Essay about Symbols in the Briefcase in “Invisible Man” by...
Towards the end of the book Invisible Man by Ralph Ellison, the narrator who remains unnamed
thought the entire book, risks his life to save a briefcase filled with seemingly random assorted items.
But later in the book the narrator is forced to burn the items in his briefcase in order to find his way
out of a sewer he gets stuck in. Closer reading reveals that the items in his briefcase are more than
random assorted items, but instead are symbols. Each one of those symbols represents a point in the
narrator s life where he is either betrayed or made invisible by the people around him. Through the
book the two main recurring themes are betrayal and invisibility and the narrator keeps these symbols
with him because they represent who he ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The crowd continually asks him to repeat himself and at one point the narrator miss speaks and says
social equality instead of social responsibility. This immediate arouses the whites in the crowd. When
they yell threats at him he Denys what he said and claims that the blood in his mouth caused him to
misspeak. In this incident the whites in the crowd immediately stop any variation from what they want
to hear coming out of the mouth of an African American. This is another way that he is oppressed into
being what people want him to be and therefore becoming invisible. The narrator also feels betrayed
when he sees Clifton with the doll. At that time the narrator still considered himself a part of the
brotherhood, and since the brotherhood would never allow such a thing to be sold, Clifton is betraying
the brotherhood and also the narrator himself. Another symbolic item in the narrator s briefcase is the
Sambo doll that brother Clifton was selling illegally on the street. It is not the doll itself, but instead
the circumstances surrounding Clifton s death that make the doll significant. Before his death, the
narrator meets brother Clifton, and describes him as the ideal man. He is educated, well dressed,
muscular, and has a stylish swag about him, that the narrator admires. But we don t know Clifton long
before he is shot. Clifton suddenly drops from his original

critical thinking #1 Essay
1) Which of the four basic strategy types were used by GM? Explain your rationale. GM is a defender.
Even though they slimmed down dramatically they still managed to regain their title from Toyota.
They are experts at what they make and I am sure they would use the slogan We re sticking with the
basics. GM wants to down size the number of platforms they use so they can make the most out of the
fewer platforms.
2) Based on the case, what is GM s vision? Do you think it is realistic? Explain. GM s vision is to
make fewer platforms but use the same basic parts. One goal is fewer auto platforms. GM aims to
build vehicles all over the world that are made from the same basic parts and assembled in plants that
use the same tooling ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I do think these goals are attainable they just have to stick with the plan and make sure they have a
back up plan in case something does not work out right.
4) Using Figure 5.5, describe the extent to which GM is using the planning/control cycle. They made
their plan they are taking away some of the platforms. They are carrying out the plan by cutting those
platforms. They are controlling the direction by using the profits and going from there. They
controlled the direction by improving the future for the company. I think they are using the
Planning/Control cycle to the fullest. They are following the steps.
5) What did you learn about planning based on this case? Explain I learned that sometime you can not
get ahead of your self. Just because the market is doing good does not mean you should make so many
models. You never know when your industry is going to take a hit and when you have so many
variations of one product it is hard to make each one better. Just stick with the basics. Make your fist
model the best it can be and then move on. You need to follow the Planning/Control cycle. Make your
plan, Carry out your plan, Control your direction by getting results, Take corrective action. Make sure
you follow your plan and always have a back up plan!

Women s Roles in God s Bits of Wood Essay
1) God s Bits of Wood is an historical novel—one based on actual events. From the novel, to what
extent and how did women drive events and what were the differences between their goals and those
of men? Why the differences?
The novel God s Bits of Wood by Sembene Ousmane is an account of the strike Senegalese
trainworkers underwent in pursuit of equal benefits and compensation from their French employers. In
an effort to coerce the workers into returning to their jobs, the French cut off the water and food
supply to the three villages wherein these events transpire: Thies, Dakar, and Bamako. Ousmane s
novel explores the way in which these hardships evolve the worker s and their families till the strike is
ultimately resolved. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The hunger visible in their children eyes did not cause them to despair and lose their resolve, rather it
helped to develop unity amongst them as they faced this hardship together. For instance, when
Ramatoulaye killed the ram Vendredi, the meat from its bones was distributed to all those in need. So
when the French soldiers came to collect her for breaking a law, they did not face one lone woman but
an army of women prepared to fight. Consequently, the soldiers were driven away. This first victory
showed the women the strength they had as long as they worked as a united front.
Women drove events in the novel because with the exception of the first fight between the workmen
and the soldiers, primarily all physical revolts by the Senegalese were the work of the women. There
were three reasons for this. First, whereas a man physically revolting would simply be killed, it was
highly distasteful to the French to kill a woman or child. Second, this was the most effective manner
for the women to aid the strike, since they were largely ignored and could not participate in the union
meetings. Third, the women tired of scavenging food without success and watching each other waste
away. Working actively to benefit the strike gave meaning to their lives. Also the French, who viewed
the African women as ignorant whores whose primary worth was for sexual pleasure, also consistently
acted to provoke them. Arresting Ramatoulaye, assaulting Ad jibid ji and her

