International Accounting Standards Board And Financial...
It all began on October 2002 where the International Accounting Standards Board and Financial
Accounting Board signed a memorandum of understanding that has come to be known as the Norwalk
Agreement . Here the two boards met and decided to make their standards fully compatible and put it
into practice and once they conquer their goal, they have to make sure it is maintained. But before I
divulge into details regarding the future and presently achieved goals of the convergence, I would like
to throw some light on the history and background of the two boards involved. International
Accounting Standards were formed between 1973 and 2001 by the board of the International
Accounting Standards Committee (IASC). On 1 April 2001, the new ... Show more content on

After the year 2001 almost 120 countries have adopted the use of IFRS. On the other hand The United
States Generally Accepted Accounting Principles have been set by the American Institute of Certified
Public Accountants (AICPA) which is subject to Securities and Exchange Commission regulations.
The AICPA first created the Committee on Accounting Procedure in 1939, and replaced that with the
Accounting Principles Board in 1959. In 1973, the Accounting Principles Board was replaced by the
Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) under the supervision of the Financial Accounting
Foundation with the Financial Accounting Standards advisory council serving to advise and provide
input on the accounting standards. Organizations such as United States Security and Exchange
Commission, Financial Accounting Standard Board, and Governmental Accounting Standards Board
influence the GAAP in the United States.
Coming back to convergence, for the past several years the IASB and IASC before 2001, have been
working to develop high quality, easy to understand, and practicable International Financial Reporting
Standards to serve investors creditors, around the world in globalized capital markets to make
investment decisions. When IASB took over from the IASC in 2001, few countries back then had
accepted and practiced International Accounting Standards. Everything changed with the

Theories of Management
Theories gave organizations a framework for knowledge and a guide to achieving their goals. The
Industrial Revolution prompted the need for better supervision of workers to boost productivity within
the automobile, steel, and coal industries. It is because of this need that the various theories of
management began to take shape. The classical management theory, which came about during the
Industrial Revolution, focused on the single best way to perform and manage tasks. This enabled
factories to operate year round and mass production of goods. But as the revolution went on, the
factories divided into separate schools of thought regarding management yet still considered it to be a
part of classical. The emphasis on manufacturing and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
robberies, burglaries, and car thefts. It is from that information that supervisors can determine the
areas that require more police presence. Most law enforcement agencies are made up of subsystems
that allow the agency to function. These subsystems, such as the Detective Bureau, Administrative
Bureau, Service Bureau, and Uniform Patrol Bureau all operate together as a whole which is what the
systems school approach to management is based on. The managers of each of the bureaus are aware
of the others function and communicate often. This is important so that the plans of one bureau do not
negatively affect those of another. When an agency joins forces, so to speak, with an outside agency it
s known as synergy. It increases the effectiveness of the cooperation. The systems approach tells
managers to keep employees focused on the objective so that overall goals can be met. The
contingency school theory is when those in management use approaches or take actions depending on
that particular situation. This theory supports suing all or parts of past theories to solve a problem.
Law enforcement utilizes this approach on a daily basis. Officers respond to calls for service in which
they are expected to rectify. They use their years of experience and training along with past incidents
of similarity and decide on what actions are necessary to take. The contingency school is based on

The significance of the Common Man in A Man For All Seasons.
==============================================================
I have decided to explore how Bolt uses the Common Man to emphasise the features of the major
characters and to illustrate the main themes of the play. I will also explore the role the common man
plays in the structure of the play and his effect on the audience.
The Common Man is the only character who speaks directly to the audience, which I think is
important as it means they can feel part of the play: there is interaction between the audience and
actors. This communication may increase the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Common Man s comments on the characters may also raise moral issues amongst the audience.
For example, the Common Man remarks on More s wilful indifference to realities. In one sense the
audience may agree with this as they may feel More does not take a very realistic approach to
government. This is illustrated in scene two, when More and Wosley are discussing the divorce, they
may feel that Thomas s ideal to govern the country by prayer is not very practical. Wosley: you d like
that wouldn t you? To govern the country by prayer? More: Yes I should
However, others may disagree with the Common Man and think that More is realistic in judgement.
For example, he ensures his family does not know any information they could be asked about in court,
to make sure they stay out of danger. Therefore the common man is significant in the sense that his
commentary has an effect on the audience: his judgements may cause the audience to ask themselves
if Thomas More deserves the title A Man For All Seasons?
Because this play deals with events that actually occurred (eg: the reformation of the church) and
people who actually lived, the common man plays a significant role in telling us the real events of the
time, which relate to the plot. For example, in Act

Highlighting the Issue of Neo-Colonialism through Media...
The Effects of Neo Colonialism as presented in Motorcycle Diaries and A Small Place Neo
Colonialism is a very powerful and controversial issue in the world today. Countries such as the
United States, Great Brittan and France still greatly profit over the countries they left as independent
years ago. This paradox is created by the mother country exerting economic and political influence on
the former colonies; allowing them to still profit from these third world countries without actually
occupying them. Neo Colonialism produces a number of effects on the subject country, the majority of
these effects being negative. The novel A Small Place and the film Motorcycle Diaries discuss the

Mesopotamia And Indus River Valley Similarities
There are many similarities and difference between The Indus River Valley and Mesopotamia Some of
these similarities/differences include the time periods in which they were in, their methods of using
the rivers, as well as the structure of their cities and governments.
The Indus River Valley civilization was created about 2500 B.C., and it was located around the south
western are of the Indus River. Their largest city was Mohenjo Daro, which is in present day Pakistan.
The Indus River Valley is surrounded by natural barriers such as the mountains nearby, and the
Arabian Sea. Their close proximity to the sea would play an important role in their development, as
well as their economic development.

there for eternity. The four main classes where Brahmins, Kshatriyas, Vaishyas, and Shudras. Each
class had specific people in it. For example, the Brahmins, the highest class, held the priests and the
King whom wrere the most revered. The second highest class, the Kshatriyas, were often warriors and
aristocrats, in short, they were the rulers under the king and the priests. The third class, the Vaishyas,
were the second closest to the bottom. This class held the cultivators (farmers), artisans, and the
merchants. These people were treated moderately well, though not as good as the Kshatriyas and the
Brahmins. The final and lowest class is the Shudras. This class was the lowest, and they were treated
like the lowest of the low. They are composed off the peasants and serfs, who were often neglected
and abused, and their rights were next to none. They were in the lowest social class possible, and they
were stuck in it forever. The people of the Indus River Valley did not believe in Law of Karma, which
means that they did not believe that a person s social class could not be changed. They were stuck in
this caste until they could leave the region and start

Using Lightweight Dynamic User Authentication Scheme
There are many popular authentication protocol schemes and some of them are as follows.
Lightweight Dynamic User Authentication Scheme In Wireless Sensor Networks the authorized users
can access and communicate with the sensor nodes. This scheme comprises of registration, login and
authentication phases. Based on the predefined period the user registers and gets access to secure data
and restarts if period expires. It states it is secure only against replay and forgery attacks. And provides
many benefits like efficiency, avoiding leakage of password, etc. Lightweight Trust Model Usage of
this scheme benefits in reducing the memory consumption and energy. And it is done by three steps
such as computing bytes, not storing the value in the transaction table, consuming 3 bits of memory
and also avoids promiscuous operation mode. Lightweight Authentication Scheme This requires
HMAC and encryption algorithms and decrease the effects of resource consumption attack. It consists
of three phases such as key predistribution phase, network initialization phase and authentication
protocol. Secured Energy Conserving Slot Based Topology Maintenance Protocol uses a symmetric
key based authentication mechanism for a sleep/wake up schedule of nodes for better energy
efficiency and increase in lifetime the network. Lightweight Key Management Scheme This reduces
the resource consumption and acts as building block for all mechanisms. It requires less key storage

