The Fraser Island in Australia
Fraser Island is a popular tourist attraction in Australian just 300km north of Brisbane and only 15 km
of the coast of Hervey Bay.
Fraser Island is the largest sand island in the world and is world heritage listed.
The island is around 120km long and cover a significant area of 1,840km2
Fraser Island is known for its spectacular long white beaches, sand cliffs, rain forests and a number of
freshwater lakes that are crystal clear.
The indigenous people of Fraser Island are the Butchulla people or their traditional name K gari.
However due to the European settlement many of the traditions and the way of life the aboriginals live
were destroyed either intentionally or through plain ignorance.
The Butchulla people were governed by a Council of Elders and of course the generations and
generations of traditions that have been passed down. The council included a number of mature men,
but only the elders had voting rights. The council of elders were responsible for allowing visitors into
their tribal lands, they gave them permission to enter and told them when they had to leave. The
Council made sure all rules (social and environmental) were met and was responsible for the totem
system.
The totem system was when each member of the tribe was given a totem that represented a plant or
animal. You were not allowed to eat, harm or hunt your totem or your family s totem. The only
exception was during war, unique ceremonies or when you crossed into non tribal lands. The totem

How Has The American Dream Changed Over Time
The American dream, the land of the free and the home of the brave. Our founding fathers set ideas of
democracy, rights of liberty and opportunity. Over generations of men and women, the American
dream has changed as our society has progressed over time. The dream varies from the beginning

Absolute Male Authority In The Duchess Of Malfi
The Duchess of Malfi not only challenges the concept of absolute male authority by having a female
main character who has a will of her own and disobeys this authority, but it also illuminates the
problem of the mentality of the conventional male who unquestioningly accepts the doctrines of the
patriarchal system. This system is created to ensure that males are imbued with nearly limitless power,
especially over women. In her book Male Subjectivity at the Margins, Kaja Silverman quotes Gayle
Rubin, who claims that women though women are seen as object to be exchanged, in the way that
people would exchange gifts. Rubin goes on to note that If women are gifts, then it is men who are the
exchange partners, and it is the partners, not the presents, upon whom reciprocal exchange confers its
quasi mystical power of social linkage (36). The concept that men possess a quasi mystical power
simply because they are men, is part of what Silverman calls the dominant fiction that is the
patriarchal structure. It could be said that the idea that men possess this inherent and absolute power
leads to a God complex where men who are higher up in the social structure, and at times men who
are not, feel that their authority is so absolute that any actions that they do not approve ... Show more

According to his article, The God Complex: The Belief that One is God, and The Resulting Character
Traits, Ernest Jones breaks down the key characteristics of a person who embodies the God complex.
Before he goes into his analysis, Jones notes that: Such a megalomaniac phantasy would be barely
comprehensible did we not know how closely the ideas of God and Father are associated, so much so
that, from a purely psychological point of view, the former idea may be regarded as a magnified,
idealized, and projected form of the latter.

The Bolshevik Revolution of October 1917-Essay Review
In 1917, in the midst of the Great War, Russia faced one of the biggest political shifts that the Tsarist
ruled country had ever known the Bolshevik Revolution. There are two significant time frames
associated with the Bolshevik Revolution. In the February revolution Tsar Nicholas II abdicated his
throne and a Provisional Government took control. In the October revolution the Bolsheviks took
power by overthrowing the Provisional Government. How did the October revolution become a
reality? What factors facilitated the Bolshevik Revolution of October 1917? Two important factors
were the July event at Taurida Palace, and the Kornilov Affair. Richard Pipes describes in detail how
Lenin influenced the Bolshevik party throughout the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After the July event, Lvov s resignation, Kerensky took control as the new Prime Minister.
Richard Pipes gives a detailed account of the events that led up to the July event and the Bolsheviks
preparedness. The Bolsheviks were opportunists and used propaganda to influence and agitate, gives
credit to their political strategy. The Bolsheviks saw an opportunity and used it. They also understood
that their timing had to be flawless. They did not want to quell the frenzy they had created among the
mutineers; however, a premature large scale uprising would give the Provisional Government an
excuse to crush them. Although the July event was a setback for the Bolsheviks, it did create a
growing dissatisfaction among the soldiers. Many had no more will to fight, and lost their faith in the
government. This would prove crucial when Kerensky would, with failed attempts, call on them to
defend the Winter Palace against insurgents in the October Revolution.
An important factor that facilitated the Bolshevik Revolution was the Kornilov Affair. Pipes and
Fitzpatrick disagree in that Fitzpatrick refers to the Kornilov Affair as a coup based on national
interest. Pipes refers to the Kornilov Affair as a coup in response to deception. Fitzpatrick writes the
coup attempt by Kornilov was of his own design and without provocation. Pipes however, establishes
the Kornilov Affair was a result of Kerensky s misperceptions. Kerensky felt that as head

Seasonal Affective Disorder
Alaskans experiences on average about five hours of sunlight during the winter months, sometimes
living in Alaska during the winter can take its toll on a person. The year 1984 was when Seasonal
Affective Disorder first became known in a research paper at the National Institute of Mental Health
in Bethesda, Maryland. Seasonal Affective Disorder mainly affects people in the winter season, but
can also affect people during the summer seasons. Seasonal Affective Disorder is best understood as a
form of depression that affects people in the winter and, less commonly, in the summer. This paper

