Montreal Case Study
Hey there! Long time, no see. With June right around the corner, the Montreal Canadiens enter one of
their most crucial periods in years specifically for general manager Marc Bergevin. The draft will
yield some high end prospects, and pave the way for one or more massive trades. Max Pacioretty and
others may be on the move, and the Canadiens roster may have a vastly different look come training
camp. We took to Twitter to ask you, the fans, want to hear about most. We took your suggestions, and
compiled them into the first edition of HC Mailbag. At what point did Montreal go from being the
most progressive organization in drafting developing talent to one of the most conservative?

Most pundits don t believe Tavares wants to come to Montreal. Poor weather, potholes, high taxes,
intense media attention, a non competitive team... A non competitive team? Montreal is one of the
most deep teams in the league on the wings, and has two of the best and most revered players on
defense and in nets. Drouin, Galchenyuk, Gallagher, Zadina/Svechnikov, Pacioretty, Hudon,
Lehkonen, Scherbak, Byron, Shaw, Carr. That is the definition of deep. Not everyone on this list will
be a Canadien by September, you can screenshot this for future reference. Add Shea Weber, Carey
Price, Petry, and young up and comers in Mete and Juulsen, and you have yourself a pretty
competitive team. Health is key, and proper deployment will ensure optimal performance from the
team s constituents. Obviously there are glaring holes. The number one centre, and the number one
left defenseman. Drouin could slot in as the 2C behind a true 1C. He was winning more faceoffs, was
more confident down the middle, and posted 13 points in his last 14 contests last season. With less
pressure, he could really thrive between, say, Galchenyuk and one of Zadina or Svechnikov. That s

Effect of List Position on Free Recall Essay
In our daily lives, we constantly try to store and retrieve information from our memory. Sometimes the
retrieval process is quite simple, while other times it seems to be almost impossible. An experiment
was done to investigate the effect of list position on free recall. The serial position effect refers to the
U shaped pattern presentation on a free recall task. The accuracy of item recall depends on the order
that the stimulus is presented. The serial position curve is an example of how the recency and primacy
effect appears to have influence on recall. Primacy effect results from initial observations and it is
believed that the first few items of the list is remembered the second best. The recency effect results
from the final ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The participant is permitted to use any form of memory strategies available. The independent
variables are the letters being presented and its serial positioning. The dependent variable is the
proportion of times each letter is recalled.
Results
The graph below shows the U shaped pattern presentation, which shows the serial position effect. As
presented in the graph, the position of the item effects the ability of recall. Primacy effect can be seen
in the beginning of the graph, and the receneny effect can be seen at the end of the graph. The results
indicate that as serial positioning of the item increased the accuracy percentage decreased. Provided
below is the graph of the average experiment results of PSY270 winter Class.
Discussion
It was hypothesized that participants will recall the last items most accurately, first items fairly
accurate and middle items the least accurate. However, the results of the curve could vary depending
on the memory strategies used and the order that the participant recalls the items. Most often
participants will recall the last few items presented first which would cause the latter end of the U
shaped curve to be higher. The result of the experiment was consistent with the hypothesis to an
extent. The results of the experiment demonstrate that the primacy effect is larger than that of the
recency effect. It is quite puzzling that most of the participants were

American Tsunami Are We Next
American s Tsunami, Are we Next?
The word tsunami comes from a Japanese word meaning Long harbor waives . Tsunami is much
known and very common in Japan because thousands of Japanese have been killed and some suffered
in recent centuries. Tsunami waves generally speaking cause a lot of damages such as, killing people,
destroying building, and costing million of dollars. Moreover, a tsunami is a series of great sea waves
caused by an underwater earthquake, landslide, or volcanic eruption. The 2004 Indian Ocean
earthquake that is located on epicenter off the west coast of Sumatra, Indonesia, is actually one of the

My Life That Influenced My Development During The...
Martin Luther King Jr. (1965) once said, We must learn to live together as brothers or perish together
as fools. This quote stuck has always stuck with me and that is because of living in many places and
experiencing different cultures and societal norms; I cam to learn no matter where someone came
from or where they have been, being part of the military no matter the branch is part of one big family.
Throughout an individuals life they experience events, which have great influence on their
development, whether it is good or bad. In this paper I will be covering various aspects about events in
my life that influenced my development at during this point in my life. This point is going to be at the
ages of 14 to 17, also known as adolescence. Before I talk about this point in my life I am first going
to cover certain relevant background information, family influences, sociocultural and environmental
influences, and finally I will discuss my own personal development during the adolescent stage,
specifically that of the ages 14 to 17. To start this paper it is best to being with any relevant
background information during this period in adolescence. During this point of life I was a brother, a

