Ernest Shackleton Quotes
Polar Perseverance By Felix Rowe Sir Winston Churchill once said, If you re going through hell, keep
going. Through near impossible circumstances, Shackleton pushed his limits and managed to bring
himself and all of his 28 men through hell. English explorer, Sir Ernest Shackleton or as his crew
called him, The Boss always had a calling from Antarctica. On his first expedition, Ernest and the
crew came closer to the South Pole than anyone in history before. With all his gained knowledge from
the previous expedition, he set off with his crew in order to be the first person to reach the South Pole.
He didn t succeed. Shackleton had come 180.6km from reaching his goal, however due to the health
of his crew he had to retreat back to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He would always take the most strategic route in accomplishing his goal. Shackleton was a very
intellectual man. This was crucial for the survival of his men, because they needed a figurehead to rely
on, someone they knew was going to get them out of there alive. For my first point, Shackleton was
very intellectual in the way that he had held his men s personal belongings. Shackleton knew that if
they were to go on the on land expedition, his men couldn t bring all of their belongings, so he set a
2lb weight limit on all of his staff. Ernest also knew that the only chance they had of making it out
alive was to launch the three boats and try to make way for Elephant Island. He also knew that the
boats weighed 700lbs each, and that all their personal belongings would be going in those. For the
men to carry the boats plus all the personal belongings of his men, it would have been unbearable.
Shackleton also knew that belongings would have no use to he, or his men for the trip. Gold coins
would be useless if he was to get out of the Antarctic alive. Even items of sentimental value would be
thrown away, but it was the only way for the men to get out alive. Secondly, Shackleton ordered the
banjo be brought along the on land trip. At first this may have seemed like a stupid idea, it would just
be more weight to carry along. The two pound rule was created for a reason. However, Shackleton
knew that the men would need something

Essay on English-Only Movement
An Argumentation on the Bilingual education and English only Movement
The question of whether the U.S should have an official language and whether bilingual language
education can be accepted is highly controversial. Hispanic concentrated areas like California, the
Southwest and Florida are especially troubled by the proposed English only movements. People stands
for English only movement claims that linguistic divisions is harmful to political unity, while single
official language can provide the chance to the narrow down the distances between the rich and the
poor. On the other hand, disbelievers of English only movements are worrying about the violation of
civil liberties which are people s rights stated in the Constitution ... Show more content on

In fact, according to M.E Mujica in his essay Why the U.S. Needs an Official Language, the U.S
government makes it easy for immigrants to live and work in their own native languages through
bilingual education, multilingual ballots and driver s license exams, and translators in schools and
hospitals who are paid by the government. Mujica further argues that providing most essential services
to immigrants in their native languages is expensive for American taxpayers and also keeps
immigrants linguistically isolated.
Miami, California have long history of bilingual education. Maurice Ferre, former mayor of Miami,
believes that Spanish is the main form of communication in his city. Miami government s website has
both English and Spanish version. Even the mayor s after work voice call was answered by greetings
in Spanish. However, multilingual government is not cheap, when it comes to cost taxpayers billions
of dollars every year. Te federal government s research showed that English only teaching is more
effective than multi lingual teaching.
Examples of failed multi lingual socities are witnessed around the world. India, a country of more than
ten official languages, is the worst example of chaotic society and bureaucracy nightmare, regardless
English is still used extensively as an official language in India. Without a single recognized common
language, the government

What Is The Stress Strain Curves Of The Pure SR And SR...
The stress strain curves of the pure SR and SR composites are presented in Figure 3(a), indicating that
the stresses at 100% strain and 300% strain increase with increasing content of BT particles. The main
reason for the increased stress at definite elongation is the reinforcing effect of the inorganic particles
[38]. In addition, the elongation at break of the SR composites decreased after adding BT particles,
attributed to the BT particles acting as physical links, thus limiting the flexibility of macromolecular
silicone. Because of increasing interfacial areas between the BT particles and SR matrix, the number
of physical links increased significantly in the system, decreasing the elongation at break of the SR
composites with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Two factors can be used to explain this phenomenon. The first one is the BT particles interact strongly
with the macromolecular SR, thus restricting the mobility of the molecular chains. The second one is
the polymer chain entanglement limits the movement of polymer chains [38]. The interface
polarization will increase the dielectric constant as well as the dielectric loss of the composites. As
shown in Figure 4(b), the dielectric loss tangent of the BT/SR composites is larger than that of the
pure SR at low frequency. In addition, the dielectric loss displays a sharp decrease at a low frequency
(lower than 1 kHz), caused by the DC leakage current. However, the electrode polarization can be
excluded as there is no simultaneous decrease in the dielectric constant and dielectric loss with
increasing frequency [42]. However, because of the weak polarization of the silicone matrix, the
dielectric loss tangent of all the samples is lower than 0.015. The low dielectric loss means just a little
energy dissipation during actuation, a big advantage for dielectric elastomer.
The electromechanical performance of the SR composites was tested using circular actuators.
Considering the safety and utility, the loaded electric field on the samples was 50 kV/mm. The
actuated strains of the BT/SR composites are shown in Figure 5(a). With increasing electric field, the
actuated strain of the samples increases significantly, because it is proportional to the square

The Scalpel And The Silver Bear Summary
In the novel The Scalpel and The Silver Bear, Alvord is Native American and specifically has roots
from the Navajo tribe. At the beginning of the novel she is conflicted by coming from a biracial family
where her mother is white and her father is Navajo. This conflict follows her all of the way to college
in choosing an Ivy League school. She later decides on a school known as Dartmouth because of the
fact that they had substantial amount of Native Americans than any other Ivy League school. Alvord
graduated from Dartmouth with a psychology and sociology degree but still had aspirations to become
a doctor. She returns to school at Stanford to study medicine, after fulfilling her degree she made her
way back to New Mexico near Gallup.
Alvord Practiced at Gallup Indian Medical Center where she stood out from her peers. She realized
that all of her peers are Anglos and she was the only Native American. Although she is Native
American she is not seen as such from her Native American Patients because of her modern medical
practices. Alvord felt conflicted for her Native American background by practicing western medicine.
She realizes that trust is the most difficult aspect when having Native American patients. Since the
doctors are mostly Anglos it is difficult to communicate to the Navajo patients. Alvord realized this
conflict and bridged the patient physician gap by speaking Navajo and touching the patients. Since
Navajo s believe in touching, singing and feeling as a major

Iphigenia Roles
Greek culture has made its own mark on our society in the United States. Before women s suffrage,
U.S. women had the same roles as Greek women did. The main part of this play talks about the fight
for who gets Helen, and the role that Iphigenia has in this task. A lot of Greek myths and plays
reference sacrifices of a daughter to a god, in order to help a group of people or make the god happy.
The main people of this story: Helen and Menelaus, and Iphigenia, who all have their specific roles in
this play, and roles in their societies. Helen, being the one who is fought over, Iphigenia, who is being
sacrificed, Menelaus, who is the king of sparta, but would lose that position without Helen, and
Agamemnon, the father that sacrifices his daughter to Artemis. All of these example show what is
expected of them in their positions, and their gender in their society. Helen of Troy isn t really a main
character in this play, but her role pretty much creates the entire body of this play. Her beauty, and the
role she had in Sparta, is why the Trojan war was fought. Clytemnestra says to Agamemnon, And if

