Pony Express Research Paper
As a student studying business and communication, The Pony Express is a piece of history in the
United States before 1877 that is important and sometimes overlooked. It was a short lived service that
was created during the Civil War aimed to make communication to the West faster and easier. This
service relied on the use of horses and lightweight riders to bring mail back and forth across more than
100 stations 24 hours a day. The Pony Express riders used a 2,000 mile trial that stretched from
Missouri to California, switching horses and riders at different stations. After 19 months of service,
they were no longer needed as the development of the telegraph made it more efficient and effective to
send messages over greater distances. Even though this service only lasted short of two ... Show more

Today, communication is taken for granted as almost everything is at the touch of our finger tips. We
are no longer limited to how we can send messages like in people the 1800s. Today we have, more or
less, perfected the technology and capability to communicate with others. Sending a message to one
recipient or a mass of people is now simple, digital, and instantaneous. It is amazing to think about
how we had to rely on a horse rider to travel days just to deliver our mail when we now have planes,
cars/trucks, and digital mail. Not only is the medium and speed in which we can use to send our
messages or products, but also the quantity is amazing. Every second, an unimaginable number of
emails are being sent and received every second. Just the same amount of packages and letters are
being shipped and delivered every day compared to the small amount that horses can carry along with
a rider. As a business, it was an admirable endeavor to offer the public a service that they needed.
Despite going bankrupt, The Pony Express founders were very entrepreneurial to be

The Impact Of Flash And Cloud On The Enterprise Applications
This paper describes impact of flash and cloud on the enterprise applications. The new technologies
increase the flexibility. A Flash drive is a data storage device which uses the solid state memory to
store data insistently. It illustrates the common practices in the enterprise storage array design and
trade offs. It offers improvement in the enterprise storage systems with the random and sequence I/O.
It increases the need for the performance to support the enterprise applications. The price of storage
capacity comes down regularly. The latency with the rotational speed and seek of the disk access arm
have being improved slightly. Enterprise applications, database, financial analytics, data warehousing,
data mining, virtual desktop infrastructure and virtual machine deployment all these requires high
performance infrastructure and security based storage systems. The existing systems consume more
time to load and slow down its speed. Organizations are upgrading the technological systems to the
flash and cloud environment and offers security to the data storage in the cloud using the new
encryption techniques. This paper illustrates about the business impact of cloud computing such as
tax, marketing and sales, vendor lock in, tax, internal audit and finance. Business officials, who prefer
the proprietary vendor technology might include the higher costs to migrate to another cloud platform
environment. Introduction Flash storage brings an improvement to any storage

The Consequences Of Death In Frankenstein By Mary Shelly
Frankenstein by Mary Shelly shows the journey of a man that craves knowledge and because of this
he eventually creates life himself. However, the outcome was not what he had planned and he fled
from his creation and what was to follow were severe consequences. Victor sees his creation as a
monster and a mistake. The creature has committed some horrible actions that give Victor a reason to
believe this. However, when the creature speaks of what has happened to him, Victor begins to
sympathize with him. The same may be said about the readers. Readers are able to have a deeper
understanding of the creature through his side of the story, his desire for love and attention, and
comparing the different versions of the creature through time.
Frankenstein s creature learns how to speak when he is hiding near the Delacey family. He gains an
understanding for emotions and what causes them. While hovering by the Delacey family, he develops
an emotional connection the the family and shares in their joy and sorrow. Through this, the readers
are able to see the the creature is capable of emotions There he learns about the life he believed was
like the one he should have. Mary Shelley dedicates a full chapter to the creature sharing his story, and
because of this the reader is able to understand the creature s emotions and sympathize with him.

feelings and his side of the story. It also

Arbitron Incorporation Summary
Edison Reasearch and The Arbitron Incorporation administered a survey in 2013 to provide statistics
on behaviors and attitudes of people who access digital platforms. Their findings shed light on the use
of social media networks and smartphones, which influence the quality of communication in society.
This study found that six in ten Americans have a social profile on a SNS and that 71 million
Americans show habitual use of social media. A thirty eight percent increase in a five year span of
those who have a SNS, and a twenty two percent increase of habitual users. The greatest growth rate is
seen in people 55 and older, which is not surprising. People of this age group typically experience

ASSIGNMENT
STATE , POLITICAL, ECONOMY AND GOVERNANCE
PAPER NO 6104
ENCOUNTERING STATE IN EVERYDAY LIFE
SUBMITTED BY NIKITA KATARIA

STATE
Different political scientists have given definitions of state. According to Aristotle, the father of
political science, The state is an organization consisting some families and villages. According to
Woodraw Wilson, State is a conglomeration of people within a definite territory organised by law .
Professor Garner has given complete definition of state. The state is a group of people, more or less
numerous, permanently occupying a definite portion of territory, independent of external control and
possessing an organized government to which the great body of ... Show more content on

For instance the area of the Peoples Republic of China is 44.5 lakhs sq. mile but the Netherland
occupies an area of 12,500 sq. mile.
Government The third element to form a state is government. The population living in a definite
territory cannot form a state without a government. Those who conduct the state, which is, the
Legislative Division, the Executive Division, and the Judiciary form the government collectively
.There can be different types of government in different states.
Sovereignty The most important part to form a state is sovereignty . It is the supreme and final power
of the state. It is because of this power the population becomes a state. The power separates the state
from other organizations. There exist two powers of sovereignty which are internal and external. With
the internal power the state exercises power and authority over all individuals as well as institutions.
On the other hand, the external sovereign power, keeps the state free from the control and interference
by the outside forces. In spite of the population, definite territory and the government, a country will
not be considered as a state without the sovereign power. A state is formed with all of these four
elements. It cannot be formed without the existence of any one of these elements.
State is a political organization which regulate its citizen through government for providing welfare
and imposing restrictions on them so that they can live their life smoothly.

