Observation Of A Child Observation
Over the past few weeks I have observed a child in the twelve to eighteen month old category.
Throughout this paper I will refer to him as Z. I had five different observations, each for one hour at
the West Chester Area Day Care. I sat in classroom seven, in a little chair in the corner writing down
everything I observed about him. It was interesting to learn about Z as I watched him interact with the
adults and other kids that were in the room with him. Z caught my attention right away in the
classroom. He was very active, walking around while the other children were mainly sitting or only
crawling. This lead me to choose him to observe for this project, and focus on his physical movement
and interactions with others throughout this paper. Z was always moving around, the only time he was
ever sitting still was when he was placed in a height chair for snack time. He switched between
crawling and walking. Most of the time he would walk, but then he would fall down and continue to
wherever his destination was by crawling. I noticed one day he was holding a maraca and walked for a
longer period of time than usual. According to (page 183 infants children and adolescents), it is easier
for them to focus on their balance when they are holding onto an object. He demonstrated the ability t
squat down and picking something up, before returning to a standing position. The adults encouraged
his walking behaviors, so when the group came in from the outside playground, they would let him
walk in, while most of the other kids were being pushed in the giant stroller. The average age for most
kids to begin walking is 11 months and 3 weeks, the range being 9 to 17 months, so he his definitely
on track for his age group (182). He was also able to climb up onto things. For example, when the
children were brought on walks around the neighborhood there was a giant stroller that they rode in as
mentioned earlier. Z got up the step and turned himself around to sit down in the seat. He did the same
thing on some of the steps on the playground, crawling up one and turning himself around to sit.
Walking up stairs with help is achieved on average at 16 months, so he appears to be on the right track
towards that motor skill. A baby s

Chingachgook s The Last Of The Mohicans
The Last of the Mohicans
The relationships that parents have with their kids are something special. Each relationship is unique
in its own way. It s unique in that to be parents or kid to someone else, they don t have to be the
conventional husband, wife, and child. It could be one Dad raising the child by himself. It could be
two moms raising the child. It could be an entire group of people collectively helping to raise that
child. The beauty in it is that the role of the parent and child are endless. But one thing that every
single one of those relationships has in common is that those parents and children share a special
bond. To sum up, each family bond is something special that cannot be replicated and is unique to
each relationship. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Each family has their own traditions and own way of dealing with each other, although, families can
have similarities and differences. One similarity between Chingachgook and Uncas and Munro and his
daughters are that they still deeply care for one another. No matter how much they fight and argue, at
the end of the day, they still love each other because they are family. Nothing can get between love
and their families. But, one difference between the two families is that Chingachgook treats Uncas
with more respect and believes that he is responsible enough to make most of his own decisions.
While at the same time, Munro thinks that his daughters are still too young and impressionable. He
feels that he must still always keep an eye on them and make every decision so that they can always
be protected. Now, neither of those two ways of parenting are wrong, it is just how each of them
thinks it is the best ways to watch over their children. To sum up, parenting is a very difficult thing to
do at some times, and each parent has their own way of teaching their children how to grow

The Effects Of Music On People s Mood
Introduction
Listening to music can be an influence on people s mood. Sad music is able to make someone cry
whereas happy music does the opposite. Music can be defined as sound of vocal, instruments or
combined to form harmony and expression of emotion (Jackson, 2003). And also it can be classified
into two categories ; arousing and calm music. Arousing music is usually fast, rhythmic, or give a
sudden loud sound. However, calming music is usually slower, with a smooth melody, and not too
rhythmic (Ball, 2010). Research has proven that music is not only one form of entertainment, but also
is beneficial to a number of health including developing baby s brain and memory, lowering stress
levels, improving sleep quality, raising states of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Therefore, the hypothesis was supported in this study. However, the results were not significant
because there was only a slight change in heart rate; other extraneous variables such as movement of
participants would have caused it easily . The reason that results support the hypothesis is several
studies also show that when participants listen to arousing music, their breathing pattern and heart rate
will become rapid involuntarily. This is more obvious when observing trained musicians as their
breathing pattern and heart rate tends to synchronize with the rhythm of the music (Maqlione, 2006).
Arousing music has the effect of tensing muscles and high blood pressure because louder and faster
noises tend to raise both heart rate and blood pressure. In contrast, the rhythm of calm music can guide
the body into slower respiration and relaxation of muscles, lowering the heart rate(Turner Frey, 2005).
The findings of this investigation can be applied in the real world such as the medical field, calming
music can be a therapy to reduce people s stress. Studies have shown that cardiovascular patients
listening to calming music for 30 minutes had lower blood pressure, slower heart rates and less
distress than those who did not listen to music. In comparison, listen to arousing music may increase
the level of excitement(Music as medicine: the impact of healing

Taking a Look at the Omnivore s Dilemma
What am I exactly eating? Where does our food come from? Why should I care? The Omnivore s
Dilemma may forever change the way you think about food. I enjoyed Mr. Pollan s book, The
Omnivore s Dilemma and learned a great deal of information. Pollan s book is a plea for us to stop and
think for a moment about our whole process of eating. Pollan sets out to corn fields and natural farms,
goes hunting and foraging, all in the name of coming to terms with where food really comes from in
modern America and what the ramifications are for the eaters, the eaten, the economy and the
environment. The results are far more than I expected them to be.
I had no idea we used so much fossil fuel to get corn to grow as much as it does. There is a
widespread of obesity today due to the need of agricultural excesses of corn. I hadn t thought, for
example that anyone could give me any more reasons not to eat HOT French fries at McDonalds, but
Pollan did!
The first section of this book traces a meal at McDonalds back to its basic ingredient corn. From the
corn that feeds the chickens to the xanthan gum in the milkshake to the sweetener in the ketchup and
oil in which the fries are cooked, McDonalds is mostly corn. Since Fast Food Nation and the other
exposes, I don t think there s anyone who cares who doesn t know how gross fast food is, and Pollan
admirably stays away from the yuckiest. Instead, he goes to accusing Americans who eat food of
having become like koalas, capable of absorbing

Why World War I Began
There is no cut and dry answer why WWI began. It seems like all of the countries were acting as if
they were a group of teenage girls in high school gossiping about one another and doing antagonistic
things to badger each other to make themselves feel better due to their own insecurities. It could be
argued many ways why WWI started but I believe that it was brought upon by grudges that were held
over a long period of time, until, the straw that broke the camel s back , which was the assassination of
the Archduke France Ferdinand. With support from Germany s blank check, Austria Hungary secured
a bond with Germany that led to Franz Joseph signing his declaration of war on Serbia. With tensions
building between the two countries, prior to the assassination, there were definitely things that had
been boiling under the surface. The responsibility of WWI does not lie on one country; all participants
played a role in its beginning whether it was direct or indirect. Many tensions were building up
throughout Europe. Nationalism, Militarism, and Imperialism are reasons that led to WWI among
others. Imperialism is unequally and forcefully taking over another country which is what many
countries were doing before WWI. Europeans started taking over small countries just for the resources
and power. Nationalism was developed and it created a dedication and devotion between an individual
and there country. Individuals began to have pride of their country along with patriotism. This

