The Voices Of Sorrow Analysis

ENGL 1711, Section 10
24 March 2016 The Voices of Sorrow For forty years, the world still turns a blind eye. The majority of
the world don t know who the Hmong people are. In history textbooks, the Vietnam War isn t really
emphasized as much as the other wars. It s usually a brief explanation of how America went to
Vietnam to fight a war against communism, but they never mention or consider the Hmong in their
history. The Hmong fought along side with the Americans against the war on communism, who was
trained by CIA. They are also known as America s forgotten ally . As the war goes on, America slowly
loses and decides to make a truce with Vietnam in 1975. Labeling the Hmong people as Insurgents . ...

The mistreatment and dehumanization act against the Hmong in Laos are a reality. America should
have put more effort in saving the Hmong people, but they left the Hmong without a sound and any
warning. The aftermath of the war that America created, made the Hmong lives the way they are
today. Suffering in harsh conditions, famine and fear. Not knowing if you re live the next day.
Constantly on the run. Could have the Americans done something? Of course! Do they want to do
anything? I mean the Hmong in Laos has been in the same conditions for 40 years, what makes you
think they would start now? There s an old saying seeing is not the same thing as doing it. Hearing ten

A Summary Of The Cherokee Tribe
History of Traditions Overdriving Biological Patterns
The Cherokee Tribe is among the more popularly known Native American tribes in the United States.
They are mainly remembered for their fight against the U.S. government and the Supreme Court and
their forced migration in the Trail of Tears. However, as mentioned by North Carolina Digital History
and Robert Conley, because of their written language, many of their traditions and history is well
known and taught in schools as an example of Native American culture (10.2 and 105). Michael D.
Green and Theda Perdure introduce Cherokee history in the book, The Cherokee Removal: A Brief
History with Documents. The tribe originally inhabited southeast North America in what is currently
Kentucky, Tennessee, South Carolina, and into northern Georgia and Alabama 1). From 1836 to 1839
the Cherokee Tribe was forcibly and harshly removed and relocated in Oklahoma in what is known as
The Trail of Tears (Green 160) Throughout all the changes the Cherokee had to undergo as they lost
their traditional land and home, they were able to keep their traditions, rituals, and ceremonies and
some, such as the dance and medicine use, are still practiced today. Traditions and rituals are repeated
over and over, year after year. For an event to have this much significance in a society it must have
been important from the time it began. As Miller Williams, a poet from 1930 2015, said, Ritual is
important to us as human beings. It ties us to our

The Importance Of Performance And Compensation Plans
Mrs. Miller is a dedicated teacher who has been teaching inclusion classes for 25 years and teaches to
truly make a difference in the lives of her students. She works with special education students hands
on and is not only looked at as an educator but a role model to these students that she has formed such
close relationships with. The state of Maryland has decided to adopt a merit pay system in which
teachers are paid depending on how well their students perform. A technology system will be used to
determine the amount of salary increase and decrease. This system uses four steps to establish the pay.
These steps include: establishing performance and compensation plans, manage performance, evaluate
performance, and link performance to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Merit pay could be a detrimental cut to her pay if she continues to teach solely the special education
students. The ethical dilemma is that Mrs. Miller could teach the advanced class and earn more money
because those students will perform better, or Mrs. Miller can stay with the inclusion class and
continue to change the lives of students like she originally intended to when becoming a teacher.
Regardless of the decision that Mrs. Miller makes, someone ends up at some sort of a disadvantage,
whether it be her students, herself, or her family. There are many other people to consider when
making this decision. The decision she makes will reflect her morals. This ethical dilemma deals with
professionalism and code of conduct. The stakeholders would include Mrs. Miller, Ms. Smith, Special
Education students, Mrs. Miller s children, and the school community. In the case of an ethical
dilemma, the best solution is not always clear. There are many different individuals and circumstances
to consider when finding a solution. The following solutions address the dilemma Mrs. Miller faces.
These include, Mrs. Miller teaches the advanced class, Mrs. Miller teachers the special education
class, Mrs. Miller teaches both classes along with Ms. Smith, or that Mrs. Miller starts a petition
against the merit pay system.
Carol Gilligan s Ethics of Care Framework is an appropriate ethical framework to use when assessing
this dilemma.

Graduation by Maya Angelou Critique

English 121 SL
May 9, 2012
Graduation Critique Graduation was written by Maya Angelou in 1969. Angelou was born in
Missouri, but after her parents divorced, she was sent to live with her grandmother in Stamps,
Arkansas. While in Arkansas, Angelou attended the Lafayette County Training School. The school is
the setting for her essay Graduation. Angelou graduated from eighth grade at Lafayette with top
honors and went on to graduate from high school. After high school, Angelou wrote over thirty plays,
poems, children s books, and one of her autobiographies, I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings
(Smelstor and Bruce). Graduation starts with Angelou s generalization of a high school senior s ...

The themes are identity and education. The essay can be found in Angelou s autobiography, I Know
Why the Caged Bird Sings. The autobiography describes how living in the south during the
Depression was a time for survival (Ball). The message of Graduation is the same; no matter what
obstacles arise she will survive. Angelou deserves an A for this essay because she has strong examples
of overcoming obstacles, sophisticated descriptions, and has a clear sense of purpose with strong
development. Angelou s example of overcoming adversity is the strongest at the end of the essay.
Something unrehearsed, unplanned, was going to happen, and we were going to be made to look bad
(Angelou 26). As she is sitting there as a young girl at her graduation, she can feel the unwelcoming
presence of the speaker s words and actions. Before the speaker begins his political rant of what he has
brought to the white community, Angelou anticipates that the graduating class is going to be shamed.
Angelou believes the speaker s words, and starts to doubt her hopes and dreams. The man s dead
words fell like bricks around the auditorium and too many settled in my belly (Angelou 28). As Henry
Reed starts to sing the Negro national anthem, Angelou finally senses that the words do have meaning
to her. Nearly every event that Angelou mentions in her autobiography has one of two different aims.
The aim she uses in this essay is how she faces obstacles, overcomes them, and

Essay about King Zethius Meeting
King Zethius took a leisurely walk through his tranquil gardens at his own pace, and it was a slow,
slow pace. Even though the hot scorching midday sun was beating down, he found it necessary to take
a walk, calm his nerves, and gather his thoughts on issues soon to come. For many months, the king
and his advisers have met in one, of many cool, damp secret chambers beneath the Citadel of Splendor
to discuss the growing problems with lawless merchants outside Kelmoor Keep. For far too long the
wily merchants from Verktus and Westgate have plundered the small independent cities, towns, and
farm villages scattered about the lush moorlands of their goods. Some merchants would force the
farmers to sell their goods at very low prices ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Perfect, happily welcomed the good news, the sooner the better. Hugging a small stack of palimpsest
close to his chest, he headed off to the war chambers sorting through the papers as he walked, nimble
fingers folding the pages back just enough so he could see the titles or numbers on the pages. Instead
of writing down real names, he gave everything a nickname. Therefore, if someone was able to read or
stole his papers they would be completely lost, finding the writing gibberish and worthless. Thanks to
his curse, he would remember them all with little thought. Rounding the corner, he saw the name
Ventis, and stopped at the well guarded door that led down to the sub terrestrial chamber. He closed
his eyes remembering the names and faces he spoke to while in the small city. He remembers their
eyes. The soul bleeds through the eyes like mirrors splashed with a ceaseless lambent, a manifestation
filled with life, and love, and happiness, and freedom. Sadly, what he saw in most of the people, were
eyes like windows of gloom; a light so dim one could scarcely see it, a manifestation that was lifeless
and insignificant, and meaningless, simple obtuse idlers without any will of their own. That is it, he
cried, They are using magic! The guards that were flanking the door shared glances to one another, but
said nothing. Ignoring the guards, he stepped to the landing, greeted by the scant flickers of light

opportunity to find out the logistics or emotional upheaval that led to his or her adoption. In contrast,
the two authors also announce predominantly, the adopted child faces all of the general problems of
development encountered by his non adopted peers (Sallee 2). Sallee and LeVine are unspecific as to
whether an adoptee s aspects in his or her life are discovered as a young child, adolescent, or adult.
The general problems are casually written, so this statement cannot be proved in this passage but can
be easily be supported by the prior arguments of other authors. However, adoptive parents may be
more sensitive to psychological dysfunction and more likely to obtain clinical services for their
adopted children (Nilsson 9). Even though ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Unlike the emotional problems of adoptees compared to those of those not adopted, international
adoptees presented fewer behavior problems and are less often referred to mental health services than
domestic adoptees (Juffer 2). Although in a case study of twelve to fifteen year old boys that compared
international adoptees to non adoptees, the adopted children scored higher in the problematic behavior
section and lower in their social and academic functioning. These scores were taken from a chart
related to delinquency and hyperactivity in adopted and non adopted teenagers (Cerhulst 1). In the
same study though, adoptees were found to have more participation in sport and non sport activities.
Based on this finding, adopted children may have a social advantage on another aspect of childhood,
making friends and a good physical health. However, in another general study, adoptees are more
likely to have difficulties with drug and alcohol abuse, as well as, infertility, suicide and untimely
pregnancies later in life (Bohman 1). From these results, adopted children are more likely than those
not adopted to have additional problems stemming from their psychological issues if not early in life,
later in life. Taking drug and alcohol abuse into account, from a national sample, adoptees had higher
prevalence rates of lifetime SUDs than