Turmoil to Hostility in Ireland
1845, was the start of a long period of great trouble for the Irish people. Although through many
struggles, the Irish prospered as a community. Starting in 1845 the Irish lost their main crop due to an
unknown fungus then got uprooted to immigrate or died of disease. The Irish came to America
searching for the American dream but only found hostility and unacceptance. This paper will cover
troubles through the potato famine, the journey here and even how they were treated when they got to
America.
The potato blight, most known as the Irish potato famine, caused death and despair. The famine was
the main reason the Irish left to immigrate to the United States. Death rates began to rise because of
the starvation and diseases such as, cholera, measles and fever, caused by the lack of Ireland s main
food supply and crop. According to Donnelly, Overall excess morality from 1846 51 amounted to
1,082,000 people (171). Typhus and relapsing fever were the worst killers and those led into dysentery
and diarrhoea. Donnelly states, Factors that correlate most strongly with most death was income per
capita and literacy rate (178). Most of Ireland s population was settled into poverty. However, any of
the Irish fell into poverty because of the famine and diseases attracted to the poor. Irish in rural areas
moved to the cities in search for the food and shelter they lacked and as they moved disease followed
them and spread throughout the cities. Unsanitary conditions and

My Visit to the Brooklyn Museum
During my visit to the Brooklyn Museum, I found it both intriguing and informative. The layout of the
exhibition was divided into about three to four sections. Each section of the museum represented a
movement of the 60 s. The themes represented were segregation of blacks and whites, how they tried
to gain equality and the changes they anticipated would happen in the future. The artwork throughout
the exhibit was displayed in a varying gradient of black and white to colors. The type of background
information provided in the exhibit were captions under each artwork specifying the artists name, the
year and time it was created and what message the artwork was trying to portray. I did find the
information that was provided to me helpful because it gave me an insight on to what the specific
artwork was about and the message it was trying to convey to the me, the viewer. One artwork I
observed in this exhibit was David Hammons (American, b. 1943). The Door (Admissions Office),
1969. In this photograph it shows a body pressed against a door trying to gain entry into an admissions
office. The main character is a young African American boy. The role the character plays is a student
trying to get admissions into a White school. During this time the U.S. Federal Government
implemented school desegregation throughout the nation in 1954. White communities did not like the
idea of this and tried blocking black students from attending these white schools. The photo brings out

Another Rhyton was also discovered in Russia from Central Asia. Its forepart is shaped like a wildcat

Turkemenian Wine Horn. It is also a symbol of the Greek wine god Dionysus, whose cult spread
eastwards with the conquests of Alexander the Great. Dionysus roman name was Bacchus.
Commemoration/celebration of him during the ancient times was used as a theatre performance. Due
to festivities of wine which was held twice a year winter and spring, Christians made them Christmas
and Easter.

Persia of the Sasanides is iconography of royal image. Iconography has a lot of meanings. First it
literally means a symbolic representation, especially the conventional meanings attached to an image

Why Are Internships Important In Social Work Degree Programs
Laura: Why Are Internships Important in Social Work Degree Programs?
The Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) recommends accredited social work degree programs
to offer internships and practicums. The CSWE s Educational Policy and Accreditation Standards
states that internships are a kind of field education that must meet certain requirements. Internships
must be directly associated with an accredited social work program at institution of higher learning.
The internship should have academic structure with established classroom objectives. Students should
be offered educational credit, the internship should be supervised by a social worker and schools
cannot substitute internships for mandatory classroom training.
http://www.cswe.org/Accreditation.aspx The Benefits of a Internships for Social Workers
Social work internships provide a strong dose of reality for students. One of the greatest challenges
that social workers face is transitioning from a comfortable educational setting to the social work field

The more field training a professional receive, the better prepared and equipped they are to start their
careers successfully. Declining an internship may result in the case worker making the wrong
judgement call and unwittingly ruining the client s life. All social workers must have certain
foundation skills that are properly developed through educational institutions that follow the CSWE s
accreditation standards. Some critics feel the internship is unnecessary for non traditional students
with impressive skills, knowledge and experience. However, training standards should be raised, not
lowered for social workers. Removing internships contributes to lower levels of professional
expertise, clinical understanding and practice

A Summary Of The Cherokee Tribe
History of Traditions Overdriving Biological Patterns
The Cherokee Tribe is among the more popularly known Native American tribes in the United States.
They are mainly remembered for their fight against the U.S. government and the Supreme Court and
their forced migration in the Trail of Tears. However, as mentioned by North Carolina Digital History
and Robert Conley, because of their written language, many of their traditions and history is well
known and taught in schools as an example of Native American culture (10.2 and 105). Michael D.
Green and Theda Perdure introduce Cherokee history in the book, The Cherokee Removal: A Brief
History with Documents. The tribe originally inhabited southeast North America in what is currently
Kentucky, Tennessee, South Carolina, and into northern Georgia and Alabama 1). From 1836 to 1839
the Cherokee Tribe was forcibly and harshly removed and relocated in Oklahoma in what is known as
The Trail of Tears (Green 160) Throughout all the changes the Cherokee had to undergo as they lost
their traditional land and home, they were able to keep their traditions, rituals, and ceremonies and
some, such as the dance and medicine use, are still practiced today. Traditions and rituals are repeated
over and over, year after year. For an event to have this much significance in a society it must have
been important from the time it began. As Miller Williams, a poet from 1930 2015, said, Ritual is
important to us as human beings. It ties us to our

