Analysis Of The Movie Spirited Away And Ponyo
Director Miyazaki illustrated in Spirited Away and Ponyo how love, identity, perseverance, and
adversity can conquer anything. At the beginning of the movies, we see how food and water set
Chihiro, Sosuke, and Ponyo s entire adventures, and the conflict they endure and how they were
perceived in the spirit and human worlds. The spirit world was less tolerant of anything different
whereas the human world was more welcoming; however, they both illustrated the same message
about how people should be more open minded and to be more accepting. An example in Spirited
Away showed how the Spirit world viewed Chihiro as nothing more than just a human being who
came to their world to cause trouble, according to Yubaba; whereas in the human world, Ponyo was
welcomed by Sosuke, even though at the start of the movie, Ponyo was appeared to be a goldfish,
nevertheless she was still welcomed by a human. The narrator showed his audience how difficult it
was for Chihiro in the spirit world, in Spirited Away , but, Ponyo was the opposite in the human world
but she still had adversity. By the contrast of both worlds, Miyazaki is showing his audience how
humans are more accepting of things that are different vs the spirit world which rejects differences.
The storyteller showed a scene in Spirited Away where Yubaba tried to trick Chihiro into choosing her
parents from a group of sprit she had turned into pigs, but it didn t work the way Yubaba wanted it to,
because Chihiro was able

Analysis Of Stopping By Woods On A Snowy Evening
Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening is a poem written by Robert Frost, which, on the surface,
appears to be a simple poem about a traveler on the darkest night of the year, who stops to observe a
forest in the middle of a winter storm. In reality, one can interpret a much deeper meaning from this
poem. This poem could be understood to be about facing one s responsibilities and fears in order to
make the most of life before death. The speaker in this poem is contemplating between choosing to die
or to face the obstacles of life. Through the use of literary devices such as alliteration, rhythm, and
imagery, Frost stresses the importance of coming to terms with facing fears and dealing with
responsibilities. Robert Frost uses alliteration in the poem to emphasize the key elements of his
sentences. With his use of alliteration, every line has a different connotation associated with different
emotions that the speaker may feel. At the start of the poem, Frost s words flow smoothly, which
emphasizes the absentmindedness of the speaker as they stand before the forest. Although, when Frost
writes gives his harness bells a shake / to ask if there is some mistake (Frost, 9), he employs the harsh
use of the letter k as a reminder of the speaker s responsibilities. The switch between the uses of
flowing, smooth words to the use of alliteration of the letter k serves as a method to show the reader
that the speaker has had a sudden realization about the demands of the real world. The use of softer
sounding consonants has also been incorporated in order to set the scene for the reader. The speaker is
trekking in a winter storm and stops to observe nature, which is shown through the repetitive use of
the consonant s as well as w , which are letters that sound like the wind in a storm. For instance, when
Frost writes, The only other sound s the sweep (Frost, 11), the soft sounding letters reminds the reader
of a winter storm which serves as a way for the reader to emerge themselves into the poem and to feel
as though, they too, are in a snowstorm. By allowing the reader to imagine the scenery in the storm, it
puts into perspective the difficulty the speaker must have been having between choosing to give

Instruction Methods For Teaching Decisions
I honestly thought that this lesson was going to be taught to teach to the class. I spent countless hours
reading the information in the curriculum handbook and even collaborating with other teachers just to
understand the material properly. I was thoroughly surprised at how well the lesson was received and
it greatly boosted my self confidence in my planning and teaching decisions. This lesson was all about
symmetry and dividing crazy cakes evenly between two people by looking for smaller shapes within
the larger shape. The shapes of the cakes literally were crazy because they were not shaped like your
normal cake. There were many different angles and sides, because of this each student had to really sit
and visualize what other shapes were inside the cake. I feel that my instruction methods worked great
for this lesson. I followed the plan given to me by the curriculum book by talking about the activity
first then letting the students work together in groups to divide the cakes as best as possible. I thought
it would be beneficial to let students come up to the board and practice with dividing the cakes before
letting them work with their groups. I think that by allowing a few of them to show their initial
thought process allowed others to see how they could divide their cakes as well. I then gave direct
instructions on how we were to transition to our tables and begin working on their crazy cakes. The
classroom has been struggling lately with transitions, so I was very

Flowers In Chronicle Of A Death Foretold
The significance of flowers in Gabriel Garcia Marquez s Chronicle of a Death Foretold
By: Sargun Bhatia
Total words: 1445
Gabriel Garcia Marquez s 1981 novella, Chronicle of a Death Foretold, is an investigation into the
murder of Santiago Nasar through the lens of a Columbian community. It acts as a broader
commentary on the obligations to virtue, duty and honour at the expense of meaningful relationships
and rational decision making. This essay will explore how Marquez uses flowers to represent the high
standards expected of them that simultaneously result in justification for their objectification. Flowers
are also used to mask and disguise the hollow and often onerous expectations to uphold flawed beliefs
on virtue, religion and duty. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This dehumanisation while firstly seems justifiable to lessen the emotional burden, is alarming when
considering that women are also given the names of flowers and treated as much. The euphoric
imagery and naming associated with these women while seem flattering, in fact objectify them. Such
is symptomatic of the role they play within society, where their aesthetics and frailty are commodities
that are circumvented by wayward behaviour. The very positioning in the Vicario household of the
flowerpots next to the pigsty, with its sacrificial stone and disembowelling table , encourages
comparison between the aesthetic, resplendent women and the pigs. The alliteration draws attention to
the role of the women and pigs as sacrifices to honour duty and appetite (not limited to the pigs),
which pre empt the grotesque imagery and reality enforced by the disembowelling table where the
victims are literally torn apart yet are a good source of domestic income . In this way, Marquez uses
flowers to compare defenceless pigs ready for the slaughter to women ready to be married. Pigs and
women are used as currency to service society, where flowers symbolise the expectations of women to
be virtuous and delicate whilst simultaneously

The Costly Damage of Flooding
Floods are the most costly and damaging natural disaster in the world (Berz, 2000). The determination
of streamflow (stage or discharge) at a river station plays an important role in environmental and water
resources management. Flood routing, a basis for flood forecasting, is the process of determining
progressively the timing and shape of a flood wave at successive points along a river reach.
Approaches for flood routing have been based either on hydraulic (process approach) or hydrologic
(conceptual or system approach). Hydrologic stream routing is based on the storage concept, and
conversely, hydraulic channel routing is based on the principles of mass and momentum conservation.
In predicting a particular hydrograph on its passage through a river reach, any flood modeling will
involve a number of assumptions and simplifications. For many rivers, topographic information
neither exit nor are readily available and consequently the use of dynamic models has some limitations
(Barati, 2013). In addition, a close match between the observed flow rates and the computed ones is
difficult to achieve with such techniques if some parameters used along a reach are not accurate.
While high demands on computer resources, as well as on the quantity and quality of input data,
restrict the efficiency of hydraulic models in practical applications, approximate models produce
satisfactory results at considerably less expense with a limitation in their generality and accuracy
depending on the