Social Darwinism And The Progressive Era
2. Already in the late 19th century, the American Federation of Labor had begun to represent a
growing segment of the American population discontented with the status quo of corporate
exploitation. At the onset of the 20th century however this message began to take particular weight, as
evidenced by the tripling of the AFL s membership and the rise of the Industrial Workers of the World.
Labor unions, the Socialist Party and progressives as a whole took issue with the doctrine of Social
Darwinism and moved forward as a somewhat united front with the goal of bringing meaningful
change to American society. As America made the transition into an industrial power in the latter half
of the 19th century, Social Darwinism became a prevalent method of rationalizing massive inequality
and widespread poverty. This doctrine of leaving the poorest in the nation to uplift themselves from
abject hardship without being provided any means to do so was exemplified as the American
population became increasingly concentrated in cities. Poor families would often go without
electricity or indoor toilets. Staggering inequality continued into the Progressive era. It was estimated
that J.P. Morgan s financial firm controlled 40 percent of all financial and industrial capital in the
nation. The largest conclaves of organized labor, the Industrial Workers of the World and the American
Federation of Labor, sought to tackle the stifling economic and political climate through sharply
contrasting

The Oscar Whiteness Machine, By Richard Brody
The Oscar Whiteness Machine, written by Richard Brody, was published in the online The New
Yorker January 21st, 2016. The author has written for the New Yorker since 1999 and has been one of
their white movie critics, one of the subjects of this article, since 2005. In the Article Brody takes the
stance of a social justice warrior, proclaiming war on all those complicit in the disparity between
white and black; especially in the film arena. His subject changes with paragraphs, movie critics,
Oscar nominees and watchers, readers of the article, and anyone discriminatory. The Oscar Whiteness
Machine is a mix of genres but it gets its main point across, black people have been discriminated
against in the Oscars, and in life, and the film business plays a role in the suppression of black culture.
We honor the best and whitest. Neil Patrick Harris s opening line at the Oscars in 2015 does a good
job at pointing out one of the flaws of the award show that Richard Brody so passionately writes
about. The article, while aimed at the Oscars, however, encompasses a wider issue. According to
Brody this issue is the whiting out of movies about black experience. and looking at the past two years
of nominations and winners, I wouldn t say he s wrong (Brody 1). Brody uses logos to point out the
overwhelming evidence of the best movies by black filmmakers have gone utterly unnoticed by the
Academy (Brody 2). He names actors like Danny Glover and Alfre Woodard who have never been

A Case For The Foreclosure Proceeding
This case arises out of a foreclosure proceeding initiated in the Circuit Court for Baltimore City by
substitute trustees Thomas P. Dore, Mark S. Devan, Gerard F. Miles, Jr., Shannon Menapace, and Erin
Gloth (collectively, the Substitute Trustees ), appellees. In the foreclosure proceedings, the Substitute
Trustees filed an order to docket a foreclosure with respect to real property located at 3517 Woodstock
Avenue, Baltimore, Maryland 21213 ( the Property ) owned by mortgagor Celeste Wenegieme (
Wenegieme ), appellant. Following the sale of Wenegieme s property and the ratification of that sale,
the purchaser of the property, Wells Fargo Bank, M.A. ( Wells Fargo ), filed a motion for judgment
awarding possession of the property. The circuit court granted Well s Fargo s motion and this timely
appeal followed. On appeal, Wenegieme challenges the sale of the property. Indeed, Wenegieme
presents one question for our review, which we have rephrased as follows:
Whether the circuit court erred in granting Wells Fargo s motion for judgment awarding possession.
For the reasons set forth herein, we shall affirm the judgments of the Circuit Court for Baltimore City.
FACTS AND PROCEEDINGS In June of 2008, Wenegieme purchased the Property in exchange for a
note and a Deed of Trust made to the order of Advisors Mortgage Group, LLC, in the amount of
$216,956 plus interest. The note was subsequently transferred to Wells Fargo. In February of 2012, the
parties agreed to modify

Mt. Vesuvius Research Paper
Mt. Vesuvius is a volcano that is located near the Bay of Naples in Italy and is hundred of thousands
years old. It has erupted over 50 times but its most famous eruption was in the year 79 A.D. when it
buried the ancient Roman city of Pompeii . A witness write that the dust poured across the land like a
flood . Two thousand people died and the city of Pompeii was left abandoned for almost as many
years for each person that died. When a group of archaeologists rediscovered the site in year 1748 they
were shocked to see that the city was almost completely intact under the ash and debris from the
eruption that happened long ago. The skeletons of people and artifacts were left behind in the buried
city that was once called Pompeii. This has taught us a lot about their everyday life back so long ago.

As a matter of fact scholars say the mountain is hundreds of thousands of years old and had been
erupting for generations before the dreaded 79 A.D eruption. For example the 1780 B.C eruption was
an unusually violent one and is known today as the Avellino eruption. This eruption sent superheated
lava, ash and rocks about 22 miles into the sky. That ancient catastrophe destroyed almost every
village farm and house within the 15 mile radius of the mountain. Mt. Vesuvius Is part of the
Campanian volcanic arc. It s a line of volcanoes that have formed over a subduction zone created by
the convergence of the African and Eurasian plates.
Mount vesuvius besides being a hundred of thousands of ear old volcano is also a somma

Analytical Analysis Of Frost At Midnight By Samuel Coleridge
Analytical essay of Frost at Midnight by Samuel Coleridge
People think that nature brings a sort of calmness, happiness or peace, which is why most people
travel to places with beautiful sceneries, or build houses near beaches, or have a plant in their
surrounding or even just a painting of a tree, flower or mountain. The importance of nature is
subjective as it nature touches people in different ways. The poem Frost at Midnight, Samuel
Coleridge, is a monolingual conversation between the speaker and his sleeping infant. It is written in
blank verse, with little or no rhyme but in iambic pentameter. In this poem, the speaker emphasises the
importance of nature by equating it to God, he also speaks about the ability of nature to create
treasured memories, which he wants to use to plant himself in his child s future, therefore, he his
rallying against modernization because of this.
The speaker stresses the importance of nature by comparing it to God, he says that his child will be far
from God because he will not be able to hear God s voice which apparently is, The lovely shapes and
sounds intelligible / Of that eternal language... (65 66). I believe that this comparison is quite different
as most religions such as Christianity do not equate God with earth but instead suggests that God
created earth (New International Version, Gen. 1.1). This sentence makes me think that God can mean
different things to different people. The thing or person we worship the most or respect the most can
be a god, money can be a god, a popular music artist can be a god, and a tyrannical president can also
be a god. The speaker s definition of a God involved the ability to: from eternity doth teach Himself in
all... Great universal Teacher! (67 69).The speaker s definition of God entails the ability to be able to
teach one s self and be able to mold spirits. Thereby nature is important in this way because it can
mold people s spirits and lives.
Another way in which the speaker stresses the importance of nature is by stating benefits from nature.
He is sitting at home and staring out through the window, looking at the fluttering object and listening
to the owl while the rest of the residents in the house are asleep. He is in his

I have chosen to complete a literature based dissertation as I think this is best suited for this type of

2008 Financial Crisis Analysis
The financial crisis of 2008/2009 was the most serious economic decline since 1929. This paper will
discuss a few of the causes of the crisis, the role the Federal Reserve played in connection with the
three main economic goals, and will then describe traditional and non traditional measures taken to
stimulate the economy. Finally, this essay will relate the government to our present day economic
environment and explain why some economists say that the United States is experiencing a new
normal.
The economic and financial crisis of 2008/2009 can be attributed to many things. The main reason for
the crisis can be attributed to the housing industry and the mortgages associated. When individuals

This caused lenders to reduce their standards, giving loans to those who had poor credit and low
income. Predatory lending practices were also used, giving out loans without verifying income.
Additionally, adjustable rate mortgages were offered, which offered payment homeowners could
manage to pay for at first, but expanded beyond what they could continue to pay for. Since these
practices were new, historical data showed that mortgage debt was a safe investment. Investors
continued to dump money into these investments while realistically, these investments were becoming
more risky. (Wallison)
Due to all the investments being made, careless lending requirements, and low interest rates within the
real estate market, housing prices continued to increase. Finally, borrowers started defaulting on these
loans, putting more houses on the market. However, there were not many buyers. Housing prices
began to fall since supply was up and demand was down. Often, mortgages became worth more than
their house was worth. By 2007, large lenders were declaring bankruptcy. They had invested large
amounts of money into the Mortgage Backed Securities and were losing money on these investments.