I m finally in the lung. I can finally see what it looks like. I see a structure that looks like a three

passage of air between the trachea and lung (Health Type, 2012). As I move along the right primary
bronchi branches off into the right secondary bronchi. Each one of the bronchi serves as an airway to a
specific lobe of the lung (Wikipedia, 2011). The bronchi have cartilage plates, smooth muscles, and
mucus secreting gland cells in its wall (Wikipedia, 2011). They contain cilia, which removes dust and
debris. Wow! The right secondary bronchi are branching off into very small passageways called
bronchioles. The bronchioles are responsible for controlling air distribution and airflow resistance in
the lungs (Wise Geek, 2012). They also contain cilia that help move air through the system. The
bronchioles are now terminating at the alveolar ducts. They are the tiny end ducts that fill the lungs. At

obviously weren t around when the house in the background was built. However there are lots of other
old things that are used throughout the ad such as the old music player that plays the tapes for the two
ad campaigns, Compare the Market and Compare the Meerkat. All of the old thing is the house are
dull, dark and boring to look at so what have made the presentation boards bright blue and green to
make them stand out from the rest of the house so they have a huge impact on the audience. This
meerkat maybe classy and sophisticated but he is old school inclined. This will help it appeal to the
older demographic that we are targeting and well as the younger group.
In the first scene of the ad the meerkat says, Meerkats, car insurance. Two very different things. He
lets the audience know that they are advertising car insurance however you never see a car or there is
never another mention of cars or car insurance. We have done this so the viewers will feel inclined to
see what he was really talking about and discover that there is more to compare the market than just

The Character Of Matilda By Roald Dahl s Matilda
Imagine for just a minute living as a young, about five and a half year old, little girl. The average five
year old would probably be doing things such as coloring, learning to read, being spoiled by their
parents and napping. But in Roald Dahl s novel ,Matilda. Let s just say Matilda is Not your average

writing limerick poems. While living with a rather ignorant family, you know the kind that eats in

horrendous school principal. Lucky for Matilda, she has Superlative smarts, outstanding wit, and a
heroic personality.
Matilda the protagonist in Roald Dahl s novel, is many things, In particular what stood out
indubitably, was matilda s remarkable intelligence. One example of this may be found on page 53,
Matilda said quietly , Dad, you made exactly four thousand three hundred and three pounds and fifty
pence altogether. The father glanced down at the paper in his hand. He seemed to stiffen. He became
very quiet. There was silence. As clearly shown in the text stated Matilda undoubtedly proves she is
far more intelligent than many, including her own father who not to mention is in his forties and
Matilda of course, is only five. Matildas smarts are shown yet again on page 13,

Description of what I did (including where and what equipment used) Why was this method
necessary? (How will it help me to answer the title?)
Problems I had Suggestions for improvements / extension of study
Cross section: Done in a group, Primary Data
To measure the cross sectional area, we stretched out a tape measure across the river from one side of
the bank to the other. Starting at 0cm, we put a metre ruler into the water, ensuring that it touched the
ground, and first measured to where the water stopped at the ruler to find the water depth. Then, we
measured from the bottom to where the tape was stretched out to find the depth of the channel. We
repeated this every 20cm until we got to the other side. This method was done for sites 1 and 2 on
27th June 2016, at about 10:30 am for site 1 (Busketts Lawn) and about 2:30 pm for site 2
(Woodlands). It took us about 20 minutes overall for each site. This method is necessary because it
will let me draw up a cross section graph which allows me to find the occupied channel width (a key
question), wetted perimeter and hydraulic radius of the river so I can see how this changes as I go
downstream. The higher the hydraulic radius the lower the amount of water contacting the bed and
banks so the river should be more efficient because it has less friction and water can move at a higher
velocity. Therefore, I can see how the efficiency of the river changes downstream. A main issue we
had with this was that

Health Care Budget
Most entities and organization create budgets as a guide for controlling its spending, prediction of
profit, and it expenditure as they progress toward a set goal. Budget involves pulling resources
together to achieve a specific goal. According to Gapenski (2006), budgeting is an offshoot in a
planning process. A basic managerial accounting tool use in holding planning and control functions
together is referred to as set of budgets (p. 255). One major setback manager or budget developer

Flexibility of budget
No project is done perfect the first time; there is always a chance an error that needs correction or new
ideas to make it perfect. So it is with creating and monitoring a budget. Having an accommodation for
changes in a budget is a very good practice. It helps managers and budget developers respond to
competitive setbacks or breakthrough more precisely and quick; by using available resources for good
opportunities or correction of errors.
Least Effective Measures in Creating an Operating Budget
Budget formulation and use are tools that guide many decision making strategies in business. The
measures that are least effective could create an avalanche of catastrophic events that can negatively
impact the decision making strategies. It is in the best interest of the pertinent parties to draft an
operating budget based on a collective set of information relating to organizational vision and mission.
Ineffective measures can be catastrophic based on the foundation for measures used in creating the
budget. Among the many issues organizations face that relates to creating an effective operating
budget results from poor