Sikhism In Sikhism
Sikhism is the fifth largest religion in the world is five hundred years old. Like Hinduism, Sikhism
also believes in the endless cycle of rebirth and the karma generated past life affecting the place where
you are born. The founder of this religion was Guru Nanak and his followers became Sikhs. Guru
Nanak was born in Hindu family in northern India with exposure to both Hindu and Muslim religions.
Kings of Lodhi dynasty were the rulers and conditions in the country were sewer. Adultery and
debauchery were the common practices at that time and young women were caught in the open market
without any restriction (Singh 1). Marriageable and grown up girls were taken away from their
parents. Girls were mistreated and parents were afraid to give birth to girl child so they began to
murder their own girl child. Thousands of girls were put to death and buried in the ground. Pregnant
women were considered as burdensome to her husband and if women gave birth to female child it was
considered bad and everyone weep on the birth of female child. Instead of killing their daughters some
parents began to marry their daughters as soon as they were born. Many people adapted the system of
childhood marriage and it soon became a culture (Singh 2). Sri Guru Nanak Dev ji was born in 1469
in Talwandi, a village in the Sheikhupura district, 65 kms. west of Lahore. He was married in 1487 and

Essay On Aurangzeb
Aurangzeb s religious policy is based on the Islamic theory of kinship. Aurangzeb was felt that he had
not only become greater than administer the empire in a better way, but also to protect and strengthen
particularly its Sunni Islam faith. He was a strict follower of the Sunni sect, to the extent that he
persecuted the members of the Shiite sect. In order to achieve its objective of strengthening Islam, his
father was imprisoned, he killed his brothers, he forced his son Akbar to revolt and have a miserable
life. He also forced the Rajputs, the Jat Sikhs and Marathas to revolt, destroyed the states of Bijapur
and Golconda and imposed political, economic and social disabilities of their Muslim subjects in order
to convert them to Islam. Believes that all Aurangzeb Mughal rulers who ... Show more content on

Homeless Shelter Analysis
The reason we chose this topic was because we find it incredulous the amount of people who don t
have a home, according to The Orange County Register, an overnight count was made in January of
2015 and it showed that 4,400 people were homeless. Orange County s number is fairly small
compared to LA county, where the number of homeless is huge, with 82,000 homeless (Aguilar).
People become homeless for numerous reasons; Foreclosure, decrease in public assistance, high
healthcare costs, the lack of affordable housing, victims of domestic violence, mental illnesses, and
addiction disorders. As you can see drug addiction is not the only way people become homeless.
Everyone deserves a second chance and having this shelter would help many individuals get back on

Economic Performance And Its Impact On Financial Performance
Economic performance is whether the company strategy and its execution have contributed to the
ultimate performance. Economic performance is mainly reflected in four aspects: profitability,
operating capacity, solvency and ability to resist risks. Economic performance can be shown in the
impact of managing cost, the effect of property management, the influence of the distribution of
capitals, and the composing of the shareholders equity return rate. The standpoint of profitability
evaluation is economic added value and the rate of rise (profit). Choosing EVA in the net assets
income rate, the return on total capitals and income per share index, this evaluation of enterprise
profitability can reflect the condition of capital net income and capital gains, this is also the
development trend of enterprise performance evaluation index. Besides, sales revenue (profit) growth
rate index is used to measure enterprise growth. Operation ability can promote firms to enhance
capital management, increase the service efficiency of property and improve profitability. The primary
evaluation indexes are: stock turnover, debt receivable turnover and permanent assets turnover. The
strength of the debt paying ability is the economic and fiscal status of a company . Moreover, it is a

However, the vocabulary he chooses is spelled correctly and most of the times it s appropriate for the

to ask to repeat or to say something slower. That probably comes from his ability to communicate
effectively and from the habit of travelling. However, again when it comes to specific use of tenses
(such as present continuous used for planned future) he gets lost. Reading: I ve observed him in class
and he seems to not like particularly reading tasks, when he s doing pair work he starts making up
jokes and gets easily distracted. But then when he arrives at the activity after the reading he enjoys it
more and starts concentrate. Generally speaking with Corrado we have to consider that he s an
elementary student and he makes many mistakes because he tries to use complicated structures for his
level such as present perfect and relative clauses. I think the best thing about Corrado is that he s very
enthusiastic and he s a natural leader in the group so when he likes an activity (which most of the
times he does exept maybe for reading) he s able to draw the whole class. That s why I think me and
my colleagues tend to choose him as our volounteer for demontrations, because he s not afraid of

Analysis of She Walks in Beauty by Lord Byron Essay
Analysis of She Walks in Beauty by Lord Byron She Walks in Beauty is a poem in which the author
speaks of the physical beauty of a woman; a female who the author encountered. This encounter lead
him to visualize a great distinct physical image of her so he began to speak of this phenomenal
attractiveness. A special quality in her was being able to be identified with the heaven. Beautiful like
the stars and clearly visible as a cloudless night. The poem ?She Walks in Beauty? came by as an
inspiration to the author. This occurred at an event attended by the author where he meet his cousin

How Chinese Cinema Has Reflected And Shaped The Idea Of...
Cinema and movies are the true reflections of nation as well as society, both in the present and past.
The movies and its modernisms occasionally have to catch up to the idea of nation, however
sometimes it leads and shapes nation too. According to Berry and Farquhar (2006), Chinese movies
have played a critical role in shaping nation and national identity amongst Chinese. This essay will
mainly focus on how Chinese cinema has reflected and shaped the idea of nation. Apart from that, the
history of Chinese cinema, other famous traits such as Beijing opera and martial arts are also debated
in how it reflects nation. Additionally, I will examine how the framing and characterization of Lee,
and in specific in his role as Chen Zhen in the film Fist of Fury compresses within the masculine body
of Bruce Lee the character of Chinese nationalism and masculinity. What do cinema and movies
actually mean? The term cinema is defined as the art of moving pictures or a visual media that tells
stories, exposes reality and conveys messages. On the other hand, movies, also called a film or motion
picture is also a story that is communicated with animating images. Besides that, the cinema often
reflects to specific degree the culture, traditions and heritage of a nation, its historical concerns as well
as its societies enjoyments, sorrows and hopes throughout history. Nowadays, many people around the
world may watch movies as just a form of entertainment, but it is certainly more than