McMahon , et al, 2014). Another factor that can play into S.A.D. is melatonin, which helps with sleep
and wake cycles. Rosenthal, et al, notes how the pineal gland, the gland that produces melatonin, will
react to dark surroundings with drowsiness that can lead people to being lethargic (as cited in Melrose,
2015). When melatonin increases and serotonin decreases, the offset of the proteins can cause
circadian rhythms to be disrupted, which is the bodies 24 hour clock. Researcher Melrose writes that

beat and timed differently with day lengths, for example feeling tired in the middle of the day while
being wide awake or feeling wide awake when it would normally be time to sleep.
Treatments that follow with the diagnose of Seasonal Affective Disorder are antidepressant
medications, light therapy, vitamin D and counseling. Cheung, et al, (as cited in Melrose, 2015)
reports their findings with the antidepressant, fluoxetine and discovered that the medicine was just as
effective as light therapy. Light therapy is typically used in the mornings to help with circadian

Designing A Graphic Organizer That May Provide An Overview...
In researching and finding information to develop a graphic organizer that could provide an overview
of various types of assessments was insightful. Reading assessments are often mandated by a school
district or state to determine where student are academically. In the case of reading test, the data
received is supposed to give the assessor and idea of defects and growth of the reader. But is the
information received from just one assessment tool giving an accurate and complete picture of reading
skills. Assessments may determine if a student is reading with fluency, can comprehend what they
have read, are able to decode words, and so on. Because of the variety of assessments it was difficult
to narrow the field and select just five. Familiarity with the assessments assisted in my selection. The
final five selected were; 1. Collection Portfolio Assessment, 2.Miscue Analysis, 3.Running Record, 4.
Criterion Referenced Tests and 5. Each tool assesses reading in a variety of ways. The data they
provide can determine the direction of current and future reading instruction. In researching portfolio I
learned that there were various format and purposes. Portfolios can be the process oriented or product
oriented. The formats I investigated were collection, display and teacher/student portfolios. I selected
Collection Portfolio to compare with the other assessments tools. Again I selected this format because
I was familiar with it. Even with that I learned that there was

Summary Of The Brief Wondrous Life Of Oscar Wao
In The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao by Junot Diaz the author uses the trick of different stories to
sew together a series of experiences to create the full story of Oscar s life. There are many important
pieces in the book that help create an understanding of how Oscar came to be Oscar. One example is
the experiences of his family members while they lived in Santo Domingo, such as La Inca deciding
to go find Beli and also when Beli fell in love with the Gangster. The influence of the sci fi world has
also had a massive effect on Oscar, since he had no real examples of a healthy relationship he was
under the impression that all relationships had to be like the one s he saw in movies. Overall the
influence of his mother s past and the influence ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A turning point in Oscars future was when La Inca went to find Beli and save her from the family who
locked her in a chicken coop. That was incredibly important because if La Inca hadn t gone and got
Beli then Beli wouldn t have had to flee to America and Oscar wouldn t have been born at all. Diaz
chose specific points in the book to tell the story of Beli while also telling the story of Oscar to show
how Beli s life influenced Oscar. The use of Yunior as a narrator in this story is unique but it provides
the reader with a bird s eye view of Beli s past and lets the reader see how it changed Oscar. Yunior s
role shows the reader stories of people s past that we wouldn t otherwise have known if Yunior or
Oscar had told the story from a first person point of view. Another example of a story that would have
been unknown to the reader is when Beli fell in love with the Gangster, and it eventually led to her
having to leave Santo Domingo to go to America where she would be safe. If she had not fell for the
gangster then she most likely wouldn t have left and wouldn t have met Oscar s father in New York. If
she hadn t left then Oscar would have grown up in Santo Domingo rather than New Jersey, and Oscar
s worldview would have changed drastically. Diaz introduced the story of Beli growing up in Santo
Domingo to show the difference between growing up there versus Paterson. The people that came
before Oscar changed many aspects of his life and where he grew

Introduction The word globalisation is used frequently in business and media. It is defined as the
global strategy of the integration of worldwide operations and the development of standardised
products and marketing approaches (Deresky, 2006) Hill recognised two facets of business that have
emerged in globalised operations in 2014: Globalisation of Markets: where the supply of goods or
services are carried out in markets other than the home nation for instance, South Korean car
manufacturer Kia, selling in the U.K. market. Globalisation of Production: where materials are
sourced (or assembled) outside the home market for example, US aircraft manufacturer Boeing with a

The following essay will discuss three topics within globalisation, namely the implications of the
impasse in the Doha round of World Trade Organisation negotiations, the motives for bilateral
negotiations in the Trans Pacific Partnership (TPP) and the validity of criticisms of the EU US
Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP), concluding with a summary of findings. Doha
Negotiations The World Trade Organisation (WTO) exists to implement trade rules amongst the
nations (Robbins Coulter, 2009). Agreements are negotiated by member nations in rounds one being
the gathering in Doha which commenced in 2001. Subjects discussed included eliminating agricultural
export subsidies, reducing export barriers to developing countries, facilitating trade, combatting
dumping practices along with other topics (WTO, 2016). Negotiations were abandoned at the end of
2015 after having failed to reach agreement on many topics, risking rendering the WTO irrelevant
(Donnan, 2015). The implications of such protracted negotiations, described by The Economist in
2008 as watching paint that never dries , threatened the credibility of the WTO, particularly in the
relation to the reduction of agricultural subsidies and tariffs. These are estimated at 40% or $300
billion per annum (Hill, 2014), huge barriers for developing nations to overcome to enter markets of
developed nations. This risks the perception of the talks