Her role is to be sacrificed to Artemis so that Agamemnon and his soldiers can make it safely to Troy

willingly as a sacrifice for my country, for all of Greece (Euripides, Iphigenia in Aulis lines 2082
2085). Iphigenia s role as daughter in this play is for her to sacrifice herself because of the ignorance
of her father. George says, Iphigenia s acceptance of the sacrifice is naive (George, 2012, pg. 1). This
is a good way to put it, since she doesn t realize that her father is sacrificing her for himself for the

Suspense In Way Up To Heaven
In the stories Live to Tell , Interlopers , and Way Up to Heaven the shared literary element is suspense
which gets developed through imagery. Each of these stories is unique in their own way. However
they all have one thing in common, suspense. Through settings and characters the authors develop a
great sense of tension and suspense which keeps the reader interested.
Suspense plays in important role in Live to Tell because it builds the mood and helps dramatize the
story to get the point across. This story has wonderful imagery that helps with adding more effect to
the suspense of the story. Then the sound I don t want to hear the whap whap of his bare feet slapping

Madame Bovary Characteristics
Flaubert s Madame Bovary concludes with Monsieur Homais ecstatic because of his triumph in
receiving the medal of the Legion of Honor. Homais, the town pharmacist in Yonville, spends most of
his time adulating people in authority and attempting to publicize his good deeds to reach his success
at the end novel. Moreover, Homais s immoral and self serving actions clearly display that he is
certainly the last character in Madame Bovary that deserves to be encompassed in glory when the
story has finished. Although it originally seems that Homais is an insignificant character who will
chatter incessantly to anyone with social status, he ends up serving as one of the chief players who
unfolds Flaubert s themes. Flaubert, through her description of the apothecary, characterizes the age of
modernity to be synonymous with the new bourgeoisie class that has emerged in France. The faith in
scientific or technological development, the increasing secularism of the era, and the prioritization of
the individual were all themes of the time period. Flaubert uses the town pharmacist to portray the
issues she noticed in 19th century France. Homais arises as an ironic depiction of the modern man
through his interaction with Hippolyte and the beggar, his attempts to promote his status through self
interested endeavors and flattering those with power, and his conversations with the priest of Yonville.
As the apothecary in town, Homais desires to educate himself on any new medicines or medical

shadow; you re only a spot of brightness. You can t know what these moments mean to me! , it shows
how Roxane is the moon to Cyrano. When Cyrano says, You see the blackness of a long cloak; I see
the whiteness of a summer dress. , he means that the way she sees herself and the way Cyrano sees her
is different, he sees her as the whiteness of a summer dress , or he sees her to be extremely beautiful.
In addition, he says that he is a shadow and that she is only a spot of brightness meaning that the
reason for Cyrano s existence is solely for Roxane.

But What Do You Mean By Deborah Tannen Summary
Deborah Tannen and William Lutz both discuss the difficulty of communicating. Their point of views
may be different, but their conclusion is the same. Men and women have difficulties of
communicating. Not because the two genders want to be complicated but simply because we don t
realize how or what we re doing when it s happening.
Talking, it is a form of communication that we as people do because it is our human nature to. AS
humans conversation is a ritual (327), we speak without thinking of other meanings that our words
could mean. We don t think about appropriation, the way others may think, or take other feelings into
account. WE as humans speak to interact because as mentioned earlier Conversation is a ritual (327).
When it comes to talking there is no right way, the way society communicates it can mislead, distort,
inflate, circumvent, obfuscate one another.
In the first excerpt Deborah Tannen wrote But What Do You Mean? , she breaks down and classifies
the conversational areas where men and women have the most difficulties communication. Tannen s
excerpt is written from a personal point of view, it is written within her daily workplace and based off
actions or events she encounters between men and women. Tannen argues that men tend to be more
confrontational when communication and women happen to approach confrontation in a subtle way.
Men are direct and to the point, while women try to negotiate. In the excerpt Tannen breaks her

Plastic Pollution On The Marine Environment
Effects of Plastic Pollution on the Marine Environment Concern over increasing quantities of marine
microplastic pollution has increased substantially in the last decade, becoming a focus for many local
and national governments, intergovernmental organizations, environmental advocacy groups, and the
private sector. In financial terms, conservative estimates place the harm to marine ecosystems at $13
billion annually. While the available literature on microplastic pollution impacts has grown due to this
increased interest, research into the subject is at an early stage relative to other areas of inquiry.
Further, research into the effects and sources of microplastic uptake in marine environments have been
largely dependent on laboratory experimental studies, due the technical difficulties in analyzing
microplastics in the field. This paper sets out to describe the ecological impacts of marine microplastic
pollution as they are currently known: the various types of microplastics and their distinct potentials
for environmental harm; the sources of and vectors for microplastic contamination; known effects on
marine organisms; and concludes with a discussion of legislative/regulatory solutions to date and
potential next steps. Overall, neither the direct nor long term effects of microplastic pollution in the
field are thoroughly understood. The quantity of microplastics in the ocean is set to continue to
increase, largely due to three factors; 1) the large volume of

The Spread of European Imperialism Essay
Throughout the sixteenth, seventeenth, and eighteenth centuries, the world witnessed a global
expansion as well as a compaction of people, cultures, and ideas. The need for goods, as well as the
process of mercantilism to inflate economies, was instrumental in the advancement of seafaring
technologies, the need to spread religion, and the eventual globalization of the slave market. The four
major regions in the world, which were the stepping stones of globalization, are Africa, Southeast Asia
and the Indian Ocean, the Americas, and finally East Asia.
The abundance of resources, especially salt, gold, and slaves in Africa, especially after the fall of the

European presence in Africa also helped the people of Africa to expand.
With the collapse of the Great Silk Road, trade routes through the waters became more necessary.
Muslims and Europeans fought over the Indian Ocean and the several prosperous ports (plus major
cities and villages in Ethiopia) during the fifteenth and sixteenth century. (McKay et al., 2009)
Although Muslims had controlled the Indian Ocean trade for centuries, Portugal s ability to
circumvent the southern tip of Africa led to war and Portugal s eventual defeat of Muslim traders and
their imperialism throughout the Southeast Asian market. Africa s Swahili people and their ivory,
copra and rhinoceros horns and China s age of commerce , which was developing within the
neighboring countries of Vietnam and Burma, multiplied the available goods for Europeans to bring
back home. (McKay et al., 2009) Portugal, as with most European countries, was beginning their
recovery financially after years of war and plague. With the growth of trade and the amount of people
in the Indian Ocean area, religion quickly followed. (McKay et al., 2009) Again, Muslims and
Europeans were in battle. But this time they fought for religious supremacy in numbers. Each faction
quickly moved to convert as many people as possible. Settlements were formed, cities grew, and
customs and culture began mixing in an early version of a melting pot. (McKay et al., 2009)