Roman Funeral Eulogy
The upper class
The class in society a Roman held, played a huge role in how elaborate the funeral ceremony was, and
how well the body was preserved.
The wealthy would be guarentted an elaborate ceremony. The body of the deceased would be on
display for mourning for a lengthy period of time, and treated with extreme care, as explained earlier.
The body would never be left alone as it was belived this would be bad luck for the deceaseds
afterlife. After the mourning period, the funeral wpuld take place. It is a common misperception that
the funeral was a big parade, when in reality it was a quiet affair, and the funeral procession was more
of a celebration.
A Eulogy was usually only read for the very wealthy, differing from how funerals are conducted today.
However these were usually resrved only for the families with links to power. An example of how a
eulogy would go, is seen in Julius Caesars eulogy to his Aunt Julia, known as laudatio Iuliae amitae.

Roman society was truly all about the wealth a person had in everything that was done. Death was one
of the very few things however to where even the poorest romans were treated decently. This is
because it was viewed politically and socially right to lay a soul to rest. If the wealthy didn t assist the
lower class with this, they would be haunted by the evil spirits (or so they believed). For this reason,
burial soceities were formed, known as the collegia. This meant that each week, citizens in the lower
class would put a small amount of money towards this, meaning that when they died, the collegia

`` Well Behaved Women Seldom Make History ``
Multiple Meanings Laurel Thatcher Ulrich, in a scholarly article written in 1976, wrote that well
behaved women seldom make history (Ulrich XIII). Over time, that phrase has became a slogan for
feminists around the world. It appears on many products and media, like shirts, jewelry, and even wine
glasses. At the time she wrote it, she meant for it to mean that women who are well behaved do not get
their stories told, even if they did something extraordinary or heroic, though now, people interpret it in
many different ways. Fig. 1. Well behaved women seldom make history shirt (Customized Girl). The
most common product with the phrase well behaved women seldom make history being sold on
Amazon is, by far, shirts. There is a variety ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This interpretation, compared to how Ulrich meant for the quote to be interpreted is quite different.
Ulrich wanted the quote to represent how women who do not do something bad, rarely get their stories
told, no matter how heroic their actions were, while the creators of this shirt want women to speak out,
to make change, and to create equality for everyone, which, by some people, is seen as wrong for
women to do. Although what the designers of this product seem to be aiming for is different than what
Ulrich originally meant for her quote, I am sure that Ulrich still would support that message. Fig. 2.
Well behaved women seldom make history necklace (Amazon) Another product that stood out was a
necklace. It is a bronze colored chain with a round, white pendant, that is maybe an inch in diameter.
The pendant has the quote well behaved women seldom make history on it, with Laurel Thatcher
Ulrich credited beneath it. Similarly to the shirt, women and history are in a bigger font (see Fig. 2). It
is being sold by a seller called DSD, whose main products seem to be similar jewelry, many of which
are small, literature related products, with quotes from various books on them. This product, out of the
three analyzed here, is probably the closest to how Ulrich meant for her quote to be interpreted. It is a
small pendant that people are not going to be able to read

The Legal Implications Of Surrogacy
One of the most popular commercial places that surrogacy s take place is in India where it is legalized
and much cheaper than in the United States (Gentleman, p.1). In India women sign surrogacy
contracts that legally bind them to be implanted with another woman s egg, grow the baby, give birth
to the child, and then hand over the baby and all her rights to the biological parents (Sandel, p.91).
Even with surrogacy being legal, there is much debate about the ethical ramifications it brings to
society. All three sources believe that surrogacy acts as wombs for rent for the wealthy families of the
western hemisphere (Warner, p.2, Gentleman, p.2). Sandel argues the ethicality of the free market may
not always be as free as they seem, arguing that there are certain goods that are degraded when bought
and sold (Sandel, p.75). In India women are being exploited by the surrogacy contracts having their
reproductive systems put on the market. In Justice, Sandel claims that it is unethical in his two
objections tainted consent and degradation of higher goods.
Sandel objects to surrogacy contracts claiming the exchange of human beings for monetary
compensation is degrading of higher goods, the higher goods being human life (Sandel, p.96).
Claiming there are some things money shouldn t buy Sandel argues babies should not be included in a
market transaction (Sandel, p.96). In India, the practice of surrogacy has morphed into an online
shopping experience where people sift through

Research Study On Mesenchymal Stem Cells
Mesenchymal stem cells (MSC) are fibroblast like structural cells that are found in bone marrow,
skeletal muscle, and other connective tissues. MSC derived from bone marrow (BM) have been shown
to be self renewing and are capable of differentiation into a variety of stromal cell types including
bone forming osteoblasts, fat storing adipocytes, and neurons. Another trait exhibited by BM MSC is
their supportive role in hematopoiesis (blood genesis). This behavior has been utilized to enhance
efficacy of co transplantation of hematopoietic stem cells (HSC). BM MSC are gathered using painful
procedures in which penetrating bone to access the marrow. This article investigates the umbilical
cord (UC) as a source of MSC and compares the cells gathered in this manner with BM MSC.
Previous methods for obtaining UC MSC involved extracting the cells from the single vein found on
the umbilical cord. This method was met with 30% success with this group. A new method involving
the use of the whole cord was created and attempted. This method was then compared to the
traditional practice to isolate MSC, through bone marrow aspiration. The research group did this by
dicing the cord into 1 2 mm fragments and enzymatically digesting said fragments in collagenase and
trypsin. The cell suspension was then filtered and cultured in cell culture flasks. Cultures were split
when concentrations increased and were replated at a lower concentration. Bone marrow aspirate from

Abstract (Summary) The purpose of this paper is to research and discuss issues and challenges related
to Enterprise Resources Planning implementation projects in Manufacturing and public sector.

