The Survival Of Man Depends On The Early Construction Of...
IntroductionThe survival of man depends on the early construction of an ultraintelligent machine
(Good, 1965). As early as the 1960s renowned scientists such as Good and Neumann theorized of
an intelligence explosion, now known as the technology singularity, resulting from intelligent
machines designing their next generation without human intervention. This idea of artificial
intelligence (AI) has grown immensely and is a common topic amongst scholars, scientists, and
theorists in the mathematic and scientific world. The key idea underlying the impending
Singularity is that the pace of change of our human created technology is accelerating and its
powers are expanding at an exponential pace. Exponential growth is deceptive. It starts out
almost imperceptibly and then explodes with unexpected fury unexpected, that is, if one does not
take care to follow its trajectory (Kurzweil, 8, 2005). Ray Kurzweil a scientist, inventor, author,
and current director of engineering at Google is the leading theorist of the Singularity. So what is
the singularity you ask? Most simply put Kurzweil defines it as, a future period during which the
pace of technological change will be so rapid, its impact so deep, that human life will be
irreversibly transformed (Kurzweil, 2005, 7). Currently we are in the early stages of the transition.
The acceleration of the paradigm shift (the rate at which we change fundamental technical
approached) as well as the exponential growth of

Cause And Effect Of Tornados
To form a tornado the atmosphere needs to create an instability. The air closest to the ground will
be warm, humid, and have south facing winds. In the upper atmosphere, the air will be cold with
west or southwest facing winds. These two components in the upper and lower atmosphere together
create the atmospheric instability. Another key component to form a tornadois wind shear. Wind
shear is the change in wind speed and direction of wind while the warmer and cooler air are
chasing each other around in the circle, creating the height of the tornado. ( Prepare for a Tornado,
2017) Although tornados have been recorded in every continent except for Antarctica most are
found in central United States better known as tornado alley a stretch of land from the western
part of Texas to North Dakota. On average, there are two thousand tornadoes annually, but two out
of three of those tornadoes happen in the United States. The states with the most tornados on
average are Texas, Kansas, Oklahoma, and Florida. Tornadoes form in the central part of the
United States most commonly because of the reoccurring atmospheric instability from the dry
polar air that meets the warm moist air from the Gulf of Mexico. (Prepare for a Tornado, 2017) A
storm capable of producing a tornado can occur at any time but most often they occur in the spring
and summer, June and May have the highest number of tornados recorded. Tornadoes can happen at
any time of the day but most often occur between the

limbs were amputated and often reattached to other parts of the body, others were exposed to
lethal doses of x ray radiation and people were injected with horse urine in their stomach causing
numerous infections. And probably the worst one is vivisection on infant and children and when

Federal Indian Policies
Beginning in 1789 with George Washington, the Indians living next to the American people forced
federal Indian policies to be created, which ranged from coexistence to removal. These policies
under the seven different presidents coincided in ways regarding expansion and removal, but also
changed in ways regarding American interaction, civilization, and removal tactics of the Indians.
Despite the consistent similarities in federal Indian policies during the years between the
Washington and Jackson Administrations, the time frame ultimately led to major evolvement and
transformations in viewpoints, treatments, and actions.
George Washington and John Adams administrations had similar intentions, but policies were
changing when Thomas Jefferson ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In a sudden manner, the voluntary movements of Natives to lands west of the Mississippi became
politically and militarily enforced movement to a specific territory, what is now present day
Oklahoma. James Monroe, a consistent president in assisting the tribes, was willing to help the
Natives establish their own land to civilize (James Monroe and the Indians). John Quincy Adams
encouraged the movement of Indians to west of the Mississippi, but also while purchasing their
previous land, rather than annexing it(Presidency of John Quincy Adams). These methods kept
peace and negotiation between the Indians and the Americans. As soon as Jackson was elected
president, he called for military force to remove the Indians from their land through the Indian
Removal Act. This sudden modification was because of Jackson s belief that Indians should not
live east of the Mississippi river and strongly urged the use of military action prior to his election
in 1829. Due to Jackson s new law, Indian Nations were forced to move into Oklahoma on the Trail
of Tears, which resulted in many deaths (Indian Removal Act). The removal of Indians continued
on from Monroe s administration, however, this was conclusively brought on by the desire of
westward expansion, which began with Washington s

Study Area Of East Harbor
Methods
Study Area East Harbor is a 291 hectare back barrier salt marsh and coastal lagoon that is located
within the Cape Cod National Seashore (CCNS), in Truro Massachusetts (Thiet et al. 2014a;
Thelen Thiet, 2009). The East Harbor system was artificially isolated from the Cape Cod Bay in
1868 when the original 1000 ft wide inlet was diked due to the construction of a causeway for
use by trains and automobiles (Portnoy et al. 2006). In 1894, a drainage system was installed
that allowed freshwater to escape the system (Portnoy et al. 2006). However, no sea water could
enter the system due to a one way flapper valve and the exclusion of the tides caused the salinity
to decline from 25 30 parts per thousand (ppt) into brackish water with a salinity of around 5 ppt
(Portnoy, 2013; Smith Medeiros, 2013). The creation of a nearly fresh water system ultimately led
to a variety of ecological problems in East Harbor (Smith Medeiros, 2013), and many native
estuarine fauna and flora were extirpated (Portnoy, 2013). The tidal restriction caused summertime
oxygen stress (Thelen, 2009) and in 2001, an oxygen depletion created a fish kill involving around
40,000 alewives (Alosa pseudoharengus) and several hundred white perch (Morone Americana)
(Portnoy, 2013). This, along with a multitude of previous water quality related problems prompted
restoration efforts to begin (Thelen, 2009). In 2002, after nearly 150 years of tidal flow restriction,
the flapper valve was permanently

Reaction Paper On Aldactazide
ALDACTAZIDE BEST ONLINE BUY|Aldactazide profile,stacks,prices,...Aldactazide is a trade
name for an oral, combination diuretic. Aldactazide contains a mixture of spironolactone
(Aldactide) and hydrochlorthiazide (Hydrodiuril). Aldactone is a milder, potassium sparing diuretic
while Hydrodiuril is a more potent compound from the thiazide family. The combination produces a
diureticwith potency comparable to that seen with a doubling in thiazide dosage (when used alone),
but without the same level of calcium and potassium excretion. While a potassium supplement is
often required with thiazide treatment, the balance of the two drugs in Aldactazide virtually
eliminates this need.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The user, depending on individual needs, will need to judge the timing of his diuretic use in
relation to the weigh in or show. The whole intake/preparation schedule should also not run
longer than a few days, so as to minimize potential health risks. It is also much more effective
when the athlete is familiar with the process well before actually needing to do so. This way
frantic last minute diuretic use can be avoided, as the user should be fully prepared. When
administered haphazardly, it is very easy to achieve too great a diuretic effect. The result in this
case might not be a defined look, but a flat, deflated appearance brought about by severe
dehydration. The most common practice among athletes is to administer a single 50 mg/50 mg
tablet in the morning (with a meal), and to wait and judge the diuretic effect. After a number of
hours, this is repeated if a stronger effect is needed. Usually 2 3 tablets will be

Serial Killer Psychology
The mind of a serial killer has been researched for years and years. Since the earliest serial killers
to the most recent, everyone wants to know what goes on in a serial killers mind. Do they just
kill because they want to see people suffer or deep down is there something wrong with them? It
could be that they are working for the devil as some people may say. It may just be that these
people are downright crazy and killing is what they want to do. A lot of things in the mind can
force a serial killerto kill, whether it is the mental disorder they are suffering from, the feelings they
have (lust, glory, rage, et cetera), or it is the history of mental, physical, and sexual abuse they have
gone through. Although it may not seem like it... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Whether it is something that happened or something imagined. Rage serial killers are probably
the most dangerous because you can never predict when they are going to kill. Anger is built up

even if you tried. People that kill for lust, glory, and rage are probably the most dangerous because
most of them are family men who do not have a history of mental

Whaling Persuasive Essay
Whaling is an old and inhumane practice that should be stopped. In fact the act of commercial
whaling is illegal under international law. Japan still continues this practice today, despite orders to
stop given to the Japanese government by the UN s International Court of Justice in March of 2014
(WDC). Even before that ruling Japan has been asked by the international community to stop
whaling, but they continued to do so through a loop hole in the International Whaling Commission
or IWC. That hole about the size of a loop, says that whaling for scientific research is legal. The
Japanese government should stop illegal practice of whaling because it is inhumane, these whales
will go extinct if this continues, and we the international community have already asked for this
to stop. The act of commercial whaling is inhumane. Japan says that they are doing scientific
research, right. Does the researched include all the economic data of how well whale meat sells
domestically in Japan, along with all the other projects they make out of the whale carcasses.
There can be some understanding that people need to eat and humans have been eating animals
since we have been on this planet. People have domesticated some animals for this exact purpose.
Cattle, pigs, and chickens being the main animals for this in the world. There is some argument of
this matter about how humane current slaughtering practices are, but I see as how much pain the
animal must go through. With these domesticated food sources, like with cattle they have this bolt
pistol or some other conventional firearm, that they put up to the head of the animal and fire it.
This kills the animal instantly or renders it unconscious before the animal is bled. How does this
relate to whaling; the time of death. In whaling the whalers go into the ocean a shoot these
harpoons with rope attached to it out of a cannon at the whales. At the tip of these harpoons there
is a grenade that detonates right after the impact inside the whale (WDCSUK). This would
probably kill anything else instantly, but since whales are so huge they have to wait a couple of
minutes for the poor thing to bleed out. If whaling continues, the affected whale species will go
extinct. Here the

