elephants, she said. I ve never seen one, the man drank his beer. (251). I think Jig is referring to a concept, using figurative language for a white elephant is, in fact, an idiom for a rare thing of which the cost exceeds its value. In this perspective, it is an intertextual reference to the yet unborn baby. For the practical American, the baby is just a costly thing, but Jig does not share his view. She values life and nature. In contrast, her lover is talking about a real white, albino elephant. He cannot comprehend what Jig is referring to. When Jig utters her disappointment about the poor taste of the Anis del Toro, they have a quarrel that ends with him saying that they should try and have a fine time (252). Yet the way he puts it sounds more like a demand, an imposition. As the discussion goes on whether or not to abort the child, the American even appears to know that Jig wouldn t mind to do it. A matter that is clearly linked to women, nonetheless, he knows: it s all perfectly natural (253). When, in fact, you could question ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In my own opinion, I think that a majority of people take marriage for granted. It is sad to say that divorce will always be an option as soon as a couple gets married. It is important to understand the meaning marriage and how it will change life. If more people were focused on making a marriage work, then divorce rates may lower. It is also important to understand that a marriage is hard work and has the ability to be emotionally tiring at times. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the state of Missouri, it is actually very easy to get hitched as some may call it. According to U.S Marriage Laws, the legal age to get married is 18. Whomever is getting married must apply for a marriage license which permits people to actually get married. The permit will expire 30 days after receiving one. People wanting to get married need to research all of the requirements for getting married, even though there are few. Laws may vary from state to state; this is why it is important to research all of the requirements for different situations. I find it interesting that there is an age requirement to get married, but not a requirement to take a compatibility test. I think that even if there wasn t a compatibility test that couples should have to be asked simple questions to see how well the couple knows one another. It would be beneficial to have couples explain how long they have been dating or engaged how well they know their partner, and what they understand about marriage. One of the down falls of being able to get married so easily is that it doesn t pressure the couple to really think about what they want as a couple and how they will adjust to married life. It can be a dramatic change for some people because they may never have had to be so responsible for so many things. It would be an advantage for people to understand what makes a stable marriage and what the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Almelund Analysis Post war Years in Almelund When John returned home after serving in the military, his parents, adhering to temporal and ethnic traditions, moved off the farm and left its operation to their eldest son. Subsequent to reluctantly accepting the responsibility of working the land, John sought out opportunities to enhance his life, both vocationally and socially, beyond the confines of the farm. Fortunately, John s younger brother, Oscar, a single adult, remained behind to ably assist with the work, which of course permitted John flexibility in choice of activities. In the winter, when the workload on the farm slackened, John hired out his services to the owner of a saw mill. Occasionally, he cut down trees to supply the mill and at other times he worked in the mill. In preparation for another vocational venture, John attended school in Austin, Minnesota for training to run a steam engine and threshing machine. Even with his limited formal education, John excelled in his mathematical studies. After his training and throughout most of the 1920s, John ran a threshing rig and supervised a threshing crew ... • 12. Book 15 Of The Iliad Essay In the novel The Iliad, written by Homer, a variety of themes can be interpreted from the text. Book 15 of The Iliad contains a scene that involves Achilles risking his best friends life simply because he incapable of letting go. Earlier, in book 6, Prince Paris experiences a moment of courage and challenges King Menelaus over the hand of a woman named Helen. Again, Paris is caught in a violent scene fighting to protect his self pride. In a period of cowardice Paris brother Hector discovers him hiding from battle, and attacks his ego, forcing him to fight once again. Some may say The Iliad is about honor, importance of war, or revenge, but one message that stands above the rest is the hunger for superiority. During book 16 of The Iliad the Achaeans are pushed dangerously close to the coast by the Trojan army. It was at this time that Patroclus seeks the aid of his dear friend Achilles. Patroclus explains to Achilles the carnage that surrounds him and begs his comrade to rejoin the fight. Achilles, still sore over his disagreement with Agamemnon, refuses to fight. As a compromise Achilles offers his armor to Patroclus ensuring his safety: Up now, Zeus born Patroclus, master of horsemen. Lo, I see by the ships the rush of consuming fire. Let it not be that they take the ships and there be no more escaping! Do on my armour with all haste, and I will gather the host (Book 16).