OVERVIEW OF ERP In today s competitive environment, organisations need to be reformed to get
competitive advantages. The most efficient and effective way to achieve this goal is to introduce a new
information system (IS). Chen et al (2012) One of the big systems is enterprise resources planning
which is an application software which has a broad set of activities supported by many modules that
integrates all business processes and data into a single system which helps businesses keep track and
access to all their daily data. Jalal, a (2011) ISSUES CHALLENGES There are many issues and
challenges in implementing an ERP system for the first time or even upgrading from an old ERP
system. One of the biggest challenges with an ERP system change is getting the everyday user to
accept the change and adapt to the new processes as quickly as possible. A big reason why user
adoption to the ERP is difficult is because the users fear and resist change. Markham, Webb, (2012)
Another reason is user s engagement at the design and implementation phase. A study by Stephen
Gourlay at Kingston Business School (2010) found that the previous mentioned challenges were the
two biggest challenges users faced when adapting to ERP implementation. They noted that end users
can often be

The Trade Dispute And The European Union Industry
This trade dispute initially began on July 25th, 2012 when EU Pro Sun, a joint initiative of members
of the EU solar industry, filled a complaint to the European Commission that solar panels and various
components where being sold in the European marketplace at a value lower than market value. It was
the biggest anti dumping complaint to the European Union in history with the total value of currently
imported solar panels was around 2 billion euros. The European Commission is mandated to
investigate cases that are proven to be a valid complaint from the Union Industry. This case met the
three requirements which are: Possible price dumping by the exporting producers on the EU market,
injury suffered by the Union industry, and a possible ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Early in 2012, Europe s economy was shrinking and the euro zone s economy had shrunk by .3
percent in 2011 s fourth quarter. Greece, Portugal, Ireland, Spain, and Cyprus all had defaulted on
their debts and were unable to refinance them. The European Union had to consider what would
provide the greatest benefit to all members of the Union, and how implementing anti dumping and anti
subsidy laws would make it even more expensive for solar panels in the European Union. Secondly,
China currently accounted for around 65% of the world production of solar panels. Due to this it gave
them competitive advantage and the benefit of economies of scale. Due to the ability to sell Chinese
solar panels at a lower cost in the European Union it caused around 40 EU producers to declare
insolvency, 6 EU producers to stop production (some partially), and 2 EU producers to quit solar
business between 2009 and 2012 (Memo/13/497). If something was not to quickly be done about the
dumping of Chinese solar panels thousands of jobs would be lost within the European Union and EU
producers of solar panels market share would drastically drop, considering it was already at a minimal
19% Union market share. Thirdly, the European Union had to consider overall relations with the
Chinese regarding trade in general. An aggressive retaliation by the European Commission in regards
to the dumping could burn trade

Sports Observation
At a young age kids are active and need to be socially involved with others their own age. Youth
sports should develop lively relationships, but unfortunately this isn t the case .Sports have played an
important role in many kids lives for many years. They provide children with the chance to grow and
socialize. There s a quote High quality organized sports are a gateway to academic achievement, better
grades, improved chances of attending college, and success in the labor marketitive way In my
observation I interviewed two players and one parent. I viewed a 7 8 year old youth basketball game.
There are many different factors that involve youth sports. The first relationship is the player to player
relationship. The players interact with each other often, on and off the field. During timeouts and in
between quarters players initiate interaction between each other. The players mainly just want to have
fun. The next relationship is between the parents and players. Most of the interaction between them is
initiated by the parents. They tend to yell things at their child to make them play better or to
complement them. The players don t talk back to the parents. A couple parents at halftime would bring
their child something to drink and talk to them.

Another relationship is the coach and player relationship. Usually the most important.

Pay For Performance Model Of Reimbursement
The pay for performance model of reimbursement is a way of tracking the quality of care patients are
receiving and outcomes. The reimbursement/reward or lack thereof is a direct reflection on the care
patients are receiving. I do feel this is a great model to use as it keeps medical professionals
accountable for the care they are providing to their patients either in the clinic or the hospital setting. It
is important also for a provider to see their outcomes. I do feel that seeing the changes they can make
in someone s quality of life will be a motivating factor if not the reward or compensation received for
a job well done. There are four measure of care for providers/facilities: Process measures A way of

