The Constitutional And Statutory History Of The Right
To understand the present scope of the right to a trial by jury in civil actions, it is necessary to
examine the constitutional and statutory history of the right. The United States Constitution has
preserved the right to a jury trial in [s]uits at common law, where the value in controversy shall
exceed twenty dollars. The New York Constitution provides for trial by juryin civil actions in all
cases in which it has heretofore been guaranteed. In addition to the constitutional right, this right
has been further codified in CPLR Section 4101. The cases in which jury trials are required are
generally those actions that evolved through the common lawcourts versus those developed in the
equity courts, which are tried by the court alone.
Courts of equity were the Chancery courts and existed historically as an entirely separate
department from the Supreme Court, imitating the historical arrangement in place in England. A
primary reason for the development of the Chancery courts was to provide a means of redress
where the common law provided an inadequate remedy or no remedy at all. In equity, generally
the court s power is to direct someone to act or to forbear from acting, which circumstances clearly
cannot be redressed by the award of money damages.
In New York, with the passage of the 1846 Constitution, law and equity were merged so that
jurisdiction could be had by the same tribunal regardless of the nature of the suit. Legal and
equitable jurisdictions

The Role Of 2 Youth And Community Organisations
The piece will discuss an interagency project application between 2 youth and community
organisations, with the aim of securing local authority funding set within the youth commissioning
process. This piece will discuss a number of key components which are essential towards an
effective partnership and the success of a joint funding proposal. Furthermore this paper will
provide a number of areas that need to be considered and avoided in the process of the bid being
rejected or suspended.
It is over the last 30 years that youth and community groups have experienced a major change in
the ways public services have been perceived, managed and provided. Merton et al (2009:94) claim

PQQ requires an organisation to prove they have relevant required measures and is suitable and
sufficiently well managed to be capable of doing the work set out in the proposal, for example

According to the National Youth Agency (2012: 10) there are a number of different descriptions
for the commissioning process. However, essentially all follow a process of understand, plan, do
and review , which Merton (2009:99) states; is important to recognise that the full commissioning
process is more that procurement. If the commissioners, who may also be known as the Children

commissioning. A more in depth look at this cycle can be obtained via NYA (2012:10) the
commissioning cycle diagram or see the commissioning framework for Every Child Matters (2006)
Policy makers have made it clear cut that local authorities can only provide and commission an
integrated youth offer with partners, in particular with organisations and services in the voluntary
and community sector Merton (2007:105). According to the NYA (2012:3) before embarking on
any commissioning it is important to ensure that: there is a commitment to shared vision, values
and principles; there are strong governance arrangements in place; there is a clear remit for the
work; and key partners and stakeholders have been identified.

Racial Stereotypes Of Asian-Americans
Today, when society talks about diversity, often times, Asian Americans are brought into the
conversation and are talked about as highly looked up to individuals, but they haven t always
been this way. On television, many times, Asian Americans are represented as nerdy and socially
incapable/awkward , Asian American males are mostly shown as being weak and stereotypically
awkward, while Asian American females are either shown as exotic or also stereotypically
awkward and nerdy, as stated by Takaki in his book Strangers from a Different Shore on page 479,
Hopeful a college education can help them [the students] overcome racial obstacles, they realize the
need to be serious about their studies. But white college students complain: Asian students are
nerds. This very stereotype betrays nervousness fears that Asian American students are raising class
grade curves.
Though, these representations do only account for the three most popular Asian ethnic groups:
Japanese, Chinese and Korean. The other Asian ethnic groups are mostly invisible to society, some
groups, such as the Vietnamese Americans and the Hmong Americans, are known for their
population size. These groups are also the groups that tend to live in areas that are largely
populated with the same race, therefore, congregating to one area. A lot of times, I ve realized
from personal experience, that when people realize that I am Asian, they tend to compare me
with the stereotypes that are generally associated with being Asian American. Often, I am told
that I am tall for being Asian as the stereotypes say that Asians females generally are shorter in
stature and are petite with light skin and pin straight black hair. On occasion, I am told that I look
more Hawaiian than I do Asian due to my darker skin and bigger build. Though, I do hear a lot of
comments regarding my eyes and about how little they are. These experiences have made me
believe that the role that Asian Americans play in the race conversation now is that when the
conversation turns to Asian America, people automatically look towards stereotypes along with
looking at certain traditional cultures often stating things such as, I really like Asian foods or, I
think that kimonos are

Genogram And Ethnography Analysis
The overall process of drawing out my ecomap and genogram was moderately easy. I drew rough
drafts of both clinical tools first before completing the final copies. I found this helpful especially
for the ecomap because it allowed me to organize the different ecological impacts of my life
effectively. I think the hardest part of creating this clinical tool was being able to lay it out so that
things that should be connected were close to each other. I liked drawingthe ecomap because it was
interesting to see different aspects of my life connected to each other. Thinking of the different
parts of my life that I come in contact with came easily to me. In terms of completing the
genogram, because I have relatively small family, this was not that

Hiv And The Immune System
What is HIV HIV , stands for human immunodeficiency virus, it is a virus that attacks the immune
system, the immune system protects the body against infection and illness .If the body does not
have a strong immune system, It may not be able fight off disease. The virus and the infection it
causes are termed HIV. White blood cells are the part of the immune systemthat is important as far
as fighting off infection. When a person catches HIV it infects and destroys certain white blood
cells called CD4+ cells. If a lot of CD4+ cells are destroyed, the body can no longer fight off
infection. When HIV progresses to its last stage it is called AIDS(acquired immunodeficiency
syndrome). People with AIDS have a very low number of CD4+ cells and get infections or
cancers that do not commonly occur in non infected people. These infections and cancers can be
deadly because the immune system is compromised. A common misconception that people have
is that AIDS and HIV is the same thing. Having HIV doesn t mean you have AIDS. Even if a
patient is never treated for HIV, it still takes a long time for HIV to turn into AIDS sometimes it
can take up to 10 to 12 years for HIV to turn into AIDS. When a patient is diagnosed with HIV
there are medicines to slow the HIV virus to turning into AIDS, medicines can slow or stop the
disease from damaging the immune system. If AIDS does develop there is still hope, medicines can
help the immune system become healthy again. With

Characteristics Of The Unsung Heroes

Heroes Superheroes, astronauts, actors, and princesses are among the answers given when
children are asked their desired professions. As they grow up, however, they begin to solidify
legitimate professions to support themselves and be happy. Growing up, I knew for a fact that I
wanted to be a detective. The idea of solving real cases with real people and interviewing
suspects gave me a rush like no other. Helping people has always been a goal of mine. From
being a detective, I have also contemplated being a dental hygienist, cosmetologist (like my
mother), and even a history teacher. The variety of occupations in the world are almost never
ending; there are even jobs that no one has really even thought about. Even though I occasionally
change my mind, I have decided to give up my childhood dream of becoming a detective to
become a registered nurse (RN). The nursing profession has continued to thrive over time. Because
I have seen how often nurses get overlooked, I want to be a part of a profession that knows its
worth, learns more than just education, and is beneficial to society. Although they are the unsung
heroes of hospitals, schools, and even the military, nurses are essential to communities around the
world, and I look forward to entering this profession. The nursing major is a popular choice for
many people entering college. This profession continues to grow because of numerous

My Passion For Organic Chemistry
When I was six, I distinctly remember that my grandfather was diagnosed having an early stage
colorectal cancer. He went through a major surgery and recovered with prescription drugs and
herbal therapies, which appeared to have a positive additive effect. I was inspired by the ability of
the pharmaceuticals in relieving my grandfather s pain, giving him a future, and allowing me to
share more memories with him. My passion in studying organic chemistryarises from me realizing
there is immense potential embedded in the chemistry principles to develop tools for the treatment
of human diseases. Through my undergraduate studies and research, I became determined in
pursuing a graduate carrier, in which I aim to grow into an expert in chemical reactivities and an
independent scientist who can invent chemistry and contribute to the development of
pharmaceuticals.
In my sophomore year, I was intensely drawn to organic chemistry in Professor Thomas Maimone s
class. The elegant and logical framework of chemical transformations absorbed me. I learned the
fundamental roles of organic chemistry in drug discovery and became increasingly interested in
solving challenging synthetic problems. I enjoyed the thrill of composing creative pathways to
generate complexity, but also found that my knowledge of organic transformations made me
limited. Therefore, I fostered my chemical intuition on how and why reactions occur through select
graduate level organic chemistry coursework.