Essay on The Sonnet Genre Combining with Figurative Language
The Sonnet Genre Combining with Figurative Language
Compare how the conventions of the sonnet genre combine with figurative language to create
meaning in at least two texts.
Originating in Italy, the sonnet was established by Petrarch in the 14th century as a major form of love
poetry, and came to be adopted in
England in the 16th century (Oxford Literary terms). Overtime there have been different types of
sonnets written, for example the Italian
(Petrarchan) sonnet, the English (Shakespearean) sonnet and the
Spenserian sonnet. Each of these sonnets have there own conventions and use different types of poetic
language to help create meaning for the reader. For the purpose of this essay we will look at how the
conventions of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A typical rhyme scheme of a Shakespearean sonnet would be that of
ABABCDCDEFEFGG. Spenserian sonnets combine both the Shakespearean and
Italian forms. Just like the Shakespearean form it uses 3 quatrains followed by a couplet. However the
rhyme scheme is like the Italian, linking all stanzas together ABABBCBCCDCDEE. An essential
element of all three types of sonnets is that of the volta which is used to signify a change in subject
matter, for example in the Italian form the volta normally occurs at the ninth line. The two sonnets I
will be examining within this essay predominantly use the conventions of a
Shakespearean sonnet.
When exploring the conventions of Sonnet 18 we can see it has the typical conventions of a
Shakespearean sonnet using three quatrains and a rhyming couplet. The first quatrain establishes the
theme of comparing the speaker s beloved with a summer s day, and why it is difficult to do so. The
whole of sonnet 18 is used as an extended metaphor, and this is seen from the very beginning:
Shall I compare thee to a summers day?
Thou art more lovely and more temperate (1 2)
The sonnet begins with a metaphoric question, asking if the speaker should compare this person with
summer. The speaker then answers by saying she is more lovely and more temperate this combines
with the meaning created by the first quatrain immediately giving the reader an idea that the speaker
feels his beloved

However, before strategy came into being, competition has already existed for a long time. With the
evolution of life, the first single celled organisms served as nutrition for more complex organisms,
whose development over time, lead to a dense network of competitive interactions. Over millions of
years, no use of strategies was required, as it was only a matter of natural selection and survival of the
fittest (Darwin 1859).
Strategic behavior implies the ability of logical reasoning in connection to the ability to forecast
possible reactions to undertake relevant actions. The first strategy implemented by human beings was
probably the conquest of antagonistic hunting territory. However, as mentioned above, strategic
concepts, which include all the elements that make up a strategy according to its definition, were first
developed in connection with military operations. The challenges which needed to be mastered were:
the uncertainty about the ability and the intention of the enemy, irreversible commitment of limited
resources, uncertainty about the control of the situation and the fundamental nature of the mutual
perception between the candidates. Given such conditions, it is of course very difficult to formulate an
effective strategy. This fact was already illustrated around the year 500 BC when the Chinese general,
military strategist and philosopher Sun Tzu said: Everyone can recognize the tactics

Verbatim Reflection
When I brought this verbatim to my supervisor and peers, I received affirmation and criticism that I
carried with me the rest of the summer. They named one of my main strengths that they saw show up
in this verbatim my ability to connect with people on a human level, to make people feel comfortable
and at ease in my presence. They saw this in how the patient felt comfortable sharing her struggles
concerning her hospital trip, but also about her daughter and her churches. To me, I did not see this as
anything special; I thought it was normal and natural to focus not only on what was happening in the
hospital, but on the patient s life more broadly I want patients to know that they are more than their
present illness, and that their present ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It opened the door to extend grace to myself, and to be aware of when my own fear and discomfort
was getting in the way of a pastoral visit. This awareness is not natural, but comes as a result of
reflecting both individually and with others.
Question 5: Impressions of Clinical Pastoral Education
The most significant learning experience I had from CPE was a shift from doing things perfectly, to
being a human to another human. When I started CPE, I was fearful I did not know what to do. The
scant few days of training and orientation seemed wholly inadequate for the task ahead I was
supposed to provide pastoral care? I was supposed to be a chaplain? Suddenly the vocation I had
dreamed of doing for so long was before me, and I was terrified of messing it up. The clinical method
of learning action, reflection, action seemed outrageous. I am a perfectionist, and I often want to know
the exact steps in the procedure; I want to know what to do to achieve optimal results. I was
immobilized by fear of failure. Our supervisor jokingly cajoled us with the phrase, Get lost! What
started as his best advice to navigating the confusing world of the hospital became advice in a much
broader sense. He emphasized that CPE was about getting lost and finding your way through, it was
about letting go of a theology of perfection to

The Last Two Decades Have Been Severely Focused On Lincoln
9. Introduction: The last two decades have been severely focused on Lincoln. You can find different
views on how the 19th century went, and this book was created to enhance people s understanding of
Lincoln and his time. The authors of the separate essays in the book are described in detail, like Mark
Neeley who gave new information on the civil liberties during that century and Harold Holzer who
describes Lincoln s love for showing his image.
1. Lincoln, Commander In Chief: Abraham Lincoln was unprepared but did everything he could
during the time of the Civil War. His only experince of war was the Black Hawk War that occurred in
1824. He mocked his entire military career during one of his speeches to Congress because he felt he
didn t make enough change. During his time as Commander in Chief, he learned a lesson on how to
deal with military forces when he ordered troops into service. Despite the lack of experience with
military, he was a self taught lawyer, master of geometry, and did try to work hard with military
stategy. By 1862, he was actually considered a master. Many historians consider him better than any
other presidents before him, despite the fact that he was bounded by war. His first document was
actually war related. He tried his best even though in the end, he ended up being shot just five days
after General Robert. E. Lee surrended at the battle of Appomatox. Lincoln really spent most of his
time dealing with war matters than anything. He only left