Compare And Contrast Living In A Small Town
Life in the United States has evolved over many years. One particular form of evolution includes cities
and towns. Cities are far different now than from the first settlement in Jamestown, Virginia. The
question today is, which is better? Is it better to live in a large popular urbanized city or is it more
suitable to live in a small rural town. There are multiple pros and cons for either of the two
preferences. Every person is different and has their own opinion and preferences. Although I do live in
a small town I would prefer to live in the city. Cities are exceedingly superior due to goods nearby,
simpler transportation, a wide variety of activities, and many more. However, I am not against living
in small towns. By living in a city people are closer to sources of food. There is no driving for twenty
minutes for an individual if they must go to get groceries. They are much closer and cuts down
valuable time out of people s busy schedules. The amount of time for driving to the nearest
supermarket is much quicker when living in the city than a small town that does not have a store to go
to for purchasing food. The time factor is very important because of many different plans that an
individual could have going on throughout a day. Living in a smaller town you must drive to a nearby
city to be able to purchase ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

social gatherings. Being close to a mall allows you not only to go shopping but to also go and hangout
with friends while doing so. It opens up many more opportunities for people to do things because of

Wholesale Funding, Bank Runs and Liquidity Freezes In the 2007/8 Financial Crisis
Introduction
Banks make loans which are not quickly sold at high price. The demand deposits by Banks issue allow
their depositors to make withdraws at their convenience. Therefore a liquidity mismatch exists
between a bank s liabilities which are more liquid compared to the bank s assets. It leads to a problem
in case a large number of depositors decide to withdraw at the same time. Such a situation is called a
bank run. To prevent bank runs there are policies by the banks to stop runs, while the government
provides deposit insurance for prevention of bank runs. The canonical model of depositor runs by
Diamond and Dybvig (1983) provides an explanation as to why banks issue deposits which have
greater liquidity than the bank s assets and also explain why banks are prone to depositor runs
(Diamond, Dybvig, 1983). This model focuses on bank runs along other financial crises and the
mechanisms to prevent such financial crises. This paper discusses how traditional bank runs is
different from runs in the 2008 financial crisis and the innovation of wholesale funding.
Bank runs
Diamond and Dybvig (1983) provide that the main function of banks is the creation of liquidity. It
means offering deposits which have a higher liquidity compared to the assets they

Narrative Essay About My Butterfly
There was a time when my butterfly flew away. Before, I met a very special person. Really, my
attention was on his easy going personality, goodness and charisma. On those Summer days, the
garden was full of colored flowers. Constantly, the sun went down and the moon came out; the wind
was fresh and our hearts betrayed. After, I met with my butterfly in the back room. Automatically, he
embraced me in his warm arms; my heart shake and my desires sprouted. There were shivering and
sweating. However, inside the small chamber lusting vanished; every time, I realized, it went too far.
Every morning, he looked at me and apologized. we didn t mean to hurt anybody; it was just a magic
attraction. In many other occasions, I met with my butterfly in the back room to talk and share about
feelings.
One day, in the small alcove, my butterfly touched my neck and hair, I never met a person like you,
you are so different , he said; in a sweet and slow tone of voice. He pulled me into his arm, we
touched each other, we detailed how much we missed and loved. There was a front window, where we
walked to see the flowers in the garden. A white sheer hanged from the highest point of the wall, it
flew all around, the wind blew and the curtains fell on top of us. This is when he kissed me, ecstasy
was so high; it was difficult to stop. Silently, the flowers smell so sweet and the wind kept blowing,
while, the sheers wrapped us; we laughed and hug each other. Then, I removed the sheers from the

Timor Persuasive Essay
Located between the Banda and Timor Sea, lies a small nation called Timor Leste a.k.a. East Timor,
which is part of an island known as Timor. In 1520, the Portuguese were first settling into Timor; a
little before the year 1860, Portugal and Netherlands fought for the land of Timor but with an 1860
treaty, it divided Timor into West and East Timor. East Timor was given to the Portuguese while West
Timor belonged to the Netherlands. After 455 years of Portugal colonizing East Timor, Portugal
suddenly withdrew their rule which lead the island to be completely vulnerable. On July 7th, 1976,
East Timor had declared their independence; but nine days later, Indonesia (West Timor), invaded and
annexed East Timor. Although many of the countries didn t ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The Aging Quiz Analysis
The Aging Quiz, by Linda M. Woolf, Ph.D., Webster University is a 25 statement, true or false test,
declaring common beliefs held by most United States individuals. First impressions of the quiz
revealed many statements were obviously stereotypical in nature. On further inspection, I noticed the
date of the publication was 1977 and 1980. My speculation is these misconceptions of seniors may
have evolved in the last several decades. With that said, I did find the explanation of the answers
informative. There were no substantial surprises in the answers, two of three wrong answers
concerned physical aspects, and one could be deemed as social/physiological and I believe I did well
on the quiz. Addressing that I did not find some surprising answers in the quiz made me wonder if my
level of education provided the primary reason. Recent classes covering subjects concerning the senior
aspects marriage and family, chronic diseases, anatomy, physiology, nutrition, and exercise supported
this idea. An interesting anecdotal note is I gave the test to my 77 year old mother. With only a tenth
grade education, she scored very similar to myself getting most of the same ones wrong. That
supported my ideas the quiz may be a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

study that loss of smell can be a predictor of death in five years. (Jayant M. Pinto, 2014). I answered

Essay On Columbine Shooting
I think the theme of Columbine would be telling the hardships of Columbine shooting. The book tells
what happens in the shooting, and the characters dealing with the shooting. The book also tells what
happens before and after the Columbine shooting. B. Dylan is very tall compare to Eric. He had
skinny legs and arms. He s not really handsome come to Eric. He wears a long black coat and skinny
jeans. My mental image would also be very tall. He would have freckles on his face. He would look
very mean all the time. C. The book was sometimes easy to read, but also hard to read. The author put
a lot of information in the book which sometimes made it boring to read. Sometimes the words were
hard to pronounce. The most memorable passage would be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