Sasha: I know. But I don t know if any of that changed my views. I still think becoming a
vegetarian is the way to go.
Devon: You think? I still think that it is okay to eat meat. The animalsjust need to be raised in a
humane manner.
Sasha: Eh...I don t know. Animals should just be left alone and be free to roam around in the wild.
They should not be tortured like those animals that I saw while visiting that kill floor .

Devon: I can agree with that too! So, when animals are on the farm, they really don t know what s
going to come in the future. Also, if they do get hurt, they are able to get over it quickly and not sit
there and think about the pain.
Sasha: But it still bothers me that they are not getting treated the same way as humans. I
remember in Peter Singers article when he talked about the idea of speciesism. He said that it was
an attitude of bias that favored the interest of members of their own species (4). The one species is
against the other species.
Devon: Well, I can see how that is a good argument.
Sasha: And the fact that we treat these animals based on intelligence is also ridiculous. Just because
a dog does not understand what it means to vote, society should not consider it less intelligent than
us. It is a living thing that deserves the best life.
Devon: Okay, but Sasha, you have to also remember that these animals do depend on us to
continue to live a good life. Without us, they would be put in the wild and be put at risk of dying
fast. In Pollan s article, he discussed how animals live longer in captivity and how domesticated
animals can t live on their own in the wild (6). Yeah, they will not be living the absolute free life,
but they will be protected and nourished if needed.
Sasha: Hmmm I never really noticed that. But, do you see how these animals are being treated like
a tool? In Regan s article, he said that animals should not be treated as a means

Judicial Review Essay
JUDICIAL REVIEW AND THE INDIAN COURTS
Introduction
Judicial Review is basically an aspect of judicial power of the state which is exercised by the
courts to determine the validity of a rule of law or an action of any agency of the state. The courts
have the power of testing the validity of legislative as well as other governmental action with
reference to the provisions of the constitution. The judiciary tries to undo the harm that is being
done by the legislature and executive and they also try to provide every citizen what has been
guaranteed by the constitution. Judicial review has a more technical significance in pubic law,
particularly in countries having a written constitution which are founded on the concept of limited
government. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Judicial Review in India
The constitution of India, in this respect, is more similar to the U.S. Constitution than the British.
Under the constitution of India parliament is not supreme. Its powers are limited in the two
ways. First, there is the division of powers between the union and the states. Parliament is
competent to pass laws only with respect to those subjects which are guaranteed to the citizens
against every form of legislative encroachment. The power of judicial review of legislation is
given to the judiciary both by the political theory and text of the constitution. There are several
specific provisions in the Indian constitution, judicial review of legislation such as Act 13, 32, 131
136, 143, 226, 145, 246, 251, 254 and 372.
Judicial review is a great weapon in the hands of judges. It comprises the power of a court to
hold unconstitutional and unenforceable any law or order based upon such law or any other
action by a public authority which is inconsistent or in conflict with the basic law of the land. In
fact, the study of constitutional law may be described as a study of the doctrine of judicial review
in action. The courts have power to strike down any law, if they believe it to be unconstitutional.
In the case I.R. Coelho v. State of Tamil Nadu the court laid down a two fold test: : (a) whether an
amendment or a law is violative of any of the Fundamental Rights in Part III (b) if so, whether the
violation

Contemporary Social Issues Of DACA
Part I Introduction: The Contemporary Social Issue of DACA A social issue that is currently
whirling around the United States is the discussion of what is going to happen with DACA
recipients. DACA stands for The Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals and they are also
commonly referred to as Dreamers (Michelle Mark 2017). The DACA act was set in place in
2012 by President Barrack Obama and it provided young immigrants the chance to apply for
temporary protection from deportation. Often times children are too young to know what is
going on and their parents bring them into the United States so they are then protected under the
DACA act. It is also only eligible to immigrants who have been in the United States since 2007
and were under 16 years of age; 30 or younger as of June 2012, in high school or have a diploma
or GED and a clean criminal record (Dara Lind 2017). The program does not grant legal status,
put them on a path to citizenship and or legalization (Michelle Mark 2017). The protection does
allow these people to get authorization to work and obtain a valid driver s license in some states.
DACA provides the opportunity for them to have the chance to further their education, buy cars,
homes and even the possibility of starting a business (Dara Lind 2017). Currently 800, 000 people
depend on the DACA Act in the United States (Michelle Mark). Without the DACA Act, the
recipients are essentially an illegal immigrant. Now what makes DACA a social issue is that

The Importance Of Film Evaluation
The evaluation of a film assigns some form of value to a film and the experience you encountered
while watching the film. Evaluation can imply the criteria and standards that you can argue about
to place value on a film. Thus, giving people a reason to question a film to develop reasons, make
such standards are met and to understand the film. These standards can stem from the classical
evaluation and pluralistic category method which has given viewers a blueprint of how you should
properly evaluate a film. There are certain ways that you can go about judging a films effectiveness.
For instance, the classical evaluation method imposes the use of cinematicity within three concepts
that all films should have. Like medium specificity, cinematicity allows film to distinguish itself
from theatre with the use of close ups, camera movement, etc.; thus, creates a universal structure
for critics to judge a film. This is based on the creative style of the directorand how much the
viewers admire the way the has stuck with its cinematicity. However, the pluralistic category does
not base its evaluation on style and opinion. In all, these types of evaluations are used in different
ways which will be further explained throughout this essay.
According to the classical theorist, there should be a display of visual representation which the
solvet montagists, realists and the Perkins theory which was founded by Victor Perkins book, Film
as Film. The solvet montagist concepts

Transitions are used to show the passing of the flow of control from activity to activity. They are
typically triggered by the completion of the behavior in the originating activity. Decision points:
When modeling the workflow of a system it is often necessary to show where the flow of control

The Character Of Billy s The Landlady
The Landlady
Even though the gruesome, ghastly and demonic story known as The Landlady ends in a
disturbing way, it portrays many characteristics about the protagonist, Billy. There are numerous
ways to characterize Billy, a 17 year old kid on his first business trip in the strange city of Bath,
England. Billy begins his journey to a hotel known as the Bell and Dragon but stumbles to a halt
when he sees a seemingly cozy bed and breakfast that catches his eye. For a few pages everything
seems great; unfortunately for Billy, he has some flaws which ultimately lead to his shocking death
at the hands of a demented landlady. These are curiosity, a tendency to miss important clues, and
gullibility.
The gullible nature of Billy Weaver is quite interesting as he does not show any sign of stupidity,
but his gullible state got the best of him. There are numerous reasons to portray the nature of Billy
as abnormal. The first sign shown by Billy is when he figures out the cost of staying at the Bed and
Breakfast for a night. In the passage, it states Five and sixpence a night, including breakfast (Dahl
2). He subsequently says it was fantastically cheap (Dahl 2). but he never thought of the
consequences he would face or think why it was so cheap, as many places would charge twice as
much. This shows his gullible state of mind at the extremes. Billy Weaver finally asks about how
this cheap of a place did not get lots of customers and she answered: I m inclined to be

White Supremacy Is Influencing The Young People Of Today
Have you ever wondered if White Supremacy is influencing the young people of today the wrong
thing? Why should White Supremacy in America be abolished? Over more than 200 years,
White Supremacy has made an authority on the nation s history, often through the federal and
state laws, and it continues to be a visual element in the American society. White Supremacy was
created during the 19th century, during the removal of the Native American tribes in the east of
Mississippi to land west of the river. President Andrew Jackson thought native Americans and
whites should not coexist. White supremacy should be abolished due to the really bad influence
that is having on the young people of today. Some solutions that could help of the abolishment on
White Supremacy is Arrest White Supremacist groups, have racism marked as a crime, and
educate the population about racism and the harms of White Supremacy. Some opposing
arguments are that White Supremacy is not setting a bad example ,It is helping the environment.
However, this argument is not true.
White Supremacy is a type of racism that can be taken in many ways. For example,
(According to Jamie Liu from White Supremacy/Background .org), She states that Neo Nazis, hate