Benefits Of Helicopter Parenting
For most kids, moving to college is the first time they will be out of their parents house for a long
period of time. This opens them up to a lot of new experiences. Ideally, they should be ready to face
the new challenges living out of the house will bring. In some cases, the child will have an extremely
difficult time learning how to take care of themselves. The parents of the child play a huge role in
whether or not their child is ready for this step. When raising the child, they made the decision to
either let their child learn things on their own, or help them with every single task the child is
presented with. This has been a growing issue as time moves on. As helicopter parenting becomes
more common, it causes this reaction as stated ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is when most parents would expect their children to become dependent and handle situations
alone, but this is not always the case. Washington Post writer, Amy Joyce, wrote How Helicopter
Parents are Ruining College Students , to explain mostly to parents why they need to let their child
handle problems in college on their own. Joyce explains that some parents even call the college
president when their child has some sort of issue going on. It is very common for a grown child to text
their parents to solve problems for them. This is becoming a growing concern as today s college
students are more attached to their parents. There are many people who believe that letting children
fail benefits them later in life. TV news reporter turned stay at home mom, Janie Porter, would like to
persuade others to not protect children from any consequences in life. Porter writes the article, Dear
Parents, Stop Rescuing Your Kids From Failure , to share how she raises her family and how it is
working for her. Porter firmly believes that children need to fall down and get hurt so they can get
back up. Her parents let her learn from her mistakes and she believed it worked so well it is the way

Devil In The White City Nonfiction
This book is boring. This book is full of facts. I fell asleep reading this book. These are the nonfiction
genre stereotypes that most people think. Erik Larson changed that stereotype and wrote a nonfiction
book with real characters and overall facts. The Devil in the White City does not only tell an
elaborating true story, but it tries to grab the reader to believe that they are actually living in 1893
during the Chicago World s Fair trials and tribulations. To tell this story, Larson combines qualities of
a nonfiction book and a generic novel to successfully craft a narrative built on historical facts,
therefore developing distinct persons in the cases and elaborating on what their possible feelings were.
The Devil in the White City is extended biographies of Daniel Burnham and H.H. Holmes that show
the hectic troubles that happened during the World s Fair in the nineteenth century. Novels tell
fictional stories with fictional characters. Instead of making up a story, Larson emphasizes Burnham
and Holmes true stories. Anyone could have wrote about the Exposition, but that would have been a
bore. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
No one knew exactly how Burnham felt when Root died, but Burnham kept silent. He considered
quitting the fair (Larson 108), like a novel, Larson included how Burnham thought and felt. Holmes
murders in the book shared the victim s anxiety and emotions including Holmes calm and vile
thoughts. When Anna was trapped in his vault, the panic came, as it always did. Holmes imagined
Anna crumpled in a corner (Larson 295). Novels extently describe character reflections and have in
depth storylines, nonetheless The Devil in the White City follows these attributes of a novel, while

Appropriation Of Name Or Likeness For Commercial Purposes
Privacy is an especially equivocal idea, in particularly because invasion of privacy is a concept that is
arguably questionable. Privacy has been defined as the right to be left alone without unwarranted
intrusion by government, media, or other institutions or individuals. While this definition serves as a
quick start to the right of privacy, there are still several interpretations as to what may or may not
constitute as an invasion of privacy. What one person may believe to be an innocent curiosity, another
may feel as though it is an deliberate invasion of privacy. Often these disputes make their way into
courtrooms and are subjected to controversy and evaluation. This essay will focus on appropriation of
name or likeness for commercial purposes. First, it will define the right of privacy, and right of
publicity. Next, the evaluation and discussion of four cases in which appropriation of name or likeness
for commercial gain was assessed in courtrooms. Then after, thoughts on current developments in this
area of law will be discussed, as well as suggestions for current working journalists. Finally, closing
and concluding statements will be addressed.
Background
In the mid twentieth century, the tort of appropriation experienced a shift. Courts reoriented the tort so
that it no longer exclusively protected a person s interest in dignity or privacy, but rather the pecuniary
interest in the commercial exploitation of one s identity, or one s right of

Anti-Bullying Program Analysis
When discussing our prevention project my group thought that we should look for other effective
bullying programs and see how they achieved success. That is when I came across and article on the

in to implementing an anti bullying program at the local elementary schools. The program, KiVa, was
very successful in Finland and these college students wanted to see if it would work in schools here in
the United States. The article only explained that they planned to implement this program and did not
provide any follow up on if it was implemented and if it was successful. While the article was, short

Some of the outcomes from the study involved improved view of school as a caring environment
which led to better learning in core subjects. This program lowered overall depression symptoms for
the fourth through sixth grade students, but was significant especially for the students in sixth grade
that were reported victims of bullying. Lowering depression symptoms also improved self esteem
among the sixth grade victims as well. Not only were significant improvements seen following the
study, but these improvements were seen to have long lasting effects six months after the completion
of the program. Results like this suggest that these children will possibly carry what they have learned
into future school environments and on to post school or career fields. The only down side I saw to
this program is that it has yet to have been replicated using other cultures, but I have hope that the

Corner Street Light Research Paper
Much of our background is actually in rock music prior to doing electronic music, said Freddy. The
once rock now experimental electronic the duo of brothers, Charlie and Freddy Avis, has produced an
amazing array of progressive music over the past years.
The two brothers were previously in a band called Corner Street Light before Arswain that was a pure
rock band. However, as Corner Street Light started doing live shows they found themselves producing
a hybrid rock band and DJ set show. They were incorporating live instrumentals while adding pre
recorded keys, loops, and drums kits, and this started the transformation stage to electronic. In
addition, the album Cross by Justice was a strong influence, as it opened the whole world of electronic
music and the idea of using a computer as an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The track captivates listeners with a dark spacy electronic vibe leaving the end of the song floating
into an unknown destiny. Charlie said this track emerged as a German house synthesizer song, and
holds much less of a structural planning. Hologram breaks tradition framework and attracts a different
and heavier vibe than their existing tracks like Irate, Vaporize, or Overzealous. Another track that
stands out from Arswain is Lois Lane from their second album Fortress. The song has much deeper
roots and lyrical meanings than most of their other tracks. The track is a metaphor for how technology
can remove us from reality and can create a new world in which we indulge ourselves in. Instead of
modern technology advancing communication it has only made us more self dependent on our
personal devices. This translates into the vocals and instruments of the track with a final finish of a
surreal audio effect, where you cannot tell what s real and what s