Andrew Hawkins Influence On Christmas
Christmas came early for this Cleveland College. Andrew Hawkins and the Cleveland Browns visited
the Cleveland College preparatory school with Christmas presents.
For Andrew Hawkins, he remembered how tough it was when he was a young boy. He decided that it
should not be that way for these kids. He recalls being raised by his mother with other kids in the
house. He details how his mom put all of them through private schools, as reported by Pro Football
Weekly.
According to Andrew Hawkins, his mom would work on Christmas eve to make ends meet, as
reported by the Cleveland Browns. For this football player, Christmases were not always the best as
she wanted them to be for her kids. But Hawkins recalls one time when an organization knocked on

Analysis Of Radha Krishna s Lovers Under A Futon By...
Romantic love remains one of the most importance themes in virtually all cultures art; in Japanese and
Indian art, although with different historical contexts and therefore interpretations, continues to be no
exception. Kitigawa Utamaro prevailed as one of the most important artists under the ukiyo e genres,
focusing on the beauty of women in the hedonistic and rigidly organized Tokugawa period as it
enjoyed stability the island yearned for. Of an unknown artist of the Rajasthani school in neighboring
Madhya Pradesh, foreign powers from the Mughal Empire to the Portuguese slowly encroached in
India, yet managed to maintain its traditions in Radha Krishna in its epic romance in Jayadeva s Gita
Govinda. In Utamaro s Lovers under a Futon ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The print portrays a man and a woman under a futon, assumedly intimately. The soft colors of pink
and green of their clothes and of the mattress on them further affirm the softness of the piece; they are
lovers. Although the man s attire contrasts with that of the woman, it is difficult to discern where their
bodies apart. Just like how the futon is both green and pink like the man and woman s robes
respectively, the piece is supposed to indicate a romantic union between the two. The patterns on the
futon and robe help add dimension to the print, which would later be reprinted for the consumption of
the merchant class in the Tokugawa period. It is particularly important to note how Utamaro portrays
the woman; women by Utamaro not only had an idealized form with slender features, but she barely
resembles the common woman of the period with her impossible proportions. In direct contrast with
the realism movement and their aspiration in portraying people the way they truly are, Utamaro s
depiction of women and romance are dreamily hedonistic just like many Vogue editorials. Lovers
under a Futon is truly romantic, with a sense of equality between the two people; she is not there to
serve him or vice versa. Instead, the couple is both enjoying

Theme Of Passage To India
A Passage to India
A Passage to India by E. M. Forster is a Modernist novel which highlights the complex inner life of its
characters using complicated plots and recurring symbols and images. Foster questions the conformist
approaches of representing reality: he reiterates that whatever people call reality is an indefinable
commodity. E. K. Brown, a renowned American critic, points out that the main idea of A passage to
India is the chasm between the world of actions and the world of being (Mitra 5). Hence, the novel is
not simply a piece of anti colonial fiction: it is modern classic too, one that is as relevant in the present
times as it was in the pre colonial times. In this paper, we analyze the nature of the different realities
presented in A Passage to India . Further, we discuss the ways the treatment of this subject both
contributes to the development of the central themes of the novel and ... Show more content on

Massood passed on in 1923, at a time when Forster was writing the novel. Inevitably, Forster s

Design and Industrial Revolution
What is Design?
Q1. What was the industrial revolution? When did it occur? How did industrialisation lead to the
creation of the design profession? How was the industrial manufacturing of making products new and
what role did the designer play in creating new products?
The industrial revolution was a movement that began in mainly in England and Germany during the
18th 19th century. It then spread throughout the world. The industrial revolution introduced the notion
of function, ergonomics, and the use of modern materials. Designers had to think of new ways to
create objects with the use of modern industrial materials in a cheaper and more efficient manner.

Identifying Lyme Disease
Lyme disease can sometimes be difficult to diagnose as standard blood tests may give a false negative
result. The bloodwork used to diagnose Lyme disease relies on the antibodies that the body makes in
response to infection with Borrelia. It often takes a few weeks for a person s body to generate enough
antibodies to show up on a blood test, however, time is crucial in the treatment in the treatment of
Lyme disease. Additionally, many symptoms of Lyme disease coincide with those of other issues and
it may be difficult to differentiate between possible diseases and conditions. Thankfully, there is a
better two step method to identify Lyme disease. The first test is called an enzyme linked
immunosorbent assay or ELISA, which is a sensitive test that examines antibodies in the body, but not
specifically those related to Borrelia. If the results are positive or inconclusive, continue on to the
second test. The second test is the Western Blot, which is a specific test that is used after positive or
inconclusive results from ELISA. A positive WB test after a positive or inconclusive ELISA test result
in a diagnosis of Lyme disease. A negative in either test results in a negative diagnosis.3

Transformational Journey In The Alchemist
What is a goal? A goal is something you try to achieve in your everyday life. In The Alchemist Paul
Coelho writes about a boy named Santiago who strives and follows his goals in finding his hidden
treasure, but along the way he discovers that the word treasure may have more than one meaning. In
The alchemist the book uses the symbols of sheep, dessert, alchemy, and treasure to explore the theme
that people must follow their own dreams and overcome obstacles in order to achieve there goals and
gain wisdom.
In the first half of the novel the author uses the symbol of the sheep to show that people live their lives
the same way everyday, like Santiago did when he was a shepherd. This helps symbolizes that people
need to take a break from living the same way everyday, and start living. For example, in the Book