A New And Accurate Digital Approximation Of The Fractional...
Abstract In this article a new and accurate digital approximation of the fractional order
differentiator (FOD) in the form of FIR filter is presented. This approach is based on power series
expansion of fractional order systems. First, the first order digital differentiators can be simply
derived from a classical continuous time approximate differentiator by using the Bilinear
transformation. Then, the transfer function of digital FOD is obtained by taking fractional power
of the transfer function of conventional first order digital differentiator. Next, the power series
expansion is used to design digital FIR fractional order differentiator, with closed form formula.
Finally, some examples are presented through the paper to illustrate the performance and the
effectiveness of the proposed design method. Keywords Fractional order differentiator; FIR filter;
power series expansion; Bilinear transformation. I.INTRODUCTION In the last decades,
considerable interest in fractional order operators has been simulated by the applications of these
concepts in different areas of engineering [1 10]. Analog and digital implementations of this type of
operators are then important research topics. Because they cannot be exactly implemented, only a
limited implementation can however be achieved in a frequency band of interest using
approximation techniques. In reference [4], we can find a good summary of the existing methods
of their analog implementation by rational functions. In

visited is usually where events have happened in the past that are relevant or important to what
the pilgrim believes. Pilgrimage is an ancient custom which has changed over many years. It used
to be a long and dangerous journey, but now many treat it like a holiday. A very early example of a
pilgrim was HsГјan Tsang, a 7th century Chinese Buddhist; he travelled 65,000 km/ 40,000 mi
during his 16 year pilgrimage through India and China. Here is a picture of HsГјan Tsang,
returning home from India:

It is said that Mary told Bernadette to find a spring. She did and in 1862 it was declared by the
pope that the underground spring had miraculous healing qualities. Since then Lourdes has become
one of the most popular pilgrimage centres for Christians. There have been numerous claims of
cures of bodily ailments at Lourdes, some of which have been pronounced miraculous by the
ecclesiastical authorities. A medical bureau, the Bureau des Constatations MГ©dicales, examines
people who claim to have been cured. It consists of a permanent president and a panel of other
doctors (of any nationality or religious persuasion) who happen to be in Lourdes and who have
registered their names with the bureau.
Almost three million people visit Lourdes every year. Some reasons why pilgrims go are; for
spiritual discipline. Pilgrimage is an act of prayer and devotion, something undertaken for God.
Many go to increase their faith. They visit the scenes of events that are part of their spiritual life.
Some go to allow those events to become more real to them. As they see the places where these
things happened, they feel they can picture them more clearly. They feel closer to God during
their pilgrimage. Many go just for the simple experience of being a pilgrim. For a day, or for a few
days, they can concentrate on their faith in a happy relaxed way. Lots go for the sense of being

Music Therapy And Its Effect On Children
Music plays an important role in everyone s life and, although the majority of people nowadays
have heard of music therapy, not many are exactly sure of what it is nor are they aware of its
beneficial effects (Peters 2). Children, in particular, have shown significant improvement in their
disabilities when subjected to musical therapy. Music therapist Ulla Holck s studies show that
music therapycan meet the basic needs of children with special needs, such as behavioral
problems, attention skills, social skills, emotional needs and intersubjective skills. In addition
cognitive skills can be strengthened if the basic needs are fulfilled (45). Music therapy is a
process in which music is utilized to meet or enhance the individual s mental and physical health.
The introduction of music therapy has always brought many benefits, no matter if in general
settings or in schools and families; it is documented to ameliorate the relationship between a child
and the family, as well as aid children with disabilities, such as autism, and special needs. Because
of the proven effectiveness of music therapy for children with disabilities and not, parents should
be encouraged to make music apart of their children s lives.
There is plenty of evidence that proves that music has been utilized in therapy and healing practices
since ancient times. Among the earliest people to practice music therapy before it even became a
profession were the shamans, who originated in the primitive civilizations

Cormac Mccarthy s No Country For Old Men
No Country for Old Men, by Cormac McCarthy, is about a Vietnam War veteran stumbling upon
an irreversible mistake of witnessing a drug deal going completely south and his journey of being

Mckee writes in his novel, Story. No Country for Old Menhas elements Mckee describes
incorporated within the novel, such as characterdevelopment and controlling ideas. McCarthy s
novel incorporates a defeat for the protagonists instead of the typical victory against evil. Victories
are clichГ© which Mckee believes should be avoided when creating a film, so McCarthy s novel
fits the role well.

Mark Twain is a pen name of Samuel Longhorne Clemens, one of the greatest novelist in the
twentieth century. As an American writer who was born in Missouri, Twain worked mainly as a
printer for local newspapers and as a riverboat pilot in his early career. Such experience provided
him the setting for two of his great works: The Adventures of Tom Sawyer(1876) and its sequel,
The Adventure of Huckleberry Finn(1885), ?the great American novel?. These two works reflected
Twain?s attitude towards slavery, civil rights and anti imperialism. His life was concluded as ?the
greatest American humorist in his age,? by New York Times and ?the father of American literature?

Emancipation Proclamation and the end of the Civil War, America?and especially the South?was
still struggling with racism and the after effects of slavery.?By describing the change of attitude
towards Jim, Twain reached his target, supporting anti slavery.
The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn,?The Adventures of Tom Sawyer?concerns itself primarily
with painting an idyllic picture of boyhood life along the Mississippi River. Though Twain satirizes
adult conventions throughout? The Adventures of Tom Sawyer,?he leaves untouched certain larger
issues that? The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn?explores critically: the problem of slavery, was
mentioned indirectly in the Tom but was directly depicted in Huckleberry by using a character: Jim.

The Plague of Athens Essay
The plague of Athens
The Athenian plague was an epidemic that began in the summer of 430 B.C. in Athens a year
after the Peloponnesian war in 431 B.C. It was supposed that the plague was a result of excess
number of Athenians within the city walls also known as the long walls a military strategy by
Pericles which consisted of building walls that connected the city to its port . The surplus of
Athenians led to a shortage of food, water, an absence of sewage systems, and other important
factors were said to have brought about the plague. It first appeared in the south of Egypt, Ethiopia,
Libya, and later on in the Persian Empire, and Rome before arriving in Athens . The disease

It left the population time to live in crime as they awaited death. The once valued Athenian
morals also ceased to existed in that period. The population did not bother to accomplish any of
the morally accepted laws. Meaning that since no one would ever be there to acknowledge it or
they could ever gain benefits for it, it was normal for some not to complete any. For them, it was
considered a waste of time to be morally just because they all would perish. The epidemic left the
Athenians incapable of caring for their families who were infected. In Thucydides eyes, the most
immoral act of all was the fact that they were left to die by loved ones. The plague was highly
contagious; the infected showed signs of ineffectual retching followed, producing violent spasms,

their traditionnal obligations and abandoned their families and friends. They basically abandoned

Nature Vs Nurture Debate Essay
The oldest arguments in the history of psychology is the Nature vs Nurture discussion. Both are
legitimate and it is very hard to decide whether a person s development is prone to his DNA or
influenced by his life experience and environment. Presently, nature and nurture both play important
role in human development. However what remains unknown is if human is developed solely
because of nature or nurture. . As of now, we know that both nature and nurture play important roles
in human development, but we have not known yet whether we are developed majorly because of
nature or due to nurture. Nature is the collection of genes in each human cell which determines the

Classical and operant conditioning are both similar because they involve making association
between behavior and events in an organism s environment. They are guided by the law of
association. Classic conditioning g was originated by Mr. Pavlov and it is sometimes referred to
respondent conditioning. Classic conditioning facilitate learning as an involuntary response
resulting from an experience. It occurs when you lean to associate different stimulus which are
unconditioned stimulus and unconditioned response. While operant conditioning facilitate learning
as a changes in behavior as a result of experience that occurs after a response. It involves voluntary
behavior which is followed with either reinforcement or punishment, Reinforcement will cause a
behavior to increase while punishment decreases a behavior. There are also two types of
punishment that occur in operant conditioning. Positive punishment is the addition of something
undesirable. Examples would be a child receiving a spanking or receiving extra chores for
misbehaving. The other type of punishment is negative punishment. Negative punishment is the

Jeannette Winterson Weight Essay
In Jeanette Winterson s novel Weight, the author demonstrates how myths have modern personal
relevancies and can encourage each reader to investigate the three main subject matters in their
lives; boundaries, freedom, and guilt. The numerous references to walls throughout the novel
signify the boundaries, which make Atlasstrive for freedom. Winterson s Weight, is a modern

nothingness that can sometimes be unappreciated. Winterson writes, I built a walled garden, a

Argumentative Essay On Public Health
Public health institutions have developed strategies to improve children s life. They focused in
three main points the need to focus on the environment that makes children sick rather than on sick
children; the need to attack the biggest problems, not the most scientifically interesting ones; and
the need to provide services where children are most likely to be (Howard, Golden, 2017). They
agree that children s problems are environmental reactions as it was in the past. Therefore, the
history plays a big role in policy discussions. In 1900, the child welfare movement made an impact
in public healthas well as in children health care. Public health helped to catch infectious diseases
and many other family conditions (Howard, Golden, 2017).
Accordingly, the government established a national public health infrastructure. Indeed, hospitals,
medical schools and research laboratories creation made a difference in children s health. In fact,
the government commitment was to prevent the infant and child s mortality (Howard, Golden,