I also think the book doesn t encourage copycats. Eric and Dylan have been praised by other school
shooter in the past. E. The author did characterized Eric and Dylan as typical teenagers in a physical
way. It was harder to understand their actions even more of how they acted around other people. They
were more frightening because they acted like typical teenagers, but deep inside of them they were
insane. When they were around other people, they didn t act like killers. When they were alone, they
have a killer motives. F. I think that Eric changed over the last two years. The more he got closer to
the day of the shooting the more he desired to kill. He was getting smarter at fooling others. A few
times he gave hints out to people about his plans, but the other people didn t figure it out. Also, he
even became more psychotic over the last two years. G. I think the killers were responsible for the
killing. The parents of the killer and the policemen had a reason to feel guilty. They could of prevented
the shootings if they just a little more concerned about the killers crimes. I think the parents still feel
guilty because they were the ones who

Daniel Boone Research Paper
The famous trail blazer and frontiersman Daniel Boone spent his early childhood on what is now the
Daniel Boone Homestead. He grew up on the homestead, where he learned to love the wilderness. In
1750, when Daniel was fifth teen years old, his parents decided to move from the homestead. They
moved to western North Carolina where they could own more land. After his family moved, other
noble families like the Maugridge and DeTurks bought the land and lived there. They built many
additions to the 579 acres of land, such as adding saw mills, barns, blacksmith houses and the
remodeling the Boone home itself. The historical site of the Daniel Boone Homestead was preserved

they can fund the money in other ways, such as through donations. An intriguing attraction and neat