The Human Nervous System Essay
The Human Nervous System
The nervous system is the most complex part of the body, as they govern our thoughts, feelings, and
bodily functions. It is an important factor in science because it can lead to new discoveries for cures or
diseases. The studies of the nervous system helped lower death rates from heart disease, stroke,
accidents, etc. The nervous system is a network of neurons (nerve cells that sends information to the
brain to be analyzed.
Neurons live both in and outside the central nervous system. Understanding how the neurons work is
vital to understanding the nervous system.
The neuron has two important structures called the dendrite and axon, also called nerve fibers. The
dendrites are like tentacles that sprout ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The impulse is then sent to another neuron, and the process repeats until the nerves are at rest. The
effect of the signals depends on what the target is. If the target of the signal is a muscle cell, the effect
might be a muscle contraction. The speed of the electrical impulse depends on the size of the nerve
fiber. In small nerves, the rate it transmits impulses is from a half to two meters a second. The larger
the diameter of the nerve fiber, the higher rate of conducting impulses. There is less electrical
resistance in thick fibers. When nerve impulse jumps from one node (gaps in nerve fibers) to the next,
it is called saltatory conduction. Saltatory conduction conducts faster because it contains an insulator
that prevents leakage of currents. The rate of conduction is 2 to 120 meters a second. Not all nerves
conduct impulse electrochemically. Some impulses jump from nerve to nerve, bypassing the synapse.
Unlike other cells, once neurons are lost, they can t be regenerated. Fortunately, there are about 10
billion neurons and they have other cells to aid them in carrying messages to other nerves. But if
nerves are severed, the nerve fibers can regenerate if the two ends are reattached precisely. However,
restored functions may produce different actions because the nerves might not be connected to the
right channel.
There are three main parts of the nervous system: the central, peripheral, and autonomic

Complexity Of Cult
To understand the complexity of a cult a person must first understand the meaning of what that word

worship or ritual. But if you take this definition literally then a Christian would be insulted. Just
because a person follows God or a god does not mean they are in a cult. Nevertheless, the word cult
has few different meanings. The structure of a cult has varied differences but the goal is the same. AS

Health Information Exchange ( Hie )
Health Information Exchange (HIE) is an electronic way for health care providers, patients, and
payers to access and securely share medical information. There are data breaches everyday so patient
and providers are concerned about the privacy and security of the HIE. Patients fear that sensitive
health information related to dire diseases will be disclosed and used against them in decisions related
to health insurance coverage or employment according to Mertz (2009, p.1). Providers are concerned
that they will be breaking some health privacy laws of different states if they use a HIE. However, in
essence as long as the HIE is following the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act
(HIPPA) Privacy and Security Rules then the provider and patients should be safe. This is because
HIPPA regulates covered entities such as healthcare providers, health insurers, healthcare clearing
houses. They all must follow HIPPA regulations when accessing, using and disclosing your medical
information.
One main privacy and security concern when talking about a health information exchange is patient
matching. Patient matching is used to match patients to medical records that come from multiple
healthcare providers. According to Godlove and Ball there are two key elements to the use of HIE,
The first is confirming that the requesting and responding HIOs patients are one and the same. The
second is confirming that the patient has consented to the exchange of the health information

Henry V Film Analysis
1. What are the principal differences between the two film versions of Shakespeare s Henry V in terms
of plot? How do these differences advance the plot of the particular films?
While both films follow the plot of the original play, there are several key differences in what each
film focuses on. For Kenneth Branagh s Henry V, the core of the story is Henry s growth as a man, and
his rejection of the immaturity of youth for the maturity of kingship. Thus, Henry s drinking friends
and their fractured relationship with the new king take up a significant portion of screen time, leading
up to the heartbreaking execution of Bardolph on Henry s orders. A quite literal death of childhood
and adolescence, but a necessary one. But the drunken peasants aren t the only influence on Branagh s
Henry; the English church also plays a crucial role in the young king s development. From the very
beginning, the church sways and manipulates the inexperienced Henry into going to war, with the
clergymen being framed as devils on his shoulder during the court scene. Bardolph s execution is even
ordered for his crimes against the church. For Branagh, the plot is driven by Henry s battle between
these influences and the choices he makes for his country. By contrast, Olivier s Henry V is a
triumphant romp, with a greater focus on comedy and the triumph of England. The scene of the
clergyman telling Henry of the Salic law is silly, with the assistant dropping the scrolls and forgetting
the names of the distant monarchs. This also continues with the depiction of the French nobility as
buffoonish, unthreatening ponces, and the many scenes of peasants goofing around outside of battle.
In this rendition, Henry seems even more regal than other versions, with more emphasis on his
victorious battles and rousing battle speeches. His conflict with his old friends is extremely
downplayed, and nearly all the references to treachery within the court are removed. Instead of a
character study of a conflicted young man, this Henry V is a story of noble England and their
righteous victory against the French; a simplistic tale of good triumphing over evil.

My Memories
One of my earliest memories, as a young child growing up in the 1960s and 1970s, was the visits to
my Nan s home in south Ealing, west London.
My family had moved from London to live in the seaside town of Weston super Mare in the mid
1960s. We had travelled to Weston by steam train but on returning to London for a visit, by the end of
the 1960s, the coal eating steam trains were out and the odorous smell of diesel trains were in.
The same steam engine carriages were still in use and were made up of individual compartments; my
family of nine took up an entire compartment.
Nan s food larder was always well stocked for our visits; filled with goodies like Spam, corned beef,
Piccalilli etc. At Nan s house, unlike at home, I got the opportunity of sampling such delicacies like
Spamish omelette and Spam fritters. Sounds exotic? Yes, to me they were. I love Piccalilli; it s the
kind of stuff that never entered my home back in the 1960s, too weird, too foreign. Whenever I see
Piccalilli it always reminds me of Nan.
My large family would have been pretty boisterous and quite a handful for a woman, who normally
lived on her own, to put up with; an invasion of bodies filling every room of her Victorian terraced
house.
I loved my Nan s cooking; it was tasty and wholesome, definitely much more delicious than the
offerings at home. Besides the great British favourites, like Spam and corned beef, I think the food I
experienced in London was exotic because it was diverse and

The Relationship Between Print And Digital Reading Essay
Printed and Digital
Analyzing some aspects of the relationship between print and digital reading. A first essential aspect:
more than indicating the substitution of texts printed by the digital ones, the readers of our universe of
research coexistence of these two formats (Dourish Mazmanian, 2013). There is no disjunction, for the
readers that would take the form of reading in print or digital, reading in one or the other; is verified in
the practice that readers read both. This reading in both must be nuanced, as it is not a matter of
reading everything in print and digital, regardless. Some interesting relationships are drawn. First, text
size influences support preferences (Mollen, 2016). Texts large ones are preferably read in print; texts
can be read in such a way that both in print and in digital.
The type of text is also relevant. More serious consumption texts (work and study, notably) tend to
lead to print, from fun to digital. These first two factors, size and type of text, should be articulated
with whether it is a full text or an excerpt (a chapter, for example, for Study): complete text points to
printed matter. Crossing the three elements, an ideal type of text, which would tend to be consumed in
print. At the other extreme, second type Ideal, we have a small text section and fun, which would tend
to digital. The Crosses of these elements can give rise to a continuous range of possibilities. Access to
text is also important. On the other hand, there are

highlighted some key differences in their phenotypes based on their home environment. The third
force is genetic drift. Genetic drift is where specific alleles appear and others fade away purely by
chance. Over time, these changes have large effects over populations. The fourth force is gene flow.