Copyright And Licensing Of Art
Copyright and Licensing explained.
No artwork exhibited in an open display is invulnerable; anytime an artwork becomes known, it is
predisposed to relative alterations, falsifications, and reuse by other artists. Countless art movements
are fashioned around the revision of earlier works and representations. As an artist, one must accept
the unavoidable fact that one day there will probably be alterations to their artwork.
Once the great Pablo Picasso argued that: Bad artists copy. Good artists steal . In this essay it will be
explained the rules governing the copyright and licensing. The emphasis of this essay will be also
focusing on what are the steps to follow to grant a license to a third party in order to make it liable to
use my work of art, that in this case will be an image from one of my paintings.
The existence of copyright is indispensable especially aiming on intellectual property rights in art, and
whether it must be used not simply to protect the truth of the artist but moreover to encourage future
creativeness in the art industry. The meaning of copyright is the sole rights to generate copies and to
control literary, musical, or artistic work for a number of years; within Australia and in many other
countries this is 70 years from the artist or producers death or from the day of publication if later.
As an artist, I am the owner of the copyright of my artworks as far as my work is original. This means
that the work must not be copied from another

Bullet In The Brain Analysis
The evaluation of the short novel, Bullet in the Brain by Tobias Wolff was quite an interesting subject
matter when it comes to the understanding of one s true experience with the phrase My life flashed
before my eyes . In this novel, Wolff tells a story about a man named Anders who experiences
forgotten memories in his life and realizes what he once was and what he turned out to be in the end.
Wolff s interpretation of memory in this novel made a unique remark and left a deep understanding on
how someone could easily change in life without them even noticing. Throughout the course of this
story, Wolff takes you to Anders short remainder of time in life and what psychological adventure he
experiences in this short amount of time. This novel by Tobias Wolff shows a great deal of elements
that one novel should need at all times. Bullet in the Brain takes place in a bank where the main
character of the story, Anders, goes to right before they closes because he was apparently pretty
preoccupied in his life. He comes in and since it was right before it was closing time, a great deal of
people are in line to do their own business at the same time as him. Anders has an unfortunate luck as
he goes in line right behind two annoying and loud women who was having a, according to Wolff,
stupid conversation. As time progresses, the bank meets an unfortunate event by having two robbers
come in with weapons to neutralize anyone who needs to be. Anders with his uncontrollable short

What Is A Victim Of Crime A Failure
These quotations demonstrate that over the past fourteen years the head of State has called for the
government to increase attention to the treatment of victims of crime in England and Wales. This
would imply that the needs of victims of crime have consistently been on the political agenda and that
the system is recognising that improvements need to be made to promote victims interests. What
however is the reality? This essay will explore how an advocate for the criminal justice system (CJS)
would argue that victims of crime are not being failed. It will present the measures taken to improve
the rights and interests of victims. It will discuss the commitment of the Crown Prosecution Service
(CPS) to victims by exploring The Prosecutors Pledge . ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Nils Christie believes that conflicts have been taken away from the parties directly involved. This
view is supported by other academics who have implied that the victims do not have any formal status
in proceedings. It is argued that the effect of this results in the victim being neglected and viewed as
the non person in the eyes of the professional participants . Victims have been compared to a
professional tool at the disposal of the lawyers, judges and court officials which would imply that
cases have been taken by the professionals of the system and that victims have lost participation in
their own cases. It is submitted that this is a transparent failure of the system as victims have lost their
voice and are viewed as subservient to the professionals. It is interesting to compare the current
process with that used in the Anglo Saxon period where an altercation trial took place and the victim
was responsible for prosecuting the offender. Academics have labelled this the golden age of the
victim as the conflict was heard without lawyers, giving the victim a central role. A clear difference
can be seen between the two systems and victims appear to have lost rights which could be concluded
as a failure of the

Texas Conservative
Ambrose Bierce quote, Conservative, n: A statesman who is enamored of existing evils, as
distinguished from the Liberal who wishes to replace them with others relates to the two political
parties, in America. Bierce was a novel writer and based on his quote I think he was a liberal. His
quote defines a conservative and a liberal in a very unsubtle way which can be misleading to some
even though it is true. Texas is known as a conservative state and California is known as a liberal state.
Texas has been a conservative state since 1944 and Democrats haven t been able to win it since. Two
Presidents of the United States are from Texas and were from the Republican Party. Many believe that
Texas became conservative when people started moving West, moving West was not a really smooth
process back in the days. This takes us to the Frontier heritage when people had to cope with a lot of
issues because of the move towards West. This made people angry at the government and caused
distrust and anger towards the government, the government wanted to make changes to some of the