The Illusion Of Perception In Heartbeat By Julian Beever
Is what we see always the reality of everything? We tend to think that what see is true, but sometimes
our perceptions of things is not reality. Many magic tricks and optical illusions can trick our brain into
seeing something that s not real. Having our eyes deceiving us multiple times show that how we
perceive things aren t always accurate. First of all, looking at things from a certain perspective can
change the way something looks. For example, Julian Beever, a chalk artist, who draws pavement art
on the streets uses a certain technique in his work. In the book, it states, When seen from one special
angle, these images come together to create the illusion that his anamorphic drawings are truly three
dimensional. Viewed this way, his drawings seem to come to life (Chalk Art 89). In other words, his
drawings can look three dimensional from a certain angle, but looking at it from the side shows that it
s actually flat. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Who Was Ham Research Paper
Who Was Ham? Ham is the name of a person also two places in the Old Testament. According to the
Table of Nations in the Bible Book of Genesis, Ham, was the son of Noah. Japheth also Shem were
Ham s siblings. He was the father of Cush, Miriam, Put, and Canaan. However, Naamah, sister of
Tubal Cain (Genesis 4:22). By Noah she emerged as a second wife to preserve Cain s posterity, and
she became the mother Ham (www.heavenawaits.wordpress.com). Despite the great Flood, Ham
along with the Noah s family was saved by entering the ark. The Lord promised Noah and his
descendants the world would never be destroyed by flood again. Markedly, the Lord made an
everlasting covenant with Noah also his descendants. The figure of Ham has been exposed to gross
abuse by numerous scholars, authors, etc. in medieval also recent times. And yet, the Hebrew Bible

Bible refers to Egypt as the land of Ham in Psalms 78:51; 105:23,27; 106:22; 1Ch 4:40. As a result,

WW1 Battle Analysis
The Germans lost 6 men killed out of the 85 who set out on the attack with 15 wounded. The Belgium
defenders lost 23 men killed and 59 wounded (Trueman, 2015). The fall of what was to have been an
unbeatable fortress caused a disaster for Belgium for the second time in a generation (Martin, 2001).
While Laughridge argues that these tactics, training, and weaponry combined with the element of
complete surprise, and were the primary reasons for the phenomenal successes that day (2006), it
should also be noted that there were key intelligence failures on the Belgian side that allowed this to
happen.
Alternate Outcome Trueman asserts, The element of surprise was key, as was the use of a method of

Had the machine gunners been able to shoot down even one or two gliders, the weakened force may
not have been able to disable the guns quickly enough to save the bridges from destruction. Similarly,
referring to the emplacement of countermeasures to prevent glider landings, McNab argues, had [the
Belgian high command] been more energetically committed to maintaining the vigor of its defences, it
might have prevented the fall of Eben Emael with nothing more than a few pieces of steel or wood
(2013, p. 72). In both cases, overcoming intelligence deficiencies could have had a dramatic impact on
the battle, which would have had far reaching implications for the long term success or failure for
Germany in the opening stages of World War II. If Fort Eben Emael had been able to hold on long
enough to destroy the bridges and for allied reinforcements to arrive, it is possible that Germany s
westward advance could have been halted by Fort Eben Emael and the Maginot Line and the Second
World War might have been prevented, or at least contained.
Conclusion

of hollow charge explosives. Implementing these new technologies with meticulous planning and
methodical training, a much smaller German force was able to defeat the strongest

Evil In Plato s The Republic
In The Republic Plato suggests that unless kings rule as philosophers or that philosophers rule as
kings, there will always be evil, which is a logical fallacy that does not take into account the core of
human nature, of which is to preserve oneself solely for the purpose of reproducing and continuing
their bloodline. Plato s take on a perfect city without evil by cause of it being ruled by a Philosopher
King is an idea that makes absolute sense on paper, but would be irrational to try to conceive in real
life. The notion that philosophy is the most important asset that a person can take advantage of is
grounded and logical and holds true as a result of many modern day beliefs being rooted in Greek
philosophy thus forming how people think and behave today, however due to the sheer number of
people on this planet, as well as accounting the selfish nature of humans in general it is illogical to
suggest that evil can be vanquished from within society. Plato even acknowledges his claim to be

Another important architectural monument, the Dome of the Rock, is not only the third
most important shrine of Islam, but also the most magnificent architectural monument of the
Middle East. It is a mosque located in Jerusalem built between 691 and 692 by Umayyad caliph
Abd al Malik. The place this mosque is built on is sacred to both, Muslims and Jews. According
to Muslims, Muhammad ascended into heaven from here and the Jews believe that Abraham
prepared to sacrifice Isaac here. Both inside and outside of the mosque holds magnificent beauty,
elegance, and color. The structure is an octagonal exterior wall placed under a golden dome. The
bright arabesque patterning that decorates the exterior of the building, not only catches the eye,
but also greatly contrasts the plain exteriors of Christian Basilicas. The surface decoration of the
interior of the Dome of the Rock has 240 metres of inscription mainly verses from the Qur an
just below the ceiling on both faces of the inner octagon. The main bulk of the interior
decoration of the Dome of the Rock, however, is the mosaic work. 2 Once inside, the rock that
the pilgrims have come to see, sits directly in the center of the structure with mosaics and
Arabic calligraphy decorating the walls surrounding.