The Shoelace By Charles Bukowski And Walking In The Blue
Literature is Insanity When it comes to literature, many students have difficulty trying to understand
the main reason the author wrote it. This is very evident in poems. Poems are verbal compositions
designed to convey experiences, ideas, or emotions in a specific and creative way. They are
characterized by the use of the way they are formatted and use literary techniques such as metaphors,
similes, rhyme, and personification. With the many rules and forms that poems can have, a lot of them
are hard to interpret. In this essay, I want to breakdown two poems meaning by comparing their
similar underlying message by the authors similar styles and experiences. The two poems are The
Shoelace by Charles Bukowski and Walking in the Blue by Robert Lowell. The Shoelace and Walking
in the Blue are both poems that deal with the topic of understanding insanity. In Charles Bukowski s
The Shoelace, he discusses the topic in a more typical and conventional view of insanity. While on the
other hand, Robert Lowell focuses on the view of insanity from the view of noticeable and rough
familiarities in his poem Walking in the Blue.
The definition of insanity is the state of being mentally ill and a direct cause of insanity is mainly
stress. Charles Bukowski s poem revives the known feeling of losing it and going into a state of
madness. Bukowski relied on experience, emotion, and imagination in his works. He used his poetry
to show the wickedness of urban life and the oppression in the

Complications Of The Transcontinental Railroad
Do you ever wonder what make our country so great? What events lead up to what we are today? The
United States has many different ups and downs but one has an upside and a downside. I m talking
about the Transcontinental Railroad. The Transcontinental Railroad was the first railway to go across
the country. One of the complications of the railroad was that the government forcefully moved the
Native Americans to reservations. Ways they got natives to go to the reservations was though taking
their land, killing buffalo, and forcefully taking them. To the settlers manifest destiny was more
important than Indian lives. They took Native land to make to make what they thought was more
important(Doc 3). By taking the Natives land they are giving them a chance at owning the land and
citizenship. But many of the Native people didn t have the money to buy the land they live on. Ways
they killed buffalo was the tracks stopped them from migrating, the settlers killed them for sport, and
trains hit them. The Indians kept harassing the train workers to try and get them to stop building the
track so the buffalo can migrate (Doc 2). By killing buffalo the natives would starve and have no
reason to stay there. But not all of the effects of the railroad are bad. Some of the good effects are
people didn t have to go around the continent to go to California. Before they had to go around the tip
of Central America. Another positive is that it gave thousand of immigrants jobs, both Irish and

Essay on Illegal Music Downloading
Ever since the start of illegal music downloading there has been an ongoing debate. As with any
controversy, there are those whose positions stand at one end of the spectrum or the other and also
those who are moderate or nonchalant. Many believe that downloading a song without paying for it is
not only illegal, but also immoral. None the less, people continue to download songs, rationalizing that
the record companies are getting what they deserve after years of overpriced CD s or that the artists
won t really miss the money. Some people are not sure what to make of the situation, sympathizing in
some respects with either side. There are several proposed solutions to this problem, but it has become
obvious that there is not easy or clear ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Companies like Apple, have decided that it is best to get in with the downloading business. However,
an end to the illegal downloading conflict remains to be realized. The RIAA and associated artists
continue to wage war against illegal downloaders while computer savvy audiences persist in sharing
music files online every day. While it is undoubtedly true that downloading music is a crime, it
remains to be proven that it is wrong. Without establishing this principle, most downloader s are likely
to continue the activity. Even with new, inexpensive and available means of downloading files, they
can still be shared for free online. The rift must be repaired between music lovers who feel that they
have been taken advantage of in the past and recording companies and artists who worry about their
future livelihood. I believe that at the heart of this controversy is a drive to bring music production
into the twenty first century. Making CD s more accessible, economical and usable benefits all
everyone except maybe the CD producers, in the end. Listeners can access music when, where and
how they want to for less money, as the have grown accustomed to doing. Musicians cut out the
middleman, allowing them to keep more of the profit. This is undoubtedly the future of the industry.
While companies are searching for ways to hold on to 90 percent of the profit and to continue to
combat illegal downloading, others are negotiating new terrain

Analysis and Historical Context from Second Treatise of...
COMMENTARY OF SECOND TREATISE OF CIVIL GOVERNMENT : The previous fragment we

anonymously in 1689. It is a work of political philosophy, in which Locke talks about civil society,
natural rights and separation of powers. Locke was one of the first empirical philosophers and he
believed that the human being was born with no knowledge, and that experience and observation were
the base of all human wisdom. In the text, Locke talks about how powers should be separated and not
concentrated in the same person (the King) because he would be tempted, and in fact it was

The Restoration of 1660, by restoring crown, church and lords, put Englishmen back once more under
a system of government proven unworkable. With a king on the throne who still wanted to govern, and
a group of dissatisfied men in parliament who wanted his government to be controlled by them,
conflict was hard to avoid. But the civilian revolution did not happen until after Charles II s death in
1685. King Charles was succeeded by his brother James, who became James II of England and VII of
Scotland. James is best known for his belief in absolute monarchy and his attempts to create religious
liberty for his subjects against the wishes of the English Parliament. Increasingly members of Britain s
political and religious elite opposed him as too pro French, too pro Catholic, and too much of an
absolute monarch. When he produced a Catholic heir, the tension exploded and leading nobles called
on William III of Orange (his son in law and nephew) to land an invasion army from the Netherlands.
James fled England (and thus abdicated) in the Glorious Revolution of 1688. He was replaced by
William of Orange who became king as William III, ruling jointly with his wife (James s daughter)
Mary II. Thus William and Mary, both Protestants, became joint rulers in 1689. Parliament issued the
Bill of Rights, which stipulated the rights and obligations of the monarch. William and Mary reigned
jointly till 1694 when Mary died. Then, William continued to reign alone. He died

Research Paper On Jovian Moon
Jovian Moons by Dawn Korrell
April 25, 2016
The moon Dione, was discovered in 1684 by Giovanni Cassini. It is the fourth largest moon to orbit
the planet Saturn and has a diameter of 1123 kilometers. The density of Dione is 1.48 times as dense
as water with a core made of rock and ice. Dione has a similar distance from Saturn as our moon has
to Earth, 377,400 kilometers. Like our moon, one side of it always faces its parent planet. It takes 2.7
days for Dione to orbit Saturn. The surface of Dione is covered in craters, heavier in some places, with
the largest being 62 miles wide. It is believed that a recent impact has turned or spun the moon 180
degrees because its heaviest cratered area is on the trailing side instead of its leading