Reflection On African American Studies
Personal Reflection Introduction to African American Studies was the class that I decided to take
this summer because I am genuinely interested in learning more about the cultures and lifestyles of
African Americans through out history and I want to further my knowledge beyond just learning
about what was taught to me in secondary school. I do not know much about African American
studies as I have not taken any courses on it or relating to it in the past but I hope that I can gain
a lot of information on the topic through out this intellectual experience. I also hope to gain a
better understanding of the history of Africans and African Americas and be able to dive deeper
into this topic instead of just hitting the surface as I feel as though my previous experiences with
this topic have covered. In just this first weeks lesson I have learned about the three great
principles that characterize the Black Intellectual Tradition and how these three principles are used
and perceived. During my secondary education experience some of the things that I have learned
about the African or African American experience were the slave trade and slavery of Africans
during early American and that these slaves were used for things like farming, working in mills,
and servants to the rich, all against their will and most without any pay or human rights. I also had
learned about the equality movement in American during the 19th century and the movement to

The History Of Mathematics In A Large Nutshell
Math through the Ages provides an interesting and concise analysis of the mathematical culture of
different societies in history. The section The History of Mathematics in a Large Nutshell provides
an interesting discussion of Greek mathematics. The mathematics of the culture both influenced and
was influenced by the culture of the society. The Greeks were most likely the most important
historical society in the Western world. They spread their vast knowledge and affected the
mathematical traditions of the world. According to Greek historians, their mathematical pursuits
began somewhere around 600 B.C.E. Our earliest record of Greek mathematics, however, is from
300 B.C.E. Unfortunately, most of what we know about the Greek mathematical tradition comes
from the 3rd and 4th century. These works seem to do a decent job at preserving the past, but how
well they preserve the works scholars cannot know (Berlinghoff Gouvea, 2004, p. 14). One reason
for the Greeks extensive influence on mathematics was the broad range of Greek speaking people.
Greek mathematics is not limited to Greece, but rather extends throughout the Mediterranean
world. Greek was the language of the educated in most of the Mediterranean. Building on the work
of the Egyptians, the Greeks made many great mathematical achievements (Berlinghoff Gouvea,
2004, p. 15). The Greek numeration system was very similar to the Roman s and rather primitive
compared to that of the Babylonians. The system used the

a) Seeing as how Alton Towers is an amusement park, factors that could effect could affect customer

they are hungry, are they enough lavatories around the park, and, most importantly, are the rides in

Le Moulin De La Galette
Le Moulin de la Galette was painted in France by Vincent Van Gogh in 1887. This particular
iteration of Le Moulin de la Galette is just one of many in a series done by Van Gogh. This piece
depicts a beautiful scene of Montmartre in Paris. The background of this work appears to be a
deep blue Paris sky during the day. However, what immediately allures the viewer s eye is the
Moulin de Blute Fin, which is a large decommissioned windmill located in the upper center right
portion of the canvas. Anterior to the Moulin de Blute Fin is a mixture of fences gardens, sheds,
and shacks scattered about the hill.
In addition to the Moulin de Blute Fin, a much smaller windmill, the Moulin Г Poivre, can be
found on the left side of the canvas. If one close enough they will also notice a man standing near
the frontmost fence. One wouldn t be able to tell what exactly that man is doing, but while
observing the painting in person, it is clear that he is painting. The bottom half of the portrait is
filled entirely green grass, dainty bushes, yellow flowers, and other foliage. Finally, towards the
very bottom of the canvas the blades of grass and flowers appear much more detailed than those
above it. Their thick and deliberate brushstrokes allow them to appear much closer to the viewer
than the rest of the shrubbery.

Breast cancer has a negative impact on American society as it has changed the lives of family

The Movie Hocus Pocus Was Directed By Kenny Ortega And The...
In the late 1940 s a man named Joseph Campbell shared his Mythic principal with the world. He
explains that there is a three stage formula that he calls a Hero Journey which is the structure of
every story. Though most stories are completely different on the outside, the stories are almost
structured around these three stages. Stage 1 is the hero leaves the everyday world and enters
another world. While Stage 2 the hero is challenged by opposing forces and must pass a series a
test throughout the movie. That will then determine who will be victorious, either the hero or the
opposing forces. Stage 3 is tied into Stage 2 because if the hero is victorious, they will return to
the ordinary world with a gift for the world.
David Kirschner and Mick Garris fulfilled all the Hero s Journey steps. The movie Hocus Pocus
was directed by Kenny Ortega and is based on the Salem Witch trails back in Salem, Massachusetts
in the 1600 s. On October 31, 1693, in Salem, Massachusetts, Thackery Binx discovers his sister
Emily being spirited away to the Sanderson Sisters cottage, a trio of witches. The sisters,
Winifred, Sarah and Mary, cast a spell on Emily to absorb her youth and regain their own, killing
Emily. Binx confronts them, but the witches transform him into an immortal black cat and to live
with his guilt. The townsfolk led by Binx s father, capture and hang the witches, but Winifred s
spell book casts a curse that will resurrect the witches on All Hallows Eve when a virgin lights

The Cost Of A College Education
Often students don t believe they can afford college. Their parents don t have the money to assist
them and they know working a part time job isn t going to cover the cost of a college education.
These students should have the same opportunities as everyone else which is why the government
has setup some programs for students that are in need of financial assistance.
Many students may wonder what kinds of federal grants are available. There are a number of
grants available; some of these are Federal Pell grants, Federal Supplemental Educational
Opportunity Grants (FSEOG), Teach Education (TEACH) grants, and Iraq and Afghanistan Service

This particular grant is a grant that requires the student to take certain kinds of classes to receive
the grant. Once the TEACH grant is awarded, the student is required to obtain a certain type of job
for a certain amount of time to prevent the grant from turning into a loan. This particular grant was
established to assist students with college that plan to become a teacher in a high ended field in a
low income area. By accepting this grant, if you fail to teach for a certain amount of time the grant
will turn into a direct subsidized loan that you will have to pay back.
Lastly, there are programs and funds available to our former military members. The Iraq and
Afghanistan service grant is for students that had a parent or guardian that died due to serving in a
military service in Iraq or Afghanistan. Much like other federal grants, Iraq and Afghanistan
service members are provided grant money to be used for college or career school students. This
money is to assist in paying for their educational expenses.
Another question you may hear often is, what steps should you take in applying for federal
grants? There is two steps to applying for federal grants. Well the first step you will take in
getting a federal grant is to submit a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). FAFSA is
income based and normally if you have a low income, and

when its all around us in the media or just the way we grew up and weren t able to change where
we went to school or where we lived. Each of us needs to look at our own behavior. Am I

Using A Virtual Private Network
VPNs
By
Samantha Fitzpatrick
Prepared for
Dr. Ford
30 April 2015 Introduction There is a growing need to connect to internal networks from locations
other than the regular and secure office. Employers and organizations need to realize that
employees often need to connect to internal private networks from home, hotels, airports, etc. A
solution for this problem is using a virtual private network (VPN), which is a network that uses
public network paths, but maintains the security and protection of private networks. Secure
communication is expensive, but VPNs allow organizations to have a number of discrete
communication services for a large amount of clients. It is cheaper to have a copious amount of
virtual networks on a couple physical devices than having a copious amount of physically discrete
devices accomplishing the same objective.
Methodology
VPNs transmit data through secure tunneling. A packet is first encapsulated in a new packet with
a new header and then sent through the tunnel, which is normally IPSec, L2TP, PPTP, or SSL.
Both points of the tunnel need to support the protocol used. To provide access to the internet, the
packet with a private IP address can be sent inside of a packet with a global IP address. For
security, VPNs use encryption to make sure packets are indecipherable without the proper keys,
which provides data confidentiality. They also provide data integrity using a message digest to
ensure the information has not been tampered with

Introduction
Student banking is an important aspect of banks and students because it provides a suite of
financial, educational and social engagement services that collectively help students to better
understand banking and how to smartly interact with finances. In this regard, FNB should attract,
acquire, satisfy and retain students because they represent future profitability if successful
relationships are created. However for this to be done, the bank needs to successfully market itself
to this target segment by giving them reasons to bank with FNB, offer incentives to students and
offering value added benefits that best satisfies the students needs. It is imperative that FNB create
a sense of trust and commitment by tailoring ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This will get FNB great coverage and interaction with this market. But these trends require accurate
targeting and engaging content. In their dialogues and promotional communications materials FNB
should focus on how they can best motivate their individual customer and call for their action. They
should live up to their How can we help you slogan, and really get down to helping when customers
require the assistance. In today s relationship marketing it is no more enough to track the
experiences of your customers and learn about them. It is about enriching every interaction you
have with your customers by welcome calls, helpdesk, customer service setup support, complete
customer care, complaint handling, win back programs.
FNB should also try to engage their student market with educational yet fun and interactive games
and problem solving through social media sites and mobile applications. The student market is
generally prone to participate in fun and rewarding competitions. FNB could attract the student
market by teaming up with party events and night clubs that will allow students discounts on
entrance fee as well as drinks. This would be an effective way to communicate with this market and
really grab their attention.
The 6 core value chain aspects will now be discussed:

