The Reproductive Cycles Of Human Animals
During 2015, the reproductive cycles of two female, captive, Southern White Rhinoceroses
(Ceratotherium simum simum), Moesha (#1357) and Kito (#1353) at Hamilton Zoo were investigated
and analysed by non invasive faecal progesterone concentrations. These two females have had limited
reproductive success with one in a long period of acyclicity and the other with normal cycles.
Monitoring progesterone levels allows the zoo keepers at Hamilton Zoo to be able to introduce the
male Kruger (#1273) when the females are in oestrous (especially if no reproductive behaviour has
been observed, to predict pregnancies and to document reproductive health. Figure 1: Kito and her calf

The maintenance of genetically viable populations of endangered animals is the upmost concern of
zoos and aquaria around the world (Berkeley, Kirkpatrick, Schaffer, Bryant, Threlfall, 1997). The
success of captive populations is important as they can serve to repopulate the species if the wild
population becomes too endangered and serve to educate the public about the plight of the species
(Kobus, 2011; Tubbs, Hartig, Cardon, Varga, Milnes, 2012). The wild populations of rhinoceroses are
quite successful at reproducing and are increasing their population numbers, but the captive
population of Southern White Rhinoceros is not sustaining itself (Berkeley et al., 1997; Carlstead
Brown, 2005). Female s born in captivity show the appropriate

Early Sport Diversification Research
In regards to the development of young athletes, a controversial question exists; will the path of early
sport diversification or the path of early sport specialization ultimately lead to greater sport expertise
and elite performance? Specifically, what effects can each pathway have on development of a child s
physical fitness and motor coordination as well as a young athletes career development? Stakes run
high for sports with limited scholarship availability and national team sports, so, when it comes to
athletes who are identified as talented at a young age, in many cases they are pushed to specialize in
that sport early by parents with high expectations and aggressive coaches eager for success. Early
sport diversification begins with the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
al (2011) showed that significant differences existed between the two groups in the development of
their physical fitness and gross motor coordination. Initially, the data showed that boys ages 10 12 that
sampled multiple sports had significant differences in strength, speed, agility, and gross motor
coordination. There also existed a positive correlation between the number of hours spent participating
in sports per week and its effect on performance. Boys who spent more hours per week training did
significantly better on the strength, flexibility, speed, agility, cardiovascular endurance, and gross
motor coordination tests among all age groups. Advantages of this study include that it s ability to
gather data from a large population of boys from multiple age groups (6 12) and focuses on the basic
components of athletic development due to anthropometry, physical fitness, and gross motor
coordination. Unfortunately, the study failed to recognize if the children who participated in multiple
sports have better physical fitness and gross motor coordination solely due to sport sampling. It is
possible that better athletes choose to participate in more sports. Fransen et. al (2011) concluded his
study finding that early diversification may lead to slower improvement in performance than early
specialization, but spending many hours per week in multiple sports before the age of twelve exposes
children to a broad range of physical, personal, and

Jim Carrey Research Paper
I don t think human beings learn anything without desperation. Desperation is a necessary ingredient
to learning anything, or creating anything. Period. If you ain t desperate at some point, you ain t
interesting. Jim Carrey (http://www.brainyquote.com/quotes/authors/j/jim_carrey.html)
Carrey knows what it takes to be a strong actor and he worked hard to get where he is today. Carrey
was very dedicated to his career and his past holds the key to his future success.
Carrey was born in Newmarket, Ontario, Canada on January 17th, 1962 and had what was considered
a normal life. His family was stable because their father was working. But, when Carrey was the age
of 15, his father was laid off. Carrey then had to go out and support his family. Carrey was a part of a
stand up comedy club before he dropped out of school and he loved it. He just didn t realize how
much that affected him later in life. (http://www.jimcarreyonline.com/info/biography_full.html) His

Benefits And Dilemmas Of Human Twin Studies
Name: Alimotu Tomiwa Sodiq
Write an essay evaluating the benefits and dilemmas in the use of human twin studies to investigate
the causes of variation.
Twin studies are a mainstay of the nature verse nurture debate because they allow researchers to
conduct natural experiments on human beings. When researchers try to determine the relative
importance of genetics and environment with regard to a certain condition, they have a hard time
because they cannot generally get people with the same genes. This is where twin studies come in.
Twins studies are part of the method used in behaviour genetics, which includes all data that are
genetically informative. E.g. siblings, adoptees, pedigree data etc. Researchers use this method to
estimate the heritability of traits and to quantify the effect of a person s shared environment (family)
and unique environment (the individual events that shape a life) on a trait.
Basically, we have two types of twins.
1) Monozygotic twins: Monozygotic twins are also known as identical twins. These twins start their
life as one egg which is fertilized by one sperm and latter splits into two eggs much earlier in the
gestational period. These are very rare and have no link to heredity. But studies reveal that only one of
four conceptions of twins is identical. Therefore, it seems likely that any differences between twins
will have to be caused by environment rather than by genetics.
2) Dizygotic twins: Dizygotic twins are also known as fraternal

1. Introduction:
Space is made of many secrets yet to be discover, but every day we tend to move closer. However, due
to size of space we will never stop learning. For example, 50 years ago many people thought it
impossible to travel to the moon, but as time continue we realize that nothing is impossible, it just
needs time. Although, the discoveries we have made regarding to space are relative new, the ideals and
concept are not. Most of them come from people such as Galileo or even Leonardo da Vinci which
most of them are over half a century old. Moreover, Ulysses was also an idea that started way before it
was commissioned, but due to the lack of technological advances it had to be put a hold. However, it
was never forgotten. Furthermore, this paper will look at Ulysses Spacecraft, but most importantly
how Ulysses was able to study the heliosphere during its 18 year mission orbiting around the sun. In
other words, this paper will focus on how Ulysses was able to study the region of space influenced by
the Sun and its magnetic field. As well as its discoveries and the partnership between NASA and ESA
which with their collaboration made the mission

What Are Emotions and Moods? Although we don t want to obsess over definitions, before we can
proceed with our analysis, we need to clarify three terms that are closely intertwined: affect, emotions,
and moods. Affect is a generic term that covers a broad range of feelings that people experience. It s
an umbrella concept that encompasses both emotions and moods.5 Emotions are intense feelings that
are directed at someone or something.6 Moods are feelings that tend to be less intense than emotions
and that often (though not always) lack a contextual stimulus.7 Most experts believe that emotions are
more fleeting than moods.8 For example, if someone is rude to you, you ll feel angry. That intense
feeling of anger probably comes and goes fairly quickly, maybe even in a matter of seconds. When
you re in a bad mood, though, you can feel bad for several hours. Emotions are reactions to a person
(seeing a friend at work may make you feel glad) or event (dealing with a rude client may make you
feel angry). You show your emotions when you re happy about something, angry at someone, afraid of
something. 9 Moods, in contrast, aren t usually directed at a person or event. But emotions can turn
into moods when you lose focus on the event or object that started the feeling. And, by the same
token, good or bad

Relationship Between The Soviet Union And The Western Power
The association between the Soviet Union and the Western powers were prompted by a complicated
interplay of ideological, political and economical factors, this leading to the shifts in weary
cooperation and often discontented superpower rivalry as the years went on. The Soviet Union went
through different phases of relations between the Western Powers depending on their political
standings at the time. There was initial hostility between the Soviet leaders and the government of the
United States, when the Soviet was taken out of World War 1, along with the US being against their
communist based ideologies. Despite the negotiations and aid that the US provide the Soviet Union
with no diplomatic relation was created between the two until much