Human Existence In Blade Runner
Blade Runner examines the meaning of human existence and whether or not being human affects the
meaning of one s individual existence. The definition of human is so flexible and indistinct in the
context of the film. Replicants, a kind of android, are physically indistinguishable from humans,
which is why a Voight Kompff test is needed to detect replicants by their responses to emotional
situations; however, the existence of Rachael, a replicant who has been given artificial memories in
order to help her understand and experience emotion and make her more human like, changes that
distinction. The ambiguity of human identity and experience is highlighted when Rachael questions
the humanity of the presumably human blade runner, Rick Deckard,

Renaissance composers writing more freely and being more individual then those of the Baroque era
where they followed more rules and experimented less. This essay will show the difference in two

The cello and organ provide the basso continuo, following the figured bass. The modulation in bar 10
to A major ends in a V7 I, providing strength to the piece. This differs from Sonata pian e forte which
is in the Dorian mode with lots of root position chords (bar 1 and 2) and suspensions (bar 3). The
melody is mostly stepwise and the tierce de Picarrdie in bar 4 gives a sense of balanced phrasing. This
is felt again in bar 8, due to the consonant 4th. The modal harmony in bar 13 creates an imperfect
cadence to mark the end of the A1 section. An interesting phrygian cadence (IVb V) is used in bar 16
leads into a short circle of 5ths (bar 17) and then a perfect cadence in F major with a 4 3 suspension
(bar 20). This busy ness before cadences was not uncommon, due to the very expressive works that
were composed in this era. Trio Sonata also uses engaging rhythms and harmonies, for example, the 7
6 suspension in bar 9 and the hemiola before the perfect cadence in bar 28. Corelli also uses an
inverted tonic pedal in bar 15 to create a sense of strength and anticipation before the start of the B
section. Unity of mood in Baroque is first conveyed by the continuity of rhythm. 3 This quote shows
the importance of rhythm in the Baroque era, particularly lively, driving

(Piotrowski, 2005). Example: Mary is aware of her frown lines. Self identity corresponds to the child s
comprehension of an internal sameness or stability over time, (Piotrowski, 2005). Example: Mary has

housekeeping chores. Self esteem reflect personal efforts to preserve pride and avoid shame,

Understanding And Being Able To Speak A New Language Can
Understanding and being able to speak a new language can only bring positive things. In addition to
improving your resume, several studies claim that knowing more than one language makes you
smarter, because you use parts of your brain that would otherwise be unused. In addition, if you are
one of those who travel a lot, knowledge of other languages is vital for you to be able to get the most
out of your travels. Having a second language is one of the most demanded requirements in the

Due to the existence of this simultaneous process, one of the purposes of the teacher should be to help
the student make both hemispheres work together.
The pre school stage, according to theories of neuropsychological development, is excellent for
introducing new concepts in a second language to the child. The child s brain is like a sponge. Since
50 percent of the ability to learn is developed in the first years of life, and another 30 percent by age
eight, early childhood development programs have the opportunity to encourage early learning and
development.
During the first six months of life, babies babble using 70 sounds that make up all the languages in the
world. The babies will learn to talk using only the sounds and words that they hear from their
environment, principally from their parents and caregivers. A baby s brain will then discard the ability
to speak in languages he or she does not hear (Kotulak, 1996). During this period and especially the
first three years of life, the foundations for thinking, language, vision, attitudes, aptitudes, and other
characteristics are laid down, says Ronald Kotulak, author of Inside the Brain. That s one of the
reasons why is better to learn the second language when you are young.
The impulses of the second language must be constant since the children learn faster, but also they

Kids used to ask each other: If a tree falls in a forest and no one hears, does it make a sound? Now
there s a microphone in every tree and a loudspeaker on every branch, not to mention the video
cameras, and we ve entered the condition that David Foster Wallace called Total Noise: the tsunami of
available fact, context, and perspective. This week was a watershed for Total Noise. When terrible
things happen, people naturally reach out for information, which used to mean turning on the
television. The rewards (and I use the word in its Pavlovian sense) can be visceral and immediate, if
you want to see more bombs explode or towers fall, and plenty of us do. But others are learning not to
do that. The Boston bombings, shootings, car chase,

Moral Reasoning And Moral Judgments
Over the last decades, research in moral psychology was dominated by the role of reasoning in making
moral judgments (Kohlberg, 1969; Turiel, 1983), while a more recent research emphasizes the role of
automatic emotional processes (Blair, 1995; Haidt, 2001; Pizzaro Salovey, 2002). Therefore, there has
been a great tension to whether intuitions or reasons play critical role in making moral judgments.
Haidt (2001) argues moral reasoning involves a conscious process, which means that the process is
slower, effortful, deliberate, and controllable, while moral intuition process occurs unconsciously and
thus, the process is faster, automatic and effortlessly. Thereby, Haidt (2001) contends reasoning still
play a role in moral judgments, nevertheless, it is most likely as a post hoc attempt to justify one s
intuition driven moral judgments. However, there are still some studies maintaining reasons as the
master in making moral judgments (Kohlberg, Levine, Hewer, 1983; Kuhn, 1991). Kuhn (1991)
describes people still follow their reasoning to make judgments even though it might contradicts with
their initial intuitions. Greene, Sommerville, Nystrom, Darley, and Cohen (2001) propose dual process
theory in order to consolidate these two approaches. They explain that both reasons and intuitions run
in parallel or mutually competitive roles in making moral judgments. They further describe that
intuitions or known as automatic emotional responses drive deontological judgments, while