slow down or increase the growth of these prokaryotes. When testing this certain type of bacteria the
warm temperature caused it to grow exceptionally fast comparted to the room temperature. Bacteria
are single celled microbes. The cell structure is simpler than that of other organisms as there is no

The data provided by the table supports the hypothesis; therefore the hypothesis can be accepted. The
hypothesis states that the untreated hand is the one that contained larger amount of bacteria grown.
The reason this is true is because bacteria can be found in environments that are unclean or untreated.
In addition, agar is made from subunits of galactose that contain cell walls from other species such as
the red algae. For this reason the agar plate is commonly used for culturing bacteria is since the
bacteria doesn t eat up the plate instead they grow rapidly on there. The table reflects the results of the
class reinforcing the theory that a treated hand will contain less bacteria than that of an unwashed
hand. A few numbers collected proved the opposite where the treated had more bacteria than the
unwashed hand. Although most of the data correlated to the hypothesis, some were not because of
many unknown factors such as not swiping correctly, or the student swiped too fast not leaving behind
enough bacteria to be delivered to the agar plate or during the hand washing there was not specific
way of washing them. When I plugged in my data the results did not match with the majority of the
class because there were very few bacteria colonies in my untreated and many more on the treated
hand; again, there are many reasons why the experiment did not turn out the way the hypothesis was
originally planned. However my results did not match the hypothesis, I still agree with the original

Settlement House Movement
One important characteristic of the Settlement House Movement is that they wanted to reform existing
social policy and offer services that would help the poor to shake the bonds of poverty and enjoy a
better quality of life. Thus, settlement workers saw the need for a dramatic change in social, health and
reactional services that were offered in slum areas in the large cities (Heinonen and Spearman, 2010,
p. 15). Moreover, the settlement house workers believed that problems people faced were due to
deficiencies of the social structure; not due to character flaw (Course Lecture Notes, PowerPoint
Chapter 2). Contrary to the Settlement House Movement was the Charity Organization Society. The
settlement house movement went against the beliefs of the Charity Organization Society because they
believed that charity was a form of social control.
The Settlement House Movement began in the early 1800s and was a changing force in social policy
and led to the further development of social work. The Settlement House Movement greatly influences
present day social work practice because it provided a premise for what ... Show more content on

Is this an abused woman trying to leave her abuser, a child with an eating disorder or a low income

will never seize the moment to make a decision for themselves because they will be unable to
determine the perfect opportunity. As Heinonen and Spearman (2010) illustrate, this creates an issue
where some clients want decisions made for them. Thus, dealing with a client who lacks self
determining skills is difficult because they want to guidance from a social worker, but as a social
worker you understand that building the skills to make decisions is essential to overcome problems in

Wet Beaver Creek Argumentative Essay
Wet Beaver Creek offers great views of Sedona s red rocks, cliff jumping for the adrenaline junky, and
prime creek side real estate for the observer.
The foot traffic can be a bit much, but it s still one of my favorite day hikes to share with others, both
Arizona natives and visitors alike. And when Arizona temps reach 100 degrees, it offers an escape to
Sedona s refreshing creeks and cooler weather.
Like I said earlier though, there s a lot of foot traffic and a lot of unprepared folks on the trail. I
remember stopping three times to give people water. Three groups who hadn t prepared for the trail
adequately. That s when I realized people could use a day hike essentials checklist, big time, whether

Clothing
It s best not to rely wholeheartedly on your smartphone apps. The smarter solution is to pack for
unforeseen circumstances and weather. I always hike with a comfortable pair of socks, a wicking fiber
shirt, and a backup shell in case of rain.
And yes, I hike in sunny Arizona, but weather snaps here on the trails like most any ridge or mountain.
Make sure your hiking clothing will keep you safe and uncompromised in the elements.
8. Sunscreen
We all burn. Some more easily than others, but the sun has it s way with us all in the end. Don t come
home with an embarrassing sunburn. I prefer SPF 35, but the most important number is one. Bring at
least one bottle of sunscreen and apply before you hit the hiking trail.
Seasoned day hikers know the importance of sunscreen and protecting their skin from excess rays.
9. Post hike Shoes
There s nothing quite like the feeling of kicking off your shoes after a long day of work. Multiply that
feeling by a million after you ve gone hiking. I normally have my Chacos waiting for me in the car,
but some normal flip flops or sneakers should do.
You might even check out some of the GORE TEX® SURROUND® casual shoes as a great post hike

No Escape Orientalism
I want to research whether portrayals of Orientalism in the media are used to retroactively justify
decisions such as imperialism or the Vietnam War. I chose this topic because I found Edward Said s
theory of Orientalism very thought provoking and wondered if it can apply to contemporary society.
In addition to that, I have not seen a lot of contemporary analysis on Orientalism of Southeast Asia.
My initial inspiration was when I watched the film No Escape, which seemed blatantly racist and
problematic. I narrowed and refined my topic by further researching the concepts of Orientalism and
otherness, and considered how they could be applied to this film. Sources that have been key in
defining my research topic include scholar articles on Orientalism ... Show more content on

I found it interesting that the film never specified the exact setting and only referred to it as a
Southeast Asian country. I thought that that this conflated all Southeast Asian countries and classified
them as the other. However, upon further research, I discovered that No Escape was inspired by an
insurrection in Thailand (Chang). Dowdle chose not to identify the setting in order to honor the
request of the Thai government (de Souza). To comply with the Thai government, Dowdle also had to
avoid using the Thai language, the color yellow because it is associated with the king, and depictions
of the Buddha (de Souza). In addition to that, Dowdle claimed that it was actually an anti
interventionist message because the rebellion arose from American exploitation of Southeast Asian
resources, notably the water manufacturing company that Jack Dwyer works for (de Souza). However,
I think that this message falls short due to the portrayal of the Southeast Asian rebels as relentlessly
violent, dehumanized killers. This particularly reminded me of Orientalism, which argues that the
West reduces foreign countries such as those in Southeast Asia to primitive, broad stereotypes in order
to establish the West as superior to them (Said). In the past, this idea has been used to justify Western
imperialism because it falsely framed imperialism as helping civilize a less advanced

Russian Revolutions Changed The Fabric Of Russia
In 1917, two revolutions completely changed the fabric of Russia. First, the February Russian
Revolution ousted the Russian monarchy and established a Provisional Government. Then in October,
a second revolution placed the Bolsheviks as the leaders of Russia, culminating the creation of the
world s first communist country (Rosenburg 2009). The revolution made the Russian literary language
the heritage of the entire nation (Artyukov 2013). This allowed for nations all over the world to access
the Russian literary language. It is currently the largest native language in Europe and one of the six
official languages of the United Nations. The Russian Revolution started a movement that allowed the

Essay about Social Psychology and Cults
A cult is defined as a social group or a social movement under one charismatic leader. It maintains a
belief system, which includes a transformation of a group member. Members of the group have a high
level of commitment to the leader, members, and beliefs (Lalich). An additional definition to consider
is from the American Journal of Psychotherapy:
...groups that often exploit members psychologically and/or financially, typically by making members
comply with leadership s demands through certain types of psychological manipulation, popularly
called mind control, and through the inculcation of deep seated anxious dependency on the group and
its leaders (Salande, and Perkins 382).