Juvenile Sex Offenders Essay example
Sexual assault is one of the fastest growing violent crimes in America. Approximately 20% of all
people charged with a sexual offense are juveniles. Among adult sex offenders, almost 50% report that
their first offense occurred during their adolescence. (FBI, 1993) There are many different opinions,
treatment options and legislation to manage the growing numbers of juvenile sex offenders. In today s
society the psychological and behavioral modification treatments used to manage juvenile sex
offenders is also a growing concern. To understand and determine the proposed treatment methods,
several related issues will need to be reviewed such as traditional sex offender therapy methods like
cognitive therapy and alternative therapies like ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to Phoenix police, the girl was lured to a storage shed at an apartment complex. The four
boys, who had offered the girl chewing gum, allegedly restrained and sexually assaulted her. The
Phoenix police officers called the case, one of the worst they have investigated in many years. The 14
year old was charged as an adult and will face two counts of sexual assault and one count of
kidnapping. The other three boys were charged in juvenile court with sexual assault, and two of them
also were charged with kidnapping. (Trevino CNN, 2009) Currently, it is estimated that adolescents
(ages 13 to 17) account for up to one fifth of all rapes and one half of all cases of child molestation
committed each year (Barbaree, Hudson, and Marshall, 1993).
Who are Juvenile Sex Offenders?
There is a moderate portion of juvenile law violations that are minor; however some young offenders
are extremely dangerous and violent. (Caldwell, 2002) Studies have shown that most delinquent
behavior stems from some sort of underlining issue or issues in a youth s present or past history. State
and county authorities must deal with these offenders while also responding to their personal social
problems. This could range from child abuse and neglect, family issues and drug abuse, exposure to
pornography and exposure to aggressive role models.
Juvenile sex offenders are those who target children and those who offend

Postmodernism And Modernism
Successfully marketing a product is a fundamental component in remaining competitive in the vicious
dog eat dog world of business. The rise of postmodernism in society redefined what successful and
adaptive marketing looks like and consequently it gave branding a whole new meaning and
significance. Postmodernism means different things to different disciplines, yet the general consensus
is that it is a contemporary cultural phenomenon (Brown 1996). The postmodern brand model enabled
brands to have an identity that connects with its customers by presenting brands in an anthropological
view via customer engagement promotions. The gradual domination of social media in western
society enables organizations to market their brands to exist beyond ... Show more content on

Hyperreality is one of the most apparent features in all forms of advertising. Common examples of
hyperreality advertising include beauty promotions that were touched up with photoshop, products
that claim to have outrageous effects (e.g. Redbull gives you wings ), and it is also sold in fantasy
video games (League of Legends, Street Fighter, Assassins Creed, etc.). Furthermore, advertising is
often clandestinely placed in sporting video games because it s integrated in its culture (adverts on the
boards in NHL games, billboards in racing games, etc.) (Kaplan and Haenlein 2009, 565).
Hyperreality exists in reality television shows such as Big Brother and Survivor , the participants of
the show are aware that they are being perpetually recorded and it alters their regular behavior and
mannerisms. Social network communities further perpetuate the existence of hyperreality online as
there is over a combined one billion users between just Facebook and Twitter alone. These social
networks are then used to communicate with its customers and concurrently encourage consumers to
share their brand experiences with each other.
Anti foundationalism is the final trait being reviewed, in a marketing context it is about brands and/or
advertisementss going against the grain of societal norms. Geico is an example of how anti
foundationalism can be enforced successful for a brand s image. Geico, a company that sells car
insurance, managed to make it s brand

The Conflict Theory Of Social Groups
Intergroup Competition is the idea that social groups will extend from the desire for a group to gain
the scarce resources that exist (36 40). This idea is greatly supported by the segment on affirmative
action in the video (36 40). As said in the movie, the idea is that scholarship money and grant money
is a scarce resource when students decide to go to college (37 40). In this view, the individuals who
are against affirmative action are competing for that scarce resource (36 40). By using techniques like
affirmative action and racial and/or ethnic based scholarships present the subordinate group s strive for
power, and the arguments against these resources are the dominant group s attempt to maintain their
power (36 40). Moreover, the strive to gain these programs is not just for their own individual self
interest, but is for the interest of their social group as a whole to maintain the group s desires (36 40).
It is in this belief that s the Realistic Conflict Theory resides (36 40). In this, their exists the view that
this conflict for scarce resources subsequently produces prejudice, in which a privileged group has a
sense of group position and strives to protect it (36 40). This is shown in the video by the idea of
reverse racism, in which the dominant group tries to grain pity for their loss of domination by saying
that affirmative action gives African Americans an unfair advantage, thus racially profiling the
subordinate group while trying to maintain their