##rayal And Redemption In The Kite Runner And The Play...
In the novel The Kite Runner and in the play Oedipus Rex there are similar themes that compare to
each other, which gives a better understanding of their writing. Both pieces of literature have the
themes of Betrayal and Redemption. Betrayal could be defined as the failure to meet the expectations
of a relationship for one s personal gain, which is continuously approached in both writings. It is
shocking to find out that both main characters have similar decisions to make in completely different
situations. One of the most important themes in the Kite Runner is betrayal, which is a recurring event
that fills most of the novel s plot and action. Betrayal can be continuous, and in many circumstances it
was. Amir makes us believe that the act of betrayal can redundantly repeat itself because of his
personal experience with being deluded. For example, Amir feels a sense of betrayment when he is
continuously neglected by his father, Baba. Baba only view s Amir as a burden because he is nothing
like himself. Baba does not want him to be a unique character, he aspires Amir to continue his own
legacy. For example, on pages 21 22 Amir is on his way to the study when he suddenly pauses and
overhears Baba speaking to Rahim Khan, There is something missing in that boy . Rahim Khan tries
to defend Amir by insisting that he needs to find himself and that there is not anything wrong with
him. While Baba keeps dragging Amir s acceptance to the ground Amir starts to blame himself

Performance Measure Ratio And Fund Raising Ratio Essay
For the most recent year of the St. Jude Children s Research Hospital, we calculated 6 of the following
performance measure ratios. Since we must choose the Program Effectiveness Ratio and Fund Raising
Ratio plus any four of the performance measure ratios, we chose the Going Concern Ratio, Liquidity
Ratio, Efficiency Ratio, and Fund Raising Efficiency Ratio.
1. Program Effectiveness Ratio
Total Program Expenses ÷ Total Expenses
722,304,197 ÷997,401,179= 72.42%
2. Fund Raising Ratio
(Total Contributions Fund raising costs) ÷ Total contributions
(797,005,822 166,560,526) ÷ 797,005,822= 79.10%
3. Going Concern Ratio
a. Revenues÷ Expenses
602,964,477÷ 997,401,179= 60.45%
b. Unrestricted net assets ÷ Operation Expenses 2,578,631,115 ÷ 275,096,982= 9.37 months
4. Liquidity Ratio
Current Asset (cash, A/R, Inventory) ÷ Current Liabilities
169378355 ÷ 141299219=1.20
5. Efficiency
Program Expenses ÷ Number of clients served
722,304,197 ÷ 7,800 patients= $92603.10
6. Fund Raising Efficiency
Fund Raising Expenses ÷ Public Support
166,560,526 ÷983,613,887= 16.93%
The following are our discussions about each of the 6 ratios that we already calculated.
1. Program Effectiveness Ratio: for this particular ratio, we think that the ratio of 72.42% for the
Program Effectiveness Ratio is not really ineffectiveness for the St. Jude Children s Research
Hospital. However, when we first choose this nonprofit organization, we thought that the organization

Devices Should Be Taught In Schools Essay
Would the teachers of SJNCS rather have their students learn in a creative and fun way or have them
falling asleep in class? The best way and most effective way is having us the students bring our own
devices to school. We can learn and still have fun using our phones, tablets, laptops, and even kindles.
The students of St. John Neumann Catholic School should be able to bring their own devices to
school.
First of all, students can read on their devices. Using ebooks we get so much more options to choose
from ranges of academic and popular books. Having so many options we can read for A.R easily.
Every 4 weeks the students have to get 10 or more points, and sometimes it s hard finding the right
book in the school library. Also most times we can t even go to the library because it s either not open,
we have class, or we have too much to do in study to be able to go. In other words, our devices let us
have more varied book options and an easier access to books. Another way we can use our devices to
read is using our devices to read book assignments that the teachers assign. Recently, we have been
given short stories to read in our textbook, but most times these short stories are actually long. ...

We could actually save some of the school s money that is used on the ipads. By bringing our own

ipads and computers. Most kids in this generation have ipods, ipads and phones, but some do not. The
ones who don t would still be able to use computers and ipads that are provided with the school.
However, with the students bringing their devices the school can have the opportunity to be a high
tech school. With all the changes, our school can make changes in letting the students have more
responsibility with bringing their device and improving our school one step at a

Choice Blindness Essay
People are susceptible to memory alterations from misleading information to their own self reported
choices (choice blindness) as well as to events that are just seen (misinformation effect). Using these
two concepts, the authors used a combination of the misinformation paradigm (misinformation effect)
and choice blindness paradigm to examine the long term effects of choice blindness. Using an
integrative approach, the authors hypothesized the influence of other sourced information to changes
(e.g. In a previous trial, another participant said... ) in memory reports, and the inability to detect
alterations in memory reports. Overall, the authors hypothesized the development of false memories
from exposure to inaccurate memory reports.
In the first study, 186 undergraduate students watched a slideshow of a women getting her wallet
stolen, and then completed measures of a personality assessment (to fulfill cover story). Next,
participants answered ten questions relating to the slideshow (e.g. What color was the thief s jacket?).
After a 15 minute retention period, the participants received their memory reports. Three of the
responses were manipulated (misinformation items) and the other seven were not manipulated
(control). The memory reports had two experimental conditions as self sourced (personal scores
shifted) vs. other sourced (e.g. In a previous trial, another participant said... ). Within the participants,
the memory reports were either ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Animal Welfare ( Dairy Cattle ) Code Of Welfare Essay
Animal Welfare (Dairy Cattle) Code of Welfare 2014 Overview This code gives animal owner and the
person in charge of the animals guidelines of minimum standard of care and management taken when
caring for dairy cows in New Zealand. The code of welfare for dairy cows would be especially
important as the dairy industry is becoming increasingly important in New Zealand, the high demand
in dairy product would mean more farmers would have to provide adequate care and welfare for the
ever increasing dairy cows produced. This code gives the owner or the person in charge of the animals
a list of 6 minimum standards to follow whilst managing dairy cows, the minimum standards listed
includes the stockmanship, the physical environment, health, and husbandry practices. The owner or
person in charge of the cattle must follow the minimum requirements, the failure to comply to the
minimum standards may be used as evidence to prosecute under the Animal Welfare Act (1999).
Positive Attributes The code of welfare for dairy cows at part 4.4 states that cow and calves must be
able to lie down and rest for a sufficient amount of time per day to meet their behavioural needs
(Placeholder1). This is proven to an important aspect while managing dairy cows as providing an open
paddock for the cows to lie down and rest would increase the cows well being and comfort as well as
increasing production (D. B. Haley, J. Rushen, A. M. de Passillé, 2000), as opposed to cows being
housed in tie stalls