Old Testament Exegetical Paper – Isaiah 62
The prophet Isaiah lived in the Southern Kingdom of Judah in the 3rd century B.C. He had a
reputation as an uncompromising prophet who did not soften his words of condemnation and urge to
make changes (Stafford 616). The nation of Judah stood in a precarious position: the wickedness of
the people, the civil war which divided the Israelites into two kingdoms of Judah and Israel, the
neighboring countries which stood by, threatening war and the dilemma that faced the leaders about
whether or not they should take on allies all indicated the downfall of the nation of Judah if the people
did not heed his words and change their ways. According to The Interpreter s Bible, Isaiah 62 was
written in the later part of the prophet Isaiah s life. By ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Most references to Zion take place in the books of Psalms, Lamentation and Isaiah. Its first
appearance is in 2 Sam 5:6 as the stronghold of Zion . G.A. Barois points out that it need not be
interpreted restrictively as a single building, but rather as the fortified crest of the hill between the
valleys (959). The name ‘Zion has been suggested by many to designate the entire walled town that
covered the southeast hill of Jerusalem. During the exile however, the whole of Judah came to be
known as Zion. ‘Zion occupies synonymous parallelism with the noun ‘Jerusalem (not just the
southeast hill) while sons of Zion and daughters of Zion implies the inhabitants of Jerusalem (Lam.
4:2, Isa. 10:32). In 1Kings 8:1,2 we read, out of the City of David which is Zion Hence we can
correctly assume that both refer to the same place, which is Jerusalem. Since my chosen passage is
about ‘Zion , it is good to be sure what exactly is being spoken about.
Now that I ve mentioned Zion the city, I d like to cover another important aspect concerning cities that
s mentioned several times in the Bible— watchmen. According to The NIV Exhaustive Concordance,
the word ‘watchmen has been used 13 times in the Old Testament (the singular form, ‘watchman ,
has been used 16 times). This word is often used figuratively in the Bible, hence it is important to
understand its particular meaning in the passage chosen. ‘Watchmen is mostly found in the books of

Descriptive Essay About My Life
I can see my short curls and round nose looking back at me in the reflection of the window while I
listen to Spanish pop. Looking out, I see hundreds of people walking past each other, from teens
dressed in jeans to adults in suits and blazers. There are nail salons, designer shoe stores, offices, all in
the midst of these massive buildings. I m on a DART train passing Downtown Dallas, on my way
home from school. A few years ago, I didn t even know about the different rails, but now I know my
way around the entire city without using Google Maps, something I m a little proud of. I ve used it to
go to work at Bed Bath Beyond, my chess tournaments, school, the mall, vegetarian restaurants, and
anything in between. The reason might be because I can t afford a car, my dad works all the time, and
my sister took my mom s car to her tiny town of San Angelo for college, but it doesn t even matter
because riding the train and running errands by myself has made me independent, plus it s eco
friendly.
At home, my mom waits for me with one of my favorite meals ready pozole. Of course I have to pick
the meat out of it, but my mom just laughs and updates me of my sister s life on living on a cow farm.
Just kidding. I still don t know why Angelo State appealed to her so much when we have grown up in
the city but, it could not be me. Although our lives are different now, I cherish my childhood as well as
the new things I experience now.

Facebook Is Becoming The Primary Means Of Communication...
Facebook s mission is to give people the power to share and make the world more open and connected
(Facebook). Since launching in 2004, Facebook has cemented itself as a worldwide phenomenon. As
of the first quarter of 2016, Facebook had 1.65 billion monthly active users, making it the biggest
social networking service based on a global reach and total active users (Statista). Individuals utilize
Facebook in various ways, including but not limited to, sharing news information, advertising, self
promotion, staying in touch with friends and relatives, following public figures, uploading photos, and
posting personal feelings. Conventional wisdom has it that Facebook is becoming the primary means
of communication and socialization, causing detriment to regular users both personally and
professionally. Unaware of the harm being caused, numerous people have developed an emotional
attachment, refuting any negative feedback pertaining to the social networking service. Although
admired and justified by many, Facebook damages people s psychological well being, diminishes
social skills, and destroys career opportunities. Facebook damages people s psychological well being
because it generates mental health issues. Facebook popularity is often judged by the number of likes
or comments someone receives from their postings and as a result, people become attached to the
attention and consequently develop a Facebook addiction. However, the negative feedback on

Abusive Relationships In The Movie
Yearly, referrals to state child protective services involve 6.6 million children, and around 3.2 million
of those children are subject to an investigated report, (). This staggering statistic illustrates the reality
of abuse in the real world. Abuse is a wide spanning idea, and it manages to manifest itself in several
different forms. Throughout Damien Chazelle s 2014 film, Whiplash, the main character trudges
through a psychologically abusive relationship with the film s antagonist. Three primary examples can
be provided to prove this relationship including Andrew, the main character, being persistent in
seeking the main drummer role, Andrew s car crash, and Andrew seeking out Fletcher after he is fired.

During this scene Fletcher invites Andrew to play in his band due to needing more people. Fletcher
informs him of the music that will be played during the performance, but he changes the selection as
Andrew prepares to begin playing on stage. This leaves Andrew without any knowledge of what
music he needs to play, and it causes him to serve as a ridiculous figure in front of many critical
musical figures in the audience. This situation is one final detail which is telling about the abusive
relationship between the two. Fletcher uses this situation as a final instance of abuse against Andrew
despite his intentions being seemingly genuine at their meeting in the music club. In this scene
Fletcher is entirely willing to throw away all of the work that Andrew has put into his career up to this
point, and that includes all of the teaching that Fletcher has abusively forced upon Andrew in an
attempt to make him great. Some might argue that this is a way of Fletcher making Andrew prove
himself, but this can t be the case if Fletcher is willing to put all of Andrew s progression on the line
without any justification or reasonable opportunity for Andrew to succeed. This scene serves as further
evidence of the abusive relationship between the two, and it ultimately serves as Chazelle s final
attempt at driving the abusive relationship that exists throughout the entire

Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a familiar childhood brain disorder and can carry
on through youth and adulthood. Signs include trouble staying alert and paying attention, difficulty
maintaining behavior, and over activity. These indications can make it hard for a child with ADHD to
be successful in school, make friends other children or adults, or finish responsibilities at home.
Children with the inattentive type of ADHD can sit in silence and do not display overt signs of mental
hyperactivity, causing parents or teachers to forget the chance of ADHD that can cause poor academic
activity and the lack of ability to follow instructions. These children are easily unfocused, having poor
organization skills, and avoid taking part in activities that require extended mental meeting. They may

Essay on Water diuresis in man
Water Diuresis in Man Practical Report
INTRODUCTION
The body needs to maintain equilibrium to function properly in everyday life. The most important
substance it must regulate is water; water is everywhere in our body and its balance is essential for
proper body function.
A very carefully regulated process is solute concentration. If there is a sudden increase in water which
enters the extracellular fluid, sodium ions will then contribute less to the extracellular solute
concentration as the ratio between water and solute has now changed. Osmolality is the amount of
solute in a kilogram, hence the osmolality in the extracellular space has also decreased.