Optomatologist Personal Statement
During my high school career, I became fascinated with the workings and functions of our eyes while
attending an internship at an ophthalmologist s office. Through my time there I was fortunate to be
able to shadow and assist both the ophthalmologists and optometrists. While taking corneal
topographies of patients eyes before they were examined, my interest continued to grow and that
interest blossomed into a desire to pursue this as a career when I had the opportunity to witness my
first eye surgery. Though the pterygiectomy was a simple procedure, I was inspired by the fact that it
could allow the patient to see better, changing their life.
Predictably, this interest led me to work at an optometrist s office, and during the years I have ... Show

I started to attend many nutrition classes, gaining valuable knowledge about the correlations between
diet and nutrition and various nutrition related eye conditions. To gain more hands on experience in
this area, I began working at the USDA. Through one of the many research projects I worked on, I
was able to determine that children are increasingly more prone to adult diseases affecting general
optical health at an earlier age. Research indicates that this is largely due to the overall increase in
both sodium and sugar intake, in children, and that nutrition is extremely important in overall eye
health.
Through all of these experiences, the most important thing I have learned is that there is so much more
to learn. With continued research the science is constantly growing, with more information uncovered
all the time. For instance, I recently attended a presentation by an ophthalmologist, Dr. Rosenfarb,
about eye disease and acupuncture. I learned how the eyes related to the qi and all of the organs in our
bodies. Though the science is still being researched, the implications of oriental medicine and
naturopathy on the fields of optometry and ophthalmology have become of particular interest to

Ethical Theory
Introduction
Although humanity has always strived to understand the meaning of right and wrong, it is not any
closer to getting any definite answers. However, people need beliefs and values to live their lives.
They require a system of moral principles to make decisions. In other words, people consciously or
unconsciously apply ethics in their daily lives, whether they believe in it or not. Whether people
consider ethics to originate from religions, philosophies and/or cultures, nevertheless it provides a
moral map for resolving ethical dilemmas (BBC, 2014). Thus, it is important to identify and
differentiate the various ethical theories and their implications ... Show more content on

Thus, metaethics is not about discovering the right action or doing good, it is about how humans
determine if something is good or not and whether we are obligated to take the right action or not
(Sullivan Pecorino, 2002).
Implications of Ethical Thinking
An ethical person is aware of the basic principles governing moral conduct and acts in consistency
with those principles. Thus, ethical thinking provides people with a moral framework to work through
their ethical dilemmas (Pecorino, 2000). For example, given a patient who has been in an irreversible
coma for a long time and has no immediate family, is it morally justifiable to end his suffering by
taking him off life support? Ethical frameworks guide the doctors to make a decision in a seemingly
impossible situation where a person s life is balanced with his suffering and the hospital s resources.
From a moral non realistic perspective, the decision depends upon the culture and beliefs of the people
involved. Thus, the doctors might support mercy killing, in order to allow the patient to die with
dignity, rather than force him to live and let him experience the deterioration of his organs. Therefore,
in this case euthanasia is permitted, according to moral non realists because it is best for the

Abortion And The Social Aspects Of Abortion
INTRODUCTION
It is estimated almost half of pregnancies in Australia are unplanned . Unexpected pregnancies happen
for various individual, social, economic and political reasons . The World Health Organisation (WHO)
approximates one in three women in Australia will have an abortion procedure in their life . Abortion
data is only gathered by South Australia, Western Australia and the Northern Territory. However,
South Australia is the only state to publish data and report findings annually. Abortion is a heavy topic
which has the nation spilt into two groups; pro life or pro choice. Pro life is in favour of the foetus and
they believe that by killing the foetus it is equivalent to murder. Pro choice is for abortion, as they
believe that the woman has the choice to do what she wants with her body. This report will cover how
religion deals with abortion and how it can clash with modern ethnicity, abortion safety, the
repercussions of abortion and the social aspects of abortion.
RELIGION VS ETHNICITY
Religious communities have had a convoluted history in regards to abortion. The Catholic Church of
Australia states the direct and voluntary killing of an unborn is gravely immoral. No reason, however
serious or tragic, can ever justify the deliberate killing of an innocent human being . Abortion is not
explicitly forbidden within the Bible; as neither the Old nor New Testament condemns it. As a social
norm, however, Catholic s believe that life starts at conception via