The second factor is the outcome. People in cults often come out of the group in a worse position than
when they first joined the cult. They could be worse off financially, psychologically, or relationally to
give a few examples. More times than not, people in groups that are not considered cults do not
produce the effects listed above. Instead, members of these groups report that they improve as a
person in some way (Salande, and Perkins 382, 383). Cults can be differentiated from other groups
because of the methods that cults use, and the effect that cults can have on its members.
Cults can be classified as destructive, considering the methods used and how membership affects
individuals. According to the International Cultic Studies Association or ICSA, cults can be
considered destructive to its members. Reports form former cult member s reveals that they have
trouble trusting others, problems forming and maintaining relationships, and feel disconnected with
the world. In addition, former cult members report being diagnosed with depression and Post
Traumatic Stress Disorder or PTSD often having flashbacks of events that occurred while they were in
the cult. Finally, it is important to mention that cults also cause injuries or death. Considering these
reports cults can be classified as destructive because members may have a difficult time adjusting to
life outside the cult, difficulties in living life

Bacchus And The Pieta By Michelangelo
Because of his genius, the work of art was chosen as the symbol of the Republic of Florence. It was
carved in a huge block of marble that remained abandoned for more than forty years after suffering
damage just in its basis in a previous attempt (Michelangelo took advantage of that just creating an
empty espace between Davi s feet). Several artists had fought for the honor of doing that, including
Leonardo da Vinci and Andrea Sansovino. Michelangelo was responsible for the task due to its already
established reputation for brilliant sculptor because of his Bacchus and the Pieta. Michelangelo got
one of the most beautiful representations of the human body in the history of art. The sculpture
represents a colossal teenager, 16.9 feet in height.

Essay about The Divided Self Commentary
The Divided Self by R. D. Laing Commentary In The Divided Self , Laing examines schizoid and
schizophrenic people and attempts to make their situation more understandable in existential terms. In
order to understand Laing s work, a person must first understand the concept of existential
phenomenology, in which a person is characterized by his way of being in the world. It involves the
way he reacts to his environment and himself as a part of his world. It must also be mentioned that a
person can not interact with the world, without having relatedness to others in the world. Part One
Laing begins by stating that a schizoid is one that is divided into different parts, between himself and

The psychiatrist s personal opinions regarding the patient are not important, and so therefore it s best
that a professional manner when dealing with patients is taken. Looking at an example of one of
Kraepelin s patients who was showing signs of catatonic excitement, we come back to the picture of
the vase or two faces. Depending on which way this behaviour is viewed; it is possible to see that
either this was simply another sign of his disease, or that he wanted to confirm his own existence,
rather than being treated and tested as an object. It is impossible not to impose out own interpretations
of the patient s actions, no matter if one tries to be more objective, to see more signs of disease, or to
view his actions as a movement of muscles. Once the psychiatrist has developed a relationship with
the patient, it is impossible to be entirely neutral. The way the patient and his actions are interpreted is
a key component. Clinical psychiatry can be compared to the analysis of ancient documents, in the
sense that instead of formally analyzing the structure, style and other linguistic traits, the patient s
speech and behaviour is closely scrutinized. By knowing the patient s history, as with early
documents, it may be easier to understand the patient s position, and therefore allow the psychiatrist

Taiping Rebellion Research Paper
December of 1850 to 1864 gave us an event that has been lost in time, yet this extraordinary event
took the lives of over 20,000,000 Chinese people, more casualties than any other world event except
WWII. This event was called the Taiping Rebellion, it was started by Hong Xiuquan an educated man
in the southern province of Guangxi, in a time when China was a weak point after the end of the first
Opium War. During this time of uncertainty the Qing Dynasty was on the edge of collapsing, six
decades before it actually did fall. Many events attributed the start, continuation and end of this so
called civil war.

Was The Boston Massacre A Massacre
On March 5, 1770, indignant Boston colonists assembled on King Street, rocketing snowballs and
launching stones at the British soldiers stationed in the English city. The rebels heckled the troops,
threatening them with weapons and ominous declarations, inducing defensive military action by the
British, leading to the deaths of five colonial rebels...Let s try that again.
On March 5, 1770, passionate Boston colonists gathered on King Street to discuss the inequitable,
prejudiced taxes enacted by their tyrannical mother country. The British soldiers embarked on a fervid
rampage, terrorizing the colonial people with hostile words and menacing attacks. The altercation
ended with innocent colonists splattered on the icy ground, the pure snow now stained with burgundy
blood, their frosty bodies pierced with lethal bullets, their brisk breaths reduced to clouds of death...
Much better.
If you were educated in the United States of America, you know the Boston Massacre as the
slaughtering of innocent Patriots fighting for liberty, for justice, for freedom. Yet if you are British, the
Boston Massacre is an irrelevant event in your Civil War. The victors dictate history, therefore,
perspective is skewed and history is fabricated. Because of historical inaccuracy, you were probably
unaware that the Boston Massacre was not a massacre at all; it became a massacre through
propaganda, specifically, Paul Revere s engraving, The Bloody Massacre Perpetrated in King Street

Temperance And Prohibition Propaganda
Religion was the main reason behind Temperance and Prohibition movement. The Second Great

The 18th amendment was ratified on January 29,1919. The amendment went into effect about a year

Volstead of Mississippi as the Volstead Act . Even after President Woodrow Willison veto, the

Treasury Department/ Internal Revenue Service IRS for the enforcement of the Volstead Act using
Prohibition agents employed through the IRS. It was eventually transferred to the Justice Department.
Most of the enforcers could be bribed by the bootleggers. The government had fewer than 1,600 low

prohibition was mixed. Less than one hour after prohibition took effect six gunmen hijacked a train in
Chicago and stole over $100,000 worth of whiskey that was marked for medicinal use . Prohibition
led to organized crime. speakeasies, bootleggers, bathtub gin, and a national wildness called the