The struggle for marriage equality in the United States began in the 1970 s. It became more prominent
in 1993 when the Hawaiian Supreme court declared that state s prohibition against marriage between
people of the same sex to be unconstitutional (Weiss, 2013). In response to this, there was significant
public outcry and opponents of marriage equality asserted that marriage could only be defined as a
union between a man and a woman. This resulted in prohibitive legislation that was enacted in 1996
known as the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) DOMA prevented the federal government from
recognizing same sex marriages (Baker, 2013). DOMA also allowed each state to refuse recognition of
same sex marriages performed in other states. Be that as it may, in the 21st century, public and
legislative support for marriage equality has grown and various national polls conducted since 2011
show that a majority of Americans support marriage equality (Live Science Staff, 2011; Newport,
2011). On May 9, 2012, Barack Obama became the first sitting U.S. president to publicly declare
support for the legalization of same sex marriage. The provision of DOMA, forbidding the federal
government from recognizing same sex marriages was struck down by the Supreme Court on June
26th of 2013. In the ensuing two years, 36 states, the District of Columbia, 24 Native American Tribal
jurisdictions and Guam had legalized same sex marriage. However up

The Blood Rushing Effect On Readers, And Dracula By Bram...
Only few stories and novels have the blood rushing effect on readers, and Dracula by Bram Stoker is
one of those novels. This novel utilizes the method of using letters and other documents in order to tell
the story. The application of the epistolary technique in the story Dracula proves to be quite effective
because it does enable the reader to foresee the happenings in the story on a closer and more personal
scale. In this novel, the man who writes the letters in Transylvania experiences a vast amount of
supernatural experiences. Within the first four chapters of Dracula, Jonathan Harker witnesses
supernatural occurrence s such as seeing flickering blue lights, how Jonathan Harker s coachman
magically made the were wolves disappear, and how he cannot see the Count Dracula s reflection in
the mirror. In the novel Dracula, Jonathan Harker tries to overlook these supernatural occurrences
because of Mr. Hawkins interest. However, this reason may not be the most realistic justification in
why Jonathan is persistent in his stay, but rather he is also aware that he is a prisoner. The novel
Dracula also has many other supernatural aspects such as the three women in Count Dracula s house,
and how Count Dracula proceeds down the walls in a lizard like manner. In the novel Dracula, it could
be argued that Jonathan Harker is not a reliable narrator because of the fact that he is the only one in
the book experiencing these occurrences and his mental state is questionable at times. The

Critical Analysis Of Walt Whitman s Song Of Myself
In Walt Whitman s Song of Myself , the poet showcases his feelings of people and himself by using
literary descriptors to convey his thoughts on these and various other subjects. In section 20, Whitman
s purpose is to showcase self assuredness regardless of what the world tries to state otherwise by
maintaining his resolute happiness in being himself. This is what sets him apart from being like the
other people in the world.
Whitman is known for being revolutionary for his use of free form verse in the nineteenth century.
This style is evident throughout Song of Myself which aids in his descriptions and devices used to get
his meaning across. His grouping of three lines per stanza for this section is common for the entirety
of Song of Myself , which has variations of three line to occasionally five line stanzas. His freedom in
his poem s style and lack of rhyme scheme allow him to fully showcase his thoughts in a new way for
this time period. An overall summary of the poem is Whitman s pondering of himself and the world in
behavior and personality to him being fully confident in himself with no existential crisis. For the first
half of section 20, Whitman s character of himself questions everything beyond the ownership of
himself. He questions the integrity of other people s identities and characters as well as ignoring social
norms involving manners and religious behavior. The declaration of a lack of manners and questioning
the church would have been scandalous to

Analysis Of Lather And Nothing Else By Hernando Tellez
Lather And Nothing Else is a short story by Hernando Tellez about a barbour that must shave a
customer s face, but he realizes that his customer is on the opposite side of a violent political conflict
that has gone wrong. When the barbour realized who the man was, he quickly knew there were only
two decisions to make in this tough situation. While shaving the customer s face, the barbour plays
through scenes and decisions in his head on whether to keep doing his job or to end this entire political
conflict by exposing his identity and killing the customer who happens to be the cause of this mass
destruction between two political parties. Throughout the story, the barbour is narrating this
experience in first person. Not only describing what thoughts went through his head but also the
conversations that went on throughout that time he spent shaving the man s face to give the reader
more description of what went on scene by scene. In paragraph one, the barbour realized who the man
was from the first glimpse he caught of him. The man s name was Captain Torres(Paragraph 5).
Although he knew who the man was, Captain Torres did not have a clue that the barbour was on the
opposite side of the political conflict, or so that is what the barbour believes. The barbour narrates and
guides the reader of what exactly went through his head on that day. When Captain Torres sits down
for his shave, he starts to talk about the conflict saying, the fellows in the troop must have just

The Main Problem with Management
During my four years at USC, my course focus has mainly been on management. Initially, I began as a
Sport and Entertainment Management major, and then transferred into the Bachelor of Arts in
Interdisciplinary Arts major. The BAIS has allowed me the flexibility to expand my interest in
management in general. My two areas of focus in the BAIS are Sport and Entertainment Management
and Business Management. Accordingly, my paper will focus on a problem in management.
My work experience and my course experiences have provided me the basis for selecting a problem in
management. Additionally, I spoke with my manager in the food industry, as well as a department
manager in a local retail store. My observation and those of the two managers all focus on the need for
changing the current work ethic, especially as it applies to the younger generation. Since I have known
this assignment was coming up, I have been thinking for some time which problem I would select as
one to take on for this assignment. It was somewhat ironical that the IDST 497 professor, Dr. Truell,
recently posted two related readings on Blackboard that will be the source of a later course
assignment. Content from those articles will be helpful in explaining how this generation is different.
These differences are reflected in many of the concerns managers today have identified.
In 1904, Max Weber coined the term work ethic in a religious sense and actually referred to the term
as the Protestant work ethic (Fine