desmopressin and exercise) differed from that in the control subjects. Explain the following (including
the underlying mechanisms):
i. why there is a delay in the onset of the diuresis after water loading in the control subject (A); ii. the
effects of administered desmopressin on the diuresis (subject B); iii. the mechanisms by which a
single session of vigorous exercise affects the diuresis produced by the water load (subject C).
After drinking water, the control and test subjects had gradual increase of urine flow, reaching a peak
then decreasing again, whereas the desmopressin subject had decreased urine flow after taking the
hormone, thereafter plateauing. According to the Dunnett s t test between the urine flow of the
subjects, the urine flow of the treatment subjects was significantly different to that of the control.
There is a delay in the onset of diuresis after loading in the control subject as it takes time for the
water to be filtered in the body. Water is absorbed from the gut into the extracellular fluid.
Osmoreceptors from the posterior pituitary detect the water through cell stretch and initiate responses
that control ADH secretion (Widmaier et al., 2014). Fluids are filtered through the kidneys and the
excess water is transported to the bladder where it will then be excreted.
Desmopressin decreases the urine volume excreted. Desmopressin is a synthetic substitute for anti
diuretic hormone (ADH). ADH

of tax burden on residents.
Alaska Not Always as Free

Mount Vesuvius
Volcanic Eruptions: 79 AD Versus the Present
ATOC 250: Natural Disasters
Term Paper
Abstract: Volcanic eruptions can be disastrous and deadly. It is, therefore, important to look back at
prior eruptions and compare them to present eruptions in order to draw conclusions on what could be
done to mitigate loss of life and destruction. The eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD on Pompeii
and surrounding areas proved to be catastrophic because of the location of the volcano and especially
since citizens were not aware that an active volcano was in their midst. By examining the series of
events that took place at Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD and comparing them to the impacts and forecasting
of present day volcanism, one could draw better conclusions ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

It consists of the older volcano, a caldera, created by the collapse of its summit and the younger
volcano, Vesuvius, which rises out inside of this caldera. (Instituto Nazionale di Geofisica
Vulcanologia, n.d.)
There was some precursory activity leading up to the climactic eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD.
The volcanic eruption of Mount Vesuvius during the discussed period is known as a Plinian eruption,
named after Pliny the Younger who was the only surviving witness of the events of 79 AD.
(Sigurdsson, 1982) A Plinian eruption is known to be hugely explosive. In 62 AD, seventeen years
prior to the eruption of Mount Vesuvius, the Bay of Naples and especially Pompeii suffered a
destructive and powerful earthquake. This earthquake is speculated to have been a sign that magma
had moved up the volcano s chamber towards the surface and fractured the edifice of Vesuvius.
(Sigurdsson, 1982)
An eyewitness from 62 AD, known as Seneca the Younger, reported tainted air responsible for killing
600 sheep. Modern day scientists speculate that this tainted air described by Seneca the Younger may
have been Carbon Dioxide released by the volcano implying new activity from within Vesuvius,
which in modern day society could have acted as a predictor of an oncoming eruption. (Surrell, 2010)
Another precursor involved a second foreshock in 64 AD. Suetonius Tranquillus and Tacitus, whom

King Henry Viii Influence On Religion
Henry the VIII has influenced the church today by making his own religion in the Catholic Church.
After Wolsey s downfall, Thomas Cromwell became Henry s chief minister and earned the confidence
of the King by helping him to break off with Rome and establish Henry the VIII as head of the Church
of England. (BBC, 2016) This profession also brought him in a lot of wealth through the dissolution of
well funded monasteries. Over four years Cromwell ordered that 800 monasteries be disbanded and
their lands and treasures taken for the crown (BBC, 2016). All the land that was sold to the gentry and
churches and monasteries were gutted and destroyed. Henry s contribution to the church started with

Examples Of Improvisation In Drama
What is improvisation and how can it be used to create drama/theatre?
Jade Sullivan Extended response
Improvisation is a foundational style which is used to create ensembles, it is the art of being in a
scene/s with no preparation. Improvisation is used to Refine theatrical pieces, create ensemble, and
extend our own creativity. It forces us react imaginatively and immediately. Improvisation is used
effectively in the examples of Augusto Boal and his Theatre of the oppressed , the French company
Theatre Du Soliel and an example from my own experience in class.
Theatre Du Soleil is a French drama company that started in the 1960 s, it employs drama as the
means of making performance and mainly uses improvisations part of the process ... Show more

Using improvisation encourages play and spontaneous exchange of ideas/ process. It can be referred to
as an extension of child s play as it stimulates offspring of child s play and it forces us to react
imaginatively to offers; like a child might do in the playground. As a class, we have explored this idea
in a game we play called Space Jump , there are many alterations to the game but the general idea is
this; one student starts miming an everyday activity and is told to freeze. A second player then
volunteers to build another scene based on the frozen position of the first player. The original space
jump then gets played backwards. This game helps us as actors develop necessary improvisation skills
such as being able to accept offers, react to others and create ensemble. Games such as these, and
improvisation in general allows you to explore your physicality and abilities to present different
characters on the spot.
To conclude, improvisation can be used to creates ensemble, explore an individuals expressive
abilities, polish Individual or group performance, and to generate ideas. In the creation of theatre,
improvisation allows you to explore different personas/ life styles, and gives you the opportunity to
see the world through another person s eyes. Through the examples of Theatre Du Soliel, Boal and my
own class experience, improvisation is shown to

The Character Analysis Of Shameless As A Dramatic Comedy
Have you ever wanted to watch a dramatic comedy, but could never find the one ? I would highly
recommend Shameless for anyone one who is having trouble finding the one . There are many
television shows that can keep anyone entertained, but Shameless has all the right factors that are
needed to be a great dramatic comedy. Shameless is a good dramatic comedy because the characters
and situations are relatable to real life, the TV show has moral teachings, and it s very suspenseful.
One of the things that makes Shameless such a great dramatic comedy is how the characters and
situations are so relatable to real life. It s important for a TV show to make the audience feel like they
re connected to the characters as they deal with their situations in each episode. There is evidence in
every season that shows the relativity between the characters and real life situations. For example, in
season 6, episode 1; Frank is currently dealing with losing a loved one, while both daughters, Fiona
and Debbie are making decisions about their pregnancy. Fiona begs for her little sister to do adoption
or abortion. Debbie doesn t quite understand how Knue 2 having a child while being fourteen, can ruin
a lot of great opportunities later. Fiona chooses to have an abortion since she cannot make enough
money to support herself or all her siblings. In addition to relatable characters and situations,
Shameless also offers moral teachings. How does a dramatic comedy offer moral teachings?
Shameless provides many examples on how drug and alcohol abuse affects a family home. There is

Tizbeth Alternate Ending
Tizbeth rushed forward and sliding on the ground so the golden, cat woman missed her, sailing over
her head. The fire pit stopped her with a crunched to her shoulder. Good girl. The voice was that of the
cat woman, but the cat s lips didn t move. It was a real compliment. Tizbeth turned to face the threat.
Good Bye. And the golden cat attacked again. Tizbeth aimed the blade at the beast s heart. The blade
deflected off the creature s chest. Tizbeth scrambled to her feet. The cat sat on its haunches and looked
at her, shook its head and knocked the knife into the fire. That isn t new. Now the golden cat sounded
like a spoiled child whose toy just broke. New. New. What did she have that was new? Forget new.