  • 2. Analysis Of The Movie Spirited Away And Ponyo Director Miyazaki illustrated in Spirited Away and Ponyo how love, identity, perseverance, and adversity can conquer anything. At the beginning of the movies, we see how food and water set Chihiro, Sosuke, and Ponyo s entire adventures, and the conflict they endure and how they were perceived in the spirit and human worlds. The spirit world was less tolerant of anything different whereas the human world was more welcoming; however, they both illustrated the same message about how people should be more open minded and to be more accepting. An example in Spirited Away showed how the Spirit world viewed Chihiro as nothing more than just a human being who came to their world to cause trouble, according to Yubaba; whereas in the human world, Ponyo was welcomed by Sosuke, even though at the start of the movie, Ponyo was appeared to be a goldfish, nevertheless she was still welcomed by a human. The narrator showed his audience how difficult it was for Chihiro in the spirit world, in Spirited Away , but, Ponyo was the opposite in the human world but she still had adversity. By the contrast of both worlds, Miyazaki is showing his audience how humans are more accepting of things that are different vs the spirit world which rejects differences. The storyteller showed a scene in Spirited Away where Yubaba tried to trick Chihiro into choosing her parents from a group of sprit she had turned into pigs, but it didn t work the way Yubaba wanted it to, because Chihiro was able ... • 3. Analysis Of Stopping By Woods On A Snowy Evening Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening is a poem written by Robert Frost, which, on the surface, appears to be a simple poem about a traveler on the darkest night of the year, who stops to observe a forest in the middle of a winter storm. In reality, one can interpret a much deeper meaning from this poem. This poem could be understood to be about facing one s responsibilities and fears in order to make the most of life before death. The speaker in this poem is contemplating between choosing to die or to face the obstacles of life. Through the use of literary devices such as alliteration, rhythm, and imagery, Frost stresses the importance of coming to terms with facing fears and dealing with responsibilities. Robert Frost uses alliteration in the poem to emphasize the key elements of his sentences. With his use of alliteration, every line has a different connotation associated with different emotions that the speaker may feel. At the start of the poem, Frost s words flow smoothly, which emphasizes the absentmindedness of the speaker as they stand before the forest. Although, when Frost writes gives his harness bells a shake / to ask if there is some mistake (Frost, 9), he employs the harsh use of the letter k as a reminder of the speaker s responsibilities. The switch between the uses of flowing, smooth words to the use of alliteration of the letter k serves as a method to show the reader that the speaker has had a sudden realization about the demands of the real world. The use of softer sounding consonants has also been incorporated in order to set the scene for the reader. The speaker is trekking in a winter storm and stops to observe nature, which is shown through the repetitive use of the consonant s as well as w , which are letters that sound like the wind in a storm. For instance, when Frost writes, The only other sound s the sweep (Frost, 11), the soft sounding letters reminds the reader of a winter storm which serves as a way for the reader to emerge themselves into the poem and to feel as though, they too, are in a snowstorm. By allowing the reader to imagine the scenery in the storm, it puts into perspective the difficulty the speaker must have been having between choosing to give ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Instruction Methods For Teaching Decisions I honestly thought that this lesson was going to be taught to teach to the class. I spent countless hours reading the information in the curriculum handbook and even collaborating with other teachers just to understand the material properly. I was thoroughly surprised at how well the lesson was received and it greatly boosted my self confidence in my planning and teaching decisions. This lesson was all about symmetry and dividing crazy cakes evenly between two people by looking for smaller shapes within the larger shape. The shapes of the cakes literally were crazy because they were not shaped like your normal cake. There were many different angles and sides, because of this each student had to really sit and visualize what other shapes were inside the cake. I feel that my instruction methods worked great for this lesson. I followed the plan given to me by the curriculum book by talking about the activity first then letting the students work together in groups to divide the cakes as best as possible. I thought it would be beneficial to let students come up to the board and practice with dividing the cakes before letting them work with their groups. I think that by allowing a few of them to show their initial thought process allowed others to see how they could divide their cakes as well. I then gave direct instructions on how we were to transition to our tables and begin working on their crazy cakes. The classroom has been struggling lately with transitions, so I was very ... • 5. Flowers In Chronicle Of A Death Foretold The significance of flowers in Gabriel Garcia Marquez s Chronicle of a Death Foretold By: Sargun Bhatia Total words: 1445 Gabriel Garcia Marquez s 1981 novella, Chronicle of a Death Foretold, is an investigation into the murder of Santiago Nasar through the lens of a Columbian community. It acts as a broader commentary on the obligations to virtue, duty and honour at the expense of meaningful relationships and rational decision making. This essay will explore how Marquez uses flowers to represent the high standards expected of them that simultaneously result in justification for their objectification. Flowers are also used to mask and disguise the hollow and often onerous expectations to uphold flawed beliefs on virtue, religion and duty. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This dehumanisation while firstly seems justifiable to lessen the emotional burden, is alarming when considering that women are also given the names of flowers and treated as much. The euphoric imagery and naming associated with these women while seem flattering, in fact objectify them. Such is symptomatic of the role they play within society, where their aesthetics and frailty are commodities that are circumvented by wayward behaviour. The very positioning in the Vicario household of the flowerpots next to the pigsty, with its sacrificial stone and disembowelling table , encourages comparison between the aesthetic, resplendent women and the pigs. The alliteration draws attention to the role of the women and pigs as sacrifices to honour duty and appetite (not limited to the pigs), which pre empt the grotesque imagery and reality enforced by the disembowelling table where the victims are literally torn apart yet are a good source of domestic income . In this way, Marquez uses flowers to compare defenceless pigs ready for the slaughter to women ready to be married. Pigs and women are used as currency to service society, where flowers symbolise the expectations of women to be virtuous and delicate whilst simultaneously ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. The Costly Damage of Flooding Floods are the most costly and damaging natural disaster in the world (Berz, 2000). The determination of streamflow (stage or discharge) at a river station plays an important role in environmental and water resources management. Flood routing, a basis for flood forecasting, is the process of determining progressively the timing and shape of a flood wave at successive points along a river reach. Approaches for flood routing have been based either on hydraulic (process approach) or hydrologic (conceptual or system approach). Hydrologic stream routing is based on the storage concept, and conversely, hydraulic