Criminal Court Report On Juvenile Criminal Cases
Criminal Court Report Each year in Canada, over 400,000 adult criminal cases are brought in
front of a judge. That number may seem incredibly high, but considering the amount of charges
brought against individuals daily, it really is not all that high. I had the opportunity to see a
number of different adult criminal court proceedings, from bail hearings to guilty pleas, but the
one that I m going to analyze today is the sentencing hearing of a young man who was charged
with uttering threats, breach of undertaking and two counts of breach of probation. The hearing
which I witnessed took place in the Ontario Court of Justice since the offences were processed
summarily, and the offences were not extremely serious. The Ontario Court of Justice is a trialcourt
as well as a court for pre trial hearings. It s the starting point for almost all criminal cases, and
usually the ending point as well. This court handles all preliminary hearings, first appearances and
bail hearings as well as trials and sentencing hearings. In the hierarchy of courts, the Ontario Court
of Justice is lowest and usually the only court that most offenders will see. During the hearing I
witnessed, three different offences were being dealt with. The first and most serious offence is in
section 264.1 (1)(a) in the Criminal Code of Canada which is uttering threats. The second offence
that the offender was charged with was failure to comply with conditions of undertaking, which is
section 145 (5.1) of the

The Poetry Of Christina Keats And Christina Rossetti
The Romantic Period of prose of poetry created a form that promoted the focus on the supernatural,
the natural world, and newfound interest in what was once overlooked. Born in different times and
with distinct circumstances, both John Keats and Christina Rossetti took to poetry to convey their
own ideas, shaped by this revolutionary time. Keats faced the brevity of life much more severely
and took on a more grandiose, dramatic form of romantic poetry when compared to Christina
Rossetti. However, both had a similar tone in observing the natural world and conveying the
emotion that compelled from within. The impact of the Romantic Movement can be felt as one
reads through both John Keatsand Christina Rossetti. While differences may exist, and their
portrayal is a unique experience of one s own, elements of the great Romantic time permeates
through both of these marvelous poets.
As seen throughout the Romantic Period, proper description and visualization of setting served
as crucial to the overall feel and overtone for a poem. Keats masterful composition of Bright Star
exemplifies his vivid imagery as a star is described to hang lonely in the night and personified as
forever awake with eternal lids apart . He dreams of lying on his fair love s ripening breast... to
hear her tender taken breath. Keats imagery serves to stir emotion within the reader and relate
intangible concepts to those that can be related. His depictions of severe circumstances are filled

Terrorist Attacks
Introduction Within the last year the United States has been exposed to many terrorist attacks and
threats that could or has harm the American people. The attacks range from mass shooting to
suicide bomber to truck raining over pedestrians. Not to mention, just recently on 11 December 17
there was an attempted bomber in New York; its just to show that there is no end of stoping
terrorismfrom happening, however, the American people can find a way to prevent the next
terrorist attacks or threats from happening by increase security measure and predicting the when
can the next attack through statistics calculations.
Research Question In this research paper it will identified the average number of terrorist attacks
per month in the US. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Also, the graph shows over the course of 30 months it displayed the skewness of the graph to the
right, which mean that more terrorist incident can be expected in the near future.
Figure 2
Results As a results, from the data analysts more terrorist attack are happening every year. The
average number of attack can be expected to happen is once per month, and especially during the
holiday season where the terrorist attack are more likely to increase. Furthermore, base from the
graph it look like the spring time frame is where there is a likely to none terrorist activity.
Therefore, with all the season combine together there is a positive trend of terrorist attack and that
can affect the mean and the standard deviation.
Conclusion In conclusion, the average number of terrorist incidents is about once per month in the
United States, and it s normally increase during the holiday and not so much in the spring time.
Nevertheless, with every problem that the United States face their must be a solution, therefore, an
increase of security measure is needed to protect the American people and to reduce the average
number of terrorist attack from about one per month to zero. As the new year is approaching there
is an uncertainty of when the next attack will happen, but how can the United State prepare to fend
off those attack to project its people? The answer still remains unknown and wait for the future to

Benefits Of Internships On The Middle Ages

Get What You Can Internships have been around for a very long time. Even in the medieval ages
there have been signs of internships through the process of apprenticeship. During the Middle Ages
humans did not suddenly become professional blacksmiths. Novices normally went through a
process called apprenticeship. Apprentices would study under their teacher in order to familiarize
themselves with the craft. Apprenticeships typically last three to six years. After successfully
completing this process apprentices go on to become journeymen. The procedure aids beginners in
the field of blacksmithing and helps them make the transition from novice to blacksmith.
Internships are today s version of apprenticeship and just like apprenticeships, internships help ease
students from the classroom setting into the real world workforce.
Internships are an integral part of our society. They not only benefit the trainee but also the
company she or he works for. Through this symbiotic relationship the company gains free labor and
the trainees obtain experience and knowledge. The students that go through internships turn out to
be more experienced and have greater confidence in their abilities. They tend to gain employment
faster and climb the corporate ladder swifter compared to other graduates. There does not seem to
be any risks or downsides to an unpaid internship. However, there are people who criticize unpaid
internships calling

Write An Essay On New Orleans
Hot and humid weather, hurricanes, Mississippi river, jazz, delicious food, famous vacation
place, and relatively high proportion of black people. These are all that I d heard about New
Orleans before I came to this city. A month has passed since I arrived to New Orleans, and I
experienced more than I d knew. But still, although I was aware of the fact that what I had
experienced until now are not everything about New Orleans, I was surprised when I learned
about the new aspects of New Orleans through the service work, class, and the lecture of guest
speaker. What primarily provoked me was the ambivalent situation in New Orleans. Even before
I came to Tulane, while looking around several places in New Orleans with my mother, I found
that there is a huge discrepancy between the areas. Although some areas, such as the downtown
near French quarter or the residence area of so called rich people, were seemed to be very
developed and well organized, on the other hand, other areas in the city were somewhat destroyed,
aged, and even smelled... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

the term of charter school itself in Korea, and in addition, the great disparity between the schools
and between the availability of students access to apply for better schools was surprising.
Moreover, I was bewildered to hear that some students should come all the way from the opposite
side of the school every day, spending more than an hour. Furthermore, even if they come to school,
wasting the precious time, the quality of the education they receive is not high enough some of

Similarities And Differences Between Heart Of Darkness And...
The movie Apocalypse Now is inspired by Joseph Conrad s novel Heart of Darkness. Due to this,
the majority of the film is based upon the book, in terms of plot, theme, characters, and setting. The
differences between the two works arise in the modern interpretation taken by Apocalypse Now, and
the presentation of Heart of Darknessthemes through current events. Both Apocalypse Now(AN)
and Heart of Darkness (HOD) take place within four main settings, with the same overall plot. In
HOD, these settings are Brussels, the Central Station, the steamboat on the river, and Kurtz s
compound. In AN, the initial settings are instead a meeting room with officers and a military base,
before becoming a steamboat on the river, and Kurtz s compound. The initial settings both serve the
same role: to present the main characterwith their job, and to give them the means and
transportation to complete it. Both works have the jungle as the overall and main setting. Though
set in Vietnam and the Congo respectively, both jungles are presented as dark and savage the
entryway into the unknown. In both cases, the jungle is not initially seen as dangerous it is simply
the environment, a means to an end. In AN, it is not until Chef and Willard journey into the jungle
in search of mangoes that this illusion is disrupted. The men are suddenly attacked by a tiger, and
begin a frantic rush to escape back to the boat. After the experience, several of the men promise to
stay on the boat, as the boat

Louis Zamperini Character Analysis
Life is not a bed of roses rather it is a bed of thorns. Sometimes it looks like paradise but on the
other hand it seems like a hell. It depends on human beings how they response under different
circumstances. The one human being I believe went through adversities was Louis Zamperini.
Zamperini was a POW in Japan. He went through various struggles such as being stranded in the
ocean, being tortured in a death camp, starvation; he even used his last bit of strength to save his
friends. Louis Zamperini was a man of many traits but the three that stick out to me are having
forgiveness, being a leader, and being an inspiration to many.
The definition of forgive is to stop feeling angry or resentful toward (someone) for an offense,
flaw, or mistake. Louis, in the movie, showed great examples of forgiveness to the people who
brutally tortured him. After being tortured in a Japanese death camp, Louis became determined to
forgive all of his captors. In 1950, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Louis strength in leadership helps him through his tough life. Louis Zamperini fought to save the
lives of his friends. After a near death experience, Zamperini used the last of his energy to save the
men who stood by him in the face of death. True strength is putting others needs before your own.
Louis Zamperini received harsh punishment in the camps but that didn t stop him. Losing his
dignity and freedom, Lou stood strong in his beliefs, even with being subjected to harsh
punishment. Even though he couldn t fight them physically, Louis fought his captors evil doings
any way he could. Louis Zamperini fought for his country, and he protected and tended to his
comrades needs. He pushed them to be their best. During a dance season I am one of the leaders.