In terms of acquisition, CRM strategies should assist a bank to target

Morality And Ethics Of The Auschwitz And Art Spiegelman s...
Morality is adaptable in extreme situations. The Holocaust is an example of what happens to one s
morality when forced to adapt to animalistic behavior in order to survive. Life in Auschwitz
required a purging of one s human dignity for survival. Prisoners were constantly exposed to
perpetual dehumanization, which inevitably led to the dehumanization, and restoration of one s
mental, physical, and social adaptation. Because of this, one s morality begins to erase. It is in the
adaptation of living in a merciless world that the line separating right and wrong begins to blur.
Primo Levi s Survival in Auschwitz and Art Spiegelmans Maus, both represent how morality and
ethicsare challenged in the means of survival.
Man is bound to pursue his own ends by all possible means, while he who errs but once pays
dearly. (Levi 1.3). In one short sentence, Levi sums up the situation: its human nature to use any
means necessary to survive. And that s exactly what happens in the camp. There are many in the
camps who are not able to cope with its horrible circumstances. Unfortunately, those who are unable
to cope result in animalistic behavior. When being exposed to inhumane conditions, one begins to
act inhumane. Null is an example of one who regresses into an unconscious state of being. Levi
presents Null as an example of one who has resulted in doing anything and everything to survive.
Levi recounts, when he speaks, when he looks around, he gives the impression of being empty

Literary Uses Of Hyperbole In Go Ask Alice
Hyperbole: A hyperbole is an exaggerated statement or claim not meant to be taken literally. In
Go Ask Alice, the author uses this literary device effectively by using the exaggeration to
illustrate how the character is feeling. Throughout a lot of the book, she is feeling very sad and
overwhelmed. In the very beginning of the book, she says, And now the whole world is cold and
gray and unfeeling. This is an exaggeration because the whole world isn t literally cold and gray,
but that is how she is seeing it. As the reader, I can get a better understanding of her feelings by her
exaggerations.
Details (selection of detail): Having detail in your writing is very important and can make the
difference in the piece of literature. Detail can help the reader have a better understanding of what
they are reading. On page 134, the author writes, It s a good thing most people bleed on the inside
or this would be a gory, blood smeared Earth. Anonymous is explaining her feelings about the
world around her using immense detail. As the reader, I can have a better idea of how she is
seeing and describing her world. Simile: A simile is a figure of speech that compares of two things
that are different than each other in order to make a description of something more prominent. An
example of when this is used in the book is when it says, Well, like oil and water, I can t quite
adapt or fit, on page 18. She is comparing to how oil and water don t mix together to her own
situations

Analyzing Jack London s Popular Love Story The Sea-Wolf
Summary:
In this article, Eric Carl Link analyzes Jack London s popular love story The Sea Wolf. He argues
that the ending isn t as sentimental as it s readers may think. Link suggests that London s reason to
writing this love story between characters Humphrey Van Weyden and Maud Brewster is that
London was working out some of the implications of an array of ideas informing the intellectual
climate of his time (Link 172).
London is typically known for his adventure stories, but Link notes that the nature and meaning of
love, marriage, and sex were of interest to London throughout his career (Link 173). He was well
aware of this theme in several of his stories. Link believes the love plot between Humphrey and
Maud can be explained by the law of propinquity and the law of affinity. London was a true
naturalist and believed in many philosophies, especially those proposed by Darwin and Max
Nordau. Nordau wrote an essay called The Natural History of Love in which Nordau suggests that
propinquity and affinity are twin concepts (Link 181). Link sums this up to be the basis of the love
triangle created in The Sea Wolf.
Link concludes his essay by saying affinity is a law of nature and governs everything from the
bonding of elements in a molecule to the bonding of humans in love ... Show more content on

Link could have included more of the background of the story and why Jack London wrote it.
He delved a minimal bit by saying it was made during one of London s many love affairs, but it
would have been nice to understand more about what London may have gone through while he
wrote the story. Another thing that would have made the analysis stronger is if Link would have
had more reasons to support his thesis. He may have had a lot of evidence, but he only had three
reasons. It didn t seem to be enough to justify his thesis. Despite these flaws, there were some
reasons I was able to connect with The Law of

Forgiveness Essay
Forgiveness
Christ Jesus some two thousand years ago came into this world to bring redemption for our sins.
He did this through his death and resurrection, or what we refer to as the pascal mystery. We still
encounter the saving presence of the
Lord in the sacraments and in the Word. In each and every sacrament we come face to face with
quot;the grace of God our Savior quot; (Titus 2:11). It is this redemption of sins aspect of the
sacraments that I will be examine. In the past couple of century we have focused are attention
primarily on the Sacrament of Penance as the means to obtain forgiveness of sins after Baptism.
We have come to focus on it so much that it has come to be, for most Catholics, ... Show more

In the second and up to the sixth century A.D. a Christian could only receive the Sacrament of
Penance once after Baptism. The penitent would have to first confess before his or her bishop. The
penitent would then be required to participate in the quot;order of penitents quot; of the early
Church. This required the penitent to wear special clothes, and the penitent would have to go to a
special place with other penitents when worshipping with the community. The community would
pray for those in the quot;order of penitents quot; during the worship serves, and the bishop would
lay his hands on the penitents. But this laying on of hands did not take on the character of
absolution until it was done during the worship serves on Thursday of Holy Week. The penitents
were not allowed to receive
Eucharist because the penitents were excommunicated, excluded from Communion.
After a period of probation, prescribed by the bishop, the penitent would be absolved of the sins
the individual committed. The bishop would do this by laying his hands on the penitent. The
typical time for this reconciliation to take place was on Thursday of Holy Week before the
Baptisms took place. The reason it was done at this time was because the early Church believed that
both
Baptism and Penance were both sacraments that brought about forgiveness of sins and that they
should be prepared for at the same time. It was just this type

Volunteering In The Nonprofit Sector
3. What is volunteering? How is this important in the nonprofit sector and within our country?
What factors might influence an increase or decrease in volunteer recruitment? What kind of
volunteer retaining strategies your organization will use? Why? By definition, to volunteer is to
freely offer to do something. In terms of the nonprofit sector, having volunteers for your
organisation is essential to its success. Any company, especially a nonprofit, needs people
working for it. While most businesses offer to pay their employees, a nonprofit functions in a
different manner. Considering that a nonprofit does most of its work for a charitable cause, it
does not have the ability to pay people a salary in exchange for working for it. As a result,... Show

It is incredibly important within the nonprofit sector because of the amount money given to the
nonprofits. Each and every year, nonprofits across the globe receive millions in donations and
funding in order to execute their tasks. The reason why people need to trust nonprofits with the
money they are given is because the lust to use the the money for personal benefit is compelling.
The leaders who run the organisation can be corrupt, so establishing rapport and a relationship
with them allows for the trust factor to be there. Once it is there, the public will feel as if that
nonprofit is less likely to use the money they receive for personal gain. The public view s the
nonprofit sector as one that wants to help others around them. Over the course of history, the other
two sectors have been plagued with corruption, which is another reason as to why trust within the
nonprofit sector is extremely important. The public needs to be able to put its faith in the fact that
one of the three sectors is genuinely there to offer assistance to those in need. Overall, if trust is
not built, there will be absolutely no reason for the public to put its faith in any sector, thus
creating an uneasy relationship between the two. As long as there is trust within one of the sectors,
there is hope that one day the other two will be able to be trusted on the same level as the

Advertising Influences And Growth Of Advertising
Advertising influences and growth
An industry that is growing and becoming more common around the globe is the advertising
industry. As this industry grows however there are insecurities and they are tracking people s
actions online and gaining an abundance of information on people. In game advertisements
appear on free games or applications that the user has on their phones and a valid solution to this
problem is in game rewards. The advertisement industry gets bigger each day and in game
advertisements are getting more adaptive to the user s preferences. Many developers are making it