The Importance Of Creationism In Schools
Creationism does not explain how the earth was created, therefore it should not be taught as a science
and should not be taught in schools. My thesis is important, because schools are trying to stop
teaching evolution because they believe it is not the way life on earth started. The teaching of
evolution in schools is important, because it teaches students the correct reason for how life on earth
started. The articles that I collected for my research, where academic journals from the library data
base and had a stand point towards science. My paper will give the reader a broader view point on
why creationism should not be taught in schools and how evolution should remain in schools.
Creationism has been a controversial topic in our school systems and schools in some states are
fighting to have it taught instead of evolution as a science. Creationism is the belief that all living
organisms originated from a biblical process instead of evolution. We will never really know how the
earth was created, but by the use of science, we can get a better understanding of it. Therefore
creationism should not be taught as a science and should not be taught in school. The teachers are the
people that have to deal with this topic the most because of all the pressure they get from school
administrators, parents and the community. Some science teachers have been told not to teach about
evolution, but they did it nevertheless. One of the most famous cases was the

Allies To Blame For The Injustices In Ww2 Essay
To what extent should the allies share the guilt for the injustices perpetrated during the 1930s and
World War II?
This symposium gave delegates the opportunity to hear and speak on different perspectives of the
influential nations or powers that were major aspects of the World War II. Almost all allied force
delegates denied accusations to take any part of the blame for the injustices perpetrated during this
atrocious time and the events preceding. The Axis forced admitted to their faults, but provided strong
reasoning of why the Allies should share the blame. Allied forces denied accusations to take full blame
or partial blame for the brutality perpetrated throughout this atrocious time and the events preceding.
The Axis seeked the share of oppression and maltreatment of citizens amid the war, while Allies
demanded for the full burden to impose on the Axis, rather than distribution of blame.

land to justify the transgression of Germany. Charles De Gaulle effectively stressed the allies mistakes

these and the influence on the World War II. Canada s stance was the pacifist ideal, Carine Wilson
articulated the ideal by utilising the wording of horrible on both sides through the internment camps ,

Analysis Of Jim Mccormick s Short Story Breaking Through...
The two stories Breaking through Uncertainty and Neighbours are both stories about how big the
benefits are when risks have been taken. The first short story is about how a skydiver must overcome
his own uncertainty, to save himself from certain death. While the other story is still dramatic, just in a
different tone; it s about a young woman, who must decide whether or not a friendship is worth
standing up for something that s right. The protagonists in both stories, have to take risks, and they re
both rewarded for taking those risks; one with his life, and the other with a stronger friendship. Even
though the skydiver is risking his life, the protagonist in Neighbours had more gut to do what she had
to do, where is the skydiver just let second nature take over. Above all, the protagonists both did
experience serious risk taking moments, and they both benefited for the greater good.
Breaking Through Uncertainty by Jim McCormick is about how a skydiver is plummeting to his
death, and he has got to figure out how to save himself. All the while the skydiver must deal with his
self doubt. In paragraph eight, we see actually how much danger the skydiver is in I looked up to
assess my canopy and saw something I don t often see; the horizon clearly visible ABOVE the trailing
edge of my canopy. The skydiver obviously now knows what the stakes are if he messes up, which
make his self doubt start to kick in. He starts to worry he s not going to do it, the only thing