My Writing, Reflection, And Technology In Academic Writing
When the semester began, I struggled with many of our learning outcomes. However, by completing
Project Four, I have made great advancements in my ability to read, write, reflect, and use technology
in academic writing. I have noticed that gradually my writing and comprehension have grown.
Therefore, my overall experience in English 1010 was great. Professor Jeff Pruchnic is a great teacher,
whom I learned I great deal from. I ve always struggled with rhetorical analysis essays in high school.
In his class he made the essays seem easier than I remember and now I understand each person part.
The reading objective helped me with my comprehension skills. In other words, I have developed the
skills to read a text and infer what the author s purpose and meaning of the text. In class, we did
various exercises as a class to help to try to find the main ideas of an article. We would pair off into
groups and annotate an article that Professor Pruchnic assigns to guidelines.
For example, Professor Pruchnic asked the class to annotate the article Trump Tells Pence to Leave
NFL and make our annotations with the understanding that we are going to generate a response to the
piece under review. After we complete our annotations, use the response templates in The Warrior
Writer to create an agree disagree and agree and disagree statement about arguments or sides
addressed in the article. Overall, all this practice helped me in the long run.
Writing helped me get all of my thoughts down before constructing my essays. In my years at high
school, I ve always needed to write my rough draft before typing it because I felted that this was a
better way for me to get all the details down before I lose my train of thought. But, now there are other
ways that I have met that I believe will
work just as well. One of those ways was the quotes in response exercise, which we had to choose five
quotes from an article and respond to them in full paragraphs.
This technique was an exercise that I enjoyed because I felt like it helped my essay better flow and it
made it easier to find main points to discuss. Another thing that helped my writing was the peer edits.
Most of the time their comments are helpful to me

Outline and evaluate two methods of stress management Essays
Outline and evaluate two methods of stress management.
One physiological method of treatment is Biofeedback. Physiological methods help people cope with
the effects of stress by changing the way the body responds to it. With biofeedback the aim is to teach
the client how to relax. The person learns how to regulate the symptoms of stress in real life stressful
situations.
There are 4 steps involved. Firstly, the person is attached to a machine that monitors the body s
response to stressors and then gives feed back on heart rate and blood pressure etc. The person then
learns to control these symptoms and reduce the effect that stress has on the blood pressure etc. They
may learn to take deep ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is also an effective treatment as it aims to treat the cause of the problem as well as the symptoms. It
can give clients a greater sense of control over themselves as well which can have much longer lasting
benefits. Another advantage would be that it has no side effects or harmful addictions attached etc. It
is also voluntary and not invasive for example in drug treatment withdrawal symptoms may be
distressing. Biofeedback can be used for an unlimited time, as it is not addictive in the way that BZ s
(for example) can be (as they are only used for a maximum of four weeks to prevent this) so
biofeedback is seen as more of a long term cure of stress.
However, biofeedback has the drawback of being extremely costly and time consuming. It needs
specialist equipment and expert supervision, although attempts have been made to produce a more
accessible therapy by using cards the client would put their thumb on a card and it would measure the
stress levels (stressed, tense, normal, calm) etc. Some also argue that the benefits of biofeedback can
be achieved from other relaxation techniques and so it is an unnecessary expense.
Another method of stress includes the psychological technique of stress inoculation training
(Meichenbaum). The training was

John Locke And The State Of Nature
John Locke gives this very well thought out way of explaining how people are born with the right to
take ownership of the fruits of the earth. Everyone comes to having a right to all the fruits of the earth
because we are all born equal. That being said, everyone owns only their own person, and we are to be
considered as property. Therefore if we own our own person and everything that we entail to be, we
also would own our own labor and work of our hands. What makes property our own is when we
work with the state of nature and everything that has been provided from God through the state of
nature. We do not earn the right to ownership simply because we do more work than someone else, but
because through our work we have mixed the state of nature with ourselves making it part of our
property. However as there are rights to the property, there are also limitations based on how much we
can use or own. As a community living together in the state of nature we must leave a fair and equally
prosperous amount to our fellow people. If this limitation is not in place some people would not ever
have the opportunity to own property because the strongest and the smartest would be able to tend to
the land better than them. Another limitation placed on this theory is that you only have the right to
own what you can tend to. This means that if you own property that you cannot properly tend to and
some of the land becomes unfertile you have taken property that is not beneficial to you or

Florida, a treasure trove of many, many species of animals and diverse wildlife. How many of those,
Florida species are actually native to Florida though? If you walk outside you will probably see lizards
everywhere, you know, the brown ones. Well, what if I told you, that they are not actually native to
Florida? Those lizards are called Brown Anoles, and they are actually from Cuba and the Bahamas.
This is just one example of the many invasive species, which compete with Florida s native species for
food, resources and territories everyday. A few more examples of invasive species that are harmful to
our wildlife are the Cuban tree frog, which is a threat to not only other frogs but toads and lizards as
well, the Burmese python, which is invading the everglades, and the air potato, which is slowly
creeping its way up through Florida, tree to tree. The Cuban tree frog, true to its name, originates in
Cuba and was brought here through the Caribbean (wec.ufl.edu), probably by cargo or cruise ships,
docking at our ports. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According UF s Center for Aquatic and Invasive Plants, the Air potato is both on the Florida Noxious
weed list and is listed as one of Florida s most invasive plant Species since the 1990 s. The air potato
is originally from the tropics of Asia (CAIP) and is heart shaped in appearance. The reason the air
potato is considered a harmful species is because it is parasitic. The potato starts its journey in the
ground and continues upward in vine form to find a host to latch onto. Once the vine finds a host tree,
bush, or other plant, it begins by latching itself onto the outermost leaves, twigs, and limbs. Once the
vine has fully attached itself, it drains nutrients from the fleshy parts of the host, thereby helping itself
survive and harming the host, rendering itself with the label,

The Benefits Of Genetic Counseling
What is genetic counseling? What is a genetic counselor? Those questions and more are some things I
remember thinking about in my sophomore year chemistry class. I was so intrigued, yet I had no idea
what any of it meant. At the time, I had no idea how common they were, and just how much genetics
advanced every day while I was clueless.
Our genes are what make us who we are. Humans share 99.5% of our DNA with each other. That
means that every piece of DNA that makes us different is only .5% of our total DNA. A nucleus is a
large organelle of a cell that holds almost all of the cell s DNA (Tortora, Grabowski). In the nucleus of
every human cell, DNA is tightly packaged into a structure called a chromosome (U.S. National
Library of Medicine). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Lao Teh Ching Summary
In advance of the group discussion regarding Tao Teh Ching written by Lao Tzu I already had a
profoundly fluid knowledge of the several paradoxes and the principles of Taoism that were displayed
in the book by Tzu. However I lacked the ability to comprehend the government based aspects, or how
they related to the major themes that were spread throughout the book. Also since during the time this
book was written it was a warring states period, why was there such a substantial emphasis on having
a peaceful state of mind. While I was partaking in our discussion these points were made more clear to
me and allowed everything that I already knew to be tied into one thought. Since I was already aware
of the paradoxes that were shown throughout the

Kate Chaplin s The Storm
In Kate Chaplin s The Storm , we find a beautiful, gripping love affair depicted expertly by symbols of
nature. The Storm is set in the late 1800 s in the deep south, presented in the language of the text.
From the beginning of the short story it is clear the storm is placed to move the story along.
The Storm is broken up into five segments. Straight from the beginning Bibi, Calixta s four year old
child, notices the storm. At the same time, the father, Bobinot decides to remain in Friedheimer s store
until the storm passes. During the second segment of The Storm , the symbolization of the storm and
the affair begin to show. While Bibi and Bobinot are taking safety, Calixa is distracted by sowing and

Alcee approaches, like the storm, to seek shelter on the front porch. Once introduced, it is clear of
Alcee s true intentions of why he is on Calixta s porch as the two of them had old interactions in
Assumption. His voice and her own startled her as if from a trance... , (88). This quote expresses the
intense connection between Calixa and Alcee right from the start. As the storm picks up, and begins to
beat down heavier Chopin expresses that he might as well have been in the open because the porch is
not keeping him out of the weather. Chopin provides a terrible storm providing the perfect encounter
to let Alcee come into Calixta s house. They continue to close up the house, and Calixta begins to
worry about her husband and child. As she peers through the foggy window, lightning strikes a nearby
tree, and Alcee encircles her with his arms. At this point, Chopin uses the storm to literally push her
into his arms, and they give into the passion between one another. Chopin is still using the storm to
provoke the story to symbolize and confirm the passion in the affair. At the climax, Chopin writes,

Analysis Of The Colonel By Carolyn Forche
Carolyn Forche, author of The Colonel, writes this poem in a prose style technique. Prose poetry is a
communicative stye that sounds natural and uses correct grammatical structure, but refrains from
employing rhythmic arrangement ( Prose Examples and Definition... ). The focus of the poem begins
with an ordinary family and the details of a routine day; however, this quickly develops with the
sudden detail a pistol on the cushion beside him and induces a major tonal shift. Forche commences
objective imagery to exhibit the negative connotations the Colonel possesses and compares this to the
normal lifestyle of the family. Readers of the poem may overlook the importance of blunt imagery and

Why Men Are More Talented At Design Than Women
There is no way to accurately measure the success rate of designers based on sex or sexual orientation,
or, somewhat speciously, to examine if men are more talented at design than women. As Valerie
Steele, the chief curator of the Museum of the Fashion Institute of Technology, said: There is no gay
gene for creativity.
But circumstantial evidence is making some designers wonder about the disparities. Of the young
American designers most embraced by retailers and celebrated in the fashion press in recent years, the
roll call is almost exclusively male: Zac Posen, Marc Jacobs, Narciso Rodriguez and Mr. Som as well
as Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez of Proenza Schouler. Their female contemporaries have
had a harder time breaking through, among them Behnaz Sarafpour, Alice Roi and Ms. Subkoff.
Gay men stick together like a band of brothers, Ms. Subkoff said in an interview. It s more common
for a man to bring up a younger assistant who is male and be proud of that, she added, whereas a
woman would be threatened to promote another woman.
The Council of Fashion Designers of America, a trade group that vets those who apply for
membership, is made up of 121 women and 156 men. Since 1986 its annual Perry Ellis awards for
young talent have been given to 8 women and 29 men (20 of them openly gay).