Orange Coast College Student Dance Concert
The Dance concert is the Orange Coast College Student Dance Concert having multiple dances of
different types of dances. It s inside the Robert B. Moore Global Theater. It s starts at 8:00 and ends at
10:00pm and I went on April 28th, a Friday night. The artistic directors are Amelie Hunter and Shana
Menaker and I believe to be one hundred people or more in the theater. So it s a full house fill with
students and adults alike.
What I enjoy during the concert was the dancers performing without being distracted or scare by the
audience. Granted it s to be expected and the dancers are not strangers to this, but nice to see
performers not buckle down to the pressure of fear because of the audience. At the same time, I
understand that they do, but what I have seen they didn t show it. What I don t like was not the quality
the dances, but the different types of dances shown. Most dancers I saw only modern or contemporary
pieces and the only thing different was the hip hop pieces. I didn t seem to find classical ballet, tap,
jazz or anything to diversify the concert. While I didn t find the concert a chore to watch and was
engaging, but I find myself looking at the hip hop dances more than I would for modern or
contemporary mostly due to something different to watch. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

choreography. The dance schism is like a nurse helping a patient at a psych ward to me. In conclusion,

Wal Mart As A Research Organization
Introduction For this research paper, I would like to select Wal Mart as a research organization. Wal
Mart was initiated by Sam Walton in 1962. In addition, this is an American multinational retail
corporation that runs chains of large discount department stores and warehouse stores in
approximately 27 countries. Moreover, the organization operates its business throughout e commerce

Furthermore, as per the Fortune Global 500 list, in 2013, Wal Mart was the second biggest public
corporation and the biggest private company in the all over the world. It is the world s prevalent
retailer organization that has about two million employees to perform all the business activities in an
effective manner. In addition, as per the financial report 2013, the revenues of the corporation were
approximately US$ 469.162 billion. On the other hand, for this paper I would like to select Wal Mart
due to several reasons. For case, the major reason behind it is that Wal Mart is a modern organization
that adopts and implement innovative ideas as well as methods to perform its all the business activities
in an effective and a more comprehensive manner. Along with this, the company works on an effective
principle: save money and live better. Moreover, Wal Mart is an organization that is universal that

Literary Analysis Of For Whom The Bell Tolls

A) I can connect to Robert Jordan s hopelessness as he is stranded in Spain with my future. He has to

something of my life.
B) In For Whom the Bell Tolls chapters 1 10 I noticed that Hemingway utilized a literary device of
sarcasm when writing Robert Jordans part. So is the chest of a man like the chest of a bear, Robert

Private Schools vs. Public Schools Essay
Would you change your school? Would you go to a private school instead of a public school? Or to a
public school instead of a private school? Private and public education is different in many ways such
as their performance, enrollment, and the overall education taught but yet they have somewhat similar
teachers.
Students performance in public and private schools differ a lot. Private schools often have better
grades and test scores. It is proven that kids who go to a public school and attend a private school
perform better (Williams 17). Student performance varies but the advantage would probably have to
go to the private schools.
Teachers in private and public schools are similar yet have some differences.
There are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
So, more than likely the way teachers are paid probably does not really affect the way they teach.
The enrollment in public and private schools is much different. The amount of kids in a
school/classroom is going to effect the way the kids learn. The less kids in a class probably the better
their going to do. While the more kids enrolled in school the worse the kids are probably going to do.
Public schools usually have 300 599 students enroll (Klieg 22). They have an average of 527 kids per
a school (Klieg 22). Where Private schools enroll below 300 kids and have an average of 190 kids per
a school (Klieg 22). Enrollment has gone up slowly with about 46.8 million kinds in public schools
and about 5.9 million kids in private schools (Klieg 21). The enrollment in schools will probably still
continue to rise.
The overall education in both public and private schools could drastically be improved. There are
many things that people could do to improve education. For instance one way to improve private
education is to make them have to take certain tests. As stated by Mary Williams No State requires
private schools to take the same tests as public schools (Williams 62). So therefore there is the public
schools like in Missouri for example; where they must take the MAP tests and such other tests, while
the private schools are just sitting around doing the normal routine. No, these tests aren t for a

The Ban Of Medical Marijuana
Charlotte Figi, a six year old girl, had an untreatable form of epilepsy and used medical marijuana to
save her life. Her parents had tried almost every medication to try and save her by the time she was
two years old. Some nights she would get fifty seizures each night. Finally, her parents were able to
get her a medical marijuana card in Colorado, and the new medication immediately stopped the
seizures (Gummow, 8 Miraculous, para. 4, alternet.org). This is just one example of how unjust the
ban of medicinal marijuana is. The ban of medical marijuana is unjust because people who need the
medicine have been arrested and sent to prison for decades, the ban is based on outdated moral biases,
and although some may argue that marijuana is a gateway drug, people who wish to use medicinal
marijuana are using it to relieve specific symptoms that are not addressed by harder drugs. Charlotte s

Anthropogenic Noise On Cetaceans
Rays of pale sunlight pass through a gradient of cerulean blue. The wide open space seems almost
eerie until a humpback whale gently swimming sings his song, and the space fills with wonder, until a
disturbance arises.
Cetaceans evolved to use sound as their way of sensing the environment, navigating, foraging, and
selecting mates. Anthropogenic sounds have negative effects on marine life. Humans produce their
own underwater sounds through activities such as aircraft overflights, boats and ships (vessels),
tourism, stationary offshore activities, air gun firing, sonars, explosions, and methods to control
movement of marine life (W. Johnson Richardson and Bernd Würsig, 1997).
Many studies have discovered vessels as the main contributor of anthropogenic noise. It is difficult to
study the effects of anthropogenic noise on cetaceans because it is hard for scientists to see the effects
on communities in aquatic environments. Nevertheless, researchers are finding new methods to study
cetacean acoustics, which results in better details, but it is still hard to understand the long term effects
of anthropogenic noise on these mammals. Researchers need to conduct more studies and add to
previous data and results ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Bottlenose dolphins will decrease their calls in the presence of certain vessels. Call rates decrease,
frequency and length of whistles increase, and creaks changed in the presence of ferries and leisure
boats. Dolphin whistles are a form of social communication. Vessel noise masks whistles interfering
with important social interactions such as mating and mother calf communication, it is hard for the
receiver to recognize signals. Dolphins use creaks in echolocation; changes in these creaks reduce the
efficiency of foraging. Short term vessel noise effects on foraging and mating may turn into long term,
affecting residency patterns (David Lundquist et al.,

Italy Swot Analysis
Introduction
1 Strength
Italy is situated is the center of the Mediterranean Sea. The main strength of geographical location is
that Italy belongs to the coasts of four different seas (Adriatic Sea, Ionian Sea, Tyrrhenian Sea and
Ligurian Sea). There are two large mountain ranges in Italy: Alps and Apennines. It is a big plus for
tourism sector of the country. Tourism is one of the fastest growing and profitable sectors of the
national economy. Italian climate is very different. It is comfortable to travel to this country in every