Otto Hahn
Intro Otto Hahn was the man of the times. He was associated with the greatest minds of the
Twentieth century and founded many scientific principles of the Twenty first. His work in mid war
Germany shaped the path of not only his own, but many nations. This is the investigation pertaining
to the life and works of Otto Hahn.
Childhood and Education Otto grew up as the son of a middle class Glazier (Glass fitter) and
attended the Goethe Gymnasium where he took an interest in classics. He grew up as many
boys, collecting stamps and the like, but even at an early age he was finishing in the tops of all
his classes. He struggled with illness as a child and at several instances almost died. Even when he

Hahn not only discovered nuclear fission but also discovered many new isotopes, namely,
radiothorium (thorium 228), polonium 212, lead 210, and thorium 227. More terrifyingly for
Hahn, he concocted poison gases in World War One, some of his own creation and some merely
by following orders. In fact most shockingly, Hahn was never quite looking for nuclear fission.
He enjoyed researching and discovering new radioactive isotopes and it was because of this that
he stumbled upon nuclear fission. When Hahn discovered nuclear fission he had been working
near to it for many a year with Lisa Meitner. Meitner and Hahn worked for years in Germany
together and remained friends throughout their lives. In Germany they discovered isotopes
together by bombarding certain particles with neutrons and observing how they reacted. When
Meitner and Hahn researched nuclear fission, Hahn discovered particle induced fission. Otto did
this by conducting an experiment in which they fired neutrons at Uranium 235 and observed its
byproducts. From this experiment they discovered that Kr 92 and Ba 141 were produced along
with extremely large amounts of energy and gamma radiation. At first Otto could not believe the
results of his experiment, for it was so contrary to all he had believed. But after he had repeated it
and confirmed the results with Meitner he knew

Final Project: Research Essay
Leonard Hermoso
Art Institute of California: Hollywood Abstract
Since its early days, the media have always had a hand at molding who we are as a society. It is
an extension of our culture and who we are. It has been a conduit of knowledge and information
from person to person. A consistent attribute of media is the desire of the elites to control it and a
resistance from people that want more freedom from such influences. Today, it is all around us,
affecting most, if not all, of our daily lives. It influences how kids grow up in our society. It creates
ideals that we want so much to achieve; labels us in order to promote the consumer culture. Being
filled with media all the time, it can affect our society in a way that most people would think are
negative. It can be a source of unrealistic expectations, a distorted look on reality, a distorted
image of beauty and a reason health to deteriorate, be it physically or mentally. The media is a
blessing for us, but one must be careful with it for it will always be accompanied with things that
can have a negative effect on us.
The media has become a part of us, a part of something that shapes who we are, our desires, and
what we expect to have in life. Throughout his book: Understanding Media Cultures: Social Theory
and Mass Communication, Stevenson Nick asserted that the media has become an extension of
who we are, and an extension of what we have become and can

The American Hero
Every child has fantasy s of being a super hero and leaping tall buildings in a single bound or
staring death in the face everyday and somehow finding a way to escape. All of these imaginative
thoughts have been derived from the past literary works by the great writers of the early American
literary period. These early writers entered society into a world of action and adventure, where one
can see spectacular events unfolding through the eyes of a notorious man of courage and feel as
though they are defending there country or saving the woman they love. Though the modern heroes
are much more popular than classic American heroes, the modern hero has rooted from these same

The Causes Of The BCG Interventions
Factors behind the second paradox
The biggest difference between Japan and the low TB incidence countries for the interventions for
children is to use the BCG vaccination as a routine (Ministry of Health Labour and Welfare,

The first administration was in Paris in 1921 and then BCG was accepted in Europe (Daniel, 2006;

Japan has a good healthcare system (OECD, 2015), and it was estimated that universal health
coverage and social protection was about 87%, which is one of the highest proportions in the
world, in 2015 (WHO, 2017). Moreover, the rate of MDR TB patients was 0.5%, and Japan is
the fifth largest donor to The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria (Kunii ,
2017). In light of these facts, the Japanese situation seems to be different from what is occurring
globally. With regards to public health, an important framework for considering the sustainability
and resilience of possible implementations is economy, society and environment (Martin, 2015, p.
81). Hence, applying this framework to Japan, the society facet is its sizeable elderly population
and the environmental facet involves both patient and doctor delay. The key factor in terms of the
economic aspect is Japan s socially vulnerable population. Kawatsu, Ishikawa and Uchimura
(2015) state that in order to enable Japan to become a low TB incidence country, Japan should take
the groups that are high risk but that have low populations into consideration. These groups are the
homeless and foreigners. The TB incidence rates for these two groups are much lower than for low
TB incidence countries, however there is a slightly increasing trend for these groups (Tuberculosis

How Sugar Metabolism Affects Your Body
The carbohydrates you eat are either complex starches or simple sugars. No matter what the source,
your body breaks down your dietary carbohydrates into their simplest component, usually glucose.
The primary function of sugar in your body metabolism is to provide energy to power your
activities. Additionally, sugarcan convert to a stored form of energy in your body, and it plays a role
in conserving your lean muscle mass.
Background
The starches you consume consist of large molecules of glucose linked together. Digestive enzymes
secreted from your salivary glands and pancreas clip the starch into individual glucose units as your
food passes from your mouth through your stomach and into your small intestine. Glucose, along
with other simple sugars you eat, pass through the cells of your small intestine, enter your
bloodstream and, with the help of insulin, move into the cells of your liver and other tissues. From
here, sugar molecules can burn as fuel or convert to different types of physiological molecules.

Examples Of Supreme Court Cases
Disclosures, Lies and Liabilities: A Case to Tell the Truth
Integrity is one thing that must remain unscathed throughout the career of a law enforcement
officer. It means being morally upright and having the quality of being honest (integrity, 2016).
Trustworthiness, virtue, righteousness, honor, and honesty describe what it is to be a law
enforcement officer. These are the attributes communities expect of the men and women who take
an oath to protect them. Three United States Supreme Court cases deal with lying and the
liability it presents for law enforcement agencies. These cases are Brady v. Maryland, 373 U.S. 83
(1963), Giglio v. United States, 405 U.S. 150 (1972), and United States v. Agurs, 427 U.S. 97
(1976). The decisions in these ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
All three cases presented here deal with the disclosure of evidence by the prosecution. A court trial
is the pursuit of truth that results in a verdict of guilt or innocence depending on the evidence the
prosecution and defense present to the Court. When the prosecution fails to disclose evidence that
is exculpatory, then where is the whole truth? Revealing all evidence is necessary to see the whole
picture of what really happened. In Brady v. Maryland, the prosecution purposely omitted
evidence. In Giglio v. United States, the prosecution failed to disclose an arrangement where there
were concerns about the reliability of the witness. In United States v. Agurs, the prosecution again
failed to disclose exculpatory evidence. The Court held that all three cases resulted in the violation
of the Due Process Clause from the failure of such disclosures. Law enforcement officers are part
of the prosecutorial process. They submit the evidence they gather to the prosecuting attorneys for
presentation at a trial. If a law enforcement officer fails to submit all evidence, destroys evidence, or
lies about evidence, then he or she is lying about the case they investigate. Defense attorneys will
question the credibility and intent of the officer and prosecution if the intentionally exclude
evidence or lie about the evidence that gathered. If any court finds an officer untruthful in the
presentation of evidence, then their credibility and integrity is lost. Cases following

Building Relationships With Customers Is A Key Marketing...
Building enduring relationships with customers is a key marketing objective for most firms

self enhancement (Marin et al., 2009). Customers will feel the motivational impulse to attain a
psychological attachment to a brandwhen they perceive the brand as attractive and as partially
fulfilling one or more of their fundamental self definitional needs (CurrГЎs PГ©rez et al., 2009).
Customer experience is generated from customer value and is a customer s perception based on
interactions through either direct use or distance appreciation of products (Hansen Christensen,
2003). Holbrook s (2002) stated that there are three values measuring user experience: usability,
social value and usage pleasure. Usability can be defined through efficiency, learnability,
memorability, and represents a broader construct integrating perceived ease of use and perceived
usefulness. Social value accrues to the user because of possessing a particular product. Finally,
pleasure is referred to as soft functionality of a product that represent hedonic value that defines
emotional relationship of a user with a product (Cited in Mishra, 2016). There are some concepts

Awesome Dawes
Gymnastics is one of the hardest sports to do in the world, with four different events female
gymnast compete in. Some gymnasts have stood out in history and should be recognized like
Dominique Dawes, Mary Lou Retton, Kerri Strug, and Nadia Comaneci. These are the gymnast

medaled in the olympics, in some sort of hall of fame, and they must have competed in nationals.
Dominique Dawes competed for 14 years, and she started gymnastics in 1982 and ended her
career in 1996. She is known as Awesome Dawesome , she was apart of the U.S. national team