This was greatly adapted in the 1950 s and has moved onwards, becoming more common in the
present. Subliminal advertising largely started in movie theaters, where in cinemas they would
strew messages saying drink Coca Cola (Sheehan, K. B. 2013). The drink Coca Cola was a phrase
that would appear on the screen during the start of the movies and during the intermission and it
would subconsciously impulse the viewer to buy Coca Cola from the food court. Coming into the
future this method is used in videogames where while playing you are met with company logos
upon starting the game and thereafter shown products from other companies that are placed within
the game. Some of the oldest advertisements that appear are from canned beverage companies and
now newcomers such as car companies are coming into play, all the while polluting our screens
with more subliminal advertising. The introduction of subliminal advertisements into video games
has become the next step for many companies taking advantage of a person getting engulfed in the
game screen in front of them. In relative concept, companies are taking advantage of the real estate
that is your television or your computer and even your mobile phone to get you to buy their
products.
Advertising is the best method for businesses to convey their products to the consumers because
they make it look good through their eyes. The internet is being used to advertise also as

Role Of Eglin Air Force Base During World War II
Looking back to World War II, nobody ever thinks about who contributed to the war and how he
or she contributed whether it be money, work, or even his or her own life. Few people in Florida
and even in our local area understand the important role Eglin Air Force Base played during World
War II. The primary mission of the Base during World War II was to perform operational suitability
testing for the Army Air Corps.
Eglin Air Force Base was originally started as Valparaiso Airport in 1933. There was a purchase of
an arrow head shaped parcel of 137 acres. The area was cleared for use as an airdrome. On 1 March
1935, application was made for an FERA grant to pave the runways and to build an office, a

Accelerated aircraft and armament test began in September 1941, three months before Pearl
Harbor. In May 1941, the Army Air Corps designated Eglin as the Air Corps Proving Ground,
removing it from the jurisdiction of the Southeast Air Corps Training Command and placing the
base immediately under the control of the Chief of Air Corps. The primary purpose of the Proving
Ground was to provide a station for tactical test of aircraft armament and accessory equipment and
of aviation tactics and techniques.
Due to increasing size, Eglin Field was renamed Eglin Field Military Reservation in recognition
of its importance to the Air Corps. Appropriations of $202,536 were announced by Congressman
Bob Sikes of Crestview in mid April 1941 for construction and installation of water, sewage,
electrical facilities, sidewalks, roads, fences, parking areas, landscaping and for the construction
of a sewage disposal plant. Submitted to the WPA headquarters in Washington, DC in late
March, the request received presidential approval in April. Work continued apace on some
projects on a 24 hour a day basis. In order to provide the air arm a greater autonomy in which to
expand more efficiently, the Army Air Corps became the U. S. Army Air Forces (USAAF) in
June 1941. Following the 7 Dec. 1941 attack on Pearl Harbor and the United States entry into

  • 2. The Constitutional And Statutory History Of The Right To understand the present scope of the right to a trial by jury in civil actions, it is necessary to examine the constitutional and statutory history of the right. The United States Constitution has preserved the right to a jury trial in [s]uits at common law, where the value in controversy shall exceed twenty dollars. The New York Constitution provides for trial by juryin civil actions in all cases in which it has heretofore been guaranteed. In addition to the constitutional right, this right has been further codified in CPLR Section 4101. The cases in which jury trials are required are generally those actions that evolved through the common lawcourts versus those developed in the equity courts, which are tried by the court alone. Courts of equity were the Chancery courts and existed historically as an entirely separate department from the Supreme Court, imitating the historical arrangement in place in England. A primary reason for the development of the Chancery courts was to provide a means of redress where the common law provided an inadequate remedy or no remedy at all. In equity, generally the court s power is to direct someone to act or to forbear from acting, which circumstances clearly cannot be redressed by the award of money damages. In New York, with the passage of the 1846 Constitution, law and equity were merged so that jurisdiction could be had by the same tribunal regardless of the nature of the suit. Legal and equitable jurisdictions ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Role Of 2 Youth And Community Organisations The piece will discuss an interagency project application between 2 youth and community organisations, with the aim of securing local authority funding set within the youth commissioning process. This piece will discuss a number of key components which are essential towards an effective partnership and the success of a joint funding proposal. Furthermore this paper will provide a number of areas that need to be considered and avoided in the process of the bid being rejected or suspended. It is over the last 30 years that youth and community groups have experienced a major change in the ways public services have been perceived, managed and provided. Merton et al (2009:94) claim the business model has prevailed and public services, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... PQQ requires an organisation to prove they have relevant required measures and is suitable and sufficiently well managed to be capable of doing the work set out in the proposal, for example experience and knowledge, insurances and policies Hoggarth et al (2009:76). According to the National Youth Agency (2012: 10) there are a number of different descriptions for the commissioning process. However, essentially all follow a process of understand, plan, do and review , which Merton (2009:99) states; is important to recognise that the full commissioning process is more that procurement. If the commissioners, who may also be known as the Children s Trust, are doing their job properly, they will have an eye to completing the full cycle of commissioning. A more in depth look at this cycle can be obtained via NYA (2012:10) the commissioning cycle diagram or see the commissioning framework for Every Child Matters (2006) Policy makers have made it clear cut that local authorities can only provide and commission an integrated youth offer with partners, in particular with organisations and services in the voluntary and community sector Merton (2007:105). According to the NYA (2012:3) before embarking on any commissioning it is important to ensure that: there is a commitment to shared vision, values and principles; there are strong governance arrangements in place; there is a clear remit for the work; and key partners and stakeholders have been identified. • 4. Racial Stereotypes Of Asian-Americans Today, when society talks about diversity, often times, Asian Americans are brought into the conversation and are talked about as highly looked up to individuals, but they haven t always been this way. On television, many times, Asian Americans are represented as nerdy and socially incapable/awkward , Asian American males are mostly shown as being weak and stereotypically awkward, while Asian American females are either shown as exotic or also stereotypically awkward and nerdy, as stated by Takaki in his book Strangers from a Different Shore on page 479, Hopeful a college education can help them [the students] overcome racial obstacles, they realize the need to be serious about their studies. But white college students complain: Asian students are nerds. This very stereotype betrays nervousness fears that Asian American students are raising class grade curves. Though, these representations do only account for the three most popular Asian ethnic groups: Japanese, Chinese and Korean. The other Asian ethnic groups are mostly invisible to society, some groups, such as the Vietnamese Americans and the Hmong Americans, are known for their population size. These groups are also the groups that tend to live in areas that are largely populated with the same race, therefore, congregating to one area. A lot of times, I ve realized from personal experience, that when people realize that I am Asian, they tend to compare me with the stereotypes that are generally associated with being Asian American. Often, I am told that I am tall for being Asian as the stereotypes say that Asians females generally are shorter in stature and are petite with light skin and pin straight black hair. On occasion, I am told that I look more Hawaiian than I do Asian due to my darker skin and bigger build. Though, I do hear a lot of comments regarding my eyes and about how little they are. These experiences have made me believe that the role that Asian Americans play in the race conversation now is that when the conversation turns to Asian America, people automatically look towards stereotypes along with looking at certain traditional cultures often stating things such as, I really like Asian foods or, I think that kimonos are ... • 5. Genogram And Ethnography Analysis The overall process of drawing out my ecomap and genogram was moderately easy. I drew rough drafts of both clinical tools first before completing the final copies. I found this helpful especially for the ecomap because it allowed me to organize the different ecological impacts of my life effectively. I think the hardest part of creating this clinical tool was being able to lay it out so that things that should be connected were close to each other. I liked drawingthe ecomap because it was interesting to see different aspects of my life connected to each other. Thinking of the different parts of my life that I come in contact with came easily to me. In terms of completing the genogram, because I have relatively small family, this was not that ... • 6. Hiv And The Immune System What is HIV HIV , stands for human immunodeficiency virus, it is a virus that attacks the immune system, the immune system protects the body against infection and illness .If the body does not have a strong immune system, It may not be able fight off disease. The virus and the infection it causes are termed HIV. White blood cells are the part of the immune systemthat is important as far as fighting off infection. When a person catches HIV it infects and destroys certain white blood cells called CD4+ cells. If a lot of CD4+ cells are destroyed, the body can no longer fight off infection. When HIV progresses to its last stage it is called AIDS(acquired immunodeficiency syndrome). People with AIDS have a very low number of CD4+ cells and get infections or cancers that do not commonly occur in non infected people. These infections and cancers can be deadly because the immune system is compromised. A common misconception that people have is that AIDS and HIV is the same thing. Having HIV doesn t mean you have AIDS. Even if a patient is never treated for HIV, it still takes a long time for HIV to turn into AIDS sometimes it can take up to 10 to 12 years for HIV to turn into AIDS. When a patient is diagnosed with HIV there are medicines to slow the HIV virus to turning into AIDS, medicines can slow or stop the disease from damaging the immune system. If AIDS does develop there is still hope, medicines can help the immune system become healthy again. With ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Characteristics Of The Unsung Heroes Straughn 1 Mi esha Straughn Dr. Willis 2 October 2017 ENG 101/102 Mini Term The Unsung Heroes Superheroes, astronauts, actors, and princesses are among the answers given when children are asked their desired professions. As they grow up, however, they begin to solidify legitimate professions to support themselves and be happy. Growing up, I knew for a fact that I wanted to be a detective. The idea of solving real cases with real people and interviewing suspects gave me a rush like no other. Helping people has always been a goal of mine. From being a detective, I have also contemplated being a dental hygienist, cosmetologist (like my mother), and even a history teacher. The variety of occupations in the world are almost never ending; there are even jobs that no one has really even thought about. Even though I occasionally change my mind, I have decided to give up my childhood dream of becoming a detective to become a registered nurse (RN). The nursing profession has continued to thrive over time. Because I have seen how often nurses get overlooked, I want to be a part of a profession that knows its worth, learns more than just education, and is beneficial to society. Although they are the unsung heroes of hospitals, schools, and even the military, nurses are essential to communities around the world, and I look forward to entering this profession. The nursing major is a popular choice for many people entering college. This profession continues to grow because of numerous ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. My Passion For Organic Chemistry When I was six, I distinctly remember that my grandfather was diagnosed having an early stage colorectal cancer. He went through a major surgery and recovered with prescription drugs and herbal therapies, which appeared to have a positive additive effect. I was inspired by the ability of the pharmaceuticals in relieving my grandfather s pain, giving him a future, and allowing me to share more memories with him. My passion in studying organic chemistryarises from me realizing there is immense potential embedded in the chemistry principles to develop tools for the treatment of human diseases. Through my undergraduate studies and research, I became determined in pursuing a graduate carrier, in which I aim to grow into an expert in chemical reactivities and an independent scientist who can invent chemistry and contribute to the development of pharmaceuticals. In my sophomore year, I was intensely drawn to organic chemistry in Professor Thomas Maimone s class. The elegant and logical framework of chemical transformations absorbed me. I learned the fundamental roles of organic chemistry in drug discovery and became increasingly interested in solving challenging synthetic problems. I enjoyed the thrill of composing creative pathways to generate complexity, but also found that my knowledge of organic transformations made me limited. Therefore, I fostered my chemical intuition on how and why reactions occur through select graduate level organic chemistry coursework. Motivated by a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