Imagine living in a world where everyone is happy. One is free to have sexual intercourse with a
partner of his or her choosing without any repercussion. However, there is a catch; one is required to
be happy all the time. In the novel Brave New World, their society is controlled and everyone is forced
to be happy. There are three characters that are not happy. Bernard who feels that he is an outsider and
miss treated, John who is also known as the savage and was hot raised in the world state society, and
Helmholtz who feels his work is meaningless and wants to be able to write meaningful things.
Humanity suffers in the world state society because the members of society are not making their own
decisions, which is the cause of the World State unhappiness.
The world state is not as truthful as it appears to be. The society is forced but the government makes

Throughout Chapter one Frazier establishes Inman s character in sufficient detail for the reader to feel

superiority as to their knowledge of Inman and his feelings. Inman is based on Frazier s great uncle.
This gives them a better impression of him and a greater feeling of pity for him and his situation.

The fact that he is still affected by it shows the grotesqueness of it and also in some ways shows the
weakness of his mental defences. This is because he can not block out the images and ordeals that he
has endured. He is a very humane and sensitive person. The reader can tell this from Inman s only
thought looking on the enemy was, Go home. This shows that even though he is fighting he wishes
that he could stop and let the enemy get back to their lives. This shows how even those that war has
affected in an extreme way can still have a sense of human decency. Even so he still has to find
someone to blame for any unfortunate event. The reader realises this when Inman asks the blind man
Who put out your pair of eyes. This may have come about because
Inman has witnessed so many unfortunate incidents and tragedies at human hands that he has
forgotten about natural causes. The fact that he feels this way is a direct contrast to the way he feels
towards nature and his humane approach to the way people are treated. This is very tactless and it also
shows that he is a very open minded and accepting person. This is shown by his meeting with the
Cherokee tribe. This gives the reader the impression that Inman is very tolerant of other cultures as he
listens to what Swimmer teaches him and only asks minimal questions. This also shows that he has a

Four Categories Of Love
George Sand claimed that, there is only one happiness in this life, to love and be loved. Humans as a
species crave interaction and have a longing for love. Love a person feels can be the driving force for
their actions, causing people to commit inappropriate actions and have unthinkable thoughts.
However, it can also cause eternal happiness and happy endings. At a philosophic standpoint there are
four different categories for love: Philia, Storge, Agape, and Eros. Philia is often translated to mean
brotherly love or friendship. This can be the love a person feels for their friends, neighbors, co
workers, and the people in their lives below their family. When people consider others to be friends it
is often because they have shared interest or hobbies. Friends are people that a person can confide
with and feel safe with. A person wants to have this feeling with someone and because of that this type
of love can drive a person to actions they would not normally do. It is because of the connection they
feel towards that person and the closeness they feel. It might be a shared event or story. Banana
Yoshimoto wrote a novel titled, Kitchen, that involves a man and woman falling in love after a shared
experience. When Yuichi s classmate came to confront Mikage about her relationship with Yuichi she
claimed that, But love is not a joke, it also means sharing someone else s pain (Yoshimoto 72). What
the troubled, jealous girl was saying is that loving someone involves sharing connections with a
person. In this case Mikage and Yuichi shared the pain of the lose of two loved ones. Together they
were able to feel each other s pain which caused their love to grow closer as the connections
deepened. Yoshimoto continued the book by adding a second part to the novel that was a story all on
its own. In this part of the story a young woman loses the love of her life, Hitoshi. She fell into despair
and pain. At the same time as she was struggling with the lose of her best friend, another young man
was losing the love of his life. Together they created ritual to honor their loved ones without knowing
the other existed. When they eventually met they made the connection of death. Together they were

Should Henry Come Out Of The Closet Essay
Question: Should Henry (the 15 year old boy) come out of the closet and not keep his sexuality a
secret from his family and friends? Yes, I feel that Henry should come out of the closet. Ethical
Principle 1 (Rights): Sexual orientation is inherent in every human being. It is something beyond our
control and it wasn t Henry s choice to be homosexual. It is his basic human right to decide if he wants
to come out . If he does, he should not be judged as he definitely has reasons for doing so. He is
probably tired of hiding himself and what he truly is. Homosexuals are human as well. It is wrong for
society to place Henry as a subject for discrimination just because they perceive homosexuality as

living in self destruction and psychological distress. Addressing the negative impact: Since family
acceptance would mean the greatest, my suggestion is to put Henry s family through counselling.
Although it may be a long process, it will help change their perceptions and slowly accept Henry for
who he is. There is a need for society to learn to accept homosexuals. One solution is to increase the
number of counselling and support centres. By doing so, it encourages more homosexuals to accept
themselves, thus making it more socially acceptable. We should not stress over the way others choose

Disadvantages of Biofuel Production
According to this article written by David Pimentel, Alison Marklein, Megan A. Toth, Marissa N.
Karpoff, Gillian S. Paul, Robert McCormack, Joanna Kyriazis, and Tim Krueger, the production of
biofuels is not only energetically wasteful in most circumstances, but it is also causing food shortages
throughout the world. By creating biofuels throughout United States, we are not only using up
valuable farmlands, but we are actually becoming more dependent upon foreign oil.
Throughout this article several statistics are given to show how energetically unfavorable the
production of biofuels really is. Not only does the production of biofuels require huge amounts of
resources like water, cropland, and chemical fertilizers, but in many cases it also consumes more net
energy in fossil fuels than it produces in alternative energy resources. Some examples of biofuel
production throughout the world include biomass resources, corn ethanol, grass and cellulosic ethanol,
soybean biodiesel, and algae for oil production.
Renewable biomass resources on planet Earth amount to nearly 92 quads or 19% of the global energy
use per year. One quad is equal to 1 quadrillion or 1015 BTU s. To place this into perspective, a little
over 1,000 BTU s are in a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. The majority of these biomass resources
come from wood harvested from forests throughout the world. Included in this biomass calculation is
the total forest biomass production that yields 38 quads or 8% of the

Essay On Passover
Passover is one of the most widely observed holidays and one of the most sacred to the Jewish people.
It is a time of songs, family, and celebration. During this time, the Jews commemorate the bondage of
the Israelites to Egypt. This weeklong celebration includes several rituals such as the meal known as
the seder, removal of leavened bread and readings from the Haggadah. Passover customs between the
Yemenites (Eastern Jews) and the European Jews vary in certain ways. One variation is in their
musical interpretations of the Passover seder. Passover begins on the sunset marking the start of the
15th day of Nisan, the first month of the Jewish calendar. It commemorates the covenant between God
and the Jewish people. Over 3,000 years ago, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They also sing and chant a plethora of poetry and writing from the Haggadah. Though every family
may have their own traditions, there is a larger distinction between the musical interpretations of the
Yemenites and the European Jews (Ashkenazic). The Yemenites, also known as the Sephardic Jews,
have a more folks song way to their seder. A Yemenite seder uses different melodies than the
European. They tend to not be trained singers, were as the Europeans have trained singers who begin
their training as a young child. The Yemenites also may chant the four questions that are usually for
the youngest child together in unison. They just join in whenever the chanting is going on. The
Europeans tend to reserve those questions for the youngest child. Even though the information in the
Haggadahs are nearly identical, the songs towards the end of the seder is where they differ
considerably. At the end of the European Haggadah, there are seven piyutim. The first five are from
the 12th century and the last two were added later in the 15th century from Jewish folks songs. This
piyutim have made their way into the Sephardic traditions over the years and have become an
essential part of Passover. The Sephardi sing their songs in their traditional language rather than