Trouble in Paradise
Scirius Kittis meets Scirius Nevile: The Evolution of a New Species
Various experiments and measurements were performed in the field in order to compare the two types
of rodents. The following is a list of the data collected through multiple observations over a span of
two years. We captured 100 rats of each rodent population, and we found the average weight, length,
hind limb, and forelimb measurements. In addition, we conducted experiments in regards to their top
speed, average height that they could leap, gestation time, and average time spent in the courtship
display.
Research Data:
St. Kitts Rodent
Weight = 83g
Length = 21.8cm
Hind limb = 7.8cm
Forelimb = 4.2cm
Speed = 2.2m/s
Average leap height = 1.4m

The species on St. Kitts also have a speed and height advantage over the Nevis population, so the
bottleneck effect is more likely to have wiped out their population since they have more favorable
traits than their counterpart. If the island underwent a catastrophe, it is likely that the rodents were
separated physically. The second factor, allopatric speciation, occurred between the two rodents
habitat. This is when a population is divided by a geographic barrier which prevents interbreeding
between the two populations. These species are found on two different islands, so the water in
between separates the two populations from interacting with one another. Due to this, both species
could have developed changes in courtship rituals, developed new traits, and undergone changes to
adapt to their environment. The final factor, behavioral isolation, occurs when two species don t
recognize one another as mating partners due to incorrect courtship rituals. Since we tried to
repopulate the St. Kitts by introducing the population from Nevis onto the island and no
success was found, behavioral isolation is very likely to have been the reason why. Our data supports
this as well since the St. Kitts rodent spends 12.6 seconds during courtship display while the Nevis
rodent spends 21.3 seconds, almost

authors can fit enough detail in a smaller space; therefore, it takes less time to read books and more
time to read other books or do other things. In conclusion, a story should have detail, cliff hangers,
detail, and a good pace. Some books can have different paces depending on the amount of detail

Why Are Wildfires Important To Society
Have you ever stopped to wonder if wildfires truly important to society? Well after doing some
research, wildfires play an important role in the natural adaptations that occur in the Earth s
ecosystem. On the NASA Earth Observatory: Global Fire Monitoring website states that The diversity
of plant and animal life in the world s forest, prairies, and wetlands in (partly) dependent on the effects
of fire; in fact some plants can not reproduce without fire . The reason why some plants are dependent
on wildfires is because the fire breaks open the outer layer of the seeds and invigorate germination.
Fires begin vital natural process for nutrients. Rain then passes the nutrients back into the soil

The Concept of Earning One s Citizenship
Citizenship is defined as a being a citizen or a person owing allegiance to and entitled to the protection
of a sovereign state. Citizen preferred for one owing allegiance to a state in which sovereign power is
retained by the people and sharing in the political rights of those people. The concept of which in one
of its earliest was given to us by the Romans, who had just began to understand the importance of a

In the 2000 presidential election 129.5 million people were eligible to vote, however of that number
only 85.5% decided it would be a good idea to vote. Unfortunately statistics on the number of people

having to choose the lesser of two evils. Are we really doing our democracy a favor by voting for the

enamored the masses? An individual that had the experience, had made the sacrifices, had the true
interest of the nation; where is he or she? To represent and lead this previously mentioned group of

their own interest or being corrupted by the decadent political machine that administers our nation.
They make decisions without weighing the cost on the nation and its peoples, having for the most part
made little if any sacrifice to obtain the position to which they have been elected. Most American

anime has drawn the attention of thousands with compelling characters and a captivating plot. My

The Power Of The Bourgeoisie
In reaction to the power the bourgeoisie have over the proletariat, the narrator uses her defense
mechanism of acting out to get power over herself back. Acting out involves preforming external
actions that mirror how one is internally feeling. This can be seen when the narrator breaks a rule in
the manual, and seeks affection from her window friend in the male shelter. As she states, Tonight, his
light isn t on and so we don t wave, but still, I undress in front of my lit window. I can t know if he s
watching from the darkness, or who else is watching, for that matter (Cook 50). By undressing in the
window, the narrator is showing the bourgeoisie that she is in control of her actions. Moreover, by
changing her physical appearance, the narrator gains more control over her body. As she states, For a
couple of weeks I allow myself a little moment. I scrape other woman s leftovers onto my plate. I eat
the treats my old floor still sends, even though I don t like them (Cook 53). By increasing her food
consumption, the narrator is making her self less desirable in the bourgeois lens; consequently limiting
her chances of getting chosen by a wealthy person. Since she is in control of her desirability, this
shows the narrators success in gaining power over her body and where she chooses to belong.
Ultimately, through her defense mechanism of acting out, the narrator gains power over her actions
and body back from the bourgeoisie. Furthermore, the narrator uses her defense

The First Transition Era ( Thomas Edison s Motion Picture...
From the early invention of Thomas Edison s motion picture camera, to the blending of sound with

The main reason for the alteration was due to the rapid advancement in technology. One of the key
factors that shapes how we perceive a movie, is its sound. Just by changing the tempo and the volume
of score, a filmmaker can make viewers have better interpretation of the movie. Through the course of
time, music has been important in movies, even in silent films. Then, in the late 1920 s, the arrival of

Due to not having the technology to sync video with dialogue sound together, the music played a
significant role in expressing the sailors; in the other words the sound of the film carried the story of

There was a lot of use of percussion instruments which created stress and tension to the silent movie.
Battleship Potemkin had a massacre scene which was called Odessa steps, where innocent mothers
and children were getting killed by the Russian soldiers; that scene had bold percussion sound which
came from the bass drums. Throughout the movie, the sound followed the actions of the characters

expressed by the orchestral music. For example, in these scene (in the morning scene, we see the
displeasure that the sailors were feeling.) There was a change of sound when a character alters their

still managed to create an ominous feeling by using loud live music and effects. Silent film is a

Harry James Motivation
As soon as 1939 when he had joined Harry James music makers, a frenzy of female fans ensued.
Connie Haines, a singer who began working with Harry James at the time, recalled the reaction of fans
after Frank s first performance with James; After the first show, the screaming started in the theater,
and those girls came backstage. There were about twenty of them... it happened, it was real, it was not

Paramount/Columbus Day Riot. Around 30,000 of Sinatra s fans, many of which were teenage girls
nicknamed bobbysoxers, lined up for his show at the Paramount Theatre in Times Square (Doyle). The
amount let in was over the safe capacity and thousands more waited outside for shows later on in the
day. However, only a few hundred would leave from the previous shows causing a frenzy to ensue
outside; over 400 people from the police department were stationed for the day s chaotic events

Love is paitent, love is kind. It does not envy it does not boast, it is not proud. 1 Corinthians 13:4 Love
is an intense feeling of deep affection for someone or something. But everyone is worth something.
Everyone has potential and no one should be treated badly due to lack of love. Everyone is beautiful.
Not speaking about the outside apperance but about whats inside. If your spouse, crush, ect., doesnt
see your worth, then they are not worth it. Helena seems to have deep feelings for Demetrius in A
Midsummer Night s Dream. She feels unworthy to have Demetrius love. Helena (Unworthy as I am)
to follow you (2.1.214) Demetrius Tempt no too much the hatred of my spirit, For I am sick when I do