And now unemployment is growing too fast. The problem is that Italians tend to enter the work force
at an older age. They take longer to find jobs and tend not to leave those jobs once they have them. As
a result of it, many Italians turn to more flexible but illegal work. Speaking about criminality, it is
necessary to say about Italian mafia. Based on the report of 2009 year, commissioned by Italy s
parliamentary anti mafia commission, it is possible to say that now it is silently prospering, moving on
from spectacular crimes and massacres to business and politics, with a prudent dose of intimidation
and violence in a bid to take over the fundamental role of the state. The highest concentration of
people living under the shadow of the mafia, 95.9%, was in the province of Agrigento in Sicily,
followed by Naples, at 95%. (Tom Kington, guardian.co.uk, 2009). Now Italy has many problems in
economic sector. The first is that it has very high debt level. Because of it Italy now is in crisis
situation. Also Italian living standards have a considerable north south divide. Italy suffers from
structural weaknesses due to its geographical conformation and the lack of raw materials and energy
resources. The country has an inefficient state bureaucracy, low property rights protection and high
levels of corruption, heavy taxation and public spending that accounts for about half of

Similarities Between Hercules And The Myth Of Hercules
Authors, poets, and film directors have all used ancient stories to create new pieces of literature and
film works for modern times. The animated Disney film Hercules (1997) and the myth of Hercules
share the background of audience driven narratives; however, Disney s aspiration to fill the theaters
and earn money results in an unblemished narrative, while the original myth portrays an imperfect
model to a flawed humanity. Greek mythology has been passed on and retold over generations.
Literature and movies have been created to entertain as well as provide specific themes based off of
myths. There are many heroes that mythology talks about and each one has lived an epic life, but there
is one famous hero that has been immortalized throughout history. Hercules is the son of Zeus and a
mortal named Alcmene. Zeus impregnated her while her husband was away and this is where his story
began. Zeus wife, Hera, found out about the affair and was outrageous about his careless actions. She
tried to prevent Hercules birth; however, when that didn t work she sent snakes to kill the baby.
Hercules was too mighty for the snakes and strangled them before they could even hurt him. As stated
in this source, Hera remained angry. How could she get even? Hera knew that she would lose in a
fight, and that she wasn t powerful enough to prevent Zeus from having his way. Hera decided to pay
Zeus back for his infidelity by making the rest of Hercules life as miserable as she could (Crane
WEB). Hercules grew up to be a great young warrior and was all around. With this god like strength,
also came an uncontrollable temper that made him react at times without thinking, but later made him
realize the wrongdoings of his violence. He later then married a woman named Megara and had two
beautiful children. But one day, Hera instilled a fit of rage into Hercules and made him slaughter his
family with his very own hands. He was shocked by his actions and asked Apollo for assistance since
he was drowning in guilt. Apollo later then gave him specific tasks to help Hercules redeem himself
for the bloodshed he caused. The hero was sent to Eurystheus, and under his strict hand, he was to
accomplish twelve labors over the next twelve years.

The Death Of The Street
It was nine o clock although it could have been midnight. The main street was deserted except for a
man pulling his bull terrier away from the base of a lamp post. An ambulance siren wailed in the
distance. Occasionally, a car hissed past spitting up spray. Persistent winter rain permeated my fur
coat, saturated my hair and drooled down my face into my scarf. I was cold wet and eager to get
indoors. Long dark and menacing. Though dark, the alley lured me in with the promise of a speedy
arrival home. Momentarily I hesitated at its entrance. A hundred yards away stood a single street lamp
that offered a dim amber light at the alleyway s turning. The pole of the street light had been defaced
with rude drawings of body parts and derogatory words. My gut feeling told me to leave this
unfamiliar alley and quickly. but down the alley, past the turning and another 20 yards and I would be
home. 120 yards and 3 minutes rather than 300 yards and 10 minutes. Although I was hesitant I took
the first step into the alley as warmth and dry clothes beckoned. I walked on in fear.
As I proceeded into the alley the weeping trees poked at my neck and snagged at my hair. Sounds of
the unknown rustled through the overgrown bushes that had become infested with sweet wrappers and
empty beer cans. The wind blew hard carrying an old crisp packet from one overgrown bush to the
next. Embedded in the bushes was a long piece of white and blue tape that blew in the violent wind. It
had been impaled by a

Describe how managerial accounting is different from cost accounting. Cost accounting is the process
of tracking, recording and analyzing costs associated with a company s product or project. Internal
managers are the ones who normally use cost accounting information. Direct Costs, Indirect Costs and
Overhead/Absorbed Costs are usually what are measured in Cost Accounting. This information is then
used by managers when decisions are made dealing with company costs and how to improve the

William Shakespeare s As You Like It As a Study of Perception and Misperception
The concepts of perception and misperception are common themes in many of Shakespeare s plays
and can be found in his comedies, tragedies and histories alike. Shakespeare explores these often
parallel elements through several different forms in his work, such as disguise, mistaken identity and
blindness, and events caused by these can lead to amusing, confusing or sometimes tragic
consequences, depending on the nature of the plays themselves.
The Concise Oxford Dictionary defines perception as the ability to see, hear or become aware of

The forest of Arden is a particular example of how the perception of the same thing can vary greatly
between different people in As You Like It and can change completely in the mind of one person. The
forest is the place to which Rosalind s father, Duke Senior, is banished, and to which Rosalind and
Celia flee following the wrath of Celia s father, Duke Frederick. Indeed, it is the setting for much of
the action in the play and comes to mean several things to several characters.
The forest represents nature in the standard opposition between that and civilisation, which is
represented by the other setting in the play, the court. Arden is perceived by characters such as Duke
Senior and his followers as an idyllic and uncorrupted place, whereas the civilised world is seen as
irrationally cruel and ruined by humankind. The Duke expresses this with his speech eulogising the
forest, hath not old custom made this life more sweet than that of painted pomp? Are not these woods
more free from peril than the envious court?…this our life, exempt from public haunt, finds tongues

How Did The Boer War Affect Canada
The Boer War was a significant moment in the history of the British Empire as many of great Britain s
commonwealth allies were called to help the fledging empire. Canada during the war went through
many serious debates on what was the suitable choice for the country. Divisions soon rose up along
lines that would continue to exist for much of the century. Canada learned much from the experiences
it faced during the Boer War and it was through the challenges it faced that the country was able to
correctly adapt to the 20th century.
Canada supported a large minority of people with French ancestry. French Canadians lived
predominantly in the province of Quebec. The French Canadians or Quebecois frequently clashed with