Sonnet 130 And Hyperbole
In this interpretation, I will be analyzing poetry written by Shakespeare including poetic terms and a
socio historical examination of the text. For this analysis, I will be discussing Sonnet 130 and the
poem All the World s a Stage. These poems by Shakespeare are both well known and very
representative of his literary style and his use of contrasting literary devices to paint a vivid picture for
the audience. Shakespeare is a unique and very deft user of language to tell stories that are
understandable to not only audiences from his time but our own as well. In the poem All the World s a
Stage, Shakespeare uses several poetic techniques to bring out existential questions in the reader s
mind. These techniques include smile, imagery and hyperbole. In this poem, Shakespeare argues that
the world is but a stage and men are the actors. This cynical view of the world is explained through
hyperbolic language and scenes throughout a representative life of a man, as told by Shakespeare.
Hyperbole is used when describing the life of the man in the story and the various actions and
behaviors of this man in general. These exaggerated physical descriptions and behaviors effectively
use the exaggerative qualities of hyperbole to evoke emotions of introspection and despair. I believe
that Shakespeare used hyperbole in this way to cause the reader to reflect on their own life and to be
more cognizant of their place in the grand scheme of things. This poetic device was likely used due to
the period that this poem was written in. During this time, most people were focused on surviving and
making sure they had enough to eat; rather than having the time to think about more existential and
ethereal matters, such as, is this the life that I want to be living. This likely has to do with the lack of
middle class opportunities for the average person during this time. This hyperbolic language is seen in
line 9 And shining...like snail. Line 12 Sighing like...woeful ballad. In these two lines Shakespeare
describes a young schoolboy that is disgusted with going to school. In the second line, he describes a
husband mentally exhausted and sighing in a obvious and exaggerated manner likely passive
aggressively. By describing the

Laws Of Supply And Demand In Economics
This article is about the elevate in gasoline in wakes of Hurricanes Harvey and Irma. Given the way
winds and floods shut down oil rigs, batter refineries and disrupt pipelines, there was minute chance
that Florida s energy infrastructure would elude the wrath of these natural disasters. Are these elevates
in price just the beginning of a rise in gasoline prices until repairs are consummated or a replication to
price gouging? For some economics this remains to be unseen. The laws of supply and demand have
yet to assert themselves in the hardest hit areas of Florida and Texas. This ties directly into the laws of
demand. Let s use produce as an example. A rudimentary consumer has been culled and is shown an

Some consumers may not like the product at all, in which case they would be inclined to buy very
little (if any) even at a low price. It s clearly seen that everyone has their own tastes or predilections
and one of the captivating features of a free market economy is the latitude consumers have for
expressing and indulging these predilections. With a few intriguing exceptions, such as certain drugs,
consumers in free market economies are constrained only by their incomes when it comes to deciding
what they will buy or reluct to buy. They are free to change their minds, a possibility advertisers
appear to take quite solemnly. Another huge influence on demand is the consumer s income. A change
in a consumer s income might cause a significant change in the quantities of particular goods that
consumer would want to purchase at different prices. What the change might actually be is difficult to
suggest, for the effect could be either positive or negative depending on how being richer or poorer
affects a person s demand for a commodity like lettuce. If the relationship is positive, with the demand
increasing with income, the good is said to be a normal good, and this is probably the case for most
generally available commodities. If there is a negative relationship between income and the demand
for a particular good, with less of it being purchased as income rises, the good would be defined as an
inferior good. Another

Academic Cheating Is The Act Of Being Dishonest
Academic Cheating
Academic cheating is the act of being dishonest in assignment or examinations at school (McCabe,
Donald, Trevino, and Butterfield 2). It shows a lack of academic integrity. In the recent times,
academic cheating is becoming more rampant, and this was confirmed by the many numbers of
students who have admitted that they do cheat. Academic cheating can be inform of copying from
different tests or other student work, getting or giving help during exams, use of crib notes or even
getting others to do the exams on your behalf. Initially, there were very few cases of academic
cheating because of the strict rules and disciplinary actions that were linked to such action. However, a
lot has changed, the advent of technology and other factors have led to increased cases of academic
cheating. Currently, it is becoming a learned behavior with various serious consequences in the future,
and if effective measures are not developed to manage it, Cheating will undermine the value of
education.
One of the main cause of academic cheating is pressure to do well or succeed in examinations. Many
students are pressurized by their parents, guardians and peers to succeed (McCabe, Donald, Trevino,
and Butterfield 6). The pressure for getting his grade is very high in many colleges and high school
students. Such students believe that grades determine their future, and if they fail, they will not make

audience would laugh, and at the end of a scene the audience would clap. The musical consisted of 2
acts, and in the following paragraphs I will explain how the music and the performance made me feel,
the good and the bad.
The performance began with a beautiful introduction, followed by the beginning of the song Come On
Feel The Noize, by Quiet Riot. During the introduction, the music made me feel free and alive. I could
picture myself drinking a cold beer with a guitar in my lap. Immediately following the beginning of
the song Noize was the song Just Like Paradise, by David Lee Roth, which flowed

A Six-Step Writing Process
As high school students you write almost every day whether that is in the form of an essay, research
paper or a tweet on the Internet. What if I told you there was a simpler way to write that allows
information to be organized as well as presented better? The writing process consists of six main
steps. These six steps consist of pre writing, drafting, revising, editing, proofreading and publishing.
Some of these steps are more prominent in the process, but as a whole these steps assist in the creating
of a clear and well written paper. To help demonstrate the writing process in simpler way I will relate
it to something that is well known to most teenagers, that being food. Not just food but also the
process of preparing food in specific the process of creating a stir fry. In the writing process the first
step consists of a pre writing stage. Pre writing can be explained in the form of an outline or notes
about the writing assignment you will begin shortly. In congruence with the pre writing stage, creating
a stir fry uses similar procedures. So to start off the stir fry process you must first gather your
ingredients. These ingredients can consist of a variety of meats to provide protein including chicken,
shrimp and beef. This step is just like in a paper when you gather the info for the bulk of your paper,
such as choosing the topic of the paper. By doing this first step in the writing process as well as the
cooking process you prepare yourself a guideline for the

The Bronx Zoo, And The Botanical Gardens Essay
When one thinks of the Bronx, we think Yankee Stadium, the Bronx Zoo, and the Botanical Gardens.
But ultimately, many neglect the Bronx as the poorest county, with the highest dropout rates, and
unemployment rates in the State of New York. I spent the last five years trying to fix some of these
issues, working especially with children from the ages of nine to seventeen with a nonprofit
organization called CBALL. We aim to empower young leaders and prevent children from falling
victim to the criminal culture that plagues the Bronx. A direct correlation exists between the well
being of the residents in the Bronx and the crime rates. For example, seven out of the twenty New
York City neighborhoods with high violent crime rates come from the Bronx. As a future attorney, I
would like to attack this problem legally. For this reason, I actively swapped my ride along with Ben
Cruz to intern with the Bronx Defenders. Do to their stellar reputation; I was eager to see the Bronx
Defenders approach towards helping the borough. Also, my experience of that day impressed me and
inspired me to one day potentially work for the Bronx Defenders. The Bronx Defenders impressed me
with their holistic approach and resembled the work I do with nonprofits. While at the Bronx
Defenders office, I got a firsthand look at their overarching approach to criminal defense and their
tremendous dedication to their clients. I shadowed Robyn Mar, a criminal defense attorney for the

Research Paper On Leonardo Da Aphrodite
The Louvre, located in the famous Paris, France, is home to the world s most historic and famous
pieces of art. It is a destination that I hope to experience before my life is over and I m sure a large
majority of people feel the same way. For this assignment, I choose the most famous and remembered
pieces of art known to mankind. Those would be the Mona Lisa, painted by the one and only
Leonardo di ser Piero da Vinci a.k.a Leonardo Da Vinci, and the sculpture of Aphrodite, sculpted by
Praxiteles. The Mona Lisa started in Florence roughly around 1503 and is thought to be a portrait of
Lisa Gherardini, the wife of a Florentine cloth merchant named Francesco del Giocondo, hence the
alternative and less known title, La Gioconda. However, Da ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The statue reflects the sculptural research of the late Hellenistic Period: classical in essence, with
innovatory features such as the spiral composition, the positioning in space, and the fall of the drapery
over the hips. Aphrodite, or also known as The Venus de Milo was discovered not too long ago in
1820 on the island of Melos, Milo in modern Greek, located in the south western Cyclades. The
Marquis de Rivière presented it to Louis XVIII, who donated it to the Louvre the following year and
the statue won instant and lasting fame. Essentially two blocks of marble, it is comprised of several
parts which were sculpted separately, bust, legs, left arm and foot, then fixed with vertical pegs, a
technique which was fairly common in the Greek world, especially in the Cyclades, where this work
was produced around 100 BC (Louvre). The goddess originally wore metal jewelry, a bracelet, a pair
of earrings, and a headband, of which only the fixation holes remain and the marble may have been
embellished with, obviously now faded, polychromy. Sadly, the arms were never found, leaving her in
her iconic fashion, a figure with broken

4 Ethical Issues with Enron Essay
There was a vast number of ethical issues raised in the movie Enron the Smartest Guys in the Room
but the four I am going to focus on are listed below. Art Anderson, Ken Lay and all of the other
executives did a number of unethical things which ultimately brought down Enron and affected
thousands of employees and their futures. The bottom line was that each and every one of them acted
out of greed for the almighty dollar.
1 Encouraging employees to invest and buy stock in Enron when they knew the truth about the lack of
value in the stock.
As an employee you trust in your management to make the best choices both for you and for the
business to succeed. Ken Lay and other executives strongly encouraged Enron employees to invest in