Benefits Of Denying The Antecedent
What exactly is denying the Antecedent? It is a fallacy in formal logic where in a standard if/then
premise, the antecedent (what comes after the if ) is made not true, and then it is concludes that
the consequent (what comes after the then ) is not true. Denying the antecedent, sometimes also
called inverse error or fallacy of the inverse, is a formal fallacy of inferring the inverse from the
original statement. I choose this argument because I didn t know much about it, and I felt like I
could understand it more if I knew more about the different arguments. Arguments of this form are
invalid. Informally, this means that arguments of this form do not give good reason to establish
their conclusions, even if their premises are true. When I read about it in the text book it seemed
interesting to learn about, and this became the perfect opportunity to do so. I feel like this
assignment as giving a lot of clarification on understanding the differences in the arguments....

It doesn t bite. Therefore, it s not a shark. It is not that clear that a fallacy is being committed, but
because this is a formal argument following a strict form, even if the conclusion seems to be true,
the argument is still invalid. Fallacies can be very tricky and deceptive. Since it doesn t bite, we
cannot conclude with certainty that it isn t a shark. The arguer has committed a formal fallacy, and
the argument is invalid because the truth of the premises does not guarantee the truth of the
conclusion. The reason why I choose to do this argument because when I was reading this section
in the book, it kind of confused me. I wanted to look more into

History of Breakdancing Essay example
B boying is a form of hip hop dancing, which is popularly known as breaking. It consists of top or
up rock, footwork, spinning moves (power moves), and freeze. B boying came from Bronx, NY.
The term quot;B boy quot; or quot;B boying quot; was created by Kool Herc who was a DJ
spinning at block parties in Bronx back in the days. B Boys means breakboys and they were called
so because they dance to the break part of music. Later, by repeating this break part done by DJ,
quot;breakbeats quot; was born.
It was late 60s, early 70s when people started a sort of b boying. Their dancing was called
quot;Good Foot quot; from James Brown s record of the same name. The Good Foot was the first

History of Breakdancing
B Boying (continued from Page 1)
However, breaking came back with a new generation of b boys. It was Puerto Rican b boys who
put new life to breaking and took it into next level. They started to put many higher levels of
acrobatics and gymnastics into breaking and invented many new moves. B boys such as Crazy
Legs from Rock Steady Crew who were influenced by Jimmy Lee and Joe Joe, members of
original Rock Steady Crew developed and invented the new moves such as backspins and
windmills. Media stars like Bruce Lee and other Kung Fu film stars and martial artists had a
major influence on b boying culture. The popularity of Kung Fu films during the mid and late 70s
around the world and especially in New York City has had a great impact on b boying style. A
large number of martial arts moves were incorporated into b boying.
B boying became even more popular in 80s. It was first introduced to out side of New York City
and the rest of world by a movie quot;Flashdance quot; in 1983. (Before the quot;Flashdance quot;,
there were already movies like quot;Wildstyle quot; and quot;Stylewars quot;). Even though it was

A Comparison of Theories of Social Capital by Pierre...
A Comparison of Theories of Social Capital by Pierre Bourdieu and James Coleman Social
capital is a sociological theory which has gained increasing attention in recent years. Whilst
Bourdieu can be credited with introducing the term to sociology, it was James Coleman who
allowed the concept to gain widespread recognition, highlighting its importance as an individual
notion. For Bourdieu social capital forms a part of an overarching theory of fields , capital and
their relation to class reproduction. The key importance of social capital for Bourdieu is its
relationship with economic capital, whilst for Coleman, social capital is seen to lead to human
capital. It seems that both Bourdieu and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Secondly, the fundamental contrasts between explanations of the social processes which allow
social capital to exist will be discussed, whilst I will argue that this is perhaps the most important
difference between Bourdieu and Coleman s theories. Thirdly, I will address the ramifications of
such differenced in terms of later attempts to use these two theoretical approaches in empirical
testing and practice, arguing that whilst Coleman s approach may seem more attractive, being
inherently more testable and applicable, it is in fact fraught with ambiguities and inconsistencies,
many of which Bourdieu s perhaps more challenging theory manages to avoid. It would firstly
seem important to compare the two definitions of social capital offered by Bourdieu and Coleman.
Bourdieu defines the concept as, the aggregate of the actual or potential resources which are linked
to possession of a durable network of more or less institutionalised relationships of mutual
acquaintance or recognition. (1985 p.248). Coleman, however defined social capital by its function
as a variety of entities with two elements in common: They all consist of some aspect of social
structures, and they facilitate certain action of actors whether persons or corporate actors within the
structure. (1990 p.302). Whilst both theorists concentrate upon the benefits accruing to individuals
or families by

Use Of Narrative Elements In Gothic Films
Narrative Elements in Gothic Films.
Narrative elements are more effective at portraying gothic conventions in films. Narrative elements
are the components that makes up a story while Gothic conventions are what makes a film gothic,
They explore the boundaries between humans and the supernatural, good and evil and our social
values. Key features in gothic films are supernatural themes, death, darkness, decay, murder and
torture, madness or insanity and duality. Narrative elements have a major effect on the atmosphere,
set the tone and theme and are the backbone of the entire film. They are what makes the story

Firstly, narrative elements have a huge ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By writing the storyline a certain way a film can manipulate the emotions of the viewer. While
production elements like music and sound can also do this, multiple scientific experiments have
concluded that the context of the film is what has the most impact. What we watch has a much
stronger emotional effect than say the music. A study conducted by UCLA evolutionary biologist
Daniel Blumstein found that music alone was enough to elicit an emotional response from an
audience however when paired with a film whose storyline did not match the theme of the music it
was the context of the film that dominated. Daniel Blumstein said I think in this case there is a
visual dominance, here we find that when you put the two [video and audio] together, you lose the
acoustic affect you had before. What this means is that scary music paired with a normal film
produced normal emotions and normal music paired with a scary film produced fear. This means
that the narrative elements like the plot, the characters and the actions of the characters are more
impactful than the production elements and therefore better at portraying gothic

Despite the disadvantageous effects of Japanese s surprise attack, this event directly correlates with

What Are The Four Major Developmental Theories
Introduction
Developmental theories help teachers in many ways to enrich their teaching and student s learning
process. Therefore, it is very important teachers to apply the key ideas of these developmental
theories in their teaching career to the betterment of students.
This document will present a brief description of four major developmental theories and will focus
on how these theories can be applied in my real teaching world as a middle school teacher. Four
major developmental theories
Though many theorists have brought the study of human development, there are about four major
important theories that are in use effective (Oswalt, Major Child Development Theories and

Piaget s stages of cognitive development theory
Jean Piaget has brought a cognitive developmental theory with four stages;
Sensorimotor (birth to 2 years), Preoperational (2 to 7 years), Concrete operational (7 to 11 years),
and formal operational (12 years to adulthood). In
Piaget s view, throughout these four stages all children develop their thinking according to how
they see the world around them (Oswalt, Jean Piaget and Child Development

identify and differentiate what is right and what is wrong.
In his theory, he presented main three levels with total six stages. They

Purgatory Beliefs
Purgatory is defined as a place or state of suffering inhabited by the souls of sinners who are
correcting their sins before going to heaven . When we die, we go through a judgement for our
actions we made when we were on Earth. What many people don t know is that everyone goes to
purgatory is doesn t really matter who you were on Earth as a person. Purgatory is meant to purify
the soul before the soul makes its way into heaven.
Catholics are taught to confess their sins in the Sacrament of Penance and believe that God will
forgive them, but they have to be truly sorrowful for their sins and actions for the sacrament to
really affect you. Catholics aren t taught that purgatory as a place of torment and pain. Catholicism
also teaches that the souls that end up in purgatory want to actually be there in the first place. It s a
place to achieve heaven for the one s that were too late to confess their sins during the time on Earth.