Ventilator Associated Pneumonia in the Icu
Ventilator associated pneumonia (VAP) is a nosocomial infection occurring in hospitalized patients
who are mechanically ventilated. These infections are common in ICU settings, difficult to diagnose
early, and unfortunately have a high rate of mortality and morbidity. VAP accounts for almost half of
infections in ICU settings, up to 28% of mechanically ventilated patients will develop VAP and of
these patients the mortality rate is between 20% and 70% (Craven Steger, 1998). A patient that
develops VAP while mechanically ventilated adds days to his recovery as well as thousands of dollars
to the care costs. Numerous studies have been conducted across the county in an effort to understand
VAP, however very few of those studies focus on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The research points to the idea that because many nurses are not responsible for the ventilator circuit;
they rely on the respiratory therapist to manage the ventilator, they may be less informed than if they
had more control and training in the interventions necessary to prevent VAP. The research suggests
more training and education for nurses who work with ventilated patients. Research done at the
University of Toledo College of Medicine has shown a decrease in the incidence of VAP in its ten bed
surgical ICU by implementing a FASTHUG protocol. Papadimos, et al, (2008) explained the
interventions that the college used as a tool to educate the critical care team. FASTHUG stands for
daily evaluation of feeding, analgesia, sedation, thromboembolic prevention, head of bed elevation,
ulcer prophylaxis, and glucose control in critically ill intubated patients. The FASTHUG protocol was
emphasized at morning and afternoon rounds and after a 2 year research period the incidence of VAP
declined to 7.3 VAPs/1000 ventilator days down from a historical rate of 19.3 VAPs/1000 ventilator
days. Of note, in 2007 the surgical ICU that implemented this program actually had no incidence of
VAP from January to May. The research suggests that the use of bundled care processes for ventilated
patients may reduce the rate of VAP. The nurse s knowledge of the use of the ventilator bundle is
crucial to

The Discovery Of Polio Vaccine Essay
In the early 1900s, scientists and medical personnel did not have an answer to poliomyelitis, otherwise
known as polio. However, a breakthrough was reached when Jonas Salk managed to developed the
first vaccine, which he brought to the public in 1955 after testing the drug on himself, family, and
others. Salk developed a killed virus vaccine through tissue culture methods discovered by the
scientist John Enders. Unfortunately, Salk s vaccine was not the cure that the scientific community,
and the world, had hoped for, as the results of the vaccine took a critical turn for the worse shortly
after release. According to Naomi Rogers, Cutter Laboratories, one of the original mass producers of
Salk s polio vaccine, released many faulty vaccines which resulted in greatly diminishing Salk s
reputation:
Both Salk s and the Foundation s reputations were briefly tarnished by what became termed the Cutter
incident. Within fifteen days of Francis s April 1955 report, the Foundation s worst fears seemed to be
realized when cases of paralysis were reported among children who had received the vaccine. After
federal officials from the Communicable Disease Center established that these cases were the result of
vaccination from a batch prepared by Cutter Laboratories of Berkeley, California, Surgeon General
Leonard Scheele halted the vaccination program for a week. (Rogers 180)
The fears brought upon by the Cutter incident led to the rise of alternative research, in particular that

Mineracorticoid receptor antagonists (MRA)
Reduced cardiac output in CHF patients via activation of renin angiotensin system may lead to
circulating aldosterone levels that are nearly 20 times above normal. The pathophysiological effects of
raised aldosterone levels in these patients are diverse and include sodium and water retention,
increased loss of K+ and Mg2+, myocardial and vascular fibrosis, reduced uptake of norepinephrine in
the myocardium, baroreceptor dysfunction and alterations in sodium channel expression in cardiac
myocytes leading to increased excitability and contractility. Angiotensin II is not the sole stimulus for
aldosterone secretion and its level have been shown to return to pretreatment values upon chronic

Spironolactone is a nonselective aldosterone receptor antagonist marketed since the 1960s and bears
structural similarity to progesterone resulting in sex steroid receptor cross reactivity. This is
responsible for anti androgen and anti progesterone adverse effects seen in treated individuals.
Canrenone, marketed as principle active metabolite of spironolactone, is devoid of significant first
pass metabolism and has a substantially longer t ½ as compared to the parent molecule (16.5 hours vs
1.4 hours). It has also been reported to have a lower incidence of antiandrogenic adverse reactions
despite being a non selective MRA. Eplerenone, a spironolactone derivative, in contrast is a selective
aldosterone receptor antagonist with lower affinity for the progesterone and androgen receptors and
consequently is devoid of related adverse effects. Eplerenone is primarily metabolized in the liver by
cytochrome P450 (CYP3A4 isoenzyme) and is therefore subject to interactions with CYP3A4
inhibitors as well as inducers. It has a plasma half life of 4 6 hours, and steady state levels are usually
achieved 48 hours after treatment initiation.
Clinical Use:
Aldosterone receptor antagonists are currently recommended in NYHA class II IV CHF patients with
left ventricular ejection fraction ≤35%. To be considered for therapy with these agents, patients with
NYHA class II heart failure should have a previous history of cardiovascular related hospital
admission or

The Validity of Capital Asset Pricing Model and Factors of Arbitrage Pricing Theory in Saudi Stock
Exchange ABSTRACT The main purpose of this study is to investigate the ability of two alternative
models in finance, Capital Asset Pricing Model (CAPM) and Arbitrage Pricing Theory (APT), to
explain the excess return of a portfolio of stocks in Saudi Stock Exchange (TADAWUL). The
regression analyses were conducted on the portfolio, which consists of 54 listed and actively traded

Initiated by the economist Stephen Ross in 1976, the APT is a general theory of asset pricing and has
become very important and influential in stock pricing. The APT claims that the expected return of a
financial asset can be modeled as a linear function of various macro economic factors or theoretical
market indices, where sensitivity to changes in each factor is represented by a factor specific beta
coefficient. The model derived rate of return will then be used to price the asset correctly. In other
words, the asset price should equal the expected end of period price discounted at the rate implied by
model. If the price diverges, arbitrage should bring it back into line. Risky asset returns are said to
follow a factor structure if they can be expressed as: rj = E (rj) + bj1F1 + bj2F2 + ......+ bjnFn + (j
where (rj) is the asset s return, E(rj) is the jth asset s expected return, (bjn) is the sensitivity of the jth
asset to factor n, also called factor loading, (Fn) is a systematic factor (assumed to have mean zero),
and ((j) is the risky asset s idiosyncratic random shock with mean zero. The APT affirms that if asset
returns follow a factor structure then the following relation exists between expected returns and the
factor sensitivities: E (rj) = rf + bj1RP1 + bj2RP2

Coral Island Vs Lord Of The Flies
Reality of Human Nature In Lord of the Flies, William Golding shows a world of increasing violence
through the behavior of the characters, the setting of the novel, and the events occurring throughout
the story. Golding s Lord of the Flies was inspired by R.M. Ballantyne s Coral Island. Both works
involve boys stranded on a deserted island. Ballantyne s Coral Island portrays these young boys as
content, rational young boys, which is somewhat unrealistic. Golding wanted to create a more lifelike
version of events that might occur if several young boys were stranded on a deserted island. Golding
creates vivid scenes explaining the savage nature of humans, and just how animalistic they can
become. Increasingly violent behavior is displayed through four main characters, Jack, Ralph, Simon,