One Merrill Lynch analyst began to question the numbers and profits that were being produced by
Enron and eventually he was fired. Enron invested a lot of money with Merrill Lynch and they didn t
want Enron to stop investing so Merrill Lynch got rid of the employee who question Enron, when in
reality they should have listened to him. Merrill Lynch s decision not to listen to him showed other
employees that they better keep quiet with their opinions or their jobs would be on the line. If they
listened to him they might have lost the deal with Enron, but in the end they lost it anyway and lost
millions along with it. Merrill Lynch s main focus should have been their employees and their
investors, not solely Enron. They should have stuck to their code of conduct and followed their values.
3 Manipulated earnings.
Enron executives and accountants cooked the books and lied about the financial state of the company.
They manipulated the earnings and booked revenue that never came in. This was encouraged by Ken
Lay as long as the company was making money. Once word got out that they were disclosing this
information, their stock plummeted from $90 to $0.26 causing the corporation to file for bankruptcy.
This deception on behalf of the executives and others in the organization who hid this vastly affected
anyone who had stock in Enron as well as stock in other energy corporations. The

This paper explores three main facets of carbon dioxide: carbon dioxide as an atmospheric threat, the
production of CO2, and the solution to its negative presence. Generally speaking, these concepts are
described by the following statements, respectively: it is a danger because it affects climate change; it
is produced by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Thus, the study explores scientific insight into the aspects of carbon dioxide and reflects its spiritual
significance for responsible Christian action.
This examines the hazards, the production, and a potential solution to the looming problem of carbon
dioxide in the atmosphere. CO₂, or carbon dioxide, is a greenhouse gas that plays a significant role in
global warming. Power generation (see Figures 1 and 2) and manufacturing industries contribute to
the production of carbon dioxide. Finally an effective climate change plan should integrate emission
cuts and CCS. Releasing CO2 in the atmosphere is harmful to the environment in several ways. The
combustion of fossil fuels releases new CO₂ in the atmosphere. Fossil fuels are made of hydrocarbons.
When burned, these substances change form and enter the atmosphere as carbon based gases . The
EPA concludes that 90% of carbon gases released into the atmosphere are from the combustion of
fossil fuels. So, industrial combustion is the primary culprit of such CO₂ production (West, 2009).
Consequentially, such carbon based gases pollute the air near the earth s surface , create smog, and
increase the amounts of atmospheric greenhouse gases which contribute to global warming as
diagrammed in Figure 1 (West, 2009). Coal, for instance, does not always burn cleanly as it often
includes toxic elements (West, 2009). Thus the use of coal is hazardous for

Homeless Vs Homeless
I currently live in a city with a large and very diverse population. At one end of the city, you will see
large expensive homes with little to no violence, but on the other end, you see homes that are
deteriorating as time passes by along with gun violence almost every night. These are the places where
you see more homeless shelters and others begging for food and money. These are the people that
suffer on the streets in the cold every night while we scroll through Facebook on our comfy couch.
According to NJ.com, Hudson County was the home of 829 homeless persons in 2016, the third
largest homeless population in the state of New Jersey. While we enjoy the comfort of our home, these
unfortunate people have to live outside during subzero

Jury Themes
I particularly enjoyed this movie due to the several themes presented in it such as justice, class,
prejudice, and doubt. From the beginning, I thought that the accused would get the death penalty
because most of the jurors had inflicted prejudices which demonstrates how the jury system could be
in some ways corrupt.. However, at the end the accused was acquitted. I also liked the cast because
each of those twelve men had a different character and different perceptions. Even if the entire movie
takes place on the jury room, it was still a perfect movie due to the story and the acting of all the
actors. In addition, some funny scenes made the movie even more enjoyable and not boring. In brief, I
really liked the movie because it shows how

It s usually a brief explanation of how America went to Vietnam to fight a war against communism, but they never mention or consider the Hmong in their history. The Hmong fought along side with the Americans against the war on communism, who was trained by CIA. They are also known as America s forgotten ally . • 3. A Summary Of The Cherokee Tribe History of Traditions Overdriving Biological Patterns The Cherokee Tribe is among the more popularly known Native American tribes in the United States. They are mainly remembered for their fight against the U.S. government and the Supreme Court and their forced migration in the Trail of Tears. However, as mentioned by North Carolina Digital History and Robert Conley, because of their written language, many of their traditions and history is well known and taught in schools as an example of Native American culture (10.2 and 105). Michael D. Green and Theda Perdure introduce Cherokee history in the book, The Cherokee Removal: A Brief History with Documents. The tribe originally inhabited southeast North America in what is currently Kentucky, Tennessee, South Carolina, and into northern Georgia and Alabama 1). From 1836 to 1839 the Cherokee Tribe was forcibly and harshly removed and relocated in Oklahoma in what is known as The Trail of Tears (Green 160) Throughout all the changes the Cherokee had to undergo as they lost their traditional land and home, they were able to keep their traditions, rituals, and ceremonies and some, such as the dance and medicine use, are still practiced today. Traditions and rituals are repeated over and over, year after year. For an event to have this much significance in a society it must have been important from the time it began. As Miller Williams, a poet from 1930 2015, said, Ritual is important to us as human beings. It ties us to our ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