Amazon Descriptive Essay
A deep, dark blue river, lush green plants full of monkeys and birds. Warm air blowing on my face, the
smell of cool and refreshing, but fishy, water. The breathtaking beauty of the Amazon. On a large
cargo ship, though a cruise in the Amazon, we (me and my family) float down the river. The original
blue paint is wearing off. It stops at large villages to load and unload, but boats from small villages
have to pull up against the moving ship. Pink, freshwater, dolphins live in this large river (the largest
river in the world). There are mostly blind and aren t always all pink. They don t show much of their
bodies when the surface, but just enough to see their distinctive pink color and small dorsal fin. On the
cargo ship, I had seen pink dolphins, even though I had seen them before, it probably was the coolest
part of the cargo ship expedition.
We start out in Iquitos (the biggest city you can t drive to) and began to slowly wind our way up the
Amazonian river. There is plenty to see, but eventually, it is the same. We have hammocks, but we
also have a cabin to spend the nights in. Sometimes my brother and I run around the ship like all the
other native kids do. Other times we are stuck under the roof in our hammocks, reading, because of
the rain. Though the sunsets are always beautiful. One day we stop at a large town and it takes forever
to load and unload the ship. I am at the back of the ship, listening to people yelling Spanish words I

Administrative Law is the by-product of constitutional law
INTRODUCTION Administrative law is the most growing phenomenon in the field of state welfare
for today . It has become very necessary in the developed society as the relationship between the
administrative authority and the people have become very complex . In order to regulate these
relations, there is a need of law which will provide a certainty and a check to the misuse of power by
the administrative authority . The requirement of such law is fulfilled by the administrative law. So

A constitution provides a framework of principles that creates the structure and purpose of a human
organisation. A constitution is the result of historical events and personalities . Constitutional law thus,
means that part of Law which relates to the system of government of a country. It can also be defined
as those laws which regulate the structure of the principal organs of government and their relationship
with each other and with the citizen and it also determine their main functions. Constitutional law
actually forms the backbone of public law . It is that branch of public law which determines the nature
of the state, nature and structures of the government its powers, functions, division of powers among
different constitutional organs, their relationship to each other and above all the relationship between
the state and the individuals . Constitutional law makes it possible for us to act collectively by
coordinating the interest of many individuals. It also protects individuals against abuses by those to
whom we entrust power it being a sad feature of human nature that those who seek power may be
unfit to exercise it. Constitutional law concerns a struggle between rival contenders for power, the
constantly changing relationship between the different governmental institutions and limits imposed
on the government. So we can see from the above discussion that constitutional law and

Animal Testing Is Unethical And Unnecessary
Animal testing is a secret most companies don t like to share. It is a global problem that needs to be

Mongol Empire And The Mongol Tribes Essay
In the first place, the Mongols conveyed a charming pioneer, Genghiz Khan, who joined the Mongol
tribes in a dream of triumph and improvement.
The Mongolian speed, a little and to a significant degree dangerous infantry horse which could move
quickly and run deep divisions. Mongol troops were all stallion mounted and could move quickly.
The Mongol bow was somewhat composite bow which could decisively shoot a jolt more than 200

Mongol techniques focused on pace and flexibility. If a city promptly surrendered, they were tolerant,
however, if it contradicted, they were savage.
At whatever point critical, the Mongols were ready to co pick required capacity. For example, when
they anticipated that would lay assault to a city, they would rely on upon Chinese assault fashioners to

in with his environment by putting clay on his face, He rubbed the charcoal stick between the patches

Classrooms Must Access the Internet Essay
Classrooms Must Access the Internet
Times are changing. Only ten years ago, the average family could not afford a personal computer for
the home. Over the last decade, prices have fallen causing the availability of computers to rise.
Computers have made their way into almost every business and school. Functioning without them
seems somewhat difficult to most people. Schools are especially interested in investing in the
technology of tomorrow. Computer classes have been created along with typing courses to aid
students in every way possible in preparing them for the world of tomorrow. Not knowing how to use
a computer will be like not knowing how to drive a car. There are ways of getting around the absence
of a computer, but most ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Does that not make sense? Who would pass up the opportunity to actively learn, to be in control of the
keyboard and what appears next on the screen? What would be more appealing than colorful images
and text filled with links the child can control compared to written text on the chalkboard?
The amazing thing about the Internet is that it has the ability to erase all geological, languages, and
time barriers so that students continue to learn long after leaving school (Guillermo 2). The Internet
also provides instant communication with millions of users worldwide. This allows the traditional
classroom to be expanded literally across the world. Bringing the availability of the Web into the
average classroom would allow children access to text, photographs, video clips, and sound from all
over the world that might otherwise be unobtainable.
What does the Web have to offer? This is a common question among new users. The answers to this
question are vast and numerous. Teachers and students can communicate via e mail, listservs,
discussion groups and bulletin boards. Students can access everything from library catalogs to
archives. All of this can be done in comfort of home. The student can travel to Italy online and visit
the statue of David, or go to a library in Mexico

Mindfulness Meditation In Public Schools
CONCERNS
There is increased interest toward mindfulness meditation, particularly in education. A number of
school programs have emerged claiming improvements in the following areas: executive functions,
prosociality, emotional regulation, and overall wellbeing (Broderick and Frank, 2014; Flook et al.
2010; Schonert Reichl and Lawlor, 2010). Oddly, very few risks were reported in the studies. In a
systematic review of twenty four mindfulness based school interventions, overall results show
students either benefited from the interventions or gained no effect. Negligible negative effects were
reported (Zenner, Herrnleben Kurz and Walach, 2014). It is important to consider the identification
and detection of undesirable outcomes, as well ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, a Vancouver father launched a petition calling for the withdrawal of all meditation
programs from public schools alleging that such programs, imposed on children, violate their freedom
of religion (Chwartkowski, 2016). However, Canda and Furnam (as cited in Napoli et al. 2005)) claim
that the practices of mindfulness meditation, such as mindful breathing, are compatible with all
religious beliefs.
CONCLUSION
This essay has looked at the relationship between mindfulness and optimal functioning in the school
setting and used the PROSPER framework proposed by Noble and McGrath (2015), as it illustrates
effectively the many dimensions of student flourishing.
In a world of fast paced and instant communication, it is necessary to teach children and teens to stop
and be quiet, and the most propitious times to do so are in the periods of life where brain plasticity is
higher, namely, early childhood and adolescence (Galla, Kaiser Greenland and Black, 2016).
Mindfulness interventions show promise as a cost effective strategy to promote both academic success
and wellbeing in children and adolescents, as any increase in self control and executive functions,
even small, may yield bigger outcomes over the years (Moffitt et al.