Figurative Language In Invictus By William Earnest Henley
The poem Invictus by William Earnest Henley is a poem writen so that the audience could easily
relate. This poem was written in the late 1800 s, but the meaning of this poem was so true back then
and even is up to this day. Its giing hope that no matter how hard a trial becomes it can be overcome.
It is a part of life, trials are given to make us stronger. Wheher we rise to the occasion or cower down
is all a test to see our true potential. People who really understand this poem take the meaning to heart.
This is why it is one of the most well known poems. Henley doesnt just come right out and say it he
uses many diferent figures of speech to get his mesage across to the readers. In Invictus he uses three
main elements of speech. He uses imagery, personifiation, and metaphors. Imagery is a very
desciptive form of figurative language to help the reader create a mental picture. The reason why
imagery is used in Invictus is to provide the reader a way to undersand the poem and it provides them
an oportunity to understand the author s true feelings. He uses very creative words to create a picture
of the pain and misery that he feels in the begining. In the end of the poem he lets the reader ... Show

Hospital Acquired Pneumonia Research Paper
Ventilator associated pneumonia is defined as pneumonia arising 48 hours or more after endotracheal

that the infiltrate is of an infectious origin, which include the new onset of fever, purulent sputum,
leukocytosis, and decline in oxygenation. Together with hospital acquired pneumonia (HAP) are the
most common hospital acquired infections. In a prevalence study in USA, they accounted for 22% of

Host factors, the virulence of bacteria, and most importantly the presence of an endotracheal tube
determine the development of VAP. The tube is detrimental not only because it provides the conduit
for bacteria, but also because it abolishes the cough reflex.
Bacteria get access to the lungs via microaspiration and through the biofilm that is formed in the inner
surface of the endotracheal tube or leakage of secretions around the cuff. Spread from an adjacent site
of infection or via the blood represent rare causes of VAP. Pathogenic bacteria usually replace
endogenous flora and colonize the nasopharynx, the oropharynx, the sinuses and the stomach
subsequently collecting inside and around the endotracheal tube. Positive pressure ventilation also
contributes to VAP development by thrusting bacteria into the airways. Antibiotic exposure, severity
of underlying disease and previous surgery have been implicated as host factors [5,8].
Various strategies have been applied for the prevention of VAP, each with different levels of evidence.
Preventive measures against VAP development can be divided into five distinct groups:

What Is The Similarities Between The Lamb And The Tyger
The Lamb and The Tyger William Blake, a prominent poet in the late 1800s, wrote some of the most
meaningful pieces that are still looked at today by many. Poems are unique because they must arrive
to the point while also compacting all of the necessary literary devices needed for a concise message.
William Blake does just this especially in his contrasting poems The Lamb and The Tyger. The poems
The Tyger and The Lamb along with their literary devices coexist in order to create romanticism and
to convey William Blake s important contrasting messages of innocence and power. In the poem The
Lamb, the principal theme is innocence. The picture in the poem displays a young naked boy speaking
to a lamb. Both the lamb and the child represent innocence ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

It is documented that Blake had raw talent in coloring and writing. Not only did he show such rare
potential at a young age, he also claimed to have several supernatural visions. Almost every poem he
has written involves a higher being perhaps because of his miraculous visions that he has experienced.
His most famous poems contrast each other in that they talk about completely different things. Blake s
songs of innocence go in depth in describing our existence and how nature is more related to ourselves
than we think. William Blake s other poems deal with a different perspective that involves the loss of
innocence and power. Blake wrote these contrasting poems in order to teach readers and scholars the
important relationships they have with each other. The Tyger for instance is a poem that deals with
power and corruption. The Lamb is a poem that makes us readers ponders the most basic unanswered
human questions. Naturally many view a lamb as weak, and I think that the author did this in order for
him to tell his message.
The Tyger by many is viewed as a poem that deals with God s other characteristics. God is viewed as
merciful in the Lamb, however, in the Tyger, God is viewed more along the lines of the immense
power he possesses. The Tyger naturally is a creature of power because of the strength it

Gender Roles In Persepolis
Women are often frowned upon in many societies. Although most do not, some societies make it
possible for women to be equal. When not equal, women are usually forced to do things beyond their
will. When women are free in a society and once the leader dies, who made them free, it will often
turn back to the way it was before that leader, leaving women unequal. Persepolis forced their women
into many things they didn t want to. Muhammad s vision of Islam is depicted different than
Persepolis on topics of gender equality.
After the empowerment of the Islamic Regime, the treatment of women turned tables in Iran. Before
the Regime, Iranian women were much like the average American woman during that time. They were
able to dress in modern clothes, associate with male counterparts, and have a role in society. But most
of this was drastically changed, especially the dress code. Around 1980, the women of Iran were
forced into the wearing of a veil. A veil is a piece of cloth used to cover the hair and part of the face.
Many women were against the veil and took to the streets to protest. After many protests, the women
were still forced to wear the veil. In the graphic novel Persepolis, Marji goes the store and bought
some modern clothes. She decided to wear them out to go buy tapes. In the last frame, Marji is

Crime Scene Investigation Process
Crime Scene Investigation Process
What do you know about crime scene investigations other than what you see on TV? Crime scenes
vary with the amount of physical evidence which is ordinarily expected to be recovered. The only
thing consistent about crimes scenes is their inconsistency. A crime scene investigation can described
as the application of what has become known as Locard Exchange Principle . The Locard Exchange
Principle is mainly a theory that was established by Dr. Edmond Locard . Crime scene investigator
document crime scenes in detail and collect physical evidence. Crime scene investigators include
recorder to record the data, sketch artists to sketch the scene, photographers to take photos of the
crime scene and evidence collectors.
The proper steps of crime scene investigation are: Secure the crime scene, thoroughly examine the
crime scene, photograph the crime scene, bag and tag evidence, construct a detailed search of the
crime scene, analyze and collect data, discharge the crime scene, videotaping, sketching. And in the
process of investigating a crime there are two types of crime scenes you have primary, secondary.
A primary crime scene is where the crime actually occurred. A secondary crime scene is basically a
subsequent crime. What is The Locard Exchange Principle ? The Locard Exchange Principle is a
theory that states once you come into communication with another person, place or thing you are

Cost effectiveness of a new technique for a Common surgical procedure
In this present era of technological revolution, a scientific breakthrough or an advancement is a

Therefore, any new technique has to be cross examined not only for the robust clinical effectiveness as

a. Cohort involved with the disease condition
b. Level at which intervention is proposed like community/hospital
c. Cost effectiveness to the organization
d. Analysis of outcome measures with the potential comparators
e. Defines efficient time period in which effects and cost can be analyzed
f. Identifies the evidence base from which data is collected
g. Highlights social concerns of equality along with maintenance of quality of life outcome measures.
Systematic review of literature
A comprehensive evidence base forms the backbone of a systematic appraisal. Systematic evidence
gathering is done to minimize deficiencies database and quantification of limitations in database is
analyzed with reflection of uncertainty in the results. A meta analysis of all the evidence is done and
critically appraised.