The Houston Astros have been the class of Major League Baseball, leading both leagues with 44

Judge became the first player at the new Yankee Stadium to hit a ball completely over the
bleachers in left field, a prodigious 495 foot blast that had retired Yankee icon Paul O Neill
laughing in the broadcast booth. Judge homered again in his next at bat, shooting a 402 foot
missile over right center field wall. The rookie leads the American League in all three triple
crown categories (21 home runs, 47 RBI, .344 BA), while also leading the AL with 54 runs scored
and 38 walks with a ridiculous .450 on base percentage.
The Yankees lead all of MLB with a +115 run differential (Houston is second at +98), and their
offense is first in home runs (102), runs scored (353), RBI (335), slugging percentage (.476), on

is also sixth in walks (237).
As impressive as the Yankees offense has been, it should get even better with the return of first

The Concepts Of Microeconomics While At San Pasqual High...
Students at San Pasqual High School created a music video outlining the major concepts of
microeconomics while at the same time relating each lesson to the real world, albeit in a humorous
manner. The application of these ideas in the video ranged from determining the price of gas to
finding a dance partner. The concepts addressed by the students including market structures,
government intervention, elasticity, and scarcity, that all hold value in everyday life and an
understanding of their importance can contribute significant benefits to the power of the consumer
within the market. To begin, one of the first concepts introduced by the video was that of market
structures. Market structures are categorized as a result of variables that... Show more content on

As a consumer, knowledge of the various market structures allows for the understanding of the
motivations and decisions made by certain firms, and can assist in the making of calculated
purchases. For instance, the student in the video hypothesized that gas prices were rising
because multiple gas firms within an oligopoly were colluding and artificially raising prices.
With this information, one can choose to take their purchase to another firm who does not
appear to be colluding and purchase a substitute good for a cheaper price. If enough consumers
are aware of the strategies utilized by firms within markets structures such as monopolies and
oligopolies, action can be taken in order to prevent costs of goods from reaching levels that only
benefit producers. The power that each consumer s purchase holds is often underestimated, and
if used wisely, can help to create a market that fosters innovation and rewards firms with fair
prices. The next major topic the video focused upon was elasticity. Elasticity is a measure of
how sensitive producers and consumers to changes in price of a good or a service. If a good
/service is elastic, willingness to purchase changes significantly with a small change in price.
Conversely, if a good/service is inelastic, the market does not react very much in response to a
change in price. The concept of elasticity was introduced in the music video when a student was

Risk And Politics Of Disaster Coverage
Analysis of Risk and Politics of Disaster Coverage in Haiti and Katrina
Introduction and Purpose of the Study The article, Risk and Politics of Disaster Coverage in Haiti
and Katrina, by Jennifer Petersen of the University of Virginia, which appeared in the journal
Communication, Culture Critique in 2014, provides a comparison and contrast of the media
coverage of Hurricane Katrina (2005), which devastated the U.S. Gulf Coast and was the costliest
natural disaster in the nation s history, and the Jan. 12, 2010 earthquake in Haiti, which devastated
one of the poorest nations in the Western Hemisphere. The purpose of the article is to discuss the
reasons why the news media framed Hurricane Katrina as an unmitigated and unimaginable
catastrophe that violated expected norms, while the 2010 Haiti earthquake was framed as an almost
routine and manageable crisis, despite the fact that the Haiti earthquake caused much more loss of
life and human suffering than Katrina. This purpose is discussed in both the short, nine line
abstract, and the introduction.
Literature Review and Research Questions Petersen cites more than 50 sources as references for
her study. Many of these sources are the news programs on NBC and CNN, which she compared
when reviewing the coverage of each disaster. However, the reference list also includes a fair
number of other scholarly journal articles and publications by reputable academic publishers. The

Swot Analysis Of Delta Air Lines
In 2012, Delta Air Lines had emerged like the phoenix, from the ashes of a 2008, Chapter 11
bankruptcy to become the second largest airline worldwide. Through its network of operations,
Delta provides air transport both domestically and internationally for cargo, mail, and passengers.
In the past, Delta successfully utilized mergers and acquisitions to increase its market share and
grow its existing service base. Since 2012, Delta has been aggressively seeking out new
opportunities for further growth in a volatile market with high price elasticity and low brand
loyalty. The 2008 merger with Northwest Airlinesleft Delta with higher long term debt, making
Delta vulnerable limited debt assumption required for future growth.

Delta can utilize these current benefits to emerge as a lower cost option through its increased
buying power and lower overhead costs, allowing Delta to gain higher margins while maintaining
competitive pricing with its main two competitors, American Airlines and United Airlines.
Additionally, the efficiency of the reduced fuel and operations cost structure enables Delta to set its
pricing lower than that of its competitors, which, in the end, will capture much of its competitor s
market share including that of its mid line competitor US Airways. The increased buying power for
fuel contracts will give Delta a competitive advantage should we see another spike in crude oil due
to conflicts in the Middle East. Delta must also compete with the value pricing of its lower end,
economy competitors Southwest and Jet Blue. Southwest Airlines stands out in the pack and
boasts, according to a customer satisfaction index, the highest customer satisfaction rating in the
industry at 81% in 2011.
Finding of Fact 2
Delta is forced to compete with low cost carriers.
As the old adage goes, if you can t beat them, join them . Delta s current business model makes it
incredibly difficult to compete with low cost airline carriers. The acquisition of Southwest would
not center on product differentiation but rather as the product or commodity when compared to
Delta s competitors. Delta has long proved that it is incapable of merging with or sustaining a low
cost airline. The

Creativity And The Mad Genius
Creativity and the Mad Genius On July 2, 1961, Ernest Hemingway put a gun to his head.
Seventy one years earlier, on July 29, 1890, Vincent van Gogh shot himself in the abdomen
while painting a wheat field. Robin Williams hung himself on August 24, 2014, less than two
centuries after Vincent van Gogh. Along with Ludwig von Beethoven, who died of natural
causes in 1827, four of the greatest creative minds each suffered from bipolar disorder,
depression, or epilepsy, usually suffering from other physical ailments as well. Ernest
Hemingway was the only one to seem to have a genetic disposition towards mental illness. None
of these men led similar lives. Van Gogh only saw one of his paintings sold, while Beethoven
was an acclaimed composer by the age of twenty nine. Hemingway was friends with some of the
greatest literary minds of the day, and Robin Williams was one of the most successful comedians
to date. The common link, besides their mental illnesses, is the idea that each of these men were
searching for something more within their respective arts. Four fields of fine arts that require the
constant creation of something new claimed the lives of four men who gave it all they had, some
losing, and some finding themselves along the way. Over the past sixty years, facts about
depression and the reality of it have come to light; however, there are still negative stigmas
concerning the mental illness and how people ought to endure through the pain. Despite these

Persuasive Speech About Suicide
So this is a topic that I have been wanting to write for a very long time because I think that it is
something that everyone has been impacted in some way or another. I kept making excuses why
not to talk about this, but today while I was at work the song In The End by Linkin Park came on.
Now if you know me very well at all you will know that Linkin Parkis my favorite band of all time,
and I think that most people know, but if you don t know their lead singer Chester Bennington
committed suicidealmost a month ago. The man was fighting demons of sexual abuse from when
he was a kid along with drug and alcohol abuse for years and it caught up to him. He was the
father of six kids and had a wife he had a successful career and seemed like a happy man. Yet,
unfortunately, he took his life.
I know this is a very taboo topic and that a lot of people don t like talking about, especially inside
the Mormon community. It is something that I believe we need to be able to talk about more. I
really believe that those who suffer from depression as well as other things that can lead to suicide
need to be able to feel comfortable about talking about how they feel without any judgement from
those around them. This in turn I believe will help them realize how much they are loved by those
around them and hopefully will not make a decision such as suicide.
I don t know how many of you have known someone who has committed suicide, but it is
something that I feel like a lot of people have

centuries in a variety of civilizations (Gossett Kähler, 2014). The field of molecular biology
has drastically progressed the field of biotechnology essentially operating on higher order of
magnitude than our ancestors. With more knowledge of genetic material and metabolic
functions, scientists have been capable of extraordinary feats from gene therapy to genomic
sequencing. The advancements in biotechnology and in other research areas has also increased
the potential misuse of scientific research that could be used to harm humanity and the world
instead of help it. This concept has been dubbed dual use research and defined to be technology
that could be used for general public and combat purposes (Rath et al., 2014). The possible usage
of biological weapons (BW) has increased with growing technology and disputes amongst nations.
The use of genetic engineering has greatly opened opportunities for specifically generated
weapons to be produced. The Biological Weapons Convention (BWC) has stopped production and
storage of BW but select parties are permitted to study and perform research on potential BW as
long as it s for neutral or beneficial objectives (Biological Weapons Convention, 2001). These
conditions have inflicted major concern within the general public and inaugurated major ethical

At the resolution, the writer does not tell the outcome of the short story either the princess has do
overcome her jealousy towards the lady, and let her have him or choose the death for the young

The next theme is social status. From the beginning of the story, this theme already could be seen
when the writer narrates the atmosphere and scenery of the kingdom with the life of the people.
The social status here divides the royal family with the people. The serious relationship between
these two groups is prohibited as this will give a bad image to the royal family. That s why the
young man is being trialled in the arena as his punishment when the love between the princess and
himself has been known by the king.
Lastly, the theme that also can be interpreted in this short story is loyalty or we can said, blindly
loyal. This theme covers up mostly the part starting when the young man has been accused and
will be trialled in the arena. The young man loyal to the king s command and does not dispute or
argue about it. The people also blindly loyal to their king and no one questioned about the king s
command although they know that this is not fair for the young man.