Separate Peace Theme
Law and order is a synonym for peace; however often to obtain peace law and order must be broken.
Though this is true, peace is not all encompassing. Not only can peace can be found in some parts of
life and lacking in others, but peace has many types that affect each part of daily life. A Separate Peace
by John Knowles explores the relationship between external and internal peace. When external
societal peace is disrupted people become willing to commit a kind of suicide by breaking the rules in
an effort to obtain inner peace. Daily life is heavily affected by different forms of peace. External
societal peace, is the peace that is not in an individual s control. For example, war, conflicts in
relationships, and random acts of violence are $$#Break#$$ Many rules that people are forced to
follow violate their own personal values and morals. As a result, when external peace is disrupted
people decide that it is alright to add to the disruption if their values would be upheld through doing
so. The text states, Phineas didn t really dislike West Point in particular or authority in general, but just
considered authority the necessary evil against which happiness was achieved by reaction, the
backboard which returned all the insults he threw at it (11). This quote contradicts the statement that
breaking the rules can enable someone to obtain inner peace because it states that authority returns
some sort of punishment any time you break the rules. This is true, and therefore supports the idea that
breaking the rules is a kind of suicide. In some cases the suicide can be literal. For example, Phineas
insists on jumping off the tree everyday to cope with the war. Surviving the jump everyday causes him
to achieve inner peace because it is a way of getting over his fear of going to the war. This is a literal
suicide because as shown later in the book the jump from the tree is very dangerous and ultimately
killed him. Breaking the rules can also be a metaphorical suicide because even though internal peace
is being met it causes other external peace to be disrupted. According to Merriam Webster dictionary,
the definition of suicide it the act of taking one s own life voluntarily as well as the ruin of one s own
interests. Gene breaks the rules and goes to the beach with Phineas for a night. This is a metaphorical;
kind of suicide because it is against his own interests when he fails his test the next day. Overall, this
illustrates how breaking the rules leads to a kind of

Chinese Mythology
In the beginning, (according to Chinese Mythology) the heavens and earth were one. The universe was
a big black egg and after 18,000 years it split. The light part floated up and became the heaven and the
turbid matter became the earth. In heaven King Guo Xin (King in charge of Earth) hated King Fang.
He announced that whoever cut off and brought him the head of King Fang could marry his daughter,
the princess. King Guo Xin s dog, Pan Gu, heard of the news and cut off the head of King Fang then,
he brought it to King Guo Xin. King Guo Xin ordered that Pan Gu got some fresh meat, but he didn t

Prometheus, Atlas, and more. All of these titans procreated together to make gods and goddesses.
Rhea and her brother Cronus (also titans) produced to get six (out of the twelve) Olympians. Cronus

sixth child) feared that he would do the same to her last baby so her parents helped her go to Crete
where she had baby Zeus and hid him in a cave. Rhea returned home and made Cronus think he was

Forced Arranged Marriage It was a bit difficulty for me to choose a topic for this assignment as I had
many in my mind. At the end I decided to write on forced arranged marriage after I came across a
news article that one of my friends sent to me. The news article, which was published on the news
press.com, talked about how a 13 years old Florida girl was married to a man and it was not a love
marriage but an arranged marriage. The girls wedding was arranged by her parents when she was 13
years old and gave birth at the age of 14 and the father of the girl stated that he wished his daughter
was obedient (Zeitlin, 2017). The news was a bit shocking to me as it took place in America, but there

Gender Stereotypes In Nickel And Dimed
In a Low Wage World You can t judge a book by it s cover . Every day our parents tell us as children
that we cannot judge things based on the first glances that we see. However, people in our society
today have filled their heads with stereotypes in order to judge people and their abilities. And when
hiring employees, stereotypes and first glances is all an employer sees and therefore care about. In her
book, Nickel and Dimed, Barbara Ehrenreich proves that a person s race and gender have a massive
influence on the type of low wage work a person can find, due to the stereotypes that are associated
with gender and race in our society today.
Ehrenreich exploits the abuse that takes on in the workplace toward minorities, which ironically ...

job as a housekeeper. I mutter about being woefully out of practice as a waitress, but he s already on to
the uniform (Ehrenreich, 16). However, even though the author attempts to prove she would not make
a good waitress, her employer is already stubborn and thinks that she is more worthy as a server as
opposed to a housekeeper. So why did her boss make her a waitress when she clearly wanted to be a
housekeeper? Her boss made her a waitress simply, because he used stereotypes to judge the author.
Therefore, her boss only saw a white woman who was better equipped with serving skills even though
Ehrenreich believed she had better housekeeping skills. Now, sadly if a fluent English speaking
Hispanic applied to the same job, she would only be hired as a housekeeper. In fact, she would be
rejected as a waitress for the same reason that the author couldn t become a housekeeper; the of color
her skin. In today s society, when someone thinks of a hotel maid, they think of a Latin woman who
isn t fluent in English. It is this very stereotype that affects the type of job a low wage job a person
receives simply because of the color of their skin and not their personal abilities. In her book,
Ehrenreich manifests that

himself physically, which can be seen when he goes up into the tower, from the words of Herman

LTAD in Hockey
Hockey encompasses what it means to be Canadian, from the professional stage of the NHL to your
first minor hockey week we have connected the sport with such fond memories. No matter what the
sport may be most Canadians promote physical activity where it be hockey, football, soccer, rugby or
any other type of activity that celebrates living a healthy lifestyle. Even though organized hockey has
been around since the early twentieth century there has been much investigation into athletic
development in connection with the sport. Not until recently has the investigation behind combining a
proper fundamental framework for optimum sport development be utilized. We now know this model
to be the Long Term Athlete Development mode, or the LTAD. This model in it consists of seven
unique stages that ensure not only educated athletes but coaches as well to identify and prepare
accordingly for each corresponding stage. The LTAD is broken down into these steps Active Star,
FUNdamentals, Learn to Train, Train to Train, Train to Compete, Train to Win and Active for Life. In
the following investigation I plan to share my own knowledge from my own experiences playing over
twenty years of hockey from recreational community to more of an elite level. I ve also volunteered
some of my own time to coach and train athletes in hockey, I have used and been taught the LTAD
model numerous times throughout my involvement with hockey. Hopefully using some credible

Olaudah Equiano And The Abolitionist Movement
One example of a black individual who was a significant influence on the abolitionist movement was
Olaudah Equiano (also known as Gustavus Vassa) a freed slave that spoke about his terrifying life
story which helped contribute towards the end of the slave trade. Equiano was born in 1736 and
bought his freedom as a slave in 1767. Equiano began his involvement in the abolitionist movement in
the 1780 s when he published his best selling book The Interesting Narrative of the Life of Olaudah
Equiano or Gustavus Vassa, the African in 1789. At the time, many Britons thought Africans were
illiterate but Equiano proved them wrong as he could wield the English language well and learnt
several skills whilst still a slave. Furthermore, his book ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Douglass was introduced to the movement in 1841 when a man named William Coffin heard one of
his speeches at an anti slavery meeting and was so impressed with his oratorical skills that Coffin
invited him to share his story as a slave in a convention organised by the Massachusetts Anti Slavery
Society (MAS). This therefore supports my previous discussion that black people could contribute to
society and live normal lives without white people diminishing their human rights and privileges and
making them slaves.
Douglass got his passion to promote freedom for all slaves after he escaped from slavery and
ultimately had an end goal to abolish slavery in all its forms and aspects, and promote the moral and
intellectual improvement of the coloured people and hasten the day of freedom to the three million of
enslaved fellow countrymen . He also wrote several autobiographies describing his experiences as a
slave. One of the autobiographies in particular, Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass, an
American Slave published in 1845 was a best selling and was extremely influential for promoting the
cause of abolition. The narrative shows a compelling argument to basic human rights thus making it
extremely influential as the narrative clearly possesses features and linguistic skills, which for most
white people, negated their common perception of black people being illiterate in the 19th century.