Character Sketch Of Oedipus
Sophocles Oedipus is a standout amongst the most surely understood grievous legends ever. His
bizarre destiny drives him to terrible destruction that leaves both the peruser and the gathering of
people feeling candidly influenced. As indicated by the meaning of the Greek thinker, Aristotle,
Oedipus troublesome story qualifies him as a sad legend. Oedipus is the epitome of Aristotle s
portrayal of a shocking saint through his capacity to safeguard his excellence and intelligence, in spite
of his defects and scrape. The Aristotelian perspective of an unfortunate saint does not uncover the
absence of ethical quality or even the fiendishness of the hero, in view of a blunder of judgment. The
disaster and show so consummately fit the Aristotelian attributes of Oedipus. Thinking about Aristotle
s meaning of a terrible legend, it can be discovered that Oedipus fits the character depiction flawlessly
through different qualities that he shows and the starting point of his appalling fall: There stays then
the man who involves the mean amongst piety and debasement. He isn t additional customary in
uprightness and nobility but then does not fall into terrible fortune as a result of insidiousness and
fiendishness but since of some hamartia of a kind found in men of high notoriety and favorable luck,
for example, Oedipus and Thyestes and acclaimed men of Aristotle s meaning of a disastrous legend
completely fits the character of Oedipus on account of the different attributes he shows

Heavy Metals
Heavy metals such as arsenic (metalloid), mercury, lead, and cadmium have a rich history throughout
the world. From Ancient Rome to the Vietnamese War, heavy metals have been used in many different
ways, sometimes leading people to death or illness. This research essay will go through the history of
the above mentioned metals, how they were used, and how they can affect people. Arsenic Among the
first uses of arsenic in in 19th century was in taxidermy and painting (Cooksey 2012). Soon after, it
was determined that arsenic was poisonous leading to the passing of the Arsenic Act in 1854 which
required a signature for buying arsenic (Cooksey 2012). Despite this people continued to use arsenic
for dyes and taxidermy. Many people grew ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The mercury that was ingested in Japan came in the form of methyl mercury. Methyl mercury can
cross the blood brain barrier and cause ataxia, sensory disturbances, and changes in mental state
(Cooksey 2012). Lead In the past, lead was used in smelting, and it was known that the vapors can be
deadly (Cooksey 2012). In ancient Rome, lead containers were used to hold food and drink and was a
constant source of chronic toxicity for many years (Cooksey 2012). Although people were recognizing
the effects of lead, it wasn t until after 1950 that legislation banned lead in food and drink cans
(Cooksey 2012). Today, lead poisoning is a huge concern in China as the country becomes more
industrialized and the production and use of lead increases (Hou et al. 2013). According to Hou et. al,
lead can affect many organs and destroy functions of the nervous system (2013). A person can
accumulate lead in their body from the environment, and it tends to stay there. This means that
younger children are more vulnerable the longer they are exposed to lead. Children s blood brain
barriers are also not fully developed yet, making them more susceptible to lead poisoning (Hou et al.
2013). It has been observed that lead can impair growth, memory, intelligence, and behavior in these
children (Hou et al. 2013). Hou et al, conducted a study to observe the trend between blood lead levels
and cognitive development of children (2013). They found that blood lead levels had an obvious

The High Cost of Employee Turnover in Business
When accounting for the costs (both real costs, such as time taken to select and recruit a replacement,
and also opportunity costs, such as lost productivity), the cost of employee turnover to for profit
organizations has been estimated to be between 30% (the figure used by the American Management
Association) to upwards of 150% of the employees remuneration package.[4] There are both direct
and indirect costs. Direct costs relate to the leaving costs, replacement costs and transitions costs, and
indirect costs relate to the loss of production, reduced performance levels, unnecessary overtime and
low morale. The true cost of turnover is going to depend on a number of variable including ease or
difficulty in filling the position and the nature of the job itself. In a healthcare context, staff turnover
has been associated with worse patient outcomes.[5] Internal versus external[edit] Like recruitment,
turnover can be classified as internal or external .[6] Internal turnover involves employees leaving
their current positions and taking new positions within the same organization. Both positive (such as
increased morale from the change of task and supervisor) and negative (such as project/relational
disruption, or the Peter Principle) effects of internal turnover exist, and therefore, it may be equally
important to monitor this form of turnover as it is to monitor its external counterpart. Internal turnover
might be moderated and controlled by typical HR mechanisms, such as

Analysis Of Meghan Trainor s All About That Bass
The music industry nowadays is becoming more and more overloaded with songs orientated around,
how to charm a man, what it takes to get a man and of course how compete and outshine another
female for a man. However whilst being initially happy that Meghan Trainor s All About That Bass
became so very popular in receiving praise for encouraging women to celebrate and embrace their
curves; the chart topper become an almost girl power anthem on a positive body image, which in my
opinion is needed and long overdue in times like these. Trainor s effort stands out, taking the top spot
in 27 countries around the world, racking up an impressive 1.6 million views on YouTube. This was
however until I was past the catchy, bubble gum pink tune and addictive baseline and paid closer
attention to the lyrics of Trainor s clever marketing ploy, it s clear to see that All About That Bass is as
far from a feminist anthem as they come and unfortunately altered my interpretation that in fact that
Trainor was feeding young girls a negative perception of what is expected of them and their bodies, as
they are brought up alongside the pressures of today s media driven and highly influenced society. The
lyrics made me upset, annoyed, angry and a little embarrassed all at the same time. While I applaud
Trainor for her efforts in encouraging women to embrace their bodies, I remained to be blind in seeing
the need, or even understand why she mixed these messages with body shaming and