Sartre s Conception Of Human Consciousness
A question that continues to puzzle scholars (and Honors students, alike) is that of what defines
human consciousness. It would be simple to say that it is defined by one s awareness of itself and
of its surroundings. What makes the question so difficult to answer, though, is that consciousness
is much more than an acute awareness; it is the process of becoming aware, finding the purpose of
our consciousness, and building morals and intelligence from that awareness that entangles those
who search for answers in a web of utter confusion. In beginning my search for the understanding
of consciousness, I chose to look into the thoughts and beliefs of Karl Marx and Jean Paul Sartre.
Marx and Sartre are similar in their philosophyin that... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Starting with Sartre s existentialist point of view, consciousness is defined as being for itself.
When we are for itself, we recognize our consciousness, but also understand that we are
incomplete (SparkNotes Editors, 2005). This notion of being for itself is what makes clear
Sartre s belief that existence proceeds essence; we aren t born with innate traits, but rather, we
create our consciousness. We are free to choose how we will interpret our surroundings, what we
will believe, and what type of personality we wish to have in accordance to those beliefs and
interpretations. Sartre further explains that this freedom comes with heavy responsibility. Once
we make a choice, we cannot make excuses for ourselves or put the blame on someone or
something else if the choice turns sour or ends up being faulty; when we accept the freedom, we
accept the full responsibility, too. If we fail to take up this responsibility and live dishonestly
about inevitabilities, such as death, or possibilities, we are living in bad faith , as Sartre says. On
the other hand, to live in good faith is to understand and acknowledge that control of the outside
world is not in our hands, yet to still take the responsibility and freedom of choices that we have
over ourselves. Living nobly in good faith may be what is troubling about existentialism to some
people, especially those who are religious. I believe that Sartre feels that humans are innately good
and have the

look at this poem as a celebration of Rome, an effort to hold on to what might be forgotten. Seen

The Basic Foundation Of Classical Realism
The basic foundation of classical realism originally laid out in Thucydides s History of the
Peloponnesian War no longer holds true due to a changing international dynamic that gives small
states and non state actors the ability to control their own actions and exert great influence on large
states and control their own actions. The pivotal concept, the strong do what they can and the weak
suffer what they must, doesn t apply in the 21st century international sphere. This paper will explain
the essential tenets of Thucydidess balance of power theory especially those found in the Melian

The Athenians wipe out much of the Melian population and takes control of the island. While a
necessarily bleak outlook, Thucydides argues that weak states must submit to strong states. This
argument is persuasive in the context of this war and many other conflicts throughout history, but in
the past few decades, a combination of factors has diluted the ability of powerful states to dictate
the terms for weaker states. The globalization of international trade through the WTO and free trade
agreements has largely nullified America s power advantage and disproves the ability of balance of
power politics to explain the international system. America currently has numerous, significant trade
deficits with countries such as Mexico and China. While it can be argued that free trade helps the
American consumer, it is undeniable that these deficits diminish the power that each country holds.
In the case of Mexico, a much weaker power, the United States loses jobs and manufacturing to that
country because of NAFTA and the WTO. In a classical realist world, America would be able to
dictate the terms of trade that would benefit American workers and American economic prosperity.
However, liberal trade institutions put all countries on the same playing field regardless of their
military might. China is

Female And Female Roles And Social Factors
Until the 1970s, sex was known as or related to being a male or either a female. It was also
referred as the sex roles, sex differences or sex changer operation. People saw gender as being
masculine and feminine in certain cultures, like the French and Spanish. Now people see sex in
two ways, either in the biological way or the social factors. Johnson explains the differences
between the biological way and the social factors and the meaning of a maleand femalehas changed
over time and differ by culture. Female and male roles was established by cultural and biological
factors by people around the world. It also has to do with the way people were brought up by
parents and society as a whole. An early feminist named Mary Wollstonecraft wrote a treatise
called Vindication of the Rights of Woman. She wrote this arguing that woman and men are
basically equal. They may be different biologically, but when it comes to the roles of each one
they are the same. She also stated that the roles of society was brought on by society and they aren

Since the first article involved industrial fishing and the damage it can do, the next article will
involve logging. Is China is exporting its environmental problems? . This article discusses China s
campaign to protect the forest. After years of logging the countryside and hills being bare, in 1998,
massive floods caused millions of people to leave their homes (Minter, 2016). With stricter local
bans on logging, the damage was reversed. With that, there is another issue. China has been

The Case Of The Lawsuit
The Complaint Should Be Dismissed Because the Statute of Limitations Has Ran
Shahmaleki s complaint is futile because the statute limitation has run on the civil rights claims. 42
U.S.C. В§ 1982 does not include its own statutes of limitations. Instead, courts borrow limitation
periods from state law. Courts adopt the most analogous limitations period. In Kansas, the
analogous action for В§ 1983 is injury to the rights of another. That means under Kansas law, the
statutes of limitations for claims arising out of В§ 1983 is two years. Here, the statutes of
limitations period has passed. The claim set out by Shahmaleki arose on May 1, 2013. As two
years have passed since the claim arose, the statute of limitations has run and this Court should
dismiss Shahmaleki s complaint.
The amended complaint also does not relate back to the original complaint. An amendment to
change or add a party must meet the requirements listed under 15(c) of the Federal Rules of Civil
Procedure for it relate back. These requirements are 1) the amended claim must arise out of the
conduct, transaction, or occurrence set out in the original pleading, 2) sufficient notice must be
provided to the new parties, and 3) the new defendants must have known or should have known that
the action would be brought against them, but for a mistake concerning the proper party s identity.
In this case, the Defendants do not dispute the first two requirements, but Shahmaleki has not
shown his amended

Parent Involvement Definition
II. Relevant Literature: Parent Involvement and Understandings of Bilingual Education
Parent Involvement is something that is very important and crucial when it comes to the education
of students. Especially to those students who are part of the bilingual programs, parent teacher
communication is key to success for the students. There tends to be a lack of communication
between the school and parents in which is very alarming for the reason that students are not fully
getting the education experience that they should be getting. Parents have the power and potential
to influence bilingual policies and practice at the school, district, and state wide (Lee, 1999 p. 201)

Sometimes parents avoid the communication on purpose. And when they do communicate with the

Gregory A.Cheatham and Sylvia Nyegenye wrote an article on how sometimes parents get the
wrong impression of teachers because of adjectives that teachers use. When there is a language
barrier in between and you use a certain words, it can be sometimes be assumed that teachers could
be stereotyping students or viewing them negatively. For that reason, we need to have a neutral

Hot Flat And Crowded Summary
Hot, Flat, and Crowded written by Thomas L. Friedman examines our need to become a sustainable
country in not just the environment, but also in our financial markets. Friedman argues that the
world is getting hot as a result of global warming (8). Our planet s average temperature is rising.
The increase can be attributed to humans and their use of large scale manufacturing that began with
the Industrial Revolution when manual labor was starting to be replaced by machinery (68).
Friedman s next argues that world is getting flat due to the increase in high consuming middle
classes brought on by technological, market and geopolitical events (8; 66). The combination of
several factors including the invention of personal computers and the Internet, changes in
transmission protocols, collapse of Communism, the Berlin Wall, and the Soviet Union led to...