Just War Theory Essay
Just War Theory
Price reduced due to problems with format
One of the perennial realities of human existence is war. From the earliest recorded events of human
history all the way through to modern times, human communities have engaged in armed conflict as a
method of dispute resolution. While war has been a constant part of the human experience, there has
also been a tendency within virtually all human civilisations to limit the extent of war and the methods
by which warfare may be conducted.(1) In Western civilisation, this limitation on warfare has taken
shape as an effort to limit both the determination of when war is appropriate and the means used in
battle.(2) Within the Western moral, legal, and political arena, the connected ... Show more content on

Understanding, then, that the theory of just war is one in which many sources mingle over the course
of centuries, it is helpful to make a brief overview of those sources before delving into the main task
of explaining just war theory. B. MAIN SOURCES OF JUST WAR THEORY 1. The Religious
Sources of Just War Theory Many of the key thinkers who have expounded on just war theory through
the centuries have identified themselves with the Christian faith, both in its Catholic and Protestant
varieties. Just war theory has also gained a general acceptance among Christian theologians,
philosophers, and jurists as a method of passing judgement on the morality or immorality of a
particular conflict.(8) The general Christian conception of just war theory forms the core of secular
just war theory and as such has had a tremendous influence on the secular conception of the just war.
(9) Early Christian approaches to war were largely pacifistic in nature, due to a focus in the early
Church to the notion that Christians were distinct from the rest of society.(10) However, with the
growing Christianization of the Roman Empire, and the increasing political and social influence of the
Christian Church, Christian theologians during the fourth and fifth centuries began to develop
justifications for the use of force which would eventually take

recommend releasing Oxyglobin to the market as soon as possible. Situation Analysis: There has been

Hemopure to be released at a higher estimated price as $600 per unit. As per my analysis this should
not be a major concern as the advantages of releasing outweighs this concern. Here are the reasons

The Humantery And The Characters Of The Flaws Of Humankind
Flaws of Humankind Today, many people are fortunate enough to influence the government, but what
if that privilege was revoked? In The Lottery , the characters are deprived of the ability to voice their
ideas; because of this, the villagers become stuck carrying out an outdated tradition. By looking at the
mindset of the characters in The Lottery one can see that change and freedom of speech are not
accepted which is significant because Shirley Jackson alludes to the result of forcing social
conformity, which is the inability to correct immoral social norms. Though tradition is known to stay
the same, the natural diversity occurring in civilization makes change inevitable. Despite this
observation Jackson portrays how humans tend to stick to routine. In the town square after Tessie wins
the lottery, the narrator comments, Although the villagers had forgotten the ritual and lost the original
box, they still remembered to use stones (Jackson 6). Characters refuse to stop a tradition even though
it no longer yields significance to them. This is because some remain set in their own ways and are
trained to perceive change with a negative tone even if it is truly for the better. After Mr. Summers
calls his name, Warner says to the crowd gathered in the town square, Seventy seventh year I been in
the lottery... seventy seventh time (Jackson 4). Through this statement, he implies that society and its
habits should not be changed. This man, who ironically has never been the

The Effect Of Concentration On The Rate Of Reaction By...
The hypothesis of this experiment was that an increase in concentration will increase the rate of
reaction by decreasing the time taken for the colour change to occur. Figure 1.1 shows time on the x
axis and concentration on the y axis, it can be seen that as [reactant] decreases, time increases. Thus,
the results correlate with the hypothesis that an increase in concentration will produce a faster reaction
time and subsequently a larger reaction rate regardless of change in [KIO3] or [Na2S2O5], both
reactants produce the same result.
The second part of the hypothesis was that an increase in [B] and decrease in [A] will still increase the
overall rate of reaction, however it will cause a slow spread of colour compared to a rapid colour
change. This wasn t specifically recorded by timing, however, it was noted on the 9/5/16 that when
lower concentrations of KIO3 were tested, there was a slow spread of colour. On the 13/5/16, when
testing Na2S2O5, there was no vast change in colour spread time. Though, all the concentrations
tested of Na2S2O5 were fairly similar. If, for example, 1M Na2s2O5 was tested against 0.1M KIO3,
the reaction would definitely occur quickly, however, the spread of colour could be slow since a large
quantity of I2 has been used up to cancel the significantly larger amount of HSO3 ions. For what has
been observed, the second part of the hypothesis is plausible. Though, this is an area of investigation
which needs to be further investigated to be

Oral Health Among Korean Older Adults
Title: Using CBPR Methods to Address Oral Health among Korean Older Adults

policy for New York City home delivered meal recipients in New York City (NYC). The proposed
research will focus on working with the Korean community in NYC to understand oral health needs

community to address oral health among a particularly vulnerable subset of the Korean community
older adults who may have significant medical, cognitive and functional co morbidities, and who may
find it difficult to navigate the oral and health care systems due to challenges associated with
language, transportation and culture. By working with KCS, we hope to improve the visibility of oral
health in the Korean community, and to leverage the potential of the collaboration to address oral
health in other Korean groups e.g. children and family. CBPR methods are an effective way to achieve
this goal because they require working closely with KCS, the community partner, and seek to enhance
the capacity of the community, thus enhancing the potential sustainability of future intervention
programs. The proposed research can potentially impact approximately 5000 Korean seniors through
KCS.

The Addict By Michael Stein
Introduction
The non fictional novel The Addict offers a current perspective through the author s eyes, Michael
Stein, into the trials and tribulations that one has to go through when being an opiate addict. The
processes that addicts go through becomes instantly examinable, offering insight into how individuals
become addicted and what they go through while trying to become rehabilitated. Lucy Fields is the
main patient described by Michael Stein in this book. Lucy is addicted to Vicodin and has been
addicted for a number of years. Despite many social stigmas associated around addicts, becoming
addicted to anything does not happen in a short amount of time. The context in which a person is
living, their socioeconomic status, their social support and perceived social support are all factors in
becoming addicted or rehabilitated. Throughout the book Michael Stein speaks about multiple patients
and refers to buprenorphine as the primary prescribed drug for opiate users, he also refers to
methadone treatment. The effectiveness of buprenorphine was shown through the book and how it is,
with the help of adequate social and medical support, a viable option with regards to treating opiate
addiction. Addiction to opiates is developing and continues to be a large problem in many countries.
Substitution for such opiates in pharmacotherapy has shown to reduce the use of illicit drugs and the
potential criminal behavior that is associated with taking opiates (Merrill J, Alterman A,

Taking a Look at Gay Marriage
To be honest, lets just say that you are super in love with your boyfriend or girlfriend, now what
would you do if someone told you that you cant be with that person because you guys are straight.
What if everyone looked down upon people that were straight because the only right way is to be gay?
Do you see what I m getting at? People these days think that its okay to tell people who they can and
cannot love. Like seriously? If you love someone you should be with them! Love is love no matter
what age or gender. We live in such a world where we live by the bible, and how we all are so
religious . Don t get me wrong i am very religious, but not to the point where I m like, You will go to
hell if you are homosexual . In all reality the bible says absolutely nothing about people being
homosexual, it never criticizes it and it never says that they will go to hell. No one should ever judge
someone for being in love. What if someone judged you for loving your significant other, or your
crush, or your dream guy/girl. Like seriously. What is wrong with our world today, we judge when in
all reality, we dont have any room to talk. People think that they can change homosexuals by sending
them to church, or having a priest come and take the demon that is inside of them, when what they are
really doing is making the person think that they cant love, then they go off and date a person like a
normal person would. Are they really happy? Are they satisfied with their life? More