God will forgive anyone if you re one of the worst offenders, law breakers, or sinners in general.
Since we are his children in the sense of religion, God truly knows our guilt when we do commit
these sins. Even a verse in scripture from Romans 3: 23 24 tells us about how the sinners are
even brought to justice by God himself. It states for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of
God, being justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus (The Bible).
The idea of Mercy helps give us the opportunity to achieve Heaven is giving the idea that once we
die, our souls won t go to hell immediately. Depending on the sin that was committed if there was
sorrow after the action, then it will be taken into consideration by God and he ll hopefully allow the
soul to pass through

The most important difference between MaestГ and Antigone is the message that each portrays to
society. Duccio di Buoninsegna s series of individualized paintings depicting the Virgin Mary
display her as a central figure that is respected and possibly worshiped by both men and women.
Sophocles play on the other hand displays female oppression through his main character and the
lack of dedication to religion by men. I think this is an important differencebecause each work of art
exposes the beliefs that each artist conveys about their individualized society. Even though there are
many distinctions between Duccio s MaestГ and Sophocles Antigone, I believe that the most
important difference is the message that each... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For starters, Antigone was created in 441 BCE Athens, a city state in Ancient Greece, where the
only thing more powerful than a man s pride in Athens political system was preserving their
egos. During this time, it was evident that the women were firmly wedged underneath the thumb
of Athenian men. The playwright s tragedy encompasses this several times through his
characters. He writes, As far as she s concerned, we bear no guilt. But she s lost her place living
here with us, (Sophocles Excerpt 4). In this quote Antigone s uncle, King Creon ostracizes his
niece because she disobeyed his demands when she performed a burial custom for her brother,
Polyneices. This quote assists in proving that one of the major messages of Sophocles play is the
domination of Athenian men over women. During Sophocles life, Athenian females were not able
to attend the plays, defend themselves in court, choose who they would marry, or spend their
money freely. This idea was reinforced in his play by showing the harshness of Antigone s
treatment by King Creon, exhibiting that females were not equal and certainly did not have the
same liberties as men did. The

Britain and American Influence on Australian Pop Culture...
The Influence of American and British Popular Culture on Australia in the 1950s
In the 1950s America and Britain influenced Australia s popular culture in a number of ways.
Although Australia s national identity is evident in every part of popular culture, America and
Britain both had a significant impact on the development of Australian culture since World War
Two. Throughout out the decade they changed the way people thought about Australian fashion,
music and entertainment. Fashion was based around celebrity images and American cinema and
television became a big hit.
In the 1950s, the fashion industry was based mostly around teenagers and young adults. Before this

Movies starring young men as the main character such as The Wild One and Rebel Without a
Cause inspired young men to follow punk style fashion trends. Wearing blue jeans, a white t shirt,
and a leather jacket became popular around this time, and it was causing a generation of young
men to change their attitudes. This trend became a symbol of teenage rebellion for boys
everywhere. However, not all boys were following this punk style of fashion. Many were leaning
more towards the British styles and trends, including the teddy boy style, which consisted of high
waisted, narrow drain pipe trousers, long jackets, slim ties and large, shiny, pointed shoes. (http:/

Machiavelli and the Use of Antiquity in The Prince and The Discourses
The Renaissance was a time of classical revival and a turning point from the Middle Ages to the
Early Modern period in the course of history. Ancient texts and artifacts became sources of
inspiration for intellectuals and artists alike, and the desire to emulate or even surpass the
achievements of the past prompted them to study antiquities closely and saw them as models and
guidance. People were consciously distinguishing themselves from the medieval thoughts and using
history to make something new for their own era. In the field of political philosophy there s no
exception. Niccolo Machiavelli is perhaps the most representative and groundbreaking figure of this
trend in political philosophy. With his erudition in ancient literature, histories and political thoughts,
Machiavelli draws various sources from antiquity to critic and response to the political environment
of histime. While one may find seemingly discrepancies in The Prince and The Discourse on the
First Ten Books of Tius Livy, the use of histories as guide to demonstrate or propose ideal rules is
apparent in both works. We should note that synthesizing ancient philosophy or thoughts with
contemporary thoughts is nothing new. Thomas Aquinas, for example, reconciled Aristotelianism
and Christianity in his work Summa Theologica, using ancient antiquity to back up his Christian
beliefs. What is so noteworthy in Machiavelli is his emphasis and

Essay On Savagery In Lord Of The Flies
In scholarly studies, symbolism and imagery apply to enhance a reader s knowledge of theme
development. In William Golding s Lord of the Flies, the general theme is the conflict between
human inclination towards savagery and the rules of civilization. The purpose of symbolism and
imagery is essential to the theme development of civilizationversus savagery. Three symbols used to
illustrate the theme of civilization versus savagery throughout the story are the conch shell, the
conflict between Jack and Ralph and the hunter s painted faces.
First, the conch shell is a symbol of civilization versus savagery throughout the story. At the start
point of the novel, the conch shell is used to represent social conduct, authority, and unity among
the boys, which brings them together through civilization. The group of boys describe the conch
as power and use it to express the unity among themselves, I ll give the conch to the next person
to speak. He can hold it when he s speaking... and won t be interrupted (Golding 31). From what
has been said, the group of boys showed civilized behaviour through the influence of the conch, to
affect rules and to prevent savagery. As the novel advances, the conch shell becomes weak as Jack
disobeys the authority of the conch. On the mountain, Jack does not adhere to the significance of
the conch when it is in Piggy s possession, The conch doesn t count on top of the mountain... so you
shut up (42). Essentially, Jack does not accept the

How Did The Igbo Culture Change Over Time
Almost all cultures change over time. There are many different cultures, and even more ways that
they can change. The Ibo culture changed a lot when the white men came. The men who came were
Christians, and they were converting the Ibo people from their religion to Christianity. Achebe
shows in the book Things Fall Apartthe changes in the culture, but also the aspects of the Ibo
culture that were lost. Chinua Achebeshows how cultures can change over time using different
perspectives, such as Nwoye, Okonkwo, and the missionaries.
Nwoye s view of the Ibo culture changed a lot over the course of the book. When he was a kid,
he didn t like some of the Ibo culture s practices, such as leaving twins in the woods. Another

Brown and Mr. Smith, didn t understand the Ibo, so their views didn t necessarily change, but
they were two people who helped cause the changes and losses of the Ibo culture. The first
mention of them was in Part 2, so it s not really possible to know their view of the Ibo. In Part 2,
they were first mentioned trying to recruit new members of their church. One example of how
cultures change is nearly two years after Okonkwo was exiled, The missionaries had come to
Umuofia. They built their churches their, won a handful of converts and were already sending
evangelists to the surrounding towns and villages (page 143). This was one of the first mentions
of the missionaries, and it explained the start of everything that happened in Part 3. Another quote
showed more of Umuofia, and what happened there, This growing feeling was due to Mr. Brown,
the white missionary, who was very firm in restraining his flock from provoking the wrath of the
clan (page 178). This showed the effect of the missionaries arrival, but didn t show the conflict
between the culture and the new religion. The last quote was when Mr. Smith was the missionary.
It explained the differences between the white men and the Ibo, Within a few weeks of his arrival
in Umuofia Mr. Smith suspended a young woman from the church for pouring new wine into old
bottles. This woman had allowed her heathen husband to mutilate her dead child (page 185). This