channel routing is based on the principles of mass and momentum conservation. In predicting a particular hydrograph on its passage through a river reach, any flood modeling will involve a number of assumptions and simplifications. For many rivers, topographic information neither exit nor are readily available and consequently the use of dynamic models has some limitations (Barati, 2013). In addition, a close match between the observed flow rates and the computed ones is difficult to achieve with such techniques if some parameters used along a reach are not accurate. While high demands on computer resources, as well as on the quantity and quality of input data, restrict the efficiency of hydraulic models in practical applications, approximate models produce satisfactory results at considerably less expense with a limitation in their generality and accuracy depending on the ... • 8. Analysis Of Radha Krishna s Lovers Under A Futon By... Romantic love remains one of the most importance themes in virtually all cultures art; in Japanese and Indian art, although with different historical contexts and therefore interpretations, continues to be no exception. Kitigawa Utamaro prevailed as one of the most important artists under the ukiyo e genres, focusing on the beauty of women in the hedonistic and rigidly organized Tokugawa period as it enjoyed stability the island yearned for. Of an unknown artist of the Rajasthani school in neighboring Madhya Pradesh, foreign powers from the Mughal Empire to the Portuguese slowly encroached in India, yet managed to maintain its traditions in Radha Krishna in its epic romance in Jayadeva s Gita Govinda. In Utamaro s Lovers under a Futon ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The print portrays a man and a woman under a futon, assumedly intimately. The soft colors of pink and green of their clothes and of the mattress on them further affirm the softness of the piece; they are lovers. Although the man s attire contrasts with that of the woman, it is difficult to discern where their bodies apart. Just like how the futon is both green and pink like the man and woman s robes respectively, the piece is supposed to indicate a romantic union between the two. The patterns on the futon and robe help add dimension to the print, which would later be reprinted for the consumption of the merchant class in the Tokugawa period. It is particularly important to note how Utamaro portrays the woman; women by Utamaro not only had an idealized form with slender features, but she barely resembles the common woman of the period with her impossible proportions. In direct contrast with the realism movement and their aspiration in portraying people the way they truly are, Utamaro s depiction of women and romance are dreamily hedonistic just like many Vogue editorials. Lovers under a Futon is truly romantic, with a sense of equality between the two people; she is not there to serve him or vice versa. Instead, the couple is both enjoying ... • 9. Theme Of Passage To India A Passage to India A Passage to India by E. M. Forster is a Modernist novel which highlights the complex inner life of its characters using complicated plots and recurring symbols and images. Foster questions the conformist approaches of representing reality: he reiterates that whatever people call reality is an indefinable commodity. E. K. Brown, a renowned American critic, points out that the main idea of A passage to India is the chasm between the world of actions and the world of being (Mitra 5). Hence, the novel is not simply a piece of anti colonial fiction: it is modern classic too, one that is as relevant in the present times as it was in the pre colonial times. Inevitably, Forster s feelings and thoughts as regards the relationship found their way into the novel s characterization, imagery, and attitude towards personal relationships. To some extent, Foster s attitude towards inter racial friendships is as a result of his other affairs, especially with Mohammed. Throughout the novel, the author explores ways in which we can break down or even rise above the barriers of race, class, age and gender. This is one of the main themes in the novel. • 12. Identifying Lyme Disease Lyme disease can sometimes be difficult to diagnose as standard blood tests may give a false negative result. The bloodwork used to diagnose Lyme disease relies on the antibodies that the body makes in response to infection with Borrelia. It often takes a few weeks for a person s body to generate enough antibodies to show up on a blood test, however, time is crucial in the treatment in the treatment of Lyme disease. Additionally, many symptoms of Lyme disease coincide with those of other issues and it may be difficult to differentiate between possible diseases and conditions. Thankfully, there is a better two step method to identify Lyme disease. The first test is called an enzyme linked immunosorbent assay or ELISA, which is a sensitive test that examines antibodies in the body, but not specifically those related to Borrelia. If the results are positive or inconclusive, continue on to the second test. The second test is the Western Blot, which is a specific test that is used after positive or inconclusive results from ELISA. A positive WB test after a positive or inconclusive ELISA test result in a diagnosis of Lyme disease. In The Alchemist Paul Coelho writes about a boy named Santiago who strives and follows his goals in finding his hidden treasure, but along the way he discovers that the word treasure may have more than one meaning. In The alchemist the book uses the symbols of sheep, dessert, alchemy, and treasure to explore the theme that people must follow their own dreams and overcome obstacles in order to achieve there goals and gain wisdom. In the first half of the novel the author uses the symbol of the sheep to show that people live their lives the same way everyday, like Santiago did when he was a shepherd. This helps symbolizes that people need to take a break from living the same way everyday, and start living. • 14. The Human Nervous System Essay The Human Nervous System The nervous system is the most complex part of the body, as they govern our thoughts, feelings, and bodily functions. It is an important factor in science because it can lead to new discoveries for cures or diseases. The studies of the nervous system helped lower death rates from heart disease, stroke, accidents, etc. The nervous system is a network of neurons (nerve cells that sends information to the brain to be analyzed. Neurons live both in and outside the central nervous system. Understanding how the neurons work is vital to understanding the nervous system. The impulse is then sent to another neuron, and the process repeats until the nerves are at rest. The effect of the signals depends on what the target is. If the target of the signal is a muscle cell, the effect might be a muscle contraction. The speed of the electrical impulse depends on the size of the nerve fiber. In small nerves, the rate it transmits impulses is from a half to two meters a second. The larger the diameter of the nerve fiber, the higher rate of conducting impulses. There is less electrical resistance in thick fibers. When nerve impulse jumps from one node (gaps in nerve fibers) to the next, it is called saltatory conduction. Saltatory conduction conducts faster because it contains an insulator that prevents leakage of currents. The rate of conduction is 2 to 120 meters a second. Not all nerves conduct impulse electrochemically. Some impulses jump from nerve to nerve, bypassing the synapse. Unlike other cells, once neurons are lost, they can t be regenerated. Fortunately, there are about 10 billion neurons and they have other cells to aid them in carrying messages to other nerves. But if nerves are severed, the nerve fibers can regenerate if the two ends are reattached precisely. However, restored functions may produce different actions because the nerves might not be connected to the right channel. There are three main parts of the nervous system: the central, peripheral, and autonomic ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