But I don t know if any of that changed my views. I still think becoming a vegetarian is the way to go. Devon: You think? I still think that it is okay to eat meat. The animalsjust need to be raised in a humane manner. Sasha: Eh...I don t know. Animals should just be left alone and be free to roam around in the wild. They should not be tortured like those animals that I saw while visiting that kill floor . Devon: But Sasha, it is not like that everywhere. Devon: I can agree with that too! So, when animals are on the farm, they really don t know what s going to come in the future. Also, if they do get hurt, they are able to get over it quickly and not sit there and think about the pain. Sasha: But it still bothers me that they are not getting treated the same way as humans. I remember in Peter Singers article when he talked about the idea of speciesism. He said that it was an attitude of bias that favored the interest of members of their own species (4). The one species is against the other species. Devon: Well, I can see how that is a good argument. Sasha: And the fact that we treat these animals based on intelligence is also ridiculous. Just because a dog does not understand what it means to vote, society should not consider it less intelligent than us. It is a living thing that deserves the best life. Devon: Okay, but Sasha, you have to also remember that these animals do depend on us to continue to live a good life. Without us, they would be put in the wild and be put at risk of dying fast. In Pollan s article, he discussed how animals live longer in captivity and how domesticated animals can t live on their own in the wild (6). Yeah, they will not be living the absolute free life, but they will be protected and nourished if needed. Sasha: Hmmm I never really noticed that. But, do you see how these animals are being treated like a tool? In Regan s article, he said that animals should not be treated as a means ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Judicial Review Essay JUDICIAL REVIEW AND THE INDIAN COURTS Introduction Judicial Review is basically an aspect of judicial power of the state which is exercised by the courts to determine the validity of a rule of law or an action of any agency of the state. The courts have the power of testing the validity of legislative as well as other governmental action with reference to the provisions of the constitution. The judiciary tries to undo the harm that is being done by the legislature and executive and they also try to provide every citizen what has been guaranteed by the constitution. Under the constitution of India parliament is not supreme. Its powers are limited in the two ways. First, there is the division of powers between the union and the states. Parliament is competent to pass laws only with respect to those subjects which are guaranteed to the citizens against every form of legislative encroachment. The power of judicial review of legislation is given to the judiciary both by the political theory and text of the constitution. There are several specific provisions in the Indian constitution, judicial review of legislation such as Act 13, 32, 131 136, 143, 226, 145, 246, 251, 254 and 372. It comprises the power of a court to hold unconstitutional and unenforceable any law or order based upon such law or any other action by a public authority which is inconsistent or in conflict with the basic law of the land. In fact, the study of constitutional law may be described as a study of the doctrine of judicial review in action. The courts have power to strike down any law, if they believe it to be unconstitutional. In the case I.R. Coelho v. • 12. Contemporary Social Issues Of DACA Part I Introduction: The Contemporary Social Issue of DACA A social issue that is currently whirling around the United States is the discussion of what is going to happen with DACA recipients. DACA stands for The Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals and they are also commonly referred to as Dreamers (Michelle Mark 2017). The DACA act was set in place in 2012 by President Barrack Obama and it provided young immigrants the chance to apply for temporary protection from deportation. Often times children are too young to know what is going on and their parents bring them into the United States so they are then protected under the DACA act. It is also only eligible to immigrants who have been in the United States since 2007 and were under 16 years of age; 30 or younger as of June 2012, in high school or have a diploma or GED and a clean criminal record (Dara Lind 2017). The program does not grant legal status, put them on a path to citizenship and or legalization (Michelle Mark 2017). The protection does allow these people to get authorization to work and obtain a valid driver s license in some states. DACA provides the opportunity for them to have the chance to further their education, buy cars, homes and even the possibility of starting a business (Dara Lind 2017). Currently 800, 000 people depend on the DACA Act in the United States (Michelle Mark). Without the DACA Act, the recipients are essentially an illegal immigrant. • 14. The Importance Of Film Evaluation The evaluation of a film assigns some form of value to a film and the experience you encountered while watching the film. Evaluation can imply the criteria and standards that you can argue about to place value on a film. Thus, giving people a reason to question a film to develop reasons, make such standards are met and to understand the film. These standards can stem from the classical evaluation and pluralistic category method which has given viewers a blueprint of how you should properly evaluate a film. There are certain ways that you can go about judging a films effectiveness. For instance, the classical evaluation method imposes the use of cinematicity within three concepts that all films should have. Like medium specificity, cinematicity allows film to distinguish itself from theatre with the use of close ups, camera movement, etc.; thus, creates a universal structure for critics to judge a film. This is based on the creative style of the directorand how much the viewers admire the way the has stuck with its cinematicity. However, the pluralistic category does not base its evaluation on style and opinion. In all, these types of evaluations are used in different ways which will be further explained throughout this essay. • 16. The Character Of Billy s The Landlady The Landlady Even though the gruesome, ghastly and demonic story known as The Landlady ends in a disturbing way, it portrays many characteristics about the protagonist, Billy. There are numerous ways to characterize Billy, a 17 year old kid on his first business trip in the strange city of Bath, England. Billy begins his journey to a hotel known as the Bell and Dragon but stumbles to a halt when he sees a seemingly cozy bed and breakfast that catches his eye. For a few pages everything seems great; unfortunately for Billy, he has some flaws which ultimately lead to his shocking death at the hands of a demented landlady. These are curiosity, a tendency to miss important clues, and gullibility. The gullible nature of Billy Weaver is quite interesting as he does not show any sign of stupidity, but his gullible state got the best of him. There are numerous reasons to portray the nature of Billy as abnormal. The first sign shown by Billy is when he figures out the cost of staying at the Bed and Breakfast for a night. In the passage, it states Five and sixpence a night, including breakfast (Dahl 2). He subsequently says it was fantastically cheap (Dahl 2). but he never thought of the consequences he would face or think why it was so cheap, as many places would charge twice as much. • 20. A New And Accurate Digital Approximation Of The Fractional... Abstract In this article a new and accurate digital approximation of the fractional order differentiator (FOD) in the form of FIR filter is presented. This approach is based on power series expansion of fractional order systems. First, the first order digital differentiators can be simply derived from a classical continuous time approximate differentiator by using the Bilinear transformation. Then, the transfer function of digital FOD is obtained by taking fractional power of the transfer function of conventional first order digital differentiator. Next, the power series expansion is used to design digital FIR fractional order differentiator, with closed form formula. Finally, some examples are presented through the paper to illustrate the performance and the effectiveness of the proposed design method. Keywords Fractional order differentiator; FIR filter; power series expansion; Bilinear transformation. I.INTRODUCTION In the last decades, considerable interest in fractional order operators has been simulated by the applications of these concepts in different areas of engineering [1 10]. Analog and digital implementations of this type of operators are then important research topics. Because they cannot be exactly implemented, only a limited implementation can however be achieved in a frequency band of interest using approximation techniques. In reference [4], we can find a good summary of the existing methods of their analog implementation by rational functions. In ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Most of the South after the Civil War was destroyed. Plantations and crops were damaged or completely destroyed. The South needed to rebuild and recover from the devastation. Reconstruction was meant to help the South become better and join back into the Union after war. Two groups played a big part during Reconstruction. Reflection On African American Studies