How Does Annabel Lee Rhyme Scheme
Poe uses rhyme scheme and internal rhyme to enhance the tone of his writing. In Annabel Lee it says,
For the moon never beams without bringing me dreams (Poe 1.34). This sentence is a perfect example
of internal rhyme. Poe is rhyming beams with dreams to emphasize the love the speaker has towards
Annabel Lee. From this, the tone can be interpreted by heartbroken since Annabel has passed away.
Another piece of evidence that shows rhyme scheme, is in the text, A Dream Within A Dream , which
states, I stand amid the roar/Of a surf tormented shore, (Poe 1.12 13). Edgar Allan Poe rhymes roar
and shore at the end of these two lines to emphasize the tone of the poem as torment. Also rhyming
can relate with repetition because the readers

Pepsi Of Coca Cola Company Essay
A great question arose in the 80 s as a constant innovation and aggressive behavior arose towards
brand building. Pepsi, a brand that suffered two bankruptcies, pushed forwards towards their growth
as the company by expanding their portfolio as a Food and Beverage Company. As it became a food
and beverage company, Pepsi was able to become the Coca Cola s main competitor. Each company
constantly competed and tried to outdo each other with their campaigns. While both brands competed
with each other, Pepsi began to target Coca Cola s commercials causing Coca Cola to respond with the
same aggressive behavior creating the beginning of the Cola Wars. The Cola Wars brought forth a
great question that made one wonder if either Coke was better than Pepsi or if Pepsi was better than
Coke? Based off the Cola Wars, the best soft drink producer is the Coca Cola Company.
The Coca Cola Company contains more value than Pepsi. According to an article in Coca Cola.com,
Coca Cola has retained the No. 3 spot on Interbrand s annual Best Global Brands ranking for the

Descriptive Essay About The Walk
The Walk 25, 24, 23, 22 as I m watching the numbers drop on the screen, the anticipation and nerves
build up on the elevator. I look around for other girls dressed in the mandatory emerald green shirts,
but only the red and yellow shirts obligatory for other choirs. My mind races as I envision about the
doubts people had when I told them I was going. My teachers asking me if it was worth it to travel all
the way to Philadelphia for some choir. Or my friends questioning me if this singing thing was
substantial enough to miss a week of school right before exams. Is this really worth the experience?
Scenarios start making themselves up in my mind. Are the girls going to be nice? Is everyone going to
know someone else? Will I sit next to someone who hates my personality? Ding! The elevator doors
open to a chaotic scene in the lobby. Red and yellow shirts run around like swarms of little ants.
Bumblebee parents, dressed in Kodály shirts like fans at a football game, only stare at their cell
phones looking at the rigorous schedule that s set for their kids in the next few days. Blue shirts from
the exclusive choir are like fireflies; They show up here and there, but there are never as many as
people believe there are. Then there are the ladybugs in the green shirts. They are sporadically placed
as if someone had tossed them up into the air and did not care where they would land. I squirmed past
the crowd of solemn business men who look uncomfortable with the disarray happening behind them
and came face to face with the ocean of colored shirts As I forced my way through the mass of colored
shirts towards the giant glass doors on the other side, I begin to think about how I got to this place. I
can remember being a little 5th grader ecstatic with the thought of getting my yellow shirt and being
in a national choir. The irony is that people say you feel more confident with yourself as you get older.
Back then, however, I wasn t nervous at all and felt completely confident with myself. Now, I am so

Abraham And The Early Journey Of The Formation Of Israel
Introduction
This world was created for a purpose. That purpose was to shine and reflect the majesty of the creator.
Faith is having a confident attitude toward God, involving commitment to His will for one s life and
that His plans are for our best and flow from His love for us. As we read through the Old and New
Testament of the bible we see how the men of God are described living by their faith.
1 Corinthians 13:13 (NKJV) ... 13 And now abide faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of
these is love.
Body
Though we could look at many of the Bible accounts from Adam to Noah, Noah to Abraham,
Abraham to David or David to Jesus, we will primarily focus on Abraham and the early journey of the
formation of Israel. The same principles can be found in all of these periods. God s promise to
Abraham was he would become the father of many nations. Abraham s obedience to God allow him to
experience the Love of God by trusting God at his word. When God asked Abraham to take Isaac his
son, Genesis 22:2 (NKJV) Then he said, Take now your son your only son Isaac, whom you love and
go to the land Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I will
tell you. . Abraham obeyed God and while on the journey Isaac asked Abraham, where the Lamb was
for the sacrifice Abraham answered God will provide and this is where you see Abraham s faith in
God. Works of obedience evidence this faith, which God actually identifies as righteousness. We see

Connell (1995) developed this concept to describe how masculinities are always relational and, thus,

real. The jeremiad is a rhetorical tradition that appeared in most of America s history, and it began in
Puritan New England. Puritan New England was where jeremiad got its American stamp and where it
was most commonly used and developed into what it is now called American jeremiad. People think
of puritan New England as a society where religion such as Christian and civil government were
intertwined. Never has anyone imagine a society where religion ... Show more content on

His writing was describing human face human flaws that prevented them from seeing the beauty of
things During his lifetime period. Nathaniel Hawthorne The Birthmark illustrates Bercovitch
definition of American jeremiad. In Hawthorne The Birthmark has errand, anxiety and hope that the
brilliant scientist Aylmer have on how to get rid of his wife birthmark. His wife Georgiana have a
birthmark that has a shape of a tiny hand on her cheek which are like crimson hand. Aylmer and
Georgiana, both in love with each other, started to have problems based on something Georgiana was
unable to prevent from happening. Georgiana s birthmark disgusted Aylmer in way where he begins to
reject her in every way. Thought their life could have been a sweet and romantic life, turns into a
nightmare when Aylmer becomes obsessed with removing a small birthmark on Georgiana s cheek.
Aylmer doesn t just love science but he is obsessed with it. His hope is very high when it comes to
using science to remove her birthmark, which to her the birthmark are like her charm. There are many
kind of symbol that symbolize a person of who they are and it might have a connection to their life,
but for Aylmer, that mark on his wife cheek is awful and he shudders at the sight of it. He hates the
birthmark on her cheek more than he love her, on the other hand Georgiana love him more than
herself. He does not care if

At Stamford Bridge, he won a decisive victory on 25th September, in which Harald Hard1rada and
Tostig were both killed. But after that, Harold s sick, exhausted Saxon army met William s fresh,
rested Norman troops on October 14th at Battle near Hastings, and the great battle began. That was the
moment when King Harold was killed and the Normans gained control of England. On Christmas Day
1066, William was crowned King of England.
The Norman Conquest had important consequences on all levels, including the linguistic one. English
phonetics, vocabulary, morphology and also syntax were influenced by French, but, despite the
historical and social background, the mother tongue survived and adapted, reestablishing itself after
1200.
II. ENGLISH, FRENCH, LATIN THREE LANGUAGES IN USE
At the moment, the conquest probably came as a disaster for the English people, as the Normans
brought their new territory under control with systematic rigour. After the English royal family had
been destroyed in the battle, the new king established his own regime. At the time, Normandy had an
advanced feudal system of political organisation, which accelerated the establishment of feudalism in
Britain. Moreover, most of the representatives of the native nobility were eliminated and a French
speaking monarchy, aristocracy and clerical hierarchy took over. Thus, the important positions and the
great estates were mostly in