There are data breaches everyday so patient and providers are concerned about the privacy and security of the HIE. Patients fear that sensitive health information related to dire diseases will be disclosed and used against them in decisions related to health insurance coverage or employment according to Mertz (2009, p.1). Providers are concerned that they will be breaking some health privacy laws of different states if they use a HIE. However, in essence as long as the HIE is following the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPPA) Privacy and Security Rules then the provider and patients should be safe. This is because HIPPA regulates covered entities such as healthcare providers, health insurers, healthcare clearing houses. They all must follow HIPPA regulations when accessing, using and disclosing your medical information. One main privacy and security concern when talking about a health information exchange is patient matching. Patient matching is used to match patients to medical records that come from multiple healthcare providers. • 17. Henry V Film Analysis 1. What are the principal differences between the two film versions of Shakespeare s Henry V in terms of plot? How do these differences advance the plot of the particular films? While both films follow the plot of the original play, there are several key differences in what each film focuses on. For Kenneth Branagh s Henry V, the core of the story is Henry s growth as a man, and his rejection of the immaturity of youth for the maturity of kingship. Thus, Henry s drinking friends and their fractured relationship with the new king take up a significant portion of screen time, leading up to the heartbreaking execution of Bardolph on Henry s orders. A quite literal death of childhood and adolescence, but a necessary one. But the drunken peasants aren t the only influence on Branagh s Henry; the English church also plays a crucial role in the young king s development. From the very beginning, the church sways and manipulates the inexperienced Henry into going to war, with the clergymen being framed as devils on his shoulder during the court scene. Bardolph s execution is even ordered for his crimes against the church. For Branagh, the plot is driven by Henry s battle between these influences and the choices he makes for his country. By contrast, Olivier s Henry V is a triumphant romp, with a greater focus on comedy and the triumph of England. The scene of the clergyman telling Henry of the Salic law is silly, with the assistant dropping the scrolls and forgetting the names of the distant monarchs. This also continues with the depiction of the French nobility as buffoonish, unthreatening ponces, and the many scenes of peasants goofing around outside of battle. In this rendition, Henry seems even more regal than other versions, with more emphasis on his victorious battles and rousing battle speeches. His conflict with his old friends is extremely downplayed, and nearly all the references to treachery within the court are removed. Instead of a character study of a conflicted young man, this Henry V is a story of noble England and their righteous victory against the French; a simplistic tale of good triumphing over evil. 2. • 19. My Memories One of my earliest memories, as a young child growing up in the 1960s and 1970s, was the visits to my Nan s home in south Ealing, west London. My family had moved from London to live in the seaside town of Weston super Mare in the mid 1960s. We had travelled to Weston by steam train but on returning to London for a visit, by the end of the 1960s, the coal eating steam trains were out and the odorous smell of diesel trains were in. The same steam engine carriages were still in use and were made up of individual compartments; my family of nine took up an entire compartment. Nan s food larder was always well stocked for our visits; filled with goodies like Spam, corned beef, Piccalilli etc. At Nan s house, unlike at home, I got the opportunity of sampling such delicacies like Spamish omelette and Spam fritters. Sounds exotic? Yes, to me they were. I love Piccalilli; it s the kind of stuff that never entered my home back in the 1960s, too weird, too foreign. Whenever I see Piccalilli it always reminds me of Nan. My large family would have been pretty boisterous and quite a handful for a woman, who normally lived on her own, to put up with; an invasion of bodies filling every room of her Victorian terraced house. • 20. The Relationship Between Print And Digital Reading Essay Printed and Digital Analyzing some aspects of the relationship between print and digital reading. A first essential aspect: more than indicating the substitution of texts printed by the digital ones, the readers of our universe of research coexistence of these two formats (Dourish Mazmanian, 2013). There is no disjunction, for the readers that would take the form of reading in print or digital, reading in one or the other; is verified in the practice that readers read both. This reading in both must be nuanced, as it is not a matter of reading everything in print and digital, regardless. Some interesting relationships are drawn. First, text size influences support preferences (Mollen, 2016). Texts large ones are preferably read in print; texts can be read in such a way that both in print and in digital. The type of text is also relevant. More serious consumption texts (work and study, notably) tend to lead to print, from fun to digital. These first two factors, size and type of text, should be articulated with whether it is a full text or an excerpt (a chapter, for example, for Study): complete text points to printed matter. Crossing the three elements, an ideal type of text, which would tend to be consumed in print. At the other extreme, second type Ideal, we have a small text section and fun, which would tend to digital. The Crosses of these elements can give rise to a continuous range of possibilities. Two plates of agar and a hand is used to retrieve the bacteria and then placed in a temperature where they can survive. Different types of bacteria are affected by the environment that slow down or increase the growth of these prokaryotes. The data provided by the table supports the hypothesis; therefore the hypothesis can be accepted. The hypothesis states that the untreated hand is the one that contained larger amount of bacteria grown. The reason this is true is because bacteria can be found in environments that are unclean or untreated. In addition, agar is made from subunits of galactose that contain cell walls from other species such as the red algae. For this reason the agar plate is commonly used for culturing bacteria is since the bacteria doesn t eat up the plate instead they grow rapidly on there. The table reflects the results of the class reinforcing the theory that a treated hand will contain less bacteria than that of an unwashed hand. A few numbers collected proved the opposite where the treated had more bacteria than the unwashed hand. Although most of the data correlated to the hypothesis, some were not because of many unknown factors such as not swiping correctly, or the student swiped too fast not leaving behind enough bacteria to be delivered to the agar plate or during the hand washing there was not specific way of washing them. When I plugged in my data the results did not match with the majority of the class because there were very few bacteria colonies in my untreated and many more on the treated hand; again, there are many reasons why the experiment did not turn out the way the hypothesis was originally planned. Thus, settlement workers saw the need for a dramatic change in social, health and reactional services that were offered in slum areas in the large cities (Heinonen and Spearman, 2010, p. 15). Moreover, the settlement house workers believed that problems people faced were due to deficiencies of the social structure; not due to character flaw (Course Lecture Notes, PowerPoint Chapter 2). Contrary to the Settlement House Movement was the Charity Organization Society. The settlement house movement went against the beliefs of the Charity Organization Society because they believed that charity was a form of social control. Dowdle chose not to identify the setting in order to honor the request of the Thai government (de Souza). To comply with the Thai government, Dowdle also had to avoid using the Thai language, the color yellow because it is associated with the king, and depictions of the Buddha (de Souza). In addition to that, Dowdle claimed that it was actually an anti interventionist message because the rebellion arose from American exploitation of Southeast Asian resources, notably the water manufacturing company that Jack Dwyer works for (de Souza). However, I think that this message falls short due to the portrayal of the Southeast Asian rebels as relentlessly violent, dehumanized killers. This particularly reminded me of Orientalism, which argues that the West reduces foreign countries such as those in Southeast Asia to primitive, broad stereotypes in order to establish the West as superior to them (Said).