Margret Thatcher. The first female prime minister of Britain, Margaret Thatcher was a stern and

working towards her goals and achieving them accordingly. A popular quote form her is If you

In fact, as at the time she left office, she laid no foundation for other female politicians. It is

Differences Between Communication And Culture
To study culture is to also study a people s means of communication it is to investigate a group s
way of life, to consider the thought processes behind the choices they make, and to realize the
reasons and means by which they maintain their relationships. Communication and culture are
inseparable due to the reality that one cannot exist without the other. This concept of
acknowledging the connectedness of cultureand communication is iterated in the Handbook of
International and Intercultural Communication when William B. Gudykunst and Bella Mody use
this quote by anthropologist and cross cultural researcher Edward T. Hall, Culture is
communication and communication is culture (Gudykunst Mody, 2004, p.26). The claim that
communication and culture are invariably connected is supported by the universally understood
truth that communication styles vary around the world due to differences in environmental
contexts, the prevalence of regionally specific issues, and the value of relationships within a
cultural group (Gudykunst Mody, 2004). Examples of this phenomenon are the differences between
the methods that people of the United Statesuse to communicate with each other and the methods
that people of other countries utilize to fulfill the same task. The discrepancies relating to verbal
and nonverbal communicationbetween different cultures prove that communication is cultural, and
culture is built on communication. I have always lived in the United States, therefore

Difference Between Western And Western Animation
Difference between Western animation and Eastern Europe Animation
Western use animation cartoon for the most advertising and press. Animated cartoons allowed the
government to spread their message in a much more entertaining manner. Bugs Bunny Bond Rally
is a classic cartoon depicting Bugs Bunny singing and dancing about war bonds. The film was
given to Henry Morgenthau of the U.S. Treasury Department on Monday, December 15, 1941. It
was during such World War II films that Bugs achieved his popularity and made him a national
mascot. The government also used animation studios like Walt Disney to encourage people to pay

The Disney style survived in Soviet animation through the Second World War, The art of
animation can be traced back to prehistoric and ancient times when people drew multiple pictures
on walls and clay pots to try and capture the illusion of life. This eventually led to the invention of
the Zoetrope in 1834. However it was not until the advent of film did animation start to take off.

The Effects Of Alzheimer s And Dementia Among Elderly...
Introduction:
Alarming statistics project that by the year 2050, an estimated 115 million people globally will
be diagnosed with Alzheimer s disease. In 2011, the cost of Alzheimer s care in the United States
exceeded $130 billion (Trivedi, Bijal, 2012). Approximately 90% of older nursing home residents
are estimated to have a psychiatric disorder which includes Alzheimer s disease (Curlik, SM, et al,
1991). In 2003, the report on the President s New Freedom Commission on Mental Health,

Type 2 diabetes is associated with poor sensitivity to insulin. This had led some some researchers to
suggest that Alzheimer s disease may in fact be another type of diabetes (Trivedi, Bijal, 2012).
Discussion:
Alzheimer s disease is characterized by the development of plaque or protein deposits in the brain,
especially areas associated with memory. Brain neurons collapse, crumble, and lose connections
with other neurons which causes disorientation, confusion, erratic behavior, and partial to
complete memory loss. (Trivedi, Bijal, 2012). While a poor sensitivity to insulin is associated
with type 2 diabetes, some researchers including Dr. Suzanne de la Monte, a neuropathologist at
Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island, have suggested that Alzheimer s disease may in
fact be another type of diabetes. If these scientists are correct in their suppositions about diabetes
and dementia, immediate and troubling concerns are going to present overwhelming challenges
to the medical and senior care systems. Ewan McNay, of the University of Albany in New York
states that if the epidemic of type 2 diabetes continues on its current trajectory, it is likely to be
followed by an epidemic of dementia (Trivedi, Bijal, 2012). Alzheimer s disease is increased in
individuals with diabetes. Higher glucose levels in individuals without diabetes has also been
associated with elevated occurrences of Alzheimer s disease. These findings

There are two distinct types of cocoa plants: Criollo and Forastero. The Criollo variety is the
most sensitive of the cocoa plants, and any shifts in climate can have an adverse affect on its
already low yield. In an attempt to blend the hardiness of the Forastero plant with the delicate
flavors of the Criollo plant, the two were hybridized into a third plant, Trinitario, which
accounted for 20% of all production in 2008, although it s steadily developing a following.
Regardless of the cocoa variety, the production cycle is the same. On average, cocoa trees take
five years to reach maturity and bear fruit, at which time only a total of about 20 pods might be
ready for harvest. As a rule of thumb, 10 pods produce 2.2 pounds of cocoa, so the average tree
can produce only a little over four pounds of cocoa. Interestingly, the Ivory Coast, Ghana and
Indonesia account for more than 70% of the world s cocoa production, and most of that
production comes from small plantations. Once the cocoa beans are dried out, they are shipped
to the manufacturer. They are shipped in food safe jut bags that are treated with vegetable oil.
They can only be used once because they have to be clean and strong enough. These bags have to
be disposed after one use which makes them not environmentally friendly. Once on the ship, they
are stored in a large containment room. The dried cocoa beans release a large amount of carbon

The Between Female And Female Adolescents
A.When traveling to the village, I watched the younger villagers participate in recess. I initially
realized the strong distinction between the two gender s interactions. Through the three days in the
village, I came to realize that the female adolescents were not permitted to participate in contact
sports. In comparison, the maleadolescents were consistently shown participating in soccer, the
national sport of Haiti. I would constantly watch the interactions between the two genders of the
adolescents and noticed that they were blatantly distant. The females were shown gossiping on
the playgrounds and playing tag, ignoring the total fact of the males playing soccer very
aggressively. On the last two days in the village, Aina and I attempted to join their game of
soccer, but they were hesitant until we supplied an adequate soccer ball for them. Even when they
allowed us to join the game with them, they still were very hesitant to interact with us in relation
to passing us the ball. In addition, we also gave the girls a ball to play with, but they just put it to
the side and neglected to use it. It was an overall interesting experience, because even when we
moved from playing with the older adolescents to the younger group, the same distinction was
present and the only children playing with us were male.

Science of Stars Paper
In this paper I will explain how astronomers determine the composition, temperature, speed, and
rotation rate of distant objects using various methods. I will explain the properties of stars. I will
also summarize the complete lifecycle of the Sun and determine where the Sun is currently in its
lifecycle.
Measurement of Distant Objects
Light is a type of energy. Light behaves like a wave because it acts as a disturbance in the magnetic
and electric field of space. Light can behave as a particle, because it sends all its energy to one
place. A particle of light is called a photon. Photons can be absorbed into objects, bounce... Show

Properties of Stars
Many physical properties of stars can be found by using a little bit of light. One property of a star is
luminosity. Luminosity is the quantity of energy created in a star and then released as
electromagnetic radiation. The brightness of a star is a blend of luminosity and distance of a star
and can also depend on the quantity of energy absorbed in the direction of a star. Another property
of a star is distance. Astronomers use parallax to establish the distance to an object. As Earthtravels
around the Sun, they monitor neighboring stars from various positions. They are then able to
measure how much the star seems to move to establish the distance to the star.
Another property of a star is temperature. By measuring the temperature of a star, scientists are
able to tell how hot the star is. They use color to measure the temperature of stars. The red ones
are the coolest (3,500 K), the yellow ones are warmer (5,000 to 7,000 K), the white ones are
warmer still (9,000 to 15,000 K), and the blue ones are the hottest (20,000 to 50,000 K).
Life Cycle of the Sun
The life cycle of the Sun starts like all stars with a cloud of dust and gas made up of mostly
hydrogen. If the cloud cools, it will shrink because of the gravitational pull between the particles