Explain How Many Utilitarian s Does It Take To Screw In...
Introduction
Question: How many utilitarian s does it take to screw in a light bulb? Answer: As many as are happy
screwing in light bulbs! I want to stop philosophizing; but I Kant! Ha ha. Kant is all about rules and
Bentham about the consequences. Jeremy Bentham, a British philosopher, economist, jurist, human
rights activist and the chief expounder of Utilitarianism. Bentham born a prodigy, graduated with a
Bachelor of Arts degree at sixteen years old. He was a radical philosopher of law and politics and gave
ideas which were way ahead of his time. Immanuel Kant, a German philosopher, considered the most
influential thinker of the Enlightenment era and one of the greatest western philosophers of all times.
Kant s philosophy is often described ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As the founder of utilitarianism, Bentham believes that an act is considered just if it produces the most
happiness and the least pain for the greatest number of people affected directly, or indirectly by that
action. For Bentham, happiness means giving sovereignty to pleasure over pain. Contrarily, Kant
proposes that only duty and rules should dictate our actions, as the outcome is beyond our control. To
Kant the only thing that matters is good will. His theory suggests that an action is either just or unjust
regardless of the consequences of that same action. Bentham tried to attain his theory through
hedonism and Kant his through universal maxims, neither theory beneficial to everyone. In addition,
Jeremy Bentham s theory is flawed because it only considers the most happiness caused by a moral
action, it neglects minorities. Similarly, Kant fully ignoring the consequences of a moral action is not a
worthy idea, because at times, we may have more than one duty or obligation to

Fossils Lab
Title: Lab 3: Microfossils Lab and Field Trip to North Manzanilla beach
Introduction: Fossils are defined as a physical trace or evidence of life from a prior geological time
period which has been preserved. Examples of fossils include burrows, indentations or bite marks,
footprints or other impressions, coprolites, hard animal body parts such as bone, shells or horns or
mineralized plant remains embedded in stratified rock.
Examination of the fossils and the strata in which they were found and compilation of this data into
what is known as the fossil record provides a comprehensive picture of the morphology and
physiology of the organism, how they evolved over time and even of the terrain and vegetation cover
at that time period. Lower strata ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In general a higher proportion of the species were bivalves. The larger fossils with sturdier shells were
found in the sand like strata where the sediment was not as compact and the pressure from higher
layers was less.
The most likely environment in which these organisms lived would not be terrestrial or freshwater but
a coastal marine environment with varying levels of salinity since the sea water would advance and
retreat with the tides. The gastropods would require moisture from the ocean to prevent desiccation
while the bivalves would be able to survive longer periods exposed since the shell could be closed
temporarily until conditions were favourable.
The fossils in the lower silty layers were most likely formed below water by normal geological
processes. The sea level rose covering the organisms and the layers of silt settled above them. In the
upper sandy layers the fossils could have been formed above water by a sudden catastrophic event as a
result of ongoing erosive processes. The conditions in which the fossils formed were likely a result of
wave action which eroded the coast line until it was unstable. When the sea level receded there was a
landslide covering the