Operation Merlin
not until the twentieth century that the concept of the press morphed into professional journalists
working in television, radio, publishing companies that conducted and investigated serious stories to
deliver to the public. Since then, the courts have struggled to manage the immense role of a free press
within the country for it is the emblem of a democratic, civilized and enlightened society. Because
journalists generally have access to more information than an average citizen, those with wicked
intentions and uninterrupted misdeeds tend to issue subpoenas to fight the journalists from releasing
their dirt. However, the First Amendment clearly states, Congress shall make no law [...] prohibiting

Hayes. The trial involved three journalists who witnessed first hand illegal activities but refused to
testify before grand juries to cite the information they have gained. One reporter, Paul Branzburg
published an article about the manufacturing and usage of marijuana while the other two reporters,
Paul Pappas and Earl Caldwell spent time with the Black Panthers. The ruling of the case was five to
four with Justice Byron R. White claiming, The obligation to testify is critical to the functioning of our
criminal justice system and exceptions to that duty are frowned upon (Lewis 84). On the other hand,
one of the judges Justice Lewis F. Powell Jr., suggests that there should be a balance freedom of press
and the need for testimony in criminal matters on a case by case basis (Lewis 88). Although he
supported Justice White s majority opinion, Powell provided a little more wiggle room to the reporter
s privilege (See Figure 1). (wait do you mean by wiggle room?)Ultimately, there is no reporter s
privilege that is available to the reporters that protects them from testifying any more than there is one

The Demand Theory And Theories Of Corruption
Theories of corruption generally fall under two classifications i.e. demand theories and supply
theories. Demand theory models of corruption include two approaches: resource allocation models and
the principal agent relationship models (Jain, 1998). Resource allocation models evaluate the costs of
the allocation of resources to bribe seeking activities. The model is based on the principle that bribe
seeking is one aspect of any economic activity and thus part of a firm s resources are devoted to this
pursuit (Krueger, 1974). In a competitive system, bribe seeking chances are produced either by agents
over government policy or by underlying societal features (Mauro, 1995).
Principal agent models of corruption postulate that the misuse of power by individuals/organisations,
which is driven by self interest (Shleifer Vishniv, 1993). The fundamental dilemma comes from that
agents are entrusted with authority on behalf on the principal (citizens). In a democratic state, the
elected officials and managers of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Corruption is discussed in fields as diverse as economics, political science, anthropology, sociology,
history, organization studies, international business, business ethics, psychology, and philosophy.
According to Caiden (2001, 19), anthropologists found that public officials were distinguished from
the rest of the population for their unique role in providing services and goods to the rest of the
population. These public officials are expected to possess professional integrity, and consequently
uphold the public interest. Therefore, the public officials also contribute to good governance.
Corruption is barely a problem that is exclusive to developing countries (Klitgaard, 1998:3).
Additionally, according to various researches, (Transparency International, 2011 and Kligaard 1998)
corruption is mostly rampart in Africa.

Romantic Structure Of Women In Pygmalion, By Bernard Shaw
Pygmalion, by Bernard Shaw, uses and modifies common romantic structure to enhance the depth of
its heroine, Eliza Doolittle. Like a common con artist, however, Shaw switches the bait with a jarring
look at modern sexism and the women s dependency on a man, even if she is more qualified then he.
Shaw s withdrawal from the expected conclusion of a romantic marriage reshapes critics view of
Eliza, releasing her from her expected submissive social role as a wife, and redefining her as a strong
woman. Even with her new representation, however, she is still left in a sexist society, and continues
to rely on the bachelors of Wimpole Street for financial support and advice. She goes as far as she can,
under the present circumstances, to free herself from the patriarchal society that oppresses and
ridicules her very existence.
Eliza Doolittle is introduced in Act 1 of Pygmalion as The Flower Girl (Shaw 15), a name of very low
stature within the social hierarchy of early 20th century London, England. Her lowly title speaks
volumes about her state of living in an economy where the difference between the rich and the poor is
visible. She lacks a high source of income, nor does she come from a rich family. Her father is an
alcoholic, and her stepmother an abusive guardian. Her language, as can be expected from someone of
such an upbringing, is necessitous. So, in conventional romantic format, Shaw places her and
Professor Higgins under one bus shelter on a rainy day. Higgins is

Comparing the Use of Setting in The Shawl and The...
Use of Setting in The Shawl and The Portable Phonograph
In literature, setting is often used to enhance or develop characters, provide realism, and create a mood
or atmosphere for a story (Roberts 256). Two short stories, The Shawl by Cynthia Ozick and Walter
Van Tillburg Clark s The Portable Phonograph explore victims of war in the vivid settings that the
authors have created. Although both works are vague as to geographic setting and place in time, the
authors detailed descriptions of the character s surroundings envelop the reader and lend an air of
authenticity to the tales (Kauvar 180). The Shawl and The Portable Phonograph differ in their
treatment of symbolism and characterization but their ingenious ... Show more content on

The four survivors in Clark s tale rely on an old, hand cranked phonograph to provide them with
comfort and hope. The four men listen to the strains of the nocturne in an attitude of worship , all but
the musician recalling their pasts (Roberts 263). In a world that has been destroyed by man s
mechanical ingenuity, this phonograph, a mechanical device on its own, provides three of the men
with an escape from their own hell (Magill 565).
Cynthia Ozick and Walter Van Tillburg Clark differ dramatically in their treatment of characters in
their tales. Clark has been criticized for his characters lack of depth and his tendency to stereotype the
players in his stories. As discussed in Contemporary Literary Criticism, there is no writer of equal
talent [who] is more endangered by the inability to enrich his human types (Stine 78). Instead of
focusing on expanding his characters, Clark uses them to embody and actualize his notions about the
possibly of defining self and position in the cosmos (Magill 562). In contrast to Clark, Ozick deftly
explores the psychological consequences of the setting on her characters (Kauvar XV). She delves into
the historical occurrences that shaped the [psyche] (Kauvar 180) and focuses intently on the
relationships that form between Rosa, her niece, and the child she is striving to save.
The detailed settings created by Ozick and Clark help define the themes of their stories: the tenacity of

Edgar Allan Poe Writing Style
Edgar Allan Poe s life was filled with tragedy, everybody he really loved died of tuberculosis or left
him. He constantly was rejected in his life and really never found someone who truly understood him.
Poe s mother died when he was three and his father left him, So Poe had some traumatic experiences
at a young age. Poe and his sister were later adopted by the Allen family and moved to England. Poe
later joined the military and started to write. Later he married his thirteen year old cousin who died of
tuberculosis. He then went on to marry two more women, but one left him and he died on his last wife.
Poe s life was constantly filled with death and disappointment which explains his vivid style of
writing. His traumatic life is explained through his dark writing, and the way he explains the story.
Poe s vivid writing style is constantly shown through his unique literary techniques.
One literary device Poe uses to show his vivid style is imagery. In Poe s short story The Cask of
Amontillado , he describes the antagonist (Fortunato) as he greets him, He accosted me with excessive
warmth, for he had been drinking too much. (234) Since Poe s writing is so vivid in the detail, the
imagery in this quote can almost make the reader feel how Fortunato is greeting him. The reader can
almost feel Fortunato s warmth and smell the alcohol. Poe also uses his imagery to make the reader
imagine the area he is in. In the same short story Poe describes the catacomb that he is in as,