  • 2. Ernest Shackleton Quotes Polar Perseverance By Felix Rowe Sir Winston Churchill once said, If you re going through hell, keep going. Through near impossible circumstances, Shackleton pushed his limits and managed to bring himself and all of his 28 men through hell. English explorer, Sir Ernest Shackleton or as his crew called him, The Boss always had a calling from Antarctica. On his first expedition, Ernest and the crew came closer to the South Pole than anyone in history before. With all his gained knowledge from the previous expedition, he set off with his crew in order to be the first person to reach the South Pole. He didn t succeed. He would always take the most strategic route in accomplishing his goal. Shackleton was a very intellectual man. This was crucial for the survival of his men, because they needed a figurehead to rely on, someone they knew was going to get them out of there alive. For my first point, Shackleton was very intellectual in the way that he had held his men s personal belongings. Shackleton knew that if they were to go on the on land expedition, his men couldn t bring all of their belongings, so he set a 2lb weight limit on all of his staff. Ernest also knew that the only chance they had of making it out alive was to launch the three boats and try to make way for Elephant Island. He also knew that the boats weighed 700lbs each, and that all their personal belongings would be going in those. For the men to carry the boats plus all the personal belongings of his men, it would have been unbearable. Shackleton also knew that belongings would have no use to he, or his men for the trip. Gold coins would be useless if he was to get out of the Antarctic alive. Even items of sentimental value would be thrown away, but it was the only way for the men to get out alive. Secondly, Shackleton ordered the banjo be brought along the on land trip. At first this may have seemed like a stupid idea, it would just be more weight to carry along. The two pound rule was created for a reason. However, Shackleton knew that the men would need something ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Essay on English-Only Movement An Argumentation on the Bilingual education and English only Movement The question of whether the U.S should have an official language and whether bilingual language education can be accepted is highly controversial. Hispanic concentrated areas like California, the Southwest and Florida are especially troubled by the proposed English only movements. People stands for English only movement claims that linguistic divisions is harmful to political unity, while single official language can provide the chance to the narrow down the distances between the rich and the poor. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In fact, according to M.E Mujica in his essay Why the U.S. Needs an Official Language, the U.S government makes it easy for immigrants to live and work in their own native languages through bilingual education, multilingual ballots and driver s license exams, and translators in schools and hospitals who are paid by the government. Mujica further argues that providing most essential services to immigrants in their native languages is expensive for American taxpayers and also keeps immigrants linguistically isolated. Miami, California have long history of bilingual education. Maurice Ferre, former mayor of Miami, believes that Spanish is the main form of communication in his city. Miami government s website has both English and Spanish version. Even the mayor s after work voice call was answered by greetings in Spanish. However, multilingual government is not cheap, when it comes to cost taxpayers billions of dollars every year. Te federal government s research showed that English only teaching is more effective than multi lingual teaching. Examples of failed multi lingual socities are witnessed around the world. India, a country of more than ten official languages, is the worst example of chaotic society and bureaucracy nightmare, regardless English is still used extensively as an official language in India. • 4. What Is The Stress Strain Curves Of The Pure SR And SR... The stress strain curves of the pure SR and SR composites are presented in Figure 3(a), indicating that the stresses at 100% strain and 300% strain increase with increasing content of BT particles. The main reason for the increased stress at definite elongation is the reinforcing effect of the inorganic particles [38]. In addition, the elongation at break of the SR composites decreased after adding BT particles, attributed to the BT particles acting as physical links, thus limiting the flexibility of macromolecular silicone. Because of increasing interfacial areas between the BT particles and SR matrix, the number of physical links increased significantly in the system, decreasing the elongation at break of the SR composites with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Two factors can be used to explain this phenomenon. The first one is the BT particles interact strongly with the macromolecular SR, thus restricting the mobility of the molecular chains. The second one is the polymer chain entanglement limits the movement of polymer chains [38]. The interface polarization will increase the dielectric constant as well as the dielectric loss of the composites. As shown in Figure 4(b), the dielectric loss tangent of the BT/SR composites is larger than that of the pure SR at low frequency. In addition, the dielectric loss displays a sharp decrease at a low frequency (lower than 1 kHz), caused by the DC leakage current. However, the electrode polarization can be excluded as there is no simultaneous decrease in the dielectric constant and dielectric loss with increasing frequency [42]. However, because of the weak polarization of the silicone matrix, the dielectric loss tangent of all the samples is lower than 0.015. The low dielectric loss means just a little energy dissipation during actuation, a big advantage for dielectric elastomer. The electromechanical performance of the SR composites was tested using circular actuators. Considering the safety and utility, the loaded electric field on the samples was 50 kV/mm. The actuated strains of the BT/SR composites are shown in Figure 5(a). With increasing electric field, the actuated strain of the samples increases significantly, because it is proportional to the square ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The main people of this story: Helen and Menelaus, and Iphigenia, who all have their specific roles in this play, and roles in their societies. Helen, being the one who is fought over, Iphigenia, who is being sacrificed, Menelaus, who is the king of sparta, but would lose that position without Helen, and Agamemnon, the father that sacrifices his daughter to Artemis. All of these example show what is expected of them in their positions, and their gender in their society. Helen of Troy isn t really a main character in this play, but her role pretty much creates the entire body of this play. Her beauty, and the role she had in Sparta, is why the Trojan war was fought. And I give my body willingly as a sacrifice for my country, for all of Greece (Euripides, Iphigenia in Aulis lines 2082 2085). Iphigenia s role as daughter in this play is for her to sacrifice herself because of the ignorance of her father. George says, Iphigenia s acceptance of the sacrifice is naive (George, 2012, pg. 1). • 11. Madame Bovary Characteristics Flaubert s Madame Bovary concludes with Monsieur Homais ecstatic because of his triumph in receiving the medal of the Legion of Honor. Homais, the town pharmacist in Yonville, spends most of his time adulating people in authority and attempting to publicize his good deeds to reach his success at the end novel. Moreover, Homais s immoral and self serving actions clearly display that he is certainly the last character in Madame Bovary that deserves to be encompassed in glory when the story has finished. Although it originally seems that Homais is an insignificant character who will chatter incessantly to anyone with social status, he ends up serving as one of the chief players who unfolds Flaubert s themes. Flaubert, through her description of the apothecary, characterizes the age of modernity to be synonymous with the new bourgeoisie class that has emerged in France. The faith in scientific or technological development, the increasing secularism of the era, and the prioritization of the individual were all themes of the time period. Flaubert uses the town pharmacist to portray the issues she noticed in 19th century France. Homais arises as an ironic depiction of the modern man through his interaction with Hippolyte and the beggar, his attempts to promote his status through self interested endeavors and flattering those with power, and his conversations with the priest of Yonville. • 15. But What Do You Mean By Deborah Tannen Summary Deborah Tannen and William Lutz both discuss the difficulty of communicating. Their point of views may be different, but their conclusion is the same. Men and women have difficulties of communicating. Not because the two genders want to be complicated but simply because we don t realize how or what we re doing when it s happening. Talking, it is a form of communication that we as people do because it is our human nature to. AS humans conversation is a ritual (327), we speak without thinking of other meanings that our words could mean. We don t think about appropriation, the way others may think, or take other feelings into account. WE as humans speak to interact because as mentioned earlier Conversation is a ritual (327). When it comes to talking there is no right way, the way society communicates it can mislead, distort, inflate, circumvent, obfuscate one