  • 2. Observation Of A Child Observation Over the past few weeks I have observed a child in the twelve to eighteen month old category. Throughout this paper I will refer to him as Z. I had five different observations, each for one hour at the West Chester Area Day Care. I sat in classroom seven, in a little chair in the corner writing down everything I observed about him. It was interesting to learn about Z as I watched him interact with the adults and other kids that were in the room with him. Z caught my attention right away in the classroom. He was very active, walking around while the other children were mainly sitting or only crawling. This lead me to choose him to observe for this project, and focus on his physical movement and interactions with others throughout this paper. Z was always moving around, the only time he was ever sitting still was when he was placed in a height chair for snack time. He switched between crawling and walking. Most of the time he would walk, but then he would fall down and continue to wherever his destination was by crawling. I noticed one day he was holding a maraca and walked for a longer period of time than usual. According to (page 183 infants children and adolescents), it is easier for them to focus on their balance when they are holding onto an object. He demonstrated the ability t squat down and picking something up, before returning to a standing position. The adults encouraged his walking behaviors, so when the group came in from the outside playground, they would let him walk in, while most of the other kids were being pushed in the giant stroller. The average age for most kids to begin walking is 11 months and 3 weeks, the range being 9 to 17 months, so he his definitely on track for his age group (182). He was also able to climb up onto things. For example, when the children were brought on walks around the neighborhood there was a giant stroller that they rode in as mentioned earlier. Z got up the step and turned himself around to sit down in the seat. He did the same thing on some of the steps on the playground, crawling up one and turning himself around to sit. Walking up stairs with help is achieved on average at 16 months, so he appears to be on the right track towards that motor skill. A baby s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Chingachgook s The Last Of The Mohicans The Last of the Mohicans The relationships that parents have with their kids are something special. Each relationship is unique in its own way. It s unique in that to be parents or kid to someone else, they don t have to be the conventional husband, wife, and child. It could be one Dad raising the child by himself. It could be two moms raising the child. It could be an entire group of people collectively helping to raise that child. The beauty in it is that the role of the parent and child are endless. But one thing that every single one of those relationships has in common is that those parents and children share a special bond. To sum up, each family bond is something special that cannot be replicated and is unique to each relationship. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Each family has their own traditions and own way of dealing with each other, although, families can have similarities and differences. One similarity between Chingachgook and Uncas and Munro and his daughters are that they still deeply care for one another. No matter how much they fight and argue, at the end of the day, they still love each other because they are family. Nothing can get between love and their families. But, one difference between the two families is that Chingachgook treats Uncas with more respect and believes that he is responsible enough to make most of his own decisions. While at the same time, Munro thinks that his daughters are still too young and impressionable. He feels that he must still always keep an eye on them and make every decision so that they can always be protected. Now, neither of those two ways of parenting are wrong, it is just how each of them thinks it is the best ways to watch over their children. To sum up, parenting is a very difficult thing to do at some times, and each parent has their own way of teaching their children how to grow ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Effects Of Music On People s Mood Introduction Listening to music can be an influence on people s mood. Sad music is able to make someone cry whereas happy music does the opposite. Music can be defined as sound of vocal, instruments or combined to form harmony and expression of emotion (Jackson, 2003). And also it can be classified into two categories ; arousing and calm music. Arousing music is usually fast, rhythmic, or give a sudden loud sound. However, calming music is usually slower, with a smooth melody, and not too rhythmic (Ball, 2010). Research has proven that music is not only one form of entertainment, but also is beneficial to a number of health including developing baby s brain and memory, lowering stress levels, improving sleep quality, raising states of ... However, the results were not significant because there was only a slight change in heart rate; other extraneous variables such as movement of participants would have caused it easily . The reason that results support the hypothesis is several studies also show that when participants listen to arousing music, their breathing pattern and heart rate will become rapid involuntarily. This is more obvious when observing trained musicians as their breathing pattern and heart rate tends to synchronize with the rhythm of the music (Maqlione, 2006). Arousing music has the effect of tensing muscles and high blood pressure because louder and faster noises tend to raise both heart rate and blood pressure. In contrast, the rhythm of calm music can guide the body into slower respiration and relaxation of muscles, lowering the heart rate(Turner Frey, 2005). The findings of this investigation can be applied in the real world such as the medical field, calming music can be a therapy to reduce people s stress. Studies have shown that cardiovascular patients listening to calming music for 30 minutes had lower blood pressure, slower heart rates and less distress than those who did not listen to music. I enjoyed Mr. Pollan s book, The Omnivore s Dilemma and learned a great deal of information. Pollan s book is a plea for us to stop and think for a moment about our whole process of eating. Pollan sets out to corn fields and natural farms, goes hunting and foraging, all in the name of coming to terms with where food really comes from in modern America and what the ramifications are for the eaters, the eaten, the economy and the environment. The results are far more than I expected them to be. I had no idea we used so much fossil fuel to get corn to grow as much as it does. There is a widespread of obesity today due to the need of agricultural excesses of corn. I hadn t thought, for example that anyone could give me any more reasons not to eat HOT French fries at McDonalds, but Pollan did! The first section of this book traces a meal at McDonalds back to its basic ingredient corn. From the corn that feeds the chickens to the xanthan gum in the milkshake to the sweetener in the ketchup and oil in which the fries are cooked, McDonalds is mostly corn. Since Fast Food Nation and the other exposes, I don t think there s anyone who cares who doesn t know how gross fast food is, and Pollan admirably stays away from the yuckiest. • 7. Why World War I Began There is no cut and dry answer why WWI began. It seems like all of the countries were acting as if they were a group of teenage girls in high school gossiping about one another and doing antagonistic things to badger each other to make themselves feel better due to their own insecurities. It could be argued many ways why WWI started but I believe that it was brought upon by grudges that were held over a long period of time, until, the straw that broke the camel s back , which was the assassination of the Archduke France Ferdinand. With support from Germany s blank check, Austria Hungary secured a bond with Germany that led to Franz Joseph signing his declaration of war on Serbia. With tensions building between the two countries, prior to the assassination, there were definitely things that had been boiling under the surface. The responsibility of WWI does not lie on one country; all participants played a role in its beginning whether it was direct or indirect. Many tensions were building up throughout Europe. Nationalism, Militarism, and Imperialism are reasons that led to WWI among others. Imperialism is unequally and forcefully taking over another country which is what many countries were doing before WWI. Europeans started taking over small countries just for the resources and power. Nationalism was developed and it created a dedication and devotion between an individual and there country. Individuals began to have pride of their country along with patriotism. This ... This opens them up to a lot of new experiences. Ideally, they should be ready to face the new challenges living out of the house will bring. In some cases, the child will have an extremely difficult time learning how to take care of themselves. The parents of the child play a huge role in whether or not their child is ready for this step. • 9. Devil In The White City Nonfiction This book is boring. This book is full of facts. I fell asleep reading this book. These are the nonfiction genre stereotypes that most people think. Erik Larson changed that stereotype and wrote a nonfiction book with real characters and overall facts. The Devil in the White City does not only tell an elaborating true story, but it tries to grab the reader to believe that they are actually living in 1893 during the Chicago World s Fair trials and tribulations. To tell this story, Larson combines qualities of a nonfiction book and a generic novel to successfully craft a narrative built on historical facts, therefore developing distinct persons in the cases and elaborating on what their possible feelings were. The Devil in the White City is extended biographies of Daniel Burnham and H.H. Holmes that show the hectic troubles that happened during the World s Fair in the nineteenth century. Novels tell fictional stories with fictional characters. Instead of making up a story, Larson emphasizes Burnham and Holmes true stories. Privacy has been defined as the right to be left alone without unwarranted intrusion by government, media, or other institutions or individuals. While this definition serves as a quick start to the right of privacy, there are still several interpretations as to what may or may not constitute as an invasion of privacy. What one person may believe to be an innocent curiosity, another may feel as though it is an deliberate invasion of privacy. Often these disputes make their way into courtrooms and are subjected to controversy and evaluation. This essay will focus on appropriation of name or likeness for commercial purposes. First, it will define the right of privacy, and right of publicity. Next, the evaluation and discussion of four cases in which appropriation of name or likeness for commercial gain was assessed in courtrooms. Then after, thoughts on current developments in this area of law will be discussed, as well as suggestions for current working journalists. Finally, closing and concluding statements will be addressed. Background In the mid twentieth century, the tort of appropriation experienced a shift. Courts reoriented the tort so that it no longer exclusively protected a person s interest in dignity or privacy, but rather the pecuniary interest in the commercial exploitation of one s identity, or one s right of ... Her parents had tried almost every medication to try and save her by the time she was two years old. Some nights she would get fifty seizures each night. Finally, her parents were able to get her a medical marijuana card in Colorado, and the new medication immediately stopped the seizures (Gummow, 8 Miraculous, para. 4, alternet.org). This is just one example of how unjust the ban of medicinal marijuana is. The ban of medical marijuana is unjust because people who need the medicine have been arrested and sent to prison for decades, the ban is based on outdated moral biases, and although some may argue that marijuana is a gateway drug, people who wish to use medicinal marijuana are using it to relieve specific symptoms that are not addressed by harder drugs. Charlotte s epilepsy is not the only condition for which medical marijuana can be used. The wide open space seems almost eerie until a humpback whale gently swimming sings his song, and the space fills with wonder, until a disturbance arises. Cetaceans evolved to use sound as their way of sensing the environment, navigating, foraging, and selecting mates. Anthropogenic sounds have negative effects on marine life. Humans produce their own underwater sounds through activities such as aircraft overflights, boats and ships (vessels), tourism, stationary offshore activities, air gun firing, sonars, explosions, and methods to control movement of marine life (W. Johnson Richardson and Bernd Würsig, 1997). Many studies have discovered vessels as the main contributor of anthropogenic noise. It is difficult to study the effects of anthropogenic noise on cetaceans because it is hard for scientists to see the effects on communities in aquatic environments. Nevertheless, researchers are finding new methods to study cetacean acoustics, which results in better details, but it is still hard to understand the long term effects of anthropogenic noise on these mammals. Based on the report of 2009 year, commissioned by Italy s parliamentary anti mafia commission, it is possible to say that now it is silently prospering, moving on from spectacular crimes and massacres to business and politics, with a prudent dose of intimidation and violence in a bid to take over the fundamental role of the state. • 24. Similarities Between Hercules And The Myth Of Hercules Authors, poets, and film directors have all used ancient stories to create new pieces of literature and film works for modern times. The animated Disney film Hercules (1997) and the myth of Hercules share the background of audience driven narratives; however, Disney s aspiration to fill the theaters and earn money results in an unblemished narrative, while the original myth portrays an imperfect model to a flawed humanity. Greek mythology has been passed on and retold over generations. Literature and movies have been created to entertain as well as provide specific themes based off of myths. There are many heroes that mythology talks about and each one has lived an epic life, but there is one famous hero that has been immortalized throughout history. Hercules is the son of Zeus and a mortal named Alcmene. Zeus impregnated her while her husband was away and this is where his story began. Zeus wife, Hera, found out about the affair and was outrageous about his careless actions. She tried to prevent Hercules birth; however, when that didn t work she sent snakes to kill the baby. Hercules was too mighty for the snakes and strangled them before they could even hurt him. As stated in this source, Hera remained angry. How could she get even? Hera knew that she would lose in a fight, and that she wasn t powerful enough to prevent Zeus from having his way. Hera decided to pay Zeus back for his infidelity by making the rest of Hercules life as miserable as she could (Crane WEB). Hercules grew up to be a great young warrior and was all around. With this god like strength, also came an uncontrollable temper that made him react at times without thinking, but later made him realize the wrongdoings of his violence. He later then married a woman named Megara and had two beautiful children. But one day, Hera instilled a fit of rage into Hercules and made him slaughter his family with his very own hands. He was shocked by his actions and asked Apollo for assistance since he was drowning in guilt. Apollo later then gave him specific tasks to help Hercules redeem himself for the bloodshed he caused. The hero was sent to Eurystheus, and under his strict hand, he was to accomplish twelve labors over the next twelve years. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