The symbol that Thornton represented and the terminology used to describe her body was
closely tied to the idea of the female body was long established symbol in the English public
sphere, featured in both media and politics. Accounts of Thornton s appearance were almost
identical across the different forms of media. Unlike her blue coated portrayal in the earlier
image, Thornton was said to have been wearing a red worsted jacket and duck trousers . Her
body were described as, of low stature with limbs are very firmly knit together . Her facial features
were regularly labeled as, comely, her eyes are dark and brilliant, and her teeth are extremely white.
Cumulatively, the implications of these descriptions amount to an attractive female in typical sailor
s clothing, whose... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These exact adjectives were repeated and reused in all of the different media she appeared in.
The broadsheet used a combination of both phrases but the Lady s Magazine, while adding that
her eyes were expressive , did not resist a quip at how being aboard the ship changed her
appearance. Stating, for the rest, the description may as well cease, till she has overcome the toils
of the sea , it is as if they were horrified to continue describing the weathering that her appearance
had endured at sea. An emphasis on the changes in her appearance was clear when discussing the
number of times her hands were described in the various medias. The ballad was clear to mark the
transition her hands underwent: With pitch and tar her hands were hard, tho once like velvet soft .
The news articles too frequently commented on Thornton s hands, fetishizing her hands as a mark of

Classical Conditioning
Classical Conditioning in Cancer Patients
Classical conditioning has been around for some time in psychology. Now we are able to relate
classical conditioning to nursing practice and education. Classical conditioning can be defined as a
learning process when two stimuli are being paired together over and over. Nausea and vomiting are
common in patients experiencing chemotherapy treatment. Patients with cancer are typically
exposed to a very specific environment in the hospital. This setting would be the conditioned
stimulus. The exposure to the hospital happens before the patient receives chemotherapy, which has
nausea and vomiting as side effects. This would be the unconditioned stimulus. A patient being
exposed over and over to the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Similarly to Hickok et al. (2001) and Montgomery and Bovbjerg (1997), the research article by
Bovbjerg (2006), one question was asked about how does classical conditioning effect the patient s
experiences of post treatment nausea and vomiting. The focus of Bovbjerg (2006) study is to look
at post treatment nausea that chemotherapy patients experience. In order to test the hypothesis, it
will look at the relationship between the intensity of the patients conditioned nausea and the
patients experiences of nausea after 24 hours following treatment (Bovbjerg, 2006). This study
sample included 40 women who received the diagnosis of breast cancer. At the time these patients
were participating in an investigation of chemotherapy related side effects and they developed
anticipatory nausea during their first eight cycles of outpatient chemotherapy. The participants in
the study had to meet the following criteria to be included. The criteria were for the women to be
diagnosed with Stage I or Stage II breast cancer, status post radical, modified radical, or segmental
breast surgery, have a score of 70 or more on Karnofsky performance at the beginning of treatment,
be 18 years old or older, no prior chemotherapy treatment, and no radiation or oral chemotherapy
during the study. Other requirements

Creating An Education System For Education Systems
Creating an education system that is capable of preparing students for the future, education
systems need to be configured into a new, more knowledge centered way of learning.
Deconstructing established structures and routines in education systems involves several planning
and practices coming together in learning and teaching to better reflect the demands of the 21st
century world. Personalised learning advocates that educational systems must change from the
traditional or industrial age of thinking one size fits all model. Personalised learning is a part of
an educational system that surrounds the student as a learner rather than the student requiring to
fit in with the system. This type of learning can be seen in a 21st century classroom, as the class
using digital technology and using an app called Mathletics which has each students required
level of mathematics which could range from low to high, each student works and learns at their
own pace, this is in favour of the teacher stand in front of the class and teach, as students who don
t understand get lost very quickly. Using personalised learning in the classroom helps the teacher
to recognise where each students level of comprehension is, each student has a personalised set
task to complete. Diversity, equity and inclusion is often referred to as a particular group of
learners whom educational success has been harder to achieve than that of other learners (Bolsted
et al, 2012) However a 21st century learning

The Specificity of Albumin Binding Experiment
The specificity of albumin binding experiment was to determine the binding interactions that occur
between serum albumin and three synthetic dyes with the use of electrophoretic procedure. Whole
blood, or plasma. Clots upon standing and if the clot is removed, the remaining straw colored fluid
is called serum. The major protein in serum is albumin which functions as a carrier molecule for the
transport of certain small molecular weight compounds in blood. Molecules that bind to serum
albumin are fatty acids, hormones and some synthetic dyes. In this experiment the synthetic dyes
used are Bromophenol Blue, Ponceau S and Orange G. we observed that free dyes not bound to

buffer to interrupt the binding. (saturation).
Group 6, which is the 2nd half of the gel picture, does not correspond with Anderson results, no

Gender Report Card
WK4Assgn+Charles+J I chose the 2015 NFL S Racial And Gender Report Card. I believe that
out of all of major leagues professional sports the NFL has a lot of work to do, but in 2015 I do
see progress in this report. The report card by Richard Lapchick with Leroy Robinson Published
September 10, 2015 stated that The percent of people of color who held professional positions
on NFL teams increased from 18.4 percent in 2014 to 19.4 percent in 2015. The percent of
women in professional administrative positions increased by 1.6 percentage points from 30.6
percent in 2014 to 32.2 percent in 2015. Lapchick, R. (2015, September10). These numbers
show that the NFL is slowly, but surely moving in the right direction. Although, the NFL in 2015
announced it s first female officals, which is a huge milestone for professional men sports. The
league is doing a decent job, with not only diversifying its teams and front offices, but also its
officals, which is a big deal. I remember growing up and watching NFL football games and only
seeing one the same color as me. Also, the NFL announce its first female coach, which I believe
will be inspirational to women who have a love and passion for the sport, not limited them to the
front office in an administrator role. This is great for the league as a whole.... Show more content on

The Clothing Company s Main Goal
Introduction
Ten Tree is a North American clothing company that was founded by two entrepreneurs Dave
Luba and Kalen Emsley (Gamble et al. 2). The clothing company s main goal is to be, first most,
an environmental company that plants trees, with its main goal being 10 trees planted for every
product sold (Gamble et al. 6). By being an environmentally friendly clothing company, they plan
to change the clothing industry with their unique product offering, environmental aid through
reforestation, manufacturing through green energy and products, and the social environment from
their business model (TenTree, Commitment ).
Recently, they have faced the issue of having their product selling at a higher rate than they had
expected. This has caused a high demand for the product, but also frustration from retailers and
customers from their inability to produce enough of their product to match the demand. Their
current onshore manufacturer cannot meet the amount nor the customization possibilities that are
expected. This has led Ten Tree to look offshore to possibly expand their product offerings and
produce enough to meet demands.