The Paternity Of Maternity Leave Essay
Lately, both mothers and fathers have been requesting more time off of work after their baby has been
born to bond and spend more time with them. Most business work places have not accepted their
request and have made the desired parent of that child to come back to work as quickly as possible,
even if that time spent with their baby is more important. Paternity/Maternity leave is important and
has a tremendous amount of impact on that child and how they will act in the future, which is why that
time after birth should be extended to a set amount of time of one year. Paternity leave is the time that
a father is allowed to be away from work after the birth of his child(Paternity Leave 1). Maternity
leave is the time when a mother is allowed to be away from work after the birth of her child. Both are
equally as important. According to Gretchen Livingston, a researcher at a University, the U.S. is the
only country among 41 nations that does not mandate any paid leave for new parents(Livingston 1).
The United States, not having an exact set time, but the average amount of weeks given to the mother
or father after their baby s birth to spend time with them is 12 weeks, which is also unpaid. Businesses
need to extend the time they give to mothers and fathers after their baby is born. One of the many
problems that comes with the average of 12 weeks of not having enough time to spend with your baby
after birth is that baby then becomes unattached to everyone and often feels

Narcissism Research Paper
Introduction In this current society, an increasing number of people discuss one controversial debate
everywhere: Are younger adults more narcissistic than previous people? In fact, when people select
one side of this debate, they are supposed to know two essential questions: what is truly meaning
about narcissism? How does this debate originate from? In general, Narcissism, originated from the
Greek mythology, is used to describe the action or habit of someone s self complacence. Surprisingly,
it has a totally different explanation in psychology. As Jean M. Twenge (2006) mentioned in her article
named On Army of one: Me, Narcissism is one of the few personality traits that psychologists agree is
almost completely negative. Narcissists are overly focused on themselves and lack empathy for others,
which means they cannot see another person s perspective (para. 22). In other words, narcissistic
people, in åa psychological view, are self centered and grim rather than obsessed with self. Therefore,

America s First Black President Essay
For many years, American Presidents were viewed as being white and powerful leaders. Why were

of the color of their skin. In 2008, Barack Obama was elected President of the United States making
him the first black president ever. In this paper, I will discuss how Barack makes a change and if
America can accept him as our first black president. Barack Hussein Obama was born on August 4,

its money privately. They had raised more than $650 million itself. (H.Cooper) He also had television

The Black Art Movement And The Black Arts Movement
The Black Aesthetic is a form of cultural expression that solidified itself during the Black Arts
Movement that was meant to exemplify black pride and reformation, culture, and community. Many
works that arose out of the Black Arts Movement depicted the role and responsibilities of the black
artist. Ralph Ellison claimed in his essay, The World and the Jug that he did not want to be seen as a
Negro artist but rather just an artist. This was understandable because he wanted to be known for his
talent rather than as a figurehead for his people but since then, there has been a lot of significant
historical and cultural development to this argument. After The World and the Jug was released in
1964, we had the death of Malcolm X in 1965 which was the catalyst for the Black Arts Movement to
truly begin. Black artists became very insistent upon invoking change through their work and
expressing their blackness unapologetically and it began to show. There was a change in mindset
where these newer artists wrote about their blackness and instances occurring in black communities
simply because it was a defining part of who they were, especially as women were given a voice in the
movement and were able to incorporate a new viewpoint despite the evident hyper masculinity. Yes,
they were artists, but they were black artists. Two poems that specifically exemplify this are Poem
about My Rights and Poem about Police Violence by June Jordan. These poems are able to depict

Congress Most Influential Policy Blunder
Aside from the decision to assign the project to the DOE in the first place, Congress most influential
policy blunder was picking the Yucca Mountain site and leaving no back ups or alternatives through
the NWPAA. It was done before the DOE had even finished evaluating all of its potential sites as
Congress had tasked it through the original NWPA. This decision by Congress is what ultimately led
to reports of falsified scientific documents as the DOE was essentially forced by the NWPAA to make
due with any issues they found at Yucca or face losing the entire federal nuclear repository project.
Had the DOE been both capable of and allowed to finish its own siting of the repository it would have
likely kept the decision open until scientific ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In reality what the EPA had done was set a site specific performance standard, based on what
qualifications they knew would be compatible with Yucca instead of setting a general performance
standard based on safety and science (Ewing Hippel, 2009). This superficial performance standard
was in part responsible for the shut down of Yucca Mountain as its authenticity and scientific accuracy
came into question along with the report of falsified documents. The decision in the NWPAA to pick
Yucca Mountain without any real selection process created one of the biggest altercations between
groups and organizations interested in this policy. By picking a site in Nevada, a state with no nuclear
reactors and a strong majority opinion against the construction of a repository, Congress pitted the
entire state against the federal government and other states. Nevada residents are so opposed to the
completion of the facility, polled at 76% in 2007 (Las Vegas Review Journal), that it has become a
requirement of anyone hoping to hold federal office in the state to feel the same sentiment. Because of
this governors, senators, and representatives from Nevada all view the permanent closing of Yucca as
a priority and adamantly oppose motions that would see the facility operational. Congressmen from
Nevada try