Sending a message to one recipient or a mass of people is now simple, digital, and instantaneous. It is amazing to think about how we had to rely on a horse rider to travel days just to deliver our mail when we now have planes, cars/trucks, and digital mail. Not only is the medium and speed in which we can use to send our messages or products, but also the quantity is amazing. Every second, an unimaginable number of emails are being sent and received every second. Just the same amount of packages and letters are being shipped and delivered every day compared to the small amount that horses can carry along with a rider. As a business, it was an admirable endeavor to offer the public a service that they needed. Despite going bankrupt, The Pony Express founders were very entrepreneurial to be ... (How will it help me to answer the title?) Problems I had Suggestions for improvements / extension of study Cross section: Done in a group, Primary Data To measure the cross sectional area, we stretched out a tape measure across the river from one side of the bank to the other. Starting at 0cm, we put a metre ruler into the water, ensuring that it touched the ground, and first measured to where the water stopped at the ruler to find the water depth. Then, we measured from the bottom to where the tape was stretched out to find the depth of the channel. We repeated this every 20cm until we got to the other side. This method was done for sites 1 and 2 on 27th June 2016, at about 10:30 am for site 1 (Busketts Lawn) and about 2:30 pm for site 2 (Woodlands). It took us about 20 minutes overall for each site. This method is necessary because it will let me draw up a cross section graph which allows me to find the occupied channel width (a key question), wetted perimeter and hydraulic radius of the river so I can see how this changes as I go downstream. The higher the hydraulic radius the lower the amount of water contacting the bed and banks so the river should be more efficient because it has less friction and water can move at a higher velocity. • 23. Essay on The Sonnet Genre Combining with Figurative Language The Sonnet Genre Combining with Figurative Language Compare how the conventions of the sonnet genre combine with figurative language to create meaning in at least two texts. Originating in Italy, the sonnet was established by Petrarch in the 14th century as a major form of love poetry, and came to be adopted in England in the 16th century (Oxford Literary terms). Overtime there have been different types of sonnets written, for example the Italian (Petrarchan) sonnet, the English (Shakespearean) sonnet and the Spenserian sonnet. Each of these sonnets have there own conventions and use different types of poetic language to help create meaning for the reader. For the purpose of this essay we will look at how the conventions of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A typical rhyme scheme of a Shakespearean sonnet would be that of ABABCDCDEFEFGG. Spenserian sonnets combine both the Shakespearean and Italian forms. Just like the Shakespearean form it uses 3 quatrains followed by a couplet. However the rhyme scheme is like the Italian, linking all stanzas together ABABBCBCCDCDEE. An essential element of all three types of sonnets is that of the volta which is used to signify a change in subject matter, for example in the Italian form the volta normally occurs at the ninth line. The two sonnets I will be examining within this essay predominantly use the conventions of a Shakespearean sonnet. When exploring the conventions of Sonnet 18 we can see it has the typical conventions of a Shakespearean sonnet using three quatrains and a rhyming couplet. The first quatrain establishes the theme of comparing the speaker s beloved with a summer s day, and why it is difficult to do so. The whole of sonnet 18 is used as an extended metaphor, and this is seen from the very beginning: Shall I compare thee to a summers day? Thou art more lovely and more temperate (1 2) The sonnet begins with a metaphoric question, asking if the speaker should compare this person with summer. The speaker then answers by saying she is more lovely and more temperate this combines with the meaning created by the first quatrain immediately giving the reader an idea that the speaker feels his beloved ... However, before strategy came into being, competition has already existed for a long time. With the evolution of life, the first single celled organisms served as nutrition for more complex organisms, whose development over time, lead to a dense network of competitive interactions. Over millions of years, no use of strategies was required, as it was only a matter of natural selection and survival of the fittest (Darwin 1859). Strategic behavior implies the ability of logical reasoning in connection to the ability to forecast possible reactions to undertake relevant actions. The first strategy implemented by human beings was probably the conquest of antagonistic hunting territory. However, as mentioned above, strategic concepts, which include all the elements that make up a strategy according to its definition, were first developed in connection with military operations. The challenges which needed to be mastered were: the uncertainty about the ability and the intention of the enemy, irreversible commitment of limited resources, uncertainty about the control of the situation and the fundamental nature of the mutual perception between the candidates. Given such conditions, it is of course very difficult to formulate an effective strategy. This fact was already illustrated around the year 500 BC when the Chinese general, military strategist and philosopher Sun Tzu said: Everyone can recognize the tactics ... They named one of my main strengths that they saw show up in this verbatim my ability to connect with people on a human level, to make people feel comfortable and at ease in my presence. They saw this in how the patient felt comfortable sharing her struggles concerning her hospital trip, but also about her daughter and her churches. To me, I did not see this as anything special; I thought it was normal and natural to focus not only on what was happening in the hospital, but on the patient s life more broadly I want patients to know that they are more than their present illness, and that their present ... This awareness is not natural, but comes as a result of reflecting both individually and with others. Question 5: Impressions of Clinical Pastoral Education The most significant learning experience I had from CPE was a shift from doing things perfectly, to being a human to another human. When I started CPE, I was fearful I did not know what to do. The scant few days of training and orientation seemed wholly inadequate for the task ahead I was supposed to provide pastoral care? I was supposed to be a chaplain? Suddenly the vocation I had dreamed of doing for so long was before me, and I was terrified of messing it up. The clinical method of learning action, reflection, action seemed outrageous. I am a perfectionist, and I often want to know the exact steps in the procedure; I want to know what to do to achieve optimal results. I was immobilized by fear of failure. Our supervisor jokingly cajoled us with the phrase, Get lost! What started as his best advice to navigating the confusing world of the hospital became advice in a much broader sense. He emphasized that CPE was about getting lost and finding your way through, it was about letting go of a theology of perfection to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 27. The Last Two Decades Have Been Severely Focused On Lincoln 9. Introduction: The last two decades have been severely focused on Lincoln. You can find different views on how the 19th century went, and this book was created to enhance people s understanding of Lincoln and his time. The authors of the separate essays in the book are described in detail, like Mark Neeley who gave new information on the civil liberties during that century and Harold Holzer who describes Lincoln s love for showing his image. 