  • 2. Essay about Symbols in the Briefcase in “Invisible Man” by... Towards the end of the book Invisible Man by Ralph Ellison, the narrator who remains unnamed thought the entire book, risks his life to save a briefcase filled with seemingly random assorted items. But later in the book the narrator is forced to burn the items in his briefcase in order to find his way out of a sewer he gets stuck in. Closer reading reveals that the items in his briefcase are more than random assorted items, but instead are symbols. Each one of those symbols represents a point in the narrator s life where he is either betrayed or made invisible by the people around him. Through the book the two main recurring themes are betrayal and invisibility and the narrator keeps these symbols with him because they represent who he ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In this incident the whites in the crowd immediately stop any variation from what they want to hear coming out of the mouth of an African American. This is another way that he is oppressed into being what people want him to be and therefore becoming invisible. The narrator also feels betrayed when he sees Clifton with the doll. At that time the narrator still considered himself a part of the brotherhood, and since the brotherhood would never allow such a thing to be sold, Clifton is betraying the brotherhood and also the narrator himself. Another symbolic item in the narrator s briefcase is the Sambo doll that brother Clifton was selling illegally on the street. It is not the doll itself, but instead the circumstances surrounding Clifton s death that make the doll significant. GM wants to down size the number of platforms they use so they can make the most out of the fewer platforms. 2) Based on the case, what is GM s vision? Do you think it is realistic? Explain. They are controlling the direction by using the profits and going from there. They controlled the direction by improving the future for the company. I think they are using the Planning/Control cycle to the fullest. They are following the steps. 5) What did you learn about planning based on this case? Explain I learned that sometime you can not get ahead of your self. Just because the market is doing good does not mean you should make so many models. You never know when your industry is going to take a hit and when you have so many variations of one product it is hard to make each one better. Just stick with the basics. Make your fist model the best it can be and then move on. You need to follow the Planning/Control cycle. From the novel, to what extent and how did women drive events and what were the differences between their goals and those of men? Why the differences? The novel God s Bits of Wood by Sembene Ousmane is an account of the strike Senegalese trainworkers underwent in pursuit of equal benefits and compensation from their French employers. In an effort to coerce the workers into returning to their jobs, the French cut off the water and food supply to the three villages wherein these events transpire: Thies, Dakar, and Bamako. The hunger visible in their children eyes did not cause them to despair and lose their resolve, rather it helped to develop unity amongst them as they faced this hardship together. For instance, when Ramatoulaye killed the ram Vendredi, the meat from its bones was distributed to all those in need. So when the French soldiers came to collect her for breaking a law, they did not face one lone woman but an army of women prepared to fight. Consequently, the soldiers were driven away. This first victory showed the women the strength they had as long as they worked as a united front. Women drove events in the novel because with the exception of the first fight between the workmen and the soldiers, primarily all physical revolts by the Senegalese were the work of the women. There were three reasons for this. First, whereas a man physically revolting would simply be killed, it was highly distasteful to the French to kill a woman or child. Second, this was the most effective manner for the women to aid the strike, since they were largely ignored and could not participate in the union meetings. Third, the women tired of scavenging food without success and watching each other waste away. Working actively to benefit the strike gave meaning to their lives. Also the French, who viewed the African women as ignorant whores whose primary worth was for sexual pleasure, also consistently acted to provoke them. The movies and its modernisms occasionally have to catch up to the idea of nation, however sometimes it leads and shapes nation too. According to Berry and Farquhar (2006), Chinese movies have played a critical role in shaping nation and national identity amongst Chinese. This essay will mainly focus on how Chinese cinema has reflected and shaped the idea of nation. Apart from that, the history of Chinese cinema, other famous traits such as Beijing opera and martial arts are also debated in how it reflects nation. Additionally, I will examine how the framing and characterization of Lee, and in specific in his role as Chen Zhen in the film Fist of Fury compresses within the masculine body of Bruce Lee the character of Chinese nationalism and masculinity. What do cinema and movies actually mean? The term cinema is defined as the art of moving pictures or a visual media that tells stories, exposes reality and conveys messages. On the other hand, movies, also called a film or motion picture is also a story that is communicated with animating images. Besides that, the cinema often reflects to specific degree the culture, traditions and heritage of a nation, its historical concerns as well as its societies enjoyments, sorrows and hopes throughout history. The wealthy would be guarentted an elaborate ceremony. The body of the deceased would be on display for mourning for a lengthy period of time, and treated with extreme care, as explained earlier. The body would never be left alone as it was belived this would be bad luck for the deceaseds afterlife. After the mourning period, the funeral wpuld take place. It is a common misperception that the funeral was a big parade, when in reality it was a quiet affair, and the funeral procession was more of a celebration. A Eulogy was usually only read for the very wealthy, differing from how funerals are conducted today. However these were usually resrved only for the families with links to power. An example of how a eulogy would go, is seen in Julius Caesars eulogy to his Aunt Julia, known as laudatio Iuliae amitae. Over time, that phrase has became a slogan for feminists around the world. It appears on many products and media, like shirts, jewelry, and even wine glasses. At the time she wrote it, she meant for it to mean that women who are well behaved do not get their stories told, even if they did something extraordinary or heroic, though now, people interpret it in many different ways. Although what the designers of this product seem to be aiming for is different than what Ulrich originally meant for her quote, I am sure that Ulrich still would support that message. Fig. 2. The pendant has the quote well behaved women seldom make history on it, with Laurel Thatcher Ulrich credited beneath it. Similarly to the shirt, women and history are in a bigger font (see Fig. 2). The Legal Implications Of Surrogacy One of the most popular commercial places that surrogacy s take place is in India where it is legalized and much cheaper than in the United States (Gentleman, p.1). In India women sign surrogacy contracts that legally bind them to be implanted with another woman s egg, grow the baby, give birth to the child, and then hand over the baby and all her rights to the biological parents (Sandel, p.91). Even with surrogacy being legal, there is much debate about the ethical ramifications it brings to society. All three sources believe that surrogacy acts as wombs for rent for the wealthy families of the western hemisphere (Warner, p.2, Gentleman, p.2). Sandel argues the ethicality of the free market may not always be as free as they seem, arguing that there are certain goods that are degraded when bought and sold (Sandel, p.75). In India women are being exploited by the surrogacy contracts having their reproductive systems put on the market. In Justice, Sandel claims that it is unethical in his two objections tainted consent and degradation of higher goods. Sandel objects to surrogacy contracts claiming the exchange of human beings for monetary compensation is degrading of higher goods, the higher goods being human life (Sandel, p.96). • 20. Research Study On Mesenchymal Stem Cells Mesenchymal stem cells (MSC) are fibroblast like structural cells that are found in bone marrow, skeletal muscle, and other connective tissues. MSC derived from bone marrow (BM) have been shown to be self renewing and are capable of differentiation into a variety of stromal cell types including bone forming osteoblasts, fat storing adipocytes, and neurons. Another trait exhibited by BM MSC is their supportive role in hematopoiesis (blood genesis). This behavior has been utilized to enhance efficacy of co transplantation of hematopoietic stem cells (HSC). BM MSC are gathered using painful procedures in which penetrating bone to access the marrow. This article investigates the umbilical cord (UC) as a source of MSC and compares the cells gathered in this manner with BM MSC. Previous methods for obtaining UC MSC involved extracting the cells from the single