Surviving The Beginning
Author, Arthur C. Clarke says: It has yet to be proven that intelligence has any survival value. While
being smart and prepared can be helpful, Clarke points out that it is not the thing that determines
survival. After exploring several text about survival it is evident that one must also have more than
intelligence to survive. When faced with life or death situations it is necessary for one to have positive
mentality, use available resources, and know his/her limits. Having a positive mental attitude can
significantly help those in fatal situations. In the poem, The End and The Beginning which describes
the rebuilding of a war stricken area Szymborska writes: In the grass that has overgrown/causes and
effects/someone must be stretched out/ blade of grass in his mouth/ gazing at the clouds (43 47).
Throughout the poem, one comes to understand the burden to understand the burden a war can be.
This specific passage however, exhibits an individual who puts the war behind him/her and looks
forward to the future. Although not in a true life or death situation, those choosing to linger in the past

I Heard A Fly Buzz When I Died, By Emily Dickinson
Emily Dickinson was and is one of the most prominent, female lyric poets. A recluse for nearly her
entire life, Dickinson had plenty of time to become the distinguished prolific poet she is commonly
recognized as being in present day. Dickinson wrote hundreds upon hundreds of brilliant poems in her
lifetime, but I Heard a Fly Buzz When I Died stands out as unique among them all. The speaker s
point of view coming from an after death perspective is but one of the many details that makes this
poem so intricately distant from the rest. Along with that detail, Dickinson uses multiple other poetic
devices, like similes, metaphors, and personification, to develop her viewpoint of life surrounding
death, establishing an overarching theme of death being simple. As alluded to in the poem, Faith is
fine a invention , Dickinson had a wary conception of the afterlife and spirituality in general.
Furthermore, descriptions of Dickinson portray her as a consistent agnostic, although she was also
described as being heavily influenced by Puritan religious beliefs. Through this character trait readers
can begin to develop the background story behind I Heard a Fly Buzz When I Died as well as begin to
understand how Dickinson s viewpoints on faith and death could have helped shaped the poem in it s
entirety. Within the very first line of the poem, readers are already asked to question the importance of
a fly s presence juxtaposed to the death of the speaker. In this opening line the

The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button Essay
Introduction
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button written by Eric Roth and based on a short novel by F. Scott
Fitzgerald is a story of an interesting man who lives his life backwards. The movie takes place in New
Orleans during hurricane Katrina and is told in a flashback perspective from the love of Benjamin s
life, Daisy and their daughter, Caroline. I have heard many times throughout my life and nursing
career, including from myself, If I could only go back and know what I know now. Benjamin Button

Close friendships create a since of well being according to Touhy Jett (467). As they grow older
chronologically, Daisy develops into a beautiful dancer while Benjamin leaves to join a tugboat crew
and learn the ways of the world, promising to write daisy from every port. Benjamin ends up in Russia
where he meets and has his first love affair with the wife of a British Trade Minister. This is an
important turning point in Benjamin s life; he discovered what it means to love and to be loved. The
two have conversations night after night in the lobby of the hotel and develop their love prior to
consummating it. The relationship runs its course. Benjamin s captain, Mike Clark, volunteers the
tugboat to aid in the war efforts after the attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941. This is where Benjamin
experiences his first loss. The boat and its crew are all destroyed when crashing into a German
Submarine causing it to explode. Benjamin and only one other crewmember survived the heroic crash;
Navy ships saved them the following day. The nursing home that Benjamin knew as a boy always
welcomed him back home. Benjamin returned to New Orleans in 1945 and back to his mother
Queenie. Daisy visits with him after his return; both are nearing the same age in appearance. At this
point Daisy tries to seduce Benjamin but Benjamin refuses her efforts. Its as though Benjamin is

The success of the brothers not just as as film producers, but also editors, writers, and directors is
beyond impressive. A massive part of their success can be attributed to their effectiveness in their
employment of dramatic and cinematography tools, one of which is music. The films that the brothers
have produced since their debut in the early 1980s are consistent with the sensitivity in which music
and sound is heavily is utilized, making the films and unique come alive, while ensuring that the
audience remains entertained. Their efficient use of music also ensures that the audience does not get
bored with the film since there is minimal monotony in most of their films. Another factor that has
contributed to their success in the movie industry is their unpredictability that makes it hard for the
viewers to predict the next occurrence or scene in their movies. The unpredictability is also evident in
their use of music all over their films. All in all, the films produced by the Coen brothers are often
carefully crafted and designed not only for the maximum entertainment of the viewers but also the
effective communication and relay of the core message. It is easy to dismiss the immense importance
of music and sound in a film, but watching movies by the Coen brothers greatly proves one otherwise.