Nanosolar Inc Case Study
Nanosolar Inc. Case Study Analysis Nanosolar is a start up company and expects to be one of the first
manufacturers to produce thin film solar panels using copper indium gallium (di)selenide (CIGS)
technology. Nanosolar is focused on selling a single type of thin film Photovoltaic (PV) module called
the Nanosolar Utility Panel . The utility panel is 50% less energy efficient than c Si modules, but
being 90% less expensive to produce. Strategic Options: (1) Continue to invest in European and Asian
markets. (2) Enter US Utilities and Commercial Market Immediately. (3) Launch an industrial scale

Nanosolar s value proposition is its lower cost per watt to purchase and install (see Case page 5).
Because thin film PVs require 43% more roof space per watt generated, it is more valuable to larger
commercial and utility customers than residential customers. Nanosolar s focus should remain on
industrial scale projects that benefit most from its lower installation costs. In order to approach
residential market, significant investment is required to establish installer relationships (eg. In the US).
Nanosolar should also focus on production efficiency (see delay of the 2007 Beck s project (Case page
6.) and hire, train sales staff (has only 1 person in the US and 1 person in Switzerland). Worldwide
Solar Market and Incentives By having its final assembly in Germany, Nanosolar is geographically
positioned to meet the needs of developing countries such as India and China while distributing its
panels throughout Europe. Shipping completed modules to the US would require additional cost and
put it at a disadvantage compared to First Solar which has a manufacturing plant in Ohio (Exhibit 9).
Incentives (governmental regulations require utilities to purchase renewable electricity at higher
rates), can only help the business to become established in the market, so are important in the short
and mid term only. Because European incentives diminish over time, in the long term all PV
technologies will compete based on price and performance therefore cost

The United States Marine Corps War Memorial
The United States Marine Corps War Memorial, which stands in Arlington National Cemetery, is
among the most famous statues in Washington D.C. Upon the conclusion of World War II, it was
erected and dedicated to the Marine dead of all wars and their comrades of other services who fell
fighting beside them (US National Park Services). The statue was based on a photograph taken by Joe
Rosenthal of six marines raising the flag over Mount Suribachi after an arduous battle with the
Japanese. The photo was an instant sensation, and it became known as one of the most iconic and
inspirational war photos ever taken. The image of the Marines raising the American flag over Iwo
Jima illustrates the depth of America s commitment to freedom, the ideal in which America s identity
as an exceptional nation is founded.
Though all people desire true freedom, most people in the world have never experienced it. Even
today, true freedom is still but a dream for millions. At the time of Rosenthal s photo, America was
mired in a protracted war with two major powers. Germany and Japan were strong aggressors who
were prepared for global conflict. The United States was hesitant to enter the fray until the bombing of
Pearl Harbor because of its isolationist background. Even then, the country was ill prepared for war.
For most of the war, there were no quick and easy victories, but victories, however small, were jolts of
energy to the psyche of the American people. One thing was for certain: losing

Implementing Best Procurement And Acquisition Practices
In order to institutionalize best procurement and acquisition practices in an organization, I would
begin by forming a cross functional team made up of supply management personnel, finance
personnel, attorneys, human resources, engineers, and other subject matter experts. As was highlighted
in chapter ___ of the class text, this is the best approach for ensuring that the broadest possible range
of ideas and perspectives are incorporated early into the planning process. Additionally, it ensures that
a great idea conceived of by one functional area is viewed from within the restrictions and/or
limitations imposed by another. As with specifications development, this process allows the team to
develop a reasonable, effective, and implementable plan that works across functional areas and
provides the greatest return on investment. One company that has been particularly successful in
implementing best practices is Toyota. I would adopt that companies approach to implementing best
practices by delegating responsibility down to the lowest level. For example, if anyone on the factory
floor spots a deficiency, he or she has the authority to stop the assembly line so that the condition and
its contributing factors may be examined, recorded, and analyzed. This same principle could be
applied to the acquisition process. By empowering rank and file purchasers, contract specialists,
contract administrators, and quality control personnel to approach management and provide input on

Phillis Wheatley Analysis
Anne Bradstreet once wrote, If we had no winter, the spring would not be so pleasant: if we did not
sometimes taste of adversity, prosperity would not be so welcome. This quote summarizes much of
what her and fellow female writer Phillis Wheatley s lives were like during their fights for social
change. Throughout their lives, these women were forced to live through challenges and injustices on
levels that are unimaginable to many of members of today s society. With the Bradstreet and Wheatley

protests. This is precisely the element of which both unites and distinguishes the two women on a very

continue to be significant figures in the world of writing and the arts. With the muses of the famed

important and proficient in the trade that men laid claim to in her time. In all of her piece, Bradstreet s
main idea that she hopes to convey is that since women have been such staples in the art for so long
that it only makes sense for them to be allowed to still. While both authors write in ways that express
radical ideas for their respective time periods, they were sure to write in methods that did not serve to
be inflammatory to their largely opposing audiences. This is the point in which their differences truly

Impact Of Natural Resources On Economic Growth
QUESTION 9
Natural resource and its effect on economic growth and dynamics of conflicts.
1.0 Introduction
Natural resources are raw materials extracted from the earth. They are useful in many different ways
for its diversified opportunity of benefit and profit for economic development. Examples of natural
resources are mineral, oil, waterways, land, timber, diamonds, coals, coltan and genetic. Majority of
developing countries, distributions of natural resources vary from one geographic location to another.
The variability of location has caused greed and grievances in economic development. This was
attributed to more risk of conflict, weak governance, and poor economic performance.
2.0 Effect of natural resources on economic growth.
According to Collier and Hoeffer (2003), there are three major factors that depend on the primary
commodity exports such as income per capita, rate of economic growth, and structure of the economy,
the higher the rate of primary commodities exports the higher the level of risk of conflict. Developing
countries that are dependent on natural resources are more liable to terms of trade shocks, which leads
to instability and dissatisfaction within the groups that suffer the shocks. Since natural resources are
wealth and unevenly distributed causes the rebel groups ventures in various forms of extortion,
exploitation, and trade of primary commodity. The best known types of conflict are the diamond of