Personal Reflection Introduction to African American Studies was the class that I decided to take this summer because I am genuinely interested in learning more about the cultures and lifestyles of African Americans through out history and I want to further my knowledge beyond just learning about what was taught to me in secondary school. I do not know much about African American studies as I have not taken any courses on it or relating to it in the past but I hope that I can gain a lot of information on the topic through out this intellectual experience. I also hope to gain a better understanding of the history of Africans and African Americas and be able to dive deeper into this topic instead of just hitting the surface as I feel as though my previous experiences with this topic have covered. In just this first weeks lesson I have learned about the three great principles that characterize the Black Intellectual Tradition and how these three principles are used and perceived. During my secondary education experience some of the things that I have learned about the African or African American experience were the slave trade and slavery of Africans during early American and that these slaves were used for things like farming, working in mills, and servants to the rich, all against their will and most without any pay or human rights. I also had learned about the equality movement in American during the 19th century and the movement to abolish slavey and how this had lead ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 34. The History Of Mathematics In A Large Nutshell Math through the Ages provides an interesting and concise analysis of the mathematical culture of different societies in history. The section The History of Mathematics in a Large Nutshell provides an interesting discussion of Greek mathematics. The mathematics of the culture both influenced and was influenced by the culture of the society. The Greeks were most likely the most important historical society in the Western world. They spread their vast knowledge and affected the mathematical traditions of the world. According to Greek historians, their mathematical pursuits began somewhere around 600 B.C.E. Our earliest record of Greek mathematics, however, is from 300 B.C.E. Unfortunately, most of what we know about the Greek mathematical tradition comes from the 3rd and 4th century. These works seem to do a decent job at preserving the past, but how well they preserve the works scholars cannot know (Berlinghoff Gouvea, 2004, p. 14). One reason for the Greeks extensive influence on mathematics was the broad range of Greek speaking people. Greek mathematics is not limited to Greece, but rather extends throughout the Mediterranean world. Greek was the language of the educated in most of the Mediterranean. Building on the work of the Egyptians, the Greeks made many great mathematical achievements (Berlinghoff Gouvea, 2004, p. 15). The Greek numeration system was very similar to the Roman s and rather primitive compared to that of the Babylonians. The system used the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 37. Le Moulin De La Galette Le Moulin de la Galette was painted in France by Vincent Van Gogh in 1887. This particular iteration of Le Moulin de la Galette is just one of many in a series done by Van Gogh. This piece depicts a beautiful scene of Montmartre in Paris. The background of this work appears to be a deep blue Paris sky during the day. However, what immediately allures the viewer s eye is the Moulin de Blute Fin, which is a large decommissioned windmill located in the upper center right portion of the canvas. Anterior to the Moulin de Blute Fin is a mixture of fences gardens, sheds, and shacks scattered about the hill. In addition to the Moulin de Blute Fin, a much smaller windmill, the Moulin Г Poivre, can be found on the left side of the canvas. If one close enough they will also notice a man standing near the frontmost fence. One wouldn t be able to tell what exactly that man is doing, but while observing the painting in person, it is clear that he is painting. The bottom half of the portrait is filled entirely green grass, dainty bushes, yellow flowers, and other foliage. Finally, towards the very bottom of the canvas the blades of grass and flowers appear much more detailed than those above it. Their thick and deliberate brushstrokes allow them to appear much closer to the viewer than the rest of the shrubbery. Vincent van Gogh was born in Groot Zundert, Netherlands on March 30, 1853. • 45. Using A Virtual Private Network VPNs By Samantha Fitzpatrick Prepared for Dr. Ford 30 April 2015 Introduction There is a growing need to connect to internal networks from locations other than the regular and secure office. Employers and organizations need to realize that employees often need to connect to internal private networks from home, hotels, airports, etc. A solution for this problem is using a virtual private network (VPN), which is a network that uses public network paths, but maintains the security and protection of private networks. Secure communication is expensive, but VPNs allow organizations to have a number of discrete communication services for a large amount of clients. It is cheaper to have a copious amount of virtual networks on a couple physical devices than having a copious amount of physically discrete devices accomplishing the same objective. Methodology VPNs transmit data through secure tunneling. A packet is first encapsulated in a new packet with a new header and then sent through the tunnel, which is normally IPSec, L2TP, PPTP, or SSL. Both points of the tunnel need to support the protocol used. To provide access to the internet, the packet with a private IP address can be sent inside of a packet with a global IP address. For security, VPNs use encryption to make sure packets are indecipherable without the proper keys, which provides data confidentiality. They also provide data integrity using a message digest to ensure the information has not been tampered with ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 47. Morality And Ethics Of The Auschwitz And Art Spiegelman s... Morality is adaptable in extreme situations. The Holocaust is an example of what happens to one s morality when forced to adapt to animalistic behavior in order to survive. Life in Auschwitz required a purging of one s human dignity for survival. Prisoners were constantly exposed to perpetual dehumanization, which inevitably led to the dehumanization, and restoration of one s mental, physical, and social adaptation. Because of this, one s morality begins to erase. It is in the adaptation of living in a merciless world that the line separating right and wrong begins to blur. Primo Levi s Survival in Auschwitz and Art Spiegelmans Maus, both represent how morality and ethicsare challenged in the means of survival. Man is bound to pursue his own ends by all possible means, while he who errs but once pays dearly. (Levi 1.3). In one short sentence, Levi sums up the situation: its human nature to use any means necessary to survive. And that s exactly what happens in the camp. There are many in the camps who are not able to cope with its horrible circumstances. Unfortunately, those who are unable to cope result in animalistic behavior. When being exposed to inhumane conditions, one begins to act inhumane. Null is an example of one who regresses into an unconscious state of being. • 49. Analyzing Jack London s Popular Love Story The Sea-Wolf Summary: In this article, Eric Carl Link analyzes Jack London s popular love story The Sea Wolf. He argues that the ending isn t as sentimental as it s readers may think. Link suggests that London s reason to writing this love story between characters Humphrey Van Weyden and Maud Brewster is that London was working out some of the implications of an array of ideas informing the intellectual climate of his time (Link 172). London is typically known for his adventure stories, but Link notes that the nature and meaning of love, marriage, and sex were of interest to London throughout his career (Link 173). He was well aware of this theme in several of his stories. Link believes the love plot between Humphrey and Maud can be explained by the law of propinquity and the law of affinity. London was a true naturalist and believed in many philosophies, especially those proposed by Darwin and Max Nordau. Nordau wrote an essay called The Natural History of Love in which Nordau suggests that propinquity and affinity are twin concepts (Link 181). In the second and up to the sixth century A.D. a Christian could only receive the Sacrament of Penance once after Baptism. The penitent would have to first confess before his or her bishop. The penitent would then be required to participate in the quot;order of penitents quot; of the early Church. This required the penitent to wear special clothes, and the penitent would have to go to a special place with other penitents when worshipping with the community. The community would pray for those in the quot;order of penitents quot; during the worship serves, and the bishop would lay his hands on the penitents. But this laying on of hands did not take on the character of absolution until it was done during the worship serves on Thursday of Holy Week. The penitents were not allowed to receive Eucharist because the penitents were excommunicated, excluded from Communion. After a period of probation, prescribed by the bishop, the penitent would be absolved of the sins the individual committed. The bishop would do this by laying his hands on the penitent. The typical time for this reconciliation to take place was on Thursday of Holy Week before the Baptisms took place.