Religion: the faith in and worship of a superhuman controlling force, particularly an individual God or

Atheism is normally characterized incorrectly as a belief system. Atheism is not a doubt in god or a
refusal of god; it is an absence of belief in god.
Atheism is not a faith nor is it a religion. While there are a few religions that are agnostic, that does
not imply that atheism is a religion. Two usually utilized counters to the nonsense that atheism is a
religion are: 1) If atheism is a religion, then bald is a hair colour, and 2) If atheism is a religion, then

The Cask Of Amontillado Chapter 1 Summary
This story tells about premature murder. Poe uses first person viewpoints because in a first person
view human weakness is apparent. The action and dialogue of the charters add a great deal of value to
the plot. Montresor tells the story of the night when he took his revenge on Fortunato, a fellow
nobleman. Angry over some vague insult, he plans to murder his friend during Carnival, a celebration
like Mardi Gras in New Orleans. Montresor chooses to wait until Fortunato is drunk and cannot
understand what is going on. Montresor attracts him into the catacombs to try a cask of amontillado
and then seals him away to die there. The story s setting adds to the atmosphere of horror, as Poe s
usage of time and place cause the readers to predict the next action. The festival gives Montresor an

There is no investigation of Montresor s crime and the criminal himself explains how he committed
the murder more than a half century earlier. He never faces criminal punishment for his wicked
actions. The mystery is in Montresor s motive for killing. His motive is uncertain other than the vague
thousand injuries that he has suffered at the hands of Fortunato to which he mentions. Montresor tries
to convince the reader that his intentions are honorable in an effort to maintain his family motto Nemo
me impune lacessit (No one insults me with impunity). Irony, both dramatic and verbal, plays a
significant part in this process. Dramatic irony occurs when the reader becomes painfully mindful of
what will become of Fortunato even though he continues his descent into the catacombs in search of
the Amontillado. Poe adds to this effect by calling the character Fortunato. It is ironic that a man of
misfortune is named Fortunato, and dressing him in a fool s costume since Montresor means to make a

The University Of Alabama And University At Birmingham
Deciding on a four year university to transfer to can be a very stressful decision. Talking to recruiters
from many different schools has revealed one thing; they all believe their school is the best. Recruiters
are not going to disclose the problem areas of their programs, nor highlight areas where other schools
are stronger. Therefore, leaving students to compare and contrast, everything the schools offer, and
attempt to make an informed decision. When comparing the different electrical engineering programs,
it seemed that every school claimed to be the most innovative, and had the ability to offer the most
opportunities to their students. When looking specifically at the University of Alabama and the
University of Alabama at Birmingham it became evident that their programs were very similar. Both
schools require the same computer and engineering seminar classes and both require that their
students achieve a C or higher in their math and science courses. Where they truly stood out from one
another is in their transfer requirements, the organizations available on campus, and the cost of
attendance. As a transfer student, one of the most important aspects of choosing any college is making
sure that all of the requirements can be met. The University of Alabama requires that to transfer in, the
student must have maintained a 2.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale, which is a C average. They also require that to

Compare And Contrast Two Ten Gilded Bronze Statues Of...
In this paper I will be analyzing the two seven feet ten gilded bronze statues of Hercules (from greek
Herakles) created in the 2nd century BCE in dedication to demigod s many accomplishments. While
the two sculptures are extremely similar, they yield minor differences that distinct them from one
another. Hercules was regarded as the strongest greek hero there has been, but despite his unparalleled
strength he appeared and lived like a regular human. While both statues remained in Rome, one statue
was found at the Forum Boarium, the other was buried under tiles at the Theatre of Pompey with the
inscriptions FCS short for fulgor conditum summanium, meaning it had been struck by lightning.
Despite being a product of Roman Art, the statues were based around Greek models from the 4th
century BCE. After its creation it was displayed at the Forum Boarium in Rome for most of its
existence, remains of Roman life point to the fact that it is was where the cattle market took place. In
his right hand he yields a club, his distinctive symbol alongside the Nemean Lion skin. It is also worth
noting that the statue found at the Forum he does not have a lion skin hanging from his forearm,
whereas the one found at the Theatre of Pompey does. The Nemean Lion skin was the fruit of his first
labour composed of three complicated tasks. First he had to shoot an arrow at the beast and determine
the speed at which it strikes the beast given the angle of elevation and the distance. Second, using a