The Keiserschlacht or Emperor s Battle
In 1914, General Erich Ludendorff, Germany s key commander in World War I, along with General
Paul von Hindenburg, strategically placed the German Army in a series of three 25 mile trenches in
central France. This new position gave the German s a false sense of security, which led them to
believe that they would win World War I. At first, the onslaught and brute force of the offensive
proved itself well. The Kaiserschlacht, or Emperor s Battle, quickly turned around due to lack of
supplies and heavy casualties. Since the Central Powers were becoming more confident, they made
more mistakes and thus began losing battles and eventually the war. Greater numbers and strength of
the Allied Powers ultimately led to the slaughter and defeat of the Germans under Generals
Ludendorff and Hindenburg. Germany had the chance to end the war before the resources from the
United States could be deployed into France and Britain. In an advantage by numbers, fearless leader
Ludendorff set off to gain land for Germany and defeat the Allied powers once and for all. The
Germans knew that they had to conquer Europe before the Americans could train soldiers and ship
men and supplies to the front lines. The addition of Americans to the Allied Powers would
significantly impact the outcome of the war. Germany still believed that they could win the war.
German hope was increased when Russia withdrew from the war in 1917. Ludendorff, a former chief
of staff under General Hindenburg, was a

Student Loan Repayment Calculator Analysis
A student loan repayment calculator is an essential tool in figuring out exactly how much money you
owe on your student loans and how long it will take you to pay them back. Tuition and fees are
currently so high at most universities that hardly any students can matriculate and graduate without
incurring debt. Whether you are a potential student trying to figure out how much money you should
reasonably borrow or a graduate trying to plan your repayment schedule, a student loan repayment
calculator can help you with the details.

qualify for extended repayment, your loans should be more than $30,000 and they should be Direct

like installment loans. You will pay the same amount every month for the length of the loan s term.
Graduated loans let the monthly payment grow every two years. Therefore, your payments start small

Literary Review of Bram Stoker s Dracula Essay
Review of Bram Stoker s Dracula Prior to the creation of the literary classic Dracula , Bram Stoker
spent his time managing the Lyceum Theatre and legendary actor Henry Irving. According to Jennifer
Dorn, when the novel was first published in 1897, critics regarded it as a pulp fiction potboiler (Dorn).
The novels declaration as a literary masterpiece came many years later. A graduate of Trinity college,
Stoker came from a middle class Irish family, the son of a civil servant. The publication The Literary
World of Bram Stoker, by Jennifer Dorn, declares that Stokers vision of the setting of London s

(Wikipedia, Gothic Fiction). This could leave the reader wondering if Stoker was really a sexist or a
secret applauder to the feminist movement by creating female characters who exhibit such
independence. There are many interpretation of Stokers inspiration for the characters in Dracula, and
of the Count himself. According to a biography written by Barbara Belford, Stoker based his dark
vampire character on his actor friend and employer, Henry Irving. Stokers slavish devotion to the
actor can be compared to the relationship between Renfield and the Count (Miller). In the novel,
Renfield is driven mad with powerful loyalty to the Count. Belford insinuates in The Biography of the
Author of Dracula, that the relationship between Irving and Stoker was of the same dominate nature.
Belford goes forward to declare that the Stoker slyly includes in his novel repressed homoerotic and
sexual tendencies, possibly his own, that were forbidden by society standards of that time. This issue
brought forth the fears of societal sexual independence in the Victorian era. Another speculation for
the inspiration of the Count Dracula in Stokers novel is of the Prince of Wallachia, Vlad III. He ruled
over what is now known as Romania during the years