another. In the first excerpt Deborah Tannen wrote But What Do You Mean? , she breaks down and classifies the conversational areas where men and women have the most difficulties communication. Tannen s excerpt is written from a personal point of view, it is written within her daily workplace and based off actions or events she encounters between men and women. In financial terms, conservative estimates place the harm to marine ecosystems at $13 billion annually. While the available literature on microplastic pollution impacts has grown due to this increased interest, research into the subject is at an early stage relative to other areas of inquiry. Further, research into the effects and sources of microplastic uptake in marine environments have been largely dependent on laboratory experimental studies, due the technical difficulties in analyzing microplastics in the field. This paper sets out to describe the ecological impacts of marine microplastic pollution as they are currently known: the various types of microplastics and their distinct potentials for environmental harm; the sources of and vectors for microplastic contamination; known effects on marine organisms; and concludes with a discussion of legislative/regulatory solutions to date and potential next steps. Overall, neither the direct nor long term effects of microplastic pollution in the field are thoroughly understood. • 18. The Shoelace By Charles Bukowski And Walking In The Blue Literature is Insanity When it comes to literature, many students have difficulty trying to understand the main reason the author wrote it. This is very evident in poems. Poems are verbal compositions designed to convey experiences, ideas, or emotions in a specific and creative way. They are characterized by the use of the way they are formatted and use literary techniques such as metaphors, similes, rhyme, and personification. With the many rules and forms that poems can have, a lot of them are hard to interpret. In this essay, I want to breakdown two poems meaning by comparing their similar underlying message by the authors similar styles and experiences. The two poems are The Shoelace by Charles Bukowski and Walking in the Blue by Robert Lowell. The Shoelace and Walking in the Blue are both poems that deal with the topic of understanding insanity. In Charles Bukowski s The Shoelace, he discusses the topic in a more typical and conventional view of insanity. While on the other hand, Robert Lowell focuses on the view of insanity from the view of noticeable and rough familiarities in his poem Walking in the Blue. The definition of insanity is the state of being mentally ill and a direct cause of insanity is mainly stress. Charles Bukowski s poem revives the known feeling of losing it and going into a state of madness. Bukowski relied on experience, emotion, and imagination in his works. The United States has many different ups and downs but one has an upside and a downside. I m talking about the Transcontinental Railroad. The Transcontinental Railroad was the first railway to go across the country. One of the complications of the railroad was that the government forcefully moved the Native Americans to reservations. Ways they got natives to go to the reservations was though taking their land, killing buffalo, and forcefully taking them. To the settlers manifest destiny was more important than Indian lives. They took Native land to make to make what they thought was more important(Doc 3). By taking the Natives land they are giving them a chance at owning the land and citizenship. But many of the Native people didn t have the money to buy the land they live on. Ways they killed buffalo was the tracks stopped them from migrating, the settlers killed them for sport, and trains hit them. The Indians kept harassing the train workers to try and get them to stop building the track so the buffalo can migrate (Doc 2). By killing buffalo the natives would starve and have no reason to stay there. But not all of the effects of the railroad are bad. But the civilian revolution did not happen until after Charles II s death in 1685. King Charles was succeeded by his brother James, who became James II of England and VII of Scotland. Research done at the University of Toledo College of Medicine has shown a decrease in the incidence of VAP in its ten bed surgical ICU by implementing a FASTHUG protocol. However, a breakthrough was reached when Jonas Salk managed to developed the first vaccine, which he brought to the public in 1955 after testing the drug on himself, family, and others. Salk developed a killed virus vaccine through tissue culture methods discovered by the scientist John Enders. Unfortunately, Salk s vaccine was not the cure that the scientific community, and the world, had hoped for, as the results of the vaccine took a critical turn for the worse shortly after release. This is responsible for anti androgen and anti progesterone adverse effects seen in treated individuals. Canrenone, marketed as principle active metabolite of spironolactone, is devoid of significant first pass metabolism and has a substantially longer t ½ as compared to the parent molecule (16.5 hours vs 1.4 hours). It has also been reported to have a lower incidence of antiandrogenic adverse reactions despite being a non selective MRA. Eplerenone, a spironolactone derivative, in contrast is a selective aldosterone receptor antagonist with lower affinity for the progesterone and androgen receptors and consequently is devoid of related adverse effects. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Initiated by the economist Stephen Ross in 1976, the APT is a general theory of asset pricing and has become very important and influential in stock pricing. The APT claims that the expected return of a financial asset can be modeled as a linear function of various macro economic factors or theoretical market indices, where sensitivity to changes in each factor is represented by a factor specific beta coefficient. The model derived rate of return will then be used to price the asset correctly. In other words, the asset price should equal the expected end of period price discounted at the rate implied by model. If the price diverges, arbitrage should bring it back into line. Risky asset returns are said to follow a factor structure if they can be expressed as: rj = E (rj) + bj1F1 + bj2F2 + ......+ bjnFn + (j where (rj) is the asset s return, E(rj) is the jth asset s expected return, (bjn) is the sensitivity of the jth asset to factor n, also called factor loading, (Fn) is a systematic factor (assumed to have mean zero), and ((j) is the risky asset s idiosyncratic random shock with mean zero. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Host factors, the virulence of bacteria, and most importantly the presence of an endotracheal tube determine the development of VAP. The tube is detrimental not only because it provides the conduit for bacteria, but also because it abolishes the cough reflex. Bacteria get access to the lungs via microaspiration and through the biofilm that is formed in the inner surface of the endotracheal tube or leakage of secretions around the cuff. Spread from an adjacent site of infection or via the blood represent rare causes of VAP. Pathogenic bacteria usually replace endogenous flora and colonize the nasopharynx, the oropharynx, the sinuses and the stomach subsequently collecting inside and around the endotracheal tube. Positive pressure ventilation also contributes to VAP development by thrusting bacteria into the airways. Antibiotic exposure, severity of underlying disease and previous surgery have been implicated as host factors [5,8]. Various strategies have been applied for the prevention of VAP, each with different levels of evidence. Preventive measures against VAP development can be divided into five distinct groups: ... When women are free in a society and once the leader dies, who made them free, it will often turn back to the way it was before that leader, leaving women unequal. Persepolis forced their women into many things they didn t want to. Muhammad s vision of Islam is depicted different than Persepolis on topics of gender equality. After the empowerment of the Islamic Regime, the treatment of women turned tables in Iran. Before the Regime, Iranian women were much like the average American woman during that time. The High Cost of Employee Turnover in Business When accounting for the costs (both real costs, such as time taken to select and recruit a replacement, and also opportunity costs, such as lost productivity), the cost of employee turnover to for profit organizations has been estimated to be between 30% (the figure used by the American Management Association) to upwards of 150% of the employees remuneration package.[4] There are both direct and indirect costs. Direct costs relate to the leaving costs, replacement costs and transitions costs, and indirect costs relate to the loss of production, reduced performance levels, unnecessary overtime and low morale. The true cost of turnover is going to depend on a number of variable including ease or difficulty in filling the position and the nature of the job itself. In a healthcare context, staff turnover has been associated with worse patient outcomes.[5] Internal versus external[edit] Like recruitment, turnover can be classified as internal or external .[6] Internal turnover involves employees leaving their current positions and taking new positions within the same organization. Both positive (such as increased morale from the change of task and supervisor) and negative (such as project/relational disruption, or the Peter Principle) effects of internal turnover exist, and therefore, it may be equally important to monitor this form of turnover as it is to monitor its external counterpart.