1. Lincoln, Commander In Chief: Abraham Lincoln was unprepared but did everything he could during the time of the Civil War. His only experince of war was the Black Hawk War that occurred in 1824. He mocked his entire military career during one of his speeches to Congress because he felt he didn t make enough change. During his time as Commander in Chief, he learned a lesson on how to deal with military forces when he ordered troops into service. Despite the lack of experience with military, he was a self taught lawyer, master of geometry, and did try to work hard with military stategy. By 1862, he was actually considered a master. Many historians consider him better than any other presidents before him, despite the fact that he was bounded by war. His first document was actually war related. He tried his best even though in the end, he ended up being shot just five days after General Robert. E. Lee surrended at the battle of Appomatox. Lincoln really spent most of his time dealing with war matters than anything. He only left ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Among adult sex offenders, almost 50% report that their first offense occurred during their adolescence. (FBI, 1993) There are many different opinions, treatment options and legislation to manage the growing numbers of juvenile sex offenders. In today s society the psychological and behavioral modification treatments used to manage juvenile sex offenders is also a growing concern. To understand and determine the proposed treatment methods, several related issues will need to be reviewed such as traditional sex offender therapy methods like cognitive therapy and alternative therapies like ... The four boys, who had offered the girl chewing gum, allegedly restrained and sexually assaulted her. The Phoenix police officers called the case, one of the worst they have investigated in many years. The 14 year old was charged as an adult and will face two counts of sexual assault and one count of kidnapping. The other three boys were charged in juvenile court with sexual assault, and two of them also were charged with kidnapping. (Trevino CNN, 2009) Currently, it is estimated that adolescents (ages 13 to 17) account for up to one fifth of all rapes and one half of all cases of child molestation committed each year (Barbaree, Hudson, and Marshall, 1993). Who are Juvenile Sex Offenders? There is a moderate portion of juvenile law violations that are minor; however some young offenders are extremely dangerous and violent. (Caldwell, 2002) Studies have shown that most delinquent behavior stems from some sort of underlining issue or issues in a youth s present or past history. State and county authorities must deal with these offenders while also responding to their personal social problems. This could range from child abuse and neglect, family issues and drug abuse, exposure to pornography and exposure to aggressive role models. • 29. Postmodernism And Modernism Successfully marketing a product is a fundamental component in remaining competitive in the vicious dog eat dog world of business. The rise of postmodernism in society redefined what successful and adaptive marketing looks like and consequently it gave branding a whole new meaning and significance. Postmodernism means different things to different disciplines, yet the general consensus is that it is a contemporary cultural phenomenon (Brown 1996). The postmodern brand model enabled brands to have an identity that connects with its customers by presenting brands in an anthropological view via customer engagement promotions. Hyperreality is one of the most apparent features in all forms of advertising. Common examples of hyperreality advertising include beauty promotions that were touched up with photoshop, products that claim to have outrageous effects (e.g. Redbull gives you wings ), and it is also sold in fantasy video games (League of Legends, Street Fighter, Assassins Creed, etc.). Furthermore, advertising is often clandestinely placed in sporting video games because it s integrated in its culture (adverts on the boards in NHL games, billboards in racing games, etc.) (Kaplan and Haenlein 2009, 565). Hyperreality exists in reality television shows such as Big Brother and Survivor , the participants of the show are aware that they are being perpetually recorded and it alters their regular behavior and mannerisms. Social network communities further perpetuate the existence of hyperreality online as there is over a combined one billion users between just Facebook and Twitter alone. These social networks are then used to communicate with its customers and concurrently encourage consumers to share their brand experiences with each other. Anti foundationalism is the final trait being reviewed, in a marketing context it is about brands and/or advertisementss going against the grain of societal norms. Geico is an example of how anti foundationalism can be enforced successful for a brand s image. Geico, a company that sells car insurance, managed to make it s brand ... • 30. The Conflict Theory Of Social Groups Intergroup Competition is the idea that social groups will extend from the desire for a group to gain the scarce resources that exist (36 40). This idea is greatly supported by the segment on affirmative action in the video (36 40). As said in the movie, the idea is that scholarship money and grant money is a scarce resource when students decide to go to college (37 40). In this view, the individuals who are against affirmative action are competing for that scarce resource (36 40). By using techniques like affirmative action and racial and/or ethnic based scholarships present the subordinate group s strive for power, and the arguments against these resources are the dominant group s attempt to maintain their power (36 40). Moreover, the strive to gain these programs is not just for their own individual self interest, but is for the interest of their social group as a whole to maintain the group s desires (36 40). It is in this belief that s the Realistic Conflict Theory resides (36 40). In this, their exists the view that this conflict for scarce resources subsequently produces prejudice, in which a privileged group has a sense of group position and strives to protect it (36 40). This is shown in the video by the idea of reverse racism, in which the dominant group tries to grain pity for their loss of domination by saying that affirmative action gives African Americans an unfair advantage, thus racially profiling the subordinate group while trying to maintain their ... • 31. The Importance Of Creationism In Schools Creationism does not explain how the earth was created, therefore it should not be taught as a science and should not be taught in schools. My thesis is important, because schools are trying to stop teaching evolution because they believe it is not the way life on earth started. The teaching of evolution in schools is important, because it teaches students the correct reason for how life on earth started. The articles that I collected for my research, where academic journals from the library data base and had a stand point towards science. My paper will give the reader a broader view point on why creationism should not be taught in schools and how evolution should remain in schools. Creationism has been a controversial topic in our school systems and schools in some states are fighting to have it taught instead of evolution as a science. Creationism is the belief that all living organisms originated from a biblical process instead of evolution. We will never really know how the earth was created, but by the use of science, we can get a better understanding of it. Therefore creationism should not be taught as a science and should not be taught in school. The teachers are the people that have to deal with this topic the most because of all the pressure they get from school administrators, parents and the community. Some science teachers have been told not to teach about evolution, but they did it nevertheless. One of the most famous cases was the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Almost all allied force delegates denied accusations to take any part of the blame for the injustices perpetrated during this atrocious time and the events preceding. The Axis forced admitted to their faults, but provided strong reasoning of why the Allies should share the blame. Allied forces denied accusations to take full blame or partial blame for the brutality perpetrated throughout this atrocious time and the events preceding. • 33. Analysis Of Jim Mccormick s Short Story Breaking Through... The two stories Breaking through Uncertainty and Neighbours are both stories about how big the benefits are when risks have been taken. The first short story is about how a skydiver must overcome his own uncertainty, to save himself from certain death. While the other story is still dramatic, just in a different tone; it s about a young woman, who must decide whether or not a friendship is worth standing up for something that s right. The protagonists in both stories, have to take risks, and they re both rewarded for taking those risks; one with his life, and the other with a stronger friendship. Even though the skydiver is risking his life, the protagonist in Neighbours had more gut to do what she had to do, where is the skydiver just let second nature take over. Above all, the protagonists both did experience serious risk taking moments, and they both benefited for the greater good. Breaking Through Uncertainty by Jim McCormick is about how a skydiver is plummeting to his death, and he has got to figure out how to save himself. All the while the skydiver must deal with his self doubt. In paragraph eight, we see actually how much danger the skydiver is in I looked up to assess my canopy and saw something I don t often see; the horizon clearly visible ABOVE the trailing edge of my canopy.