  • 2. The Reproductive Cycles Of Human Animals During 2015, the reproductive cycles of two female, captive, Southern White Rhinoceroses (Ceratotherium simum simum), Moesha (#1357) and Kito (#1353) at Hamilton Zoo were investigated and analysed by non invasive faecal progesterone concentrations. These two females have had limited reproductive success with one in a long period of acyclicity and the other with normal cycles. Monitoring progesterone levels allows the zoo keepers at Hamilton Zoo to be able to introduce the male Kruger (#1273) when the females are in oestrous (especially if no reproductive behaviour has been observed, to predict pregnancies and to document reproductive health. Figure 1: Kito and her calf Ibuntu at Hamilton Zoo in 2010 (Source: Preston et al., 2010). The maintenance of genetically viable populations of endangered animals is the upmost concern of zoos and aquaria around the world (Berkeley, Kirkpatrick, Schaffer, Bryant, Threlfall, 1997). The success of captive populations is important as they can serve to repopulate the species if the wild population becomes too endangered and serve to educate the public about the plight of the species (Kobus, 2011; Tubbs, Hartig, Cardon, Varga, Milnes, 2012). The wild populations of rhinoceroses are quite successful at reproducing and are increasing their population numbers, but the captive population of Southern White Rhinoceros is not sustaining itself (Berkeley et al., 1997; Carlstead Brown, 2005). Female s born in captivity show the appropriate ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Early Sport Diversification Research In regards to the development of young athletes, a controversial question exists; will the path of early sport diversification or the path of early sport specialization ultimately lead to greater sport expertise and elite performance? Specifically, what effects can each pathway have on development of a child s physical fitness and motor coordination as well as a young athletes career development? Initially, the data showed that boys ages 10 12 that sampled multiple sports had significant differences in strength, speed, agility, and gross motor coordination. There also existed a positive correlation between the number of hours spent participating in sports per week and its effect on performance. Boys who spent more hours per week training did significantly better on the strength, flexibility, speed, agility, cardiovascular endurance, and gross motor coordination tests among all age groups. Advantages of this study include that it s ability to gather data from a large population of boys from multiple age groups (6 12) and focuses on the basic components of athletic development due to anthropometry, physical fitness, and gross motor coordination. Unfortunately, the study failed to recognize if the children who participated in multiple sports have better physical fitness and gross motor coordination solely due to sport sampling. It is possible that better athletes choose to participate in more sports. Fransen et. al (2011) concluded his study finding that early diversification may lead to slower improvement in performance than early specialization, but spending many hours per week in multiple sports before the age of twelve exposes children to a broad range of physical, personal, and ... • 5. Benefits And Dilemmas Of Human Twin Studies Name: Alimotu Tomiwa Sodiq Write an essay evaluating the benefits and dilemmas in the use of human twin studies to investigate the causes of variation. Twin studies are a mainstay of the nature verse nurture debate because they allow researchers to conduct natural experiments on human beings. When researchers try to determine the relative importance of genetics and environment with regard to a certain condition, they have a hard time because they cannot generally get people with the same genes. This is where twin studies come in. Twins studies are part of the method used in behaviour genetics, which includes all data that are genetically informative. E.g. siblings, adoptees, pedigree data etc. Researchers use this method to estimate the heritability of traits and to quantify the effect of a person s shared environment (family) and unique environment (the individual events that shape a life) on a trait. Basically, we have two types of twins. 1) Monozygotic twins: Monozygotic twins are also known as identical twins. These twins start their life as one egg which is fertilized by one sperm and latter splits into two eggs much earlier in the gestational period. These are very rare and have no link to heredity. But studies reveal that only one of four conceptions of twins is identical. Therefore, it seems likely that any differences between twins will have to be caused by environment rather than by genetics. 2) Dizygotic twins: Dizygotic twins are also known as fraternal ... Although we don t want to obsess over definitions, before we can proceed with our analysis, we need to clarify three terms that are closely intertwined: affect, emotions, and moods. Affect is a generic term that covers a broad range of feelings that people experience. It s an umbrella concept that encompasses both emotions and moods.5 Emotions are intense feelings that are directed at someone or something.6 Moods are feelings that tend to be less intense than emotions and that often (though not always) lack a contextual stimulus.7 Most experts believe that emotions are more fleeting than moods.8 For example, if someone is rude to you, you ll feel angry. That intense feeling of anger probably comes and goes fairly quickly, maybe even in a matter of seconds. When you re in a bad mood, though, you can feel bad for several hours. Emotions are reactions to a person (seeing a friend at work may make you feel glad) or event (dealing with a rude client may make you feel angry). You show your emotions when you re happy about something, angry at someone, afraid of something. 9 Moods, in contrast, aren t usually directed at a person or event. In the novel The Kite Runner and in the play Oedipus Rex there are similar themes that compare to each other, which gives a better understanding of their writing. Both pieces of literature have the themes of Betrayal and Redemption. Betrayal could be defined as the failure to meet the expectations of a relationship for one s personal gain, which is continuously approached in both writings. It is shocking to find out that both main characters have similar decisions to make in completely different situations. One of the most important themes in the Kite Runner is betrayal, which is a recurring event that fills most of the novel s plot and action. Betrayal can be continuous, and in many circumstances it was. Amir makes us believe that the act of betrayal can redundantly repeat itself because of his personal experience with being deluded. For example, Amir feels a sense of betrayment when he is continuously neglected by his father, Baba. Baba only view s Amir as a burden because he is nothing like himself. Baba does not want him to be a unique character, he aspires Amir to continue his own legacy. For example, on pages 21 22 Amir is on his way to the study when he suddenly pauses and overhears Baba speaking to Rahim Khan, There is something missing in that boy . The code of welfare for dairy cows would be especially important as the dairy industry is becoming increasingly important in New Zealand, the high demand in dairy product would mean more farmers would have to provide adequate care and welfare for the ever increasing dairy cows produced. The owner or person in charge of the cattle must follow the minimum requirements, the failure to comply to the minimum standards may be used as evidence to prosecute under the Animal Welfare Act (1999). Not only can peace can be found in some parts of life and lacking in others, but peace has many types that affect each part of daily life. A Separate Peace by John Knowles explores the relationship between external and internal peace. When external societal peace is disrupted people become willing to commit a kind of suicide by breaking the rules in an effort to obtain inner peace. Daily life is heavily affected by different forms of peace. External societal peace, is the peace that is not in an individual s control. As a result, when external peace is disrupted people decide that it is alright to add to the disruption if their values would be upheld through doing so. The text states, Phineas didn t really dislike West Point in particular or authority in general, but just considered authority the necessary evil against which happiness was achieved by reaction, the backboard which returned all the insults he threw at it (11). This quote contradicts the statement that breaking the rules can enable someone to obtain inner peace because it states that authority returns some sort of punishment any time you break the rules. This is true, and therefore supports the idea that breaking the rules is a kind of suicide. In some cases the suicide can be literal. For example, Phineas insists on jumping off the tree everyday to cope with the war. Surviving the jump everyday causes him to achieve inner peace because it is a way of getting over his fear of going to the war. This is a literal suicide because as shown later in the book the jump from the tree is very dangerous and ultimately killed him. Breaking the rules can also be a metaphorical suicide because even though internal peace is being met it causes other external peace to be disrupted. According to Merriam Webster dictionary, the definition of suicide it the act of taking one s own life voluntarily as well as the ruin of one s own interests. Gene breaks the rules and goes to the beach with Phineas for a night. This is a metaphorical; kind of suicide because it is against his own interests when he fails his test the next day. Overall, this illustrates how breaking the rules leads to a kind of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