part of the team due to his sexuality. Another aspect of homophobia affecting gays in sports is the
homophobic slurs used in the locker room and on the field, granted, Ryan said that even in day to day
life he never felt harmed or hurt by homophobic slurs. However, it is still a major problem in sports.
89 percent of homosexuals heard or felt targeted by homosexual slurs, according to the study. In my
interview with Ryan I asked him if the culture of the locker room needed to be the first thing to
change, he said Absolutely, sometimes it has to start from within a team and then that positive and
encouraging attitude can go on to others.
In my interview with Ryan, he said he never felt targeted but he did hint at the fact that at times the
slurs could be excessive, he aimed responsibility of the needed culture change on the coaching staff.
He spoke about the coaches on one of the teams he played for previously, who used slurs towards the
opposing team, Kinda shocked me, but I recognized it was a motivating factor . Coaches in the sports
are ones who need to step up to the plate and make the world of sports more comforting and help
homosexuals feel less threatened. Most coaches have or at

Forestalling Students In College
The policy that requires educational institutions to dissuade students from pursuing the fields that they
are unlikely to succeed is, at first glance, rather plausible. Certainly a prompt forestalling action may
bring the student back from the detouring path effectively. However, the consequences of this policy
are not immutable. Instead, they vary dramatically with the characteristics of students, and the time
during which the policy is enacted, before or in college. Such complexity of the possible results of this
policy requires careful circumspection. While the author declares such dissuasion is obligatory, I
remain doubtful of this.
First and foremost, the peculiarities of each student can probably lead to the different consequences

Life Without Bill Gates Essay
As the the inventor of the first computer, William H. Gates Jr. or his nickname, Bill Gates has
impacted the world so greatly that his invention will affect the world for the rest of eternity. Imagine
what life would be like without the computer. People at home would have to write documents by hand
instead typing their documents on google docs. Kids would have to play outside everyday, without TV
or video games. Also, social media wouldn t be available, so people can t text or facetime each other,
but can only call on a old fashioned phone. Last, without computers, technological advancement
wouldn t be possible because most robots need a computer in their brain. As you can see, without Bill
Gates, life would be so boring and complex.
William Henry Gates Jr. was born on October 28, 1955 in Seattle, Washington. He has an older sister
named Kristianne and a younger sister named Libby. His father William H. Gates Sr., was a lawyer
and his mother, Mary Maxwell was a part time teacher. As a child, Bill had a good relationship with
his mother. He would always do science experiments with her. Bill also played games with his sister
and read a whole lot. The 3 siblings were so competitive in everything, especially in reading that the
parents had to ban books from the dinner table so the siblings would talk more! The result of reading
too much was being too smart, so Bill would sometimes sleep and daydream in class. His life would
suddenly change when he was enrolled to

Irene Winter s Thesis
2.1. What is Irene Winter s thesis or main argument?
The main argument is about the problem posed for the modern viewer by the eroticized body of the
political ruler, which wasn t a problem for the ancient Mesopotamians; that sexuality was inextricably
linked to potency to male vigor and manly vigor to dominance and authority. In other words, Irene
Winter s thesis is about sexuality signifying rule in ancient times.

The purpose of such votive statuary placed in temples was to urge the donors might to remain in a
state of everlasting prayer. For example, The relief scene beneath Ur Ningirsu s bare feet, of kneeling
men bearing full baskets, may represent bearers of ritual offerings.
3.2 Describe the head of Ur Ningirsu and identify similarities with representations of his father Gudea
(as noted in the article and based on your observations).
Head of Ur Ningirsu:
Head of Ur Ningirsu is beardless and large, rather cubic shaped that sits on shoulders without much of
a neck.
It has large, heavy lidded eyes.
The curving eyebrows meet on the bridge of the nose and are accentuated by incised lines in a
herringbone pattern.
It also has a prominent nose, a closed mouth with nicely shaped lips
The strong jaw is very similar to that seen on the rare intact statues of his father, Gudea, portraying an
actual physiognomic family trait.
3.3 Describe the challenges in trying to bring together the head of Ur Ningirsu at the Metropolitan
Museum in New York and the body of Ur Ningirsu at the Musee du Louvre in