Miletus Research Paper
While under the Persian influence around 525 BC Miletus reorganized its constitution. Miletus
will have an annual magistrate called the Aisymuetes or president. They will serve as the chief
priest at the temple of Apollo of Didyma. They will also have the official called the Molpoi or
psalmist. This is the group where the presidents were elected from. They were assisted by three
officials called the associates. These three were elected biennially from the six tribes. Miletus also
had the subordinate official called the Ouitadue. Ag p. 151 2 In 520 BC the power was retained

After being repopulated, the people of Miletus restored the old constitution. They changed a few
things like abolishing the associates with their jobs being taken over by other officials. They also
started the business of religious matters again at Didyma at the temple of Apollo. They continued
to divide the population into the six tribes. It became strong enough to play a role later in the fifth
century in the struggle for Greece between Athens and Sparta. Athens had Miletus join into the
Delian League, but they were still too weak to contribute partly due to the destruction of the city.
Miletus also faced internal political conflict and Athens became involved in the situation. Athens
supported the upper class to continue to rule rather than a democracy which is what Athens used to
rule its city state. However, this upper class of rulers started to take advantage of the workers
causing more tension. The oligarchs revolted from Athens and massacred their opponents. By 442
at the latest Athens put down the revolt and established a democratic government on the Athenian
model. Gs Pg 398 After they created some stability, they appointed a commission of five to revise
and change the constitution of Miletus. The appointed commission of five followed the structure
and order of the Athenian form of government. They had a council with superior magistrates called
wardens. They also had assistant magistrates called colleagues. The Psalmist

Famine, Affluence, and Morality Essay
In the article by Singer, P. (1972) Famine, affluence, and morality main argument is that to persuade
his readers in what people of wealth and governments should help with famine relief, especially in
East Bengal as one example given. Singer is furthermore also mention somewhat of and
utilitarianism. Therefore, according to Mosser, K. (2010) A concise introduction to philosophy
states that the act utilitarianismapplies the idea of utilitarianism to specific acts, emphasizing what

(p. 962)
To explain the three counter arguments on Singer s response were weak and only seen to relate to
the fact of the Bengalis and leaving other cultures behind or others such as Ethiopia where famine is
a daily existence of life there. Therefore, Singer (1972) argues about trying to find:
Distinction between duty and charity in some other place... that the present way of drawing the
distinction, which makes it an act of charity for a man living at the level of affluence, which most
people in the developed nations enjoy giving money to save someone else from starvation, cannot
be supported. (p. 235)
Lastly, Singer looks at the moral scheme of things and how they justify on giving aid and how
the principle of marginal unity can apply. As he states that we have an obligation and duty to
help others in famine suffering if we can do so, then it is in your morals scheme makeup to do
so. According to Singer (1972) states that he had, One objection to the position I have taken might
be simply that it is too drastic a revision of our moral scheme. People do not ordinarily judge in
the way I have suggested they should (p. 236). Another point that Singer made was that The
conclusion that should be drawn is that the best means of preventing famine, in the long run, is
population control (p. 240). Therefore, the point is to help if one is able to or better yet,

The Sayings Of Poor Richard By Benjamin Franklin
One lesson I learned from The sayings of Poor Richard by Ben Franklin was that actions speak
louder than words. Franklin said He that composes himself is wiser than he that composes
books. (Franklin) This analogy is saying I shouldn t criticize how others act, if I don t act the
way I should. In the story, Poor Richard was trying to find the ways to achieve moral perfection.
He believed that being able to compose yourself is way more important than telling others what to
do. Composing yourself means to watch your own actions, and strive to be morally excellent.
Somebody s actions shows the kind of person they are, not what they say. Being all talk can make
an individual appear a fool. It s a lot easier to say something then do something.

The Power Of Julius Caesar
To continue, Julius Caesar s life was based around gaining more and more power because when
Caesar became dictator he began to conquer many places and people in order to become more
formidable. One example of this is Julius Caesar decided to try and attack Pompey by crossing the
River Rhine. EyeWitnessToHistory.com states,
It was January 49 BC, Caesar was staying in the Northern Italian city of Ravenna and he had a
decision to make. Either he acquiesced to the Senate s command or he moved southward to
confront Pompey and plunge the Roman Republic into a bloody civil war.
Farther into the article it claims,
In January of 49 BC, Julius Caesar led his army across the Rubicon river in Northern Italy and
plunged the Roman Republic into the civil war.
This shows that even the decision to start a civil war was to get more power because Caesar
would be taking over and controlling another powerful person. Another example, is Caesar
conquers Gaul in order to gain more power and be in control of more places. PBS.org states,
Between 58 and 50 BC, Caesar used his expertise in military strategy, along with the Roman army s
training and discipline to conquer and subdue the rest of Gail, up to the River Rhine.
This shows, that Julius Caesar even spent 8 years trying to conquer a country mainly for more
control and for him to have authority over more people. Some argue that 8 years of war shows he
is truly dedication to his people, but this is misleading because the outcome of