The Last Duel by Eric Jager Essay
Story of the duel to end all duels
In the story The Last Duel by Eric Jager, fourteenth century in medieval France, a knight by the name
of Jean de Carrouges challenges a squire, Jacques Le Gris, to a duel. The reason for this trial by
combat, a court ordered duel intended by fate of God to determine the truth, was to seek vengeance for
the sake of his own honor. The wife of Jean Carrouges was the young, beautiful, good, sensible, and
modest Marguerite. She was expected to maintain a ladylike mannerism and remain loyal to her
husband. When the couple traveled to Capomensil to visit Carrouges mother in law Marguerite stayed
under her watch while Carrouges set out on a journey in desperate need of cash. While away on his

It wasn t possible for him to succeed in this crime alone, so he had to of had help from someone. His
companion in this attack was a squire by the name of Adam Louvel, who Jacques secretly summoned
after he learned of Carrouges plan to visit Paris. Louvel served under Carrouges in the Cotentin
campaign and actually knew him well. Ironically Louvel had a house in Capomesnil, where
Marguerite was staying with her mother in law. It is very possible that since Le Gris knew Carrouges
was leaving on a journey he could have traveled to Capomesnil and stayed with Louvel until his
opportunity arose when Nicole de Carrouges left the house for a short amount of time to handle
business in Saint Pierre. This is where my suspicions of Le Gris having everything planned grew
because he must have known Nicole was called away to a town six miles away, and accordingly
planned and timed when he would enter the home, how long it would take to complete the brutal
attack, and enough time to leave and form an alibi.
Jacques Le Gris was established as a man who was known for seducing women. It was rumored his
approach to Marguerite was an offer of money for sex, but she did not care for his money and wouldn
t submit herself to his will . This is when the encounter became physical because Le Gris was going to
get what he wanted wether she liked it or not. For a woman, Marguerite fought long and strong, but

Interpretive Project 2 Paul s letter to the Galatians describes (in part) how to maintain Christian liberty
and how to walk in the Spirit.
Galatians 5: 16 18 (RSV) states:
But I say, walk by the Spirit and do not gratify the desires of the flesh. For the desires of the flesh are
against the Spirit, and the desires of the Spirit are against the flesh; for these are opposed to each
other, to prevent you from doing what you would. But if you are led by the Spirit you are not under
the law.
The following illustrates the four steps of the Interpretive Journey for New Testament Letters in
Duvall and Hays Journey into God s Word: Your Guide ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
So we have the opportunity today to choose the power and freedom in Christ as opposed to slavery
through useless and destructive solutions We have escaped self deception. We realize that no amount
of works will grant us salvation. It is only through faith in Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior that we
will receive it.
Step 3: Cross the Principilizing Bridge
We find that the theological principle that people cannot achieve God s acceptance by keeping the law
or by human effort alone (symbolized by circumcision). God s grace is given as a gift This principle is
timeless. It is not geared towards any culture. It is directed at all of those who believe Christ to be our
Lord and Savior, is not time specific and is relevant to both the biblical reader as well as the
contemporary. God s law shows people their sins. So it shows people that they need to trust Jesus.
Only Jesus can free us from the punishment for our sins. And it is not enough that we cease to do evil,
but we must learn to do well. Our conversation will always be answerable to the principle which
guides and governs us.
Step 4: Grasp the text in our town
We do not live by the Law of Moses today, however, we very often live our lives as if we are in
control. We labor for money, property and prestige sometimes by any means necessary and believe
that we will gain favor in the eyes of God and our peers.

Patriarchy In Argentina During The 1900 s
During the 1900 s in Argentina, the idea of patriarchy authority clearly triumphed over any of the
romantic ideas that are not supported or based upon family, bureaucracy or religious instituted. This
idea is undeniably backed by the movie Camila directed by María Luisa Bemberg in 1984 and several
other sources in The Argentina Reader edited by Gabriela Nouzeilles and Graciela Montaldo and A
Brief History of Argentina written by Jonathan C. Brown. The suffering from the continuity of
authoritarianism, shaking politics, and patriarchy is presented during this period.
As Argentina societies went through the independence years after the war with the Spanish and
adopted a Republican style of government, the policy of patriarchy was supported by the state and
became more and more entrenched in society. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to the article Love Authority in Argentina written by professor Jesse Hingson due to the
reason listed above, the daily life of young being was affected. For lower class families, the male
heads were drafted into armies whether it s Unitarian or Federalist. For middle and elite families, the
school was viewed as not only an education system for a new generation of Argentina teaching them
math and grammar but also a propaganda for the political system to subjected these children the value
of authorities and patriotic (Hingson). Of course, this would have led to rebellious, many of this end
up with lawsuits against the parent from their own children and vice versa. An example of rebellious
youth could also be seen in the movie, Camila and Ladislao willing to throw away their family,
wealth, social status and religious belief just to be with each other, despised having to live a fugitive
life under false identities hiding from the

Examples Of Dramatic Irony In Hamlet
Dramatic Irony is evident throughout the tragic play William Shakespeare s Hamlet. In this tragedy,
dramatic irony is used to keep the audience engaged; an example is found in Act I Scene V. The ghost
of the King appears to Hamlet and reveals to him the truth of how he passed away. The country that is
Denmark believes the King had been bitten by a snake. However, in actuality, the ghost reveals to
Hamlet, his two friends, and the audience that it was Claudius, Hamlets Uncle who poisoned the old
King of Denmark and stole his throne. Throughout this incident, Shakespeare develops the character
of Hamlet and the conflict of the play. Due to the fact dramatic irony is evident in the play, it

raising a family. It is important that to have both mother and father in the home because it makes for a
stronger bond to formulate amongst the family. Having a strong bond within the family is where the