When flat and crowded intersect you get the energy supply and demand problem. David Douglas,
a chief sustainability officer for a corporation used this analogy: if you give 1 billion people a 60
watt incandescent light bulb and they all use their light bulbs four hours a day, that s 10,000 watts
at any given moment. You would still need about twenty new 500 megawatt coal burning plants
just so the next 1 billion people can turn on their lights (68). We also have to keep in mind that
burning coal releases CO2 and other pollutants into the air which then effects global warming. We
have now brought in the concept of hot. Friedman also gives the example of the cities Doha and
Dalian who have rapidly grown sprouting a mini Manhattan leading to much higher energy
consumptions. He called this high consumption an America lifestyle saying that affluenza, the
unsustainable addition to economic growth was spreading all over the world

Populist Party Analysis
From 1880 to 1925, opinions on whether or not immigrants should be allowed in the United States

idea of immigrants in America. Different specific time periods showed the majority opinion, and
how it changed United Statescitizens reactions to immigrants from a smile of acceptance to a scowl
of distrust. Between the years 1880 and 1890, the American people was generally either accepting

Sociologist Edward Ross wrote a 1914 article in Century Magazine titled :Immigrants in Politics ,

Fitzgerald and the following members of congress: O Connell, Kelihar, Sullivan, and McNary... It
should be noted that all five surnames listed in this segment have roots in Ireland. This article

Similar to the section covering the Black Athena and the nuanced debated surrounding it, there

debate can be summarized in a single question; what is art and what is artifact? Obviously when
asked that question an answer immediately springs to our minds, most likely an image of a
famous artwork we were shown in elementary school and perhaps an image of an archaeological

Travel Ban Persuasive Essay
Donald Trump has recently made a decision to sign a travel ban, which bans seven countries
from entering the United States in a certain amount of days. The travel ban is a very
controversial topic. Many news stations write about it, but show bias either defending it or are
against it. The news caster s are Fox News, New York Times, and a video of John Kelly all show
bias towards a side of the controversy. Fox News shows bias for the travel ban. Fox News uses
quotes from many people in favor of the travel ban they do not use any that are against and if
they do they rebuttal it. Tillerson defended the travel ban, saying Trump is using his rightful
authority to keep people safe. They also used the quote I fully expect this executive order to have

ACLU s Immigrants, Omar Jadwat agreed. These two quotes represent people sharing their
opinions on how good it is and that the travel ban will work well. They state a quote that Donald

differences in ways that people react to stress. At the start of the film, IvГЎn ends his romantic
relationship with Pepa Marcos which stresses Marcos and when she hears his voice at work, she
collapses to the floor in grief. This scene demonstrates how Marcos reacts to their breakup. In the
middle of the film, the audience learns that Candela harbored terrorists in her apartment which
causes her stress because she believes she will be arrested by the police. Candela attempts to
commit suicide, however, Marcos and Carlos rescue her. This scene shows how the stress affected
Candela. At the end, Carlos tells Marcos that LucГa was in a mental hospital after IvГЎn left her.

In Spanish culture, ataques de nervios refers to a person who receives bad news and often reacts
negatively and dramatically through fainting or collapsing to the ground. This element is used with
Marcos, LucГa, and Candela to demonstrate their reactions to stress in their lives. Another element
AlmodГіvar uses is the gazpacho. Carlos uses the gazpacho to drug the policemen. It is
considered polite to accept food offered to you in Spanish culture. Another cultural element in the
film is the traditional roles in the workplace in Spain. For example, the secretary at Marcos s job
is female while the police officers are men. This element is used because the effect machismo has

“A Raisin in the Sun”
Lorraine Hansberry used symbolism in her successful drama, A Raisin in the Sun to portray
emotions felt in the lives of her characters and possible her own. Hansberry set her piece in
Chicago s South Side, probably the early 1950 s. During this period in history, many African
Americans, like the Youngers, struggled to overcome the well known prejudices that were far too
familiar. The main scene, in this touching realist drama, is the home of the Youngers, an
overcrowded run down apartment. Hansberry used this private scenery to enhance the many
feelings the Youngers, and other African Americans, fought to conquer and to embrace in the name
of happiness.
As with families of any ethnic group, the Youngers ultimate goal was to be... Show more content on

Hansberry, not only, played on the condition of the apartment; she used the size as well. The
condition alone portrayed the despair and oppression the Youngers felt, but Hansberry wanted to
make their struggle to suppress depression undeniable. She did this by placing the family of five,
soon to be six, in a two bedroom apartment with no bathroom. This small, cramped apartment also
symbolized the pressures from society to divvy up the limited resources partitioned for African
Americans. By setting the scene this way, Hansberry also was able to set the mood. The feeling of
tension and need for the characters to fight for their fair share is apparent in the opening act, as
Ruth rushes Travis into the bathroom before the neighbors. These feelings serve as a foundation
for the problems in act three between brother and sister, Ruth s motive to have an abortion, and
represent an explanation to the need so many African Americans felt to compete against each
other. Hansberry characterized the lack of resources, a common theme here, not only in the lack of
space, but also in the lack of food, money, and sunlight. As conflict intensified in the small space,
Mama realized that her be loved family was falling apart and only the reality of owning a home
could bring unity. To overcome the mountains of negative emotions the Youngers turn to their
beckons of hope. The three main symbolic items Hansberry used were Mama s

The Causes Of The Khmer Rouge
The Khmer Rouge carried out one of the most horrific genocides in the twentieth century. The
nation of Cambodia was in a near decade civil war between the Communist (Khmer Rouge) and
the monarchy and then the Khmer Republic. The Khmer Rouge won the civil war and controlled
all of Cambodia from 1975 to 1979. During this time, they committed horrific crimes against their
own people. This genocidal regime was one of the worst events in the later years of the 1900s, and
it is not well talked about in schools. The Khmer Rougemovement started back in the 1940s when
Cambodiawas fighting for freedom from the French government. Over the years, the Northern
Vietnamese influenced much of the group s practices and beliefs. They gained so much members
during the Lon Nol era because many Cambodian people lost family from the American
bombings (whom Lon Nol was allied with). Through fear and threats, the Khmer Rouge scared
the people into moving into the countryside. They abolished all things that have to do with
capitalism. They brainwashed people into starving the population, torturing the accused , and
murdering any who oppose the Khmer Rouge way of life and leadership. This led to widespread
poverty of Cambodia, and the people learned to love and respect everyone because of the hate
shown to them during this horrific event. Many, til this day, still do not share their stories of what
happened during this time because they are scared to be reminded of what was committed against
them. That is why the country is still corrupt today because the two decade old prime minister Hun
Senwas an ex Khmer Rouge Soldier. The Khmer Rouge group was created in the 1940s, but it was
during the Vietnam War that the KR gained more power and became more prominent. The Khmer
Rouge is an off shot from the North Vietnamese government and essentially was funded by their
government. The Vietnamese helped to make the KR a real political party in the Cambodian
political system. Without their help, they could not afford to provide a whole army guns, military
vehicles, and other military resources. It was in 68 when the group launched a full scale national
uprising. They wanted to make a unrealistic fair society where there was no

Male Aged Four Years ( 48 Months )
Introduction
The subject of this case study is a male aged four years (48 months). The setting is a voluntary

Consequently child A, through the scaffolding cycle, would be able to utilise his fine motor skills
to do his zip up himself. Hence, child A s skills are developing through the process of scaffolding,
as he will retain this information.
Intellectual
There was a specific observation of mention when Child A was in the computer corner playing a
water themed counting game. When estimating the number of objects on the screen, he used his
fingers to count the sea animals, 1, 2,3,4,5, 6 animals and looked at me for confirmation asking, is
it 6? . This shows that Child A is developing within the usual ranges of development, Estimates how
many objects they can see and checks by counting them , (Development Matters in the EYFS, 2012,
p.34).
Piaget believes children learn best by doing and that they must be additionally active in their own
understanding. He also believes that knowledge must be assembled and reassembled by the child.
Subsequently Child A, within the stages of schema, would experience a new notion of dealing with
numbers. The existing schema does not work as child A has no prior knowledge on counting sea
animals. Thus disequilibrium arises until Child A is able to assimilate and accommodate the
contemporary knowledge and attain equilibrium. Hence, Child A uses his fingers to count aloud
and signify each finger with a specific number. For future recommendation, I would have Child A
complete sums where he can count the objects in two

Memory of a Young Boy in The poem My Papa’s Waltz by...
My Papa s Waltz The poem My Papa s Waltz by Theodore Roethke presents a memory from a
young boy waltzing with his father. The waltz is a metaphor that represents the relationship the
boy has with his father. Although the poem may seem like a happy and sweet story of a father
and son dancing in the kitchen there are also some darker underlying tones. The speaker, who is
the young boy, is directing theses words towards his father, but does not actually express them
directly to the father, instead the speaker is just reflecting upon them in his head. In the first
stanza of the first line the reader finds out the father has been drinking, a lot, so much that his
son also feels dazed from the alcohol on the fathers breath. Also the boy, hung on like death (3)
this is a simile, meaning that he is hanging on tightly even though it may be hard. In the same line
the speaker uses the word death this makes the poem feel a little somber and not very happy. At
the end of the stanza in line four we find out that the boy was having difficulties waltzing with the
father, the dancing they were doing was awkward for the young boy because the father was
inebriated and loose from the drinking. Since the waltzrepresents the relationship they hold, this
could very likely mean that it is not easy to be with his father every so often. Dancing with the
father was not a quiet and graceful moment, but the young boy seems to accept it. In the second
stanza we find out they are doing more

Goldilocks Affirmative Defense
Goldilocks has admitted to having committed the act of murder and burglary, however, she asserts
affirmative defenses that would exonerate her actions from criminal liability. Affirmative dense
brings to light danger for the defense because once admitting the act the defendants have the
burden to, start matters off by putting in some evidence in support of their justification or excuse
defenses (Samaha, 2011). In addition, the burden of production will shift to the defense and it is
now the prosecution s job to cause doubt upon the defense s case. In Goldilocks case of a
justification defense this would involve her use of self defense and its necessity being that under
the circumstances, it was the right thing to do (Samaha, 2011). Furthermore,... Show more content