  • 2. Criminal Court Report On Juvenile Criminal Cases Criminal Court Report Each year in Canada, over 400,000 adult criminal cases are brought in front of a judge. That number may seem incredibly high, but considering the amount of charges brought against individuals daily, it really is not all that high. I had the opportunity to see a number of different adult criminal court proceedings, from bail hearings to guilty pleas, but the one that I m going to analyze today is the sentencing hearing of a young man who was charged with uttering threats, breach of undertaking and two counts of breach of probation. The hearing which I witnessed took place in the Ontario Court of Justice since the offences were processed summarily, and the offences were not extremely serious. The Ontario Court of Justice is a trialcourt as well as a court for pre trial hearings. It s the starting point for almost all criminal cases, and usually the ending point as well. This court handles all preliminary hearings, first appearances and bail hearings as well as trials and sentencing hearings. In the hierarchy of courts, the Ontario Court of Justice is lowest and usually the only court that most offenders will see. During the hearing I witnessed, three different offences were being dealt with. The first and most serious offence is in section 264.1 (1)(a) in the Criminal Code of Canada which is uttering threats. The second offence that the offender was charged with was failure to comply with conditions of undertaking, which is section 145 (5.1) of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Poetry Of Christina Keats And Christina Rossetti The Romantic Period of prose of poetry created a form that promoted the focus on the supernatural, the natural world, and newfound interest in what was once overlooked. Born in different times and with distinct circumstances, both John Keats and Christina Rossetti took to poetry to convey their own ideas, shaped by this revolutionary time. Keats faced the brevity of life much more severely and took on a more grandiose, dramatic form of romantic poetry when compared to Christina Rossetti. However, both had a similar tone in observing the natural world and conveying the emotion that compelled from within. The impact of the Romantic Movement can be felt as one reads through both John Keatsand Christina Rossetti. While differences may exist, and their portrayal is a unique experience of one s own, elements of the great Romantic time permeates through both of these marvelous poets. As seen throughout the Romantic Period, proper description and visualization of setting served as crucial to the overall feel and overtone for a poem. Keats masterful composition of Bright Star exemplifies his vivid imagery as a star is described to hang lonely in the night and personified as forever awake with eternal lids apart . He dreams of lying on his fair love s ripening breast... to hear her tender taken breath. Keats imagery serves to stir emotion within the reader and relate intangible concepts to those that can be related. His depictions of severe circumstances are filled with ... • 5. Benefits Of Internships On The Middle Ages Justin Wu Carol Nader IS301L 5/7/2015 Get What You Can Internships have been around for a very long time. Even in the medieval ages there have been signs of internships through the process of apprenticeship. During the Middle Ages humans did not suddenly become professional blacksmiths. Novices normally went through a process called apprenticeship. Apprentices would study under their teacher in order to familiarize themselves with the craft. Apprenticeships typically last three to six years. After successfully completing this process apprentices go on to become journeymen. The procedure aids beginners in the field of blacksmithing and helps them make the transition from novice to blacksmith. Internships are today s version of apprenticeship and just like apprenticeships, internships help ease students from the classroom setting into the real world workforce. Internships are an integral part of our society. They not only benefit the trainee but also the company she or he works for. Through this symbiotic relationship the company gains free labor and the trainees obtain experience and knowledge. The students that go through internships turn out to be more experienced and have greater confidence in their abilities. They tend to gain employment faster and climb the corporate ladder swifter compared to other graduates. There does not seem to be any risks or downsides to an unpaid internship. However, there are people who criticize unpaid internships calling ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Write An Essay On New Orleans Hot and humid weather, hurricanes, Mississippi river, jazz, delicious food, famous vacation place, and relatively high proportion of black people. These are all that I d heard about New Orleans before I came to this city. A month has passed since I arrived to New Orleans, and I experienced more than I d knew. But still, although I was aware of the fact that what I had experienced until now are not everything about New Orleans, I was surprised when I learned about the new aspects of New Orleans through the service work, class, and the lecture of guest speaker. What primarily provoked me was the ambivalent situation in New Orleans. Even before I came to Tulane, while looking around several places in New Orleans with my mother, I found that there is a huge discrepancy between the areas. Although some areas, such as the downtown near French quarter or the residence area of so called rich people, were seemed to be very developed and well organized, on the other hand, other areas in the city were somewhat destroyed, aged, and even smelled... However, except few high quality private schools, most schools are public and don t have such a huge gap since the local governments manage them under the regulations of the central government. Therefore, first, the concept of the charter school was new to me because there isn t the term of charter school itself in Korea, and in addition, the great disparity between the schools and between the availability of students access to apply for better schools was surprising. Moreover, I was bewildered to hear that some students should come all the way from the opposite side of the school every day, spending more than an hour. • 7. Similarities And Differences Between Heart Of Darkness And... The movie Apocalypse Now is inspired by Joseph Conrad s novel Heart of Darkness. Due to this, the majority of the film is based upon the book, in terms of plot, theme, characters, and setting. The differences between the two works arise in the modern interpretation taken by Apocalypse Now, and the presentation of Heart of Darknessthemes through current events. Both Apocalypse Now(AN) and Heart of Darkness (HOD) take place within four main settings, with the same overall plot. In HOD, these settings are Brussels, the Central Station, the steamboat on the river, and Kurtz s compound. In AN, the initial settings are instead a meeting room with officers and a military base, before becoming a steamboat on the river, and Kurtz s compound. The initial settings both serve the same role: to present the main characterwith their job, and to give them the means and transportation to complete it. Both works have the jungle as the overall and main setting. Though set in Vietnam and the Congo respectively, both jungles are presented as dark and savage the entryway into the unknown. In both cases, the jungle is not initially seen as dangerous it is simply the environment, a means to an end. In AN, it is not until Chef and Willard journey into the jungle in search of mangoes that this illusion is disrupted. It depends on human beings how they response under different circumstances. The one human being I believe went through adversities was Louis Zamperini. Zamperini was a POW in Japan. He went through various struggles such as being stranded in the ocean, being tortured in a death camp, starvation; he even used his last bit of strength to save his friends. Louis Zamperini was a man of many traits but the three that stick out to me are having forgiveness, being a leader, and being an inspiration to many. The definition of forgive is to stop feeling angry or resentful toward (someone) for an offense, flaw, or mistake. Louis, in the movie, showed great examples of forgiveness to the people who brutally tortured him. • 9. Benefits Of Denying The Antecedent What exactly is denying the Antecedent? It is a fallacy in formal logic where in a standard if/then premise, the antecedent (what comes after the if ) is made not true, and then it is concludes that the consequent (what comes after the then ) is not true. Denying the antecedent, sometimes also called inverse error or fallacy of the inverse, is a formal fallacy of inferring the inverse from the original statement. I choose this argument because I didn t know much about it, and I felt like I could understand it more if I knew more about the different arguments. Arguments of this form are invalid. Informally, this means that arguments of this form do not give good reason to establish their conclusions, even if their premises are true. A Comparison of Theories of Social Capital by Pierre Bourdieu and James Coleman Social capital is a sociological theory which has gained increasing attention in recent years. Whilst Bourdieu can be credited with introducing the term to sociology, it was James Coleman who allowed the concept to gain widespread recognition, highlighting its importance as an individual notion. For Bourdieu social capital forms a part of an overarching theory of fields , capital and their relation to class reproduction. Thirdly, I will address the ramifications of such differenced in terms of later attempts to use these two theoretical approaches in empirical testing and practice, arguing that whilst Coleman s approach may seem more attractive, being inherently more testable and applicable, it is in fact fraught with ambiguities and inconsistencies, many of which Bourdieu s perhaps more challenging theory manages to avoid. It would firstly seem important to compare the two definitions of social capital offered by Bourdieu and Coleman. Bourdieu defines the concept as, the aggregate of the actual or potential resources which are linked to possession of a durable network of more or less institutionalised relationships of mutual acquaintance or recognition. (1985 p.248). Coleman, however defined social capital by its function as a variety of entities with two elements in common: They all consist of some aspect of social structures, and they facilitate certain action of actors whether persons or corporate actors within the structure. A study conducted by UCLA evolutionary biologist Daniel Blumstein found that music alone was enough to elicit an emotional response from an audience however when paired with a film whose storyline did not match the theme of the music it was the context of the film that dominated. Daniel Blumstein said I think in this case there is a visual dominance, here we find that when you put the two [video and audio] together, you lose the acoustic affect you had before. During this time, it was evident that the women were firmly wedged underneath the thumb of Athenian men. The playwright s tragedy encompasses this several times through his characters. He writes, As far as she s concerned, we bear no guilt. But she s lost her place living here with us, (Sophocles Excerpt 4). In this quote Antigone s uncle, King Creon ostracizes his niece because she disobeyed his demands when she performed a burial custom for her brother, Polyneices. This quote assists in proving that one of the major messages of Sophocles play is the domination of Athenian men over women. During Sophocles life, Athenian females were not able to attend the plays, defend themselves in court, choose who they would marry, or spend their money freely. Machiavelli and the Use of Antiquity in The Prince and The Discourses The Renaissance was a time of classical revival and a turning point from the Middle Ages to the Early Modern period in the course of history. Ancient texts and artifacts became sources of inspiration for intellectuals and artists alike, and the desire to emulate or even surpass the achievements of the past prompted them to study antiquities closely and saw them as models and guidance. People were consciously distinguishing themselves from the medieval thoughts and using history to make something new for their own era. In the field of political philosophy there s no exception. Niccolo Machiavelli is perhaps the most representative and groundbreaking figure of this trend in political philosophy. With his erudition in ancient literature, histories and political thoughts, Machiavelli draws various sources from antiquity to critic and response to the political environment of histime. In William Golding s Lord of the Flies, the general theme is the conflict between human inclination towards savagery and the rules of civilization. The purpose of symbolism and imagery is essential to the theme development of civilizationversus savagery. Three symbols used to illustrate the theme of civilization versus savagery throughout the story are the conch shell, the conflict between Jack and Ralph and the hunter s painted faces. First, the conch shell is a symbol of civilization versus savagery throughout the story. The claim that communication and culture are invariably connected is supported by the universally understood truth that communication styles vary around the world due to differences in environmental contexts, the prevalence of regionally specific issues, and the value of relationships within a cultural group (Gudykunst Mody, 2004). Examples of this phenomenon are the differences between the methods that people of the United Statesuse to communicate with each other and the methods that people of other countries utilize to fulfill the same task. The discrepancies relating to verbal and nonverbal communicationbetween different cultures prove that communication is cultural, and culture is built on communication. Animated cartoons allowed the government to spread their message in a much more entertaining manner. Bugs Bunny Bond Rally is a classic cartoon depicting Bugs Bunny singing and dancing about war bonds. The film was given to Henry Morgenthau of the U.S. Treasury Department on Monday, December 15, 1941. It was during such World War II films that Bugs achieved his popularity and made him a national mascot. This eventually led to the invention of the Zoetrope in 1834. However it was not until the advent of film did animation start to take off. Introduction: Alarming statistics project that by the year 2050, an estimated 115 million people globally will be diagnosed with Alzheimer s disease. In 2011, the cost of Alzheimer s care in the United States exceeded $130 billion (Trivedi, Bijal, 2012). Approximately 90% of older nursing home residents are estimated to have a psychiatric disorder which includes Alzheimer s disease (Curlik, SM, et al, 1991). In 2003, the report on the President s New Freedom Commission on Mental Health, Achieving the Promise: Transforming Mental Health Care in America, recommended that mental health must be addressed with urgency in light of the prevalence of increasing diagnoses of Alzheimer s and dementia among elderly populations ( President s New ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Type 2 diabetes is associated with poor sensitivity to insulin. This had led some some researchers to suggest that Alzheimer s disease may in fact be another type of diabetes (Trivedi, Bijal, 2012). Discussion: Alzheimer s disease is characterized by the development of plaque or protein deposits in the brain, especially areas associated with memory. Brain neurons collapse, crumble, and lose connections with other neurons which causes disorientation, confusion, erratic behavior, and partial to complete memory loss. (Trivedi, Bijal, 2012). While a poor sensitivity to insulin is associated with type 2 diabetes, some researchers including Dr. Suzanne de la Monte, a neuropathologist at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island, have suggested that Alzheimer s disease may in fact be another type of diabetes. If these scientists are correct in their suppositions about diabetes and dementia, immediate and troubling concerns are going to present overwhelming challenges to the medical and senior care systems. Ewan McNay, of the University of Albany in New York states that if the epidemic of type 2 diabetes continues on its current trajectory, it is likely to be followed by an epidemic of dementia (Trivedi, Bijal, 2012). Alzheimer s disease is increased in individuals with diabetes. Higher glucose levels in individuals without diabetes has also been associated with elevated occurrences of Alzheimer s disease. There are two distinct types of cocoa plants: Criollo and Forastero. The Criollo variety is the most sensitive of the cocoa plants, and any shifts in climate can have an adverse affect on its already low yield. In an attempt to blend the hardiness of the Forastero plant with the delicate flavors of the Criollo plant, the two were hybridized into a third plant, Trinitario, which accounted for 20% of all production in 2008, although it s steadily developing a following. Regardless of the cocoa variety, the production cycle is the same. On average, cocoa trees take five years to reach maturity and bear fruit, at which time only a total of about 20 pods might be ready for harvest. As a rule of thumb, 10 pods produce 2.2 pounds of cocoa, so the average tree can produce only a little over four pounds of cocoa. Interestingly, the Ivory Coast, Ghana and Indonesia account for more than 70% of the world s cocoa production, and most of that production comes from small plantations. Once the cocoa beans are dried out, they are shipped to the manufacturer. They are shipped in food safe jut bags that are treated with vegetable oil. They can only be used once because they have to be clean and strong enough. These bags have to be disposed after one use which makes them not environmentally friendly. I initially realized the strong distinction between the two gender s interactions. Through the three days in the village, I came to realize that the female adolescents were not permitted to participate in contact sports. In comparison, the maleadolescents were consistently shown participating in soccer, the national sport of Haiti. I would constantly watch the interactions between the two genders of the adolescents and noticed that they were blatantly distant. The females were shown gossiping on the playgrounds and playing tag, ignoring the total fact of the males playing soccer very aggressively. On the last two days in the village, Aina and I attempted to join their game of soccer, but they were hesitant until we supplied an adequate soccer ball for them. Even when they allowed us to join the game with them, they still were very hesitant to interact with us in relation to passing us the ball. In addition, we also gave the girls a ball to play with, but they just put it to the side and neglected to use it. It was an overall interesting experience, because even when we moved from playing with the older adolescents to the younger group, the same distinction was present and the only children playing with us were male. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Properties of Stars Many physical properties of stars can be found by using a little bit of light. One property of a star is luminosity. Luminosity is the quantity of energy created in a star and then released as electromagnetic radiation. The brightness of a star is a blend of luminosity and distance of a star and can also depend on the quantity of energy absorbed in the direction of a star. Another property of a star is distance. Astronomers use parallax to establish the distance to an object. As Earthtravels around the Sun, they monitor neighboring stars from various positions. They are then able to measure how much the star seems to move to establish the distance to the star. Another property of a star is temperature. By measuring the temperature of a star, scientists are able to tell how hot the star is. They use color to measure the temperature of stars. The red ones are the coolest (3,500 K), the yellow ones are warmer (5,000 to 7,000 K), the white ones are warmer still (9,000 to 15,000 K), and the blue ones are the hottest (20,000 to 50,000 K). Creating An Education System For Education Systems Creating an education system that is capable of preparing students for the future, education systems need to be configured into a new, more knowledge centered way of learning. Deconstructing established structures and routines in education systems involves several planning and practices coming together in learning and teaching to better reflect the demands of the 21st century world. Personalised learning advocates that educational systems must change from the traditional or industrial age of thinking one size fits all model. Personalised learning is a part of an educational system that surrounds the student as a learner rather than the student requiring to fit in with the system. This type of learning can be seen in a 21st century classroom, as the class using digital technology and using an app called Mathletics which has each students required level of mathematics which could range from low to high, each student works and learns at their own pace, this is in favour of the teacher stand in front of the class and teach, as students who don t understand get lost very quickly. Using personalised learning in the classroom helps the teacher to recognise where each students level of comprehension is, each student has a personalised set task to complete. It became strong enough to play a role later in the fifth century in the struggle for Greece between Athens and Sparta. Athens had Miletus join into the Delian League, but they were still too weak to contribute partly due to the destruction of the city. Miletus also faced internal political conflict and Athens became involved in the situation. Athens supported the upper class to continue to rule rather than a democracy which is what Athens used to rule its city state. However, this upper class of rulers started to take advantage of the workers causing more tension. The oligarchs revolted from Athens and massacred their opponents. By 442 at the latest Athens put down the revolt and established a democratic government on the Athenian model. As he states that we have an obligation and duty to help others in famine suffering if we can do so, then it is in your morals scheme makeup to do so. Two surveys have been conducted in the area. Horned Toad Consultants conducted extensive judgemental surveys during initial impact assessment, concentrating on the grasslands of the Little Bison valley, two arbitrarily chosen tributary valleys (Cripple Creek and Silver Creek), one cirque (below Smith Peak) and the Inverness Plateau. Four site types were defined. Camp sites contain a wide range of artifact types and fire broken rock. Kill sites contain a restricted range of artifacts (mainly projectile points) and large quantities of bone. Lithic scatters are small sites with no diagnostic artifacts. Quarries have large quantities of debitage, usually associated with shallow pits dug into bedrock. The distribution of sites and diagnostic artifacts is shown in Figure 8.1. Recently R. Bootheel undertook a survey of the area using random sampling techniques. Although her M.A. thesis is still being written, she has commented on the previous survey as follows: ARCHAEOWGICAL DATA Survey ! ~ i I. ;.