  • 5. Absolute Male Authority In The Duchess Of Malfi The Duchess of Malfi not only challenges the concept of absolute male authority by having a female main character who has a will of her own and disobeys this authority, but it also illuminates the problem of the mentality of the conventional male who unquestioningly accepts the doctrines of the patriarchal system. This system is created to ensure that males are imbued with nearly limitless power, especially over women. In her book Male Subjectivity at the Margins, Kaja Silverman quotes Gayle Rubin, who claims that women though women are seen as object to be exchanged, in the way that people would exchange gifts. Rubin goes on to note that If women are gifts, then it is men who are the exchange partners, and it is the partners, not the presents, upon whom reciprocal exchange confers its quasi mystical power of social linkage (36). The concept that men possess a quasi mystical power simply because they are men, is part of what Silverman calls the dominant fiction that is the patriarchal structure. It could be said that the idea that men possess this inherent and absolute power leads to a God complex where men who are higher up in the social structure, and at times men who are not, feel that their authority is so absolute that any actions that they do not approve ... • 6. The Bolshevik Revolution of October 1917-Essay Review In 1917, in the midst of the Great War, Russia faced one of the biggest political shifts that the Tsarist ruled country had ever known the Bolshevik Revolution. There are two significant time frames associated with the Bolshevik Revolution. In the February revolution Tsar Nicholas II abdicated his throne and a Provisional Government took control. In the October revolution the Bolsheviks took power by overthrowing the Provisional Government. How did the October revolution become a reality? What factors facilitated the Bolshevik Revolution of October 1917? Two important factors were the July event at Taurida Palace, and the Kornilov Affair. After the July event, Lvov s resignation, Kerensky took control as the new Prime Minister. Richard Pipes gives a detailed account of the events that led up to the July event and the Bolsheviks preparedness. The Bolsheviks were opportunists and used propaganda to influence and agitate, gives credit to their political strategy. The Bolsheviks saw an opportunity and used it. They also understood that their timing had to be flawless. They did not want to quell the frenzy they had created among the mutineers; however, a premature large scale uprising would give the Provisional Government an excuse to crush them. Although the July event was a setback for the Bolsheviks, it did create a growing dissatisfaction among the soldiers. Many had no more will to fight, and lost their faith in the government. This would prove crucial when Kerensky would, with failed attempts, call on them to defend the Winter Palace against insurgents in the October Revolution. An important factor that facilitated the Bolshevik Revolution was the Kornilov Affair. Pipes and Fitzpatrick disagree in that Fitzpatrick refers to the Kornilov Affair as a coup based on national interest. Pipes refers to the Kornilov Affair as a coup in response to deception. Fitzpatrick writes the coup attempt by Kornilov was of his own design and without provocation. Pipes however, establishes the Kornilov Affair was a result of Kerensky s misperceptions. When melatonin increases and serotonin decreases, the offset of the proteins can cause circadian rhythms to be disrupted, which is the bodies 24 hour clock. In researching and finding information to develop a graphic organizer that could provide an overview of various types of assessments was insightful. Reading assessments are often mandated by a school district or state to determine where student are academically. In the case of reading test, the data received is supposed to give the assessor and idea of defects and growth of the reader. But is the information received from just one assessment tool giving an accurate and complete picture of reading skills. Assessments may determine if a student is reading with fluency, can comprehend what they have read, are able to decode words, and so on. Because of the variety of assessments it was difficult to narrow the field and select just five. Familiarity with the assessments assisted in my selection. The final five selected were; 1. Collection Portfolio Assessment, 2.Miscue Analysis, 3.Running Record, 4. Criterion Referenced Tests and 5. Each tool assesses reading in a variety of ways. The data they provide can determine the direction of current and future reading instruction. In researching portfolio I learned that there were various format and purposes. Portfolios can be the process oriented or product oriented. The formats I investigated were collection, display and teacher/student portfolios. I selected Collection Portfolio to compare with the other assessments tools. Again I selected this format because I was familiar with it. Even with that I learned that there was ... • 9. Summary Of The Brief Wondrous Life Of Oscar Wao In The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao by Junot Diaz the author uses the trick of different stories to sew together a series of experiences to create the full story of Oscar s life. There are many important pieces in the book that help create an understanding of how Oscar came to be Oscar. One example is the experiences of his family members while they lived in Santo Domingo, such as La Inca deciding to go find Beli and also when Beli fell in love with the Gangster. The influence of the sci fi world has also had a massive effect on Oscar, since he had no real examples of a healthy relationship he was under the impression that all relationships had to be like the one s he saw in movies. A turning point in Oscars future was when La Inca went to find Beli and save her from the family who locked her in a chicken coop. That was incredibly important because if La Inca hadn t gone and got Beli then Beli wouldn t have had to flee to America and Oscar wouldn t have been born at all. Diaz chose specific points in the book to tell the story of Beli while also telling the story of Oscar to show how Beli s life influenced Oscar. The use of Yunior as a narrator in this story is unique but it provides the reader with a bird s eye view of Beli s past and lets the reader see how it changed Oscar. Yunior s role shows the reader stories of people s past that we wouldn t otherwise have known if Yunior or Oscar had told the story from a first person point of view. Another example of a story that would have been unknown to the reader is when Beli fell in love with the Gangster, and it eventually led to her having to leave Santo Domingo to go to America where she would be safe. If she had not fell for the gangster then she most likely wouldn t have left and wouldn t have met Oscar s father in New York. If she hadn t left then Oscar would have grown up in Santo Domingo rather than New Jersey, and Oscar s worldview would have changed drastically. Diaz introduced the story of Beli growing up in Santo Domingo to show the difference between growing up there versus Paterson. Doha Negotiations The World Trade Organisation (WTO) exists to implement trade rules amongst the nations (Robbins Coulter, 2009). Agreements are negotiated by member nations in rounds one being the gathering in Doha which commenced in 2001. Subjects discussed included eliminating agricultural export subsidies, reducing export barriers to developing countries, facilitating trade, combatting dumping practices along with other topics (WTO, 2016). Negotiations were abandoned at the end of 2015 after having failed to reach agreement on many topics, risking rendering the WTO irrelevant (Donnan, 2015). The implications of such protracted negotiations, described by The Economist in 2008 as watching paint that never dries , threatened the credibility of the WTO, particularly in the relation to the reduction of agricultural subsidies and tariffs. We tend to think that what see is true, but sometimes our perceptions of things is not reality. Many magic tricks and optical illusions can trick our brain into seeing something that s not real. Having our eyes deceiving us multiple times show that how we perceive things aren t always