An ambulance siren wailed in the distance. Occasionally, a car hissed past spitting up spray. Persistent winter rain permeated my fur coat, saturated my hair and drooled down my face into my scarf. I was cold wet and eager to get indoors. Long dark and menacing. Though dark, the alley lured me in with the promise of a speedy arrival home. Momentarily I hesitated at its entrance. A hundred yards away stood a single street lamp that offered a dim amber light at the alleyway s turning. The pole of the street light had been defaced with rude drawings of body parts and derogatory words. My gut feeling told me to leave this unfamiliar alley and quickly. but down the alley, past the turning and another 20 yards and I would be home. 120 yards and 3 minutes rather than 300 yards and 10 minutes. Although I was hesitant I took the first step into the alley as warmth and dry clothes beckoned. I walked on in fear. As I proceeded into the alley the weeping trees poked at my neck and snagged at my hair. Sounds of the unknown rustled through the overgrown bushes that had become infested with sweet wrappers and empty beer cans. Poe is rhyming beams with dreams to emphasize the love the speaker has towards Annabel Lee. From this, the tone can be interpreted by heartbroken since Annabel has passed away. Another piece of evidence that shows rhyme scheme, is in the text, A Dream Within A Dream , which states, I stand amid the roar/Of a surf tormented shore, (Poe 1.12 13). At Stamford Bridge, he won a decisive victory on 25th September, in which Harald Hard1rada and Tostig were both killed. But after that, Harold s sick, exhausted Saxon army met William s fresh, rested Norman troops on October 14th at Battle near Hastings, and the great battle began. That was the moment when King Harold was killed and the Normans gained control of England. On Christmas Day 1066, William was crowned King of England. The Norman Conquest had important consequences on all levels, including the linguistic one. English phonetics, vocabulary, morphology and also syntax were influenced by French, but, despite the historical and social background, the mother tongue survived and adapted, reestablishing itself after 1200. II. ENGLISH, FRENCH, LATIN THREE LANGUAGES IN USE At the moment, the conquest probably came as a disaster for the English people, as the Normans brought their new territory under control with systematic rigour. After the English royal family had been destroyed in the battle, the new king established his own regime. At the time, Normandy had an

  • 44. Explain How Many Utilitarian s Does It Take To Screw In... Introduction Question: How many utilitarian s does it take to screw in a light bulb? Answer: As many as are happy screwing in light bulbs! I want to stop philosophizing; but I Kant! Ha ha. Kant is all about rules and Bentham about the consequences. Jeremy Bentham, a British philosopher, economist, jurist, human rights activist and the chief expounder of Utilitarianism. Bentham born a prodigy, graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree at sixteen years old. He was a radical philosopher of law and politics and gave ideas which were way ahead of his time. Immanuel Kant, a German philosopher, considered the most influential thinker of the Enlightenment era and one of the greatest western philosophers of all times. Kant s philosophy is often described ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As the founder of utilitarianism, Bentham believes that an act is considered just if it produces the most happiness and the least pain for the greatest number of people affected directly, or indirectly by that action. For Bentham, happiness means giving sovereignty to pleasure over pain. Contrarily, Kant proposes that only duty and rules should dictate our actions, as the outcome is beyond our control. To Kant the only thing that matters is good will. His theory suggests that an action is either just or unjust regardless of the consequences of that same action. Bentham tried to attain his theory through hedonism and Kant his through universal maxims, neither theory beneficial to everyone. In addition, Jeremy Bentham s theory is flawed because it only considers the most happiness caused by a moral action, it neglects minorities. Similarly, Kant fully ignoring the consequences of a moral action is not a worthy idea, because at times, we may have more than one duty or obligation to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Fossils Lab Title: Lab 3: Microfossils Lab and Field Trip to North Manzanilla beach Introduction: Fossils are defined as a physical trace or evidence of life from a prior geological time period which has been preserved. Examples of fossils include burrows, indentations or bite marks, footprints or other impressions, coprolites, hard animal body parts such as bone, shells or horns or mineralized plant remains embedded in stratified rock. Examination of the fossils and the strata in which they were found and compilation of this data into what is known as the fossil record provides a comprehensive picture of the morphology and physiology of the organism, how they evolved over time and even of the terrain and vegetation cover at that time period. Lower strata ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In general a higher proportion of the species were bivalves. The larger fossils with sturdier shells were found in the sand like strata where the sediment was not as compact and the pressure from higher layers was less. The most likely environment in which these organisms lived would not be terrestrial or freshwater but a coastal marine environment with varying levels of salinity since the sea water would advance and retreat with the tides. The gastropods would require moisture from the ocean to prevent desiccation while the bivalves would be able to survive longer periods exposed since the shell could be closed temporarily until conditions were favourable. The fossils in the lower silty layers were most likely formed below water by normal geological processes. The sea level rose covering the organisms and the layers of silt settled above them. In the upper sandy layers the fossils could have been formed above water by a sudden catastrophic event as a result of ongoing erosive processes. The conditions in which the fossils formed were likely a result of wave action which eroded the coast line until it was unstable. When the sea level receded there was a landslide covering the ...