  • 53. The Sayings Of Poor Richard By Benjamin Franklin One lesson I learned from The sayings of Poor Richard by Ben Franklin was that actions speak louder than words. Franklin said He that composes himself is wiser than he that composes books. (Franklin) This analogy is saying I shouldn t criticize how others act, if I don t act the way I should. In the story, Poor Richard was trying to find the ways to achieve moral perfection. He believed that being able to compose yourself is way more important than telling others what to do. Composing yourself means to watch your own actions, and strive to be morally excellent. Somebody s actions shows the kind of person they are, not what they say. Being all talk can make an individual appear a fool. It s a lot easier to say something then do something. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 54. The Power Of Julius Caesar To continue, Julius Caesar s life was based around gaining more and more power because when Caesar became dictator he began to conquer many places and people in order to become more formidable. One example of this is Julius Caesar decided to try and attack Pompey by crossing the River Rhine. EyeWitnessToHistory.com states, It was January 49 BC, Caesar was staying in the Northern Italian city of Ravenna and he had a decision to make. Either he acquiesced to the Senate s command or he moved southward to confront Pompey and plunge the Roman Republic into a bloody civil war. Farther into the article it claims, In January of 49 BC, Julius Caesar led his army across the Rubicon river in Northern Italy and plunged the Roman Republic into the civil war. This shows that even the decision to start a civil war was to get more power because Caesar would be taking over and controlling another powerful person. Another example, is Caesar conquers Gaul in order to gain more power and be in control of more places. PBS.org states, Between 58 and 50 BC, Caesar used his expertise in military strategy, along with the Roman army s training and discipline to conquer and subdue the rest of Gail, up to the River Rhine. This shows, that Julius Caesar even spent 8 years trying to conquer a country mainly for more control and for him to have authority over more people. Some argue that 8 years of war shows he is truly dedication to his people, but this is misleading because the outcome of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