She works with special education students hands on and is not only looked at as an educator but a role model to these students that she has formed such close relationships with. The state of Maryland has decided to adopt a merit pay system in which teachers are paid depending on how well their students perform. Merit pay could be a detrimental cut to her pay if she continues to teach solely the special education students. The ethical dilemma is that Mrs. Miller could teach the advanced class and earn more money because those students will perform better, or Mrs. Miller can stay with the inclusion class and continue to change the lives of students like she originally intended to when becoming a teacher. Regardless of the decision that Mrs. Miller makes, someone ends up at some sort of a disadvantage, whether it be her students, herself, or her family. There are many other people to consider when making this decision. The decision she makes will reflect her morals. This ethical dilemma deals with professionalism and code of conduct. The stakeholders would include Mrs. Miller, Ms. Smith, Special Education students, Mrs. Miller s children, and the school community. In the case of an ethical dilemma, the best solution is not always clear. There are many different individuals and circumstances to consider when finding a solution. The following solutions address the dilemma Mrs. Miller faces. These include, Mrs. Miller teaches the advanced class, Mrs. Miller teachers the special education class, Mrs. Miller teaches both classes along with Ms. Smith, or that Mrs. Miller starts a petition against the merit pay system. Angelou was born in Missouri, but after her parents divorced, she was sent to live with her grandmother in Stamps, Arkansas. While in Arkansas, Angelou attended the Lafayette County Training School. The school is the setting for her essay Graduation. Angelou graduated from eighth grade at Lafayette with top honors and went on to graduate from high school. The essay can be found in Angelou s autobiography, I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings. The autobiography describes how living in the south during the Depression was a time for survival (Ball). The message of Graduation is the same; no matter what obstacles arise she will survive. Angelou deserves an A for this essay because she has strong examples of overcoming obstacles, sophisticated descriptions, and has a clear sense of purpose with strong development. Angelou s example of overcoming adversity is the strongest at the end of the essay. Something unrehearsed, unplanned, was going to happen, and we were going to be made to look bad (Angelou 26). As she is sitting there as a young girl at her graduation, she can feel the unwelcoming presence of the speaker s words and actions. Before the speaker begins his political rant of what he has brought to the white community, Angelou anticipates that the graduating class is going to be shamed. Angelou believes the speaker s words, and starts to doubt her hopes and dreams. The man s dead words fell like bricks around the auditorium and too many settled in my belly (Angelou 28). As Henry Reed starts to sing the Negro national anthem, Angelou finally senses that the words do have meaning to her. Nearly every event that Angelou mentions in her autobiography has one of two different aims. The aim she uses in this essay is how she faces obstacles, overcomes them, and ... Even though the hot scorching midday sun was beating down, he found it necessary to take a walk, calm his nerves, and gather his thoughts on issues soon to come. For many months, the king and his advisers have met in one, of many cool, damp secret chambers beneath the Citadel of Splendor to discuss the growing problems with lawless merchants outside Kelmoor Keep. For far too long the wily merchants from Verktus and Westgate have plundered the small independent cities, towns, and farm villages scattered about the lush moorlands of their goods. Instead of writing down real names, he gave everything a nickname. Therefore, if someone was able to read or stole his papers they would be completely lost, finding the writing gibberish and worthless. Thanks to his curse, he would remember them all with little thought. Rounding the corner, he saw the name Ventis, and stopped at the well guarded door that led down to the sub terrestrial chamber. He closed his eyes remembering the names and faces he spoke to while in the small city. He remembers their eyes. The soul bleeds through the eyes like mirrors splashed with a ceaseless lambent, a manifestation filled with life, and love, and happiness, and freedom. • 8. Social Darwinism And The Progressive Era 2. Already in the late 19th century, the American Federation of Labor had begun to represent a growing segment of the American population discontented with the status quo of corporate exploitation. At the onset of the 20th century however this message began to take particular weight, as evidenced by the tripling of the AFL s membership and the rise of the Industrial Workers of the World. Labor unions, the Socialist Party and progressives as a whole took issue with the doctrine of Social Darwinism and moved forward as a somewhat united front with the goal of bringing meaningful change to American society. As America made the transition into an industrial power in the latter half of the 19th century, Social Darwinism became a prevalent method of rationalizing massive inequality and widespread poverty. This doctrine of leaving the poorest in the nation to uplift themselves from abject hardship without being provided any means to do so was exemplified as the American population became increasingly concentrated in cities. Poor families would often go without electricity or indoor toilets. Staggering inequality continued into the Progressive era. It was estimated that J.P. Morgan s financial firm controlled 40 percent of all financial and industrial capital in the nation. The largest conclaves of organized labor, the Industrial Workers of the World and the American Federation of Labor, sought to tackle the stifling economic and political climate through sharply contrasting ... His subject changes with paragraphs, movie critics, Oscar nominees and watchers, readers of the article, and anyone discriminatory. The Oscar Whiteness Machine is a mix of genres but it gets its main point across, black people have been discriminated against in the Oscars, and in life, and the film business plays a role in the suppression of black culture. Analytical Analysis Of Frost At Midnight By Samuel Coleridge Analytical essay of Frost at Midnight by Samuel Coleridge People think that nature brings a sort of calmness, happiness or peace, which is why most people travel to places with beautiful sceneries, or build houses near beaches, or have a plant in their surrounding or even just a painting of a tree, flower or mountain. The importance of nature is subjective as it nature touches people in different ways. The poem Frost at Midnight, Samuel Coleridge, is a monolingual conversation between the speaker and his sleeping infant. It is written in blank verse, with little or no rhyme but in iambic pentameter. In this poem, the speaker emphasises the importance of nature by equating it to God, he also speaks about the ability of nature to create treasured memories, which he wants to use to plant himself in his child s future, therefore, he his rallying against modernization because of this. The speaker stresses the importance of nature by comparing it to God, he says that his child will be far from God because he will not be able to hear God s voice which apparently is, The lovely shapes and sounds intelligible / Of that eternal language... (65 66). I believe that this comparison is quite different as most religions such as Christianity do not equate God with earth but instead suggests that God created earth (New International Version, Gen. 1.1). This sentence makes me think that God can mean different things to different people. However, by completing Project Four, I have made great advancements in my ability to read, write, reflect, and use technology in academic writing. I have noticed that gradually my writing and comprehension have grown. Therefore, my overall experience in English 1010 was great. Professor Jeff Pruchnic is a great teacher, whom I learned I great deal from. I ve always struggled with rhetorical analysis essays in high school. In his class he made the essays seem easier than I remember and now I understand each person part. The reading objective helped me with my comprehension skills. In other words, I have developed the skills to read a text and infer what the author s purpose and meaning of the text. In class, we did various exercises as a class to help to try to find the main ideas of an article. We would pair off into groups and annotate an article that Professor Pruchnic assigns to guidelines. For example, Professor Pruchnic asked the class to annotate the article Trump Tells Pence to Leave NFL and make our annotations with the understanding that we are going to generate a response to the piece under review. After we complete our annotations, use the response templates in The Warrior Writer to create an agree disagree and agree and disagree statement about arguments or sides addressed in the article. Overall, all this practice helped me in the long run. Writing helped me get all of my thoughts down before constructing my essays. In my years at high school, I ve always needed to write my rough draft before typing it because I felted that this was a better way for me to get all the details down before I lose my train of thought. But, now there are other ways that I have met that I believe will work just as well. One of those ways was the quotes in response exercise, which we had to choose five quotes from an article and respond to them in full paragraphs. Physiological methods help people cope with the effects of stress by changing the way the body responds to it. With biofeedback the aim is to teach the client how to relax. The person learns how to regulate the symptoms of stress in real life stressful situations. There are 4 steps involved. It can give clients a greater sense of control over themselves as well which can have much longer lasting benefits. Another advantage would be that it has no side effects or harmful addictions attached etc. It is also voluntary and not invasive for example in drug treatment withdrawal symptoms may be distressing. Biofeedback can be used for an unlimited time, as it is not addictive in the way that BZ s (for example) can be (as they are only used for a maximum of four weeks to prevent this) so biofeedback is seen as more of a long term cure of stress. However, biofeedback has the drawback of being extremely costly and time consuming. It needs specialist equipment and expert supervision, although attempts have been made to produce a more accessible therapy by using cards the client would put their thumb on a card and it would measure the stress levels (stressed, tense, normal, calm) etc. Some also argue that the benefits of biofeedback can be achieved from other relaxation techniques and so it is an unnecessary expense. Another method of stress includes the psychological technique of stress inoculation training (Meichenbaum). The training was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 19. John Locke And The State Of Nature John Locke gives this very well thought out way of explaining how people are born with the right to take ownership of the fruits of the earth. Everyone comes to having a right to all the fruits of the earth because we are all born equal. That being said, everyone owns only their own person, and we are to be considered as property. Therefore if we own our own person and everything that we entail to be, we also would own our own labor and work of our hands. What makes property our own is when we work with the state of nature and everything that has been provided from God through the state of nature. We do not earn the right to ownership simply because we do more work than someone else, but because through our work we have mixed the state of nature with ourselves making it part of our property. However as there are rights to the property, there are also limitations based on how much we can use or own. As a community living together in the state of nature we must leave a fair and equally prosperous amount to our fellow people. If this limitation is not in place some people would not ever have the opportunity to own property because the strongest and the smartest would be able to tend to the land better than them. Another limitation placed on this theory is that you only have the right to own what you can tend to. This means that if you own property that you cannot properly tend to and some of the land becomes unfertile you have taken property that is not beneficial to you or ... His voice and her own startled her as if from a trance... , (88). This quote expresses the intense connection between Calixa and Alcee right from the start. As the storm picks up, and begins to beat down heavier Chopin expresses that he might as well have been in the open because the porch is not keeping him out of the weather. Chopin provides a terrible storm providing the perfect encounter to let Alcee come into Calixta s house. They continue to close up the house, and Calixta begins to worry about her husband and child. As she peers through the foggy window, lightning strikes a nearby tree, and Alcee encircles her with his arms. At this point, Chopin uses the storm to literally push her into his arms, and they give into the passion between one another. Chopin is still using the storm to provoke the story to symbolize and confirm the passion in the affair. At the climax, Chopin writes, They did not heed the crashing of the torrents, and the roar ... Prose poetry is a communicative stye that sounds natural and uses correct grammatical structure, but refrains from employing rhythmic arrangement ( Prose Examples and Definition... ). • 25. Why Men Are More Talented At Design Than Women There is no way to accurately measure the success rate of designers based on sex or sexual orientation, or, somewhat speciously, to examine if men are more talented at design than women. As Valerie Steele, the chief curator of the Museum of the Fashion Institute of Technology, said: There is no gay gene for creativity. But circumstantial evidence is making some designers wonder about the disparities. Of the young American designers most embraced by retailers and celebrated in the fashion press in recent years, the roll call is almost exclusively male: Zac Posen, Marc Jacobs, Narciso