vein found on the umbilical cord. This method was met with 30% success with this group. A new method involving the use of the whole cord was created and attempted. This method was then compared to the traditional practice to isolate MSC, through bone marrow aspiration. The research group did this by dicing the cord into 1 2 mm fragments and enzymatically digesting said fragments in collagenase and trypsin. The cell suspension was then filtered and cultured in cell culture flasks. Cultures were split when concentrations increased and were replated at a lower concentration. OVERVIEW OF ERP In today s competitive environment, organisations need to be reformed to get competitive advantages. The most efficient and effective way to achieve this goal is to introduce a new information system (IS). Chen et al (2012) One of the big systems is enterprise resources planning which is an application software which has a broad set of activities supported by many modules that integrates all business processes and data into a single system which helps businesses keep track and access to all their daily data. Jalal, a (2011) ISSUES CHALLENGES There are many issues and challenges in implementing an ERP system for the first time or even upgrading from an old ERP system. One of the biggest challenges with an ERP system change is getting the everyday user to accept the change and adapt to the new processes as quickly as possible. A big reason why user adoption to the ERP is difficult is because the users fear and resist change. Markham, Webb, (2012) Another reason is user s engagement at the design and implementation phase. A study by Stephen Gourlay at Kingston Business School (2010) found that the previous mentioned challenges were the two biggest challenges users faced when adapting to ERP implementation. They noted that end users can often be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 22. The Trade Dispute And The European Union Industry This trade dispute initially began on July 25th, 2012 when EU Pro Sun, a joint initiative of members of the EU solar industry, filled a complaint to the European Commission that solar panels and various components where being sold in the European marketplace at a value lower than market value. It was the biggest anti dumping complaint to the European Union in history with the total value of currently imported solar panels was around 2 billion euros. The European Commission is mandated to investigate cases that are proven to be a valid complaint from the Union Industry. This case met the three requirements which are: Possible price dumping by the exporting producers on the EU market, injury suffered by the Union industry, and a possible ... Greece, Portugal, Ireland, Spain, and Cyprus all had defaulted on their debts and were unable to refinance them. The European Union had to consider what would provide the greatest benefit to all members of the Union, and how implementing anti dumping and anti subsidy laws would make it even more expensive for solar panels in the European Union. Secondly, China currently accounted for around 65% of the world production of solar panels. Due to this it gave them competitive advantage and the benefit of economies of scale. Due to the ability to sell Chinese solar panels at a lower cost in the European Union it caused around 40 EU producers to declare insolvency, 6 EU producers to stop production (some partially), and 2 EU producers to quit solar business between 2009 and 2012 (Memo/13/497). If something was not to quickly be done about the dumping of Chinese solar panels thousands of jobs would be lost within the European Union and EU producers of solar panels market share would drastically drop, considering it was already at a minimal 19% Union market share. Thirdly, the European Union had to consider overall relations with the Chinese regarding trade in general. The players interact with each other often, on and off the field. During timeouts and in between quarters players initiate interaction between each other. The players mainly just want to have fun. The next relationship is between the parents and players. Most of the interaction between them is initiated by the parents. The reimbursement/reward or lack thereof is a direct reflection on the care patients are receiving. I do feel this is a great model to use as it keeps medical professionals accountable for the care they are providing to their patients either in the clinic or the hospital setting. It is important also for a provider to see their outcomes. • 25. Compare And Contrast Living In A Small Town Life in the United States has evolved over many years. One particular form of evolution includes cities and towns. Cities are far different now than from the first settlement in Jamestown, Virginia. The question today is, which is better? Is it better to live in a large popular urbanized city or is it more suitable to live in a small rural town. There are multiple pros and cons for either of the two preferences. Every person is different and has their own opinion and preferences. Although I do live in a small town I would prefer to live in the city. Cities are exceedingly superior due to goods nearby, simpler transportation, a wide variety of activities, and many more. However, I am not against living in small towns. By living in a city people are closer to sources of food. There is no driving for twenty minutes for an individual if they must go to get groceries. They are much closer and cuts down valuable time out of people s busy schedules. The amount of time for driving to the nearest supermarket is much quicker when living in the city than a small town that does not have a store to go to for purchasing food. The time factor is very important because of many different plans that an individual could have going on throughout a day. The demand deposits by Banks issue allow their depositors to make withdraws at their convenience. Therefore a liquidity mismatch exists between a bank s liabilities which are more liquid compared to the bank s assets. It leads to a problem in case a large number of depositors decide to withdraw at the same time. Such a situation is called a bank run. To prevent bank runs there are policies by the banks to stop runs, while the government provides deposit insurance for prevention of bank runs. The canonical model of depositor runs by Diamond and Dybvig (1983) provides an explanation as to why banks issue deposits which have greater liquidity than the bank s assets and also explain why banks are prone to depositor runs (Diamond, Dybvig, 1983). This model focuses on bank runs along other financial crises and the mechanisms to prevent such financial crises. This paper discusses how traditional bank runs is different from runs in the 2008 financial crisis and the innovation of wholesale funding. • 27. Narrative Essay About My Butterfly There was a time when my butterfly flew away. Before, I met a very special person. Really, my attention was on his easy going personality, goodness and charisma. On those Summer days, the garden was full of colored flowers. Constantly, the sun went down and the moon came out; the wind was fresh and our hearts betrayed. After, I met with my butterfly in the back room. Automatically, he embraced me in his warm arms; my heart shake and my desires sprouted. There were shivering and sweating. However, inside the small chamber lusting vanished; every time, I realized, it went too far. Every morning, he looked at me and apologized. we didn t mean to hurt anybody; it was just a magic attraction. In many other occasions, I met with my butterfly in the back room to talk and share about feelings. One day, in the small alcove, my butterfly touched my neck and hair, I never met a person like you, you are so different , he said; in a sweet and slow tone of voice. He pulled me into his arm, we touched each other, we detailed how much we missed and loved. There was a front window, where we walked to see the flowers in the garden. A white sheer hanged from the highest point of the wall, it flew all around, the wind blew and the curtains fell on top of us. This is when he kissed me, ecstasy was so high; it was difficult to stop. Silently, the flowers smell so sweet and the wind kept blowing, while, the sheers wrapped us; we laughed and hug each other. • 30. The Aging Quiz Analysis The Aging Quiz, by Linda M. Woolf, Ph.D., Webster University is a 25 statement, true or false test, declaring common beliefs held by most United States individuals. First impressions of the quiz revealed many statements were obviously stereotypical in nature. On further inspection, I noticed the date of the publication was 1977 and 1980. My speculation is these misconceptions of seniors may have evolved in the last several decades. With that said, I did find the explanation of the answers informative. There were no substantial surprises in the answers, two of three wrong answers concerned physical aspects, and one could be deemed as social/physiological and I believe I did well on the quiz. Addressing that I did not find some surprising answers in the quiz made me wonder if my level of education provided the primary reason. Recent classes covering subjects concerning the senior aspects marriage and family, chronic diseases, anatomy, physiology, nutrition, and exercise supported this idea. An interesting anecdotal note is I gave the test to my 77 year old mother. With only a tenth grade education, she scored very similar to myself getting most of the same ones wrong.