For an attack to be considered self defense it must apply to four requirements. The first is
unprovoked attacks in which the defender has to have not started or provoked the attack. In
Goldilocks case this is held because she was attempting to leave when Prince Charming saw and
forcibly locked her inside. The second requirement is necessity which is, also known as the
choice of evils, reflects popular moral intuitions and common sense: sometimes, breaking the
rules is the right indeed, the only thing to do in order to avoid a greater evil (Bergelson, 2012).
In Goldilocks case this choice of evils was a fact in both acts the burglary where she was given a
choice to either starve to death or break into a home so she can eat. The other instance was the
Prince Charming reaching for his walking stick that he uses to constantly physically abuse her
and the choice to defend herself. The third element of self defense is proportionality which is the
ability of a defender to use deadly force if no deadly force is not enough to repel the oncoming
attack with no excessive force (Samaha, 2011). In Goldilocks case Prince Charming is not only
bigger and stronger than her she was in no state where she could run away or hide she had no
choice. The last requirement is reasonable belief which is the belief that it was necessary to use
deadly force to repel the imminent deadly attack (Samaha, 2011). In Goldilocks case she was in a
position where she was going to have to fight for her life and the only way should would have
made it out alive was by using the

  • 2. The Survival Of Man Depends On The Early Construction Of... IntroductionThe survival of man depends on the early construction of an ultraintelligent machine (Good, 1965). As early as the 1960s renowned scientists such as Good and Neumann theorized of an intelligence explosion, now known as the technology singularity, resulting from intelligent machines designing their next generation without human intervention. This idea of artificial intelligence (AI) has grown immensely and is a common topic amongst scholars, scientists, and theorists in the mathematic and scientific world. The key idea underlying the impending Singularity is that the pace of change of our human created technology is accelerating and its powers are expanding at an exponential pace. Exponential growth is deceptive. It starts out almost imperceptibly and then explodes with unexpected fury unexpected, that is, if one does not take care to follow its trajectory (Kurzweil, 8, 2005). Ray Kurzweil a scientist, inventor, author, and current director of engineering at Google is the leading theorist of the Singularity. So what is the singularity you ask? Most simply put Kurzweil defines it as, a future period during which the pace of technological change will be so rapid, its impact so deep, that human life will be irreversibly transformed (Kurzweil, 2005, 7). Currently we are in the early stages of the transition. The acceleration of the paradigm shift (the rate at which we change fundamental technical approached) as well as the exponential growth of ... • 6. Cause And Effect Of Tornados To form a tornado the atmosphere needs to create an instability. The air closest to the ground will be warm, humid, and have south facing winds. In the upper atmosphere, the air will be cold with west or southwest facing winds. These two components in the upper and lower atmosphere together create the atmospheric instability. Another key component to form a tornadois wind shear. Wind shear is the change in wind speed and direction of wind while the warmer and cooler air are chasing each other around in the circle, creating the height of the tornado. ( Prepare for a Tornado, 2017) Although tornados have been recorded in every continent except for Antarctica most are found in central United States better known as tornado alley a stretch of land from the western part of Texas to North Dakota. On average, there are two thousand tornadoes annually, but two out of three of those tornadoes happen in the United States. The states with the most tornados on average are Texas, Kansas, Oklahoma, and Florida. Tornadoes form in the central part of the United States most commonly because of the reoccurring atmospheric instability from the dry polar air that meets the warm moist air from the Gulf of Mexico. (Prepare for a Tornado, 2017) A storm capable of producing a tornado can occur at any time but most often they occur in the spring and summer, June and May have the highest number of tornados recorded. Tornadoes can happen at any time of the day but most often occur between the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This is a group that showcases the means people go for knowledge and research, this is a group that is more or as equally as disturbing as the holocaust. It all starts with one man Named Shiro Ishii an extremely bright young mind who had his life all planned out and worked for the military but disappointed with the ban of chemical warfare and from then on was adamant about building chemical weapons to aid his country. He then started traveling the world primarily america and europe to research an extremely contagious disease that was hard to study and when he came back he returned with a project ... Infections were so bad that people s limbs were rotting because of necrosis and that prisoners were hanged upside down to how long it takes for a person to suffocate(deepblacklies) and they were always starving to the point of famine and death other s limbs were amputated and often reattached to other parts of the body, others were exposed to lethal doses of x ray radiation and people were injected with horse urine in their stomach causing numerous infections. And probably the worst one is vivisection on infant and children and when women were pregnant by the guards by rape they vivisected them and often you could see the fetus in them. • 9. Federal Indian Policies Beginning in 1789 with George Washington, the Indians living next to the American people forced federal Indian policies to be created, which ranged from coexistence to removal. These policies under the seven different presidents coincided in ways regarding expansion and removal, but also changed in ways regarding American interaction, civilization, and removal tactics of the Indians. Despite the consistent similarities in federal Indian policies during the years between the Washington and Jackson Administrations, the time frame ultimately led to major evolvement and transformations in viewpoints, treatments, and actions. George Washington and John Adams administrations had similar intentions, but policies were changing when Thomas Jefferson ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In a sudden manner, the voluntary movements of Natives to lands west of the Mississippi became politically and militarily enforced movement to a specific territory, what is now present day Oklahoma. James Monroe, a consistent president in assisting the tribes, was willing to help the Natives establish their own land to civilize (James Monroe and the Indians). John Quincy Adams encouraged the movement of Indians to west of the Mississippi, but also while purchasing their previous land, rather than annexing it(Presidency of John Quincy Adams). These methods kept peace and negotiation between the Indians and the Americans. As soon as Jackson was elected president, he called for military force to remove the Indians from their land through the Indian Removal Act. This sudden modification was because of Jackson s belief that Indians should not live east of the Mississippi river and strongly urged the use of military action prior to his election in 1829. Due to Jackson s new law, Indian Nations were forced to move into Oklahoma on the Trail of Tears, which resulted in many deaths (Indian Removal Act). The removal of Indians continued on from Monroe s administration, however, this was conclusively brought on by the desire of westward expansion, which began with Washington s ... • 10. Study Area Of East Harbor Methods Study Area East Harbor is a 291 hectare back barrier salt marsh and coastal lagoon that is located within the Cape Cod National Seashore (CCNS), in Truro Massachusetts (Thiet et al. 2014a; Thelen Thiet, 2009). The East Harbor system was artificially isolated from the Cape Cod Bay in 1868 when the original 1000 ft wide inlet was diked due to the construction of a causeway for use by trains and automobiles (Portnoy et al. 2006). In 1894, a drainage system was installed that allowed freshwater to escape the system (Portnoy et al. 2006). However, no sea water could enter the system due to a one way flapper valve and the exclusion of the tides caused the salinity to decline from 25 30 parts per thousand (ppt) into brackish water with a salinity of around 5 ppt (Portnoy, 2013; Smith Medeiros, 2013). The creation of a nearly fresh water system ultimately led to a variety of ecological problems in East Harbor (Smith Medeiros, 2013), and many native estuarine fauna and flora were extirpated (Portnoy, 2013). The tidal restriction caused summertime oxygen stress (Thelen, 2009) and in 2001, an oxygen depletion created a fish kill involving around 40,000 alewives (Alosa pseudoharengus) and several hundred white perch (Morone Americana) (Portnoy, 2013). This, along with a multitude of previous water quality related problems prompted restoration efforts to begin (Thelen, 2009). In 2002, after nearly 150 years of tidal flow restriction, the flapper valve was permanently ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. Reaction Paper On Aldactazide ALDACTAZIDE BEST ONLINE BUY|Aldactazide profile,stacks,prices,...Aldactazide is a trade name for an oral, combination diuretic. Aldactazide contains a mixture of spironolactone (Aldactide) and hydrochlorthiazide (Hydrodiuril). Aldactone is a milder, potassium sparing diuretic while Hydrodiuril is a more potent compound from the thiazide family. The combination produces a diureticwith potency comparable to that seen with a doubling in thiazide dosage (when used alone), but without the same level of calcium and potassium excretion. While a potassium supplement is often required with thiazide treatment, the balance of the two drugs in Aldactazide virtually eliminates this need.