  • 2. International Accounting Standards Board And Financial... It all began on October 2002 where the International Accounting Standards Board and Financial Accounting Board signed a memorandum of understanding that has come to be known as the Norwalk Agreement . Here the two boards met and decided to make their standards fully compatible and put it into practice and once they conquer their goal, they have to make sure it is maintained. But before I divulge into details regarding the future and presently achieved goals of the convergence, I would like to throw some light on the history and background of the two boards involved. International Accounting Standards were formed between 1973 and 2001 by the board of the International Accounting Standards Committee (IASC). On 1 April 2001, the new ... The Industrial Revolution prompted the need for better supervision of workers to boost productivity within the automobile, steel, and coal industries. It is because of this need that the various theories of management began to take shape. The classical management theory, which came about during the Industrial Revolution, focused on the single best way to perform and manage tasks. This enabled factories to operate year round and mass production of goods. But as the revolution went on, the factories divided into separate schools of thought regarding management yet still considered it to be a part of classical. The emphasis on manufacturing and ... Most law enforcement agencies are made up of subsystems that allow the agency to function. These subsystems, such as the Detective Bureau, Administrative Bureau, Service Bureau, and Uniform Patrol Bureau all operate together as a whole which is what the systems school approach to management is based on. The managers of each of the bureaus are aware of the others function and communicate often. This is important so that the plans of one bureau do not negatively affect those of another. When an agency joins forces, so to speak, with an outside agency it s known as synergy. It increases the effectiveness of the cooperation. The systems approach tells managers to keep employees focused on the objective so that overall goals can be met. The contingency school theory is when those in management use approaches or take actions depending on that particular situation. This theory supports suing all or parts of past theories to solve a problem. Law enforcement utilizes this approach on a daily basis. Officers respond to calls for service in which they are expected to rectify. They use their years of experience and training along with past incidents of similarity and decide on what actions are necessary to take. The contingency school is based on ... Have decided to explore how Bolt uses the Common Man to emphasise the features of the major characters The significance of the Common Man in A Man For All Seasons. ============================================================== I have decided to explore how Bolt uses the Common Man to emphasise the features of the major characters and to illustrate the main themes of the play. I will also explore the role the common man plays in the structure of the play and his effect on the audience. The Common Man is the only character who speaks directly to the audience, which I think is important as it means they can feel part of the play: there is interaction between the audience and actors. This communication may increase the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Common Man s comments on the characters may also raise moral issues amongst the audience. For example, the Common Man remarks on More s wilful indifference to realities. In one sense the audience may agree with this as they may feel More does not take a very realistic approach to government. This is illustrated in scene two, when More and Wosley are discussing the divorce, they may feel that Thomas s ideal to govern the country by prayer is not very practical. Wosley: you d like that wouldn t you? To govern the country by prayer? More: Yes I should However, others may disagree with the Common Man and think that More is realistic in judgement. For example, he ensures his family does not know any information they could be asked about in court, to make sure they stay out of danger. Therefore the common man is significant in the sense that his commentary has an effect on the audience: his judgements may cause the audience to ask themselves if Thomas More deserves the title A Man For All Seasons? Because this play deals with events that actually occurred (eg: the reformation of the church) and people who actually lived, the common man plays a significant role in telling us the real events of the time, which relate to the plot. The name ‘Zion has been suggested by many to designate the entire walled town that covered the southeast hill of Jerusalem. During the exile however, the whole of Judah came to be known as Zion. ‘Zion occupies synonymous parallelism with the noun ‘Jerusalem (not just the southeast hill) while sons of Zion and daughters of Zion implies the inhabitants of Jerusalem (Lam. 4:2, Isa. 10:32). Fletcher uses this situation as a final instance of abuse against Andrew despite his intentions being seemingly genuine at their meeting in the music club. In this scene Fletcher is entirely willing to throw away all of the work that Andrew has put into his career up to this point, and that includes all of the teaching that Fletcher has abusively forced upon Andrew in an attempt to make him great. Some might argue that this is a way of Fletcher making Andrew prove himself, but this can t be the case if Fletcher is willing to put all of Andrew s progression on the line without any justification or reasonable opportunity for Andrew to succeed. The most important substance it must regulate is water; water is everywhere in our body and its balance is essential for proper body function. A very carefully regulated process is solute concentration. If there is a sudden increase in water which enters the extracellular fluid, sodium ions will then contribute less to the extracellular solute concentration as the ratio between water and solute has now changed. After drinking water, the control and test subjects had gradual increase of urine flow, reaching a peak then decreasing again, whereas the desmopressin subject had decreased urine flow after taking the hormone, thereafter plateauing. According to the Dunnett s t test between the urine flow of the subjects, the urine flow of the treatment subjects was significantly different to that of the control. There is a delay in the onset of diuresis after loading in the control subject as it takes time for the water to be filtered in the body. Water is absorbed from the gut into the extracellular fluid. Osmoreceptors from the posterior pituitary detect the water through cell stretch and initiate responses that control ADH secretion (Widmaier et al., 2014). Fluids are filtered through the kidneys and the excess water is transported to the bladder where it will then be excreted. Desmopressin decreases the urine volume excreted. The volcanic eruption of Mount Vesuvius during the discussed period is known as a Plinian eruption, named after Pliny the Younger who was the only surviving witness of the events of 79 AD. (Sigurdsson, 1982) A Plinian eruption is known to be hugely explosive. • 18. The Character Analysis Of Shameless As A Dramatic Comedy Have you ever wanted to watch a dramatic comedy, but could never find the one ? I would highly recommend Shameless for anyone one who is having trouble finding the one . There are many television shows that can keep anyone entertained, but Shameless has all the right factors that are needed to be a great dramatic comedy. Shameless is a good dramatic comedy because the characters and situations are relatable to real life, the TV show has moral teachings, and it s very suspenseful. One of the things that makes Shameless such a great dramatic comedy is how the characters and situations are so relatable to real life. It s important for a TV show to make the audience feel like they re connected to the characters as they deal with their situations in each episode. There is evidence in every season that shows the relativity between the characters and real life situations. For example, in season 6, episode 1; Frank is currently dealing with losing a loved one, while both daughters, Fiona and Debbie are making decisions about their pregnancy. Fiona begs for her little sister to do adoption or abortion. Debbie doesn t quite understand how Knue 2 having a child while being fourteen, can ruin a lot of great opportunities later. Fiona chooses to have an abortion since she cannot make enough money to support herself or all her siblings. In addition to relatable characters and situations, Shameless also offers moral teachings. How does a dramatic comedy offer moral teachings? Shameless provides many examples on how drug and alcohol abuse affects a family home. There is also evidence on how Shameless provides that. In season 4, episode 5; Fiona celebrates something good that has happened, but not in a correct way. She decides to buy drugs, and leave them out where her little brother, Liam, can get his hands on causing him to overdose. We captured 100 rats of each rodent population, and we found the average weight, length, hind limb, and forelimb measurements. The species on St. Kitts also have a speed and height advantage over the Nevis population, so the bottleneck effect is more likely to have wiped out their population since they have more favorable traits than their counterpart. If the island underwent a catastrophe, it is likely that the rodents were separated physically. The second factor, allopatric speciation, occurred between the two rodents habitat. This is when a population is divided by a geographic barrier which prevents interbreeding between the two populations. These species are found on two different islands, so the water in between separates the two populations from interacting with one another. Due to this, both species could have developed changes in courtship rituals, developed new traits, and undergone changes to adapt to their environment. The final factor, behavioral isolation, occurs when two species don t recognize one another as mating partners due to incorrect courtship rituals. Since we tried to repopulate the St. Kitts by introducing the population from Nevis onto the island and no success was found, behavioral isolation is very likely to have been the reason why. Our data supports this as well since the St. Kitts rodent spends 12.6 seconds during courtship display while the Nevis rodent spends 21.3 seconds, almost ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