accurate. First of all, looking at things from a certain perspective can change the way something looks. For example, Julian Beever, a chalk artist, who draws pavement art on the streets uses a certain technique in his work. In the book, it states, When seen from one special angle, these images come together to create the illusion that his anamorphic drawings are truly three dimensional. Viewed this way, his drawings seem to come to life (Chalk Art 89). The fall of what was to have been an unbeatable fortress caused a disaster for Belgium for the second time in a generation (Martin, 2001). While Laughridge argues that these tactics, training, and weaponry combined with the element of complete surprise, and were the primary reasons for the phenomenal successes that day (2006), it should also be noted that there were key intelligence failures on the Belgian side that allowed this to happen. Similarly, referring to the emplacement of countermeasures to prevent glider landings, McNab argues, had [the Belgian high command] been more energetically committed to maintaining the vigor of its defences, it might have prevented the fall of Eben Emael with nothing more than a few pieces of steel or wood (2013, p. 72). In both cases, overcoming intelligence deficiencies could have had a dramatic impact on the battle, which would have had far reaching implications for the long term success or failure for Germany in the opening stages of World War II. If Fort Eben Emael had been able to hold on long enough to destroy the bridges and for allied reinforcements to arrive, it is possible that Germany s westward advance could have been halted by Fort Eben Emael and the Maginot Line and the Second World War might have been prevented, or at least contained. Evil In Plato s The Republic In The Republic Plato suggests that unless kings rule as philosophers or that philosophers rule as kings, there will always be evil, which is a logical fallacy that does not take into account the core of human nature, of which is to preserve oneself solely for the purpose of reproducing and continuing their bloodline. Plato s take on a perfect city without evil by cause of it being ruled by a Philosopher King is an idea that makes absolute sense on paper, but would be irrational to try to conceive in real life. The notion that philosophy is the most important asset that a person can take advantage of is grounded and logical and holds true as a result of many modern day beliefs being rooted in Greek philosophy thus forming how people think and behave today, however due to the sheer number of people on this planet, as well as accounting the selfish nature of humans in general it is illogical to suggest that evil can be vanquished from within society. It became more prominent in 1993 when the Hawaiian Supreme court declared that state s prohibition against marriage between people of the same sex to be unconstitutional (Weiss, 2013). In response to this, there was significant public outcry and opponents of marriage equality asserted that marriage could only be defined as a union between a man and a woman. This resulted in prohibitive legislation that was enacted in 1996 known as the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) DOMA prevented the federal government from recognizing same sex marriages (Baker, 2013). DOMA also allowed each state to refuse recognition of same sex marriages performed in other states. Be that as it may, in the 21st century, public and legislative support for marriage equality has grown and various national polls conducted since 2011 show that a majority of Americans support marriage equality (Live Science Staff, 2011; Newport, 2011). • 23. The Blood Rushing Effect On Readers, And Dracula By Bram... Only few stories and novels have the blood rushing effect on readers, and Dracula by Bram Stoker is one of those novels. This novel utilizes the method of using letters and other documents in order to tell the story. The application of the epistolary technique in the story Dracula proves to be quite effective because it does enable the reader to foresee the happenings in the story on a closer and more personal scale. In this novel, the man who writes the letters in Transylvania experiences a vast amount of supernatural experiences. Within the first four chapters of Dracula, Jonathan Harker witnesses supernatural occurrence s such as seeing flickering blue lights, how Jonathan Harker s coachman magically made the were wolves disappear, and how he cannot see the Count Dracula s reflection in the mirror. In the novel Dracula, Jonathan Harker tries to overlook these supernatural occurrences because of Mr. Hawkins interest. However, this reason may not be the most realistic justification in why Jonathan is persistent in his stay, but rather he is also aware that he is a prisoner. The novel Dracula also has many other supernatural aspects such as the three women in Count Dracula s house, and how Count Dracula proceeds down the walls in a lizard like manner. In the novel Dracula, it could be argued that Jonathan Harker is not a reliable narrator because of the fact that he is the only one in the book experiencing these occurrences and his mental state is questionable at times. Critical Analysis Of Walt Whitman s Song Of Myself In Walt Whitman s Song of Myself , the poet showcases his feelings of people and himself by using literary descriptors to convey his thoughts on these and various other subjects. In section 20, Whitman s purpose is to showcase self assuredness regardless of what the world tries to state otherwise by maintaining his resolute happiness in being himself. This is what sets him apart from being like the other people in the world. Whitman is known for being revolutionary for his use of free form verse in the nineteenth century. This style is evident throughout Song of Myself which aids in his descriptions and devices used to get his meaning across. His grouping of three lines per stanza for this section is common for the entirety of Song of Myself , which has variations of three line to occasionally five line stanzas. His freedom in his poem s style and lack of rhyme scheme allow him to fully showcase his thoughts in a new way for this time period. An overall summary of the poem is Whitman s pondering of himself and the world in behavior and personality to him being fully confident in himself with no existential crisis. For the first half of section 20, Whitman s character of himself questions everything beyond the ownership of himself. He questions the integrity of other people s identities and characters as well as ignoring social norms involving manners and religious behavior. Upon the conclusion of World War II, it was erected and dedicated to the Marine dead of all wars and their comrades of other services who fell fighting beside them (US National Park Services). The statue was based on a photograph taken by Joe Rosenthal of six marines raising the flag over Mount Suribachi after an arduous battle with the Japanese. At the time of Rosenthal s photo, America was mired in a protracted war with two major powers. Germany and Japan were strong aggressors who were prepared for global conflict. The United States was hesitant to enter the fray until the bombing of Pearl Harbor because of its isolationist background. Even then, the country was ill prepared for war. As was highlighted in chapter ___ of the class text, this is the best approach for ensuring that the broadest possible range of ideas and perspectives are incorporated early into the planning process. Additionally, it ensures that a great idea conceived of by one functional area is viewed from within the restrictions and/or limitations imposed by another. As with specifications development, this process allows the team to develop a reasonable, effective, and implementable plan that works across functional areas and provides the greatest return on investment. One company that has been particularly successful in implementing best practices is Toyota. The Keiserschlacht or Emperor s Battle In 1914, General Erich Ludendorff, Germany s key commander in World War I, along with General Paul von Hindenburg, strategically placed the German Army in a series of three 25 mile trenches in central France. The Kaiserschlacht, or Emperor s Battle, quickly turned around due to lack of supplies and heavy casualties.