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The user, depending on individual needs, will need to judge the timing of his diuretic use in relation to the weigh in or show. The whole intake/preparation schedule should also not run longer than a few days, so as to minimize potential health risks. It is also much more effective when the athlete is familiar with the process well before actually needing to do so. This way frantic last minute diuretic use can be avoided, as the user should be fully prepared. When administered haphazardly, it is very easy to achieve too great a diuretic effect. Since the earliest serial killers to the most recent, everyone wants to know what goes on in a serial killers mind. Do they just kill because they want to see people suffer or deep down is there something wrong with them? It could be that they are working for the devil as some people may say. It may just be that these people are downright crazy and killing is what they want to do. A lot of things in the mind can force a serial killerto kill, whether it is the mental disorder they are suffering from, the feelings they have (lust, glory, rage, et cetera), or it is the history of mental, physical, and sexual abuse they have gone through. • 13. Whaling Persuasive Essay Whaling is an old and inhumane practice that should be stopped. In fact the act of commercial whaling is illegal under international law. Japan still continues this practice today, despite orders to stop given to the Japanese government by the UN s International Court of Justice in March of 2014 (WDC). Even before that ruling Japan has been asked by the international community to stop whaling, but they continued to do so through a loop hole in the International Whaling Commission or IWC. That hole about the size of a loop, says that whaling for scientific research is legal. The Japanese government should stop illegal practice of whaling because it is inhumane, these whales will go extinct if this continues, and we the international community have already asked for this to stop. The act of commercial whaling is inhumane. Japan says that they are doing scientific research, right. Does the researched include all the economic data of how well whale meat sells domestically in Japan, along with all the other projects they make out of the whale carcasses. There can be some understanding that people need to eat and humans have been eating animals since we have been on this planet. People have domesticated some animals for this exact purpose. Cattle, pigs, and chickens being the main animals for this in the world. There is some argument of this matter about how humane current slaughtering practices are, but I see as how much pain the animal must go through. With these domesticated food sources, like with cattle they have this bolt pistol or some other conventional firearm, that they put up to the head of the animal and fire it. This kills the animal instantly or renders it unconscious before the animal is bled. How does this relate to whaling; the time of death. In whaling the whalers go into the ocean a shoot these harpoons with rope attached to it out of a cannon at the whales. At the tip of these harpoons there is a grenade that detonates right after the impact inside the whale (WDCSUK). This would probably kill anything else instantly, but since whales are so huge they have to wait a couple of minutes for the poor thing to bleed out. If whaling continues, the affected whale species will go extinct. Here the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Childhood and Education Otto grew up as the son of a middle class Glazier (Glass fitter) and attended the Goethe Gymnasium where he took an interest in classics. More terrifyingly for Hahn, he concocted poison gases in World War One, some of his own creation and some merely by following orders. In fact most shockingly, Hahn was never quite looking for nuclear fission. He enjoyed researching and discovering new radioactive isotopes and it was because of this that he stumbled upon nuclear fission. When Hahn discovered nuclear fission he had been working near to it for many a year with Lisa Meitner. Meitner and Hahn worked for years in Germany together and remained friends throughout their lives. In Germany they discovered isotopes together by bombarding certain particles with neutrons and observing how they reacted. When Meitner and Hahn researched nuclear fission, Hahn discovered particle induced fission. Otto did this by conducting an experiment in which they fired neutrons at Uranium 235 and observed its byproducts. From this experiment they discovered that Kr 92 and Ba 141 were produced along with extremely large amounts of energy and gamma radiation. At first Otto could not believe the results of his experiment, for it was so contrary to all he had believed. But after he had repeated it and confirmed the results with Meitner he knew ... • 15. Art Institute Of Californi Hollywood Visual Language and Culture Final Project: Research Essay Leonard Hermoso Art Institute of California: Hollywood Abstract Since its early days, the media have always had a hand at molding who we are as a society. It is an extension of our culture and who we are. It has been a conduit of knowledge and information from person to person. A consistent attribute of media is the desire of the elites to control it and a resistance from people that want more freedom from such influences. Today, it is all around us, affecting most, if not all, of our daily lives. It influences how kids grow up in our society. It creates ideals that we want so much to achieve; labels us in order to promote the consumer culture. Being filled with media all the time, it can affect our society in a way that most people would think are negative. It can be a source of unrealistic expectations, a distorted look on reality, a distorted image of beauty and a reason health to deteriorate, be it physically or mentally. The media is a blessing for us, but one must be careful with it for it will always be accompanied with things that can have a negative effect on us. The media has become a part of us, a part of something that shapes who we are, our desires, and what we expect to have in life. • 19. How Sugar Metabolism Affects Your Body The carbohydrates you eat are either complex starches or simple sugars. No matter what the source, your body breaks down your dietary carbohydrates into their simplest component, usually glucose. The primary function of sugar in your body metabolism is to provide energy to power your activities. Additionally, sugarcan convert to a stored form of energy in your body, and it plays a role in conserving your lean muscle mass. Background The starches you consume consist of large molecules of glucose linked together. Digestive enzymes secreted from your salivary glands and pancreas clip the starch into individual glucose units as your food passes from your mouth through your stomach and into your small intestine. Glucose, along with other simple sugars you eat, pass through the cells of your small intestine, enter your bloodstream and, with the help of insulin, move into the cells of your liver and other tissues. All three cases presented here deal with the disclosure of evidence by the prosecution. A court trial is the pursuit of truth that results in a verdict of guilt or innocence depending on the evidence the prosecution and defense present to the Court. When the prosecution fails to disclose evidence that is exculpatory, then where is the whole truth? Revealing all evidence is necessary to see the whole picture of what really happened. In Brady v. Maryland, the prosecution purposely omitted evidence. In Giglio v. United States, the prosecution failed to disclose an arrangement where there were concerns about the reliability of the witness. In United States v. Agurs, the prosecution again failed to disclose exculpatory evidence. The Court held that all three cases resulted in the violation of the Due Process Clause from the failure of such disclosures. Law enforcement officers are part of the prosecutorial process. They submit the evidence they gather to the prosecuting attorneys for presentation at a trial. If a law enforcement officer fails to submit all evidence, destroys evidence, or lies about evidence, then he or she is lying about the case they investigate. Defense attorneys will question the credibility and intent of the officer and prosecution if the intentionally exclude evidence or lie about the evidence that gathered. Customers choose to identify with brands they perceive as attractive, motivated by their self definitional needs fulfillment (Bhattacharya Sen, 2003). Identifying with a company that has an attractive perceived identity may result in benefits to customers in terms of self enhancement (Marin et al., 2009). Customers will feel the motivational impulse to attain a psychological attachment to a brandwhen they perceive the brand as attractive and as partially fulfilling one or more of their fundamental self definitional needs (CurrГЎs PГ©rez et al., 2009). Customer experience is generated from customer value and is a customer s perception based on interactions through either direct use or distance appreciation of products (Hansen Christensen, 2003). Holbrook s (2002) stated that there are three values measuring user experience: usability, social value and usage pleasure. Usability can be defined through efficiency, learnability, memorability, and represents a broader construct integrating perceived ease of use and perceived usefulness. Social value accrues to the user because of possessing a particular product. The concepts addressed by the students including market structures, government intervention, elasticity, and scarcity, that all hold value in everyday life and an understanding of their importance can contribute significant benefits to the power of the consumer within the market. As a consumer, knowledge of the various market structures allows for the understanding of the motivations and decisions made by certain firms, and can assist in the making of calculated purchases. For instance, the student in the video hypothesized that gas prices were rising because multiple gas firms within an oligopoly were colluding and artificially raising prices. With this information, one can choose to take their purchase to another firm who does not appear to be colluding and purchase a substitute good for a cheaper price. If enough consumers are aware of the strategies utilized by firms within markets structures such as monopolies and oligopolies, action can be taken in order to prevent costs of goods from reaching levels that only benefit producers. The power that each consumer s purchase holds is often underestimated, and if used wisely, can help to create a market that fosters innovation and rewards firms with fair prices. The next major topic the video focused upon was elasticity. Elasticity is a measure of how sensitive producers and consumers to changes in price of a good or a service. If a good /service is elastic, willingness to purchase changes significantly with a small change in price. Conversely, if a good/service is inelastic, the market does not react very much in response to a change in price. Robin Williams hung himself on August 24, 2014, less than two centuries after Vincent van Gogh. We walk aimlessly and do not allow those who have more experience and who are wiser than ourselves to give us the advice that we need to achieve the success level that we desire for ourselves. Stephen Covey, who was born October 24, 1932 and died July 16, 2012, was a man who not only believed, but also infiltrated what he believed in his own personal life and those amongst him.. • 32. Sartre s Conception Of Human Consciousness A question that continues to puzzle scholars (and Honors students, alike) is that of what defines human consciousness. It would be simple to say that it is defined by one s awareness of itself and of its surroundings. What makes the question so difficult to answer, though, is that consciousness is much more than an acute awareness; it is the process of becoming aware, finding the purpose of our consciousness, and building morals and intelligence from that awareness that entangles those who search for answers in a web of utter confusion. In beginning my search for the understanding of consciousness, I chose to look into the thoughts and beliefs of Karl Marx and Jean Paul Sartre. Marx and Sartre are similar in their philosophyin that... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Starting with Sartre s existentialist point of view, consciousness is defined as being for itself. When we are for itself, we recognize our consciousness, but also understand that we are incomplete (SparkNotes Editors, 2005). This notion of being for itself is what makes clear Sartre s belief that existence proceeds essence; we aren t born with innate traits, but rather, we create our consciousness. We are free to choose how we will interpret our surroundings, what we will believe, and what type of personality we wish to have in accordance to those beliefs and interpretations. Sartre further explains that this freedom comes with heavy responsibility. Once we make a choice, we cannot make excuses for ourselves or put the blame on someone or something else if the choice turns sour or ends up being faulty; when we accept the freedom, we accept the full responsibility, too. If we fail to take up this responsibility and live dishonestly about inevitabilities, such as death, or possibilities, we are living in bad faith , as Sartre says. On the other hand, to live in good faith is to understand and acknowledge that control of the outside world is not in our hands, yet to still take the responsibility and freedom of choices that we have over ourselves. Living nobly in good faith may be what is troubling about existentialism to some people, especially those who are religious. I believe that Sartre feels that humans are innately good and have the ... However, it appears that it has been a family rivalry that sets the political climate more than parties or ideology. The battle between the Marcos Family and the Aquino Family has become epic. In spite of the fiscal irresponsibility of both Ferdinand and Imelda, it was probably the assassination of Benigno S. Aquino Jr., who was the opposition leader and an outspoken critic of Mr. Marcos, which led to the downfall of Ferdinand (Manlupig, 2011). When Corazon Aquino died in 2009, there was an emotional appeal for her son, Benigno Aquino III, to run for the Presidency. With a promise to curb the corrupt political culture and decrease poverty, he became president in 2010 (Manlupig, 2011). The Athenians wipe out much of the Melian population and takes control of the island. While a necessarily bleak outlook, Thucydides argues that weak states must submit to strong states. This argument is persuasive in the context of this war and many other conflicts throughout history, but in the past few decades, a combination of factors has diluted the ability of powerful states to dictate the terms for weaker states. The globalization of international trade through the WTO and free trade agreements has largely nullified America s power advantage and disproves the ability of balance of power politics to explain the international system. America currently has numerous, significant trade deficits with countries such as Mexico and China. While it can be argued that free trade helps the American consumer, it is undeniable that these deficits diminish the power that each country holds. In the case of Mexico, a much weaker power, the United States loses jobs and manufacturing to that country because of NAFTA and the WTO. The increase can be attributed to humans and their use of large scale manufacturing that began with the Industrial Revolution when manual labor was starting to be replaced by machinery (68). Hansberry used this private scenery to enhance the many feelings the Youngers, and other African Americans, fought to conquer and to embrace in the name of happiness. As with families of any ethnic group, the Youngers ultimate goal was to be... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Hansberry, not only, played on the condition of the apartment; she used the size as well. The condition alone portrayed the despair and oppression the Youngers felt, but Hansberry wanted to make their struggle to suppress depression undeniable. She did this by placing the family of five, soon to be six, in a two bedroom apartment with no bathroom. This small, cramped apartment also symbolized the pressures from society to divvy up the limited resources partitioned for African Americans. By setting the scene this way, Hansberry also was able to set the mood. The feeling of tension and need for the characters to fight for their fair share is apparent in the opening act, as Ruth rushes Travis into the bathroom before the neighbors. These feelings serve as a foundation for the problems in act three between brother and sister, Ruth s motive to have an abortion, and represent an explanation to the need so many African Americans felt to compete against each other. Hansberry characterized the lack of resources, a common theme here, not only in the lack of space, but also in the lack of food, money, and sunlight. As conflict intensified in the small space, Mama realized that her be loved family was falling apart and only the reality of owning a home could bring unity. To overcome the mountains of negative emotions the Youngers turn to their beckons of hope. The three main symbolic items Hansberry used were Mama s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 53. The Causes Of The Khmer Rouge The Khmer Rouge carried out one of the most horrific genocides in the twentieth century. The nation of Cambodia was in a near decade civil war between the Communist (Khmer Rouge) and the monarchy and then the Khmer Republic. The Khmer Rouge won the civil war and controlled all of Cambodia from 1975 to 1979. During this time, they committed horrific crimes against their own people. This genocidal regime was one of the worst events in the later years of the 1900s, and it is not well talked about in schools. The Khmer Rougemovement started back in the 1940s when Cambodiawas fighting for freedom from the French government. Over the years, the Northern Vietnamese influenced much of the group s practices and beliefs. They gained so much members during the Lon Nol era because many Cambodian people lost family from the American bombings (whom Lon Nol was allied with). Through fear and threats, the Khmer Rouge scared the people into moving into the countryside. They abolished all things that have to do with capitalism. They brainwashed people into starving the population, torturing the accused , and murdering any who oppose the Khmer Rouge way of life and leadership. This led to widespread poverty of Cambodia, and the people learned to love and respect everyone because of the hate shown to them during this horrific event. Many, til this day, still do not share their stories of what happened during this time because they are scared to be reminded of what was committed against them. That is why the country is still corrupt today because the two decade old prime minister Hun Senwas an ex Khmer Rouge Soldier. The Khmer Rouge group was created in the 1940s, but it was during the Vietnam War that the KR gained more power and became more prominent. The Khmer Rouge is an off shot from the North Vietnamese government and essentially was funded by their government. The Vietnamese helped to make the KR a real political party in the Cambodian political system. Without their help, they could not afford to provide a whole army guns, military vehicles, and other military resources. It was in 68 when the group launched a full scale national uprising. They wanted to make a unrealistic fair society where there was no ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 54. Male Aged Four Years ( 48 Months ) Introduction The subject of this case study is a male aged four years (48 months). The setting is a voluntary aided faith nursery which follows a religious syllabus. It has children from a specific Islamic background. Within the nursery each child is assigned a key worker, who works with the child on a one to one basis and performs in partnership with parents or/carers to assist their child s learning and development. Hence, child A s skills are developing through the process of scaffolding, as he will retain this information. Intellectual There was a specific observation of mention when Child A was in the computer corner playing a water themed counting game. When estimating the number of objects on the screen, he used his fingers to count the sea animals, 1, 2,3,4,5, 6 animals and looked at me for confirmation asking, is it 6? . This shows that Child A is developing within the usual ranges of development, Estimates how many objects they can see and checks by counting them , (Development Matters in the EYFS, 2012, p.34). Piaget believes children learn best by doing and that they must be additionally active in their own understanding. He also believes that knowledge must be assembled and reassembled by the child. Subsequently Child A, within the stages of schema, would experience a new notion of dealing with numbers. The existing schema does not work as child A has no prior knowledge on counting sea animals. Thus disequilibrium arises until Child A is able to assimilate and accommodate the contemporary knowledge and attain equilibrium. Hence, Child A uses his fingers to count aloud and signify each finger with a specific number. For future recommendation, I would have Child A complete sums where he can count the objects in two ... • 55. Memory of a Young Boy in The poem My Papa’s Waltz by... My Papa s Waltz The poem My Papa s Waltz by Theodore Roethke presents a memory from a young boy waltzing with his father. The waltz is a metaphor that represents the relationship the boy has with his father. Although the poem may seem like a happy and sweet story of a father and son dancing in the kitchen there are also some darker underlying tones. The speaker, who is the young boy, is directing theses words towards his father, but does not actually express them directly to the father, instead the speaker is just reflecting upon them in his head. In the first stanza of the first line the reader finds out the father has been drinking, a lot, so much that his son also feels dazed from the alcohol on the fathers breath. Also the boy, hung on like death (3) this is a simile, meaning that he is hanging on tightly even though it may be hard. In the same line the speaker uses the word death this makes the poem feel a little somber and not very happy. At the end of the stanza in line four we find out that the boy was having difficulties waltzing with the father, the dancing they were doing was awkward for the young boy because the father was inebriated and loose from the drinking. Since the waltzrepresents the relationship they hold, this could very likely mean that it is not easy to be with his father every so often. Dancing with the father was not a quiet and graceful moment, but the young boy seems to accept it. In the second stanza we find out they are doing more ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 56. Goldilocks Affirmative Defense Goldilocks has admitted to having committed the act of murder and burglary, however, she asserts affirmative defenses that would exonerate her actions from criminal liability. Affirmative dense brings to light danger for the defense because once admitting the act the defendants have the burden to, start matters off by putting in some evidence in support of their justification or excuse defenses (Samaha, 2011). In addition, the burden of production will shift to the defense and it is now the prosecution s job to cause doubt upon the defense s case. In Goldilocks case of a justification defense this would involve her use of self defense and its necessity being that under the circumstances, it was the right thing to do (Samaha, 2011). Furthermore,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For an attack to be considered self defense it must apply to four requirements. The first is unprovoked attacks in which the defender has to have not started or provoked the attack. In Goldilocks case this is held because she was attempting to leave when Prince Charming saw and forcibly locked her inside. The second requirement is necessity which is, also known as the choice of evils, reflects popular moral intuitions and common sense: sometimes, breaking the rules is the right indeed, the only thing to do in order to avoid a greater evil (Bergelson, 2012). In Goldilocks case this choice of evils was a fact in both acts the burglary where she was given a choice to either starve to death or break into a home so she can eat. The other instance was the Prince Charming reaching for his walking stick that he uses to constantly physically abuse her and the choice to defend herself. The third element of self defense is proportionality which is the ability of a defender to use deadly force if no deadly force is not enough to repel the oncoming attack with no excessive force (Samaha, 2011). In Goldilocks case Prince Charming is not only bigger and stronger than her she was in no state where she could run away or hide she had no choice. The last requirement is reasonable belief which is the belief that it was necessary to use deadly force to repel the imminent deadly attack (Samaha, 2011). In Goldilocks case she was in a position where she was going to have to fight for her life and the only way should would have made it out alive was by using the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