As she states, Tonight, his light isn t on and so we don t wave, but still, I undress in front of my lit window. Powell Jr., suggests that there should be a balance freedom of press and the need for testimony in criminal matters on a case by case basis (Lewis 88). Although he supported Justice White s majority opinion, Powell provided a little more wiggle room to the reporter s privilege (See Figure 1). (wait do you mean by wiggle room?)Ultimately, there is no reporter s privilege that is available to the reporters that protects them from testifying any more than there is one to protect a private citizen from testifying. • 40. The Demand Theory And Theories Of Corruption Theories of corruption generally fall under two classifications i.e. demand theories and supply theories. Demand theory models of corruption include two approaches: resource allocation models and the principal agent relationship models (Jain, 1998). Resource allocation models evaluate the costs of the allocation of resources to bribe seeking activities. The model is based on the principle that bribe seeking is one aspect of any economic activity and thus part of a firm s resources are devoted to this pursuit (Krueger, 1974). In a competitive system, bribe seeking chances are produced either by agents over government policy or by underlying societal features (Mauro, 1995). Principal agent models of corruption postulate that the misuse of power by individuals/organisations, which is driven by self interest (Shleifer Vishniv, 1993). The fundamental dilemma comes from that agents are entrusted with authority on behalf on the principal (citizens). In a democratic state, the elected officials and managers of ... These public officials are expected to possess professional integrity, and consequently uphold the public interest. Therefore, the public officials also contribute to good governance. Corruption is barely a problem that is exclusive to developing countries (Klitgaard, 1998:3). • 41. Romantic Structure Of Women In Pygmalion, By Bernard Shaw Pygmalion, by Bernard Shaw, uses and modifies common romantic structure to enhance the depth of its heroine, Eliza Doolittle. Like a common con artist, however, Shaw switches the bait with a jarring look at modern sexism and the women s dependency on a man, even if she is more qualified then he. Shaw s withdrawal from the expected conclusion of a romantic marriage reshapes critics view of Eliza, releasing her from her expected submissive social role as a wife, and redefining her as a strong woman. Even with her new representation, however, she is still left in a sexist society, and continues to rely on the bachelors of Wimpole Street for financial support and advice. She goes as far as she can, under the present circumstances, to free herself from the patriarchal society that oppresses and ridicules her very existence. Eliza Doolittle is introduced in Act 1 of Pygmalion as The Flower Girl (Shaw 15), a name of very low stature within the social hierarchy of early 20th century London, England. Her lowly title speaks volumes about her state of living in an economy where the difference between the rich and the poor is visible. She lacks a high source of income, nor does she come from a rich family. Her father is an alcoholic, and her stepmother an abusive guardian. Her language, as can be expected from someone of such an upbringing, is necessitous. So, in conventional romantic format, Shaw places her and Professor Higgins under one bus shelter on a rainy day. Higgins is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 42. Comparing the Use of Setting in The Shawl and The... Use of Setting in The Shawl and The Portable Phonograph In literature, setting is often used to enhance or develop characters, provide realism, and create a mood or atmosphere for a story (Roberts 256). Two short stories, The Shawl by Cynthia Ozick and Walter Van Tillburg Clark s The Portable Phonograph explore victims of war in the vivid settings that the authors have created. Although both works are vague as to geographic setting and place in time, the authors detailed descriptions of the character s surroundings envelop the reader and lend an air of authenticity to the tales (Kauvar 180). The Shawl and The Portable Phonograph differ in their treatment of symbolism and characterization but their ingenious ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The four survivors in Clark s tale rely on an old, hand cranked phonograph to provide them with comfort and hope. The four men listen to the strains of the nocturne in an attitude of worship , all but the musician recalling their pasts (Roberts 263). In a world that has been destroyed by man s mechanical ingenuity, this phonograph, a mechanical device on its own, provides three of the men with an escape from their own hell (Magill 565). Cynthia Ozick and Walter Van Tillburg Clark differ dramatically in their treatment of characters in their tales. Clark has been criticized for his characters lack of depth and his tendency to stereotype the players in his stories. As discussed in Contemporary Literary Criticism, there is no writer of equal talent [who] is more endangered by the inability to enrich his human types (Stine 78). Instead of focusing on expanding his characters, Clark uses them to embody and actualize his notions about the possibly of defining self and position in the cosmos (Magill 562). In contrast to Clark, Ozick deftly explores the psychological consequences of the setting on her characters (Kauvar XV). She delves into the historical occurrences that shaped the [psyche] (Kauvar 180) and focuses intently on the relationships that form between Rosa, her niece, and the child she is striving to save. The detailed settings created by Ozick and Clark help define the themes of their stories: the tenacity of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

He constantly was rejected in his life and really never found someone who truly understood him. Poe s mother died when he was three and his father left him, So Poe had some traumatic experiences at a young age. Poe and his sister were later adopted by the Allen family and moved to England. Poe later joined the military and started to write. Later he married his thirteen year old cousin who died of tuberculosis. He then went on to marry two more women, but one left him and he died on his last wife. Poe s life was constantly filled with death and disappointment which explains his vivid style of writing. His traumatic life is explained through his dark writing, and the way he explains the story. Poe s vivid writing style is constantly shown through his unique literary techniques. One literary device Poe uses to show his vivid style is imagery. In Poe s short story The Cask of Amontillado , he describes the antagonist (Fortunato) as he greets him, He accosted me with excessive warmth, for he had been drinking too much. (234) Since Poe s writing is so vivid in the detail, the imagery in this quote can almost make the reader feel how Fortunato is greeting him. The reader can almost feel Fortunato s warmth and smell the alcohol. Poe also uses his imagery to make the reader imagine the area he is in. • 44. The Last Duel by Eric Jager Essay Story of the duel to end all duels In the story The Last Duel by Eric Jager, fourteenth century in medieval France, a knight by the name of Jean de Carrouges challenges a squire, Jacques Le Gris, to a duel. The reason for this trial by combat, a court ordered duel intended by fate of God to determine the truth, was to seek vengeance for the sake of his own honor. The wife of Jean Carrouges was the young, beautiful, good, sensible, and modest Marguerite. She was expected to maintain a ladylike mannerism and remain loyal to her husband. When the couple traveled to Capomensil to visit Carrouges mother in law Marguerite stayed under her watch while Carrouges set out on a journey in desperate need of cash. While away on his journey ... His companion in this attack was a squire by the name of Adam Louvel, who Jacques secretly summoned after he learned of Carrouges plan to visit Paris. Louvel served under Carrouges in the Cotentin campaign and actually knew him well. Ironically Louvel had a house in Capomesnil, where Marguerite was staying with her mother in law. It is very possible that since Le Gris knew Carrouges was leaving on a journey he could have traveled to Capomesnil and stayed with Louvel until his opportunity arose when Nicole de Carrouges left the house for a short amount of time to handle business in Saint Pierre. This is where my suspicions of Le Gris having everything planned grew because he must have known Nicole was called away to a town six miles away, and accordingly planned and timed when he would enter the home, how long it would take to complete the brutal attack, and enough time to leave and form an alibi. Jacques Le Gris was established as a man who was known for seducing women. It was rumored his approach to Marguerite was an offer of money for sex, but she did not care for his money and wouldn t submit herself to his will . This is when the encounter became physical because Le Gris was going to get what he wanted wether she liked it or not. For a woman, Marguerite fought long and strong, but with the muscle between a man ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Galatians 5: 16 18 (RSV) states: But I say, walk by the Spirit and do not gratify the desires of the flesh. For the desires of the flesh are against the Spirit, and the desires of the Spirit are against the flesh; for these are opposed to each other, to prevent you from doing what you would. So we have the opportunity today to choose the power and freedom in Christ as opposed to slavery through useless and destructive solutions We have escaped self deception. We realize that no amount of works will grant us salvation. It is only through faith in Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior that we will receive it. Step 3: Cross the Principilizing Bridge We find that the theological principle that people cannot achieve God s acceptance by keeping the law or by human effort alone (symbolized by circumcision). God s grace is given as a gift This principle is timeless. It is not geared towards any culture. It is directed at all of those who believe Christ to be our Lord and Savior, is not time specific and is relevant to both the biblical reader as well as the contemporary. God s law shows people their sins. So it shows people that they need to trust Jesus. Only Jesus can free us from the punishment for our sins. And it is not enough that we cease to do evil, but we must learn to do well. Our conversation will always be answerable to the principle which guides and governs us. Step 4: Grasp the text in our town We do not live by the Law of Moses today, however, we very often live our lives as if we are in control. We labor for money, property and prestige sometimes by any means necessary and believe that we will gain favor in the eyes of God and our peers. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This idea is undeniably backed by the movie Camila directed by María Luisa Bemberg in 1984 and several other sources in The Argentina Reader edited by Gabriela Nouzeilles and Graciela Montaldo and A Brief History of Argentina written by Jonathan C.