Sometimes the retrieval process is quite simple, while other times it seems to be almost impossible. An experiment was done to investigate the effect of list position on free recall. The serial position effect refers to the U shaped pattern presentation on a free recall task. The accuracy of item recall depends on the order that the stimulus is presented. The serial position curve is an example of how the recency and primacy effect appears to have influence on recall. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The participant is permitted to use any form of memory strategies available. The independent variables are the letters being presented and its serial positioning. The dependent variable is the proportion of times each letter is recalled. Results The graph below shows the U shaped pattern presentation, which shows the serial position effect. As presented in the graph, the position of the item effects the ability of recall. Primacy effect can be seen in the beginning of the graph, and the receneny effect can be seen at the end of the graph. The results indicate that as serial positioning of the item increased the accuracy percentage decreased. Provided below is the graph of the average experiment results of PSY270 winter Class. Discussion It was hypothesized that participants will recall the last items most accurately, first items fairly accurate and middle items the least accurate. However, the results of the curve could vary depending on the memory strategies used and the order that the participant recalls the items. Most often participants will recall the last few items presented first which would cause the latter end of the U shaped curve to be higher. The result of the experiment was consistent with the hypothesis to an extent. The results of the experiment demonstrate that the primacy effect is larger than that of the recency effect. The melody is mostly stepwise and the tierce de Picarrdie in bar 4 gives a sense of balanced phrasing. This is felt again in bar 8, due to the consonant 4th. Therefore, there has been a great tension to whether intuitions or reasons play critical role in making moral judgments. Haidt (2001) argues moral reasoning involves a conscious process, which means that the process is slower, effortful, deliberate, and controllable, while moral intuition process occurs unconsciously and thus, the process is faster, automatic and effortlessly. Thereby, Haidt (2001) contends reasoning still play a role in moral judgments, nevertheless, it is most likely as a post hoc attempt to justify one s intuition driven moral judgments. However, there are still some studies maintaining reasons as the master in making moral judgments (Kohlberg, Levine, Hewer, 1983; Kuhn, 1991). Kuhn (1991) describes people still follow their reasoning to make judgments even though it might contradicts with their initial intuitions. Greene, Sommerville, Nystrom, Darley, and Cohen (2001) propose dual process theory in order to consolidate these two approaches. They explain that both reasons and intuitions run in parallel or mutually competitive roles in making moral judgments. They further describe that intuitions or known as automatic emotional responses drive deontological judgments, while ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Through my time there I was fortunate to be able to shadow and assist both the ophthalmologists and optometrists. While taking corneal topographies of patients eyes before they were examined, my interest continued to grow and that interest blossomed into a desire to pursue this as a career when I had the opportunity to witness my first eye surgery. Though the pterygiectomy was a simple procedure, I was inspired by the fact that it could allow the patient to see better, changing their life. Research indicates that this is largely due to the overall increase in both sodium and sugar intake, in children, and that nutrition is extremely important in overall eye health. Through all of these experiences, the most important thing I have learned is that there is so much more to learn. With continued research the science is constantly growing, with more information uncovered all the time. For instance, I recently attended a presentation by an ophthalmologist, Dr. Rosenfarb, about eye disease and acupuncture. I learned how the eyes related to the qi and all of the organs in our bodies. However, people need beliefs and values to live their lives. They require a system of moral principles to make decisions. In other words, people consciously or unconsciously apply ethics in their daily lives, whether they believe in it or not. Thus, metaethics is not about discovering the right action or doing good, it is about how humans determine if something is good or not and whether we are obligated to take the right action or not (Sullivan Pecorino, 2002). Implications of Ethical Thinking An ethical person is aware of the basic principles governing moral conduct and acts in consistency with those principles. Thus, ethical thinking provides people with a moral framework to work through their ethical dilemmas (Pecorino, 2000). For example, given a patient who has been in an irreversible coma for a long time and has no immediate family, is it morally justifiable to end his suffering by taking him off life support? Ethical frameworks guide the doctors to make a decision in a seemingly impossible situation where a person s life is balanced with his suffering and the hospital s resources. From a moral non realistic perspective, the decision depends upon the culture and beliefs of the people involved. Thus, the doctors might support mercy killing, in order to allow the patient to die with dignity, rather than force him to live and let him experience the deterioration of his organs. Therefore, in this case euthanasia is permitted, according to moral non realists because it is best for the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A recluse for nearly her entire life, Dickinson had plenty of time to become the distinguished prolific poet she is commonly recognized as being in present day. Dickinson wrote hundreds upon hundreds of brilliant poems in her lifetime, but I Heard a Fly Buzz When I Died stands out as unique among them all. The speaker s point of view coming from an after death perspective is but one of the many details that makes this poem so intricately distant from the rest. Along with that detail, Dickinson uses multiple other poetic devices, like similes, metaphors, and personification, to develop her viewpoint of life surrounding death, establishing an overarching theme of death being simple. As alluded to in the poem, Faith is fine a invention , Dickinson had a wary conception of the afterlife and spirituality in general. Furthermore, descriptions of Dickinson portray her as a consistent agnostic, although she was also described as being heavily influenced by Puritan religious beliefs. Through this character trait readers can begin to develop the background story behind I Heard a Fly Buzz When I Died as well as begin to understand how Dickinson s viewpoints on faith and death could have helped shaped the poem in it s entirety. Within the very first line of the poem, readers are already asked to question the importance of a fly s presence juxtaposed to the death of the speaker. In this opening line the ...