Rodriguez and Mr. Som as well as Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez of Proenza Schouler. Their female contemporaries have had a harder time breaking through, among them Behnaz Sarafpour, Alice Roi and Ms. Subkoff. Gay men stick together like a band of brothers, Ms. Subkoff said in an interview. It s more common for a man to bring up a younger assistant who is male and be proud of that, she added, whereas a woman would be threatened to promote another woman. The Council of Fashion Designers of America, a trade group that vets those who apply for membership, is made up of 121 women and 156 men. Since 1986 its annual Perry Ellis awards for young talent have been given to 8 women and 29 men (20 of them openly gay). This gives the reader a feeling of superiority as to their knowledge of Inman and his feelings. Inman is based on Frazier s great uncle. This gives them a better impression of him and a greater feeling of pity for him and his situation. The reader can tell this from Inman s only thought looking on the enemy was, Go home. This shows that even though he is fighting he wishes that he could stop and let the enemy get back to their lives. The reader realises this when Inman asks the blind man Who put out your pair of eyes. This may have come about because Inman has witnessed so many unfortunate incidents and tragedies at human hands that he has forgotten about natural causes. • 29. Four Categories Of Love George Sand claimed that, there is only one happiness in this life, to love and be loved. Humans as a species crave interaction and have a longing for love. Love a person feels can be the driving force for their actions, causing people to commit inappropriate actions and have unthinkable thoughts. However, it can also cause eternal happiness and happy endings. At a philosophic standpoint there are four different categories for love: Philia, Storge, Agape, and Eros. Philia is often translated to mean brotherly love or friendship. This can be the love a person feels for their friends, neighbors, co workers, and the people in their lives below their family. When people consider others to be friends it is often because they have shared interest or hobbies. Friends are people that a person can confide with and feel safe with. A person wants to have this feeling with someone and because of that this type of love can drive a person to actions they would not normally do. It is because of the connection they feel towards that person and the closeness they feel. It might be a shared event or story. Banana Yoshimoto wrote a novel titled, Kitchen, that involves a man and woman falling in love after a shared experience. When Yuichi s classmate came to confront Mikage about her relationship with Yuichi she claimed that, But love is not a joke, it also means sharing someone else s pain (Yoshimoto 72). What the troubled, jealous girl was saying is that loving someone involves sharing connections with a person. In this case Mikage and Yuichi shared the pain of the lose of two loved ones. Together they were able to feel each other s pain which caused their love to grow closer as the connections deepened. Yoshimoto continued the book by adding a second part to the novel that was a story all on its own. In this part of the story a young woman loses the love of her life, Hitoshi. She fell into despair and pain. At the same time as she was struggling with the lose of her best friend, another young man was losing the love of his life. Yes, I feel that Henry should come out of the closet. Ethical Principle 1 (Rights): Sexual orientation is inherent in every human being. It is something beyond our control and it wasn t Henry s choice to be homosexual. It is his basic human right to decide if he wants to come out . If he does, he should not be judged as he definitely has reasons for doing so. He is probably tired of hiding himself and what he truly is. Homosexuals are human as well. Addressing the negative impact: Since family acceptance would mean the greatest, my suggestion is to put Henry s family through counselling. By creating biofuels throughout United States, we are not only using up valuable farmlands, but we are actually becoming more dependent upon foreign oil. Throughout this article several statistics are given to show how energetically unfavorable the production of biofuels really is. Not only does the production of biofuels require huge amounts of resources like water, cropland, and chemical fertilizers, but in many cases it also consumes more net energy in fossil fuels than it produces in alternative energy resources. Some examples of biofuel production throughout the world include biomass resources, corn ethanol, grass and cellulosic ethanol, soybean biodiesel, and algae for oil production. Renewable biomass resources on planet Earth amount to nearly 92 quads or 19% of the global energy use per year. One quad is equal to 1 quadrillion or 1015 BTU s. To place this into perspective, a little over 1,000 BTU s are in a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. Passover customs between the Yemenites (Eastern Jews) and the European Jews vary in certain ways. One variation is in their musical interpretations of the Passover seder. • 36. Sonnet 130 And Hyperbole In this interpretation, I will be analyzing poetry written by Shakespeare including poetic terms and a socio historical examination of the text. For this analysis, I will be discussing Sonnet 130 and the poem All the World s a Stage. These poems by Shakespeare are both well known and very representative of his literary style and his use of contrasting literary devices to paint a vivid picture for the audience. Shakespeare is a unique and very deft user of language to tell stories that are understandable to not only audiences from his time but our own as well. In the poem All the World s a Stage, Shakespeare uses several poetic techniques to bring out existential questions in the reader s mind. These techniques include smile, imagery and hyperbole. In this poem, Shakespeare argues that the world is but a stage and men are the actors. This cynical view of the world is explained through hyperbolic language and scenes throughout a representative life of a man, as told by Shakespeare. Hyperbole is used when describing the life of the man in the story and the various actions and behaviors of this man in general. These exaggerated physical descriptions and behaviors effectively use the exaggerative qualities of hyperbole to evoke emotions of introspection and despair. I believe that Shakespeare used hyperbole in this way to cause the reader to reflect on their own life and to be more cognizant of their place in the grand scheme of things. This poetic device was likely used due to the period that this poem was written in. During this time, most people were focused on surviving and making sure they had enough to eat; rather than having the time to think about more existential and ethereal matters, such as, is this the life that I want to be living. This likely has to do with the lack of middle class opportunities for the average person during this time. This hyperbolic language is seen in line 9 And shining...like snail. Line 12 Sighing like...woeful ballad. In these two lines Shakespeare describes a young schoolboy that is disgusted with going to school. In the second line, he describes a husband mentally exhausted and sighing in a obvious and exaggerated manner likely passive aggressively. By describing the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Some consumers may not like the product at all, in which case they would be inclined to buy very little (if any) even at a low price. It s clearly seen that everyone has their own tastes or predilections and one of the captivating features of a free market economy is the latitude consumers have for expressing and indulging these predilections. With a few intriguing exceptions, such as certain drugs, consumers in free market economies are constrained only by their incomes when it comes to deciding what they will buy or reluct to buy. They are free to change their minds, a possibility advertisers appear to take quite solemnly. Another huge influence on demand is the consumer s income. A change in a consumer s income might cause a significant change in the quantities of particular goods that consumer would want to purchase at different prices. What the change might actually be is difficult to suggest, for the effect could be either positive or negative depending on how being richer or poorer affects a person s demand for a commodity like lettuce. If the relationship is positive, with the demand increasing with income, the good is said to be a normal good, and this is probably the case for most generally available commodities. If there is a negative relationship between income and the demand for a particular good, with less of it being purchased as income rises, the good would be defined as an inferior good. Another ... The bottom line was that each and every one of them acted out of greed for the almighty dollar. 1 Encouraging employees to invest and buy stock in Enron when they knew the truth about the lack of value in the stock. As an employee you trust in your management to make the best choices both for you and for the business to succeed. Ken Lay and other executives strongly encouraged Enron employees to invest in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One Merrill Lynch analyst began to question the numbers and profits that were being produced by Enron and eventually he was fired. Enron invested a lot of money with Merrill Lynch and they didn t want Enron to stop investing so Merrill Lynch got rid of the employee who question Enron, when in reality they should have listened to him. Merrill Lynch s decision not to listen to him showed other employees that they better keep quiet with their opinions or their jobs would be on the line. If they listened to him they might have lost the deal with Enron, but in the end they lost it anyway and lost millions along with it. Merrill Lynch s main focus should have been their employees and their investors, not solely Enron. They should have stuck to their code of conduct and followed their values. 3 Manipulated earnings. Enron executives and accountants cooked the books and lied about the financial state of the company. They manipulated the earnings and booked revenue that never came in. This was encouraged by Ken Lay as long as the company was making money. Once word got out that they were disclosing this information, their stock plummeted from $90 to $0.26 causing the corporation to file for bankruptcy. This deception on behalf of the executives and others in the organization who hid this vastly affected anyone who had stock in Enron as well as stock in other energy corporations. The ... • 49. Insight On Carbon Dioxide As An Atmospheric Threat Insight on Carbon Dioxide Enoch Nigatu Trinity Christian School I pledge my honor that I have neither given nor received unauthorized assistance on this work. ___________________________________ 15 October 2015 Table of Contents Abstract 3 Insight on Carbon Dioxide 4 Appendices A: Types of Sequestration 9 10 B: Realities of CCS 11 References 13 15 Abstract This paper explores three main facets of carbon dioxide: carbon dioxide as an atmospheric threat, the production of CO2, and the solution to its negative presence. Generally speaking, these concepts are described by the following statements, respectively: it is a danger because it affects climate change; it is produced by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Thus, the study explores scientific insight into the aspects of carbon dioxide and reflects its spiritual significance for responsible Christian action. This examines the hazards, the production, and a potential solution to the looming problem of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. CO₂, or carbon dioxide, is a greenhouse gas that plays a significant role in global warming. Power generation (see Figures 1 and 2) and manufacturing industries contribute to the production of carbon dioxide. Finally an effective climate change plan should integrate emission cuts and CCS. Releasing CO2 in the atmosphere is harmful to the environment in several ways. The combustion of fossil fuels releases new CO₂ in the atmosphere. Fossil fuels are made of hydrocarbons. When burned, these substances change form and enter the atmosphere as carbon based gases . The EPA concludes that 90% of carbon gases released into the atmosphere are from the combustion of fossil fuels. So, industrial combustion is the primary culprit of such CO₂ production (West, 2009). Consequentially, such carbon based gases pollute the air near the earth s surface , create smog, and increase the amounts of atmospheric greenhouse gases which contribute to global warming as diagrammed in Figure 1 (West, 2009). Coal, for instance, does not always burn cleanly as it often includes toxic elements (West, 2009). Thus the use of coal is hazardous for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 50. Homeless Vs Homeless I currently live in a city with a large and very diverse population. At one end of the city, you will see large expensive homes with little to no violence, but on the other end, you see homes that are deteriorating as time passes by along with gun violence almost every night. These are the places where you see more homeless shelters and others begging for food and money. These are the people that suffer on the streets in the cold every night while we scroll through Facebook on our comfy couch. According to NJ.com, Hudson County was the home of 829 homeless persons in 2016, the third largest homeless population in the state of New Jersey. While we enjoy the comfort of our home, these unfortunate people have to live outside during subzero ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 51. Jury Themes I particularly enjoyed this movie due to the several themes presented in it such as justice, class, prejudice, and doubt. From the beginning, I thought that the accused would get the death penalty because most of the jurors had inflicted prejudices which demonstrates how the jury system could be in some ways corrupt.. However, at the end the accused was acquitted. I also liked the cast because each of those twelve men had a different character and different perceptions. Even if the entire movie takes place on the jury room, it was still a perfect movie due to the story and the acting of all the actors. In addition, some funny scenes made the movie even more enjoyable and not boring. In brief, I really liked the movie because it shows how ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