At the end I decided to write on forced arranged marriage after I came across a news article that one of my friends sent to me. The news article, which was published on the news press.com, talked about how a 13 years old Florida girl was married to a man and it was not a love marriage but an arranged marriage. The girls wedding was arranged by her parents when she was 13 years old and gave birth at the age of 14 and the father of the girl stated that he wished his daughter was obedient (Zeitlin, 2017). Every day our parents tell us as children that we cannot judge things based on the first glances that we see. However, people in our society today have filled their heads with stereotypes in order to judge people and their abilities. And when hiring employees, stereotypes and first glances is all an employer sees and therefore care about. In her book, Nickel and Dimed, Barbara Ehrenreich proves that a person s race and gender have a massive influence on the type of low wage work a person can find, due to the stereotypes that are associated with gender and race in our society today. When applying to Hearthside, Ehrenreich even downgrades herself in order to attain a job as a housekeeper. I mutter about being woefully out of practice as a waitress, but he s already on to the uniform (Ehrenreich, 16). However, even though the author attempts to prove she would not make a good waitress, her employer is already stubborn and thinks that she is more worthy as a server as opposed to a housekeeper. So why did her boss make her a waitress when she clearly wanted to be a housekeeper? Her boss made her a waitress simply, because he used stereotypes to judge the author. Therefore, her boss only saw a white woman who was better equipped with serving skills even though Ehrenreich believed she had better housekeeping skills. Now, sadly if a fluent English speaking Hispanic applied to the same job, she would only be hired as a housekeeper. In fact, she would be rejected as a waitress for the same reason that the author couldn t become a housekeeper; the of color her skin. In today s society, when someone thinks of a hotel maid, they think of a Latin woman who isn t fluent in English. Equiano was born in 1736 and bought his freedom as a slave in 1767. Equiano began his involvement in the abolitionist movement in the 1780 s when he published his best selling book The Interesting Narrative of the Life of Olaudah Equiano or Gustavus Vassa, the African in 1789. This therefore supports my previous discussion that black people could contribute to society and live normal lives without white people diminishing their human rights and privileges and making them slaves. Douglass got his passion to promote freedom for all slaves after he escaped from slavery and ultimately had an end goal to abolish slavery in all its forms and aspects, and promote the moral and intellectual improvement of the coloured people and hasten the day of freedom to the three million of enslaved fellow countrymen . He also wrote several autobiographies describing his experiences as a slave. One of the autobiographies in particular, Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass, an American Slave published in 1845 was a best selling and was extremely influential for promoting the cause of abolition. From the earliest recorded events of human history all the way through to modern times, human communities have engaged in armed conflict as a method of dispute resolution. While war has been a constant part of the human experience, there has also been a tendency within virtually all human civilisations to limit the extent of war and the methods by which warfare may be conducted.(1) In Western civilisation, this limitation on warfare has taken shape as an effort to limit both the determination of when war is appropriate and the means used in battle.(2) Within the Western moral, legal, and political arena, the connected ... Just war theory has also gained a general acceptance among Christian theologians, philosophers, and jurists as a method of passing judgement on the morality or immorality of a particular conflict.(8) The general Christian conception of just war theory forms the core of secular just war theory and as such has had a tremendous influence on the secular conception of the just war. • 34. The Humantery And The Characters Of The Flaws Of Humankind Flaws of Humankind Today, many people are fortunate enough to influence the government, but what if that privilege was revoked? In The Lottery , the characters are deprived of the ability to voice their ideas; because of this, the villagers become stuck carrying out an outdated tradition. By looking at the mindset of the characters in The Lottery one can see that change and freedom of speech are not accepted which is significant because Shirley Jackson alludes to the result of forcing social conformity, which is the inability to correct immoral social norms. Though tradition is known to stay the same, the natural diversity occurring in civilization makes change inevitable. Despite this observation Jackson portrays how humans tend to stick to routine. In the town square after Tessie wins the lottery, the narrator comments, Although the villagers had forgotten the ritual and lost the original box, they still remembered to use stones (Jackson 6). Characters refuse to stop a tradition even though it no longer yields significance to them. This is because some remain set in their own ways and are trained to perceive change with a negative tone even if it is truly for the better. After Mr. Summers calls his name, Warner says to the crowd gathered in the town square, Seventy seventh year I been in the lottery... seventy seventh time (Jackson 4). The hypothesis of this experiment was that an increase in concentration will increase the rate of reaction by decreasing the time taken for the colour change to occur. Figure 1.1 shows time on the x axis and concentration on the y axis, it can be seen that as [reactant] decreases, time increases. Thus, the results correlate with the hypothesis that an increase in concentration will produce a faster reaction time and subsequently a larger reaction rate regardless of change in [KIO3] or [Na2S2O5], both reactants produce the same result. The second part of the hypothesis was that an increase in [B] and decrease in [A] will still increase the overall rate of reaction, however it will cause a slow spread of colour compared to a rapid colour change. This wasn t specifically recorded by timing, however, it was noted on the 9/5/16 that when lower concentrations of KIO3 were tested, there was a slow spread of colour. On the 13/5/16, when testing Na2S2O5, there was no vast change in colour spread time. Though, all the concentrations tested of Na2S2O5 were fairly similar. If, for example, 1M Na2s2O5 was tested against 0.1M KIO3, the reaction would definitely occur quickly, however, the spread of colour could be slow since a large quantity of I2 has been used up to cancel the significantly larger amount of HSO3 ions. For what has been observed, the second part of the hypothesis is plausible. Though, this is an area of investigation which needs to be further investigated to be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The processes that addicts go through becomes instantly examinable, offering insight into how individuals become addicted and what they go through while trying to become rehabilitated. Lucy Fields is the main patient described by Michael Stein in this book. Lucy is addicted to Vicodin and has been addicted for a number of years. Despite many social stigmas associated around addicts, becoming addicted to anything does not happen in a short amount of time. The context in which a person is living, their socioeconomic status, their social support and perceived social support are all factors in becoming addicted or rehabilitated. Throughout the book Michael Stein speaks about multiple patients and refers to buprenorphine as the primary prescribed drug for opiate users, he also refers to methadone treatment. The effectiveness of buprenorphine was shown through the book and how it is, with the help of adequate social and medical support, a viable option with regards to treating opiate addiction. Most business work places have not accepted their request and have made the desired parent of that child to come back to work as quickly as possible, even if that time spent with their baby is more important. Paternity/Maternity leave is important and has a tremendous amount of impact on that child and how they will act in the future, which is why that time after birth should be extended to a set amount of time of one year. Paternity leave is the time that a father is allowed to be away from work after the birth of his child(Paternity Leave 1). Narcissism Research Paper Introduction In this current society, an increasing number of people discuss one controversial debate everywhere: Are younger adults more narcissistic than previous people? In fact, when people select one side of this debate, they are supposed to know two essential questions: what is truly meaning about narcissism? How does this debate originate from? In general, Narcissism, originated from the Greek mythology, is used to describe the action or habit of someone s self complacence. Surprisingly, it has a totally different explanation in psychology. As Jean M. Twenge (2006) mentioned in her article named On Army of one: Me, Narcissism is one of the few personality traits that psychologists agree is almost completely negative. Narcissists are overly focused on themselves and lack empathy for others, which means they cannot see another person s perspective (para. 22). • 42. The Black Art Movement And The Black Arts Movement The Black Aesthetic is a form of cultural expression that solidified itself during the Black Arts Movement that was meant to exemplify black pride and reformation, culture, and community. Many works that arose out of the Black Arts Movement depicted the role and responsibilities of the black artist. Ralph Ellison claimed in his essay, The World and the Jug that he did not want to be seen as a Negro artist but rather just an artist. This was understandable because he wanted to be known for his talent rather than as a figurehead for his people but since then, there has been a lot of significant historical and cultural development to this argument. After The World and the Jug was released in 1964, we had the death of Malcolm X in 1965 which was the catalyst for the Black Arts Movement to truly begin. Black artists became very insistent upon invoking change through their work and expressing their blackness unapologetically and it began to show. There was a change in mindset where these newer artists wrote about their blackness and instances occurring in black communities simply because it was a defining part of who they were, especially as women were given a voice in the movement and were able to incorporate a new viewpoint despite the evident hyper masculinity. Yes, they were artists, but they were black artists. Two poems that specifically exemplify this are Poem about My Rights and Poem about Police Violence by June Jordan. It was done before the DOE had even finished evaluating all of its potential sites as Congress had tasked it through the original NWPA. This decision by Congress is what ultimately led to reports of falsified scientific documents as the DOE was essentially forced by the NWPAA to make due with any issues they found at Yucca or face losing the entire federal nuclear repository project. In reality what the EPA had done was set a site specific performance standard, based on what qualifications they knew would be compatible with Yucca instead of setting a general performance standard based on safety and science (Ewing Hippel, 2009). The decision in the NWPAA to pick Yucca Mountain without any real selection process created one of the biggest altercations between groups and organizations interested in this policy. By picking a site in Nevada, a state with no nuclear reactors and a strong majority opinion against the construction of a repository, Congress pitted the entire state against the federal government and other states.
